MISCELLANEOUS * (2022/06/08) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Dickson Yu, Alfred Hui Ting Hang and Hillary Lau Pui Hang yesterday attended a Tsuen Wan jewelry store opening. Receiving a 5 karat diamond ring, Mo Shun Kwan said that she constantly bought jewelry for her daughters. Has she prepared dowry for her two daughters? She hinted that she was planning for one of them. "My daughter doesn't want me to say, let's wait until when she feels is the right time before I share with everyone." She said that the most important was her daughter's happiness. Even if she became a grandmother she would not mind, because earlier in the film OVER MY DEAD BODY (SEI SI SEI SI SEI SUP SEI) she already played one. "In the film the child actor called me Grandma, at first I didn't know how to respond. After hearing it a few times the sweetness overtook me, I realized that my state of mind has begun to gradually change." * (2022/06/08) The Sil-Metropole Organization, Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asia Film and One Cool Film Production joint release, John Chong Ching produced, four new directors Daniel Chan Yee-Hang, Tim Poon Chi Yin, Hau Chor Fung and Yip Ching Hang directed film to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Handover, LOOK UP (YUT YEUNG DIK TIN HUNG), would open on June 23rd. The film with four stories would show how Hong Kong people chased the dreams in the past 25 years. One of the segments UNDER THE LION PILE was about the Bipin Karma played Nepalese who loved lion dance. Due to race he never got the chance to study the art. Later the Philip Keung Ho Man played Master Kwan made an exception and made him his disciple, so he would be able to fulfill his lion dance dream. As Master Kwan, Hak Jai actually studied lion dance on and off scene. He was able to dance with the lion head and play the drum. He was able to personally perform all the lion dance scenes in the film, more than capable of playing a master to teach his disciples. Hak Jai even shot videos on his breaks to teach viewers the basics of a resting lion dance and a moving lion dance to promote the art of dragon and lion dance. The shoot also reminded Hak Jai of his childhood with his mother. Once his sister was ill and had to see a doctor. It happened to be the Lunar New Year and people were performing lion dances on the street. Hak Jai after taking his sister to see the doctor with his mother darted to the streets to watch the lion dance, and completely forgot to put his sister's medication in his pocket. He recalled, "Mama looked everywhere for me, the more she looked the madder she got. When she found me she got me a lashing without hesitation, but now looking back I really deserved it!" * (2022/06/08) The 40th Hong Kong Film Awards would take place on July 17th. Although the event is still over a month away, several Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominees earlier participated in the program shoot. The event released their photos yesterday. 5 Best Supporting Actor nominees included ANITA's Louis Koo Tin Lok, DRIFTING (SHOOK SHUI PIU LAU)'s Tse Kwan Ho, TIME (SAT CHOOK GOR WONG FUN)'s Lam Suet, DRIFTING's Will Or Wai Lam and ZERO TO HERO (MAMA DIK SUN KEI SIU)'s Fung Ho Yeung all dressed up in suits and each had their own masculine charm; Or Wai Lam and Fung Ho Yeung were also nominated for Best New Performer. Among the 5 Best Supporting Actress nominees, CAUGHT IN TIME (CHUI BO)'s Nina Paw Hee Ching, DRIFTING's Loletta Lee Lai Chun, TIME's Chung Suet Ying, LEAP's Bai Long, and Fish Liew Chi Yu who was nominated for both ANITA and LIMBO (JI CHI). They were all dressed in black. * (2022/06/07) In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over, four major Hong Kong film companies Sil-Metropole Organization, Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asian Film and One Cool Film Production teamed up for the Sil-Metropole produced film LOOK UP (YUT YEUNG DIK TIN HUNG). The John Chong Ching produced, four new directors Daniel Chan Yee-Hang, Tim Poon Chi Yin, Hau Chor Fung and Yip Ching Hang directed film connected Hong Kong people, emotions and events from 1997 to now. With four different stories they told the days that we passed by in detail and ignited the brilliance of life to release positive energy. The film used four new directors to shoot four different style touching stories, including 90 DEGREE WORLD, the story about those with autism and OCD; RIDING WIND AND BREAKING WAVES about father and son; CANTONESE OPERA DREAM that mixed Chinese and foreign and UNDER THE LION PILE about racial discrimination. Among the four new directors, Hau Chor Fung and Yip Ching Hang were winners of the BEAUTIFUL HONG KONG short film project. The film had over 30 actors, including Chu Kam Yin, Aaron Chow Chi Kwan, Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai, Hubert Wu Hung Kwan, Shek Sau, Michelle Yim (Mai Suet), Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen, Alex Lam Tak Shun, Philip Keung Ho Man, Ben Yuen Fu Wa and Wong Sing Yui. LOOK UP was a joint release of four major film companies. Producer Chong Ching revealed that this was the idea of Sil-Metropole Organization CEO Chen Yiqi. Because this year would the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over, and the Sil-Metropole organized two years of the BEAUTIFUL HONG KONG short film competition, he hoped to use younger new directors and give them a chance to make some meaningful Hong Kong stories. Having worked with