She has provided her voice to this character since the first McDull film. In the film McDull's dream was to defend Earth, which others felt was silly. If one day her daughter would have a dream that others felt was silly would Kwan Yu support her? Kwan Yu said, "I feel it's good for children to have dreams. Don't think that they are silly. I too hope my daughter has dreams. I would definitely support her and help her fulfill them." * (2016/09/07) The film HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) last night held a charity premiere. Boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing, actor Kara Wai Ying Hung, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Chin Siu Ho, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, James Ng Yip Kwan, Teresa Mak Ka Kei attended. Other guests included Irene Wan Bik Ha and Michelle Wai Sze Nga. Sister Siu Hung was not too nervous at the premiere because earlier five advanced screenings were held in Hong Kong. They were all sold out and had good word of mouth. Many viewers cried. Some even went home and hug their mothers after watching the movie. Some Mainland viewers even immediately called their mothers. Sister Siu Hung said that tomorrow she will work the film with her family and co-workers, but because her mother had Alzheimer's disease she could only play the video for her later. Was she confident about an award nomination? Sister Siu Hung said that she did not think about it, as it was too early to say. Chan Ka Lok was very nervous. Because it was his first lead role in his ten year career, he invited his parents and girlfriend Jennifer Yu Heung Yi. Only his 80 year old grandmother was afraid of the crowd and did not come. Ka Lok said, "I really want to share it with Grandma. Because when I got into the business I had to study acting and guitar, Grandma supported me financially. I also really want Mommy to see Sister Siu Hung, mainly I feel they are very similar." Wai Sze Nga just worked with Nicholas Tse Ting Fung on COOK UP A STORM (SIK SUN DUI KUET ji FUNG MEI GONG WU) and with Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and Maggie Cheung Ho Yi on MISS SUNSHINE (SING NUI KEI LUEN). The Malaysia invested MISS was a story about three women. Other than the shoot she even got to travel, going to have durian and check out real estate with Cheung Ho Yi. A ocean view villa caught Sze Nga's eyes. "I can't buy a home in Hong Kong, but the property prices there are 2/3 of Hong KOng's. It's truly a dream come true!" * (2016/09/07) The film ZOMBIOLOGY: ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT (GUM MAN DA SONG SI) production wrap banquet took place two nights ago. Actors Alex Man Chi Leung, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Carrie Ng Ka Lai, Michael Ning (Bak Ji) and Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling attended. With his wife Kay Tse On Kay's pregnancy rumors, Ah Chung said that that day the entire family went to support his son's soccer team try out. Lately when the neighbors saw him they would congratulate him, but for now he had nothing to announce yet. Was he afraid that the pregnancy was less than three months and the baby would be petty? Ah Chung said, "If I can't say then I really can't say, thank you for your blessing. My wife and my family are all very happy. When I have something I can say then I would say it!" Was Kay getting fat and hence the "belly"? Ah Chung protected his wife and joked, "As a husband I can't see it at all, my wife is so hot!" He also said that his wife has been eating and traveling everyday on her vacation, felt great and very healthy. She was just as high quality as she ever was. As for parenthood plans, Ah Chun admitted that he would welcome it. They already had a plan and if they truly had good news they would announce it to everyone. Man Chi Leung said that this time he had many flirting scenes with Ng Ka Lai. With his diabetes, he got to work every other day so he would have ample rest to perform. Bak Ji and Ngan Cheuk Ling worked as a couple for the first time, did he advise them not to only focus on dating? Man Ji joked, "I am not their parents, I feel the new actors all perform outstandingly." Man Ji will turn 60 in July. He said that he already had plans to try either directing or producing. He said, "Nothing has been set yet, because I plan to work until 66. My son will be 21 then. However acting can't accommodate my health and may not be as successful. So I still plan to retire next year at 60. If I can I will fulfill my wish of directing a film and then producing a television series." Bak Ji and Ngan Cheuk Ling worked as a couple. Did they argue over the performance or did their relationship improve with time? Bak Ji said that he and his girlfriend had academic discussions. The growth of their relationship had nothing to do with the movie. Because they have not been dating long, it still felt very fresh. Ngan