Director Soi Cheang Pou Soi, actors Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Lokman Yeung, Ng Wing Sze, Bonnie Wong Man Wai, Berg Ng Ting Yip and others attended. Over 200 fans were on hand to show their support. When all of MIRROR came to support their captain Lokman, fans even broke into instant screams. Other guests included Josie Ho Chiu Yi, Mimi Kung Chi Yan and Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen. Lam Ka Tung on the stage talked about his production experience. He joked that when he got director Cheang Pou Soi's call his heart skipped a beat. As soon as he heard his name he knew it was "big trouble". This was the trauma LIMBO (JI CHI) left. When the shoot officially began, the first scene was at the cemetery. He got the script at 11 PM and the next morning was the shoot. The dialogues were all in Hakka and Feng Shui terms. After that every scene was "flying paper". The director truly drove him into madness. Ka Tung said that the final scene on the roof also shot several versions. "I lost my voice from all the shoots. The next day I even had to shoot several more different versions. This film has given a great revelation. Although the will of Heaven couldn't be disobeyed, it still had restrictions. You still have to be a kind person. I am saying this to you, Cheang Pou Soi." Ka Tung stated that working on a Cheang Pou Soi movie was very tough. This time just one shot of the rooftop scene took over 50 takes; The director asked for one 5 minute long straight take. However he also would not turn down his movies either, because Cheang Pou Soi made him overcome big challenges. "My life is still tough! He constantly would tell me to try. Actually he already had a bottom line in his heart, but he would force you into madness. You wouldn't get the script until you are on the set, and it would already be several pages long, and the Hakka required a country accent and a lot of terminology. The time to prepare was very few." Ka Tung dressed up last night and appeared to be very fit. He said that he got into shape first on his recent break, if he would play fat in the next movie he could very quickly gain weight. As long as he had ice cream everyday, he would become fat in 3 days. Ka Tung earlier worked on additional shoots for the film I DID IT MY WAY (CHIM HUNG). He pointed out that producer Andy Lau Tak Wa after watching the film felt it needed more scenes. then they shot several more action scenes at Central. Ka Tung said that he has not planned to take a long vacation. "My acting bug still hasn't had its fill, I have a movie in negotiation. It's only a problem with the price." Did he no longer want to accept movies with a "shoulder tap"? He chuckled. "My shoulder is so crooked, I would have septal defect soon. However I hope for the market to be good!" Indeed the market would have to good in order to actor salaries to be good. Lokman last night invited many friends to the premiere. MIRROR intended on booking a show and giving away tickets for him, he did not know whether it would happen. He himself had no plan to book a show. Perhaps a big group of friends would go to the movies and see the audience response. Speaking of the film's decent reviews, would he hope for a Hong Kong Film Award nomination next year? Lokman said, "If I would be nominated of course I would be happy, but I don't dare to say whether I have confidence or not." Earlier Keung To became his group mate's "genie". He pointed out that if he truly would be nominated, he would ask Keung To to vote for his competition. If the others were jinxed, his chances would be even better. In addition Director Cheang Pou Soi said that during the audition he saw the tolerance in his character, maybe because he was MIRROR's captain. He said, "As a captain he had to be able to hold his tongues, steadied the entire person, observed more happenings and be a little more sensitive. I would be able to absorb what the Director said a little better." * (2023/04/18) The Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting directed Ying Wa Girls' School documentary film TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF (CUP SUP GAU SHUI DIK NGOR) two nights ago won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Film amid controversy. She did not attend, as co-director Kwok Wai Lun and the team accepted the award on her behalf. Kwok Wai Lun in his speech encouraged Hong Kong documentary film directors to continue to work hard, not to be afraid. He mentioned the "shoot it then worry, edit it then worry, release it then worry about it" comment, which has caused an extremely large debate online and drawn criticism from many online. Kwok Wai Lun explained that he has learned the lesson from TO, needed to know how to protect creators' productions and films, to avoid problems from happening again, so they would be able to make their movies out in the open. TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF received the Hong Kong Film Award Best Film and Cheung Yuen Ting's co-director Kwok Wai Lun was responsible for giving the speech. Kwok Wai Lun thanked Ying Wa Girls' School for their trust and making this documentary film that span 10 years. "Hong Kong documentary film directors, please continue your hard work and make documentary films, don't be afraid, because the times need documentary films to be made, to use cameras to record what is happening to us. Remember not to turn off the equipment, keep shooting, don't be afraid, shoot it then worry, edit it then worry, release it then worry about it." Kwok Wai Lun spoke to the media after the Awards and talked about how he felt about winning Best Film amid controversy. He said, "It's a part of documentary film, events that the documentary film gave birth to would continue to be shot and discussed. Whether positive or negative, we would accept them." When asked about his comments in his speech would lead to further controversy, was he encouraging directors to do what he suggested? "I think this lesson makes everyone know, how to protect creators' productions and films. After learning from this lesson, we have the experience. We would prevent problems from happening again. We can make our movies out in the open." Kwok Wai Lun reveled that he asked Cheung Yuen Ting to attend the Hong Kong Film Awards, but the incident still had great impact on her. In addition she has already publicly said that she would not attend, so he accepted the award on her behalf. Has Cheung Yuen Ting sent a text message to him? He said, "I think she probably is very happy. She feels that the 10 years were so tough on us, at the Hong Kong Film Awards, Film Critic Society and the Film Directors' Guild, 3 competitions that represent Hong Kong very well, they gave us awards to encourage us. This type of recognition, any team would be very happy about and very encouraged by. Everyone can imagine that she certainly has grievances. Her speech mentioned falling into darkness, you can imagine how hard to take her emotions have been; but at the same time, this award has given her encouragement. I hope she would slowly walk out of this controversy's darkness. (Would you feel receiving the award is the film's vindication from the industry?) I don't dare to say, I can't represent them. If I speak objectively, they recognize this film's art and content. Can we treat the film as a film and controversy as controversy and keep them separate? I don't know, their recognition of this film, I believe is based on art and content. This film truly deserves it, unfortunately it still hasn't have the opportunity for many people to see it and personally experience what it is. When everyone sees what happens in the movie, I believe we can have fair and just evaluations. (Would you arrange for the film's release again?) This question is more complicated, all sides have to sit down and talk about how to resolve it." Kwok Wai Lun's comments in his speech caused online criticized. Later at the celebration he declined any interview. Wong Hin Yan with the film THE NARROW ROAD (JAK LO MEI CHUN) won the Best Original Film Score. When he accepted the award he thanked director Lam Sum and the actors. Wong Hin Yan mentioned that he was nominated last year too but did not win. The suit he wore was bought at an auction sale, it was very cheap. Last year he wore it, this year he did not have a sponsor so he kept wearing it. He decided that from now on if he would have the chance to participate in the Hong Kong Film Awards he would keep wearing this suit. "Until the day when I can see all of the movies Lam Sum has made at the movies." The crowd applauded enthusiastically and Lam Sum was especially touched in the audience. According to data, Lam Sum in 2021 with Ren Xia directed MAY YOU STAY FOREVER YOUNG (SIU NIN). Its story had to do with the 2019 social movement. At the 58th Golden Horse Awards it was nominated for Best New Director and Best Editing. In April last year it was released in Taiwan, but so far it has no release date in Hong Kong. * (2023/04/18) The films THE SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG) and THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET (BAK YUN CHING CHUN) two nights ago held celebrations after the Hong Kong Film Awards. Ho Cheuk Tin with THE SPARRING PARTNER won Best New Director. This film's Best Editing award was a surprise, but he felt disappointed and regret over the cast not winning any award. Was he confident about Mak Pui Tung and Yeung Wai Lun's Best Actor chances before hand? He said, "I had confidence in everyone, but I am happy with two awards too." Speaking of the Best New Director Award's HK$ 100,000 prize money, he said, "I can use it for rent, I can resolve the problem of survival and life temporarily." He said that he had no expectation to win Best Director, getting the nomination was very rare. As for THE SPARRING PARTNER losing Best Film, Ho Cheuk Tin lamented that it was beyond his means. THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET's director Lau Kok-Rui lost Best New Director but felt being nomination was the greatest recognition. He was the happiest that Sahal Zaman (Lam Lok) won Best New Performer. He said, "(Anthony) Wong Chau Sun and I have already won at the Golden Horse Award, so we can pretend it's an alternative grand slam!" * (2023/04/18) Michael Wong Man Tak and Gardner Tse Kwan Ho two nights ago were Hong Kong Film Awards guest presenters. It happened to be Wong Man Tak's birthday, so Tse Kwan Ho celebrated with him backstage. Wong Man Tak happily said, "This year originally I had no plan to celebrate my birthday. First the children are in Hong Kong and secondly I have to work. I would never guess that Kwan Ho would give me a surprise. Actually Kwan Ho's birthday was several weeks ago, we have the same astrological sign. No wonder we get along so well." He also said that originally he would have to go to the U.S. to discuss work, but he received the Hong Kong Film Awards invitations and immediately agreed. He also thanked his wife Janet Ma Sze Wai for designing his look. * (2023/04/18) The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards took place two nights ago. Sean Lau Ching Wan won Best Actor for the three time, and Sammi Cheng Sau Man finally got a taste of Best Actress and broke down in tears. DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN) with four awards became the film with the most awards. Among them Wai Ka Fai won Best Director but lost Best film to TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF (CUP SUP GAU SHUI DIK NGOR) amidst controversy. No matter how the awards turned out, as the Hong Kong Film Awards president Derek Yee Tung Sing said, the Hong Kong Film Awards Board of Directors was only an organization that serviced the film industry. After 41 years it truly was an industry award, without any arbitration authority. Thus this time the results confirmed the voters' will. He as the association president had no stance, the association would not interfere with any result. Many film companies also had a joint celebration after the Hong Kong Film Awards, with many winners in attendance. Two nights ago the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards took place and all the awards have been presented. Many film companies also held a joint celebration. The fresh out of the oven Best Actor Lau Ching Wan and Best Actress Cheng Sau Man held their awards with excitement and talked about their victories. Also on hand was Louis Koo Tin Lok and his WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) team, boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing and Best Director Wai Ka Fai, Best Actor Lau Ching Wan's DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS team, the Best Actress Cheng Sau Man and her LOST LOVE (LAU SHUI LOK FA) team, and the Best Supporting Actress Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, MIRROR's Edan Lui Cheuk On, Jer Lau Ying Ting, Keung To and captain Lokman Yeung; TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF held another celebration. One of the directors Kwok Wai Lun and the team after the celebration posed for a photo outside but declined any interview. He still has not explained his heavily criticized comment, "shoot it, edit it then worry, release it then worry about it". Director Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting attended neither the Awards nor the celebration. Changed in a fiery red look for the celebration, Sammi hug Candy Yu On On out of excitement as soon as she saw her. She admitted that her award emotions still have not settled. She was emotional because this journey has not been easy. Through her award she hoped to be able to remind people with dreams to persist and not give up so easily. Winning her first Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress, Sammi said that in the past three awards felt very meaningful. She said, "The first time was at New Talent, the second time was the first time I won the radio station's Most Favorite Female Singer and Song Gold Prize because they were very hard to win. The other one is this." Sammi at the same time won the Best Original Film Song. She said that she never thought about it before and praised the other nominees for their great performance, for example Keung to and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi's songs were very suitable for their films. On the award stage, Sammi said that switching from comedy to drama was very hard. Would she no longer work on comedies? She said, "I wouldn't mind. I feel it's hard because my singer image is very heavy. Even in just a white tee people still feel I am very Sammi, so it's harder than harder. However I hope viewers would put down this baggage and treat me like an ordinary actor. Viewers would naturally feel a good performance. I feel this time has broken through many viewers' existing impression of me. I am very happy." As for whether she would get a raise after winning Best Actress, Sammi whined that when she took LOST LOVE (LAU SHUI LOK FA) she did not take a salary. She said, "I would start with the script. I would also support new directors. I feel taking the salary for production budget would be even better, this way everyone would benefit." Reaching the top of music and film, Sammi was asked would her next goal be television or stage performance? She said, "With a good script I wouldn't mind making them. (Making a series would be very tough?) Anything can be tough, but as long as I get ample time to rest, now I am old they would have to accommodate a little." As for her good partner Andy Lau Tak Wa presenting the award to her, Sammi said that with a good subject she too would like to work with him again. She also said that this time winning with Lau Ching Wan she reminded of working together on MY LEFT EYE SEES GHOSTS (NGOR JOR NGAN GEIN DOH GWAI). When Sammi heard that Ching Wan praised her as a good actor, she was so excited she went up against the wall. "Really?" She said that she was very moved to get his compliment, because Ching Wan was publicly recognized to have super acting skills. It was a great encouragement. If she would be able to work with Ching Wan again, she would be willing to take a little less salary. The three time Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan said that the feeling has not been too different from the previous awards, instead he was happy to see the new look of Hong Kong Film Awards because it had a great team. At the same time he also saw many new actors, new directors, the entire industry had a lot of motion and he deeply believed it was the beginning of a new era. It would not be without successors like before. Has Ching Wan thought about making the jump to Hollywood like Yeung Chi King and challenge the Oscars? He said, "I haven't thought too far ahead, I am already very happy with making Hong Kong films. I just congratulated her. She did something that was very amazing, for real it's no joke. It's not easy to go there, she also represented never giving up." As for accepting the award from buddy Francis Ng Chun Yu, who the Best Actor Awards always seemed to just pass him by, Ching Wan said, "He was the earliest among us to win the Golden Horse Awards. He was outstanding in that he was able to joke about this. I have worked with him on many movies. He absolutely deserved to win. He is a good actor, only a little strange as a person, haha." Ching Wan revealed that he and Chun Yu would again work together, saying that as actors and friends everyone would give their all to the performance. They would not hold back out of courtesy. As for whether he would have opportunities to work with other friends, Ching Wan joked, "It's a little difficult, the role distribution would be quite a bother because no one would be courteous. We also have to find a director to keep us under control." * (2023/04/18) Four MIRROR members Edan Lui Cheuk On, Jer Lau Ying Ting, Keung To and captain Lokman Yeung attended the celebration after the Hong Kong Film Awards. Nominees Edan, Jer and Keung To all went home empty handed, but they were not disappointed. Jer said, "Many people have already been nominated many times, like Sammi said she herself was nominated many times already before winning the award. Actually it really is very hard, I am already very happy with the nomination." Losing the Best New Performer Award to the 10 year old actor Sahal Zaman (Lam Lok), Edan also agreed. "I didn't expect to win, getting the nomination I was already secretly very happy. I have zero disappointment completely. I instead feel Lam Lok on the stage is really very cute. I am happy for him." Did he feel like he lost to a child? He said, "What is the problem with losing to a child, he really performed very well. I myself actually still have a lot of room for improvement. I am truly too new, I have a lot of places that I haven't done well enough. Thus losing s also very normal." They were excited about being able to participate in the Hong Kong Film Awards, where they saw many superstars. In particular they were in the same location as the Oscars Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King). When she received the applause from the entire crowd they were rather moved. They too wanted to get a photo but unfortunately they did not have the chance. Later the event finally arranged for the four to pose with the fresh out of oven Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan. Fulfilling their wish the four were very happy. Keung To even raised the victory sign out of excitement. They were very humble and polite during the photo shoot, as they left the center spot for Ching Wan. The friendly Ching Wan not only shook hands with the four but also joked, "Don't worry, everyone. I won't join MIRROR." Lokman before the Awards picked Edan and Jer to win, but they did not. Lokman joked that next year when group mates would be nominated for an award again, he would learn to pick the competition. Speaking of Sammi Cheng Sau Man winning the Best Original Film Song, Keung To was not disappointed over the loss and felt the it was very reasonable for the elder to get the award; when he learned that Sammi publicly praised his RAIN OR SHINE was very suitable for the film, Keung To said thank you for her appreciation. Keung To at the celebration kept humming songs and was made fun of for wanting to sing more. He joked that it was because he has already warmed up. Edan pointed out that Keung To perhaps relaxed after the award show ended, so he sang a few more verses. The four before the Awards cheered each other on. Did Keung To pick the two brothers too? He awkwardly smiled and said, "I wouldn't dare to say it again in the future!" * (2023/04/18) Louise Wong Dan Nei and Terrance Lau Chun Him two nights ago presented the Best Screenplay Award at the Hong Kong Film Awards. The award went to DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN)'s Wai Ka Fai, Ryker Chan Wai Bun and Mak Tin Shu, but Wong Dan Nei was stuck after saying "Mak Tin". She asked Lau Chun Him, "How do you read this word?" Lau Chun Hin did not seem to know either and in the end they just skipped the word. Some online criticized them for being unprofessional, in particular more online questioned whether Wong Dan Nei did her homework before hand. Yesterday Wong Dan Nei apologized on her social media story. "Last night at the Awards my performance was less than ideal, I feel very sorry to both the Awards and the recipients. I truly have no excuse for this situation, and I am willing to learn this lesson. From now on I would certainly work hard to do even better and be more responsible on all jobs. I hope in the future if I am lacking in other areas, everyone please continue to provide more advice." * (2023/04/17) The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards took place last night at the Hong Kong Cultural Center. The Best Actor and Best Actress competitions were very fierce. In the end Sean Lau Ching Wan with the film DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN) won Best Actor, Wai Ka Fai with the same film won his first Best Director. The Professional Achievement Awards went to veteran filmmakers Sek Kei and Law Kar. The 91 year old Bowie Woo Fung became this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. The controversial documentary film TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF (CUP SUP GAU SHUI DIK NGOR) caused a big storm due to issues with some of the subjects' permission, suspended its release on February 6th and in the end the Ying Wa school declared that it would withdraw the film from competition. No film footage was provided to the Hong Kong Film Awards, but the film was still nominated for Best Film, Best Director and Best Editing. In the end it won Best Film and received applause from the entire crowd. Director Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting did not appear in person to accept the award. Producer Wong Wai was also absent due to illness. Three of the students in the film accepted the award with the production team on the stage. Co-director Kwok Wai Lun thanked the film's soul Cheung Yuen Ting and read the speech on her behalf. "From the black hole of (Alex) Law Kai Yui's death to the release of MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF, I momentarily hid in a little garden. Because of a storm I was thrown into a dark forest. All of these made me realize the uncertainty of life, but what Ryuichi Sakamoto said before his death has given me great inspiration. Thank you everyone who during this period still provided me with support and encouragement. Thank you to the industry for the recognition of this film, which gradually showed me the light amid darkness and let me know that although I was in an abyss of life, it still symbolized that the possibility of only going up. Thank you Headmaster Shek for giving me this mission, we have no regret. Thank you to all the students who participated in the production, thank you for your courage of facing yourselves, and facing the audience. Thank you to the team that have shared the joy and the pain with us over 10 years. How many 10 years would life give everyone to chase a dream? Facing the highs and lows together, the most valuable is the 10 years of honing that has made us acquaintances during difficult times. Thank you everyone." Kwok Wai Lun also expressed his personal gratitude. "Thank you to the Ying Wa Girls' School for the trust, permitting us to make this documentary that span ten years. I personally want to say one thing: directors who are making documentary films in Hong Kong, please continue to work hard on making documentary films. Don't be afraid, because the times require documentary filmmaking, using cameras to record what is happening to us. Remember not to turn off the machine, keep shooting, don't be scared, shoot first and worry later, edit first and worry later, release then worry about it." Ying Wa Girls' School also issued a statement. "We would like to express our gratitude for the voters' recognition, but because the school has already decided to withdraw from the competition in February, we have not sent any representative to attend the award