* (2019/04/17) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Owen Cheung Chun Long, Benjamin Yuen 
Man Kit two nights ago were guests on the Liza Wang Ming Chuen game show 
LIZA'S ONLINE.  
	Speaking of her reunion with former co-star Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) 
at the Hong Kong Film Awards, Chin Wa was surprised.  "A few days ago I 
just texted him, originally I planned to visit him during my U.S. tour 
because I have never seen his daughter.  I didn't expect him to appear 
backstage at the award show.  I was very happy.  We met when we were 
younger, but only chatted a little before our appearance."
	Ng Yin Cho reunited with GEN X COPS (DUT GAING SUN YUN LUI)'s 
Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Nicholas Tse Ting and Sam Lee Chan Sam.  Chin Wa 
said that the scene was moving and hoped that he would be able to return 
to Hong Kong to make movies.  "He holds a place in Hong Kong films.  I 
wouldn't mind working with him again, but first we will have to find a 
script and investors."
	Ah Jeh heard that the program response was good, which was rather 
gratifying.  Her husband Law Kar Ying was recovering at home.  Did she 
play games with Brother Kar Ying to keep him entertained?  Ah Jeh said, "I 
mainly take care of his three meals, I would go on walks with him and tell 
him to follow orders and rest more.  However he socializes normally, goes 
for tea with friends.  Constant sleeping would be dull.  Sometimes 
students would visit him."  He revealed that Brother Kar Ying's physical 
report was out and his health was fine.  However recovery would take 
time.  Thus he has turned down some jobs and would rest until next month 
before returning to work.

* (2019/04/17) Nicholas Tse Ting and Brightway chair and Emperor Group 
executive director Alex Yeung Ching Lung yesterday attended the Hong 
Kong International Entrepreneurs Festival launch ceremony and forum. 
	Speaking of earlier when he, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Stephen Fung 
Tak Lun and Sam Lee Chan Sam were guest presenters at the Hong Kong Film 
Award as the cast of GEN X COPS (DUT GAING SUN YUN LUI), he said that 
when he made the film he was 19 and joked that now he already became 
old human.  It was very rare to have a group of friends with the same 
interests, and he hoped to be able to work together again 20 years later.  
He also revealed that Benny Chan Muk Sing after RAGING FIRE (NO FOR) will 
begin to work on this film.  Would they reduce their salaries?  He joked, 
"Don't bring up this subject."  He also said that after the event he 
would get his hair cut to begin work on the Chan Muk Sing directed film 
RAGING FIRE.  As for his father Patrick Tse Yin's Lifetime Achievement 
Awards, he said that he was happy for his father.  He would not cook a 
special dinner to celebrate, but he would cook a meal for him.
	Albert Yeung Sau Sing was on hand to support his son.  Speaking 
of Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin not winning the Hong Kong Film Award Best 
Actress, Yeung Sau Sing was disappointed.  "Ah Sa was very relaxed, 
instead she comforted me.  She is still young and has plenty of 
opportunities.  I am not playing favorites, Ah Sa sooner or later will 
win Best Actress."  As for Anthony Wong Chau Sun thanking boss Yeung Sau 
Sing for his financial support, he admitted that he did.  "I lent a hand, 
not just artist, even when company employees had difficulties I wouldn't 
leave them hanging.  (How much did you help Chau Sun?)  Just enough.  
(Would you make more movies for Chau Sun?)  I would, we made DECLARED 
LEGALLY DEAD (SEI YUN MO HOR YI).  (Would Chau Sun get a raise?)  He isn't 
after money, he only wants a sense of satisfaction.  He does every job 
well, it's very rare for him to make STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) for zero 
salary.  It was purely for his dream."

* (2019/04/17) The Chief Executive yesterday announced new Mainland policy 
that would loosen restrictions on Hong Kong films, hinting that Hong Kong 
filmmakers would have even more creative space and freedom.  Aaron Kwok 
Fu Sing praised the move for being able to provide Hong Kong films with 
more opportunities to be enjoyed in the Mainland.  It would also help 
the Hong Kong film industry even more.  "I wish Hong Kong film colleagues 
will remain united and work hard, not only to enable Hong Kong films to 
be seen in the Mainland but in the entire world!"
	Recently working in the Mainland, Pierre Ngo Ka Nin felt that the 
policy would not be better.  Because in the past Hong Kong film actors and 
crew members did not have many choices when working in the Mainland.  
Aside from feature characters, they could not participate in third or 
fourth tier characters.  Finding opportunity in the Mainland was 
difficult unless the identity card was turned into a Mainland one.  Thus 
he was very happy to hear this news.  As for the ability to participate 
in Mainland film awards like the Golden Rooster Hundred Flower Awards, Ka 
Nin said that this was an encouragement for Hong Kong filmmakers.  Because 
for now only film restriction policy would be changes, Ka Nin hoped that 
in the future Central would loosen television series policy as well so 
more Hong Kong actors and behind the scene workers would benefit.
	Actor Ron Ng Cheuk Hei revealed that this move would be good for 
all actors.  Cheuk Hei said, "When a film or a television series no longer 
is limited to 5 people, many Hong Kong actors would have opportunities.  
Thus to both film and television it will be beneficial."

* (2019/04/16) Justin Cheung Kin Sing tried his hand behind the scenes.  
Recently he invited Linah Matsuoka and Jeana Ho Pui Yu to help with the 
new film he produced.  They even had to make sacrifices for art!  
Matsuoka had a sexy performance in one scene.  In it Cheung Kin Sing 
fantasized about Matsuoka in a sexy feather lingerie and modeled in front 
of him.  
	The temperature on the day of the shoot was only in the teens, 
but Matsuoka had to brave the cold in lingerie only.  The shoot even went 
on for six hours, people would get goosebumps just thinking about it.  
Cheung Kin Sing said, "She was very outstanding in this scene.  Everyone 
was breathless and wanted the shoot to keep going!  Because she was a 
model, she was very confident in the role.  She was in full control of 
that very hard to wear feather lingerie.  That day was very cold too and 
the shoot took so long, with a little less endurance finishing it would 
be difficult!"
	Playing Cheung Kin Sing's wife Jeana also had a challenge.  To 
bring the "fat housewife" to life she gained 15 pounds, she swallowed six 
boxes of white rice daily and had indigestion.  At night she was so full 
that she could not sleep!  However she said that as long as the result 
was ideal she would be willing to do anything, as she completely abandoned 
her pretty girl baggage!
	The film DECEPTION OF A NOVELIST (JOK GA DIK FONG YIN: BUK JUNG 
SAU JUI) earlier already held four test screenings and had decent word of 
mouth.  Many praised how well Matsuoka and Jeana performed.  Cheung Kin 
Sing as the producer and the actor also was spot on.

* (2019/04/16) A part of the 80's classic television series THE BUND, 
veteran action actor Lam Man Wai (originally named Lam Man Kui) passed 
away from illness.  Lam Man Wai's family yesterday began services at the 
Universal Funeral Parlor with the funeral taking place today.  Artists 
Koo Koon Chung and Mak Chi Wan went to bid their friend farewell.  Koo 
Koon Chung said that Lam Man Wai was in the business for 40 years.  A 
part of the first Shaw training class, he was a classmate of Alexander Fu 
Shing and Michelle Yim (Mai Suet).  They made movies together and played 
together, Koo Koon Chung said that Lam Man Wai was a very special 
stuntman.  No one in the business did not know him.  Mak Chi Wan said that 
last year he met with Lam Man Wai.  At the time his health condition was 
iffy and needed an oxygen tank.  He also said that when Lam Man Wai was 
a young stuntman, he had to wear an asbestos suit for fire scenes.  When 
it was cut off, he might have breathe in excessive asbestos and led to 
pulmonary fibrosis.

