Lam Yiu Sing and Ma Chi Wai did not work out to Cheung Ka Fai's level but in a short time they trained and suffered a lot. Lam Yiu Sing described that they were training like mad because from deciding to take the roles to the production start they only had half a month. Basically they trained from eight to ten hours a day. In the morning they did physical training, then afternoon work out at the gym and at night they had MMA training. The saddest part was everyday after the training they were very fit but soon they would return to form, after a month they finally showed results. During the perod they succumbed and cheated on their diets. Ma Chi Wai dropped from 175 to 155 pounds. Every meal was just steam eggs, chicken breast and vegetable. The chicken breast was so dry that he could not even swallow it. They suffered but could not go back on what they agreed to. They could only grind their teeth and tough it out. Ma Chi Wai and said that he would say to himself "You can do it" in front of the mirror and got through it that way. He learned not quitting was success. Struggling with will power everyday, Lam Yiu Sing said to himself that the muscles from the training was his. A man had to be muscular once in his life, not to mention that the film would linger on. In the future when we would be old he could proudly tell his grandchildren, "When I was young I was fit, I have a movie as proof." * (2019/03/26) Gillian Chung Yun Tung, Ling Man Lung, Candy Yu On On starred in the film adaptation of the hit internet novel MISSING (SUT JUNG). An off duty cop goes missing. The protagonist while hiking in Sai Kung stumbled across the "another world". The film poster and the trailer were released earlier. In the film Ah Gil's retired cop father vanished after going hiking alone. After many years she still has not given up her search. She in a conversation with a hiking expert realized that the "other world" was not someplace that existed on Earth. Thus she went to old housing estates, and the hills of Sai Kung to look for her father. Ah Gil said that the "other world" was very abstract so before the shoo she was worried about how to express the effects through visuals. Yet after watching the trailer she praised how impressive it was. Producer Ng Kin Hung praised new director Chiu Law Nei for the effort he put into creating the film atmosphere and camera use. The preparation before the shoot was done very well. * (2019/03/25) After the film MASTER Z: THE IP MAN LEGACY (IP MAN OI JUEN CHEUNG TIN CHI), Chrissie Chau Sau Na and Kevin Cheng Ka Wing worked together again on the film P STORM (P FUNG BO). In the film Sister Na played a witness and had many scene with the Independent Commission Against Corruption officer Ka Wing. The running in the heat and the sea scenes were the most memorable and the happiest for Sister Na. Sister Na and Ka Wing in the new film P STORM had a stadium running scene. The shoot took place in the summer, Ka Wing was all wet from running and had to take off his suit, but Sister Na said that it was not too bad. "Although we had a lot of running, gun fight and chase scenes, we even had scenes at sea, but maybe because I had a lot of fun and the film had many handsome actors I didn't feel bad at all. Haha! Instead I felt bad for the cinematographer. Because in this scene Ka Wing dragged me as we ran in the stadium, the cinematographer had to carry a camera and run with us. Not just for a part, but wherever we ran he had to run along side! When we shot the run we had to maintain a steady distance for the camera to focus." Sister Na said that during the shoot rain often came. When the rain stopped they fought for time for the shoot. Actually the script did not ask her to fall, but due to the wet ground she did. "Because the gun fire was very frightening, the feeling was very real and I really was very scared! I slipped and fell, that take was kept. At the time I even anxiously asked the team did they get it? He said yes, if not that fall wouldn't be worth it." Speaking of Lam Fung and Ka Wing's helicopter scene, Sister Na admitted that shoot inside the helicopter was difficult because the cockpit was too small. Although they rented an actual helicopter, due to time and money the team also made a full scale helicopter for the shoot. "Because the space was too small, how would we to capture the shot, show reaction and facial expression? We needed to rely on our own imagination to perform. Ka Wing was amazing though, in the story as the helicopter was about to take off he was knock off. He held onto the helicopter rack. I don't know how he twisted himself back up there. After I saw the trailer, I went wow, amazing!" * (2019/03/25) Asia's Most Influential Association's first 2019 Asia's Most Influential Award took place at the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Center. Simon Yam Tat Wa and Carina Lau Ka Wa received the Most Influential