MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/09/28) The Juno Mak Chun Lung directed HK$ 150 million big production SON OF THE NEON NIGHTS (FUNG LAM FOR SAN) took over a year to prepare. It will be a crime film about drugs. The film will have many characters and stories, casting has been quite a headache. Earlier Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Nick Cheung Ka Fai were rumored to be the leads, but Wai Jai turned it down. Juno also gave up this team and later used Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) with Tony Leung Ka Fai. Gum Sing Mo's salary also was raised to 20 million RMB. Juno did not mind paying the high salary. Their negotiation was already finished and only the contract needed to be signed. Due to the large investment, Juno would only focus on directing. The film will start production early next year. Anthony Chan Yau will produce. Chan Yau said, "Many actors have been contacted, but now is not the time to make any announcement yet. I can't say anything until later when everything has been confirmed!" * (2016/09/28) Eddie Peng Yu-Yan and Zhang Hanyu starred in the action film OPERATION MEKONG is Dante Lam Chiu Yin directed. The film took three years to plan. Based on actual events, the film was shot on location in Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Yunnan. The production was so serious that it could rival Hollywood star class production. Director Lam Chiu Yin not only insisted on actual location shoots and real fighting for actors, but also flawless props. The final water battle scene used six helicopters and almost 40 speed boats at the same time. The car chased used nearly 100 luxury cars. No wonder Peng Yu-Yan during the shoot sensed how fragile life was. "The explosive equipment was set not too far from me. During the explosions the mud spray onto my face and into my ears. They felt so real and especially loud, like I was in a real battlefield!" The film fought from the shopping center in a busy city to the wilderness of the mountains, at sea, on the ground and in the air. Zhang Hanyu remembered the shopping center fight scene the most. He said, "The team booked a shopping center and set up a bar inside. We started fighting at night. In the end the entire set was completely blown to bits. It was a film that was full of gun fire!" * (2016/09/28) Yesterday was Andy Lau Tak Wa's 55th birthday. His wife Carol Chu was rumored to have given birth to a son overseas. However Wa Jai has always kept a low profile on his faimly and through public relations he said that he would not comment on his personal life. Wa Jai tomorrow night will attend the premiere in Tsuen Wan. Lau Tak Wa and Huang Xiaoming's comedy MISSION MILANO (TAU TIN DUT MO) will open on the 29th. In the film a terrorist group took away the "Lord's Seed" that was able to resolve the famine problem but might bankrupt farming countries, leading to a series of terror plots. The Lau Tak Wa played Interpol officer and the Huang Xiaoming played science and technology group chief teamed up to find the lost "Lord's Seed". Playing Huang Xiaoming's mother in the film, Petrina Fung Bo Bo often did something strange to "play prank" on her son Huang Xiaoming. In one scene after Huang Xiaoming returned home, he immediately encountered a series of tests from his mother and ended up being strangled and tied up. In the film, Fung Bo Bo would conduct different types of tests on Xiaoming. Sometimes she would beat him bloody. Xiaoming said, "Working with Sister Bo Bo was a lot of fun because she actually was a lot of fun. She and I got along very well, so when we were acting with each other we were very relaxed. We would often improvise, leading to more comedy that the script had and made everyone very happy during the shoot." Fung Bo Bo said, "After working with Xiaoming this time, I found out that he actually was a lot of fun. Thus sometimes I would play pranks on him, I never expected his reaction would be quick enough to pick them up. We ended up with scenes that cracked everyone up." In one scene Fung Bo Bo made "great soup" for Huang Xiaoming, but it actually came from the fish bowl. Huang Xiaoming out of filial duty did not dare to turn her down and break her heart, so he could only wolf down the "gold fish soup". * (2016/09/27) The 29th Tokyo International Film Festival will take place between October 25 to November 3. The event yesterday held a press conference to announce its film selections. The Francis Ng Chun Yu and Louis Koo Tin Lok starred SHED SKIN PAPA (TUET PEI BA BA) will be in competition. They played father and son. Ng Chun Yu played an 80 something father with Alzheimer's. Yesterday he said, "I am very happy, everyone's hard work is worth it." * (2016/09/27) The Pang Ho Cheung directed LOVE IN A PUFF film series has already reached the third installment LOVE OFF THE CUFF (CHUN GIU GAU JI MING). The film has already been confirmed for a production start at the end of next month. Last Wednesday Pang Ho Cheung publicly recruited guest stars on facebook. Ah Pang listed 4 categories of suitable people, including the day use intellectual youth, night use hipsters and the motion athletes. Even if you do not belong to the above three type, there is still a special category. Ah Pang said, "We are also recruiting a variety of the strange and the weird. If you feel you can do what others can't, come on down." Ah Pang said that in less than a week he has already received several hundred applications. "People always ask me 'what do I do if I don't fit into the four categories?' It doesn't matter, it's just for your convenience to categorize. The biggest shortage is with the hipsters, the dancing, hot ones are always missing. We are always looking for hot spot night owls." Ah Pang also revealed that many applied from overseas. "Some overseas fans applied, they even said that they could buy their own plane tickets and hotels as long as we could give dates for them to take time off. However the shoot schedule is constantly changing, which is very stressful on us." Ah Pang said that due to script changes, Jimmy's Papa has not appeared yet. * (2016/09/27) Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Cathy Tsui Chi Kei yesterday attended a Save the Children press conference to announce Chi Tan as the ambassador. Chi Tan revealed that earlier he went to Thailand for his new film KING OF DRUG DEALERS (JUI LUNG). After two weeks he got much tanner; the film will officially start production in Hong Kong tomorrow. Was he "itchy" from not having to fight? Chi Tan said, "I can't be happier about not having to fight, it's a new challenge. I haven't run into this genre before. I like to challenge myself. As an artist I have to have the guts and the courage in order to improve. I look forward to working with (Andy) Lau Tak Wa for the first time very much." * (2016/09/26) Andy Hui Chi On two nights ago performed at the TVB Yan Oi charity show. After performing his new song UNSAFE ZONE he rushed to the Hong Kong Coliseum to support his wife Sammi Cheng Sau Man's concert. He stated that he never thought about getting on the stage and be a guest. Was he afraid that Dayo Wong Tsz Wah would make fun of him again for being the "worst guest"? On Jai said, "I already plan to get together with Tsz Wah at the end of October. I promised to give him a bottle of wine. Last time he already helped me with my music video. I hope to get him drunk then so his thinking will be more positive, instead of something silly like 'Hui Sing But Hui Bai' (Only Victory Is Allowed)." On Jai's new film NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI) will open at the end of October. He hoped to make more movies in the future. Would he accept any deranged roles? He said, "A deranged killer would be good, actually I don't have any specific characters. If the director is willing to let me try an unexpected character, I believe it would be a good thing. (would you have any problem with working with Sammi?) I can, actually we have done it before like in FEEL 100% AGAIN. (You can even play a couple?) The most important would be the roles' potential. I can even play a deranged killer and kill her, something like that would be more entertaining." * (2016/09/26) Louis Chung Kai Chung and Bob Lam Sing Bun are working on the Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed new film L FOR LOVE L FOR LIES TOO (SUT LUEN YUT). Two nights ago the super pregnant Kay Tse On Kay paid a surprise visit to the set. It happened to be Bob's 37th birthday as Kay and the actors celebrated with him. During the group photo Ah Chung even put his arm around his wife's shoulder. Kay revealed that after a reunion with her university classmates she visited the set on the set. She even said that she has not keep her husband company on any all night shoot. "I didn't leave very late. I sat for awhile and left around 11 PM. I am very good. (You were wearing platform shoes!) I got bigger, and had very few pairs of shoes that fit. I am also used to wearing heels, I can handle platform shoes and I feel more comfortable." Kay even revealed that she constantly visited the set for more time to see her husband. Bob was asked what kind of present Kay gave him. He said, "She of course gave me something, she gave me a blessing." Already a father of three girls, Bob said that he would give his daughters' clothes and toys to Kay. In addition, he revealed that this birthday was very memorable. "Earlier (Penny) Chan Kwok Fung, (Oscar) Leung Lit Wai and the TVB Program BIG BOYS CLUB producer celebrated with her. At night when we worked on the movie, Yip Lim Sum suddenly brought out a cake and everyone sang Happy Birthday. It really was very