* (2019/04/16) Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung, Chrissie Chau Sau Na 
and others starred in the film P STORM (P FUNG BO), which after ten days 
in release became a hit in the Mainland and Hong Kong.  At the Mainland 
box office it made 600 million yuan RMB, and at the Hong Kong box office 
it already made HK$ 12 million.  Yesterday boss and producer Raymond Wong 
Pak Ming held a celebration luncheon. Goo Jai revealed that he did not 
ask for bonuses when he made movies and did not need any, as he only 
wanted to improve the Hong Kong film market.  Lam Fung's debut as a 
villain had great audience response, which he said made him feel a little 
better.
	The P STORM box office performance greatly surprised Lam Fung 
because he has not made a movie in awhile.  Goo Jai also opened up a new 
role for him as he played a villain for the first time, which also was 
the fruit of everyone's labor.  Did he have a shot of confidence?  Lam 
Fung said, "I am a little more comfortable."  He also said that in BACK 
TO THE PAST he would have a lot of action scenes, which would be weight 
loss exercises for him.
	Lately Hubert Wu Hung Kwan was rumored to have become arrogant 
and claim to sing better than Lam Fung, which led to the company 
suspending him.  Did Lam Fung know Wu Hung Kwan?  He said, "I do, 
actually we have worked together better.  My impression of him is very 
nice, very ambitious, his singing is great, I have no comment on anything 
else."
	Goo Jai was happy about the box office success as he was glad to 
see the STORM series films performing one better than the other.  Was he 
confident about passing 1 billion at the box office?  He said, "I have no 
set goal, as long as the performance is good I am happy."  As for bonus, 
Goo Jai stated, "No, no need, I am not the boss either, but I have known 
Wong Pak Ming for over 20 years.  (So it's not about the money?)  Not 
that, I would accept that I should.  I don't ask for bonus from any 
movie, I have never done that.  Sometimes maybe one is a hit, but 
several aren't.  Why add to their stress?  Of course I hope each one would 
be a hit, the most important is to improve the Hong Kong film market."  
Lam Fung stated that he would follow boss Goo Jai's lead and decline the 
bonus.
	The fifth film G STORM (G FUNG BO) will start production this 
year, Goo Jai said that first he would have to finish the currently in 
production BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) then he would have two more 
films.  He and Lam Fung after the celebration would return to the Mainland 
to continue work on BACK.  Goo Jai said, "The pain would begin after we 
return to the production this time, because we will have a lot of action 
scenes.  They are highly difficult and rather dangerous, including a 
rescue scene with Lam Fung."  After his surgery last year, Goo Jai 
admitted that he was afraid of aggravating his old wound.  However action 
scenes would not be the hardest, the comedy spots would be as they 
already made his head explode.  As for this year's Hong Kong Film Award 
winners, Goo Jai said that he got many right.  Wong Chau Sun called him 
the "new generation film tycoon".  Goo Jai laughed and said, "No 
comment.  (Do you have a lot of pressure?  Would you make more movies?)   
No comment, I would make good movies, please spare me!"

* (2019/04/16) The Hong Kong Film Awards two nights ago successfully 
presented each award.  The event held a celebration with three major 
film companies, fresh out of the oven Best Supporting Actor and Actress 
Ben Yuen Fu Wa and Kara Wai Ying Hung, Best Director Felix Chong Man 
Keung, nominees Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Catherine Chau Ka Yi, Nancy Wu 
Ting Yan, Jennifer Yu Heung Yi and others attended.  Emperor Motion 
Pictures won 10 awards, among them the Chong Man Keung directed, Chow Yun 
Fat, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG) won 7 
awards with Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best 
Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction, Best Costume and 
Make Up Design to become this year's big winner; the Dante Lam Chiu Yin 
directed OPERATION RED SEA received Hong Kong Film Awards voters' 
recognition with his serious and strict production as it won Best Action 
Choreography, Best Sound Design and Best Visual Effects.
	Best Supporting Actress favorite and winner Wai Ying Hung joked 
that she was worried that the voters would be tired of seeing her again.  
Sister Hung said, "When I got up I felt that I wouldn't feel right about 
winning again, proving that voters are fair and just.  I almost got all 
the award winners right, except that I didn't guess I would win."  Winning 
countless awards, Sister Hung said that her next goals would be for 
television and stage actress awards.  She said, "If I can win them then 
it truly would be the grand slam of life.  They will depend on luck, and 
a play can only be once and only once."  Would she give more "benefits" 
to celebrate her award?  Sister Hung joked that everyone has seen her in 
a bikini, she had no "new benefits" to give.  If anyone wanted to see 
more they could look at her previous photo collection.  Speaking of 
Sister Hung being very supportive of film industry new blood, she said, 
"Most of the award winning films in recent years are made by new 
directors.  Having the ability to support them is quite a honor, I hope 
even more friends would support them.  Only then would the industry be 
in full bloom."
	Choi Cheuk Yin did not win Best Actress but was not disappointed.  
Instead she breathed a sigh of relief.  "Earlier I have already watched 
all the Best Actress nominees' films.  Chloe Maayan's character is very 
hard to grasp.  I like Zhang Jingchu's performance in PROJECT GUTENBERG, 
to break out with Sing Sing and Fat Gor isn't easy."  Ah Sa said that 
because she did not have any reception inside the venue, after she left 
she immediately received several hundred messages, including ones from 
Joey Yung Cho Yi, Kenny Kwan Chi Bun and Ah Gil.  She said, "They watched 
television and cheered me on.  One was eating a banana and the other was 
eating an orange, which was very funny.  I am very grateful to have so 
many friends who love me.  I have had good luck, I believe that Heaven 
would give me even more opportunities from now on."
	Wu Ting Yan participated in the Hong Kong Film Award for the first 
time.  Although she did not win Best New Actor she was not disappointed.  
instead she felt that the nomination already exceeded her expectation.  
"I am very happy to have a chance at the first nomination, to be able to 
participate in a Hong Kong film industry event.  I have watched the 
award show since childhood, I never imagined that I would be a part of 
it.  It's already very memorable."  Ting Yan said that she would remember 
the red carpet experience for the rest of her life.  Because of the rain 
halfway through her dress was already half wet.  She even felt like she 
was kicking up water.  "The most regrettable was Brother Chun Yu didn't 
come, but I stood in front of his billboard for a photo.  At first I 
just wanted to get on this boat for the view.  My first series was with 
Brother Chun Yu, my movie was with him again.  I really am very grateful.  
He opened this door for me, he is my benefactor."  Ting Yan said that she 
was not in a hurry to enter the film industry, as she would take one step 
at a time.  She would introduce herself to different producers and film 
companies.  Have her sisters comforted her yet?  Ting Yan said, "No, they 
were very happy for me when they learned about the nomination.  They only 
said to me I just have to be pretty."
	With three nominations, Yu Heung Yi went home empty handed.  
During her performance she almost had a wardrobe malfunction.  She said, 
"I kept saying to myself not to have a mishap on the stage, not to dance 
the wrong step, not to sing off key.  In the end nothing happened except 
the wardrobe malfunction." Yu Heung Yi said that she did not know 
something happened when she was on the stage.  After she left the stage 
someone told her about the mishap.  She said, "Actually the dress was 
very tight, but I haven't tried wearing a headset with this dress.  Maybe 
I was too tense and breathed too hard.  Luckily I have tape, otherwise 
it would be really embarrassing.  This time would be an experience for 
me, next time I would make even better preparations."

