Currently working on a new film, he earlier got sick and needed to stop and rest. Because he did not want to hinder the production progress, after testing negative again he immediately returned to work fully. When he was not in a scene he would discuss the scene with the director. Wearing a suit under the blazing sun, he turned into a "water person" but did not care. He worked for a full 6 hours without drinking a drop of water, showing his "iron Best Actor" nature! Lau Ching Wan won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor this year. Before his victory he once said that he would make every movie like it would be his last, not because he thought life was unexpected but that the journey of an actor was difficult. He could be without a job at anytime. However, for him that was too humble. He absolutely has been a hot property in the business, with one film offer after another. Just finishing the film BA BA (PAPA) earlier, he very quickly had to join another large scale film production TAM BOON JUEN GA (NEGOTITION EXPERT). Perhaps he was too busy, his body has been frail and earlier he tested positive for COIVD. He had to stop all productions. However, work has always come first for Ching Wan. Because he did not want to affect the production progress, several days later when he tested negative he immediately returned to work. Earlier, he worked on large scale scenes with car crashes and hostage taking in Ho Man Tin. Also on hand were Timmy Hung Tin Ming, Kenny Wong Tak Bun, Adam Pak Tin Nam, Ken Low Wai Kwong, and Michael Miu Kiu Wai. Ching Wan was completely focused on the production. When not in a scene, he very rarely chatted with other actors. He stood aside while cultivating his emotions and going into the tent to discuss the scenes with director Herman Yau Lai To; because the temperature reached over 30 degrees Celsius, under the blazing sun he was completely soaked. He worked the full 6 hours without drinking a drop of water, challenged the human body limits. As soon as he worked on a movie he would forget about himself just like an iron man. As the shoot neared its end, Ching Wan finally "returned to his real self" and chatted and laughed with Wong Tak Bun, Hung Tin Ming and others. Miu Kiu Wai chatted with the crew and even had a female worker rolling over laughing, he was rather popular with the ladies. Hung Tin Ming had his wife Janet Chow Ka Wai and their children visiting the set. * (2023/05/31) The Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers would release the second season of the "Keep Rolling Keep Running" project. Applications would be accepted between June 1st and August 31st to recruit film screenplays with both domestic uniqueness and creativity. This season's goal would be to choose 4 film projects. Each chosen team would receive a maximum investment of HK$ 4.2 million on their production budget to turn the script into a commercial film. The "Keep Rolling Keep Running" project has no restriction to the participants' experience and its principles are to encourage creativity and explore Hong Kong film's new directions; at the same time, the selected production team must employ domestic film workers for all of its positions and hence create employment opportunity for the industry, cultivate a new generation of film talent and promote the industry's continuing development. Just re-elected as the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers president, Koo Tin Lok said, "Last year the audience gradually returned to the cinemas. Hong Kong film again received everyone's attention and support. In the industry, even more young screenwriters, directors, new actors and even different position film workers still worked tirelessly to find the opportunity to realize their film dreams. Thus the second season of 'Keep Rolling Keep Running' hopes to be able to choose 4 film projects and looks forward to being able to encourage even more screenplays with domestic uniqueness, creativity and different genres so the Hong Kong film industry would continue to power up." In the first season of the "Keep Rolling Keep Running" project, two selected films THE REMNANT (NGOK YUN DON DOH) and THE SIN OF UNFORGIVENESS (BUT SEH JI JUI) jumped out of over 40 participating screenplays and received investment for their production. Now the two films have already entered post production and pre production stages. Among them THE REMNANT