MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/10/26) The Lam Tsz Chung directed, Louis Cheung Kai Chung starred in the film SIU LUM JOOK KAU (LAUGHTER FOREST SOCCER). Chubby Chung spent ten years on the script, the stress of which gave him an upset stomach. Starting his career in comedy, he felt that making a comedy was not easy at all. On the internet a massive amounts of short films appear online, they have to be funnier to stand out for the audience. The film like Stephen Chow Sing Chi's SHAOLIN SOCCER was about soccer, but Chubby Chung stressed that the films would be completely different. As for the Chinese title he said, "It wasn't our decision, the distributor said that without this title it wouldn't be released. During the shoot it was called SING LEI SUP YUT YUN (VICTORY 11). It was very inspiration, now it has become funny and inspiration." Was he worried that the audience would make comparisons? Chubby Chung helplessly said, "If they want to compare them, I can't do anything about that. If the audience goes to it I believe they won't be disappointed, because the film is a very realistic and very timely tragedy. Only that it is told in the form of comedy." Started as a singer, Ah Chung's career did not show any sign of life. Then he jumped to television and became a comedy actor. The audience surprisingly accepted him. Ah Chung thus felt fortunate. So far he has been working on jobs that he liked. Whether it was acting or singing, he talked about life through different media. Chubby Chung felt that the story resembled Ah Chung. He uneasily persisted the first few years of his career, so now he is very successful." The film was in production in Guangzhou for over a month in March. Ah Chung joked that he was a Mama's boy, as he was done for whenever he left home. Luckily he had a pleasant working experience with actors from actors from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. * (2016/10/26) Ringo Lam Lan Tung and Danny Lee Sau Ying appeared in Shanghai and watched CITY ON FIRE (LUNG FU FUNG WON), which passed the Mainland inspection after almost 30 years. They also talked about the Hong Kong crime film genre with the audience. Before the screening, Lee Sau Yin told the audience that this was the first film of his in the past 30 years that was shown on the Mainland screen. He said, "In the 90s when I came to the Mainland, when people saw me they called me 'video Lee Sau Yin' because at the time they knew me through pirated videos......" Like Lee Sau Yin, Lam Lan Tung cherished this screening opportunity very much. Currently many people said "Hong Kong film is dead". To that Lam Lan Tung stated, "Hong Kong film is diving". With the Chinese film industry development, Lam Lan Tung and Lee Sau Yin both urged that good films needed a more free and open market to grow in. Speaking of Hong Kong film, Lam Lan Tung made a downward slide gesture. He said that Hong Kong film productions used to be low cost and the Mainland market has not opened yet. It relied on the traditional Southeast Asian market to rise. After the Mainland market opened, it became necessary to grab the Mainland market with pressure like box office and production cost increase. Thus more and more filmmakers made co-productions. "Co-productions have rules. 1/3 of the actors have to be from the Mainland and 1/3 has to come to work in the Mainland. Under this situation we have to make a lot of creative adjustments, because I have to explain why those 1/3 of the characters come to Hong Kong, how does this story happen, where is it going. They look very minor but to us creators they have a huge impact." While Hong Kong film faces development restrictions, to the two filmmakers the entire Chinese film industry also faces restrictions. Lee Sau Yin admitted, "American films can make whatever they want, even assassinating the President. Through film it is making money from the entire world, but Chinese film only rolls around in the domestic market. Because of too many restrictions in making movies in China, creative teams have their hands tied. If the free market is opened, Chinese film would be incredible! It can make money around the world. This is the real film industry." "If subjects are truly open, then so much can be made." Lam Lan Tung even said, "American films making money is no problem, but please pay attention that film is a cultural art business. Now basically American films rule the entire world. We all learn from the movies. This influence is too much!" * (2016/10/24) Artists Ava Liu (Yu Kiu) and Shaun Tam Chun Yin yesterday attended their new film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR)'s audience appreciation event. Playing a female cop in the film, Yu Kiu revealed that earlier when she took her mother to the movie she made a huge mistake. "After we went inside the commercials kept running. After half a hour I realized that I was in the wrong house. Mommy asked me if we go back there now would my scene be already over!" Tam Chun Yin remembers his car chase with Nicholas Tse Ting Fung in Thailand. "With a young son and wife, I would be more careful. With him, two of his three wheel vehicle's wheels were off the ground." Recently returning to Hong Kong and signing with TVB, he revealed that later he will shave his head for a Qing Dynasty costume series. "It's rare that they gave me an opportunity. This time I return to work in Hong Kong, 99% is for my daughter. I miss her. She just turned 1 and a half and starts to be mischievous." * (2016/10/24) Artists Xanadu Wu Xiaoxiao, Kiwi Yuen Kit Yee, Nick Ip Ka Bo and director Samuel Leong Sing Chi