Yesterday Lin Gengxin posted a photo with Sing Yeh, Huang Bo, and director Tsui Hark. Sing Yeh, Huang Bo and Lin Gengxin have all played Sun Wukong. Thus Lin Gengxin wrote, "The first day of JOURNEY TO THE WEST voice work, all the Wukong had an unscheduled meeting." * (2016/10/19) Mainland star Tiffany Tang Yan yesterday attended the press conference for the Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day next month as its image ambassador. Also in attendance were Yumiko Cheng Hei Yi, Selena Li, Jacquelin Chong, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi) in image consultant Mayao Ma's design. Tang Yan said that she worked with Tony Leung Chiu Wai for the first time on their new film PARIS RAIDERS (AU JAU GUNG LEUK). Tang Yan was shy with Wai Jai that she did not dare to look at his eyes. She also praised him as a the idol of everyone and a real "god". At night she would fly to Italy to continue work on the film. Tang Yan in the film played a couple with Wai Jai. Would they have any intimate scene? She bashfully said, "A little. (Did you fall under Wai Jai's spell?) Yes, any girl would like him. The first time I saw him in persona I was so shy that I didn't dare to look directly into his eyes. He wasn't cold, very friendly. (Is he your idol?) He is everyone's idol, a real god. I am very lucky to be working with him." Speaking of how Wai Jai's double closely resembled him in the film, Tang Yan admitted, "The first time I saw him I really was surprised. Yet when they were together they were very different. Not everyone can have Leung Chiu Wai's charm." * (2016/10/19) Wu Fung's wife Lui Wing Ho passed away earlier. Yesterday services began at the Universal Funeral Parlor with the funeral taking place the next day. The ceremony will be Christian. The hall was decorated with black and white. In the center were floral arrangements from Brother Sau and family members. Floral arrangements from Brother Sau's godchildren like Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and May Lo Mei Mei, Leon Lai Ming, Sandy Lam Yik Lin, Prudence Liew Mei Kwan, Ban Ban, Fong Kwok San were placed on the sides of the altar. Brother Sau first said, "Thank you very much everyone, I am sorry that you have to work so hard because of my wife. My wife truly was fortunate. Our entire family, children, children in law, grandchildren and great grandchildren all treated her very well. Before she went she saw everyone in the entire family. I knew that she was at peace. She should be very happy that everyone was there when she passed, so with her last breath she was still smiling." Brother Sau broke down and could not hold back her emotions any longer. Brother Sau also said that he said to her before her passing. "Everyone is very good, you can go in peace. If not you would be in a lot of pain." After that Fong Kwok Shan helped him back into the hall. Brother Sau's oldest son Wu Wing Hong and oldest grandson Wu Ka Chun also spoke to the media with Tsang Sing Ming. Wu Wing Hong thanked the media for covering the event. Wing Hong revealed that his mother was 82. She passed very peacefully. Papa and the children were by her side. Mama was getting old and had health problems in the past few years. She passed away due to complication from heart problems. God son Cheung Hok Yau last night arrived with Cheung Ka Fai. They stayed for half a hour and left. Hok Yau was too saddened to speak to the media. Ka Fai spoke as he walked. He said that Brother Sau appeared to be calm. Ka Fai said that he was not Brother Sau's god son but comforted Brother Sau anyway. He said, "I met Mrs. Wu when I went to dinner at Brother Sau's home. At the time she was very healthy." God daughter Ban Ban arrived around 5PM. She said that she just got off the plane when she received the news. She got a lot of messages from the media, at the time she was stunned and immediately called God Father. He too was very upset. She said teary eyed, "It was very shocking. I comforted God Father. Maybe he was mentally prepared, but he still missed her!" Frequent co-stars of Brother Sau, Law Lan and Sit Ka Yin arrived together. Sister Law Lan did not respond due to a sore throat. Sister Ka Yin spoke on her behalf. "I heard from Sister Law Lan that Brother Sau and his wife have been married for decades and always been very loving. Sister Law Lan watched them date. They were each other's first love, so they have always supported and loved each other. They also loved their children. Brother Sau of course would be very sad and heart broken. I hope he would easily get past this period." Tse Yin said that he comforted Brother Sau and revealed that he was OK. Ah Jeh said that she worked with Brother Sau all the time before, so she would come in contact with Sau Soh. "She was great. When I heard the news I was shocked and I was worried about Brother Sau. I just saw him sitting to the side in silence, I very rarely saw him like that." * (2016/10/18) Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik and "Giant Chested Priscilla Wong" Larine Tang Yueping yesterday worked on their new film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI). The director and star Cheng Tan Shui even invited Anthony Chan Yau to guest star as his boss. Calling in all favors for the film, Cheng Tan Shui revealed that