many veteran and famous directors, he praised the four new directors on their force of life. "This time I put in more effort, especially in the pre production screenplay participation, production to post production, editing and even music score. Because the directors had their own ideas, but I would have to consider whether their ideas would serve this film. At the same time I couldn't twist their ideas. There would be difficulties. It was very different from famous directors' production methods." Did the film set any message that it hoped to deliver to the audience? Chong Ching hoped through the film to bring out the positive message of good people, good events and working hard to the audience. The film would open on June 23rd. Chong Ching said about the performance of four directors. "There is no best, only better. However under such hard conditions and the pandemic they did decently, they were able to hand over something. Different people have seen the film and all four stories had people who liked them." After years in the film industry and producing many big productions, Chong Ching admitted that this time to him was a test. Time was very tight and the budget was around HK$ 10 million. Due to the tight schedule that required everything to be done in several months, it was difficult. In addition the stories were different so we had to think of many ways to connect them." He continued, in order for the directors' work to be fully displayed to the audience, if they did not make too big of a mistake he wanted to preserve it. Chong Ching also said that this time he got something out of working with new directors. New directors sometimes would have more daring creativity, but sometimes directors with too much experience would be 90% right but lacked the 10% impulse and courage to do it. New directors were able to do that. In the Hau Chor Fung directed CANTONESE OPERA DREAM, Sing Shun's journey went from social work to art and culture and through his own job began to pass the cultural heritage torch. Popular music and Cantonese opera originally had nothing to do with each other, each with its own rhythm. Yet with the same perseverance in music, the music student Yu Ho (Alex Lam Tak Shun) and Cantonese opera star Ming Fung (Michelle Yim) met by chance. The trio after numerous obstacles finally broke through tradition and dared to merge Cantonese opera and pop music for a surprising creation. Called ambitious by producer Chong Ching, Hau Chor Fung admitted that he wanted anything and everything. "I want to challenge the traditional Cantonese opera and electronic music. Before production the producer had to take a big risk, what would actually turn out from the production? When these two things come together what would the result feel like, and adding electronic music to Cantonese opera indeed was very difficult. Luckily we had help from the music producer. I really want to think the producer for trusting me." As a young person why did he choose Cantonese opera to be his production subject? Hau Chor Fung said that it was related to his childhood memories. "When I was little Grandma lived on Temple Street. Downstairs were street stalls. Every night Hung Sin Nui's ZHAOJUN DEPARTS THE FRONTIER would be looped a hundred times. This year due to the pandemic I actually sense how hard it was for everyone to sit together and eat or go to the movies. I didn't feel Cantonese opera was hard to listen to, outdated, not just suitable for the elderly to listen to." Hau Chor Fung also pointed out that mixing Cantonese opera and electronic music for the shoot not only had certain difficult but also required coordination from the actors. "In the film aside from Lam Tak Shun who was a musician, Mai Suet has performed but never trained in the Cantonese opera vocal, Shek Sau actually didn't know Chinese music. The month before the shoot they had to practice opera vocal and Chinese music, everyone went from not knowing to learned. This is also why film is wonderful and interesting." What message did he want to deliver by mixing Chinese and foreign music? He said, "Mix for me is just a word, why do I want to mix them? Just like in the film when Lam Tak Shu and Mai Suet got together, they just wanted to take a step forward to fulfill their own dreams. I wanted to express that mix, passing the torch, dream, they are all just words but they require heat. Just like Lam Tak Shun's line 'dream is very passionate, but also very extravagant', I too hope the world to be like that in the future." Hau Chor Fung also felt that in Hong Kong "passion" was not hard in chasing dreams, but often it would just be a momentary impulse; because people who were chasing dreams had to give up a lot to be able to keep going. Did he give up anything in order to chase his dream? He said, "Sometimes I would leave Hong Kong for months and would put family behind, but my family would understand and support me. (How would you encourage the younger generation?) The most important is to never forget your own intention, after giving it heat you have to keep going, don't let yourself leave the post." The Daniel Chan Yee Hang directed 90 DEGREE WORLD took place in 1997, when Sing Shun (Chu Kam Yin) who just got accepted into the university's social work department and went to the social welfare organization that service socially withdrawal youth for summer work. He met Hang Jai (Aaron Chow Chi Kwan) who had autism and obsessive compulsive disorder. Hang Jai's uncle (Chu Pak Him) discovered