His recent film THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) as of two days ago made HK$22 million in Hong Kong and over 220 million in the Mainland. With these two films, Ka Fai has become a film star with box office guarantee. Film companies have automatically raised his salary to 12 million RMB in order to land him. In a year, Ka Fai's salary has gone from 4 million in the beginning of the year to 6 million, then in the second half of the year it was increased to 8 million. Then the most recent price has already reached 12 million, as he is worth as much as Louis Koo Tin Lok. Next February Ka Fai was rumored to star in the Bill Kong Chi Keung produced, Cheuk Wan Chi directed romantic comedy with Sammi Cheng Sau Man. He will perform for 12 million salary. Ka Fai said, "This film is in negotiation but nothing has been confirmed yet. Many films next years are in negotiation, so we haven't officially discussed salary! However I admit that the salary has been raised, film companies gave me the increase!" Ka Fai once said that he did not want to make another comedy, why would he make the exception? He joked, "Actually I just don't want to make repeated subject, I am not resistant to comedy. Like with GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS), I am mainly helping out (Sandra Ng) Kwan Yu. Cheuk Wan Chi's romantic comedy reflects current social conditions, the story is OK. Since I have never worked with Cheng Sau Man on a comedy, I am interested in clashing with her." * (2013/12/18) Jackie Chan recently has been busy with promoting his new film POLICE STORY 2013 (GAING CHAT GOO SI 2013). Two days ago he attended a Singapore press conference. Earlier he and co-star Jing Tian landed on the cover of BAAZAR MEN. Jackie Chan even picked her up with one arm. In her sexy black and white photo Jing Tian shared her performance experience and said that she was sometimes fragile and sometimes strong. She did not like to complain and she was direct like a guy. * (2013/12/18) Dedicated her life to art, Cantonese opera grand master of a generation Hung Sin Nui on the 8th passed away at the age of 89. Yesterday a farewell ceremony took place in the Guangzhou Funeral Home's White Cloud Hall. Over 300 people braved the wind and the rain to send Sister Nui on her final journey. National leaders and former leaders sent floral arrangements. Many important Mainland politicians attended. Sister Nui's favorite Andy Lau Tak Wa even came to pay his respect with his wife Carol Chu Lai Sin. The couple looked back at Sister Nui's remains several times. After the ceremony the remain was cremated. The Cantonese opera grand master of a generation thus was gone with the wind, leaving only her performance treasures forever. Hung Sin Nui's farewell ceremony took place yesterday and began around 10AM. Although Guangzhou was cold and rainy, starting from 8AM many Sister Nui's fans, people and students waited outside th hall with umbrellas to pay their respect. Yesterday over 3,000 people bid Sister Nui farewell, with over 1,000 floral arrangements from everywhere in the hall. Former Guangzhou city political consultative conference vice chair and multiple term National People's Congress representative, Sister Nui even received floral arrangements and condolences from many current and past national leaders, including Communist China national leader Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Yu Zhengsheng, Liu Yunshan and Wang Qishan. Former national leaders Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Zhu Rongji, Liu Yandong, Hu Chunhua sent floral wreaths. The altar was like a sea of flowers. Attending the funeral were Guangdong governor Zhu Xiaodan, Guangzhou Communist Party committee secretary Wan Qingliang, former governor Huang Huahua, former director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Gao Siren, and former Guangzhou Communist Party committee secretary Li Ziliu. Yesterday the banner over the hall read "Deeply Missed", while the two side couplets quoted Sister Nui. "Her life belonged to art, her art belonged to the people". Sister Nui's remains lay in a see through glass coffin in the center of the hall and was surrounded with flowers. A red blanket was placed over her remains. Sister Nui's classic LYCHEE SONG was played. Unfortunately the "Nui voice" has been silenced, making family and friends and fans' hearts ache even more. Yesterday the farewell ceremony took place around 10AM. Around 1,000 of Sister Nui's friends, disciples, colleagues, art and literary world luminaries and leaders filed into the hall, gave a moment of silence then three bows to Sister Nui. Many Hong Kong show business celebrities went to Guangzhou to pay their respects, including Mr. and Mrs. Andy Lau Tak Wa, Liza Wang Ming Chuen, Stanley Tong Kwai Lai, disciple Nam Hung and god sons Ng Yu and Kam Kwong Sing. Lau Tak Wa's wife Chu Lai Sin who rarely appeared in public removed her medical mask in the hall out of respect for Sister Nui. Yesterday morning Sister Nui's three children Ma Ting Cheung, Ma Ting Sing and Hung Hung as well as their children showed their appreciation from the family section to guests. At the farewell ceremony, second son Ma Ting Sing spoke on behalf of the family. He held back tears but choked on his words as he recounted Sister Nui's life. He said, "Hung Sin Nui was with the Motherland in honor and in shame, kind from the beginning to the end. Her life belonged to art, her art belonged to the people. Mother was an everlasting role model......" He could no longer hide his sorrow as he sobbed emotionally. His brother and sister comforted him. Ma Ting Sing was close to his mother. Thus during the viewing he was the most upset. His wife held onto himself tightly. After the farewell ceremony ended, Sister Nui's remains was transported to the crematorium for the cremation ceremony. Older son Ma Ting Cheung tearfully carried Sister Nui's photo out of the hall with her closest family and disciples. They then walked to the crematorium for bid Sister Nui farewell. After the crew explained the arrangement after the cremation to older son Ting Cheung, he signed the document then the family gav a final farewell bow to Sister Nui. Her ashes will be buried in the Guangzhou Yinhe public cemetery. Lau Tak Wa and his wife Chu Lai Sin have always been low key and rarely appeared in public, but yesterday they attended the funeral of their respected Cantonese Opera star of a generation Hung Sin Nui in Guangzhou together. During the funeral they often sobbed. During the viewing they took many glimpses as they obviously missed the elder. The focus remained on Chu Lai Sin's figure despite Wa Jai's numerous pregnancy denials. Wa Jai stayed close to protect her throughout. After Wa Jai attended the funeral of Chu Lai Sin's father in Kuala Lumpur, they held hands tightly when he returned to Hong Kong. Yesterday around 9AM, Wa Jai and Chu Lai Sin after a low key arrival lined up with other guests to enter the hall. With a serious look Wa Jai held the masked Chu Lai Sin's hand tightly. After entering the White Cloud Hall Chu Lai Sin removed the medical mask out of respect. During the ceremony, Wa Jai and Chu Lai Sin looked sadden. Chu Lai Sin's eyes were all red from crying as she often lowered her head to sob. Wa Jai also covered his face with his hand. At the viewing, Wa Jai and Chu Lai Sin held hands tightly as they reluctantly looked back several times. After the ceremony, Wa Jai walked out with Chu Lai Sin hand in hand as reporters flocked to them. Chu Lai Sin put on the mask again. Due to the rain, Wa Jai personally carried an umbrella and held onto his wife throughout attentively. Reporters asked Wa Jai many questions like his deep relationship with Sister Nui, but he did not reply. However, when he saw a reporter fell, he asked everyone to be careful. Chu Lai Sin's pregnancy rumor was rampant but Wa Jai denied it many times. Wa Jai once described his friendship with Sister Nui as "ageless". Back then at a large scale Cantonese opera promotional events, Sister Nui attentively instructed him acting techniques. Other guests included Wang Ming Chuen, Tse Suet Sum, Yuen Siu Fai and his wife, Tong Kwai Lai, Sister Nui's god son Kam Kwong Sing and Ng Yu, disciple Nam Hung and others; Ng Yu and Nam Hung were too sadden for any interview. Wang Ming Cheun attended as the Barwo Chinese artists association of Hong Kong chief to bid Sister Nui farewell. She appreciated Sister Nui for teaching her opera acting very much, and she benefited a lot from it. She praised Sister Nui was a pioneer in the Cantonese opera world, always leaving the most exciting performance. Sister Nui's passing was a loss to Cantonese Opera but she was also the best Cantonese Opera role model for later generations. Tse Suet Sum made the trip to bid Sister Nui farewell. She said that Sister Nui looked very peaceful. Her mentor Yam Kim Fai worked with Sister Nui many times. Sister Nui was born with a great voice that no one could replace. Tong Kwai Lai admired and worshiped Sister Nui very much, he came to pay respect to his elder. Sister Nui was very helpless to the younger generations, her passing was a regret for Cantonese Opera. The family distributed a memorial program, which documented Sister Nui's life and published valuable photos in detail in memory of this national treasure class Cantonese Opera diva. The cover was Sister Nui in her later years with the words "The life of Hung Sin Nui". The program held photos of Sister Nui in her youth as well as her performance photos. Contributing her entire life to art, she also contributed to her nation as the Guangzhou city political consultative conference vice chair, the second