He also thanked TVB for keeping giving him opportunities and assistance over these 23 years, especially in the last ten years he had many opportunities. He had to thank three people, not for his success but for their help when he failed. Thy were "Ah Pa" Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Catherine Tsang Lai Chun and Elaine Lok Yi Ling. He said, "Because Chi Wai at my biggest failure helped me, and asked me if I still wanted to work on a series!" He also thanked his wife for her contribution to him over the past ten years. This year's Best Actress went to Elena Kong Mei Yee, who defeated Alice Chan Wai, Jeannie Chan Ying, Nina Paw Hee Ching, and Selena Li Sze Wa. She on the stage appeared emotional when she accepted the award. Mei Yee said as she cried, "I thought since I wasn't a biological daughter I wouldn't get this award. Thank you Mr. Tsang, Sister Chun, tonight my parents are here. Ten years ago when I got 'Supporting Actress' they didn't come and regretted it very much. This time they came to witness my Best Actress win." As for that night's first award presented, "Best Supporting Actor", the 40 year old Tang Chi Kin won his first television award. He got so emotional that he was teary eyed and put his hand over his chest; the "Best Supporting Actress" went to the favorite, THE BEAUTY OF WAR's villain Angel Chiang Ka Man. Chiang Ka Man said that she was very nervous before, her emotions were up and down for two days. She had no appetite and could not sleep. She also said that she never thought that when she accepted the award she did not cry, because this time's theme was opportunity would be saved for dream chasers. She has chased her dream for 16 years, even when her family objected she still persisted. When asked whether the next stop would be Best Actress, she admitted that she hoped to be the female lead. Even in a limited series she would like to give it a try; however now she would like the most to have a good sleep and eat a lot of unhealthy fried food, and she would treat the cast and the crew to dinner. "Leaping Improvement Male Artist" went to a surprise winner Ricco Ng Wai Yuen, "Leaping Improvement Female Artist" went to Rosita Kwok Pak Yin who has been in the business for over two short years and rising in popularity in recent years. Ng Wai Ho said that he never expected to win. It was like a dream and he did not know how he should feel, but most importantly he wanted to thank his family. Because his parents were traditional Asians, they felt that children should perform to be OK. Now the award would be a sign of performance. Kwok Pak Yin also pointed out that when she won her mind was blank and deeply felt sorry, she missed many people she wanted to thank. Because everyone gave her the opportunity she got to improve. When asked whether she would sing to celebrate, she joked that she was afraid of "shattering" the Television City. She would wait for a good song first. However because she always relied on her parents driving her to and from work, now she would like the most to learn to drive and make soup to repay them. The Most Popular Female Television Character and Male Character went to Amy Fan Yik Man and Kalok Chow. The Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor Fung Ho Yeung was invited to present an award. He said that it felt wonderful because he rarely had the chance to attend such a large scale event. The last one he attended was the Hong Kong Film Awards as a nominee. If memory served it was also his first return to Television City since quitting the TVB training class. Because he was rumored to have quit the class due to Ben Yuen Wai Ho as an instructor, would running into him be awkward? He said that because he was in a hurry he did not have the chance to communicate with him, he only regretted not to have the chance to have an exchange with him and explained the reason of why he quit the class. He said that on the first day he mainly met the headmaster, and after the Hong Kong Film Award he had other jobs. He never rested and kept having to time off. By the fourth day the company told him not to go to class anymore. He continued that he regretted not being able to go to class with other students. The Emperor Group chair Dr. Albert Yeung Sau Sing led a group of actors including Ray Lui Leung Wai, Alex Fong Chung Shun, Andy Tien (On Chi Kit), Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Chin Kar Lok, Chan Kwok Bong, German Cheung Man Kit, Macy Ma Sihui and others to the production start worship ceremony. Lui Leung Wai and Fong Chung Shun worked together again after 20 years, both remained in very good shape. Fong Chung Shun even praised thee 66 year old Lui Leung Wai for being well maintained, even he was jealous. Lui Leung Wai and Fong Chung Shun would work together again after 20 years and they exchanged compliments. Fong Chung Shun praised Lui Leung Wai for still being handsome, and so well maintained that he was jealous. Lui Leung Wai praised Fong Chung Shun for still being cool and said that they each held their own. In the film Fong Chung Shun played a the Emergency Unit captain and opposed Lui Leung Wai. They revealed that the film would have car crashes, explosions, gun fights and a series of action scenes. Earlier they have already begun work. Speaking of memorable scenes, Fong Chung Shun pointed out that earlier they shot overnight at an old shopping center. "Everyone's hearts were pounding. Because of live sound recording the ventilation system had to be turned off. Everyone was afraid of catching COVID. Luckily in the 3 days that followed everyone was fine." The film would shoot on location in Hong Kong. Lui Leung Wai was the happiest that everyday after work he would be able to go home and rest, spend Christmas and the New Year holidays with his family. He said that the sense of happiness was even stronger. They revealed that the shoot would close on the Lunar New Year's Eve, then four days of Lunar New Year holidays and resume on the Lunar 5th. Speaking of blocking off the road for production, they both felt that it could add to the realism. Because the road block could only take