his unique artistic skill. With the opportunity that the social worker (Ivana Wong Yuen Chi) and the center director (Ben Yuen Fu Wa) gave, Hang Jai and Hang Nui (Cecilia So Lai Shan)'s dark lives became more colorful. Raised in Australia, Chan Yee-Hang returned to Hong Kong for work in 2001. He spent 9 years to write a script and did not make his first film until 2010. Chan Yee-Hang said that when he first had the concept because Mama in her youth worked at many different centers and saw a young person with autism and OCD who excelled in ceramic work chasing his dream. When he learned that producer Chong Ching was looking for a story of Hong Kong people, he was encouraged to chase his own film dream. "At the time Mama said that even those with autism and OCD would be able to find and chase their own artist dreams, shouldn't I have the hope and the ability to become a director? So I always remember this story, and with this rare opportunity I was able to make this story." The Tim Poon Chi Yin directed RIDING WIND AND BREAKING WAVES took place in 2003. Sing Shun (Chu Kam Yin) as working in social welfare for years decided to start a business with his buddy Lee Lap Bun (Hubert Wu Hung Kwan); yet, each great pln was scrapped due to Lap Bun's family issues. Lap Bun due to the lack of understanding from father Lee Po (Eddie Cheung Siu Fai) left home, until years later when father caught SARS he finally returned home. Under Mother (Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen)'s arrangement, he boarded the wooden boat that his father made a living on and prayed. Then he discovered his father actually kept his love hidden in his heart. The boat in the story was a symbol of Hong Kong, and the story brought out the father and son relationship with SARS in 2003. Poon Chi Yin said that his subject was family because his has deeply influenced him. He said, "Since childhood people have been chasing Papa to collect debt, the family was always arguing over money. In one scene someone fell off a hill and began to think what people would think about on the brink of death. I thought of family and started to slowly ignite this story. The film involved how two generations saw things, I felt that I was right. Wu Hung Kwan's character constantly was chased by his father Cheung Siu Fai for expenses, some of which was from Hubert and my real lives." Poon Chi Yin also said that he shot Brother Fai and Hubert's father and son relationship, because he wanted the audience to see the communication problem between two generations. He also felt that Hong Kong people communicated less and less. "Due to technology, (the distance) between people was drawn further and further. They even called less, too lazy to even call." As for the Yip Ching Hang directed UNDER THE LION PILE, an avid lion dance Nepalese fan Chandra (Bipin Karma) due to race never got a chance to learn the art. Later with Hoi Tung (Mak Wing Nam)'s connections, Master Kwan (Philip Keung Ho Man) made an exception and made Chandra one of his disciples. With help from Mo Wa (Wong Yik Ho) he received recognition and fulfilled his dream of dancing with the lion head. Yip Ching Hang said, "I chose lion dance as the subject because I saw friends lion dancing. Thus I was drawn to this tradition and started creating a lion dance story. Coincidentally producer Chong Ching wanted to find a lion dance story, so I used this platform to create the story. As the final story, the story was actually very simple -- only through collaboration would victory come." The film also talked about racial discrimination. Did he feel Hong Kong's discrimination issue was severe? Yip Ching Hang said, "Actually (discrimination) can't be changed, it's a human nature. Just like in the film how would lion dance improve, lion dance is a spirit of Chinese tradition. It contains determination and will, everyone would run into hardship. If everyone persists with the same belief of working together, the industry would improve even more. This is what I want to say." The film was shot during the peak of the pandemic, many locations had restrictions and made the production difficult. Yip Ching Hang helplessly said, "No matter how much safety precaution we took it was useless. On the last day because of too many extras, after the shoot even I tested positive. Many actors did too." * (2022/06/07) The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Francis Ng Chun Yu, and Alex Fong Chung Shun starred new film NOI MOK (INSIDE INFORMATION) held a production start ceremony on the 6th. Other actors in the film included Niki Chow Lai Kei, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yee), Gladys Li Ching Kwan, Chan Kwok Bong, Lok Ying Kwan, Geng Changjun, Max Cheung Tat and others. Sing Sing admitted that he was mentally prepared to get hurt while making an action film. Ng Chun Yu did no mind taking over for Raymond Lam Fung last minute, but joked that he better get paid sooner. Kwok Fu Sing said that years ago he worked with Chun Yu on the film 2000 AD and was very happy to work wit him again over 20 years later. In the film Sing Sing would play a lawyer while Chun Yu would play a cop. They would go from not seeing eye to eye in the beginning to becoming friends. Would Sing Sing have a lot of professional term dialogues? He said that he was mentally prepared. The film has started production for a dozen days or so. As for memorable scenes, Chun Yu said, "Tonight I would have to team up with Sing Sing and fight the bad