MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/08/17) Best Actor Francis Ng Chun Yu is the actor, director and writer on a dark comedy mob film. Two nights ago the film set up a road block to shoot a car explosion scene. Over 100 people looked on in the rain. Chun Yu who was not in the shoot directed in person, with a rag on his head he took a selfie and talked on the photo during his break. he revealed that later other bloody scenes like slashing and belly cutting will be shot. 300 people will even appear in Causeway Bay for the major scene! He said, "In the scene I saved a child. It cost a lot of money, altogether almost the price of a Tuen Mun home. (Earlier someone called you 'Ugly Kwan'?) Really? I didn't hear it, but I haven't been to Mongkok in a long time. Normally I go to Temple Street more." Earlier his son Feynman was on the set. Chun Yu said that he has not decided whether to let his perform. "I don't think he is fat enough, let me shoot the other scenes first. Feynman looks better fatter and would be more mature. (Does he really want to?) He has a desire to perform, he likes to make people laugh. Yet as soon as you tell him to take his mark and deliver his lines he gets bashful. (Would you change the script so he would less lines to say?) The script is already done, it won't be changed." He even revealed that he invited his friend Dayo Wong Tze Wah to perform, but he was unable to due to his play's additional shows. He joked that now without a god the overseas sale would be less as well. * (2016/08/17) Principal Alan Tam Wing Lun and Sam Soh Jaime Chik Mei Chun starred in the film FOOLING AROUND JIANG HU, which will open in Hong Kong on September 1st. Actually since working together in 1983 they have not worked together. Sam Soh joked that she finally had her chance at revenge and avenge her lack of a kiss. In the new film she and Principal kissed. In the film they played two long lost lovers. Alan said that they lost touch while running away from enemies. Years ago they ran into each other at the hospital. "I even had to take advantage of her and check her wound." Sam Soh explained that at the time while Alan was carrying her during their escape, she took three chops to her rear. Thus Alan had to check her scars to verify her identity. Yet she joked, "I was obviously trying to save me but he instead blocked the chops with me." Sam Soh said that Alan was busy so trying to work with him was hard. Alan said that they only worked together on music videos before. This was the first film that they worked together on. He complained, "After all the music videos, we didn't have one single kiss scene. I don't know if Sam Gor bought off the directors to keep me from kissing Sam Soh." Sam Soh responded, "That's right, everyone who made a music video with Alan got to kiss him except me. This time I finally get the chance to avenge my lack of kiss. In the film I kissed Alan until his lips fell off." Alan said that their collaboration was very pleasant. He praised Sam Soh for performing well and bringing him more into his character. Sam Soh said that she did not know whether that was the way with film, but when she was new and just started on television, elders taught her that. She only followed their lead. Did Sam Soh's daughter want to get into the business? She said that she would not answer for her. "It's her world." Her daughter was interested in photography and film, instead her son liked computer and economics. Sam Soh also said that she asked her son to download POKEMON GO in Canada before returning to Hong Kong. Sam Gor yelled at her for encouraging their son to play. * (2016/08/17) The film WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO) two nights ago held its premiere. Actor Liu Kai Chi and guests Irene Wan Bik Ha, Andrew Lam Man Chung, Ann Hui On Wa, Wong Hei, Shine came to show their support. Irene at the end of last month celebrates her 50th birthday in Bali then immediately worked on a commercial in Beijing, but she got sick for two days. Her fans also gave her a surprise belated birthday party, for which she was touched. She also felt that time flew. She would properly cherish everything around her, including her friends and her work. Lam Man Chung was concerned about her friend Susan Shaw Yam Yam's hospitalization due to heart disease. Ah Chung joked that Sister Yam Yam only went to see a gynecologist and was fine. When she called Sister Yam Yam no one answered. Later he found her daughter, who said that she just went to the bathroom. As far as Ah Chung knew Sister Yam Yam went to work in Shaoguan, she started a live broadcast and had a lot of hunks in her company. She might have been too excited and was already "scorching". With the heat she suffered a minor heat stroke. Her daughter then sent her straight to the hospital. She should be released in the next few days, as her blood pressure was a little low. However Sister Yam Yam reportedly had a spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Ah