* (2019/04/16) After the 38th Hong Kong Film Awards ended, the fresh out 
of the oven Best Actor Anthony Wong Chau Sun and Best Actress Chloe 
Maayan went to two celebrations.  The third time Hong Kong Film Award Best 
Actor Chau Sun admitted that he could not be happier with this award.  He 
felt that actually he had the support of many friends, only that because 
he went out less so he thought he had few friends.  "I feel like Rocky 
getting to his victory in the end, but people have to be more humble.  
This time is the effort of the director and everyone in the crew to make 
the entire thing happen."
	Would he continue to make movies for no salary after the award?  
Chau Sun joked, "Jinx, of course everyone will get rich and everyone will 
get paid!  I just talked about government financial assistance for film 
production.  Although HK$ 3 million isn't enough, I haven't been paid 
yet.  I want the movie to make a little so I would get paid!"  He already 
had the award in his hands.  Chau Sun said, "I would sell the award to 
you, eating is very important.  I don't ask for much, it's not like I 
live in Repulse Bay and drive a Lamborghini!"  How would he reward 
himself?  He said that many friends have already asked him to dinner to 
celebrate, but he would be busy with work.  Soon he will head to Italy 
for the Udine Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award.  Then he will 
fly to Australia to visit family.  After returning to Hong Kong he will 
rehearse for a play.
	Chau Sun also said that lately he has watched many short films 
and realized that lately Hong Kong had many good movies with new ideas.  
Speaking of Andy Lau Tak Wa welcoming anyone to ask him to invest in 
movies, Wa Jai joked that he could play the STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) 
role as well -- except he would lose to Chau Sun.  Chau Sun said, "If he 
even worked on STILL HUMAN what would I work on?  Tell him to make CONTACT 
PERSON (LUEN LOK YUN) for me!"  
	Chloe Maayan won the grand slam of Best Actress with the Hong 
Kong Film Award.  She sincerely said, "Thank you Hong Kong!  Thank you 
Hong Kong Film Award for the encouragement.  I will remember to be a good 
actor, as I feel that I am not good enough yet.  I will keep working hard."  
How would she celebrate?  "I have to think about it!  Probably dinner 
with Mommy.  I want to have roast pork bun and soup dumpling."
	When PROJECT GUTENBERG was released it was already accused of 
plagiarism.  The controversy surfaced again when this film became the big 
Hong Kong Film Award winner.  Chong Man Keung responded to the online 
accusations.  "I can't do anything about that, it's not my decision.  It 
came from voting.  I don't know how it can be fairer.  It's beyond my 
control."  Was he upset because of the voice of dissent?  He said, "At 
this point, it's more than what I got.  The movie had such good box 
office and even won awards.  I can't concern myself too much with the 
rest, I don't get to anyway.  Some also accused Chan Siu Kuen's STILL 
HUMAN of copying a French film.  If you care too much you can't make a 
movie anymore.  PROJECT GUTENBERG has stuff to watch, not just one 
thing to watch.  There are hundreds of transgender films, are you going 
to accuse them of plagiarism too?  It's beyond your control.  The times 
are different, people have the right to write stuff but you can't care 
too much about it."

* (2019/04/16) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan yesterday attended a Heep Hong 
Society's Big and Little Chef event press conference and brought public 
attention to special need children.  Sister Mo even decorated cakes with 
children.
	Sister Mo two nights ago attended the Hong Kong Film Award and 
online comments claimed that she was ten years young and looked like 
Nancy Wu Ting Yan.  Sister Mo happily said, "If I looked like Wu Ting Yan 
then I would be younger more than just ten years.  I have to thank the 
make up artist and the hairstylist, and the clothing, it was a team 
effort to turn me into another fresh and clean image."  Sister Mo 
presented Best Actress with Nina Paw Hee Ching and Kara Wai Ying Hung.  
Their great exchanges brought the show to its climax.  Sister Mo said, 
"I changed the script a little.  Originally I wanted to make big changes, 
but Chair Yee Tung Sing reminded us not to make excessive changes.  
Because they had to coordinate with sign language and translation, big 
changes would be hard to follow.  Thus he asked me not to improvise too 
outrageously.  I could only make some minor changes to the script."
	"I have to praise Hong Kong Film Award Chair Yee Tung Sing, the 
pace of the show was very smooth.  He personally trained 32 young new 
comers to host and perform.  At first I was worried that they would have 
stage fright.  Although they were a little nervous they did very well.  
They didn't disappoint us.  Seeing this group of newcomers, I felt Hong 
Kong film industry has hope."
	As for Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin not winning the Hong Kong Film 
Award Best Actress, Sister Mo said that everyone was a little 
disappointed.  She saw THE LADY IMPROPER (FEI FUN SHOOK NUI).  Ah Sa 
was an actress who put a lot of heart into her performance, but her 
opponent Chloe Maayan was too strong.  She told Ah Sa to keep working 
hard, not to give up.  She would only need one more chance to win.  "The 
most important is to have a next time, she would win it in the end.  I am 
a good example, I have lost with all my past nominations.  Years later I 
finally won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress.  When I sat next to Ah 
Sa I said the same thing to her."

* (2019/04/15) The Anthony Wong Chau Sun starred film STILL HUMAN (LUN 
LOK YUN) officially opened on the 11th.  Aside from nonstop promotional 
events he also made online calls for public support in hopes of motivating 
the box office performance.  Two nights ago he, director Oliver Chan Siu 
Kuen and producer Fruit Chan Gor met with Baptist University students and 
shared their production experience.  Chau Sun and Siu Kuen both received 
school memorabilia.  Siu Kuen was a 2015 Baptist University graduate so 
this form had an extra sense of familiarity for her.
	The Baptist U speaker praised them.  "Siu Kuen was able to make 
a screenplay that touches Hong Kong people, with Chau Sun's god class 
acting they made a perfect demonstration.  We look forward to this film 
being able to compete for the Best Foreign Film Oscar next year."  Siu 
Kuen shared that when she was studying at the Baptist University she was 
working part time as an assistant at the Screenwriters Guild and thus 
met many screenwriter veterans, which was very helpful to her.  At the 
same time she also was active in different competitions to gain 
experience.
	Chau Sun jokingly taught students about preparation for getting 
into a show business career, with skin care, exercise and no gossip.  
The lack of boyfriend would be the most suitable and make getting into 
the business easier.
	As of two days ago STILL HUMAN accumulated over HK$ 1 million at 
the box office.  Chau Sun hoped to win word of mouth as well as box 
office and urged the public to support the film.  He half jokingly said, 
"I am waiting for the bonus, I only get to eat when I get it.  Any Hong 
Kong Film Award win will more or less help the film's box office."  Siu 
Kuen added that even with no award she would force anything.