guys, a scene that would be relatively harder to deal with." Sing Sing revealed that in the film he would have action, stunt and gun fight scenes. He hoped to be able to finish them successfully in a week. He also said that the character also taught children taekwondo, so in this period he would work hard on stretching to try to stay flexible. How has Chun Yu prepared before the action scene? He admitted, "I would leave it to the stunt double." Sing Sing revealed that in one scene Chun Yu had to run around on the roof. Has Chun Yu gotten hurt? He said with certainty. After that scene he rested for a week. Sing Sing said that while working on action scenes he would often remind himself to be careful, but injury was inevitable. Taking over for Lam Fung at the last minute, would Chun Yu mind? He said, "No, it's pretty good. I get to be n Hong Kong. They used a lot of words to comfort me, but all they have to do is pay me sooner. (Did the salary motivate you?) No, mainly because it was Mr. Yeung (Albert Yeung Sau Sing)'s production. Last time I was arranged to work with (Jacky Cheung) Hok Yau and (Nicholas Tse) Ting Fung. This time it's with Sing Sing. I wouldn't calculate as much." Earlier Sing Sing's wife Moka Fang shared their Duen Ng Festival photos on social media as the family of four went boating. Sing Sing said that because his daughters wanted to watch the dragon boat race, so on Duen Ng Festival he took the girls to Stanley to watch the competition. However he remembered the wrong time. When they arrived the race was already over. Then he changed the plans to go boat rowing and had a lot of fun. Also a father Chun Yu said that children all felt the first contact with something was very novel. "Back then it was the first time I took my boy to Toys R Us, he was like a duck out of water. Now he doesn't even go out, he doesn't want to bother." On June 19th Father's Day would arrive, how would they plan to celebrate? They both asked which day was Father's Day? Chun Yu joked that if he could remember Mother's Day he would already be great. Sing Sing said, "My papa passed a long time ago. Now I am a father, seeing the children grow is the happiest. With the pandemic easing recently, we can return to basically normal lives. Mainly I won't need to fly around. I can spend more time with the family, which I am already very happy about. Whether it was a holiday or not Papa still has to do that. Being a parent is tough, not just for Papa." Yam Tat Wa revealed that in the film he played a financial director, a people in danger. He also said that on and off camera he would have to listen to the Chairman big boss (Fong Chung Shun). Fong Chung Shun joked, "Brother Wa, stop messing around. You have more money than me, but don't you worry. I wouldn't ask you to lend money to me, at most I would ask you for a place to stay." Did he set up Brother Wa in the film? He said, "If he wants to die, do I keep him from it?" He also said that Brother Wa had an action scene right from the opening. Brother Wa reveled that in that scene he jumped from the fifth floor, but because it was higher he would use a double. Speaking of action scenes, Brother Wa said that the most memorable was years go when he worked on a Mainland series and had to jump from three stories up. Originally he had a double; but due to the height difference between them, he finally decided to perform the stunt personally. He also thanked action directors Dion Lam Dik On and Yu Siu Ming for their guidance. He even boasted, "Now I can fight OK!" As for Father's Day, both fathers would have to work. Brother Wa however stated that no matter what he would take time to dine with his family to celebrate. Fong Chung Shun said that Father's Day was not very important. Mother's Day was the most important. Brother Wa agreed. "All the father's credit goes to mother, because mother has it too tough, so on Father's Day I would buy flowers to give to my wife." Niki Chow Lai Kei, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yee) and Gladys Li Ching Kwan would all participate in the film. Chow Lai Kei would play a lawyer with her on screen boyfriend Kwok Fu sing. He said that she just returned to Hong Kong from working in the Mainland. Yesterday was her first day at costume fitting, so she did not know whether she would have any intimate scene with Sing Sing. "This isn't a romantic film, it's probably just the usual boyfriend girlfriend relationship!" When she first started, she played Sing Sing's girlfriend in his music video. Looking back it was over a decade ago, both have become parents and their own family and the feeling was wonderful. Earlier when she worked in the Mainland for three months, she had her two year old son with her. Niki said that taking care of her son while at work was rather tough, but also very happy because her son was rather funny. Like a comedian he loved to make fun and cheer her up. Would she want to try for another? Niki said, "I wouldn't dare just yet. I want to serve the company a little first. I still have film contracts to fulfill!" Tong Yee in the film was in charge of a charity organization. This time was her first film after giving birth, but earlier she also worked on other jobs. This time 90% of her scenes were with Sing Sing. In the past she has worked with Sing Sing twice. This time she felt calmer than in the past. During the breaks they would talk about parenthood. Li Ching Kwan in the film would play a reporter who wants to find out th truth. She was