tells a story about a retired mob boss who returns for a neighborhood that has been bullied over a rebuilding purchase issue. The cast would include Philip Keung Ho Man, Fish Liew Chi Yu, Cecilia Yip Tung, Ling Man Lung and Vincent Wan Yeung Ming. Liew Chi Yu had to dye her hair blonde to play a mother while Ling Man Lung would play a villain for the first time. * (2023/05/30) Fama after 13 years earlier performed a concert in Guangzhou, their largest scale performance in the mainland so far. They prepared an all new set list and content and over 30 dancers for the 9000 viewers. The first half of the show included a 60 minute long medley. Fama arranged their old and new songs anew. C Kwan said, "Singing 20 songs in 60 minutes, not one by one but in a nonstop medley. It absolutely is in Cantonese hip hop history the longest live medley." 6 Wing joked, "Lam Gor (George Lam Chi Cheung) had a song called 10' 12", our song could be called 60' 20", with multiple inches more than him." The second half of the concert was stand up comedy. Fama revealed that they starred in two movies. The first day was completed in 7 days, but the boss in the end decided against releasing it. They said, "The director shot as he watched, in the end he decided to change the ending a little. He felt that we should be the final boss, and we had to use all of our strength to fight a frail girl to a tie. We didn't feel it was very reasonable, maybe the boss in the end felt that way too so decided that not releasing it was the most reasonable." Then they shared their second experience as the film leads. On the second day of the shoot, the set caught fire accidentally and ended the shoot. Some of the crew went to court with the film company because they did not receive their pay. 6 Wing and C Kwan said that they have never truly been film leads, but they met many good elders in the industry. They were able to work with Stephen Chow Sing Chi and became friends with Dayo Wong Tze Wa, so they were happy. * (2023/05/26) Michelle Wai Sze Nga and Wong Yau Nam participated in the film TALES FROM THE OCCULT: BODY AND SOUL (SUT HUNG HUNG GAN ji JUI YU SAT)'s segment RAPUNZEL (TAU FAT) and played respectively a girl group member Maggie and a deranged hairstylist with a hair fetish. In the story Wai Sze Nga's long and luxurious hair caught Yau Nam's eyes and made him intend on killing her. Sze Nga in order to save her own life began a life and death fight against him. Sze Nga said, "It was either him or me, so we had many chase scenes that would leave us completely drained. During the shoot when I put a plastic bag over Yau Nam's head, it was dangerous. Before hand I reminded him, if breathing became difficult he should slap my tight as a signal. However Yau Nam toughed it out until the director yelled cut. His face was all red and he was trying to catch his breath. We almost took his life, which gave me quite a fright." Yau Nam admitted that he was already on the edge of suffocation, but in order to reach the director's demand of seeing blood vessels in the eyeballs he could only use an unusual method. In order to shake off his kid stench, he transitioned with this film. After discussions with the director, he accepted Wong's suggestion. During the shoot he let Wong slow down his performance rhythm and show his mature side. Yau Nam praised Wai Sze Nga as being very professional. In one scene he put her on a surgical table, tied up her limbs and then began. Off camera, Sze Nga did not let her go as she continued to maintain the state of fear. She did not ask for the crew to untie her. "Seeing her sacrifice for art was very heartbreaking, her limbs were all red and bruised from being tied up." In real life, Sze Nga and Yau Nam both saw hair as their lives. However the former said that if the character would require it, she would be fine with shaving her head. Soon to 40, Yau Nam worried about inheriting his father's hair loss issue. He spent a lot of effort of keeping his hair and extending his hair's longevity. He revealed that years ago he had to shave his head for a Qing Dynasty costume in Shanghai. At the time he was concerned that under the blazing sun, his scalp would be damaged and his hair would not grow back. He bought a lot of hair care products. "For this character, I went to be an apprentice at a hair salon. When I got home I still kept practicing hair cutting and got hair all over