* (2019/04/15) The 38th Hong Kong Film Awards took place last night at 
the Hong Kong Cultural Center.  With 17 nominations, PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO 
SEUNG) won seven awards and became the big winner.  They included three 
major awards in Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay. Anthony Wong 
Chau Sun with STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) and Chloe Maayan with THREE 
HUSBANDS (SAM FU) won Best Actor and Best Actress; this year's Lifetime 
Achievement Award winner was Patrick Tse Yin (Sei Gor) for his 60 years 
in film.  Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor presented the award.
	Last night the award show opened with a salute to various 
film workers who have passed away, including Raymond Chow Man Wai, Ringo 
Lam Lan Tung, Yammie Nam Kit Ying, Elliot Ngok Wa, Ng Kwan Lai, Leung 
Ka Lun, Cheung Chung Man and others.  Then Andy Lau Tak Wa said, "Once 
ten thousand miles of mountain, kept two places distant, no need to see 
each other, you would know in your hearts.  All the remembrance in the 
world actually is for passing the torch, we Hong Kong film will keep 
rolling."
	With 60 years in the film industry, Tse Yin won this year's 
Lifetime Achievement Award.  Chief Executive Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor presented 
the award to him.  Dressed in white and sunglasses, Sei Gor appeared to 
a standing ovation.  Then he bowed to the audience and waved.  "Thank you 
everyone, I haven't seen you in awhile.  Because my age is up there, I 
will have to retire soon.  I am really very happy to see you again.  
Please feel free to ask me anything, I really have nothing to say.  I have 
been in this business for over 60 years, today I am very happy to see you 
again, I wish everyone happiness and good health!"  He also joked, "I 
think no one in the audience is as old as me (Someone responded in the 
audience) I am only 33, you just made me a few years older!  I hope to 
make more good movies for you in the future."  
Then the event invited Chief Executive Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor to present the 
award.  She said, "Sei Gor, the event invited me to present the award not 
because I am the Chief Executive, but because I grew up watching your 
movies."  Tse Yin reacted, "Then I must be so old!"  She continued, "I 
was very curious at the time at the movies, every movie had a 
different actress, but you were the only actor."  Sei Gor joked, "I don't 
know either, maybe at the time I was greedy.  I was out to make a living, 
I wanted money."  Lam Cheng congratulated him on his Lifetime Achievement 
Award and praised Sei Gor as truly deserving.
	Started as a screenwriter, director Felix Chong Man Keung won 
Best Director and Best Screenplay.  He said, "Back then when I was 
studying film, I discussed with my classmate what was directing.  They 
all said, 'thousands of bones make a moment of success'.  Thank you to 
PROJECT GUTENBERG's cast and crew, because without you I wouldn't be 
anything -- just a crazy guy!  Thank you bosses Yu Dong and Yeung Sau 
Sing for their support without any regard.  I also want to thank my 
wife, because she was the first person who thought that I would be 
successful in making movies."  PROJECT GUTENBERG won seven awards, 
including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, 
Best Film Editing, Best Art Direction and Best Costume and Make Up 
Design.  The event arranged for Andy Lau Tak Wa and Song Hye-Kyo to 
present Best Film.  PROJECT GUTENBERG investors Yu Dong and Yeung Sau 
Sing both thanked for the creative team for giving them the chance to 
invest in this film and thanked the Hong Kong Film Awards.
	This year's Best Actor went to Anthony Wong Chau Sun for STILL 
HUMAN (LUEN LOK YUN).  Chau Sun accepted the award from Louis Koo Tin 
Lok.  Chau Sun first put on his hat and said, "Actually miracles really 
do happen.  I am not talking about me, I am talking about the show.  At 
first I thought would young people as hosts put me to sleep?  Actually 
they have been very entertaining.  It's very meaningful, quite a honor to 
receive this award from the new generation film tycoon."  Goo Jai 
immediately put a stop to his praises.  "Enough."  Later Chau Sun also 
thanked director Oliver Chan Siu Kuen for her patience and talent, on the 
set she coaxed him like a child and reminded her to keep his toes curled.  
He also thanked actress Crisel Consunji in English.  He thanked everyone 
who voted for him, for letting him know that he could still act.  He 
also thanked those who did not vote for him, for letting him know that he 
still had shortcoming.  He thanked boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing for his 
financial support, so he was able to make this film without taking a cent.  
He urged everyone against following his suit because not everyone had a 
boss like Mr. Yeung.  If everyone worked for free, everyone would starve 
to death and there would be no more Hong Kong film.  However if anyone 
wanted to win an award they could give it a try, as good deeds yield good 
rewards.  Wong Chau Sun also thanked his wife, late mother and assistant.  
"Thank you Wife for tolerating a husband who is constantly missing; thank 
you late mother, she taught me that life is very short.  If you aren't 
happy then you are dumb."  Chau Sun was rather excited with the award 
backstage and got sentimental.  "Because I am old, I don't know if I 
will still be here next year!  I of course hope to be able to make more 
Hong Kong films after the award, but everyone know how my situation is."
	First time nominee Chloe Maayan with THREE HUSBANDS (SAM FU) won 
Best Actress.  "I am very happy, thank you Hong Kong Film Award for 
giving me a pair of glass slippers.  Thank you Mama for always supporting 
me.  I want to share that THREE HUSBANDS began production on April 1st 
last year.  Before then I have never been to Hong Kong, I didn't know 
going from Kowloon to Mandarin Oriental Hotel would require crossing the 
harbor.  That day was the anniversary of (Leslie) Cheung Kwok Wing's 
death.  I became encouraged from watching Gor Gor's movies, I want to 
thank Mr. Cheung Kwok Wing."
	Best Actress Kara Wai Ying Hung with her excellent acting 
in TRACEY (CHUI SZE) won Best Supporting Actress.  Ben Yuen Fu Wa also 
with TRACEY won Best Supporting Actor, as he tearfully thanked his 
girlfriend on the stage.
	Filipino actress Crisel Consunji with STILL HUMAN (LUEN LUN LOK)'s 
Filipino maid character won Best New Actor with her first nomination.  She 
said to director Oliver Chan Siu Kuen.  "You are great, I hope every child 
grow up to be just like you."  She said that she was very surprised and 
happy, as she hoped to continue to make movies in Hong Kong and even 
China.  She said that she has lived in Hong Kong for awhile already, 
employed at three educational centers to teach children.  Chan Siu Kuen 
after winning Best New Director said, "Thank you to First Feature Film 
Initiative for changing my life, thank you to my husband for being crazy 
with me.  I will keep working hard."
	GEN X COPS (DUT GAING SUN YUN LUI)'s Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, 
Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Stephen Fung Tak Lun and Sam Lee Chan Sam 
presented Best Visual Effects.  At first Ng Yin Cho and Tse Ting Fung 
pretended that they could not be there as they pretended to be overseas 
in front of green screens.  Then they made a surprise appearance.  The 
four said that in the brink of an eye 20 years went by and joked that 
visual effects were very sharp as they made them younger.  Ting Fung 
jokingly asked, "Then are we making GEN X COPS 3?"  Lee Chan Sam said, 
"Does anyone want to see it?"  Fung Tak Lun then asked, "Does any boss 
want to invest.  I see Mr. Yeung ."  Yeung Sau Sing nodded in the 
audience.  
	Winners of the award went OPERATION RED SEA's Inho 
Lee and Taegyun Kang.  In the audience film boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing 
was so happy that he raised his phone to shoot a video.  Later RED also 
won Best Sound Design, the winners were Nopawat Likitwong and Sarunyu 
Nurnsai.  They thanked boss Louis Koo Tin Lok in Cantonese.  The film 
also won Best Action Design.  The Professional Spirit award winner was Lau 
Won, who was the first stuntman to win this award.
	Kara Wai Ying Hung earlier at the Asian Film Awards already won 
Best Supporting Actress.  She said, "Thank you to the cast and the crew, 
actors and voters, I also have to thank myself.  If everyone take a 
look back, in the past few years I have been the actor who has been the 
most supportive on new directors because I am all about loyalty.  Hong 
Kong film has to be in full bloom.  With newcomers rising, how much we 
make isn't important.  I hope film can reach to when I first got into 
the business, over 400 productions a year with any and all variety of 
films and generations after generations of newcomers.  To be able to 
contribute is my honor.  We elders have to support the younger 
generation more."
	Winning again this time she said that she would 
have to celebrate.  After her "bikini" benefit, what else would she do?  
She said, "You have seen some places already, unless it's full nudity.  
However you saw that before in the photo collection, which is still 
available for purchase now.  Now even if I am all nude no one would look."
	Best Supporting Actor Ben Yuen Fu Wa said, "The Hong Kong Film 
Award to a Hong Kong actor is an emotional connection, an artistic 
honor.  I am very nervous.  Because I am a Hong Kong actor born and 
raised, I grew up with Hong Kong film and witnessed Hong Kong film 
getting bright and hot.  I want to become an actor also because of Hong 
Kong film.  Thank you for voting for me.  The Best Supporting Actor 
nominees in the audience are all elders and friends who toil in silence 
without complaint.  I want to take the chance to salute them.  I hope the 
bosses on hand would support more new subjects.  I also want to thank my 
girlfriend.  Without her, I couldn't get here."  
	Speaking of thanking his girlfriend on the stage, he said, 
"Actually being an actor is very tough, it's not the so-called have home, 
have care and would make a lot of money.  However she struggled along 
with me.  (Would marrying your girlfriend be the next step?)  You are 
asking for her, I won't fall for it.  I have to think about it first."
	Earlier he just won a stage actor award.  Would he work in 
multiple areas from now on?  He said, "I would take each step as it 
comes.  I am still just half a bucket of water in each area, I still have 
a lot of skills to learn."
	Dante Lam Chiu Yin with OPERATION RED SEA won Best Action 
Choreography.  Boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing accepted the award on his 
behalf.  Mr. Yeung said, "Lam Chiu Yin yesterday said that he would 
come, today he suddenly said that he couldn't.  I took we were done for, 
we definitely would go home empty handed.  Chair Yee Tung Sing, I trust 
Hong Kong Film Awards truly isn't predetermined."
	Stuntman Lau Wong (Yu Tau Won) won this year's Professional 
Spirit Award.  He accepted the award from guest presenters and brothers 
Chin Kar Lok and Chin Siu Ho.  Kar Lok even said that Lau Won's older 
brother is Pak Piao.  With over 50 years in the business Lau Won was 
somewhat emotional on the stage.  After thanking people he wanted to 
thank in one breath, he was already so nervous that he forgot what else 
he wanted to say.  Although Kar Lok dropped "hints", he hilariously said 
several times, "Let me think" and scratched his head.  He brought a lot 
of joy to the audience.  Then he would suddenly "remember".  "Stunt men, 
more alert than others, professional spirit!"  Finally he screamed "I 
love Hong Kong Film" and won everyone's applause!

