She said that she was surprised and a little embarrassed but not hurt. Ting Fung officially worked on his first romance. He felt that he needed to, and with Gao Yuanyuan he decided to take the role. He said that romance was more relaxed, only a little colder. They will play from age 20 to 30 something. Ting Fung said that playing 20 something would be very hard. Yuanyuan said that as long as he smiled he would be 15 years younger. With lighting and make up he should be able to. They will have intimate scenes, mainly depending on the director's demand and the story requirements they would try to coordinate as much as they could. Ting Fung said that the shoot would be a little awkward. Yuanyuan was full of romantic film experience, would she teach Ting Fung? She said that she and Ting Fung did not have much exchange before, but they still had chemistry. She felt that everyone would have the experience of loving someone and did not need any special lesson. Ting Fung's love life has always garnered a lot of attention. How is he now? He said, "Very good. (Good?) I am just saying, do you have any other question?" * (2013/10/30) Whitney Hui Yik Nei, "Inch Mouth Barbie" Ha Wai Yu, Jeana Ho Pui Yu and Celia Kwok Wing Yi and other LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 3) actors two nights ago attended a wrap banquet in Tsim Sha Tsui. The actors fed each other sausages with their mouths in a dirty game. Hui Yik Nei and Ha Wai Yu both forgot about their intimate photos with their boyfriends, denied that they had boyfriends as they were single. Hui Yik Nei said that she was very nervous about her first film. During the shoot she had a lot of pressure and hoped to do her best. Would she invite her supposed boyfriend, Sun International Resource CEO Lo Kai Bong to watch the film? She said, "I am single right now, I would tell everyone if I was dating. I am not what I am what, being called a third party once is no big deal. Yet a decent woman being called the third party often would not be happy. I have always said that we are only ordinary friends. It's very normal to go to vacation, dinner and talk with friend." Ha Wai Yu earlier fainted and was hospitalized, reportedly her boyfriend upset her so much that she had chest pains. She denied that he was her boyfriend though. She explained that due to low blood pressure and weight loss, as well as the stress from the film, she fainted from the intense schedule and no rest. However she still could not help but protect him. She said, "We are ordinary friends, I feel very helpless that the media dug up his background. This would affect his future." Jeana and Kwok Wing Yi earlier celebrated Halloween with the retired DaDa Chan Jing. They said that they did not know if DaDa has spoken with their manager and only knew that she was recovering. As for DaDa doubling in size, Jeana spoke up for her. She felt that girls are prettier when they are a little fatter; Kwok Wing Yi also said that it was a clothing issue. Was Kwok Wing Yi worried that DaDa would make a comeback and take back her jobs? She said, "We have different directions." * (2013/10/29) "From now until forever, for better or worse, richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, happiness and sorrow, I will always love you, cherish you, marry me!" Speaking of his bathing scene, Siu Ho said, "Juno asked for it, in the end the scene revealed the rear. I didn't cover up 'front'. (Was the set cleared?) No need, everyone on the set are men. I don't have much to see anyway!" * (2013/10/29) Helena Law Lan appeared on Luisa Lai Chi San's TELLING MARIA 2. Did people yell at her when she played villains? She remembered once when she passed a cinema, a 30 something year old woman with a child saw her and immediately yelled "Slut"! However she never minded playing villains. She did not feel that she was a star but an actress. Actresses had to bring life to their characters. For the television series THE RETURN OF THE CONDOR HEROES (SUN DIU HUP NUI), she decided to take the role to challenge her own abilities because the script had a line, "Her laughter is piercing." Sh tried to perform a desolate yet haunting laughter. Later when she returned home her mother yelled at her, "Is TVB out of people? She is so ugly yet you are willing to play her!" * (2013/10/29) Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Simon Yam Tat Wa and William Chan Wai Ting starred in the film AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG). Yesterday a press conference was held at a Beijing fire house. The actors and director Derek Kwok Chi Kin appeared on fire trucks. Ting Fung and Lok Jai worked together again after 6 years and they admitted that their chemistry remained the same. At the press conference they chatted. Ting Fung humbly said that due to his asthma he was the worst physically among the cast. They used fire fighting tools to play games and finally they all lost. Ting Fung on a rare occasion responded to every rumor. Ting Fung said about his grandmother's passing in Australia, "More or less I am affected, but I don't want my affairs to affect work. The family will present incense sticks together at the suitable moment. If I have time I may go to Australia." He revealed that early this year he visited her there. She has already been in a coma for years, but she actually opened her eyes to take a few glimpses at him. He thought it was a miracle. He said, "Of course I am not used to the passing of a relative, but the most important is to positively face it. (Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi was rumored to prohibit their sons to attend the funeral in Australia?) That didn't happen!" As for Pak Chi taking their sons to study in Canada, and later due to her constantly traveling with them "truancy" was suspected. Ting Fung said, "I don't care about other people, I am already taking care of it very urgently." Ting Fung did not respond to Faye Wong and Li Yapeng's divorce, as for online suggestions of him getting back together with Faye Wong, he smiled and said, "I want to!" Lok Jai and Yam Tat Wa said that they have suffered a lot for this film because they had many dangerous stunts. Lok Jai and Hu Jun were both injured. Luckily they had a doctor on the set; Brother Wa said that normally he worked out, otherwise he might not be able to physically handle this production. Chan Wai Ting ran for over ten hours with an oxygen tanks on his back. How was his physical ability? He joked, "No, but with elders here I have to tough it out." Was Chan Wai Ting an embarrassment? Yam Tat Wa chimed in, "He was an embarrassment. He's great at dancing, but running is different." * (2013/10/28) Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming yesterday attended an event at the Sha Tin Race Track. A magazine claimed that when he worked in the Mainland on the Jackie Chan produced film YUET LOI SI YAU HEI, he caught the eyes of Frankie Chan Fun Kei's daughter Chan Yu Shu (formerly Chan