I toughed it out and finished the scene, luckily it wasn't broken. It was already red and swollen." A gun hit Cai Jie's finger and she was bleeding. Tong Chi Yui was not hurt from the gun fight scenes but almost fainted. She said, "Holding a gun for a movie was very cool, but you have to pay the price. Under the blazing sun, I was holding a heavy machine gun during a chase, had eight to nine bad takes and almost fainted." Although she suffered, Yeung Szeki said that she still would like the chance to make an action film. She also denied that she got buff for the film. "I didn't train, maybe at the time my daughter was still little and needed to be carried; over time it kicked in. In addition I was lean to begin with, getting muscular was easy. Last night the film company held a celebration. Stars Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Ada Choi Siu Fun, DaDa Chan Jing, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming attended. Goo Jai heard the boss had intention to make a third film. Chilam said that he could play a vegetable, but would such a great job exist? Koo Tin Lok was very happy about the box office performance, but he did not have any expectation in advance. Ultimately he would have been happy with any good performance. He also revealed that he heard the boss' intention about a third film, probably with the original team. As for Chilam's character, Goo Jai said, "Actually Chilam's character didn't have an official ending." Would Goo Jai become an investor too? He did not answer directly. Speaking of the New World group founder Cheng Yui Tung passing away two nights ago, Goo Jai was surprised and asked it was true. He said that he has never met Uncle Tung. Has he bought his stocks and properties? Goo Jai said that he very rarely bought stocks and never bought any of the property that Uncle Tung's company built. Speaking of the film's good performance, Chilam said that he had to congratulate boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming. Did he get any bonus? He said, "Not for this one, but I did for some movies. For my company's movies I would. (Next time when you negotiate the film contract you could include a bonus?) That would be the best, the more the better, I wouldn't mind just getting a little either." Would he make another one? Chilam said that he would have to ask the boss. Even if he would he would not have time on his schedule until second half of next year, because he would have to make movies and a Mainland reality show. If the story was reasonable he could make another one. Chilam joked, "Would I play a vegetable? (You would be shooting the movie lying down, with the bonus you would greater benefit?) Does such a good job exist under Heaven?" Today Chilam would have to go to Shanghai with his wife Anita Yuen Wing Yi for a reality show. After learning that the box office exceeded HK$ 200 million Ada kept saying she was very happy. Because she has not made a movie in a very long time, she was very happy about such a performance. As for a bonus, she joked, "Probably definitely not, we get to share everyone's joy and reward. The Mainland response was great. This is the highest grossing film in my career." Ada also said that she has already confirmed to work on TVB's INBOUND TROUBLES 3. She said, "I made room on my schedule between November and January for the series. Cho Lam said that he couldn't talk about my character yet. On Jai (Roger Kwok) and I will play a couple, I am the second choice. I am just joking, the character will be different. The original team will play the other characters. I am very humble, the most important is to be happy and have fun." Ada pointed out that she will work with On Jai again after AT THE THRESHOLD OF AN ERA (CHONG SAI GEI II). Coincidentally she also worked with Goo Jai again on this film after that series. While she would be working on the TVB series would she have to make room on her schedule to make real money? She said, "I have my heart set on coming back, the producer probably would make time for me. However some of the projects might not be able to wait for my schedule. I win some and lose some. It doesn't matter. I won't regret my decision." Ada also revealed that she returned for the series to repay a debt, because earlier she owed TVB two series. After INBOUND 3 her contract would end. However she was happy about being able to use original sound ot make a series. Speaking of Uncle Tung's passing, did Ada know him? She said, "Few people in Hong Kong wouldn't know Brother Tung. When I heard the news I was very sad. Personally I didn't know him, but I have rented an apartment in New World and went to Chow Tai Fook to buy gold." * (2016/10/01) The Wong Jing directed new film MISSION MILANO (TAU TIN DUT MO)'s premiere took place two nights ago. Actors Andy Lau Tak Wa, Petrina Fung Bo Bo, Michelle Hu Yan, Ken Low Wai Kwong and Xu Dongdong attended. As soon as Wa Jai appeared, the audience on several floors of the shopping center screamed. The event celebrated Wa Jai's belated 55th birthday and presented him with a man in a suit cake, which made Wa Jai very happy. Wa Jai said that working with Huang Xiaoming in the film felt like when he worked with Nick Cheung Ka Fai on PRINCE CHARMING (HAK MA