* (2019/04/15) The 38th Hong Kong Film Awards took place last night at 
the Cultural Center in Tsim Sha Tsui.  Every year the red carpet would be 
star studded, the golden opportunity for female stars to vie for the 
spotlight.  Whether in fashion and jewelry they had to pull out all the 
stops to catch people's eyes.  Best Actress nominee Charlene Choi Cheuk 
Yin appeared in a rare super low cut look.  Veterans Miriam Yeung Chin Wa 
and Kara Wai Ying Hung appeared with grace and elegance.  Korean star Song 
Hye-Kyo made a mystery appearance and brought surprise to the red carpet.
	Due to the less than cooperative weather, the entire red carpet 
took place in the rain.  The event arranged for tents for the media and 
guests.  Chair Derek Yee Tung Sing led the Hong Kong Film Award board of 
directors in their entrance.  Yee Tung Sing said, "This year is more 
special in that we never had so much new comer participation as performers 
and hosts.  The past four years had 182 new actors, we have to give them 
a chance to see the world and experience the Hong Kong Film Award 
atmosphere."  He also revealed that this year 1,496 people voted, 
including overseas voters.  The voter turnout was over 60%.
	32 film industry newcomers followed on the red carpet.  Many new 
generation actresses Rose Chan Ka Wun, Jennifer Yu Heung Yi, Venus Wong 
Man Yik, Fish Liew Chi Yu added in the "fray" and heated up the venue.  
Chrissie Chau Sau Na said, "The dress was too big, but I thought it was 
pretty so I still wore it.  The accessories are worth the down payment 
on a home, in seven figures."  Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin said that her 
dress made her unable to breathe but she still had shredded pork rice with 
pork chop.  She said that the more she walked the dress felt.
	Best Supporting Actress nominee Kara Wai Ying was dressed in 
black with gold jewelry.  She looked graceful and elegant but the hem of 
her dress was all wet.  Sister Hung said, "The hem got wet, and I feel 
very cold, so I want to very quickly change into something with a 
turtleneck."  Sister Hung denied that the color scheme was in her lucky 
color, she chose it purely for its beauty.  As for her millions worth in 
accessories, they were already sold but later she borrowed them back to 
coordinate with her elegant side.
	Earlier rumored to have marital troubles, Song Hye-Kyo appeared 
without her diamond ring, and waved and smiled at everyone.  She revealed 
that she has signed with Wong Kar Wai.  They have worked together before, 
for now she has not confirmed any job but she very much looked forward to 
new jobs.  She would like to make a romance the most and hoped to have 
such a challenge.
	Andy Lau Tak Wa would present Best Film with Korean star Song 
Hye-Kyo.  Wa Jai felt that the event felt like a gathering of friends.  As 
for his "favorite", he said, "Everyone is a good friend, I don't know what 
to do.  This year I hope all 5 would win together.  This year has many 
inspirational films and new directors.  Aside from big productions it also 
has small productions, the feeling is both happy and warm.  Actually for 
new directors' MEN ON THE DRAGON and STILL HUMAN I would have been able to 
play those roles well."  Everyone asked if he wanted to play an uncle?  Wa 
Jai stated, "I have always been an uncle, which is very suitable for my 
age.  (You are too handsome.)  I have to tell Ng Chun Yu, but Uncles can 
be handsome too, haha!  I can play STILL HUMAN too."
	Best Actor favorite Anthony Wong Chau Sun and the STILL HUMAN 
(LUEN LOK YUN) team walked the Hong Kong Film Award red carpet together.  
When host Ursule Wong Yu Sze asked how he felt, Chau Sun joked, "The roads 
are slippery when wet, beware of sliding."  He seemed to be afraid of 
disappointment.  Did he have any prop with him?  He continued to joke, 
"Because of how slippery it is, I have to steadier footing!  (How 
confident are you?)  I haven't thought about that......it always leaves 
people speechless."
	This year the event worked with the Alliance for Children 
Development Rights and shot five stories with the theme "Children Have 
Dreams".  Participants Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Shawn Yue Man Lok appeared 
with the five featured children.  Chin Wa wore a deep cut dress, with a 
layer of lace for "protection".  No wonder she joked, "I can prop it up, 
but I am afraid it may slip off."  Chin Wa would be responsible for 
presenting Best Film of The Mainland and Taiwan and at the same time 
praised Yue Man Lok have become more loving and patient after becoming a 
father, for example he did not nag her about being late today.
	Janice Man Wing Shan wore a yellow dress.  The October bride to be 
accepted everyone's congratulation, but she said that the seven figure 
diamond ring on her hand was not her wedding ring.  Her wedding has been 
in preparation quietly.  She originally wanted to share the news with 
everyone later, as she did not expect the news to be leaked early.  She 
would also arranged for a wedding banquet in Hong Kong for her closest 
family and friends.  As for parenthood plan, she said that both she and 
her fiance were workaholics so they have not had any plan to have a baby 
yet.
	Venus Wong Yik Shun appeared with millions worth of jewelry, she 
felt added stress and tension from her provocative look.  She already 
covered herself in tape to prevent wardrobe malfunction and also sent 
photos to boyfriend Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung for him to look over.  He had 
no suggestion but did not forget to praise her for looking good in 
anything.  Wong Jing and "Jing Girl" Sabrina Qiu appeared together.

