* (2019/01/30) Wong Cho Lam has joy upon joy, with two "babies" on the 
way.  His daughter with wife Leanne Li Yanan, Gabrielle, was born in 
December last year, while his directing debut Lunar New Year film I LOVE 
YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE (NEI MAI LEI, NGOR OI NEI) will open 
soon.  Wong Cho Lam directed for the first time a musical and said that 
he finished it with limited time, budget and personnel.  Luckily he had 
almost 60 actors, each one was very famous.  They rehearsed and recorded 
the songs before the shoot, which went very smoothly.
	Wong Cho Lam's directing debut I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW 
CHANGE is a rare musical among Hong Kong films.  Cho Lam invited almost 60 
actors to perform.  Although Alex Fong Chung Shun only guest starred in 
one vignette he did not slack off.  Before hand he studied dance with an 
instructor and took two days to record the song.  Siu Fong said, "Even as 
a guest star I still have to perform my best.  When the audience notices 
my character I benefit too.  However, as a singer I usually sing love 
songs, this time is a musical.  They are two completely different 
matters.  The voice has to be higher and stronger, and the singing has to 
be dramatic."  Wong Cho Lam said that Ivana Wong Yuen Chi also praised Siu 
Fong's singing.
	Has this year been particularly happy for Cho Lam, with his wife 
giving birth to his daughter and his directing debut about to open?  Cho 
Lam said, "It's very simple, I hope that my daughter would bring luck to 
the film at the box office.  Then I will be able to tell her in the 
future, 'Do you know what happened when you were born?  Papa broke the 
record, the Hong Kong musical film box office record because there was no 
musical film'."
	Wong Cho Lam praised Siu Fong's comedic sense.  Even Eric Tsang 
Chi Wai and many actors praised Siu Fong after watching the film.  Siu 
Fong said, "I am surprised by all the attention."  Cho Lam said that Siu 
Fong was very funny normally, funnier than him.  Only that he made mostly 
romantic films before, no one discovered his knack of comedy.  Would Siu 
Fong make more comedy?  He said, "I don't mind, but I won't deliberately 
choose drama or crying scenes for recognition that I can act.  I 
absolutely won't; actually I am very afraid of those films, because I am 
an optimistic person I don't want to be so heavy.  I have played many boy 
next door character, which can have different interpretations.  I don't 
feel that knowing how to cry means I am a good actor."  Cho Lam called in 
all the favors and joked that he would have to spend a lifetime to return 
them.  How would Siu Fong want Cho Lam to repay him?  He said no need, 
friends did not need to go and forth with favors.  Would Cho Lam introduce 
girls to Siu Fong?  Cho Lam said fine, his wife has many sisters.  
Although many are married, some still are not.  He joked that his daughter 
was fine too.
	Was the still single Siu Fong envious of Cho Lam being married 
and with child?  He said, "To each its own, avoiding giving lai see is a 
positive."  Cho Lam said that after years of giving away lai see this year 
he finally would get some back.  Would Siu Fong catch up?  Siu Fong said, 
"I can't, once behind I will always be behind."  Cho Lam told him to join 
his company, which has been very lucky with babes as two of his assistants 
were pregnant and Eliza Sam Lai Heung was as soon as she joined.  He 
joked that even without the other half he still would be able to naturally 
procreate.
	This Lunar New Year Cho Lam would be busy with audience 
appreciation events at the movies, then he would visit Japan with his 
wife Li Yanan.  "Every year the wedding anniversary would be Valentine's 
Day.  Yanan just finished her maternity break so we would go on 
vacation ourselves.  I want to try for a (Year of the) pig boy or girl, 
but because of cesarean Yanan would rest for half a year before we try 
again.  Two children would be better, but then I would be out of the 
picture even more.  Yanan used to love to take selfies, now everyday she 
would only shoot our daughter."  Siu Fong said that he would visit 
family in Beijing with his parents.  "The family tradition is to have 
vegetarian dumplings on the Lunar New Year's Eve.  After midnight when 
you hear firecrackers then you can have meat dumplings."  
	In order to make the 12 "stories of love" perfect, Cho Lam not 
only coaxed Tsang Chi Wai to sing bu also "broke out of Hong Kong" and 
asked RUNNING MAN host Zheng Kai and Korean T-ara's former lead vocalist 
Melody Park So-yeon to guest star in a "scene within a scene".
	Although Zheng Kai and Park So-yeon had a language barrier and 
only guest starred in a dozen or so seconds of scene within a scene, no 
one dared to slack off.  Zheng Kai in order to achieve "the best 
communication" with Park So-yeon learned all the Korean version of his 
lines under the guidance of So-yeon and the translator.  Zheng Kai had 
great ability to learn, as he only took a few minutes to be fluent with 
the lines and surprised the team and So-yeon.  The shoot also went very 
smoothly.  Cho Lam said that he already knew about Zheng Kai's shocking 
knack for language.  When he shot RUNNING MAN he often pretended to speak 
Korean.  Although he was just messing around, the feeling was very real.  
Thus this time for the scene within a scene based on the Korean tragedy 
drama ENDLESS LOVE, Cho Lam thought of Zheng Kai right away.  "He really 
is very sharp.  Not only did he have to learn Korean on the spot but also 
truly able to act.  Although all of the team including me had a very 
tough time with 'steaming crabs' (holding back laughter) when we heard 
him breathlessly spoke Korean, Zheng Kai remained unaffected and was even 
able to shed real tears."  In addition, Cho Lam praised So-yeon for being 
pretty and friendly, a very photogenic person with a knack for acting.  
He hoped that everyone would have a chance to work together again.
	Speaking of Zheng Kai's comedy secret, it was actually being 
"serious".  He said, "To me, comedy is the more serious you are the funnier 
you are.  Actually this is my first time acting in Korean, which I feel 
it rather interesting and funny.  (The whole set feels you speak 
convincingly because you have a knack of language?)  Actually I only know 
the general usage, I can't completely deliver a line.  So it is completely 
due to the onset Korean teacher's great lessons."  As for first time 
director Cho Lam, Zheng Kai said, "His musical film is very creative, 
currently on the market musical films are very few.  Maybe he would be 
able to pave way for it.  I am very supportive of him."  So-yeon said 
that her first Hong Kong film production was very interesting.  When she 
learned that it was Cho Lam's directing debut she was very surprised.  She 
said, "He really knows what he wants, the production time is also grasped 
very well.  He gives us great direction too.  Zheng Kai is really 
amazing.  Although the feeling of the performance is sorrow and very 
serious, I don't know why the energy from it is very funny.  Honestly, 
when I act with him I really have a hard time with keeping myself from 
laughing.  To me it is a huge challenge as well."

* (2019/01/30) The Emperor Lunar New Year film INTEGRITY (LIM JING FUNG 
WON YIN MOK) will open on February 5th, the Lunar New Year's Day.  The 
Mainland promotional tour earlier split into two, as director Alan Mak Siu 
Fai and Best Actor Sean Lau Ching Wan reached Xiamen while Nick Cheung Ka 
Fai and Karena Lam Ka Yun appeared in Jiangmen.
	Director Mak Siu Fai landed in Xiamen with Best Actor Lau Ching 
Wan to the enthusiastic cheer of fans.  They were excited as well as they 
personally gave away special edition gifts.  In the end they also gave 
away couplets and wished fans an advanced Happy New Year.  Ching Wan's 
fans successfully caught Ching Wan's eyes with the banner "ageless god 
Lau Ching Wan, give me glimpse if you can".
	Cheung Ka Fai and Lam Ka Yun's promotion was just as passionate 
as fans and onlookers filled the entire venue.   On the stage they shared 
their production experience.  Ka Yun mentioned that she personally 
performed the car stunt in Australia.  Professional and calm throughout, 
she actually fooled everyone with her acting.  After the cameras stopped 
rolling she was still out of it and needed tea to settle down.

* (2019/01/30) The Stephen Chow Sing Chi Lunar New Year film NEW KING OF 
COMEDY (SUN HEI KET JI WONG) yesterday released its trailer.  This time 
instead of being nostalgic with KING OF COMEDY's classic scenes, its 
promotional focus on moving the audience's hearts with the struggle of 
an extra.  As soon as the trailer began lead actress Vin E Jingwen bared 
her back as a double, the team drove her away due to her lack of figure.  
Later her family objected to her acting, as people around her kept made 
fun of her and attacked her senseless.
	E Jingwen like KING OF COMEDY's "Wan Tin Sau" studied acting on 
her own with the book "An Actor Prepares".  She persisted and kept looking 
for performance opportunities, rice box was enough for her reward.  She 
ended up being beaten up and hung, her father asked Wang Baoqiang to 
convince her to stop.  Yet Wang Baoqiang said, "She works very hard!  She 
would succeed!"  E Jingwen immediately ran to hug Wang Baoqiang, which 
turned into an embrace in formal wear at a theater.  The score was Danny 
Chan Pak Keung's GALE.