Hoi Sum) as they posed for intimate photos; in additional two other actresses asked him to dinner. Ma Kwok Ming clarified, "The cover is very funny, saying that I am following Jackie Chan to make a living. Actually I am following TVB to make a living. The report said that I was very popular with women, unfortunately the fantasy was beautiful but the reality was cruel. The photo was only a still from the film, we didn't have dinner privately." Ma Kwok Ming also denied that actresses asked for his number and went to his hotel room to invite him to dinner. "Beijing and Shanghai girls are very demanding, maybe I don't qualify in their hearts." Reportedly Chan Yu Shu liked him very much. Ma Kwok Ming immediately said, "Yu Shu had it the worst because her photo was the largest. She had some scenes with sexier clothing. In the film we played a couple, the photos were only stills from the film. I can only tell her to treat it like a promotion." Ma Kwok Ming joked that no girl has taken any initiative to pursue him despite his god status. * (2013/10/28) Andy Lau Tak Wa shot a video to cheer on the Hong Kong Television employees and touched many in the city and online. Some also worried that Wa Jai would receive a Mainland ban because of the move; however, yesterday Wa Jai appeared in Beijing instantly for his 146th film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO)'s press conference, proving that he has not been "banned". According to Mainland reports, a reporter was about to ask Wa Jai about cheering for the HKTV employees at the press conference. His friend Billy Kong Chi Keung covered for him and hoped that the focus would remain on the film. FIRESTORM was the first 3D Chinese police action film. As producers Lau Tak Wa and Kong Chi Keung announced that the film will open on December 12 for the holidays in the Mainland and on December 19 in Hong Kong. At the event, Wa Jai also led a group on drums. Yao Chen got back into shape after giving birth. Actually in the film she and Gordon Lam Ka Tung had a bitter romance. She also had to perform in Cantonese, which gave her a lot of pressure. Thus she deliberately studied Cantonese two months before the production started. Yao Chen also revealed that when she shot the scene in which she told Lam Ka Tung about her pregnancy, she actually was pregnant for real. Only she did not know yet. She joked that she was pregnant on and off screen, the director actually was a psychic. Yao Chen even joked that since the director was so accurate, from now on he should make anyone who disobeys him on the set pregnant in the script. Wa Jai jokingly asked the director, "Everyday people are saying that I am expectant, did you write that?" When director Alan Yuen Kam Lun said that he did, Wa Jai immediately denied it, "You made that it!" Earlier Lam Ka Tung was rumored to originally be the film's lead but later Wa Jai became the lead, Lam Ka Tung was so disillusioned that he went to Media Asia after his contract ended with Wa Jai's company; yet yesterday at the press conference they were very friendly and did not look like they were at odds. Wa Jai even took Lam Ka Tung by the arm and said to Yao Chen, "Let's do this, next time in the script we will be in love, then you come and break us up!" * (2013/10/28) Carina Lau Ka Ling earlier promoted in Xian and revealed that she went to Wu Zetian's tomb while in Xian to experience the Tang Dynasty flavor. Her past co-stars like Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha), Joey Wang Cho Yin, Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam and Maggie Cheung Man Yuk have eased out of show business, why did she persist and kept acting? She said that everyone was in pursuit of different lives. Work enabled her to find herself and increased her self confidence, it was joy and sense of satisfaction. She wanted to play Soong Mei Ling, a character that she felt curious about and had a lot of room for imagination. Speaking of Tony Leung Chiu Wai's Golden Horse Award nomination, Ka Ling felt that her husband's chance of winning Best Actor was 90%. She also shared the secret of their marriage. She said that she was no love doctor, everyday she was still learning and trying. She felt that marriage had no formula, everyone was changing and improving everyday. To continue on required a lot of tolerance. * (2013/10/28) Yuen King Tan appeared on a Cable program and shared the joy and the pain of being a comedy actor. She pointed out that even when comedy films were hits, comedy actors would be at a disadvantage at award shows. She said, "Comedy actors would always be supports. However you don't need to give me an award, the most important is to give me money. If I can choose I wouldn't choose to make comedy, making comedy is very tiring and the treatment is worse than others." She once worked with Stephen Chow Sing Chi, and said that Sing Yeh has already achieved god class. "He would give you the freedom to perform, but after several tries that didn't work he would keep calling bad takes. You would be so scared that you would be stuttering. Once after getting the script I was so nervous that I hid in my room alone and kept practicing different performance methods. I had to be ready, otherwise my legs would go limp in front of Sing Yeh. Later I no longer worked on his films because I played all the cards I had." * (2013/10/28) The film KICK ASS ANGELS (BAU 3 CHIU GIU WA)'s theme song PREHISTORIC WEAPON (YUEN CHI MO HEI) has Sammi Cheng Sau Man as its performer. Director Cheuk Wan Chi gave special thanks to Cheng Sau Man for lending a hand and offering to sing the theme song for the film. Ah Chi for the rare occasion that Sammi agreed to "lend her voice" tailored the film theme song for her, as she hoped to work together further in the future. The new film that Ah Chi was planning would be a romantic comedy. She said that she would very likely work with Sammi, who was an outstanding actress. Rich with comedy cells, Sammi also had an exciting love life. During the script writing she hoped to invite Sammi to share. This was Ah Chi's first film as a director. She said that her directing dream has already been fulfilled, thus she had no pressure. Lead actress Chrissie Chau Sau Na said that this year has been very fulfilling as she made different types of films. KICK was an action film, which was a new attempt for her. * (2013/10/27) Vivian Hsu (Tsui Yeuk Suen) and Simon Yam Tat Wa starred in the film A CHILLING COSPLAY will soon open. In the new trailer and on the poster, Vivian appeared in sexy black undergarments and school uniforms. * (2013/10/27) October 25th was the anniversary of Danny Chan Pak Keung's passing. A film company two nights ago held a micro movie screening at Harbor City. Its female lead Rainky Wai Yu Yui said that this time her character was sadder. She said that her character in her earlier film MAY WE CHAT (LAN MUI JAI: MEI GAU SIU NUI) was sexier. Did she know of Chan Pak Keung? She said, "I have