surprised." * (2016/09/25) Xenia Chong Shui Yi earlier demanded a contract termination with her management company over "exceeding her bottom line". Chong Shui Yi was reportedly upset over the company taking a new film with an oral sex scene with Gregory Wong Chung Hiu for her. Although she immediately turned it down, she stated that the company kept "questioning" her. Lead actor Wong Chung Hiu admitted that he contacted her management company about the film, after learning that she was unwilling he let it go. He said, "Actually the scene was only conceptually handled, it wasn't like it was real. She was only one of the choices anyway." He stressed that everything would be expressed through acting. * (2016/09/25) The Dante Lam Chiu Yin directed, Eddie Peng Yu-Yan and Zhang Hanyu starred crime action film OPERATION MEKONG will open Friday for the National Day slot. Two days ago the creative team was invited to attend the Silk Road Film Festival closing ceremony. At the morning press conference, Peng Yu-Yan said that for his drug intelligence agent character in the film he had to completely transform his appearance. From the start it was very hard for him to accept. Lam Chiu Yin said that he made this film to seek justice for China. OPERATION was based on the shocking October 15 Mekong River multinational case. Speaking of his initial intention of making the film, Lam Chiu Yin said that when 13 innocent comrades met their demise outside the country every Chinese people's hearts were filled with anger. He made this film not only to provide the respect that the lost lives deserved but also to seek justice for China. Zhang Hanyu said on a video, "This is a search for justice for our 13 comrades who died innocently. It also tells the entire world, anyone who kills our comrades would pay an eye for an eye." The film also revealed for the first time the behind the scene secrets of the production. Over the past three years in order to bring the film to actual locations, Lam Chiu Yin brought everyone back to the scene of the crime, scouted locations all over and visited the Mekong River many times. He even visited a drug trade village. During the shoot he even suffered the various obstacles like weather changes, complicated geography and bug swarms. Lam Chiu Yin admitted, "Many scenes in this film for me were first attempts. This time with OPERATION MEKONG, from the start of its preparation I already predicted unprecedented difficulties." He also felt deeply honored to shoot the first Chinese police overseas law enforcement case into a film. Peng Yu-Yan who has already worked with Director Lam three times displayed an evil image that was drastically different from his sunny handsome image. He admitted, "At the beginning I wasn't too used to this look either. After changing I was often unrecognizable on the set. Actually I never thought of making a living with my face. Actors should meet the characters' demands. I am willing to attempt any challenging role." In addition, in order to be even close to his character, Peng Yu-Yan under Lam Chiu Yin's "inhumane" special training learned English, Thai, Burmese, gun and Muay Thai training, which made him into an "all propose warrior" after the completion of the film. * (2016/09/25) The Kearen Pang Sau Wai directed, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Chrissie Chau Sau Na starred city woman film 29+1 and famous Mainland director Feng Xiaogang's I AM NOT MADAME BOVARY have been selected as the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival closing films next month. Yesterday the event began advanced sales for two shows of 29+1 on October 31st at the Broadway Cinematheque and sold out in a hour. The film was very excited about the news. Joyce said, "Wow! I am very happy! At first when I learned that this film was selected to be the closing film I was already very touched. My previous films were mostly funny or guest star roles. This time I have more screen time and a more serious role in the movie. In addition during the shoot I also had to promote another film GODDESS and my own record. My work stress level was at the point of explosion. Now with such a great response at the film festival, I am truly very happy. I hope everyone would like it." Chrissie also admitted that during the shoot she was approaching the age of 30, she provided a special experience for her and thus thanked all the outside support. * (2016/09/24) The Wong Jing directed action comedy MISSION MILANO (TAU TIN DUT MO) yesterday held its Guangzhou press conference. Andy Lau Tak Wa, Wong Cho Lam, Michelle Hu Yan attended with Wong Jing. They introduced their characters. Wa Jai first said, "Before I was always the most handsome one with the best kung fu in movies. This time however I took the most beating, even from foreign thugs." Wong Jing joked that in the past he watched him beat up other