Cheuk Ling would not mind working with her boyfriend again. Bak Ji chimed in and said that he looked forward to it very much, but he did not want to attract jobs with his relationship. When they made this film the team did not know that they were dating. Mainly they wanted to do what actors should do. * (2016/09/07) The Raymond Wong Pak Ming produced, David Lam Tak Lun directed, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Vic Chou Yu Man, Ada Choi Siu Fung, Bowie Lam Bo Yi, Dada Chen Jing, Janelle Sing Kwan, Shek Sau starred Mid Autumn slot film S STORM (S FUNG BO) will be released simultaneously in Hong Kong and China on September 15th. In the film Chou Yu Man played a lone assassin. Because he was a war orphan he was trained to be a professional killer since childhood. Lam Bo Yi was Lun Tim Yuen, a former ICAC agent and current Jockey's Club security manager. Thus he naturally had a hand in uncovering the corruption case. Because of a corruption case, Lam Bo Yi discovered key evidence became the target. Chou Yu Man was ordered to sneak into Lam Bo Yi's home and kill him as he was preparing to call. The director deliberately arranged for this scene for the Hong Kong and Taiwan television best actors not only to increase the tension but also for Lam Bo Yi and Lam Yu Man to display their acting. Lam Tak Luk said, "Jai Jai and Bo Yi's acting are more reserved. This scene obviously relied on acting. They also had to fight while acting, it absolutely wasn't simple at all." This time was the first time that the two television best actors worked together. Lam Bo Yi said that the lack of dialogue was a lot of fun. "If acting had dialogue it would drive the entire atmosphere, but this time with Jai Jai we only relied on our eyes to perform this intense scene, only relying on eyes and action for the audience to experience the tense atmosphere of this scene. Although it was highly difficult, I had a lot of fun." * (2016/09/06) Shu Qi and Stephen Fung Tak Lun have been working on the film THE ADVENTURERS (HUP DOH LUEN MUNG) in Prague before and after their wedding. The team released photos of them with lead actor and producer Andy Lau Tak Wa and actor Tony Yang. Fung Tak Lun as the director of course spent more time at work than lead actress Shu Qi. Perhaps out of boredom Shu Qi played with math questions online but then posted "I quit learning!" According to the team, on the set Shu Qi respected her husband very much and the director was the boss. Yet normally the wife was in charge and Director Fung rather enjoyed giving up control. Producer Lau Tak Wa said that Fung Tak Lun and Shu Qi's wedding was very secretive. The team had no idea at all. In the film Lau master thief Tak Wa returned and teamed up with Shu Qi and Tony Yang in hopes of avoiding the cop Jean Reno. Wa Jai and Jean Reno were in a cat and mouse battle of wits as they crossed Europe to find a rare treasure. At the same time the team also released a photo of Fung Tak Lun and Jean Reno at work. The film will open next summer. * (2016/09/06) Andy Lau Tak Wa, Huang Xiaoming and Wong Cho Lam's film MISSION MILANO will open in the Mainland on October 1. In the trailer Lau Tak Wa took on Wong Cho Nam in three rounds of competition. In the "pajama" contest wa Jai slept in regular striped pajamas while Wong Cho Nam appeared only in a pair of Doraemon underwear. Wa Jai then put on an uniform while Cho Nam used his kill shot female disguise. The final contest was posing in the same coat. Wong Cho Lam said that Lau Tak Wa was his idol. "I am already very handsome, but Brother Wa is even sharper! He really got to the height that he is at today for a reason, I have to learn from him and do every job well." Lau Tak Wa also admired Cho Lam and praised him as a serious comedy actor, with a lot of interesting ideas in his head. He joked, "I still feels I am a little sharper." * (2016/09/06) Wilson Lam Chun Yin, David Siu Chung Hung and Grace Lam Nga Sze last night attended an event. Lam Chun Yin has been working in the finance industry, he also has invested in film financing for the first time as a producer. Would he ask his daughter Denice Lam to perform? Lam Chun Yin said that he would let her try any suitable role, but she is only 21. She still lacked experience and could take her time. Siu Chung Hung has been busy with the film NAPPING KID (YIK HEUNG YAU GWAI), based an a Japanese award winning novel. In it he would play a cop. He has always been in negotiation for new films and series. * (2016/09/04) Artist Gregory Wong Chung Hiu two nights ago attended a film event with singer Ellen Loo (Lo Hoi Tung). His new film JOK GA DIK FONG YIN (LIE OF AN AUTHOR) due to character issue ran into an obstacle. The production has been postponed until October. He said, "I want the film to have a cast that can help. Earlier I absorbed a lot of experience. A pure Hong Kong film can fail in Hong Kong still has the Mainland market