MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/04/20) Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik yesterday worked on location for their new film 29+1 in Sha Tin. Chrissie and Yun Yi had four to five assistants to help them at work. Babyjohn however only had one assistant, which he did not mind at all. Instead he felt that with assistants on the set his production mood might be affected. "Girls are different, they have to be detailed with their make up and hair. They are also afraid of wardrobe malfunction, so having more assistants is normal!" Chrissie worked barefoot in an emotional scene. After the shot assistants immediately delivered slippers and jacket to her, but she was no "HK woman" as after the shoot she personally cleaned her feet with wet napkins. Earlier hinting that she wanted to date, she joked that due to work she had no suitor yet. "I always want to date! Seeing many friends getting married and having children, I want to have someone to be with!" Yun Yi and Babyjohn rode a bicycle, danced and blew bubbles. Yun Yi kept shaking left and right during her dance and often ended up drenched in sweat. Her assistants frequently handed her towels. Yun Yi revealed that she only had one scene with Chrissie and said that her character was drastically different from her usual image. Babyjohn in the film was Yun Yi's childhood friend. Their most intimate scene was just bicycle riding and loving stares. In one scene Yun Yi fell, he immediately helped her up. The result however was more comedic than romantic! * (2016/04/20) The film PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) received many awards at various film festivals. The film company last night held a celebration. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Michael Ning (Bak Ji) and Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) attended. The film's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor Sing Sing shook hands with everyone and was in high spirits. He even said that his Hong Kong Coliseum concert will have highly difficult challenges. Sing Sing said that he has already celebrated many time, so many that he could not remember. He celebrated with family and friends. This time he celebrated with the team. As for the film's re-release already reaching HK$ 8 million at the box office, Sing Sing happily said, "I am happy that it had good word of mouth. This was the first film that was released again in my career. Earlier some friends had to work and couldn't see it. Now they can with the re-release. They also said that it was great. (Did your girlfriend watch it again?) I don't want to talk too much about my personal life. (Your girlfriend should really appreciate you.) I don't want to talk too much about my personal life." Speaking of his upcoming jobs, Sing Sing said that in August he will perform a concert. Has his leg injury healed? Sing Sing said, "Luckily Fat Gor introduced me to a sports physical therapist who studied in the U.S. He helped me recover rapidly in a painless way. After three months I am already over 95% back." He immediately demonstrated with a few jumps. He said that dancing was not a problem, he just could not do anything in high speed. Sing Sing revealed that he wanted to try anything that has not been done at the Hong Kong Coliseum and hoped that everyone would look forward to it. He was very demanding with his choreography. A world class dancer he met earlier agreed to participated. As for films, Sing Sing said that next month he will fly to Kuala Lumpur for a dark comedy SIU SI JEH (HIT AND RUN). He will play a cop. Bak Ji with the film PORT OF CALL won both Hong Kong Film Award Best New Performer and Best Supporting Actor. Has his salary made a big jump? He said, "It's still around there." He said that after winning the awards he has been rehearsing a play with Shine. In June he will work with Ivana Wong Yuen Chi on another play. Wong Yuen Chi last year also won Best New Performer and Bets Supporting Actress. Has he been able to share his experience with her? Bak Ji said, "For now I haven't had the time, but several days ago I saw online how surprised Wong Yuen Chi and (Fiona) Sit Hoi Kei were when they made the announcement. I was very happy to receive this award from their hands." Carina Lau Ka Ling publicly praised his acting. Would he like to work with Ka Ling? Bak Ji said, "If I have the chance of course I would, I was a little surprised because Ka Ling is an amazing actor and a stage queen. However if we work together I would be very scared because Ka Ling is super strong. (Will you be willing to take a pay cut?) Yes, even with a pay cut, but I am pretty cheap already! (Did you get a raise after the awards?) I know my limits, I didn't get more film offers. Instead I have a lot of plays scheduled. Because I am a stage actor, it's very hard to give up the stage." He also revealed that he was very happy to work with Louis Cheung Ka Chung later on the film Z FOR ZOMBIE (GUM MAN DA SONG SI). Earlier he mentioned that he could not leave his PORT character. Bak Ji said that after PORT he made many movies and has already left the character. Instead he asked everyone, "Am I scary now?" * (2016/04/20) Kate Tsui Tsz Shan, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, King Kong, Charmaine Fong Ho Man, Stanley Fung Shui Fan and Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) two nights ago attended the film BUDDY COPS (YING GAING HING DAI)'s premiere. James Ng Yip Kwan, Sisley Choi Sze Bui, Louisa Mak Ming Sze and Carat Cheung Ming Nga showed their support. Lead actor Tsui Tsz Shan dressed up and humbly said that her figure was no match for King Kong's girlfriend Yuri Chan, so she was not afraid of rumors when working with King Kong. He was not her type anyway. Did Tsz Shan invite her boyfriend? Tsz Shan claimed not to have one. "How can I invite one if I don't have any? I have male friends. (Anyone with any possibility?) If they do I wouldn't invite them here for you to shoot." Earlier Tsz Shan was caught on a date with David Siu Chung Hung's brother. She clarified that they only ran into each other that day. "Every time I ran into male friends people would write about it. For now I had to avoid everyone, I am afraid of scaring off suitors." King Kong and Tsz Shan played a couple in the film. He said that Tsz Shan's "buckteeth four eyed girl" in the film frightened him, thus he hit her and gave her a nosebleed. Tsz Shan said, "As soon as he saw my teeth he wanted to hit me." Bosco praised Fong Ho Man for a great nude scene. "I have never seen her so sexy." However she stressed that he was not tempted. Fong Ho Man said that during the shoot she took precautions so she was not afraid of wardrobe malfunction. Instead Bosco was very nervous for her. "His eyes were electrifying. Although in bed he only kissed my forehead, I was so nervous I was sweating." Bosco joked that their love was very reserved. * (2016/04/20) The Ti Lung, Jessica Hester Hsuan (SUen Huen) starred film THE KID FROM THE BIG APPLE (NGOR LOI JI NAU YEUK) two nights ago held a charity premiere. The Malaysian director Jess Teong and the two child actors Sarah Tan and Jayson Tan came from Malaysia to attend as well. Ti Lung's wife Tao Man Ming, son Shaun Tam Chun Yin and daughter in law, Melvin Wong Kam Sun and wife Angie Chiu Nga Chi showed their support as well. The film reminded everyone not to neglect family while focusing on making money. Suen Huen said that she was moved to tears earlier at the Malaysian premiere. Ti Lung pointed out, "I started to have farsightedness. I realized that I would get tired and hurt from climbing the stairs. I have to cherish those around me even more." Later he also praised his on screen daughter Suen Huen. "Making a movie with her was a pleasure. She is a fellow dog lover so we have something in common." Suen Huen's most memorable Ti Lung film was A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON SIK). Ti Lung was overjoyed when he mentioned his granddaughter. "After my son became a father, he has become more stable. When my granddaughter wasn't one yet, she would cry when I picked her up. Now she is much better. She would fall asleep in my arms. I am very happy." When asked if she had any suitor, Suen Huen changed the subject. "Don't talk about that, let's talk about the movie." Then she revealed taht Brother Lung had to slap her in one scene. "Brother Lung had experience, during the shoot I wasn't worried. After the shoot he told me to relax, anyone he has hit has become famous. I told him to hit me a few more times." Ti Lung joked, "I have hit the Four Great Heavenly Kings, Chow Yun Fat, Jackie Chan, Huang Xiaoming, after I hit them they were all very famous. So I told her to relax, after I hit her she would become red hot." * (2016/04/20) Rising film industry star Jacky Cai Jie in the film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING) played a top actor who always thought that she would become a new film's lead actress but the role went to Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) instead. Thus she was very upset at Sum Yau. She kept scheming with the paparazzi to ruin Sum Yau. The film had the show business side that few knew about and would make viewers smile from the heart. Although in the film she kept on bullying Sum Yau, Jacky admitted that on the set Sum Yau took great care of her. As a Sun Entertainment artist, Cai Jie lately had many film opportunities. In the Hong Kong Film Award major award winner PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) she played a lower class girl, for which she had to smoke and drink and behaved rather daringly. In the soon to be released MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR, she played a villain who used every trick to frame Sum Yau. "I prefer MY WIFE IS A STAR, a happy farce in which I would cheat to set up Sum Yau. However I am not evil to the core. I hope to be able to work on more comedies. I would be OK with playing ugly in the movies because this time