National political consultative conference member, and a representative at the third, fourth, sixth to ninth National People's Congress. She was also the director of the Hung Sin Nui Art Center. No wonder many high ranking politicians came to pay their respect. Starting her lesson at age 12 and her stage life at age 14, she created her own Cantonese opera "Hung Clan". She has played many classic roles in her life, like the Pipa holding ZHAOJUNG TO THE FRONTIER. Thus she received many Mainland and overseas honors like the Guangdong province first culture lifetime achievement award". In 2013 Sister Nui received the first World Cantonese "Top Ten Outstanding People", her final honor in her life. Sister Nui did her best to promote Cantonese opera and actively cultivated the younger generations. Her artistic achievements have been witnessed by all. The back cover of the program read "Her life belonged to art, her art belonged to the people", which was exactly the portrait of Sister Nui's life! Legislative Council member Ma Fung Kwok, Wong Kwok Hing, Fok Chun Ting, Yan Hau Yi, Cheung Man Sun and his wife Che Suk Mui, the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region representatives, Joyce Koi Ming Fai and Michelle Yim (Mai Suet) yesterday paid their respect to Hung Sin Nui at the Sunbeam Theater. Che Suk Mui visited Sister Nui in Guangzhou in October last year for a radio interview. Sister Nui liked Chinese sausage. After the story she sent her a program CD and a catty of Chinese sausage. This Christmas she planned to bring Chinese sausage with her to visit Sister Nui, unfortunately Sister Nui suddenly passed away. Che Suk Mui felt that Sister Nui's spirit of never giving up on her pursuit of art was worth younger generations to learn from. Ma Fung Kwok have known Sister Nui for over 20 years, Sister Nui gave her heart and soul to art. She was direct and precise with her words, Sister Nui's passing was regrettable and upsetting to him. Fok Chun Ting said that through Sister Nui the China and Hong Kong Cantonese Opera development and cultural exchange was expanded. Koi Ming Fai said that her grand mentor Sister Nui was like Buddha in the Cantonese opera world. She learned a lot and kept performing and learning even in her old age, she never said quit; although Sister Nui was often ill, she still insisted on teaching students. Sister Nui often had a smile on her face, a kind and gentle elder who cared about the younger generations. Yesterday almost 100 people braved the rain to pay their respect, sign the signature book and present flowers. Around 9AM, before Sunbeam opened its door, 3 fans were already waiting outside. Students also revealed that they came for their homework. An elderly fan looked sadden, as he stared at Sister Nui's photo he sang a verse. He said that over a decade ago he saw Sister Nui once, he never expected that the next time would be at her memorial. * (2013/12/18) The Andy Lau Tak Wa starred film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO) is a Mainland box office hit. It has already made over 160 million yuan RMB. Wa Jai in the film performed "the worst good cop" and his effort was not wasted. Gordon Lam Ka Tung was excited about the performance and wished that the film will remain hot at the box office to 600 million yuan RMB. Wa Jai once said at the Beijing press conference that he would like the film to break 300 million yuan RMB. If it reached 600 million then a sequel would be planned. He would be willing to play the villain. Earlier they promoted in Taiwan and discussed the production. Wa Jai at the premiere joked that he had no romance in the film as he focused on catching bad guys. He left all the romance to Lam Ka Tung. Mayday showed up to support the film and shared the joy of making a 3D film with Wa Jai. * (2013/12/17) The 2013 TVB Anniversary Award took place last night with one surprise after another. The absent Dayo Wong Chi Wai with BOUNTY LADY (MY SING LADY) won his first Best Actor. Krystal Tin Yui Nei with BROTHER'S KEEPER (GUI LUN) won Best Actress. The program's anti climax came when the Best Actor favorite, "Cool Demon" Julian Cheung Chi Lam received the "Most Popular Male Television Character" and asked with frustration if TVB disliked him. He even made "honorable children" comments and could not hide his disappointment. Best Series went to TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2 (CHUNG SEUNG WON SIU II). This year five categories were open to viewer voting. The Most Popular Male and Female Television Characters were 100% based on viewer votes. Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Series were 50% professional jury and 50% viewer votes. The total vote count was 931,487 votes, 100,616 of which were for "Most Popular Female Television Character" Tin Yui Nei, 77,948 for "Most Popular Male Television Character" Cheung Chi Lam. Wong Chi Wa won his first Best Actor with BOUNTY LADY. He was the only absent nominee among the top five. The winner announcement was truly a surprise. When host Carol Cheng Yui Lam called to interview Wong Chi Wa, he said that he was in Shanghai. When he learned that he won, he jokingly asked who voted. When he found out both viewers and a professional jury did, he happily said, "The award has recognition." On the eve of the award show, Cheung Chi Lam said that he worried about the result of being the favorite was disappointment. His words came true. Although he received 77,948 votes for the Most Popular Male Television Character, when the award was announced his smile was forced. When he accepted the award he even made a "honorable children" comment out of frustration and sent a chill throughout the event. Cheung Chi Lam looked serious when he accepted the award. He emotionally said, "Does this mean TVB dislikes me? Why can I only win when it was all viewer votes? Actually I want to say, even though biological children are lovable, another type of children are even more lovable. When you need them they would appear just in time, they are called honorable children." Cheung Chi Lam seemed to be making insinuations and the live atmosphere immediately grew chilly. In comparison, Francis Ng Chun Yu who attended as a surprise also lost Best Actor but was cooler. He even said that he was satisfied with the result. Cheung Chi Lam after the program ended left after THE SCOOP's live interview, perhaps his rage has yet to subside. He did not stay for a press interview. Later he explained that no one informed him to stay for interviews. In addition fans were waiting in the rain for him outside Television City, thus he was in a hurry to meet them. TVB could do nothing about Cheung Chi Lam's early departure. After the program Cheung Chi Lam revealed that he made a wager with his wife Len Len (Anita Yuen Wing Yi). His wife knew better so he would be willing top pay up and give diamond jewelry to his wife as promised. Cheung Chi Lam said, "Actually I bought it long ago, I should give it to her whether I win or lose. Sometimes when you make a wager it can be win win." Len Len comforted her husband online. "Tonight you are very, very handsome! Receiving viewers' liking and appreciation should be what an actor needs, be grateful!" Tin Yui Nei crushed the favorite Linda Chung Ka Yun, winning both Best Actress and Most Popular Female Television Character". She lost her composure when she accepted the award. Chung Ka Yun was not disappointed and said that she will keep working harder next year. Cheung Chi Lam's "honorable children" comment seemed to express that he made a series to save TVB rating out of honor, in return honorable children did not receive TVB's love. According to the top three score that the event announced, Wong Chi Wa's professional jury score was 28.16 but viewer voting was the lowest among the top three with 19.87. In the end he won with a total score of 48.04, crushing the second place score of 42.29. Best Actor's second and third place received more viewer votes, obviously Cheung Chi Lam has won viewers over but not TVB jury recognition. In other words Wong Chi won with higher TVB jury scores. Elena Kong Mei Yi got emotional when she won Best Supporting Actress as nominees gave her a standing ovation. She even raised the award and screamed, "Ma, I won an award!" Kong Mei Yi said that several years ago she considered quitting acting because her performance had no viewer. She thanked TVB for taking her in and jokingly thanked (Kenneth) Ma Kwok Ming for willing to "choke" her down. Will she celebrate the award with a wedding? She said, "I already won an award, I don't have to get married." Hui Siu Hung's Best Supporting Actress award led to an uproar in the audience. When he accepted an award he jokingly asked if people "turned off their television" and said that TVB was very innocent. Since TVB was not in charge of issuing licenses, people should turn off the government instead. Hui Siu Hung continued. "The award is quite a surprise. Last year I received the Outstanding Actor Award. This time I won again." Was he afraid of the "curse" and not have any job? Hui Siu Hung joked, "I am not worried, I don't want to work either!" Lau Siu Ming received the Lifetime Achievement Award. He said that earlier he received a call from the company asking for his whereabouts. At the time he was working in Taiwan and the company asked him to return to Hong Kong to attend the award show, but only saying that "something interesting will happen" and asking him to dress up. He thought he was going to be a guest presenter. Ming Sir said that in the past he was already satisfied with presenting awards to others because his teacher taught him that fortune for others was happiness for himself