MISCELLANEOUS * (2022/09/05) The Louis Koo Tin Lok produced and starred film WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) after 10 days in release passed the HK$ 40 million mark; the Sandra Ng Kwan Yu produced and starred CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HOP GA LAT) also passed the HK$ 33.33 million at the box office. Two nights ago the two films held a joint audience appreciation event. Aside from the two leads, WARRIORS' Philip Keung Ho Man, Tony Wu Tsz Tung and Law Ho Ming and CHILLI's director Coba Cheng Chun Hin also attended. When Koo Tin Lok appeared, viewers already cheered endlessly and screamed thank you. They were grateful to Goo Jai for taking a big leap for Hong Kong film. Goo Jai said, "Thank you everyone. As for he lead actress his buddy Ivana Wong Yuen Chi would lend a helping hand, pairing with Hin Jai to fulfill his comedy dream. Cheung King Hin has been known to have quite a sense of humor, often posting funny videos on social media. Actually he has made his "comedy dream" clear on numerous occasion, hoping to have a chance to show his humorous side and make a film and television work that would make people smile from the heart after watching. After finishing his concerts in the middle of the year, he sensed that the past 3 years of the pandemic has tortured the people Hong Kong emotionally to a new low. Thus he decided to act and started to work on the script. After months of study and preparation, the comedy film that he led has already "taken shape" and slated for a production start at the end of the month. Hin Jai early in his career stepped foot in the film industry, participating in movies like MOMENTS OF LOVE (YUNG PO MUI YUT HAK FOR FA) and LOVE IS NOT ALL AROUND (SUP FUN OI). Later with his excellent performance in music he focused on his firepower on his music journey. The last time he participated in a movie was already 7 years ago. He would team with Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Michael Ning (Bak Ji) and Emperor new comer Suey Kwok Sze. In the story a cop in 48 hours had to find the diamond evidence that a buddy has stolen. He followed the mobile phone signal to a certain village, under an eerie atmosphere he began a battle of brains and brawn with the villagers. A female ghost at the time came to cause trouble as the unexpected comedy spot that connected the entire film. Although this time would be a comedy, Hin Jai has always done things seriously. When he learned that the film would have gun fight scenes, he practiced gun holding techniques hard. The film would shoot for around two months, initially hoping to be a Year of the Rabbit Lunar New Year film next year. Currently Hin Jai is busy with finishing the jobs on his hand, including an appearance on ViuTV's MISS MASK PAGEANT 2 on the 10th and a cosmetics brand event in the middle of the month. Then he would prepare for the production. As for the invited lead actress "Queen" Wong Yuen Chi, she is rather close personally with "His Highness" Hin Jai. BEAUTIFUL HONG KONG in the past year had two stages of evaluation. The professional guest jury selected 21 films, among them SAI GAN FAT, TAI CHI MOMMY and THE POEM OF THE CURRY FLAVOR won the open, the higher education and the secondary school categories. SAI GAN FAT director Cheung Jin Hung even won the Best Director award. Best Actor went to the higher education category film COMIC BOOK WORKSHOP WAR's Cho Chi Ho; Best Actress went to TAI CHI MOMMY's Cho Yuet. Event ambassador Chau Sau Na said that she has participated since the first event recruitment last year. Two nights ago finally with the awards results they had a good start. She was glad to see a group of young people who had their hearts set on joining the film industry was able to fulfill their own dreams. In the film Kara Wai Ying Hung and Hugo Goh (Ng Toi Yung) played a vision impaired couple who had a healthy daughter. The story depicted the conflicts between the blind and the sighted. Two days ago a second trailer from the Karena Ng Chin Yu played daughter's angle was released, watching the growing daughter to begin to become independent and mature and at the same time long for freedom in life, hope to have her own friends. The family that gave birth to her however became the obstacle in her life and journey to chase her dreams. In the film Chin Yu in childhood began to have to take care of her blind parents. In adolescence the mother and the daughter often fought. Chin Yu also had many school scenes and needed to wear a school uniform to play a secondary school student. She said that although she has left school for awhile, on the day of the school many people still complimented her on her resemblance to a student and made her very happy. When the trailer began Chin Yu saw Sister Hung waiting for her at the gates of the school, but because she just argued with Sister Hung she pretended not