Recently he finally took a role in famous director Lou Ye's Mainland film HELL LOVER. After a 8 year ban, Edison finally officially returned to film as the second male lead, working with Jing Boran, Shu Qi and Michelle Chen. Edison put a lot of importance on his comeback film, and its production team tried to maintain a low profile to avoid touching the authorities' nerves. Lou Ye's film SUMMER PALACE won the Cannes Film Festival Best Screenplay, but because the film involved the Tiannanmen Square massacre it was banned for 5 years in the Mainland. Reportedly HELL LOVER will be a crime commercial film. Lou Ye did not make any official response, but the photos posted online proved that Edison was a part of the production. Last year Edison worked on the documentary VICE, in which he lamented, "I haven't touched the film for almost 8 years, this is the only place they defeated me at. They took away my passion, they won. Acting was where my passion lay. I really wanted to act, this was my only regret so far." * (2016/04/27) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Lam Suet, Gallen Lo (Law Ka Leung), Tiffany Tang Yan, Yao Chen, and Wong Hei starred, the Korean series MY LOVE FROM THE STAR director Jang Tae-Yoo directed new film MBA PARTNERS will open in the Mainland on the 29th and in Hong Kong on May 12th. Wong Hei yesterday promoted on DBC digital radio. He revealed, "MBA has the participation of a Korean team. They are all about the details. I am the least used to them checking finger nails on the first day of work. When they felt they failed they would immediately fixed them. My nails didn't pass and had to be trimmed. The team was all about the details and pursued perfection. Thus the more we shot the less them I spent on skin care, because everyday they took care of it." Wong Hei revealed that after working with Sing Sing in 2003 they worked together again. Did Sing Sing's girlfriend visit the set? Wong Hei smartly changed the subject. "Sing Sing after 12 years was still very handsome. It would be great if I don't change like him. (Was Sing Sing always on his phone sending text messages?) He was very professional, burying his head in the script. His Putonghua was very well grasped." Reporters joked that Sing Sing's girlfriend came from the Mainland, of course his Putonghua was great. Wong Hei again took a detour. "The team treated us very well, aside from Chinese, we also had Korean cuisine." In the film Yao Chen, Tang Yan and Hao Lei became "partners" and created an online business. Off screen Yao Chen revealed that she was already pregnant and will give birth to a new companion for her son in November. Tang Yan continued to keep her distance from the media because of their focus on her rumors. On the stage she only happily interacted with fans. When fans asked about playing business founders, Tang Yan and Hao Lei yesterday shared how they started their business. Tang Yan said, "We have to have a heart that dares to try, eat, drink, play and pleasure are all good directions for starting a business." Called a standing and walking "coat rack", Tang Yan smiled and felt that she was the product being packaged. Then she would work hard for market recognition. Many show business stars and artists started side businesses. Tang Yan said if she truly considered starting a business, she would set her sight on the food industry. Hao Lei grabbed the microphone and joked, "With my figure I can't be in the food business!" Hao Lei revealed that she liked accessories and gave a little plug for her online store. * (2016/04/26) Beijing Opera master Mei Baojiu yesterday passed away at age 82 in Beijing. Afflicted with asthma, during lunch at the end of March he suffered sudden bronchospasm that cut off oxygen to his brain. He remained in a coma and never gained consciousness. Yesterday he peacefully passed away around 11AM at age 82. A memorial will be held on May 3rd in Beijing. Born in 1934 in Shanghai, Mei Baojiu was the leader of the Beijing Opera Mei School Artand the chief of the Mei Lanfeng Beijing Opera troupe. His representative work included FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE, THE DRUNKEN CONCUBINE and MU GUIYING TAKES COMMAND. Mei Baojiu at age 10 began to study the art. At age 13 he made his debut. With his sweet voice he resembled his father Mei Lanfeng from his appearance to his voice. Mei Lanfeng often gave him artistic advice. Mei Baojiu also was very highly trained in martial art diva roles and Kun Opera. Wong Cho Lam earlier brought his wife Leanne Li Yanan to support Mei Baojiu's Hong Kong performance. Yesterday he revealed that he made a connection as early as 2000. He said, "At the time I was still studying at the Performing Art Academy, I went alone to Beijing to study Beijing Opera. When I visited my idol Master Mei Lanfeng's home, I ran into Mr. Mei Baojiu who was working on a special about his father. I asked for a photo like a fan, he agreed without any arrogance at all!" Cho Lam even said that he saw the veteran enjoying a fish filet sandwich, which looked very interesting and very memorable. At the time Mei Boajiu was surprised that a young man would head north to study the Beijing Opera and encouraged him to study well. Mainland director Chen Kaige directed the film FOREVER ENTHRALLED (MEI LANFENG) in 2007 about the life of Mei Lanfeng. Leon Lai Ming who grew up in Beijing played the middle aged Mei Lanfeng. At the time Mei Baojiu even took the time to rehearse with Lai Ming. Later he praised Lai Ming as a very generous, righteous and very nice guy. He could tell he was playing Mei Lanfeng humbly, which was very similar to his father. He admitted that in the film Lai Ming was completely in character. Mr. Mei also said, "He had the traditional flavor of growing up in Beijing, I am very pleased with him." Lai Ming remembered Mei Baojiu as "Lord Jiu" online, saying that the Mei family art will always remain in his heart! One of the film's investors Albert Yeung Sau Sing yesterday expressed regret about his passing. He revealed that the last time he saw him was at a Mainland award presentation. At the time Mei Baojiu asked him to dinner in Beijing, but he never had the time. He even said that back then Mei