MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/03/30) Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and director Shu Kei yesterday attended the Academy for Performing Arts forum "My Life as a Film Actor: Jacky Cheung in Conversation with Shu Kei", which played clips from many films of his career. Hok Yau even talked about how his wife May Lo (Law Mei Mei) changed his life. Shu Kei said that he promoted Hok Yau and his wife Law Mei Mei starred DEVOTED TO YOU (CHI SUM DIK NGOR). Hok Yau said that this film was very memorable. He could tell what was on the scene from just listening to the sound. The film even changed his life. "This was a very important training. Actually making a movie is really making a movie, if you treat it like real then you would have consequences. Then I knew. The first film I didn't know, I thought making a movie had to be very real. At the time I was still young, so it influenced my life. Now if you tell me to kiss 10,000 times I wouldn't dare to have anything happen. When the movie is over it is, no thank you. However the feeling at the time still can't be shaken off." Hok Yau with BULLET IN THE HEAD (DIP HUET GAI TAU)'s Fai Jai was nominated for the 1991 Hong Kong Film Award Best actor but lost. Hok Yau after watching the BULLET clip could not help but smile and said, "The performance was pretty good, if that didn't win I don't think I ever will." Later the event also played Hok Yau's Golden Horse Award Best Supporting Actor performance from THE SWORDSMAN (SIU NGO GONG WU). Hok Yau said, "Even I don't know why I won. I wouldn't look into it though. Actually whether I win or not it doesn't really matter." When the clip from JULY RHAPSODY (NAM YUN SEI SUP) with Hok Yau and his late friend Anita Mui Yim Fong, he dabbed away the tears from the corners of his eyes. Hok Yau also shared experience from his three films with Wong Kar Wai: AS TEARS GO BY (WONG GOK KAR MOON), DAYS OF BEING WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN) and ASHES OF TIME (DUNG CHEH SAI DUK). Hok Yau pointed out that when he met Wong Kar Wai, he was working on Jeff Lau Chun Wai's HAUNTED COP SHOP (MAN GWAI CHAI GUOON). He was a screen writer who constantly came over. So everyone would sit on the street and chat. Later when he became a director I offered my services. Then by DAYS OF BEING WILD their relationship changed. "In the film I had a very simple expression, which took 60 times. After that Wong Kar Wai said, 'let's call it' and walked away. I felt very uneasy. If when I met him he was a director, I would just submit. The worst part was when I knew him he was a friend. I couldn't separate that at all. 'Why would you treat me like this? Why don't you tell me which take was good?' I completely did not know, I started to feel the pain of being an actor. The space was very small. I wanted to perform, but when I did something I didn't know I didn't know what to do. This is the reason that later I worked with Wong Kar Wai less, but Wong Kar Wai is a talented and outstanding director." Having made many movies in the 90s, Hok Yau in 2000 suddenly reduced production. He explained that was because his first daughter was born and he wanted changes in his life. "Now I am 50, I don't want to be like before and pass through every stage of life pointlessly. So I reduced production, but I still get offers." Later a viewer asked which character was Hok Yau's favorite. He joked, "Now I am working on HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) of course I would say this one, because now I know how to drum up business." * (2016/03/30) The 35th Hong Kong Film Award will take place on April 3rd. Currently the program has already completed its production. This year's program cover still consisted of Best Actor and Best Actress nominees Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Tang Wei, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga), Karena Lam Ka Yun and Jessie Li (Chun Xia). Each nominees coordinated with the event theme of Child Voices, Same Acting and wore retro clothing. In addition. This year's "Professional Spirit Award" winner will be veteran lighting technician Chow Wing Kwong. He has made over hundreds of films. The Ng See Yuen directed THE UNWRITTEN LAW (FAT OI CHING) was the film that he was the most pleased with. In 2002, Chow Wing Kwong originally planned to retire, but his outstanding craft still had him working and active in the film industry despite his age of 78. * (2016/03/29) This year's Udine Film Festival yesterday announced that Hong Kong director, action director and actor Sammo Hung Kam Bo will receive its Lifetime Achievement Golden Mulberry Award. The event even arranged for the Big Brother Big Hung Kam Bo directed and starred film THE BODYGUARD (DUT GUNG YEH YEH) to premiere in Europe on its April 30th closing ceremony and to present the award to him. Before the film release, Big Brother Big received the good news from Udine Film Festival and felt extra excited. He also said that he was fortunate for his return to directing 17 years later to be able to break out of Asia and for even more people to enjoy. Although Big Brother Big was 64, he never talked about retirement. He still liked to direct. His endless energy was the best proof. Big Brother Big said, "Don't be afraid of people calling you old! Getting old is a part of life. From the day someone is born, from baby to growing up, everyday he is growing old. I am old, but I live happily; unless you have no chance to be old, then you can't grow old! Learning until you are old, living until you are old, these are parts of the life journey that I long for and enjoy the most." Hung Kam Bo was the Asian artist to be invited to the film festival and receive the Golden Mulberry Lifetime Achievement Award after Joe Hisaishi and Jackie Chan last year. His continuous mix of wuxia and kung fu in film, his creativity on the film screen are worth everyone's salute to his hard work and effort. * (2016/03/29) The comedy star of a generation David Lo passed away at age 71. Yesterday his funeral took place at the Po Fook Hill memorial Hall. Around 11AM the service moved to the Fu Shan Crematorium. The pallbearers included Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Wong Cho Lam, Cheung Sung Tak, Ting Yu, Cheng Kai Tai, god son Kam Kwong Sing and Lam Wan Chung, nephew Lo Chun Yin. Family and friends bid a sad farewell and David Lo vanished into smoke. When Mrs. Lo stepped out of the crematorium she was so heartbroken that Ting Yu had to give her a hand. She said to the media, "Thank you everyone!" Wong Cho Lam hug Mrs. Lo to console her. Chi Wai bid farewell to friends Fung Hark On and David Lo. He could not help but teary eyed. He lamented. "This year for some reason many friends left in March. Two are my good friends, one was in the wuxia film world and the other in the television and film comedy world. I always joke with friends, I used to always be the best man or groomsman, now I am in the funeral committee and pallbearer, as I grow older I wish that friends around me would be healthy. Many people say that going to funeral homes all the time is not good, but good friends are very rare. I have no taboo, I have to be happy in life. I have to see my friends one last time no matter what." Chi Wai revealed, "Two nights ago friends who started as stunt people caught up at dinner and wanted to see each other more, like Tsui Siu Keung I rarely see. he was the lead actor in my first movie." Chi Wai also learned from Fung So Bo that Brother Hark's wish was to remake THE CHUMS (TUNG LO TUNG BO). Chi Wai said that he would consider it and see if he could make it into an action film version. If he had the chance, he hoped to work on it with a group of stunt people. Cheung Sung Tak lost a good friend. He said that he has known David lo for years. "At the time he had a public relations company that frequently asked me and my brother to sing. The past five years we are even closer because we went to the same church. I studied theology so he would study the Bible with me. Later he asked me to teach in his classroom. I have my own classmate, basically I wouldn't teach at another classroom, but at the time I didn't even hesitate to work together because we could help a lot of people." * (2016/03/29) The Les Fanmily's first event will take place on April 2nd at the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition Center Rotunder 2. "Gor" fans will gather as "Gor Gor" Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's artist friends will share their memories and valuable footage. Leo Ku Kui Ke will also perform. Gei Jai earlier took time to return from Korea to rehearse and practice in preparation to attend "Gor Gor's" memorial event. He was seriously professional. That night he had to fly to work in Beijing. Gei Jai hoped through this performance to share his history with "Gor Gor" with "Gor" fans. In addition, the Les Fanmily in honor of its first event released a series of collectible memorabilia, including Les Fanmily logo pins, commemorative tee shirts, mobile phone chargers and posters. Les Fanmily hoped through these items "Gor" fans would forever treasure their beloved "Gor Gor". The proceed will be used for Les Fanmily events and "Gor Gor" memorabilia restoration so they could be properly preserved for even more "Gor Gor" fans to share. * (2016/03/29) The Johnnie To Kei Fung and Wai Ka Fai founded Milky Way Image earlier held its 20th anniversary banquet. Aside from its own artists, artist friends and film and television group bosses who have worked with them were invited to thank them for their years of support. To Sir also shared his own career highs and lows. In the future aside from making movies, he will continue to promote the film industry, discover and cultivate new director talent and extend the future road of the film industry! At the celebration, To Sir arranged for a live band to perform because with music divas like Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa on hand; also To Sir was one of the "mic kings" so everyone performed. At this "mini concert" To Sir performed first, then he with Sammi and Chin Wa performed together. He also sang to Lo Hoi Pang ZEN MONASTERY BELLS. Even Sean Lau Ching Wan performed with Wai Ka Fai. * (2016/03/28) The Liu Kai Chi starred film WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO) was based on the Hong Kong's first Chinese youth baseball team. Two nights ago a premiere was held. Playing a baseball coach, Uncle Chi worked with a group of new comers without any experience. The process had both pain and joy. He said, "Aside from me and Poon Chan Leung, most actors were graduates and new comers. They were very playful, enthusiastic and sunny. Unfortunately the production period was in the summer. It was very hot and the locations were remote. In addition the shoot needed multiple angles; he felt that he was getting older, the shoot needed a lot of energy so it was very tough. However, the baseball uniform was very beautiful and very cool, he too has fallen for this sport. They have a team but they won't let me play." Uncle Chi felt that this film was inspiration, through sports it promoted team spirit. He hoped through this film to spread positive energy to young people and encourage them to relieve their stress through sport. * (2016/03/28) Anita Chui Bik Ka in her new film ROBBERY (LO LUP) plays a doctor, but she still has a lot of sexy performance. Anita in the trailer appeared in sexy lingerie and even danced erotically. She revealed, "My doctor character not only can cure what ails you, but also sexually satisfy what her patient Eric Kwok needs!" Eric even had a daring scene in which he felt up Anita. He said, "I am not too familiar in this area, luckily I was inspired from a rehearsal with director For For (Fire Lee) before the cameras rolled. He played Chui Bik Ka and let me