MISCELLANEOUS * (2016/03/16) Taiwan actress Tiffany Hsu and River Huang He starred in the new film THE TAG ALONG. In it Huang He was possessed and thought bugs were food. For realism Huang He had to eat real bugs. Tiffany Hsu had to be frightened to tears, but she just used her real emotions. "I never thought that Huang He would really eat them, putting them one after another into his mouth. I really wanted to throw up, I had chills down my spine. I was scared to tears." Huang He joked, "I was the one who had to eat the bugs, I didn't know why she was crying. However her frightened expression was very realistic, my bug eating didn't go to waste." * (2016/03/16) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Pakho Chau and Alex Lam Tak Shun yesterday went to dbc radio to promote their new film MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR (NGOR LO POR HAI MING SING). Playing Sum Yau's husband again, Pakho said that their intimate scene was only limited to a peck on the cheek. "The spirit of our film production isn't on the intimate scene." Sum Yau said that she knew Pakho was "loud" so she was fully prepared for their argument scene. "I had throat drops and honey, but after the shoot I still lost my voice." Pakho said that the director asked for a 5 minute long argument scene in one take. Finally they got it but his voice was hoarse afterward. * (2016/03/16) Emperor Entertainment yesterday held a 2016 Emperor Motion Picture Hong Kong Entertainment Expo event to announce 11 completed and in production films, staring with the Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and Karena Lam Ka Yun starred, Hong Kong Film Award nominated HEAVEN IN THE DARK (UM SIK TIN TONG). It also has William Chan Wai Ting and former Girl Generation member Jessica's I LOVE THAT CRAZY LITTLE THING (NA GEIN FUNG KONG DIK SIU SI GIU OI CHING), the Stanley Kwan Kam Peng produced BEGIN AGAIN (SAI SAI LEI YIM YEUNG HA), the Fruit Chan Gor directed and Hins Cheung King Hin's Latin dance movie SHINING MOMENT (CHAN LAN JEH YUT HAK), two Kara Wai Ying Hung starred film HAPPINESS (HUNG WON DIK NGOR) and MRS. K, the Yuen Woo Ping directed HAND OVER FIST (SUT JAP GO SAU), the Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Ge You starred COOK UP A STORM (KUET JIN SIK SUN), GAI YAU JAP FOR DIM (TROUBLE SOLVING STORE), the Benny Chan Muk Sing directed and Louis Koo Tin Lok starred MEOW (MEOW SING YUN), the Herman Yau Lai To directed and Anthony Wong Chau Sun starred SLEEP CURSE (SUT MIN). The host asked Hok Yau and Ka Yun if they were confident about winning Hong Kong Film Awards with HEAVEN IN THE DARK. Hok Yau said, "I am confident in Ka Yun, she is used to winning. Chau Sun was nominated and will win too. I am used to be nominated but I never win." Ka Yun instead picked Hok Yau to win. She said, "Even without an award, Hok Yau already won in my heart. He is a Best Actor!" Hok Yau joked, "That's right, she is already consoling me." However, Chau Sun who played Hok Yau's friend in the film watched the trailer and said that this Hong Kong Film Award will have a miracle, as both Best Actor and Best Actress will be from the same film. Since everyone picked Hok Yau, did he gain any confidence? Hok Yau said, "I don't have any expectation. I have already been nominated five times but I have never won. I don't dare to hope. (Who do you think is a rival, PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI)'s (Aaron) Kwok Fu Sing?) I haven't seen some movies yet. Sing Sing with PORT won the Directors' Guild Best Actor, his chances are a little better. Chau Sun only said that I would win to be generous, I am superstitious. I believe in fate." Why was he so disillusioned? Hok Yau said that earlier when he promoted FROM VEGAS TO MACAU 3 (DOH SING FUNG WON III), Chow Yun Fat kept telling people to give up the award to him. People felt sorry for him and sympathetic toward him. However, he thanked his colleagues for their love. Hok Yau felt that there was a reason that he has never won an award, perhaps his characters have not been to the voters' taste. Reportedly due to Hok Yau and former manager Chan Suk Fun's problems, his concert tour would be postponed? Hok Yau said that the concert has not been delayed. Later the company will make clarification. The tour will begin in the Mainland in October, the schedule will not have room for Hong Kong until December at the soonest. * (2016/03/16) Mei Ah Entertainment yesterday held a Hong Kong Film and Television Market press conference and announced its 2016 film projects. Aside from the Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Francis Ng Chun Yu and child star Angela Wang Shiling starred GIRL OF THE BIG HOUSE (BO BUI DONG GA), it will also make ON FALLEN WINGS (WU DIP GUNG MO), SING JEUNG (GROWING UP), WAN DOH YUT GEI (ISLAND DIARY), BRA BRA HUI NA YI (BRA BRA WHERE ARE YOU GOING) and GWAI FA PIU HEUNG (OSMANTHUS FLOATING HOME). Would Chun Yu want to try for a daughter? Chun Yu said that it will depend on fate. Girls would need to be spoiled. He did not know how to spoil anyone and would need to learn. Chun Yu earlier posted a photo with a medical mask on in a restaurant and said that living in Hong Kong was freer. Mainlanders told him not to go to the Mainland; Chun Yu helplessly said, "I get yelled at no matter what I post, they have a misunderstanding of me. I want to have a little fun with them, I can't control if they want to yell at me. I gladly accept it. If I swat on the streets they would tell me to go to the hospital anyway." He joked that it might be a fengshui problem and he had to make a living tomb. Chin Wa laughed like crazy and said that Chun Yu would never settle it even if he became vegetarian for life. Chin Wa recently kept working with children. She said that she has played young girl to middle aged woman, then to headmaster and parent. She hoped film would need Yeung Chin Wa at different stages. Chin Wa revealed that director Pang Ho Cheung planned to make LOVE IN A PUFF 3 (JI MING YU CHUN GIU 3) and is writing the script. She told the director to write faster and not to start production too late. She was afraid that she might not be able to perform because Cherie would get old. She hoped that it will start production this year. SUMMER SNOW (NUI YUN SEI SUP) was not longer right for her, if they kept waiting she would have to make A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). * (2016/03/16) Sun Entertainment yesterday held its Hong Kong Film and Television Market press conference for films NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI) and ROBBERY (LO LUP). Andy Hui Chi On, Janice Man Wing Shan, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Stanley Fung Shui Fan, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, J.Arie (Lui Sum Yu) and Anita Chui Bik Ka attended. Man Wing Shan performed in the buff in NESSUN. She revealed that a week before the shoot she did not sleep well as she had psychological obstacles to overcome. She said, "When I got the script I was already nervous for a month, I was even more tense when the production started. I remember the first day or two the scenes were very heavy, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to handle them. Maybe I really was too nervous, but after finishing that dark room scene I was very relaxed. Perhaps I knew what would happen, like I was a little used to it. (Did you need to see a doctor after the shoot?) In the film I had to see a doctor, I was OK. I just had to get over myself. The heavy scenes were rather enjoyable, the performance was rather tough since I had to collapse in every scene. (Did you ask for the set to be cleared?) The set had a lot of people, no matter what we had to have cinematographers