listened to Chan Pak Keung's songs and know how to sing RIPPLE (LIN YI). Lately I have been busy with my new song music video and film promotion." * (2013/10/27) Singer Alex Lam Tak Shun two nights aog attended a Club Monaco street party in Wanchai and participated in a bicycle race. Alex revealed that he has already completed his LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 3) bed scenes with pseudo model Jeana Ho Pui Yu. "The scene with Jeana went pretty smoothly and was done very quickly. At first I was a little nervous, but few people were there on the day of the shoot so it was done very quickly." * (2013/10/27) The Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Sean Lau Ching Wan starred new film THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK) was selected to be the opening film for the Asian Film Festival 2013. Two nights ago they attended the opening ceremony and said that they shot many dangerous stunts in Thailand for the film. Goo Jai said that he and Ka Fai worked on a building jump scene, after which they were told that it was a spot for suicides. He stated that he was a little scared. Would he consider declining further dangerous stunts? Ka Fai said, "This is worth paying attention to, actually I never wanted to but I don't know why I did." Goo Jai said that because sometimes he liked to make some more exciting stunts he never thought about not doing them. Ching Wan said that he would only occasionally make them. Was holding back his laughter while singing with Ka Fai the hardest part instead? Ching Wan and Goo Jai immediately joked that Ka Fai had a "Chau Guoon voice". Ching Wan said, "Singing wasn't hardest, but he really has his own style. He is a very outstanding singer." Ka Fai said that Ken Low Wai Kwong took him to check out the "gold fish tank" in Thailand, but he explained that he only wanted to look. In the end he did not get a chance. He said, "I heard some structures were constructed very prettily and very luxuriously, they turned out to be 'gold fish tanks'. However we weren't lucky enough to go, hopefully in the future I will have a chance to check them out, even if just to look around." Goo Jai said that this production was not too difficult, the stunts were dangerous but he had a lot of fun. It was rare for them to be able to dine and chat together overseas and for Ka Fai to dig around for "gold fish tank". Ka Fai immediately stressed, "How would I dig for them? I don't know Thai and don't know where to go, I might not even be able to get back to the hotel!" The trio said that later they will attend the Rome Film Festival. Will Ka Fai and Ching Wan bring their wives for a holiday? Ching Wan said, "I won't bring her, but she will follow me there." Ka Fai said that he will not. "Because normally we go on vacation as a family, I rarely go alone. This time will be like a solo vacation." * (2013/10/27) Eric Tsang Chi Wai earlier suddenly resigned from his Hong Kong Performing Artist Guild chair post. Choices for his successor became the center of attention. Rumored to be suitable choices were Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Eason Chan Yik Shun and others. Wong Chau Sun had the most support. Chi Wai said that he had a few choices in his mind as well and they were all responsible people. However he would not reveal them as he was afraid that he would affect membership voting. Chi Wai lamented, "In the past no matter how disillusioned I was I would still tough it out, after all the no I still served for 10 years. We created this Guild as a group. Ah Mui (Anita Mui Yim Fong) asked me to take care of it before she passed away. My duty now has been completed." Chi Wai did not want let others take advantage and made the decision. "This time someone is taking advantage, many who are not related chimed in. I felt that I had to come out and make an explanation. If I didn't they would continue to take advantage." Currently working in the Mainland, Chau Sun learned that he was a favorite to be the next chair. He said, "Who said that? Showing me so much respect." Would he be interested if he was chosen? Chau Sun admitted that someone has contacted him. He said, "Indeed someone has asked me to be the chair, but the chance probably wouldn't be great. I don't have the time and I am afraid that I can't handle it. I have been on the board before. Because everyone had their own jobs, it was hard for everyone to be present at the meetings. If not everyone was present it would be very hard to get things done. It's not just about having a chair, as long as the Cabinet can't be formed then nothing would be done." Performing Artist Guild vice chair John Shum Kin Fun was also a favorite, but last week he already resigned because he could not make time for the post. Shum Kin Fun did not want to comment further on the PAG troubles amid the license issuing incident and found Chi Wai's resignation regrettable. * (2013/10/27) After Eric Tsang Chi Wai resigned from the Performing Artist Guild chair post, Gordon Lam Ka Tung and John Shum Kin Fun were rumored to have also resigned. Lam Ka Tung yesterday attended film forum with Susan Shaw Yam Yam. He said that he already resigned the vice chair post 3 years when he was too busy with work. He thought Chi Wai and Shum Kin Fun's resignations were sudden and regrettable. He supposedly was upset that his role in the film FIRESTORM (FUNG BO) went from the lead to support and ended his employer employee relationship with Andy Lau Tak Wa. Lam Ka Tung stressed, "From the first day I knew I was in a starring role, one of the male leads. I didn't feel that my role was reduced. I am the lead, Wa Jai is the superstar! I only felt because I started a film production company, Wa Jai also encouraged me to be independent and work outside." Lam Ka Tung stressed that Wa Jai treated him very well and gave him many opportunities. They will continue to work together. He said, "Wa Jai asked me to write a script and even gave a down payment." TVB stated that it was building a big family culture. Lam Ka Tung hoped that TVB will be able to give its artists a little more respectable salary, as he knew that many veteran actors after over 20 years only paid over 10,000. Tsang Chi Wai's resignation made Shaw Yam Yam's heart ache. She said that he has always been willing to oppose evil forces. She did not know what made him willing to give up the duty of several hundred PAG members and the film industry. Shaw Yam Yam suggested Anthony Wong Chau Sun to be the next chair. * (2013/10/27) Nicola Cheung Sun Yu two nights ago attended a fashion magazine event with her husband. Anita Yuen Wing Yi earlier on the TELLING MARIA 2 program mentioned that in 1997 when she worked with a certain new comer on the film HE COMES FROM PLANET K (NGONG SING SIN SUN) some was elbowing for the spotlight. Some said that the new comer was Cheung Sun Yui. Cheung Sun Yui two nights ago responded. "I didn't see the program, I only found out from friends. For