Chung joked, "Her pantyhose might have ripped. Maybe sh was too high. After her hospital release I will give her a cupping therapy." * (2016/08/16) Earlier Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Sean Lau Ching Wan spoke with Cable Entertainment News about their film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR). Because both were "men of few words", they have been called the "quietest team in history". Ting Fung and Ching Wan both a agreed. Ting Fung said, "Sometimes it's really odd between people!" Ching wan added, "That's right, we communicate so little but actually we are OK!" Would Ching Wan try to out chok Ting Fung? Ching Wan joked, "After I am done choking my bones would be falling off!" * (2016/08/16) Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Eva Chan Sze Wai yesterday worked on their new film SINKING CITY (SAI FONG GIK LOK: LOI JI TAI HUNG CHONG DIK NEI) at a hourly hotel. Ah Chung and Yun Yi who played a couple said that it was their first time at a hourly hotel. Speaking of playing a couple with Yun Yi, Ah Chung said, "It's pretty innovative! This film is about how young people face the land problem, without any place to reproduce. It's appropriate yet crazy, like a cult film! (Did you have this problem when you were younger?) I was thinner, I didn't need a lot of space! I feel it's pretty cozy here, like a karaoke room. Normally even when I pass by downstairs, I would pick up my pace so people would get pictures and write stuff. However there is a parking lot nearby. It's known for being narrow and hard to park in. Once after I parked the car I was all sweaty and scratched my car door." Ah Chung's wife Kay Tse On Kay after announcing her sabbatical has been repeatedly rumored to have good news. Did he have any good news to announce? Ah Chung said, "I do! I am working, which is the good news! Thank you all of Hong Kong for cheering us on, I will leave it up to fate! When I have good news I would announce it." Yun Yi said that she would perform her intimate scene well. "In this film we keep trying to get intimate but can't find a hotel, which makes our blood boil! (Since you are so close to Tse On Kay, do you dare to get so intimate with Ah Chung?) I dare very much! An actor has to be convincing, I have to let go of myself first!" Eva appeared in a busty push up look. She said, "I am not used to it at all! My co-workers say I made them bleed everywhere! (How many pads are you using?) It's only half a size larger! I actually am pretty stacked, I just normally keep it hidden! In the film I have different costumes that I would describe as 'busty'. I can't talk about them in detail yet. They would be very surprising. (Ah Chung has foul language in his lines, do you have any pressure?) Actually I am already nervous from working on my first film. Joyce and Ah Chung are good actors so I would have pressure. However they are very willing to help me." * (2016/08/16) Louis Koo Tin Lok and Sean Lau Ching Wan have worked together more times than "you can count on both hands". Recently they again worked together on the Universe new film CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING). Director Benny Chan Muk Sing gave them "fresh starts", with Ching Wan as the defense team leader and Goo Jai as the rich kid who enjoyed killing. Ching Wan stated that he was no match for Goo Jai's eyes. "He was pretty convincing as the maniac who wasn't afraid of death, had no fear, and killing was nothing to him. The defense team that I led really had no way to deal with me. Everyone could only expect to make the greatest sacrifice!" As for Chan Muk Sing's deliberate arrangement, Goo Jai admitted, "As an actor I really have to try anything. This time the director was more afraid than me. Before and after casting he repeatedly asked me if I was afraid of hurting my image. He seemed to be brainwashing himself." In order to get into character, Goo Jai said that he had to get into the director's inner world. "I had to understand what the director was thinking because he kept making changes, he had new ideas on the spot." Goo Jai dunked Ching Wan upside down into a wine barrel in the film. Goo jai said, "With any mishap we had to start over again. I had a lot of pressure." Ching Wan comforted him. "It was only a few times, it was reasonable." He also said that this time was a memorable experience. "Actually when you are upside down the water goes into the nostrils first. So I put cotton balls in my nostrils and ears. During the shoot I held my breath, which was very hard to do upside down. (Were you very scared?) No, if anything happened they would drag me back up! (Did you really trust the team?) Yes." Ching Wan worked on what was probably his first serious fight scene in his career. He said that during the shoot he only had minor injuries. "The leather whip I held was elastic, if I didn't use the right amount of force it would bounce back and hit myself. It wasn't as