he has invited his favorite Chrissie Chau Sau Na to share a bathtub in one scene. "Luckily she trusts me!" Chan Yau joked, "Then I want to be at the bottom of the tub!" He also said that he treated Cheng Tan Shui's character like a slave. In reality they had a great relationship, thus when he asked for help he immediately agreed. Playing Cheng Tan Shui's daughter, Tang Yueping was making her film debut. Was she already used to it? She said, "I am, instead I am afraid that life without film production would be very stale." She also said that Cheng Tan Shui taught acting very well. In the film she had an argument scene with him. Would she have any sexy performance? She joked that she had a "naked performance". "It's the naked human nature!" * (2016/10/17) With her resemblance to Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Hedwig Tam Sin Yin recently played a lesbian in the film YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU HEI) and had an intimate scene with "giant chested Priscilla Wong" Larine Tang Yuet Ping. She said, "The script required a kiss, but we just did a peck on the cheek. Actually I wouldn't mind a real kiss." Tam Sin Yin cut her hair short for the character. "Even Ma and my brother thought we had another son and brother." She stated that she was often mistook for a lesbian. "In secondary school a younger classmate asked me if I like girls, but at the time I had a boyfriend. Maybe my body is eradiating male characteristics." She revealed that she had a model boyfriend now. Speaking of the break up between Cecilia So Lai Shan and Neo Yau Hawk Sau from the company pressure, Tam Yin Sin said, "I have no pressure, I won't comment on what happened to others. Only they know what happened." * (2016/10/17) With the King of Thailand's passing last week, Thailand announced a year of mourning as entertainment activities will suspend for 30 days. Sun Entertainment's 150 million RMB investment, the Paco Wong produced, Wilson Yip Wai Shun directed, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Max Zhang Jin and Tony Jaa starred SPL prequel TAM LONG (GREEDY WOLF) was scheduled for a Bangkok production start in the middle of the month. With the sudden passing of the King, the team also had to make changes. The production start date might be postponed to the end of the month or early next month. TAM's Bangkok location shoot would mainly be in studio after the production start and would try to shoot mostly during theday. After work the team would ask the team not to linger at night spots and to rest at the hotel instead. Paco said, "TAM LONG's pre production work is heating up in Bangkok. I got an understanding with the team, nothing has been affected in Bangkok right now. Everyone is working as usual. Only some entertainment venues had to close. The film is planned for a production start at the end of the month." This film actually has gone through obstacle after obstacle. The film was originally set for a mid August production start in Korea with Korean actors. The studio set was done already, but later due to the sudden Mainland restriction on Korea the investors in order to avoid effects on its Mainland release not only cancel the Seoul shoot but also gave up the Korean cast. Because the shoot was changed to Thailand the set had to be built anew. The pre production cost went up by another 10 million RMB. Paco said, "Due to the Mainland restriction on Korea, I can only chop off my arm and cancel the Korean shoot. If we kept shooting in Korea with Korean actors, our potential losses might be even greater." * (2016/10/17) The Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Sean Lau Ching Wan starred action crime suspense film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR) yesterday held its Beijing premiere press conference. Two Best Actors worked together again after THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN). Ching Wan admitted, "Ting Fung is no different from 4 years ago, he is still unwilling to speak. He still doesn't really pay attention to others." Ting Fung also joked that their film should have been called THE CO-STAR VANISHES, as this person seemed not to be on the set. Ching Wan and Ting Fung appeared on the stage together and was asked about working together again. Ching Wan said, "Aside from working on the film we don't really talk." Ting Fung also said that Ching Wan had few words on the set. "When we made THE BULLET VANISHES we seemed to be making THE CO-STAR VANISHES, but as soon as the director started work, Ching Wan's character would appear on camera and he got into character in a flash." Ching Wan felt that Ting Fung was much more mature, his acting even more excellent. He would study his character in depth and their scenes together went very smoothly. They both posed as nice home husbands. Ching Wan joked about being caught shopping at the market earlier, "Ting Fung and I are perfectly matched. I shop at the market, he cooks -- absolutely flawless!" Sheren Tang Shui man played Ching Wan's wife. She revealed that she had a "bed scene" but she complained, "Ching Wan doesn't say much on the set, we finished the scene without too much exchange!" They played a game of "who is the real bad guy". Ting Fung played a honest cop and said that he did not dare to do anything