yesterday attended the film TOURNAMENT 2 (GIK DAU 2)'s premiere in Kowloon Tong. Sam announced a third installment. Xanadu wanted to join the new film and said that she would learn Muay Thai for action films. She revealed that most of her recent jobs required her to be less sexy but she said that she has never minded being that. She also wanted to learn kung fu. "Earlier when I worked with Sam Gor on LADY Z (SI SIU JEH) I played a dance escort but I still didn't have to be sexy. Now with fight scenes I could easily be bruised all over. So I want to learn Muay Thai for the fight scenes." Playing a teacher, Yuen Kit Yee after making the film regained her acting confidence. Earlier signing a year contract with TVB she revealed that she made two new series. She still had half a year left and hoped to renew her contract. "I hope more producers and directors can use former ATV people like us. I am very grateful!" Would living in Guangzhou be inconvenient for her unstable series production schedule? She revealed that once after work she missed her ride to Guangzhou so she did not even get to change. She also said that she would "brain wash" her husband for him to accept that she would not return home due to work. * (2016/10/24) The Wong Kar Wai produced, Zhang Jiajia directed film SEE YOU TOMORROW (BAI DOH YUN) yesterday held its premiere press conference in Beijing. Wong Kar Wai, Zhang Jiajia led Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Eason Chan Yik Shun, Angelababy, Sandrine Pinna (Cheung Yung Yung), Jennifer Du Juan, Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam), Da Peng, Ma Su, Cui Zhijia and Jia Ling in an appearance together. Wai Jai, Gum Sing Mo and Baby in the film turned their god and goddess images upside down. Wai Jai was even stumped by the dialogues this time. Wong Kar Wai revealed that Wai Jai could not say the line "love is acting foolish." Yesterday producer Wong Kar Wai, director Zhang Jiajia talked about the stories about the SEE YOU TOMORROW shoot. Zhang Jiajia recalled the first time she met Director Wong Kar Wai. "Director Wong Kar Wai asked me, what movie do you like? I said ASHES OF TIME and CHINESE ODYSSEY. Director Wong said, "Then do you want to make ASHES OF TIME or CHINESE ODYSSEY?' I said, "Can I use Chow Sing Chi's method to tell a Wong Kar Wai story?' Director Wong was quiet for awhile and said, 'Let me help you'." Zhang Jiajia even admitted that when he started making movies he did not believe in himself. He told his idol Wong Kar Wai, "When I make the movie, would you please be on the set from the beginning to the end" He never expected Wong Kar Wai to truly spend three years on the set, from the beginning to the end teaching him how to make a movie by hand. Thus, after 10 months of "madness", a very "Chow Sing Chi" but also very "Wong Kar Wai" movie arrived. This year happened to be Jet Tone's 25th anniversary. When Jet Tone released its first film, it was the Wong Kar Wai produced, Leung Chiu Wai, Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha), Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Tony Leung Ka Fai starred classic comedy EAGLE SHOOTING HEROES (DUNG SING SAI JAU). Now after 25 years, Wong Kar Wai produced another star studded comedy SEE YOU TOMORROW that will soon open. The meaning was extraordinary. Leung Chiu Wai, Gum Sing Mok, Angelababy appeared together. This was also the first public appearance for Baby since she announced her pregnancy. Three stills from film greatly discounted their god and goddess image. Wai Jai admitted that this time he not only turned his image upside down but also ran into language difficulty. In the film he not only had a lot of lines but also all Putonghua lines. Everyday as the director changed the script he practiced his lines anew. The challenge was enormous. Wong Kar Wai even revealed that Wai Jai could not deliver the line "love is acting foolish" in the film. Wai Jai was asked to say this line, but he declined. "Better not". Gum Sing Mo said that the production was very pleasant. "The director keep saying, I have to have the looks of a 18 year old. I did it several times but it was still wrong. However when I found that direction, the shoot was very pleasant." Baby in the film had a face full of clothes pins. She thought that the Ferryman had to be more vicious to herself, she had to feel what others feel. Speaking of working with Wong Kar Wai and Zhang Jiajia she said, "Each time when I couldn't go on, I would tell myself, I have to be more vicious to myself, I can't disappoint the director for giving me a chance. I really risked my life over these ten months." Wong Kar Wai was very pleased with Baby's performance this time. "Among actors I have worked with, I feel the most hard working is (Andy) Lau Tak Wa. However when I ran into Angelababy I realized that she was even more hard working than he was. I believed that after watching SEE YOU TOMORROW, everyone would feel that Angelababy was no longer an idol but an actress." Chan Yik Shun worked with Wong Kar wai for the first time and played a disillusioned singer. Wong Kar Wai praised Eason for being very focused in his acting, which surpassed his expectation. In addition, Ma Su, Hung Doi Lam, Cui Zhijia shared memories from the shoot. Ma Su in the trailer gave Leung Chiu Wai a beating. She said, "At the time I really was super nervous because Leung Chiu Wai was a figure in my film academy textbook." Claiming to be "a man who has kissed Leung Chiu Wai", Cui Zhijia even recalled, "At the time I was afraid that my performance career would be over". The most memorable for Hung Doi Lam was being