Baojiu contributed a lot to the film and was a great person. As the "Mei School" successor Mei Baojiu inherited his father Mei Lanfeng's career as China's Beijing Opera master of a generation and the best among the "Four Great Divas". Born in 1894 in Beijing, he started studying opera at age 8 and began to perform at age 10. As a man he specialized in diva roles -- female roles in operas. The Beijing Opera at the end of the Qing Dynasty focused on form and not emotional performance. Lan Meifeng injected emotions into Beijing Opera. His emotional performance developed into the unique "Mei school". His representative work included FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE, MU GUIYING TAKES COMMAND and THE DRUNKEN CONCUBINE. FAREWELL MY CONCUBINE was adapted into Cantonese opera and films, including the late superstar Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing starred film of the same title. Mei Lanfeng even actively spread Chinese opera culture overseas, visiting Japan, the Soviet Union and the United States. In 1961 he passed away in Beijing at age 66. * (2016/04/26) The Emperor Motion Pictures' 250 million RMB first 4D cuisine Chinese film COOK UP A STORM (Fung Mei Gong Wu ji Kuet Jin Sik Sun) yesterday held its production start ceremony at the National Art Film and Television Studio in Foshan. Director Raymond Yip Wai Man with Ge You, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Korean band CNBLUE member Jung Yong-Hwa, Tiffany Tang Yan, Michelle Bai Bing and others attended. Emperor Group chief Dr. Albert Yeung Sau Sing also showed his support with almost 100 Mainland and Hong Kong media outlets on hand. Before the ceremony, a shower suddenly passed by. When it officially began it cleared up. Yeung Sau Sing led the team in presenting incense sticks, but Jung Yong-Hwa did not really know how to place it. Ting Fung and the director had to lend a hand. He too was no match for the heat as he kept wiping his sweat and fixing his make up; Ge You also often removed his hat and wiped his head. Ge You worked on his first cuisine film and revealed that he would eat everything. Spicy food was his favorite. The host and actor Du Haitao revealed that Ting Fung was also the cuisine consultant, all the food on and off screen had to have his approval. Ting Fung also revealed that he wanted to explore street stall dishes, which was a huge challenge. Playing the head chiefs in the film, Ting Fung and Yong-Hwa tried fish maw dishes. Yong-Hwa said in Putonghua and Cantonese, "very delicious" and "very sharp". Ting Fung immediately revealed that when he had dinner with Yong-Hwa earlier Yong-Hwa often said "good good good". Later they presented "roast pig cake" to on screen "flavor king" Ge You to become his disciples. Ge You immediately had a taste and said it was top notch. Ting Fung said that he suggested the "roast pig cake" but he did not make it personally. He left it in the hands of bakers. As the food consultant, he pointed out that he explored all the dishes in the film. He stated, "Everyone became my lab rats." Would he still be chok when he played a street stall chef? He said, "I don't know, you will know when you watch the movie. (Street stall chefs don't like to cook with clothes on) I wouldn't, the most important was hygiene." Michelle Wai Si Nga revealed that when she tried Ting Fung's cooking she would learn in secret , so everyday she would run at the hotel to stay in shape. She also praised Ting Fung's arm strength as he was able to toss the wok with one hand. She would not do it with both hands. Ting Fung was asked if he has seen his children lately. He smiled and replied, "You know I won't answer." Was he worried that Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's debt collector would affect his children? He continued to say he would not answer. When asked if he has heard Dou Ching Tung's new record, Ting Fung at first said that he would not answer but later said that he did. Was she better than him? He joked, "How hard would it be to be better than me?" Finally he was asked about wedding news with Faye Wong. He said with certainty, "No, this one I have to answer. (Have you thought about getting married?) I won't answer." Yong-Hwa said that he could not cook. Because in the film he played a famous three star chef he had to put a lot of effort into learning the technique. He revealed that he did not know how to use a knife before and would use a pair of scissors instead. Now he practiced with the knife more and curry was his best dish. Has he tried Ting Fung's cooking? He stated, "Not yet, last time when we met the timing wasn't right." He said that he liked to eat anything and everything, he would eat whatever Ting Fung would cook but he would like to try sweet and sour pork the most. Aside from Foshan, the film will shoot on location in Macau in June. Next month the film will have open auctions for fans to work with their idols. Jung Yong-Hwa was asked he was used to the Mainland climate. He asked Bai Bing in Putonghua, "Hot?" Bai Bing nodded and he said in Putonghua, "The heat is killing Baby!" He praised Bai Bing for really taking care of him. Each time he was working she would teach him Mandarin. Bai Bing also praised Yong-Hwa as smart, he already learned something individual words after hearing it once. She also said that Yong-Hwa was already her student. This time would be Yong-Hwa's first film, when asked if it was any different from working on a series in Korea he said that at first he was very worried. After arriving he realized that it was exactly the same as a Korean production. The most special was that the Mainland sets were already built and he was able to focus more. They played a couple in the film. Bai Bing revealed that because of Yong-Hwa's fans she felt the pressure. They would have a kiss scene but it has not been shot yet. Was Yong-Hwa looking forward to the kiss scene? He joked, "I am faithful to the character." * (2016/04/26) The Benji Chiang Man Kit and his father Paul Chun Pui starred Mainland road movie MY TEN MILLION opened last Friday. Benji's film theme song TOGETHER released its music video last Thursday. In less than 24 hours QQ (Tencent)'s hit rate reached an incredible 280 