place one day a week, the production time would be dragged longer. Fong Chung Shun pointed out that the difficulty would be during the shoot elements like car sounds and pedestrians taking photos would affect the progress. The Mainland and Hong Kong yesterday opened up the border without any quarantine requirement, but they for now would not go to the Mainland. Fong Chung Shun said that after the movie he would visit friends in Shanghai. Lui Leung Wai said that he would head north in about three months. On Chi Kit worked on a Hong Kong film again after three or four years. He would play a gun firing robber and have a lot of action scenes. He said, "Being a robber can shoot a gun and rob, normally you can't do that. It's a lot of fun. Due to the lack of work during the pandemic, I have been learning to use a gun in the U.S., which could be used in the shoot this time." On Chi Kit also revealed that earlier during Christmas he returned to Los Angeles to spend the holidays with his wife and children. Chan Ka Lok joked that he knew he would have to fight On Chi Kit, he has suspected whether he would be enough to fight him. Before the shoot began he had special boxing training in preparation, thus the resulting action would be very smooth. He and Cheung Kai Chung would also be opponents. He would have to rely on the action director to make him look even better at fighting. He also said that on the set he saw how cool On Chi Kit looked with a gun, which he too wanted to learn. Lately because of being busy with the movie, his fiance Shiga Lin has been helping him with the care of his dog and cooking. Speaking of their wedding date, Chan Ka Lok revealed that he has already asked a master to pick a good day. They would make the announcement later. He also said, "It would be in the first half of the year, soon after the Lunar New Year." As the big date approached, Ka Lok revealed that he was very nervous, actually the event would have a lot of matters to handle. Luckily his fiance had a lot of ideas and gave a lot of suggestions. He also thanked his married friends like Cheung Kai Chung and Kaki Sham for sharing their secrets of getting along. As the man I am pretty useless, just follow the 3:1 ratio in providing suggestions to satisfy the fiance's sense of ceremony. Chan Ka Lok also admitted that he longed to be a Papa, hoping to have a child after marriage as soon as possible. If he would be able to, have eight to ten children. Thus he would work very hard at making money. On Chi Kit also said that his wife wanted more children as well. * (2023/01/08) The new film MY FIRST OF MAY (MO MING JI) yesterday held a production start ceremony. Producer Angus Chan Lo Chiu, Siu Mei, director and screen writer James Hung Ling Jing, actors Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Nina Paw Hee Ching, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Natalie Hsu (Hui Yun Yi), Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and Kenji Fan Lun Chi participated in the worship and roast pig cutting ceremony. Kwok Fu Sing said that he has always supported Hong Kong film and new directors, thus this time he did not think about the issue of salary either. Kwok Fu Sing appeared in an athletic look for the shoot. He revealed that in the film he would play a squash athlete. Since he had a tennis background, squash was very easy to pick up. The coach also praised his form. Yesterday Sing Sing's facial haired look carried a weary flavor. He said that when he read the script he was already very moved, even the words the director wrote were able to move him. He pointed out that the film would have a lot of emotional performance. Would he have a lot of crying scenes? Sing Sing said, "Would an emotional scene be required between character? Sometimes tears shed in the heart would be even more touching." He also pointed out that in the film he would play how an irresponsible Papa raised his daughter. A father of two girls in real life, would Sing Sing's performance be more convincing? Sing Sing responded, "As the real Papa, I of course don't hope to have something like this story happen. In addition now I am a very responsible Papa. So when I studied the script, I had to think for a very long time about how to design this character." With a lot of potential in the film, he has been said to have a great chance at winning another Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. Sing Sing said that on the set he has always been 100% in character and would do his part fully. "Whether I would win an award or not it is not up to me, I have been acting for years until I won an award but my state of mind has always been like this. Acting gives me the greatest joy, enables me to play different lives, makes my life in the world even richer. I would be 100% focused so I can answer to myself and my conscience." This time Sing Sing's main co-star would be Hui Yun Yi, who would play his daughter, and Paw Hee Ching. He pointed out that earlier I watched Hui Yun Yi's performance in a musical film and felt that such a new generation of actors is needed to take the baton. In the film she would need to perform with a lot of body language. He believed that she would perform with a lot of effort. Having played mother and son with Sister Paw, Sing Sing pointed out that last time in I'M LIVIN' IT (MAK LO YUN) he did not have a chance to be in the same scene. This time they would have many scenes together, with this "mother" they would endlessly "argue" with both sadness and joy within. Sing Sing even mentioned that he has always supported new directors. This time he gave special support to new director Hung Ling Jing. "The Hong Kong film industry needs even more talent, from which viewers would be benefit in the end. In the past ten years I have spent more time on film, aside from commercial films I also chose different subjects. Characters about human nature and real life are also a lot of fun." Would he charge a little less salary this time again? Sing Sing said, "Not a little less, it's I don't think about it at all. I know about the difficulties of film production, I am also a filmmaker who likes