ceremony tonight. This school hereby extends a sincere apology to the Hong Kong Film Awards and thank the organizers for their assistance and understanding over the past few months. TO took 10 years to make. The original intention of the production was through documenting the school's rebuilding and the students' growth experience to examine the meaning of education. This school thanks our alumni Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting for directing this film, alumni Wong Wai for producing it and their production team. With extremely limited resources they have completed this arduous production. We would also thank the 6 young alumni in the film for participating over the years. In addition, many members of the production teams are Cheung and Wong's classmates and alumni. They all participated in the production work without any compensation, out of love for their alma mater and love and protection of their junior alumni. Their contribution is worth to be fully recognized. This school reiterates that during the production process of this film, the team conducted the production under the principles that the subjects knowingly granted permissions to. It absolutely has no intention of forced or hidden production. We also permitted students to withdraw during the production process." Kwok Wai Lun said backstage that he would accept both the positive and the negative, and that the school has been in negotiation with everyone to resolve the issues. He also said that they invited the three students who were on the stage and they were willing to attend. Would he encourage other directors to tell actors shoot first then worry about it later? He felt that he was teaching film creators to protect film productions, to avoid problems. He would continue to make movies out in the open. Although he wanted to attend with Cheung Yuen Ting, but she has suffered a lot of trauma and already stated that she would not attend. He said that she probably would be pleased and encouraged by the award, and said that she certainly has suffered and had a hard time emotionally. He hoped that she would slowly exit the controversy and darkness. As for the award, he did not dare to say whether it was a vindication. He felt that it was a recognition of art and content. He did not know whether that would be separate from the controversy, regretting that not many have been able to experience the work in person. If they have seen this movie they would know what it is, and he believed that the judgment would be fairer. Awards president Derek Yee Tung Sing after the event was asked how he felt about TO's Best Film Award. He pointed out that the Awards had no opinion and stressed that the Hong Kong Film Awards Board of Directors was an organization that serves the industry, without any relation to how many movies Hong Kong makes every year, what kind of subjects and how they are distributed. As long as their releases met the criteria, the event would provide the service. If they got the vote numbers then they would be nominated, if they got the votes then they would win. Some would win and some would lose, which would seem very cruel. However as an industry award, all of the nominees should enjoy it thoroughly. No one would know what the results would be. As for TO, Yee Tung Sing said that earlier he has already communicated with the media. Recently he has seen online claims that the Hong Kong film industry and the Hong Kong Film Awards are small circles. He pointed out that the event has been held for over 40 years, it would depend on from what angle someone would look at this industry award. So far it has 2,000 voters, whether that would be a small circle it would also depend on the point of view. After this conflict the Hong Kong Film Awards has been unreasonable swept in. The event has not handled such a long period, as the school was willing to provide footage only a week before. Unfortunately the inspection deadline has passed and the footage in the end was not aired. Having won the Hong Kong Film Awards twice, the 59 year old Lau Ching Wan became the Best Actor favorite and did not disappoint. After 8 years he became this year's fresh out of the oven Best Actor, the third Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor in his 40 year career. His wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming did not accompany him. When he accepted his award he humorously said, "Don't worry, I won't sing!" Then he said, "Thank you very much Mr. Yeung (Albert Yeung Sau Sing), Wai Ka Fai and the team, for spending many lonely nights with me. Thank you to several pretty girls for helping me find what I am wearing, and my wife and my team; they have always seen Detective long before this movie, because they use their abilities that the average person may not be able to withstand to tolerate my work, accepting one nuclear explosion everyday. For anyone with a dream, as long as you are willing to work hard and live long enough, the dream would one day, very strangely and with a little regret, be fulfilled; but that doesn't matter, not everything in life goes your way. I also have to thank everyone in front of the camera, friends who love Hong Kong film and Hong Kong. Cheers and jeers I would both accept, because it's better than silence." As for the 69 year old, two time Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Sylvia Chang with the film A LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT (DUN FOR LAN SHAN) was nominated for Best Actress. Before the race she was the favorite and had hope to win her third Best Actress, but Sammi Cheng Sau Man ended up with a surprise victory. The LOST LOVE (LAU SHUI LOK FA) actress also won Best Original Film Song. On the stage Sammi's eyes were all red from crying and hug the guest presenter Andy Lau Tak Wa. She said, "The Best Actress award for me couldn't be more distant, sometimes it also felt like it was just a step away. I want to say that from being recognized as a comedy actor to transitioning to dramatic actor, I put in a lot of effort and ran into many difficulties; to today everyone sees the transformation in my performance. I am very grateful to have run into this LOST script. Thank you very much Director Ka Ching Fung, producer, screenwriters; thank you even more to every actor in the film, this awards consists all your effort and contribution. I also thank my family, my father in Heaven, thank you Mama in front of the television, my three older sisters and little brother, especially little brother. He has used his intelligence to help me resolve many problems." She also encouraged people who are chasing their dreams around the world, never give up. Then she screamed out of excitement, "This time finally I am not also ran on the track, I can cross the finish line!" She also followed Bowie Woo Fung's lead and sang "Do you know, I waited until the flowers are wilted". Sammi did not thank her husband Andy Hui Chi On. Backstage she said that when she got home she would celebrate with him. She knew that he has prepared cuisine for her. "When I get home I would thank him. From choosing what to wear to putting on make up, he has been cheering me on. Earlier he sent a text to me." Another focus of the awards of course was the guy group MIRROR's Keung To, Edan and Jer. In particular Edan with two movies directly clashed with Jer for the Best New Performer. In the end the 10 year old child actor Sahal Zaman knocked them out! When the result was revealed Edan maintained his smile, while Jer appeared disappointed. Nominated for Best Original Film Song with his song RAIN OR SHINE, Keung To was defeated as well. Presenting Best New Performer, the fresh out of the oven Oscar Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) received a minute long ovation when she appeared. She was very touched. "You have made me very happy. Hi everyone, I am Yeung Chi King. I am very happy the Awards gave me an opportunity to be here and say to everyone, thank you for your love and support all along. I feel that I am very suitable to present this award, because my first nomination was for YES MADAM! (WONG GA SI JEH) in 1986 for Best New Performer. As long as you are willing to hard work and struggle, NEVER GIVE UP! Dreams would ultimately come true!" Best New Performer went to THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET (BAK YUN CHING CHUN)'s Sahal Zamam (Lam Lok), who defeated Edan Lui Cheuk On, Jer Lau Ying Ting and Henick Chou Hon Ning. In the audience Edan and Jer were very gracious, maintaining their smile and applauding. Lam Lok said, "Thank you Heavenly Father for giving me the ability to make movies, thank you Hong Kong Film Awards for presenting the award to me, thank you Parents. I also want to thank the director and Wong Chau Sun, who always teaches me how to act. Making the movie was a lot of fun, would everyone please go to the movies and see THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET?" Wong Chau Sun applauded in the audience and was happy for Lam Lok. As for Best Supporting Actor, Michael Hui Koon Man with WHERE THE WIND BLOWS (FUNG JOI HEI SI) defeated Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Peter Chan Charm Man, Jan Lamb Hoi Fung to win. Hui Koon Man actually won the 1st Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor. After receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award last year, this time he was on the stage again to accept the award. He said, "Getting an award for a non comedy is something I never even dream of, because I have always wanted to make people laugh. I have no interest in playing serious roles, but this movie I had a lot of fun making. It made me feel like a newcomer, especially after the pandemic I have a different view. I feel life is short and needs to be cherished even more. When Director (Philip) Yung Tsz Kwong asked me to play this role, I didn't have any confidence at all because it wasn't a funny character. I even had to deliver a 10 minute monologue in English in one take, which wasn't simple at all. My wife just told me, 'Just try it. Sun Wukong knows more than just doing flips. During the shoot I didn't get a single laugh on the set, the director even cried. If you have the courage to try something news, anything can happen." He continued that he still had a wish, he has not directed and starred in a comedy that has touched his heart. He planned to challenge that this year. He joked that his brother Sam Hui Koon Kit was jumping around like a monkey at his concerts, so he would invite him to guest star. This year's Best Supporting Actress had a considerably fierce battle. Finally TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM)'s Ivana Wong Yuen Chi defeated Lin Minchen, Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, Patra Au Ka Man to win. Having won the award in 2015, this was her second award. As soon as she reached the stage she let out a scream, "Thank you everyone, and to the entire TABLE FOR SIX family, and thank you very much Director for letting me join into this family." She joked that sometimes she would ask herself whether she was a singer, an actor, or a creator? "Because I have many dreams, everyone welcome me to perform on different platforms. Only then was I able to get closer to my dreams. Thank you everyone for accepting my becoming of an actor." Of course she also had to thank her family and her fans. She thanked her music fans for supporting her films. She also hoped that if she had film fans, they would support her singing. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award Bowie Woo Fung received a standing ovation from the entire event. "The Hong Kong Coliseum applause makes me very excited, the applause here makes me feel very touched. Please be seat. I am touched because the applause came from the best of film." Called Brother Sau by everyone, he said that starting in film at age 21 and has worked for a full 70 years in the industry. Time really has been very long, but looking back it seemed like it was just several months ago. Brother Sau also proudly said that he has a personal record that so far no one would be able to break. "I set this record, no one can break it. During the Cantonese film era, I have worked with all the actresses. This is something that is worth me being proud of, hahaha, with Pak Yin, Tsi Law Lin, Pak Suet Sin, Yam Kim Fai, (Patricia) Lam Fung, Ng Kwan Lai, (Patsy) Ka Ling, (Josephine) Siao Fong Fong, (Connie) Chan Bo Chu, (Nancy) Sit Ka Yin." Brother Sau said that he never fought for fame in the industry, which made his friends worry but he said that people would naturally know if he was good. "As Cantonese films declined I no longer had lead roles to play. If I did I would definitely be in a support role. Just as I thought that, my wife woke me up. She said that the lead role is a title. If you like it just do it, so I kept working. I went into television and had a lot of fun, I even took in 16 godchildren." Later co-star and good friend Nancy Sit Ka Yin presented the award to him. Sister Ka Yin praised Brother Sau for his professional spirit that was worth young generations to learn from. He truly deserved the Lifetime Achievement Award. After accepting the award Brother Sau humorously said, "The award is very heavy, (Nick) Cheung Ka Fai said, 'Godfather, this award should have been yours long ago.' I said that everything had an process, just like that, I got the 'process' I deserve." Later as Brother Sau picked up the award, he pretended to wipe the drool from his mouth and sang Jacky Cheung Hok Yau's hit. "Do you know, do you know, I waited until the flowers are wilted." Then he again showed off his dancing skills and danced the cha cha with Ka Yin. Woo Fung back stage said that he would celebrate with family and friends. Friends even said that they would set off a strand of big firecrackers to celebrate. He was very happy to receive the award because friends have always treated him very well. God son Nick Cheung Ka Fai was working on a movie abroad and already told him he would find him after his return. Sandy Lam Yik Lin from a faraway place already congratulated him. He even pointed out that this award did not represent an end. He would continue to charge ahead, whether in concert or acting. He even hoped to win the Best Supporting Actor award. Law Kar and Sek Kei received the Professional Achievement Award. Sek Kei was absent due to illness and Ng See Yuen accepted it on his behalf. Ng See Yuen said, "Sek Kei asked me to thank the Hong Kong Film Awards for making the precedence of presenting an award to film writers. He feels very pleased and wants to thank Hong Kong filmmakers of the past half century for making countless good films, which gave him the opportunity to enjoy them and then documented them with words." Law Kar said, "I feel very honored to be able to stand on the stage and accept the Professional Achievement Award. I have retired for almost 20 years. If I am able, I still would do things that are related and beneficial to the film culture, pass on to the younger generation, so they would be able to continue to advance and improve the Hong Kong film culture." Although they returned disappointed, MIRROR stole most of the spotlight as a large group of MIRROR fans came to show support on a large scale. Over 500 in blue Edan fans conducted a sea and land operation in an organized manner, with a yacht and support signs they exchanged cheers with the fans at the Promenade. Never thought about winning before the race, Edan expressed appreciation to the fans for their support. As for the Hong Kong Film Awards program misprint of his English name in replace of Lau Ching Wan's, Edan joked, "I want to keep it, maybe it would be impossible to appear on that page (Best Actor page) in a whole lifetime!" In addition, when Louise Wong Dan Nei and Terrance Lau Chun Him presented the Best Screenplay award to DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN)'s Wai Ka Fi, Ryker Chan Wai Bun and Mak Tin Shu, Wong Dan Nei did not know how to read the word "Shu" and asked Lau Chun Him on the spot. Wai Ka Fai in this speech said that the actors under the "flying paper" condition still performed well. Chan Wai Bun directly called that Lau Ching Wan a monster, because he truly read a big pile of dialogue with just one glimpse and gave an exciting performance on top of that. He was truly amazing. The Hong Kong Film Awards took place last night, the program went on sale earlier but was found with typographical error. On the cover fold in poster, the Best Actor nominee Sean Lau Ching Wan was mistakenly written as "Edan Lui". On the Best New Performer page Jer Lau Ying Ting's English name went from Jer Lau to Jer Laui. The event on social media issued an apology. "In regards to the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards program's fold in poster due to program production and planning company 18/22 mistakenly writing Best Actor nominee Mr. Sean Lau Ching Wan as Edan Lui, and Best New Performer nominee Mr. Jer Lau Ying Ting's English name, this association expresses its deepest regret. We hereby offer our apology to all three, and has already urged the company to make suitable arrangements to exchange the fold in for readers." Before presenting the awards in 19 categories, the actors first dressed up to walk the red carpet. This year the Awards deliberately moved the red carpet to the grand stairway on the Promenade and even set up a "time tunnel". Each entering artist would first go through the "tunnel" then walk along the beautiful Victoria Harbor scenery to the red carpet area before ascending the stairway to the venue. Celebrities and stars on the red carpet included Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Andy Lau Tak Wa, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Peter Chan Ho Sun and daughter Chan Si Ji, Nancy Sit Ka Yin, Karen Mok Man Wai, Leo Ku Kui Ke, Ann Hui On Wa, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Keung To, Jer Lau Ying Ting, Isabella Leong Lok Si, Lin Min Chen and others. When Yeung Chi King, Cheng Sau Man, Lau Tak Wa, Lau Ching Wan, Keung To, Edan Lui Cheuk On and others appeared they caused a stir! Sit Ka Yin admitted that she dressed up to present the honor of the Lifetime Achievement Award to Bowie Woo Fung, and said that she informed TVB in advance that she would appear on ViuTV. Cheng Sau Man with LOST LOVE (LAU SHUI LOK FA) received her 7th Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress nomination. When she stepped onto the red carpet she ran into Sit Ka Yin and Sister Ka Yin told her she voted for her. Sammi was rather happy kept thanking her. Speaking of husband Andy Hui Chi On, she said that it was enough for On Jai to watch on television at home to support her. Nominated for Best Supporting Actress with the film FAR FAR AWAY (YUEN LO SHAN KA LA), Jennifer Yu Heung Ying despite her defeat announced online before the race that she was 4 months pregnant. Then she wore 7 inch boots to the red carpet with her husband Tim Luk Ching To in tow throughout. Tim joked that attending the awards ceremony, he was more nervous than being a Papa. When reporters congratulated her, she happily said, "Thank you everyone, even without an award I still get the congratulations! Of course I hope the baby would bring luck to me and take home an award; but the nomination already represents that baby is very lucky, whether I win or not I am very happy." Yu Heung Ying said that the pregnancy has been decent. Now she was able to eat all she would want, she would not have to watch her diet in order to dress up. She also revealed that she was working on a movie, in which she happened to play a pregnant woman. "The film wouldn't wrap until May. I would be careful at work, I wouldn't move too much." Edan Lui Cheuk On with the films HONG KONG FAMILY (GOR SI GOR JIT) and CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HAP GA LAT) was nominated twice for Best New Performer and would compete with his group mate, MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR)'s Jer Lau Ying Ting. However his English name in the event program has been misprinted as Best Actor nominee Sean Lau Ching Wan's English name. Edan said, "I know, I thought it's very funny. I even want to save a misprint copy, since my English name was able to appear on the Best Actor page. I don't know whether I would have this opportunity in this lifetime." Edan attracted over 500 fans, some even prepared a yacht across from the Avenue of Stars promenade to cheer for him! He said that even he was surprised, he never thought that fans would be so thoughtful. He was very grateful for everyone's support. "Thank you very much, fans, for your support, and witnessing this special day with them. Not matter who between Jer and me would win it doesn't matter, we agreed that whoever goes on stage would thank the other and buy dinner." One of the Best Actor nominee Sean Lau Ching Wan said that he was not nervous, and joked that he was there to wait for the result. Since having won the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor twice and been nominated 17 times as the "most nominated" male artist, he naturally did not need to be nervous. He said that this year instead he felt very happy because he saw many people who have supported the Hong Kong Film Awards were here; as for the program misprint of his English name, he generously said, "That's no big deal!" He said that he has not been upset about this and even hoped that everyone would understand, because many workers were volunteers and were already working very hard. He also joked that he too wanted a misprint copy for keepsake. He also revealed that although his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming did not walk the red carpet with him, she was on hand to help. Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Jer Lau Ying Ting, and Keung To with MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) were respectively nominated for Best Actress, Best New Performer, and Best Original Film Song. The "mother and sons" trio were dressed in black and white and walked the red carpet together. As for the program's misprint of English names, Jer said that he knew it was human error and the event has already made correction reprints. He would not mind too much and even wanted to follow Edan's example and save for the misprint edition for a keepsake. Lin Min Chen this year with TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) was nominated for her first Best Supporting Actress and appeared in back revealing low cut dress. As soon as she arrived she joked with the reporters, "Am I sincere enough? This is the first time I am dressed like this, I really am not used to it. I am very scared, low cut and see through, it's like 360 degree transparent! My little brother came with me, and kept reminding me not to hunch, to stand out my chest, suck in my gut and stand straight." She revealed that at the fitting when she took photos she looked like a princess. She did not know whether it would become transparent under the sun, but it was too late to change into another one. Before hand she once said that she and Harriet Yeung Sze Man were in competition to see who would be Best Dressed. Lin Min Chen said that she has not seen her and looked forward to running to Shrimp Head. Just as sexy was Louise Wong Dan Nei, who as this year's Hong Kong Film Award promotional ambassador wore a midriff showing dress that seemed to be strung together beads. She said, "This dress was high class tailored, shipped from England for me to wear. Because tonight is the important day of the Hong Kong Film Awards, I dressed up for the occasion. Before hand I didn't dare to eat too much, as I am afraid it would affect how I dress. This dress is pretty heavy, weighing 10 or 20 pounds. (Are you afraid it is too heavy that it would fall down?) No, because it is hung around the neck. This dress is the limits of sexiness for me, but I have taken all the precaution. I am not worried about the wardrobe malfunction, and I am not worried that going to the bathroom would be inconvenient. I can just pull and go." Larine Tang Yueping was the red carpet host yesterday, she said that because she got a lot thinner she was able to challenge the sexy evening wear. Not seen in public in awhile, Isabella Leong Lok Si would present the Best Supporting Actress. She pointed out that she just finished her film with Nick Cheung Ka Fai, BURSTING POINT (BAU LIT DIM) and thought he was great, very crazy. "Many people thought I wouldn't make movies again, which is wrong. I want to make movies, and hope to play different character." When asked she would like to work with the most? She said, "Lau Ching Wan. (While you are working on the movie who has been taking care of the children?) Mommy would so even going on location productions wouldn't be a problem, and my older son would be 14 in two months. (He can be like you and get into the business?) Jinx! They haven't said that they wanted to get into the business, and they have no performance talent. Instead they have a knack for art and sports. They know I am an actor, they have seen my past work but they didn't feeling anything. (Are you