the floor. Ma yelled at me." Sze Nga admired that Yau Nam was attentive, when he washed her hair he did not slack off. He even added a massage service. Would Yau Nam pay attention to hair in choosing a girlfriend? He denied that. "I like to look at girls' calves, feeling that they should have beautiful curves; but when choosing a girlfriend I would look at the calves. I would focus on substance. The most important would be being kind and filial. If I would accept her, she could have thick legs and a lot of hair and I wouldn't care." As for what Sze Nga looked for in a mate, she said, "In this business I am used to seeing pretty boys that I am numb, so when choosing the other half appearance would not be important. The most important was inner beauty. If we would be compatible, I can get married without wearing a wedding gown." * (2023/05/25) The film TALES FROM THE OCCULT: BODY AND SOUL (SUT HUNG HUNG GAN ji JUI YU SAT) two nights ago held its premiere. Actors Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Wong Yau Nam, Cecilia Choi Sze Wan, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, ANSONBEAN Chan Ngai Sun and Kevin Chu Kam Yin attended. Wai Sze Nga earlier witnessed a horrible traffic accident. She also posted her car cam video on social media. She admitted that she was still shaken from this horrible scene, but the matter continued as she suspected that she ran into swindlers. "After I shared the video, someone from my social media platform kept sending private messages and even called me. Of course I didn't pick up. The person again left a message and claimed to be law enforcement that was investigating this case and told me to pick up his call. However I thought it was very strange." Wai Sze Nga in the end blocked the other person's account, because she believed that law enforcement would probably contact her directly like through the company. It would not privately contact her. Wong Yau Nam also said that around two years ago she ran into a similar experience. He pointed out that one day I got a call from a female cop, stating that three robbers after their crime passed by his car and escaped. Because at the time they was already in disguise and could not be easily detected, she asked him to watch his car cam's video. "But very unfortunately, because it was already several days later, the video was already deleted. I could only respond sorry and I was unable to help her. She said it's OK, she just asked him too late." However Yau Nam also said that when she contacted him she already clearly identified her department and case number. It was not a fraud. In RAPUNZEL, the segment they starred in TALES, Yau Nam played a hairstylist with a hair fetish. He admitted that he really liked the script, and even had the same idea as the director as they both hoped to be able to show viewers a different Wong Yau Nam. In addition two or three years before he already wanted to transition and no longer wanted to play kid roles. Thus he began to work out his body and watch even more movies to increase his own value. "The Director and I both really like the result this time." His co-star Wai Sze Nga agreed. "I When I saw him on the set I was already very afraid. This time in the film he would try to kill me, we would have many struggle scenes but he is big. Thus on the set I would avoid him, on the set we didn't say more than 5 sentences to each other." Yau Nam also returned the compliment to Wai Sze Nga. "I have known Michelle for many years. This was the first time we work together. I thought she was very tough. She never used a double, she would personally perform each scene." Choi Sze Wan, ANSONBEAN and Chu Kam Yin in the segment CHESHIRE CAT (MAU GIP) played cat volunteers. ANSONBEAN and Chu Kam Yin in the film wanted to pursue Choi Sze Wan through cat volunteering. ANSONBEAN even made his big screen debut. He joked that the only relationship scene he had with Choi Sze Wan was jealousy. In the future he would like to try playing a villain. Chu Kam Yin said that TALES actually was not a horror film, but a romantic film. However Choi Sze Wan lamented that unfortunately she and Chu Kam Yin did not have any intimate scene. Chu Kam Yin joked, "Why didn't you mention it earlier, it would have been great." Playing the villain, Wu Tsz Tung said that playing a villain had a lot of room to perform. Instead playing a good guy would be hard. He would like