try! Anita worked very hard. I knew that she had a dance scene that she practiced many times for before hand." Director For For was rather pleased with the actors' performance. "Anita did very well with her emotional scenes, she put in a lot of effort!" * (2016/03/28) The Hins Cheung King Hin starred Emperor Motion Picture WE'RE THE WORLD (CHAN LAN JEH YUT HAK) will spread positive energy with a group of children. After the film production wrapped up, Hin Jai has been busy with the theme song A STEP A LOOK recording. Director Fruit Chan Gor even called in all the favors and asked Lowell Lo Koon Ting to create the music. The trio yesterday recorded together. Hin Jai saw the reporters and said that he was nervous. He also revealed that two days ago he suffered from severe insomnia. "It's the first time I work with Mr. Lo! I haven't had a producer for my song in a long time because I usually do it myself. Earlier I had the flu twice, the recording date was postponed time and again. Last night I went to bed at midnight, by 4AM I still wasn't asleep. So I went online to look up Mr. Lo's music!" Hin Jai "complained" that this theme song was not as romantic as he imagined. He immediately said to Lowell Lo, "When would you be able to write for me something as romantic as Lee Chi Ting (Aarif Rahman)'s ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW?" Lowell Lo said, "You will get the chance, let me finish my concerts first." He remembered to praise Hin Jai for being fully prepared. "He already knew a lot about things I talked to him about." In addition, speaking of his vehicle that a taxi crashed into, Hin Jai said that it took four or five days to repair. "Now it's just like new, finally I have a vehicle to use! (How much did it cost?) Over HK$ 5,000!" * (2016/03/28) Director Johnnie To Kei Fung earlier in a Mainland media interview mentioned the Stephen Chow Sing Chi directed film MERMAID (MEI YUN YU)'s outstanding Lunar New Year box office. To Kei Fung stated that the film was not entertaining, but at the same time praised Chow Sing Chi's rich creativity. "It's not entertaining at all. I am very direct, when I don't like it I don't like it. That's right, Chow Sing Chi is very successful. He is a very creative and capable person, but the film probably could have been much better." * (2016/03/27) This year is the 25th anniversary for director Wong Kar Wai's Jet Tone film company. Two days ago he attended the Hong Kong international Film Festival's IN THE MOOD FOR FILMS: 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF JET TONE FILMS forum and invited PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) director Philip Yung Chi Kwong to share some secrets about Wong Kar Wai's films few knew about. Speaking of the team of him, Christopher Doyle (To Ho Fung) and William Chang Suk Ping, Wong Kar Wai said that they had disputes before. "IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (FA YEUNG NIN WA) had Lee Ping Bing because To Ho Fung had to leave the team. At that moment I was mad, but overall I wasn't because that's how he was. He had no patience." Everyone thought that "Kei On" was director Jeff Lau Chun Wai's pen name, actually Wong Kar Wai used it as well. "I did most of CHINESE ODYSSEY 2002 (TIN HA MO SEUNG) because he mainly shot. I was responsible for the writing." As for when he would make a film with actual Hong Kong locations, Wong Kar Wai said that he was waiting for a moment that would "open his eyes". Lately Cheung Sha Wan has given him this feeling. He revealed that in the past each location had its reason. Sometimes he felt the place was fresh, sometimes he felt the place would soon be demolished. When everyone was concerned about Hong Kong films, he stressed that the definition of "Hong Kong film" had to be clarified. He disagreed that "Hong Kong Film" was only made for Hong Kong people. He said, "Hong Kong film has always been an exit, early Chinese people's only entertainment was film." He felt that filmmakers should not trap themselves in a frame and limit their creative space. * (2016/03/27) Shawn Yue Man Lok went to Japan to rest after a Mainland variety program. He ran into old friend Pang Ho Cheung on the streets and Ah Pang dragged him to afternoon tea. On the rare encounter in Japan, Ah Lok took the chance to ask about LOVE IN A PUFF 3. Ah Pang said that the soonest the production will start will be the end of the year. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Yue Man Lok have always looked forward to performing in LOVE IN A PUFF 3, but the schedule dragged on and on. Chin Wa said, "I hope to have my second child after I finish the third film, but this film has dragged on for so long. I am anxious to find out when it will start production." Yesterday Ah Pang said, "I still have some details to discuss with Media Asia. Once the negotiation is done we can sign the contract. Then I will immediately start preparation. At the same time I am still working on other films. Because many Mainland companies are asking me to make movies, I have to put them on my schedule." * (2016/03/27) The film LINE WALKER (SI TOH HUNG JEH) is still in production. The 2014 television series won the TVB "Best Drama", during its broadcast who was the 5th undercover agent became the mystery that the audience was hooked onto. The film will have a 6th undercover agent. A trailer was released earlier. The new additions are Louis Koo Tin Lok, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Francis Ng Chun Yu. Who is the 6th undercover agent is already being discussed. The film's director Man Wai Hung revealed that Sheh Si Man's character this time turned into an action superstar. Her comedy elements remained, and romance was Ah Sheh's strong suit. He said, "During the television series shoot Ah Sheh already told me to use her as much as I could. She not only had to be funny but also had romantic, family and friendship scenes. The audience also could not forget her performance. This time with the film I pushed Ah Sheh even further. I never guessed that her athletic genes were also decent. She personally performed many fight scenes with bruises all over. She had a lot of potential to be an action actress!" Man Wai Hung mentioned that the film will have a 6th undercover agent. Of course the audience would have to wait until the film release to find the answer. The film went on location in Brazil. The battle of brains and brawn between Koo Tin Lok, Cheung Ka Fai and Ng Chun Yu would become the selling point. * (2016/03/27) The 35th Hong Kong Film Awards will take place on April 3rd at the Cultural Center. This year's Best Actor and Best Actress competitions have been fierce. The five Best Actor nominees Andy Lau Tak Wa, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing have all won Best Actor awards before. Choosing one out of the five truly would give the voters headache. Best Actress Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga), Tang Wei, and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa have won before so their qualification was not in doubt. Yet Karena Lam Ka Yun caught up with the Golden Horse Best Actress award, new comer Jessie Li (Chun Xia) have won several awards in a row and her acting has been recognized. They thus become the favorites. As for Best Film, with 13 nominations the Philip Yung Chi Kwong directed PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI). With 11 nominations the Tsui Hark directed THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN swept numerous awards at the Hong Kong Film Critic Society and the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild awards to become the focus. However the based on a true story LITTLE BIG MASTER (NG GOR SIU HAI DIK HAU JEUNG)'s production sincerely moved all Hong Kong viewers. The Hong Kong Film Awards is the grandest annual event for the Hong Kong film industry. Before the awards industry insiders would test their individual mantle and vote for their favorites from a professional angle and personal level in hopes of being able to choose the fresh out of the oven Best Actor and Best Actress. Nominees Lau Tak Wa, Cheung Ka Fai, Cheung Hok Yau, Yeung Chin Wa, Lam Ka Yun, Derek Yee Tung Sing, Janice Man Wing Shan, Michael Ning (Bak Ji), Andrew Lam Man Chung, as well as Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Kay Tse On Kay and Gordon Lam Ka Tung chose their favorites and the Best Film was an overwhelming victory for LITTLE BIG MASTER, then PORT OF CALL. No other film was chosen. As for Best Actor, two nominees who have never won the Hong Kong Film Award Cheung Hok Yau (HEAVEN IN THE DARK) and Kwok Fu Sing (PORT OF CALL) received the most votes. In particular Hok Yau led Sing Sing with a larger percentage, but Sing Sing recently have won Best Actor at several Hong Kong and Mainland film awards. Both are popular and have a great chance to win their first Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. The top Best Actress vote getter was the Golden Horse Best Actress Lam Ka Yun (HEAVEN IN THE DARK), followed by Yeung Chin Wa (LITLE BIG MASTER). Ka Yun might be able to finally win with Cheung Hok Yau with the same film with her remaining Golden Horse Best Actress momentum. As for Best Director, filmmakers chose new director Yung Chi Kwong (PORT OF CALL). Tsui Hark (THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN) with his directing abilities received the second most votes. Best Supporting Actor Michael Ning (PORT OF CALL) had an overwhelming amount of votes, while Best Supporting Actress was a tie between veteran actresses Ng Yuen Yee (LITTLE BIG MASTER) and Elaine Jin (PORT OF CALL). With more and more breakthrough in his acting in recent years, Kwok Fu Sing again was nominated for Best Actor with PORT OF CALL. Playing a veteran cop in the film, Sing Sing has already received many Best Actor award. First he received the Rising Star of Asia at the New York Asian Film Festival last year, then he won the 1st Berlin Chinese Film Festival, YOUTH FILM HANDBOOK 2015 Top Ten Chinese Film Award and the 10th Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Awards Best Actor awards. With his fifth nomination, Sing Sing received votes from director Lau Wai Keung, Yeung Chin Wa, Leung Ka Fai, Bak Ji and other industry insiders. He has hope to win his first Hong Kong Film Award. Cheung Hok Yau with HEAVEN IN THE DARK received his 6th Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor nomination. He performed the pastor with two different sides convincingly. Even Best Actor Wong Chau Sun picked him to win. Although he was a favorite, Hok Yau had another view. "I have never had any expectation. I have been nominated five times and I haven't won yet. I believe in fate, there were definite reasons that I didn't win. Maybe my acting wasn't right for the jury's taste." Hok yau admitted that he picked PORT OF CALL's Kwok Fu Sing. Because Sing Sing earlier won the Film Directors' Guild Best Actor, his chances would be better. As for Best Actress, he picked his co-star Lam Ka Yun; not only because she was used to winning awards but also during the shoot he has witnessed Ka Yun's outstanding acting that had her crying on cue. KEEPER OF DARKNESS (TOR DEI KUI MOR YUN)'s director and actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai did not anticipate to win despite the film's decent word of mouth. "I am very afraid that the greater my expectation is the greater my disappointment would be. I have always numbed myself by telling myself that I won't win. Thus with each nomination I wouldn't have too much expectation. This time is the same, but from the moment that I learned about the six nominations I was already flowing on air." Claiming to be Cheung Hok Yau's "brother", Ka Fai joked that people would always be selfish. Although he has not seen HEAVEN IN THE DARK, he has seen the play that was just as attractive. He said, "Hok Yau