MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/11/23) Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) worked with Joseph Chang in the new flm SKY ON FIRE (CHUNG TIN FOR). He revealed that when he got into the business he wanted to work with director Ringo Lam Lan Tung already, but at the time he announced his retirement. He waited for 18 years. When he was first invited to work on SKY, Daniel did not even look at the script before deciding to perform. He said, "This film is different from Director Lam's previous crime films. My character doesn't work for any government agency, he just purely protects what he feels deserves protecting." Daniel said that although he got hurt the film was a lot of fun. The scene in which he was completely outside a vehicle to catch Joseph Chang was memorable. "Because all the stunts are real, the director and I believe the audience would be more engaged with real action. Although it was dangerous it would also be exciting!" * (2016/11/23) Stephy Tang Lai Yun and director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) yesterday attended their film L FOR LOVE, L FOR LIE TOO (SUT LUEN YUT)'s promotional event. She said that when she saw the trailer that she felt that when she made this movie several months ago she was very fat and clumsy. Stephy revealed that lately she has been hurting all over because she has been practicing karate for her new film KARATE (HUNG SAU DOH). Because she will have to work on a fight in the ring with a third degree black belt karate master and the shoot needed to be done in two minutes straight, she could not use a double. Stephy said, "In the scene I will lose and take a beating, earlier I really got a little dizzy when someone punched me. Thus fighting is fighting, but it would be the best not to hit the face. I have to know how to block too!" Stephy said that she too wanted to spend time to learn karate. Would she like to become an action actress? She said, "I have always been athletic, only I didn't have the chance to show my strong suit. After being praised for having the potential, I started to become confident!" She even said that she wanted to learn swordplay. She thought that the fairy in the movie looked very pretty, perhaps even learning swordplay would not be useful. Yet making movie may require it. * (2016/11/22) Legendary star of a generation Hsia Moon was known as the Great Princess of the Great Wall Three Princesses. She passed away on the 28th at the age of 83. Her family wanted a low key affair for her funeral. Mass was held around 1:30PM at a Stanley church. Around 2:30PM a memorial took place at the American Club Hong Kong at Central. Director Ng See Yuen, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Chow Chung and others attended the memorial. Ng See Yuen said, "I have known Hsia Moon for years. I have seen her at many film events. She was great to talk to, I really admire her. She was my idol because she was pretty, her movies were popular and most primarily because of her dignified character. She had quite a temperament and demeanor. Later she became a producer and made BOAT PEOPLE and HOMECOMING. Neither film was easy to make, BOAT PEOPLE in particular. Under the political climate at the time, being able to make it was not easy." Ng See Yuen felt that Hsia Moon's achievement was worthy of everyone's respect. She not only performed well with her acting and producing, her demeanor was the most important. Even after she rose to stardom she did not think that she was a big deal. Her character was respected. Hsia Moon's film and interview videos were shown at the memorial. A lot of Hsia Moon's film stills and photos were on display. Hsia Moon's son, daughter and grandchildren were present. * (2016/11/22) Best Actor Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Law Chung Him yesterday through the film company announced their participation in the new Filmko film THE MONKEY KING 3 (SAI YAU GEI: NUI YI GOK). They will continue to play their roles in THE MONKEY KING 2 (SAI YAU GEI ji SUEN NG HUNG SAM DA BAK GWUT JING) as Sun Wukong and the Sand Monk. Sing Sng currently is studying his costume and script. Him Jai said that his marriage with Tavia Yeung Yi has made him more mature, which would be even more helpful with mastering his characters. He also has begun working out for the film and has already lost 10 pounds. * (2016/11/22) Kara Wai Ying Hung recently challenged her horror film bottom line agan. She, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, KANO's Taiwan actor Tsao Yu-Ning, Angie Shum Yat Ka, Janelle Sing Kwan and others headed to haunted locations in Thailand for their film BINDING SOUL (BONG LING). Earlier the team held a simple but elegant production start worship ceremony. The actors prayed for a smooth production. Sister Siu Hung has worked with Chan Ka Lok many times already. She said that each time they worked with each other they would set off new spark. Sister Siu Hung said, "We have worked together many times, earlier we worked together on a comedy, then a social melodrama. This time we worked together on a ghost film for the first time. Each time I work with him the characters are different. With other