film. I won't think about salary. As long as they are comfortable I am fine. I do it purely for support. This time also has such good actors like Cheng Tan Shui and Tam Yiu Man, I truly got sentimental every time I read the script. I hope to be able to contribute a little effort to Hong Kong film!" Leung Wing Kei in the film would work with Kwok Fu Sing for the first time and play a couple, but she joked that this couple would not have any sweet relationship. Instead their relationship would be very heavy. Gigi also pointed out that in the film she would play an unfit Mama who left home. Because she felt only a fragile person would be able to do something so vicious like abandoning her daughter, but she believed that the audience would sympathize with her experience in the film. She also said that she and Sing Sing have had discussions, this performance in the roles of parents would be the opposite of their own instinct. "I still haven't shot those scenes yet. Earlier at home I wouldn't be able to peacefully think about abandoning the daughter in the film until I went to sleep, it is very different from my family life. The contrast in instinct is enormous. Because as soon as I see children the mother in me would act up, it would be very hard to leave behind. This time when I got the script, I already felt that it would be the hardest character I would play. Even if my role wouldn't be much, mainly only three or four scenes with Kwok Fu Sing; they still would be very challenging." Gigi actually also would need to prepare for her concert rehearsals next month, she still did not feel like she was having a hard time despite working on two projects simultaneously. Paw Hee Ching just returned from visiting her grandchildren in England, but earlier she fell ill while in England. She kept testing thinking that she caught COVID, but actually she caught the flu. "Now I have healed, but my voice is still a little hoarse. Everyone shouldn't underestimate the flu, actually it's even stronger than COVID. I had a fever and cough, and it took me two weeks to recover!" However Sister Paw was still happy to see her family. "We haven't seen each other in 3 years. The grandchildren grew a lot bigger, at first when we met again they were little shy. Earlier they held on to me tight. This time there was both joy and sorrow." Sister Paw already worked on several scenes with Sing Sing on MY FIRST OF MAY, earlier when they shot their argument scene she screamed herself hoarse. "I am very happy to be on the same page as Sing Sing, in previous films we didn't have too many scenes together. This time we shot two days and the feeling has been great." In addition, speaking of Andrew Lam Man Chung saying that TVB has not notified him to attend the TVB Awards, Sister Paw joked that they probably have contacted him. However she would have to work so she would not have time to attend. "The game to us seniors is treated normally, I hope young people would win." Was she conceding her award? Sister Paw said, "No, I am guaranteed to lose! I really can't go!" Perhaps she would be the exception and win Best Actress? She smiled and said, "Then that really would be quite an exception, I actually pick (Elena) Kong Mei Yee and (Alice) Chan Wai. More or less I am a little biased, but they really performed very well. I hope it would be one of them!" Ann Bridgewater (Pak On Nei)'s daughter Natalie Hsu in the film would play Kwok Fu Sing's daughter. She said that the first time she met "Papa" was not deliberate. We worked in two different levels of the studio, the art director Man Lim Chung introduced her to this "Papa". Earlier at the table read, she felt Kwok Fu Sing like her was someone who could not sit still. In make up Sing Sing would also chat with her and show her his daughter's dance videos. Speaking of performing in a wheel chair this time and having a lot of body language performance, Hui Yun Yi admitted that this was a huge challenge and she needed to practice and get familiar with it. Because normally she was someone who likes to move, but during the performance she could not move too much. Thus earlier she went to performing art classes and would try to perform the role well. Would she have many crying scenes in the film? She said that she would not have too many crying scenes, but because she had to perform in a wheel chair in a narrow space she believed that her body and the physical location would help with her performance. Has Mommy given her any advice? She said that she has. Because Mommy was not in Hong Kong and was in Malaysia, before she left she would put notes on her script like "good luck" and "sleep well" to cheer her on. She realized that her Chinese pronunciations were not accurate, so Mommy would record them for her to correct. She would also have to work on Nick Cheung Ka Fai's movie. Hui Yun Yi said that she would only have a few days left on Ka Fai's new film, so she would not need to rush between two sets. As for Mommy she would return to Hong Kong before the Lunar New Year to spend it with her. Tam Yiu Man in MY FIRST OF MAY would play a squash champion athlete and had to compete with Sing Sing. He said that he played badminton, so during practice he picked it up very quickly. However earlier when he worked on a chase scene on another film he pulled his tendon. Because at the time he did not catch it, he still has not seen a doctor. He joked, "Let's see after this match, what other oddball cases would happen so I can get the doctor to checked them all out at once." His 16 year old son would have to choose a school soon, so now he needed to provide mental assistance and see if he would rather stay in Hong Kong and study abroad. He admitted that his son was in the rebellious age, as a father he would need to pay special attention and try to comfort and not argue with his son. Earlier Sing Sing gave him calligraphy of "friend" and "work hard" to him, which he in turn gave to his son. * (2023/01/08) The film A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG) two days ago held a premiere and the first audience appreciation event at the Tai Koo Center to start the new year 2023 