people, which was not fresh enough anymore. "Watching others hit you is more entertaining". Wong Jing even asked the guests to applaud for him. Seeing how few applauded, Wa Jai saw the chance to play pitiful. "Since there is so little applause, don't hit me anymore." Everyone cracked up. A fan was curious about Wong Jing having his own film releases every year and truly living up to his name as a highly productive director. Wong Jing said that MISSION will be his 97th film and he will soon reach 100. As everyone praised him as a model worker, Wong Jing felt that with Wa Jai around he did not dare to wear the model worker label. However, Wong Jing even daringly analyzed himself. He had no fear of "ruining his own label". "The movies that I make have very vulgar jokes but also have many handsome guys and pretty girls." When Wong Jing was able to continue, Wa Jai cut in and said, "They also paid a lot of money". As for the inevitable box office question, Wong Jing revealed that he did not have a lot of pressure. The most important was for everyone to be able to laugh. Wa Jai personally wrote the lyrics for the new film's theme song LAUGH A LAUGH. He even invited Huang Xiaoming and Shen Teng to sing with him. When asked about the initial intention of the theme song, Lau Tak Wa said that he hoped to create a song with a little Hong Kong classic wuxia flavor -- amid heroic righteousness everyone could still laugh a laugh. Wa Jai earlier got mad over the security pushing fans at the Beijing premiere. To coordinate with Wa Jai, Wong Cho Lam kept his character under wraps during the introduction. "When you see that pair of underwear, you already know my character." Cho Lam could not help but complain about the director. "Before the shoot, the director said that Yi Ling and I would have a lot of love scenes. I thought it would be with Jolin Tsai, it ended up with Evonne Sie." He also said that in the film he would put his great rear on display. * (2016/09/24) Phoenix Entertainment yesterday held a strategic press conference in Beijing. In the story Joyce fell into the rapids and was on the edge of death. Her members dove into the river to save her. Joyce during the shoot could not help but cry. "I remember that day was my birthday. My character was very clumsy. The scene in which I fell into the rapids was the most terrifying. Before I jumped I cried. I haven't been married or had children, I had a lot that I haven't done yet. I didn't want to die!" The ladies walked the rope bridge in the woods. Jeana was extra excited. "I like excitement, now I want to try sky diving. Fear of heights or water to me is no problem. Yet during the shoot everyday I lacked sleep and was exhausted physically. I was so tired that when I got back to the hotel I would fall asleep in three minutes!" * (2016/09/23) The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Jessie Li (Chun Xia) and Michael Ning (Bak Ji) starred film PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) yesterday was confirmed to be the Hong Kong representative in competition for the Oscar Best Foreign Film nomination. This film won seven major awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards. As for Taiwan, the Kai Ko Chen-Tung starred new film THE ROAD TO MANDALAY did not qualify because it was not released long enough there. Instead LOKAH LAQI will compete. No news on which film will compete for Mainland China yet. Kwok Fu Sing was excited. "I am very excited to learn that PORT OF CALL will represent Hong Kong to compete for a Best Foreign Film Oscar nomination. I am also very honored. This is the honor of the entire team. I also am sincerely happy for director (Philip) Yung Tsz Kwong and the entire team. Everyone back then firmly and persistently made this subject that cared about Hong Kong, this passion was correct. This truly was a very pure Hong Kong film, thank you investors for your trust. No matter how the nominations go, everyone is already very encouraged and excited. Everyone will continue to make excellent films with this encouragement." Although lead actress Chun Xia was working in Miyun, she was happy about PORT's recognition. "I am sincerely happy for this film! PORT OF CALL nowadays is not a 'big' movie. It is a 'small' movie. Yet this 'small' made me feel it was even more intimate and liked it. Today everyone recognize it, giving it a chance, permitting it to represent Hong Kong, it is very rare and very emotional. It means that everyone respect and value this type of 'small'. We as creators are grateful and humble, ultimately this film's journey has already gone further than we thought. Thank you everyone." * (2016/09/23) The Wong Jing written and directed, Andy Lau Tak Wa and Huang Xiaoming starred comedy MISSION MILANO (TAU TIN DUT MO) was shot on many locations, including Milan, Italy. During the shoot, Wa Jai treated