actors, each time feels fresh." Sister Siu Hung also praised Chan Ka Lok's acting for improving a lot from before. "On my first day, the director has already praised him for getting it. His acting is much more mature." * (2016/11/21) Kevin Cheng Ka Wing, Max Zhang Jin, Annie Liu (Lai Sum Yau), Endy Chow Kwok Yin, Marsha Yuan Chi Wai and former UFC middle weight MMA champion Anderson Silva yesterday worked on the film DRAGON TATTOO (GAU LUNG BUK BAI), Ka Wing who has not made a movie in awhile will play a Macau cop. He revealed that he will not need to fight. He and Sum Yau's romance would only be hinted at. Lau Sum Yau in the film will play a new age Chinese medicine practitioner. Before the shoot she followed a friend to a Chinese medical clinic to learn the diagnosis process and pulse taking. Zhang Jin revealed that in the film he will have a lot of fight scene. Earlier they already shot a scene. He said that his co-star was used to MMA but had little acting experience. Early on his co-star was worried about hurting others. However he praised his co-star as a very powerful motor. He advised him to go as far as possible under safe conditions. Has he gotten hurt? He said, "A few bruises are to be expected. Although I was hurting all over, I had a lot of fun." * (2016/11/21) Karena Lam Ka Yun yesterday attended a children's book press conference. She revealed that on Saturday night she will attend the Golden Horse Award, at which her HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) co-star Jacky Cheung Hok Yau was nominated for Best Actor. Did her invitation to present have any special meaning? Ka Yun said, "I don't know, the event arranged for it. (Are you confident that Hok Yau would win?) I don't know, everyone seem great. I haven't watched other movies, I have only watched the trailers." * (2016/11/20) Taiwan actor Wu Kexi with the film THE ROAD TO MADALAY was nominated for the Golden Horse Best Actress award. In the film she even had a close up shot with a giant lizard. The lizard jumped to bed and scared the workers. Although Wu Kexi was afraid she did not stop as she "waited for the director to yell cut". Wu Kexi said that for the lizard scene, the trainer stressed that the lizard was given instruction in Thai. It would follow its route. She even expected that as soon as the shoot began, the lizard jumped on to the bed. The Thai workers kept screaming. Luckly the Taiwanese cinematographer was steady. Several shots that were shot then appeared in the film. Wu Kexi really was afraid. She said, "But I cannot impossible give up. The film is already 2/3 into its shoot. We put in so much effort before, unless the director yells cut I would keep going." * (2016/11/19) Artists Tsui Tin Yau, Shirley Chan Yan Yin, Joey Tang and director and producer Charlie Wong Wing Fung two nights ago attended the film I MISS YOU (MOOT YAU PONG MAN DIK HAU TIN) production wrap banquet. Tin Yau said, "I have never worked on so many crying scenes. Normally I watch zombie movie more. So I took some lessons from MY LOVE FROM THE STAR. Once the director said that we were adding a crying scene, I immediately went to a corner to cultivate my emotions. (Did you also have many intimate scenes?) Embraces. The director wanted the movie to be more innocent. Even foul language wasn't pretended. This time the actors improvised a lot of the lines, it was pretty fresh!" Chan Yan Yin said, "I watched Zhou Dongyu in LOVE UNDER THE HAWTHORN TREE as research. At the beginning I had pressure, later as son as I thought of Tin Yau's ending in the film my emotions would arrive. I had a scene in which I went from no tear to crying in half a minute, it was very memorable!" * (2016/11/19) The 53rd Golden Horse Award will take place next Saturday. The event yesterday released photos with the Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress nominees with a miniature Golden Horse award. Fan Bingbing covered her face with it; Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Zhou Dongyu and Ma Sichen all kissed it; Feng Xiaogang put it in his pocket. * (2016/11/18) The Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Ge You, Jung Yong-Hwa, Tiffany Tang Yan, Bai Bing starred Emperor motion picture COOK UP A STORM (FUNG MEI GONG WU ji KUET JIN SIK SUN) yesterday released two concept posters and officially confirmed a Lunar New Year's Day release on January 28th 2017. The concept poster's subject was plain Chinese noodle, but the utensils are a pair of fork and knife -- hinting that the film will display the fierce conflict between Chinese and Western cuisine culture. * (2016/11/18) Veteran artist Nina Paw Hee Ching in the family film SHOW ME YOUR LOVE (SIU SAU YIN DAI SAU) played Raymond Wong Ho Yin's mother. Michelle Wai Sze Nga played her character in her youth, a lower class but strong mother who would risk everything to protect her son. Speaking of playing the same character, Sister Bau said, "I was very curious who they would get to play the younger me? I take one look, Wow! She actually is Sze Nga. She is very pretty! Her acting is good too!" Sze Nga humbly said that she did not deserve that. "I went online to see photos of Sister Bau in her youth. Actually we