In the film Ah Jat and Chow Hoi Kwong were very lucky, in one scene many nude women surround them. However actually Ah Jat had no real contact with any woman. Director Mak Wing Lun on the other hand was the most excited." * (2013/07/24) Fala Chen's TVB contract ended and made the jump to the silver screen with the film TALES FROM THE DARK 2 (KEI WAN YEH). She became a category III star! In the film she and Gordon Lam Ka Tung had a daring love scene. The film has been given a category III film rating. Fala's fellow "category III star" Lam ka Tung joked that he did not mind the film rating because it was not selling sex. The rating came from the horror story line; in the film he had a nude scene. He said, "I am an actor so I wasn't embarrassed. Fala was very professional and performed very naturally." * (2013/07/24) Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) lately has been busy with his new film OVERHEARD 3 (TING FUNG WON FUNG 3). Earlier around 3PM, he, Sean Lau Ching Wan, Alex Fong Chung Shun, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Dominic Lam Ka Wa and others shot on location in a Yuen Long village house. As Ng Yin Cho had his make up fixed, he kept smiling at the phone. Perhaps he was on video conference with his wife Lisa S. and their daughter Raven. During their break, the guys got together to smoke and chat. Ng Yin Cho also talked with long time father Fong Chung Shun about parenthood. Due to the heat, Lam Ka Tung and Lam Ka Wa removed their costumes to cool down. * (2013/07/24) The Chow Yun Fat and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung starred, Wong Jing directed new film FROM VEGAS TO MACAU (DOH SING FUNG WON, tentative title) earlier due to inspection issues had to changes its production start date again and again. It was quite a victory. Although blood cancer took away Lau Kar Leung, his martial art ethics and kung fu film contributions will linger on; have a safe journey Master Lau! Lau Kar Leung passed away from illness on June 25 at the age of 76. Lau Kar Leung's funeral services began yesterday at the Universal Funeral Parlor with a Buddhist ceremony and the funeral takes place today. Lau Kar Leung's life was honored and death grieved. Widow Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) as the master's wife at the martial art hall decorated venue posed for a group photo with Lau Kar Leung's disciples and their disciples to display the funeral services' solemn elegance. Yung Jing Jing spent several million to purchase niches in Po Fook Hill for Lau Kar Leung's ashes and the funeral hall decoration that resembled a luxurious martial art hall in movies. 3 filial lions and 9 plain lions from the 9 major martial art styles bidding Lau Kar Leung farewell was the grandest in half a century and the highest salute from the martial art world to Lau Kar Leung. Lau Kar Leung's funeral takes place today at noon with a master monk hosted ceremony, then the closing of the coffin. The remains will be transported to the Tung Wah Coffin Home then on a lucky day to be cremated in Po Lin Monastery. Master Lau's coffin was environmentally friendly, which was a decision that he discussed with his wife Yung Jing Jing. Yung Jing Jing and his family yesterday morning arrived at the services. The hall was decorated mainly in white and filled with fresh flowers. The photo was Master Lau's kung fu look from DRUNKEN MONKEY (JUI MA LAU). The Hall's banner said "Grand Master of A Generation", and the side elegiac couplets were Hung Kuen formulas. In the center were floral arrangements from Lau Kar Leung's widow and his 7 children. Yung Jing Jing's floral arrangement was white rose formed heart with a note that read "lover comrade Lau Kar Leung, from wife Lau Yung Jing Jing". Inside and outside the hall were large television screens that played the Lau Kar Leung special, which included film stills, life photos and interviews. The score of the special was Master Lau's three favorite songs ALWAYS IN MY HEART, THE MOON REPRESENTS MY HEART and UNCHAINED MELODY. Yung Jing Jing wore a special design mourning dress, a wide body blacked Chinese dress with a white scarf with the word Lau. She looked extremely frail and her daughters Man Yi and Hung Yi were still very heart broken. Yesterday a public memorial was held as ordinary folks came to pay their respect to Master Lau. An abbot also began the scripture recital. At 9AM the Lau family's 3 filial lions welcomed the nine plain lions that represented the major styles, including Hung Kuen, Bak Mei, White Crane, Damo Butterfly, Luoshan Boxing Fung Fo Tong and others. 