to see her and kept walking. Chin Yu said, "In the scene I ignored Mama, when I passed Mama I pretended not to know her because I didn't want others to know my family situation; before this scene I chatted with the director many times, and watched many documentary films about families with a vision impaired parent, how they would get along with their children. I did some research and I was very moved during the actual shoot." Chin Yu admitted that during the shoot she was very reluctant, in addition Sister Hung's acting also strongly affected her. Chin Yu said, "One of Sister Hung's eye wore a special contact lens, the other one she trained to be a little cockeyed. Ltd. summed up the film box office from July 1st to August 31st this year and yesterday announced the 2022 summer vacation film box office numbers. This year the entire summer vacation film box office total was HK$ 308,595,988, a rise of 21.07% from the same period last year but not yet returned to the 2019 pre pandemic levels. As social distancing measures were loosened, Hong Kong audience strongly supported Hong Kong films. Among them the Edan Lui Cheuk On starred CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HAP GA LT) since its July 14th release made HK$ 32,100,491 during the summer vacation to become the summer vacation Hong Kong film king as well as third place in the entire summer vacation film box office. It was only behind the first place Hollywood film THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER and the second place MINIONS: THE RISE OF GRU. As of September 1st CHILLI LAUGH STORY's cumulative box office already made HK$ 32,132,366. The surging science fiction film WARRIORS OF FUTURE (MING YUT JIN GEI) opened on August 25th and after seven days in release already made HK$ 30,101,000 and landed in fourth place on the summer vacation film box office. As of September 1st its cumulative box office was HK$ 32,148,569 and overtook CHILLI LAUGH STORY. As for the Keung To, Jer Lau Ying Ting and Best Actress Teresa Mo Shun Kwan starred MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) since its August 11th release to now made HK$ 29,630,786 in fifth place of the summer vacation box office. As of September 1st its cumulative box office was HK$ 30,079,501. In seventh place was DETECTIVE VS SLEUTHS (SUN TAM DAI JIN) and with over HK$ 800 million FAR FAR AWAY (LUEN LO SHAN KA LA) came in 10th. The May 26th release TOP GUN: MAVERICK is still in release and accumulated HK$ 105,711,061. Speaking of WARRIORS OF FUTURE, Goo Jai earlier appeared on Carol Cheng Yui Ling's radio program and was asked whether a sequel would be made. He stated that this time the investment was enormous, the box office would have to break even before a sequel would be made and he still had to work hard on chasing it down. When Sister Do mentioned Goo Jai was the Performing Artist Guild and Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers president as well as a film company boss, promoting Hong Kong film innovation should not be too hard. Producer and star Selena Li Sze Wa, Kenny Kwan Chi Bun, Adam Pak Tin Nam, Fung Ho Yeung and director Bizhan Tong attended the production ceremony that replaced the roast pork cutting with a cake cutting. Producing a film for the first time, Li Sze Wa joked that it was like doing odd jobs. "From scripts, casting and auditions, hair and make up, finding sponsors to catering I have to arranged everything. The most difficult of course is money discussions, which another producer would be responsible for. I would arrange for Micheline food, when the team had good stuff to eat the morale is a little better too." TAPE would be a remake of a Hollywood film. Sze Wa would play one of the key female leads, because lead actors Kwan Chi Bun and Adam Pak Tin Nam in the film would have many lines she recorded all the lines from the three of them for everyone to rehearse with. Only two months after returning to Hong Kong, Sze Wa was already working nonstop. Friends worried about the pressure on her and ruining her health again. She admitted that in the half of the year she has been recuperating. To keep her immune system from affecting her eyes, she had an operation and energy therapy. "Actually I still couldn't return to 100%. No one can tell from just looking at me, but I can tell myself. I am only about 85% back. My eyes had two operations, my vision hasn't been affected, but my eyelids have scars. When I sleep and close my eyes they could be seen, normally you can't see them!" Kwan Chi Bun yesterday had a toothache already on the first day of work. He said that perhaps he went to have his teeth clean less his gum is infected and very comfortably sore. When he had kale it hurt like being cut by a knife. Some said that as he got more wealthy he got less healthy. He joked, "I want even more wealth, but also want health!" In TAPE, he and Pak Tin Nam both