very happy to be able to work with all the elders. However sometimes she would be so nervous that she would mess up or even forget her lines. Fortunately the elders did not pull rank and even behaved very professionally. * (2022/06/07) The 7 Hong Kong master directors including Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Ann Hui On Wa, Patrick Tam Ka Ming, Yuen Woo Ping, Johnnie To Kei Fung, Ringo Lam Lan Tung and Tsui Hark directed SEPTET (CHUT YUN LOK DUI) in two years was invited to participate in many renowned international film festival like the Cannes Film Festival, the Lumiere Film Festival, Rotterdam International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival. The film will open on July 28th in Hong Kong. SEPTET gathered Hong Kong film industry elders and new talent actors of substance including Timmy Hung Tin Ming, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Sire Ma Choi, Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, Ian Gouw (Ng King To), Yuen Wah, Ashley Lam Hoi Ling, Ng Wing Sze, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, Tsui Ho Cheong, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Mimi Kung Chi Yan, Lam Yu Hin, Chung King Fai, Cheung Tat Ming, Emotion Cheung Kam Ching, Lam Suet, Lau Kwok Cheung and others in detailed performance of Hong Kong stories from different eras. The film theme song LONG LONG AGO would be the first song from Lam Hoi Ling. * (2022/06/06) The Ron Ng Cheuk Hei, Kenny Wong Tak Bun and Justin Cheung Kin Sing starred film series BREAKOUT BROTHERS (TOH YUK HING DAI)'s "final chapter" -- BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3 added Moses Chan Ho as the new prison warrant, who battled brains and brawn with everyone to stop a great prison escape conspiracy. Earlier Ron, Wong Tak Bun and Cheung Kin Sing spoke to the press together. Aside from sharing fun experience from the production, Ron when asked about rumored girlfriend Hana Kuk Chi Kiu remained tight lipped, but thus became the laughing stock for his co-stars and was just as entertaining. Taking part in all three films in the series, Tak Bun pointed out that in recent years Hong Kong films already very rarely would reached a trilogy. He wanted to thank the director the most, because he has never played the same character in a film trilogy in his career. Playing the prison warrant, he in the previous film already turned into a evil dark lord. Tak Bun said that although this character was pretty fun, it was also very hard to play. Ron and Cheung Kin Sing both said that he knew the role like it was the back of his hand. Tak Bun humbly said, "It's still very hard to play." In the film Tak Bun had many scenes with Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Chan Ho, even a close quarter combat scene with Ah Tam. "In one scene we were fighting in the kitchen, with grease all over. We didn't roll on the floor but we did roll on the table." Earlier Ah Tam injured his ribs on the set, which Tak Bun denied having anything to do with. He pointed out that Ah Tam was injured on the set of the second film for a scene on the wires. Did he have to accommodate Ah Tam during the fighting scene? Tak Bun said, "Of course, but actually Ah Tam was the one who had to adjust to me. When I hit him, he would dodge to accommodate me. Because Ah Tam worked on the third film before recovering, Ah Tam was still able to block -- which was amazing." The film's cast was almost all male, since they already had certain chemistry they clicked right away. The shoot of course was smooth. Cheung Kin Sing said, "As soon as we took our marks the production went smoothly, we don't hinder co-stars from doing their own things." Recently linked to Hana in rumors, Ron was asked he was kept from dating. He immediately stressed, "No, at the time we were making two movies at once. I was able to coordinate. (Has the relationship become clear?) I didn't say that, when I said that I was able to coordinate I was talking about family. I was able to make time to eat with Ma. (What about your girlfriend?) I am not talking about that." When Tak Bun and Cheung Kin Sing heard that Ron was asked about his rumors, they immediately leapt up and back in a funny way. When asked if Ron would ask his girlfriend to support the new film, he said, "No matter who it is, they should buy their own tickets to support the film industry. (Would you go together to watch the movie?) I don't even have time to watch it myself, because I have to make movies." Returning to their seats, Tak Bun and Cheung Kin Sing were asked if Ron has introduced his girlfriend to them yet. Cheung Kin Sing immediately said, "We don't ask, we talk about cars. If the car is the 'wife', then we are always swapping 'wives'." Ron reacted drastically, "Wow......jinx." Cheung Kin Sing revealed that even if Ron didn't bathe everyday he still would wash his car. Thus work could not go overtime. When asked if Ron's car only played Hana's songs, Ron was stunned and did not know how to answer. When asked if Hana visited the set while making this film? Ron stressed that she did not. Tak Bun stared at Ron and joked, "I don't even know which one is your girlfriend , I am waiting for you to confirm. You haven't confirmed. (You don't dare to say?) I really don't know." Cheung Kin Sing spoke up and explained that on the set aside from star Christine Ng Wing Mei, no opposite sex appeared. Although their relationship has not yet been publicized, Ron and Hana were rumored to be living