too. Ming sir has not planned a celebration because he did not have many fans and he was not considered a star. When CEO Norman Leung Nai Peng presented the award, Ming Sir mistakenly thanked "Chairman Peng". Kevin Cheng Ka Wing and Tavia Yeung Yi won the newly added TVB Mainland China Most Popular TVB series male and female artist poll. TVB and Mainland Youku Tudou site organized the award for Mainland viewers to vote online. Cheng Ka Wing defeated Raymond Lam Fung, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Ma Kwok Ming and Cheung Chi Lam with 38% of the votes. Yeung Yi held off the second place Charmaine Sheh Si Man and defeated Chung Ka Yung, Niki Chow Lai Kei, Kate Tsui Tsz Shan with 41% of the total votes. Cheng Ka Wing and Yeung Yi yesterday attended the award ceremony. Ka Wing thanked Mainland viewers and friends for their support. As for a raise, he said, "I can't be like this." TVB executive Elaine Lok Yi Ling joked that Ka Wing could buy a home with one Mainland series. Ka Wing said, "No such thing, only she said that. I am just making a living! Let's not talk about prices, it's so sensitive." However he admitted that now he had choices with series and quality came first. However next April he will return to TVB for a series, probably a police drama. Who will he work with? He said, "Sheh Si Man, (Myolie) Wu Hung Yi, Yeung Yi, Chung Ka Yun, Tin Yui Nei and others, I can work with anyone." Yeung Yi wore a Viola Chan low cut evening gown design with HK$7 million diamond jewelry sponsorship. She said, "Ka Wing deserves his award. Although I rarely make Mainland series, viewers like me from watching TVB series. I also deserve it." As for being able to defeat second place Ah Sheh, she said, "I am really very, very happy because it has never happened to me before." Yeung Yi thanked Mainland viewers. If her schedule next year permitted she would like to make a Mainland series. 2013 TVB ANNIVERSARY AWARD BEST SERIES: TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2 BEST ACTOR: DAYO WONG CHI WA (BOUNTY LADY) BEST ACTRESS: KRYSTAL TIN YUI NA (BROTHER'S KEEPER) BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Benz Hui Siu Hung (BOUNTY LADY) BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Elena Kong Mei Yi (TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2) MOST IMPROVED ACTOR: Vincent Wong Ho Shun MOST IMPROVED ACTRESS: Eliza Sam Lai Heung MOST POPULAR MALE CHARACTER: Julian Cheung Chi Lam (TRIUMPH IN THE SKIES 2) MOST POPULAR FEMALE CHARACTER: Krystal Tin Yui Nei (BROTHER'S KEEPER) BEST HOSTS: Priscilla Wong Chui Yu and Tony Hung Wing Sing (PILGRIMAGE OF WEALTH 2) BEST VARIETY PROGRAM: THREE AMIGOS BON VOYAGE BEST INFORMATIVE PROGRAM: PILGRIMAGE OF WEALTH 2 OUTSTANDING ACTORS: Suet Nei, Mary Hon Ma Lei, Anderson Junior (On Tak Chun), Helen Ma Hoi Lun, Lau Kong LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: Lau Siu Ming * (2013/12/17) Cantonese opera grand master of a generation Hung Sin Nui passed away in Guangzhou on December 8. Unfortunately I have been too busy to it." He deliberately brought the autographed photo copy to the event, hoping to send it through Sunbeam Theater to the Guangzhou Hung Sin Nui Art Center. Fan Ms. Tam after paying her respect was reluctant to leave, as she stared at Sister Nui's photo and kept shedding tears. She said that she already liked Sister Nui when she was little. "I have liked Sister Nui for 60 years. I thought she was too strong. My favorite was her ZHAOJUN TO THE FRONTIER. This son was very meaningful. I wrote in the signature book 'Farewell, Unforgettable'." Wong ha Wai around 2PM came to pay her respect. She said that she has known Sister Nui for 60 years. "Sister Nui overcame hardship and gave her heart and soul to charity fund raising. I saw Sister Nui in recent years but didn't sense that she was sick. Thus her passing was very sudden. He said that he should go. * (2013/12/17) Louis Koo Tin Lok yesterday attended the opening of an American skin care store. Speaking of director Johnnie To Kei Fung's musical film being interested in him because of his decent singing voice, Goo Jai was reluctant. "The character has to sing and dance, and the sound recording is live. It's very difficult, I feel the challenge would be enormous. I am afraid of singing and dancing, even the lines had to be sung. So I have to seriously consider it before taking the role." He normally practiced singing at the karaoke box, but if he would take the musical film role, he would definitely have to study singing with instructors. His THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) transgender co-star Poyd was fond of Goo Jai. Goo Jai avoided the topic. "I only heard that the director was interested in a new film with the original team, but on th set I was quieter and spoke very little." He hinted that he and Poyd were not familiar. * (2013/12/17) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa two nights ago was a guest presenter at the Fresh Wave 2013 International Short Film Festival. When she made LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) she took a film cut and she ended up with a chance to make the sequel. Chin Wa was not interested in directing. If her husband would direct and ask her to make a movie, she joked that she might turn it down. "We can very easily argue over something nonsensical and thus damage our relationship." To Kei Fung will work on the Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) written musical next February. Would he be interested in getting Louis Koo Tin Lok to perform? He said, "Great, actually Goo Jai sings pretty well. He is just resistant toward singing. I don't know about dancing." Speaking of the same Best Actor and Best Actress as the Golden Horse Awards, Chi Wai said, "Big productions would catch people's attention, but they would pay attention to small budget production's difficulties. Since outside jury members gave the awards to Lee Kang-Sheng and Zhang Ziyi, they must have their reasons." Speaking of Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Nick Cheung Ka Fai's defeat, Chi Wai joked, "That's why Wai Jai didn't come! Both THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) and UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) are action films. Wa Jai made fun of Lam Ka Tung, "Are we making a comedy?" Yao Chen in the film shaved Lam Ka Tung's head and even had a bed scene together. However it was cut. Lam Ka Tung joked, "I have no regret, but viewers might!" Yao Chen said that she had a little regret and would make another one next time. Wa Jai was asked if he saw THE WHITE STORM as its biggest rival. He hoped that they both kept performing well. "Hong Kong police film is our important subject. I hope it strengthens the Hong Kong market." His goal was 300 million yuan at the Mainland box office. Now it has already reached half of that. He hoped that every time he would be lucky. * (2013/12/16) The 56th Asian Pacific Film Festival award ceremony took place last night in Macau. Earlier winning the Golden Horse Best Actress with THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI), Zhang Ziyi again won the Asia Pacific Best Actress. The STRAY DOGS Golden Horse Best Actor Lee Kang-Sheng again defeated THE GRANDMASTER's Tony Leung Chiu Wai and UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN)'s Nick Cheung Ka Fai to win the Asia Pacific Best Actor. Japanese film LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON won Best Picture and Best Director to become the big winner. With 9 nominations THE GRANDMASTER only won two awards. ILO ILO's Yeo Yann Yann after the Golden Horse Award again won the Asia Pacific Film Festival Best Supporting Actress. Zhang Ziyi with THE GRANDMASTER was the favorite to win the Asia Pacific Best Actor. She defeated JUVENILE OFFENDER's Lee Jung-Hyun, SO YOUNG's Yang Zishan, IN BLOOM's Lika Babluani, THE LUNCHBOX's Nimrat Kaur and ILO ILO's Angeli Bayani. Zhang Ziyi said, "Thank you to the event and the jury, I also have to thank Director Wong Kar Wai and Leung Chiu Wai. Each time I have worked with Leung Chiu Wai I have improved. THE GRANDMASTER took over three years to make, the biggest reward was learning to be "willing". The cast and the crew only out of love for this profession were willing to provide their heart and time. Winter is a great season, aside from receiving happiness I also received an award." During the award ceremony Zhang Ziyi was nowhere to be found in the audience until the moment of the announcement when she finally took her seat with an entourage of 6 assistants. Zhang Ziyi said, "(Andrew) Lau Wai Keung made fun of me for taking three years to make a movie. Three years' time is unimportant. The most important is that everyone remembers the character, which is something that is very worth being proud of. The award is only a bonus." Was the happiness she referred to on the stage love? Zhang Ziyi sweetly smiled and said, "I was already very clear." With THE GRANDMASTER she won 4 Best Actress awards: the Golden Horse Award, the Huading award, the Asia Pacific Screen Award and the Asia Pacific Film Festival Award. Lee Kang-Sheng again defeated Leung Chiu Wai and Cheung Ka Fai to win Best Actor. He took the initiative and shook Cheung Ka Fai's hand, and Cheung Ka Fai congratulated him. Lee Kang-Sheng said, "Another surprise, this time I guessed would be smooth sailing. Thank you to the jury and everyone. I am very happy, a little touched. Because the Asia Pacific Film Festival is different, this is international. This time I probably won't be called a surprise. Earlier STRAY DOGS went to many world film festivals but few has seen it. Thus I was surprised when I won. I want to