with the audience. Louise Wong Dan Nei after winning the Hong Kong Film Awards Best New Performer with the film ANITA was nominated for Best Newcomer at the 16th Asian Film Awards. Two nights ago when she and Fish Liew Chi Yu attended A GUILTY CONSCIENCE premiere, she said that she never thought that after awhile she would still be nominated. She was very happy, grateful and thankful. She also knew Korean star IU Lee Ji-eun would be among her competition. She revealed that she was her fans and she really liked her. Was she confident about winning? She said that she was already very happy with the nomination, which was a huge encouragement. She would continue to work hard. Would she celebrate the nomination? She joked, "I wouldn't let myself eat well so easily, I am used to torturing myself. Let's wait until I work even harder before having an elegant feast." Fish also with ANITA won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress. She said that she and Louise have won for half a year already but they were still too busy to celebrate. She even described herself as being "crazy busy", admitting that she had more commercial and business performances. This Lunar New Year she would only have two days off, so she would be unable to spend the holiday back home in Malaysia. As for her income increasing by a lot, she said that she did not increase her salary because of the award. She was still able to be like 'the more jobs she had the busier she got". Louise said that she too had to be busy until two days before the Lunar New Year, but she was very happy to have a few days on vacation with her daughter and husband Sheldon Lo (Law Hau Yung) in Japan. Upon returning to Hong Kong she would immediately have to work on a film. She joked, "It's OK, I am very grateful for work. My price is cheap but my work is good. I charge reasonably. I welcome advertisers, I would always be able to make time on my schedule." In addition, Law Hau Yung also attended the premiere but the couple only posed for photos with the group, before they were able to shoot a couple picture they had to attend the audience appreciation show. Dayo Wong Tze Wa, Bowie Lam Bo Yi, Gardner Tse Kwan Ho two nights ago attended the premiere. When asked about box office pressure, Tze Wa joked, "I am very excited, not really nervous. There is nothing that would decide my life and future, it's just a movie." Bo Yi believed that it would be able to surpass Tze Wa's previous film TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM)'s HK$ 70 million record. When asked about the target number, Bo Yi joked, "HK$ 90 million toward HK$ 100 million! I said it!" Speaking of Carol Cheng Yui Ling provided her voice to another Lunar New Year film EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL (CHIU SUN GAING HAI GIP ONG) that would put this WAR OF THE GENDERS couple on opposite sides during the Lunar New Year, Tze Wa joked, "Really? Guest starring in my movie would be good too! She as a lawyer would be rather fitting, but I wouldn't let her come over. First she would steal all my scenes, then she would want to get off work right on time. There would be psychological pressure!" How would he like to celebrate if the box office would reach the goal? Tze Wa joked that he would use another movie to celebrate, but TABLE still has not made a sequel yet? He said, "Talk is easy, but coming up with a movie really isn't easy!" * (2023/01/07) The 16th Asian Film Awards with the support of Create Hong Kong and the Film Development Fund has been scheduled to take place on March 12th at the Hong Kong Palace Museum's Hong Kong Jockeys' Club Lecture Hall. She said that among the nominations, some Asian films have been distributed to Hong Kong but she has seen none of them. Yesterday she was responsible for announcing the Best New Director and the Best Director Award nominations. Unfortunately neither had any Hong Kong director's name. As the pandemic gradually passed, the Asian Film Awards also returned to Hong Kong. Cheung Yuen Ting said that last year the Hong Kong film industry had good performance and climax. "Now several tens of millions at the box office seem very easy, previously being able to get several million you already felt like you got rich. However I am the happiest to watch the movies that new directors made are quality. I hope this year they would continue and prove Hong Kong viewers like to watch Hong Kong films. As the pandemic gradually passed, the Asian Film Awards also returned to Hong Kong. Cheung Yuen Ting said that last year Hong Kong film had a good performance and a climax. "Now several tens of millions at the box office seems to be very easy to get, before after getting several million you already felt like you were rich. However I am the happiest to see that new director made quality films. I hope this year they would be able to continue and prove that Hong Kong viewers like to watch Hong Kong films. Before my friends all pretended to be high brow and said that they would not watch Hong Kong films, but now seemingly everyone are supporting them, would cherish this place of Hong Kong, cherish the valuable people and the cultural heritage." She too hoped that the film market would continue to thrive, then she would be able to raise even more money for productions. Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting also has a new project. She revealed that she was planning a Qing Dynasty background SUP GOR HOK YI DIK SIU NIN (TEN YOUNG MEDICAL STUDENTS). Because it would shoot in Hong Kong, she hoped that she would be able to shoot on location at the Hong Kong University because its predecessor was a medical school. Angela Yuen Lai Lam picked Sylvia Chang to win Best Actress because last year she and Sister Chang played mother and daughter in a movie. Sister Chang is her idol and she appreciates Sister Chang's passion for art and film. In addition she also praised Karena Lam Ka Yun's outstanding acting, her portrayal of a rebellious girl in JULY RHAPSODY (NAM YUN SEI SUP) was unforgettable for her. Lin Minchen in a few days would complete all of her jobs and she would be able to spend the Lunar New Year back home in Malaysia. She said that finally she could go without quarantine. "During the pandemic I have been in quarantine 13 times, many of which were 21 days. So now the feeling is very different, going home feels very rare." This time she would spend for three weeks and she would bring a lot of red pockets for her relatives. "Giving a red pocket definitely is the most sincere. Although it is very light, people who get it are very happy!" * (2023/01/07) The Hins Cheung King Hin, Ivana Wong Yuen Chi and Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun starred Emperor Motion Picture EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL (CHIU SUN GAING HAI GIP ONG HA) will open for the Lunar New Year. Yesterday the film poster was released. Actually after years away from film, Carol Cheng Yui Ling would provide her voice to the film! She said that the first condition was the right opportunity at the right time. "My contract just ended with TVB, so I wanted to try any and all jobs. Being a voice actor in a movie is pretty interesting, in addition this would be a Lunar New Year film. It's pretty fun!" Would she further appear on the big screen? She said, "There is plenty of time for that! With the suitable good character I of course would gladly perform!" In addition, the 5 shows of Cheung King Hin's REVISIT concerts that was halted due to his positive COVID test yesterday announced make up shows from June 13th to 17th. Viewers would be able to attend with their original tickets. He thanked everyone for their love. "The postponement to June is because of many factors, the venue and everything have to be able to coordinate. I hope to see everything through music then!" * (2023/01/06) Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun, Kaho Hung, Angus Yeung Tin Yue became friends after working on a Lunar New Year film together. Although they came from different companies, as soon as they got together they "blasted" lead actor Hins Cheung King Hin (Lord Hin). Jeffrey Ngai was the most daring one, he actually forced the nickname "Brother Fat Sing" on his elder. Yeung Tin Yue felt that Lord Hin resembled the animated character "Doraemon". The Hins Cheung King Hin and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi starred film EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL (CHIU SUN GAING HAI GIP ONG HA) would be released on Lunar New Year, cast members Jeffrey Ngai Chun Sun, Kaho Hung and Angus Yeung Tin Yue spoke to the press together. Jeffrey described the three of them as clicking right away. "Kaho dropped down a level to communicate with us." Kaho joked that everyone "lack nutrition". Speaking of their elder Lord Hin, they all agreed, "Zero generation gap! He always joins in and chat with us. He too isn't fully grown." They even made a "happy discovery" that all actors had something in common. Kaho said, "We are all people who are Kai (silly) enough!" Jeffrey even revealed that he gave Lord Hin a nickname. "His character is called 'Brother Yau Sing', his fans made a very fat character figure for him, so I called him 'Brother Fat Sing'. (Did he answer you?) Yes! He even said that the new guy is picking on him, I am really a little scared." Angus said that Lord Hin was like "Doraemon" because he would have tricks everywhere. He remembered the most when he was injured and needed to apply ice to stop the pain, Lord Hin took the initiative and consoled him. "He saw I was in so much pain that my hands were shaking and had no strength. In less than half a hour he found a bottle of Wood Lock Medicated Oil and analgesic for me, we were shooting in the middle of nowhere. He also found Qing Yin Wan for actors with a hoarse voice." How would he repay Lord Hin? Jeffrey stated, "Support and love him!" Kaho suggested a barbecue, with "handsome kitchen god" Angus in charge of the cuisine. The trio looked forward to working with Lord Hin again very much. Just started in music, Jeffrey even stated that he wanted a song from Lord Hin. Kaho immediately "praised" him and said, "My favorite is his 'real and fake voice mix', even I couldn't grasp it!" They also wanted to pay a Lunar New Year visit to Lord Hin, but they were afraid that they would be busy with audience appreciation. "I hope not only Lord Hin's lai see would be heavy handed, even married fans would give us big lai see!" * (2023/01/05) Tin Kai Man earlier revealed that Stephen Chow Sing Chi would return to acting at age 65. Although it would still be 5 years way, fans were already looking forward to it! Recently he interacted with fans on social media and earlier even posted as a "wishing well". "In the New Year, whatever wish you have, tell them all!" Many artists like Myolie Wu Hung Yi, MIRROR's Anson Kong, ERROR's Poki Ng and others all left messages, but none were as eye catching as TVB Best Actress Sisley Choi Si Bui! She wrote, "I wish to be your underling!" Chow Sing Chi soon responded, "You got it! How would you repay me!" With the chance to become a "Sing Girl", Si Bui naturally would be willing to do anything. She even quoted the film FLIRTING SCHOLAR (TONG BAK FU DIM CHAU HEUNG), "I would call you Big Brother! Then I wish fate would drive me to properly repay you, for real." She later said, "When I saw him agreeing, it was already the best start for me in 2023. I am very happy!" She even said that she would be willing to serve. "I hope to be able to witness the glory of his filmmaking. I can do chores, PA, actor, props, catering, anything. If one day I can make a movie with him that would be great!" In addition, Chow Sing Chi also paid attention to the new group that was known for their comedy, ERROR. Member Poki posted, "I want you to make a movie." He jokingly replied, "I wan to sing." Poki followed up and fought for the opportunity. "Can we release a duet?" Some "Keung Candies" also took the chance to fight for opportunities for their idol and successfully got Chow Sing Chi to respond. "That's good, I don't know if he would mind playing ugly." He even thought of the role for Keung To! Actually many stars like Vicki Zhao Wei played ugly characters in Chow Sing Chi movies and