I needed to be 'dirty' too. Working with different co-stars, I was able to learn different things. For example Sum Yau was a surprisingly realistic actor. She normally would be very peaceful, but as soon as she took her place her energy seemed endless and cried whenever she wanted to; Pakho was the same way. So I also asked them for advice. In addition this time director Yung Sau Lan was a female director. She was very able to take care of the actors' emotions like a big sister. She often chatted with us." Cai Jie studied directing at the National Chi Nan University, a student of famous actor Zhang Tielin. After graduation she went to study creative media at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 2013 she competed in the Miss Chinese International pageant and won the Most Popular with the Media award. However she did not sign with TVB. Instead she returned to Australia to finish her creative media bachelor's degree. After graduation her friend Pang Ho Cheung invited her to film ABERDEEN (HEUNG GONG JAI) and she got into the business. In her first film she had a bed scene with Best Actor Eric Tsang Chi Wai and left a deep impression with her daring performance. Despite her mild mannered appearance she actually was very opinionated and was not a little woman at all inside. "I have liked film since I was little, but I never thought about getting into the business as an actor. Because I have had eczema since childhood I didn't even dare to bare my legs not to mention my back. I knew director Pang Ho Cheung for a very long time too. I knew that he had quite a headache with finding an actor. Since he gave me such an important task I had to do my best. Actually I only bared my back, I was fully protected in front. The director's shot looked very pretty. However for now I wouldn't be topless, so I admired (Candy) Yuen Ka Man for her courage. Now I am also writing scripts in hopes of directing one day and making my own scripts into movies." * (2016/04/19) The Emperor Motion Picture distributed Malaysian film THE KID FROM THE BIG APPLE (NGOR LOI JI NAU YEUK) will open in two days. Ti Lung starred with two child actors Sarah Tan and Jayson Tan. Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen) was a special guest star. Jess Teong directed and Stanley Law produced the film. Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) through the film promoted the message of family, love and care of building interpersonal relationships. Ti Lung in the film played a very serious and conservative grandfather who lived in Malaysia. His daughter Suen Huen in her youth already left home and became a single mother in New York to daughter Sarah. Due to work Suen Huen could not take care of her alone and sent her daughter Sarah back home to Malaysia. Ti Lung was forced to take care of his granddaughter. Because Sarah came from New York the cultural difference was enormous. Big Brother Ti Lung with his conservative traditional ideas of course could not tolerate her. Little details of life like having potato chips instead of an actual meal upset Ti Lung half to death. The film also had a group of local child actors who became Sarah's friends later in the film. Jayson Tan played a very likable one. Always behaving like a hero, Big Brother Ti Lung had it even worse this time than his A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON SIK) former mobster turned taxi driver, because the children made him dizzy. Basically in the film Ti Lung worked with the children for 90% of the shoot. He joked, "It seemed even tougher than when I made action films, I spent a lot of energy!" The children were rather excited and all said that they really liked to act with Big Brother Ti Lung. Ti Lung said, "Actually being with children isn't hard, I already had experience. Although my energy is spent very quickly, I was happy and the shoot was rather pleasant." Suen Huen who left her daughter for her father to raise while she worked alone in the Mainland joked that she became the accomplice. Because she did not have much scenes with the children, after giving a child to Big Brother Ti Lung to take care of she joked that she felt a little sorry. However now seeing them harmonious like a family, she felt very envious. * (2016/04/19) Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Elaine Kam Yin Ling, Catherine Chau Ka Yi, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi) and Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik yesterday attended the film based on a play of the same title 29+1's production start ceremony. The film was about women stepping into the age of 30. The 30 year old Chrissie said that she was very sentimental about making the film and even stated that she really wanted to date. Yun Yi who also wanted to date just as badly joked that this year she will have to be in three wedding parties. Would she think about getting married? She hoped to find someone who would make herself happy. "In this business I always have to make people happy, I want to have someone to make me happy." Would she date to find someone to marry? Chrissie said, "Before I was 30 I was pretty scared, but when I reached 30 I felt it would pass. I want to tell people that I am still very young and radiant. I really want to find someone who understands me." They stressed that they were single and welcomed suitors. Yun Yi said, "I love roses and peonies." Chrissie said, "The more suitors the better." Kam Yin Ling revealed that in the film she guest starred as Chau Sau Na's mean boss. They would work together for the first time. She also liked new blood in the film industry. Kam Yin Lin earlier won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress with the film PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI). She said that her friends already took her to many dinners to celebrate. She also received gifts and lai see, which she was embarrassed to accept. How did her companion Suzi Wong celebrate with her? She said that Ah So invited a group of friends to dinner. She also bought over 100 tickets to take her friends to the movie. Has she celebrated with her daughter? Kam Yin Ling said that her daughter was in London, but asked if she thanked her during her acceptance speech. * (2016/04/18) Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Michael Tse Tin Wa, Chin Ka Lok, Jordan Chan Siu Chun and Jerry Lamb Hiu Fung two nights ago performed their concert in Beijing. Cheung Ka Fai and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with KEEPER OF DARKNESS (TOR DEI KUI MOR YUN) and LITTLE BIG MASTER (NG GOR SIU HAI DIK HAU JEUNG) won Favorite Hong Kong actor and actress. Because Chin Wa was absent, her five little co-stars from LITTLE BIG MASTER accepted the award on her behalf. The 2015 My Favorite Film Goddess went to S FOR SEX S FOR SECRET (SIU JEH YAU SUM)'s Lau Sum Yau. The New Actor award winner Lin Si Nga performed. Ka Fai after accepting the award said, "Maybe everyone feels that my character Wong Wing Fat is happy to help others, mild in his handling of matter and makes people feel comfortable so I won! The Mainland seems to be able to download KEEPER. I heard the response has been great, which makes me itching to make a sequel." Ka Fai said that since he got into the business, he constantly had many ideas that usually did not come to fruition. However he had many story ideas in his head, with scripts and investors he would make them. Earlier Ka Fai at the Hong Kong Film Award got up when Raman Hui Sing Ngai thanked editor Cheung Ka Fai. Ka Fai explained that he was only trying to lighten up the mood. He also knew Cheung Ka Fai. Once he got a producer's call. He said that he had to pay him the rest of his salary but when Ka Fai did not understand he hung up. Ka Fai joked, "I should've just directly given him the bank account number." Sum Yau said that she has never thought about directing. Instead she wanted to edit. "Because I can edit the film into a different story, I can control the ending to be a tragedy or a comedy. Now I am learning to edit." Ka Fai joked, "Editing has a Cheung Ka Fai too, he won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Editing!" * (2016/04/17) On the Beijing International Film Festival opening day, the Hong Kong Film Award Best Directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching directed police film COLD WAR 2 (HONG JIN 2) cast appeared in costume for the press conference. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Charlie Yeung Choi Nei, Janice Man Wing Shan, Chow Yun Fat, Tony Yang, Wu Yue, Fan Zhibo attended. Kwok Fu Sing led the Hong Kong police force in appearance and made his presence felt, leading to screams at the venue. COLD WAR 2 will officially open on July 3rd. As the leads shared the stage, the event even unveiled a group of character posters. Reporters asked why Fat Gor wore "ankle baring" pants again. Fat Gor said that someone prepared them for him, he just did not turn them down. He even joked that he felt like Andy Lau Tak Wa in them and was not used to them at all. As long as everyone liked them though he was fine. At the event, Kwok Fu Sing and Leung Ka Fai not only wore police uniforms but the entire atmosphere was soaked in the film. Completely intense, the event displayed a feeling of a duel that was about to start. In comparison to COLD WAR, the character relationships in the sequel would be even more complex and the mystery even deeper. COLD WAR 2 was also the first on the opening ceremony red carpet. Fat Gor attended with Fat Soh but did not change his "humorous" style, flirting, joking, playing cute and taking selfies. Kwok Fu Sing was called the "handsome god" . He not only "stole" Leung Ka Fai's sunglasses to wear but also frequently gave evil grins. * (2016/04/17) BOUNTY HUNTERS was a recommended film of the 6th Beijing International Film Festival. The film's actors Lee Min-Ho, Wallace Chung Han Leung, Karena Ng Chin Yu, Tiffany Tang Yan, Jeremy Jones (Tsui Ching Hei), and Louis Fan Siu Wong attended the opening ceremony. Lee