the Cultural center.  This year's guests will include Song Hye-Kyo, Sean 
Lau Ching Wan, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Kara Wai Ying Hung, 
Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, ONE CUT OF 
THE DEAD's Takayuki Hamatsu and Yuzuki Akiyama, Stephen Fung Tak Lun, 
Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Stephy Tang Lai Yun, Chin Siu Ho, Chin Kar Lok, 
Nina Paw Hee Ching, bride to be Janice Man Wing Shan and others.
	Yesterday the Hong Kong Film Award Association president Derek 
Yee Tung Sing along with the board of directors members and 32 new film 
actor guest hosts including Venus Wong Man Yik, Jennifer Yu Heung Yi, Ng 
Siu Hin, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, Ling Man Lung, Rose Chan Ka Wun, Fish Liew Chi 
Yu and Babyjohn Choi Hon Yik took part in the traditional stage 
vegetarian worship ceremony to pray for a smooth performance.  The Hong 
Kong Film Award Association recently noticed that tickets to the award 
shows were being sold online.  Yee Tung Sing reminded everyone that the 
Hong Kong Film Awards had no ticket sale for the public, anyone caught 
would be handed over to the police.  In his four years as the chair, he 
has seen something similar every year.  Once a crew member posted an 
admission pass online and was counterfeited, it has also been lost and 
stolen at the venue then resold.  "We worry about people being scammed.  
Because reportedly tickets for some handshake seats for concerts were 
speculated to HK$ 8,000 each, we took photos of some criminal exchanges 
for the police in hopes of stopping fake passes!"
	As the weather deteriorated, Siu Bo said that in the past the Hong 
Kong Film Awards has taken place in the rain.  In recent years the red 
carpet had tents, only hairstyles and clothing might be more troublesome.  
This year 32 young new actors would be guest hosts.  Siu Bo said, "In the 
past 4 years 80 new directors and 128 new actors have joined, soon we 
have to accept the new generation's takeover.  I am already in my 60s.  
This year whether the crew and actors are young, getting 32 new comers 
of different companies together is truly rare.  Thus the rehearsal 
requires all of them to attend.  At first we would worry that they would 
make mistakes, but newcomers have to see the world in the end.  In the 
audience are all colleagues, directors, producers and executive 
producers, it is the perfect time to put themselves on display."
	New actors like Chan Ka Wun, Yu Heung Yi and Liew Chi Yu will 
take place in the Hong Kong Film Award opening performance.  Chan Ka Wun 
said that they would sing and dance, but because of too many newcomers 
even the instructors got them confused.  As for whether the costumes 
would be sexy, Liew Chi Yu joked that she would be the sexiest one.  Best 
Actress nominee Yu Heung Yi said as the Hong Kong Film Awards gradually 
approached, "I am the most nervous about singing, luckily the event has 
given me time to rehearse.  Headmaster (Yee Tung Sing) told us that our 
performance will live on in history, even the outtakes will spread.  So 
we have to rehearse until we are at our best."
	Catherine Chau Ka Yi earlier posed with a fake Hong Kong Film 
Award.  Siu Bo said that the event would not punish her but reiterated 
that the Hong Kong Film Award was a registered trademark and could not be 
use casually.  He knew about Mainland sites that could replicate awards 
from around the world, most of the customers used them for private party 
purposes.

* (2019/04/13) Dior Cheng Yi Kin and Chrissie Chau Sau Na yesterday 
attended a mobile phone event.  Chau Sau Na's film HOTEL SOUL GOOD (NUI 
WONG JONG DOH JING) was chosen for the 21st Udine Far East Film Festival 
competition.  Sister Na said that the news was surprising and pleasant, 
because she did not know which competition the film would be in, she has 
not considered the Best Actress award.  She was already very happy with 
the selection.

* (2019/04/12) The film stuntman turned actor of the 70s and the 80s, 
veteran filmmaker Lam Man Wai earlier passed away due to illness.  He 
has made many classic television series and films like THE BUND and 
PROJECT A II.  The Hong Kong Stuntman Association vice president Cheung 
Lui mourned his friend.  "He and I have worked together on many films 
like ACES GO PLACES.  He was a close friend.  I just saw him last year.  
His health wasn't that great and he was very thin.  He said that due to 
pneumonia his body was weaker."  He represented the Association and 
consoled Lam Man Wai's family.  "President Chin Kar Lok knows about 
this, I also represented the Association and contacted his daughter to 
see if any assistance is needed.  She said for now she was OK.  We told 
her that if she needed anything in the future she could just ask."

* (2019/04/11) This year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor and Best 
Actress nominees earlier took photos for the program.  Best Actor 
nominees Chow Yun Fat, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Francis 
Ng Chun Yu, Philip Keung Ho Man all wore white in their own style.  

* (2019/04/11) Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Crisel Consunji, Cecilia Yip Tung, 
Sam Lee Chan Sam, Wong Ting HIm, director Oliver Chan Siu Kuen and 
producer Fruit Chan Gor two nights ago attended their film STILL HUMAN 
(LUEN LOK YUN)'s charity premiere.  Chau Sun was nominated for the Hong 
Kong Film Award Best Actor with this film, did he know what he would 
wear?  He said, "I made preparations.  If I attend I have to dress up, 
it's not like I am making category III films.  It's not THREE HUSBANDS 
(SAM FU).  (Did you already decide to attend?)  The chance is pretty 
high.  Earlier I thought about it, but friends told me not to be so 
immature.  However I was afraid of getting into trouble.  Instead of 
watching what I say, I might as well not go.  If I don't go then I don't 
have to talk.  Since I have everyone's respect and love, as well as 
popularity with the audience, I would go."  Was the Best Actor Award as 
good as in his pocket?  Chau Sun humbly said, "I have pressure too, but 
it doesn't come from the award.  The award isn't guaranteed to be mine.  
Everyone has a chance.  Chun Yu and Fat Gor have great chances too.  In 
addition I don't know what the voters' direction is now."  Has STILL 
brought him more job opportunities?  Chau Sun admitted that it has not.
	Lee Chan Sam with STILL HUMAN was nominated for the Hong Kong Film 
Award Best Supporting Actor.  As for his confidence, he said that he felt 
normal and praised his competition.  "Everyone is pretty good, I have 
seen all of the competition's movies.  Wong Tak Bun and Yuen Fu Wa gave 
me an impression that was very different from before.  Poon Chan Leung 
came from the stage, pretty humorous.  Each is special in his own way.  
No more needs to be said about Uncle Chi.  I am half confident, I would 
try to get into it like going to a party to see my friends."

	After screenings a film is edited again due to audience reaction, 
which is frequently seen in Hollywood.  Although Hong Kong in the past 
also had editing again or even reshoot after a late screening, the 
recently released, Tsang Tsui Shan directed and Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin 
starred THE LADY IMPROPER (FEI FUN SHOOK NUI)'s current release version 
and the advanced screening version that was used for film festivals or 
industry and film critic screenings last year have such a drastic 
difference.  It is very rare. - LAU WAI LAM
	This column is not a comparison of the two versions, I also would 
not dare to say which is the "director's cut".  This column as a film 
critique that discusses the "official release films" would try to base 
the discussion on THE LADY IMPROPER that everyone can see at the movies 
at this moment.
	Siu Man (Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin) is a gynecology medical 
personnel with sexual obstacle.  She cannot have sex, her husband 
retreats and they end up in a divorce.  Siu Man lost her mother years 
ago, father (Anthony Lau Wing) operates a cafe but as his sense of taste 
deteriorates, he can no longer make his trademark dishes.  After his 
stroke, Siu Man has to return to the cafe to hold down the force 
despite not knowing how to cook at all or ever enjoying her father's food.  
	At this time Ka Ho (Wu Kang-Jen), a mystery chef who came from 
France, applies for the job.  He joins the cafe because his favorite 
childhood dish at this shop was one of the trademark dish.  Ka Ho is not 
only a great cook but also seems to be a master in the bedroom.  Is he 
able to save the cafe and help Siu Man become a real woman?