million. Benji who was promoting in Kunming at the time was truly surprised. After gathering his wits he broke down and cried. This film was shot on location in Yunnan last year. Benji was in his first lead role. Actually over the years he insisted on relying on himself. He did not want to receive job opportunities due to his father. As for why he made an exception this time and worked with his father, Benji said, "Earlier my manager suggested for me to ask my Old Man to work together. I resisted until Mommy called me from Canada. She said that Pa has been in the business for over 60 years. He is 70 and who knows if we will have a chance to work together. Pa doesn't know when he will retire, I thought about it and agreed. Since I was little, Pa commuted between Hong Kong and Canada for work. I grew up in Canada and saw very little of Pa. In addition after over a decade in the business I never really worked with him, so I feel this was an opportunity to make up for some father son time." * (2016/04/26) Today is Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit)'s 53rd birthday. This year his birthday was rather special because he chose on this day to establish his "Jet Li" public weixin account, which was also one of his birthday wishes. Lee Nin Kit said, "After over 50 years, my birthday wish is to establish this 'Lee Nin Kit" public weixin account in hopes of promoting some meaningful events like charity work and future directions!" Because Lee Nin Kit was in Beijing he was unable to celebrate his birthday with his family. Fortunately his wife Nina Li Chi and their daughters have always been understanding of his work and never minded. He felt that he did not have to have dinner with his family on his birthday. The most important was to cherish their time together normally, which was already a joy. Lee Nin Kit said that his birthday wish was world peace and less dispute. He chose to establish this public account on April 26th because he wanted everyone to understand the current Lee Nint Kit, the past Lee Nin Kit and the future Lee Nin Kit. He hoped that everyone would follow the account. In order to thank everyone for their support, since yesterday for 10 days in a row 10 would be chosen from those who followed the public account and joined the "Lee Nin Kit Hero Camp" official fan club to receive a personally autographed tee shirt. * (2016/04/24) Artist Max Zhang Jin has been busy with his new film THE BRINK (KONG SAU). Playing a cop in the film, he had many action scenes. Yesterday he revealed online that he was injured during the shoot and posted many photos. "The fish market floor was wet and mossy, very slippery. When I ran I couldn't stop, when I jumped I couldn't land steadily. However nothing has really been an obstacle." * (2016/04/24) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing after winning this year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor reportedly with work with Mainland Best Actor Wang Qianyuan on an adaptation of the Korean film A HARD DAY, a movie in which two cops battle with brains and brawns. Yesterday he, manager Siu Mei and others held a production meeting. * (2016/04/24) The Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup takes place today at the Sha Tin Racecourse. Thus she had to further study her schedule. * (2016/04/24) Pakho Chau, Ram Chiang Chi Kwong and director Shirley Yung Sau Lan yesterday attended their new film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING) audience appreciation event. Pakho and Brother Kwong were very popular with the audience as many fans fought to shake Pakho's hands and take selfies. He saw that the show as sold out and hoped that the film would continue to sell out. He said, "I plan to book a show for friends. Pakho said that he has already been asked to direct or write a script for a film. When asked what subject he would like to write, he said, "I am interested in writing a story about family or pets, but pets are too hard to work with; as for love story I have already written it in songs." Reporters said that Pakho could write about friendship to coordinate with his earlier "ice breaking" dinner with Shawn Yue Man Lok. Pakho helplessly said, "Actually we just saw each other during the New Year, only we didn't upload the photos. We kept playing ball for Wang Chau Industry, I don't understand why people still remember something from several years ago." Recently busy with television series, Chiang Chi Kwong no longer had time to guest star in a new film. Has he watched the new television s station ViuTV? Brother Kwong said, "I took a glimpse, it's pretty good. With good competition the company can quicken its pace." However he said that he was not used to the slow pace of the Korean series, after the first two episodes he could not take anymore. He said that he has never finished a Korean series. "Because chasing a series takes a long time, we very rarely can watch an entire series in one breath. Sometimes I can't even watch my own performance." * (2016/04/23) Turning 52 next Tuesday, Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit) reduced his performance and appearance due to thyroid illness. When I heard it I was rolling on the floor laughing!" During the photo shoot, King Kong jokingly tried to cover up Bosco's image on the poster and even insisted that they did not look too different. "I have more hair than he does!" Two years ago when a sex tape surfaced online, King Kong denied it with "I am not as hairy as he is." Earlier at the premiere King Kong said that since his on screen mother Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) he wanted to drink milk. "Don't think just because you are not fluent you can say anything! (Has he been dirty with you?) He wouldn't dare!" When asked if she put away her figure because only King Kong was with her, she said, "Actually King Kong is pretty great. His new coffee shop gives away coffee with ticket stubs." As soon as the news spread, Cantonese Opera fans of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau eulogized this Cantonese Opera masters who founded the "Shrimp Tone" style. His cousin Law Kar Ying on social platform expressed his sorrow. Law Kar Ying said, "Brother Shrimp