and lighting. Of course the unrelated departments would leave. Since it was work we were all professionals. At the moment I wasn't in any mood to think anymore, I only focused on the character and ignored everyone around me." She said that on the set she walked back and forth. "That scene was shot in the dark room, basically I wasn't wearing anything. I only took safety precaution. If I sat in one spot on the site I couldn't rehearse, it would be impossible for me not to move for the marks. In other words I had to walk around. At first there weren't so many people. The rehearsal had a lot of people so I wore something. During the shoot I took it off." On Jai was asked if he was present for Man Wing Shan's nude scene. He said, "I was, I saw the sacrifice she made for this film. It was not only physical but mental as well. She was also able to give the director the feeling of being tortured. I felt very sorry for her, but helplessly this is what film production is like. (Did you look away or take a glimpse at her?) A glimpse? That's funny, of course I wouldn't! Many people were looking at her, I only looked to see if anyone was looking at her." On Jai said that the most memorable this time was the kiss scene with Man Wing Shan in the bathroom, on camera it had a type of romantic release. He was very afraid of scenes that felt like he was not wearing pants. "So I would be very quick about it, but she said to do it again slower, kiss her slower. I thought she was very professional, instead I always wanted to finish it faster. (You both had to be naked?) I was only topless, I had jeans on. To me it's not whether I was clothed or not, it's that feeling from a passionate kiss. Instead she taught me how to do it. (Would you ask your wife Sammi Cheng Sau Man to watch the movie?) Let's see if she has any time, she said that if she does she would show her support." * (2016/03/16) China 3D Digital yesterday held a Hong Kong Film and Television Market press conference. President Stephen Shiu Jr. led Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Gregory Wong Chung Hiu and Justin Cheung Kin Sing for an appearance. Stephen Shiu Jr. announced the company's film projects, including YUPPIE FANTASIA 3 (SIU NAM YUN JAU GEI 3 ji NG GA YAU NUI 33D). Cheng Tan Shui returned to YUPPIE FANTASIA after 25 years with Chau Sau Na as his 33D girlfriend. On the stage he even stated that he would beg Carol Cheng Yui Ling to return to play his wife. Brother Tan said, "I have never thought about making another one. Back then it was made because I had something to say, it captured Hong Kong's condition at the time and everyone could relate. Today I feel that I really have something to say again, I discover that talking about the current condition as a little guy is pretty interesting, pretty absurd. (Are you confident about getting Sister Do to perform?) Of course I know she has said many times that she wouldn't, but after I mustered up the courage to do this, many people told me that I had to ask Sister Do. I would try my best again to do it. (In the past Cherie Chung Chor Hung, Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam and others performed.) I would try my best to ask (Elizabeth) Lee Mei Fung and Kwan Chi Lam. It would be a very happy event, pretty perfect." Working with Chau Sau Na this time, he joked, "I asked for that, I really admire her. Last time in BREAK UP 100 (FUN SAU 100 CHI) she already proved that she had her own way of acting. Last time it benefited (Dior) Cheng Yi Kin, so this time I have no reason not to take advantage myself. She plays my lover, haha! (Will you arrange for any sexy scene?) It will be sharp with bed scenes." Chau Sau Na said, "Thank you Brother Tan for his admiration, I admire him too. YUPPIE is a novel that everyone is familiar with. I already liked it very much before. I never thought that I could play the protagonist Leung Foon's lover, which I thought was pretty cute. I am pretty relaxed, since we are working together again we will have chemistry." Wong Chung Hiu aside from starring in THE MENU (DOH FOR SUN MUN SIN) will direct for the first time WRITER'S LIE (JOK GA DIK FONG YIN). His friend Justin Cheung Kin Sing will be his star. Wong Chung Hiu said, "The boss is very daring, putting a pretty fun project in our hands. (How much will the film cost?) I don't know, I will try to save as much money as I can. Because the Hong Kong market is more difficult, I hope to be able to break even. (Did you save a character for your girlfriend?) I haven't thought of her yet. I am afraid that it would be very difficult for her to handle these characters in her first film, in addition she has never acted." * (2016/03/16) William Chan Wai Ting and former Girls' Generation member Jessica starred in the film I LOVE THE CRAZY LITTLE THING (NA GEIN FUNG KONG DIK SIU SI GIU OI CHING), which landed Nicholas Tse Ting Fung as its guest star. Chan Wai Ting thanked Ting Fung for his assistance despite being so busy, heading to Hawaii and working for a few days without rest or sleep. After the event ended, Chan Wai Ting will return to the Mainland to keep working on the film GENGHIS KHAN. He worked hard on gaining weight to play Genghis Khan and has already reached 150 pounds. He hoped to hit 170 pounds in two months. Now everyday he has 20 egg whites and no grease in his food, which made him very ill tempered. * (2016/03/16) Emperor Entertainment yesterday held its 2016 Emperor Motion Pictures projects and announced that among the 11 completed and in production films, Kara Wai Ying Hung has two. One was HAPPINESS (HUNG WON SI NGOR) with Carlos Chan Ka Lok, she played an Alzheimer's patient in the film. Siu Hung said that her mother in her 50s already had the illness. At the time she did not know, she even blamed and was less than understanding to her mother. She hoped that this film would make more people understand and care about the illness to make up for her regret and guilt inside. Another film was director Ho Yuhang's new film MRS. K. Siu Hung said that the director took 5 years to write the film for her, which forced her to make such a physically exhausting action film at age 55. Thus she already told boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing that after this film she would not make another action film. Two months before the shoot she began to rest and train. * (2016/03/16) Pegasus Motion Pictures two nights ago held its dinner, the president Raymond Wong Pak Ming announced several major projects, including 3 action films that would be tailored for Max Zhang Jin. 2016 releases will include the Lee Min-Ho starred BOUNTY HUNTER (SEUNG GUM LIP YUN); the Louis Koo Tin Lok, Julian Cheung Chi Lam and Vic Chou Yu Man starred S STORM (S FUNG BO) will open in the summer. In pre-production are the Ni Kuang novel adaptation THE WESLEY (WAI SI LEI), Fruit Chan Gor's DRAGON TATTOO (GAU LUNG BUK BAI) and new director Chan Tai Li's BLOSSOM AFRESH (WONG GUM FA). * (2016/03/15) Gregory Wong Chung Hiu, Justin Cheung Kin Sing and Catherine Chau Ka Yi yesterday attended their film THE MENU (DOH FOR SUN MUN SI)'s Hong Kong Entertainment Expo press conference. Wong Chung Hiu said that the film was in post production and hopefully will make its release before July 1st. Cheung Kin Sing said that the film had many ripped from the headline stories, to be accurate before its release they might have to shoot more scenes. Will they have to stay in production shape? Cheung Kin Sing was not worried and said that he gained and lost weight easily. Now he is at 162 pounds and he wants to gain 12 more pounds. Wong Chung Hiu in order to make the film gained weight until he got a big belly. Now he is trying to get back into shape for his next film and