rose in popularity, so it absolutely would be a good opportunity. However who would know whether this "wishing well" would just be all talk? Reporters asked if he would truly ask Choi Si Bui, Keung To and others to make a movie, Chow Sing Chi's assistant Chris replied, "We would try to get in touch with them. Actually we have been meeting with many new generation actors." Wu Hung Yi shared a "dream" outside of work. With a happy family and 3 sons, she wished Chow Sing Chi would start a family and have a "Little Sing Sing". Chow Sing Chi lamented, "My life isn't as good as yours." * (2023/01/05) Famous composer Joseph Koo Ka Fai two days ago passed away in Canada at age 92. Her friend Gigi Wong Suk Yi received the notice from the Chinese Canadian Artists Federation in Vancouver, and Koo Ka Fai's sister Josephine Koo Mei confirmed the news. Koo Ka Fai dedicated his life to music, wrote many memorable classics like BRAVE CHINESE, HEAVENLY SWORD AND DRAGON SABRE, UNDER THE LION ROCK AND THE BUND, and won countless awards. He received the Top Ten Chinese Gold Song's highest honor -- the "Golden Needle" award, the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong "music achievement award" and others. Koo Ka Fai was like a mentor and a friend to Liza Wang Ming Chuen, they met in the late 60s. "Brother Fai wrote many theme songs for me. The songs he wrote were very right for me to sing, they were great and definite hits. He was very talented because he could accommodate people of any key, very right for everyone's voice." Adam Cheng Siu Chau also sang Brother Fai's countless classic songs and had deep respect and memories of Brother Fai. "I believe every singer who has sung his song would feel that song was tailored for them, made your quality stand out, all of which were key ingredients of why a song would be popular." He felt that Brother Fai's passing was a great loss to music. Currently in Australia, when Frances Yip Lai Yi started and competed in a singing contest SHARP NIGHT, Brother Fai as the judge gave her a full score. Later he invited her to sing commercial jingles and film soundtracks and brought her into the business. Later she rose to fame with THE BUND. Thus she said that without Brother Fai, she would not be able to sing for 51 years. She also praised him for having no temper. Brother Fai always helped the younger generation, one of them was Kay Tse On Kay. Brother Fai's final song before retirement, THE EARLIEST HAPPINESS (JUI CHOR DIK FAI LOK), was written for her. Listening to it again now, her emotions were mixed as she treated it like a valuable gift. In 2015 she took part in Joseph Koo's retirement concert. She missed the joyful atmosphere backstage with Brother Fai and a group of elders. Brother Fai in 2011 received the Hong Kong Art Development Council's "Lifetime Achievement", and many honorary doctorate degrees from many schools. He was highly respected by everyone. Last night TVB produced the special program UNFORGETTABLE MUSIC MASTER: MR. JOSEPH KOO as a salute to the music godfather. Joseph Koo's son Koo Chi Wo yesterday spoke to SCOOP over the phone from Vancouver. He said that her father's health was decent, only in the past two weeks he suddenly became fragile and could not sleep. A lot of bodily functions already were as great as before. Later his condition suddenly deteriorated and the entire family rushed to the hospital. My Mama was by his side, Sister due to health issues is in Hong Kong." Father's funeral would take place in Vancouver. A group of younger generation expressed deep regret over Koo Ka Fai's passing. Joey Yung Cho Yi on social media posted a black and white photo of her and Koo Ka Fai and wrote, "Forever miss you Brother Fai!" Another junior colleague Julian Cheung Chi Lam was fortunate to have performed his and James Wong Jim's 1994 TVB series THE LEGEND OF CONDOR HEROES theme song. "I was fortunate enough to have worked with him, this was destiny. Back them at the concert I was able to get a selfie with him, I was so happy! He was a music giant of a generation, his music would always remain in our memory." Singer Albert Au Shui Keung would miss Koo Ka Fai endlessly. "His song influenced the people Chinese around the world. His songs have influenced and touched everyone. Before I got into the business when I performed at restaurants, he already supported me. When I got into the business, he wrote MEETING IN CHILDHOOD for me. The last song he wrote for me was WHEN WILL WE MEET AGAIN. He was the most influential person in Hong Kong music history. His songs would always remain in this world." Jinny Ng Yeuk Hei, Lui Fong and Johnny Yip Chun Tong all expressed regret over Koo Ka Fai's passing. Koo Ka Fai was a humble Mr. Nice Guy in the hearts of many stars as he was willing to help new comers. Once performed Brother Fai's song DELUSION (the film LAST EUNUCH IN CHINA's theme song), Andy Lau Tak Wa said that Mr. Koo Kai Fai was a great musician of Hong Kong. He would miss him very much. "Dr. Koo was a Hong Kong music treasure. His work was classic and absolutely can represent Hong Kong music's golden era. His songs were the best gifts that he left us. May he rest in peace in Heaven. The beautiful and joyful songs under his pen were like angels, always remaining in our hearts." Musician Mak Chun Hung composes film scores in Hong Kong. Due to music he met Koo Ka Fai. Their friends would describe him as Brother Fai's "god son". Friends would contact Brother Fai through him. On social media he wished the great Mr. Koo continue to live happily and carefree over there, and he would forever and always miss him. Mak Chun Hung said that Brother Fai's passing was regrettable and sudden. He held back his sorrow and pain as he said that he has always admired brother Fai. Back then he asked Wong Suk Yi to invite Brother Fai to dinner, since then he and Brother Fai got along famously. Brother Fai always had exchanges with him over music. He said, "Brother Fai never said much, but when he chatted with me he would open up like a flood gate. We not only talked about music but also had heart to heart chats. Many people would ask Brother