something that happened 16 years ago, I really can't remember. I would choose to remember the happy stuff, I have let go of a lot a long time ago." Would she apologize to Len Len? She said that since she forgot, what would she apologize for? She said, "I really like Len Len's C'EST LA VIE MON CHERI (SUN BUT LIU CHING), I hope to see her breakthrough performance soon." Would they feel awkward when they see each other? She said that she would not. Sometimes they would run into each other but never had a chance to greet each other. Now they are both mothers as well and busy on their own. Since she is Mrs. Yeung now, she should let go of show business and no more needed to be said. Yuen Wing Yi yesterday responded to Cheung Sun Yui forgetting any unpleasantness with her before. "That's good, I only said that when I was making movies before I didn't handle my emotions well enough. At the time I wasn't experienced enough. Later I have seen her. Once I ran into her at th supermarket and greeted her. The misunderstanding of youth is now let go as we are both mothers now." * (2013/10/26) Chapman To Man Jat yesterday continued to reveal his new film NAKED AMBITION 3D (HO CHING 2)'s costumes. In the photo Ah Jat was topless, in a pair of blue underwear and new blond hairstyle. "The Izakaya battle after work last night left the entire team with half a life today, as we completed the date's major bed scene! Brothers, you have had a long day! Aoi Tsukasa, you also performed very well! Everyone go home and early to bed, tomorrow we keep on fighting!" * (2013/10/26) The Donnie Yen Chi Tan starred film SPECIAL ID (DUT SHU SUN FUN) after a 21 million yuan RMB opening day in the Mainland already broke 100 million yuan two days ago. They promoted at many cinemas. With three actresses in tow Lam Fung of course was very lucky, but he and girlfriend Chin Yu BB were kept apart. Viewers asked Chin Yu BB why she did not play Lam Fung's wife in the film? The director explained that Chin Yu in the film was a tom boy who did not like guys, Lam Fung did not know whether to laugh or to cry. Although they were kept apart, Lam Fung took great care of his girlfriend and constantly kept an eye on her. Actually Chin BB's vehicle to Guangzhou got into an accident wit ha truck. Luckily they were not going fast and the driver reacted quickly, so everyone were safe. Chin Yu BB said that indeed she was very lucky and hoped to bring this good luck to the film. At the event, Lam Fung and Chin Yu both lost their games and had to accept their punishment. Lam Fung was made to wear jimmy's wig, Lam Fung who has always been beyond cool did not mind at all and made the fans scream. * (2013/10/25) Chapman To Man Jat is currently working on Chan Hing Ka's film NAKED AMBITION 3D (HO CHING 3D) in Japan. Yesterday he continued to post photos. This time his co-star was the "Hand of God" Taka Kato, who was in a costume that resembled Ji Gong. Ah Jat also posted a photo with an adult video actress. * (2013/10/25) Donnie Yen Chi Tan spoke to the Mainland media while promoting his film SPECIAL ID (DUT SHU SUN FUN). Speaking of early in the production and Vincent Zhao Wenzhou was rumored to be acting like a big shot, Chi Tan opened up for the first time. He stated that because Zhao Wenzhou repeatedly made demands like a presidential suite and salary increase, investors on four occasions wanted to recast. After ten days into the shoot, Chi Tan finally learned that Zhao Wenzhou brought eight or nine people to the set and the production paid for all of them. Chi Tan said, "I don't know why he would need so many people, I just brought one assistant to the shoot." As for Zhao Wenzhou reportedly revealed that Chi Tan was envious of his looks, Chi Tan said that he has worked with Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Wu Chun and others, all of them were handsome. Thus he did not want to respond to talks of envy. As for Shu Qi receiving negative attacks online after speaking up for Chi Tan, Chi Tan said that people who hurt Shu Qi were shameless and praised that Shu Qi was a professional and honorable actress. * (2013/10/25) Earlier winning the Huading Award Best Actor, Raymond Lam Fung continued to make different attempts in the film industry. Having made wuxia films and small romance, he performed in his first horror film 3D BABY BLUES (3D NGAI YING). He and Mainland new comer Janelle Sing Kwan played a couple and experienced many supernatural scenes. Because Karena Ng Chin Yu played Sing Kwan's sister, the outside focus inevitably fell on the "Fung Yu Romance". However Lam Fung praised Sing Kwan to be more suitable to play his wife than Chin Yu. "Sing Kwan's foundation is great, in addition she looks more mature like a married person. Chin Yu's character was more tomboyish, her own personality was also very direct so the casting was very appropriate. (Do you feel Chin Yu's acting has improved?) I too am just a new comer! Director Leong Po Chih is very experienced and very nice. He would teach us. (Will you work with Chin Yu again?) I don't want to, I feel we don't have to be too deliberate. Personal life should be separate from work." An admitted chicken, Lam Fung said that he rarely went to see ghost films. This time he had to shoot in a remote mansion on the Lantau Island, which was a big challenge to his courage. "I would easily scream when I watch horror films, but I don't want to scream out loud. However I want to keep trying new stuff when I work on movies, the house after decoration and lighting was truly eerie. I already felt it when I watched the playback, the 3D effects would certain be more shocking. (Did you run into anything?) No, I am a chicken. I even waited until someone would go with me to the bathroom. Once a song suddenly played on its own, which was a little strange but was very minor." He also revealed that he wore flip flops and ran on the rocky ground, which injured his big toe. So far it still could not bend. In another scene his underwater kiss with Kate Tsui Tsz Shan was also very memorable. A Beijing Film Academy graduate, Sing Kwan received boss Raymond Wong Pak Ming's support on her first film. She admitted that she was very lucky and thanked Lam Fung for taking care of her. "He taught me a lot, he really was able to give me a good husband impression and very quickly brought me into character." Sing Kwan played a pregnant wife who even had depression for the first time, which was rather difficult. She admitted that for awhile she could not leave the character. During breaks she still maintained her mysterious looks, which scared Lam Fung and the crew. * (2013/10/25) Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) yesterday along with director Lee Hsing and DRAGON GATE INN lead actor Shih Chun served as guardian angels for old Taiwan films as they urged old film rescue. The event demonstrated restoration results with Lam Ching Ha and Charlie Chin (Chun Cheung Lam)'s AUTUMN LOVE SONG. When she saw the kiss