dating now?) No! Being single is so comfortable." Andy Lau Tak Wa held hands with Director Ann Hui On Wa as they walked the red carpet. They said that they would present Best Actress and Best New Director awards respectively. Would they work together on another film? Wa Jai said, "That would depend on the director." Hui On Wa replied, "There is one movie we can make, a documentary about Wa Jai. I hope to be able to work with him again while I am still alive." Wa Jai agreed. "OK, I haven't had a romance in such a long time. I can make a drama first." Speaking of Oscars Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) would welcome another Hong Kong film again, Hui On Wa and Wa Jai both wanted to work her. Wa Jai joked, "I will leave the action to Yeung Chi King, I can just have a romance with her." They praised the new location for its fresh feel and were even able to see the magic light of the Victoria Harbor sunset; Wa Jai even pointed out that after attending the Awards for years, this year felt very special. He was happy to see many friends being nominated, both newcomer and veterans. It felt like the film industry was in full bloom. Aside from the fashion, no one would expect the mishaps on the red carpet. The Awards arranged for the stars to pass through the building stairway to enter the venue, but Keung To while climbing the stairs only had his eyes on Andy Lau Tak Wa and Ann Hui On Wa and tripped; with a long train on her dress, Sammi Cheng Sau Man even with help from others still appeared unsteady; Sammo Hung Kam Bo and Joyce Godenzi (Go Lai Hung) avoided the stairs and skipped the red carpet all together. * (2023/04/16) Rising film stars Edan Lui Cheuk On, Jer Lau Ying Ting, Lin Minchen and others tonight would vie for the Hong Kong Film Awards. Edan before the race still had to work on his new film. When the People's Choice Best Actor was asked whether he was confident about winning Best New Performer, he flashed a smile of victory and was full of confidence! Instead Best Actor favorite Sean Lau Ching Wan stated in a pre race interview that life is expected, as he worried about not having a movie to make. Popular group MIRROR's member Edan has been nominated for Best New Performer with two films at the 41st Hong Kong Film Awards, which would take place tonight at the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Center. Before the race he was naturally nervous, but the rising film star yesterday was still working on the Emperor Motion Picture DOH YUET JEH (MOON THIEVES) at a Sham Shui Po watch store and attracted almost 100 fans to look on. Around 3PM, he and group mate Keung To stepped out of the watch store and watched the playback in a tent on the street. Reporters took the opportunity to ask whether he was confident about winning an award? Just won the Hong Kong Movies Awards Best Actor he appeared to be full of confidence. Although he did not answer, he flashed a smile of victory! Keung To was not nominated for an acting award but with the MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR)'s theme song RAIN OR SHINE he was nominated for Best Original Film Song. Of course he was relaxed than Edan. After watching the playback he almost knocked over a granny who was passing by on the way back to the watch store. He avoided her with agility and protected granny's safety. Because his movement was somewhat like dancing, it was rather funny. On the eve of Hong Kong Film Awards, various nominees were interviewed by the event. Edan said that in the past he mostly played comedy, thus when he got the emotional complex character of Ah Yeung in HONG KONG FAMILY (GOR SI GOR JIT) he once worried that he would not performed well and dragged the entire film down. However later he understood that as long as he did his best, everything else was beyond his control so he did not need to think too much. His group mate Jer who was also in competition for Best New Performer said that the movie gave him a world outside music. "The film was able to give me many different experience. I started to be myself, letting go of a lot of things. I no longer mind how others see me. I used to be very shy, now I would take the initiative to say hi to people and be myself." Playing the lovable character Ah Meow in TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM), Lin Minchen was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. She admitted that she did not know how long she could still be cute. "We would accept the limitation of age. Now I can play sweet nd pretty characters, which of course is a great opportunity." She joked that she used to feel embarrassed to introduce herself as an actor, but everyone's encouragement has given her a lot of encouragement. She also said that Hong Kong people's charm is their strong support for domestic films. She hoped Hong Kong films in the future would be even better. Another rising film star Angela Yuen Lai Lam would make the leap to challenge Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Sylvia Chan and others for Best Actress. She said that she absolutely was not a genius actor, and needed good teachers to teach her to act. She was already rather happy to be nominated. Two time Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan this year with the Emperor Motion Picture DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN) is again nominated for Best Actor. Despite having one film offer after another, he actually worried about not having movies to make. "After experiencing so much, a lot is uncertain and very hard to predict. No matter what the reason would be, when I am nominated I would enjoy it and happily face it. This way would be more advantageous, because no one knows how next time would be like. I might not have another chance. I am not talking about the nomination, but another chance to make a movie!" Fellow Best Actor as well as Best Supporting Actor nominee Louis Cheung Kai Chung spoke with Che Suk Mui on the radio. He felt extremely lucky to receive two nominations, but did not have much confidence in winning. "I only treat them normally, honestly, this type of winning and losing process I have experienced countless times in music and at the television station. The most important actually is only the moment the result is announced." * (2023/04/16) Fresh out of oven Oscars Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) would be a guest presenter at today's 41st Hong Kong Film Awards. Started her career in Hong Kong, she has been friends with many artists. Lately she has been busy with catching up with everyone, attending one celebration dinner after another. One was even star studded with guests like Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Yen Chi Tan, George Lam Chi Cheung and Sally Yeh, Peter Chan Ho Sun, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Yuen Woo Ping, John Shum Kin Fun, Johnnie To Kei Fung, Chow Yun Fat, Ann Hui On Wa, even Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting, who in recently months has been swept up in the documentary storm and has been nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Director. The group photo was taken by "selfie expert" Chow Yun Fat. Away from the public eye for while, he made a rare appearance without a cap, showed off his head of super short white hair and looked very cool. Yeung Chi King even brought the Oscar to share the joy with her friends. Sandra Ng Kwan Yu pleaded with Yeung Chi King for me to touch the Oscar. Kwan Yu said that it was very heavy and joked, "Can I take it home for the night? This is for Feng Shui." Kwan Yu said that Yeung Chi King treated them to dinner to celebrate her Best Actress Oscar. Everyone was proud of her. Yeung Chi King sincerely thanked everyone there. * (2023/04/16) Song God Sam Hui Koon Kit two nights ago held the final show of Hong Kong Coliseum concert series, and performed songs like TSIM SHA TSUI SUSIE with guest Aaron Kwok Fu Sing to bring the event to its climax. He also praised Sing Sing as the dance king in his heart. Sing Sing revealed that he offered to be the guest and said that he grew up listening to Sam's song. Without Sam this Hong Kong popular music forefather, he would not have the opportunity to be on the stage. "I considered myself experienced on the stage, but seeing Sam on this stage, my knees are weak!" Sam presented a giant banner embroidered with the words "Dance King Kwok Fu Sing" to Sing Sing, while Sing Sing returned the favor with calligraphy of the words "Song God" and said, "I haven't performed a concert over the past 3 years, during which I went to study calligraphy. Today I wrote this calligraphy for Sam Gor." Sing Sing then performed MAHJONG HERO CHRONICLE. As the concert neared its end, Sam was reluctant to part and tried to please the fans' requests during the dedication segment. In the end he performed two "encore" and sang with the whole crowd until early morning. * (2023/04/15) The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards would take place on April 16th (Sunday) at the Cultural Center. The Best Actor competition has been fierce, THE SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG)'s two film industry's new blood Mak Pui Tung and Yeung Wai Lun battle THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET (BAK YUN CHING CHUN)'s Anthony Wong Chau Sun, DETECTIVE VS. SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN)'s Sean Lau Ching Wan and THE NARROW ROAD (JAK LO MEI CHUN)'s Louis Cheung Kai Chung; Wong Chau Sun picks Mak Pui Tung and Yeung Wai Lun, feeling if he would win it would be for his performance no leaving a trace. As for the battle of Best Actress, LOST LOVE (LAU SHUI LOK FA)'s Sammi Cheng Sau Man who has been disappointed seven time before by Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress race would face A LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT (DUN FOR LAN SHAN)'s Sylvia Chang and MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR)'s Teresa Mo Shun Kwan. Cheng Sau Man again ran into her nemesis Sylvia Chang, both would treat the race normally and both said that she would be happy for the other if the other one would win; Mo Shun Kwan picked herself to win the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress again. Wong Chau Sun pointed out that Mak Pui Tung and Yeung Wai Lun both started on the stage. Their acting is already at a certain quality and gave viewers a sense of freshness in THE SPARRING PARTNER. In addition the film had a great response, but Lau Ching Wan's acting exceeded the class and had a great chance to win as well. Chau Sun said, "If I would win, I would only win on the performance not leaving a trace. Like when I won at the Golden Horse Awards, the reason was the same. They saw my performance was unpolished; but each place's judging standards are different, so even without an award I would be fine." Ah Lun said about Chau Sun picking him as the Best Actor favorite, "Brother Chau Sun is just being courteous! I instead feel his performance in THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET is great. My performance in THE SPARRING PARTNER isn't considered anything special. It still has a lot of flaws. Some scenes can be done even better. I wasn't in full control and could have been even more reserved." Nominated for Best Actor already in his first feature film, Ah Lun felt wonderful but thought that his chances were not great. "The competition is truly too strong. Ching Wan and Chau Sun are already Best Actor class. I would be happy if either good brother Ah Chung or Ah Tung won. If Ah Tung would win, the whole thing would be very explosive. His film experience is even less than mine. If he wins I would certain scream like mad in the audience." Ah Tung felt that he was an also-ran because the competition would be elders. "Earlier when we worked on ZERO TO HERO (MAMA DIK SUN KEI SIU JI), Ah Chung taught me a lot. Ah Lun was the one who recommended me for THE SPARRING PARTNER. All 4 other nominees' performance is very sharp. If I have to pick, I would choose Ching Wan. He is very charming on and off screen. I feel my court scene gets the most points. Nominated for Best Actor with my firs leading role, it is already a miracle." Ah Chung earlier with THE NARROW ROAD won the Film Critic Society Best Actor. He did not dare to think about winning the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor. "I would let what I can't control to fate, it would be like going to party." He at the same time was nominated for Best Supporting Actor with TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM). He would walk the red