MISCELLANEOUS * (2013/09/25) The Johnnie To Kei Fung directed new film DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART 2 (DAN SUN NAM NUI 2) yesterday shot on location in Tsim Sha Tsui. Vic Chou Yu Man (Jai Jai) and Gao Yuanyuan who have worked with To Sir performed an intimate "rear smacking" scene with familiarity. On the other hand Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa was a little nervous on her first collaboration with To Sir and did not smile at all! With the 2011 film DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART's ideal box office and word of mouth, a sequel recently began production. Aside from the original cast of Louis Koo Tin Lok and Gao Yuanyuan, Chou Yu Man and Yeung Chin Wa joined the cast as nw blood. Yesterday they shot on location at a Tsim Sha Tsui wedding shop. Known for being serious, director To Kei Fung often ran back and forth to check out the marks. Around noon Jai Jai and Gao Yuanyuan's wedding gown fitting scene was shot first. While Gao Yuanyuan concentrated on looking at the mirror Jai Jai gave her a smack on the rear with familiarity. To Sir even personally instructed Jai Jai how to give the spanking. Jai Jai and Yuanyuan both have worked with To Sir before and were full of chemistry. After being instructed they very quickly got into character. Because Jai Jai and Gao Yuanyuan's current boyfriend Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) over a year ago worked together on the Taiwan series BLACK AND WHITE were rumored to be at odds over the Golden Bell Award, before the shoot some worried that their collaboration would be awkward. However, Jai Jai before hand praised Gao Yuanyuan on her aura and on the set they chatted and laughed. On the other hand, Yeung Chin Wa who was working with To Sir for the first time seemed to need some time. When she drove a white Ferrari Chin Wa had "zero smile" in the car or on the side of the road. She appeared to be tense throughout. Rain came and the production was forced to halt. When the crew brought umbrellas to her, Chin Wa frowned and quickly left. At night another scene was shot. Both lead actresses changed costumes. Gao Yuanyuan pointed around on the street corner while Chin Wa continued to have no expression. Actually, Chin Wa has been working on two films DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART 2 and MAN JU SA WA (MANJUSAKA) recently and at the time she was already complaining. She said, "After shooting these two movies, I definitely have to take a break. Otherwise I would go nuts, at least I will take a few months off!" With this cast including the other lead actor Koo Tin Lok all worked with To Sir before, no wonder the new addition Chin Wa would feel the pressure. * (2013/09/25) Angelababy (Yang Ying) and Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) yesterday promoted their film YOUNG DETECTIVE DEE RISING OF THE SEA DRAGON (DIK YUN KIT ji SUN DOH LUNG WONG). Some media outlets caught Huang Xiaoming bringing his parents to Hong Kong to meet his girlfriend Baby earlier and claimed that they were discussing marriage; Baby admitted that she has met Huang Xiaoming's parents but denied the wedding rumor. Reportedly she took great care of his parents? She said, "I have always taken great care of friends around me. When I worked with Chiu Yau Ting's father on the film FIRST TIME, I also took great care for Father Chiu. I even took care of Chiu Yau Ting. (Did Huang Xiaoming's parents come to Hong Kong to discuss marriage?) I want to have more personal space and ask everyone to spare me." Today she will head to Paris for Fashion Week. Will she buy any gift for his parents? She said, "I will buy some for myself and treat myself a little better. (Will you shop for Huang Xiaoming?) I will check out female clothing only." Chiu Yau Ting worked with Baby again. He pointed out that Baby used to just people an impression of a pretty exterior. This time she truly was an actress. He said that because the film had many under water scenes, it was very tough. In one scene he had to dive from 3 meter above into a 6 meter deep pool, which took 3 days to make. The water pressure made him very uncomfortable and gave him a nosebleed. He joked that he has been scared off and would never make another scene in the water. * (2013/09/25) Joey Man Yi Man, Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu and Meg Lam Kin Ming yesterday promoted the November 17 Joyful Mental Health Foundation Ocean park charity run. Man Yi Man and Kwan Chor Yiu will be the ambassadors and participate in the run to raise funds. Kwan Chor Yiu after working with Chrissie Chau Sau Na on KICK ASS GIRLS (BAU 3 CHIU GIU WA) were rumored to be dating in secret for 3 months. When they met for a night run they appeared close. Yesterday Kwan Chor Yiu appeared embarrassed when asked about his rumors with Sister Na. They became familiar due to the movie shoot, they were only friends who met for exercise and were not dating. He said that Sister Na often had to work