to help out, because I believe the star effect in the Mainland." He stated that he already had a "pretty decent" cast but could not reveal it yet. * (2016/09/04) Working together for the first time on the 1997 film BISHONEN (MEI SIU NIN JI LUEN), Stephen Fung Tak Lun and Shu Qi after 20 years of ups and downs yesterday suddenly announced their wedding in Prague. Many in the business were surprised. The new couple even sent a lot of sweet and pretty photos. In a wedding gown Shu Qi showed her happy side, but stressed repeatedly that she did not wed because she was with child. Reportedly they are currently in Prague, Czech Republic to shoot THE ADVENTURERS (HUP DOH LUEN MUNG), the remake of John Woo (Ng Yu Sum)'s film ONCE A THIEF. Stephen Fung Tak Lun is the director. Even the production team did not find out about the new couple's secret mission until the day before. Producer Terence Chang Ka Chun admitted that they "fooled everyone". "Before hand they showed no trace at all. Everyday we also had the production itinerary but they actually still had time to get married. The team only got a day off yesterday!" Lead actor Andy Lau Tak Wa was surprised about Fung and Shu's flash wedding. "It really was very secret, I didn't realize it even when I was on the set. When I learned about the news today I was very happy for them. It was very romantic, I wish them forever happiness." Reportedly Fung Tak Lun one day during the shoot suddenly said to his girlfriend, "why don't we get married". Shu Qi said, "The wedding gown was a gift from H&M two years ago, I randomly chose the veil at a wedding shop. The art director Silver bought his suit and my pink dress on the street two days before the photo shoot. The photography master Lam Bing Chuen a week before received the order to put aside all of his jobs to fly to Prague for the shoot. We even asked for natural wind only and only brought a reflective board, haha!" * (2016/09/03) Michelle Lo Mik Suet after kissing Louis Koo Tin Lok two years ago in the film GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS) recently in the new film THE SINKING CITY (SAI FONG GIK LOK ji LOI JI TAI HUNG CHONG DIK NEI) played a prostitute. Earlier she tried to lure Pakho Chau and Andrew Lam Man Chung. In the story Lam Man Chung dragged Pakho Chau to visit the prostitute. As soon as Suet Suet saw Pakho Chau she was salivating and dragged him into the house. Pakho Chau was terrified and swore to defend to his death as they began a tug of war. After the cameras stopped rolling, the trio took dirty jokes and made the crew laugh. During the group photo Lam Man Chung even pretended to grab Suet Suet's chest, and she stuck out her tongue in response. * (2016/09/03) The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organizer of the Oscars, yesterday announced that Hong Kong action film superstar Jackie Chan will receive the year's Governors Awards for his brilliant film life and lifetime achievements. Jackie Chan will be the first Chinese to receive this award. Hong Kong Commerce and Economic Development Bureau secretary Gregory So Kam Leung issued a statement to congratulate him. Jackie Chan thanked everyone online for their congratulations, his Stuntman Association's brothers who have risked their lives along with him over the decades and fans around the world! The 62 year old Jackie Chan has been in film for 56 years and made over 150 films. Because of the deep influence of his on screen performance, during the voting on August 30th the lifetime achievement award was approved for Jackie Chan. After 56 years in film, I want to thank the Oscars for giving me such an encouragement while I can still fight. I want to share this honor with the Jackie Chan Stuntman Association's brothers who have risked their lives along with me for decades, all of the excellent and professional film co-stars, and all the alliance partners who have supported me! Thank you, and thank you to fans around the world. I will keep working hard on making good movies for everyone!" He also mentioned the difficulties of making an action film, injuries and blood were commonplace. He was no exception as he was covered in injuries and illness. Thus he had to share the honor with the Jackie Chan Stuntman Association and action filmmakers around the world. Big Brother even joked that he had a "little goal" as he hoped that this Oscars would not be his last. "The Oscars probably have no rule against winning other awards after the lifetime achievement award!" * (2016/09/03) The film LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH) made over 580 million RMB in the Mainland, with Hong Kong and Asia total box office the film broke HK$ 700 million. Actors Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Francis Ng Chun Yu and Charmaine Sheh Si Man attended the celebration banquet. The film company boss Peter Lam Kin Ngok, TVB chief Chan Kwok Keung and producer Wong Jing attended