to try playing a good guy once, so he would be able to give an outstanding performance that would leave an impression with the audience. * (2023/05/25) Baby Bo Pui Yu, Hero Yuen Ching Fung and Milkson Fong Siu Chung yesterday along with executive producer and producer Lee Lam Yan promoted FATE (SAI SEUNG JI YAU BA BA HO). This time was one of the final films of the late Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor Dick Liu Kai Chi. The story was about Uncle Chi and his only son Chung Jai (Chiu Sin Hang)'s relationship, unfortunately his son passed away in an accident. Uncle Chi played the pain of losing his son just right, touching people's hearts with his excellent acting and sincere emotions. Ching Fung and Bo Pui Yu in the film had many scenes with Uncle Chi. Ching Fung recalled the experience of working with Uncle Chi and said that he was not pleased with his earliest performance in the film. "I felt very fortunate to have worked with a giant like Uncle Chi, which felt very awesome, wonderful and happy. Uncle Chi didn't speak much, but once in a vehicle she asked me about what I learned from the artist training class. At the time I thought Uncle Chi was displeased with my performance, ultimately the training class and the actual battle (acting) were different. Uncle Chi told him how he would perform if it was him. At the time I was a little frustrated, because if I knew I would have been able to do it instead of having 3 months of breakdown over this. Later I understood that Uncle Chi wanted me to use another angle to act and not to have another Liu Kai Chi." Bo Pui Yu said that in the first scene she already had to shoot the pain of losing her son. She cried until she collapsed. In addition working with the elder Uncle Chi was very stressful. She once asked him for help, and Uncle Chi pointed out that the most important was to be herself because she too had acting experience; during the shoot Uncle Chi rarely spoke. He would keep studying the character, which she benefit from as well. Speaking of her friend Esther Wan Yue Hung passing away from cancer, she said that in the past few years a group of friends has been by her side, chatting with her and giving her massages. Because in the past few months she has been in the hospital, her legs were swollen. Her tumor was very malicious and kept growing in her abdomen like she was pregnant. She could only sleep sitting up and could not lie down. She even had several operations all in order to eat. A month and a half before she had her last operation. Although she was able to take one bite of food, she already took the doctor that she was very tired and no longer wanted treatment. "Thus the doctor only gave her morphine for the pain. She was a very strong fighter, now in Heaven she no longer needed to suffer. Everyone wished her well and hoped to see her again in Heaven." Opening April 6 2023 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] "Nomad" describes the sexuality and love of today's young generation. The scene of Ken Tong and Pat Ha making love on the tram arises controversy when it is showed. In contrast, the love between Leslie Cheung and Cecilia Yip is a kind of tender and pure. Cecilia falls in love with Leslie in the first sight, they sympathy each other and then sleep in a reasonable way. This kind of love is more graceful and sweet. Besides sexuality and sex, this film also talks about the infiltration of Japanese culture into Hong Kong. Leslie is westernized but old fashion inside, Cecilia is influenced by Japanese culture and ambitious. This shows the characteristics of Hong Kong's unique culture. This film reflects the youngsters' attitude towards love and sex, which is a breakthrough as it should be a taboo in Hong Kong society at its time. The relationships among the boys and girls are also profoundly described and make it as the most realistic romance movie. YOKAIPEDIA d. [ BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] The sky above Hong Kong is not just heavy with clouds and rain, it also contains astral signs and dark omens in this esoteric neo-noir. Story 3: Raymond, a real estate agent, has his phone hacked, and worries that sensitive information about his business affairs might be leaked, and plans to escape the authorities. At the same time, his daughter tries to scam and 'catfish' a computer nerd. [ UDINE FAR EAST FILM FESTIVAL 2023 ] Amos Why’s