12 lions in total arrived at the hall to salute Lau Kar Leung. Yung Jing Jing around 4PM in the company of Nat Chan Pak Cheung and Lau Kar Leung's disciple Sin Kwok Lam spoke with the press. She said that the funeral arrangements have been very satisfactory. The hall was decorated like a martial art hall in the movies. She thanked everyone for their help. Yung Jing Jing said that Master Lau's children as well as his siblings and relatives were all. However, Lau Kar Leung's former wife was not. Did Master have any final wish? Yung Jing Jing said that Master Lau wanted to more charity work. Thus the Lau Kar Leung charitable fund plan will be announced later. She personally wrote the eulogy in the funeral program. How did she feel? Yung Jing Jing said that she was very calm and hoped to maintain composure as much as possible. Since human is blood and flesh, she still had to remain composed despite her sorrow and pain. When Master Lau's memorial special was played in the venue she could not help but break down. Her daughters also cried until their tears ran dry before they stopped. Yung Jing Jing said that in the days after Master Lau's passing, she and her daughters were very sadden. The reminders at home made them collapse emotionally. Luckily the nunnery took them in for 3 days, as the power of religion calmed their emotions; yet occasionally they would still get upset. Speaking of Andy Lau Tak Wa's "Grand Master Of a Generation" calligraphy for the program, she said that Ah Lek suggested asking Wa Jai for help. She knew that Master Lau had quite a connection with Wa Jai. Back then when he invited Wa Jai to make DRUNKEN MASTER 2, Wa Jai agreed without discussing money at all. She revealed that the coffin used was environmentally friendly, the grave goods were simple pajamas and underwear. Only after the cremation would Master's favorite items be included in his grave goods. Ah Lek was the funeral committee chair, which Yung Jing Jing had to explain clearly to prevent jealousy from others. She, Ah Lek and Master Lau had a little story. Once Master Lau lost his wallet, identifications and cash. Suddenly Ah Lek called Master Lau and asked if he lost his wallet. Actually in the wallet was Ah Lek's number, the person who found it contacted Ah Lek. At the time Master Lau said the wallet had 10,000 in cash, but actually it only had 4,000. When Ah Lek returned the wallet, 10,000 in cash was inside. Master knew that Ah Lek put the money in. She said that normally she talked with Master about life and death. He said that Ah Lek was trustworthy and he could help with the funeral. Master in the final days did not want to see people, but he and Ah Lek met several times. * (2013/07/24) The Hung Kuen Grand Master of a generation Lau Kar Leung passed away. He loved martial arts, loved movies, and loved his family. His wife Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing) continued his spirit as she attentively turned the funeral hall into a martial art hall for family and friends to recall their past with Master. Yung Jing Jing as the Master's wife led Lau Kar Leung's disciples in a kung fu pose in front of the altar as a final salute to Master. Lau Kar Leung today bid farewell to the "martial art ring", leaving the hot blooded, undying spirit of martial arts and a group of martial art successors he cultivated. As the Master's wife, Yung Jing Jing wore a special ordered long black robe with a white scarf with the word Lau stitched on it and sat straight in front of the "Grand Master of A Generation" banner. She had no makeup and could not hide her frail look. Despite showing others her reluctance over her beloved husband's passing, she still displayed a presence. Over 30 Lau Kar Leung disciples posed in kung fu stance in front of Master's altar and swore to continue the Grand Master of a Generation's kung fu spirit. * (2013/07/24) Karl Maka is not only a pallbearer today but yesterday he also arrived early to "bring light" to the 3 filial lions. Maka recalled "grace" and "causality" with Master Lau. He said, "Years ago when I first arrived from the U.S., Master Lau was my benefactor. He was honorable, had a big brother presence. He never treated me like an extra and stuffed money to me for meals. He would also take me drinking. Later at Cinema City I also invited Master Lau to work together." Maka felt that he and Master Lau knew each other in a previous life. Lau Kar Leung's pallbearers included Financial Secretary Tsang Chun Wa, Karl Maka, Yasuaki Kurata, John Chiang Dai Wei, Chi Kuan-chun, Tong Kai, Nat Chan Pak Cheung and Shek Chi Bun (Shek Kin's son). * (2013/07/24) Both sides of the street where the Universal Funeral Parlor were decorated with black and white banners with the word "Lau" as well as black banners with the words "Grand Master of A Generation" and "Honored and Respected". Almost 100 media members waited outside the funeral parlor to cover the vent and the police was on hand to maintain order. Lau Kar Leung's disciples of different nationalities and skin colors stood guard outside the hall to provide security, fully displaying Lau Kar Leung's Grand Master of A Generation presence. * (2013/07/24) Lau Kar Leung was in show business for years and made many friends. From the Cantonese era to his final film SEVEN SWORDS (CHUT GIM), his over 50 years performance career had no regret. His loyalty won him many friendships. Yesterday chief disciple Adam Cheng Siu Chau and funeral committee chair Nat Chan Pak Cheung arrived early for the services. Paying their respect was not only disciples and those of the martial art worlds but also Law Kar Ying and Liza Wang Ming Chuen, Petrina Fung Bo Bo and her brother, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Sharon Kwok Sau Wan, Wu Ma, Pai Piao, Karl Maka, Shek Tin, Nancy Sit Ka Yin and others. Fung Bo Bo who has worked with Lau Kar Leung many times could not hide her sorrow. When she left she was teary eyed. Ah Jeh although had to run around due to her home burglary, she still came with Law Kar Ying to salute Lau Kar Leung for a final time. Chan Pak Chung was the Lau Kar Leung funeral committee chair. He said that back then Master Lau made Wong Hung Sau a star, both he and Sau Goo respected Master Lau very much. "Master Lau was very fortunate, Mrs. Lau (Yung Jing Jing) has ben great with every aspect of the funeral arrangements. I only did a little. Was I the person who Master Lau named to see before he passed away? Master Lau didn't have anything special he wanted to say. His 'passing' was very short, but very comfortable and peaceful." What did he learn from Master Lau? Ah Lek said, "I couldn't learn anything! If I did I would be making kung fu films!" Ah Lek said that Master Lau did not discriminate when he made friends, he was open minded and was able to get along with people of any age; he valued martial art honor, thus his disciples' respect came from within." Cheng Siu Chau was Lau Kar Leung's first Hong Kong disciple. He said, "Master treated his disciples very well. He wouldn't get mad and was open to discussions, thus his disciples respected him from their hearts." When Chau Guoon left the funeral parlor he went to see Master, who looked very peaceful. He wished him a safe journey and an even better life. Today Lau Kar Lung's disciples perform a farewell lion dance for the funeral. Chau Guoon admitted that he did not know how to lion dance, so he would wave the banner to send Master on his final journey. Wang Ming Chuen and Law Kar Ying were busy with their home burglary but still took time to pay their respect. Brother Kar Ying said that he and Lau Kar Leung were family friends. After the viewing he thought Master Lau went very peacefully. Brother Kar Ying said, "Last month I just had tea with Master Lau. He even said that he was exercising to fight cancer, which was very encouraging to me and Ah Jeh." Brother Kar Ying last night felt sorrow and pain when he said the plain lions kneeling into the hall, the highest show of respect from the martial art world to the Grand Master of a generation. They said that they would remember Master Lau's perseverance and contribution to the film industry, martial arts and even life. * (2013/07/24) Lau Kar Leung was respected in life, so yesterday inside and outside the hall were floral arrangements. Over 100 year old Uncle Six, Sir Run Run Shaw (Siu Yat Fu), without any hesitation sent a floral arrangement along with his wife Mona Fong Yat Wa and wrote "Master Kar Leung, Forever Missed". Uncle Six had high regards for Lau Kar Leung and made him a director. His first film was already a big hit. Among the arrangements Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Chen Kuan-Tai, Eddy Ko Hung and others' joint arrangement caught the most attention. It had a sketching of Lau Kar Leung in a kung fu stance that reportedly came from Wong Chau Sun's hand. However due to his play he was unable to pay his respect personally. Pak Suet Sin also sent one in her name Chan Suk Leung. Others who sent floral arrangements included Financial Secretary Tsang Chun Wa, Japanese actor Yasuaki Kurata, Henry Cheng Kar-shun, Jackie Chan, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Leon Lai Ming, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and May Law Mei Mei, Jenny Tseng (Yn Nei), Mr. and Mrs. Kent Cheng Juk Si, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Yeung Sau Sing and Gillian Chung Yun Tung. * (2013/07/24) Lau Kar Leung's funeral program was titld GRAND MASTER OF A GENERATION LAU KAR LEUNG, with calligraphy from Andy Lau Tak Wa. The cover photo was Master Lau's DRUNKEN MONKY film still, and the back cover was a cartoon image of Master Q with the words "Everyone Please" to bid family and friends farewell. Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) and her daughters Lau Man Yi and Lau Hung Yi personally wrote eulogies to bid farewell to their beloved husband and father. Yung Jing Jing in her eulogy wrote that Lau Kar Leung at first was diagnosed with stage four lymphoma and only 5 years of life left. In the end he actively fought the cancer for 20 years, losing his life to blood cancer in the end. The battle was considered a victory. Yung Jing Jing's ageless romance with Lau Kar Leung rocked show business. She described Lau Kar Leung as the proof of their love without regret. "Without Lau Kar Leung, today's Yung Jing Jing absolutely would not be here. He is my inspiration, my conscience, my beloved, and the proof of love 'without regret, to the end' that I has been after my entire life." She praised Lau Kar Leung as a good father, accepted her spoiled nature and supported her wish fulfillment. Yung Jing Jing revealed that Lau Kar Leung loved to sing "You were always on my mind" to her, now only she is left to sing solo for her husband. Lau Ka Leung's daughters Lau Man Yi and Lau Hung Yi wrote their eulogies in English. Elder daughter Man Yi said that without her father's love and encouragement, today's her would not exist; she also praised her father for still practicing kung fu at home despite being over 70. Man Yi finally summed up in Chinese, "Ah Pa, Anpanman, I will always love you." Younger daughter Hung Yi admitted, "I have never seen a men as good as Ah Pa, I believe that I never will." Man Yi praised Lau Kar Leung as the best father in the world and lamented that his father died too soon. They only had 23 years together. She hoped to be his daughter in the next life as well. Lau Kar Leung was a famous Hong Kong action director and kung fu film director. Father Lau Chum was a disciple of Wong Fei Hung's disciple Lam Sai Wing. Everyone keeps talking about my salary now, how come no one ever talks about at my lowest when I only had HK$100 in my savings account? Jacky Cheung Hok Yau said that he was interested and wanted to win Best Actor. Would he help Hok Yau? Sing Sing said, "I have a character that is very suitable for Hok Yau. Winning Best Actor needs coordination from a lot of areas. Hok Yau is a good singer and a good actor. The film will not start production until next year at the soonest, but I won't invest. The risk is too great. I am still a rookie, I don't have the confidence." Sing Sing revealed that his manager Siu Mei is also writing a script for him to star in. As a Hong Kong action actor I of course couldn't agree more." In action scenes with Yeung Choi Nei, did he have to accommodate? Yen Chi Tan said, "Whether she has any martial art experience or not, as long as she is an actress I would accommodate. This is the consideration and demeanor that a man should have; earlier when I worked with Wai Ying Hung on WUXIA I didn't treat her like a man either." Yeung Choi Nei pointed out that she played a police officer in the film and only needed to use a gun. She did not need ot fight. She said, "Before hand I went to classes to learn about guns, I hope they are helpful to the shoot. (Did you ask Yen Chi Tan to teach you kung fu?) Working together on the shoot is already a lot of fun. Watching him in fight scenes on the set, I was already wowed. I focused on gun practices, to the point that I wouldn't blink when I fire. (Would you have any kiss scene with Yen Chi Tan?) Our relationship isn't this type at all, with (Alex) Fong Chung Shum I have a little romance." When Fong Chung Shun and Yeung Choi Nei posed for photos, he had a smug look and said that this time finally he was able to hug his childhood goddess. He joked, "I am 30 something too, the shoot has quite a first love feel. Now all my self confidence is back. I remember when I first got into the business, I worked on a Yeung Choi Nei music video and I was the music video lead actor; now she is just as great. (Has you asked for kiss scene?) Adding a bed scene would be the best, but I am not the screen