Film Actor and Actress awards, Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung and Alice Chan Wai received the Most Influential Television Series Actor and Actress awards, Nancy Sit Ka Yin and Michael Lai Siu Tin received the Most Influential Lifetime Achievement awards. Lee Kai Ming received the Most Influential award (Cantonese Opera). Yam Tat Wa felt that as an actor he had to be on many different media, which would be helpful to shaping and interpreting characters. He said, "For example when I went to a photography trip in Africa, local children threw rocks at me because they didn't like me taking photos. So I spent over a hour to communicate with them with sign language and played games with them to open up their hearts. The experience was very helpful to my acting later." Later he would promote the service dog film QUILL (SIU Q). Brother Wa admitted that he missed his co-star and even thought about switching it to raise at home, but then he thought he would owe the trainer and gave up the idea. Eva Lai Yin Shan and Au Shui Wai received the Most Influential Professional Actor Contribution awards. Sister Shan ran into her first on screen husband Pak Piao and boyfriend Suen Hing. They all were surprised how time flew and exchanged numbers to stay in touch, as they hoped to have a chance to work together again in the future. The film version of STEP INTO THE PAST, BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI), will soon start production. Au Shui Wai was a part of the show but said that he would not take part. The event invited female writer Cheuk Wan Chi to host. Ah Chi invited Ah Sa to review the film's three male leads. Ah Sa said, "Deep (Ng Ho Hong) was very nervous during the bed scene. He said that I was always a cousin to him. During the shoot he kept sweating, some of the shoot even had to be halted for him to wipe his sweat; Alex (Lam Tak Shun) is very funny, very suitable to play the otaku character. He practices yoga normally and his arms are very strong. He can hold the pole and go horizontal, has great potential to be a great pole dancer; Wu Kang-Jen is an actor with a lot of heart, he works very hard to learn Cantonese. For each scene he would communicate with me clearly. Love scenes are very hard to grasp. We were off one day but he still was willing to rehearse in the kitchen with me. He is very serious." THE LADY IMPROPER's cafe and kitchen locations were full of Hong Kong authenticity. Director Tsang Tsui Shan revealed, "We used several different sets, some of the old style cafes had millennial grease stain. My favorite was that type of greasy feeling." Ah Sa added, "The art director put a lot of oil on me and Kang-Jen so everyone would see that Siu Man and Ka Ho are both 'greasy'." As for the kitchen intimate scenes, Ah Sa revealed that a group of "uninvited guests" appeared. She said, "The director placed a cage of frogs and said that she hoped they would bring some liveliness. The cage was closed but for some reason a few would go missing everyday. In the end, only two were left!" Best Actress Yip Tung also recognized and agreed with Ah Sa's substance. "THE LADY IMPROPER's Siu Man isn't easy to play, the character is frowning all day and not too pleasing. Ah Sa is able to toss away her idol baggage and willing to accept new challenges. I definitely support her!" Actually Yip Tung was one of Ah Sa's idols. "I really like 'Pretty Girl Yip Tung', especially in the film WONDER WOMEN (SUN KEI LEUNG NUI HUP) and series THE HEAVEN SWORD AND DRAGON SABER (YI TIN TOH LUNG GEI). I even watched HEAVEN three times! To be able to work great actors is the biggest gain in my acting!" * (2019/03/25) Raymond Lam Fung, Kevin Cheng Ka Wing, Patrick Tam Yiu Man shared their new film P STORM (P FUNG BO) experience on a television interview. The film also had many handsome men like Louis Koo Tin Lok, Gordon Lam Ka Tung and Louis Cheung Kai Chung; but when talking about the most Chok one in the film, Ka Wing said that he had to be Ah Fung. "In that purple suit you really are very Chok!" The new father Ka Wing revealed that two years ago when he worked with Ah Tam on a musical he already wanted to be a father. Ka Wing even said that he did not know whether to laugh or to cry when his son Rafael Cheng Sing Yu inherited his personality. "My son has my temper, he is always moving and not cooperative. When you tell him to go east he goes west. I hope he would lose this temper!" Ah Fung and Goo Jai worked together again after eighteen years, Ah Fung was grateful to Goo Jai for giving him the chance and guidance. Always the good kiss, Ah Fung in the film played villains with Ah Tam and realized all the joy of playing bad. "This time really is my first attempt to play a villain. I said to Ah Tam actually playing the villain is so much fun!" Ah Fung and girlfriend Zhang Xinyue were often caught on dates, but Ah Fung rarely talked about his love