absolutely had the ability to win Best Actor. As for Best Actress I pick Lam Ka Yun, she is both pretty and a good actress." As for his KEEPER performance, due to the different responsibilities he had to try to keep his mind on both. He was afraid that he would be distracted. As for the New Director award, Cheung Ka Fai admitted that of course he would be happy with an award. However he was a little conflicted. "This award seems to encourage a group of young new directors. Although I am called a director, I have over 20 years of film knowledge. If you give it to me of course I would be happy, but if you give it to a group of young new directors I would still feel happy." Lau Tak Wa was nominated with LOVE AND LOST (SUT GOO). In the film Wa Jai played a father who went on the road to find his son without any result. In order to bring the farmer character to life, he even deliberately exposed himself to the sun outdoors and even made his finger nails dark and rough. As a mother Tse On Kay praised Wa Jai for playing the parents' disappointment convincingly, leaving his usual Lau Wa image behind. Yet as for confidence to win, Wa Jai picked Hok Yau. Leung Ka Fai was nominated with THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN. He said that all the nominees were "masters". In addition his role did not have much screen time. Thus he picked PORT OF CALL's Sing Sing. Winning the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress in 2013 with LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING), would she win another with LITTLE BIG MASTER? Chin Wa took a wait and see approach. Instead she picked other co-stars. "I have seen several nominated films. They all performed very well. My pick would be Chun Xia. Her performance was great." Chin Wa fantasized about playing Chun Xia's character to see if she would be able to. She joked, "I am probably over the age limit so I can't." With nudity in the film, Chin Wa joked, "If I played it it would become a horror film. I might as well work on KEEPER OF DARKNESS 2." Without any expectation to win Best Actress, Chin Wa stated she hoped LITTLE will win Best Film because the entire process was very tough but very meaningful. She very rarely ran into a production with a good script and everyone had the same goal. As for Best Actor, Chin Wa has watched Kwok Fu Sing's PORT OF CALL and Cheung Ka Fai's KEEPER OF DARKNESS. She felt that both performed very well. Ka Fai's character was not as spotlight stealing as Sing Sing's, but he was able to express the lightness in the ordinary. It was very hard to do. Chin Wa picked Adrian Kwan Shun Fai for Best Director. She described him as working himself into a bucket of tears. "From seeing him accept the job, starting the production, completing and promotion it, he cried for half a year and made me very touched too. I hoped that he would be able to win. I support my own director." For Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Chin Wa picked Bak Ji and Ng Yuen Yee. Cheung Ngai Ga with OFFICE (WA LAI SEUNG BAN JOOK) was nominated for Best Actress. As for her confidence, she felt that as an actress doing her best was her job. Whether she would win or not it would depend on luck. Chun Xia with PORT OF CALL was nominated for Best Actress and Best New Actor. Earlier she already won the Hong Kong Film Critic Society's Best Actress and the Film Directors' Guild Best Actress. Despite her momentum she had no confidence in winning the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress and would not give herself any pressure. Lam Ka Yun had hope to win Best Actress with her momentum as well but Ka Yun did not pick herself. With strong competition from Cheung Ngai Ga, Tang Wei, Yeung Chin Wa and Chun Xia, Ka Yun has seen all the film except Chin Wa's LITTLE BIG MASTER. Because she has not seen them all, she declined to pick a favorite but praised Chun Xia for her natural performance. As for Best Actor, Ka Yun said, "I know all of them, but I am definitely biased, biased, biased when I choose Hok Yau. I am really sorry, ha ha." HEAVEN IN THE DARK with Ka Yun's first film with her husband Steve Yuen Kim Wai as the director. If she won would it not be even more meaningful? Ka Yun said, "No, if I don't win this time, we would have room for improvement next time. If Hok Yau wins it would already be so good, to me it would be a huge present." Director Yee Tung Sing from a professional angle evaluated this year's nominations. For Best Film he felt PORT OF CALL, LITTLE BIG MASTER and THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN were all very event. However he believed that THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN would not get the voters' emotional votes as it should be given to a domestic film. However the Directors' Guild and the Film Critics had their own standards. Colleagues were able to see the director's difficult and technical breakthrough. Even though he himself was nominated for I AM SOMEBODY, in terms of directing technique and technology he did not have any breakthrough. Perhaps the only difficulty he had would be with the script and working with new comers. However Tsui Hark cumulatively developed the technology, some young people might not have even seen the old version of the film. He was able to make a "revolutionary opera" into such a commercial film, which was very hard to achieve. Film producer Gordon Lam Ka Tung originally talked with Yung Chi Kwong about the PORT OF CALL script. The result now felt the best and he would choose it for Best Film. As for all the nominated Best Actors, Ka Tung felt it was very hard to choose. She hoped the most that Hok Yau would win. Lam Ka Yun won the Golden Horse Best Actress so the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress would probably be hers. Bak Ji, Elaine Jin and Ng Yuen Yee were his Best Supporting Actor and Actress choices. Out of the five Best Supporting Actress nominees, Elaine Jin was already nominated for the 9th time and was the first actress to win Best Supporting Actress two years in a row in Hong Kong Film Award history. This year nominated with HELIOS (CHET DOH), Janice Man Wing Shan said that because she was nominated she would not pick her favorite, but she picked Cheung Ka Fai and Lam Ka Yun for Best Actor and Actress. She said, "Ka Fai in KEEPER OF DARKNESS performed very well. Lam Ka Yun just won the Golden Horse Award, I believe that she would be the favorite. I picked Zhang Jin for Best Supporting Actor. He fought very outstandingly in SPL 2 (SAT POR LONG II)." Among the four Best Supporting Actor nominees, Max Zhang Jin was nominated for both SPL 2 and IP MAN 3. His competition would be from Golden Horse Best Supporting Actor Bak Ji, first time nominees Andrew Lam Man Chung and Louis Cheung Kai Chung. Bak Ji picked Cheung Ka Chung to win because of his outstanding performance in KEEPER OF DARKNESS. In addition performing well in a comedy was very hard. He picked his film PORT OF CALL for Best Actress Chun Xia, Best Actor Kwok Fu Sing, Best Supporting Actress Elaine Jin, Best Director Yung Chi Kwong and Best Film. He said, "The Best Actor has to be Sing Sing. Because I was able to work closely with him, his presence was very strong. Chun Xia in the film had many scenes with me, the performance difficulty also was very high. In addition I learned a lot from Sister Elaine, unfortunately I didn't have a lot of scenes with her. She really took care of new comers." Rookie Lam Man Chung with FULL STRIKE (CHUEN LIK KAU SAT) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. He felt honored and since he has never stepped foot on the Hong Kong Film Award stage, he said that he had no confidence at all. He would pick Ba Ji to win again. He joked, "None of them are my competition, because they are all strong on their own." * (2016/03/27) Veteran artist Fung Hark On's funeral took place yesterday. His family members Fung So Bo, Petrina Fung Bo Bo, brother in law Yu Chi Ming and his children all bid Brother Hark farewell. Brother Hark's funeral took place at the Po Fook Hill memorial hall. Yesterday morning Fung Bo Bo, Fung So Bo and Yu Chi Ming had a little smile when they chatted. Later director Andrew Lau Wai Keung, Yuen Qiu and others came to pay their respect. When the ceremony began, Brother Hark's family and friends gave eulogies in a closed door format. After the ceremony the cremation took place at the Fu Shan Cremataorium. The ashes will be placed in Po Fook Hill. After sending Brother Hark on his final journey, his family leaped over a basin of fire then attended a cleansing banquet. Fung So Bo and Fung Bo Bo were saddened and kept silence throughout. 8 friends were the pallbearers, Tsang Chi wai, Tsui Siu Keung, Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah, Meng Hoi, Chin Ka Lok, Lam Kwok Bun and Chow Man Hei spoke to the media. Chi Wai revealed this group of pallbearers have been Brother Hark's friends for several decades. Brother Hark even gave him his start as a stuntman so they had a long history. Chi Wai said that in the past they often worked abroad and constantly ran into the stunt teams of Lau Ka Leung, Sammo Hung Kam Bo and Jackie Chan. Brother Hark was an action film representative figure to him, well liked and loyal he had the love of many action directors. He mentioned that yesterday at the altar he saw Brother Hark's work. Few was able to achieve his kung fu action performance. Chi Wai praised, "Brother Hark was loyal and well liked. At the altar many people wanted to see him one last time. I would always remember drinking with him!" Speaking of a film company's lawsuit against Chi Wai for HK$ 4.5 million in compensation, he said that the matter has entered the judicial process so he could not say more. He had no idea how long the matter will drag on either. Lam Kwok Bun praised his mentor as easy going. Actually in the 80s he already became a student of Brother Hark. He recalled, "Sifu taught me a lot of action, but I was too useful to learn a lot. I only learned to drink and play drinking games. However Sifu's lessons were very helpless on my journey in life. I made a lot of friends. Sifu was very easy going. (Ken) Low Wai Kwong and I rarely called him Sifu, but today I have to say Sifu Go in Peace!" Tsui Siu Keung came to bid his friend farewell but did not have anything special to say, since they have known each other for most of their lives. He remembers that he often beat him at drinking games. Yuen Wah also praised Brother Hark as a sentimental person. * (2016/03/27) The film NGOR YIU FAT DAT (I WANT TO BE RICH) yesterday held its production start worship ceremony outside an old style cafe. Actors Bob Lam Sing Bun, Rose Chan Ka Wun, Natalie Tong Sze Wing, Mak Ling Ling, Jacquelin Chong Si Man and producer Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) attended. First time lead actor Bob jokingly thanked Yip Lim Sum for being daring enough to cast him. He also praised Tong Sze Wing's outstanding acting and believed that she will become the television Best Actress in two years. In the film Bob and Mak Ling Ling played husband and wife, but his goddess was Tong Sze Wing. At the same time he would have other beauties around him and he could not be luckier. In one scene Chan Ka Wun would seduce Bob. Would his wife supervise? He joked, "I prohibited her from coming. Although my daughter wanted to watch, I was afraid that after watching they would be mentally scarred." Would he have any box office pressure as the first time lead actor? Bob said that he would do his best. In addition the film had many veteran actors. He would not think too much about it, as he only wanted to make more happy and positive films. Speaking of Tavia Yeung Yi and Law Chung Him's surprise wedding in England, Tong Sze Wing said that she had no idea before hand. After finding out she already sent a text message to congratulate Yeung Yi. She said, "I