* (2019/01/30) The Lunar New Year film MISSBEHAVIOR (GUNG HEI BAK POR) 
two nights ago held a premiere.  The director and the "nosy bitches" in 
the film Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, DaDa Chan Jing, Hanjin Tan (Chan Woon Yan), 
Tsui Tin Yau, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Jo Kuk Cho Lam all wore red in support.  
Sei Gor Patrick Tse Yin also attended.  Chin Wa revealed that for the 
Lunar New Year he would take his son to learn to ski.  She too was a 
skiing novice.  When suggested that her husband could teach her, she said 
that her husband would not bother.  There truly was a difference before 
and after marriage!
	Was Chin Wa one of the "nosy bitches"?  She pointed at the 
director and said, "Actually the director is the nosiest.  He is always 
pretending to work but actually listening to other people's gossips, 
which you will see later in a movie!"  Chin Wa admitted that this time 
the director used something funny that happened to her friend at a cafe 
in the film, with her playing her friend's role.  Was she not afraid that 
her friend would call her "nosy" after watching the film?  Chin Wa said, 
"That's why I very early on already told my friend that a great cast 
would interpret it, I immediately got approval!"
	Speaking of her husband Real Ting Chi Ko going on an all guys 
ski trip to Hokkaido, Chin Wa said that her husband would go with her to 
work in Australia after that.  However for the Lunar New Year she would 
take her son to learn to ski.  She said that she did not know how to ski 
either and took a mock skiing lesson in Hong Kong.  "I want to have a 
breakthrough before my 45th birthday, but I look too old for it."  Would 
she ask her husband to teach her?  Chin Wa said, "My husband wouldn't 
bother, why would he wait for me?  The difference before and after 
marriage is waiting and not waiting!"  As for her February 3rd birthday, 
Chin Wa said that it would be the Lunar 29th.  She had to work on a 
commercial before and did not have time to do her New Year shopping, that 
day she probably would have to get up at 9AM to do that.  Before that she 
even had to pull an all nighter to clean up around the house.
	The government invited artists like Chin Wa, Alan Tam Wing Lun to 
shoot videos to cheer on the medical personnel that has tirelessly been 
taking care of patients.  However online critics said that artists would 
not go to a public hospital and would not understand the pain.  Chin Wa 
responded, "My stance is I was invited to the shoot, my own intention was 
to cheer on the workers on the front line.  Earlier for the 150th 
anniversary of the firefighters I also shot a video to cheer them on.  I 
was a nurse before, the stress at work was not something that everyone 
would understand -- like taking care of 50 patients on one shift.  I of 
course understood the pain, my goal was to cheer them on, for people to 
understand and say 'thank you'.  I don't think much about anything 
after that.  Actually all first responders deserved to be thanked!"
	Chan Jing said that she has already seen her performance in the 
film.  She felt that her acting and her figure have improved.
	Speaking of the series GUARDIAN ANGEL's Kate Tsui Tsz Shan role 
originally being hers but the switch was made after her acting was 
incompatible, DaDa admitted that it was two years ago.  At the time she 
was constantly dizzy from Meniere's disease, after one day at work she 
quit.  However she talked about it with TVB before making the decision.  
"Luckily the series response has been good, and I really like Tsui Tsz 
Shan!"  Did she have to make compensation?  DaDa said, "No, instead they 
paid more than one day salary.  When I got it I thought it was a lot.  I 
was very pleased!"  Would she make another series now that she has 
recovered?  She said that TVB asked her to make other programs.  With 
suitable characters she would like to try making a series.
	After the premiere the cast celebrated Chan Woon Yan's belated 
birthday.  His "good friend" in the film Tin Yau along with Hanjin's wife 
gave him a birthday kiss.

* (2019/01/30) Full of authentic local flavor, MEN ON THE DRAGON (YIK LAU 
DAI SHOOK) was a critical and commercial hit.  Earlier the film even 
brought director Sunny Chan Wing Sun and star Tony Wu Tsz Tung to London for 
the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office sponsored Chinese Visual Art 
Festival and the film's London premiere.  Wu Tsz Tung deeply felt the 
audience's passion and anticipation for Hong Kong film.  While at work he 
also remembered to get gifts for his girlfriend Stephanie Au Hoi Shun.  
However Wu Tsz Tung said that he had some regret from this trip to 
London, which made he state that he would return to England to fulfill 
his dream.
	Wu Tsz Tung earlier with WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO) attended the 
Toronto Film Festival, but this time he was able to go to London for the 
first time for an art festival with MEN ON THE DRAGON.  He was rather 
excited and anxious.  He explained, "Earlier the director and Jennifer 
(Yu Heung Yi) went to a New York film festival, the audience reaction was 
great."  After the screening, the audience kept asking the director and Wu 
Tsz Tung questions.  "An English viewer said that this type of 
inspirational film was very 'marketable' in England and would have a lot 
of room to exist.  He hoped the director would bring this type of ideas to 
England."  Both he and the directors were greatly encouraged after 
hearing that.
	Although the schedule was rather tight, for his first visit in 
London Wu Tsz Tung had to take time for himself.  He thanked the director 
and his wife for taking care of him, showing this "orphan" around.  As 
Valentine's Day neared, Wu Tsz Tung also did not forget to shop for his 
girlfriend.  "I bought a tea set for my girlfriend, but the temperature 
difference indoors and outdoors in London and I was in a rush, when I 
made the purchase I got a little light headed."
	As a soccer fan Wu Tsz Tung said that he had some regret from 
this trip to London.  Did it have anything to do with his girlfriend not 
being there with him?  He said, "My team Man U was competing in London, 
because of work I couldn't go to the match.  I can only keep working 
hard and hopefully my next films can bring me back to England many more 
times."


* (2019/01/29) The Lunar New Year film INTEGRITY (LIM JING FUNG WON YIN 
MOK) will open on the Lunar New Year's Day, February 5th.  The Mainland 
promotional tour's second stop took place in Guangzhou.  Leads Sean Lau 
Ching Wan, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Karena Lam Ka Yun participated.  Ka Fai 
jokingly asked the audience if anyone wanted to hear him speak Cantonese 
or Putonghua.  A debate began in the audience, some said that Cantonese 
was more intimate while others looked forward to his entertaining Putonghua 
that made him "Jar Jar Fai".
	INTEGRITY was shot on location in Australia.  The Canberra airport
gave unprecedented access to its restricted area for a Hong Kong film 
shoot. Even the airport gate was actual location.  Lam Ka Yun said, "I 
never really imagine that the airport would block an entire gate for us
to make a movie.  The director and the producer are amazing!"  Ka Fai 
also worked on a film in the airport restricted area for the first time.  
He hoped that the Hong Kong government would assist Hong Kong films, 
which he believed would help elevate the film quality.