joked that any additional shoot will be a problem. Chau Ka Yi reprised her character and got back her television series feeling. She suggested to the boss that she hoped to make one movie a year. * (2016/03/15) Emperor Motion Pictures will invest HK$ 300 million on its first 4D film COOK UP A STORM (FUNG MEI GONG WU ji KUET JIN SIK SUN), in which Nicholas Tse Ting Fung will transform into a "Guangdong Cooking God" with Mainland Best Actor Ge You and Korean hunk Jung Yong-Hwa. Ting Fung even willingly gave up money making opportunities and turned down all performance opportunities for three months to concentrate on the film, losing over HK$ 100 million yuan RMB! The 4D film will be the first to bring together food, action, warmth and comedy into one. As Mainland cinemas began to add 4D equipment, Emperor developed 4D films according to the market for the audience to enjoy the film with sight, sound and smell. The film has already been conceived for two years, with a year of preparation this year it finally got the green light. The film will start production next month and will be released next Lunar New Year. The lead actress will be Mainland actresses Tiffany Tang Yan and Michelle Bai Bing. Ting Fung will be paired with Tang Yan, but they will not be a couple as she will have a crush on him. Jung Yong-Hwa will be paired with Bai Bing. Losing his father earlier, Ge You has not made a movie in a long time. Reportedly he was willing to make a "comeback" for this film because years ago when Emperor made LET THE BULLETS FLY he had a connection with boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing. This time Mr. Yeung personally convinced him. However his character will have to be kept confidential for now. Playing a "Michelin French chef" Jung Yong-Hwa had to take four days out of the week from his concert tour to make the film and two days to tour. He will spend a lot of time in the air! Emperor also will invest tens of millions RMB to build a food street in Master Checkley Sin Kwok Lam's Mainland studio, with a street stall and a Michelin restaurant. In addition, the film crew will even shoot on location in Prague and rent a castle for a three month long shoot. Producer Mani Fok Man Hei said that Ting Fung very much looked forward to work with Best Actor Ge You. For a perfect performance Ting Fung already turned down all jobs for three months and lost 100 million yuan RMB. She said, "Ting Fung has always been very demanding with his films, he would rather make less in order to make the best movie!" * (2016/03/15) Artists Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Bob Lam Sing Bun, director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) and Michael Ning (Bak Ji) yesterday attended the Film and Television Market to promote the Sun Entertainment films like LAUGH DETECTIVE (DUK L SUN TAM) and Z FOR ZOMBIES (GUM MAN DA SONG SI). In recent years Ah Chung and Bob have been highly productive in show business. This time Ah Chung even starred in both films. Bob propped him up. "Speaking of taking over, it has to be Cheung Kai Chung." Ah Chung was not proud as he joked that he hoped while Bob was busy to take a share of the dinner host market! Bob also hoped that when working with Ah Chung they could rekindle their television series spark. "When we made the series we made the crew cry for help, since we had a lot of our own ideas they laughed out of their minds." Ah Chung felt that it was a "dream" to be able to work with Bob on LAUGH and Bak Ji on SONG. "When Bob worked on the television series COME ON, COUSIN he already said that he wanted to make movies. Bak Ji and I grew up together like two brothers. I really like to watch zombie movies, like blocking the entire Nathan Road to fight zombie I finally have the chance." * (2016/03/15) The Hong Kong Film Award for the sixth year in a row receives full support from the Swiss watch and jewelry brand Piaget. This year's program theme is "Child Voices, Same Movie" as it invited Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Actress, Best Director and Best New Performer nominees to participate in the special photo shoot. They included Janice Man Wing Shan, Ng Yuen Yi, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Qin Hailu, Sisley Choi Sze Bui and J.Arie (Lui Sum Yu). Jessie Li (Chun Xia) with PORT OF CALL (DAP HUET CHUM MUI) was nominated for Best Actress and Best New Performer. Still inexperienced, she said that the first feeling she got when she learned about her nomination was vanity. However she would examine that again. "Actually everyone is the protagonist in his or her own life, only by playing the character like a life would I be able to receive other people's recognition." SHE REMEMBERS HE FORGETS (NA YUT TIN NGOR MOON WUI FEI)'s rising star Cecilia So Lai Shan was nominated for Best New Performer. She admitted that when she got the news from reporters, she was very nervous and excited. Faced with the strong competition, she already felt rather lucky just to be nominated. * (2016/03/15) The Benny Chan Muk Sing directed, Sammo Hung Kam Bo action directed new film CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING) yesterday held a Hong Kong International Film and Television Market press conference. Leads Louis Koo Tin Lok, Sean Lau Ching Wan and Eddie Peng Yu-Yan appeared with weapons in hand. Big Brother praised the three leads' performance as exceeding his expectation, especially Ching Wan who has not worked on any action scene. However Ching Wan in order to learn to use the long whip spent three to four days to practice, leaving him with whip marks all over his body. Yesterday Goo Jai, Ching Wan and Eddie held a gun, a metal whip and a blade on the stage. When the host asked Goo Jai to duel with Ching Wan's two meter long metal whip, was Goo Jai worried? Goo Jai joked, "It doesn't have to be big to be useful, mine is short but capable!" The host joked that Ching Wan's whip was two meter long, Ching Wan joked, "It's a known secret, the whip is even hotter!" He also pointed out that when using the long whip he hit himself the most. Action director Hung Kam Bo joked that Goo Jai acted well so he did not have to fight. He also praised Eddie for put his heart into his performance. Eddie was also a recognized hunk, Big Brother joked that he was more handsome than him 30 years ago. Later the three actors were interviewed. Ching Wan said that before the shoot he spent three or four days to practice, but during practice he did not use a metal whip but a softer one. However he still left one mark after another all over his body, if he used a real whip he believed that he would have been "busted open". Did he use a whip to hit Goo Jai? He said, "I didn't have a chance to hit Goo Jai, if I hit him I would be dead!" * (2016/03/15) Veteran Hong Kong director Stephen Shin Kei Yin yesterday promoted his new THE LAST RACE, his return to directing after 20 years. He said that over a decade ago he already came up with the idea for the film. Because the film was based on Olympic gold medalist Eric Liddell who returned to China and dedicated his life to education. Thus he spent years to prepare, interview Liddell's descendants and collect information. The film finally started production in January last year and was shot on location in the U.S., Canada and other places. Joseph Fiennes is the star of the film. Director Shin praised him for his seriousness and professionalism, very focused during the production. "Because the character couldn't drink, during the shoot he didn't touch a drop. Even when a liquor company wanted to sponsor us, he declined and stated that he did not want any alcohol to appear in the film." As for how difficult the shoot was, he said of course there were