writing. It's very hard to add!" * (2013/07/22) The Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed film DELETE (DELETE OI YUN) yesterday had a costume fitting. Leads Wong Cho Nam and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi after INBOUND TROUBLES (LO BIU NEI HO YEH!) continued their onscreen romance. Will they have a kiss scene? Cho Nam said that last time he wrote the INBOUND script himself, he did not feel right about writing such scenes. With the film collaboration he had a reason to make a kiss scene, because he had to pay to watch it. Wong Cho Nam said that he has looked forward to working with Michael Hui Koon Man's collaboration. When he was little he watched THE PRIVATE EYES (BOON GUN BAK LEUNG) over 100 times. Hui Koon Man has not made a movie in a long time and joked that he no longer knew how to act. He saw Cho Nam's potential due to his drama troupe background and its authentic training. He was a jack of all trade, only missing a big hit. This time he would play a character that he has never played before, the same character as Michael Wong Man Tak's. He did not recognize all the other new actors. He has been planning a film script for years. He said that it had many conditions to coordinate as he hoped to write a story that no one has ever written before. * (2013/07/21) Earlier Donnie Yen Chi Tan was rumored to be upset that Raymond Wong Pak Ming dumped Wilson Yip Wai Shun in order to make his son Edmond Wong Chi Wun the director of IP MAN 3. The matter after clarification has already come to an end. Yesterday, Wong Chi Wun appeared at the Book Fair. He revealed that he still has not prepared to direct a big film and this year he will wed. Recently Wong Pak Ming was rumored to be interested in making a new film with either Louis Koo Tin Lok or Yen Chi Tan. Wong Chi Wun admitted that a script was being written. "Chi Tan and I are fine. If he will star, the movie will be packaged with action." * (2013/07/21) Hung Kuen Grand Master of a generation Lau Kar Leung's funeral services will begin on July 23rd at the Universal Funeral Parlor with the funeral taking place the next day. Because Lau Kar Leung asked that his funeral to be "respectable", widow Mary Jean Reimer (Yung Jing Jing) has been busy with his affairs for days. She wanted the funeral to be dignified yet grand, money was no longer an object as over 100 people were hired. Adam Cheng Siu Chau was Lau Kar Leung's eldest disciple. On the day of the disciple, he would wave the banner to lead the disciples to send their Master to the hearse. Yung Jing Jing since her husband's passing has temporarily stopped working until Master Lau's "Final Seven" would be taken care of. He said that Master Lau's funeral services will follow traditions exactly, without any omission to avoid any regret. Yung Jing Jing yesterday held a "Fourth Seven" prayer service for Master Lau at the Ling Wan Temple. Over 160 people participated. Aside from the Ling Wan Temple's monks, seven Lamas were also on hand. The scale was even grander than the 3 ceremonies earlier. Yung Jing Jing and daughters Man Yi, Hung Yi as well as Master Lau's foreign disciple Mark knelt for 1.5 hours during the ceremony. When the ceremony ended, Yung Jing Jing needed help from her daughters to be able to stand again. Another disciple Sin Kwok Lam yesterday morning also appeared at the Ling Wan Temple. He had to rush to the rehearsal of the piety lion dance for the day of the funeral, then he left early. Wong Ha Wai also attended the service. Yung Jing Jing said that this service was particular touching. She had to thank director Teddy Chan tak Sum for his help. "The more people participate in the service, the better it is for Master Lau. I worried that I haven't had enough people. He asked his Buddhism disciple friends for help and hired several Lamas to participate. The Ling Wan Temple monks said that Buddhism originated from the same source and everyone was praying for Master Lau, thus they welcomed the Lamas to participate." Yung Jing Jing said that Master Lau also received Lamas' support in Yonghegong Lama Temple in Beijing. This was fated. The funeral hall decoration will begin on Monday and it will be decorated into a martial art hall. Earlier the announced pallbearer included Treasury secretary Tsang Chun Wa, who was a Hung Kuen colleague of Master Lau. The funeral will provide public visitation, Yung Jing Jing earlier has already discussed road blocks with the Hung Hom police district. Crowd control will be handled. On both days of the services piety lion dances will be performed. On the first