singular approach to recording contemporary Hong Kong continues in Everyphone Everywhere, a lightly comic drama capturing scenes of pandemic-era life, exploring the cityscape and covering our tight links to mobile phones. Everyphone Everywhere's cross-cutting narrative brings together a large set of players within the mobile-communications theme. First there's designer Chung Chit (Endy Chow), who rushes to catch a ferry and leaves his phone at home. There's no time to retrieve the device, so he tries to soldier on without it – and the results are eye-opening. Eventually, he'll need to call his wife Ivy (Cecilia Choi) to awkwardly help him out. Meanwhile, soon-to-emigrate middle manager Raymond Ho (Peter Chan) starts his day with his WhatsApp account hacked and frozen. Broken contacts aside, his big fear is exposure of shady workplace practices and possible blackmail or arrest. Then there's Ana (Rosa Maria Velasco), an old classmate of theirs who's waiting in a private kitchen and getting odd messages. And all the time a young lady, Yanki (Amy Tang), and a nerdy computer wiz (Henick Chou) are busy using messaging apps for sleazy purposes. Pulling together the various plot strands, Amos Why's fourth feature spins into complex and curious entertainment. The director once again draws on rising talent, here headed by Endy Chow in a relaxed and personable role and with the others drawn from cinema, TV and popular YouTube channels. Viewers are kept on their toes as numerous characters pass by, with some appearing in dual roles and others briefly turning up to give sometimes imaginative faces to those on the other end of messaging exchanges. Why's past plots have been engineered to send cast and crew to as many corners of Hong Kong as possible, but this time things are more focused. Everyphone Everywhere starts on the island of Cheung Chau and trots around the city before settling in the Kwun Tong industrial area, building a sense of place as Chit gets lost trying to find Ana's meeting place within a massive industrial complex. The kindness (or not) of strangers and other little snippets of community life come in too, and Why doesn’t shy away from accurately showing Hong Kong’s outdoor mask-wearing requirement, which ended this March after 945 days: Everyphone Everywhere has its cast join the rest of the public in keeping their masks on. A fun bit of Covid-times weirdness is also thrown in when a scene recreates how a government alert caused phones across the city to blast sirens. Meanwhile, government banners are seen promoting last year's 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China, with the tagline heralding "A New Era." The anniversary angle brings up thought-provoking contrasts when Chit, Raymond and Ana finally meet and look back on the hopes and feelings they’d written down 25 years ago. Social shifts are also reflected when a man seems worried about others bringing up his past actions, as well as when the subject of emigration comes up. There's a lot to process in Why's unique brand of cinema, and his first two films showed it wasn’t easy to balance clear plotting with all the recording of local places and society. His third film Far Far Away saw him smoothing out the form into a highly watchable package, and that effort continues here with an easily relatable phone topic sitting beside the extensive local coverage. Viewers looking back on the Hong Kong of 2022 should be able to find Why's film an easy-going document of the city and its people in unusual times. [ SCREEN DAILY FILMART 2023 ] Following last year's hit romantic comedy Far Far Away, director Why returns with this drama about three friends who reunite after 25 years. A thematic continuation of his classic films about the neverending struggle between fate and free will, Soi Cheang delivers a gripping thriller with intensity and panache, powered by producer Johnnie To and screenwriter Yau Nai-hoi. Gordon Lam and Lokman Yeung are extraordinary as two men standing at the edge of sanity, as they fight an invisible enemy. Berlinale Special. [ BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] The sky above Hong Kong is not just heavy with clouds and rain, it also contains astral signs and dark omens in this esoteric neo-noir. In a radical and counter-intuitive move, rather than having the characters' trajectories converge towards the end, the plot instead knits their fates