Lacking Looks of Desire
	To many cinephiles, the most able to "the desire for food 
and sex" has to be the Juzo Itami directed TAMPOPO. The stories are also 
rather similar.  The Tsutomu Yamazaki played truck driver teaches a widow 
(Nobuko Miyamoto) who just took over a ramen shop but has no idea how to 
make ramen how to keep the shop going.
	Hong Kong has the Lee Chi Ngai directed MAGIC KITCHEN (MOR WAN 
CHU FONG) (starring Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Jerry Yan), which did not 
perfectly merge cooking with desire.  TVB series A TASTE OF LOVE (MEI MEI 
CHING YUEN) also had famous chef Lawrence Ng Kai Wa helping the kitchen 
novice Flora Chan Wai Shan with bringing a seafood restaurant back on 
track and setting of romantic spark.  Yet in terms of tone I feel the 
closest to THE LADY IMPROPER perhaps is the Yim Ho directed KITCHEN (NGOR 
OI CHU FONG), based on Banana Yoshimoto's novel.  Although the stories 
are different, indeed they spend a lot of time on food and sex.
	Choi Cheuk Yin several years ago also had a movie GANGSTER PAYDAY 
(DAI CHA FAN), the background of which is exactly the same old style cafe 
(fresh out of the oven bread and custard tarts by day, dishes by night).  
She played the boss lady, but the performance method was very similar to 
THE LADY IMPROPER.  Her main goal is not to be funny but also not mad, 
she is just dul.  I do not care whether she pole dances well or not, 
but I cannot tell her the changes at different levels, especially 
after getting sexual satisfaction.  However, this perhaps has to be with 
the all new editing.  More on that later.
	I appreciate Wu Kang-Jen's performance more.  He is able to 
perform the boldness of the "kitchen guy".  Few young Chinese actors 
are able to be as natural and direct with cooking bare hand.  More 
humorously, Wu Kang-Jen's hands perform better than his eyes or mouth in 
this film.  That includes his and "Ginger" (Ashina Kwok Yik Sum)'s 
intimate scene.
	As for the overall performance, I feel that this film lacks 
"looks" the most.  This is not just Choi Cheuk Yin, but the tension of 
the entire film is too focused on contacts of lips or bodies.  The 
exchange of desire between eyes are lacking.  I have this impression 
because in one scene Him (Alex Lam Tak Shun) is short on the bill, Siu 
Man tells him to pay next time. Him is very interested in Siu Man, Siu 
Man's point of view camera is only on Him's chest.  This scene is good 
but reminds me the lack of eye contact in the rest of the scenes.  Perhaps 
it is the aftermath of editing anew?

No To Sexual Conventions
	Please permit me to the minimum of spoilers as we discuss the sex 
of this film.  Whether watching the "previous version" or the release, I 
admire the director or the screenwriter for not being sloppy with this 
concept of "only with love is there sex".  In the current version an 
important change is made between Siu Man and Ka Ho's sexual relationship.
	I would not list what the difference is.  Ultimately what we see 
now expresses Siu Man after "opening her mind" to sex finally learns to 
appreciate food and nonvisual and unconscious sensory enjoyment.  This 
type of depiction is very obviously and typical the order reversal of 
"food and sex".  Not only it is usual for film but also in everyday life.  
In general the first half is eating and the second half is......this 
absolutely is not criticism but rather innovative.  Many Hong Kong people 
use the excuse of "you can die from not eating but not from the lack of 
sex" and take a negative attitude toward sexual boredom and sexual 
obstacle, like Siu Man they would not cry until they see the coffin.  
This type of negative attitude is also closely related to "only with love 
is there sex".  However it also reminds me that in THE LADY IMPROPER does 
not make the connection between Siu Man's sexual obstacle and her dull 
life.
	By the end of the film, viewers still cannot tell if she has 
examined her life.  Seemingly without sexual obstacle making her 
"divorced", her life would be perfect, like many Hong Kong people being 
satisfied with "getting off work on time, getting married and a home".  
In order to make domestic subject, more lives of Hong Kong people should 
be examined.  A film should linger back and forth between subjects like 
old buildings and housing estates, cafes, the disadvantaged, wasted 
elderly and youth.
	Actually the "previous version" is more like a commercial film, 
the release version instead is closer to an art film.  If the film company 
thinks that another cut would be suitable for the general public, I would 
feel it is completely wrong.  Because the difference is not just the ten 
or so minutes less in the release version, or when Siu Man and Ka Ho 
hooked up; instead it uses a very different narrative system, in the first 
30 minutes in particular.
	Many friends say it is "in tatters", which of course is when 
compared to the "previous version's" direct narrative.  To me though it 
turns a lot of the story "from line to points", without any regard for 
the tightly interconnected logic but would be enough to realize the 
various cause and effect of sexual obstacle.  This type of method probably 
is not difficult to art film viewers, but may be too much to ask for 
commercial film viewers.
	I agree with Marguerite Duras' view of film very much.  In 
general people would feel that editing cuts the film in pieces, but she 
points out that production is the one that cust the film in pieces.  
"Editing" turns the broken film into completion.  My understanding is 
production turns a film concept into something solid, but temporarily it 
is just a pile of loose material that would not turn into a solid 
concept until it is on the editing board.  The second viewing of THE LADY 
IMPROPER reminds me of this type of film philosophy; the problem is with 
one edit after another, whether the finished product still is the original 
concept only the director would know.

2. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 11 2019, THE WEEK IN FILM 
SHAZAM! MOTIVATES A RISE AT THE BOX OFFICE

	Last week the comic book film adaptation SHAZAM! arrived and 
increased Hong Kong's box office for the week as it made HK$ 36.57 
million, HK$ 11.74 million more than the week before.  The darkness of 
the light season finally has left.
	At the box office, SHAZAM! seized first place but still was unable 
to break HK$ 10 million.  In second place was the new release starring 
Louis Koo Tin Lok and Raymond Lam Fung, P STORM (P FUNG BO). The David Lam 
Tak Luk directed "anti corruption" series reached its fourth film and 
performed one better than the other.  Seemingly the fifth film was under 
preparation and would probably start production.  The previous week's 
first place family film DUMBO fell two places to third; the Korean hit 
EXTREME JOB came in fourth; the Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin's Hong Kong Film 
Award Best Actress nominated film THE LADY IMPROPER (FEI FUN SHOOK NUI) 
opened in fifth place.
	As for other new releases, horror film PET SEMATARY made HK$ 1.82 
million in seventh place; The Lebanese film EVERYBODY KNOWS made HK$ 
87,000 in eighteenth place.
	This week another film STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) will open.  This 
film was CreateHK and the Hong Kong Film Development Council's First 
Feature Film Initiative competition sponsored film and has already won 
many awards.  Last week it held advanced screenings, made HK$ 34,000 in 
twenty seventh place and accumulated HK$ 390,000.  The film has caught 
many viewers' attention.  Risen in the U.S., THE UPSIDE is a film about a 
handicapped white man and his black caretaker.  Coincidentally, this film 
has a similar idea as STILL HUMAN.  It opened in January in the U.S. and 
made US$ 107.85 million; the romance FIVE FEET APART already opened last 
month in the U.S. and made US$ 41.66 million; another science fiction 
film that opened early last month, CAPTIVE STATE made US$ 5.95 million; 
a simultaneous release with the U.S., BREAKTHROUGH will open this week.  
In addition, the Japanese mystery film 12 SUICIDAL TEENS and the Korean 
film INNOCENT WITNESS, as well as documentary film MCQUEEN will open this 
week as well.
	At the Mainland box office, P STORM has been mighty and took the 
top spot last week as it defeated the sieging SHAZAM!; the Indian film 
ANDHADHUM came in third.  All three new releases performed well.  The 
first place from the previous week SONG OF YOUTH fell three places to 
fourth; DUMBO dropped two spots to fifth place.
	As for other new films, the Lou Ye directed THE SHADOW PLAY made 
51.43 million RMB in sixth place.  The animated film FROG PRINCE 
ADVENTURES made 6.79 million RMB; the horror film FUNERAL WAKE made 2.19 
million RMB; the animated film FOUR WARRIORS: THE UNDERWORLD made 760,000 
RMB.
	At the U.S. box office, new Mainland director Sheng Qiu's 
SUBURBAN BIRDS opened on one screen and made US$ 3,000 in the seventy 
third place; film master King Hu (Wu Kam Chuen)'s classic film THE FATE OF 
LEE KHAN opened on one screen and made US$ 1,600 in the eighty fifth 
place.