life with the media. Ah Fung explained, "A movie has so many people on and off camera and spends so many months to make, then when we are promoting it, if the focus is on my personal life, I feel I am unprofessional!" In the end Ah Fung stressed that when he would become a father he would very gladly share his family life with everyone. * (2019/03/23) The Hong Kong Film Awards last year added the HKFA Caring Partner project. In the film Wa Jai played a music conductor. He said that he was a conductor as well. "This time I led a group of newcomers. At the time she was very afraid and looked for places to hide. Did she calm down after the shoot? She said, "Normally I would have a lot of fun when I went out. After the argument scene Kwan Lai Kit and I would look at each other and smile, but for the ones with just the camera, recovering from the emotions was a little harder." Kwan Lai Kit pointed out that Chun Mui was catching her breath after the emotional scenes. Chun Mui admitted that during the shoot she was pretty upset. Which scene upset her in the film, the ones with the child or the man? She said, "A little bit of everything, looking back at the time I was just having a release in front of the camera. Elaine Lok Yi Ling said that this year Shaw would enter its 61st year and continue to bring together filmmakers new and old to make good movies. She hoped that everyone would not forget where they came from. She was the most touched when earlier Aaron Kwok Fu Sing said that he made I'M LIVIN' IT because it was a Hong Kong film. He spoke for filmmakers' passion and love for Hong Kong film. After she heard it she saluted. LINE WALKER had many scenes from Spain and Myanmar. Producer Lau Wai Keung revealed that Myanmar opened up for a foreign film production for the first time. Shooting the Running of the Bulls in Spain was also full of difficulties. He and Ms. Lok invited Koo Tin Lok to the stage and kept thanking him. Lau Wai Keung said that the film was only completed after Goo Jai became the Best Actor, because the film secretly had to have three Best Actor Koo Tin Lok, Cheung Ka Fai and Ng Chun Yu in order to start production. Only Sam Gor Michael Miu Kiu Wai said that he got a promotion in the show. Producer Cha Chuen Yi complained about how difficult applying for explosion scenes was. "Requiring application is very reasonable, but the approval is very tricky. On one hand the police public relations department already gave approval, but the district did not. I hope the authorities would take a look and give filmmakers a little less restriction." Shaw Brothers aside from its own production would also work with Wong Jing, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Wong Cho Lam's companies and at the same time announced that Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui would be its first acting executive officer. It would form the "Show 8" internet interactive platform to provide acting training to newcomers who are interested in show business. In the FLYING TIGER promotional film Yu Heung Yi forced a kiss on Ng Cheuk Hei. He explained that in the series he and Yu grew up together but he liked Cai Jie, while Yu Heung Yi liked him. Yu Heung Yi said that kissing him felt like a dream because she grew up watching him in THE ACADEMY. Ng Cheuk Hei reacted, "Our age are pretty close, that's exactly what I don't want to hear. I don't dare to say that to Sam Gor. I just watched THE FEARLESS DUO, I wouldn't say that I watched it when I was little." Wong Chung Chak helped his friend in condemning Yu Heung Yi for the "lack of culture". "We are at fault for not teaching her, maybe she doesn't even have any idea who Sam Gor is." Wong Chung Chak reportedly bought four homes in Malaysia. He clarified, "I was just at a meeting there and happened to look at the property. I haven't bought anything yet as I am still considering them. Ma taught me that buying bricks is the most stable." Wong Chung Chak revealed that he already have properties in Malaysia, the Mainland and Hong Kong, mainly for investment and rental. Yu Heung Yi and Cai Jie in the film had kiss scenes with Ng Cheuk Hei. Yu Heung Yi said that actually she forced a kiss on him and thought that it was like a dream, because she grew up watching him in THE ACADEMY. She never thought that now she could kiss him. Aside from the intimate scene, Yu Heung Yi also fired a gun for the first time. Unfortunately she did not put cotton balls in her eyes to protect them, thus after the shot her ears were ringing and she needed a month to recover. Cai Jai said that she was very nervous so before firing the gun she filled her ears with cotton. She was very happy that this character would not be as dark as her previous ones, and would have a romance. "Television Best Actor" Ma Tak Chung was honored to work with three Best Actors Louis Koo Tin Lok, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Francis