dangerous as a modern action film, with explosions and car chases at every turn." Speaking of the strong summer competition, they had little box office pressure. Goo Jai described that each film had its own "destiny". Ching Wan admitted, "Of course I want it to perform well, but actors can only do their best." * (2016/08/16) Taiwan actors Ko Chen-Tung, Patty Wu and director Midi Z (Chao Te-Yin) yesterday worked on the Golden Horse 35 advertising. This ad campaign returned to the location of director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's film DUST IN THE WIND. Ko Chen-Tung and Patty Wu also put on the uniforms that the film leads were. * (2016/08/16) THE MONKEY KING 3 (SAI YAU GEI: NUI YI GOK) yesterday held a press conference. Leads Feng Shaofeng and Xiao Shenyang at the press conference set off sparks galore. Feng Shaofeng even looked at Xiao Shenyang attentively as he lifted up his chin. Xiao Shenyang said, "Although I Piggy am the most handsome, but the Venerable Tang Monk is still the master at getting girls!" Feng Shaofeng even joked, "I will perform the romantic scenes with Piggy well." The host interjected and told Feng Shaofeng "pay attention to the difference between man and beast", much to the joy of the audience. When asked "where was the eldest disciple Sun Wukong", Feng Shaofeng wisely recited the head band tightening curse to call Sun Wukong. Speaking of the Kingdom of Women in their hearts, Feng Shaofeng joked, "Only a girl with the figure of Wukong, and the looks of Piggy can have a relationship with me." * (2016/08/16) Alan Tam Wing Lun and Christine Ng Wing Mei yesterday promoted their September 1st film release FOOLING AROUND JIANG HU (GONG WU BEI KET). Lady Ng in the film in order to help her husband Jordan Chan Siu Chun take over Principal's mob boss position seduced Principal. Principal also praised Lady Ng. "She went all the way at the push of a button!" Was Principal tempted? Principal chuckled and said, "I really was!" Lady Ng said, "Although I am no spring chicken, I still have something left in tank!" Principal said, "Is my tolerance so low? Lady Ng's wild and crazy had to be experienced in person and not so far away!" Would he feel like he was a Mr. Hong Kong in front of Lady Ng? Principal said that Lady Ng would transform in front of Mr. Hong Kong. Lady Ng clarified, "The people misunderstood, it was a visual effect!" Principal also said that Lady Ng actually was very quiet. Lady Ng also returned the favorite and said that it was because Principal was handsome enough. Speaking of Principal's birthday on August 23rd, Lady Ng gave him a pretend kiss as a present. Principal revealed that on the 20th he will perform a concert in Macau. He asked fans to go and celebrate his birthday with him. He would have dinner with his family on his birthday, at most he would play soccer with the soccer team. * (2016/08/15) The Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Sean Lau Ching Wan starred new film HEARTFALL ARISES (GAING SUM POR) two nights ago held its premiere. Some said that Ting Fung went to Phuket to celebrate with her, which two nights ago he smiled and denied. Ting Fung worked with Ching Wan for the second time. Ching Wan praised Ting Fung as more mature than before. "This time the production went smoothly, usually we finished with just one take. I have questioned my own acting, when I got home I thought about it for most of the night." Ting Fung said, "I asked for another take because I wasn't as certain as the director. Although I played a cop, it was different from previous police characters. I had more dramatic scenes." Ching Wan said that after the new film he had to rest a little and take a break from action film. Would he make another comedy? He said, "Making a comedy is even scarier, the definition of funny depends on personal experience. If the audience doesn't laugh the cinema would be without laughter, I would be very scared. There is a thin line between funny or not." Ting Fung also agreed that comedy was hard to make and no one has ever asked him to work on a comedy. He said, "Being funny is very hard, even harder than jumping from the 40th floor. You have to lead the audience's emotions, from silence to cracking up is really very hard. I really can't." Both Best Actors have become interested in cooking in recent years. Did they exchange cooking tips? Ching Wan said, "I don't know how to cook, I only like to shop at the market, to get an understanding of market trends, to know how th world is now." Speaking of Faye Wong's birthday last week, did Ting Fung cook for her? He said, "I don't know telling." * (2016/08/15) Former Golden Horse Award Best New Director winner Anthony Chen worked on the advertising for the 53rd Golden Horse Award. He invited actor Chang Chen to return to the location of A BRIGHTER SUMMER DAY for a reunion with "Xiao Si'r" from 25 years ago. * (2016/08/14) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's mother Shally Davis