in support. Ka Fai admitted that he would like a sequel. He joked that no matter what happened to his character, he could come back as long as everyone wanted him to. Koo Tin Lok and Cheung Ka Fai were pleased with the film making over 700 million, but Ka Fai's highest personal records still belonged to FORM VEGAS TO MACAU 2 and 3 and their respectively 950 million and 1.1 billion yuan RMB. Goo Jai said that he had no personal box office record. Would they get raises for the good performance? Ka Fai said, "The question of salary is never determined by you alone. I can ask for 1 billion but that would be impossible. In the business world it's a business. How much you are worth is how much people are willing to give you, so it's not up to me to say how much." Goo Jai left the raise question to his manager. As for Mainland authorities beginning to set limits to the top Mainland stars' excessively high film salaries, Goo Jai said that all salary related matter would be left for his manager. He would not talk about anyone but himself. Ka Fai felt that no comparison should be made with others. If investors felt the price was reasonable, that would be how the business world worked. When will they work together again? Ka Fai joked, "Make LINE WALKER 2, we can continue our romance!" Goo Jai said that they could make a prequel. Ka Fai said, "Who says there is no resurrection in the film world? As long as everyone wants, characters can come back to life as many times as the character. In addition this film doesn't require watching the television series first. It's very independent. The second film can even be an all new underworld world." Ng Chun Yu joked about the film breaking 700 million, "Of course I am not excited, it should be to 800 million to 1 billion. It's just 700 million, I hope it would keep rising!" Sheh Si Man said, "I am very happy, it's the first time my movie makes over 700 million!" Would she like the box office to go a little higher? She said, "It's so greedy! Of course I Hope to be a little higher like Chun Yu said!" She also revealed that the sequel script was already in the works. Chun Yu hoped to be able to make three films at all. Was 800 million to 1 billion box office was easy to reach now? Chun Yu said, "It's still very hard, I am just saying!" Would he take advantage of the film's performance and ask for a raise? Ah Sheh said, "I hope to get more screen time, which would be even better!" Chun Yu answered, "I won't, it's going to stay the same. When the contract reaches several years from now, I won't be able to get a raise even if I want to!" Chun Yu looked at Ah Sheh and joked, "Why don't you reward yourself with a little more figure, you would naturally get a raise!" Ah Sheh awkwardly said, "I don't need to, I hope to add more scenes with you in the sequel." Chun Yu said, "We have even scenes and don't need more. Earlier every scene was very tough to make." * (2016/09/03) Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai is working on his new film PARIS RAIDER (AU JAU GUNG LEUK) in Italy. One scene required a stunt double, the appearance of whom shocked everyone because from appearance, hairstyle to physique, he seemed to have come from the same mold as Wai Jai. The resemblance was shocking. Yesterday someone posted a photo in which both Wai Jai and the double wore a white shirt and a pair of black pants. They stood together and conversed and looked exactly alike. No one could tell who was who. Someone joked, "Carina Lau Ka Ling has to identify her real husband Leung Chiu Wai in person to bring him home". * (2016/09/03) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Tom @ Mr and his wife Leanne Ho brought their children to attend last night's charity premiere of the animated film MCDULL RISE OF THE RICE COOKER. Jackie Chan said that he and Piggy constantly chatted on the set and became good friends. Piggy also acted up when Nana was posing for photos. Earlier Eddie Peng Yu-Yan was rumored to have upset Jackie Chan and was replaced. Jackie Chan denied. "Eddie and I are very close. When he and Big Brother (Sammo Hung Kam Bo) made movies, I was with him on many scenes. All I heard were he was very fast and hard working, a young man with professionalism. I look forward to working with him." Piggy played jealous and asked Jackie Chan, "Will he or I star in the next film?" Jackie Chan said, "Of course Eddie!" Piggy then asked, "If Eddie and I fell into the sea, would you save me or him?" Jackie Chan helplessly said, "That's very hard! Why when I just finished would you start this topic after I just explained?" Director Leo Zhang Lijia was asked about casting. "I decided this film's actors. Piggy had more "joyous' scenes. The other artists were too handsome! I chose Ouyang Nana because choices of actors under age 20 are few." As the director seemed to be on a downward spiral, Piggy joked, "Actually you chose me because I wasn't handsome