overseas so they rarely met to run. However he would invite her to participate in the Joyful Foundation charity fun. He and Sister Na were both single, would they have any chance to develop? Kwan Chor Yiu said that it would depend on fate. Big Sister Ming cut in and joked, "Chau Sau Na is my younger version, if you are destined that I have to congratulate you!" He awkwardly smiled but did not reply. * (2013/09/25) The Pang Brothers directed, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Angelica Lee Sinjie and Eddie Cheung Siu Fai starred film OUT OF INFERNO 3D (TOH CHOOK SUN TIN 3D) two nights ago held a Yan Chai charity premiere. In a red dress Lee Sinjie again attracted pregnancy suspicions, which she denied. "I am not pregnant, I would let the child come naturally and not give myself too much pressure. My husband (Oxide Pang Shun) already has one daughter and he is ambivalent. Maybe I want it a little more, as I want to experience the process of being a mother." She did not take Chinese herbal medicine to nourish her body and tried to live as normally as she could. Despite the premiere, she still ran in the morning. She also practiced Qi Gong and Tai Chi. Koo Tin Lok denied investing in OUT. Was he interested in investing in a film? He said, "If I invest, I definitely would find my co-star of 12 films Lau Ching Wan to star. No one has ever asked me to invest my salary. I rather enjoy my job as an actor. I am not too interested in investing. The film production risk is enormous. Unless it is a sure thing or I really like the script, I wouldn't consider it yet." Lau Ching Wan admitted that he was only interested in acting. Did he invest in real estate? He said, "No comment." Did he leave it for his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming to take care of? "My wife also doesn't have too much interest in investing." Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) came in support. She just finished her Lunar New Year film, in which she was paired with Yu Bo. Did she like "big guys" now? She joked, "I only expected his height to be taller. I play a pregnant woman so I can't wear high heels." She will head to Paris for a fashion show and shop on the trip. "I like to look at pretty things, including handsome men. However I don't want a foreign romance because the cultures are different. Chinese people are more suitable." * (2013/09/25) The Asia Pacific Film Festival this year reached its 56th year. Ngan Cheuk Ling is in negotiation for a comedy. She claimed to have a sense of humor. "As a comedy star I will be out of control. I don't mind being made ugly, like (Karen) Mok Man Wai in GOD OF COOKERY (SIK SUN). I am not too pretty anyway." She hoped that the film production would not affect her education and she would not need to skip classes. * (2013/09/25) Chrissie Chau Sau Na and Chapman To Man Jat two nights ago attended the film MR. AND MRS. PLAYER (LAN GWUN FU DAU LAN GWUN CHAI) premiere. Sister Na's dress was made too tight and flattened her bust, but she did not seem to mind at all. She even smiled and said that even was enough. On the other hand she felt Ah Jat's muscles were very attractive and she wanted to touch them, but seeing Mrs. To Krystal Tin Yui Nei on hand she did not dare to act. Sister Na said that although she successfully beat the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 8 to work in Beijing, but she did not have time to make dinner plans with a Beijing friend who she mentioned earlier. He did not approach her either. Was the Beijing friend the supposedly married heir Dong Lu? She said, "No! I don't know why the writing turned into him. He has a wife, of course he can't be. He is just a business friend. As for the friend I am getting to know everyone can call him Mr. B, Beijing friend. Whether or not he is another heir it is unimportant. After I get to know him I will tell everyone." When asked if her former boyfriend Avis Chan Wai Sing and his girlfriend Yumi Wan Chun Hei's constant public displays of affection made her eyes hurt? She only lightly said that she did not notice. Ah Jat successfully lost weight to prepare for his new film next month, NAKED AMBITION 2 (HO CHING 2). His wife Tin Yui Nei said that she was not afraid of the attention that his fitness would draw and that Ah Jat should be the on who was afraid. Ah Jat said, "I agree with what my wife said too. She is constantly taking roles that have many romances, relationship is very fragile so I have to increase my own self worth. Now I am working hard for the new mobile phone release. I hope to get it before my wife's birthday for a present. I also already planned to personally cook and celebrate my wife's birthday with my wife and our new cat." When asked if he wanted to challenge Nick Cheung Ka Fai who also trained for a movie, he said, "He made UNBEATABLE and I will just make bed scenes! Because I will have to show my rear, I have to train too. I have to transform into 'Gu Gui Gei' (Rear Big Muscle), now I am just "Gu Siu