would have many lines. Just his part of the script was already 200 pages and took him 3 weeks to remember. Luckily Sze Wan recorded everyone's lines so they would be convenient to memorize. After completing TAPE, Kenny would go to the Mainland for another film. He said that he would not care about the issue of quarantine, as he would go anywhere to make money. However if the quarantine policy would be cancelled, he would immediately take three months off for a vacation. His first choice would either be Japan or Korea, instead he would not dare to go to Thailand for now. He saw in the news that many Hong Kong people were lured to Cambodia on the promise of a job, which scared him very much. Kenny pointed out that he probably would not be so easily fooled, mainly he understood that there was no free lunch. In addition he was not brave, so he probably would not fall for the scam easily. However he has received calls that about investing his mandatory provident fund. "At the time I really was interested so I said let's meet to chat. However when he asked for a name, the person refused to say and in the end even hung up. Haha!" Kenny also pointed out that since he started in the business no one has fooled him, he felt that this was the advantage of signing with Emperor. "After finishing a movie once, other actors called me to ask if I got paid. I said I did. As it turned out I was the only one who was fully paid on the entire team. At the time when he was still new, he received lessons and assistance from the elders. He also caught the eyes of many red hot actors, from which he had many stories that few knew bout; so far many new comers saw him as an elder in the business, Kok Tak Siu admitted that he had an extra sense of responsibility. Like when he produced the ViuTV program THE POPCORN SHOW, aside from giving new comers opportunities as his guests he also tirelessly encouraged them. He only wanted to pass on the lessons the elders taught him. THE POPCORN SHOW already aired two seasons and invited many new comers as guests. Kok Tak Siu joked, "MIRROR, ERROR, COLLAR, and others, I have to meet and get to know each one, which was very time consuming." Which new comers left the deepest impression? He said, "When I make a comedy, I especially appreciate people who can let loose. I already saw several who could play comedy. 193 (Derek Kwok Ka Chun) is a very interesting person; before hand I already knew Edan (Lui Cheuk On) was very open and had no idol baggage. Actually it was true, he's pretty fun." On the program he often encouraged new comers. He said, "When I see that they are worth encouraging then I encourage them. I am not too old, of course I am not young either. However I have accepted many elders' advice and felt that it was my responsibility to pass them to a group of young people. Because of the elders' teachings, I indeed took a lot less detours." Kok Tak Chiu was grateful that he often had help from benefactors in show business, including the mentor who brought him into the business Clifton Ko Chi Sum, Johnnie To Kei Fung who made him a director for the first time, James Wong Jim who was extremely thoughtful with the younger generation, Wong Jing who gave him the opportunity to intern, and others. Kok Tak Siu after graduating from the university immediately became Ko Chi Sum's disciple, starting from screenwriting. He said, "When I was studying at the university in Vancouver I never thought of working in this business. At the time Director Ko Chi Sum was shoot IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD II (FU GWAI JOI BIK YUN) on location. I went to visit the set. In the end for the entire semester I stayed on the set. Master taught me about screenwriting and writing scripts." Kok Tak Chiu described To Sir as indeed mean, but not unreasonably mean. "As long as you worked hard and put in an effort, even if you did something wrong To Sir would not be mean. My first time as a director, To Sir almost held my hand and taught me how." He said that the most memorable was receiving several books from elder Uncle Jim, the books were filled with notes that Uncle Jim felt was very suitable for me to use. They were very valuable. He gratefully said, "Uncle Jim taught me a lot of things that I am still using now. If someone asks me, of course I would share them. However as Uncle Jim said, if the timing wasn't right others wouldn't be able to heart you no matter what." In 1992 as the screenwriter for the film ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL (GA YAU HEI SI), which Kok Tak Chiu said absolutely was an important experience. Aside from letting him know his value, after facing a group of superstars in the film he was not afraid of working with anyone. He said, "I mainly followed the plot between (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi and (Maggie) Cheung Man Yuk, (Leslie) Cheung Kwok Wing and (Teresa) Mo