scene with her old flame Chun Cheung Lam she awkwardly laughed. Chun Cheung Lam has already agreed to return to Taiwan to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Chen Chen for this year's Golden Horse 50 and said that he would not mind sharing the stage with old flame Ching Ha. Will Ching Ha attend the Golden Horse Award? She said that when it gets closer to the Golden Horse Award she would give everyone a satisfying answer. Director Lee Hsing said that Ching Ha and Chun Cheung Lam both have their own happy families and did not have anything to mind about. Reportedly Ching Ha has already promised Chen Chen that she will definitely show her support. * (2013/10/25) Nicholas Tse Ting and Gao Yuanyuan's pure romance WITH OR WITHOUT (YUT SUN YUT SAI) will be Ting Fung's return to romance after 10 years. He and Gao Yuanyuan both also look forward to their first collaboration. They would perform a 30 year old romance, from the 70s to now. The film will shoot in Beijing, Hong Kong and New York. Ting Fung and Gao Yuanyuan at the table read were filled with sentiment, each person had a different answer for how long love lasts. In the film their answer would be for a lifetime. * (2013/10/24) The Juno Mak Chun Lung directed new film RIGOR MORTIS (GEUNG SI) asked 80s Vampire film representative Chin Siu HO to play as the story of a down on his luck middle aged man. In the film Siu Ho was famous for playing the vampire hunter in MR. VAMPIRE (GEUNG SI SIN SUN) but as time passed him by he tried to hang himself to end his life. Off screen, he too along with the decline of vampire films went to work in the Mainland. Occasionally he returned to Hong Kong to guest star, but he absolutely knew to enjoy life unlike his tragic character. Chin Siu Ho and Kara Hui (Wai Ying Hung) promoted their new film RIGOR MORTIS. They have been friends for years. Siu Hung admitted that the reason that she took this film was mainly Siu Ho, because the film was Siu Ho's "semi-autobiographical" story. "We are used to being action actors, switching to become the acting type is very hard. At our age, how much longer can w fight? Thus we have to tell people with our acting, we can act without fighting." Siu Ho said that in the beginning he was not the blue print for the story. Actually Juno wanted to tell the changes of the MR. VAMPIRE Master Disciple Trio of Lam Ching Ying, Ricky Hui Koon Ying and Chin Siu Ho. Yet Lam Ching Ying and Hui Koon Ying both passed away and it became his semi-autobiography. "The director wanted to say, back then I was very famous. Yet after the vampire film fever passed I had no work. He was very interested in this psychological journey." Actually the story was also similar to Siu Hung's real life. Back then she was was Hong Kong's most popular actress overseas. "I was offered a paper bag full of money to make a movie, but it didn't even have a script." Unfortunately as the fever cooled, leads became extras. Even if you were the best fighter in the world, once typecast no one would feel that you know how to act." Siu Hung stated that for awhile she was very lost and wanted to die. Luckily with her friends' support she transformed into today's Wai Ying Hung. In the film Siu Ho chose suicide, off screen the 50 years old said that he already has seen through life. "Everyone has a low point, no one should mind anything too much. Although both success and failure are due to vampires, after the low point should I still mind everything?" When action actors transition into actors, directors would always arranged for a lot of action scenes to "benefit" them. Siu Hung said that the toughest was the market scene at the end. "I fought with a vampire and was dragged all over the market with both dirty water and blood all over me. Because of additional shoots, I didn't dare to move. I had to wait for two hours before someone notified me of the make up change. At the time I was so mad that I almost cursed. Later I had to hose off in a public bathroom without a door, without a towel or any soap. At my age it was the first time I bathed in a market, at the time I really wanted to cry." Siu Hung stated that she had arguments with the director. "In a vampire duel scene, I had to push away a rushing vampire. The double charged in, if I didn't have any kung fu background and knew how to adjust I really would have dislocated something. Yet the director actually that the charge had to result in bones breaking out. I argued with him and said that it could be done in post production. I was so mad that I told him to give me his hand for me to demonstrate. He really stuck out his hand. Later the assistant director intervened and the director gave in." Siu Ho also complained that in one scene he and Richard Ng Yiu Hong fought in the mud. "With mud all over, after the shoot I didn't dare to sit. I was afraid that I would be stuck to the chair. I was all stiff in the make up room for over 20 hours. Those four months were like an out of body experience, everyday I had to console myself." Yet when they saw the results, they both said that they was worth all the hard work. * (2013/10/24) Eric Tsang Chi Wai yesterday rushed back from the Mainland to Hong Kong and called for a press conference to announce to resign as the chair of the Hong Kong Performing Artist Guild. The post will now be the responsibility of the secretaries. Tsang Chi Wai from 2003-2007, 2009-2011 served as the chair. His current term would originally end at the end of the year. The Guild has around 500 members, most are actors. Tsang Chi Wai said, "Lately I have been frequently asked why I haven't spoken up (about the television license issue), like the Guild that I represent. However all decisions must be passed through the committee. If what I myself say represents the Guild, it would be too much pressure to take. Thus I have decided to resign from the post of chairman. From now on the opinions that I will express will be personal." He stressed that the resignation was due to the film industry joint protest statement, the Guild that he represented did not communicate properly with the Directors' Guild and in the end the Performing Artist Guild was unable to participate in the alliance. As for internet radio host Stephen Shiu Yeuk Yuen's claim that Tsang Chi Wai called the Hong Kong Federation of Filmmakers chair Ng See Yuen to decline participation due to "(Last Saturday's press conference) would encourage protest marches and bring Hong Kong into chaos", Tsang Chi Wai yesterday said that the claim was untrue. When asked if he supported more competition in the television market, Tsang Chi Wai said that he sent artist Liu Kai Chi's interview via email to TVB, saying that now was a good opportunity for artists to speak from their hearts. "If every artist feels that the schedule and freedom of his or her current television station jobs have issues, it is worthy of industry considerations." He also said, "From an artist standpoint, not just 3 licenses, more