bad. Ching Wan said, "If I was the bad guy, then no one would live. The bad guy of course isn't me." This year would be Ting Fung's 20th in the business. Fans strongly demanded that he performed a concert. * (2016/10/16) The Eddie Peng Yu-Yan starred film OPERATION MEKONG made 900 million RMB at the Mainland box office as of yesterday, in Hong Kong it already passed HK$ 4.52 million. The film would finally break 1.2 billion RMB in a conservative estimate. The ending touched a raw nerve online. Director Dante Lam Chiu Yin in order to ease the fans' emotions earlier personally edited a two minute long "secret ending", the footage has not be released in its entirety. The scarred Eddie remained on duty overseas in disguise, through a mobile phone he stayed in contact with Zhang Hanyu. Zhang Hanyu also was reunited with his daughter. This new arrangement would absolutely bring tears. Speaking of Eddie "ruining his image" with his disguise and being completely unrecognizable, Director Lam said, "I thought of 6 or 7 looks for him, the disguise took the most time. The make up took 4 hours to finish. (Are you laying the ground work for the sequel?) Everyone's schedule is very hard to coordinate, but at the night of the upcoming celebration the three of us can sit down together and study how to work together again." Eddie and Zhang Hanyu earlier were interviewed together. When preparing for OPERATION in Thailand, the country was in a political turmoil. "We have to import prop guns for special training, which was too sensitive. My character was someone who escapes death, the more dangerous the environment was the easier it was to get into character. The performance was quite fun for me." * (2016/10/16) Grace Lam Nga Sze, Derek Wong Kin Tung, Samuel Kwok Fung and Taddy Ng Ho Leung attended their new film SHE WILL BE LOVED (FA YU TA)'s production start ceremony. The new film will shoot on location in Southeast Asia for 20 days. Grace said that she has not left her son for so many days and worried that he would not be used to it. With the sun and the sand, would she bring more swimsuits for the shoot? She admitted, "I will bring 10, when I have time I will go swimming." Wong Kin Tung earlier in the TVB series INSPECTOR GOURMENT kissed Mat Yeung Ming and online gay rumors surfaced about him. He said, "I am not, but it's good for people to think that. It proves that I can only be funny and weird. The most important is for people to notice." Grace said that her son was a Wong Kin Tung fan and kept repeatedly watching his comedy short films. * (2016/10/16) Johnson Lee's directing debut YUT GA DAI SAI (RUN OF THE HOUSE) started production yesterday. Actor Tommy Tam (Ti Lung), Yuen Qiu, Chin Siu Ho, Louisa So Yuk Wa, Andrew Lam Man Chung, Fion Qian (Chin Ying) and two child stars Marcus Lo (Law Tsz Lung) and Ho Wing Yiu attended the worship ceremony. Ti Lung this time grew facial hair to play Johnson Lee's father. Before working together Brother Lung's impression of Johnson was someone who was impulsive and liked to be funny. However after working together he felt that he was rather motivated, serious and careful, passionate and ambitious about film. Thus he would not need advice from him, as he would "live and learn". Would he need to be funny in this comedy? Brother Lung lamented about the current Hong Kong society. "It would be necessary. Lately I have read a lot of reports and felt that the society has too many frustrations and grievances, which Hong Kong people do not need or want. Many are righteous enough. I am used to make wu xia films and am rather receptive to Master Kwan and Uncle Shek Kin's loyalty and ethics. Yet young people now only dare to speak. I would advise, 'The ability to speak doesn't make a real gentleman, kindness makes a big man'. They should live and prosper with the society and enjoy life. The society gives you a duty, you have to have a sense of responsibility. You shouldn't destroy the society and act up, which are unnecessary. Since young people have taken a step forward, they should walk even more steadily and leave the troubles before. I dare to say this here." Johnson Lee praised Ti Lung's sense of humor and was even mischievous. Earlier he appeared on his program as a guest he even spoke French. Johnson said, "Brother Lung's golden quotes are even more amazing that Old Lai (Leon Lai Ming)'s. So the film would use them." So Yuk Wa would play a couple with Johnson. Johnson said that when he made his first series 16 years ago, Ah So played his wife. Thus he could never forget it. Ah So joked, "So you are using your directing debut for personal gains, but I also thank you for bringing me into the film world!" Would he arrange for intimate scenes with Ah So? Johnson admitted that he arranged for hugs and kisses, but they would express the love of the family of four. * (2016/10/16) Jade Leung Jung, Jeana Ho Pui Yu and director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai yesterday attended the film SPECIAL FEMALE FORCE (LAT GAING BA WONG FA)'s audience appreciation event. With her share of action scenes in the new film, Leung Jung humbly said that she did not have it as bad as the other actresses. She said, "During the shoot I recalled when I first made action films. Now I have practicing yoga and dance, I am still