enough! You chose Nana because you had no choice!" Host Matilda Tao Ching Ying said, "Piggy is handsome and funny, Nana is in full development, chosen from tens of thousands!" Jackie Chan was scared out of his wits and caught completely off guard. Later he also could not the Taipei Film Commission representative's job title and suddenly got on his knees to beg for everyone's forgiveness. Jackie Chan said that the film will shoot in Taiwan for 45 days. His wife Joan Lin and son Jaycee Chan will probably visit. Two days ago Cho Ming sent 20 bowls of cold noodles and pork balls to the team. * (2016/09/02) Mainland Best Actor Zhang Hanyu and Taiwan hunk Eddie Peng Yu-Yan starred in the Dante Lam Chiu Yin directed crime action film OPERATION MEKONG, which will open in October. This time the team went on location to Malaysia and Thailand. Lam Chiu Yin said that it was like a military march because they fought morning to night, they shot everywhere they went and even needed to set up camp. He could only describe the process as tough. Zhang Hanyu said that due to the hot and humid climate of Southeast Asia, the hills were filled with various poison bugs. Everyday someone got hurt on the set. "The most memorable was a big and deep natural cavern in Malaysia. The water in the cavern was waist deep!" In one scene the drug enforcement team captain he played in order to rescue a key witness snuck into the criminal's headquarter, went on a crane with a Thai actor and ran all over a cock fighting pit in the chase. He even had to jump across the roof ten stories above. Zhang Hanyu might not have started as an action actor, but he personally performed his stunts until the director got his take. * (2016/09/02) Louisa Mak Ming Sze, Ruco Chan Chin Pang, Fred Cheng Chun Won, Stephanie Ho Ngan Sze and Hong Kong Olympic team representatives yesterday taped a program. Louisa after returning to Hong Kong immediately went to work on her new film SUT LUEN YUT (BREAK UP DAY) with rumored boyfriend Dominic Ho Ho Man again, which was director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s idea. Louisa said, "Because we have worked together before, the director found a familiar co-star for me so I would perform a little more naturally." Although she said that she did not have any intimate scene yet, she wanted to be a professional and would not mind any. Louisa also said that she did not discuss the details of her job with her boyfriend and admitted that after returning to Hong Kong she has been so busy that she did not even have time to see her family. * (2016/09/02) Shawn Yue Man Lok, Elva Ni, Mark Lui Chung Tak and his wife, Endy Chow Kwok Yin and swimmer Stephanie Au Hoi-Sun two nights ago attended a watch party. Lok Jai was rumored to have turned down Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin's film due to a low salary offer. Lok Jai responded. "That's not it, I don't care about the money. I have worked on a movie before without taking a cent. When I make a movie money doesn't come first." He said that he turned the film down because of the script. When he worked with a company they would have an understanding to see if the job was suitable and would have any new attempt. In addition he would make two movies at most, he would invest more time to make it the best. Thus he could only be picky. Actually he had no idea what happened in the end. Lok Jai admitted that both sides had contact, but because he had too many script offers the company would choose first. Thus he has not seen every script. Did he and Ah Sa have any contact? Lok Jai remembered that Ah Sa called him and said that she had something to ask him, but Ah Sa did not go into any detail. Would he call Ah Sa to explain that he did not turn the film down due to low salary? Lok Jai said, "No need to explain. Money can be made back in many places, I still have to see whether it's suitable for me. Even if you give me a lot of money for a role that I can't play, or for me to play a teenagers I wouldn't be able to!" Reportedly the character went to his rival Pakho Chau. Lok Jai smiled and said, "Whatever, how else would it make the news? I wish for the production to be a smooth one. Films constantly change their casts and make changes in the last minute. There is no good or bad, maybe they would help with the sparks!" * (2016/09/01) North Point's State Theatre faces demolition. Earlier David Siu Chung Hung and Kenneth Tsang Kong made videos to call for its preservation. Director Fruit Chan Gor, CITY ON FIRE (LUNG FU FUNG WON) screen writer Sun Sai Shing will do so as well. Chan Gor said, "This type of landmark is dwindling in Hong Kong. State Theatre's dome is very unique. My film THE LONGEST SUMMER (HUI NIN YIN FA DUT BIT DOR) was shot there in hopes of documenting and saving its visuals." He said that in the film Sam Lee Chan Sam and his gang hid the money in the condenser on the State Theatre roof then began