licenses would provide more people with more career opportunities, which of course would be good" because "with the one station monopoly before, artists have no choice. With competition, television stations in order to find even better actors would have to improve their standards; artists can choose even better and more suitable environment for themselves." As for the Performing Artist Guild's statement being called too moderate since it only asked the government to explain the license issue result, Tsang Chi Wai said that it had to meet with the Guild's principles and not involve politics. He also said, "If we see colleagues who are remaining in the government HQ, everyone would be emotional." The Performing Artist Guild secretary General Astrid Chan Chi Ching said that many elders in the Guild felt that the Guild should not be involved in politics and disagreed with the Hong Kong Directors Guild issued statement's initial draft that targeted the government for not issuing Hong Kong Television or Ricky Wong Wai Kay a license, thus it did not join the joint statement. In addition, the Hong Kong Film Arts Association yesterday issued a statement that claimed its declination to participate in the joint statement was a decision made from a vote from the entire committee body and denied that the Association was "Tsang Chi Wai's 'underling'." The government announced last Tuesday that HKTV did not receive a television license. The Hong Kong Film Directors Guild along with the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild and Hong Kong Society of Cinematographers and other film industry organizations last Saturday held a press conference and issued a joint statement. That day the Performing Artist Guild and the Hong Kong Film Arts Association did not participate. On Monday (the 21st) the PAG twice issued statements and expressed that it "hoped the Hong Kong government would listen to public opinion and make explanation over individual incidents". * (2013/10/24) Carrie Ng Ka Lai's TELLING MARIA 2 interview two nights ago was aired with many intimate scenes between her and her film and television series co-stars like Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau Tak Wa, and Tony Leung Chiu Wai. Ng Ka Lai said that in the film CITY ON FIRE (LUNG FU FUNG WON) Chow Yun Fat showed more than she did. Back then in a television series she had a bathing scene with Leung Chiu Wai and with Chow Yun Fat in a film, both were done according to the directors' demands. * (2013/10/24) The film THE WHITE STORM (SO DUK)'s lead actors Sean Lau Ching Wan, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Louis Koo Tin Lok formed the "strongest group" and performed with RubberBand the 80s Adam Cheng Siu Chau's classic hit VOW TO ENTER BLADE MOUNTAIN (SAI YIU YUP DOH SAN). Actually that was their drinking song in the film, whenever they ran into trouble they would hum this song to cheer each other on. Cheung Ka Fai joked, "I like to sing as much as (Jacky) Cheung Hok Yau does, I perform this song in my Chau Guoon voice. The film brings out brotherly love with this song." Lau Ching Wan sang on this rare occasion. He admitted that he did not like to sing and this time he was afraid that everyone else had to suffer. Koo Tin Lok has released a record before. He thought that his return to the studio 10 years later was interesting. He joked, "I watched Ching Wan act when I was very little, I watched Ka Fai act when I was in secondary school. I never thought that I would sing with them!" * (2013/10/24) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa spoke with Luisa Lai Chi San on her TELLING MARIA 2 program. She talked about her husband Real Ting Chi Ko's encouragement and tolerance and her relationship with their son Torres. This year with LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) she won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress. Did her real life older woman younger man relationship help her get into her character more? She said, "After finding the right person, I could put my own feeling into the film. The audience also happened to draw their own conclusions." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, OCTOBER 27 2013, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD DONNIE YEN BIDS FAREWELL TO DEPRESSION Currently 50 years old, Donnie Yen Chi Tan earlier worked on the film SPECIAL ID (DUT SHU SUN FUN). Always demanding on himself he worked as producer, action director and actor. He was concerned with everything on and off screen, and his stress level was elevated. Even the "Strongest in the Universe" is only flesh and blood. In the end all the stress led him to depression. He often locked himself in his hotel room and talked to himself, leading to insomnia and anxiety. Chi Tan luckily after the film wrapped immediately pulled himself out. His family's love brought him out of the dead end as his depressed mood was relieved. - BEVERLY Yen Chi Tan in the 80s with his agility broke into show business. At the time he caught director Yuen Woo Ping's eyes, cast in his first film DRUNKEN TAI CHI (SIU TAI GIK) and took his first step in the film industry. Over his 30 year performing art career, Chi Tan's road has not been smooth. He has experienced highs and lows until 2008 when his film IP MAN became his career turning point. As he became the box office guarantee in recent years, for his latest film SPECIAL ID Chi Tan worked as a producer, an action director and an actor. His pressure rose in three folds. During the shoot Chi Tan was also revealed to be in a dispute with Vincent Zhao Wenzhou. With all the pressure from gossips and work, he admitted that at the time he had depression, lost his appetite and had to rely on sleeping pill to sleep. When SPECIAL shot in Shenzhen, Chi Tan had to take care of off screen business as well as on screen fight scenes. He was physically and mentally drained, even the Strongest in the Universe was overloaded. His stress level burst. He says, "When I was working in Shenzhen, I had depression. With all the troubles all at once, I couldn't resolve them all in time. I have locked myself in a hotel room. I couldn't eat or sleep, kept talking to myself. In order to resolve the problems I locked myself in to think. On the set I was very frustrated." Injuries All Over, Never Say Quit The more Chi Tan thought the more he painted himself into a corner. His wife Cissy Wang could not be more worried. To keep himself going, he says, " I relied on sleeping pills to sleep for a few hours. At the time because I didn't have time I couldn't return to Hong Kong to see a psychiatrist. I kept using will power to tough out to the end." When SPECIAL wrapped, Chi Tan went into a total rest state. With the support and care of his family, his mood finally gradually settled as he bid farewell to depression. As an action actor, on screen he fights valiantly but no one knows about all the blood and sweat off screen. Chi Tan since the start has