slapped 41 times in a scene. Even Wong Kar Wai praised, "She would open the eyes of many". * (2016/10/23) 3 time Hong Kong Film Award Best Editing winner Cheung Ka Fai was attacked. Early this year he was the producer and editor for a new film. He even invited Hong Kong director Chun Siu Chun to direct. In the end before he took any salary he gave HK$ 500,000 to th director. He only asked for his salary once but he was attacked. Cheung Ka Fai three days ago was attacked in Beijing. A film company boss and a driver attacked him. He then posted his injury photos online. "I am sorry to worry all my friends. My current condition is fine, I just feel very bad. On the early morning of the 20th around 4:25Am, X company chief XX called and yelled at me. At first I did not respond. Later I realized that some said something that caused this matter. Originally I wanted to arrange for a meeting to explain, but as soon as he saw me he threw a punch. He kept going until I beg him not to. He reluctantly stopped then immediately continued his violent behavior......" How was his condition? "It's just superficial wounds, but the spiritual damage was even greater. I was both mad and afraid. Actually the film from the production start to post production I haven't taken a cent. Then he heard a rumor about me telling people that he had no money. So after using foul language over the phone to yell at me he beat me up downstairs at my home. His driver held me down. I didn't retaliate at all. I lost count on how many punches the boss threw. My face was all bloodied. I had to beg him to stop before he did. I will report to the Beijing police and hire lawyers to sue the assailants, so Hong Kong creators like us won't be abused like this." * (2016/10/23) Andy Hui Chi On, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Janice Man Wing Shan and Jacky Cai Jie two nights ago attended the NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI) premiere. The event was scheduled for a noon start but due to the Number 8 Storm Signal it was postponed until the evening. On Jai said that originally since the signal cancelled the premiere two days ago, he drove to the supermarket to shop. "I was very happy to shop at the supermarket. I brought a steak home to cook. I didn't expect that I would have to attend the premiere at night and I wouldn't get to eat it yet." He said that earlier with Ka Tung, JM and the director promoted the film in four Mainland cities. He mostly ate popcorn and had cola. He thought that he could eat a little better. Ka Tung also complained that the Mainland promotion was very tough. He did not have time to eat. He only "sustained his life" with popcorn, hotdog and coffee. How was the health of On Jai's wife Sammi Cheng Sau Man? On Jai said, "She is much better, but she still needs to rest a little more. (will you make her soup?) I don't know how, learning it now is too late. I told her to be quieter when she watched television. I knew that she was anxious to recover, so she did not need to say too much." JM has been made fun of for mixing her Chinese with English in her conversation. "I will pay more attention. I am an ordinary person, I have bad habits too. I will change." She revealed that many friends would send her reports and she laughed them off like a joke. * (2016/10/23) Karena Lam Ka Yun yesterday attended a Green Mondate event. Ka Yun revealed that her husband has been a vegetarian for four years. She would often cook for him. Ka Yun's HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) co-star Jacky Cheung Hok Yau was nominated for a Golden Horse Award for Best Actor. Ka Yun picked him as the favorite. "Winning or not really depends on luck and fate. I want him to win. Although the other nominees are also very talented, no matter what Hok Yau will always be a good co-star, a good actor and a god." Ka Yun was not disappointed that she was not nominated. She was stricter with her own performance and thought that she still had a lot of room for improvement. * (2016/10/23) Sean Lau Ching Wan and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung in the film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR) had a lot of power struggle scenes. In one scene Ching Wan needed to stab Ting Fung from behind. The scene was extremely dangerous, but in order to perform the most realistic feeling both Best Actors did not rehearse. They took their marks as soon as "action" was yelled. They got it in one take and the director was very pleased. Ching wan said, "During the shoot of course I was nervous, since I was stabbing at Ting Fung's face. If I disfigured him I wouldn't know how to explain it to his fans." Ting Fung said, "At the time I was ready, but the sudden attack made me very nervous. Luckily Ching Wan was in full control. Everyone was very pleased with the result." * (2016/10/22) Director Herman Yau Lai To, actors Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Andy Hui Chi On and Janice Man Wing Shan has been promoting their film NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI) in the Mainland. Two days ago they arrived in the final stop of Guangzhou. On Jai returned to film after five years because he trusted the director would cast him for a role that was suitable for him. Ka Tung said that he wanted to challenge the bisexual character and took the role. JM was asked if she gave a daring performance in order to win Best Actress? JM said, "If I took a role to win an award it would be a lot of pressure. I would only do my best to play the role well." * (2016/10/22) Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Mavis Fan Hiu