negotiation. * (2016/09/01) Miss Hong Kong Louisa Mak Ming Sze two nights ago worked on Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s new film SUT LUEN YUT with Dominic Ho Ho Man near Central's Man Mo Temple. Working together again after a television series, Louisa had plenty of expressions in her performance and had to deliver her lines while walking with Ho Ho Man. However because the director wanted to try a variety of gestures, they kept shooting repeatedly. Louisa pouted and started over again, finally after 12 takes the shoot was finally finished. Louisa said that she gained a lot from her first film. As for the frequent bad takes, she said, "The director asked for many shots, I feel I still have a lot of room for improvement. (Did Ho Ho Man try to cheer you up?) He didn't just talk with me, he constantly tried to get other people to chat." Earlier they worked on the film with Nina Paw Hee Ching, Shek Sau and Snow Suen Wai Suet and posted photos online. Playing Paw Hee Ching's daughter, Suen Wai Suet praised her elder's great acting. * (2016/09/01) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's mother Shally Davies two nights ago attended her film's premiere. Her children Peggy Davies (Dai Bik Chi), Ronnie Cheung Ho Lung, his wife and Parkman Cheung showed their support. When asked why Cheung Pak Chi did not appear, Pak Chi's mother said, "She has been busier later, I asked her to buy a ticket later." She said that when she first took the role she did not tell her children right away, because she wanted to surprise them. She hoped to have a chance to work with her children on a movie in the future. * (2016/09/01) Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Jessica C., Rosemary, Paisley Wu Pui Wai, Ankie Beilke and many "second generation stars" like Eddie Kwan Lai Kit's daughter Fabienne Kwan Fung Hing, Kent Tong Chun Yip's daughter Isabella Tong Oi Ka, Wilson Lam Chun Yin's daughter' Denice Lam Yuk Fui, and Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui's daughter Zaneta Cheng Yiu attended a lipstick product line event last night. Fiona revealed that she just finished her film GIRLS 2 and would jump into her new record after returning to Hong Kong. Fiona revealed that she worked on the film in Vietnam for several months and spent several thousands to keep from getting a tan. Her biggest gain was becoming good friends with her co-stars Janine Chang and Ivy Chen. They often wore couple hats, couple cups and had couple breakfast. However, Fiona stressed that she still liked girls and absolutely would not check her orientation. * (2016/09/01) Opening next Thursday in Hong Kong, the new film HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) had a fiery love scene that exceeded censorship limits. Newlywed Celia Kwok Wing Yi in the film had a daring bed scene with her on screen boyfriend Carlos Chan Ka Lok, as her final release before her wedding. The Chan Ka Lok played "youth on the edge" had to live in a subdivided room in the film. Although he was very poor he still had Celia K. as his girlfriend. She even "delivered" to the tiny room to "battle" Chan Ka Lok. Actually director Andy Lo (Law Yiu Fai) has seen Chan Ka Lok in the AIDS prevention film FOR LOVE, WE CAN (OI, BUT LAN), in which he had a series of make up and bed scenes with another actor Neo Yau Hawk-Sau. Director Law felt that Chan Ka Lok was very daring and had no bottom line. At the same time HAPPINESS had a bed scene, so he asked him to give it a try. Chan Ka Lok joked, "After FOR LOVE, WE CAN, I really got an offer from a man!" That fiery scene took place in an old Sham Shui Po building. Celia K. lay topless on top of Chan Ka Lok and got intimate for two full minutes. Although she was married, Celia K. did not feel that her husband would mind. "Marriage doesn't affect my on screen work. It's a part of life. Even when I will have a child in the future, I feel playing a wife or a mother role may be even more 'appropriate'." Unfortunately the audience would not be able to see this scene because the film received a category IIB rating. Due to censorship limits Law Yiu Fai could only remove this bed scene. He hoped to be able to include it in the video release. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 1 2016, ASIAN FILMS SHIN GODZILLA RETURNS TO THE ORIGIN Japanese film company Toho has always neglected their film masters historically, whether they were Akira Kurosawa or Mikio Naruse it would not actively promote them overseas. It would not strongly promote 50s masters Yasujiro Ozu and Keisuke Kinoshita with occasional large scale exhibits like Shochiku would, which might very likely be related to Toho having a film "character" that was well known. Big monster Godzilla appeared in 1954, after resurrection form death it kept "appearing" in Japan and even twice became Hollywood film leads. The film company even used its image as a hotel logo. No one would disagree that Godzilla was the most successful and the most famous monster that Japanese filmmakers have created. The Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi directed SHIN GODZILLA brought Godzilla back to its origins and started anew, a return to its roots after the end of various interpretations of the King of Monsters. - HUNG KWONG The return to its root referred to Godzilla's first appearance in SHIN GODZILLA. Since the 1954 GODZILLA, all the sequels had the same hypothesis: Godzilla exists in this world and it gradually closes to mankind as if it becomes the guardian of mankind. In other words it became the forefather to Tokusatsu television characters Ultra Man and Daitetsujin 17. SHIN GODZILLA's story was like the earliest film's. No one knew what ths mysterious monster was, so the story could focus on depicting human response. This became an interesting contrast to the first GODZILLA. Satire Of Bureaucracy SHIN GODZILLA actually was not about how the big monster destroy Tokyo, but how the Japanese government responded to the sudden arrival of the big monster. Thus the film had a lot of scenes in which cabinet ministers and their aides were in meetings, thereby showing how cabinet ministers hinder the prime minister's decisions, how minister aides hinder their superiors, who would need to be responsible for failure in the front line and other details of political power play. In comparison, the early GODZILLA film also had meetings to find the big monster and victims demanding compensation, all the main characters were ordinary people. In the end defeating Godzilla was also the invention of a "mad" scientist, unlike SHIN GODZILLA that stressed the teamwork that political figures coordinated. While the film raised the importance of political figures to unprecedented heights, it also poked up at how the Japanese government officials and military pushed all decisions to political figures. Thus the minister who specifically appointed to respond to the "giant unidentified life form" had to take command in person on the final battlefield because "it required the swift decision of a political figure". On the other hand, they also needed to command justice and respect from various nations around the world, to prevent them from disregarding Japan's survival in the elimination of Godzilla and to sek assistance in future reconstruction......while these political figures were placed in such an esteemed position, paradoxically whether they were young Japanese politicians or the special envoy from the U.S. they were all so-called "second generation senators" from political families. Their decisions were all made in a secret room......as for meeting politics, the two GODZILLA films that were 60 years apart went from an afterthought to a love hate relationship. When the first GODZILLA was made, Japan was armed itself after the war and establish a self defense force. By SHIN GODZILLA, the department that was in charge of the self defense force has already been promoted from "agency" to "ministry". SHIN GODZILLA put a lot of effort into depicting the self defense force operation process, like attacking Godzilla in the name of "dispersing harmful creatures" (which reportedly was the influence of the film GODZILLA on the real world). The most blatant was that they were under politicians' control (a contrast from the old military that was under no one's control and acted on its own before the war). Hardwar wise, both films displayed the latest weapons of the self defense force at the time. In the 1954 GODZILLA were M24 tanks and F86 fighters, in SHIN GODZILLA were Type 10 tanks and F2 fighters. Other current equipment like military helicopters, self propelled artillery and rocket launchers all appeared. The Hong Kong version subtitle had an incorrect translation. Because the Japanese "weaponized" military terms for artillery, the Hong Kong translation became "special forces". Actually the film was only talking about artillery. Fukushima nuclear disaster Simile SHIN GODZILLA's Tokyo invasion route basically was the same as its forefather 62 years. It landed on Kamakura, through Kawasaki entered Tokyo. Yet after so many years, the past suburbs have already been urbanized. In order to show Godzilla's giant monster presence amid skyscrappers, its height could only drastically be increased. Since it destroyed the city of Tokyo that many tourists frequented, today's audience would relate more to this one than the original film. The audience might be the most able to relate to the aerial spraying vehicles that spray coolant into Godzilla's mouth. The vehicles happened to be the ones that appeared at the Fukishima nuclear disaster site. This design could be said as the summation of Godzilla as a nuclear disaster simile (Godzilla in SHIN GODZILLA was born evolved after absorbing nuclear waste material, different from the original when it was awaken from nuclear explosion). All of the government response in the film was in parallel to the Japanese government's response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. All of this film's main characters were elected officials or public servants, again stressing the complete lack of civilian voices and points of view. Although the 1954 GODZILLA was deeply influential, it was not a box office king when it was released. Back then the box office numbers of films like WHAT IS YOUR NAME? PART 3, SEVEN SAMURAI and TWENTY FOUR EYES all crushed it. The then gauche special effect science fiction film now has become the only king at the box office, which probably is the greatest change in the film world over 60 years. 