WONG JI). He explained, "I carry the burden of an idol, without any way to perform as wildly as he does. He can go all out, he can do whatever that is asked of him without any baggage!" wa Jai even praised Wong Jing for being very serious on this film. He finished shooting the previous film in Macau and returned to work on the scripts. The team also went to Italy for location shoots. Other than work everyone had a lot of fun. Wa Jai had a small scar on his forehead. He revealed that he accidentally injured himself while shooting in Prague. Did his wife and daughter have heartache from seeing it? Wa Jai said, "It's OK!" Speaking of Sister Bo Bo joking about him being her husband in the film and even had kiss and bed scenes in the film, Wa Jai joked, "They were all cut, I have a family, how can I take off my clothes on the silver screen again!" Sister Bo Bo thanked director Wong Jing for making her "god" Huang Xiaoming's mother, giving her scenes with Wa Jai and pretty clothes to wear. Thus she happily hug Wong Jing. Sister Bo Bo still happily said that this time she had five costumes that were as elegant as the Queen from head to toe. She said, "I really was dizzy from being so pretty, which I have never done before in my career. Wong Jing really treated me very well. People who asked me to make movies before gave me old and crazy roles. This time I have two hunks with me, I didn't even ask about the salary!" Sister Bo Bo lowered her voice when she talked, which made everyone think that she still was playing the wealthy wife in the film. She explained that actually earlier she had acid reflux so she had to speak softer. She said, "The tender me is rather good, I told the doctor not to cure me too soon. Just let me be gentle a little longer!" * (2016/10/01) The film SPECIAL FEMALE FORCE (LAT GAING BA WONG FA)'s actors Eliza Sam Lai Heung, Jeana Ho Pui Yu, Rose Chan Ka Wun and director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai two nights ago participated on the game show I HEART HONG KONG's taping. Jacqueline Wong Sum Wing, Timmy Hung Tin Ming and Mayanne Mak Mei Yan appeared in classic RETURN OF THE CONDOR HEROES costumes. Mak Mei Yan even dressed up as the giant condor. Sum Wing often screamed "condor" (which sounded like foul language) and cracked up everyone. Representing Aberdeen in the game, Ho Pui Yu said that she failed two driving tests in the district and that next month she will try again. Did her director boyfriend Philip Yung Tsz Kwong help her? "He told me to pay attention to be more exaggerated with road safety, in other words keep turning my head until it falls off. Actually the last time I failed because of someone else. When I turned onto the major road there was no car, but suddenly a car charged in. Although he apologized, I already failed." Jeana's earlier RTHK series received a lot of good review. Playing a single mother in the show she looked ugly and jaundice. Did her look scare her boyfriend? She said, "No, instead he was very happy." Would she like to have a child after playing a single mother? Jeana said, "I definitely will have a baby, my boyfriend is my Mr. Right." Sam Lai Heung earlier posted a photo on the MTR and received a lot of praise as many wanted to take the MTR with her. Heung Heung said that many pedestrians recognized her too, many were young female fans. "Some asked for photos, one female fan even protected and said that she would not post it publicly. She would only send it to her husband. I was very touched." Heung Heung said that she did not mind people asking for photos. Instead she did not want people to take photo of her in secret. Was it because she was caught jewelry shopping? She said, "Actually I went to a jewelry exhibit because the prices are cheaper. I also want to support young designers. I only spent 4 figures on two bracelets." * (2016/09/29) Director Scud (Wan Cheung)'s new category III film UTOPHIAN earlier was scheduled for 3 shows at the Hong Kong Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. They were sold out in 3 days. The film will be released officially next month, but the first poster has been banned. Scud yesterday said, "The first poster showed cracks and didn't pass inspection. Later we covered them with banners but still didn't pass. The censors' reason was 'as long as all four people give the impression that they are naked, it's too naked'. Earlier a foreign film had all 4 people naked on a bed but still passed, but mine didn't." In the end the "flood" version was passed. Scud joked that his friends thought the movie was about global warming. In addition, UTOPIANS had William Tang Tat Chi, Wong Hei and Vinci Wong Yin Chi as guest stars in a courtroom scene. * (2016/09/29) Korea's first zombie disaster film TRAIN TO BUSAN opened in Hong Kong on August 25th, after four days it already made HK$ 17 million and successfully broke the Gianna Jun starred MY SASSY GIRL's 14 year Hong Kong record to become the highest grossing Korean film in Hong Kong. As of three days ago, after 34 days in release TRAIN made HK$ 66.31 million to become the 16th highest grossing film in Hong Kong film history and surpassed all Chinese film to become Hong Kong Asian film box office champion. TRAIN even beat this year's