Huen, Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik and director Wu Pinru two nights ago attended their film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR) charity premiere. Working with Ting Fung again, Ching Wan said that they already had a bond when they first worked together. Instead he had no bond with his frequent co-star Louis Koo Tin Lok. Ching Wan said, "So we keep going, until we do." Ting Fung said that he would not be the guest at girlfriend Faye Wong's upcoming concert. On the stage, Siu Huen revealed that when she shared the make up room with Ching Wan and Ting Fung they did not speak. Thus the set was very quiet. Ting Fung said, "You shouldn't be surprised, we made two movies like this." Ching Wan also said that after this film he did not feel Siu Huen was the same person in real life as in the film. He could not recognize her at all. Ting Fung explained that Siu Huen normally was little rock demon, in the film she played a doctor. After the event, Ching Wan said that when he worked with Ting Fung the first time they already had a bond. "I feel that you don't have to work together often to have it. As long as two people click it is already there. (After over ten years with Goo Jai you still don't have a bond?) No, so we have to keep going until we do." Ting Fung after hearing about Ching Wan's countless collaborations with Goo Jai said, "I am jealous, I really like to watch Ching Wan's movies. Our collaboration has been great. We are on the same wavelength. In addition other actors on the team are in sync with us, which is very rare." He also said that he and Ching Wan did not like to speak on the set, which was a quiet as a library. Will Ting Fung invite his girlfriend Faye Wong to watch this film? He said no comment. Will he be Faye's concert guest? Ting Fung said, "No, I don't want everyone to misunderstand. (Will you go?) No comment." Ching Wan also avoided questions about whether Faye visited the set by looking up and down. Ching Wan said about not being able to recognize Siu Huen. "Two nights ago I still couldn't recognize her. She really can have a lot of changes." Ting Fung also said that he knew Siu Huen to be very rock, but this time her performance was very mild mannered. He felt that she had her own pace. Siu Huen felt that neither actor could recognize her, which made it fun. She also said that the character in the film was very big picture and flexible in life, much like her in real life. Did she feel both men were very cool? Siu Huen said, "What I felt wasn't cool, but a lot of fun. When they did not speak they were in their own world. As soon as they spoke they became a lot of fun. On the day of the production wrap I asked Ching Wan to make faces for a selfie, he was very nice. (How about working with Ting Fung?) By the end of the film I still wasn't too familiar with him, so I told him, 'I heard the song that you wrote recently for Chan Yik Shun. It's decent'. We started talking about music." The film was postponed form August to a release this month. Director Wu Pinru explained it was a scheduling issue. Now they had even more time to promote. He also revealed that the film had some minor adjustments but stressed that it did not involved anything political or sexual. * (2016/10/22) The Media Asia invested John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) new film MANHUNT (JUI BO) starred Zhang Hanyu, Masaharu Fukuyama, Ha Ji-Won and Stephy Qi Wei and Yasuaki Kurata, Jun Kunimura, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Nanami Sakuraba and TAO. Since June the production has been shooting in Japan. Currently it is in production in Okayama. Although yesterday an earthquake took place there, the studio had special anti earthquake design. The entire team was fine. Earlier Ng Yu Sum spoke to the Japanese media and was asked about his impression of Masaharu Fukuyama. Ng Yu Sum had nothing but praise. "I wholeheartedly appreciate his professionalism. He is very charming and at the same time very friendly. He is very friendly and knows how to interact with everyone on the team. He also really knows how to respect others. In addition he also has an international image. He is an outstanding actor, his performance is rather exciting." MANHUNT's production cost reached US$ 50 million. The director of course has pressure. Ultimately China and Japan have cultural differences; in addition since the team worked together in multiple languages, they naturally would need even more attention to handle the work. Ng Yu Sum felt fortunate that no matter how great the difficulty was, the morale of the team was not affected. "The entire team is very tough. This production is very complicated because the numerous stunts are very difficult. However I rather admire the Japanese team. They communicate very harmoniously with the Chinese team. They open my eyes." He also said that although it was his first film in Japan, he rather enjoyed it. "I have really liked Japanese films since I was little, I learned a lot of production technique from Japanese films. Now it is like a dream come true." Director Ng even said that he has worked in different countries. Whether in the U.S. or Europe, he has never worked with a team so successfully. In addition the Japanese government has been rather supportive of this production, which enabled them to successfully shoot on location. For that he was very grateful. * (2016/10/21) The director Wong Kar Wai produced new film FERRYMAN (BAN DOH YUN) has been in preparation for a long time and finally scheduled for a Christmas release this year. The film