interested in action films. Maybe I am a masochist." Speaking of Leung Jung's TVB series BROTHER'S KEEPER II being criticized as "turning BROTHER'S KEEPER into incest" due to a scene in which Hugo Ng raped his daughter Grace Chan Hoi Lam, Leung Jung said that they only followed the plot and the actors had nothing to do with it. However he admitted that such a husband in real life would be very terrifying. Jeana has become less sexy after she started dating director Philip Yung Tsz Kwong. She admitted that her costume in the film was rather conservative, in the shower scene she only bared her shoulders. She denied that her boyfriend minded her being sexy. "No, she doesn't mind if I wear something sexy because he has confidence in me. " Jeana said that she had 100% trust in her boyfriend because he had no interest in going out at night at all. "In the past four years I have had no interest in going out either, instead I like to cook at home." * (2016/10/15) Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Janice Man Wing Shan and Andy Hui Chi On starred in the film NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI) will soon open. Lam Ka Tung in the film showed his monstrous side, but this time Ka Tung's performance was rather difficult. The character was a subservient husband, domestic abuser, prostitute client, bisexual schizophrenic. In one scene when he hit his wife, Man Wing Shan after the shoot was unable to leave her character right away as she bawled on the ground for ten minutes. She kept trying to catch her breath, Ka Tung and all the workers were surprised. Ka Tung thought that he was too heavy handed and said, "I am really afraid of hitting women!" Man Wing Shan said, "I really don't care, as long as everyone feels the result is realistic. This is the result that director and we want, so I really like this scene. It really is very explosive and full of conflict!" Ka Tung and Hui Chi On had nothing but praise for Man Wing Shan's performance. Ka Tung said that Man Wing Shan was a demanding co-star. "A demanding co-star is a good thing, without that everyone would have a very hard time." * (2016/10/15) Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Jeana Ho Pui Yu and Mandy Ho Pui Man in the new film SPECIAL FEMALE FORCE (LAT GAING BA WONG FA) saluted the 90's INSPECTOR WEARS SKIRTS (BA WONG FA) film series. Producer Charlie Wong Wing Fung on the Cable Entertainment program Film Montage said that Yun Yi's character used Sandra Ng Kwan Yu as the blue print. He said, "The casting was the hardest. We chose Yun Yi to play Ng Kwan Yu's funny lady character, finally she showed all of the loyal side. Although she was afraid of heights she still climbed four to five stories, her professionalism was truly admirable!" Jeana yesterday with Ho Pui Man, director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai and producer Wong Wing Fung attended a forum in Tiu Keng Leng. Jeana said, "The forum's theme was 'the birth of a film". I deliberately dressed more academic. (Did you ask your boyfriend for tips?) When he heard that I was going to a forum, he said, 'You?' He says that serious sharing was OK, I wouldn't need to be nervous." * (2016/10/15) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Mainland actress Zhou Dongyu were linked in rumors before. They represented their opening films MAD WORLD (YUT LIM MO MING) and SOUL MING when they attended the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival opening ceremony two nights ago. At the event Yue Man Lok knelt to greet Peter Chan Ho Sun and Zhou Dongyu when he arrived. During the group photo this rumored couple stood together without any awkwardness. Lok Jai even put his arm around her shoulder. Zhou Dongyu kept making mischievous poses and praised Lok Jai and Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) as different types of handsome guys. Nominated for the Golden Horse Best Actress award with SOUL MATE, Zhou Dongyu when asked about how she felt said, "Very great!" Then she continued in a later interview. "I was asked just now I was too emotional, I misspoke. Being nominated is being recognized, it's a very good encouragement for me to work hard and increase my confidence in acting." Was appearing together with rumored boyfriend Yue Man Lok awkward? Zhou Dongyu said, "I am very happy, it wouldn't be awkward. We are good brothers, he is my older brother." She also stressed that she and Lok Jai were neither dating nor together. Would they meet for dinner on this trip? Zhou Dongyu said that today she would return to Shanghai to continue work on a film with Gum Sing Mo, so she probably would not make dinner. As for working with Gum Sing Mo, she said that for now she was not at liberty to discuss that. However she praised him as very handsome, very handsome, very handsome. How would he compare to Yue Man Lok? She said, "Don't (compare), different kind of handsome!" Zhou Dongyu and Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin)'s former girlfriend Tiffany Hsu were nominated for the Golden Horse Best Actress award, but Zhou was accused of coming between them and leading to their break up. Zhou Dongyu replied, "Siu Tin is my grandpa, Tiffany Hsu my grandma. These are my special nicknames for them." Yet she was rumored to be their third party? She