starred in her first film CASE II and said that after making the film she became interested in film. "Since my daughter did it, why can I? This time I experienced the hardship of film production, but afterward I felt a sense of success." She said that her daughter supported her in her film endeavor but because she was busy with her children she was absent from the premiere. She also said that she often saw her grandsons. Speaking of Pak Chi's frequent new flame rumors recently, she said that she too wanted to find a companion. "As long as she is happy that's fine, she didn't tell me anything. (Would you like to find a new companion too?) I do!" * (2016/08/14) The film HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) two nights ago held its star advanced screenings. Actors Kara Wai Ying Hung, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Chin Siu Ho and Susan Shaw Yam Yam attended. Lydia Tong Bui Sze, Adrian Wong Chi Ching, Sherman Chung Shu Man, Sukie Chung Shu Kei and Loretta Chow Mei Yan showed their support as well. Sister Siu Hung and Ka Lok would have to promote the film in ten Mainland cities. Ka Lok two nights ago did not appear with his girlfriend but would invite her and his family to attend the official premiere. However he was a little afraid, since his acting was praised this time he felt a little pressure. Sister Siu Hung said to Ka Lok, "You are shameless! You should say, 'Thank you, I will keep working hard! Actually I am already better than before, but I still have room for improvement.'" Ka Lok said respectfully, "Without Sister Hung I wouldn't be here, without Sister Hung the director might not have chosen me." Siu Hung said, "That's more like it! If you didn't perform well, the director wouldn't have chosen you anyway." Did Sister Siu Hung gave advice to Ka Lok? Ka Lok thanked Sister Siu Hung right now for giving him advice everyday and sharing a lot of life experience. He learned that she had a lot of interest. When they went to the U.S. for an event she even taught him photography. Sister Siu Hung answered, "After several decades in front of the camera, even an idiot would learn!" How would Sister Siu Hung celebrate her 40th anniversary? She said that she would probably have dinner with her family or host a poolside barbecue. Would she write a book to share her experience? Sister Siu Hung revealed that originally she planned to. She even wrote 1/10 of it. Yet too many characters were involved in the content, she did not know whether her family would like to be mentioned so she scrapped it. However she already thought of a title MY 50 YEARS. Perhaps she would focus on writing the book again at age 60. * (2016/08/13) Best Actor Francis Ng Chun Yu yesterday worked on his new film in Wong Tai Sin. Chun Yu wrote, directed and starred in the film. Yesterday he appeared in his classic character Ugly Kwan look. Due to the heat, he took off his jacket to cool down. Under the blazing sun, he as usual remained professional as he often instructed new actors on the set. His 7 year old son Feynman yesterday visited the set and ran around like he was at the playground. Later Feynman put on headphones to play the sound engineer. When Feynman got bored and pouted later, Chun Yu asked him to rehearse in a scene in which a man in a suit picked him up and ran. Feynman was so happy that he laughed, which made the man in the suit laughed too. Although his son was only rehearsing, when Chun Yu saw that his son lost focused and looked away from the camera he immediately taught him to look at the camera and not to laugh. Finally even Chun Yu joined the running scene. During the break Feynman went to turn on the fan. Chun Yu held his son's hand and put his arm around his shoulder to cheer him up. Also on the set yesterday a 20 year old girl, Chun Yu's new discovery. Chun Yu thought the girl was very suitable for one of the characters in the film and knew her parents, so he mustered the courage to invite her to participate. Since she was going to study overseas, she was willing to perform in a film to give herself a memorable summer. Although it was her first film, she seemed to be already a part of the production. * (2016/08/13) Pakho Chau starred in the film DELUSION (MONG SEUNG JING), which will air on LeTV. He played a mentally ill otaku with severe insomnia. He said that his character was very much like the real him. Aside from anxiety he also had a habit of calling the police. "Before I got into the business I wouldn't sleep until 7AM. I went to see a psychiatrist and was diagnosed with anxiety disorder. I was afraid of taking the elevator and wearing bottleneck shirt. At the time I always felt that I didn't have enough time and became very anxious. When I was hungry I had to eat right away. As soon as something happened I would throw a tantrum. In the end I didn't want to resolve it with sleeping pill. Mama suggested that I went to live overseas for awhile. (Did You have a habit of calling the