look very much alike!" In the film Sister Bau and Ho Yin's relationship became estranged. Sister Bau became sick in her old age and Ho Yin fulfilled her wishes for her. They thus began to understand each other anew with a lot of tear jerking scenes in between. Sister Bau said, "Ho Yin and I have a lot of family scenes. He has to carry me. He is very big and carries me very well! The most memorable is in one scene he sings WHENEVER CHANGE COMES to me. After so many years of acting, this scene is one of the most touching. I just keep on crying. The character of course is different from me in real life! My daughter and I are very close, but after reading the script when I see the moment when my son finally forgives myself I feel extra touched!" As for being "promoted" to play Mommy, Sze Nga stated that at first she was rather worried. Luckily she got along very pleasantly with the eight year old Malaysian child star, who was super smart and kissed up to her. Sze Nga said that she was completely melted. "He is very cute. On the second day he is already stuck to me. He says, 'You have already stolen my heart, but you don't have to return it to me. Just let it stay with you!' Wow! He can't be more grown up. On the last day he even gives me a bracelet. He is super sweet and immediately makes me want to have one! (Do you have any plan to have a baby?) At any time! You can't plan stuff like that. I absolutely will get married in a flash, I wouldn't say I would wait until marriage to have a baby." No wonder Sze Nga said that it was hard to yell at her cute son in the film than using foul language. "My heart aches as soon as I saw his cute face, how can I yell at him? That scene in which I have to abandon him is very touching! Actually I watch Sister Bau's part earlier, it is very heart warming and everyone was in tears!" * (2016/11/18) King of comedy Michael Hui Koon Man's son Hui See-Wai through directing the documentary THE POSTERIST saluted the film poster artist Yuen Tai-Yung. Also for the 40th anniversary of PRIVATE EYE BLUES (BOON GUNG BAK LEUNG) he brought back more nostalgia from the Hong Kong film golden age. Speaking of why he made the film, See-Wai said that one day he received Mama's "order" to clean up Papa's company warehouse. he discovered among the dusty junk many classic film's posters and film. "Even the film's chemical went bad, I called Daddy and Mommy. Daddy actually said just throw them all out!" Michael said, "I really said that? But it really was rotten, as long as we have a DVD back up it's fine!" See-Wai felt that this part of history should be documented. The final decision was to properly "bury" this treasure at the Hong Kong Film Archive. Was it difficult to find the reclusive poster master Yuen Tai-Yung? See-Wai stated that it was extremely difficult. "He immigrated many years ago. (Clifton) Ko Chi Sum, (Philip) Chan Yun Kin, and (Eric) Tsang Chi Wai had no idea how to find him." Finally he discovered that actually he has already returned to Hong Kong and even found a social media account. After several months of contact he was able to invite him to return. Did Michael feel proud that her son had a "good show"? He said, "He might have just gotten lucky! However I really feel that he is very creative. He says that almost all of my movies have posters that Yuen Tai-Yung created, but I only had one meeting with him. Speaking of which I really feel I owe Yuen Tai-Yung an apology!" See-Wai also revealed that Papa "guest starred" In the film. He arranged for him to meet Yuen Tai-Yung again. Michael immediately claimed that he was "set up". "Even I didn't know about this guest starring role! He said why don't you come back to the office for a chat later, as soon as I opened the door Yuen Tai-Yung was right there!" Speaking of Michael's Golden Horse Best Actor Award nomination for GODSPEED, he said that even if he won it probably would be a "lifetime achievement award". "38 years ago I was nominated, I thought that I would have many more after that but I didn't. I think they know I won't have another 38 years so on a humanitarian level they would give me the award." He also revealed that because of his poor Mandarin, during the delivery of long dialogues he often messed up in the end. "After the shoot, the director told me to stay another night to shoot the first day's scenes again. He said then he would take me out for dinner and drinks. In the end he used the last shot, actually he didn't accept the first day's work!" See-Wai also said, "His Mandarin really is pretty bad!" Speaking of Michael's renowned "machine gun mouth", did See-Wai feel Papa speak too fast? He said, "He isn't so fast in everyday life, usually he just says the same few things over and over. 'Where are we going to dinner?' 