Fai to tea he would not go, but when I would ask him for afternoon tea he definitely would come. He really liked coffee. We often went to the coffee shop at the City Garden Hotel. From around 2007 to before Brother Fai emigrated to Canada, we constantly met. each time I would personally drive to Brother Fai's home to pick him up and drop him off. I would also take him for joy rides." He pointed out that Brother Fai marched along with the times, very early on he already knew how to use computer software to write songs. He was very good at it too. He would take care of Brother Fai's computer equipment connections and other issues. He said that when they met Brother Fai was already retired, but Brother Fai really loved him. He was easy going and did not put up air. After Brother Fai emigrated, they stayed in touch. How has Brother Fai's health been in recent years? He said, "We mainly stayed in touch through e-mail. He would reply very quickly. He was great, his mind was very sharp." Wong Suk Yi and Brother Fai became familiar in Vancouver, Canada. Because they were all members of the Chinese Canadian Artists Federation in Vancouver, they would meet for tea every Wednesday. Wong Suk Yi said, "Because he and Sister Koo Mei are painters, I like photography, so I was fortunate enough to join. Then every year we would hold exhibits together. He happened to live in the next block from me, so when I had parties I would definitely invite him. I act, and he made music, instead we got connected overseas. Later we were in Hong Kong, before the pandemic a film score composer Mak Chun Hung really admired Brother Fai and asked me to introduce them. Since then they have been great together. Koo Mei even said that I introduced this 'god son' to Brother Fai. Brother Fai was very easy going, always with a smile. When we met we didn't talk about music, everything was about food and life." Eliza Chan Kit Ling said, "Brother Fai was weaker in recent years, because his age was up there. I really miss him...... I was fortunate enough to participate of most of Brother Fai's concerts." She praised Brother Fai's Cantonese songs could not be topped, as they represented Hong Kong Cantonese song culture. Looking back at communicating and joking on the stage with Brother Fai, Wong Jim said that Brother Fai was "Beethoven of the Chinese people". She said that Brother Fai was very cute and humble, had a sense of humor, a Mr. Nice Guy who was also very willing to help the younger generations. This master passionately contributed to life and to music, younger generations should carry on this spirit. Kitman Mak said that her first album LOVE OF THE RHINE's producer was Brother Fai. She praised Brother Fai for not putting on air and was a great person. Back then she was still new. Brother Fai deliberately asked her to go to the studio to help her with her key. She also said that Brother Fai behaved and spoke like a child. He like an angel left good music for the world. She hoped that the Hong Kong government would be able to erect a Joseph Koo museum. His era made great contributions to Hong Kong music and he was a great artist of a generation. Johnny Yip Chun Tong's hit FORGET ALL THE LOVE IN THE HEART came from the hands of Koo Ka Fai. He was very upset by Brother Fai's passing, pointed out that Brother Fai wrote very beautiful songs for the singers. His work nowadays has already become classic hits. He was very grateful to Brother Fai. Fung So Bo started as a singer early on and worked with Koo Ka Fai. He said, "He had great achievements. We haven't been in touch for years. His wife is my friend. Back then we often played mahjong. Brother Fai taught me how to sing, but it was in the 60s and the 70s. I entered Brother Fai's life as a student. Many of Koo Ka Fai's songs had James Wong Jim's lyrics. They were known as the "Fai Wong" team. The first "Fai Wong" work was the Rebecca Pan sung Mandarin Song LOVING YOU BECOMES HURTING YOU. This destiny was made in the 1970s when he wrote the songs for a musical PAI NIANG NIANG. Koo Ka Fai mentioned in an interview that his work often had Wong Jim's lyrics and Roman Tam (Law Man)'s performance. He said that they were like an "Iron Triangle". "The composer has a little advantage. The song has to be done in 3 weeks. Everyone (composer and lyricist) should get a week and a half. I spent two weeks and six days on the composition, I wouldn't give the song to Wong Jim to write lyrics with until the last day. So he had to rush. THE BUND was like this, Ah Jeh (Wang Ming Chuen)'s BRAVE CHINESE was also." Most Hong Kong would not be strangers to the opening verses of THE BUND. "Fai Wong" over the years have set off many sparks. Koo Kai Fai not only used up "all" the song writing time, in a 2006 interview he shared the creative journey. The most memorable to me was the television station once arranged for Koo Ka Fai to write the theme song for the series THE BUND, but on the night before the deadline he still had no idea. Thus he called Wong Jim. "I hummed, while he wrote the lyrics. In less than a hour it was finished. The next morning we handed it to the television station for recording." Koo always admired Wong Jim's talent, saying that when they first worked together on LOVING YOU BECOME HURTING YOU he already sang the praises of Wong Jim to himself. "This person isn't simple at all." At the time of the interview, Wong Jim already passed away two years before. Koo Ka Fai mentioned, "Sometimes in the middle of the night I am composing on the piano, whenever I think of some good ideas my next instinct is to call and tell Wong Jim. Then I would think and remember that he is no longer here." "Fai Wong" in a 2004 interview said that their first Cantonese song was for the theme song for the television series A HOUSE IS NOT A HOME (GA BIN). Koo described the verse "Change originally is forever" has already become the golden quote for Hong Kong people. Wong Jim in the interview claimed to be an "explosive" person, "'Greeting' others with ease", but for over 40 years of working with Koo Ka Fai they have never argued. "Working with Old Tsui (director Tsui Hark)......the