starred Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo). Angelababy, Eason Chan Yik Shun and Luhan. The film's official Weibo posted the trailer two nights ago. In it Wai Jai appeared in sunglasses and had a rose in his mouth as women surrounded him. Wai Jai seemed to rather enjoy his comedic performance. His wife Carina Lau Ka Ling even looked forward to the new film. "Mr. Leung, I want to be ferried." Huang Xiaoming also resent the trailer to support his wife Angelababy. * (2016/10/21) Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui after BREAK UP 1000 (FUN SAU 100 CHI) worked with Chrissie Chau Sau Na again in his new film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI). Sister Na shared a bath with the 61 year old Cheng Tan Shui. Ah Tan said that this film actually was a challenge to Dior Cheng Yi Kin. "Earlier when I made BREAK UP 100, Ekin and Sister Na shared a bath in one scene. At the time I said that if I would have the chance I would arrange a scene for myself to challenge Cheng Yi Kin!" On the day of the shoot, Ah Tan was very thankful for Sister Na's trust that made it extremely smooth. "Because she had to lie completely on top of me, she truly had to trust me. I was really grateful to her for making the shoot very smooth and without any awkwardness." Sister Na said that the scene was not awkward. "Because the tub was too small, I would always accidentally unplug the drain. After the bad take, I had to sit in the tub again and very carefully feel where the plug was. Because Brother Tan was behind me, the crew made fun of me and told me not to feel anything that I shouldn't." * (2016/10/21) Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Joseph Chang, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai and Joman Chiang yesterday attended Ringo Lam Lan Tung's new film SKY ON FIRE (CHUNG TIN FOR) screening. Earlier Ng Yin Cho revealed that during the shoot he broke his nose and was almost disfigured. Lam Lan Tung revealed that when WILD CITY (MAI SING) was in preparation Ng Yin Cho offered his service. Originally set to be the lead actor, he just lost his mother and thus missed the opportunity. This time with SKY he finally fulfilled his wish. Cheung Siu Fai and Joman Chiang said that they have always wanted to work with Lam Lan Tung, but during the shoot they truly ran into many thrills. Cheung Siu Fai even said that he originally had many fight scenes, but they could not avoid the director's editing. The most thrilling scene was when a vehicle flew right by his head. Ath the time he was sweating bullets. * (2016/10/21) Raymond Wong Pak Ming's Pegasus Motion Pictures will invest HK$ 150 million in the Fruit Chan Gor directed new film DRAGON TATTOO (GAU LUNG BUK BAI). The film is planned for a production start at the end of the month. The film will have two selling points. Lead actress Annie Liu (Lau Sum yau) will abandon her mild mannered nice girl image of many years to play a tattooed Chinese medicine practitioner in the film. Sum Yau has already been fit for costume but still did not know where the tattoo will be. In the new film the Max Zhang Jin played Hong Kong cop and Louis Koo Tin Lok played Macau Judiciary Police will work together to capture a criminal. Zhang Jin will have his share of action scenes. Actually his martial art action potential has already caught Wong Pak Ming's eyes long ago. He invited the internationally renowned MMA champion the Spider Anderson Silva to battle Zhang Jin for almost eight figures. The film reportedly will shoot in Hong Kong and Macau for two months. The film will also add a lot of special effects. The actors before the shoot had molds made of themselves for post production effects. Zhang Jin will have a special effect dragon tattoo that will come to life and cost HK$ 10 million in production cost. * (2016/10/21) Director Midi Z, Kai Ko Chen-Tung, Wu Kexi last night attended their new film premiere in Kwun Tong. Due to traffic they were almost an hour late. This new film received six Golden Horse Award nominations. Best Actor nominee Ko Chen-Tung was happy and emotional, but at the same time very much looked forward to it. The film involved drugs and drug use, did Ko Chen-Tung hesitate during the shoot? He said that he would not. Every part of the script was very reasonable, so it was not deliberately done. Ko Chen-Tung also said that he was not afraid of his past being brought up again. This time was Ko Chen-Tung's first visit to Hong Kong since his drug incident. Did he feel any different? He said that he was OK, he was very happy to hear Cantonese and said that he changed as well. He was much humbler. He even joked that he would force Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming) to book a cinema to watch the movie. * (2016/10/20) Artists Janice Man Wing Shan, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Andy Hui Chi On, and director Herman Yau Lai To yesterday attended the Beijing premiere of their new film NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI). Ka Tung said that in the film he had to hit JM, luckily she told him not to hold back before hand. Ka Tung also revealed that JM castrated him. "Actually in the film she would 'chop off' my little Ka Tung, but the Mainland viewers won't be able to see this scene. This story teaches us not to betray women, because they would use unexpected ways for revenge!" * (2016/10/20) The Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Tong Liya, Mavis Fan Hiu Huen starred, new director Wu Pinru directed HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING TIN POR) promoted in Guangzhou. Ting Fung, Ching Wan, Vengo Gao