* (2019/01/29) Wong Cho Lam yesterday promoted his Lunar New Year film I 
LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE!  (NEI MAI LEI, NGOR OI NEI) in Sham 
Shui Po.  He wrote couplets and gave away two golden pigs and movie 
tickets.  Cho Lam said that he and his wife Leanna Li Yanan would 
occasionally come to Sham Shui Po to eat.  As for his directing debut 
Lunar New Year film opening Thursday, he admitted that he was very 
nervous because this year would have a lot competition.  He did not dare 
to talk about the box office, but only his would be a musical so he was 
happy.  "To beat others first you have to beat yourself, I hope to win 
word of mouth first!"
	Speaking of two days ago the financial secretary Paul Chan Mo Bo 
went live on social media to collect public opinion on the government 
budget, Wong Cho Lam was the host.  He received many "angry" emojis.  Cho 
Lam near the end of the live broadcast counted over 1,000 "angry" emojis 
and also almost 100 "hearts".
	Cho Lam said that actually last month at an event where show 
business expressed its opinions about the budget, the financial secretary 
asked if he would be interested in a live broadcast.  He said that before 
he started he asked the financial secretary if he would afraid of seeing 
"angry" emojis online.  The secretary answered that he expected that.  Cho 
Lam said, "Actually this also enables expressing opinions in many 
different ways.  I watch the news everyday, this time I can ask questions 
in person.  So all the questions online like medical personnel's workload 
complaint, the government's HK$ 4,000 "care and share" project debacle, 
unemployed seniors (age 60-64)' HK$ 200 decrease in benefits, I asked them 
all and got some responses.  We can even express a little together!"
	Did he feel there is any room for improvement?  Cho Lam said, 
"This HK$ 4,000 scheme probably wouldn't be so troublesome, it has been 
in limbo for a long time.  They said that they have already invested on 
additional bed space, but they still have to let people know how the 
resource was spent.  The front line medical personnel has a lot of 
grievances, actually they are in a tough spot and really have to express 
themselves.  The senior welfare shouldn't lose HK$ 200 because this is 
like threatening someone to have to work.  After the live broadcast the 
government cancelled this project, so everyone can air different opinions 
and displeasure!"
	Should artists not be connected to politics?  Cho Lam said, "Ah 
Jeh (Liza) Wang Ming Chuen would be my role model.  She dares to speak 
up due to her care for the community.  Actually we didn't filter out 
any questions for our live broadcast.  Except for the foul language, I 
asked the financial secretary questions directly!"
	As for I's premiere tonight, Cho Lam said that it was time for 
his wife to appear.  "She originally has seen it many times at home in 
the bedroom, but she still wants to support me her husband.  However 
this Valentine's Day we will be on holiday in Japan.  It happened to be 
our wedding anniversary.  She just finished her maternity rest so she 
could eat whatever she wants."  Would he be reluctant to leave their 
baby girl?  Cho Lam said, "Even if I don't want to I have to, I should 
take care of my wife a little more.  I don't want her to be stressed from 
taking care of the child everyday!"

* (2019/01/28) Gigi Leung Wing Kei and Pang Ho Cheung promoted their film 
MISSBEHAVIOR (GUNG HEI BAK POR) on TVB.  Gigi said, "People in Hong Kong 
look forward to seeing Lunar New Year films every year.  I am very happy 
that I once had a hit FAT CHOI SPIRIT (LEK GU LEK GU SUN NIN CHOI), which 
I have seen many times too."  First time directing a Lunar New Year film, 
Pang Ho Cheung said, "I really want to make some crazy comedy to make 
this city laugh and cheer.  As for the subject this time, I am pretty 
nosy myself.  Even when I am doing something serious I would stop 
everything to be nosy.  Every group on the phone would have something, 
and it would go on all night; among the actors this time, I feel Chan Woon 
Yan (Hanjin Tan) would have the nosy potential."  Gigi chimed in, "I feel 
everyone would have some nosy quality.  If you want to be a part of this 
community you naturally would want to think what is happening around you."  

* (2019/01/27) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing two nights attended the DECADE OF 
DREAM screening as a guest.  Liu Kai Chi received the Hong Kong Baptist 
University film academy "outstanding contribution award".  Sing Sing 
congratulated Uncle Chi on his award and said that Uncle Chi as an 
instructor at the school has helped many young people with intention to 
become film workers.  He was well worth the honor, but Uncle Chi said 
that he did not live up to the honor and felt guilty.  He even revealed 
that for now he had no plan to teach full time.  In addition, Sing Sing's 
wife Moka Fang was said to be too light for her pregnancy, Sing Sing 
hoped that his wife would eat more.  The most important would be the 
health of the baby.
	Would he be interested in becoming a guest instructor at the 
academy?  Sing Sing said that he would be fine if the opportunity arose, 
as he would share what he learned from film with the new generation.  
Sing Sing with PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG) would compete for the Asian 
Film Award Best Actor.  He said that he was already very happy with the 
nomination.  He has only seen Xu Zheng in DYING TO SURVIVE among the 
competition.  "I am not on the jury, but the nomination is already a 
great encouragement.  The award would be a bonus."  
	The "outstanding contribution award" recipient Uncle Chi humbly 
said that he was a little guilt because he felt that he came up short 
educating wise.  Now he was teaching as he learned, during the teaching 
process he saw his own shortcoming, but whenever he saw his students 
perform he would feel comforted.  Uncle Chi said that he had no plan to 
teach full time, for now he would maintain teaching two periods a week.
	Busy with an inspirational film with Chow Yun Fat, Uncle Chi 
revealed that every morning he ran with Fat Gor to get into shape.  He 
said that Alex Fong Chung Shun erupted in foul language because he could 
not catch up to Fat Gor's speed.  Uncle Chi said, "I have no expectation 
of myself, from running I can see that my persistence is my advantage.  
Fat Gor have such long legs and full of running experience, he planned 
the running route and everyone had a very good time running."

* (2019/01/27) Hong Kong director Ringo Lam Lan Tung passed away on 
December 29th last year at age 63.  His family followed Lam Lan Tung's 
wishes and held a private low key funeral.  For everyone to be able to 
express their gratitude, Lam Lan Tung's friends Johnnie To Kei Fung, Tsui 
Hark, John Shum Kin Fun and Sylvia Chang formed a Lam Lan Tung memorial 
committee and yesterday at noon held a memorial event for friends to 
remember Director Lam Lan Tung.  
	Sylvia Chang, Tsui Hark and others yesterday around 11AM arrived 
to set up the memorial.  Sister Chang was dressed in blue in coordination 
of the memorial theme "leaving sorrow behind, coming in the mood for a 
gathering to share a drink and remember a friend together".  Other 
friends included Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Shi Nansun, 
Joseph Chang, Ng See Yuen, Benny Chan Muk Sing, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Law 
Sau Yiu, Lam Tak Luk, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, James Yuen Sai Sun, Lo Hoi 
Pang, Teddy Robin Kwan, To Kei Fung and his wife, Amy Kwok Oi Ming, Joe 
Cheung Tung Cho, Roy Cheung Yiu Yeung, John Chiang Dai Wai and his wife 
Lee Lam Lam, Karl Maka, Charles Heung Wa Keung, Ann Hui On Wa, Sally Yeh 
(Yip Sin Man), Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Louis Koo Tin Lok and others.
	Cheung Ka Fai once was a neighbor of Lam Lan Tung, only at the 
time they did not know each other.  Several months ago when Lam approached 
him about a movie they started to get to know each other.  Ka Fai praised 
Lam Lan Tung as one of Hong Kong's famous directors who made great 
contributions.  earlier he wanted to make a movie about his view on life.  
"I was fortunate enough to have him approach me about playing a cop.  His 
attitude and philosophy were how Lam Lan Tung lived his life, how he 
understood life.  He asked me because he felt that our personalities were 
very similar, we both would give up everything for what we do.  Last 
month after many meetings I kept looking forward to the performance, but 
unfortunately I suddenly learned that he passed away.  I lost a friend, 
a good director and the project also helplessly ended!"  Would he 
consider directing to fulfill Lam's wish?  Ka Fai said, "This is his 
personal understanding, his view of the first and second half of life.  
No one can control that."  He pointed out that past Lam Lan Tung films 
were mostly action films.  This project would have been a rare drama and 
the director was in a hurry to make it.  Unfortunately it did not come to 
fruition.  However Ka Fai said that from all the meetings with Lam Lan 
Tung, he learned that Lam loved his wife very much and his wife was very 
supportive of him.  In addition Lam also said that To Kei Fung was a 
childhood buddy and they understood each other.
	Yam Tat Wa originally had to take the noon flight to Hokkaido for 
a movie, but he insisted on attending the memorial.  He changed his 
flight to a 2PM one to Tokyo then wait for several hours for a transfer 
to Hokkaido.  Brother Wa said that he often had dinner with "Mr. Tung" 
and his family, so yesterday he and a group of friends came to remember 
their good friend who contributed so much to film.  Brother Wa said, "I 
hope in the future the film world would have like minded directors like 
him, generation after generation; whether new director or actor 
would be able to learn from his filmmaking experience and spirit!"  
Brother Wa about his mood, "I am a little better, that day I really wasn't 
well.  However this has already become fact, so everyone should pay 
attention to their health.  Young people and older people also need to 
communicate more and have dinner together!"  
	He was asked whether Lam Lan Tung's family needed any help.  
Brother Wa said that the director's family would not need any assistance 
at all because they really took good care of their finances.  Brother Wa 
finally said, "He would always been in my heart, all the memories made me 
even more passionate about film.  This is what Mr. Tung taught me!"
	Brother Wa left after an hour.  He revealed that at the memorial 
friends ate, enjoyed cigar and red wine as they talked about their 
memories of Mr. Tung.  With a memorial program A SIMPLE LIFE in his hand he 
said that he was honored to have been a part of Lam Lan Tung's final film 
EIGHT AND A HALF.  The event also played Mr. Tung's brother Nam Yin 
written songs to remember him.
	Memorial committee member Johnnie To Kei Fung represented the 
committee and Mrs. Lam Lan Tung to thank the media because everyone was 
concerned about "Ah Tung's" affairs.  He said, "Ah Tung was a passionate 
film worker, but his life was very simple and low key.  Thus the burial 
followed his family's wishes and took place simply and quietly.  Today's 
memorial is for everyone to remember Ah Tung's happy days.  Mrs. Lam even 
shared the red wine that Ah Tung left with everyone, for his film friends 
to sense that their friendship would endure.  Ah Tung's passing made 
everyone even more united and caring, cherish everything that they have 
now and live in the moment."  As for what would be shared at the memorial, 
Ah To said, "We would talk about happy and joyous things, we wouldn't 
remember the sorry.  We have to live.  Ah Tung wouldn't want us to be sad 
because he too was a happy person."  Speaking of Nick Cheung Ka Fai 
mentioning Lam Lan Tung's plan to make a movie but was unable to fulfill 
it, Ah To said that he was not sure.  However Lam Lan Tung's part in his 
final film EIGHT AND A HALF (BAK BO BOO) has already been completed.  When 
it will be released everyone could remember him with these few minutes.
	As for looking his good friend, Ah To sentimentally said, "I can't 
be in a good mood.  We have known each other since 73, and have been 
friends for over 40 years.  I have always had a lot of sentiments.  
Whenever Ah Tung came back he definitely ask me to dinner.  For over 40 to 
50 years, we never lost contact and we never argued.  His passing made me 
realize that a lot was not as simple as imagined, coming and going are 
both very fast!"  Tang Ying Man and several artist training class 
classmates wrote a poem with Lam Lan Tung's film titles for Lam Lan Tung's 
family.