have always been waiting for this day for her. When she comes back I have to drag her off to celebrate." TVB actresses have all wed. Sze Wing joked that it was a good opportunity to rise. She said, "After wedding they would have children and take care of their families, I will work hard and rise at work." Will she have a secret marriage too? Sze Wing said that she had no plan to wed and in this era a secret would be very hard to keep. Bob also said that at the end of the year he ran into Law Chung Him's mother. He said, "At the time I asked Auntie when they would wed, she said soon. She even asked me if I was the host could I charge less." Chan Ka Wun said that she was still developing. Aside from continuing to grow taller, she also had results elsewhere. She said, "I was little and had no femininity, so seductions had no result. Now I can try more sexy characters, but in order to wear a bikini I will have to train a little more." Earlier Alex Fong Lik Sun and Stephy Tang Lai Yun ended their ten year relationship. Some said that ANNIVERSARY (GEI LIM YUT) was the trigger. Yip Lim Sum hoped that the film did not affect them, because he already waited 7 years before asking them to make a movie. Some online suggested for Yip Lim Sum to make a new film to bring them back together. He said, "I feel like everyone else, I have to see if I have any suitable subject. In the short run we won't work together." * (2016/03/26) Artist Bbo Lam Sing Bun recently worked on his new film NGOR YIU FAT DAT (I WANT TO BE RICH) as the lead actor. Earlier he posted a photo with goddess Snow Suen Wai Suet. Yesterday he continued to boast with a photo of the seductive office lady Rose Chan Ka Wun. Bob even "complained" about how tough being surrounded by women was. "Producer, you kept arranging for actresses to seduce me in the movie. Have you ever consider my feeling! Sigh, making a movie is really tough!" Married goddess Kay Tse On Kay posted on Bob's facebook, "I urge you not to be so cocky!" Bob replied, "I heard that next month the one with me and your husband will have even more girls. I urge you not to be so cocky." * (2016/03/26) Best Actress Karena Lam Ka Yun and her director husband Steve Yuen Kim Wai, Michelle Wai Si Nga yesterday attended their film HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG)'s audience appreciation event. Speaking of the box office, Ka Yun said, "I don't look at the box office. The most important was that the film had good word of mouth. I already have answered for myself when I have played the character well." Wai Si Nga said that the audience asked why lead actor Jacky Cheung Hok Yau was absent. Ka Yun revealed that Hok Yau due to his daughter's Easter holiday from school was busy with his family. Ka Yun also revealed that she will take time off to celebrate Easter with her daughter. Nominated for Best Actress with the film, would Ka Yun dress up for the Hong Kong Film Awards? She joked that her director husband Yuen Kim Fai will be next to her so she would only dress conservatively. "I won't be sexy because the director will be next to me. I will cover up very tightly. (Will you walk the red carpet with Hok Yau instead?) Of course I will be with the director! I will almost wear a turtleneck!" The Hong Kong Film Awards results were rumored to be leaked online earlier. Ka Yun was said to lose the Best Actress to Miriam Yeung Chin Wa while Hok Yau was said to lose Best Actor to Aaron Kwok Fu Sing. Ka Yun did not mind. "That's not important, the most important is I get to be in a movie. The award shows and the promotions to me are parts of work but not all of it. Enjoying the moment is the most key in acting! (Do you believe these results?) I wouldn't pay too much attention to them, I used to be very afraid of the results. Now I feel I shouldn't deny my own abilities because of the lack of an award." Ka Yun also said that Hok Yau already won Best Actor in her heart. "He did well, very natural. (Would you make an award for him?) He knows!" * (2016/03/26) Film star Chin Siu Ho, Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik, Bondy Chiu Hok Yi and Malaysian star Min-Chen Lin earlier worked on the Ha Yu produced film GAU GEUNG CHING DOH FU at the Kowloon City Plaza. They performed the important battle against the vampire king. Min-Chen and Babyjohn were hung to three stories high for the battle. Otaku goddess Min-Chen said that her Hong Kong film production experience has been memorable. She was very happy to be under the care of some many elders. In the film she accepted many challenges like overcoming her fear of heights for wire work. "Last time I jumped once. I jumped from the second floor, and my legs were numb! This time I could only hypnotize myself, I don't want to keep other people from getting off work." Another challenge was an intimate scene with Babyjohn. It was more funny than romantic. Min-Chen said, "I had to eat the pig's blood near his lips. I don't eat pig's blood, but I was a vampire so I had to pretend it is delicious. It was rather hard to take, but I didn't feel embarrassed." Speaking of her earlier injury from a scooter scene, she said that she was almost recovered. "At the time I couldn't move. I had to be in a wheel chair for two weeks. I was very worried, but now I am already better." Babyjohn played a street sweeper who fought vampires and had a series of action scenes. Luckily Siu Ho taught him kung fu. Speaking of his romance with Min-Chen, he joked, "Her electricity is publicly recognized! I am scared! However lately we have been working night and day, I started to hallucinate. When I saw street sweepers I would suspect whether they were vampire fighters." Ha Yu said that being a producer was ten times harder than being an actor. Speaking of gold label producers Lau Ka Ho and Mui Siu Ching returning to TVB, Ha Yu wanted to work with them and reunite with his HEART OF GREED (TONG SUM FUNG BO) co-stars Lee Sze Kei, Suzanne Kwan Kuk Ying and Michelle Yim (Mai Suet). * (2016/03/26) Veteran artist Fung Hark On earlier in the month passed away from cancer at the age of 67. His family yesterday held services for him on Po Fook Hill in Sha Tin. Fung Hark On's sisters Fung So Bo and Petrina Fung Bo Bo, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Chin Ka Lok, Martin Suen King On and his wife, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei all paid their respect. Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Jackie Chan, Leung Ka Yan went floral arrangements. The funeral committee distributed black and white programs to the media, in which his family, Jackie Chan, Ken Low Wai Kwong and others eulogized Fung Hark On. Fung So Bo said that Fung Hark On's children were not used to facing the media, thus she spoke on their behalf. She revealed that Fung's final wish was to remake GREAT CHUMS (TUNG LO TUNG BO). Chin Ka Lo said, "That's not a big problem. In recent years he has talked about the remake. Back then when he worked on Jackie Chan's POLICE STORY it was his summit. I have some direction for the Association (Hong Kong Stuntman Association) after its reorganization is on track. Let's see if we can make a movie to represent the Association." * (2016/03/26) Comedy star of a generation David Lo Tai Wai earlier passed away. "Creative TV" two days ago rented out the Sunbeam Theater to play two of David Lo's final films THE MOST DANGEROUS MAN (JUI NGAI HIM YUN MUK) and A DREAM TEAM (FAN SUN KEI BING). His widow also attended. Mrs. Lo sadly said, "Everyone can see the stuff on the silver screen, but when he made this film behind the scenes he had a very tough time." She was busy with preparing her late husband's burial goods and also planned to donate his items to those in need. She got choked up when she said, "I really want to finish up soon, but when I was packing I really was reluctant to part with them. It's like I am throwing him out of the house. Mr. Lo was a very simple person, he had no jewelry or gold. Everything was useful in everyday life." * (2016/03/25) The 35th Hong Kong Film Award will take place on April 3rd. Each with different tones and voices interpreted the lines. The performance naturally had a different type of fun. * (2016/03/25) The Andy Lau Tak Wa design figures Andox and Blacky and the Japanese Kumamoto prefecture mascot Kumamon will work together on a tee short. Earlier Kumamon appeared at the Andy Lau fan club address and danced with Andox and Blacky. Wa Jai suddenly appeared and taught Kumamon the SNEAKING OUT ALONE choreography. Wa Jai also under Kumamon's guidance danced a part of the Kumamon Surprise choreography. Kumamon saw Wa Jai and turned into a little fan as he asked for autographs and photos. He also presented farm goods as gifts. Wa Jai returnred the favor with an autographed calendar. Kumamon happily gave a bow in appreciation. Other than this meeting, Andox and Blacky on the 26th and the 27th will attend the Yata X Kumamoto Prefecture "Kumamon Fans Appreciation Festival" and their joint tee shirts will accept advanced orders during the event. The proceeds will be donated to Children Charity Foundation to provide educational assistance to children of Hong Kong's low income families. "The three generations" shared warm family joy. Chan Pui Yin after FIRESTORM (FUNG BO) played Wa Jai's daughter again. Chan Pui Yin said that Wa Jai personally treated her very well and would make desserts for her. When Wa Jai was said to be overfilled with fatherly love, he bashfully smiled. * (2016/03/25) Chapman To Man Chak, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Tarah Chan Yi Lan, Philip Keung Ho Man and others two nights ago attended the film THE MOBFATHERS (SUEN LO DANG) premiere. Chan Yi Lan and To Man Chak in the film had many passionate scenes. The next time they will work together will they go further? Ah Jat said, "This type of scenes is very normal. For a domestic film, we make whatever the audience loves. No inspection is the most convenient, at most is changing a film title. When someone doesn't even have the freedom to think, what creativity can he speak of? Working with her again on another movie? This type of tag along relationship would be insulting to her!" Chan Yi Lan said that she did not feel that and obviously wanted to work again. Ah Jat said that he could not take those "whatever lady". He felt that if Chan Yi Lan has talent, working together would be her helping him out and not the other way around. Ah Jat joked that the film was not a 800 million to a 1 billion big production. He would already laugh since he got a job. His wife Kristal Tin Yui Nei lost her mother earlier. He was fortunately that his wife was busy at work. Otherwise everyday she would wake up and cry. Wong Chau Sun recalled years ago he and Chan Yi Lan attended a French drama master's lesson. He praised her as the "tall Gillian Chung Yun Tung" and her acting was good. He said that this time he would only guest star and did not have a lot of scene time. He could not set off spark withAh To, but he praised him as a producer he was very polite. Ken Hung Cheuk Lap, Kathy Yuen (Tong Yi), Gregory Wong Chung Hiu and others two nights ago attended THE MOBFATHERS (SUEN LO DANG) premiere. Hung Chek Lap in the film had a bath scene in which he pleasured wong Chung Hiu with his hand. Tong Yi said, "I really want to see it, I want to learn." Hung Cheuk Lap went "wow" and said that his girlfriend probably had no idea. Tong Yi responded awkwardly, "I haven't seen it, I just want to see it!" Hung Cheuk Lap recalled that the scene took only three takes. The shoot was not awkward, but because he was afraid that he would look fat he did not dare to watch the playback. He said, "If I had to kiss Wong Chung Hiu, it would be more awkward than this performance. Being able to do that for a god, it truly is rare!" Tong Yi also wanted to play a lesbian and would have no problem with kissing her