police?) For justice! When I drove I saw some people walking on the highway, I also found a young person crying on the street When I thought they were in danger I would call the police." * (2016/08/13) Korean group Big Bang member Seungri starred in the Charine Chan Ka Ling produced and written new film BONJOUR LES COULEURS DE L'AMOUR, which has been shooting on location in Hong Kong. The team yesterday shot in a Clearwater Bay school. Seungri, Mainland star Bai Bing and Taiwan star Bea Hayden were on the set early for preparation. Singer Jonathan Wong Chee Hynn and Sarika Choy Yuen Shan were also on hand. Although it was humid, hot and early in the morning, Seungri was in good spirits with beauties around him. Around 11AM, Seungri and the cast went to a field for the shoot. Seungri and Bai Bing sat shoulder to shoulder. He often chatted up Bai Bing. Bea Hayden and Sarika Choy also joined in the discussion. Seungri often flashed his brilliant smile with beauties all around him. Around lunch, the team stopped for rice boxes except Seungri, who played soccer with a few foreign children. After that he again showed his friendly side and took photos with each person. * (2016/08/13) The film LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH) two days ago opened in Hong Kong and China and performed well. In Hong Kong it was the box office champion with HK$1,104,260 yesterday. In China, its total box office was already over 60 million RMB. Many said that the television series continuation film that felt the most like a movie. In the film, most of the attention naturally went to the reappearance of the soul character Benz Hui Siu Hung. In the series he played the mysterious mob boss Tam Foon Hei. In the film Brother Foon Hei not only returned but the mysterious relationship between him and Sister Ting would also be unveiled. Many viewers after watching the film said that Brother Foon Hei's appearance and his scene with Sister Ting were both surprising and created another peak for the film story. Even co-stars Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Louis Koo Tin Lok immediately lost luster as their thunder was completely stolen. Benz Hung said, "This time the movie will resolve the unsolved mysteries of the series, like what happened to me, the mystery of my identity. The appearance of Brother Foon Hei was pretty special, Sister Ting was stunned. This time I only guest starred. I only took the script because the director was Man Wai Hung (Jazz Boon). This time before getting the script I already knew it would be good. (Earlier in the series) he was the most involved. He explained the relationship scenes to us. Before the actors cried he already cried." Hui Siu Hung with LINE WALKER won the 2014 TVB Anniversary Award for Most Popular Male Television Character. In recent years he has been working on Mainland series. Benz Hung admitted that the Mainland pay was good and actors were respected. Benz Hung was the gag king in the hearts of many viewers. "Many people ask me if I specialize in comedy, but actually I never choose the script. Whatever script the directors and producers give me I would take. It wasn't intentional. Like Yeung Chin Wa (Miriam)'s LOVE UNCOVER (SUN JAT SI MUI), I never thought that the comedy of how to write sir of 'Fong Chung Sir' would have such a huge reaction. I would have never guessed how far 'go-go-go' would go. Sometimes when you want to make something stand out deliberately and constantly say it, you may not get the result. Instead people would get sick of it." Benz Hung's daughter is growing up. When asked if she was interested in getting into the business, he said that she had little interest in on screen work. * (2016/08/12) The Toronto International Film Festival will take place on September 8th. Universe boss Daneil Lam Siu Ming, Emperor boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing and his wife, Jacqueline Chong Si Ma and Lisa Ch'ng Si Ming. With a whip as his weapon in the film, Ching Wan joked, "Promoting this film has been very strange, every time someone would ask me about my whip and how powerful it is!" Ching Wan, Goo Jai and Peng Yu-Yan all said that they have not yet seen the film. Was returning to action film again after so many years tough on Ching Wan? He said, "No, but in the short run I won't do it again. (Are you waiting until you get older?) Around 70 sounds about right. If I work on fight scenes again I would need time to train, because this time I spent a lot of time to practice with the whip. However it was a lot of fun." Ching Wan said that in May he went to Xishuangbanna for the shoot. The temperature reached 37 to 38 degrees Celsius everyday, in comparison Hong Kong was not considered too hot. The team would also prepare medication to prevent heat stroke for him. After the promotion, he would take time off to rest. Would he be renovating his home? He said, "Even if I don't I still need time off. I personally like to take time off. (How is the