together in a mansion. Ron immediately denied that they lived together at the reported location. "At least investigate first, (investigate what?) I haven't thought about it. (Have you tried living together?) I haven't, no no no." Cheung Kin Sing chimed in, "You messed with people a lot, elder." Even when Cheung Kin Sing could not help, Ron helplessly said, "If he doesn't speak he is already helping me." Earlier he and Bosco Wong Chung Chak shot promos for a music program. Ron said that it was only an interview taping for the show, he denied that he would perform on it. Because he had work on hand and the quarantine would require a month, he did not have time to attend the taping in Changsha. However he admitted that he still had a singing bug. If he would get to sing he would, he would have to wait until Tang Chi Wai return to Hong Kong he would be able to, because only he had any idea what his singing range was. Did Tang Chi Wai introduce Hana to him? Ron denied, "If we saw each other at TVB we definitely would know each other." Reporters joked that even if they knew each other they might not be dating, just like Tak Bun who has been at TVB for years but has never been linked in rumors with any female artists. Tak Bun pouted and said, "No one likes me." Ron pointed out that no one would want someone as handsome as Tak Bun? Tak Bun smiled and said, "Don't cheer me up." The married Tak Bun was asked if he shared the advantages of marriage with Ron. Tak bun felt that Ron would know even without him telling him. Did Ron have any plan to wed? He said as usual, "Work comes first." Tak Bun agreed that work would come first, especially when Ron is transiting to an action star he should focus on work first. * (2022/06/05) Best Actor Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Cya Liu yesterday worked on their new film at the airport. At first only she could be seen, only when Ting Fung was required on the set did he suddenly appear. They worked for about 5 minutes and quickly left. Although it was a "flash shoot", he still gave a full range of emotions in his performance. He absolutely did not slack off! The Herman Yau Lai To directed, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Cya Liu and others starred Emperor Motion Picture HOI GUAN JIN SIN (CUSTOMS FRONT LINE) has been heating up in production. In yesterday's scene Cya Liu and friends arrived in Hong Kong, and the police sent a team to pick them up at the airport. Before places, Cya Liu frequently rehearsed with her co-stars. Director Yau Lai To also gave their directions. Although the pandemic left the airport with less traffic, some still looked on. The production was serious as even the airport pick up scene took hours to shoot. At first only Cya Liu waited for the shoot and Ting Fung was nowhere to be seen. After she changed into another costume and prepared to take her mark, Ting Fung suddenly appeared, shot a scene in which they stepped out of the airport and left quickly as he again disappeared into the crowd. The process took only around 5 minutes. As the film's action director, Ting Fung earlier was topless at the Central pier and showed off his 8 pack abdominal muscles. Whenever he was resting, fans rushed up for photos. He was friendly and responded to any and all requests. Perhaps the team was worried about drawing a large crowd of fans like before at the airport, they arranged for him the "flash shoot" only he was needed. * (2022/06/05) The films BREAKOUT BROTHERS (TOH YUK HING DAI) and BREAKOUT BROTHERS 2 both days before their released ran into the pandemic rebound that forced cinemas to close. Both film releases were forced to be postponed. When the final chapter BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3 arrived, it successfully opened as scheduled on June 2nd. BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3 finally had a smooth opening and even became the only Hong Kong film in the period. With the Duen Ng Festival long weekend, director Mak Ho Bong and stars Justin Cheung Kin Sing and Kenny Wong Tak Bun two days ago went to the movies for audience appreciation events to thank viewers for their support of BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3! Director Mak Ho Bong said, "We have the nickname 'Pandemic Brothers' because the first and the second film had to be postponed as the pandemic closed cinemas right before their releases. This time the final chapter finally was released as scheduled, we are truly very happy! I hope everyone would have fun watching it!" Tak Bun and Ah Sing both worked from the first to the third film, naturally their emotions ran deeper. "I am very happy that the final chapter finally was able to see the audience at the movies." Tak Bun said, "My character Tang Hon Chung's change was enormous, going from the prison warrant to a prisoner in the final chapter. I hope everyone would like this story when they watch at the movies." The film was the only Hong Kong film for the Duen Ng Festival slot. With a variety of foreign blockbusters, the trio thanked viewers for buying tickets. "I am very grateful to every viewers here. On this holiday of Duen Ng Festival, you are willing to choose to buy tickets and watch BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3. Hong Kong film really needs everyone's practical support. Thank you everyone." * (2022/06/03) The Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Edan Lui Cheuk On starred, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu produced