co-star. She said, "I want to try that feeling. Guys have scratchy facial hair. I want to kiss Shu Qi the most. Her lips are very sexy." Wong Chung Hiu looked forward to watching this scene and praised Hung Cheuk Lap as the meaty and clean guy type that has a market and is able to attract Tony Yi. * (2016/03/25) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and Pakho Chau again worked together on the new film MY WIFE IS THE SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING). As the star in the film Sum Yau's image had variety of changes. She claimed to be Cheon Song-Yi possessed. She said, "In this scene, I deliberately spoke made up English with exaggerated movement and tone. In the end I couldn't hold my laughter and had bad takes galore." Pakho in the film challenged Do Min-Joon image and joked that the bangs were the hardest to master. He also praised co-star Sum Yau's performance as very cute, full of funny abilities and had quite the comedic gene. * (2016/03/24) The 35th Hong Kong Film Award will take place on April 3rd. The event has always kept the results absolute confidential, but two nights ago the latest results suddenly appeared online to the surprise of many, but they were removed after several minutes. The "leaked" results have already been spread around online, as everyone was discussing the credibility of the "results". According to the "results", Aaron Kwok Fu Sing with PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with LITTLE BIG MASTER (NG GOR SIU HAI DIK HAU JEUNG) would win Best Actor and Best Actress. Sing Sing has been nominated numerous times but never won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. Although he has always said that he would remain calm during the race, would the "results" cheer up Sing Sing in advance? At least he was recognized as a Best Actor. Karena Lam Ka Yun won the Golden Horse Best Actress with ZINNIA FLOWER. Her performance in HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) made her the Best Actress favorite. Originally with strong momentum with LITTLE BIG MASTER, Yeung Chin Wa's buzz has eased. However she remained the Best Actress choice in everyone's hearts. If Yeung Chin Wa truly won, Lam Ka Yun would not be able to become the Grand Slam Best Actress. The results even listed Nick Cheung Ka Fai as the New Director award winner with KEEPER OF DARKNESS (TOR DEI KUI MOR YUN). Best Director would go to LITTLE BIG MASTER's Adrian Kwan Shun Fai. Michael Ning (Bak Ji) would win Best New Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Thus PORT OF CALL would become the big winner with 6 awards. The Best Film would be TEN YEARS. Would those be the real results? Or would they be everyone's intended results or even democratic choices? The most certain was that Li Lihua will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, the rest would have to wait until the April 3rd award ceremony. Sing Sing and Chow Yun Fat got along famously while working on COLD WAR 2 (HONG JIN 2). An avid hot pot fan, he for Fat Gor changed his taste and went for Poon Choi. Two days ago a photo was posted online with Fat Gor, Fat Soh, Sing Sing and manager Siu Mei at Ping Shan, Yuen Long for Poon Choi and country village farm food. COLD WAR 2 directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching, boss Bill Kong Chi Keung also attended. Because of this pleasant working experience, Fat Gor treated everyone to the tasting. Siu Mei even sang the praises of the duck soup. Sing Sing said that next time he would bring his mother. * (2016/03/24) Film stars Janice Man Wing Shan, Andy Hui Chi On, Gordon Lam Ka Tung and Wilfred Lau Ho Lung two nights ago attended their film NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI)'s world premiere. JM and On Jai extended their spark from the spark to their interview. When asked if JM's boyfriend would watch the film, JM who had a nude performance in the film said that he would. However she did not know whether he would arrive in time for the premiere. On Jai joked, "Would someone's face be all burnt when he comes out?" JM said that her boyfriend had an open mind, On Jai continued. "Maybe he would be the one who laughs very hard!" Speaking of the film's category III rating, JM said that it was regrettable. She even said that her nude performance might not be the main reason. "It was conceptually daring but it wasn't category III." On Jai said that the film's category III rating represented the director's authenticity remained in the film. "So I feel comfortable because I was right to trust the director." Lau Ho Lung guest starred. Speaking of his girlfriend Joey Yung Cho Yi suffering a sprain during her dance rehearsal for a Mainland program. Would he rub her feet? He said that he helped out. "She is so persistent that even I learned something." Lau Ho Lung revealed that he would work out hard for his new record release. "I still have 20 days, I still have 6 pounds to lose." * (2016/03/24) Connie Man Hoi Ling recently in the film IGIRL (IGIRL MUNG CHING YUN) played a passionate female robot and was paired with Dominic Ho Ho Man. However this time their romance was rather fairy tale like. She joked that they did not have many "action scenes". The funniest was she constantly winked at people and needed to perform in an exaggerated method. Speaking of the most memorable scene, Connie said that she had to exchange spit with Dominic and have the same piece of candy with him. "I was a robot so after eating a sour candy I didn't know what sour was. Dominic took the candy out of my mouth to try, after which he gave it back to me. Actually it was pretty gross! That day we had a lot of candy, I lost all sense of taste and was all numb. However I still had to perform a sweet feeling." * (2016/03/24) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) yesterday promoted her new film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING) with Alex Lam Tak Shun on the TVB program BIG BOYS CLUB. Speaking of her friend Liu Shishi's wedding, Lau Sum Yau said, "It was already marrying her off very gloriously. Although she wasn't family, I have known her for a long time and was happy for her. I could witness this important moment, which I really was very happy about. (Which moment was the most touching?) When I got off the plane she already couldn't control her emotions. It was hot there so we couldn't differentiate between sweat and tears. I just kept sweating, getting wetter and wetter." Would she want to get married? Sum Yau said, "My future wedding will be very low key. Over 300 people at the ceremony would truly be too much, the responsibility would be enormous. Mine would be simpler. (Did you meet the groom's party?) I know three of them already, everyone was very seriously being groomsmen and bridesmaids." Lam Tak Shun said that he inherited his father George Lam Chi Cheung's low key style. When he dated he hoped to have personal space so he would not publicize it. Perhaps he would wait until the wedding to. * (2016/03/24) A film company earlier sued artist Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Au Wing Chi for fraudulent misrepresentation as they tempted a company to collaborate on the film production LUCKY STAR 2015 (GUT SING GO JIU 2015). The plaintiff Cheers Studio Limited asked for that film contract to be cancelled and for HK$ 4.5 million to be returned to the plaintiff for compensation of the plaintiff's losses. The plaintiff also requested Tsang Chi Wai to explain the gains and compensations that he received from the film. Tsang Chi Wai's son Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung yesterday responded while promoting his new film. He said that he would have to first call his father to get an understanding of the details. He also said that his father has always only given good news and not the bad, so he had no idea. * (2016/03/24) Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Eric Kwok Wai Leung and J.Arie (Lui Sum Yu) yesterday attended the TVB program BIG BOYS CLUB taping to promote their new film ROBBERY (LO LUP). The film received a category III rating. Tsang Kwok Cheung explained that it was because the film had many sex scenes. Eric and Anita Chui Bik Ka's segment was the most extreme. Eric said that because his character's violence and sex it was a huge challenge for him. When asked if he had a lot of bed scenes, he joked that he did not feel they were enough. Was he afraid that his wife Grace Ip Pui Man would yell at him? He said, "She hasn't seen it yet, I believe that after she did I wouldn't have the chance to make another. When a new actor is able to perform a character with a lot of potential, it's a lot of fun." Was it awkward for him to work on a love scene with actresses? He said, "At first it was a little, but the pressure was enormous. If I didn't do well people would yell at me. Then my wife told me that I should give my all from the start and treat female co-stars better. This was a woman's perspective, I felt that I was a new actor and I had to slowly absorb experience." Tsang Kwok Cheung revealed that he only played a wasted youth who worked at a convenience store. He joked that he was envious of Eric's numerous sex scenes. Eric joked that all the male co-stars were envious of him. He also joked that he had to have more bad takes they could watch a few more times. Eric said, "One scene took five or six takes, even I felt bad; but truly it wasn't performed well and could be performed better." * (2016/03/24) HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) stars Jacky Cheung Hok yau and Karena Lam Ka Yun let themselves go for their performance. In one scene they ran into each other five years later. At the time both had a little blame. When she was upset, Ka Yun threw red wine at Hok Yau. Because Hok Yau's costume was an all white suit, whenever Ka Yun threw red wine he would have to change into another one to be able to continue. Ka Yun was quite nervous about that. Hok Yau instead joked that at her age she still did not know how to throw red wine at people. Finally Ka Yun had to grab the assistant director for her to practice with. After she practiced she then asked Hok Yau to return to the shoot. Hok Yau for this film not only had to be on the receiving end of the red wine, but also had to soak in a pool to interpret the guilt that he felt from his sin. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 30 2016, FAILED MAN TRACKS (THIS COLUMN ONLY THOSE WHO GREW UP IN TUEN MUN WOULD UNDERSTAND) Because of my good friend Fat Dog Tak's wedding, we Tuen Mun kids had another chance to gather in Tuen Mun. My good friends are all from Tuen Mun, over the years most of them have been married, but few were like Fat Dog Tak whose entire process from picking up the bride to the ceremony to the wedding banquet all took place in Tuen Mun. In addition we have graduated and left for already 20 years. The good wife he married is also from Tuen Mun, so the connection is even more so. We after picking up the bride very early in the morning went to the groom's home in Oi Yee House. The pound symbol shape housing estate remained, but the feeling of walking through it was already very different from when we were young. At the time no home closed its door. Occasionally when the neighbors' children wed people would come over and congratulate them. However now every door is closed. I still remember at the time when I came to my classmate's Yau Oi Estate home, the elevator lobby would have several tables of housewives playing mahjong. Sometimes they even had barbecues on the pound shaped court yard or roof, but now the roof is locked. The ten of us on the 22nd floor smoked and had chicken pies while we waited for the tea ceremony inside the home. When the neighbors came out, all eight to ten of us uncles would all stare at the young girl who came out. That girl averted our stares and sped away. We felt good about our egos, then kept on like when we were young spat and tossed cigarette butts down to the pound shaped courtyard. Then we thought idly if we jumped from here, how should we jump to be able to land into the center of the pound shape. It probably was impossible. After studying that for a good half of a day we finally reached the end of the tea ceremony, then everyone returned to the Leung Kau Kui College for photos. Looking back at the graduation photo 20 years ago, we stood in the same spots and everything was like yesterday. We even remembered classmate Tse Chun Yi who camped out at the school for boy scout, because he snuck out from the school late at night the police thought he was a thief and arrest him! After the photos we strutted our way to the restaurant. They said dinner was at V City, I had no idea what was V City. Actually it was where San Fat Estate used to be. Back then the Hoh Fuk Tong Primary School was there, with the YWCA, soccer field, stores and many street vendors. At the time under the cross of the Catholic primary school across the street were many swallows' nests! A little past San Fat Estate was a very large athletic field. Every year's Lunar New Year market was there, so during the Lunar New Year the San Fat San Hui was horrifying crowded. That San Hui was spacious. In May a lot of cotton tree flowers flowed in the air like snow. Now the place where San Hui people called V City is very dense, without any space at all. Once inside I would be completely lost, for some reason the stores insides were completely the same as the Tuen Mun Town Plaza! Lost In Tuen Mun Later we went to the formerly Yau Oi Restaurant, V Cuisine. Yau Oi Restaurant and On Ting Restaurant were rather large restaurants in this area in the past. Now On Ting Restaurant is no more, and Yau Oi Restaurant has very little room remaining. On Ting and Yau Oi also became shopping centers that I would be completely lost in. The fact that in a place where I could walk with my eyes closed I would get lost, that feeling truly was very odd. Because the groom wanted to perform a song without the bride knowing in advance, while we were waiting for the guests to be seated snuck off to the Yau Oi terrace to rehearse. The Wise Guys used to gathered here. The antiquated terrace has already become a park with several fields of grass. The Wise Guys have all become families large and small. The space was rather open. Downstairs next to the Light Rail Station where my street stall was at age 17 has also become a part of the shopping center, without any trace of the past. After a night of partying and the guests left, the ten or so of us took four bottles of red and white wines and a guitar to "hea" on that grass field terrace. We sat on the grass, playing guitar and drinking. Occasionally security guards would tell us to keep it down. When the police passed by they did not dare to approach. Looking back when we were young the police would always love to check our identification cards, but today among us uncles are inspectors, big time lawyers and district fire chiefs. We were looking forward to those several kids to check our IDs! Finally, out of the four bottles we only drank one. In the end we ended up drinking Lucozade and Pocari Sweat, then like 20 years ago we parted ways and went home! Many of us still live in Tuen Mun now, but an one day tour like this is truly rare. I have never properly visited the current Tuen Mun. Today our tracks are like returning to our youth, schools, San Hui, San Fat, On Ting, Yau Oi, the roof and the terrace, the route that we used to take everyday seemed like a lifetime ago. - Derek Kwok Chi Kin JOURNEY TO THE WEST 1.2 Billion Box Office Director, Figure Collector 2. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 29 2016, MY HOME FIELD WA JAI: HE IS MY IDOL YELLING AT SAMMO HUNG TO STOP TEACHING ACTING Sammo Hung Kam Bo after 17 years returns to directing with THE BODYGUARD (DUT GUNG YEH YEH). Aside from Andy Lau Tak producing and starring, he even invited the Cinema City iron triangle Dean Shek Tin, Karl Maka and Tsui Hark to return to the screen. Hung Kam Bo and Wa Jai earlier were interviewed. Wa Jai even joked that since he was an idol he did not permit Hung Kam Bo any line that required him to yell at his daughter. On and off the set it was like a happy reunion. - Wong Hiu Yin THE BODYGUARD Release Date: April 1st Hung Kam Bo (Big Brother Big) and Lau Tak Wa starred in THE BODYGUARD, the story of which was about a retired special agent with amnesia. Hung Kam Bo said, "This old man is an already retired Zhongnanhai special agent. He had a rather good story." Wa Jai said, "When I read the script, I felt that someone who received so much training like that would have severe damage to his brains because he kept on operating. This time the story would not turn things that he could not remember into a part of th story. Instead it would be about a very normal old person. He was retired, he made one mistake in his life and lost his granddaughter. He wanted to slowly repair his own emotions and by chance ran into a neighbor like me who did not know how to take care of his daughter. He made up for his own loss so he treated my daughter like his grand daughter." Why did he use amnesia as the subject? Did he want to bring attention to it? Wa Jai said, "It's very normal. This isn't an illness, but regression." When they shared their memories, Hung Kam Bo pretended not to remember. Wa Jai joked, "Big Brother Big, time for your medicine!" Big Brother Big also joked that he was very forgetful. "When I owe people money, I definitely don't remember!" Ask Maka To Be An Extra Speaking of inviting Maka, Shek Tin and Tsui Hark to return to the screen, Hung Kam Bo joked, "I felt the extras didn't know how to walk, so I might as well ask Maka to play the role. I made a call and they came. I really want to thank them." Normally would they meet? Hung Kam Bo said, "No, when they have no use I don't meet them. I don't even say hi to them. Actually it is because everyone is like messing around in life, now Maka likes to perform Chinese opera. He is always performing and he enjoys it. However he doesn't make movies. Since I asked him he came!" Working with his schoolmates on fight scenes, they naturally had chemistry. Hung Kam Bo said, "Actually I had chemistry with anyone I fight, I was the most successful one in the school. I was able to fight with anyone." Speaking of Hung Kam Bo's agility, would he normally train? He joked that he normally would only move his upper and lower lip. "I eat, and eat after I ate, haha! Actually since I have been training since I was little my kung fu background was better. Now I could keep moving my upper and lower lips for either talking or eating. Actually I would move because a lot of joints don't work. I usually swim, walk for 45 minutes. Now even several steps would hurt." If he had to work on a fight scene, would he not be injured even easier? Hung Kam Bo said that he would tough it out. Less Pressure With Big Brother Big Wa Jai admitted that working with Hung Kam Bo he did not have a lot of pressure. He said, "All of his action are my favorite. He would have his own design's flavor there. Every movie would have something different, this time the character is very suitable for Big Brother Big to play, so there is no pressure; I sometimes have to remind him, you know, I am an idol, but I play a bad papa. He told me to yell, 'Bad girl, come here!' I said I can't say that stuff!" Would Not Teach Kung Fu To Descendants Personally Speaking of his two grandsons, Hung Kam Bo looked like a kind grandfather. He felt that he should leave teaching his grandsons to his son Timmy Hung Tin Ming. He said, "I just coax or give dirty looks no matter what, I leave the punishment to Papa." Would he let his grandsons study martial art? Hung Kam Bo said, "Definitely, I would teach a little. however if they want to be well trained, I definitely would leave them for someone else to teach. If the training is too strict, they wouldn't see me again. Then I would be in trouble!" Wa Jai revealed, "My old man used to teach driving, but he couldn't teach us. He asked someone else to. With all the yelling, family can easily get upset! However when the driving teacher yells you can't say anything." 3. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 27 2016, FILM WORDS HEAVEN IN THE DARK PALES FROM THE ORIGINAL New director Steve Yuen Kim Fai adapted the new Hong Kong film HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG) from the Candace Chong Mui Ngam play FRENCH KISS. Jacky Cheung Hok Yau played a very popular pastor and the Hong Kong host of an international charity organization. Yet after stealing a kiss after drinking, his female employee Karena Lam Ka Yun accused him of sexual misconduct as he loses everything. The story started with the two running into each other again at a party and spoke about their past. The film version added a lot of details and characters to the stage version. Cheung Hok Yau's performance was the liveliest. Lam Ka Yun was very reserved. Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Wong Hei, Edmond So Chi Wai, Tyson Chak, Rosa Velasco (Wai Law Sa) and others provided support. HEAVEN IN THE DARK involved the church, business and the court, this subject was rarely seen in Hong Kong film. I have seen the original work FRENCH KISS. On the stage it was simple and wonderful, showing that a little kiss would brew into a lawsuit with severe consequences. It received great reviews. The film added details to fill in the blanks, which I felt lost the wonder of just touching upon the subject. Was the victim the pastor or the employee? The topic was even more controversial. Because the original was not easy to adapt, this film was not considered successful. Chong Mui Ngam's most dramatic play was MURDER IN SAN JOSE. THE PROFESSOR, which was about the university teacher and student, touched on current real Hong Kong problems. Would it be also adapted for the silver screen? (two and a half out of five star) - SHEK KEI 4. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 27 2016, MY HOME FIELD KARENA LAM'S KISS BOTTOM LINE Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and Karena Lam Ka Yun in 2002 JULY RHAPSODY (NAM YUN SEI SUP) cooked up a secret teacher student romance. 