day masters of the nine major styles will be responsible, and on the funeral day Sin Kwok Lam has arranged for his disciples' disciples to perform. Because the performance involved kneeling to bid farewell, they have been all bruised and scarred from the rehearsals. Cheng Siu Chau will be responsible for waving the banner to send Master Lau Kar Leung to the hearse. Yung Jing Jing clarified Master Lau's birth date as it was incorrectly listed as September 3 1936 on his identification card. 1937 was the correct year. Master Lau was born in the Year of the Ox on the third of the Lunar September. "A lot of information about Master Lau in the public is incorrect. He and his former wife had one son and four daughters, but many incorrect versions are online." In the obituary, Master Lau's children from his former marriage and his two daughters with Yung Jing Jing, all seven children were listed in detail. * (2013/07/21) Leo Ku Kui Kei yesterday received Radio Hong Kong's invitation to attend a Book Fair to share his creative experience. Gei Jai this year will be busy with record release and film production. In September he will play a cop in his new film. He joked, "I am not Jackie Chan, I am the resourceful type. I will have gun and action scenes, but more scenes with men and no romance." * (2013/07/21) Au Kam Tong yesterday attended a forum to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bruce Lee's passing. He was not surprised to hear that the Leisure and Cultural Services Department ditched Bruce Lee's brother Robert Lee Chun Fai. "The Hong Kong government has always operated like this, it doesn't even know that the Tram to the Peak is expired. This is the absurd society that we live in." As for the Bruce Lee: Kung Fu, Art and Life exhibit's 5 year run at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Au Kam Tong asked everyone to keep an open mind about the "temporary housing". "To the greater good, having a permanent Bruce Lee memorial museum will be the heritage of the entire city; even without it, Bruce Lee will still always remain in our hearts. This year is the 40th anniversary of Bruce Lee('s passing), I feel normal without any sense of shock and lost. I will keep looking for information about Bruce Lee. For example when I went to vacation in Seattle, I ran into the owner of a home that Bruce Lee once lived in. (The owner) accepted my exclusive interview." * (2013/07/20) The kung fu director of a generation Lau Kar Leung passed away last month. His funeral will take place on the 23rd at the Universal Funeral Parlor. Reportedly, that day disciples of Lau Kar Leung's classmates will perform a filial lion dance and the nine major schools including Hung Kuen, Choy Li Fut, and White Crane will send lion dancers as well to bid farewell to Lau Kar Leung! The next day, Lau Kar Leung's disciple Sin Kwok Lam will dance the white lion with over 100 disciples to bid farewell to Master with a third step kowtow nine step kneeling ceremony around the Universal Funeral Parlor. Applications have already been sent to the government. * (2013/07/20) Mainland publication criticized Anthony Wong Chau Sun's comment online. "When you write traditional Chinese characters in China, over half the people don't understand them. Hua Xia Civilization in Mainland is already dead." Chau Sun yesterday replied, "Any further talk is promoting me. I am not against simplified characters, I am against eradicating traditional characters! A normal discussion isn't any so-called China Hong Kong conflict. It's the group of extremists who yelled, 'you are English dog' that has conflict with the entire society." * (2013/07/20) A Mainland site recently conducted a survey of the ten most rotten Chinese film of the first half of the year. They included Julian Cheung Chi Lam's BORN TO LOVE YOU, Michelle Chen's BADGES OF FURY and Ko Chen-Tung's TINY TIME. Surprisingly THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) with over 200 million yuan RMB Mainland box office came in fifth. The Andy Lau Tak Wa and Lin Chiling starred SWITCH has been controversial since its release and received the most votes as the favorite. Many online claimed that the film made no sense, action fight scenes turned into absurdity. It absolutely was insulting viewers who bought tickets for it. Lin Chiling with almost 2,000 votes won "Rotten Film Queen". "Rotten Film King" was Dior Cheng Yi Kin. Some online joked that Ekin like Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Donnie Yen Chi Tan had "facial paralysis" when he acted. He had no expression. His SAVING GENERAL YANG performance received over 4,000 votes, almost half of the total votes. * (2013/07/20) The Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) directed and starred film THE ROOFTOP two nights ago held its premiere in Kowloon Tong. Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Alex Fong Lik Sun, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Paco Wong, Emperor boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing, Sammy Sum Chun Hin, Oscar Leung Lit Wai, Lu Chen as well as almost 200 fans showed their support. Chow Kit Lun said that he has not held an autograph session in Hong Kong for years, this night felt like one to him. He thanked everyone for not forgetting him and hoped that fans would support the film. He looked forward to the film's Hong Kong box office to be able to pass his previous direction SECRET (BUT NUNG SHUET DIK BEI MUK). Speaking of the film's Taiwan release with less than ideal box office, Chow Kit Lun said, "I too thought it was curious. I was confident but had no certainty. Taiwan box office needs luck. Taiwan has less theaters and most show Hollywood films, but as long as I can live with myself it's OK. The word of mouth is more important than the box office. I will think about awards later." Chow Kit Lun said that he will continue to work hard on the director road, as he still had many subjects that he wanted to make like aliens and UFOs. He said, "I wanted to make SECRET Hollywood version, would I ask Leonardo (DiCaprio) to play it? Let me think about it!" He joked that since he has not found an investor it would depend on this films' box office. If the box office would be decent, he would have more money for next time. * (2013/07/20) Fashion designer Eddie Lau Pui Kei released his new book and yesterday held a forum at the Book Fair. He invited Denise Ho Wan Si and famous model Liu Juanjuan to be his guests. Lau Pui Kei were close friends with late artists Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing and Anita Mui Yim Fong. Yesterday he talked about seeing Gor Gor for the last time at the funeral home for the first time. "Gor Gor has always been recognized as the hunk of the generation. I have known him since we were little, I never thought that he was handsome. When I went to the funeral home and saw Gor Gor sleeping there, at that moment I finally realized that Cheung Kwok Wing truly was so beautiful that he was flawless!" Lau Pui Kei said that Gor Gor's face was undamaged. "He was sharply dressed and looked very peaceful, you could feel at that moment he was happy. Although he chose that way, he didn't harm the beauty that Heaven gave him." When he was speaking of Ah Mui and when the vent played Ah Mui's song YEARS FLOW LIKE WATER, Lau Pui Kei and Ho Wan Si shed tears sentimentally. Lau Pui Kei said, "I saw Ho Wan Si presenting incense to Ah Mui at the funeral home. When I saw her eyes I felt that she truly loved Ah Mui very much. Thus when she asked me to make costumes for her 2006 concert, I used the same fabric that I used for Ah Mui's costume to create the continuation of love version." Ho Wan Si heard and could not help but cry. Ho Wan Si praised Lau Pui Kei for speaking directly. "When he tells a story, you seem to have returned to the brilliance of the 80s." Ho Wan Si has already invited Lau Pui Kei to design costumes for her October concert and had to save the surprises for everyone. Lau Pui Kei said, "I know she will perform a concert, but I still haven't found the fabric yet!" * (2013/07/19) After years in the business, Ava Yu Kiu will accept an ultimate sexy image in LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 3) and become one of the lead actresses. Although Yu Kiu insisted against nudity, she will play a wild woman in the film. Yu Kiu said that the reason she took the film was to challenge herself, the salary was secondary! Did she ask her "boyfriend" Adason Lo (Law Lik Wai) before making the film? She said, "I don't need to!" Creative singer Yu Kiu recently has been working hard in the film industry. First she played an ugly girl in the film HONG KONG UNDERCOVER COP (MANG LUNG DUT GWING), recently she decided to go further with a super sexy image to make the film LAN KWAI FONG 3. Playing a party animal in her new film, she said that her character was very wild. "My character can be said as the party animal of party animals, she would have relationships with men of various nationalities. As for how many, I don't know yet. Last time at the press conference, Bob came over and told me that we had an intimate scene. Only then did I find out he was one of them, everything