answered, "It's just a rumor. The next day when I saw the report I had no idea what happened!" Would being nominated with Tiffany Hsu be awkward? Zhou Dongyu said that it would not because she earlier guest starred in her film A NAIL CLIPPERS ROMANCE. Zhou Dongyu revealed that she was not dating, but did she have a lot of suitors? She said, "I have some! Haha!" Yue Man Lok admitted that he and Zhou Dongyu were both busy so they have not seen each other in a long time. The last time was when they worked in Beijing. Was he afraid of more rumors? Lok Jai said, "I don't get to be afraid. I just went to greet Chan Ho Sun and people asked me why I knelt to Zhou Dongyu. Thus something awkward like this would always happen when we see each other!" Zhou Dongyu said not to compare Gum Sing Mo and Lok Jai. Lok Jai said, "She politely said that to keep from breaking my heart, how can I compare! However I am very happy for her to be able to work with Gum Sing Mo, which is a very huge improvement!" Even though he did not take a salary to make MAD WORLD, Lok Jai was not nominated for a Golden Horse award. Was he heartbroken? He said, "No, that could shatter the previous rumor (the accusation that he did not take Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin's new film due to low salary). It's not like I wouldn't work for a penny less!" Was he afraid that Ah Sa would be mad? He said that as an actor he could not possibly make all the movies, he would have to make choices. Lok Jai revealed that actually he was the second choice for MAD WORLD. At first when he received Tony Leung Ka Fai's call, he said that he had a good character but he did not have time on his schedule to play it. He wanted to recommend Lok Jai to give it a try. Thus Lok Jai would have to thank Ka Fai for any performance. Lok Jai said that he said he had no regret. He even paid to perform completely because director Amos Why's government scholarship from a competition. However the production budget was less than HK$ 3 million, no actor could possibly be hired. Thus when they saw an attractive script, no one would look at money. * (2016/10/15) Two nights ago the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival opening ceremony took place. The new director Amos Why (Wong Chun) directed, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) and Charmaine Fong Ho Man starred film MAD WORLD (YUT LIM MO MING) and the Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed, Peter Chan Ho Sun produced, Zhou Dongyu starred SOUL MATE both were selected as the opening films. The two films' teams gathered at the event. Tsang Chi Wai with MAD WORLD was nominated for a Golden Horse Best Supporting Actress award. Tsang Kwok Cheung with SOUL MATE would compete for Best Director. Two nights ago when the father and the son appeared together, Chi Wai politely let his son speak first. Speaking of SOUL's seven Golden Horse Award nominations, Kwok Cheung said that he wanted to win adapted screenplay, costume design and Best Actress the most. He instead did not dare to think about his Best Director race. As for both Zhou Dongyu and Sandra Ma Sichun were nominated for Best Actress, he admitted that Zhou Dongyu's chance was better because her character stood out more. Si Sichun's acting naturally would be overlooked. However without her reserved and full under control performance, she could not support Zhou Dongyu's standing out. Chi Wai once said that he would be happier for his son to win. Kwok Cheung joked, "I would be happier about my victory than his too!" Chi Wai joked, "If I win I have to let him win again!" Did Chi Wai feel Kwok Cheung has brought glory to the ancestors? He said, "I have to take him to visit the cemetery, as the new is better than the old. In the ancient times it would be like a successful homecoming, like being the top of the class!" Thus Chi Wai will walk the red carpet with Kwok Cheung and daughter Bowie Tsang. He joked, "When I walked the red carpet before, people would ask who was the tall one. This time they would ask who is the very short old man next to the Best Director!" Kwok Cheung also said that when he competed for the New Director award, he had a chance to attend as a family of three but missed the opportunity. Thus fulfilling it this time would be truly rare and happy. When will the father and the son work together on a film again? Chi Wai said that he was already very happy that their films were both selected for the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival opening films. Kwok Cheung also said that he had quite a connection with the film MAD WORLD, because when the film participated in the film development fund's First Feature Film Initiative, he was on the jury. Later they will be able to compete for the Golden Horse awards together. * (2016/10/15) Global Saga Media Entertainment Ltd. yesterday announced that it officially moved into its new Tsuen Wan TML Square's office. Boss Tony Wong Yuk Long said that he will invest over HK$ 10 million not only to continue to produce even more sincere films for the Hong Kong film industry but also strengthen its connection to the Hangzhou branch office to actively plan for Mainland film market development. Yesterday Wong Yuk Long, Rachel Lam Hei Tung and Frankie Lam Man Lung attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. Wong Yuk Long said, "The company performed well last year. THE MERGER (NGOR MOON TING JIN BA!) at the end of last year won multiple awards overseas. The new film GWING DOH LOK CHAM GEI early this year also attracted overseas investors to invite the production team to shoot in the U.S., which boosted my confidence in the current team. Thus this year we will expand to two to three times the current scale. In addition, next year the investment amount will exceed HK$ 10 million. Hopefully it will be able to bring more and even higher quality films to the industry and the audience." "Boss lady" Lam Hei Tung revealed that two to three films will be made next year, but because the company has already taken a Mainland palace costume series another film about social subjects will have to wait until early to mid next year. "Now We are in negotiation with a Best Actor, after looking at the script he expressed interest. Hopefully we will have good news for everyone soon." * (2016/10/13) Eliza Sam Lai Heung, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Jeana Ho Pui Yu, Anita Chui Bik Ka, Rose Chan Ka Wun and Philip Ng Won Lung two nights ago attended the film SPECIAL FEMALE FORCE (LAT GAING BA WONG FA) premiere in Mongkok. Chui Bik Ka wore a low cut dress and said that she only took such a risk because it was the premiere. Would Heung Heung be as sexy as Chui Bik Ka? She admitted, "I wouldn't say no, today I chose a different style." Heung Heung also revealed that she was all taped up to prevent wardrobe malfunction. Would she consult her boyfriend about wearing something sexy? She said, "No, of course not. I decide whatever I wear, but I have asked my boyfriend what would I look prettiest in. He said that he likes me the best in a turtleneck." Chui Bik Ka jokingly asked if the answer was not bikini. Heung Heung coyly said, "Are you for real? It's very hard to find a turtleneck swimsuit. Most guys would like their girlfriends to cover up a little." Would her boyfriend come to Hong Kong to support her movie? Heung Heung said that she would like her boyfriend to have time to come to Hong Kong, but was afraid that after watching the film he would be afraid of her. In the film she had a lot of fight scenes. After watching he probably would be more obedient or a little afraid of her. Chui Bik Ka's chest got stepped on in one scene, she said that it was not awkward. Instead she thought it was fun. Rose and junior colleague Brian Yun Chung Yeung spoke to the media together. She said that in one film she and Hazel Tong Chi Yui had to hold a gun, one aimed to the left and the other to the right; but she almost shot her. Although the gun was not loaded, it had a spark so it was still dangerous. Luckily no one got hurt in the end. Rose revealed that later she and her junior colleague will be guest presenters at the Changchun Film Festival, so she had to practice her Putonghua. She joked that her Putonghua was okay but she did not know about his. She also joked that she has not had a guy by her side in a longtime, this time she finally had a male companion. When asked about any chance to develop with her, she stated that she did not like young fresh meat. "Although he is a year older, I don't like young fresh meat." Yuen Chung Yeung said that he would learn from his senior colleague. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, OCTOBER 13 2016, ASIAN FILMS OPERATION MEKONG: CHANGING OF AN ERA Among the world famous lawless regions, the Golden Triangle between the borders of Myanmar, Laos and Thailand undoubtedly is one of the most renowned. For several decades, Hong Kong films that were involved with drugs more or less would mention this place. Only, in past Hong Kong films that were involved in the Golden Triangle, the characters either went there to negotiate business or go understand. Few attempted to arrest anyone there. From this point, Dante Lam Chiu Yin's new film OPERATION MEKONG was about Chinese special police's mission in the Golden Triangle -- displaying the changes of a certain era. - HUNG KWONG OPERATION MEKONG was based on a real case. In 2011, the Thai military intercepted two empty Chinese merchant ships in the water of the Golden Triangle and found 90,000 pills of ice. The next day, 13 Chinese sailors' bodies appeared in the water, they were all blindfolded, their hands tied and shot execution style. For this case, the Chinese public security department formed a joint task force with Thailand, Laos and Myanmar militaries to catch the mastermind behind it. He was a new drug lord in the Golden Triangle with a heavily armed force and his whereabouts was unknown. China sent a veteran anti drug chief with a team to investigate in Thailand. He worked with the Golden Triangle intelligence agent to find where the drug lord was hiding. They had to capture him before the other three nations' police, otherwise he would be prosecuted in the other nations and there would be no justice for the dead Chinese sailors...... Like an American Spy Film Lam Chiu Yin's screenplay basically was a counterfeit of American spy films, with car chases, even plane landing in the jungle to join the battle, drones, robots as well as undercover agents in disguise were all used. Basically, any action spots that Chinese