together from the start. Crossing paths at the scene of a heinous crime in a brothel are the serial killer perpetrator and the upstanding detective chasing him, but also a delivery boy obsessed with blood and knives and an occultist feng shui master who had predicted the victim's gory fate without being able to prevent it. The last two quickly form an unlikely pair, and this transforms the film into a surreal, hyperkinetic, expressionist buddy thriller. The horoscopes confirm that the boy will soon succumb to his bloodthirsty temptations, but to redeem past failures and save him from his fate, the fortune teller is willing to do anything. As the investigations gather pace, the pair sinks into delirium in a whirlwind of superstitions, rituals and distortions, against a backdrop of an alchemical metropolis. ------------ For the week starting May 27 2023 (Week 21) VIUTV CHILL CLUB CHART 5 WHAT IF Can : Man Yut Nei Si Ho Yun Terence Lam Ka Him https://youtu.be/3BgQTkguk0w 4 RUMOURS MIRROR https://youtu.be/qqKLKtlVey0 3 MIZU AGA https://youtu.be/mZEGEBrzqyc 2 INTO THE FOREST Serrini https://youtu.be/8uxCYA5CkP4 1 ALL DEAD ANGLE SAILOR MOON Can : Chuen Sei Gok Mei Siu Nui Jin Si LaiYing https://youtu.be/unlae1r6BcA TVB JADE SOLID GOLD 5 LITTLE GETAWAY Can : Siu Chook Jau Chantel Yiu Cheuk Fei https://youtu.be/nI2wN61aaQ4 4 BUG FIX Archie Sin Ching Fung https://youtu.be/ZDMHOPWYjvk 3 TRIVAL MATTERS OF US Can : Dan Luen Jeh Gein Siu Si Gin Lee (Lee Hung Ngai) https://youtu.be/GS3h_qm5E6E 2 LIAR Vivian Koo (Kuk Ah Mei) https://youtu.be/wi0-BZS5ZJs 1 MIZU AGA https://youtu.be/mZEGEBrzqyc METRO RADIO HIT DOMESTIC CHART 5 BOY PAINTS NAIL Can : Sau Ji Ji Mayao Ma Tin Yau https://youtu.be/RMM62z8u0IU 4 ECHO MY HEART Poki Ng https://youtu.be/6IZJ7SOPl9w 3 EYE-OPENER Can : Dai Hoi Ngan Gai Gigi Yim Ming Hay https://youtu.be/NyHCNKrmvII 2 UNCONDITIONAL LOVE Can : Ngor Dik Chun Yun Kelly Chen Wai Lam https://youtu.be/4uA8fRqwaKU 1 MIZU AGA https://youtu.be/mZEGEBrzqyc COMMERCIAL RADIO 903 TOP 20 5 TO OUR DREAMS Can : Ji Ngor Moon Dik Mung Seung Sammi Cheng Sau Man Featuring Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun https://youtu.be/ORx9rRilR9g 4 FLORAL SEA Can : Fa Hoi MC Cheung Tin Fu https://youtu.be/zhHaWGpgTDY 3 BUNGEE GUM Can : Sun Sook Ji Yu Dik Oi Panther Chan Lui https://youtu.be/WAbRviznmgY 2 TRIVAL MATTERS OF US Can : Dan Luen Jeh Gein Siu Si Gin Lee (Lee Hung Ngai) https://youtu.be/GS3h_qm5E6E 1 DEAR KIWI Can : Kei Yi Jung Ji Kiri T https://youtu.be/8DQHxh20EZ8 RTHK CHINESE POP CHART 5 MIZU AGA https://youtu.be/mZEGEBrzqyc 4 FLORAL SEA Can : Fa Hoi MC Cheung Tin Fu https://youtu.be/zhHaWGpgTDY 3 MAJUSAKA Can : Bei On Fa Ying Chi Yuet https://youtu.be/gOejhmeE4qU 2 NATURAL HIGH Can : Ji Fat Sing Sun Gaing Fan Ying Cloud Wan Ho Ying https://youtu.be/euqq_NbALCw 1 IMAGINARY FAIRGROUND Can : Yun Ying Yau Lok Cheung Hins Cheung King Hin https://youtu.be/y9ntnHvD4tQ HUAXIA ORIGINAL GOLD SONG CHART 5 BOUNDARY Can : Gai Tia Ray (Yuen Nga Wai) https://youtu.be/qpsjK0gPifA 4 YOU ARE MY WINGS Can : Nei Si Ngor Dik Chi Pong Wang Li https://youtu.be/M7MhimfCjMc 3 SUNSET OCEAN Can : Bui Doi Dei Kau Bun Pau Teens in Times https://youtu.be/HZuPnz6buvE 2 WORDLESS GROANS Can : Ngor But Si Sun, Ngor Ji Si Ping Fan Kuek Jik Au Oi Juek Nei Dik Yun Yoga Lin (Lam Yau Ga) https://youtu.be/v6xC1U3j2G0 1 HELLO, I AM ___ Can : Nei Ho, Ngor Si ___ Jackson Yee (Yik Yeung Chin Sai) https://youtu.be/8KRzzkBUTPw ------------ --------------------- ILLUME FILMS PRESENT OVER MY DEAD BODY https://www.facebook.com/illume.films.inspire Opening May 19 2023 in North America CANADA Richmond, BC Silvercity Riverport 19 IMAX Cinemas Winnipeg, MB Cinema City Northgate Ottawa, ON Cineplex South Keys Cinemas TORONTO ON Cineplex Cinemas Yonge-Dundas Markham, ON Cineplex Cinemas Markham and VIP UNITED STATES LOS ANGELES, CA AMC Atlantic Times Square 14 AMC Orange 30 AMC Puente Hills 20 SAN DIEGO CA AMC Mission Valley 20 AMC UTC 14 SAN FRANCISCO CA Meteron 16 SANTA CLARA/SAN JOSE CA Mercado 20 ATLANTA GA Sugarloaf Mills 18 CHICAGO IL River East 21 BOSTON MA Boston Common 19 GAITHERSBURG MD Rio Cinems 18 CHERRY HILL NJ Cherry Hill 24 ELIZABETH NJ Jersey Gardens 20 NEW YORK NY Empire 25 DALLAS TX Grapevine Mills 24 HOUSTON TX Fountains 18 LYNNWOOD WA Alderwood 16 ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://www.geocities.ws/hktopten | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