Gei' (Rear Little Muscle)!" Ah Jat pointed out that the new film will not only have the soon retiring Japanese adult video actor Taka Kato, but the film company also wanted to invite "Blow Job God" Takuya-San to join the cast. Ah Jat said, "Because I ran into a setback and became impotent, I had to find him to bring me back to life." He pointed out that his songs were suitable for all Hong Kong to listen to. * (2013/09/20) The film THE WAY WE DANCE (KONG MO PAI) won word of mouth and box office. As of yesterday at noon, its cumulative box office was HK$ 11,747,297. The film even won the "audience prize" at the Fukuoka International Film Festival. Director Adam Wong Sau Ping, producer Chan Sum Yiu and lead actor Babyjohn Choi Hong Yik were mad with joy. Choi Hong Yik excitedly said, "THE WAY WE DANCE has brought many first times to me, including making a movie, attending a film festival in Japan, and walking the red carpet. It also won my first award in film. I am truly very excited and emotional, I am happy for the director and the producer." Wong Sau Ping said, "I originally thought THE WAY WE DANCE's popularity in Hong Kong was because of some unique situations here at this moment. Thus this award from viewer votes in Fukuoka is further recognition of th entire team's quality and effort." They stayed 7 days at the film festival and received an overwhelming response from the Japanese audience, which surprised them very much. Choi Hong Yik even received gifts from Japanese fans much to his surprise. Producer Chan Sum Yiu said, "The award has brought us a lot of strength to make good Hong Kong films. Hopefully even more viewers around the world will be able to enjoy more and more Hong Kong films." * (2013/09/19) Internet writer Xiang Xi Haruk Murakami last year with his book, which Stephen Shiu Jr. invested into the category III film DUE WEST: OUR SEX JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI) 3D. Xiang Xi at tihs year's Book Fair released sex thriller novel THE SINKING TAXI, which was also popular. This story caught the eyes of the film KICK ASS GIRLS (BAU 3 CHIU GIU WA) producer Charlie Wong Wing Fung. Later he will produce the film of the same title with new director Leung Chi Ming. In the story a middle aged man who suffered a career setback became a deranged taxi driver. On one night he picked up his former boss' daughter who abused him before. The taxi driver while the girl was drunk kidnapped then killed her. The plan went perfectly. The taxi driver after getting the ransom escaped prosecution and even went into business. Unfortunately due to improper operation he suffered a setback, felt guilty and turned himself in. Charlie at the end of the year will start production on the film, which will cost HK$ 8 million. He said yesterday, "I intend for Lee Chi Ting (Aarif Rahman) or Tsui Tin Yau to be the taxi driver. The taxi driver's girlfriend is Jeana (Ho Pui Yu). They will have love scenes. As for his first girlfriend she will be the MAN LAN SUN GUNG Malaysian new comer (Cathryn) Lee Yuen Ling." The original novel has blood, violence and foul language. The film will be category IIB for now. Charlie did not eliminate adding more to the film and raise the rating to III. Jeana said that she was not afraid of the side effect of a thriller. She said, "Lately I watched THE UNTOLD STORY and TAXI HUNTER and studied how to play scared." * (2013/09/19) Singers Ava Yu Kiu, Alex Lam Tak Shun two nights ago worked on their film LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 3) at Central. Yet due to a costume mistake the production was hindered, director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai blew up with foul language. Yu Kiu even changed in a temporary changing room. Yu Kiu went without a bra. She said, "I only had pasties on!" Before the shoot she took medication because she caught a cold while working on another film. She also revealed that she and Alex played a couple, but he often hooked up with other women. Thus she would hit him in a scene. After a few more days they will work on a bed scene. Has a girlfriend hit Alex on the streets? He awkwardly said, "It has happened before! (Why did she hit you?) I don't know, you have to ask them. (More than one hit you?) My memory isn't good!" * (2013/09/19) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu and Peter Chan Ho Sun have been in love for years. Earlier Mainland star Tian Pujun wrote an expose that claimed Chan Ho Sun was her "boyfriend" for years. Two nights ago Kwan Yu and Chan Ho Sun lovingly attended an event, trading romantic jabs and sticking close for photos. Chan Ho Sun stated that he only needed to explain to his wife and would reserve the right to take legal action against untrue reports, proving that their relationship has not been affected. After the "boyfriend" incident surfaced, Kwan Yu only dominantly responded, "Chan Ho Sun's heart (and finances) belong to me!" Two nights ago Kwan Yu attended Perfect Art Exhibition -- Fine Art and Caricature, she had