thank my father who passed away over a decade ago. Although I don't make a lot of movies, he has always silently supported me. Only after his passing did I discover a video of my first movie in his collection." The Golden Horse Best Supporting Actress Yeo Yann Yann again won with ILO ILO. She defeated UNBEATABLE's Crystal Lee, SNOWPIERCER's Tilda Swinton, SO YOUNG's Maggie Jiang Shuying and TO MY DEAR GRANNY's Lin Mei-Hsiu. She was so emotional that she instantly hug director Anthony Chen. She said, "Thank you to the event, the jury and everyone who is related to ILO ILO. Because of their hard work, th actors were able to show their best selves to the audience." LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON won Best Picture and Best Director to become the big winner. With 9 nominations, THE GRANDMASTER only won two awards. Best Supporting Actor went to THE LUNCHBOX's Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Mumbai film THE LUNCHBOX's lead actor Irrfan Khan received the "Asia Pacific Film Festival Special Achievement Award", but due to illness he was unable to attend. However he still sent a video to thank the event and the jury. Maria Cordero earlier had a hysterectomy. After resting for a few months she performed for the first time last night. Throughout her entire performance she did not look like she just had a surgery. On the other hand Kay Tse On Kay went off key as soon as she opened her mouth when she performed WEDDING INVITATION STREET. THE WAY WE DANCE (KONG MO PAI) actors and Lollipop F performed a choreography and mixed Tai Chi with dance. Two Best Actresses Anita Yuen Wing Yi and Cecilia Yip Tung presented the Best Actor Award. Yuen Wing Yi admitted that she really wanted to present it to her friend (Cheung Ka Fai). Yip Tung said, "Now Cheung Ka Fai has already been promoted to Jerk Fai!" Yuen Wing Yi joked, "Anyone who has a friend of mine is a jerk!" Yip Tung after seeing the winner said, "Your good friend has to work harder." Yuen Wing Yi could not help but look disappointed. Anthony Wong Chau Sun and Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin presented the Best Actress award. Chau Sun conversed in sign language, Ah Sa played question and answer herself. "I know Best Actress has to have acting abilities, which I have! She has to be pretty, I am too! If she has to have a figure, I obviously have it too!" Everyone cracked out. Lo Hoi Pang who accidentally used foul language at an award show presented an award with Cheng Pei Pei. He said, "Lately Hong Kong people really like to use foul language." Cheng Pei Pei immediately stopped him as she was afraid that he would "test the mic" again. Lo Hoi Pang said, "But they like hearing it!" The entire venue applauded. Due to rain, the red carpet was moved indoors. The married Anita Yuen Wing Yi and Kay Tse On Kay were no less sexy than Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam, Taiwan's Kuo Shu-Yao and Korean star Lee Jung-Hyun. Zhang Ziyi appeared in red in the finale. Zhang Ziyi was caught with her "My King" Wang Feng in Zhuhai. Because two nights ago Wang Feng performed a concert there, she came to Zhuhai a day early to attend. They also appeared together and were not as reserved as before. Last night Zhang Ziyi was asked about her Mainland media slander lawsuit. She revealed that she just returned from the U.S. and learned that they have reached an out of court settlement, which was the best and the most satisfying result. It mainly cleared her name. Winning the Asia Pacific Screen Award Best Actress in Australia earlier, she and Wang Feng walked shoulder to shoulder in Zhuhai yesterday and someone posted the photo online. Actually two nights ago Wang Feng performed a concert in Zhuhai two nights ago. Zhang Ziyi probably attended then went to Macau yesterday. Last night on the Asia Pacific Film Festival red carpet, two married women Yuen Wing Yi and Tse On Kay stole the spotlight and were no less sexy than the younger artists; Len Len was asked if she had to let her husband Julian Cheung Chi Lam look over what she was wearing? She said, "I don't need to. He rarely asks me about what I wear, since he doesn't feel I am sexy anyway. Actually I want to wear a suit jacket with buttons, but my manager says not to change other people's design and to dress up out of respect for the event." Kong Yeuk Lam said that she could absolutely go all over in what she wore for the film event. Previously she had to mind her image because she was a singer, now she is already 26 and being sexy occasionally was fine. Tse On Kay and Lee Jung-Hyun also pushed up for career lines. Tse On Kay said that she did not notify her husband Louis Cheung Kai Chung in advance and normally she rarely asked for his opinion; she joked that her husband had his own taste and sense for fashion, in addition his choice for a wife also showed his taste. JUVENILE OFFENDER Best Actress nominee Lee Jung-Hyun walked the red carpet with her co-star and Best Actor nominee Seo Young-Ju. The always busty Kuo Shu-Yao also did not stand out last night, DaDa Chan Jing also lacked luster with a conservative look. Last night Fiona Sit Hoi Kei and Janine Chang had a fashion conflict, luckily they appeared at different times and avoided the awkward moment; however, Janine Chang had a more even figure than Sit Hoi Kei. Thus with the same piece of clothing she stood out more. Soler stole the spotlight alternatively as they attended with their wives. The younger brother even brought his son. S.H.E.'s Ella (Chen Chia-Hwa) yesterday attended the Asia Pacific Film Festival as a guest performer despite her grandmother's passing in the morning. She still professionally walked the red carpet with Mike He. Ella revealed that she called her sister as soon as she arrived in Macau and learned that their grandmother passed away in the morning. Ella said, "I miss her, but it feels very curious. I just saw her for the last time yesterday, and today she passed away. However, this is a process that I have to experience in life!" * (2013/12/16) Since the indecent photo scandal, Gillian Chung Yun Tung and Edison Chen Koon Hei have kept their distance. Even her buddy Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin when attending the STREETS OF MACAO (OH MOON GAI) premiere in Macau acted like Edison was a stranger and kept her back toward him; even when they were on the stage for a toast, they pretended not to see each other even though they were less than 10 meters apart. Edison and Ah Sa intricately dodged each other as they appeared on the red carpet separately. Although they both said that they did not mind, their assistants were very tense. After Ah Sa completed her electronic media interview, her assistant immediately spoke with the public relations. Ah Sa also caught a glimpse of Edison who was in a print interview; when Edison moved to the electronic media interview, Ah Sa then accepted print interviews and successfully avoided a direct confrontation. When reporters asked them for a photo together, Ah Sa's assistant immediately interfered and hinted that no one should keep waiting. Edison who appeared to have been drinking admitted that he saw Ah Sa but has not had the chance to greet her. He said, "If I can see her in my line of sight, I would say hello to her. I wouldn't deliberately greet her. (Would seeing her feel awkward?) I wouldn't, I hope she wouldn't either. I don't know if she saw me." Then he asked reporters with frustration, "Why don't you ask yourself if you feel awkward!" Ah Sa had a few words about the arrangement. "I waited in a room for over a hour, but no one arranged for me to appear. (Would you feel awkward?) No, what haven't I seen?" Ah Sa also admitted that she saw Edison but she has not greeted him yet. "Seeing him doesn't mean eye contact. (He said that he would greet you if he sees you?) I think he is too lucky, he hasn't been able to see me. (Would you greet him if you saw him?) Might as well, I am a very polite person." Ah Sa said that she was not familiar with Edison, so they did not have much to talk about. She really did not remember if this was the first time they were at the same event after (the indecent photo scandal). Would she deliberately avoid a toast with him? Ah Sa asked, "Really? I don't know, I am a little 'disoriented' from awaiting, it's like a dream." Would she mind working with him? Ah Sa said it would depend on what the collaboration was. "Everyone hopes to wish others well, I hope he can return to a position anew." Would she mind a photo together? She joked, "Why not, I am not scared of you!" * (2013/12/16) Andy Lau Tak Wa and Gordon Lam Ka Tung yesterday promoted their new film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO). Wa Jai was confident that it would make over 300 million at the Mainland box office but did not dare to estimate the Hong Kong box office. Some said that his daughter has been lucky, which Wa Jai gladly accepted. "Ummm......yes, I hope it keeps on going! I have said it many times, I really don't have a second child yet. I am in a hurry for one too. Am I working hard on it? I am working very hard at home and at work!" Wa Jai felt lucky that his life has been smooth sailing. He has not run into any storm except for a little ripple. Was disturbance for his family the biggest storm? Wa Jai understood that reporters had jobs to do, and he too had his own lifestyle. Lam Ka Tung earlier was rumored to wed soon. He said, "I don't even have a girlfriend yet. I am in the market. If I have paparazzi following me and getting a photo (with his girlfriend), it's a win!" Lam Ka Tung was not afraid that his sexual orientation would be questioned. "I am very demanding, but I am low