Weiguang, Christie Chen Sixuan attended. The Ram City audience felt that the film's stunt scenes all had the usual Hong Kong film flavor. Ting Fung and Ching Wan worked together for the fourth time since THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN). Ching Wan did not hide his admiration of Ting Fung. "He has become more mature, even better than before. He is more stable, of course he is even more handsome." Aside from Ting Fung, who would Ching Wan might or hope to work with again in the short run? Ching Wan said Louis Koo Tin Lok. Ching Wan in the film played a psychology professor, for which he did a lot of homework. "I know about criminal psychology, but I definitely can't finish the university in several months. It's a huge field, making it very hard to understand everything. So this time I mainly chatted with the director about how to handle this character." In the film Lau Ching Wan's bearded look was memorable. He admitted that he designed this look. "I deliberately created this look. It's not a problem of handsome or not. Mainly it depended on whether it was needed. I grew this to give the audience the impression of a professor. Actually I rather like this look too." Ching Wan in recent years made mostly action films. When asked when he would return to drama and romance, Ching Wan laughed. "Action films depend on who is the director; romantic drama depends on who is the lead actress." Known as the "Wife Loving Maniac", he joked around when she was not around. When asked when they would work together again, he asked, "Which wife?" Then he humorously added, "My wife is still 'working' with me, we haven't split up." Two nights ago Ting Fung and Sixuan met with the audience in Hangzhou. Someone asked how Ting Fung prepared for the film. He admitted that everything relied on feeling. Sixuan was asked what kind of character she would like to play if she got to work with the Best Actors again. She said that she wanted to play a good guy character. Ting Fung cut in, "You should choose to be the bad guy because it is more memorable for the audience. Viewers would feel why can you be so bad." * (2016/10/20) The funeral of Wu Fung's wife Lui Wing Ho took place yesterday at the Universal Funeral Parlor. The ceremony was Christian. The remain was transported to the Cape Collinson Crematorium. Wu Fung's oldest son Wu Wing Hong carried his mother's photo to the hearse. Wu Fung stepped out of the hall with god daughters Christine Fong Kwok Shan, Ban Ban, and oldest grandson Wu Ka Chun. Brother Sau's friends Kenneth Tsang Kong and his wife Chao Chao, Ng Kwan Lai, Tam Sin Hung and Ting Yu also bid Sau Soh farewell. After a heart breaking set off for his beloved wife of over half a century, Brother Sau spoke to the media. "I hope everyone would spread a message for me. First is for making all the reporter friends work so hard the past few days, I feel very uneasy. Secondly I want to thank TVB for helping me arrange everything. Thirdly I am very appreciative of all the condolences from friends." Was he able to sleep two nights ago? Brother Sau said, "On and off, it went on for a long time so I fell asleep, it's like that!" As for god son Leon Lai Ming, Brother Sau said that he was unable to come due to work. Later a rainstorm came at Sau Soh's funeral, but Brother Sau was still concerned with reporters being drenched. After the funeral, Brother Sau, family and friends arrived in a North Point restaurant for a cleansing banquet. Fong Kwok Shan who accompanied her god father throughout the funeral revealed that Godfather was very strong and thanked the people of Hong Kong and friends for their care and love. Speaking of her godmother, Fong Kwok Shan said, "Godmother was a classic kind mother, I have too many good memories. She loved her family, constantly asked about everyone. The entire family watched Godmother passed, which was a blessing for everyone. I was very saddened, I missed her very much. Being able to be her god daughter was a rare connection and opportunity. We have been together for over 20 years. She really loved me, for which I am very grateful." Around 2PM, Brother Sau left with Fong Kwok Shan. Already in better spirit he was asked if he would return to rest in Vancouver. He smiled and said, "No, I will rest for a day or two, then back to the grind." Brother Sau's god son Dominic Chow Kai Sun yesterday sent his god mother on her final journey. How long ago was the last time he saw his godparents? Chow Kai Sun said, "We saw each other all the time, the final time was several months ago when I saw Godmother. At the time she was very strong, always with a smile. When I saw her picture I couldn't sleep all night, I kept thinking about what she said to me. Most of the time she was the one who got me to talk. Each time she chatted with us, she had a lot of care in her eyes." She also revealed that his wife cried all night, so she could not come in the morning. TA KUNG PAO, OCTOBER 20 2016, ASIAN FILMS 2016 HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL "Film Festival" is a trendy activity in Hong Kong nowadays. Aside from the traditional International Film Festival, a variety of official or civic institution film festivals, even commercial cinema circuits have started to promote "film festival" gimmicks that originally film enthusiasts started. Among the cinema driven film festivals, the originator probably was the Broadway Cinematheque started Hong Kong Asian Film Festival. From its beginning as a collaboration with the independent film organization Ying E Chi to later independent operation, the film festival has become more and more