'Do we have any fish?' Michael joked, "Do I have fish all the time?" * (2016/11/18) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen, Cally Kwong Mei Wan and Angie Chiu Nga Chi last night attended a magazine anniversary event. Having worked on her new film LOVE OFF THE CUFF (CHUN GIU GAU JI MING) all day, Chin Wa said that despite years apart the team still had chemistry. The production has been comfortable and peaceful. Did she have any intimate scene? She said, "It's ordinary couple in bed scenes, but no kissing." Did her husband mind her making intimate scene? Chin Wa said, "He has been very supportive of my work, but as an Aquarius I overthink things. If he doesn't say anything I would be scared instead." Chin Wa also looked forward to the LOVE film series continuation, but she first wanted to find a way to stay young forever. * (2016/11/18) The Lunar New Year film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) two nights ago held its wrap banquet. Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, former Raidas member Chan Tak Cheung and Manfred Wong (Man Jun) attended. Michael Hui Koo Man, Sam Hui Koon Kit, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi also shot videos to show their support. Ah Tan two nights ago attended with his daughters Zaneta Cheng Yiu and Cheng Min attended. He said when he made the first film, his wife and two daughters guest starred. At the time the younger one was still in Mommy's belly. Earlier when the film was on re-run, his daughters watched it and immediately said they wanted to perform again. He thought that this time since he wrote, directed and starred himself he was in full control. He arranged for them to played office workers who rolled their eyes at the boss after getting yelled at. Because they excelled at rolling their eyes at him at home, their performance was great. During the group photo, Sister Na held Ah Tan's hand and whispered, "I haven't held hand in a very long time!" Ah Tan arranged for a kiss scene and a bath scene, he even jokingly asked Sister Na how much did she love him. Sister Na said, "Thank you Brother Tan for giving me a chance to strip together!" Ah Tan revealed that in the film he had 360 degree kiss scene with Sister Na, who revealed that Brother Tan almost fainted. Ah Tan explained, "That was because we had to keep spinning while kissing. Sister Na even said that she didn't perform well and deliberately took several more takes!" Ah Tan even said that his daughters were present for the kiss scene shoot. He deliberately pushed the kiss scene all the way to the end. His daughters could not wait any longer and left. Later he showed them the footage and "passed inspection". Ah Tan said, "With so many people on the set, how could anyone enjoy it? I only hope that the daughter saw me at work and not think the Old Man was taking advantage of the actors!" Sister Na also said that it was the first time she had a spinning kiss and thought it was very romantic. Ah Tan also invited Chan Tak Cheung to sing FALLEN with him for the film theme song. He agreed right away. As for the Lunar New Year release, Ah tan said that he only found out two days in the production. He then immediately called in all his favors and invited guest stars like Dior Cheng Yi Kin and the Grasshoppers. Speaking of the Lunar New Year competition like Stephen Chow Sing Chi, he said that although they were in a different class his film was 100% Hong Kong film. He also had confidence that the audience would support it. * (2016/11/17) Singer Kellyjackie Chan Hiu Kei, actor Ronan Pak Kin Yan and Singapore actress Angie P. two nights ago attended their film LOVE STALK (OI DA KA) premiere. Kellyjackie in the film played a mean girl. In real life has she run into a cheating boyfriend? She said, "It was a transitional period problem. Maybe the relationship hasn't been taken care of and he was with someone else. It hurt a lot, so my first record's songs had a lot of negative energy. Some friends after listening to my songs broke up, they were like cursed!" [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, NOVEMBER 18 2016, THE WEEK IN FILM DR. STRANGE EXTENDS ITS LEAD Last week's Hong Kong box office was HK$ 4.88 million less than the week before, obviously the six new films did not bring any new impact. DOCTOR STRANGE remained firmly on top with HK$ 9.79 million, over three weeks it accumulated HK$ 54.06 million, a decent sign on the eve of the Christmas slot; in second place was the newly released super popular Japanese animated film YOUR NAME. with HK$ 6.14 million. This film reigned supreme in the Japanese film industry this year, as soon as it left the border it showed signs of discomfort. No matter how strong the buzz was, the box office reaction has only been average. This film opened in Taipei last month, after one week in first place DOCTOR STRANGE knocked it off the throne. Over four weeks it made NT$ 76.41 million, not a blockbuster hit mark. Opening the week before, INFERNO made HK$ 4.09 million in third place. Over two weeks it made HK$ 10.24 million; DreamWorks Animation's TROLLS made HK$ 1.5 million in fourth place, over two weeks it made HK$ 3.39 million. The result was somewhat disappointing. The new thriller THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN made HK$ 1.44 million in fifth place, with advanced screenings it made HK$ 1.47 million in an average showing. The Ang Lee directed BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK made HK$ 1.31 million in sixth place. Although the film was unable to be shown in its original format in Hong Kong, this film's subject was unable to pique