Ng Chun Yu in LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH). Playing the police commissioner was a dream come true for him. He hoped to have the chance to develop in film and to take part in FLYING TIGERS III. Would his son Ma Choi Yeung also join Shaw? Ma Tak Chung said that he was only helping him field jobs for now. Because his son has not finished his education, he would only return to Hong Kong for work. Speaking of Hong Kong swimming athlete Kenneth To King Him's collapse after training in the U.S., Ma Tak Chung hoped that everyone would pay more attention to sport injuries. He said that his son was a swimmer too and once trained with To King Him in Australia. He thought To was very strong. He hoped everyone should have scheduled check up and pay attention to their health. Officially signing with Shaw earlier, Fong Lik Sun also showed his support. He said that after working on I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE! (NEI MAI LEI, NGOR OI NEI!) he talked with Ms. Lok again. He felt that in the past few years he took jobs on his own without a manager, which felt like that he did not have a home in Hong Kong. Many people saw that he was teaching swimming and holding art exhibits and thought that he changed jobs. He said, "Actually acting is my real career, teaching swimming is just an interest." Did he sign with Shaw for an astronomical price? Siu Fong said that he was no longer young and would not sign for more than 5 years. He did not negotiate the price either because he and Ms. Lok got along very well. "I am not in need of money, the most important is opportunity. The contract has no special demand. We are about trust. I hope to have a chance to work on action films, I hope to have a part in FLYING TIGER III." Siu Fong said that in the past the audience knew him from romantic films. He hoped to try other characters to show people his growth. * (2019/03/21) Alex Fong Chung Shun, Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Justin Cheung Kin Sing, Jeana Ho Pui Yu and Himmy Wong Ting Him yesterday attended their film THE ATTORNEY (YUT CUP JUI HUNG)'s Hong Kong International Film and Television Market press conference. In the film Fong Chung Shun and Ah Tam would play lawyers at court. Having worked with each other many times they were very friendly off scream and both have birthdays in March. Speaking of working together again, Ah Tam said that Fong Chung Shun since having a child turned from being cool and chok before to easy going and friendly. Ah Tam also revealed that they worked together on PTU and Fong even ironed his hat for him. He thought Fong was very interesting and an aestheticist. Fong Chung Shun pointed out that Ah Tam was introverted and warmed up to people slowly. Turning 50 two days ago (on the 19th), Ah Tam revealed that after work that day he returned home to cut the cake. Earlier his family took him to a buffet. His children drew birthday cards for him and he felt very happy. Although he officially "entered 5", Ah Tam fearlessly said, "Men at 50 are like flowers." With his birthday on the 17th, Fong Chung Shun said that he celebrated his 56th birthday with his family at dinner. Earlier Fat Soh very thoughtfully bought a birthday cake to celebrate in advance. What did his daughter give him? He complained that his ten year old daughter would not put any thought into her gift and would give the standard every year. "Every year she just draws a picture, with the words Happy Birthday and a drawing of the car brand that I like as a gift. (Did you forget to get her any money?) I gave and it was still like this, I didn't even get a kiss." Ah Tam said that his 8 year old daughter kissed him and would not let go. Fong Chung Shun said that he felt very hurt just from hearing that, but he did not dare to kiss his daughter because he was afraid that frightening her into not liking guys. Although he thought her gift was standard, he joked that it was better than giving him a grandson. Then he would be terrified. * (2019/03/21) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Karena Lam Ka Yun, Isabella Leong Lok Si, Korean artist Doona Bae, Juno Mak Chun Lung and others last night attended an event. Leong Lok Si due to an eye ailment had to wear sunglasses. She revealed that due to a left eye infection she would have a small operation on Friday. Now she would keep blinking, luckily her work has not been affected. Her co-production film has been slated for a May production start. As Louis Koo Tin Lok prepared to invest on the production of STORM CLOUD (FUNG WON), Kwok Fu Sing's manager Siu Mei admitted that they have been contacted. Sing Sing said that he would decide depending on the script and would very gladly work with any actor. * (2019/03/21) Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Cecilia Yip Tung and director Tsang Tsui Shan yesterday attended their film THE LADY IMPROPER (FEI FUN SHOOK