process was very rough......with Ah Fai we never argued, the process was pleasant, the result was beautiful, a heavenly collaboration that I feel is like from the good karma of my previous life." * (2021/01/05) Yesterday Ivana Wong Yuen Chi and Peter Chan Cham Man attended the Tam Jai Yunnan Rice Noodle's winter selection new production press conference as an "on screen couple". Just returned from Japan, she was concerned about her friend Hins Cheung King Hin catching COVID during his concerts. "I have lightly consoled him, I have a lot of confidence in his will power and healthy living. I wish him a speedy recovery, and resumes his concerts for his fans." Has she gone to his show yet? She admitted that she has not been arranged yet. Peter out of curiosity asked if she had to pay for her ticket. She said, "A little." Then she asked Peter to go together when Hin Jai resumed his shows, but she reminded him, "You have to get the tickets!" Ivana also looked forward to her Lunar New Year film with Hin Jai, EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL (CHIU SUN GAING HAI GIP ONG HA), because she was able to show off his great kung fu background. "I have a lot of action scenes, the opponent was Hin Jai. However I was able to control my fist, I would stop on the spot. He couldn't though, leaving me injured all over. Luckily I am fine now. (Did you ask him for medical cost?) No, that's why I wish him speedy recovery. I will deal with him after." Peter has ben busy the TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) play rehearsal, which would be different from the film's story and team. Thus everything would start from the beginning. * (2023/01/05) The Donnie Yen Chi Tan directed and starred Lunar New Year film SAKRA (TIN LUNG BAK BO ji KIU FUNG JUEN) has already been set for a release on the 19th. Chi Tan has been wracking his brains while casting the important characters of the film, and calling in favors. He invited several friends including Kara Wai Ying Hung, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai and others. Wai Ying Hung would play the role of Yuen Sing Juk, the mother of the female lead Ah Chu. Her character designs were different from the original. She said, "My first impression is it is very forward, a costume film but with Cowboy Western flavor! In addition, Chi Tan handled the emotional parts of the film very well, both the drama and the martial art fight scenes were exciting!" [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Chung Fung d. Opening August 30 2022 at the Hong Kong International Film Festival Opening October 27 2022 Trailer : https://youtu.be/YZ7g5Gp97B8 [ THE 46TH HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Adapted from a sensational real-life case in 2013, the intricate story begins when a young man partners with his friend to murder and dismember his parents. Pleading not guilty, the defense attorneys soon turn on each other, as the defendants play the devil and idiot game. Meanwhile, heated debates emerge inside the jury room, where nine jurors grapple with the truth. Crafting a complex, multi-layered narrative with surprising twists and turns, Ho Cheuk-tin sets himself a formidable challenge in this directorial debut. [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] Adapted from a sensational 2013 family murder, Henry Cheung partnered up with his friend Angus Tong to murder and dismember his parents. In the courtroom, two veteran lawyers Wilson Ng and Carrie Yau were defending the pair pleading not guilty. The prosecutor Allen Chu suggests the murder was a calculated move for money. But the plot thickened when Ng and Yau began to present their case, and when Tong rebutted all accusations on his own. The truth becomes all the more elusive as the defendants played the role of 'genius' and 'idiot' in court. In the breakroom, discussions between the nine jury members spiraled into debates of right and wrong. THE FIRST SLAM DUNK d. Opening January 12 2023 [ EMPEROR CINEMAS ] Slam Dunk is a shonen manga by Takehiko Inoue that was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990, issue No. 42, to 1996, issue No. 27. The series, which depicts the personal growth of several high school basketball players, has sold more than 120 million copies in Japan. It has inspired numerous boys and girls to get into basketball. An anime series (that ran from October 1993 to March 1996), several video games, and other media based on the manga have also been produced. The Slam Dunk Scholarship was established in 2006 to support young basketball players in Japan. In 2018, a new, 20-volume shinsoban edition with all new cover illustrations was published, with volume divisions at each milestone in the story. An artwork compilation, PLUS / SLAM DUNK ILLUSTRATIONS 2, was released in 2020 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the series' launch. The two team up as allies to investigate the mysterious tunnel in order to get what they want. It is an unforgettable, nostalgic story that sweeps past a summer in the countryside. In need of an assistant, he hires Candy, a young single mother with a penchant for stealing. The two slowly forge a bond, but the cruel realities of the pandemic loom on the horizon. Painfully timely but also tender in parts, Lam Sum's film is a poignant portrait of what happens when modern poverty is further exacerbated by an unprecedented calamity. It's a remarkably assured directorial effort enhanced by moving performances. [ EDINBURGH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] In the early days of the pandemic, Chak, struggling to keep his cleaning company afloat, hires single mother Candy. But as the chemistry between them develops, Candy finds it hard to abandon the survival tactics of deception she’s always needed to get by. Featuring gorgeous cinematography of night-time Hong Kong and a trio of exceptional performances, The Narrow Road is a humanist charmer, sensitive to the tough reality of lives lived with no margin for error. [15] Kate Taylor [ SCREEN DAILY ] This social drama focuses on the owner of a small cleaning company who can barely make ends meet.