Hong Kong film box office champion COLD WAR II (HONG JIN II)'s HK$ 66.24 million. * (2016/09/29) Huang Xiaoming and Andy Lau Tak Wa starred in the new film MISSION MILANO (TAU TIN DUT MO), which had a series of action scenes. Xiaoming in the end suffered a cheap blow from his opponent, succumbed to poison as his lips blew up. He said, "In order to handle a variety of action scenes, I trained for a very long time. I hope everyone would enjoy the results of my special training. This time I really gave my all, because my enemy poisoned me I turned into a 'big mouth'. Such a big mouth conceivably is very rarely seen! Everyone can enjoy my cute costume in the film." Wa Jai said that although action scenes would make position adjustments and practice many times before the official performance, strength was hard to control so pain was inevitable. For better results he had to keep playing despite the pain. * (2016/09/29) Director Wong Kar Wai reportedly will produce a Mainland reality show FERRYMAN OF TIME AND SPACE. Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai will appear as a guest on his first reality show performance. Reportedly his fellow FERRYMAN cast members Angelababy, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Luhan will appear as well since the show will be related to the new film. Guests on the program will talk about their personal wishes, as the program's "FERRYMAN girls" will assist in completing them. The show will look for top female artists of different personality, age, interest and style for the team. The show is planned to start production at the end of October. * (2016/09/29) The film KING OF DRUG DEALERS (JUI LUNG) yesterday held a production start ceremony at a Tuen Mun temple. Boss Yu Dong, director Wong Jing, actors Andy Lau Tak Wa, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Kent Cheng Juk Si, Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, Michelle Hu Yan and Xu Dongdong attended. When three "giants" Cheng Juk Si, Wong Jing and Chun Wong posed for a photo together, they almost busted through the camera. Cheng Juk Si could not help but joked, "The three of us together are at least 700 pounds!" Wa Jai was rumored to have secretly become a father again, but he did not respond. Wa Jai after 25 years played Chinese inspector Lui Lok again. Yesterday he appeared in a suit and "gel hair" look, seemingly he went back in age to play the role? Wa Jai said, "Now I am playing the Chinese inspector who was just promoted in the 60s. I am 50 something, I just celebrated my birthday yesterday!" The 55 year old Wa Jai revealed that on his birthday he celebrated with family and friends at dinner. As for his birthday wish, Wa Jai said, "Staying young!" As for not getting too many gifts this year, Wa Jai said that he received 8 to 10 "karaoke equipment of god". Reporters joked that he could sing with his whole family. He joked, "My family doesn't have 8 to 9 people!" Did he have a new member? He said, "No, I am telling everyone very clearly, once in while such a rumor would appear!" Reportedly his heart ached over his daughter being a media target, so he did not announce the birth of his son? Wa Jai repeatedly said, "No, no, everyone is already showing me a lot of respect. If they want to chase it wouldn't be like this. I am very comfortable at home." What did his little lover (daughter) give him for his birthday? Wa Jai pouted and said, "Nothing this year! Last year I got some Play Doh, this year she only sang the birthday song." Did she blow out the candles of him? He said, "That's right, you seemed to have witnessed it!" Speaking of Wong Jing revealing that both Wa Jai and Chi Tan have high salaries, Wa Jai said, "It has always been pretty high, but it's not as high as others!" Chi Tan's salary was 30 million RMB. Wa Jai said, "Everyone deserves it, the boss measures how much everyone is worth." Wa Jai said that this time he actually was giving a special performance, mainly because it was hard to cast for the role of Lui Lok he agreed to perform. Was he a guest performer? He said, "Not just that, I got paid, in comparison to Lee Rock before the price of course is different." Was he paid for an entire film? He said, "I hope so, ask Wong Jing!" Yen Chi Tan yesterday appeared as Crippled Ho with a cane in his hand. He even said a few lines in the Chouzhou dialect. He said that he has already studied for several months. In the past Ray Lui Leung Wai already gave a classic performance, he did not want to follow but hoped to attract new viewers with a new look. Chi tan in the film had a few fight scenes. He joked when the boss hired him he definitely would not want him to "just talk", even the street fights would have action designs as he did not want the audience to feel "cheated". He and Wa Jai would have a "one on one fight". Did he or Wa Jai win? He said, "Of course Brother Lok wins!" Yet he was the strongest in the universe? Chi Tan said, "You misunderstood the meaning of the strongest. Actors act, the strongest dares to try anything, the strength of courage! However I haven't worked with Wa Jai, this time I am very happy and very honored!" As for his 30 million RMB rumored salary, he avoided the topic. "It's meaningless to talk about money, don't talk