* (2019/01/27) Simon Yam Tat Wa yesterday appeared at a Causeway Bay bus 
stop to attend an art photography exhibit and shared his photography art 
and creative concepts with everyone.  
	Busy with a film lately, Brother Wa yesterday flew to Hokkaido, 
Japan for the shoot.  Then he flew to Shanghai to continue the shoot and 
would spend the Lunar New Year there.  Would his wife and daughter go to 
Shanghai to spend the holiday with him?  He said, "No, because my 
daughter won't have time off.  When I return in February I would spend 
the holiday with her."

* (2019/01/27) The Lunar New Year's Day film release NEW KING OF COMEDY 
released its latest production special.  In the film director Stephen Chow 
Sing Chi during the shoot personally demonstrated solemnly and seriously.
	Sing Yeh in KING OF COMEDY 20 years ago played Wan Tin Sau, which 
became countless fans' classic image.  On and off camera his serious 
persistence for film production also was on display as a director in 
the NEW KING OF COMEDY production process.  In the special, many "extras" 
appeared, Sing Yeh personally demonstrated their every expression and 
move.  Lead actor Vin E Jingwen sad that she was deeply sentimental from 
working with Sing Yeh.  She said, "The director was particularly sensitive 
about actor performance, and was especially strict about details.  We 
have to achieve the director's demand and standard, only by working hard 
can we meet his demands."  Sing Yeh said that this type of personal 
effort was a habit of his expression.  "When I perform it would be even 
more direct, the actors can immediately understand the feeling that I 
want.  This way they would also have many different things in their 
performance."  Sing Yeh in order to guarantee NEW KING OF COMEDY would be 
able to meet his demands, many scenes had continuous bad takes.  In the 
special Sing Yeh kept yelling "cut".  Lead actor Wang Baoqiang stressed 
that he too experienced the most bad takes in his professional careers.  
He said, "Before the most was a dozen or so times, for NEW KING OF COMEDY 
once we did over 50 takes.  I enjoyed working with Sing Yeh very much, 
and hoped to perform to his satisfaction."
	From Wan Tin Sau to every character in NEW KING OF COMEDY, Sing 
Yeh hoped that the extras and minor characters in the film would embody 
the determination of serious living and passionate pursuit.  "From them 
you can see real, confident, serious passion for their jobs.  No matter 
sizes of roles that people had in the film, they all would affect the 
final display."

* (2019/01/26) INTEGRITY (LIM JING FUNG WON YIN MOK) director Alan Mak Siu 
Fai earlier led Sean Lau Ching Wan, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Karena Lam Ka Yun 
and other actors to attend the Beijng press conference and began their 
Mainland promotional tour!  The first stop had the director Mak Siu Fai, 
Ching Wan, Ka Fai and Ka Yun super luxury Lunar New Year group in 
Shenzhen.  A female fan successfully broke through the defense and 
surprise attacked Ka Fai.  Ka Fai calmly thanked the fan for the support.
	Many felt that INTEGRITY's Spring Festival release was a little 
strange.  Mak Siu Fai said that he felt Lunar New Year films did not have 
to end with "Kung Hei Fat Choi" to be suitable for the Spring Festival 
release.  The holiday needed an entertaining movie.  From this angle, 
their film was very suitable for this slot.  
	At the promotion, the director, Ching Wan, Ka Fai and Ka Yun 
made their own calligraphy couplets and gave them to the audience.  Ka 
Fai even gave one to someone who was having coffee, which was very 
appropriate to the ICAC subject.
	In addition, during the games a female fan successfully broke 
through the security defense and took the chance to hug Ka Fai on the 
stage.  Ka Fai calmly thanked the fan for her support with a smile.  
After Shenzehn they continued on to Guangzhou, Dongguan, Huizhou, Xiamen, 
Zhuhai, Suzhou and Jiaxing to meet viewers.

* (2019/01/26) Andrew Lam Man Chung and Albert Mak Kai Kwong directed the Lunar 
New Year film A LIFETIME TREASURE (YU JU YU BO).  Despite Lam Man Chung 
having to direct and star, Mak Kai Kwong lightened the load.  A LIFETIME 
TREASURE had a strong cast of veteran actors Tian Niu, Richard Ng Yiu 
Hon, Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Teddy Robin Kwan, Leung Siu Lung and others and 
young actors Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Bob Lam Sing Bun, Ivana Wong Yuen 
Chi and Dennis To Yu Hang.
	Mak Kai Kwong admitted that although this time had many veteran 
actors it was not difficult.  Instead he felt the veterans were easy 
going and the production process was very happy.  He stated that the 
end was the hardest to shoot with 40 or 50 actors.  Because Big Brother 
Big had limited time, they could only finish the ending scene in four 
days.  He said, "I really thank To Yu Hang, one day we had to shoot with 
two teams at the same time.  I was responsible for the ending scene while 
Lam Man Chung shot the other side.  The worst part he had scenes in both 
sides.  I had to shoot the scene before he fought, then he had to shoot 
the fight.  Sometimes he really was very busy.  After the fight he 
returned to my shoot.  Thus sometimes we set everything up for the next 
shoot to wait for Ah Chung to finish his scene." 
	Playing a fake official, To Yu Hang even asked his MMA heavyweight 
friend Bruce Lee to make his big screen debut.  Bruce Lee said that his 
scene was only 15 seconds and would certainly wow the crowd.  He had to 
fight Lam Man Chung without accommodating him.  He said, "On the set Ah 
Chung yelled, 'Don't hit so hard!'"  To Yu Hang sad that after the fight 
with Leung Siu Lung, he was no match so his cohort Bruce Lee took over.  
He even praised Leung Siu Lung for being in great shape and not needing 
any adjustment.  The shoot went very smoothly.  Although he only traded 
a blow or two with Hung Kam Bo, he did not have stage fright.  In the 
past they have worked together on several movies.  He said, "Big Brother 
Big is very friendly.  Before the shoot everyone would sit down and chat 
to catch up."  
	In his first Lunar New Year film, Bruce Lee said that it felt 
very romantic because not everyone would have a chance.  He also felt that 
Lam Man Chung lived up to his quick witted reputation.  Often on the set 
he would suddenly come up with a good idea, so he thought Lam was very 
cool.