quality. You can't hurry love." Wa Jai asked Lam Ka Tung not to challenge the paparazzi. They years ago have been rumored to be gay and he did not want to be dragged in. Wa Jai was asked to play matchmaker to widen Lam Ka Tung's social circle. Wa Jai revealed that when he promoted outside he often would meet with friends. Lam Ka Tung joked, "I am very envious and admire how Wa Jai does things and treats people. I too want it to be natural, I don't resist foreigners, but I have too many flaws that I can't change. My ideal other half can take care of family, know how to cook and make soup, and treat the elders well." He said that if the new film would reach HK$25 million at the Hong Kong box office he would date and if it would reach 60 million he would wed. Wa Jai burst his bubble. "He is destined to be single." * (2013/12/16) The Jiang Wen directed 3D film GONE WITH THE BULLETS (YUT BO JI YIU)'s first still was unveiled yesterday. He and Ge You played adventurers in the 20s Shanghai. They turned from partners into rivals. Jiang Wen and Ge You danced on the stage with trumpets in hand. They were both dressed in tuxedo as they tap danced with Broadway dancers. The film started production in October and is planned for a Lunar New Year release. * (2013/12/15) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu's Lunar New Year film GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS) is in the production. After 10 years Kwan Yu returned with Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Dayo Wong Chi Wa, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and old flame Alex To Tak Wai as guest stars. Two nights ago th film shot on location at Central, this time was Cheung Ka Fai's turn to be funny. When the Best Actor ran into the Best Actress, Kwan Yu could not help but snicker in front of the seriously funny Cheung Ka Fai. Two nights ago Cheung Ka Fai appeared at Central with an over the hill "mob boss" look, in a high waist suit and thick gold chain. The bright spot was his sunglasses with a broken lens. Before the production started, Ka Fai stayed in this look as he leaned against the stairway and seriously studied the script. Lead actress Ng Kwan Yu appeared in a low cut short dress, thus she was in a big coat and held a hot beverage to stay warm. Peter Chan Ho Sun as the GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS producer was present two nights ago. Kwan Yu and Cheung Ka Fai spent almost 20 minutes to discuss the shoot with director Matthew Chow Hoi Kwong. Chan Ho Sun also joined in to study the production. Reportedly in the film Cheung Ka Fai played a fallen mob boss. Earlier he already shot a beating scene and his sunglasses was broken on one side. Two nights ago was Ah Kam and the fallen boss' romantic scene. They embraced farewell in a dark environment. Cheung Ka Fai in his "one eyed" funny look lovingly hug Kwan Yu. They hug 5 or 6 times then completed the shoot. Kwan Yu also seriously returned Ka Fai's love. However, after the shoot, Ka Fai stayed in his mood and walked away. Ng Kwan Yu already lost her composure. Cheung Ka Fai's silver screen comedy performance became classic, this time he only guest starred in GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS but he put in 100% effort. His serious performance made many crack up. He revealed that later he will make more comedy films and fans also look forward to his return to comedy. * (2013/12/15) The film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO) two nights ago held its premiere at the Venetian Macau. As executive producer, producer, actor Andy Lau Tak Wa led Yao Chen, Philip Keung Ho Man, Kenny Wong Tak Bun, Vinz Sze Cho Nam and child actor Jacqueline Chan Pui Yin dressed up for the red carpet. One of the Five Tigers Michael Miu Kiu Wai showed his support; other guests included Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Taiwan group Lollipop F. Wa Jai praised his on screen god daughter, the 10 year old child actor Chan Pui Yin, for her acting. It left him with a memorable impression. Pui Yin pointed out that that this was not her first film. Earlier she already participated in almost 10 films like MY SASSY HUBBY (NGOR LO GUNG NG SUN SING) and TURNING POINT 2 (CHIM JUI FAN). Wa Jai joked that she had more experience than many new actors. He said, "In the past two years I have worked with many children on films, some could only play themselves. However Pui Yin who is very energetic can play an autistic child, which is very different from her personality." Wa Jai was asked if he would let his daughter join the business. He laughed and said, "It's such a long time away, let's talk about it then and let her develop freely. (If she has interest would you support it?) It's too far, I don't know yet. (Pui Yin has already acted in many films at age 10?) Then wait until she is 10 and I will tell you." Has his daughter inherited his performance talent? Pui Yin thought that she was being asked and successfully saved "god father". Wa Jai who breathed a sigh of relief could not help but thank her. Miu Kiu Wai's children posted intimate photos with opposite sex. He said that the most important was the photo was pretty. It was very normal for the children to date. He did not have to make a big deal. His daughter had many friends, but he did not know who was the real deal. * (2013/12/15) The 56th Asia Pacific Film Festival award ceremony takes place tonight in Macau. Last night the organizer held a Macau Night. Asia Pacific Film Festival planning committee chair Eric Tsang Chi Wai and the STREETS OF MACAO (OH MOON GAI) cast Pakho Chau, Cecilia Yip Tung and others attended. Pakho said, "I have claustrophobia. In one scene I was buried alive and the shoot took 11 hours. I was crying and cramping all over." Chi Wai said that the Asia Pacific Film Festival is growing in scale. This year the production costs over HK$20 million as participating nations all sent representatives to attend. More than 3 times the people, over 600, than the previous year gathered in Macau. The Asia Pacific Film Festival next year will take place in Thailand and Malaysia the year after. * (2013/12/15) Nick Cheung Ka Fai and director Benny Chan Muk Sing yesterday attended THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) audience appreciation at a cinema. As of two days ago THE WHITE STORM's Hong Kong box office reached HK$17.4 million and over 200 million RMB in the Mainland. Ka Fai gave away autographed posters and towels to viewers at the cinema. A female viewer was moved to tears and got a comfort hug from Ka Fai. Ka Fai hoped that THE WHITE STORM Hong Kong box office would break HK$44 million. Speaking of the Asia Pacific Film Festival Best Actor tonight, he said that lately he has been busy with the GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS) production and has not thought about the award. Box office and awards were never predictable. He would be happy if he won, and work harder next year if he didn't. He would not be disappointed. He said that GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS' comedy performance would just be a test, in the future he wanted to make more comedy. * (2013/12/14) Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai's intimate scene with transgender actress Poyd in the film THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) became the talk of the town. Recently he not only has been busy with that film's promotion but also with his friend Sandra Ng Kwan Yu's new film GOLDEN CHICKEN SSS (GUM GAI SSS). Although Ka Fai was only a guest star in the film, he was not sloppy at all. He will even appear in a thong, which conceivably will be one of the film's major attraction. Two nights ago Ka Fai appeared in an outdated white suit look in Tsim Sha Tsui for a location shoot. In the scene he appeared alone and had to draw a blade from his waist. Although the shoot took place late at night, he still drew quite a large crowd. In the story Kwan Yu and past his prime mob boss Ka Fai were in line for concert tickets at a piano store. Ka Fai was just released from prison and still thought the world was his. He got into a fight with a group of South Asians on the line. Obviously it was based on the Lady GaGa Hong Kong ticket fever last year. Ka Fai in order to coordinate with his over the hill boss identity wore a white suit with a printed tee shirts, high waist pants and thick gold chains. He brought to life the Chan Wai Man era Wise Guys. Ka Fai even called for backup against the South Asian line gang. Ka Fai's followers were all different shapes, sizes and age. Dragon immediately returned to him as he said to his followers, "Hey, put on some clothes first." Later when he went to complain to the person who got him his back up, he got hung up on and received South Asian gang's ridicule in return. Dragon again returned to Ka Fai as Dragon's aura radiated from his looks to his body. He slowly pulled up a blade from his waist in preparation for a slaughter. Luckily Kwan Yu stopped him in a feminine voice. Because the director was rather demanding, even though the actors did their jobs he still had to shoot three times before he was pleased. Around midnight the shoot ended. Kwan Yu said that Ka Fai played a over the hill TST East boss. As soon as he opened his mouth the crew was already very pleased. * (2013/12/14) The film FIRESTORM (FUNG WON) was selected to be the 56th Asia Pacific Film Festival opening film. Executive producer, producer and star Andy Lau Tak Wa yesterday attended the Macau press conference with Yao Chen, Philip Keung Ho Man, Michael Tong Man Lung and child actor Jacqueline Chan Pui Yin. Chan Pui Yin was asked if she liked her on screen god father