filmmakers have tried appeared. In addition due to the changes of the investment increase and background, the film became even larger and more "realistic" in scale. Those drone control, electronic interference, even various high or low technology equipment in the jungle all seemed commonplace today. Of course, the police guns who could aim in turns that appeared in the film could be considered as a more innovative equipment. The writer and the director although did not deliberately stressed such high technology, the film itself more or less became a demonstration of new equipment. As soon as the story began, it was no different from Beijing's anti terrorist fight. Aside from equipment, the story was focused on Zhang Hanyu and Eddie Peng Yu-Yan played police officers. One was divorced from his wife because the mission came first, and maintained his relationship with his daughter over the phone. (The father and daughter relationship depiction was more or less the shadow of the director's personal experience); the other chose the mission in the old nest of the drug lord because his girlfriend succumbed to drugs. Neither actually had little character and detail support and became very efficient. Peng Yu-Yan's character history seemed to be created just for conflicts with the villain and even his job, and did not made the character richer. Of course, most Hollywood action films had this problem. From an angle of watching similar foreign films, the flaw was nothing major. The Golden Triangle region's sovereignty was chaotic, giving the story a lot of space for the Chinese special police force to take action there. Little was mentioned about interaction with local or even the three nations' police. The duo lured the drug lord's partners to a deal and led to chaos in a shopping center. They just left without any consequences. Why Not Be Commercial With The Story The big difference from reality was the Myanmar police originally made the capture then transferred the criminal to Chinese in an ordinary international justice collaboration. Under Hong Kong filmmakers' adaptation, it became the Chinese police taking action first and capturing the criminal to return to the Mainland for prosecution. From a commercial film angle, this naturally was reasonable. All the stories started from the target audience's angle, just like space monsters always attacking Japan and alien invader always targeting the U.S. Only, this method of completely removing the three nations' police (aside from the Beijing meeting and the drug lord's child soldier suicide attack) actually was a little like the Hollywood film U-571 that credited the World War II British military's capture of German decoding machine (planned by James Bond's original creator Ian Fleming) to Americans. However, as long as the target audience did not mind, such an arrangement seemed reasonable. The control often was proportional to the size of the market. 3. TA KUNG PAO, OCTOBER 13 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH OPERATION MEKONG WINS WORD OF MOUTH The National Day slot has always been a battleground for all. This year the Mainland film releases accumulated three days before the National Day 776 million RMB, less than last year's 861 million in the same period. Whether this year's box office would reach last year's 1.85 billion RMB, it would depend of OPERATION MEKONG. This year for National Day due to Feng Xiaogang's I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY schedule change, the four remaining favorites were the Zhang Yibai directed I BELONGED TO YOU, GUO JINGMING's L.O.R.D. LEGEND OF RAVAGING DYNASTY, Wong Jing's MISSION MILANO and Dante Lam Chiu Yin's OPERATION MEKONG. On the surface, the films had Heavenly Kings, Young Fresh Meat, Big Intellectual Property, Big Time Writer, and Big Director. Before their release some articles claimed that the fight would be between I BELONGED TO YOU and MISSION MILANO. Some articles also said not to underestimate the power of Guo Jingming, only OPERATION MEKONG was not selected as the box office champion. According to sales charts, I BELONGED TO YOU led the "recognition" and "ticket sales" index with the highest female viewer occupation rate. Before the release it became the favorite. It was released a day earlier than L.O.R.D. and indeed did not disappointed as it won the top spot. Several days it came in fourth. Several days after their releases, OPERATION won the 13% of the box office and rocketed to the top with over 50% box office ratio. There was only one reason, word of mouth. Before OPERATION was released, some critics pointed out that this film was not necessarily suitable for the entire family. It would have difficulty with propping up the National Day slot. The evidence supported that on the surface. This film was an action film with heavy fire power, to female viewers it would not be the first choice. Although Eddie Peng Yu-Yan could be considered Young Fresh Meat, his films were not considered hits (CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING) also did not perform as well as expected.) In addition, OPERATION was a propaganda film. In the hands of a Hong Kong director, would it be relatable domestically was another problem. Thus, this film was not seen as the favorite before. After its opening, OPERATION