Min-Ho and Chung Han Leung were guests and introduced the films in competition for the Tiantan award. Korean star Lee Min-Ho introduced himself in fluent Putonghua on the red carpet. In addition he revealed that he not only learned his lines but also his best Putonghua was "idiot"! However when the host asked him to say some more complicated Chinese, he beg for mercy with the team. Ng Chin Yu dressed up for the event, but due to the remote location the wind was strong. Chin Yu admitted that she felt just as ice cold as if she was not dressed at all. * (2016/04/16) Artist Gregory Wong Chung Hiu yesterday with singer Gin Lee Hung Yi attended a fashion event. Wong Chung Hiu even provided image consultation for customers and Gin Lee, who presented the Best Customer Service award to her. Before getting into the business Wong Chung Hiu once worked sales at a friend's store and folded jeans. Normally he would give his opinions to his girlfriend Christy Lai Kei Kwan about matching clothes. He even said that he would not mind her wearing something sexy, swimsuit or lingerie for work. "Her figure is OK; she is young too, she can try more. After the (pseudo) model wave passed, she wouldn't be dirty or excessive. She would be healthier." Now Lai Kei Kwan is busy with her final year at the university. After graduation she would be working full time. Wong Chung Hiu would be busy with the film that he will direct in July, THE SINKING CITY (SAI FONG GIK LOK: JOK GA DIK FONG YIN). He said that he would not ask his girlfriend as he was afraid of conflict. "If she wouldn't perform well, should I yell at her or not? For intimate scenes, professionally I would want to be more passionate, which personally wouldn't be too good. I would wait until next time." * (2016/04/16) Annie Liu On Lai, Louie Castro (Ga Si Lok),Yvonne Lam Yi Kei, Belinda Yan (Ngan Chi Fei), Monnie Li Mei Kei two nights ago attended a film special screening. Liu On Lai's organization Will in Action supported this event. She said that her association was not considered large scale and did not have much resources. Often she had to ask friends to help. "The film is about the pain of losing a loved one and climbing out from the bottom. The message is exactly what our association wants to promote, so we definitely would support it." Her friend Kwong Jor Fai has passed away for awhile. Liu On Lai stayed in touch with his family and learned that they had no problem financially. Now Kwong Jor Fai's eldest daughter was studying overseas, his second and third daughter were working in Hong Kong. Did the current Mrs. Kwong move back to the Mainland? Liu On Lai helplessly said, "Yes, she was a month away from getting her Hong Kong identification card. Because of the Mainland, when the husband passed away the application would cease. Thus Mrs. Kwong had to return to the Mainland after her visa expired. In the future she will come to Hong Kong with ordinary travel visa, but Shenzhen is very close. I definitely would take care of them." Yan Zi Fei in the film TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG) had a kiss scene with veteran stage actor Ben Yuen Foo Wa. She revealed that it was her first on screen kiss. At first she was not open and natural enough and had five to six bad takes. Her first shoot was this scene. Because it was at night she worried that she would keep everyone from getting off work, so she had a lot of stress. Yan Zi Fei revealed, "I wore two bras and a nude bra and box sealing tape. After the shoot I ripped off the tape and was all red. I had blisters and peeling. They hurt when I was showering. It was an experience with blood and tears. I only found out what I would be wearing after I got to the set, but they really did a good job and made me look busty. I knew about the kiss scene long ago. At first I was very happy and thought that I would have a kiss scene with my idol, but it wasn't. Siu Chai (Richie Jen) joked that it was very unfortunate and hoped that next time we would have a chance to work together. (Would you accept nude performance?) It would depend on the script, if it was added last minute it wouldn't be too good." * (2016/04/16) Famous director Andrew Lau Wai Keung yesterday held a personal collection exhibit at the Sunbeam Theater. Artists Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and Lo Hoi Pang were among the opening ceremony ribbon cutting guests. Cheng Chung Kei due to his drunken flight incident fell to his lowest in his career, luckily Lau Wai Keung pulled him back up and gave him the rebound; Director Lau, his wife and daughter also appeared. Director Lau said that he spent two years to prepare the exhibit and joked that he had to keep working hard on making money to find an even larger place to display his collection. The items on display included FROM VEGAS TO MACAU (DOH SING FUNG WON)'s "Silly Keung" robot, antique photography and movie cameras, guitar, posters, retro movie set folding chairs and all of Lau Wai Keung's awards including the Hong Kong Film Award and the Golden Horse Award. During the unveiling Lau Wai Keung's film industry contribution was praised. Lo Hoi Pang joked that he did not know why he was invited, perhaps the director wanted him to "check the mic". Cheng Chung Kei brought up how fortunate he was to receive director Lau Wai Keung's help after his drunken flight incident. Lau Wai Keung said that he spent two years to prepare the exhibit. Over the years he kept collecting various antique cameras in hopes of being able to open a film archive. He never got an estimate of how much his collection was worth. He only hoped to keep working hard on making money for an even larger scale personal exhibit. Would his children continue his work in the film industry? Director Lau said, "Both sons are studying film, but my daughter is studying psychology and has no interest in the business." Cheng Chung Kei gave an antique camera to Lau Wai Keung. He said that after his drunken flight incident, his career fell to its bottom. Luckily Lau Wai Keung pulled him back up and put him in BULLETS OF LOVE (BUT SEI CHING MAI), since then he became interested in photography. He said, "When Lau Wai Keung made LOOK FOR A STAR (YAU LUNG HEI FUNG) he gave me a lot of opportunities. Originally he wanted me to be the cinematographer, because at the time the actors were (Andy) Lau Tak Wa and (Sammi) Cheng Sau Man, I didn't dare to embarrass myself." Sunbeam Theater said that the exhibit was a test. Later even more directors would be invited to hold exhibits. Sunbeam hoped that its culture would not be limited to only Cantonese Opera as it planned to hold photography exhibits, book fairs and auctions in the future. Without any rumor, Sum Yau's empty love life got attention. If she had to be married in secret, she joked that she would need to consider whether she would wed. She longed to work for her career while she was single now even more. "I have no more fantasy about wearing a wedding gown. I probably would think about the opposite. Lately I participated in a dream wedding, I was happy for a woman who got her happiness. I wouldn't imagine that to be me though." Sum Yau played big star "Chu Kei", who went from a third or fourth tier artists who played prostitute A to an overnight sensation. Sum Yau luckily did not need to experience the tough climb. "I can understand how Chu Kei feels. Since she really wanted it she would learn to cherish it. I set my goals, once I reached my goals of course I would cherish them. Every process is very important." Pakho also thanked everyone for their love but he did not dare to be called a "god". "I have a lot of gods like Joe Odagiri and the Four Great Heavenly Kings." * (2016/04/15) The Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed short film CEMENT (SHUI NAI) was a part of the film GOOD TAKE! Did Derek ask his father Eric Tsang Chi Wai for directing advice? He said, "He didn't have any advice, afterward he would say a few things. Once he told people not to worry about whether I was his son, but as a producer he would want to work with me. I was very happy about that." Yanny was very happy to be able to work with Yip Tung on a film. She was a great role model. She said that she liked to make supernatural films more and more because the tension put her even more in character. * (2016/04/15) The Vicki Zhao Wei, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Wallace Chung Han Leung starred police film THREE (SAM YUN HUNG) yesterday held a Beijing press conference. However To Sir might have been taking care of Goo Jai, after a few takes they got off work while Goo Jai hit her all day! Goo Jai grabbed Chung Han Leung by the ear in one scene. Goo Jai kept yanking after grabbing his ear. After the shoot his ear began to swell. He joked that Goo Jai truly was acting in full force! The stage had three different props, stethoscope, bandages and handcuffs. Zhao Wei used the stethoscope on Chung Han Leung, after which she joked, "He is sick!" Chung Han Leung said that in the film handcuffs were his companion, so he wanted Zhao Wei to be in handcuffs. They also put bandages on the host's head! The team celebrates with a red wine toast. Winery owner Zhao Wei was asked if during the shoot she and To Sir exchanged their red wine knowledge. Zhao Wei said that To Sir knew about red wines as much as he did about filmmaking, so sometimes they would interact. She also gave some red wine for To Sir to try and received rare praised from him. She said that her parents instead of telling her to be more careful told her to "take more risks". She planned to study kung fu with Philip Ng Won Lung. * (2016/04/14) Cherrie Ying Choi Yi and Yumiko Cheng Hei Yi in their new film GOOD TAKE! performed in the same segment. Ying Choi Yi said that last time she planned to work with Yumiko on a movie but she was pregnant at the time. She stated that when she would produce a new film again she would work with her, and even suggested for Yumiko to sign with her as a child star. Yumiko immediately