the audience' interest even with director Ang Lee. This film also opened last week in Taiwan and made NT$ 30 million and topped the Taipei box office with NT$ 16.04 million. In comparison to Hong Kong, Ang Lee was a better draw in Taiwan. As for other new films, the Japanese film RAGE made HK$ 580,000 in eighth place; the Japanese film MOZU THE MOVIE made HK$ 30,000 in twenty-third place. In the Mainland, DOCTOR STRANGE still led with 270 million RMB in first place. Over two weeks it made 571 million RMB; BILLY LYNN'S LONG HALFTIME WALK opened with 81 million RMB in second place, more popular than in Taiwan and Hong Kong; the Japanese animated film ONE PIECE FILM GOLD made 69.8 million RMB in third place; Korean director Ahn Byeong-Ki's Mainland comedy SCANDAL MAKER with Tong Dawei, Michelle Chen and Li Yuncong made 34.9 million in fourth place and a disappointing showing; in its third week MR. DONKEY made 28.8 million RMB in fifth place, over three weeks it made 163.12 million RMB with a little momentum. Among other new films, the Amreican action comedy KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES made 11.1 million RMB in seventh place; the Hong Kong director Alfred Cheung Kin Ting directed, Kevin Cheng Ka Wing and Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) starred family film POOR RICH DAD made 3.22 million RMB in fourteenth place. - LAM KAM BO 2. TA KUNG PAO, NOVEMBER 17 2016, ASIAN FILMS YOUR NAME: YOUNG LOVE IS PRETTY AS A PICTURE This year has particularly many Asian film topics. Some despite film companies' efforts in promotional strategies still have disappointing results; some more or less by chance not only become big hits at home but also in the surrounding markets. Japanese animation director Makoto Shinkai's new film YOUR NAME. undoubtedly is the latter. This film not only made almost 20 billion yen at the Japanese box office and opening at first place in Hong Kong last week, everything about it has also become the talk of the town. - HUNG KWONG About the two protagonists in YOUR NAME., one is Mitsuha Miyamizu, a high school girl who lives in a small town in the hills and the other is Taki Tachibana, a guy who lives in the bustling city of Tokyo. Mitsuha is tired of the quiet small town life and her family's witch heritage and longs to live in the city. Her wish is "to become a handsome guy in Tokyo in the next life!" One day, she truly sees herself as a guy in her dream. When she awakes up she finds herself in an unfamiliar room, with friends she does not know and the streets of Tokyo that she has been dreaming of. Taki Tachibana has always been having strange dreams. He arrives in a strange small town in the hills and becomes a high school girl. They realize that their identities have been swapped as two young people who have never met each other begin a wonderful relationship. Mitsuha with a female soul helps Taki get close to the elder colleague he likes, while Taki enables Mitsuha to show masculinity that she never had before. Everything behind this actually started with a comet that returns every 1,200 years approaches Earth...... Identity Exchange in A Dream This film has a rather complicated plotline, but actually the entire concept is nothing particularly new. Identity switch between a guy and a girl is already nothing new long ago, identity switch in a dream may be a little newer. When the film reaches its second half, the audience and the male protagonist finally realizes that the time and the space they switch actually are not the same. In between is a difference of three years, in the end the story develops into a going back to the past to save the future idea. The audience today accepts a variety of time travel ideas, even if they do not truly understand ideas like parallel universes and Mobiusband. As for meeting in a dream, it is a gimmick that already existed as far back as in classical Chinese opera like THE PEONY PAVILION. YOUR NAME. probably truly touches the audience in its detailed depictions of young people's inner world and everyday life. With its extreme realistic drawing style, the film creates a light as air mood that the audience strongly relates to. However, the life that this film captures actually is just like the massive amount of "realistic" Japanese films in recent years. It just lightly touches upon the surface like cotton candy. On the other hand, its use of its musical score, like the Japanese film that is released in Hong Kong in the same week, RAGE, is heavy and excessive in its musical choice. It seems to worry that the audience does not know how strong its musical team is, which instead gives the film a third rate conventional series flavor. This film's hot box office performance perhaps also has to do with the so-called "girl power" in the film because while being popular with young female viewers, traditional animation audience and creators have said that this film is not special at all and they do not understand what is entertaining about this film. Travel Detail Placement Perhaps, in comparison to the review of the film itself, the social phenomenon that YOUR NAME. has brought is even more interesting. The success of this film even turns the actual locations