numerous. The most frequently seen was shooting winter scenes in the summer. * (2016/03/15) The 3D film SWORDMASTER (SAM SIU YEH DIK GIM) yesterday held a Hong Kong International Film and Television Market press conference. In attendance were executive producer Yu Dong, director Derek Yee Tung Sing, leads Lin Gengxin, Jiang Yiyan, Jiang Mengjie and Edward Gu Caobin. They talked about their production experience. The former "Third Young Master" Yee Tung Sing even presented his sword to the new generation "Third Young Master" Lin Gengxin. Lin Gengxin took a knee and accepted it. Using 3D to shoot a wuxia epic, Siu Bo said that both the time and the money were spent on special effects. Currently the film is still in post production in Beijing, the production cost is in hundreds of millions. He also said that this time producer Tsui Hark helped him a lot. Without him he could not have possibly finish the film. Lin Gengxin admitted that playing the Third Young Master was stressful. His previous film THE TAKING OF TIGER MOUNTAIN also had action scenes, but this time had a lot of fight scenes. Everyday he practiced with the stunt coordinators, every scene had to be rehearsed for a hour before shooting, by the time the production was wrapped up he was already exhausted and no longer as energetic as before. Siu Bo praised him. "He is very obedient and tamed, in addition he is better than me. When I played Third Young Master I was 19 and too immature. He at age 26 is more suitable, he also looks manlier. He originally has a little sorrow. Now I don't even dare to watch my performance again." Speaking of Nicky Wu (Ng Kei Lung) and Liu Shishi's Bali wedding, was Lin Gengxin invited? He said that he got wedding candy and knw that they would invite their families and fewer industry insiders. * (2016/03/15) The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Charlie Yeung Choi Nei and Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting) starred COLD WAR 2 (HONG JIN 2) will open this summer. Aside from the aforementioned original cast members, Chow Yun Fat will join the cast. The film yesterday released its first concept poster and trailer. Leung Ka Fai, Kwok Fu Sing and Chow Yun Fat kept taking aims at each other. The Kwok Fu Sing played police commissioner Lau Kit Fai first issued a warning, "If you take another step, I will start a war with you!" Leung Ka Fai as Lee Man Bun replied boldly, "I am happy to comply!" Ka Fai said, "How can I so easily concede, this time I am absolutely prepared to show you Lee Man Bun with a lot of 'depth'." In the trail Chow Yun Fat appeared in a suit and glasses. Following 4 years ago Andy Lau Tak Wa's guest starring role as the Security Bureau Secretary had classic line, "Under extreme circumstances you take extreme measures." Chow Yun Fat as the judge in COLD WAR 2 displayed his presence with "Even under extreme circumstances, extreme measures can't be used." * (2016/03/15) Leon Lai Ming yesterday as the event ambassador attended the 2016 Hong Kong Entertainment Expo launch ceremony and the 20th Hong Kong International Film and Television Market and the 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival celebration party with financial secretary John Tsang Chun Wa, Hong Kong Trade Development Council executive director Margaret Fong Shun Man, Hong Kong TDC Film, Television and Entertainment Industry Advisory Committee president Terry Lai, the State Administration for Radio, Film and Television Television Series secretary Li Jingsheng and others. The host asked Leon as a record company boss, singer and actor, what was Hong Kong film and television entertainment's greatest advantage? He said that Hong Kong has many elders who are making movies around the world. They have a lot of information and experience that they can share with the next generation of show business workers. Has he paid attention to new development in entertainment? He said, "Actually every second of every minute everyone can stream, especially now with so many different internet world we can see what happens in Hong Kong everyday at any time. Hong Kong also know every minute what series it the most popular around the world. Everyone can completely interact, including many foreign television companies setting up television stations in Hong Kong for everyone to be able to watch overseas series through different channels." He felt that every corner of the world would have the chance to make show business even better. Hong Kong's advantage is a foundation. Everyone continues to properly take advantage of it, as long as they continue to do their best with heart and innovation then they are OK. * (2016/03/15) Director Wong Jing yesterday attended the Hong Kong International Film and Television Market 2016 forum and pointed out that the real Hong Kong film golden age was the 70s to the 90s. At the time it had the Taiwan market's support. This large market was enough to support the cost. Later because the Taiwan market shrank, Hong Kong film lost its big market and was unable to get large financing like it did in the past. The film budgets declined. He too had to survive with HK$ 3 million budget films. However, from 2009 to now the Chinese market rapidly rose. He believed that the Chinese market's annual total revenue could exceed the U.S. in two years to become the world's largest film market. Brother Jing admitted that Hong Kong film had to connect with the Mainland to be able to go international. "If a pure Hong Kong film investment exceeds HK$ 7 million, it already has a huge chance at a loss and the production still can't be high quality. If it is a co-production, the funding can reach HK$ 200 million and may be close to Hollywood class B films. Only this way can it have a chance to be recognized and be popular with the audience. Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) was a good example." * (2016/03/15) The Janice Man Wing Shan, Max Zhang Jin, Gordon Lam Ka Tung and others starred, Paco Wong and Soi Cheang Po Shui produced film THE BRINK (KONG SAU) yesterday held a press conference. Shawn Yue Man Lok who will play a robber in the film was unable to appear but sent a video to show his support. Paco revealed that THE BRINK will cost 100 million RMB and start production in April. The film will shoot on location in many places like Hong Kong, Thailand, and the Mainland. The film will have a Number 8 Storm Signal robbery and an underwater fight scene, which scared Janice Man due to her fear of water. She even revealed that she had the nickname was "Man Pa Shui" (Man Afraid of Water, mosquito repellent homophone). JM revealed, "I drowned when I was little and felt like I almost died, since then I had a phobia. I would be scared even in a swimming pool. I tried to learn to swim but was never able to. It's very stressful. I hope this scene can be done with special effects." JM said that this time the director played a big prank on her, luckily she will not have to fight. Earlier in another film she performed in the buff, was she more afraid of that than going into the water? She said without any hesitation. "I am more afraid of scenes in the water, this is not the usual phobia." Ka Tung in order to handle this underwater scene will train more and buy more insurance. Zhang Jin agreed that working in the water was more difficult. Although he knew how to dive, he was not professional enough so he will need some training. Will he get more insurance like Ka Tung? He said, "I need to for every movie, every movie is dangerous for me. (Would your wife be very worried?) She liked to dive too. She does a lot better than me, but I will perform the stunts. This time aside from fighting I will also have scenes in the air." Paco said that he wanted