said, "My daughter has no time." Would Ying Choi Yi let her son become a child star? She said, "My son won't have time, forever. I want him to be the studious type because my family doesn't have one. Having one would be pretty good." Would they consider a match for their next generation? Ying Choi Yi said, "They aren't good friends. My son doesn't like her son because she is always taking my son's stuff. Anyway her daughter is very popular." * (2016/04/14) Michael Ning (Bak Ji) with PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) won the Hong Kong Film Award and the Golden Horse Award Best Supporting Actor. He supported domestic films as his first new film after his awards will be Z FOR ZOMBIE (GUM MAN DA SONG SI), based on a local writer Yu Yi's novel of the same name. The film will not only have people, places and events of domestic color but also zombie disaster. Bak Ji will be the lead actor and Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling the lead actress. GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI) director Clement Cheng Si Kit will produce. Most of the films would be gags that only Hong Kong people would laugh at. The one with the most grudge in the film was the corpse bride who asked for 1500 bucks in wedding gift. Bak Ji and Louis Cheung Kai Chung played drama academy's prop makers who worked together for their unique props zombie flying guillotine, twin egg waffle, folding chair windmill to fight zombies. Bak Ji will even fight for love! Bak Ji yesterday said, "I caught everyone's attention with a domestic film. Hong Kong has to have productions that belong to Hong Kong. Domestic productions whether in film and in play have a lot of outstanding talent. They only haven't run into good opportunities yet. As long as it is a domestic production and suitable I would definitely support it fully. This is a comedy, I hope to be able to bring Hong Kong joy and positive energy." Bak Ji was very happy to work with good friend Cheung Kai Chung. He said, "Ah Chung and I are already family, from school to now. I am very grateful for our mutual support. This time working with him will be great." * (2016/04/14) Zhou Xun, Eddie Peng Yu-Yan and Wallace Huo starred in Ann Hui On Wa's new film MING YUET GEI SI YAU (WHEN WILL BE THE BRIGHT MOON). Zhou Xun and Wallace Huo played a couple for the first time. In the film they gave up their romance due to war. Wallace Huo played a intellectual youth. He expressed on numerous occasions that Hui On Wa was his idol, finally he got his wish of working with her on a movie. Hui On Wa praised Wallace Huo as a hard working and serious actor. Not only his appearance was outstanding but he also had "talent within". His restraint, light aura was very suitable for the character. Peng Yu-Yan played a legendary hero "sharpshooter" Liu Heizai. For his character he got a darker tan and seriously studied the stronger inner world of that chaotic era. He was very emotional about being able to work with Hui On Wa and looked forward to being able to stimulate even more of his potential. Hui On Wa pointed out that Peng Yu-Yan was an all purpose actor who was able to play a sunny idol and an evil villain. * (2016/04/14) Director Fire Lee (For For) and Anita Chui Bik Ka yesterday promoted their new film ROBBERY (LO LUP) on Commercial Radio. For For admitted that he asked Chui Bik Ka to perform because of her figure. He also praised Chui Bik Ka for her great figure, pretty looks, very open performance without covering up. Chui Bik Ka said that when she just got the script she was a little nervous and did not know how far she would have to go. She also could not image the atmosphere on the set. She was not worried about being typecast as being sexy. She said, "It's just acting. In the future I want to make more new attempts, like television series and plays." * (2016/04/14) Korean star Lee Min-Ho, Wallace Chung Han Leung, Karena Ng Chin Yu, Tiffany Tang Yan and Jeremy Tsui Ching Hei starred summer film BOUNTY HUNGERS yesterday held a Beijing press conference. BOUNTY HUNTERS is not only Lee Min-Ho's first Chinese movie but also his first collaboration with Chinese actors. Lee Min-Ho stated that this film was his promise to Chinese fans. The press conference debuted the film trailer. Ng Chin Yu, Tsui Ching Hei and Tang Yan participated in a challenge. Ng Chin Yu had to challenge her quick wit with sarcasm. Tsui Ching Hei had to perform "wayward wealthy" in a funny way and cracked up the crowd. Tang Yan had to put everyone under her spell with a look that killed. The two leads Lee Min-Ho and Chung Han Leung had the ultimate task of "expression" challenge. Lee Min-Ho and Chung Han Leung had to look sad, cool, flirtatious, loving and naturally stunned together. They made poses and performed each character convincingly. When they played cute, they both stuck out their tongues and gave a victory sign. Lee Min-Ho even squinted with his smile. However for their loving side, Lee Min-Ho and Chung Han Leung looked awkward with a heavily ambiguous stare. Chung Han Leung said that because he played a drug enforcement officer in the film DRUG WAR (DUK JIN), this time as Ah Yo, a bounty hunter with an Interpol background and relied on his mind to complete the task was like a sequel. He also fulfilled a promise to himself with this performance -- to keep challenging himself and give the audience the best character and work. He also revealed that on the set, although Lee Min-Ho did not understand Putonghua he still worked hard to remember the pronunciation. By the first week he was able to rehearse in Putonghua with the cast professionally. Lee Min-Ho played Chung Han Leung's bounty hunter partner Lee Shan. He will show off his ability on the action side. In the film they were in life and death situations and had highly difficult stunts in the air, at sea and on land. During the group photo, Lee Min-Ho picked up a police baton but kept sneaking it on Chung Han Leung's neck. Chung Han Leung who kept changing his poses for press photos was surprised many times. Lee Min-Ho frequently laughed from his successful pranks. Working on his first Chinese film, Lee Min-Ho said that this was a promise between him and his Chinese fans. Since 2006 he promised his fans that he will bring a film to the Chinese screens so his fans would be able to enjoy his work at home. He said, "I know that I have many fans in Mainland China. In order to thank everyone, I took BOUNTY HUNTERS in appreciation of all the fans' support for me." * (2016/04/14) Alice Chan Wai, Bob Lam Sing Bun and Stanley Fung Shui Fan yesterday promoted the new film BUDDY COPS (GAING YING HING DAI) at the taping of the TVB programs BIG BOYS CLUB. Although the film was completed 4 years ago, due to Mainland inspection and post production special effects the film will not officially open until next week. Fung Shui Fan joked that he already forgot about the story and only remembered that he played a retired cop. Bob admitted that he benefited a lot from working with him. They even had many way to rehearse. He said, "His collaboration with (Eric) Tsang Chi Wai can't be topped. He was able to handle mutual improvisation. Watching them act I had to hold back my laughter. For comedy I truly have to become his disciple." Chan Wai revealed that she, Angela Tong Ying Ying, Skye Chan Sin Yeung played cops in the complaints department but they only had their minds on dressing up. When asked if she had any sexy costume, she said, "In one musical scene I had to wear a Lolita costume. It was so low cut that I didn't know where it ended up, and I had to wear stockings." Bob even revealed that he would appear in a S and M costume. He said, "When I saw it myself I thought it looked rather twisted, before taking my mark people already gave me a purple nurple." * (2016/04/14) Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin two nights ago attended the film GOOD TAKE! premiere. Speaking of her dating rumor with restaurateur Chiang Hiu Fan, she helplessly laughed, "I already responded, we aren't. We have known each other for a long time. I am single. Please stop asking me about my love life endlessly. If you have anyone in mind just directly introduce them to me, writing about me is useless. I have met new friends, but for now I haven't had any room for development." Was she already ready for the next romance? She said that she did not know because she still has not run into anyone suitable. As for rumors with Cheng Chi Bong, she appeared upset. "A lot of information is false. Cheng Chi Bong and I were classmates. We have known each other since Form 3, for over 20 years." Did he often appear at her home? Ah Sa answered, "No, I completely don't know but I would talk about a romance when I have one!" When would she publicize it after having a romance? She said, "I would when I get married! I have go legit for a long time. I already changed five years ago, but you are still judging me?" * (2016/04/14) The film GOOD TAKE! two nights ago held its premiere. Producer Eric Tsang Chi Wai, actor Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung with his girlfriend Venus Wong Man Yik, Michael Miu Kiu Wai and wife Jamie Chik Mei Chun, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai and Cherrie Ying Choi Yi attended. Chi Wai said that this time he had to help with looking for actors and had a tougher time. During the shoot he gave the directors free rein, the result of which the directors had to bear as well. However everyone was very obedient and did not go over budget. As for the segment his son Tsang Kwok Cheung directed, CEMENT (SHUI NAI), Chi Wai said that it was OK. He knew that many people liked it and it let him make the horror film that he wanted to make the most. However he never thought about pushing his son to work behind the scene because he already had many friends' help. Peter Chan Ho Sun will also produce for him. Today is Chi Wai's 63rd birthday. He said that celebrations already began at the start of his birth week. He has been