two paintings in display and Chan Ho Sun came to support her. They also sent a floral arrangement together. They lovingly stuck close to each other for photos. Chan Ho Sun saw Kwan Yu's artwork and praised immediately, "You drew it? It's great!" Kwan Yu said that Chan Ho Sun's father taught her to draw her first drawing, then she went to look for a teacher to learn to draw. Chan Ho Sun jokingly praised Kwan Yu, "Kwan Yu draws like she acts, with a strong ability to impersonate." Kwan Yu clarified that her acting was original creation. Chan Ho Sun again joked, "When Kwan Yu saw anything good in a foreign film she would reprise it once." They traded romantic jabs in front of reporters as their relationship seemed unaffected. Speaking of the Tian Pujun "boyfriend" storm, Kwan Yu said, "I definitely wouldn't talk about it." Chan Ho Sun said, "Now it is getting more and more outrageous, (reports) are made up like this. I don't need to clarify because I have said everything that I wanted to say. I don't need to prove anything with action. I am only here to look at art." Chan Ho Sun said that he was overseas for past 3 weeks, even his daughter called him to tell him to come home. He said that he will spend the Mid Autumn Festival in Hong Kong with his family. Did he call Kwan Yu afterward? He said, "We call each other everyday, whether there was an incident or not. (Did you contact Tian Pujun?) No! I wouldn't respond again. I don't need to explain to everyone. I only need to explain to my wife." Speaking of him being philandering, Chan Ho Sun angrily said, "The magazine completely made it up. It's too exaggerated. If you want a response the lawyer will respond, I am looking for legal advice." Kwan Yu said that she already responded online and joked that after 3 gags the incident would passed. Yesterday Chan Ho Sun was incorrectly reported online as reserving all rights to take legal action against Tian Pujun. Chan Ho Sun yesterday issued a statement through We Production's Weibo, clarifying that he would only take legal action against untrue reports and media, not Tian Pujun. * (2013/09/19) Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun)'s OPUS JAY WORLD TOUCH two nights ago held its fifth show in Hong Kong. Guest performers included YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI)'s Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Chin Kar Lok, Jordan Chan Siu Chun, Jerry Lamb Hiu Fung, Michael Tse Tin Wa and Angelababy. Chow Kit Lun in one scene was being bullied. He in not so fluent Cantonese invited 5 Wise Guys to help. Cheng Yi Kin, Chin Kar Lok, Chan Siu Chun, Lamb Hiu Fung and Tse Tin Wa immediately appeared. Chin Kar Lok, "We are just as powerful here, we don't know who would win without fighting!" Cheers arose as everyone pretended to retaliate and struck back at the bad guys. "Boss" Chow Kit Lun praised, "As soon as you appear they got scared off, amazing!" Cheng Yi Kin tried to collect a debt from Chow Kit Lun, saying that 10 years ago he promised to write a song for him but he still has not received it yet. Lam Hiu Fung and Chin Kar Lok took the chance to invite Chow Kit Lun to be their concert guest. "From the 7th to the 10th we will perform concerts here, maybe even on the 11th, we hope you can come to the Hong Kong Coliseum to return (the favor) to us!" Chow Kit Lun immediately changed the subject and asked Chin Kar Lok that he was an action director before, since he could fight could he sing? Lam Hiu Fung again asked Chow Kit Lun, "Will you come to sing again?" Chow Kit Lun still avoided the question and only said, "Let's try and see if we have chemistry and how we sing!" They performed FRIENDSHIP AGE, during which Chow Kit Lun got close to fans and a crazed female fan tried to pull off his pants. He immediately retreated. During encore, Angelababy performed NINJA with Chow Kit Lun and made physical contact as they sang. Chow Kit Lun said, "She said that she has been listening to my songs since she was little!" Baby said, "Yes, at the time I was still a student. I started listening since your first record." Chow Kit Lun helplessly said, "It doesn't feel good at all! I finally understand the feeling that the guests I invited have. Last night the Grasshoppers were guests and I also said that I have listened to their songs since I was little. Today I finally experience it." After the show, Baby excitedly said, "I have liked Chow Kit Lun for 13 years, I know all of his songs. Working with my idol for the firs time on the stage felt like a dream com true. At first I was very nervous, but after I got on stag I was very happy and enjoyed this feeling very much." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, SEPTEMBER 22 2013, FILM WORDS THE STOLEN YEARS PERFORMS WELL AT THE MID AUTUMN BOX OFFICE In recent weeks foreign films have been weaker as Hong Kong films thrived. UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN) already made over HK$ 40 million and THE WAY WE DANCE (KONG MO PAI) also made over HK$ 10 million. On top of the Mid Autumn Festival box office is not a new release foreign film but THE STOLEN YEARS in its second week. Hong Kong female director Barbara Wong Chun Chun's new Mandarin film made over 100 million in the Mainland and its momentum is growing in Hong Kong. As a city woman romance, the film is light on its feet, fashionably packaged and plays out of amnesia mystery that is mixed with sorrow and joy. Although the latter part cooks up my least favorite tear jerking terminal illness, it is suitable for many female viewers. Ten years ago Wong Chun Chun officially broke into the film industry with TRUTH OF DARE: 6TH FLOOR REAR FLAT (LOK LAU HAU JOR), three years ago her BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI) was a commercial and critical hit. The two previous films PERFECT WEDDING (PO PO CHIU GAI YUN) and THE ALLURE OF TEARS (KING SING JI LUI) were both less than ideal. THE STOLEN YEARS now is another great harvest. Please take note that lead actress Bai Baihe is a the Mainland's top new female star. In recent years she and humorous star Wen Zhang's comedy LOVE IS NOT BLIND was a surprise hit. Bai Baihe is no beauty, fortunately she is familiar and lively with mischievous expressions. Since then she starred in a Korean director's very exaggerated and superficial A WEDDING INVITION that also made over 100 million in the Mainland. This time Wong Chun Chun not only permitted her to perform her comedy expertise but also tragic scenes. The severe terminal illness perhaps is the most touching for female viewers. I instead feel that her transformation from a little woman to the corporate strong woman has obviously acting variation. Cold and stylish, she also displays the new woman who is more capable at their jobs and promotions but may make her male companion feel self pity. It very easily can lead to romantic and martial problems. Can career and love co-exist for modern women? Of course it can, but indeed they are often in conflict. One of the big reasons for the break up of Fiona Sit Hoi Kei and Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming) in THE BREAK UP CLUB is that she is more capable at her job than he is. STOLEN's Taiwan lead actor Joseph Chang also tells the pain of "rich woman poor man" and performs decently. - SHEK KEI 2. APPLE DAILY, SEPTEMBER 21 2013, SOMETHING TO SAY PETER CHAN: SANDRA NG SAYS I AM VERY HORRIFYING Remembering Chan Ho Sun last year in the same place in Venice sat in the same spot, drank the same brand of carbonated water in an interview with the writer, perhaps such habits are just like his movies. Although the background may be different, the emotions that he hopes to express are still on display. After years in the film industry, he admits that in recent years he has been suspicious of himself. Luckily in the end he found his answer from his work, he still is the most original Chan Ho Sun. He says, "Even (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu says I am very horrifying, after so many years the movies that I made can be so similar to the ones that were made years before." - MAN KWOK CHUN Because of Mainland star Tian Pujun's "sweetheart" article, Chan Ho Sun has become a news story lead character. Earlier he received the Venice Film Festival invitation to not only make a minute and a half short film to salute the film festival's 70th anniversary but also to restore his classic film COMRADES ALMOST A LOVE STORY (TIM MUK MUK) for the "classic" segment. Earlier he gave an interview at the Excelsior Hotel. Yet not under the disturbance from the "sweetheart" article he was in a light mood. He joked, "This year of course is much more relaxed, at least I don't have to be a jury member and watch several movies everyday. I can even play tourist with Papa (filmmaker Chan Tung Man), taking photos at Piazza San Marco and walking around." "I am dead no matter what I say now" As for the restoration of COMRADES' film, Peter admitted that it was rather difficult. "Because the film was already all scratched up, it had to be restored frame by frame. It really wasn't very easy." The story of COMRADES revolved around two new immigrants from Mainland who came to Hong Kong. With the growing conflict between China and Hong Kong in recent years, would Peter make a movie with this subject? He immediately shook his head and said, "No, I am dead no matter what I say now." The production of COMRADES was 17 years ago. Did Peter feel that he had any change on the film road over these 17 years? He said, "When outsiders watch me they would feel I have changed a lot, like my filmmaking style and subject. Actually I also have been suspicious of myself. When I made AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA last year, from the production start to editing, even to post production when I watched the film again I felt very happy. The entire film was what I wanted to make, the feelings that I wanted to express. Chan Ho Sun actually hasn't changed at all, even Ng Kwan Yu said that I was very horrifying, the