MAKING A MOVIE IS LIKE BUILDING A HOUSE

	Lately many filmmakers have been discussing CAPHARNAUM as its 
director Nadine Labaki's narration technique and production skills awe 
them.  They are able to bring the audience to the vivid word of the 
protagonist.  The film resembles a documentary film, while the order is 
not too clear viewers are intrigued.  It is without the formula and the 
scars of most commercial films.  Then everyone started to discuss the 
creation of the screenplay.  Linear and nonlinear narration, conscious 
and unconscious thinking are worthy of being shared.  
	The so-called linear narration is very logical with cause and 
effect, but the audience is already used to watching it and expects it.  
Maybe only by reverse the order (reverse narration) or hiding the cause 
would the film have freshness.  Nonlinear narration sometimes to be 
jumping around, viewers would have to digest a little to understand what 
jumping from one event (unfinished) to another is trying to express, or 
what purpose it serves in the story.  Linear narration usually focuses on 
details and attract viewers with them to keep them watching.  Nonlinear 
narration requires the audience to think and has a risk of not being able 
to catch on.  The two methods are neither better nor worse, what is 
important is how familiar creators are with the worlds they created.  If 
they are not familiar enough telling a story nonlinearly would be hard.
	Aside from the order of events, another nuclear topic is how to 
create a story and a script.  From Asghar Farhadi (SEPARATION's 
director)'s interview, most films' problem is they are made too 
consciously.  Thus Farhadi teaches students he "pushes them forward into 
the unconscious."  He even stresses that it is not a teaching technique.
	We generally would ask a screen writer or a director what story 
they want to make?  What theme do they want to express?  Actually such 
questions is too early to ask before the script has been written.  
Farhadi's film is very well honed, the script is very tight.  When he 
starts to create his thinking is unconscious and unorganized.  When he 
finds a real story then he starts to put it together.  The first stage is 
also unconscious, somewhat sloppy and nonsensical.  Farhadi would fill 
the whiteboard with different color information stickers.  He would 
stick everything big and small on the board, each color represents a 
different meaning.  Red ones to be confirmed whether he wants them or not, 
while green ones have to stay.  Entering the second stage of organization 
he finally consciously organizes them then uses yellow stickers to put 
the information in a linear order.  He would keep thinking and spend a 
year to finish the script.
	Farhadi described a film structure to be the same as construction, 
if its foundation is poor then it would easily collapse.  Construction is 
like storytelling.  When you just step into a room, you do not know the 
full view.  Each room is also connected to each other.  At first it seems 
simple, when you go in you learn how complicated it is.  Farhadi's 
comparison is very accurate, to be able to put it in action is not

  Hank Zhu is a manager of a leading property agency. His three
  subordinates, Fish Ball, Robert and Chester, are both his close
  workmates as well as drinking buddies. There is a female manager in the
  company, Lara Tong, aka Sister Chili, whom they all dread. Lara is a
  diplomatic and charming lady. In a lot of social occasions, men are
  attracted to her like bees to honey, hence beating Hank's team to the
  punch.

  After stealing an important client from Hank, the boss announces Lara's
  promotion to Chief Executive Officer, heading up Hank's team. Having
  gained the upper hand, Lara constantly gives Hank’s team hard times.
  This drives Hank crazy.

  On the other hand, Lara's boyfriend Jason Wong breaks up with her as he
  can no longer stand her bossy and dominant character. Grieving her love,
  Lara gets herself drunk. She goes to the company’s rooftop by herself,
  and is ready to jump. There she chances upon Hank, who is also depressed
  and is ready to end his life. At that very moment, a thunderstorm hits
  and they are both struck by lightning.

  The two wake up in a hospital to find their bodies "switched". Being
  trapped inside Hank's body, Lara cannot even move. Hank tries to tell
  his three buddies and his wife what has happened, but they only think
  Lara is joking with them. Before he can figure out a way to swap their
  bodies back, Hank has decided to live Lara's life while in her body, and
  make the best out of everything. Hank even uses Lara’s identity to

  This film is based on the story of So Wa Wai, the medal-winning
  Paralympic athlete. It teaches audiences that even people who "lose on
  the starting line" can achieve victory as long as they persist.

  Soon after birth, Wai was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, which made him
  hard of hearing and even unable to walk normally. But under a strict
  training regimen from his mother, Wai eventually learned how to walk and
  was even invited into the Hong Kong Disabled Track and Field Team. Wai
  has participated in multiple Paralympic Games and won many gold medals.
  To this day, he is still the record holder for men’s 100-meter and
  200-meter at the Paralympics. For his achievements, he has earned the
  nickname "Wizard Boy".

  Wai wanted to be a full-time athlete, but due to his father's work
  injury, he chooses to become a courier instead to support his family. He
  tries to balance between work and training, but his mother begins to
  arrange ad appearances and paid appearances on his behalf. Soon, he
  falls out with Fong, his coach, for neglecting his training, and he
  begins to fight back against his mother’s control. At the 2008
  Paralympic Games, Wai finds himself under unprecedented pressure from
  the match and his fallout with his mother.

  Fortunately, Wai repaired his relationship with his mother, and he
  received encouragement from his father and fellow competitors before the
  match. In the end, he not only wins the race, but also sets a new world
  record for the men's 200-meter sprint. As he stands on the podium with
  pop hit "Boundless Sky" playing in the background, he finds himself
  filled with pride as all 90,000 people inside the Bird's Nest sing along
  with the song.

  But Wai actually has a more important motivation for winning the gold
  medal: Wai wants to share the gold medal with his mother, who didn't

[ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ]
  The narcotics team works hard day and night, but their performance
  remains at an all-time low, leading them to become the ugly duckling of
  the police department and potentially face dismantlement. Captain KO
  gets intel about an international drug deal and embarks on a risky
  undercover mission with his entire team. In order to establish
  around-the-clock and up-close-and-personal surveillance, the team takes
  over a rundown chicken joint across the street from the drug gang’s safe
  house. But things take an unexpected turn when Detective MA’s yet
  unrevealed culinary talents begins to shine, turning the chicken
  restaurant famous overnight. Should we chase chickens or criminals? When
  customers begin to flock in, undercover work gets pushed to the back
  burner so the detectives can focus on frying chicken. As a result, the
  team misses the big drug deal, even though it happens right under their
