At the same time the film made 650 million yuan RMB in the Mainland. The film company has already planned to celebrate. It has been in close contact with the directors and actors to witness the moment of Hong Kong film regaining the Hong Kong Chinese film box office championship. Best Actor Kwok Fu Sing despite being busy with his concert rehearsal still took time to promote COLD WAR 2. "With such a great response to COLD WAR 2, the team has been very encouraged. After almost 18 days in release the box office remained great. I really want to thank Hong Kong viewers for their support of this film about Hong Kong. If it truly will be able to break the record, it is the result of the entire team and Hong Kong viewers' effort together. We should share this joy together at that time. Now I am rehearsing for the concerts night and day, I don't know what the film company has planned yet. I personally am looking forward to this record breaking moment very much." * (2016/07/27) Artists Chan Kwok Kwan, Gabriel Harrison (Hoi Chun Kit), Tony Ho Wa Chiu and Hedwig Tam Sin Yin earlier worked on their new film GOO WAT JAI JAI (WISE SONNY, tentative title) in the Yau Ma Tei fruit market. For the mob fight the team used several dozen extras with pipes in their hands. As soon as the director gave the order they roared as metal clangs echoed. Chan Kwok Kwan earlier while working on another film injured his foot and was still recovering. However he tried to perform his own stunts as much as possible, only using a double on some of the scenes. He said, "Originally I had a movie that would start production in September, now it will have to be postponed until October." Speaking of working with the child star in the film, the father of one said, "I am reminded of Chan Chun at home! He is my official model, he looks different everyday so I take pictures of him everyday. (Will you try for another?) Having a girl would be the best!" The extras dragged Tam Yin Sin along the floor that day. She said, "Originally it would have gone on longer, the director didn't want me to get too hot so he shortened the path. I really lacked fight scene experience, I have injured my arms before." Hoi Chun Kit actually has already moved to Beijing. He revealed that he has adapted to the environment there and has already built a social circle. * (2016/07/27) The Pegasus release BOUNTY HUNTER will be released on the 28th. Something else interesting is my kiss scene with Baby, Baby is the Fan Siu Wong played all purpose butler." Lee Min-Ho in the film set off romantic spark with Tang Yan. They not only kissed three times but also Lee Min-Ho would force the antidote into the poisoned Fan Siu Wong with a kiss. For his first Chinese film, Lee Min-Ho gave himself 70 points. He felt that even though he gave his all every time, regret was inevitable. He promised to be even better next time. * (2016/07/27) The August 18 action epic release CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING) two days ago held its Beijing press conference. She is one of the internet's favorite older actors. Would she choose her scripts based on health concerns? Sister Law Lan said, "It would depend on the producers' decisions, but they all respect the elderly very much and respect our wishes. I have three no's, the first is a bad script, the second is when it is too cold or too hot, the third is I am working on a series at TVB. However recently with COOK UP A STORM (FUNG MEI GONG WU ji KUET JIN SIK SUN) I had to go. I haven't seen (Nicholas) Tse Ting Fung in over a decade. In order to see him, I had to make time to go no matter what." In the film Law Lan played a village elder with a great relationship with Tse Ting Fung. Seeing Ting Fung again after so many years, Sister Law Lan thought he was much thinner. "Ting Fung and I didn't have too many dialogues. I thought he was much thinner and much more grown up. He had facial hair. Finally we took a photo happily together." * (2016/07/26) John Woo (Ng Yu Sum)'s latest film MANHUNT (JUI BO) is in production in Osaka. Lead actor Zhang Hanyu almost stayed there the entire time and put a lot of effort into the film. Everyone has been looking forward to his collaboration with Masaharu Fukuyama, but Zhang Hanyu said that due ot the language barrier he has not yet been able to communicate too well with Fukuyama. Instead he had much more exchanges with fellow Chinese actress Stephy Qi Wei. They shot a scene in the Osaka landmark Harukas 300' outdoor garden, but the team often had to keep an eye on the sky. The day before the shoot work was scheduled but due to rain the team was forced to postpone the shoot. On this collaboration with Ng Yu Sum in Osaka, Zhang Hanyu deeply experienced how amazing working with the Hong Kong director on a film has been. Each time he had ample action scenes that he had to handle. This time he of course was unable to comfortably sightsee in Osaka. Because everyday he had to handle stunt after stunt, he aggravated his old injury. Being able to dress up in a suit for a dramatic scene was rather rare for him. He said, "This was the opening scene of the film, after ten minutes I already had to go through hellish stunt scenes until the end of the film. Thus I had to properly enjoy this moment. This handsome image could only happen in the beginning, after that...I don't even get to wear clothes. I just keep running and get dirty all over." * (2016/07/25) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Chow Yun Fat and Tony Leung Ka Fai, three great Best Actors, starred in the film COLD WAR 2 (HONG JIN 2). Currently busy with his concert rehearsal, Sing Sing admitted that he took three hours off for the audience appreciation. He happily said, "I will have other jobs later, I may not be able to personally attend any more audience appreciation. This performance absolutely is a team effort. I hope the audience would show more support, watching it again and again. I don't have any expectation of how much the final box office will be. We will talk more after the record is breaking, even by a buck it is still broken." On of the so-called "THREE" is the Vicki Zhao Wei played brain surgeon, from her we know that at age 17 she came to Hong Kong, learned Cantonese, English and got into medical school......a story of a new immigrant's upwardly mobile success. The writer observed from friends with similar experience in the cultural world, behind the rapid success often was the support of strong self confidence and positive energy. This type of self confidence sometimes would become a burden instead. Childish Hospital Battle Of Wits As soon as the film starts, the surgeon falls into a rush to reaffirm herself after an earlier surgical mishap. This state of mind when she is at odds with the other two sides puts her in a dilemma. The