14 years later by fate they reunite on the film HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG), which also toted the line and examined human nature with religion. The difference is the last time Lam Ka Yun just started her career and today she is a Best Actress, even a wife and a mother. Another bright spot of HEAVEN was that Ka Yun performing for husband Steve Yuen Kim Wai's directing debut. Her husband not only named Ka Yun the lead actress but also left the intimate scenes inthe film to Ka Yu and Hok Yau. - Cho Ka Sing The film HEAVEN IN THE DARK's script was based on the Candace Chong Mui Ngam's award winning play FRENCH KISS. Ka Yun revealed that after watching the play with her husband in 2011, her husband Yuen Kim Fai decided to adapt the story for the big screen and named his wife to the lead actress. She recalled, "Chong Mui Ngam agreed to let us adapt it and even handed it to the director to handle. Ultimately a play and a film are two completely different scripts. During its creation aside from being an actor I also helped with a lot of research. In addition I told the director, I don't have to be the one who plays the role. However he said that when he wrote this character he already planned for me to play it, because he felt that the character and I had some things in common -- naivete and stubbornness. Thus I am the most suitable." Free Reign On Intimate Scenes As for Hok Yau he was Ka Yun's one and only choice. She explained, "Actually after I read the script for the first time I told the director I wanted Hok Yau. My instinct said that he would have a lot of potential with such a complex character. The director of course said OK, but did we have the money?" As fate would have it, without any contact over the years Ka Yun suddenly reached Hok Yau's invitation to shoot a music video. She not only agreed but also revealed that she was preparing for a script. She said, "After reading the script he really liked it and agreed to be the lead actor, but I told him we still haven't found a boss to invest. He was so nice that he even found one for us. Basically without Hok Yau it wouldn't have gone so smoothly." The script took five years to prepare and only started production last year. Ka Yun thanked Hok Yau for his assistance. Her most memorable scene was also their kiss scene in the car at the Peak. However Ka Yun said, "The director said that he didn't want to affect our performance so he left it for us to improvise. He wouldn't give any opinion." Then Yuen Kim Fai almost only stared at the monitor throughout. As for her husband's directing debut, Ka Yun not only gave her personal support but also did a lot of research during the creative process. After witnessing the entire process, Ka Yun was very objective with her husband. "His goal was very clear and very simple, he just wanted to make athe movie. In addition he was very demanding with the set and the props. Even if he knew that the audience might not notice it, he still felt that it should be done to its best. Of course during the process he would be tired, I would push him back. Instead when I was down he would remind me. The mutual support was very important, ultimately the road of film wasn't easy." Hok Yau Should Win Best Actor Aside from praising her good director and good husband, Ka Yun naturally had nothing but praise for Hok Yau. She said, "I remember the first day at work, Hok Yau was preaching in a church. Then he ate an apple on the spot, several pages of script in total. On the first day of work everyone usually needed to warm up to get into shape, but he did not need to at all. As soon as he arrived he was very natural. When he preached every actor including me was drawn in, like he really was a pastor. He wouldn't have any bad take. When he played CEO he truly became two different people. Thus I hope that this time the Best Actor will go to Hok Yau, more than I want to win myself." Yuen Kim Fai RASHOMEN HEAVEN IN THE DARKNESS was adapted from Chong Mui Ngam's FRENCH KISS. FRENCH won the 15th Hong Kong Drama Awards Best Screenplay. The film story depicted Cheung Hok Yau as a multinational charity organization chief and a pastor. He shared a French kiss with his employee and fellow church member Lam Ka Yun at the Peak. In a flash Ka Yun accused Hok Yau of sexual misconduct and ruined his name. They ran into each other again five years later, putting together memories of he said she said into facts that they believed. Yuen Kim Fai's directing debut examined the dark side of humanity with religion. Sometimes the truth may not be clearer the more you defend it. It has quite the shadow of the Japanese film RASHOMEN. 5. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 26 2016, I CAME FOR OTHER PEOPLE'S FUN THE GREATER PROBLEM THAT COMES FROM RESOLVING A PROBLEM "When I have a problem I would choose to handle it myself, because I am afraid that when I leave the problem to you, you would resolve it." "What are you saying? I am someone who can resolve problems." "I am not saying you aren't, only the way that you resolve small problems would always create another larger problem." When my wife says that, I realize that it is indeed the truth. However if you have not spent any time with me, it is very hard to explain to everyone. So I will try to explain with a recent matter. Cover Design For Screenplay Collection Two years ago my office worked with a publisher to prepare to publish a screenplay collection of my first ten films. Thus the assistants began to organize and edit. The original plan was to add to film posters as the cover, but this created another problem. Although many film companies have granted permission for me to use film posters to publish the screenplay collection, because films have long left the cinemas and the promotional periods, even when I received permission from the film companies I still had to have the permission from the artists on the posters. However the film companies would not over something so trivial to contact each artist. Even if the film companies would agree to, you would only be more worried; because it would mean that the matter has sunk like a rock into the sea. There would be no news even after 800 years. I have also thought about making contacts with my company, only the matter progressed very slowly. When facing this problem, I thought since the films have left the cinemas long ago and people who wanted to buy the screenplay collection probably would have seen the movies, why would I need the actors' faces? For film releases, promoting with star effect was more than reasonable. Yet to students who were interested in the screenplay collection, perhaps they would be even more interested in film work and screenplay creation. Thus faces of stars should not be important. Artists X Film Posters Thus I suddenly thought, why not create a completely different secondary creation anew and bring an alternative feeling of the films to the audience. This was also the meaning of reading the screenplay collection after watching the film. In the past while conducting research for films, I have already seen many artists' work online. Thus after choosing ten artists I liked I daringly contacted them online. The world now is much more convenient than when I was young. In the past finding strangers was very difficult, but no matter who they are, where they are in the world, I can almost in an afternoon find their contacts simply on facebook, Instagram and the like. Thus from Turkey to Peru, I contacted ten artists with ten completely different styles and told them my creation project. Because it was not a commercial poster design, more like an outsourced artistic creation, I decided that as long as they were willing to participate I would send them my film's DVD. Without any guidance or interference, they could create posters. I would not care about the styles that they came up with and I would not give any opinion from the sidelines. Thus, I even deliberately burnt a DVD of the ten films for them. The videos only had the film's original English subtitles and not the Hong Kong distributed DVD. The boxes would not have the original poster on the cover that might affect them. This way the artists would not have any idea who in the film was more famous. Only after watching the film they would comprehend in their own way then create with their own style. Some artists after making a draft politely sent it over and asked for some opinions. I turned them down. Because on this matter, I felt that I should take the lead. I probably was like a planner, organizing a topic with different artists then for them to create. As soon as I gave them opinions I would become interference. Mural Style YOU SHOOT I SHOOT I found the Turkish artist Murat Palta for my first film YOU SHOOT I SHOOT (MAI HUNG PAK YUN) because he constantly considered the mural style of Istanbul 800 years ago. If a modern film was in that era what would the film poster look like. Although YOU SHOOT I SHOOT had no Turkish element at all and had nothing to do with Istanbul, to me the feeling was as distant as 800 years ago. Thus I chose Murat Palta for my first film. I did not expect that I would have no reply after a month. I thought the matter was over. Who knew that Murat Palta one day would suddenly reply and said that because normally he did not check his email (I am really envious of people who check their email once a month only). After reading the email, he immediately and gladly agreed to participate. With Murat Palta, I was even more excited as I could see the project coming to fruition. Thus I contacted the other nine artists and then the long wait came. Because it was not a commercial activity, it also became like it had no deadline. After that, the project was late for more than half a year before it was released. After each artist finished the poster, I thanked my friend Julian Lee Chi Chiu for his recommendation as I found the artwork publisher Chau Digital. Earlier than printed for Lee Chi Chiu a lot of his photos for exhibits. At the same time I thanked the Cat Street Gallery for its interest in these posters and invited me to be the planner for an exhibit there. Any friend who is interested could visit there for a glimpse of the actual posters. Also through this exhibit I want to remember Mr. Lee Chi Chiu, unfortunately he already had no way of attending. REBORN Exhibit: Date: April 1 to 10, 2016 Location: The Cat Street Gallery - Pang Ho Cheung Ancestors from Panyu, born in Kwun Tong. A Virgo with writer, screen writer, film producer, actor and artist all in one. He works only to support his online shopping and limited exercise habits. 6. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 25 2016, FILM AND TELEVISION MARKET TREND Last week KUNG FU PANDA 3 opened ahead of the Easter holiday and successfully took first place with HK$ 10.08 million, a decent performance but its real result will have to wait until this week. This series 8 years ago released its first film and made HK$ 31.47 million; three years later its sequel made HK$ 35.9 million and was rather popular; this year with the third film no one knows whether it will be able to maintain this HK$ 30 million record. The third film opened in the U.S. in January and made US$ 138.49 million. In comparison to its two previous films, the series is on the decline in the U.S. The first film made US$ 215.43 million, the second fell to US$ 165.24 million; however this series grew stronger by the installment in the Mainland. The first film made 169 million RMB, the second film made 598.69 million RMB. By the third film it made 994.7 million RMB in a strong contrast to the U.S. In addition the third film had China Film Group investment, which gave the film an advantage in its Mainland distribution. This week Disney animation ZOOTOPIA opened. Last week its advanced screening made HK$ 3.28 million in second place. Conceivably the performance will create pressure for KUNG FU PANDA 3; in its third week LONDON HAS FALLEN made HK$ 2.51 million in third place, over three weeks it made HK$ 13.52 million and surpassed its predecessor OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN's HK$ 9.3 million in an ideal performance. Opening last week, THE DIVERGENT SERIES: ALLEGIANT made HK$ 2.21 million in fourth place. Over two weeks it made HK$ 5.36 million, worse than its predecessor INSURGENT's HK$ 9.56 million and the first film DIVERGENT's HK$ 8.79 million; this series that was adapted from a best selling science fiction novel had a disastrous performance in the U.S. with only US$ 31.04 million. The first film did the best with US$ 150.49 million, the second film made US$ 130.17 million. Its fourth installment next year ASCENDANT's future will be hard to predict. In its fourth week last week, THE DANISH GIRL made HK$ 1.56 million in sixth place. Over four weeks it made HK$ 13.36 million in a rather ideal showing. The new release Taiwan horror film THE TAG-ALONG made HK$ 1.11 million, the best performer among new releases other than KUNG FU PANDA 3. The Japanese film BRIDE OF RIP VAN WINKLE made HK$ 430,000, even with director Shunji Iwai and Haru Kuroki the film was unable to attract an audience; this film opened last month in Taiwan and only made NT$ 560,000, worse than in Hong Kong. TRUMBO made HK$ 230,000, such a performance probably was due to its alternative subject; another even more alternative at film, famous Italian director Paolo Sorrentino's YOUTH made HK$ 170,000. In the Mainland, ZOOTOPIA mad 384.36 million RMB in first place, over three weeks it made 1,118,300,000 RMB; the new release THE REVENANT made 208.07 million RMB in second place; GODS OF EGYPT made 82.17 million RMB in third place, over two weeks it made 211.68 million RMB; IP MAN 3 made 54.59 million RMB in fourth place. - LAM KAM BO 7. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 24 2016, ASIAN FILMS SAMMO HUNG'S KUNG FU DREAM Sammo Hung Kam Bo is 64. In the industry everyone calls him Big Brother Big. Big Brother Big has been a big brother since he was little. At age 10 he became Yu Jim Yuen's student and already he was the eldest brother of the "Seven Little Fortunes". After almost 50 years in the film industry, Big Brother Big has made many kung fu action films and is absolutely one of the representative figures in Hong Kong kung fu films. However his passion for film is what people admire the most. Big Brother Big has made many hit films and also worked as a director, screen writer, producer and other posts. His large figure and his agility have become his trademark. Since the 70s, Hong Kong kung fu films have always been on top of Asia. Big Brother Big also remained in the film industry and saw Hong Kong kung fu film's rise, fall and development. As the environment and market changed, he too had to keep up with the pace of the world. Today he could not help but lament, "Hong Kong no longer has a dream factory, but Hong Kong's solid kung fu films still are irreplaceable." Return to Directing After 17 Years Hung Kam Bo at age 17 was already a stunt man. In 1971 he joined Golden Harvest. His first film as a stunt man was THE FAST SWORD (DUET MING SEUNG GIM),which once the 1st Taiwan Golden Dragon Award for Best martial art direction. Over the years, Hung Kam Bo has made countless films. He also went from acting to directing, a multitalented action superstar. His past action comedy films have made over HK$ 10 million at the box office. In the 90s he even went to Hollywood and made the television series MARTIAL LAW. Then he returned to Hong Kong to continue his film work. Although he is already 64 this year, his energy is still admirable. Most recently he returns to directing after 17 years, as he directs and stars in the film THE BODYGUARD (DUT GUNG YEH YEH). Big Brother Big talked about his new film as well as Hong Kong kung fu film development and his film dream. Speaking of film, Big Brother Big became intense and anxious. His passion for film could obviously be seen. As for Hong Kong kung fu film's changes, Big Brother Big said, "Many years ago people always say that Hong Kong was a film dream factory, but now no one does. Everyone has gone to make other film genres, kung fu films have become fewer and fewer. Because this is a huge investment, no one would make it again." He lamented that if no one would create dreams, where would the next generation dream? Dreaming would ultimately need a platform! He said, "Kids in the old days trained hard in hopes of one day becoming a martial art star. Like Thailand's Tony Jaa, he trained because he had a dream factory. He hoped to become a future martial art star. However Hong Kong does not have one." Hong Kong already lacked the solid and real deal kung fu films of yore, the reason of which was that now most actors started as idols. They would leave home halfway to become lead actors. Big Brother Big said, "When idols make movies, they don't have to train; because they can sing and become famous. A reporter asked me once, why kung fu films have no successor. Just think, from Hung Kam Bo, Jackie Chan and Yuen Biao's era to now, how many martial art stars have Hong Kong made? Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit), (Donnie) Yen Chi Tan and Wu Jing. China has so many martial art schools but no one makes kung fu film. China has many, many agile young people. With cultivation they could become something. Yet in Hong Kong everyone trains on their own. I feel there should be a platform for children to dream." Laments The Disappearance of Real Kung Fu Films As a director, Hung Kam Bo has directed many films. In the eyes of the director, how difficult would it be to make idols look like martial art stars? Big Brother Big felt that the most important was whether they could train seriously. Now many people would start late. The ones who are willing to put in an effort and take risks can be convincing. "Like (Eddie) Peng Yu-Yan. This time I asked him to perform, everyday he would wear the wire clothes for 12 hours. No matter how I told him to fly and hang, he would not say a word. When you are willing to risk your life, I would want to put more on you; if you don't I would put them on the double." His era's "real" kung fu films have vanished. Faced with this general trend, would Big Brother Big feel any regret? He said, "Even if I do I can't do anything about that. Dreams can't only rely on me. This is the climate, it's easy to talk. Who would take out money to waste." Yet in his eyes, Hong Kong kung fu films are still on top. Even when Hollywood has countless big productions, their action scenes still follow China's. Would he feel that the top position was irreplaceable? Big Brother Big helplessly laughed, "I hope it can, for another 50 years." Although the times have changed, Big Brother Big was still full of passion for film and would never give it up. What was so attractive about film? "First is the set atmosphere. Secondly people who hire me don't play low wages." He again showed his humorous side. In the past he has worked in different film posts, but his favorite was still directing. He said, "I am not Jackie Chan. His film is heroism, but in my movies every actor has a lot of scenes. I like to teach actors to act." Big Brother Big's passion for film could be sensed. Last year when he worked on location in Russia for THE BODYGUARD, as the director Big Brother Big would always be the earliest one on the set. Day and night of production for this 64 year old old man actually is very tough. Everyday after work Big Brother Big would always look tired. Sometimes he would not even have the energy to sit and talk. Yet because of his persistence, passionate and determination for film he toughed it out and made every shot great. Big Brother Big also said that he never thought about retiring. He said, "If I can keep working, I will keep working. I love film, I love this dream." Wa Jai As A Producer: It's A Very Easy Job Hung Kam Bo and Lau Tak Wa lately have always been together because Wa Ja invested in the film THE BODYGUARD, which invited Hung Kam Bo to direct and star. Wa Jai not only guest starred but also produced. Earlier they spoke about the film production and they laughed happily. Because so many actor friends gathered together, everyday at work was very happy. This time Big Brother Big directed again after 17 years, did Wa Jai have to spend a lot of energy to convince him? He said, "Actually big boss (Bill) Kong Chi Keung had this idea long ago and showed Big Brother big the script. I knew that after reading it he was tempted, but for him to act and direct he would really have a lot to mind. However Big Brother Big very quickly got into it. He was great, he would calculate cost and market for us. This time the producer job is very easy for me." Hung Kam Bo Is Back To Life When Called Director Big Brother Big said that he agreed to direct and star because the script moved him. He also felt that he could grasp the character in the film, as it was not too complicated. The first day at work still left Big Brother Big with a deep impression. He said, "The first day I step foot onto the set, everyone called me director. The feeling came back." Wa jai said that this time when he asked Big Brother Big to play the film's "grandpa", he was the only choice. He felt that Big Brother Big was not only entertaining with his fight scenes , he too really liked to watch him act. He had a very unique Hong Kong flavor. In order for Big Brother Big's "Zhongnanhai Special Agent" character to be more real, the film company used old footage with the latest computer technology to make Big Brother Big appear in the old footage. Wa Jai said, "Ultimately Big Brother Big is a Hong Kong actor, but his character is a Mainland special agent. This is not an action comedy or a commercial film. It is a movie that tells a story." Wa Jai also said that the action scenes in the film did not require him to think. As a producer this time he was responsible for the big boss and the film production to obtain a balance. Speaking of the action scenes in the film, Big Brother Big admitted that they were not difficult. The hardest was coming up with them in the beginning. Once he thought them through they would not hard at all. Did he love action scene or drama scene more? He joked, "The best would be to make a romance with all the hugging and kissing, you get paid too. Don't think that bed scenes and love scenes are very easy. Actually they aren't. A long time ago I worked on a television series in Taiwan with Tian Niu. On the first day of the shoot he held her for a photo and I didn't feel natural at all." This time Big Brother Big even called in favors and invited many friends who rarely appeared on screen. They included "Seven Little Fortunes" brothers and sisters, Maka, Shek Tin and Tsui Hark. Wa Jai admitted that he did not dare to call in favors like Big Brother Big because he was very thin skinned. In film he has not done anything that people benefited from unlike Big Brother Big. In the past he truly personally cultivated many people. He also toiled with everyone in the film industry. Wa Jai also joked, "Instead I have the guts to ask the Four Great Heavenly King to be concert guests." This time "Seven Little Fortunes" siblings did not have to fight in the film. They played some everyday life characters. If the audience coudl recognize them, they would feel very interested. Big Brother Big said, normally he would contact the "Seven Little Fortunes" siblings. Soon the "Seven Little Fortunes" will turn 60. The brothers suggested to have dinner to celebrate, which he felt was not a good idea because they would have to spend a lot of time to plan. He still remembered the "Seven Little Fortunes" 50th anniversary. He saw his sisters. Although they have already become grandmothers in order to commemorate the "Seven Little Fortunes" they would roll on the stage, which moved him to tears. He could ask his disciples to perform on the stage. Big Brother Big said, "Disciples have no historical background, which are already meaningless. I would not accept students because I would have to teach them." THE BODYGUARD Synopsis In THE BODYGUARD, Hung Kam Bo played an experienced veteran soldier Ting Fu who is already retired but he remains as agile and powerful as he used to be. With the opening of the border to China, new codes and mores make their way into the world of the triads – and those who don’t adjust their business models have already lost. A genre film from Hong Kong that chooses to set its story during those years of turmoil is tantamount to a double swan song. For these political changes also effectively spelled the end of an independent Hong Kong cinema that was admired across Asia. One of the few directors who has continued to defend and develop the genre is Johnnie To. By producing TRIVISA, To is flying the flag for three up-and-coming directors who tell the stories of three legendary gangsters of the period. This is not an anthology film, but rather an overlapping story of men who become victims of their own legends. As chance brings them all together one day in the same restaurant on the Chinese side of the border, rumours swirl that the three are planning a joint coup. In elegant fashion, hype and hubris lead to their downfall. (Christoph Terhechte) ROBBERY Can : Lo Lup Bin Lei Dim Lit : Stick Up Convenience Store d.