indeed was the third choice. On the first few days it had no sign of life at all. Later as the word of mouth for various films came, OPERATION became the first choice. This film's subject indeed made it hard to be the first choice. It had no gimmick or big IP, its cast could not be compared to the other films. Promotion was not easy. Secondly, propaganda films did not have to be dull. Previously there was THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN, now there is OPERATION MEKONG. They both were able to affect people. Thirdly, reward always comes to those who work quietly and do not fool the audience (some big films only have big name casts, the stories are rotten. They are fooling the audience). Lam Chiu Yin's recent movies have all been films of heart and effort like UNBEATABLE and TO THE FORE. With OPERATION MEKONG they have become choices of confidence. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] CHERRY RETURNS d. [ HONG KONG MOVIE 6 ] Louis Luo, Chairman of a technology group, is a wealthy entrepreneur in town. Yet underneath this camouflage, he is a martial arts master whose ancestors were goodwill thieves who rob from the rich for charitable intentions. With the beneficent genes inherited from his forefathers, he often fights against injustice and collaborates with the police to fight crimes. A university in Switzerland funded by Louis has successfully invented the “Seed of God”, a remarkable invention that enhances harvest on the most barren lands in just one minute. During a test demonstration, while Louis is amazed at how the “Seed of God” can put an end to famine, he can also foresee how it will drive agricultural societies into bankruptcy. Snow, leader of an international crime conglomerate "Crescent", raids the scene with her protégé, Phoenix. Equipped with high-tech sonic weapons, they seize the “Seed of God” and abduct its inventor. Interpol sends Sir Sampan Hung to work with Louis in a joint effort to retrieve the “Seed of God”. Somehow in the course of the chase, Louis and Bo have become grudge mates. Accompanied by Louis’ assistant, Amon and his sister, Ka-yan, they get into a fierce wit and fist game with “Crescent” and an even more powerful terrorist group “Kmax”. The battle field spans across Macau, Hong Kong and Milan. Finally, with the help of a mysterious undercover, they manage to recover the "Seed of God" from a laboratory in Milan through a series of deadly traps. Unfortunately, the mastermind of Kmax, Sir Condor captures Louis’ mother, and threatens Louis with his mother’s life in exchange for the "Seed of God". Louis and his companions travel as far as Eastern Europe, Kmax terrorists’ base, to rescue his mother who is held capture on a transport aircraft. So, what will be the fate of the "Seed of God”? Golden Triangle is one of the three main opium supplies in the world - located where the unrestricted border regions between Burma, Laos and Thailand converge along the Mekong River. Under the Chinese government’s suppression, Golden Triangle’s heroin supply has greatly declined. The uprise of ‘ice’ however brings back the ascendancy of Golden Triangle and it quickly becomes a battlefield at the Mekong River. On 5th October 2011, thirteen dead bodies of Chinese shipmen are found, blindfolded with hands tied, on the Mekong River. The Thai military also discovers 900 thousand pieces of ice drug on two Chinese merchant vessels. The Chinese government assigns Officer Ko and his team to investigate the case in Thailand. Fong, a farm owner and an intelligence agent, knows that the ice drug found on the vessels belongs to a drug lord’s gang member and is imputed to the Chinese shipmen. He later discovers the mastermind behind the massacre – Law, a notorious drug lord who has a strong military force and operates in and out of the Golden Triangle. In order to arrest Law, Thailand, Laos, Burma and China work together with an unspoken rule among themselves: the country that captures Law will be his jurisdiction. Fong and Ko’s teams use all means to track down Law. Ko and his team infiltrate into Law’s troop in the hope of taking down his stronghold. Fong lays a trap as an undercover, not realizing Law has found out his true identity and in the ensuing firefight, Law’s military force has slaughtered most of Ko’s men. In the aftermath of Fong’s wrongful intelligence, Ko discovers Fong’s untold secret and his true intention in the field. Once and for all, could Ko unveil Golden Triangle’s iron curtain and seek justice for the shipmen? ------ GLOBAL CHINESE MUSIC CHART For the week starting October 15 2016 15 MISMATCHED SOCKS Can : Yuen Yeung Muk Joey Yung Cho Yi https://youtu.be/Osqrr9nOOKk 14 FOUR SEASONS Can : Sei Gwai Eason Chan Yik Shun https://youtu.be/3aZS7On4etw 13 DAYS GONE BY Can : Gaing Gor Yut Seh Chau Yu Dong Dear Jane https://youtu.be/nwObYQkSC8w 12 WU KONG Can : Ng Hung Khalil Fong Datong https://youtu.be/G7Qkde1h_lM 11 FLOWER AND YOUTH Can : Fa Yi Wor Siu Nin Jacky Xie (Sit Ji Him) https://youtu.be/yKmds3ZJDq0 10 FAILURE AT LOVE Can : Oi Ching Fai Chai Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) https://youtu.be/2kdYSeoHChg 9 THIEF Can : Chak Penny Tai (Dai Pui Nei) https://youtu.be/VrPvEWcyUCc 8 BRIGHTEST STAR IN THE NIGHT SKY Can : Yeh Hung Jung Jui Leung Dik Sing G.E.M.