to make Zhang Jin into a lead actor. Because earlier when he worked on SPL 2 (SAT POR LONG 2) they have already had good performance, at the time they started talking about this film's script; next week he will attend Nicky Wu (Ng Kei Lung)'s wedding. He was very happy for the new couple, but since they have a lot already the gift was giving him a headache. * (2016/03/14) Bob Lam Sing Bun starred in the new film NGOR YIU FAT DAT (I WANT TO BE RICH) started production two days ago and shot a video. Bob was dressed an uncle and screamed on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui "I want to be rich" and urged people to join in. Fans who had no idea were stunned! The 15 minute video went viral online. Bob said, "That take took eight or ten times before director Yip Lim Sum (Patrick Kong) accepted it. I am inevitably nervous about the first time as the lead actor. I give myself pressure. When I took my place luckily Director Yip taught me how to get into character. Finally it was successfully finished." Bob in the film played an ordinary person full of family pressure. Yet after winning the lottery a series of story took place. "Director Yip told me to watch old films like CHICKEN AND DUCK TALK (GAI TUNG NGAP GONG) for homework. In the film (Rose) Chan Ka Wun found out that I won the lottery and immediately came to seduce me. We shot that as soon as work started! (How lucky are you?) She is very professional, everyone is just creating comedic effect! (Did you get a raise?) I get to the lead actor! They both said that the film script attracted them, as it peeled away layer by layer to discover the unfathomable depth of the other side of humanity. Sil-Metropole used the HEARTFALL ARISES battle of wits as blue print to turn their Hong Kong Film and Television Market display into a set in the film for visitors to experience the atmosphere in the film first hand. * (2016/03/13) The Sean Lau Ching Wan and Louis Koo Tin Lok starred film CALL OF HEROES (NGAI SING) turned the LA BRASSIERE (JUET SAI HO BRA) film series' bosom buddies into deadly rivals. The Ching Wan played village security had to arrest and kill him for revenge, but Goo Jai still smiled with a lot of malice. The Benny Chan Muk Sing directed film of course had a lot of action. Ching Wan who rarely made fight scenes in CALL OF HEROES had to personally perform his stunts. Eddie Peng Yu-Yan and Wu Jing also had many action scenes. The story took place in the early Republic era, but it still added Chan Muk Sing's beloved explosion scenes with a lot of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI impression. The best part was in the end of the trailer Peng Yu-Yan with a mustache still remembered to call himself "handsome" in front of the camera. * (2016/03/13) Media Asia purchased the Japanese classic film MANHUNT's rights for a remake and put it in the hands of director John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) to remember friend and the previous version's lead actor Ken Takakura. In the new version Zhang Hanyu will play the prosecutor. For the police officer in pursuit of him, Ng Yu Sum has always wanted Japanese god Takuya Kimura for the role. However Kimura finally turned it down due to scheduling conflict. Finally another Japanese god Masaharu Fukuyama caught his eye. Reportedly in order to successfully convince Fukuyama, Ng Yu Sum already personally flew to Japan to discuss the script several times before Fukuyama agreed. Ng Yu Sum asked James Yuen Sai Sun for an all new adaptation. The film originally was to start production in January but because Yuen Sai Sun replaced Chan Hing Ka as the screenwriter in the last minute, finally it was postponed until June to start production. Media Asia said, "The film will start production around June in Osaka, Japan. Because the cast has not been completely confirmed, we can't make any announcement for now. Whether on or off camera he was like he was a boss possessed, boldly saying that he would leave the fighting to his top guys and asked how would the boss know how to fight? To Man Chak was both the producer and the star. In the film he played a mob boss who was just released from prison. After returning to the mob he challenged for the throne. Earlier To Man Chak, Philip Keung Ho Man, Lam Wai and others worked on location in a Tsim Sha Tsui sauna shop. In the story To Man Chak and his top guy Hak Jai brought over 60 followers to crash the shop and demand to take over control. However Lam Wai who played the sauna boss struggled with To Man Chak and Hak Jai during negotiation and even busted bottles during the fight. For this bottle busting scene, the trio practiced their stunts. The funniest part was that Ah Jat joked luckily screen writer Lee Man wrote well. Otherwise Lam Wai would have killed him because he did not know how to fight. He said, "I don't know how to fight, leave it to my top guy! How can a boss know how to fight." When asked why he chose to make a mob film. Producer Ah Jat stated that many viewers like it. In addition Hong Kong in recent years had very few films of the subject. "Everyone would accept these subjects, from Wong Fei Hung to Chan Ho Nam! For 100 years of Hong Kong after Kwan Tak Hing's Wong Fei Hung came Cheng Yi Kin's Chan Ho Nam, in addition this type of subjects are few and far between now. Everyone is going back to the Mainland to make movies. It's very hard to make this subject in the Mainland, but in Hong Kong it can be made. In particular Hong Kong viewers really like to watch heavy Hong Kong style mob flavor films. Speaking of the film's casting of many fellow actors with ATV background like Keung Ho Man, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Lam Wai and Wong Chun Fung, did he deliberately want to have a reunion with his former co-workers? Ah Jat said that this collaboration did not just come from a reunion, only that they were right for the characters. He joked, "I didn't ask them just because I deliberately wanted a reunion. Now with Hong Kong films without Hak Jai can you make one? It's very hard to annoy him. I am very happy to see the entire group again. The last time Hak Jai and I worked together was already the ATV era. However we still had to see if the character was right. If I have to find someone I know each time, why didn't I ask my Ma?" Playing To Man Chak's top guy, Hak Jai revealed that he had scenes with the king maker in the film Wong Chau Sun. He even stated that he has always admired him very much. He said, "I feel Chau Sun is very dominant, an actor with quite a presence. (Did you learn a lot from him?) How can it be so easy to learn! I really admire him." Lam Wai said that he was very happy to work with a group of former ATV actors. "When I was at ATV I couldn't see them. Seeing them here again I am very happy. I thank Ah Jat very much for asking me. Being able to work with Hak Jai and Ah Jat on a movie, to me it is very rare because I work on television more." * (2016/03/13) Artists Bryant Mak Chi Lok, Don Li Yat Long, Shay Liu Yin Hei attended a rowing event. In this film they will already be divorced. Reportedly from Sister Na's company Jeannie Chan Ying and Shiga Lin Si Nga will perform as well. Sister Na said, "THE YUPPIE FANTASIA is a very classic novel. When I was little I came in contact with its film and once fantasized about having a boyfriend like Leung Foon. Now it is its 30th anniversary, I am happy to be Leung Foon's girlfriend. Leung Foon has to be Brother Tan, he is very convincing. Leung Foon is up there in age, which is pretty good. He is mature and stable, treats me well like a little sister. Girls just want someone to love them." Since Cheng Tan Shui's radio play THE YUPPIE FANTASIA was aired, films THE YUPPIE FANTASIA and BRIEF ENCOUNTER IN SHINJUKU were made. This year happened to be its 30th anniversary. Thus Cheng Tan Shui had the idea of making another film. Aside from starring he will direct and write. "Actually for a long time many people wanted me to make another film, but I was never able to find the angle. Later I thought of Sister Do Do and I got divorced. She took their 8 year old daughter with her. One day someone rang the doorbell and the daughter came back to look for her dad as an adult with a 33D figure, just like my girlfriend Chau Sau Na. After that I wouldn't even dare to touch my girlfriend. Hok Yau said, "At dinner they would get food for each other, the director sometimes would praise my performance and Ka Yun would whine. 