had many students and successors. He made a lifetime of contribution to Cantonese Opera. I wish Brother Shrimp would reach Sukhavati. The Cantonese Opera world would remember you forever." Brother Kar Ying's wife Liza Wang Ming Chuen also said that she would deeply remember this master of a generation. Law Kar Bo's farewell ceremony will take place on the 29th at 3PM at the Guangzhou Funeral Home. Known to everyone as "Brother Shrimp", Law Kar Bo came from a Cantonese Opera family. His father was the family percussionist Law Kar Shu. His Cantonese Opera representative work LIU YI DELIVERS A LETTER since its 1950 debut has been performed countless times. This opera also spread Law Kar Bo's "Shrimp Tone" far and wide and at the same time solidified his Cantonese Opera position. Law Kar Bo's "Shrimp Tone" was easy to learn and perform, great to listen to and flavorful. Opera fans who were familiar with Law Kar Bo knew that he was easy going and had the aura of the regular person. Thus the outside liked to call him the "Commoner Lao Guan". "Master has always liked this title." Famous Cantonese Opera performer Lau Kin Fo was Law Kar Bo's disciple. He kept lamenting how humble and studious his mentor was. "He personally loved to read, he also often told us his disciples to read more books". Lau Kin Fo told reporters, Master always said that actors must have culture and artistic class to be able to elevate even better. Becoming Law Kar Bo's disciple in 2009, Lau Kin Fo only had a six year relationship with him but has watched his mentor since childhood. He liked his singing tone. After becoming his disciple, Lau Kin For liked to record his mentor's live performances on digital video then showed him at his home. "Sometimes as soon as we played it we would watch for over two hours. He would definitely watch in detail from the beginning to the end, seriously study every detail of the performance." Normally, the master and the disciple would suggest adjustments through these performance details. "When he talked about opera, his spirit would rise. No one would be able to tell that he has been ailing for years." Lau Kin For lamented that Master in his final years was still enthusiastic about developing Cantonese Opera. When he was invited to attend events he would be very excited and looked forward to participating." "Because of attending outside events, he kept his back straight and persisted until the end. However later he was afraid that his body couldn't persist, he would regrettably turn down invitations because leaving earlier would create negative influence." Speaking of his master, Lau Kin Fo had many stories, each one filled him with sentiment. "Master not only was demanding of the disciples with Cantonese Opera performance. In life he was always on time and disliked others being late. He would never permit himself to be late to any event." Lau Kin Fo said that Master lived in Panyu. Sometimes he would meet disciples in the Guangzhou old district for morning tea at 8AM. He definitely would leave from home at 6AM. Often he would be a hour early. Law Kar Bo spared no energy in cultivating new comers. Famous Cantonese Opera diva Chiang Man Shui recalled, "When I graduated from Cantonese Opera school I was assigned to the Cantonese Opera Theater Second Troupe, the same troupe as Uncle Shrimp. At the time Uncle Shrimp in order to cultivate youth rearranged LEGEND OF THE WHITE SNAKE for me as my graduation dowry scene. He also created a new opera XI YU FENG YAN XI YU QING, in which we were father and daughter and had many scenes together. Uncle Shrimp always told me to read more, all kinds of books, movies, foreign films, Westerners' eyes were especially dramatic." Famous Cantonese Opera actor Au Hoi Ming was filled with respect when talking about Law Kar Bo. "He loved and was very protective of young Cantonese Opera actors". Au Hoi Ming remembered that once he performed at a Foshan farm village. Law Kar Bo rushed over after finding out. Seeing Law Kar Bo, Au Hoi Ming deliberately performed a few verses of his opera. Law Kar Bo was so happy that he stated, "This kid, this kid" full of love and care. Au Hoi Ming said that when an older Cantonese Opera veteran was able to show his support in person, to every young actor it was very encouraging. Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater chief Ding Fan said, "Mr. Law Kar Bo was a treasure of Cantonese Opera. The 'Shrimp Tone' that he founded was popular around the world, a rare achievement in the Cantonese Opera art world. His classic work LIU YI DELIVERS A LETTER and FORTY YEARS OF CHERISHED LOVE were held with high regards in the Cantonese Opera world." Ding Fan continued, Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater and many actors in other troupes were studying Law Kar Bo's artistic style. Law Kar Bo cultivated many actors and many students. In recent years, Law Kar Bo's health has not been great, but his heart has always been tied to the growth and development of young actors. As long as his body permitted he would attend various events at the Cantonese Opera Theater. * (2016/04/23) Kara Wai Ying Hung, Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling, Ankie Beilke, Ng See Yuen, Alfred Cheung Kin Ting, Liu Kai Chi and others two nights ago attended the "13th Global Chinese University Student Film and Television Award Presentation". Siu Hung has always supported students and made many new directors' films. The new generation's ways would bring her new impact, but some new comers were more stubborn. Sister Siu Hung who has always supported students said that she helped students with their films and that the new generation's different ways would have new impact. However some were more stubborn and insisted upon their own ideas. Thus she has been in conflict with them, however after arguing she would realize that their ways were different from what she was used to. "Maybe some young people don't know how to communicate with people. Some new directors would listen to opinions but has none of their own. They would let you do your own thing, which means you are being yourself again. Often without any room for negotiation, I would do it both ways. After things quiet down we would