carpet with his wife Kay Tse On Kay, who would witness the important moment. As for Best Actress, the never giving up Cheng Sau Man in LOST LOVE played the foster family mother Auntie Tin Mei completely without her luster. Her performance opposite 7 foster children was simple and true, which was quite a pleasant surprise. She has won Best Actress at the Film Critic Society Award and the Film Directors' Guild Awards. Although many picked her to win the triple crown, but Sammi did not dare to fantasize and said that she was already very pleased with two awards. Mo Shun Kwan with MAMA'S AFFAIR was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress again. She joked that she picked herself to win, but the result would be hard to predict. "Last time when I was my first Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress with TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY (WONG GUM FA) it ws already quite a surprise. If I win this time, of course it would be for my acting. I had 3 scenes that could show my abilities, the scene with me and Jer (Lau Ying Ting), my kitchen talk and my dinner table scene with the two sons. However this game isn't played with confidence, it would only make you nervous from the moment of nomination to the moment of announcement. So I should take a participation approach. I am a part of the film industry, I am already very happy to participate. This year has been especially happy, because the director I have worked with in the past few years Ho Cheuk Tin and my 'children' in the movies Lui Cheuk On (Edan), Jer, Ah Lun and (Jennifer) Yu Heung Ying are all nominated." Louisa So Yuk Wa with THE SPARRING PARTNER was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress for the first time. She did not feel it was a late arriving Spring, because in the past she rarely made movies. She felt like she got it in one shot. This time she ran into a good team and she felt very lucky. So Yuk Wa said, "Very rarely would scripts write about a veteran female big time lawyer, not to mention a felony case -- the best in all Hong Kong. It is a very rare role. In addition every aspect was able to coordinate in order to achieve this effect. Whether I would win or not, winning would require the coordination of many conditions. I am already crazy from the joy of the nomination! I make movies not to win awards, the most important is to play my role well, working hard with a group of people to make a good movie. Then it would be the most meaningful." (The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards Pre Race Prediction) * (2023/04/15) Stephen Chow Sing Chi lately has been thirsting for talent, even becoming a star scout! Earlier when he went bicycling with friends, he asked a woman on the street for direction. Later he regretted not "getting her license". Because he has been continuously looking for people to audition to explore the Web3.0 new direction, he thought the kind person that day was decent so he posted a "missing person" story on social media. Unfortunately so far nothing came of it! Chow Sing Chi over the years has discovered many new comers to join the business. Most came from audition or overseas recruitment. In recent years he has been actively exploring new online development and recruiting on his social media platform. The level of urgency has already reached "critical". Earlier he was bicycling with friends in Sheung Shui, during which he asked a woman in a light color short sleeve tee shirt for direction. She answered and left. Chow Sing Chi later realized that she would be suitable for the audition, and thus became "talent scout" and personally posted a "missing person" story on social media. He clearly described what happened that day. Even their conversation was written in detail. He mentioned that he asked her, "How do I got to Fan Lan" The woman answered, "Go straight then turn left, the direction of many parallel import customers is it." He hoped that "she" would see the post and send him a direct message, but so far he has not seen anyone following up on his social media story. Despite that, Chow Sing Chi's level of activity has not been affected. Lately he has been busy operating his social media platform that had a lot of Chinese, Taiwan and Hong Kong artist following. The social media already had over 1 million followers. Earlier he personally answered questions on stories and even responded to personal questions on a rare occasion. Earlier he was in a relationship with Jacqueline Law Wai Guen. They broke up later. She passed away from illness in 2012. When asked whether he misses her, Chow Sing Chi stated, "Yes!" Someone else asked about his partner of many years, the late artist Ng Man Tat. What would Chow Sing Chi like to say to him the most? He said, "I love you. I regret having never said it in person." Some took the opportunity to ask interesting questions. When asked Lin Chiling or Jolin Tsai, he said, "Why not both!" Some also asked, "After bathing would you run around naked bottomless?" He responded, "Before and after bathing I would be naked all over and run round, but I have never just been bottomless naked. After your inspiration I would go and give it a try." Some asked whether he liked "Northern girls" or "locals", which brought back the collective memory of FROM CHINA WITH LOVE (GOK CHAN LING LING CHAT) for many online. Chow Sing Chi also coordinated and answered, "Depends on the price!" In addition, Chow Sing Chi and Maggie Cheung Man Yuk's "Eiffel Tower Over and Over Again" kiss from the film ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL (GA YAU HEI SI) remained classic. Some asked an adult question, "Like you said, learning never ends. Have you invented any new trick lately? The Eiffel Tower Over and Over Again can no longer get girls!" Chow Sing Chi joked, "Actually Eiffel Tower has never gotten any girl. I am one of the victims too. Now I am desperately looking for the details of how 'beggars boil rice'." Earlier So Hoi Lam went to make an adult video in Japan as "Erena" and became the "first from Hong Kong". Some asked Chow Sing Chi if he has seen her adult video. He immediately quoted her from the shoot, "I can't take it!" He said, "Hong Kong people have always been known for toughing it out, the words 'can't take it' violate the spirit of Hong Kong!" His response actually led to So Hoi Lam to reply. "Thank you to the idol who I have always felt was beyond reach, Chow Sing Chi, for watching my work. He is very friendly, but my 'can't take it' means something more: can't take it, if you keep going it's like......" The answer seemed rather "not safe for work". * (2023/04/15) Currently in a great mood, MIRROR's popularity king Keung To two nights ago returned to Hong Kong. Yesterday he joined group mates Anson Lo Hon Ting and Edan Lui Cheuk On on the set of the Emperor Motion Picture DOH YUET JEH (MOON THIEVES). Always spoiling his fans, Anson Lo slowed down to have exchanges with fans. Edan went on patrol as "Best Actor On" for the first time but could not hide his embarrassment. Keung To two nights ago returned from Singapore to Hong Kong and attracted many "Keung Candies" to welcome him at the airport. He tied his hair as he stepped out of the special pathway. Later he removed it before getting close to fans to accept gifts, then left in a vehicle. Later he wrote on social media. "I had a bet with Mama, she said would you dare to tie up your hair when you walk out? I won." After a night of rest, yesterday he met up with group mates Edan and Anson Lo at a watch store in Sham Shui Po to shoot DOH YUET JEH. Also on hand were Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor nominee Louis Cheung Kai Chi and actor Michael Ning (Bak Ji). Fans caught wind and came in droves, waiting in an orderly fashion outside the store. When the 3 MIRROR members appeared, they cheered and took photos like mad. In the company of manager Sister Fa, Anson Lo caused a stir when he left the vehicle. The crew dragged him into a store. He slowed down his pace for fans to take photos, smiling and waving as he walked. In a checkered shirt Keung To also appeared in decent shape. He stepped out of the store and had a serious discussion with the crew. Just winning his first Best Actor at the Hong Kong Movies Awards, Edan received the congratulations from many fans and people as they chanted, "Best Actor!", "Best Actor On!" He immediately got embarrassed and smiled in response. In addition, the film's director Steve Yuen Kim Fai directed a music video was removed due to suspicion of plagiarism. Yesterday he responded in writing as he denied plagiarizing any work. "After the storm spread people around me reminded that actually two years ago they shared 3 promotional photos from MAYBE TOMORROW with me. I would examine whether thus my creation since has been affected." He also apologized to the creative team of MAYBE TOMORROW. * (2023/04/14) Popular group MIRROR's member Edan Lui Cheuk On is getting stronger and stronger in the film industry. Yesterday he received the good news that he won the Hong Kong Movies Awards Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor to become the triple crown Best Actor and the first MIRROR member to win Best Actor! He admitted that he has been fortunate, running into good scripts and good actors soon after starting his journey, and he was very grateful. MIRROR in recent years not only developed in music, many members like Keung To, Edan Lui Cheuk On, Anson Lo Hon Ting and Jer Lau Ying Ting also have stepped foot onto the film industry and performed decently. Earlier the 6th Hong Kong Movie Awards announced its nominations. After two rounds of voting, finally the winners are announced. Stepping foot in film for the first time, Edan performed brilliantly. With the film CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HAP GA LAT) he defeated group mate Keung To, strong competition from Louis Cheung Kai Chung, good actor Mak Pui Tung and others to win Best actor. With another film HONG KONG FAMILY (GOR SI GOR JIT), he won Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor to become the first triple crown Best Actor in the "Movie Awards" history. He was also the first MIRROR member to win Best Actor. This year he has been nominated twice for the Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Performer, conceivably this award would inject a shot of confidence into him! Edan said that he has been fortunate. "At the start of my acting journey I have already run into good scripts, good roles and good elders. I am very honored." Although group mate Keung To did not win Best Actor, with his film MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR)'s theme song RAIN OR SHINE won the "Movie Awards'" newly added Best Original Film Song award. As for HONG KONG FAMILY and MAMA'S Best Actress nominee Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, she finally with HONG defeated Louisa So Yuk Wa, Stephy Tang Lai Yun and others for the honor. In the film she played a role that was like countless Hong Kong family's Mama, quietly tolerating her silent, powerless husband who was unable to express himself well and taking care of children who were distant and isolated. She brought to life the woman of the previous generation who has been extremely stubborn toward family and marriage. Last year's big hit movie THE SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG) was the big winner with 4 awards, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress and Best New Director. "Best Director" was Ho Cheuk Tin and "Best Supporting Actress" was Harriet Yeung Sze Man. This would be Yeung Sze Man's first silver screen performance award after winning the 2007 Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies' Hong Kong Drama Award Best Actress (Comedy). In addition, Keung To earlier flew to Singapore to attend a fashion label event and brought his mother and aunt along. He took the time to rest, visited "Garden By the Bay" and took many beautiful photos. At night he went swimming with his mother at the hotel, enjoyed family time, and took many photos with mother. He joked, "Sons still don't take photos well, everyone from now on please have daughters." Later he took a photo with Mother and said, "Other people hold their girlfriends' hands, I hold Mama's." Sam said that he and the late Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing had a duet I HAVEN'T BEEN AFRAID, citing that Gei Jai's singing and voice resembled Cheung Kwok Wing's and thus sang it with him. Gei Jai praised Sam for the Song God who represents the Hong Kong people and asked