'What about me?' They are very hard to take! If the director only shot her and not me it would be normal, since Ka Yun was his wife at least there would be an explanation. It would have nothing to do with my poor performance." Ka Yun also said that her first collaboration with husband Yuen Kim Fai was not awkward at all. "I told him that he doesn't have to ask me to perform. If another actor else is even more suitable it's OK. However he said that when he wrote the script he was thinking of me. So I would play the role. In recent years she kept challenging herself and took some more difficult roles, like last year in the film HELIOS (CHET DOH) she played a cold blooded killer and did not hold back in her fight scenes at all. Even Best Actress Shu Qi praised her online. The film even earned her a Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress nomination this year. Most recently, JM challenged herself again when she took the role in the Herman Yau Lai To directed suspense NESSUN DORMA (HUNG SAU WAN MEI SHUI). In the film she played a psychologically complex, heavy character. She even had a naked torture scene! Faced with an unprecedented challenge, JM admitted that she thought about the role for awhile before taking it. "I really had to overcome a lot of mental obstacles! After getting the script I spent two weeks to consider it. I met with director Yau Lai To several times and thought that I didn't want to miss out on such a good character. So in the end I decided to take it! However the week before the production started I was worried about a lot. I was very uncertain. Aside from that scene, I even worried if I would be able to drive the character? How would I be able to give the performance layer? I had a lot to think about and had a lot of pressure, I couldn't sleep for an entire week!" Luckily, insomnia vanished gradually as the film started production. JM finally was able to successfully play the character. Even director Yau Lai To praised her performance. Speaking of that scene, she admitted that before the shoot she was still very scared. Yet after taking her place she did not think about anything at all and just let go. "Since I took the role, I had to do my best! During the shoot the set wasn't really cleared. I only wanted to play the character well, so as soon as the cameras rolled I was in character. I didn't have time to think about anything else. I was neither awkward nor scared. Every shot took only one or two takes. It was very smooth!" In the film, JM's relationships with Gordon Lam Ka Tung and Andy Hui Chi On were very complicated. She thanked both, especially Ka Tung for teaching her a lot. "They both were great, now everyone have become good friends. Ka Tung is an outstanding co-star, he can very quickly bring me into character." Later she will work on the Soi Cheang Po Shui produced KONG SAU (WILD BEAST). With a Hong Kong Film Award nomination this year was she heading toward Best Actor? She ambitiously said, "This time I really gave my all, of course I hope to have results! Thank you to all the directors and film companies for giving me opportunities." Her salary of course rose as well. Reportedly JM's has already doubled from 1 to 2 million. He believed that every horse owner was fully confident in their horses, otherwise they would not invest so much time on them. Chi Tan said that since he was so busy with work he could only leave the responsibility of picking out a horse for Karson Choi and his wife Cissy Wang. Finding an action actress was not easy in this business. His sister has been studying martial art since she was little, her kung fu was better than many. Did he personally invite his sister to make movies? He said that it was all in the family. As for working as siblings it would depend on the arrangement and the company would fairly handle that. Siblings had to rely on their own hard work and substance to have jobs. Chi Tan with IP MAN 3 was nominated for the Asian Film Award Best Actor against Feng Xiaogang and Lee Byung-Hun. Chi Tan was relaxed and said that winning Best Actor only meant an extra award at home. He had to be more open minded with awards, and everyone had their own opinion on how his performance was. It was the most important for viewers to like it. Yet IP MAN 3's Mainland box office was being questioned? Chi Tan replied, "The most important for an actor was to do his part. Film at each place would have its own distribution methods, all actors can do is their best with their roles." He also pointed out that IP MAN 3 broke many box office records and received some film award nominations. He said, "Box office was only passing clouds, how the audience felt after watching was the most important!" [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 12 2016, FILM WORDS ROMANTIC NOSTALGIA, TWO WELL MADE Among this week's new films, I like the English film BROOKLYN and Japanese film JOURNEY TO THE SHORE. Both are nostalgic romance but they differ drastically in genre. JOURNEY TO THE SHORE Quiet And Low Key As for the Kiyoshi Kurosawa directed JOURNEY TO THE WEST, it is a quiet and low key ghost film. Eri Fukatasu plays a piano teacher whose late husband Tadanobu Asano suddenly returns home to go on a farewell journey to visit old friends with her. This ghost is not horrifying at all and can live normally in the day. His old friends included a newspaper delivery old man, dumpling store couple, mountain villager. Some are human and some are ghosts, each have something that they cannot forget. This ghost film is very realistic, with emotional sentimentality flowing between life and death. Tadanobu Asano teaches the mountain village young and old and explains Einstein physics. Eri Fukutasu discovers her late husband once has an affair. She deliberately looks for this romantic rival to meet, and creates a very unique situation. (three and a half out of five star) IGIRL Silly Inside And Out A new Hong Kong film also tries science fiction in the Kam Ka Wai directed IGIRL (IGIRL MUNG CHING YUN). Three heartbroken buddies Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Dominic Ho Ho Man and Lam Tsz Chung buy three obedient female robots Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Connie Man Hoi Ling and Joyce Cheng Yun Yi online and adventures ensue. This romantic comedy has some laughs but silly inside and out in a very childish way. (two out of five stars) KILL TIME Is Rather Messy Fruit Chan Gor adapted the Mainland novel KILL TIME in the Mainland with Angelababy and Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin). It is a romantic mystery that is full of twists and turns. The production scale is larger than his previous film THE MIDNIGHT AFTER (NA YEH LING SUN, NGOR JOR SEUNG LIU WONG GOK HOI WONG DAI PO DIK HUNG VAN). Chan Gor stays true to his grass root specialty and does not cook up anything luxurious and innovative. Instead the film investigates several romantic murders over several generations and traces back to Cultural Revolution wounds and civilian laborer pains. The structure is not very simple, unfortunately the romance and the mystery are both too complex and coincidental. Overall it is rather messy and the performance comes up short. (two out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 2. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 11 2016, FILM AND TELEVISION MARKET TREND LONDON HAS FALLEN RISES TO THE TOP Last week's box office finally shook off the New Spring slot blockbusters' "threats". Newly released Hollywood action film LONDON HAS FALLEN made HK$ 5.43 million in first place. Three years ago its predecessor OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN made HK$ 9.53 million, defeating its "twin" WHITE HOUSE DOWN's HK$ 7.52 million. We shall see if the sequel will make any breakthrough; this film opened in the U.S. last week and made US$ 23.29 million. GODS OF EGYPT made HK$ 5.41 million in second place, losing to LONDON by a nose; this film already opened last week in the U.S. and made US$ 23.47 million. The Best Supporting Actress Oscar award winner THE DANISH GIRL made HK$ 5.23 million in third place, over two weeks it made HK$ 8.45 million. As you can see the award has brought a box office increase. MERMAID (MEI YUN YUN) made HK$ 3.61 million in fourth place, over five weeks it made HK$ 54.19 million; the disaster at sea film THE FINEST HOUR made HK$ 3.2 million in fifth place, over two weeks it made HK$ 7.71 million. MERMAID's top Lunar New Year competition DEADPOOL made Hk$ 2.84 million, over four weeks it made HK$ 56.93 million and still had a solid victory. The Best Actress Oscar winner ROOM opened with HK$ 1.26 million in seventh place, not as lucky as THE DANISH GIRL. The Best Foreign Film Oscar SON OF SAUL made HK$ 198,000 in seventeenth place, with advanced screenings it made HK$ 210,000. MISS YOU ALREADY made HK$ 168,000 in nineteenth place, with advanced screenings it made HK$ 173,000; the Hong Kong film BULLY (SI AK JEH) made HK$ 66,000 in twenty third place; the most brutal was the Korean film THE MAGICIAN, making HK$ 24,000 in twenty ninth place. As for the Mainland box office, IP MAN 3, which made HK$ 60 million last Christmas in Hong Kong, opened last week in the Mainland with 469.5 million RMB in first place. Another co-production film performed well. Hollywood animation ZOOTOPIA made 156 million RMB in second place. This week opened simultaneously in the U.S. and made US$ 79.6 million. In Hong Kong it will open on March 24. MERMAID made 146 million RMBin third, over four weeks it made 3,280,860,000 RMB; THE MONKEY KING 2 (SAI YAU GEI ji SUEN NG HUNG SAM DA BAK GWUT JING) made HK$ 35 million in fourth place, over four weeks it made 1,184,950,000 RMB; FROM VEGAS TO MACAU 3 (Mainland title THE MAN FROM MACAU 3) made 24.5 million RMB in fifth place, over four weeks it made 1,109,790,000 RMB. In additoin, two new foreign films opened. THE NOVEMBER MAN made 15.7 million RMB in seventh place. This film opened in Hong Kong in October two years ago and made HK$ 2.54 million in an average showing; the Chilean mine disaster film THE 33 made 13.9 million RMB in eighth place. This film opened in Hong Kong in January and made HK$ 1.35 million. - LAM KAM BO 3. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 10 2016, ASIAN FILMS FROM IFVA SHORT FILM CONTEST, A GLIMPSE OF THE FILM INDUSTRY NEW GENERATION This week the Hong Kong film industry starts to give away report cards. Aside from the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award on Monday that presented the awards to the already announced winners, last Saturday the 21st Incubator for Film and Visual Media in Asia) also announced its competition results. - HUNG KWONG This year's IFVA competition open category gold prize went to Wong Wai-Nap's THE SEA WITHIN. The film was about a fisherman couple Sing and Mei Wa, and their lives from the sea to the shore. After their children grew up, they had their own views on life. Sing neglected the decline of the fishing industry and wanted to continue to fish at sea. Mei Wa wanted to have a stable family. Thus they traversed between reality and ideal, persistence and compromise. Open Category Gold Prize Is Full of Society Nostalgia THE SEA WITHIN was like last year's category winner 32+4 in that both directors used their parents as subjects. One was dramatic and the other documentary in their genres, displaying two completely different feeling. 32+4 was a strong and painful self examination, THE SEA WITHIN started with the director's family. The director's parents played themselves. The film's light style reminded people of Allen Fong Yuk Ping. With a rather high rate of completion visually, the silver prize film THE FOOD FASCISTS criticized Hong Kong people's food culture and the entire world's view through a chef's display of a variety of fantastic dishes. Both gold and silver prize films were 2014 Fresh Wave Film Festival award winners. THE SEA WITHIN was also Fresh Wave's big prize winner. The two competition's similar result was a phenomenon that was rarely seen in recent years. In the past Fresh Wave films in IFVA competition often showed the different tastes of the two juries. In comparison to the display of society nostalgia in the gold and silver prize films, the two special mention films were drastically different. FROM BEAVIS (M) TO BEATRICE (F) was the director's sex crossing self recording, the subject was special but the format was still close to the private subject documentary that often appeared in this race. Not even bothering with a Chinese title, SOD-032 with the Japanese love declaration as its title was fully playful game. In the story an otaku Yosuke programmed an artificial intelligence woman Alice accidentally became real. Alice knew that Yosuke appeared weak and scared in front of Miyuki, the classmate he likes and thus set a battle plan for him. Only Yosueke accidentally gave Alice a computer virus, after days of working on her he still was unable to revive Alice. He could only rely on his own strength to complete the love battle. While appearing to be a completely Japanese story, the characters in the film also spoke "Japanese" and displayed on the screen was also virtual Japanese scenery, this actually was a "Hong Kong film" born and raised. The director used a variety of technique to transform Hong Kong's environment into Japan and very seriously made a game film. The IFVA competition once was the place where the new generation of Hong Kong filmmakers like Pang Ho Cheung and Adam Wong Sau Ping displayed their talent, even Jia Zhangke began here. Aside from filmmakers, social movement people also used visual work in this competition to raise their voices. Ultimately which road would this year's winners would take, it was still very hard to say. No matter what, they were still considered young filmmakers. Short film contest participants were young people, which seemed to be the norm locally. Yet in the Asian New Force overseas category, outside Hong Kong short film makers were far from just film new comers. Asian New Force Category Films Are Mature This year's Asian New Force category award winners were all from Western and Southern Asia. The gold prize winner PLAYGROUNDS was about a Indian rickshaw driver's ethical choice when he accidentally "picked up" a street kid, and the difference between city and country, the rich and the poor behind the matter. Silver prize film was Iran's UNFORTUNATELY, which was about the dark side of family. A man told his wife's sister about his wife's affair. The entire film was only formed with a few scenes but contained powerful tension. Turkey's THE TRANSLATOR touched up the hot topic of refugees. How would a 13 year old little refugee used his own language