see if they felt any different." Bui On Kei said that she was very supportive of student film creation. Earlier she worked with a group of young people. She played a very strong and very successful woman, behind whom was darkness and murderous intent. Lately she participated in many film festivals and felt that the new generation of Hong Kong filmmakers was decent and getting better and better. Ngan Cheuk Ling revealed that later she will present an award with director Adam Wong Sau Ping. One of the reasons that she attended was Wong Sau Ping. He often said that they would have dinner to talk about THE WAY WE DANCE (KONG MO PAI) sequel. She said, "We couldn't make it happen for several months, but I know that he met with BabyJohn (Choi Hong Yik). I am really very mad. (Does he want to dump you?) No, he said that he wanted to discuss the story with me and hoped to add some real elements. Either I would be Ah Fa or Ngan Cheuk Ling. Thus when I have time I would grab him and ask." Ngan Cheuk Ling also said that she has seen the students' work. Some had better quality than industry insiders as many rising talents existed. * (2016/04/23) Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi issued a statement about Next Weekly's earlier report titled "Younger Son Does Not Follow Old Man". They said that the article mentioned their younger son Quintus "not following" father Tse Ting Fung, the content of which was completely untrue. "We have always maintained a decent relationship. For our two sons from education to life we maintained decent and close communication. Both sides are working hard to ensure that both sons would grow up in a healthy and happy environment. We have a mutual understanding for scheduled family gatherings and meetings with our two sons, which is what the so-called 'people around us' and 'people in the know' in the report did not know; how we and our two sons got along only we would know the most about. We plead with these 'people around us' and 'people in the know' not to further make up stories to harm the children. We also hope that individual media outlets would not again report stories that 'people in the know' made up and/or make any untrue reports, thus affecting the children and leaving them with unnecessary childhood scars. Over the years we bear the pressure of negative media reports while at the same time maintained the close relationships between family members. We would do our best to protect our sons so they can continue to grow in a happy and healthy environment. We sincerely hope that all our friends in the media would understand the hearts of parents. Everyone love their children and their hearts would break over any harm they suffer. We please plead with all our friends in the media to stop reporting such false and damaging reports." * (2016/04/22) Artists Chin Siu Ho and Bondy Chiu Hok Yi earlier worked on the Ha Yu produced film GAU GEUNG CHING DOH FU. Because the film had a lot of night scenes, the atmosphere was eerier. They turned into jokesters as they kept coming up with rotten gags to keep the team alert. Hok Yi jokingly called Siu Ho an elder, Siu Ho said, "You want to say I am a senior! I admit to being an elder, my last name is Chin, I am of the 'Chin generation'." Speaking of all the stunts in the film, Siu Ho said that they have become harder and harder to handle. "I grew up! I could do them but they were tougher. I hope the new generation like co-star Babyjohn (Choi Hong Yik) would be able to take over." Hok Yi joked, "That's why you aren't willing to teach me! You think I am too old!" Siu Ho said, "Actually you are I are pretty close, soon we can take the MTR for two bucks!" Hok Yi said that despite the numerous night shoots, her husband has been very supportive. Siu Ho joked, "You see each other less, reducing friction is even better!" * (2016/04/21) Former assistant directors Sunny Luk Kim Chingand art director Longman Leung Lok Man with their first film COLD WAR (HONG JIN) won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Film and Best Director. Peter Lam Kin Ngok did not underestimate them and asked them to make HELIOS (CHET DOH). Yet the curse of "Only for poorer not for richer" seemed to again come true on Sunny and Longman. Reportedly after HELIOS and the upcoming release COLD WAR 2 the difference between them grew more and more. In order to keep from hurting their friendship they have already negotiated a parting of ways. However before breaking up they still had problems to take care of. Earlier they signed a film contract so their break up could not take place immediately. The contract stipulated that they had to direct together. The resolution was that the film company would be willing to let them sign new contracts as individuals. However many film companies that already signed contracts were still considering and had a few choice words. Their new film COLD WAR 2 has already been scheduled for a summer release. If it would perform well, Edko boss Bill Kong Chi Keung has already said that he would make a third film and stated that they had to direct it together. Since this was their trademark film, if they broke up and the production had any difference both directors would suffer negative effects. Longman said, "We don't have any major resolution yet. Right now we are working on some projects. We won't break up so soon. How should I say this, we have thought about developing on our own. Ultimately everyone have something that they want to make. Sometimes we work together sometimes we don't. We can't call it a break up." Will they direct their next films on their own? Longman said that it would be too soon to say. He even revealed that Boss Kong constantly asked them to make COLD WAR 3 soon. Sunny replied, "Huh, where did this come from? No. I want to understand why such a rumor would come about. The next movie with Longman due to business reasons can't be talked about yet." * (2016/04/21) Artists Grace Lam Nga Sze, Grace Cheung Ka Ying, Choi Kwok Wai, Kiwi Yuen Kit Yi and Lau Shek Yin two nights ago attended the advanced screening of the film NOWHERE TO HIDE! (NAM GIK TAM SEH DUNG). Lam Nga Sze revealed plans to make a micro movie. Would she add in a story about bad men? She said, "It