complete. - HUNG KWONG The currently running Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2016 is already in its 13th year. This year aside from the new talent film that has garnered attention, MAD WORLD (YUT LIM MO MING) and veteran director's topical film I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY, as well as the focus director Miwa Nishimura's retrospective, the most interesting parts of the entire screening event probably are the two special segments, "Nikkatsu Roman Porno" 45th anniversary and the road of Tibetan film. The so-called Nikkatsu Roman Porno referred to the 70s to the 80s Nikkatsu film company produced softcore porno films. One of the Nikkatsu founders was Mr. Sun Yat-Sen's friend Shokichi Umeya. Japan's earliest film company in the early 70s was facing its end. In order to survive, the entire company chose to produce low budget adult films. Because the creators had freedom to create within cost and certain special requirements (sex scenes), these films indeed had many strange brews. One of this selections, THE WORLD OF GEISHA was based on a Kafu Nagai novel. At the time it came in sixth on the Kinema Junpo top ten that year. At the same time many new directors tried their hands on this new genre, like ANGEL GUTS director Shinji Somai. Thus, although Nikkatsu was not the only Japanese conpany to make porno films, they became synonymous with this genre. This year to commemorate this genre's 45th anniversary, Nikkatsu asked five top directors to make five new films according to the rules of the past. Three were chosen for this film festival: ANTIPORNO, WET WOMAN IN THE WIND and AROUSED BY GYMNOPEDIES. Only the generation of directors who grew up making independent films like Isao Yukisada and Sion Sono and the Nikkatsui directors who grew up in the studio had curious differences in the work that they have created. Zhang Yan's New Film Spans Thousands Of Miles to The Northwest The "road of Tibetan Film"'s most heavyweight figure is somewhat unexpected. Zhang Yang who has been making small city romance and modern love stories has set his sight to the Northwest in recent years. He Shanghai International Film Festival Best Cinematography award winning new film SOUL ON A STRING was based on the Tibetan writer Tashi Dawa's novel of the same name and shot on the Western high plains that span over 2,000 kilometers. In the story killing comes easy for hunter Beta. Once he received the Heavenly Pearl by accident after killing a deer and was instantly struck to death by lightning. He returned to life after a lama's prayer. Then he carried the duty of taking the Heavenly pearl to Palm Print Mountain as penance for his sins. On the way he ran into an admirer shepherd girl and a mute child with a lute, with his enemies, burglars, writer and his dog many complex and time and space jumping plots were formed. The story ended up to be a fantasy parable......before this film, he has already made a documentary PATHS OF THE SOUL, the Chinese title referred to the "Mountain of the Soul" in Tibetan. Determined to be the center of the world in the past, it was also the holy mountain of the Tibetan Buddhists and Hindus. It attracted countless believes to pay pilgrimages there. Zhang Yang in 2015 with 11 amateur Tibetan actors on the 4,000 meter high plains to walk over 2,000 kilometers on a year long pilgrimage. From Markam to Lhasa to Ngari in Tibet, on the way they witnessed a member giving birth, mother and daughter almost dying in the rocks, the towing vehicle accidentally destroyed, when they ran out of money for the road they had to work for more, even the passing of a father. Without a script the film was filled with dramatic tension. Bhutan Director Talks About Ancient Traditions Qinghai director Sonthar Gyal's RIVER revolved around the protagonist and those closest to him's misunderstanding created from the gap between them. Thus he began a journey of spiritual rescue. The story started from the angle of a little girl Yangjin. Her father because of her grandpa passed away left home early on for Buddhism and declined any visit in a mountain cave. Thus he was seen as a bad person. Yangjin thus became the bullying target; still has not been wean off of breast feeding, her pregnant mother suddenly declined to feed her without any warning and thus made her feel pain for the first time. The film used amateur actors and spent three years to shoot Tibet in four seasons. It displayed how three generations of Tibetan shepherds were separated by a river, time and even emotional suppression. This film won 13 film festival awards. The 11th Asian Film Festival focus director Pema Tseden brought his new film THARLO, the film used black and white shots to calmly depict the protagonist, a shepherd who lives in the mountains to herd sheep for others and his encounters and confusion after entering the city. The story came from the director's novella; the shepherd would quote from QUOTATIONS FROM CHAIRMAN MAO and sing the national anthem. Although he did not understand the meaning of them, he wanted to "serve the people". He went to town because he reached the age of needing an identification card, but because he has never washed his hair he was driven to the hair salon across the street......also a stranger to the Hong Kong audience, Bhutan director Khyentse Norbu brought his new film HEMA HEMA: SING ME A SONG WHILE I WAIT about the secret ancient traditions there. Every 12 years a mysterious gathering would take place in the forest, everyone would put on traditional masks and hide from their true identities. Without any restriction of religion and social moral, they drank, danced and partied without a care. Two segments that travel North and South displayed Asian cities' most metropolis and most lustful side and Asia and even the world's most natural, "prehistoric", spiritual side on the same screen. They truly make an interesting film festival experience. 