advantage to win the heart of a girl who was two years older than him? All three film directly faced the local problems of society, sex, religion, politics and the like. In addition they were obviously more mature creatively and in production than domestic films. These films often had the support of their own film and television industry, proving that short film was not just limited to amateurs. Of course, the most surprising film was the jury recommended (in other words not selected) Japanese film GOOD YEAR. The director was Kaizo Hayashi, and the star was Masatoshi Nagase. Who said short film was only the stepping stone for feature film. It completely could have its own grammar in its creative format. Aside from the two aforementioned categories, this year IFVA's award winners also included in the Youth category Yip Yuen Ching's OXYGEN (gold), Cheng Kui Sum and Wong Chun Lung's WHEN THE SUN GOES DOWN (silver), and three special mention films: Savio Ho Yui Chi's THE DORMER, Wu Tin Long's ALL I WANT and Keung Shing Lok's WHITEBOARD. The animation category award winners were Ho Chu Yu's BEHIND THE SCHOOLBAG (gold prize), Lam Ho Tak, Kwok Man Ho and Ng Kai Chung's SHEAR MARKS (silver), two special mention films were Lo Hin Kit's MUR MUR, and Louise Pau Ching Yee's EYE'M FREE 4. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 10 2016, LIGHT SHADOW PATH "PTICHING IDEAS" DETERMINES SUCCESS OR FAILURE Whether you are trying to start a business, find funding or make movies, you have to go through the process of "pitching ideas". This "pitching ideas" segment determines success or failure, the side that is "listening to ideas" have the right to determine life or death. They are investors, investor representatives, the government or public organization experts. In film "listening to ideas" are mostly bosses or experienced filmmakers. Thus the "pitching ideas" side must be careful and minimize mistakes, otherwise their wishes would be hard to come true. Recently I met with some who were "pitching ideas" with several industry insiders and discovered some frequently seen problems that were worth analyzing. One of them only had 20 minutes to analyze the Hong Kong flm trend of the past 20 years. He felt that in comparison to the 80s it is too far apart, completely lackluster. Finally he pointed out that his film story was era defining. His views and abilities will open the eyes of the film industry. In other words, another genius was born. We of course would gladly see the birth of a genius to make the Hong Kong film industry even more vibrant, but what we needed to know more was his project content. He did not further introduce it. The biggest mistake was that he harshly criticized Hong Kong films of the past 20 years, several of which were green lit into production by those who were "hearing the ideas". He created an awkward situation without knowing it, his mistake was he was only concerned with bluffing without any practical interpretation of the idea's content. Another film project was a story about dogs. Someone suggested that working with dogs would not be easy, why more time and budget were not allocated in this area. The person actually said that working with dogs was just like working with people. As long as he communicated with them he was fine, it would not be time consuming at all. Film already has a 100 years of history, everyone recognizes that "animals and children" would require a lot of time to shoot. This person actually did not agree, like another genius was born. Not to say "pitching ideas", even in an average conversation or discussion, when you make a mistake you must face it. You would not quibble. Some minor mistakes are inevitably, but quibbling would drastically reduce the investor's trust. You are only make the matter worse for yourself. Another story is about "sexual orientation". The person who was "pitching the idea" spent most of the time with criticizing modern Hong Kong people's "antiquated" "traditional" ideas about sex, which "oppressed" "advanced" ideas about sex. He too wasted a lot of time on abstract problems. Those who were listening only got more confused, feeling that he had "oppression paranoia". In the end, the person who was "pitching ideas" said that story was based on a true story. Finally he had some useful information. The problems of these cases wasted the "pitching ideas" time in pointless boasting, complaints and disputes. Why were they this way? It is a question in a deeper layer that we will continue discussing next time. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] THE BRINK Can : Kong Sau Lit : Wild Beast d. With the opening of the border to China, new codes and mores make their way into the world of the triads – and those who don’t adjust their business models have already lost. A genre film from Hong Kong that chooses to set its story during those years of turmoil is tantamount to a double swan song. For these political changes also effectively spelled the end of an independent Hong Kong cinema that was admired across Asia. One of the few directors who has continued to defend and develop the genre is Johnnie To. By producing TRIVISA, To is flying the flag for three up-and-coming directors who tell the stories of three legendary gangsters of the period. This is not an anthology film, but rather an overlapping story of men who become victims of their own legends. As chance brings them all together one day in the same restaurant on the Chinese side of the border, rumours swirl that the three are planning a joint coup. In elegant fashion, hype and hubris lead to their downfall. (Christoph Terhechte) MY WIFE IS A SUPERSTAR Can : Ngor Lo Por Hai d. Using his deep knowledge of the train network, he and his men sabotage it, ambushing Japanese soldiers and stealing supplies to feed the starving Chinese. Although the freedom fighters have no weapons of their own, they employ whatever tools are at hand, including shovels, loose railway track planks and diverted trains. The local Chinese call the unlikely heroes the "Railroad Tigers". The freedom fighters find themselves on the wrong side of the tracks when the Japanese send reinforcements to Shandong. In an act of defiance, Ma Yuan launches his most dangerous mission yet, blowing up a heavily-guarded railroad bridge. When the Japanese learn of the crippling plan, which will derail the war effort, the stakes are raised even higher. --- [ Entertainment URL ] MEDIA ASIA http://www.mediaasia.com EMPEROR MOTION PICTURES http://www.emp.hk PEGASUS MOTION PICTURES http://www.pegasusmovie.com WE PICTURES http://www.wepictures.com CINEMA POPULAR http://www.cinemapopular.com MEI AH http://www.meiah.com NEW ASIA ENTERTAINMENT GROUP http://www.aeghk.com GOLDEN SCENE http://www.goldenscene.com Commercial Radio http://www.crhk.com.hk Television Broadcast Limited http://www.tvb.com.hk --- [ NORTH AMERICA AREA CONCERTS ] * VIVIAN CHOW DATE AND TIME: Sunday, June 12 2016 @ 7PM Monday, June 13 2016 @ 8:30 PM VENUE LOCATION: Avalon Ballroom Theatre Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort 6380 Fallsview Boulevard, Niagara ON L2G 7X5 Canada http://www.fallsviewcasinoresort.com/entertainment/event/vivian-chow TICKET OUTLET LOCATIONS: TICKETMASTER CANADA http://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/100050659E6516E7 http://www.ticketmaster.ca/event/100050659E6216E5 * KAREN MOK REGARDEZ WORLD TOUR DATE AND TIME: Sunday, June 12 2016 @ 7:30 PM VENUE LOCATION: Casino Rama 5899 Rama Road Rama ON L0k 1T0 Canada TICKET PRICES: CA$ 388, 298, 198, 168, 98, 68 TICKET OUTLET LOCATION: ONLINE: HTTPs://www.casinorama.com/live/ * KAREN MOK REGARDEZ WORLD TOUR DATE AND TIME: Friday, June 10 2016 @ 7:30 PM VENUE LOCATION: The Forum 3900 W Manchester Blvcd.