* (2019/01/26) DaDa Chan Jing in the Lunar New Year film MISSBEHAVIOR 
(GUNG HEI BAK POR) and a phone group with eight people like Gigi Leung 
Wing Kei, Jo Kuk Cho Lam, Isabel Chan Yat Ning and others.  Due to a 
misunderstanding they have not been in contact for a very long time.  
Playing a young writer, DaDa said that in the film she often turned what 
happened to her friends into books. Director Pang Ho Cheung also listened 
to friends' stories and them made them into movies.
	DaDa said that she got sexy again for the film because she owed 
director Pang Ho Cheung.  In addition his films were fun and had a deeper 
layer meaning.  She said, "This time he gave me the writer role to play, 
I was very grateful to him.  It's not just sexy, I got to do a lot.  I 
also did a lot that I have never done in my acting  before.  Instead I 
happily finished it without any stress.  For me, earlier I wanted to try 
different characters unlike 'Popping Candy' in VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI 
KET).  I didn't want the audience to typecast me.  As I aged slowly I knew 
I wanted to be different, instead I wanted to act more and not just keep 
playing the same type of characters."
	DaDa lamented the difficulty of wearing low cut clothes in the 
film.  Aside from the visual burden, she also had chase scenes and had 
to magnify life events on the big screen.  She said, "In one scene I had 
a stomach ache and had to go to the bathroom.  It was very biological so 
I followed the script.  Yet I ran into some on the set mistakes and the 
result was very funny instead.  In the end this take was used.  Because 
the story took place in a day, the costume was the same for every day of 
the shoot.  I was afraid of wardrobe malfunction and took all the safety 
caution."  In the film DaDa lost touch with the friends of many years.  
In reality DaDa admitted that her circle of friends had disputes.  
"Because of that a new phone group had to start.  Actually it was 
nonsense between girls, like talking behind someone's back over something 
minor.  I wouldn't start a group.  If I want to go to dinner and people 
didn't like each other, I wouldn't ask either of them!"

* (2019/01/26) The film DYNASTY WARRIORS (JUN SAM GOK MO SEUNG)'s 
producer and director Roy Chow Hin Yeung yesterday released several post 
production photos.  "Hard at work everyday, continuing the post production 
special effect drop by drop."
	In the photo was Louis Koo Tin Lok as Lu Bu.  With the Heaven 
Scorcher Halbred in hand on the back of his horse Red Hare he battled in 
the forest.  Many online called Goo Jai as the most handsome Lu Bu in 
history.  

* (2019/01/26) Law Kar Ying yesterday appeared on a Chinese Opera radio 
show and shared minor issues that the newly launched West Kowloon Tea 
House needed to handle and improve.  Speaking of Cheung Tat Ming cutting 
out Brother Kar Ying's scenes in the new film A HOME WITH A VIEW (GA WOR 
MAN SI GAING), Brother Kar Ying joked that thus he did not attend the 
premiere.  Actually he had no idea.  As an actor he was happy with getting 
paid fully.  The final cut right was not in his hands.
	Did Brother Kar Ying mind?  He said, "No, I got the money 
already.  If the scene was important naturally it wouldn't be removed.  
Actually I just did a few scenes with Goo Jai (Louis Koo Tin Lok)."  

* (2019/01/26) Sammi Cheng Sau Man in Wong Cho Lam's directing debut, the 
musical comedy I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE!  (NEI MAI LEI, NGOR 
OI NEI!) She not only had many scenes with Joey Leung Cho Hu but also left 
her idol baggage behind, as she appeared as a worn down housewife.  Many 
said that they had to take a few more looks at the trailer to realize that 
was Sammi.
	In the film Sammi and Leung Cho Hiu played a couple, who was so 
busy with their children that they had their own lives and sex lives.  
One day due to unexpected "free time" their long forgotten passion 
overflowed.  As they prepared to turn the world upside down, their 
daughter "sabotaged" them and left them "unsatisfied".  In the end because 
their children ran into them in the middle of the deed that they could not 
be more embarrassed.
	Sammi put a lot of thought into her character, in the film she 
would appear with two completely different looks.  She spent several days 
on just choosing the wig for the character.  Sammi and Cho Hiu had many 
intimate scenes, but the two professionals had zero awkwardness.  After 
the shoot they even went to see the playback with the director and studied 
how to make it better.  Director Cho Lam said that the production ran into 
N obstacles.  "In the middle of the shoot the bed suddenly broke.  We 
seemed to really get too passionate."

* (2019/01/26) The late billionaire "seafood king" Choi Kai Yau's 
granddaughter Jocelyn Choi Chung Sze starred in the film A HOME WITH A 
VIEW (GA WOR MAN SI GAING).  Two days ago the flm opened and she booked 
a show for her family and friends.  Actually she has already seen the 
film at the premiere earlier and thought that she could perform even 
better.  The entire film was very entertaining.  Choi Chung Sze said that 
she performed in web drama before and hoped to continue to have the chance 
to act in the future.
	Playing Anita Yuen Wing Yi and Francis Ng Chun Yu's daughter in 
the film, she admitted that working with elders was very stressful because 
their performance was fast and precise.  She aside from coordinating 
fortunately also received their understanding.  Although Len Len did not 
teach her acting, she often taught her what was good to eat.  Mainly Len 
Len and Chun Yu both loved food, so they would constantly treat 
everyone.
	Cheung Tat Ming also booked a show for friends.  He wanted to

* (2019/01/25) The Alan Mak Siu Fai directed Emperor Motion Picture Lunar 
New Year film INTEGRITY (LIM JING FUNG WON YIN MOK) starred Best Actors 
Sean Lau Ching Wan and Nick Cheung Ka Fai with Best Actresses Karena Lam 
Ka Yun and Anita Yuen Wing Yi.  Earlier Lam Ka Yun and Mak Siu Fai 
shared their production experience on Hong Kong Open TV.  Lam Ka Yun 
revealed that the first scene was an argument scene with Lau Ching Wan, 
but she admitted that argument scenes required familiarity and chemistry.  
She has not worked with Ching Wan before and they were not close, but 
Ching Wan very quickly was able to find the pace of the film and they 
clicked right away.
	Mak Siu Fai stated that his impression of Lam Ka Yun was very 
deep.  The first movie he saw Ka Yun in was INNER SENSES (YI DOH HUNG GAN) 
over a decade ago.  He also praised Ka Yun was an actor from Heaven, he 
was drawn to her acting and regretted that he did not ask her to make a 
movie until years later.

* (2019/01/25) Stephen Chow Sing Chi has been promoting the Lunar New Year 
film NEW KING OF COMEDY (SUN HEI KET JI WONG).  Earlier he led the leads 
Wang Baoqiang and Vin E Jingwen to a Mainland media interviw.  NEW KING OF 
COMEDY was a story of temporary actors.  Sing Yeh also shared his past as 
an extra.  He revealed that he beg a director on his knees to reshoot his 
line.
	Sing Yeh was a graduate of the 11th TVB artist training class, 
among his classmates were Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Bobby Auyeung Chun Wa, 
Francis Ng Chun Yu and Wilson Lam Chun Yin.  However before his training 
class he was an extra on RTV's I.Q. 1000 (IQ SING SHOOK SI).  Sing Yeh 
said, "When I was an extra you weren't born yet.  Once I had a line.  I 
thought I didn't deliver it well.  I was still thinking about it when I 
got home, why did I say it like that?  I went back to ask the director, 
'Can we reshoot my scene, can you give me a chance to deliver the line 
again?'  The director stared at me.  I remembered I might have gotten 
down on my knees, 'Director, let me say it once more!'  Finally the 
director gave me a chance, at the time I was still on television.  I 
forgot which series it was."  E Jingwen was moved to tears.
	As for his future plans, Sing Yeh said that he would keep 
creating comedy.  He wanted even more new comers to participate.  As 
for whether he would perform on screen?  He joked that he was no longer a 
new face.  Earlier Sing Yeh was questioned whether NEW KING OF COMEDY was 
a "refried rice" product.  He said, "I have made Yang Chow Fried Rice, but 
I really haven't made refried rice."  