renovation going?) Lately with all the storms and rain, it would progress smoother if the weather is better. (Is your wife in charge of the renovation?) We would talk about it." Goo Jai said that because he used a pistol in the film, it was not too tough. His scene in the finale though was tougher. After making a few films in a row, Goo Jai next month would work on a Wilson Yip Wai Shun directed new film. He planned to take a short trip with his family before work would begin. "I haven't gone vacation with my family in 3 or 4 years. If time permits I can consider going longer. However I have to keep in mind the problem of long flight for the two elders, another problem of going to someplace I don't know. When we go to places I know they complain that I always go there. I have a lot to worry about. Originally I wanted to see animal migration, I even asked Ching Wan for all the information. However it had to be booked a year in advance so I can't go." Ching wan was asked if Peng Yu-Yan listened to what he and Koo Tin Lok said. He joked that he was quite an individual. Peng Yu-Yan said that he was very happy to be able to work with actors he liked. * (2016/08/12) The film THE TENANT DOWNSTAIRS earlier was chosen to be the Taipei Film Festival opening film, held advanced screenings and received a lot of positive review. Simon Yam Tat Wa played a deranged landlord in the film. The audience uniformly praised his Best Actor level performance as beyond terrifying, an experienced film critic event said that this time the landlord role far surpassed his classic characters like DR. LAMB to become Brother Wa's deranged peak and best film. He absolutely had hope to win Best Actor again! Brother Wa felt comforted after receiving the good reviw. "I spent a lot of time and effort to prepare and perform this character. During the shoot everyday whether I had a scene or not I would stay on the set for 15 hours or more to guarantee that my performance pace and power would be in step with the other actors. In addition, I am also very happy that the director took my advice on several scenes in the film. The result was great and I was very pleased." * (2016/08/11) The Mainland suddenly issued a quota on Korea, which caught many entertainment companies off guard. Sun Entertainment originally would start production on the SPL (SAT POR LONG) prequel TAM LONG (GREEDY WOLF) in Korea this month. The director would be Wilson Yip Wai Shun and the stars would be Louis Koo Tin Lok and Max Zhang Jin with a few Korean stars. The budget would be already 150 million RMB. Yet due to the Korean restriction, the film company has already cancelled its Seoul shoot and all of the Korean actors have been scrapped. Reportedly the film will shoot in Thailand instead. Producer Paco Wong was asked about the location change. "Yes! Now we have decided to change to shoot in Thailand. Originally we had a few non top tier Korean actors, now casting changes would be made. Due to the enormity of the change and all new location scouting, we really need time to prepare. Hopefully at the latest we can start production at the end of next month or mid October!" The story reportedly would be about the Goo Jai played mob boss was taken away after his prison release. Because Goo Jai's blood was very unique and could be sold for a lot of money, Zhang Jin wanted to sell it to a rich Thai businessman for an organ transplant. Yet on the way they had an accident and became stranded in Thailand. Then they began a cat and mouse game on the highways of Thailand. * (2016/08/11) Jacky Cai Jie and Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik starred in the comedy film FOOLING AROUND JIANG HU (GONG WU BEI KET) will open in Hong Kong on September 1st. Playing a couple in the film they promoted the film together. They revealed that on the first day of work they already had to work on a fight scene and on the second day a kiss scene. Cai Jei worked on the wires for the first time for the film. "Before the shoot I was a little scared, but it was a lot of fun. However on the day after the shoot my neck was stiff." Babyjohn said that Cai Jie wore a super short dress. He had to drag her along a long flight of stairs to escape. Cai Jie got blisters from all the running and he was a little injured, but it was not as severe as hers. They also revealed that during the shoot they shot many angles, soon a drone was used for the shoot. During the playback they realized how "passionate" their kiss was. Did they kiss all night? They said, "We were together for half a night and kissed for half a night. Each angle only took two or three takes." Did Cai Jie tell her boyfriend about the kiss scene? Cai Jie said at the time she did not meet her boyfriend yet. * (2016/08/11) The film LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH)'s actors Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Benz Hui Siu Hung, and action director Chin Kar Lok yesterday promoted in Guangzhou. When everyone