NUI)'s school event. Yip Tung praised Ah Sa's great performance as she could toss away her pretty girl baggage. In addition she gave a very solid performance of this character. The character could be played very superficially but Ah Sa controlled it very well. Ah Sa joked, "Because I am not a pretty girl." * (2019/03/21) Busy with the production on THE RESCUE (GUNG GUP GAU WOON), director Dante Lam Chiu Yin two days ago was surprised and shocked to hear about the collapse and death of Hong Kong swimming athlete Kenneth To King Him while training in the U.S. He kept asking reporters when it happened. Because his new film would involve a lot of water scenes and at the end of the month the team would head to Mexico to shoot them, Director Lam reminded his actors to be very careful. Lam Chiu Yin said, "Because the film would involve water scenes, I already told the actors not to act tough. If they don't feel well they should speak up and stop for a break. Although they have been trained before hand and instructors would be present, each person's body quality would be different. Now tragedy has occurred, I would have to adjust the shoot schedule everyday again. Instead of just shooting one actor, I would split the actors up to shoot and take all the precautions." TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 21 2019, LIGHT SHADOW PATH SCREENWRITERS' GUILD AWARD DOES SOMETHING NEW http://www.takungpao.com.hk/231106/2019/0321/265152.html This year the Screenwriters' Guild awards were very cheerful and widely covered, the main reason was that director Wong Kar Wai received a honorary award. The last two winners were Michael Hui Koon Man (the silver anniversary award) and Ni Hong. This award could be considered as the screenwriting world's lifetime achievement award. In addition, the industry was very concerned with the recommended screenplay of the year award (seen as a Hong Kong Film Award index). The competition was fierce and the two winning screenwriting teams were particularly meaningful. The Screenwriters' Guild this year added a male and female Best Character Performance Award, which was rather new. Hong Kong has many directors, but few are writer directors because writer director must know how to write a screenplay. Wong Kar Wai is one of them. Hong Kong has many very classic films, but only Wong Kar Wai is a director whose almost everyone film is a classic. He started as a screenwriter, his films are internationally renowned. Actually when he started the commercial films he wrote were very entertaining. Direcor Wong has been known for taking his time to make his movies good, but veteran screenwriters know early in his career he was able to write several scripts in a year. Reportedly the fastest was finished within two weeks (Later Wong said that was CHUNG KING EXPRESS). In terms of quantity of worshippers, scholars and imitators, Wong Kar Wai would be on top. For a period, in screenwriting student exercises, the street number, license plate, identification card, officer numbers were all 2046. The influence of Wong Kar Wai indeed has become a phenomenon. His award is truly deserved. This year's recommended screenplay awards went to the Oliver Chan Siu Kuen written (and directed) STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) and the Felix Chong Man Keung written (and directed) PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG). Chong Man Keung is a veteran screenwriter, while Chan Siu Kuen once was the Screenwriters' Guild course student and director. The feeling of passing the torch was very strong and worth to be happy about. The Best Character Performance Awards went to STILL HUMAN's Anthony Wong Chau Sun and THREE HUSBANDS (SAM FU)'s Chloe Maayan. Some do not understand why the Screenwriters' Guild would present this award, everyone could get an idea from Wong Chau Sun's speech. He said, "I am very happy to receive this award because it isn't a Best Actor award. Best Actor sometimes does not know what is good about him, whether he performed well or he was charming enough? This Best Character Performance Award is very clear......" Indeed, some actors have certain level of acting abilities and have a lot of star charm, making them actually playing themselves no matter what characters they play. They also rather entertaining but they are not performing the character. Once, this writer asked a certain director why he would put the well known interests of that actor into the film character. Did he want the audience get into the character or the actor himself? He said, "I understand what you mean, but that was what the actor asks for." Obviously, that actor had limited understanding of drama and character and probably would have no connection to the Best Character Performance Award. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] ELISA'S DAY Can : Wai Oi Lit : Leftover Love AKA : Chong Hoi Wai Oi AKA : Love Left At Sea d.