* (2019/01/25) The Hong Kong Film Development Fund financially assisted 
the 5th First Feature Film Initiative yesterday announced its winners.  
Receiving HK$ 3.25 million in assistance, the Higher Education Institution 
Group winners included the Nick Cheuk Yik Him directed, Derek Yee Tung 
Sing produced TIME STILL TURNS THE PAGES (WAI SHU) and the Eric Tsang 
Hing Won directed THE DINNER (YEUNG); receiving HK$ 5.5 million in 
assistance, the Professional Group winners included the Anastasia Tsang 
Hin Ning directed A LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT (DUNG FOR LAN SHAN).
	Yesterday at the press conference, Siu Bo mentioned that new 
directors often would run into production and market problems.  The 
biggest problem was of course the lack of funding.  "So I hope the 
government can give a little more, there is inflation too.  However giving 
too much isn't good either.  It has to be appropriate.  Like the 
Mainland new directors would already have a lot of money to make their 
first film, in the long run it's not good!"  Siu Bo pointed out that the 
Mainland film market rose over a decade ago, many filmmakers have given 
up Hong Kong's existing market.  In recent years Hong Kong cultivated 
talent.  The Film Development Fund after several years would cultivate 
70 to 80 directors, actors and behind the scene workers.  "Although last 
year Hong Kong only made 54 movies, young people entered.  I believe in 
the next two or three years it will be a different scene, it is also 
time for a dynasty change!"  However he also advised new directors to 
try to give their all in their first two or three films.  After joining 
the commercial film market they would very quickly lose themselves.
	Would the film he produced TIME STILL BURNS THE PAGES ask stars 
to perform?  Siu Bo admitted that actors with recognition would be able to 
help the market sales, thus traditionally he would call in favors to look 
for actors.  Director Cheuk Yik Him also said that he would use both new 
and old actors.
	In addition Hanna Chan will perform in a previous winning film  
ELISA'S DAY (CHONG HOI WAI OI).  She revealed that she would work with 
Ronald Cheng Chung Kei.  In the film she gave birth illegitimately and 
became an unwed mother, she would play the character from age 15 to 20 
something.  The journey of the heart would be rather heavy, so now she 
would take care of her sister's child more as training.

* (2019/01/25) The Cheung Tat Ming produced, written and starred film A 
HOME WITH A VIEW (GA WOR MAN SI GAING) opens today.  Yesterday he 
promoted on Commercial Radio and revealed that he was excited, but 
admitted that the release was somewhat difficult because everyone was busy 
working overtime before the Lunar New Year.  Did he have any box office 
pressure?  He said no, this was not an area that he had to be worry 
about.  Because he was responsible for creating and performing, he had 
confidence in this film.  As long as someone liked to watch a good movie 
and good actors they would want to see it.  The film had many superstars 
like Louis Koo Tin Lok, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Anita Yuen Wing Yi, Anthony 
Wong Chau Sun, Elena Kong Mei Yi, but he had to apologize to Law Kar Ying.  
Because the film was too long, he could only cut other Borther Kar Ying's 
guest starring role.
	This year competition between domestic Lunar New Year films would 
be fierce.  Tat Ming said that he noticed that too and felt that the 
strongest was Stephen Chow Sing Chi.  With Wong Cho Lam, Pang Ho Cheung 
and others, more competition and a full bloom would be fine and even more 
cheerful.  This film was based on Tat Ming's award winning play.  He said, 
"This time I injected many film angles, making it even more modern with 
housing, unauthorized construction and family problem as subjects.  It 
should be very relatable."  Would he take this film to other markets?  He 
said, "Actually in Paris, France young people also would run into housing 
problems.  Many had to live in subdivided rooms.  This type of subject 
would happen in different places."  Later Tat Ming would work with an 
American film company, for now he was not be able to reveal any detail.

* (2019/01/24) Chow Yun Fat and Anita Yuen Wing Yi are working on the 
film GUONG FAI SHUI YUET (AGE OF BRILLIANCE) in Macau.  Earlier the film 
shot on location at a casino and some caught a glimpse of Chow Yun Fat.  
In the photo he had long hair in a rather retro look, however after he 
put on a pair of sunglasses he immediately was full of presence, as if 
God of Gamblers has returned!
	At the table Chow Yun Fat crossed his arms, stared ahead, smiled 
a little like he had a plan.  Next to him was Liu Kai Chi.

* (2019/01/24) After her comeback the 30 year old Isabella Leong Lok Si 
has many job offers.  Yesterday she attended an opening in Taiwan and 
stayed for about 20 minutes.  She revealed that she would play a demon 
boss in the Lunar New Year film MISSBEHAVIOR (GUNG HEI BAK POR) and would 
have many new film and new character challenges on the way.  She said that 
she liked to sing and hoped to have a chance to sing a theme song.  She 
said that as long as she did not have to release a record she would not 
have as much stress.

* (2019/01/24) The world's first super electric car theme giant indoor 
stunt show ELEKRON last night made its global premiere in Studio City in 
Macau.  ELEKRON's spokesman Shawn Yue Man Lok after the red carpet 
ceremony officially unveiled the show.  Lok Jai also guest starred in a 
convertible vignette with an actor, then greeted the audience again and 
left without performing a stunt.  Guests included Myolie Wu Hung Yi, 
Charmaine Sheh Sze Man, Christine Kuo and her husband.
	Yue Man Lok said that because he did not have time to practice he 
did not participate in the car stunt.  Since it was the premiere show he 
did not want any accident to occur, it had nothing to be with him being a 
father.  He revealed that her mother was also at the show, but his wife 
did not attend as she had to take care of their son.  After becoming a 
father, would he miss his son a lot when he was at work?  He said, "I 
would, but not exaggeratedly a lot.  I finally understand why parents 
would miss their children.  I used to always make fun of friends who 
aren't willing to leave their sons and go out.  I finally get it, so 
lately when I make movies I would consider jobs that won't require leaving

* (2019/01/24) Stephen Chow Sing Chi's Lunar New Year film THE NEW KING OF 
COMEDY (SUN HEI KET JI WONG) will open on the Lunar New Year's Day.  After 
the golden team up with "Lau Piu Piu" Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi, Sing Yeh 
invited Fama to provide their voices to his new film's characters.
	The always quick witted and funny Fama clicked with Sing Yeh on 
their first collaboration.  When Lok Wing and C Kwan saw the folding 
chair that Sing Yeh personally autographed, they both wanted it for their 
collection.  They also imitated the poster with it and even took a photo 
with Sing Yen and the folding chair!  Sing Yeh also praised them as 
"cheap, pretty, great".
	Fama provided their voices to two characters.  C Kwan described 
his character as an over the hill actor.  Lok Wing said, "I am a 
director.  In the film C Kwan's character has to work on my movie.  See 
the movie for details."
	After working many times with Carol Cheng Yui Ling, Fama had to 
face the always known to be strict Sing Yeh.  Instead they joked, "When we 
talk about mean no human can rival Sister Do, Sing Yeh didn't even yell at 
us.  He was truly too nice and kind to us."  C Kwan said, "Sing Yeh would 
teach with patience, he would keep asking for your opinions and give us

Lok Wing said, "Sing Yeh sometimes would personally demonstrate, the same 
phrase would have a huge difference.  I gained a lot of experience."
	Many felt that Fama caught Sing Yeh's eyes due to their comedy, 
but they joked, "Actually it was because we are cheap and has no job, we 
can't be any freer."  Although they were cheap, as soon as Fama saw Sing 
Yeh they saw, "Are we getting rice boxes?"  Sing Yeh replied, "No!"  Lok 
Wing said, "No rice box is fine!  I can go without rice!"  They proceeded 
to follow one after another.  Sing Yeh added, "Their comedic elements 
kept erupting, they probably are cheap, pretty, great."  He seemed to be 
rather pleased with their performance.  Fama took the chance to learn from 
Sing Yeh and asked him for advice on becoming "king of comedy".  Sing Yeh 
responded, "That's very hard, a few words may not be enough.  At least 
we will need more time."  