Lau Tak Wa or her on screen father Keung Ho Man? She said, "I like them both. Brother Lau Tak Wa took great care of me." As a father when Wa Jai held "brother" had an awkward expression. He said, "What did you say?" Yao Chen had a minor cough. Reporters asked Wa Jai to hold her for warmth, but the married man shook his head. "I have a wife!" Although they only had a hand holding scene, Wa Jai still praised Yao Chen as a good actress. he hoped to have a chance for romance next time. As an executive producer and a producer Wa Jai joked that he did not supervise everyday. "The director doesn't want me to go either, saying that he had pressure. Higher costs with the large scale gun fight scenes? They were OK, money was used where it should be. As for the actual figure I don't know. The biggest investment was the Central set construction." The film added a lot of action scenes and commercial elements in order to promote Hong Kong police film in the Mainland market. Wa Jai admitted that during the shoot flesh wounds were inevitable. As for box office expectation, he was full of confidence. "My past Mainland box office was within 300 million, I hope this time I can exceed 300 million yuan." Yao Chen at first was very excited about working with Wa Jai, but when she received the script she realized that she only had one scene with him. She had some regrets. "I hope next time I can hold a gun and play a cop. I also want to play a more masculine character." * (2013/12/14) The Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) produced film CONTROL (HUNG JAI) two nights ago held an advanced screening. His wife Lisa S., director Kenneth Bi and his parents Chin Han and Ivy Ling Po attended. Since the birth of his daughter, Ng Yin Cho has halted his on screen work to focus on being with his wife and child. He will rest until June before working on another film. In several days he will fly to the U.S. with his wife and child to spend Christmas with his parents. Ng Yin Cho joked, "Before my wife and I got married, we were the most afraid of running into an entire family on a flight. They would be noisy throughout the entire flight. Now we finally get what's coming to us! This time will be my daughter's first long distance flight. I am worried that she would cry on the flight. We have already booked the first row in business class." Ng Cho Yin lost a lot of hair from worrying about his daughter. "If a boy does something bad or gets bullied, at least I would be is disappointed; but when my daughter gets bullied my heart would ache. The feeling is different." Earlier their family was caught on camera on the streets, as his daughter only liked to stare at her father. Ng Yin Cho joked, "Of course, Papa is handsome!" Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan said that during the shoot, Ng Yin Cho was rather interested in her being a parent to two sons. She planned to take her sons on a Christmas vacation. "The children are still little, so I don't want to go some place too far or too cold. * (2013/12/14) Donnie Yen Chi Tan in THE MONKEY KING (SAI YAU GEI ji DAI LAU TIN GUNG) played Sun Wukong. Aside from the mighty red armor look, he also had the humorous "Bima Wan" official costume look. This was the cutest time in his film career. "Cute Pretty Monkey is not easy to play, before the performance I had to do a lot of monkey related research." During the shoot he almost played every scene half kneeling, which made his waist especially tired. In the film Sun Wukong was given the "Bima Wan" title to be a minor heavenly horse official. Sometimes he would grind his teeth and stare and sometimes he would be in deep thought. Yen Chi Tan performed the pleased with himself expressions thoroughly. "During research, I watched documentaries, the DRAGONBALL animation, and went to the zoo to visit monkeys. (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi's Sun Wukong performance was also my important analysis target." * (2013/12/13) Simon Yam Tat Wa's work schedule was packed. Earlier he went to work in England and Beijing. First he attended the China International Film Festival London, then he returned to Beijing to work on the film THE ICEMAN 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP) sequel. In England he succumbed to the chilly weather and caught a severe flu. When he rushed back to Beijing his condition worsen, he once needed 18 heat pads for "protection". After work he even needed his assistant's help. Because he did not want to hinder the shoot, Brother Wa three days ago went to the hospital for an IV before works. Then he continued to work! Two days ago Brother Wa finally finished work and returned to Hong Kong, only to find out that he was in "big trouble" after going to the hospital. Brother Wa said, "When I was in England, the back of my back, my hip and my rear muscles were all stiff. The doctor said that it was a very special type of flu. Later the germs went into the lungs, so I had light pneumonia. I had to be hospitalized right away!" Brother Wa was known for being tough, after one day at the hospital yesterday he left and continue to work on the post production for his Emperor film AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG). He still looked a little weary. As soon as he was working he was alert again and very professional. When asked why he did not take a few more days off, Brother Wa said, "I feel that my body can take it, I don't want to mess up everyone's work plan so I keep on working." Qi Qi yesterday said that her husband has never been so sick that he had to "quarantine himself". "He probably caught it on the flight to England. I met up with him in England and I got sick. Later after we isolated ourselves we didn't see each other again. He said that we should not see each other yet, as he was afraid of getting me and our daughter sick!" * (2013/12/13) Gordon Chan Ka Seung last year made THE FOUR (SEI DAI MING BO) trilogy all in one breath. The eleven month long production made him more familiar with the actors, especially lead actress Liu Yifei. Gordon stated that they were full of chemistry. With a dance background, Liu Yifei had a handle on her fight scenes and looked convincing. No wonder Gordon praised that she could turn from a idol to an action actress at any time! Director Chan Ka Seung's THE FOUR 2 is in release now. Following the first film's Mainland box office hit, Chan Ka Seung stated that he had "pressure". "Actually the decision to make a sequel was made a few days before the first film's release. The boss was very confident in the film and immediately started production on the second and the third films. Making them in a row, pressure was certain to be there. Because it cost 70 million (RMB) for one film, even if it made 150 million (RMB) it still lost a little. In addition the second film was 3D, the cost was even greater. However during this production, the entire team had great relationships. Although the process was very tough, everyone put a lot of effort into it, I am very happy to complete this." Because of the 11 month long production in Hengidan, Gordon saw changes in Deng Chao, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Liu Yifei and other actors in the film. Gordon stated that Liu Yifei transformed. During the second film shoot he trusted her even more and they had chemistry. He said, "In one scene she had to do a dozen minute take straight, she did it in one breath. I am really happy to see her explosiveness. She wasn't an idol at all; when she worked on fight scenes, she fought very well too perhaps due to her dance background and not afraid of hard work. I am confident that she can handle a pure martial art action film." Although the first film was a Mainland box office hit, actually Gordon still had something that was nagging at him. "Although this film was a hit in the Mainland, its Hong Kong box office was iffy. To me it's a setback. I am a Hong Kong director, I want to make a movie for Hong Kong viewers, but maybe this film had few Hong Kong actors and promotion. Thus I added (Eddie) Cheung Siu Fai, (Kathy) Chow Hoi Mei, (Ken) Low Wai Kwong and other actors in the second film, I wanted to put more Hong Kong elements back into it. I hope Hong Kong viewers will see it." * (2013/12/13) Tony Leung Chiu Wai yesterday attended the CineAsia award presentation to receive the Outstanding Actor award. Wai Jai said that the credit for his achievements today did not belong to just one person. They required the coordination of a lot of people and resources. After 30 years in the business he has always felt that he was lucky. He hoped that in the future he would be able to play more mature characters and have a new director in his acting career. Wai Jai admitted that for glorious film industry achievements, aside from hard work luck was also very important. They needed the coordination of many people. resources and good teams. He said, "I am very lucky, I grew up in the most golden age of Hong Kong television and film. I ran into many opportunities and good production teams, cultivating me to today's performance. I have never thought how great I was, but I feel I am very lucky." What goals will he have for the future? Wai Jai pointed out that he has never had many special goal or wished for anything. He would only jump into each performance and do his best. He said, "No matter how great you are, you still need other people to cooperate to be able to achieve perfection." Wai Jai said that he has already entered into another stage. After age 50, he could play even more mature characters. He hoped that his future actor life will have new direction. He said, "For example, when I was little I saw John Travolta's SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, then in England I saw his PULP FICTION. I was wowed, I felt it was great for an actor to have this opportunity. When he was young he had his own representative work, in middle age he also had other developing character. I hope to be able to be like this." Wai Jai with THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) was nominated at the 56th Asia Pacific Film Festival, again running into STRAY DOG's Lee Kang-Sheng for the Best Actor competition. Wai Jai said that he was just as happy whether he or someone else won. In the past 30 years he has already received encouragement and support from the industry and friends. Thus he felt anyone who should be encouraged should be encouraged with awards. He pointed out that his state of mind now is already different. He was carefree with a lot but he would not announce that he would no longer accept awards because he was carefree. Carina Lau Ka Ling just celebrated her birthday. Because she was in Beijing, Wai Jai was unable to celebrate with Ka Ling. However he sent a gift. He denied though that he gave her a hundred million yuan home in Shanghai. Wai Jai pointed out that he will spend Christmas with Ka Ling, but they will not go overseas because he had to rehearse for Anita Mui Yim Fong's concert. For now he did not know what song he will sing as he was waiting for Jacky Cheung Hok Yau's arrangement. Wai Jai said that he would not give himself any pressure because it was not a singing contest. The effort and the intention were the most important. * (2013/12/13) Andy Lau Tak Wa promoted his film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO) and attended the "Turning Life into A Battlefield" forum at the Qinghua University as he conversed with Xiaomi technology CEO Lei Jun. Wa Jai talked about the topic of weakness and success and described himself as "a pig in the wind gap (go with the flow)". However Lei Jun said that online communication "character" has another meaning. In a game when items were left then the "Character was good". Wa Jai immediately said, "I feel I basically have no character!" He also shared his investment experience as Wa Jai said that he was a cautionary tale. When he was a boss in his youth he suffered a lot of setbacks. Back then after losing 40 million he gave everyone the impression that he was very hard working, but actually he was paying his debts with his salary. When would he retire? He said that when his company will go public then he will retire. A viewer asked how Wa Jai would choose between career and family. He said that he absolutely would choose family, so his wife felt very happy. The host gave Wa Jai a doll and suggested for him to throw it into the audience, but he chose to hand it to the viewer. He explained that at his concert one year, a fan in order to catch a gift died in an accident. Thus he would not do that again. Earlier Wa Jai appeared in a military coat while promoting FIRESTORM, Wa Jai said that he wore it for 5 or 6 years already. A female student asked for clothing donation for children in the mountain region. Wa Jai did a lap in the coat on the stage, then took it off and donated it. * (2013/12/13) Ava Yu Yu, Jeana Ho Pui Yu, and Alex Lam Tak Shun recently had a love triangle in the film LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 3). In it Jeana would seduce her friend Yu Kiu's boyfriend Alex. Yu Kiu would also be intimate with a Korean actor in the hot spring. Earlier they were interviewed. Alex spoke of Yu Kiu's intimate scene. "Before the shoot I didn't brush my teeth, I even had coffee." Yu Kiu said, "I had a garlic and lamb roll, the principle is not considering his feeling." Alex was between two women in the film, with which one did he savor more? He awkwardly said, "I can't answer that, there is no comparison. Yu Kiu tasted like garlic, Jeana tasted like champagne because she drank before the shoot." Jeana and Yu Kiu said that this performance broke through their sexy limits, thus they were reluctant to watch the film. When they spoke about getting intimate with Alex, Jeana said, "Very prickly, the stubble on his face were very prickly but I like that." Yu Kiu also agreed, "Prickly is good for its own reason. It feels very cool, very manly." Yu Kiu also could not forget how cold it was when she made her love scenes with Alex and the Korean actor, thus between their bodies were hot water bottles. * (2013/12/13) Philip Ng Won Lung's first lead role in a film, ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI (NGOK JIN) will be released in January. Yuen Woo Ping was the action director. Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) also starred. They mixed mixed martial art into the film's fights. Sammo Hung Kam Bo also guest starred. Yuen Woo Ping said that every move in ONCE's fight scene could not have flaw. He said that Ng Won Lung and On Chi Kit were very outstanding and will be future kung fu superstars. Some said that Ng Won Lung's performance had shades of Bruce Lee. Ng Won Lung said that he did not deliberately imitate him, but perhaps he was influenced unknowingly because he liked martial art films since childhood. Every martial art star has been very influential on him, otherwise he would not return from the U.S. to join the film industry. * (2013/12/13) In the film OVERHEARD 3 (SIT TING FUNG WON 3)'s new trailer, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and Zhou Xun appeared. The story subject would be the "2014 Tyrant War". The film made Zhou XUn its lead actress and strengthen the female role. She made connections with the numerous male characters and controlled the situation. In the stills, actors brought to live the expressions "joy, anger, worried, thoughtful, sorrow, threatened, fear" dramatically. Director Alan Mak Siu Fai said that actors in the film were all top actors. Characters exploded with acting and the excitement already exceeded its two predecessors. * (2013/12/12) Earlier DaDa Chan Jing due to mid grade depression "retired" from show business for 3 months. After a period of recovery, DaDa announced her complete return. Reportedly DaDa on the 15th will take to the red carpet with Celia Kwok Wing Yi as guests at the 56th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Macau. The Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress DaDa will present the evening's first award with the Golden Horse Best New Actor Kuo Shu-Yao. She admitted that she was happy to receive this chance. "I never guessed that after winning the award just last year I will get to present one this year. Although I don't know what category I will present, I am already very happy to have a chance to step onto this stage so quickly." Aside from the film festival, DaDa earlier revealed that during Christmas sh will be working on two films. Reportedly she will work with her friend Chapman To Man Jat on a version of FLIRTING SCHOLAR. In the film Ah Jat will play Tong Bak Fu while DaDa will play Pomegranate. In the film Tong Bak Fu will no longer be with Chau Heung but instead will be with Pomegranate. Was Ah Jat worried about Stephen Chow Sing Chi's precedence? He said, "Earlier Huang Xiaoming played the character too. If he dared how could I not dare to." DaDa said, "I am very happy that Ah Jat would give me another chance to be the lead actress. This time will be my first costume film. I am very confident that I will perform well. I don't mind that the film will have many hilarious expressions. This time Iris (Chung Choi Yi) will also have a part." * (2013/12/12) Best Actors Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Simon Yam Tat Wa starred Emperor new film AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG) will soon be released. In one scene Brother Wa and Ting Fung teamed up to save the severely injured fireman Patrick Tam Yiu Man. Brother Wa was 40 feet above ground as he used the strength of the rope to send Tam Yiu Man into Ting Fung's arms. The process involved physics, making the film more difficult than the average action film. Ting Fung said that during the shoot they often ran into technical issues like how to use a fire ax, open street hydrants, apply hoses and spray water, which they were not as familiar with as real firefighters. He also said that the Tam Yiu Man rescue scene was the most difficult. He said, "In that scene we had to make a rope between two places to save the injured from point A to point B. Its success depended on how you tied that rope. The technique involved was truly very difficult, the more intricate it was the trickier it got." The director revealed that the film did not want to show the heroic side of firefighters but to display their actual work environment, because the actual condition was worse than in the film. Brother Wa in the film played a firefight who rushed into a fire to rescue people. He said that he was very afraid of fire scenes. He said, "When I made Ng Yu Sum (John Woo)'s BULLET IN THE HEAD (DIP HUET GAI TAU), one side of my hand was burnt. A fire scene to me was a type of fear, which I overcame because I had a group of great actors with me. I discovered our actor spirit." The real rescue work was very awkward, firefighter rescues had to take place in an extremely short time with a lot of procedures. They would get messy when they got busy. In the film many action scenes had retired fire department principle fireman Hui Pui To on hand to supervise in order for us to capture the most realistic rescue procedure. Ting Fung even personally wrote a song for the film, with Super Boy contest runner up Oho Ou as its Mandarin version performer. * (2013/12/12) Martial art star Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai) two