saw all the film promotional items on the streets, they were very excited and hoped that the audience would like the film. Although she was ill, Sheh Si Man said that since she would be able to her Hong Kong home she already felt like she was fully charged. She had enough energy to continue the remaining promotions. She already planned to attend an audience appreciation events on the 16th in Hong Kong, meet with the Hong Kong audience and experience their reaction. Unfortunately she would not have the lead actors in her company. Perhaps during the Hong Kong premiere, the other actress Clara Lee's figure was too outstanding that all the men only paid attention to her and forgot her. Ka Fai said that he would support Ah Sheh. "I feel Hong Kong girls are attractive! I support my own people!" [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, AUGUST 11 2016, ASIAN FILMS LEAGUE OF GODS DISPELS THE MYTHICAL KINGDOM Since computer animation technology became common and no longer exclusive to Hollywood blockbusters, Asian filmmakers have begun to enthusiastically make computer special effect films. On one hand, the Japanese remake their tokusatsu, anime and manga classics one after another; on the other hand, Chinese filmmakers moved the traditional mythical stories to the digital space. After repeatedly making stories of JOURNEY TO THE WEST, people started to question whether Chinese legends were only limited to that? Now someone made LEAGUE OF GODS into a movie, which was considered a new road that finally opened up. - HUNG KWONG LEAGUE OF GODS used INVESTITURE OF THE GODS story framework Chinese Style Adventure Story. In the late Shang dynasty, King Zhou's world ending Black Dragon possessed King Zhou was under the spell of his favorite concubine, the nine tailed foxy demon Daji. They called upon dark powers to bring forth the Black Dragon to the mortal world. In order to stop the tyrant, Jiang Ziya ordered Lei Zhenzi, Nezha and Erlang Shen to team up to find the sword of light that would destroy King Zhou. Daji sent Shen Gongbao after them to get the sword. At the same time, Jiang Ziya due to Daji's curse aged in reverse. The trio must find the sword of light before he turned into an infant, assist father and son Ji Chang and Ji Fa against King Shang and stop the Black Dragon from destroying the world...... Chinese Style Adventure Story The film took the original story that spanned across China between the states of Shang and Zhou and filled the heavens with the gods, and adapted it into a frequently seen in recent years Chinese style story/ character packaged Western adventure film. The sides were either black or white, in a conflict that clear cut friends and enemies. The price of victory was the existence of the mortal world. The entire process was continuous battles. Like a blueprint for a Western adventure novel, LEAGUE OF GODS alos had a personal growth theme. Lei Zhenzi in the entire process of finding the sword of light had to uncover his "winged clan" identity secret (His role was particularly heavy, who knows if it was because the actor was the boss' son?). Even the sword that would save humanity had a very Western name -- sword of light. Thus, the originally ancient "revolution", a story of immortals in battle, turned into a film version of "Dungeons and Dragons". "Dragon" because King Shang was the physical form of the world ending black dragon. "Dungeons" because whether in Zhaoge or in Xiqi castles with high walls stood. Under them were secret tunnels that were connected. They reminded people of the JOURNEY TO THE WEST film series in recent years and the city castles that the characters encountered on their quest for the scriptures. Of course, these ideas all came from the city castles of the elves and dwarves in the LORD OF THE RINGS films. They had little to do with Chinese mythology. The LEAGUE OF GODS director even added a lot of strange gadgets into this fantasy world, an armored chariot that traveled on the desert and the sea, an ark that flew, even city castles......these fantastical visions were closer to the 80s and 90s Hong Kong films but had little to do with those "Dungeons and Dragons" fantasy world. Speaking of which, this film's cast line up was decent with Tony Leung Ka Fai, Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit), Fan Bingbing, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Wen Zhang, Huang Xiaoming and others. However when these big stars played legendary characters like Shang Zhou, Jiang Ziya, Daji, Shen Gongbao and others they had little space to work with. What made the matter worse was that the entire film was almost all continuous chases. It had no time to shape these characters. The purpose of big stars was only connecting their own names with the characters in the film. Hard To Get Into Action Scenes Perhaps, these computer special effect films' selling points still lay with action and fights, a strong suit for HOng Kong filmmakers. Yet in a completely