and starred film CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HOP GA LAT) would open on July 14th. Yesterday the film company released its latest trailer, which opened with Cheng Chung Kei, Edan, Gigi being interviewed in their bathroom individually. They shared a lot of fun highlight from their home life and complained about each other. Edan seemingly minded Papa Chung Kei, citing that he knew how to recite the scripture like the "Venerable Tang Monk" as he would nag incessantly everyday. To show despicable Chung Kei's Papa character was, a delivery person delivered something but had no idea what it was. Chung Kei slammed him. "You delivered the goods without any idea what it is, now you are 'punt' delivery person! I haven't complained about you yet!" Without any idea how troublesome he was, he instead said that his family was hard to take. He stated, "They can't be without me!" Finally Edan was forced to come up with a great idea to sell "chili sauce" so the family would have something to do and not have time to bother him! However the business blew up as the flavor spread far and wide, and every corner heard about it! The trailer even flashed a scene in which Edan and his on screen girlfriend Angela Yuen Lai Lam shared a bath, which became the talk of the town. * (2022/06/03) The film that would celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over, LOOK UP (YUT YEUNG DIK TING HUNG) will open on June 23rd. The film would be divided into four parts, stories about dream chasing Hong Kong people, relationships and events from 1997 to now. John Chong Ching produced the entire film, and four new generation directors Daniel Chan Yee-Hang, Tim Poon Chi Yin, Hau Chor Fung, and Yip Ching Hang directed the four segments. The segment that Hau Chor Fung directed was about Cantonese Opera. Because Cantonese Opera became an intangible cultural heritage, director Hau Chor Fung made it a special subject and invited Michelle Yim (Mai Suet), Shek Sau, and Alex Lam Tak Shun to perform, Cantonese opera diva Tse Hiu Ying to perform and was the art director for the Cantonese opera, and Ko Yun Hung as the Cantonese opera music director. In the story the Mai Suet played Cantonese opera star was inspired by the Tse Hiu Ying played Chun Ying, as the industry's hard work received the government's assistance to give young Cantonese opera performers a chance; Lam Tak Shun who returned from overseas to develop his music career also got a chance; finally Mai Suet also found her second life, everyone charged ahead in their own areas! Hau Chor Fung chose Cantonese opera to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over because when he was little he lived in 42 Temple Street. Because downstairs was a mahjong parlor and a fairground, at midnight Cantonese opera would still be playing. Aside from THE FLOWER PRINCESS, the most played was Hung Sin Nui's "ZHAOJUN DEPARTS THE FRONTIER". Grandpa would play the erhu while Grandma sang. The family of a dozen or so would spend their family time in the music, which was Hau Chor Fung's deepest childhood memory. He felt Cantonese opera was modern art, as Cantonese opera's beautiful costumes, scenery, every part was how modern art would catch people's eyes. Mai Suet really liked Cantonese opera, as she wanted to participated in any and all things Cantonese opera. Mai Suet has seen Tse Hiu Ying's Cantonese opera performance of THE JEWELRY PURSE, so when they worked together on the film, Tse Hiu Ying loaned her personal costume to Mai Suet and taught her Cantonese opera. Mai Suet taught Tse Hiu Ying how to overcome her nervousness and how to achieve the character's personality. Tse Hiu Ying saw Mai Suet as a great elder, and felt very honored to be working with her. Mai Suet respected Cantonese opera performers very much and took great care of her junior. She said to Tse Hiu Ying, "We can't lack off on screen, since we don't want to give ourselves regret later. Thus when even one strand of hair is off, it has to be fixed before the shoot." * (2022/06/02) The Kearen Pang Sau Wai directed, Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Keung To, Jer Lau Ying Ting starred new film MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) earlier was selected for the 17th Osaka Asian Film Festival and won the Chicago Asian Pop Up Cinema "Audience's Choice" award, but due to the pandemic it was unable to be released. Yesterday Emperor Motion Pictures released its first trailer. In it mother Mo Shun Kwan would return to her job as a manager as she planned to make a cafe worker Fong Ching (Keung To) into a singer. Her son Tze Hin (Lau Ying Ting) did not seem too supportive about his Ma's decision. Later the two guys "lived together" but Jer was obviously upset. He often nitpicked everything with Keung To. When Keung To introduced himself as a cafe worker, Jer coldly responded, "I can tell!" He also rejected Keung To's invitation to sing karaoke together. They set off a lot of spark and were a lot of fun. * (2022/06/02) Patrick Tam Yiu Man earlier worked on the film BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3 (TOH YUK HING DAI 3) with an injury and had a close quarter combat in the kitchen with Kenny Wong Tak Bun. He joked that he was already used to working with an injury. The Ng Kin Hung and Edmond Wong Tze Wun produced, Mak Ho Bong directed, Tam Yiu Man, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei, Justin Cheung Kin Sing, Adam Pak Tin Nam, Kenny Wong Tak Bun starred BREAKOUT