* (2019/01/24) Sean Lau Ching Wan, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Karena Lam Ka Yun, 
Alex Fong Chung Shun, Carlos Chan Ka Lok yesterday attended their new 
film press conference in Beijing.  Ching Wan and Ka Fai would return to 
their younger days with computer generated technology in the film.  When 
they saw "their 21 year old selves", the Best Actors could not help but
have a little fun.  Ching Wan said, "Ka Fai really is very special, when 
I saw how he looked when he was younger I couldn't image how he is now.  I 
am very simple, with just a look you would know that I look like a 
'star'."  Ka Fai said, "When I was younger I was angrier, the younger 
Ching wan was more innocent and kind."
	Cheung Ka Fai's Cantonese accented Mandarin has been criticized 
as rivaling that of Louis Koo Tin Lok's.  Yesterday Ka Fai introduced 
himself in fluent Mandarin and asked the reporters, "Do you understand 
me this time?"
	Ching Wan and Ka Yun in the film played a couple.  Ka Fai 
innocently became their "third party".  Ka Fai joked, "The break up fee 
for the third party is too high!"  In the film when Ching Wan picked up 
Ka Yun at the airport, he brought a sign with dog photo and the words "old 
lady".  Ka Yun even asked for a photo of Ching Wan with the sign.  She 
explained, "He looks like the dog, especially his brows."  Ching Wan 
added, "I wasn't saying the old lady was the dog.  I was the dog."
	Carlos Chan Ka Lok thanked the director for arranging a very 
"mean" superior for him due to his lack of experience, so he was able to 
learn.  Ka Lok's on screen superior Ching Wan denied that he was mean, 
saying that Ka Lok was referring to Alex Fong Chung Shun.  Ka Lok stressed 
that he was talking about Lau Ching Wan.  "Brother Ching Wan didn't have 
much expression when he was quiet, so I would be very scared just to see 
him -- just like the character in the film."
	He also said that the director's casting was great, because his 
Papa loved to watch Ka Fai, Mommy liked to watch Ching Wan, he liked to 
watch Fong Chung Shun and other family members were Lam Ka Yun fans.  
Thus his entire family would see INTEGRITY together.

* (2019/01/24) The Lunar New Year comedy film A LIFETIME TREASURE (YU JU 
YU BO) will open on the 31st.  The entire teaser was full of laughter.  
In the story two small time employees Chun (Louis Cheung Kai Chung) and 
Lok (Bob Lam Sing Bun) snuck into a nursing home and wrecked havoc.  The 
home chief was a doctor without border Yuen Cheung Cheung (Andrew Lam Man 
Chung).  Along with other elders the chief brought back (Richard Ng Yiu 
Hon, Leung Siu Lung, Teddy Robin Kwan, Tian Nu) they stayed at his family 
business nursing home, under the care of nursing assistant Ching Ching 
(Ivana Wong Yuen Chi).  In the nursing home take over operation, both 
sides caused a lot of trouble and the story had tears within laughter.
	Lam Man Chung racked his brains and jammed with comedy experts 
Cheung Kai Chung, Wong Yuen Chi.  The life risking comedy action actor Bob 
personally jumped into the sea a dozen or times, he truly almost burst 
out in foul language from all the jumps!  He also invited the heavyweight 
Big Brother Big Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Tian Nui rolling around in bed and 
playing the flute, and sexy goddess Sister Bobo (Xenia Chong Shui Yi) in 
an extra small bikini.  The film had no special effect, no stunt double, 
just comedy with Hong Kong "domestic culture".  The one minute teaser 
already was full of laughs!

1. TA KUNG PAO, JANUARY 24 2019, EAST AND WEST FILM
SHADOW HAS DIFFICULT BECOMING KAGEMUSHA 

	Political figures' use of someone with resemblance to them as 
doubles in disguise have been recorded in Chinese and foreign history.  
The most famous case probably was the Japanese warring nation era's 
Daimyo, Takeda Shingen.  The story his double use was known to the 
audience around the world due to Akira Kurosawa's KAGEMUSHA, which has 
become synonymous with body double and widely recognized.  In Chinese 
films, the shadow double in general would appear in wuxia films, 
Kagemusha in historical films is very rare.  Zhang Yimou's new film 
SHADOW is the story of these rarely seen shadow body doubles. - HUNG KWONG
	The SHADOW story takes place in a fictional ancient world, an 
era when war was rampant.  The state of Pei's commander Zi Yu was 
determined to win back the enemy occupied territory of Jingzhou.  The king 
of Pei under the guise of peace formed an alliance with the enemy to save 
his nation.  Zi Yu privately set a duel date with the Jingzhou enemy 
general Yang Cong to determine the sovereignty of Jingzhou in a one on 
one fight, thus angering the king and was striped of his rank......
actually the real Zi Yu's health took a turn for the worse after being 
injured by Yang Cong and has hidden himself away long ago, commanding his 
shadow double Jingzhou to wander the court and plan the invasion of 
Jingzhou.
	The problem was, losing his identity since childhood Jingzhou was 
no match for Yang Cong.  He was only an orphan in Zi Yu's plan to defeat 
the enemy.  He had to determine how to survive, which became the greatest 
dramatic conflict.
	
Creating An Ink Wash Scenery
	Although the story of SHADOW was set in a fictional time and 
space, but viewers with slightly knowledge of Chinese historical stories 
could tell that it came from the Three Kingdoms era as a variation of 
the Eastern Wu's fight to get back Jingzhou.  Zi Yu was a mix of Eastern 
Wu's great generals like Zhou Yu, Lu Meng.  The weapons that Yang Cong and 
his son used were green dragon crescent blade, and the name of territory 
in dispute was a homophone......director Zhang Yimou not only added in 
the element of a shadow body double into htis power struggle story but 
also transitioned this ancient war subject into the wuxia film 
formula.  The entire plan of taking Jingzhou hinged on being able to 
withstand the hard to soft Yang clan blade style for three rounds, the 
creation of innovative weapon for thd duel made the entire film even more 
like a wuxia film.
	However, the story of the Deng Chao played characters (Zi Yu, 
Jingzhou) still focused on the power struggle inside the nation of Pei.  
At the same time, because it was a fictional time and space, Zhang Ymou 
designed a fantasy environment for the state of Pei and Jingzhou.  The 
entire film's color tone went against his past heavy style with light and 
simple visuals like ink wash painting effects, which leaned the film from 
content to format toward an almost abstract direction.

The Twist Lacks Surprise
	Speaking of which, whether the real body double story in history 
or the Kagemusha in movies or novels, the target of the con in general 
would be a first time or rarely seen enemy.  Like SHADOW, Zi Yu aside 
from several every intimate family members (Madame Zi Yu) had to fool 
everyone.  Perhaps it was the most exaggerated body double story in film 
history.  Even in Akira Kurosawa's KAGEMUSHA, the protagonist as the body 
double still had several key player in command next to him.  He had to 
fool the general soldiers, citizens and enemy spies, unlike SHADOW's 
Jingzhou who had to fool people who knew him for years.  No one around him 
could give him any advice, as he completely relied on his own genius!
	Actually, the director did not spend too much thought into this 
concept of a "double".  Jingzhou was like Gu Long wuxia novel 
protagonists, a master as soon as he appeared.  As long as the director 
said he was very convincing then he was.  How someone who grew up in 
secrecy in a dark dungeon be in the same shape as a general who has fought 
on the battlefield for years, no one should bother asking.  Zhang Yimou 
focused on displaying the double's inner struggle, to return to his real 
life or find a chance to take over the other identity and his wife?
	The director spent a lot of effort into twisting the plot between 
several sides back and forth to create surprise.  After the baptism from 
Gu Long novels and palace series, the "weathered" audience would expect 
such twists so the resulting surprise would be limited.  The overly 
direct characterization, despite the actors already putting in quite an 
effort into their performance, still resembled the one or two dots like 
fishermen in the ink wash painting scenery -- with only a blurry 
impression.