wounds old and new in every part of his body. He says, "Injuries on the body are expected, as I get older exhaustion is certain. Even sports cars lose a little with frequent use!" For SPECIAL alone, Chi Tan injured his neck. He says, "I didn't notice during the shoot. After it wrapped, one day I realized that the fingers on my left hand were numb, cramping and aching. When I went to the doctor I found out that the cervical vertebrae was crushing the nerve and aggravated an old wound. My back also had bone spurs. When my left hand hurt the most, I thought about what I would do if I was paralyzed. After over two months of pain, now although the pain has eased, my left index finger doesn't have much feeling." Even though he is wounded all over, Chi Tan still never says quit. Sees The Potential In Andy Tien Yen Chi Tan is a hot property among action actors in the film industry now, but as he grows older the day will come when he will retire. Will he cultivate a successor? Chi Tan says, "In recent years I started a film company with Mr. Lam (Peter Lam Kin Ngok) because I wanted to cultivate more action actors. Some things you can't learn, many martial art stars in this business, like Lee Nin Kit (Jet Li) and Bruce Lee, appeared by chance. Lee Nin Kit started with the National Wu Shu Team. In Bruce Lee's era there were many kung fu film opportunities. Now the time has changed, even with a martial art background you still may not get a chance." In the current film industry, Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) has the most appropriate timing, location and people. Chi Tan says, "He is considered having both substance and potential." However, Chi Tan and On Chi Kit's fight scene in the film SPECIAL ID actually had an accident. Chi Tan says, "One day I was distracted and his kick landed on my head. I fainted for a few minutes. As his entire 180 pound body fell on top of my head, the force increased by multiples. It was quite a hit!" 2. MING PAO DAILY, OCTOBER 27 2013, FILM WORDS HONG KONG VAMPIRE FILM HAS EEIRE VISUALS Among this week's several new films, Hollywood Best Actor Tom Hanks' CAPTAIN PHILIPS has the most buzz. Yet its Hong Kong opening box office was only in second place. In first place was the much smaller scale Hong Kong film RIGOR MORTIS (GEUNG SI). In recent years Hong Kong films have some signs of rebound. UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) made over HK$ 40 million, OUT OF INFERNO (TOH CHOOK SUN TIN) 20 million, THE STOLEN YEARS 18 million, low budget youth film THE WAY WE DANCE (KONG MO PAI)'s 13 million was even a pleasant surprise. Tsui Hark's YOUNG DETECTIVE DEE: RISE OF THE SEA DRAGON (DIK YUN KIT ji SUN DOH LUNG WONG) neared 600 million RMB in the Mainland box office. Although its Hong Kong take was much further behind, it still had 8 million. Donnie Yen Chi Tan's new film SPECIAL ID (DUT SHU SUN FUN) has entertaining fights. The Wong Jing directed MR. AND MRS. PLAYER (LAN GWUN FU DAU LAN GWUN CHAI) also had its supporters. Of course, Hong Kong films still have hardship galore, certainly it has not lost its sign of life and will power. RIGOR MORTIS: Dark And Odd The Juno Mak Chun Lung written and directed, Japan's Takashi Shimizu produced RIGOR MORTIS is not a mainstream entertainment film, but an unique alternative supernatural work that is very dark and odd. Overall its story actually does not work too well and often runs into problems. Yet undoubtedly it captures unique visual atmosphere, Hong Kong housing estate nostalgia as well as old Hong Kong vampire film and martial art film salutes. In particular it reminisces on the 1985 Ricky Lau Koon Wai directed, Lam Ching Ying, Chin Siu Ho, Ricky Hui Koon Ying, Pauline Wong Siu Fung starred MR. VAMPIRE (GEUNG SI SIN SUN) -- the film back then was not only a hit in Hong Kong and Taiwan, it was also popular in Japan. Lead Chin Siu Ho's character was somewhat similar to himself. A 80s star who has passed his prime, he moves to a rundown public housing "haunted house" to attempt suicide. The story happens in the maze of a netherworld like housing estate, often ghosts and illusions can be seen. It also has old people who resemble ghosts, crazy lady, strange child and a Maoshan priest, even brews a murder mystery and leads to the mystery of vampire resurrection "ancient curse". The leads struggle in the crisis, can he "return to life from the brink of death"? Aside from Chin Siu Ho, the film also has many stars of the previous generation. Richard Ng Yiu Han and Nina Paw Hee Ching play a loving old couple. Kara Hui (Wai YIng Hung) plays a vanishing crazy lady, Lo Hoi Pang plays a kind hearted old housing estate security guard. The most outstanding is Anthony Chan Yau as the housing estate food stall stranger with a priest background and Chung Fat as the priest. They bring Chinese style Taoist magic to this vampire film, which drastically differs from vampire films of the West. Singer Mak Chun Lung wrote and starred in the Wong Ching Po directed REVENGE A LOVE STORY (FOOK SAU JEH JI SEI), which had an unique film style. He also starred in Wong Ching Po's LET'S GO! (PO WAI JIN DUI ji CHOOK DUNG LA! PUNG YAU), which was poor. This time he wrote and directed but not starred, displayed a very strong film sense and actively used computer magic. He is a new director with a lot of potential. Yet as mentioned before, this film's story is lacking. It is excessive with extreme gimmicks, every shot is rather odd. yet the story arrangement and character depictions are less than ideal and needs a lot of effort to improve. In comparison, Peter Chan Ho Sun's THREE: GOING HOME (SAM GAN ji WUI GA) had similar subject and background to this film, overall it was much more successful. (two and a half out of five stars) SECOND SIGHT 3D: Innovative And Elegant Another Eastern ghost film this week is Thailand's SECOND SIGHT 3D. The opposite of the dark and rundown RIGOR MORTIS, the film is very modern, innovative and elegant. However in the same manner it has a decent idea that has been made to look like it works but it does not. This film is a special package mainstream big production with handsome and beautiful Thai stars. The lad actor since childhood has been about to see ghosts and predict the future. After becoming a big time lawyer he gets everything he wants and is very successful. This time he defends a rich girl who is involved in a fatal car accident but gets into trouble. He even makes girlfriend keep running to ghosts. SECOND SIGHT 3D's packaging is elegant, concept is wonderful. Even Thailand where hexes and ghosts have been popular since ancient times can play with modern new ghost stories, captures ghost sight and super power that can predict the fate of others. The user however cannot predict his own fate and is himself at the mercy of ate. The problem is the story gets more and more complicated, the ending feels absurd. This film's past life relationships are excessively contrived and coincidental, as it