drunk for the past few nights, but he said that this year he would not make a big deal. Two nights ago after the premiere the team held an after party for him. Last night he had a vegetarian banquet. Today he would celebrate with a group of friends. Later he will fly to Shanghai, Dalian and Qingdao for internet series and films and will work with a Korean team. Will they be used against TVB? Chi Wai joked, "Television will be behind the times soon, everyone bond a little!" After enjoying the film GOOD TAKE! the actors went to celebrate in Lan Kwai Fong. Due to the large media coverage, many tourists and party people looked on to stargaze. Birthday boy Tsang Chi Wai even waved to the crowd. Tsang Kwok Cheung and girlfriend Wong Man Yik arrived hand in hand. He said that because it was not his father's actual birthday he did not bring any gift. Wong Man Yik also said that she had to think about what gift to buy. Kwok Cheung immediately said that they would get one together later. Tsang Chi Wai, Miu Kiu Wai and his wife, Cecilia Yip Tung, Bak Leung Gum and his son, Donna Chu Kit Yi, Michael Wong Man Tak, Janet Chow Ka Wai, Annie Man Chung Han, Cheung Kwok Keung and Lau Shek Yin last night attended a temple restoration charity banquet. Chi Wai revealed that this was already the third year he raised fund for the Nanjing Dingshan Temple. The goal every year has been HK$ 5 million. He has raised money for other temples for over a decade and they would take place the day before his birthday. His friends from the art and Buddhist world would come. He would wait for his friends to bid on their favorites and hold on to the rest of the items. Would he celebrate more last night? He said, "No, I had to be vegetarian at the mouth and in the heart. I have to take a break because I have been drunk for seven full days. Last night I was still fine enough to get into the vehicle, but when I got home I slept in the garage!" As for his actual birthday, Chi Wai revealed that he will celebrate with his golfing friends. Tomorrow he will return to work in the Mainland. His birthday wish was for his friends to have good health! Chow Ka Wai and Man Chung Han were already mothers, so they said that they would not participate in Chi Wai's birthday party as they tended to be too extreme. Since they had children they could only have Happy Friday. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, APRIL 20 2016, FAILED MAN THE TRUTH OF AV (2) Many people who do not understand would always feel that adult video is purely a vulgar tool of release that is taboo, looked down upon and even insulted. Even men who are its users still have a lot of bias! Men watching AV is already as common and simple as people eating, especially in today's world with its information overload. Anywhere online you can find a variety of information and videos. Yet even when it is so common, most people still have a lot of misunderstanding of it. The most frequently seen is AV does not need a story! This is a wrong beyond wrong misconception! Earlier in a newspaper even a columnist wrote that AV is a pure action film that does not need any story, like watching Jackie Chan or Donnie Yen Chi Tan all you need is fighting. The story is only a side dish! As Far Reaching As The Sea After reading it I just laughed it off. The person who wrote this column definitely was not in the know, how dare he still talk about AV! The most important in AV of course is the girl's figure and appearance, the second most important is the story. This involved what the location is, what the lead actress wears, and the motivation behind her action! Everything is very important. As that writer said, when you watch Jackie Chan and Yen Chi Tan their fighting alone does not make a movie entertaining. Why they fight and who they are fighting as is also very important, otherwise why would IP MAN be a big surprise hit, why would Jackie Chan's POLICE STORY be so entertaining? The reason is very simple, because the audience can get into it and relate. They can imagine the lead's fight as their own fight! In the same manner, when watching AV films, the most important is being able to imagine. When a girl is not wearing any clothes and purely in intercourse, it is a nature film. Yet if she is a nurse, a teacher, a student, an office lady then she becomes a living person. Sometimes she could be a special effect heroine, soldier, Star Wars character or even the blue AVATAR alien, the space for imagination is as far reaching as the sea! This does not enable people to strengthen their imagination and experience, sometimes they would even be inspired and train their imagination. Its educational value is deep! Thus in Japan, AV has a very wide range of topics. Some of its imagination truly can enlighten people. It has everything weird and odd, personally I prefer the prison escape series. Either female actors escape or male actors escape to residential homes, break into people's houses and mess with girls; the classic Kichiku series (hidden camera extortion), female fox series (special agent undercover), South Pole II (female robot), husband's boss and other subjects that are already existing production line topics. Many odd and mischievous subjects that have nothing to do with anything would be involved, but of course the odder it is the more hardcore it is. Many would give people indigestion or even make them nauseous. So I would not recommend those! Choosing a subject and an actress that is suitable for you is not easy. Many feel that any AV, as long as the actress works and can relieve the urge, is fine. Yet actually that is not necessarily true. Each actress has a subject she excels in, anyone would does not care about actress names and series would only have vulgar desires. Enjoying AV through the "heart" experience is the most heartwarming comfort for yourself. Among numerous actresses in the AV worlds, actresses with several years of experience would have their personal uniqueness, personal style and specialty. Many people do not understand why Japan's AV actresses are like stars, because this is a culture, an art, not just purely targets of release. When you look down on other people's craft and culture you are the one who is superficial, the other people are not the ones who are deranged and excessive! - Derek Kwok Chi Kin JOURNEY TO THE WEST 1.2 Billion Box Office Director, Figure Collector 2. APPLE DAILY, APRIL 17 2016, GOOD FILM STYLE POST 80 HOT BLOODED DIRECTOR'S DARING FILM WEEDS ON FIRE: HOUSING ESTATE KIDS RISE A new wave of film new wave is on its way. A group of new directors' films continues to arrive. Catching eyes in the next round will be the 27 year old Chan Chi Fat directed film WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO), a baseball movie with a housing estate kid story and Liu Kai Chi lending his hand. At the same time Chan Chi Fat is shooting the ViuTV series with Lo Hoi Pang and Irene Wan Bik Ha. His career has been smooth sailing just like an inspirational Korean series. Behind the rainbow, Chan Chi Fat and his girlfriend of 4 years broke up. Break up always happens after the production begins, the reason simply and directly is just "wanting to part". Not having enough money to wrap up production, should the pain of begging people for work be shared with you too? - HO WING NING Tentative Summer Release Recent releases like TEN YEARS (SUP NIN) and TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG), all have subjects that may be domestic or extreme. Their commonality is that a group of young new directors made them, with the style that the New Wave film directors like Tsui Hark and Ann Hui On Wa started. The 27 year old Chan Chi Fat won the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau's First Feature Film Initiative and completed his first film WEEDS ON FIRE. The film through a 80s Hong Kong Japan baseball game that few knew about told a story about a group of housing estate kids in an inspirational yet hot blooded manner. Although baseball was an alternative sport, at test screenings and the Hong Kong International Film Festival every show was sold out. Earlier director Chan Chi Fat attended a Tai Koo screening. With long hair he looked a little like the Japanese baseball manga creator Mitsuru Adachi. Chan Chi Fat was asked about the common subject as the earlier Wei Te-Sheng produced Taiwan film release KANO. He explained that WEEDS received financial assistance as early as 2012. He only learned about KANO from the newspaper. He said, "I came from a housing estate, I really wanted to make a story of a housing estate kid's regret. During research I saw the news about Sand Martin Bridge in Sha Tin, which had a story about a Hong Kong Japan baseball game. Wow, the Sha Tin District Officer at the time was (Donald) Tsang Yam Kuen." Girlfriend Cannot Take Anymore And Calls It Quits Chan Chi Fat studied film at the Baptism University, received his university professor's recommendation to compete and won HK$ 2 million of fully government funded investment. He even asked director Chan Hing Ka and veteran cinematographer O Sing Pui to produce. Since then he started the creative road of no return. "Creating is lonely, and real characters can very easily interfere with creativity. I had to throw out a lot that I thought up before, very little truly remained. Actually during research, I couldn't determine whether a lot of the information was good or not. Thanks to the guidance from the producers I knew what was useful and what wasn't." After more than half a year of self exile style draft writing, the film finally started production. On the second day his girlfriend of 4 years suggested a break up. "She didn't really have any reason, she only told me on WhatsApp 'Want to Break Up'. Actually I could feel and guess why, for over half a year of creating I was completely shut in. I neglected a lot. Actually the girlfriend has reflected that, I knew she couldn't take it. However I personally was obsessed and didn't care about anything else." The film still