BROTHERS 3 added Moses Chan Ho as the new prison warrant Ma Man Ho. They battled brawn and brains to resolve another prison escape conspiracy! At the end of the second film Tak Bun went from the prison warrant to a prisoner. This time he even had conflict with the Tam Yiu Many played prison boss. Tam Yiu Man even performed their fight scene despite his injury as he and Tak Bun locked in on close combat. Reportedly, Tam Yiu Man while working on BREAKOUT BROTHERS 2 injured his rib from a car roll over scene. Also because the second and the third films were being shot at the same time, when working on the BREAKOUT BROTHERs 3 kitchen fight scene with Tak Bun Tam Yiu Man despite his injury still fully submerged himself into it. He even said that he was already used to working with injury. "I am used to it, since becoming an actor I really have had any and all kinds of injury. Luckily my co-star is the rich in experience Tak Bun. I could not only relaxed during the shoot but the result was also great. However the most memorable was for my first film a Muay Thai master knocked out one of my tooth. Perhaps he thought he was in the ring, so I couldn't blame him. After I picked up the tooth I immediately went to the hospital. After the bleeding stopped I returned to the set to keep shooting." Tak Bun said that he knew Tam Yiu Man was injured, so during the shoot he was extra cautious. "Because in that scene everyone was in close combat, I had to push him onto a table and punch him. I was very worried that I would hurt him more, but everyone was very professional. we had good stunt coordinators on the set. Although the process was difficult in the end everyone was able to finish the shoot successfully. I hope that the audience would enjoy watching it." * (2022/06/02) The 40th Hong Kong Film Awards would take place on July 17th. The film would continue director Dennis Law Sau Yiu's violent and bloody style with a cast of actors of substance. However a 78 page Department of Justice scene stumped many actors. Brother Fai, Maggie Siu Mei Kei before the shoot kept quietly reciting their lines -- completely like students making a final push before an exam. In the film a building rebuilt uncovered 8 year old human remains. The police was certain that the victim Yung (Tony Ho Wa Chiu)'s ex-wife Yin Fung Ping (Chan Jing) and their landlord Chiu (Hung Tin Ming) conspired to commit murder. Yet as the police investigated, all the suspicions left the issue unresolved. That 78 page scene was a discussion of the case between police captain Brother Fai, inspector Maggie, prosecutors Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen and Joe Junior. Brother Fai said, "Before the shoot I already had a complete script, but during the shoot the director would come up with better ideas, lines or scene order. Later everything would be rearranged and the dialogues would be fixed live on the set. This time I don't have any action scene, but it's harder on the brain." On the set, Brother Fai often had a script in hand and asked the director whenever he had any question. Then he would return to his seat and bury his head in the script. Also stumped by the long dialogues, Maggie revealed that the 78 page case discussion took two days to shoot. She said, "This time was a huge challenge, because the dialogue mostly analyzed the case a lot of the information couldn't be said wrong. As soon as I heard 'action' it was like a test, and 'cut' it was like the end of school bell. It was really interesting, the actors were like a group of classmates." Years ago he’d won a best director trophy at the Bucheon film fest in Korea and he was riding high with promise. But an early feature flopped at the box office, investors lost interest and he became mired in shooting crummy shorts. When the chance comes to make a wuxia film for a dodgy backer, he leaps at the opportunity and gives it a shot – not for financial gain, but for deeply personal reasons. As a child, Cheung had been enthralled by the martial arts TV series Seven-Star Sword. Yet his memories of the show were soured by its sudden turn in the 30th and final episode. Star Master Dragon had been booted out for that instalment and now, decades later, Cheung still feels the show is incomplete. Studio space is booked for a remake, and through chance encounters Cheung stumbles into hiring the now elderly Master Dragon as lead actor and a beer girl without acting experience as co-star. As the production moves from minor farce to the risk of failure, and with Cheung's devotion to the film causing marital strife at home, the director must work miracles to make everything come together. Ryusuke Hamaguchi's wise, precisely observed, compulsively watchable drama of friendship and midlife awakening runs over five hours, yet the leisurely duration is not an indulgence but a strategy to create a novelistic space for everyday moments to become charged with possibility that yields a subtle emotional intensity rarely possible in a standard-length film. Happy Hour is far more than just an ordinary melodrama. It is a spectacularly complex and fiercely poetic rendering of the details of daily life in which ideas and feelings are swayed by the unseen forces of friendship and love and buffeted by the weight of deception, loyalty and tradition. Winner of Locarno Golden Leopard for Best Actress, Special Mention Best Script Happy Hour will be presented in 2 parts with Part I 203mins and Part II 115 mins. Full length of the film is 317 mins.