years ago became hemiplegic after suffering a stroke. Aside from his asset, he was also swept into a lawsuit over money with his former assistant. Luckily Lau Ka Fai's mood was not affected. He even actively accepted treatment. After over a year of recovery his condition has already vastly improved. Two days ago he even had tea at Central. Lau Ka Fai two days ago around 5PM appeared in a restaurant at Central with several friends. In a wheel chair he wore a baseball cap and a red jacket and appeared to be in a a decent mood. A friend fed him wonton. He not only took big bites but also chatted with his friends. At the same time, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and friends sat at the next table. When she discovered reporters taking photos, she waved and flashed a victory sign at the camera. Soon when Chin Wa was leaving she noticed Lau Ka Fai and greeted him. Chin Wa gave Master Lau a light pat on the shoulder and leaned over to whisper a few words. She even took out a photo to show him something, Master Lau smiled and nodded a few times. They chatted for about five minutes and Chin Wa bid him farewell. Chin Wa later talked about running into Master Lau, "When I saw him I immediately greeted him. He was in great spirit and eating. I even showed him my son's photos. Master smiled and said, 'Wow, such a big kid.' I am really happy to see him in great spirit, I hope his health would improve more and more." * (2013/12/12) Big director John Woo (Ng Yu Sum)'s new film THE CROSSING (TAI PING LUN) yesterday shot on location in Yangming Shan, Taipei. Although the local temperature only reached 6 degrees Celsius, Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) wore a flimsy Japanese style school uniform. Japanese star Masami Nagasawa only wore a short sleeved shirt to brave the cold. They were shivering in the chill but insisted on finishing the scene. For this scene, the film built a Japanese style home. * (2013/12/12) Nicholas Tse's rumors with Janice Man Wing Shan have been spreading like wild fire. They both had some reservation about the rumors. Recently promoting two films AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG) and FROM VEGAS TO MACAU (OH MOON FUNG WON), Ting Fung naturally was asked about his new romance. He officially said, "This isn't true!" He even made a very innocent look. Would he ask his sons for their opinions about his girlfriend? Speaking of his sons he became very cautious. "My son is already 6 (Lucas), I don't want to talk about this. I don't want to say too much about his son in the public." Yesterday Ting Fung and Chow Yun Fat along with Chapman To Man Jat and Jing Tian promoted their Lunar New Year film FROM VEGAS TO MACAU (OH MOON FUNG WON, formerly DOH SING FUNG WON). Wong Jing even boasted that the film will make 1.5 billion yuan at the box office and reign in the Mainland. Yesterday at the press conference, Fat Gor after 20 years returned to play a "god of gambler". For the role he lost over 20 kilograms before the production began. He joked that this time was very stressful, because his co-stars were all young people like Ting Fung and Jing Tian who were very thin. Even To Man Jat was thinner than him. So he had to lose weight. Ting Fung stated that every second of working with Fat Gor was a lesson. Fat Gor instead praised Ting Fung, "He is young, charming and hard working. Earlier I have already mentioned that the next 30 years of Hong Kong film will depend on Tse Ting Fung. Of course, my comment was intended for deliberately giving him pressure." Ting Fung yesterday saw the God of Gamblers' hand holding cards on the poster, but he joked that at first glance he thought a middle finger was raised. Wong Jing jokingly explained the meaning and said that he had two preparations for all films. Whoever refused to yield would get shown the middle finger. Fat Gor also had confidence in the film and felt that now the China film box office has already reached 20 billion yuan annually. In the next 10 years it might surpass the U.S. He also hoped that everyone would care for young actors, ultimately the future of Chinese films would depend on them. Fat Gor also played a "god" in THE MONKEY KING (DAI LAU TIN GUNG) during the Lunar New Year. Speaking of the clash of the two films, Wong Jing said without a care, "I have never worried before. Our poster has three hands, one hand has five fingers. This already clearly states our box office will make 1.5 billion." * (2013/12/12) A Swiss watch brand held a charity project with its model Proto Zero, as 10% of the proceed will go to the End Child Sexual Abuse Foundation. Last night the brand held a banquet and invited the Strongest in the Universe Donnie Yen Chi Yen and his wife Cissy Wang to attend. Recently China Central Television aired a Mainland film producer interview. On the program the producer blasted Yen Chi Tan's 30 million yuan RMB film salary as too high. It led to drastic production budget increase and indirectly affected film quality. Yen Chi Tan struck back, "20 some years ago salary at TVB was only HK$ 3,000. The film industry is a free and fluctuating market. The Mainland market has already turned over more than a dozen times. My rate is a reasonable price. Because I am both an action director and an actor, my productions days are several times that of a normal actor. The film shouldn't just rely on actors, but on everyone for a joint production. Criticizing actor prices alone is not fair enough." He also explained that with the right market and script he could take a pay cut or no pay at all! However if the film made 700 to 800 million, a large return ratio, he felt that since an actor gave, he deserved to get paid. He said, "It depends on the subject. If it is positive and by my people, I can charge less. When every boss tells me to charge less, can I ask them not to make money?" As for the idea of having a rate and a market in the business, he only answered that one was selling and the other was buying. Everyone was happy. He said satirically, "After the meal you complain about it being expensive, you might as well not eat!" As for his rumored 30 million RMB salary, he did not directly respond. He only said that it could be high and low, and described it as fluctuating like home prices. Was he worth the price? Yen Chi Tan said, "It's not up to me to say if I am worth it. If I ask for 300 million, no one would be willing to pay it! It mainly depends on viewers. I have several films in negotiation, in 2014 I want to reduce production and make movies that I want to make. (Are you afraid that people would accuse you of arrogance?) I am not asking for that much, when I took HK$3,000 you didn't write about it. When I took 30 million then you wrote about it. Ultimately the price could be high and low." He said that his wife calculated his medical bill, several ribs had cracks. He hinted that he has given a lot to film productions. * (2013/12/12) Known as Lady Lai in the film industry, Terry Lai and her husband Rigo Jesu founded the Intercontinental Group together. For 40 years they have contributed a lot to the film industry. Today they received the CineAsia film distributor lifetime achievement award. Yesterday her new collaborator Peter Lam Kin Ngok celebrated with them. The award represented the overseas recognition of their achievements. Lam Kin Ngo said that Lady Lai has always been innovating and daring to accept new things. Her never give up attitude was identical to his. Thus their award was worthy celebrating. Lady Lai in order to strengthen Intercontinental for the international stage worked with Lam Kin Ngok. The company will be named Media Asia Intercontinental Group. Terry Lai will continue to be the group's honorary chair. * (2013/12/12) Carina Lau Ka Ling and Tony Leung Ka Fai in the film BEIJING LOVE STORY began an affair in Greece on the Aegean Sea. Ka Ling showed off her sexy legs and Ka Fai his muscles in their bed scene. Ka Ling displayed her violent goddess side and kicked Ka Fai into the swimming pool. Although Ka Fai was soaked he did not show any weakness, as he roared at Ka Ling, "Why don't you take a look at the mirror and see how hot you are!" They have been friends for 20 years, but this was the first time that they went this far in a romance. They had a lot of fun with their performance. Ka Ling praised Ka Fai as an actor whom she liked very much. When she worked with him she was very at ease. Director Chen Sicheng while shoot a passion scene personally demonstrated for Ka Fai, which left Ka Fai somewhat embarrassed. * (2013/12/12) Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Raymond Wong Pak Ming this year worked together on the Lunar New Year film HELLO BABIES (LUK FUK HEI SI) with Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei and others. Cheng Chung Kei sacrificed himself for comedy as he came up with the scene when Chi Wai forced him into "feces". In one scene when he and Sit Hoi Kei were on a walk at the park, they found a baby by itself and took care of it temporarily. When he was changing its diaper, Chi Wai suddenly appeared and claimed that the baby was his granddaughter and suspected them to be kidnappers. When Chi Wai saw his granddaughter being taken away he immediately became Ip Man possessed, as he used his fists and the dirty diaper as weapons against Cheng Chung Kei. In the end Chi Wai forced Cheng Chung Kei's head onto the dirty diaper. Seeing how realistic the prop was, Cheng Chung Kei after the shoot screamed, "It's very hard to take!" Sit Hoi Kei often picked up the baby to coax her to sleep during her break, actually she had quite a way with the child. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1.