2. TA KUNG PAO, JANUARY 24 2019, LIGHT SHADOW PATH
FILM STORY AND REALITY 

	By chance I read in a film critic's writing, saying that "in order 
to tell a good story, no variation is far from its origin.  Traditional 
effort actually is necessary.  People who use innovation as excuses for 
their films instead of learning traditional skills actually give 
themselves a way out for their own failure."
	The film medium already has an over a century old history.  The 
so-called traditional storytelling methods also keep innovating but do 
no change much, because methods for human to receive information and 
emotions do not change much.  Some creators treat their work's flaws or 
mistakes as innovation, which is due to the lack of a firm foundation; 
the even greater problem is they do not know this is the reason.  Below 
are a few frequently seen examples of the "innovation" argument.
	In some stories, none of the characters moves the audience 
emotionally.  Thus someone suggests that none of the characters is 
lovable.  The creator of course immediately fought back, "Why do the 
characters have to be lovable?  Does everyone have to be lovable?"  
He did not understand that someone lovable did not have to be a good guy, 
the person could be crazy, brave, funny or pitiful.  Here the meaning of 
lovable is wide, the character that can be cared about, concerned, and 
can be relate to.  In the story not everyone has to be lovable, if no one 
is able to move the audience emotionally the only movie it may be is 
special effect action films.  Yet good special effect action films still 
cannot be without this element.
	When some stories made some people unusually dumb but others 
excessively mighty without giving reasonable explanations, some would 
ask why they were so unreasonable.  The creator usually would answer with 
"I am not making a formula movie".   In other words, characters or plots 
that were reasonable and easy for the audience to accept would be called 
"formulaic".  Thus appear plots like frail women defeating tough guys, 
and the police getting information about the crime slower than the 
ordinary person.  Of course they also lack reason or explanation that 
would set them up.
	If you have to explain why someone weak can defeat the strong or 
have surprising abilities, you must put in the work.  This is an important 
part of creating.  For example JURASSIC PARK spent 20 minutes to explain 
the dinosaur gene hereditary and formation.  Yet some creators would 
question "something like this wouldn't happen in reality".  When ideas 
that they created are not reasonable and neglect reality, sometimes they 
would use reality to object to other people's creation because they do 
not know (or forget) story creation have certain rules.  The most 
important is to make the audience believe and understand so they can 
relate to the story.
	Does the world have mobsters with righteous spirit?  Probably not, 
but A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON SIK)'s Mark Gor was a classic.  
Would someone cultivate young mob members to sneak into the police 
force?  Why would anyone bother?  Yet INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH)'s 
story was intriguing.  Storytelling must make people believe.  When 
something was unimaginable became convincing, then the creation was 
good.  Of course reasoning that was easy to understand and wonderfully 
used required long term training and continuous examining. - TIN LIK

3. TA KUNG PAO, JANUARY 24 2019, THE WEEK IN FILM 
GLASS LANDS ON TOP IN HONG KONG AND THE U.S. 

	With two weeks away from the New Spring, the season remained 
light before this golden period.  Last week the Hong Kong box office was 
HK$ 22.61 million, close to the previous week with only HK$ 140,000 less.  
At the box office, the new release GLASS came in first.  The Indian 
American director M. Night Shyamalan after SPLIT teamed up with James 
McAvoy again as he played multiple characters; AQUAMAN fell one spot to 
second place; GREEN BOOK firmly stayed in third; BUMBLEBEE came in fourth; 
the newly released comedy INSTANT FAMILY came in fifth.
	As for other new films, the Clint Eastwood directed and starred 
THE MULE made HK$ 410,000 in eleventh place; the Zhang Yimou directed 
SHADOW made HK$ 260,000 in sixteenth place, with advanced screenings it 
made HK$ 290,000.  This film earlier opened in the Mainland in September 
last year and made 626.21 million RMB; the Korean film DEFAULT made HK$ 
160,000 in twentieth place.  This film opened in Korea in November last 
year and made 30,657,050,000 won; the late Mainland director Hu Bo's 
final film AN ELEPHANT SITTING STILL made HK$ 40,000 in twenty eighth 
place.
	This week eight new films will open, among them the Herman Yau 
Lai To directed Lunar New Year film A HOME WITH A VIEW (GA WOR MAN SI 
GAING) will break out the gate early with Francis Ng Chun Yu and Louis Koo 
Tin Lok; making 13,887,670,000 won in Korea, the ALONG WITH THE GODS 
star Ha Jung-woo starred action flm TAKE POINT will be rather attractive; 
the Bi Gan directed, Tang Wei starred LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT won 
three Golden Horse Awards; this film opened earlier this year in the 
Mainland and made 281.03 million RMB; the Jennifer Lopez starred SECOND 
ACT, GONE GIRL's Rosamund Pike starred A PRIVATE WAR, the crime film 
AMERICAN ANIMALS, the Belgian film SINK OR SWIM and the Japanese film 
WE MAKE ANTIQUES! will also open.
	At the Mainland box office, BUMBLEBEE and THE BIG SHOT firmly 
remained in first and second place.  The animated film WHITE SNAKE rose 
one spot to third, the newly released thriller ESCAPE ROOM came in 
fourth; KILL MOBILE fell two spots to fifth place.
	Among other new releases, MORTAL ENGINES made 28.31 million RMB in 
sixth place.  This film opened early last month in Hong Kong and made HK$ 
9.76 million; A DOG'S WAY HOME made 19.93 million RMB in seventh place, 
with advanced screenings it made 19.97 million RMB.  This film opened last 
week in Hong Kong and made HK$ 2.01 million; the animated film BOONIE 
BEAR: BLAST INTO THE PAST made 15.02 million RMB in ninth place.

  The mobile chat group "Pat Poh [Nosy Bitches]" comprises six girls and
  two boys. They were once very close, but then Inspector May therein
  found that her bosom friend Isabel had an affair with her boyfriend.
  Moreover, the internet celebrity, Rosalin, has written everyone else's
  love secrets into a book and published it. For all such reasons, members

  Morikazu Kumagai (aka Mori) was born in 1880 and became one of Japan's
  most celebrated 20th-century painters. His gift for painting was
  recognized very early on in his career but the opinions of critics and
  fame were never his priority. His sporadic output didn't result in
  sales. He didn't own a house and survived with friends' help until the
  age of 50 when his paintings began to sell and he could at last support
  his family. The Emperor was full of admiration for a Kumagai painting he
  saw at the prestigious Nika Art Exhibition. This brought recognition to
  Kumagai who was known as the "hermetic sage with a paintbrush" but
  Kumagai twice turned down the Emperor's Japanese order of Culture award.
  The reason he gave for declining these awards was that he was already
  receiving too many visitors. True to his reclusive nature, he barely
  left his 60-square-meter home for 30 years. He didn't have to because he
  observed animals and plants in his little garden. This movie is based on
  an actual account; it depicts one day in his twilight years when he
  never left home.

  The music documentary "L.O.V.E. in F.R.A.M.E.S." is directed by Cheung
  Kit Bong, one of the backing vocalists of DUO band. It captures the
  behind-the-scenes of the "DUO Eason Chan Concert" between 2010 and 2012
  and the making of the album "L.O.V.E." in England, Guangzhou and Hong
  Kong over six years. 

  The two-year "DUO Eason Chan Concert" is a tour of 66 concerts. During
  the tour, all members of the DUO band turned from strangers to friends,
  they have even become indispensable partners of each other. Together
  they created lots of unforgettable moments that were captured in this
  documentary: The cheeky drummer Jun Kung scared people around with his
  creepy mask during the recording; The pianist Anthony Sun was so excited

  ("The Sleep"). These destructive issues are the results of our present

[ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ]
  Captain Ahab, who works for private military company Black Lizard, is
  tasked with carrying out a top secret mission for CIA. His mission is to
  infiltrate a secret underground bunker 30m below Korean DMZ and take out
  a target. The mission immediately derails when the target turns out to
  be none other than Supreme Leader of North Korea himself, who has
  incredibly high bounty on his head. Ahab and his 12 men go in for the
  jackpot against CIA’s wishes. Unbeknownst to them, another PMC squad is
  after the same target and Ahab has to work around CIA’s aerial strikes
  that put him and his men in immediate and present danger. The bunker is
  demolished and Ahab is in critical condition. When the Supreme Leader
  suffers a devastating injury, he has no choice but to team up with an
  elite North Korean doctor to not only save himself but his target and

unanimous praise from critics and has topped numerous best-of lists.
	A celebrated literary figure in South Korea whose fiction earned 
him accolades well before his foray into cinema, Lee writes and directs 
harrowing tales that place his characters in extreme psychological and 
physical agony to test the limits of the human spirit. An elderly woman at 
the onset of Alzheimer’s confronts her grandchild's utter indifference to 
morality in Poetry (2010); a single mother endures a cascade of tragedies 
in Secret Sunshine (2007); a man suffers the forces of South Korea's 
tumultuous history in Peppermint Candy (1999). His tightly structured 
plotlines deliver unflinching exposés of pain, trauma, and rage. He 
appears to follow conventional genre tropes, from melodrama to noir and 
gangster flicks, only to subvert audience expectations with exceptionally 
complex stories that leave them to contemplate perplexing existential, 
spiritual, and moral questions.
	Lee was born in Daegu in 1954 to a leftist family. He hoped to 
become a painter at a young age but made a name for himself in the theater 
and literary worlds. He was almost 40 when he turned to filmmaking, 
beginning as a screenwriter and assistant director for Park Kwang-su, a 
key figure of the Korean New Wave of the late 1980s and 1990s. Between 
making Oasis (2002) and Secret Sunshine (2007), from 2003 to 2004, Lee 
served as South Korea’s Minister of Culture and Tourism.
	This retrospective includes all six films written and directed by 
Lee.