movie that I made so many years later could be so similar to the one that was made so many years ago." Refused To Lose Himself For Co-production In recent years many Hong Kong directors have been accused of being all about Renminbi, as they made co-productions with subject and other aspects that had to accommodate the Mainland market. Peter had a different opinion and even said that if a director lost his own style in his co-production film, the director was the one who was lazy. He said, "Actually I don't no one would typecast the word 'co-production'. COLD WAR and UNBEATABLE are both co-production films. Why would they achieve the Hong Kong film style and succeed at the Mainland China box office? The focus is that the director has to find a balance between what he wants to say and the box office up there, instead of just filling out the prescription." EXPLAINING JIANG WEN'S PITY THEORY One of this year's film festival jury members, Jiang Wen earlier in an interview pointed out that in the past international film festivals paid attention to Chinese films because they pitied the Chinese people. Chan Ho Sun explained for him, "He is just making a gag. How he said it might have been a little extreme, but he had a point! Actually when film festivals focused on a certain place's films, often they did so in waves. Sometimes it would be Iran, sometimes it might be Eastern Europe, because the more problems a nation had the more interesting the story was. Now Chinese films are all about money, the underground directors who in the past went to film festivals are all above ground. Films that are above ground naturally have to pass inspection, then maybe they would lose interesting stories. Since they don't have any interesting story, why would other people's film festivals approach you?" [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Dim Dui Dim Lit : Point To Point d. UPCOMING MOVIES Korean Movie Night 2013 Series Five Remembering Park Cheol Soo: A Korean Filmmaking Legend When prolific Korean director Park Cheol Soo died earlier this year after being hit by a drunk driver, film fans around the world took solace in the fact that while he was gone, his amazing, truly independent masterpieces would live on forever. As huge fans of his work, the Korean Cultural Service pays tribute to this amazing man by offering up three of his most acclaimed films. Park Cheol Soo led the Korean wave throughout the late 90s, influenced by the time he spent in Manhattan and the indie film scene here. Having popularized Korean cinema worldwide, he also discovered Kim Ki Duk who has changed our perception of Asian film. Taken from us well too soon, Korean Movie Night celebrates the life of Park Cheol Soo starting October 1st...delivering three films guaranteed to move you like never before. As Autumn tugs at the leaves from Manhattan’s trees and the days become short, warm yourself with the memory of Park Cheol Soo and his cinematic masterpieces – brought to you for free, as always, by your friends at The Korean Cultural Service. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 @ 7PM B.E.D. (North American Premiere, 2012, 90 mins.) In the last film he lived to see released, director Park Cheol Soo explores human obsessive desire for sex. Based on a short novel of the same name, B.E.D. is told through the eyes of the three main characters, whose joy, passion, despair and death overflow into one bed. The man B. has an affair with a bored married woman E., who eventually dumps him. In order to get over E., B. marries D., a divorcee with a small daughter, but still keeps the bed in which he made love with E. His obsession with E. never goes away, as he attempts to get her back. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 @ 7PM Green Chair (2003, 98 mins.) Ordered to 100 hours of social service for taking a younger lover, Mun-hui meets up with Hyeon, the object of her desire, and becomes engrossed with him yet again. After five passionate days, Mun-hui leaves Hyeon, telling him to remember her as the “odd woman that he met briefly.” Suffering a deep sense of loss, Hyeon eventually receives a call from his lost love – but soon finds himself sharing her with another person. A charming, expertly crafted morality tale, this Sundance Film Festival selection is a powerfully charged erotic masterpiece. Tuesday, October 1, 2013 @ 7PM 301, 302 (1995, 97 mins.) The powerful, boundary-pushing drama that put director Park Cheol Soo on the map, 301, 302 explores the stories of two neighboring women, one who suffers from binge-eating, and the other from anorexia. First at odds with each other, the two women realize that their struggles and dark pasts are not that different – and that their disorders may ultimately bring them together in a very unexpected way. Breaking free from traditional Korean storytelling, the film achieved massive success and became one of the first Korean movies released in North American cinemas. ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