just keeps making drama for the sake of drama without any clear explanation. Eastern ghost stories actually are rich and colorful, can be mixed with the West, the new and the old. Yet now most writer and director's ability and professional quality undoubtedly are no match for supernatural films of the West. Panh illuminates a lesser-seen, but not less vital segment of the Cambodian people, as he and his documentary crew follow disillusioned prostitutes living and working in Phnom Penh. Similar to S21: The Khmer Rouge Death Machine, Panh’s style is neither didactic nor lecturing but is instead a tapestry woven by his subjects as they reenact and comment on their daily drudgery. Serving as a silent witness, Panh’s camera nor his crew ever interfere, allowing these marginalized women to create their own indelible document. A COMPLICATED STORY Can : Yut Gor Fook Jap Goo Si d. After almost two decades and a distinguished career as one of world’s preeminent auteurs, it seems only fitting that the Malaysian-born, Taiwanese filmmaker would pick up the Grand Jury Prize at the same festival with possibly his swan song, Stray Dogs. Tsai regular Lee Kang-Sheng plays an impoverished Taipei man who holds up advertising placards by day and lives in a deserted building with his two children by night. A kind-hearted supermarket staff helps out the kids, although things take a subsequent turn for the surreal as hints of regret and loss flood into the film. Its pair of ten-minute-plus final shots provide a haunting and strangely emotional conclusion to an oeuvre that, even when considered as part of the Slow Cinema movement, stands as one of a kind. THE LUNCHBOX d. Ritesh Batra Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur Length : 104 mins. Opening November 2 2013 at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival Site : http://www.hkaff.asia/newtalent/The_Lunchbox.html [ HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL ] Already hailed by many as one of the most charming Indian dramas in recent years, writer-director Ritesh Batra’s Mumbai-set debut tells the story of two lonely souls who are coincidentally connected over a mix-up in lunchbox service. Saajan is a grouchy and withdrawn widower who’s counting his days to retirement after 35 years in a joyless job; Ila, meanwhile, is a sad and neglected housewife despite being a wizard of a cook. As the pair of strangers begin pouring their hearts out to each other in the hand-written notes they hide in the wrongly delivered lunchbox every day, the film gently reveals itself to be a heart-warming tale on the sorrows of aging and the redemptive value of human connection. And as the characters whimsically suggest: sometimes the wrong train might just get you to the right station. WHY DON'T YOU PLAY IN HELL d. Sion Sono Jun Kunimura, Shinichi Tsutsumi, Hiroki Hasegawa, Fumi Nikaido Length : 126 mins. Opening November 2 2013 at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival Site : http://www.hkaff.asia/midnight/Why_Don_t_You_Play_in_Hell.html [ HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL ] Sion Sono pays tribute to movie magic with a wild, blood-soaked comedy that the filmmaker calls a “requiem to 35mm film.” Ten years after a gangland massacre derails Mitsuko’s child star career, her father Muto attempts to give her a long-awaited comeback by casting her as the lead of an indie film. However, Mitsuko takes off in the middle of the shoot and massacre survivor Ikegami (Tsutsumi Shinichi) is back to take revenge. Now, it’s up to the film crew to bring Mitsuko back and finish the film – while trapped in the middle of a yakuza war. Filled with maniacal murderers and equally crazy filmmakers, Why Don’t You Play in Hell is easily Sono’s most playful film since Love Exposure. INTRUDER d. When bodies are found in the woods, he realizes too late that the answer has been in front of him all along. LETTERS FROM THE SOUTH d. Her latest solitarian target: An old man who spends his time at home watching pornography. Nami grows progressively obsessed with the old man, and she soon crosses the line from peeping tom to kidnapper. Dealing with issues like religion, isolation, fetishes and even Japan's aging society, the latest film from Brazil-born Eiji Uchida is a wild genre mishmash that will make you laugh and keep you at the edge of your seats. PRINCESS SAKURA: FORBIDDEN PLEASURES d. Hajime Hashimoto Kyoko Hinami, Munetaka Aoki, Denden Length : 96 mins. Opening November 3 2013 at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival Site : http://www.hkaff.asia/midnight/Princess_Sakura_Forbidden_Pleasure.html [ HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL ] The Japanese jidaigeki (period swordplay) genre gets an erotic twist with this wildly entertaining film. Despite only recognizing him by his tattoo, Sakura falls madly in love with her attacker, even to the point of getting the same tattoo as him. Soon, Sakura gives up her life of luxury and becomes a prostitute. Based on the kabuki play Sakurahime Azuma Bunsho, director Hashimoto Hajime’s experimental reinvention of this classic story of love and obsession comes with plenty of style and (very) dark humor. One day, one of these zombies, a scarred shell of a beautiful woman named Sara, is delivered to the Teramoto family. Working as a maid, Sara is ultimately exploited as a sex tool for the father and becomes the target of the mother’s scorn. SABU offers a refreshing twist to a familiar genre, making his zombie the most sympathetic character in this disturbing and surprisingly touching film. BLACK SQUARE d. Meanwhile, Sa participates in Vadakan’s scripted narrative, which depicts Sa’s bittersweet search for real love between her daily toils. Sa Sittijun displays natural poise playing a fictionalized version of herself in this assured and illuminating first feature from Visra Vichit Vadakan. THE MISSING PICTURE d. RithyPanh Length : 90 mins. Opening November 4 2013 at the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival Site : http://www.hkaff.asia/rithy/The_Missing_Picture.html [ HONG KONG ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL ] Winner of the top prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, The Missing Picture is a haunting and undeniably bold documentary about the Cambodia genocide. The film depicts the teenage years of director RithyPanh, when his family suffered horribly beneath Pol Pot’s dictatorial regime. The picture, however, is “missing”. The only filmed images that exist from those years are Khmer Rouge propaganda, so Panh uses clay figures as stand-ins for himself, and also many Cambodians who would suffer atrocities at the Khmer Rouge’s hands. As a harrowing memoir of an oppressed people and a cinema experiment in representation, The Missing Picture is worthy of all its accolades, both past and forthcoming. ONE EVENING AFTER THE WAR d. The man B. has an affair with a bored married woman E., who eventually dumps him.