fictional, even more virtual movie that the original INVESTITURE OF THE GODS, even when the fights were more exciting they still could not stimulate the writer's senses. In the end, these immortal fights traditionally used their magic. Now they turned into close combat (with gadgets like the Wind and Fire Wheels), no matter how you looked at them they looked very abstract. No matter how the performers risked their lives and battled with injuries, the setting of the story already made the fights of these films lose the past wuxia action film's sense of persuasion. Fantasy adventure story/game and the films that came from them were completely Western popular culture traditions. Connecting them to the Chinese traditional legend system was an interest search. At least so far, Chinese filmmakers still have been unable to merge the art of Chinese traditional myths, whether in terms of stories or visual elements, with computer special effect seamlessly. Interestingly, this film's producer Wilson Yip Wai Shun or the MONKEY KING (SAI YAU GEI) series director Soi Cheang Po Shui both started by adding a certain type of intriguing human details into genre films. Yip Wai Shun even had a master stroke when he made Ip Man into a wife loving house husband. Yet under the tides of the market, they had to make this type of "Chinese style computer adventure game" films. Who knew how they actually felt inside. 3. TA KUNG PAO, AUGUST 11 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH DEVELOPMENT OF UNDERWRITTEN DISTRIBUTION Since Mainland film box office erupted like a geyser, the cinema circuit distribution competition became more and more ferocious. Over ten years ago a method called underwritten accounting appeared. The advantage of this method is that the film owner has guaranteed return, but the cinema distributor has to bear the risks. Forecasting and sales abilities are tested. After the contract is signed, everyone is left to their own fate. In underwritten accounting, the distribution side predicts a film's box office. For example initially it is only several tens of millions. After the distribution promotional cost and distribution commission (around 10 to 15%), the remaining box office division (around 1/3 of the box office) belongs to the film owner. If other Mainland rights are sold to the distribution side as well, the owner also receives the television and internet revues at the same time. The standard practice now mostly separates television and internet distributions, in other words the distribution side mainly does theatrical distribution. A phenomenon that frequently appeared in the past was since no one had an agreement on the promotional distribution costs, disputes ensued. Yet in the past the film owner had an advantage in that when some distributors would only take commissions when the box office performance was better than expected. All the extra revenue went to the film owner. Of course, this method now has already disappeared, as even clearer agreements have developed. Popular now is underwriting a box office number, like 500 million, then setting a highest promotional distribution cost upper limit. In other words, the contract states very clearly, reflects precisely and even outright lists the amount the film owner will receive. When the film owner is not too optimistic about the film, or not expect the box office to rise in folds, they would make the incorrect analysis. Some after receiving the underwriting simply would neglect the share after the underwriting number has been exceeded, leading to unpleasant disputes and even lawsuits. Similar cases have happened several years ago. Now the underwriting method is already very complete. Aside from setting the highest distribution promotional costs, it even states the shares after the box office underwriting that both sides agree to. Some even clearly lists the share ratio of the box office excess, for example a 70/30 split after 300 million and 60/40 after 400 million. This type of underwritten accounting collaboration format has already become common industry practice. In operation the cinema circuit distributors still have to bear the risks. Yet in order to obtain the distribution rights to a film that they have not invested in at all, they seem to have no other way. The balance between risk and return is important. Most recently the distributor originally wanted to reduce the underwritten box office for a film. The film owner "moved on" and caught the eyes and high price offer of another distributor. In the end the box office was several times lower than the forecast and the distributor suffered severe losses. This type of underwritten distribution method is highly risky on one hand but makes distribution more concerned with promotions and advertising on the other hand, for now it is still a decent choice for film owners. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] MISS SUNSHINE Can : SING NUI KEI YUEN Lit : Saint Girl Wonderful Romance d.