second is the Louis Koo Tin Lok played Chief Inspector Chan Wai Lok. While questioning a suspect under his command, his subordinate shoots the suspect in the head. Chan Wai Lok brings his team to the hospital to continue the investigation and even more importantly to destroy the evidence of shooting the suspect in order to keep everyone's future from being ruined. The third is the injured suspect Cheung Lai Shun. Although he was shot in the head and his life hung in a balance, he still refused surgery as he was waiting for his cohorts to rescue him at the hospital. The most attractive part of this character is how eloquent he is. He even emotions the father of medicine, quoting classics word for word as he uses language to challenge professionals like doctors and police officers. Some says that this character seems to be like an intellectual/university professor, but the writer thinks that people who like to abruptly show off starter knowledge like this are usually those who like to read, have rich common knowledge but perform poorly at school. Usually they may even be able to get into the university...... The battle of wits between these three types of people in the hospital room is the entire film's main plot. However, like the character who actually only like to show off his knowledge, this film's "battle of wits" quality is rather limited. Let's skip over the professionalism of the doctor and the cop being almost completely emptied, that hospital room almost without any cover at all in the film had a variety or related or unrelated people randomly coming and going. The suspect and ordinary patients were in the same room, which even had a "wasted youth" who refused to leave the hospital lingering for long run......viewers who have been to Hong Kong public hospitals (whether for work or for illness) would probably be upset. Hidden Metaphor Is No Help To The Drama The entire cop and robber face off, to when the surgeon leaves her own crisis, the professional conflict between the police and the doctor, this type of screen writing and directing arrangement are actually full of holes. It almost have nothing to do with the opening surgery scene that gives people the impression of professionalism. The fact is, THREE is a very "traditional" "Hong Kong film", although actually this is a co-production film with the Mainland. All along, To Kei Fung's work has had a very smart part when the script may be written on the spot with "flying papers". In the end a story that may or may not work would be put together. The writer and the director would always be able to explain the numerous hints in the film to give critics who likes to "explain" endless joy of discussing them. The problem is these had a lot to do with the explanations and explainers' personal experience. With the slightest change of point of views, you may not be able to see the hidden metaphors. With the slightest change of time and space, the controversy of professional ethics and doctor quality also become no longer important. The slightest change in lyrics and mad men as well are details for everyone to conveniently make condemnations. Viewers can see two, three or four layers of meaning, but how much of this type of language/word games have to do with the film itself? In the past, To Kei Fung's work even has a strong visual and style support to explain the hints, but now with THREE it is so complicated that it cannot reach this point. It is very hard for people to make the connection between the explanations and the text itself, which is rather regretful. 3. TA KUNG PAO, JULY 21 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH MAINLAND FILM MARKET SPECIAL PHENOMENON The optimism of the market recently not only created many different film investments (and production companies) and thirst for talent phenomena, but also some that were already existing but now only became stronger. Earlier at the Shanghai Film Festival, several dozen film companies all held press conferences. The most important segment was project introductions. Companies big or small would have ten to several dozen film projects, the film industry seemingly was indeed "on the happy trail to success". Some veteran industry insiders thumbed their noses at these "film list games" and thought they were only done to cover their tracks. Actually, they had different reasons behind them. In the current film market, everyone agreed that "there is no shortage of money, only shortage of projects". How can listing all the projects that you are participating in have nothing to do with money? If it is a project that your company is the "primary investor" in, after the press conference naturally many "participant investor" companies will ask about it. If the company has many "participant investments", the company recognition can be elevated and drawing investor interests. As for public traded companies that are worth tens of billions, they probably have "no shortage of money". The "film list game" is still a necessity because it has a lot to do with the stock prices, confidence and forecast. A clear headed insider once surveyed that such production project press conferences mostly just talked big, not 100% of the projects will be completed. For example from last year's film company "film list", many are only half completed this year. Some projects are even nowhere to be found. Experienced colleagues would only need a glance at the "film list" to know its "substance" and quality. Sometimes the greater the quantity it has, not only its "substance" is highly mixed but also its quality is lacking. However this type of "production plan" announcement targets are mainly investors and the general public. What they hear may be drastically different. Another film industry phenomenon is the overabundance of intellectual property. Now many companies have bought a lot of IP but have no way to turn them into films. Where is the problem? IP is worth money because film content is worth money. Creating content seems to be harder to adapting content, so buying IP to turn into films is a "short cut". Thus everyone flock to buy them. After buying a lot of IP, they realize it is a mistake. The mistake lies with the buyer does not have ample film market and creative experience. However since the money is already spent, those who are unwilling to take a loss are still "studying" how to get the Midas touch. Of course, nonstop purchasing and mergers have become certain film companies' "primary business". It is also on of the strange phenomena but it is not commonplace. These various phenomena probably can be written into a 10,000 word thesis and would be helpful to the study of current Mainland film market and even economic development process. Worthy of note is, these phenomena have not left the market standards of developing regions.