the entire crowd to scream, "Song God, Hui Koon Kit!" He also said that Sam was number one in Cantonese songs. "Completely because of Sam Gor; you were the first singer to write music, lyrics for and sing Cantonese songs, so Hong Kong music had Cantonese songs. Without you there would be no us!" He even showed off the collage that Sam personally made and praised him for his thoughtfulness. "The words, the design and the star decorations all came from Sam Gor's hands personally. He is very thoughtful, to all the friends and younger generation." * (2023/04/14) The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards would take place on Sunday (April 16th) at the Cultural Center in Tsim Sha Tsui. Yesterday (the 13th) a worship ceremony was held. President Derek Yee Tung Sing (Siu Bo) attended despite an injury; also attending were two vice presidents John Chong Ching and Manfred Wong (Man Jun), board of directors members Leung Lee Siu Ha, Chin Kar Lok, Candy Yu On On, Chow Kwok Chung, Mak Chun Hung, Wai Kai Leung and ViuTV's general manager Chung Kwong Tak. The event also announced that 19 awards would be presented that evening, with Wu Fung receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award. Siu Bo made his first response to Hong Kong Film Awards' inability to remove the film TO MY NINETEEN YEAR OLD SELF (CUP SUP GAU SHUI DIK NGOR)'s nominations. If the voters would give the award to it the even would present it as usual. After three years of the pandemic, this year the Hong Kong Film Awards would return to the Cultural Center. Siu Bo said that the event would deliberately move the red carpet to outside the promenade's great stairway, as the beautiful Victoria Harbor scenery would be the backdrop; new generation singers Terence Lam Ka Him and Serrini would perform to open the show, attract the new generation of youth to pay even more attention to Hong Kong films, and trigger the general public's desire to go to the movies. The event at the same time announced the guest performers would be Kaho Hung, ANSONBEAN, Winka@COLLAR, Keung To, Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, and other Best Original Film Song performers would also perform the nominated theme songs. Wu Fung would receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. Two veteran film critics Law Kar and Sek Kei would receive the Professional Spirit Award for their contributions to Hong Kong film in the past half a century and their professionalism that should be the model for future generations. Speaking of Ying Wa Girls' School already declared that the controversial film TO MY NINETEEN-YEAR-OLD SELF would withdraw from the Best Film category, the Hong Kong Film Awards admitted that it had no right to strip the nomination. Siu Bo explained, "the event has always been cautiously handling this matter, and consulted legal opinions. Finally the board of directors unanimously agreed that it had no right to strip the film of the nomination, not only because a film could only be completed with many people and the effort of those involved could not be erased; but also if the precedence was made, the future would be very dangerous and even be unfair to many people." Siu Bo continued that the awards would be presented as usual. The event would respect each voter's decision and direction, but the event would not air film footage. The fresh out of the oven Oscar Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) would appear at the event as a guest presenter. Siu Bo's left hand was bandaged. He said that earlier he accidentally smashed a glass in his hand against the side of the door, and the shrapnel cut a nerve. Luckily the left hand was injured one so it would not be too much impact. In addition, Kar Lok was said to be in an awkward position. Because this year the awards would continue to air on ViuTV, TVB immediately changed its schedule and responded with Eric Tsang Chi Wai's THE SUPER TRIO special. A Hong Kong Film Awards Board of Directors member, Kar Lok was also one of the Super Trio. Thus he was in a fight against himself. Kar Lok said, "SUPER TRIO has already been taped. It's nothing really, to each its own. Each would be different in nature. I would support both sides so it wouldn't be awkward. The entertainment circle now is great, I can go wherever I want. It wouldn't be the first time anyway. Earlier Tsang Chi Wai and I have appeared on ATV too." When jokingly asked which one would have a better rating? He started somewhat awkwardly and said, "Huh?" Then he used his quick wits and used the catch phrase from THE SUPER TRIO, "It's a tie." The awards would set up a social media platform. Larine Tang Yueping, Chung Sue Ying and Isabel Chan Hoi Ning would form a live team that would go to every corner of the venue starting at 4PM for a 7 hour live broadcast. In a relaxing method they would show the other side of the event to the audience, like backstage live situation. Because it would be an "easy job", Tang Yueping said that she would not be nervous. In addition her two partners have ample experience. However lately she had to actively prepare for class (watch movies), so that night she would be able to ask questions for the audience. She even joked that she would wear a "helmet" in order to show the realest side. If she missed anything she hoped that everyone would forgive her. Of course she would also filter questions and serve as a "shield". * (2023/04/14) Fresh out of the oven Oscar Best Actress Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Carina Lau Ka Ling, Karen Mok Man Wai, Kathy Chow Man Kei and other celebrities last night attended a jewelry label promotional event. Yeung Chi King earlier after returning to Malaysia came to Hong Kong but showed no sign of tiredness at all. As the first Chinese actress to win the Oscar Best Actress, Yeung Chi King admitted that she felt a little strange because ultimately Asian actors have never been nominated for the award. Luckily she had a movie that was nominated so she was able to get an admission ticket. She wanted to sincerely thank the audience for its support. Always missing Hong Kong, she also stated that she definitely would make another Hong Kong film. Due to the pandemic and endless jobs, Yeung Chi King has not come to Hong Kong in many years. She admitted that she missed Hong Kong too. "Although Hong Kong and I have no blood relation, I already treat Hong Kong like my family. Since I just got back I haven't had time to see other friends." As for celebrating, she said that earlier she has been working in London and took time to celebrate on the set. She also said that working during the pandemic, she was also especially caution. With an understanding of safety and health first, the team would test every few days. If anyone unfortunately tested positive they would leave the team. As for another chance to make Hong Kong films, Yeung Chi King said definitely. Because she started making movies in Hong Kong, she still had many people she would be able to work with. After years away from Malaysia, Yeung Chi Wai after her victory took the opportunity to return home to see Mama and pay her respect to her late father. Was she still very excited from the victory? She said, "The feeling is a little strange, because the prediction was only a chance to win. Ultimately Asian or Chinese actors, whether male or female have never been nominated. Luckily this time the movie was able to be nominated, so I was able to get an admission ticket. I want to sincerely thank film viewers for their support." Yeung Chi King also remembered to thank her husband for his support. She joked that he did not know much about film but still was very nobly accompanied her to attend the award ceremony. Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha), Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Pansy Ho Chiu King and Carina Lau Ka Ling two days ago attended the event at the Hong Kong Palace Museum. 4 "Undefeated Against Age Beauties" made a rare pose for photos together, each with her own extraordinary achievements in her own field. Their confidence left many online in awe. Radiating with different charm, some online described the photo as "all the legendary woman icons". * (2023/04/13) The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards would take place Sunday (the 16th) at the Cultural Center in Tsim Sha Tsui. In the Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress nominations, Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Lin Minchen, Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Peter Chan Charm Man with the Sunny Chan Wing Sun directed TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) were all nominated. Wong Yuen Chi aside from wrestling with co-star Lin Minchen would also face FAR FAR AWAY (YUEN LO SHAN KA LA)'s Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, THE NARROW ROAD (JAK LO MEI CHUN)'s substance actress Patra Au Ka Man and THE SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG)'s Harriet Yeung Sze Man. Wong Yuen Chi and Yu Heung Ying proclaimed themselves to be dark horses. First time Supporting Actress nominee "Malaysian Goddess" Lin Minchen never thought about winning. At the war of Best Supporting Actors each nominees held his own, the 1st Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor Michael Hui Koon Man with WHERE THE WIND BLOWS (FUNG JOI HEI SI) was nominated and seen as the favorite. Jan Lamb Hoi Fung in THE SPARRING PARTNER put away his smile and his serious performance opened people's eyes; MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU GOR DAI YI GOR)'s Law Wing Cheong did not have a lot of screen time but his performance touched people's hearts. TABLE FOR SIX and THE SPARRING PARTNER were both big box office hits. Wong Yuen Chi, Lin Minchen and Shrimp Head's excellent performance has also caught attention. Yu Heung Ying in FAR FAR AWAY also won a lot of word of mouth; having won the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Supporting Actress with SUK SUK, Patra Au Ka Man's performance left no room for doubt. However her role in THE NARROW ROAD was somewhat small, who knows whether that would affect her votes. Yu Heung Ying admired Wong Yuen Chi and Shrimp Head's performance, saying that their characters had bigger emotional swings. Her character in comparison had less emotional upheaval. "I especially like Wong Yuen Chi. On one hand her performance is very funny, but during the break up scene she can be very moving. It's very rare. Lin Minchen in the film is super cute, not only guys like her. After watching even I became her fan. Au Ka Man in THE NARROW ROAD played Mama, she didn't have a lot of screen time but her scenes all touched people's hearts." Lin Minchen had no confidence to win, because the competition was too strong. "I feel the nomination is already very fantastic. I have already discussed with the image designer, I would be super sexy when attending the award ceremony. I would have to fight for the spotlight with Shrimp Head and compete for Best Dressed." Wong Yuen Chi was very happy to be nominated with good friends Lin Minchen and Shrimp Head. "When I was nominated before, I would think 'It would be the best if I win'. Now I don't think like that. I am very happy that TABLE FOR SIX got 11 nominations, like it has become a big event for the whole family." As for her pick, Wong Yuen Chi joked that it would be quite a headache so she could only choose herself. "My character seems to be nothing out of the ordinary, actually I have added delicate and trivial expression changes. That proposal scene wasn't easy to perform, I feel it's worth bonus points." As for Best Supporting Actor, stand up comedy performers Hui Koon Man and Lamb Hoi Fung in WHERE THE WIND BLOWS and THE SPARRING PARTNER respectively held back their smiles. Their serious performance opened the eyes of many. Hui Koon Man in WHERE played the Independent Commission Against Corruption special official. The 5 minute all English monologue at the end left many in awe. Actually Hui Koon Man with SECURITY UNLIMITED (MOR DUN BO BIU) won the 1st Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor. His acting has long been recognized. After 40 years, who knows whether he would get another taste of victory. Lamb Hoi Fung in THE SPARRING PARTNER played a lawyer and fully mastered the role. With some humorous performance method, he brought some lightness to the serious atmosphere. Director Law Wing Cheong in recent years have transitioned to onscreen, playing Keung To's Papa in MAMA'S AFFAIR. He did not have a lot of screen time but his performance