Shun Kwan learned that we had a lot of fun and very outrageous so they always pulled me aside and asked me what we were doing. Later they realized that most direct way was to buy me food. I would automatically go over and chat and help with ideas for their plot. Later (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu also used this method." Speaking of Gor Gor, Kok Tak Chiu found his days of working with him on OKINAWA RENDEZVOUS (LUEN JIN CHUNG SING) unforgettable. He told the story about the song ME. "One day I read 'I am what I am, I am a special kind of creation.' I told Gor Gor that those words described him very well. Gor Gor also thought they were very interesting. Awhile later he told me that he said those words to Lam Jik, who wrote this song ME; each time I hear this song I would think of how this song started and make me feel proud." Kok Tak Chiu and Chow Sing Chi for a period worked together nonstop, he said that the audience would not seen the joy between them. Each time they came up with ideas, they on average would have to come up with 20 -- 19 of which the public would never see but they would always perform it once. While working on FORBIDDEN CITY COP (DAI NOI MUK TAM LING LING FAT), Carina Lau Ka Ling knew that they were rehearsing. Before she even finished with make up she could not help but come to watch what they were doing. Kok Tak Chiu said, "I have watched many Chow Sing Chi performances that no one would see. Working with him was quite the pleasure, I still have yet to see an actor like him." Chow Sing Chi gave people the impression that he was difficult to get along with, Kok Tak Chiu described his relationship with him as both a teacher and a friend. They once saw each other all the time, once we frequently saw each other. they even went on vacation every year together for awhile. He said, "I taught Chow Sing Chi how to ski. I taught in the morning, by the afternoon he already skied better than me because he was very agile." In 1999 he worked with Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai for the first time on the film GORGEOUS (BOR LEI JUNG). Kok Tak Chiu said that being the film's director was the happiest thing in the world. He said, "Although through the company we discussed working together for a long time, but when Wai Jai agreed to perform I really was very happy. He was on time and memorized the script; in one scene Yam Yin Chai (Richie Jen) was drinking, at the time Siu Chai was rather new. Wai Jai was not only able to play his role but also able to make Siu Chai meet my demands. He was very sharp. He was even able to take care those around him." Luckily he worked with Wai Jai again on the film MY LUCKY STAR (HUNG WON CHIU YUN), ran into Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and witnessed him bringing the role of "Duen Hai" to life. He joked, "When I asked Cheng Chung Kei to play a woman, for him it wasn't difficult at all. He grew up overseas, he actually had the rhythm of a black woman; between us we had a lot of chemistry. As soon as I said it, he knew what he had to do. As soon as he played, I knew it would be right." Looking back at 30 years of exciting silver journey, Kok Tak Chiu said that he was very grateful that many actors gave him opportunities and felt that everyone was talented and enabled him to have a chance to learn from them. He said, "I have never seen successful people being half assed, the reason is definite. Even if you really feel half assed, it's because they very successfully made you feel half assed." He also advised new comers, "I feel that you have to be original, not to resemble anyone at all. Be the one and only, irreplaceable in order to be valuable. If not, you would just be one of many." The 57 year old Kok Tak Chiu was a film director, a screenwriter, an actor and a host. When he studied at the university in Canada he majored in broadcasting and minored in economics. After graduation he followed director Ko Chi Sum in behind the scenes work like screenwriting. He mainly created comedy films and had many opportunities to work with Chow Sing Chi. He also performed on screen. Screenplays that Kok Tak Siu participated in included ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL, THE FLIRTING SCHOLAR, LOVE ON DELIVERY, FROM CHINA WITH LOVE, FORBIDDEN CITY COP, GOD OF COOKERY, CJ7 and others. Film that he directed included ONLY FOOLS FALL IN LOVE (OI LO BAI SAU), CAUSE WE ARE SO YOUNG (KAU LUEN KEI), GORGEOUS (BOR LEI JUNG), MARRY A RICH MAN (GA GOR YAU CHIN YUN), AND MY LUCKY STAR (HUNG WON CHIU YUN). Once a Commercial Radio program host, he also worked as a host on television. Starting January this year he hosts the ViuTV program THE POPCORN SHOW and interviewed many on and off screen talent. * (2022/09/01) Louisa So Yuk Wa and Jan Lamb Hoi Fung two nights ago attended the film THE SPARRING PARTNER (JING YI WUI LONG)'s premiere.