that it is based from into places for fan "pilgrimage". Before the film is even released, these places of pilgrimage have already become the topic of film promotion. Actually, turning film locations into tourist landmark has been a frequently seen way to promote certain places in Japan. The authorities in the 80s through director Nobuhiko Obayashi's film production there turned Onomichi, Hiroshima into a tourist city. The city's travel guide has various film location symbols. In recent years, Onomichi realizes that in the hearts of overseas tourists, the best known "Onomichi movie" is Yasujiro Ozu's TOKYO STORY. Thus the latest promotional film is no longer about I ARE YOU, YOU AM ME (Nobuhiko Obayashi's male female body swapping film) but TOKYO STORY. YOUR NAME. during its production has already placed a lot of travel promotional details (like the local mascot), but in places like the Hida-Furukawa Station in Mitsuha's home are truly as the film says: a remote country with a train every two hours. When even a place like this becomes a pilgrimage hot spot, the film's success has been indirectly proven. Or perhaps you can say that the audience's attention has already gone to these side branch details. 3. TA KUNG PAO, NOVEMBER 17 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH WHEN ACTORS ACT UP Although excellent scripts do not have to worry about the lack of actors, finding actors with box office draw is an expression of responsibility to investors. Unfortunately now young Hong Kong actors are few and Mainland's "young fresh meats" are very busy, many films that have already ready thus have to push back production. Half a year to a year is already considered short, some are postponed indefinitely. This situation in the industry has already persisted for awhile and seemingly has no sign of being resolved. Finding a hot actor has never been easy. Because most of these actors would take it easy on themselves, they turn down movies in tens or more. Yet the current situation is without an interpersonal network those red hot actors cannot even be contacted. If the film's director or producer is not a famous filmmaker, sometimes no response would be received. The manager even saves on the basic public relations process. Perhaps this group of actors is already very rich. When they run into filmmakers they cannot turn down to negotiate a deal, they may be very arrogant. They would blatantly state that since they do not have to worry about making a living they only want to do what they want. In other words "would you please convince me why I would take time from my busy schedule to make your movie?" They are not in any mood to discuss anything. In addition, before they even say they would take the role, they are the most concerned with who their co-stars would be instead of the script. The choice of co-stars has become the key to whether they would make the movie. If all the leads are thinking like this, like the question of "the chicken and the egg" it is just as hard to solve. Nowadays if "young fresh meat" participates in a movie, most would ask to become one of the investors. Most film companies would agree for a smooth production. Yet some actors are so ruthless that other people's investment would have to be adjusted anew and thus the project would implode. This is how the co-financing format works, if it works it works, if it does not it does not. A producer who has a long history with a certain actor's manager wants to hire one of the manager's actors for a movie. The manager says that he may have room on his schedule in October next year. The producer immediately says that the production can wait until October next year; but the manager says that he can only confirm in September next year whether he would have time in October. In other words, when they learn in September next year that the important job in October next year has been cancelled then you will be the first to know, otherwise they do not have time on their schedule. The producer does not know whether to laugh or to cry after hearing that and can only scrap the idea. The inability to find actors is not the greatest problem, the greatest problem is when an actor is a done deal but changes his mind as the production is about to start. Changes come in two varieties, one is to ask for more money right before the production starts. Since he knows you have to give in, he uses that as an excuse to make more. This is not the worst situation. The worst is when he uses a variety of reasons to turn down the film in the last minute and thus making the film unable to go into production. The current medium sized films are all productions that cost near 100 million. When a 100 million yuan investment project goes up in smoke just like that, how can anyone tolerate that? Actor is one of the film workers, he should care about the healthy growth of the film industry. Asking for actor ethics and moral responsibility would not be too much. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] BINDING SOUL Can : Bong Ling Kara Wai Ying Hung , Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Tsao Yu-Ning, Angie Shum Yat Ka, Janelle Sing Kwan PARADOX Can : Tam Long Lit : Greedy Wolf d.