touched the hearts of many. In the film he told Teresa Mo Shun Kwan that he felt guilty about their father and son dispute. His emotional upheaval while watching his son's concert became the tear jerking spot. TABLE FOR SIX's two brothers Cheung Kai Chung and Chan Charm Man brought tears within laughter in their performance. In addition the film made a mad HK$ 77 million, they could be the dark horses. * (2023/04/13) Gin Lee Hung Ngai released her second new song after joining Emperor, TRIVIAL MATTER OF US. She shared her own crush story, saying at school she fell for a handsome and talented class president and hand made little gifts for him. She would buy what the class president liked and secretly sent them to him anonymously, hoping that one day he would guess that she was the one who sent the gifts. Gin Lee recently went live and interacted with fans on social media. After become a delivery person for fans, two nights ago she said that she received a lot of message why only two people won. Thus she asked everyone why could they do that would be able to have more people to participate. Someone online suggested watching a movie together and got everyone's support. Gin Lee after agreeing contacted cinema department colleagues and invited fans to watch OVER MY DEAD BODY (SEI SI SEI SI SEI SUP SEI) at an Emperor Cinema. She gave away tickets at the cinema and posed for photos with fans. Over 100 fans took part. After the show OVER MY DEAD BODY's director Ho Cheuk Tin suddenly appeared. Actually a friend told him that Gin Lee was treating, so he deliberately rushed over to express his gratitude to Gin Lee and the viewers. (The 41st Hong Kong Film Awards Pre Race Prediction) * (2023/04/13) Anson Lo Hon Ting, Edan Lui Cheuk On, Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Michael Ning (Bak Ji) yesterday worked on the Steve Yuen Kim Wai directed Emperor Motion Picture DOH YUET JEH (MOON THIEVES). Around 30 MIRROR fans were waiting early on. Reportedly, yesterday the morning call clashed with the NBA play in game between the Lakers and the Timberwolves. Lakers fan Edan would not miss it as he worked while he watched. Because his team gave a mixed performance, his emotions were all over the place. On social media he posted his photos. "I am frustrated from watching." "How do you plan? Are you crazy my heart is about to explode!" Luckily his team won, Edan joked, "I didn't cry." Around 3 PM, Anson Lo under the protection of manager Sister Fa left. Always passionate about work, although he started early in the morning he was still full of energy and did not look tired at all. He even waved to MIRROR fans. When reporters asked him whether with all the work would he feel rough? He said, "OK!" Then Edan, Michael Ning (Bak Ji) and Louis Cheung Kai Chung left. Full of smile, Edan kept waving to the media and fans. Just as reporters thought everyone has completed the shoot, Anson Lo returned to continue to work. By the evening, he left with over 20 fans. Director Steve Yuen Kim Fai after finishing all the work left the building where the shoot was. As for the music video plagiarism storm, he said that he has been in communication with everyone and would explain later. He said that he would not reshoot the music video. * (2023/04/13) The 5th show of the SAM HUI IN ONE PLACE CONCERT 2023 has already come to an end two nights ago (the 11th). Despite over 12 hours of singing, dancing and playing various instruments over the 4 previous nights, Sam's energy seemed to be without end. His exciting performance on the stage made the entire audience, including Carina Lau Ka Ling, Elaine Lok Yi Ling, Anna Ueyama, Teresa Cheung Tak Lan and her husband, eagerly applauded. According to the event, although most tickets were HK$ 380, the production budget was not reduced. The stage was built like Sam's home. Viewers listened to him singing and spread positive energy. Sam also brought four of his own guitars for different performances; the band including the back up vocals had 13 people and 12 people were responsible for string music. The music alone had 25 people; responsible for Sam and the dancers' costume designs was Master Chan Wa Kwok. He designed 7 unique costumes to match the theme of the performance segment for Sam and the dancers; the choreography director was Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's official choreographer Sunny Wong. The concerts had sound, sight and art, no wonder they have become the talk of the town. * (2023/04/13) The Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards would take place on May 6th at the Hong Kong Coliseum. The event yesterday held a press conference and announced the "Broadcasting 95th anniversary Gold Songs Honorary Award" recipient would be the late music godfather Joseph Koo Ka Fai. The event has a history of honoring music pioneers who have made excellent achievements and numerous contributions to Hong Kong Chinese popular music. This year the special "Broadcasting 95th anniversary Gold Songs Honorary Award" was set up. At the press conference the broadcasting authority deputy chief (radio and programming strategy) Lee Hing Wa announced the award would be presented to the "music godfather" of a generation Koo Ka Fai for his contributions to music. Albert Au Shui Keung, Karen Tong Bo Yu, DEZ Yu Chung Yiu and Janees Wong Lok Yin at the press conference performed tributes to Brother Fai. Au Shui Keung first opened the press conference with a medley of Brother Fai's classic hits and shared the story of how Hong Kong and Brother Fai "met in their childhood", savoring many good songs that Hong Kong people grew up with. He also sang with Tong Bo Yu the Brother Fai's disciple Tsui Yat Kun written MISSING EACH OTHER IN THE RAINSTORM. Music newcomers Yu Chung Yiu and Wong Lok Yin performed WHO CAN CHANGE, PAST YEAR LOVE, HEART DEBT and MAN IN THE NET as a salute to the elder. Tong Gei at the press conference performed MAD TIDES. She expressed that she started in 1992 and regretted not having the chance to receive Brother Fai's music. DREAM was her first contact with Brother Fai's work. "During the era in which Brother Fai released his work, I was just born. My Ma really like this song DREAM, but I was able to work with (Michael) Lai Siu Ting which was already very sharp. If I was able to collect Brother Fai's work too then it would have been good." Easing out of music in recent years, Tong Gei said that since participated in the 20th award show she stopped attending music awards. Only in the past six or seven years did she start to return to music awards. Speaking of Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs being called behind the times as many hits did not qualify, she said, "I don't know, every media has its own standard. I don't know whether it is counting airplay rate or popularity level, but it is still supporting Cantonese songs." As for many more new comers, she felt, "New comers would have to take it slow. In the past we rely on record company to push us. Now newcomers have to have their own platforms to promote hard. It's hard. Last year when I released a new song, at the time I did a little promoting and I already thought it was very tough." Would she sign with a record company again? Tong Gei said no. "Freedom is hard to come back, I can choose to do what I want to do." She also said that she has paid attention to music new comers, among them she saw Gigi Yim Ming Hay and Mike Tsang Pei Tak as stars of tomorrow. Her 16 year old son also liked to go to concerts. Most recently she got her son tickets to JJ Lin's show. * (2023/04/13) The Nick Cheung Ka Fai directed and starred new film PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOT MUNG) has been in post production since its production wrapped up in February. Yesterday its first film poster officially arrived. Two leads Ka Fai and Terrance Lau Chun Him were also unveiled. The poster used a rare mud yellow color as its primary tone and gave it an unique landscape. With the broken mirror being connected by strings, it symbolized the two leads' past. The poster also had the words "Redeeming the Soul, Wounds and Scars all over". Characters would meet on the journey of fate. The poster's background music was Ka Fai's all new interpretation of Dave Wang Kit's NO REGRET IN THIS LIFE as its film promotional song. This time Ka Fai not only served in a creative and a performance post but also personally remade the song. The previous time Ka Fai sang was in 2015's KEEPER OF DARKNESS (TOH DEI KUI MOR YUI) when he remade Wang Feng's YOU ARE THE GIRL MY HEART LOVES. After 8 years Ka Fai again performed for the film and became another selling point of the film. [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Ba Ba d. NOMAD (4K RESTORED DIRECTOR'S CUT) Can : Lit For Ching Chun d. Patrick Tam Ka Ming Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing, Cecilia Yip Tung, Kent Tong Chun Yip, Pat Ha Man Jik Rating : IIB Length : 94 mins. Opening April 6 2023 [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] "Nomad" describes the sexuality and love of today's young generation. The scene of Ken Tong and Pat Ha making love on the tram arises controversy when it is showed. In contrast, the love between Leslie Cheung and Cecilia Yip is a kind of tender and pure. Cecilia falls in love with Leslie in the first sight, they sympathy each other and then sleep in a reasonable way. This kind of love is more graceful and sweet. Besides sexuality and sex, this film also talks about the infiltration of Japanese culture into Hong Kong. Leslie is westernized but old fashion inside, Cecilia is influenced by Japanese culture and ambitious. This shows the characteristics of Hong Kong's unique culture. This film reflects the youngsters' attitude towards love and sex, which is a breakthrough as it should be a taboo in Hong Kong society at its time. The relationships among the boys and girls are also profoundly described and make it as the most realistic romance movie. YOKAIPEDI d. Gordon Lam and Lokman Yeung are extraordinary as two men standing at the edge of sanity, as they fight an invisible enemy. Berlinale Special. [ BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] The sky above Hong Kong is not just heavy with clouds and rain, it also contains astral signs and dark omens in this esoteric neo-noir. In a radical and counter-intuitive move, rather than having the characters' trajectories converge towards the end, the plot instead knits their fates together from the start. Crossing paths at the scene of a heinous crime in a brothel are the serial killer perpetrator and the upstanding detective chasing him, but also a delivery boy obsessed with blood and knives and an occultist feng shui master who had predicted the victim's gory fate without being able to prevent it. The last two quickly form an unlikely pair, and this transforms the film into a surreal, hyperkinetic, expressionist buddy thriller. The horoscopes confirm that the boy will soon succumb to his bloodthirsty temptations, but to redeem past failures and save him from his fate, the fortune teller is willing to do anything. As the investigations gather pace, the pair sinks into delirium in a whirlwind of superstitions, rituals and distortions, against a backdrop of an alchemical metropolis. Director Anastasia Tsang revives this long-time tradition in her poignant directorial debut, telling the touching story of a widow who discovers secrets her late husband Bill buried within his neon lights workshop. It all begins when Ming, together with his wife, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law, finds an anonymous naked body lying at their doorstep. Fearing that the presence of a corpse will turn their unit into a "murder home" and its property value will nosedive and impoverish them, their bickering family unite to pass the buck to their neighbours by moving the corpse to other units on the same floor. Their fiendish plot ropes in a motley bunch of people, including retired elderly couple, Mr. & Mrs. CHAN; a single lady and her maid; the CHEUNG's, an irascible father and his cantankerous son; and an overzealous security guard. Last but not least, is a mysterious chain smoking woman named Sue who might hold the key to helping get the body out of the building... A dark comedy of manners and Hong Kong home-ownership woes ensues in "Over My Dead Body" as each of these vividly portrayed characters turns on each other in an effort to avoid taking responsibility for both the body and their own personal problems. To catch the kitten, Suzume and Souta follow it and travel from Kyushu to Tokyo.