the team to ice cream on a cold day and even asked the actors to play cool. Wong Cho Lam said, "Although I didn't really understand why Lau Tak Wa would take us to have ice cream on such a cold day, but I believe that he is training us. To have ice cream in the icy cold weather while playing cool, an actor has to maintain his best no matter how poor the environment is and to achieve the director's demand. However it really was very cold. Afterward I immediately ordered a hot drink to warm up my belly." Wa Jai explained, "I sincerely wanted to treat everyone to ice cream. On a rare trip to Italy, I know that the ice cream here is great. No matter how cold it was we had to have it at least once. As for playing cool, because we were very relaxed we constantly made some very chok poses. I was only trying to get everyone to play along." * (2016/09/22) ViuTV's beauty pageant program D.n.A.is heating up. When I saw the script my jaw dropped, but I could accept how far it goes. If the story requires it I have no bottom line in any performance." In the story guys fought over Larine. "It also has a lot of room for imagination." * (2016/09/22) Artists Eric Suen Yiu Wai, Lemon Yip Chi Yu, Rose Chan Ka Wun and Rachel Chau Ka Lei earlier attended the National Arts film company boss Checkley Sin Kwok Lam's martial art school relocation worship ceremony. Eric admitted that after working with Master Sin on the upcoming film release OUR DAYS (NGOR MOON DIK 6E BAN) he has always thought about studying kung fu. Master Sin immediately sparred with him. Master Sin said that Eric had potential to be an action actor. "After the movie, Eric wanted to keep learning and training in kung fu. He is an artist with a lot of heart and has a little kung fu background. He has a lot of potential to be an action actor. Normally I wouldn't openly accept students, I only teach people I know well. After he heard he even joked that he wouldn't mind being Chan Ka Wun's junior colleague." Playing a couple with Eric in the new film, Yip Chi Yu has a Tae Kwan Do black belt and was a Wing Chun coach. She kept on trying to get Eric to talk about kung fu. Carlos Chan Ka Lok's film with Kara Wai Ying Hung, HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) made HK$ 2 million at the box office but won all the word of mouth. THus he still would take everyone to dinner, but definitely would not celebrate by going skinny dipping. Since the film was a family film that would seem inappropriate. He was pleased with his steel beam shape and could consider it next time. Ka Lok will head to Thailand for a horror film. He said that it would be his fourth horror film this year. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 23 2016, THE WEEK IN FILM JAPANESE ANIME YOUR NAME STARTS A HOT TOPIC Recently the most talked about film has been the Japanese animation YOUR NAME, which has topped the Japanese box office chart for four weeks in a row. Over four weeks it accumulated 9.1 billion yen and had hope to become this year's highest grossing domestic production. Released in Hong Kong last month, SHIN GODZILLA also performed decently at the Japanese box office. Over eight weeks it made 6,990,960,000 yen. Yet in terms of budgets, conceivably YOUR NAME's was lower than SHIN GODZILLA's so it made more money. With such a momentum, the film conceivably will catch Hong Kong distributors' eyes and YOUR NAME will probably be released in Hong Kong later. Back to the Mainland box office, Chinese film finally returned to form. Jeff Lau Chun Wai's return to JOURNEY TO THE WEST, CHINESE ODYSSEY 3 (DAI WA SAI YAU 3) starred Han Geng, Tiffany Tang Yan, Wu Jing and Karen Mok Man Wai, continued the Stephen Chow Sing Chi starred CHINESE ODYSSEY (SAI YAU GEI)'s story and made 250.37 million RMB to reach the top spot; the David Lam Tak Luk directed S STORM (S FUNG BO) starred Louis Koo Tin Lok, Julian Cheung Chi Lam and Vic Chou. It opened with 119.07 million RMB in second place. Its predecessor made 93.35 million RMB without much promotion. The second film had three major stars so such a performance was passing. In Hong Kong it also made HK$ 3 million. The Cao Baoping directed Mainland crime film COCK AND BULL opened in third place with 78.43 million RMB; the Peter Chan Ho Sun produced, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed, Zhou Dongyu and Sandra Ma starred SOUL MATE opened with 72.2 million RMB in fourth place in a decent showing; after three weeks in release STAR TREK BEYOND made 58.32 million in fifth plavce, over three weeks it made 416.81 million RMB. In addition, Hong Kong director Oxide Pang Shun's war film MY WAR starred Liu Ye and Wang Luodan. It opened with 25.17 million RMB in eighth place in an average performance; the Mainland animated film GODBEAST MEGAZORD: RETURN OF THE GREEN DRAGON opened with 6.1 million RMB in eleventh place. In the U.S., Cao Baoping's COCK AND BULL also opened last week on 12 screens and made US$ 35,000 in forty ninth place. - LAM KAM BO 2. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 22 2016, ASIAN FILMS TSUKIJI WONDERLAND ANALYZES THE JAPANESE FISH EATING CULTURE Tsukiji fish market may be one of the Tokyo landmark that is the most familiar to Hong Kong people who to eat, shop and play. The restaurants there have lines everyday. The market's first tuna auction of the year has become Japanese eatery's promotional gimmick. Perhaps only a film about such a place would be able to become a Japanese documentary that can be released in Hong Kong cinemas. Yet, to the viewers of TSUKIJI WONDERLAND, is this a documentary or a travelogue? - HUNG KWONG The star of the film, The Tsukiji fish market, was built before 1981. It was used to replaced the Nihonbashi fish market that was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake. This is a Tokyo city government built wholesale market. As Japan's largest wholesale market, at its peak operation it reached 3 billion yen and over 3,000 tons of tuna. However, director Natoaro Endo was not concerned with these numbers, but the rules that maintain the market's daily operation. These rules are operational laws for intermediary distributors. This group of people are key figures who bid on the catches everyday at the market then transfer them to retailers and restaurant owners. The film captures a variety of what the intermediary distributors like sorting the catches. Of course the most important is their daily auction bidding, then the interaction between them and their clients, mainly restaurant chefs. Singing The Praises Of Traditional Craftsman Culture The film is divided up by the four seasons of spring, summer, fall and winter, aside from the differences between the fish market operation and catches, to coordinate with the film's other main plot -- Japan's fish eating culture. Different seasons yield different catches, so the food is different. The film stresses in Kanto, where Tokyo resides, chefs would delegate up their jobs a lot. The knife cut sashimi would not be mixed with cooked food, different from their colleagues in Kansai. Tokyo chefs see themselves a part of the traditional "craftsman", in pursuit of the same craft for a lifetime like cutting fish or making tempura; like the Tsujiki fish market's fish merchants who also specialize in a certain type of fish. This type of singing the praises of Japanese traditional craftsman culture and the tireless and detailed introduction of each chef's work gave people the impression that this was a promotional film for Japanese cuisine culture. Of course, actually this film had a very important observer point of view. An American anthropologist led the director throughout the market and told the audience every afternoon the most active in the most were actually cats. Then we discovered that the several subjects that the camera followed earlier were friends that the American anthropologist made years ago while conducting the field study. All of these, like getting an aerial overview of the entire Tsujiki structure, were not the Tsujiki that tourists who went for the "pilgrimage" or "looking for food" usually saw. The most familiar scene to everyone in the film might be the tuna auction that often appeared on television programs. Yet, amid the praises of the Japanese food culture some noise appeared here. In the film the tuna distributors kept stating that this year's catches have been few, business has been very poor as they looked forward to the business improving next year. This reminded the writer of this year's Chinese documentary film festival selection TRAPPED AT SEA, LOST IN TIME about a Taiwan fishing boat that traveled far to the South Pacific to catch fish. The captain also complained about the drastic reduction in catches in recent years. This actually was very normal. After Japan and other Asian nations' excessive fishing, top of the food chain organism like tuna has long faced extinction.......however, TSUJIKI WONDERLAND did not discuss this mood killing topic. The film was concerned with another crisis. Consumer Lifestyle Change With the popularity of instant food and changes in lifestyle, fewer and fewer Japanese people cook fish at home. Thus the fish retail numbers downstream from the Tsujiki market has drastically been reduced. The film spent a lot of time on how the fish merchants sell products to the younger generation, teach them how to cook, how to choose and even organize to provide fresh catches to schools for nutritious lunches. This provides children with a chance to come in contact with the while fish and even learn how to eat fish as a part of their lessons. Seemingly, the power of the consumer culture to change lifestyles truly should not be underestimated. Instant food is Japanese soft