had to be made. Chan Chi Fat even quit his job to focus on making the film well. However the HK$ 2 million had to handle 40 scenes, over 10 were action scenes. He said, "For many posts I relied on one veteran with a group of students. Many people were not only under paid, some were even no paid. I even had to dig into my own pocket. For a period I couldn't take it and thought about quitting." After all that the film at many screenings were sold out and received good word of mouth. Because the film was full government funded, its distribution right had to be decided with opening bidding. He said that the moment when the film was released he felt like he was in another world. Invited To Make ViuTV Series Chan Chi Fat switched halfway to study film. He worked at TVB and recently received ViuTV's invitation to make a series with Lo Hoi Pang and Irene Wan Bik Ha. He said, "The story was based on a Nam Fong Mo Tang story. ViuTV's current series MARGARET AND DAVID is also his work. The story takes place in a pawn shop. I really want to thank ViuTV for trusting me, earlier at the big station I only shot promotional films and edited music videos. Soon after finishing WEEDS ON FIRE they asked me." He felt that the advantage of "working" for ViuTV was they dared to try. He joked, "You know how much they dare to try new things and how daring they are when they dare to ask me. This television station has a very high degree of freedom, I also have the guts to try. This is my first television series as the director. I hope I can be more domestic, so the audience can relate." Real Story: 80s Shatin Martins Baseball Team WEEDS OF FIRE received government financial assistance for production. The story was based on the first Chinese youth baseball team in Hong Kong in the 80s -- the Shatin Martins. In 1984, Hong Kong's future changed. At the same time a youth baseball team in Shatin also experienced drastic change. Ah Lung and Little Wai grew up in Sha Kok Estate, one was cowardly and the other valiant. They were like brothers in the Estate as well as band 5 secondary school classmates. They perfectly interpreted the fate of losers. Because Headmaster Lo's appearance, everything was changed. Headmaster Lo in order to change bad students decided to form the Shatin Martins baseball team and recruited Ah Lung and Little Wai. Sometimes with reverse psychology, sometimes hellish training and the lure of international competition he made this group of students who easily quit persist. In the end they completed the impossible mission. Shatin's Sand Martin Bridge was also named after the team. Focus Recommendations: Four Must See Scenes Estate Nostalgia Director Chan Chi Fat again projected the Estate Nostalgia onto the two male leads. Hong Kong's estate patio could be the training ground of basketball and soccer. For baseball the square patio was like the bases. The two male leads kept running around the four corners for endurance, bringing about the appearance of this alternative sport in Hong Kong in a familiar setting. Wu Chi Tung kept making fun of Lam Yiu Sing while running as "wasted wood", "no air", which created a dramatic effect in the end. Inspirational Headmaster Liu Kai Chi took a group of students running to train their endurance. When they ran to Tao Fong Shan in Sha Tin, a student out of extreme exhaustion tossed out, "Who told you to be poor, tough it up" and led all the students to shout as they ran. At this time Liu Kai Chi suddenly stopped, after slapping everyone he said, "Do you think you are really poor? When even you look down on yourself, who would look up to you." This was based on the real Headmaster Lo. Brothers In Arms Lam Yiu Sing and Wu Chi Tung were estate brothers in arms. The handsome Lam Yiu Sing was bashful, "a pitiful creature who couldn't get a single girl". Instead the ordinary looking wu Chi Tung with his way with words had girls running circles around him. Lam Yiu Sing was envious of his friend as a gap often appeared between them. However Wu Chi Tung never abandoned them and even encouraged him to make his feelings know to the objection of his affection Ah Ling on the day of the big game, thoroughly displaying their brotherly love. Inspiration To All After hellish training, the Sha Tin Martins successfully got into the final against the Japanese youth baseball team for the championship. Pitcher Lam Yiu Sing during a pitch was hit in the face with the ball. When everyone thought they had to forfeit, Lam Yiu Sing turned blood into sweat, pitched all nine innings with his injury and completed what was thought to be an impossible mission. 3. MING PAO DAILY, APRIL 17 2016, FILM WORDS INTRIGUING ROBBERY ROBBERY: Very Dark Oddity This week has two domestic Cantonese films, both are uniquely intriguing. The Fire Lee (For For, Lee Ka Wing) written and directed ROBBERY (LO LUP) is about a mysterious and thrilling night at a convenience store. The film is very dark and odd. Shop owner Lam Suet and female clerk J.Arie (Lui Sum Yu) run into wasted youth Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, old cake Stanley Fung Shui Fan, demon cop Philip Keung Ho Man, hottie Anita Chui Bik Ka, mob boss Eric Kwok Wai Leung, gay guy Edward Ma Chi Wai and bomber Ken Lo Wai Kwong. A series of robbery and murder ensues, in the end it even turns into a haunting ghost story. ROBBERY is very weird and absurd, wonderfully it puts Hong Kong's old, middle aged and young "garbage" and problem people in a convenience store. They are in the same boat, hurting but also helping each other ironically. This film was selected for this year's Hong Kong International Film Festival, a perfect companion to the opening Mainland bank robbery film CHONGQING HOT POT. Both belong to garbage adventures. (three out of five star) GOOD TAKE! Each Part With Its Own Merits Another Cantonese film GOOD TAKE! consists of segments from five new or fringe Hong Kong directors, but not as political as TEN YEARS. In addition it is not an authentic Hong Kong film because it is a Macau release with a Macau setting. Actually historically many Hong Kong films were shot in Macau. After the Hand Over Macau's gambling industry thrives and generously develops film. It even supports Hong Kong filmmakers to make movies there. This one is very Hong Kong. Eric Tsang Chi Wai is the producer and the production team is all Hong Kong. The five parts each has its own merits. The Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung directed CEMENT (SHUI NAI) is the most eerie. Cops Pakho Chau and Alex Fong Chung Shun investigate a case in the old building where Cecilia Yip Tung lives, as the film turns into a horrifying ghost story. The Henri Wong Chi Hung directed, Eddie Cheung Siu Fai starred THE BANQUET (HEI YIN) is a father and son slice of life in a divorced family. The Wong Chun directed GOOD TAKE features Lo Hoi Pang as a widowed aging veteran actor who performs a final thrilling "good take" in life. In the Yeung Long Ching directed THE SOLITUDES (BUT YUT DING), hot prostitute Cherrie Ying Choi Yi seeks revenge against mobster Sam Lee Chan Sam. It is very erotic and bloody. The finale is the Wong Ching Po directed, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Stanley Fung Shui Fan, Michael Miu Kiu Wai, King Kong, and David Lo Dai Wai starred WE ARE GHOSTS (HAK GWAI), a haunting comedy about a feud between unemployed filmmakers and real estate businessman. It is rather mischievous. I feel GOOD TAKE! is not bad, even more colorful than ROBBERY with even more stars. Why would it get the cold shoulder at the box office? Is it because its title is only in English and not Chinese and achieve the opposite effect instead? Perhaps because each segment is a different genre it has no unified selling point? Ultimately unless it is a Hollywood blockbuster, current Hong Kong audience's taste is very hard to predict. (two and a half out of five star) - SHEK KEI 4. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 16 2016, FILM AND TELEVISION MARKET TREND ZOOTOPIA ENDURES Last week although the Hollywood blockbuster THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER'S WAR opened, the top two at the box office were still Easter releases ZOOTOPIA and BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. ZOOTOPIA made HK$ 9.51 million in first place, over three weeks it accumulated HK$ 40.46 million and caught up from behind; DAWN OF JUSTICE made HK$ 6.55 million in second place, over three weeks it made H$K 59.84 million and was still the highest grossing film in the Easter slot. The new release HUNTSMAN made HK$ 4.78 million in third place in a last minute victory. This film will open next week in the U.S., who knows if it will be like its predecessor SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN with a good performance of US$ 155.33 million. Released a week ago, action film THE BODYGUARD (DUT GUNG YEH YEH) made HK$ 4.32 million in fourth place. Over two weeks it made HK$ 7.94 million, who knows if it will be able to break HK$ 10 million; new release TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG), a crime film that three new directors made, took in HK$ 3.27 million in fifth place. Even with the brand effect of producer Johnnie To Kei Fung the film is still unable to make any breakthrough. Among other new releases, MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN that made US$ 54 million in the U.S. only made HK$ 310,000 in tenth place. With advanced screenings it made HK$ 390,000, making it difficult to do anything; the adult animation that shone in various film festivals, ANOMALISA made HK$ 149,000 in thirteenth place; the Shakespearean adaptation MACBETH made HK$ 108,000 in seventeenth place. Shakespearean films with stars truly have limited draw in Hong Kong. In the Mainland, CHONGQING HOT POT enters its second week. Last week it broke through 171.72 million RMB in first place, over two weeks it made 312.08 million RMB in a decent performance; newly released Hollywood action blockbuster LONDON HAS FALLEN made 158.81 