3. TA KUNG PAO, OCTOBER 20 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH PRESS CONFERENCE WITHOUT STARS Outsiders have their own "opinions" when they look at the film industry or other businesses. Although everyone knows fully that they are not "in the know" at all, they still tirelessly express their "opinions". Unexpectedly, some film major graduates are very "academic" with their industry understanding. They do not know film, the industry specialty between art and commerce, proving that they have graduated but are not in the business yet. A newly formed film company wants to hold a press conference, but it does not invite any star to be on the stage. Experienced colleagues know something is wrong and think of ways to make up for it. Yet a film major graduate in the company feels not having stars is even better. Stars are not helpful to the projects that will be announced at the press conference. His point is that internet and big enterprise press conferences do not hire stars to be on the stage (and still have great results). He feels that as long as the enterprise substance is on display it works. Stars instead would keep the media attention from the projects themselves. Thus he feels that reputable producers are enough to attend. They may be able to attract industry attention even more. He also did some research and felt that star reports have been lightly brushed over. The main focus is still with the projects and the business performance. Thus it should return to the press conference's "original nature" and not promoting with stars. This graduate indeed has done his research, but the examples he cites are different in natural from the company. For example he says that big enterprise does not put stars on the stage, which is correct! Big enterprise is already a big enough draw, but the company that wants to hold a press conference is a new company. Where would its draw be? In general press conferences would focus on interviewing stars. Other company information often is only briefly mentioned. Some news outlets do not even mention it at all. As for some reporters only lightly brushing over anything about the stars, the business performance and the projects are the real main course. This is a rather special arrangement, extremely large amount of examples to the contrary can prove that. In addition, the biggest purpose of a press conference to spread the company news widely. If the invitation does not have stars as guests, two phenomena would appear -- either the media would not pay much attention to it or would not come at all. Maybe some would ask why when Ma Yun holds a press conference, he receives a lot of coverage? Is Ma Yun not a business star? Ma Yun recently bought shares in Steven Spielberg's company and said that "film is already dead......today I am bringing film back to life......" If Ma Yun did not say that, would the media care? This film major graduate's so-called reputable producers actually are "stars". Stars of any field can attract eyeballs, without any star you would have to think of ideas to attract eyeballs. Otherwise you might as well not hold the press conference. Thus, university education needs to be practical in business and also needs ample experience. Conceivably it is the same in other businesses. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Siu Lum Jook Kau Lit : Laughter Forest Soccer AKA : Sing Lei 11 Yun Lit : Victory 11 Men d. Opening September 29 2016 Trailer : https://youtu.be/D0Ia_FNaWCc [ HONG KONG MOVIE 6 ] The term “Golden Triangle” has become a synonymous for drugs. Golden Triangle is one of the three main opium supplies in the world - located where the unrestricted border regions between Burma, Laos and Thailand converge along the Mekong River. Under the Chinese government’s suppression, Golden Triangle’s heroin supply has greatly declined. The uprise of ‘ice’ however brings back the ascendancy of Golden Triangle and it quickly becomes a battlefield at the Mekong River. On 5th October 2011, thirteen dead bodies of Chinese shipmen are found, blindfolded with hands tied, on the Mekong River. The Thai military also discovers 900 thousand pieces of ice drug on two Chinese merchant vessels. The Chinese government assigns Officer Ko and his team to investigate the case in Thailand. Fong, a farm owner and an intelligence agent, knows that the ice drug found on the vessels belongs to a drug lord’s gang member and is imputed to the Chinese shipmen. He later discovers the mastermind behind the massacre – Law, a notorious drug lord who has a strong military force and operates in and out of the Golden Triangle. In order to arrest Law, Thailand, Laos, Burma and China work together with an unspoken rule among themselves: the country that captures Law will be his jurisdiction. Fong and Ko’s teams use all means to track down Law. Ko and his team infiltrate into Law’s troop in the hope of taking down his stronghold. Fong lays a trap as an undercover, not realizing Law has found out his true identity and in the ensuing firefight, Law’s military force has slaughtered most of Ko’s men. In the aftermath of Fong’s wrongful intelligence, Ko discovers Fong’s untold secret and his true intention in the field. Once and for all, could Ko unveil Golden Triangle’s iron curtain and seek justice for the shipmen?