has a little of everything! It's not completely my story." Cheung Ka Ying just returned from diving in the Philippines and said that recently she worked on a commercial. "This was a job that I found myself after leaving ATV. It's very encouraging! Finally I actually have something to do, I feel like I am useful." Don Li Yat Long admitted that because the shoot was only more than 10 days, it was short and rushed so he was very nervous. He said that the film mentioned Hong Kong scandals. At first he worried that it would be controversial, then he learned that it would not be ridiculing as its goal was for the good of Hong Kong and hoped that everyone would learn from it. He revealed that he was planning to direct a script that he has been writing for 5 years and planned to invest 7 figures of his saving. * (2016/04/21) The Sun Entertainment invested film THE BRINK (KONG SAU) yesterday held a production start ceremony at the Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market. Boss Paco Wong, producer Soi Cheang Po Shui, director Jonathan Li Tsz Chun, actors Shawn Yue Man Lok, Max Zhang Jin, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Cecilia So Lai Shan and Mainland actor Wu Yue attended. As for rumors of him clicking with Mainland actress Zhou Dongyu during a reality show shoot, Lok Jai said that he would never say never. Yue Man Lok in the film played a robber, a villain and had fight scenes with Zhang Jin. They even ended up in the water. With a diving license, Lok Jai was able to handle it easier. Lok Jai and Mainland actress Zhou Dongyu were rumored to have clicked while working on a reality show, Lok Jai joked, "The reports would definitely say that. Actually I don't mind whatever they write. I have been in the business for years. We have worked together for awhile. As for any opportunity to develop, I would never say never. However it feels more like friendship." Lok Jai was rumored to be upset at Pakho Chau cheating with their basketball teammate's sister behind his girlfriend's back and thus have been at odds for years. Lately they finally broke the ice. Lok Jai said, "Are you talking about such nonsense? We have always been fine, we have been written about for three years. During the period we met and had dinner. I was hardly ever in Hong Kong so I rarely saw my friends." Would he play basketball with Pakho? "I haven't played in awhile, I don't have time to do anything else because work has taken up a lot of time. I have to spend more time with my family. I sacrificed my personal time." Playing a cop in the film, Zhang Jin dyed his hair blond. He said that he had to bleach his hair three to four times for this effect, but his younger daughter did not appreciate it at all. She even said to him, "Papa you are very gross!" Speaking of Lok Jai deliberately pumping up for his fight scenes with him, Zhang Jin said, "He is much bigger than me, if you can fight you don't have to be big." Playing Zhang Jin's partner, Wu Yue said that this was the film with the most fight scenes in his career. As Zhang Jin and Wu Yue's superior, Lam Ka Tung said that he and Zhang Jin will shoot an underwater explosion scene. Thus they learned to dive. He said that this time he could take advantage and get a diving license. However when he first learned to dive he felt pain in his ears. he had to slowly get used to it and he was a little afraid of running into sharks. So Lai Shan played Zhang Jin's daughter. Although she would not need to fight she had to look for her father on a speedboat. She said, "Although I don't have to get into the water, I have to wear a swimsuit. Now I am worried that the shoot would be very awkward." She also said that she has not told her boyfriend Neo Yau Hawk Sau but believed that he would understand. * (2016/04/21) In MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) played Chu Kei, who had to keep her marraige a secret to keep her career. Thus her Pakho Chau played husband Lai Mo helped. Yet the media and film industry people wanted to find proof of their marriage so they went looking everywhere. In the process Chu Kei and Lai Mo recalled their past. The most romantic had to be their proposal. When Lai Mo finished a marathon, he proposed to Chu Kei at the finish line. The media even caught the proposal. The entire process of course did not lack any grossly romantic proposal dialogue, but the most memorable had to be their Mario Brothers costumes. Sum Yau and Pakho might be athletic, but the shoot took place in 33 degree Celsius heat. They had to wear their heavy costumes and only they knew the pain. Because many extras played runners as well, for a reasonable yet romantic scene, Sum Yau and Pakho had to keep running back and forth in front of the camera. Finally they had 7 bad takes before the director accepted one. The crew in order to lighten the load on Sum Yau and Pakho, when they were not working they immediately block them from the sun. Pakho recalled, "It was really too hot, I had to wear a very tight costume to play Luigi. Before I even ran I was already sweating all over. Thus the very painful expression of running while trying to catch my breath came from the heart." Sum Yau was excited. She explained, "Actually I really like Mario, when I put my hair up I look the part. However my skin is more sensitive, otherwise I would add the moustache too!" * (2016/04/21) The Johnnie To Kei Fung directed, TO Kei Fung, Yau Nai Hoi produced, Vicki Zhao Wei, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Wallace Chung Han Leung starred crime film THREE (SAM YUN HUNG) will open in June. The first trailer saluted the Milky Way Image 20th anniversary with a "gun fire version", as gun fire completely ignited many people's heartbeats that have been quiet for a long time already. To Kei Fung with the three aces "Zhao Wei+Koo Tin Lok+Chung Han Leung" returned to crime, how he would bring about unique freshness triggered a lot of hot and endless debates. The film THREE was about a doctor, a cop and a robber iin a thrilling exchange at a hospital where the wheel of "life, aging, sickness and death" turned round and round again. To Kei Fung after DRUG WAR (DUK JIN) returned to take aim at his expertise of crime, which many have been starving for. To Kei Fung said that THREE was a subject that he wanted to make a long time ago and had special meaning for him. As a creator he hoped ot be able to find different space. THREE took place at a hospital, which to him was an enormous challenge. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 21 2016, ASIAN FILMS MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR: SECRET MARRIAGE FOR A REASON Whether marital status should be revealed or not has always been a source of comedy film subjects. Since the 50s, Hong Kong film has had comedies that sold this idea. Even today, occasional entertainment news about some artists' years of secret marriage would surface as this problem still exists today. The Shirley Yung Sau Lan directed new film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING) also interpreted this subject. In the film the female protagonist's identity was different from women who in order to work outside hid their marital status in the 50s and the 60s. Today's women had even more complicated reasons to appear as single. - HUNG KWONG MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR's story revolved around the Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) played extra Chu Kei, who has been floating around the film industry for years. By accident she caught a film company boss' eye and was promoted to the Lunar New Year film female lead. For her stardom, Chu Kei decided to hide her marital status. Her photo journalist husband Lai Mo whose heart was set on become an embedded battlefield reporter was assigned to the entertainment team at this time. To help his wife fulfill her dream, the "singled" Lai Mo coordinated with everything and kept separate lives with his wife. Only, as Chu Kei's popularity rose their relationship gradually faded. At this time, rumors of Chu Kei's marital status surfaced in show business. The magazine chief editor wants Lai Mo to find out the truth. Lai Mo sneaks onto the production team to observe his wife and discovers Chu Kei and her boss' ambiguous relationship. The couple thus gets into a row...... In the tug of war between career and love, does she has to pay the price of love in order to succeed? The biggest difference from the past "secret marriage films" is this film adds Hong Kong film industry elements and the MR. AND MRS. SMITH style conflict -- star and photo journalist as a couple. A Couple On Opposite Sides Rocks The Marriage The subject of secret marriage keeps on being made into comedy first because it is a sex stereotype problem. In a male dominated society women would have less opportunity to work. Married women especially would have even less. This point alone is already the source of conflict. The husband's dignity, the misunderstanding of an affair can all be comedy material. Only, today in the 21st century, Hong Kong married woman at work is already the norm. In order to create comedy material, male and female attack and defend situations like the danger of an affair are more often than sex stereotype. In the film Chu Kei and Lai Mo's marital relationship actually is very empty. Both have their jobs but seemingly do not make a lot. Yet their lives should be carefree (from their living environment in the film). They do not really need to take daily chores. A young couple's minor fun and life friction would be hard to become the main source of dramatic conflict. The entire film's drama ultimately focuses on the situation between stars and the paparazzi. Both want success in their careers so they pay their marital life as the price, he especially does. The writer and the director actually can only glance over this subject. The conflict between love and career has not been explained. The Delicate Artist And Entertainment Reporter Relationship The impression of glancing over the entire conflict is not only because of the aforementioned empty marital life but also the leads' expectations of their careers. He as the photo journalist whose dream cannot be fulfilled is only support, his entire work environment is childish and simple perhaps because it is not too important. She as the extra bitterly stands guard in the film industry. When she gets the chance to be the Lunar New Year film female lead, the entire matter resembles more like a fairy tale that an industry outsider created. Yet this film's director is a veteran industry insider. In addition this film often adds its lament for the current conditions of the Hong Kong film industry, like in the past Hong Kong film produced 200 films a years and gave thousands of opportunities to extras. Now it only makes several dozens. The film also makes fun of Wong Kar Wai and his 2046. The entire film's most spot on observation may be these entertainment reporters and artists rely on each other for survival. The former want to expose artist privacy but also have to rely on artist informants, sometimes they would also help artists hide the truth in their delicate relationship. Yet aside from those widely covered lament, the entire film neither put a lot ink on actual details of the film industry nor turn the story of a stardom dream into the elegance of a genre film or the humorous sense of a comedy. If a new director who has toiled in the industry for years can only make the film industry look like this (although it is a comedy that does not need to be serious), then it is very hard to blame the investors for not giving new comers opportunities to make movies. 3. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 21 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH NEW "NEW WAVE" Some said that the Mainland market has attracted all the best of Hong Kong film. The Financial Secretary pointed out that Hong Kong filmmakers have gone to another stage; dos this mean that the Hong Kong film industry has a fault without any successor? Over the past few years, the writer has stressed that the Hong Kong film problem was a personnel fault. However, recently the personnel problem had positive development. Hong Kong film seemed to have a new wave like it did 40 years ago as young filmmakers flooded in. As this year's Hong Kong Asian Film Financing Forum Hong Kong prize winner Mani Man Pui Hing just said, VAMPIRE DIARY (SI BUN YUT GEI), the young generation truly had a lot of imagination and really wanted to work. The entire industry was already drastically different from the past. The reason for the difference lay with a new situation that formed with years of hard work from different organizations, interested parties and the government. A group of young people who were filled with passion for film made their first films. The Asian Film Financing Forum this year had over 300 stories. The writer was one of the readers and was very encouraged to see stories with endless creativity. Even rarer was that some films applied for financial assistance with different organizations (like the Art Development Council and Create Hong Kong), which not only made the writer smile but also admire their persistence. The Johnnie To Kei Fung ran Fresh Wave short film contest over the years cultivated a large group of new film workers. After A COMPLICATED STORY (YUT GOR FOOK JAP DIK GOO SI), now came TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG). The directors of the film all made their feature debut. They worked tirelessly for almost five years, made a critical and commercial hit TRIVISA as an extreme good example. Last century the new wave directors mostly returned from studying film overseas. They joined the film industry without any regard for compensation and brought a new climate to the industry. This time, a group of new directors were mostly educated domestically. They also without any regard for compensation were fully passionate. Conceivably they too soon would make names for themselves. Create Hong Kong's Fist Feature Film Initiative probably was the Film Development Council's best project. Two Higher Education Institution Group winners with HK$ 2 million achieved quality. To veteran filmmakers they have created miracles. These two directors Chan Chi Fat (WEEDS ON FIRE) and Wong Chun (MAD WORLD) after toiling without rest for two years and with veteran film producers and elders' advice saved time on making wrong turns and created a new and veteran filmmaker alliance format, which was a very good start. This New Wave had a difference from the one 40 years ago, today's veteran filmmakers sensed the importance of successors. Almost everyone were willing to selflessly assist new directors, which was very touching. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] COOK UP A STORM Can : Fung Mei Kong Wu ji Kuet Jin Sik Sun d. Opening February 12 2016 at the Berlin Film Festival Opening April 7 2016 Trailer : https://youtu.be/ZsE97uwjkEo [ BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Hong Kong, summer 1997: while preparations are underway for the handover of the British Crown Colony to China, the underworld finds that it too must adapt to profound changes. With the opening of the border to China, new codes and mores make their way into the world of the triads – and those who don’t adjust their business models have already lost. A genre film from Hong Kong that chooses to set its story during those years of turmoil is tantamount to a double swan song. For these political changes also effectively spelled the end of an independent Hong Kong cinema that was admired across Asia. One of the few directors who has continued to defend and develop the genre is Johnnie To. By producing TRIVISA, To is flying the flag for three up-and-coming directors who tell the stories of three legendary gangsters of the period. This is not an anthology film, but rather an overlapping story of men who become victims of their own legends. As chance brings them all together one day in the same restaurant on the Chinese side of the border, rumours swirl that the three are planning a joint coup. In elegant fashion, hype and hubris lead to their downfall. (Christoph Terhechte) PORT OF CALL Rating : III Length : 120 mins. Opening April 6 2015 at the Hong Kong International Film Festival Opening December 3 2015 Trailer: http://youtu.be/8WlHzaSeTus [ HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] A teenage prostitute is murdered; her body cut up and flushed down the toilet, and her severed head thrown into Victoria Harbor. Director Philip Yung chooses to focus not on the crime or the investigation, but on the dead girl and her family, the cop and his family, and the killer who is without a family. The result is a genre-bender that progresses as it digresses, an atmospheric mosaic of human lives and actions that invariably get complicated, out of order and beyond reason, and with the characters firmly grounded in gritty and unforgiving reality. [ THE FILM CATALOGUE ] Jiamei Wang has moved to Hong Kong from Dongguan, China two years ago. Desperate to become financially independent from her mother and step-father, she ends up becoming a “compensated date”. Chi-chung Ting, a truck driver who had just been brutally dumped, finds Jiamei online. They communicate with each other via text message and become friends right away. They share their background stories, and talk about everything from love to hate, from life to death. On the day of the murder, Jiamei and Chi-chung finally meet in person. In the room, they play, indulge in ketamine and really enjoy themselves. Finally, they go to the bed. During sex, Jiamei tells Chi-chung she wants to die. Chi-chung squeezes her neck until she passes away. Ching Sir, in charge of investigating the case, is a quirky police officer. When he investigates a case, he often ignores the details of the case itself but rather researches extensively on the personality of the people involved. Although he already has enough evidence to charge Chi-chung Ting, he wants to get to know Ting and Jiamei Wang better. He wants to look at our times with his heart. What exactly happened? He wishes to find out the real reason behind the incident, to prove that human nature is not evil, to shine a light onto the darkness. ROBBERY Rating : III Length : 902 mins. [ HONG KONG MOVIE 6 ] A young guy named Ping gets a job working as a cashier in the Exceed convenience store. At midnight, Grandpa goes into the store to buy bargain priced breads. Annoyed and offended by the store manager Fat Boss’ sarcasm and contempt, Grandpa stabs a pair of scissors into Fat Boss’ neck.