about how much!" Brother Jing joked that after paying the salary he almost had no money to eat. Chi Tan said, "Mr. Lau is more expensive, people like me just have fun. He has always been more expensive than me. I don't charge a lot." Wong Jing revealed that KING OF DRUG DEALERS reached 200 million RMB in investment. Aside from Wa Jai and Chi Tan's high salaries, the film also had to build Kowloon Walled City and Lai Chi Kok Amusement Park sets. He also revealed that he asked Philip Ng Won Lung, Tong Chun Yip and Niki Chow Lai Kei to guest star. The film has not confirmed a release date as it will mainly aim for film festivals first. * (2016/09/29) Pakho Chau, Shiga Lin Si Nga, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Ava Liu (Yu Kiu) and Bob Lam Sing Bun two nights ago attended the film SINKING CITY CAPSULE ODYSSEY production wrap banquet. Pakho said that he will compete in the October 8th star auto race against Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Chin Kar Lok, Alex Fong Chung Shun and felt very excited. Cheung Kai Chung has been busy with another new film. Two nights ago he came during his break. Speaking of the scar on his arm, Ah Chung pointed out that he just finished a gang fight scene. Since he was so busy with film, would he not have time to be with his pregnant wife Kay Tse On Kay? He said that when he was not at work he was with his wife. He also revealed that his wife could not eat in the first three months because the baby was on her stomach. Now her condition has improved. Sometimes she would want cart noodle and he would drive from the New Territories to Hong Kong Island through two tunnels to get it. It was like a date for them and they were very happy. Becoming a father again after almost ten years, he thought that he would not be as touched second time around. Yet each time he saw his baby girl gradually growing on ultrasonic he was very touched. Has his son accepted becoming a brother soon? Ah Chung also said that earlier the family went to see a Chinese medicine practitioner, who said that his son had liver depression. Was he keeping his feeling inside? Ah Chung said, "My son has been sitting on the Heavenly King throne at home for ten years. Maybe he feels it's time to renounce the throne. So I am always instructing and talking to him. I believe when his sister is born he will be fine." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 30 2016, THE WEEK IN FILM CHINESE ODYSSEY 3 TOPS CHINESE BOX OFFICE On the eve of the October 1st National Day, Hong Kong and Mainland box offices remain in the light season. Last week in the Mainland the previous week's top four films remained on top. The Jeff Lau Chun Wai directed CHINESE ODYSSEY 3 (DAI WA SAI YAU 3) made 88 million RMB in first place, over two weeks it accumulated 338.86 million RMB. In the Mainland movies that carried the "JOURNEY TO THE WEST" banner all performed fairly well. This February's THE MONKEY KING 2 (SAI YAU GEI ji SUEN NG HUNG SAM DA BAK GWUT JING) made 1,189,240,000 RMB; the June animated film MONKEY KING: HERO IS BACK made 952.94 million RMB; CHINESE ODYSSEY 3 had the halo effect of two 90s Stephen Chow Sing Chi classic CHINESE ODYSSEY films. Even though without Chow Sing Chi, it had the two films' Karen Mok Man Wai as well as the superstar turned WOLF WARRIOR director Wu Jing. Thus te box office actually was not considered too great. In second place was the Peter Chan Ho Sun produced, Eric Tsang Chi Wai's son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed romance SOUL MATE made 69.5 million RMB. Over two weeks it made 142 million RMB, an increase from the previous week and seemingly had decent word of mouth. S STORM (S FUNG BO) made 69 million RMB in third place, two weeks it made 189 million RMB. With three young stars, it opened decently but dropped off a little in the second week. The Cao Baoping directed COCK AND BULL made 44 million RMB in fourth place, over two weeks it made 123 million RMB. Such a box office already showed that the top three has divided up the box office, without any single film that could run away with it. The new Hollywood animated film STORKS made 35 million RMB in fifth place, this week will open this week in Hong Kong. In addition, the Japanese animated film CHIBI MARUKO CHAN: A BOY FROM ITALY made 19 million RMB in sixth place. This film opened in Hong Kong in August and made HK$ 7.12 million; the foreign film BASTILLE DAY made 11.9 million RMB in ninth place; the Mainland horror film THE NIGHTMARE CALL made 1.98 million RMB in twelfth place; the Mainland romance ANOTHER WOMAN made 1.93 million RMB in thirteenth place. In the U.S., the Okrean director Kim Jee-Woon's THE AGE OF SHADOWS made US$ 165,000 in thirty first place. This film last month opened in Korea and was on top of the box office for three weeks in a row. Over three weeks it made 56,102,510,000 won. - LAM KAM BO 2. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 29 2016, ASIAN FILMS S STORM: ANTI CORRUPTION PACKAGING, CRIME FILM GENRE The subject of the Independent Commission Against Corruption may be the most unique to Hong Kong film. Among the countries and regions with high commercial film production rates around the world, seemingly only Hong Kong would bring the subject of anti-corruption to the silver screen as usual. - HUNG KWONG As early as 1975, seemingly at the same time as the Independent Commission Against Corruption's official television series, the Ng See Yuen directed film ANTI-CORRUPTION (LIM JING FUNG BO) was already a low budget, high box office topical film. After over 40 years, David Lam Tak Luk who worked on the Independent Commission Against Corruption television series ICAC INVESTIGATORS early in his career years later directed the film Z STORM (Z FUNG BO, 2014). It performed well at the Mainland box office, thus two years later his new film S STORM (S FUNG BO) appeared. Investigation Seems Childish S STORM like its predecessor involves Hong Kong charitable organization. This time appearing in the film the organization with under the table dealing is one that Hong Kong people are very familiar with -- the Jockey Club. However, the problem is not with the traditional horse racing betting but an even wider area -- soccer betting with even more participants. The protagonist in the film is still Z STORM's ICAC chief supervising investigator Luk Chi Lim. When he receives an anonymous tip to investigate the Hong Kong Jockey Club's soccer betting, a professional hitman kills the investigation target. As a witness Luk Chi Lim naturally is the witness to the police murder investigation. Yet due to the confidentiality rules of ICAC, Luk Chi Lim does not provide any information to the major crime unit detective Lau Bo Keung in his statement......the film is a very classic "police and ICAC conflict" investigation, as they face powerful outside soccer betting groups from Europe and Asia. The villain is active in Shenzhen, an underground bookie who controls both places. The investigation becomes a delicate cross border operation. The entire film starts with a police ICAC joint investigation. Lau Bo Keung who due to poor work attitude is assigned to entertain ICAC often is amazed with ICAC's advanced facilities and ample personnel. The film through his eyes and mouth stresses the professionalism of ICAC and even reflects the extraordinary abilities of the other protagonist Luk Chi Lim. Only, the investigation procedures in the film actually is rather childish. How the villain secretly control soccer matches, how to divide up risk with legal betting are actually only talked about without detailed depiction. The investigation and the case resolution all rely on undercover or criminal turned witness, as well as the protagonist's keen power of observation (relying on a pair of eyes to recognize a criminal). They are not like the traditional anti corruption series and films when under the table money exchange evidence is found in the books. The film also has a lot of gun fights and car chases, making this film seem even more like a crime film with an "anti corruption" flavored packaging. Such a plot reminds people of the recent hit film series COLD WAR (HONG JIN), which also has "police ICAC collaboration" and uses high tech surveillance. Only the COLD WAR film series is in an even grander scale, more excellent production and also more popular. This type of films often stresses high tech surveillance to commit or solve crimes. In the modern digital world, traditional investigation methods, whether with ordinary cases or corruption financial cases, have become almost ineffective. This more or less sacrifices the drama. Melodrama Without An Ending Lam Tak Luk among the numerous directors who have made the Independent Commission Against Corruption series serves the purpose of succeeding his predecessors and inspiring his successors. His ICAC INVESTIGATORS series changes from the early ICAC products' realistic style to package the ICAC cases with a rather commercial handling. For example, the protagonist has to capture a criminal who killed his father years ago and the undercover agent uses drugs to gain the trust of his investigation target. After 30 some years S STORM also has a lot of similar melodramatic touches, like the Cheung Chi Lam played Lau Bo Keung due to his gambling addiction owes money to loan sharks and thus his sister has to work at a bar at a young age for a living. (Yet how was he promote to a major crime department inspector position like this); Luk Chi Lim is also the romantic rival of his former superior who now works at the Jockey Club. This type of hints often appears in the film but nothing comes of it, leaving people baffled. Another spot that comes from the television age is "police ICAC collaboration". Early in the 70s series it is already been a joke, but now after being repeatedly played out on the silver screen Hong Kong audience seems to already be a little numb. As for the "tradition" of ICAC investigators would rather be disowned than accepting gifts, the director scoffs at it with lines like "today's agents have tripe and drink Baiju" in an attempt to stay relevant. However, the reality development is even faster than the dramatic imagination. 3. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 29 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH INDEPENDENT PRODUCER AND THE HONG KONG FILM INDUSTRY The biggest difference between independent film companies and major studios is in distribution. Distribution and marketing require a large sum of expenses that independent film usually is lacking; but the most important difference is in the ability to distribute. Major studios have distribution department and distribution network, so if a major studio distributes the same film, it definitely would be able to receive better benefits. Unfortunately, the current situation in Hong Kong is not like this, as the major studio advantage is already gone. In the last century, Hong Kong film revenue source mainly was Southeast Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong film box office and television rights (later). At the time, Hong Kong had many independent film production companies. Their Hong Kong releases required them to work with major studios like Shaw and Golden Harvest, companies with cinema control to distribute them. On the other hand, these independent production companies can sell their own film rights to Southeast Asia and Taiwan film buyers. The operation in this area is almost the same as the major studios. In other words, independent production companies' biggest hindrance at the time was Hong Kong theatrical distribution. Thus the financially able independent production companies like Cinema City and DB formed their own cinema circuits and turned into major studios. Today's situation is different from the last century, or completely different even from ten years ago because the film revenue source change has been turned upside down. Southeast Asian revenue still serves a little purpose, Taiwan seems to be there but actually is not. The Mainland revenue occupies over 70% (in terms of co-production films). Distribution advantage refers to Mainland distribution, which only Edko can do among Hong Kong companies. Yet Edko does not distribute every one of its own films either. This way, Hong Kong independent film production companies absolutely can rival the original major studios, because overseas and domestic distribution advantages have little difference. With Mainland distributions, major Hong Kong studios also have to "ask others" and have no advantage. The most difficult to deal with is the distribution and marketing expense budget, if independent film production companies work with Mainland distribution companies that can be taken care of. Thus Hong Kong major studios and capital deep medium sized film companies are no different from independent film producers. Although Hong Kong has few independent production companies on the surface, actually many directors' offices (or companies) are already no different in nature than independent film production companies. Their alliance partner targets are Mainland companies first because Hong Kong companies have no advantage in distribution in the most important Mainland cities. Why would Hong Kong directors still work with Hong Kong companies then? On one hand it is the relationship, on the other some Hong Kong companies even agree to directors' decisions to distribute. This point is unimaginable five years ago. Thus, Hong Kong actually already have a group of independent film producers, they are called directors. Yet underneath this camouflage, he is a martial arts master whose ancestors were goodwill thieves who rob from the rich for charitable intentions. With the beneficent genes inherited from his forefathers, he often fights against injustice and collaborates with the police to fight crimes. A university in Switzerland funded by Louis has successfully invented the “Seed of God”, a remarkable invention that enhances harvest on the most barren lands in just one minute. During a test demonstration, while Louis is amazed at how the “Seed of God” can put an end to famine, he can also foresee how it will drive agricultural societies into bankruptcy. Snow, leader of an international crime conglomerate "Crescent", raids the scene with her protégé, Phoenix. Equipped with high-tech sonic weapons, they seize the “Seed of God” and abduct its inventor. Interpol sends Sir Sampan Hung to work with Louis in a joint effort to retrieve the “Seed of God”. Somehow in the course of the chase, Louis and Bo have become grudge mates. Accompanied by Louis’ assistant, Amon and his sister, Ka-yan, they get into a fierce wit and fist game with “Crescent” and an even more powerful terrorist group “Kmax”. The battle field spans across Macau, Hong Kong and Milan. Finally, with the help of a mysterious undercover, they manage to recover the "Seed of God" from a laboratory in Milan through a series of deadly traps. Renowned for his explosive visuals and dynamic storytelling, he is a director who continually challenges and defies expectations. An ardent cinephile, Park juggled film directing and criticism in the 1990s before his commercial breakthrough Joint Security Area (JSA) in 2000, which broke local box office records and screened in competition at Berlin Film Festival. He then went onto make his first English language feature Stoker (2013), a Fox Searchlight film starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode, further cementing his status as an important global auteur. In The Handmaiden, which is inspired by Sarah Waters’ historical crime novel Fingersmith (2002), Park returns to Korea for one of his most ambitious productions yet.