million RMB in second place. This film opened last month in Hong Kong and made HK$ 15.71 million; THE BODYGUARD made 126.86 million RMB in third place, over two weeks it made 294.36 million RMB and slightly less than CHONGQING HOT POT; ZOOTOPIA made 84.94 million RMB in fourth place, over six weeks it made 1,506,740,000 RMB with a lot of endurance at the box office; another Hollywood blockbuster DAWN OF JUSTICE made 54.48 million RMB in fifth place, over three weeks it made 610.02 million RMB. Among other new releases, the Shirley Yung Sau Lan directed Hong Kong film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR DIK LO POR SI MING SING). Pakho Chau and Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) starred in the film that made 900,000 RMB in fourteenth and got quite the cold shoulder; the Mainland film XUAN YUAN: THE GREAT EMPEROR starred Yu Bo and Cica Zhou Weitong and made 740,000 RMB in fifteenth place. - LAM KAM BO 5. APPLE DAILY, APRIL 15 2016, SOMETHING TO SAY WORKING WITH NEW DIRECTOR FOR SOMETHING NEW IN ROBBERY LAM SUET: DEFINITELY SUPPORT HONG KONG FILM Lam Suet has made countless Hong Kong films, from working with Stephen Chow Sing Chi early on in OUT OF THE DARK (WUI WON YEH) and GOD OF COOKERY (SIK SUN) to two years ago the Fruit Chan Gor directed THE MIDNIGHT AFTER (NA YEH LING SUN, NGOR JOR SEUNG LIU WONG GOK HOI WONG DAI PO DIK HUNG VAN) he had a part. Recently even the TV Most Ten Big Ging Cook Gum Cook Awards Distribution had a part for him, you could imagine how playful he could be. Lam Suet felt that the fun part of Hong Kong film was the ability to act recklessly and be subversive at will. With the rise of young directors recently, he shouted "I support HK films!" as he thought it was time for young directors to have more opportunities. - HO WING NING Hong Kong films lately have been raging. First came the award winning film TEN YEARS (SUP NIN), then the already released TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG) and coming soon will be MAD WORLD (YUT LIM MO MING), WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO). Their commonality was that they were all young directors driven, their subjects were domestic, fun and go as far as thy could with the wind. Hong Kong film productions had to of course be real. Lam Suet earlier promoted his Hong Kong film with a little cult flavor ROBBERY (LO LUP) with Anita Chui Bik Ka. Speaking of many young directors' Hong Kong film releases lately, Lam Suet stated it was a good thing. "Of course I support new directors, they would have some newer ideas. Actually it should be like this, with more Hong Kong films being made there would be more creativity. They talk about what past directors may not be able to. You have to give opportunities for them (new directors) to practice. If you ask me, you tell me how much (money) and I would come, I definitely support Hong Kong films." "Foul Language Is Very Common" Lam Suet joked that aside from making Hong Kong films, another director who could have him on beck and call would be Johnnie To Kei Fung. "To Kei Fung would say, 'You will come tomorrow'. He wouldn't ask if you could." Speaking of working with new director Fire Lee (For For) in ROBBERY, he said, "I can negotiate with new directors. I am not saying that I can't with old directors. For For likes to interact, so when you give him opinions it's even better. New directors also have greater room for imagination, they would add some social problems. Hong Kong films needs this motivation." He in ROBBERY played a convenience store boss and even had "foul language" in his dialogue. He joked, "Foul language is very common, a lot of people use it. Maybe I am more fluent and people remember me for it. A little foul language in movies isn't a problem, there is no need to make a big deal." Often working on videos for 100 Most, Lam Suet earlier at TVMost's 1st Top Ten Big Ging Cook Gum Cook Award Distributions shot an "not accepting award speech" video and received an enthusiastic response. Foul language was no problem for Lam Suet, but he seemed hesitant about participating again in the upcoming "Happy TVMost Birthday To Me" program. "Once or twice is OK, a little more positive and not too excessive. It should be about stuff that isn't related to artists because someone has to be responsible." Anita Chui Shows Her Asset Potential Chui Bik Ka in ROBBERY played a psychiatrist. Eric Kwok Wai Leung in the film was her patient and a mob boss with an uniform fetish. Chui Bik Ka has always been known as Chui Big Melon, known for her G cup. Yet her performance opportunities have not been as outstanding as her bust. She said that after 4 years in the business, she has guest starred in 11 films. The oldest was LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) and this year she had PG LOVE (PG LUEN OI JI YUN). This time in ROBBERY Chui Bik Ka had a role with more potential, but she still could not stop showing off. She did not mind. "This is an opportunity, with opportunity there is potential. I gradually believe that I would catch someone's eye. I am not afraid of being typecast." She said that this time she was the happiest about being able to work with a group of veteran actors, from whom she benefited a lot. "Aside from Brother Suet, Brother Gung (Stanley Fung Shui Fan) taught me a lot. He wasn't as serious behind the scene, very humorous." Hong Kong film recently showed a small sign of life, Chui Bik Ka joked that she grew up on Hong Kong film milk and was able to recount films like ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL and GOD OF COOKERY. She said, "I watched most on television re-runs, more Hong Kong film productions is good for us Hong Kong actors. We have more opportunities." She said that Hong Kong films could get very crazy, like ROBBERY it could be very cult and very fun. 6. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 15 2016, ASIAN FILMS THE JAPANESE CAT FILM TRANSFORMATION FROM NEKO SAMURAI This year's Hong Kong Film Award big winner PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI's facebook account has been in operation for months and distributed a variety of promotional posts. The post with the most attention and the best response was not about the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor or Best Supporting Actress, but the kitten Ah B that the murderer's neighbor kept. The real name of the cat actor was Siu Fa. Its average like count was ten times of the entire account, the popularity of the "cat star" could be seen. Under such a backdrop, the Japanese film NEKO SAMURAI -- A TROPICAL ADVENTURE will open soon, could it be considered a reflection of the an era? NEKO SAMURAI -- A TROPICAL ADVENTURE's original Japanese title meant "Southern Island Walk". This film originated from the 2013 television series NEKO SAMURAI, a story about an Edo era ronin swordsman Kyutaro Madarame and the white cat Tamanojo. Originally sent to assassinate Tamanojo, Kyutaro instead became Tamanojo's cat slave. Thus began the story of a man and a cat. This series started production on its television series and film at the same time. Despite the translated Chinese title had the word "appears", it was already the second film in the series. In the story Kyutaro and Tamanojo were just messing around all day. His mother could tolerate them no more and recommended Kyutaro for the job of a swordsmanship instructor. The man and the cat suffered on the road and even ran into mysterious ninja attacks. Finally the ended up on a small island in the southern nation. After the bandits captured Tamanojo it became a cat god and even ran into a handsome black cat prince...... Three Types Speaking of which, Japanese filmmakers might be people who love to make cat movies the most in the world. Over 100 years of Japanese film titles, over 200 had the word cat in its title. After removing the titles of films with characters that had cat nicknames, films that actually had cats numbered in over 100. During the silent film era, cat appeared in Japanese films as demons. Almost all cat demon myths that have occurred in ancient Japan have been adapted once. These cat stories were often connected to a power struggle with humans. "Transformed cats" (cat demons) did not avenge their dead masters. Of course, the Japanese traditional instrument shamisen used cat skin as material, which also gave the demon cat myths another point of entry. These cat stories actually were variations of ghost tales and were not "cute" at all. Although people in this kind of movies definitely were not cat owners. Perhaps they could be considered as alternative cat slaves? Entering into the modern society, Japanese cat film representative was I AM A CAT. The human world was looked at from a cat's point of view. Novelist Soseki Natsume's first book I AM A CAT was adapted to the silver screen twice, in the 30s and the 70s. With the writer's super high recognition in Japan (he once appeared on the 1000 yen bill), the novel that narrated with a cat in first person perspective was deeply popular. Because the cat was in first person, the "I" in the film was a cat so it became not as important since the camera's point of view replaced the cat. Films that used cat as a bridge between people like RENT-A-CAT had another style. Cats mostly served as "models" and did not need to "perform". The third type of cat movies was like the 80s KITTEN STORY, completely from the point of view of cats they used virtual method to enter into the animal world and sold the cute sides of cats and dogs. This type of movies were very popular in the 80s. For example KITTEN STORY was a box office champion back then. Modern Cat Slaves Back to NEKO SAMURAI, actually it was a mix between the first and the second type of cat movies. The Edo era backdrop and Tamanojo being seen as cat demon all had early "transformed cat" movie flavor, but the lead and the cat's interaction and the format that put the cat in the center were very modern. To me, this interesting part about this film series were the jokes that came out of the cat slave mentality more than the "lead" Tamanojo. Honestly in the internet age, various types of cute house cats (like maru that liked to be stuffed into a box), intimate street cats and the hundred cat run scenes could be seen at any time. We knew that under normal conditions what the interaction between cats and people would be like. In comparison, NEKO SAMURAI's Tamanojo more or less appeared dull. Kyutaro constantly carried it and it lacked any character...... the writer who did not feel anything for the white cat did not feel right. Perhaps how to make your cat protagonist more natural was a question that film and television creators who wanted to make cat movies needed to consider in an age of excessive internet cat videos. - HUNG KWONG 7. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 15 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH RETURNING TO CHINA'S CAPITAL MARKET Last week, Bona Film Group announced the completion of its privatization trade. Immediately it ceased trading on NASDAQ. Group chief Yu Dong planned to take the company public anew in the China A stock market. This decision and its operation symbolized the latest trend in the Chinese film market. Bona began trading on NASDAQ in the U.S. on December 9 2010 and became the first Chinese film company to be publicly traded in the U.S. The next year at the Shanghai Film Festival forum, Mr. Yu pointed out that he seriously studied the matter. The entire Asia including Korea and Hong Kong had no film and television company that was traded overseas. Because he saw the enormous future of China and its market of 1.3 billion people, he was confident to go public overseas. He even explained that the scale was also large. He might spend as much money going public in China as in the U.S., but one was in RMB and the other U.S. dollar. He felt that even so, trading overseas was well worth the effort. He even declared that in the next ten years the company would become one of the largest film and television companies in the Mainland. At the time Huayi Brothers chief Wang Zhongjun had the opposite point of view. He felt that foreigners could not understand Chinese companies. Their management might not be suitable for China (company). The State Administration For Radio, Film and Television was still better in understanding. Huayi Brothers went public in China and its stock prices could not have risen more. Instead Bona did not trade much in the U.S. market. After two years Yu Dong once revealed regret over comments over storming the NASDAQ back then. Last year, in an interview he said that going public in the U.S. was a mistake. MGM's bankruptcy reduced the captial market's interest in the film industry. Thus he planned to go public anew in China. From a film production perspective, Bona indeed was extraordinary and could rival Huayi and Enlight, but its market value was around 1/6 of the two companies (before privatization). The main reason was going public in different places. Bona's going public "mistake" lay with "not enough optimism" in the Chinese market development. It could not imagine how shocking the rate the box office rose at and the range the market opened. Conceivably other film companies did not have crystal balls either, they could not thought of the condition several years later. Only they made the correct decision due to other reasons. Foreign companies did not need to rely on joining Bona to enter the Chinese market. Co-production importing or like Warners working with Chinese companies were even more direct ways, if anyone was in a hurry they could even sell the companies to Chinese film companies. Thus, entering the Chinese film market through stocks became an indirect channel and had difficulty coordinating with the market's rapid growth. Bona's privatization this time was with Ali Pictures, Tencent, Fosun and other funding, which was a step in the right direction because the film industry was no longer in a grabbing turfs but headed toward an alliance era. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] 29+1 Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Catherine Chau Ka Yi, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi), Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik THE BRINK Can : Kong Sau Lit : Wild Beast d. Opening February 12 2016 at the Berlin Film Festival Opening April 7 2016 Trailer : https://youtu.be/ZsE97uwjkEo [ BERLIN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Hong Kong, summer 1997: while preparations are underway for the handover of the British Crown Colony to China, the underworld finds that it too must adapt to profound changes. With the opening of the border to China, new codes and mores make their way into the world of the triads – and those who don’t adjust their business models have already lost. A genre film from Hong Kong that chooses to set its story during those years of turmoil is tantamount to a double swan song. For these political changes also effectively spelled the end of an independent Hong Kong cinema that was admired across Asia. One of the few directors who has continued to defend and develop the genre is Johnnie To. By producing TRIVISA, To is flying the flag for three up-and-coming directors who tell the stories of three legendary gangsters of the period. This is not an anthology film, but rather an overlapping story of men who become victims of their own legends. As chance brings them all together one day in the same restaurant on the Chinese side of the border, rumours swirl that the three are planning a joint coup. In elegant fashion, hype and hubris lead to their downfall. (Christoph Terhechte) ROBBERY Rating : III Length : 902 mins. [ HONG KONG MOVIE 6 ] A young guy named Ping gets a job working as a cashier in the Exceed convenience store. At midnight, Grandpa goes into the store to buy bargain priced breads. Annoyed and offended by the store manager Fat Boss’ sarcasm and contempt, Grandpa stabs a pair of scissors into Fat Boss’ neck. All the people in the store–Yan who is just a passerby borrowing the toilet, Anita who is buying some condoms, Fat Boss, Ping and his co-worker Mabel are suddenly taken hostage by Grandpa in this bizarre incident...... Opening April 1 2016 Trailer : https://youtu.be/ZaLQtkAPIn0 [ CINEMA ONLINE MALAYSIA ] A retired bodyguard who is suffering from early dementia meets a young girl and befriends her. When the girl is threatened by a local crime lord due to her father's connection, the bodyguard must recall his long- forgotten skills in order to save the young girl. Opening March 23 2016 at the Hong Kong International Film Festival Opening March 31 2016 Trailer : https://youtu.be/W3kFD3nbEGo [ HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] Another variation on The Godfather and Johnnie To’s Election saga, The Mobfathers is a re-imagination of the genre with undercurrents of keen social comment. After spending time in jail, Ah Chat (Chapman To) is involved in the power struggle that takes place before the election of a new chairman in the triad society. Anthony Wong is the ever intimidating big boss that shines through the lenses of Herman Yau’s camera beginning from The Untold Story. PORT OF CALL Rating : III Length : 120 mins. Opening April 6 2015 at the Hong Kong International Film Festival Opening December 3 2015 Trailer: http://youtu.be/8WlHzaSeTus [ HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ] A teenage prostitute is murdered; her body cut up and flushed down the toilet, and her severed head thrown into Victoria Harbor. Director Philip Yung chooses to focus not on the crime or the investigation, but on the dead girl and her family, the cop and his family, and the killer who is without a family. The result is a genre-bender that progresses as it digresses, an atmospheric mosaic of human lives and actions that invariably get complicated, out of order and beyond reason, and with the characters firmly grounded in gritty and unforgiving reality. [ THE FILM CATALOGUE ] Jiamei Wang has moved to Hong Kong from Dongguan, China two years ago. Desperate to become financially independent from her mother and step-father, she ends up becoming a “compensated date”. Chi-chung Ting, a truck driver who had just been brutally dumped, finds Jiamei online. They communicate with each other via text message and become friends right away. They share their background stories, and talk about everything from love to hate, from life to death. On the day of the murder, Jiamei and Chi-chung finally meet in person. In the room, they play, indulge in ketamine and really enjoy themselves. Finally, they go to the bed. During sex, Jiamei tells Chi-chung she wants to die. Chi-chung squeezes her neck until she passes away. Ching Sir, in charge of investigating the case, is a quirky police officer. When he investigates a case, he often ignores the details of the case itself but rather researches extensively on the personality of the people involved. Although he already has enough evidence to charge Chi-chung Ting, he wants to get to know Ting and Jiamei Wang better. He wants to look at our times with his heart. What exactly happened? He wishes to find out the real reason behind the incident, to prove that human nature is not evil, to shine a light onto the darkness. ------ GLOBAL CHINESE MUSIC CHART For the week starting April 16 2016 15 WITH YOU AT HOME Can : Yau Nei Joi Ga Orange Tan (Chen Wai Tim) https://youtu.be/mMlSD6iPNSo 14 AVAILABLE Can : Ngor Ho Duk Han Joey Yung Cho Yi https://youtu.be/nq2Qoausw7I 13 LEFT HEART MATTER Can : Jor Sum Si Hanz Guo (Kwok Man Hong) https://youtu.be/eG6ZoRqkZQQ 12 HOW HAVE YOU BEEN Can : Bit Loi Mo Yeung Zhang Lei https://youtu.be/hzjqWThPgMw 11 HILLWOOD ROAD Can : Shan Lam Doh Kay Tse On Kay https://youtu.be/qqqFoC6nZ8k 10 BE MY OWN FRIEND Can : Dong Ngor Dik Ho Pung Yau Della Ding Dong https://youtu.be/OG5yCHnipdM 9 MAKE IT BIG Jane Zhang Liangying https://youtu.be/Sbw9ta5E8dU 8 EMOJI Twins https://youtu.be/s8AGDGamOXQ 7 FINALLY, BUT...