2. TA KUNG PAO, SEPTEMBER 1 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF "ASTRONOMICAL" SALARY The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television released a report of industry improvement, one of the topics was its determination to curb "astronomical" salaries and stars showing off their wealth. This is worthy of attention and discussion. Before the rise of Chinese film, the place where Chinese film thrived the most was Hong Kong. Hong Kong actor salary from the 80s to the 90s was not higher. Even earlier during the Shaw era, stars were mostly monthly salary employees or high salary "working class". In the past, the star market value was not transparent. Bosses could profit from the difference between star salary and market value, which was a little unfair to stars. Yet later Stephen Chow Sing Chi rose to fame, the market was more transparent and star value was more reasonable. No one expected after the Chinese film industry took off, star salary would gradually had toward the other extreme. It not only forced the investors to lower profit and raise risk but also created a very unhealthy ecology and hinder industry development. Supposedly the television series RUYI'S ROYAL LOVE IN THE PALACE already paid its leads over 160 million yuan RMB in salary, obviously production cost must have been suppressed. In Mainland television production, star salary edged closer to 70% of the budget. In the U.S. and Korea it was to 10 to 30%, showing that our productions valued actor popularity more than production quality. The trend was alarming. Thus, the SARFT felt that it needed to "focus on film and television production ideological value and aesthetic direction, to optimize film and television production cost structure". The behavior of blindly speculating stars, fans, "internet popularity" and using big name stars as value exchange standards directly impacted film and television production quality. Many film and television creators agreed with the SARFT's call, because without curbing the climate of "astronomical salary" industry quality could not be raised. Some stars responded to the SARFT new policy and felt that the star salary was market adjusted. Both parties were willing to pay the high salary. While this seemed to make sense, it actually had very problematic. In the 90s when Hong Kong film declined, often actors were willing to take less salary for the director to be able to record sound live. The goal was for film quality. Now, sometimes when you want actors to take single digit percentage from their salary to improve production quality, they mostly would be unwilling. Actors would rather sacrifice quality than give up a little income. In the long run, viewers would cast aside poor quality productions. Please remember that American film production quality is still far ahead of ours. If we do not reverse this unreasonable quality trend, not only would film and television productions be unable to "get out there", they would not be able to compete with American film in the Mainland market either. - TIN LIK === . In the 1980s, two childhood friends join the Shatin Martins, a Band 3 school baseball team managed by the school principal (Liu Kai-chi). From these humble beginnings, the boys experience camaraderie, fall in love and make fateful decisions that resonate throughout their lives amid a changing Hong Kong and its sporting world. [ BROADWAY CIRCUIT ] In the year of 1984, the Sino-British Joint Declaration was signed, and the future of Hong Kong became unclear. In the stream of history, this story of a baseball team beneath the Lion Rock had gradually been forgotten. In that year, "Shatin Martins", the first Hong Kong youth baseball team, was formed. The 10 young players were living an uneasy and restless life as Hong Kong was being humiliated by one defeat after another and the fate of the “Shatin Martins” and their strong rival, the Japanese Buffaloes, hanged in the balance. However, the hardship only brought out their bravery to surmount themselves and overcome the struggles. Living in the golden age, these players ignited their glory with every game as they grew together with their city. Eventually, it all comes down to the final game facing their greatest rival yet...