power than is far stronger than sushi. The Tsujiki fish market also something and a dark history that the film did not mention. In 1954, this market halted operation after accepting the radiation contaminated catches from the fishing boat Daigo Fukuryu Maru. These catches that no one bought were buried somewhere in the market. As the fish market will soon to be relocated (The relocation project that was originally scheduled for November now due to the new location Toyosu Market's unresolved land pollution problem has been indefinitely postponed) the material that was contaminated with hydrogen bomb fallout would have a chance to be surfaced again. The Daigo Fukuryu Maru incident caused the first death from a hydrogen bomb, which also became the source of inspiration for the same year film release GODZILLA. 3. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 22 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH INDEPENDENT PRODUCER AND HONG KONG FILM INDUSTRY A real film producer plays a major role. From finding funding to managing the budget, finding the director to negotiating with actors he or she has to do it all. After the film is completed the producer also has to handle distribution and promotion, which can be said as truly exhausting to the body and the mind. Of course, some producers in name only can manage a very little part or even not at all. Among the producers the independent producer's job is even more important. Independent producer operates independently, in other words a non major studio producer. The advantage is more freedom on the job, but the responsibilities and the risks are even greater. If the film makes money, their profit will be higher as well. In the U.S., independent producers has difficulty with funding as well. Because they do not approach the major studios, they or their ideas have to be trustworthy to investors. Many famous directors in order to shake off major studio control ask independent producers or become independent producers themselves to find investors, the results of which have not been too great. The reason is not with the funding but with the distribution and marketing. Film distribution does not occur after the film's completion. The reason is very simple, as distribution is related to the film's financing. Independent producers' films would have difficulties with signing major studio or major distribution company contracts. In the U.S. major companies number in ten or less. Without a distribution contract with them or other companies, signing the insurance company's contract completion guarantee would be hard. Without the contract completion guarantee, the bank does not approve the loan so the producer would have to find funding elsewhere. Thus, some independent producers after completing the film production immediately ask distributors to watch the film then sign the distribution contract to get the contract completion guarantee from the insurance company (because the film has already been completed the contract signing would be easy). Thus they rush to borrow money form the bank to pay off expenses. In addition, some independent producers after packing the film projects would sell part of the rights according to regions or windows (cinema, television and internet) to major studios as the production nears its start. In other words, the major studio has become one of the investors. Major studio distribution has its advantages. It can raise the price higher because in any window it is a major client. Because it has endless big film supplies, it can take advantage as the big client. In addition, the distribution and marketing cost that can almost rival the production cost can be a huge burden to independent producers, in comparison to a major studio that is a weak spot. Thus, successful independent producers not only has to have better foresight than others but also very high distribution ability and network. The job is absolutely not easy. The current situation in Hong Kong is different from the U.S., because Hong Kong's major studios (big film companies) aside from ample funding have already lost past major studio advantages and turned into independent producers in nature. That was truly unexpected ten years ago. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] THE ADVENTURERS AKA : ONCE A THIEF Can : Hup Doh Luen Mung Lit : Heroic Thief Alliance d. While Lau was in hot pursuit of the assassin, the assassin escaped with the help of Lau’s sister, Ebby. The hired hit was ordered by Big Boss, the mastermind behind an international crime syndicate who manipulated football matches in Europe. His partner was Ha Chi Yin, one of the directors of the Jockey Club who was the shoo-in candidate as the next Chairman. Two disciplined forces embarked on the case with mutual distrust ended up with rapport and understanding to uproot the crime syndicate...