is waiting for director (Wilson) Chin Kwok Wai's arrangement. (Will you have any bottom line in bed scenes?) No bottom line, as long as it is visually pretty the passionate scenes can be made in any way. I only ask for no nudity! (Will you challenge Liu Yuqi's earlier outdoor sex scene?) As long as it looks pretty it's OK! Her scenes were very pretty." This time in LAN KWAI FONG 3, DaDa Chan Jing returns with many shapely pseudo models. Would Yu Kiu feel she was at a disadvantage? She said, "There is always someone better, I am no competition in terms of busts. Instead I hope to attract everyone with the character." With many daring bed scenes in her new film, did Yu Kiu ask her "boyfriend" Adason Lo (Law Lik Wai) for permission? she said, "I don't need to, LAN KWAI FONG 3 is a serious movie, just like HONG KONG UNDERCOVER COP." * (2013/07/19) Simon Yam Tat Wa, Wai Ying Hung, Janice Man Wing Shan, Shine and Lam Suet earlier worked on the new film LOST ON A RED MINIBUS TO TAI PO (NA YEH LING SUN, NGOR JOR SEUNG LIU WONG GOK HOI WONG DAI BO DIK HUNG WAN) wrap scene. Because the story required it, everyone had to wear protective gear in a broken minibus without any air conditioning in the heat like a collective "sauna bath"! As everyone was sweating, after every shot they immediately removed their masks to breathe! Yam Tat Wa was used to suffering though and said that night was the "worst of the pain". He said, "I have worked on similar scenes in 34 or 35 degree (Celsius) temperature before, I truly worked until I puked. When I got home I had to take several showers to lower my temperature. Because in this film I play a debt collector, it's pretty funny. Viewers should like this script so none of the suffering matters!" In addition, Yam Tat Wa said that after he finished all the work on hand he would go on vacation with his wife Qi Qi and their daughter. He said, "We probably will go to England, Vienna, we have property in Vienna, once in awhile we would go and on the way check out some unique forests in England. I can scout locations for the next movie that I will direct." * (2013/07/19) New film industry star Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling in the film TALES FROM THE DARK (MAI LEI YEH) worked with Best Actor Tony Leung Ka Fai and Kelly Chen Wai Lam. Cherry played a ghost who committed suicide for love, a role with a lot of potential. Speaking of the white face ghost make up, she said that it was not difficult for her at all. "Normally I would mess around, even if it's more grotesque I wouldn't mind. The character experienced a teacher student relationship and suicide and had a lot of emotions, instead the emotional scenes were more difficult." Has she run into anything supernatural in real life? Cherry revealed that when she was little she spoke to the air. Looking back her hair was standing at its end. "Mommy told me that one day I was playing with building blocks, suddenly I spoke to the air and ask people to play with me. Grandpa just happened to have a dream, in which she saw many children in ragged clothing outside our home. One of them always looked into our home. Ma thought that those two incidents were related! It was pretty scary!" * (2013/07/19) Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu and Michelle Wai Si Nga in the film HARDCORE COMEDY (CHUNG HAU MEI) had many scenes together. Playing a "drug addict" in the film, Kwan Chor Yiu always saw Wai Si Nga as a goddess. In the film Kwan Chor Yiu would fantasize about Si Nga and sniff tissues that Si Nga has used, which was rather hardcore. Kwan Chor Yiu said, "Because the scene was one straight take, it really was a little awkward." However, Kwan Chor Yiu also had a scene in which he and Terence Siufay picked out women at a prostitute's home. Facing almost completely naked actresses, Kwan Chor Yiu said that at first it was somewhat embarrassing. Luckily at the moment when he took his mark he was able to get into character and overcome the embarrassment. As for becoming a sex fantasy, Si Nga admitted that because she had to be present during the shoot she and Kwan Chor Yiu could not hold back their laughter. Si Nga said, "No one has done this type of scene before, finally we had to redirect our line of sight to be able to make it." * (2013/07/19) Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin in the film THE MIDAS TOUCH (CHIU CUP GAING LEI YUN) played a gold label manager Sister Suen who is madly in love with her artist Gao Yunxiang. She uses every trick in the book to scare away women around him. In one scene Ah Sa observes Gao Yunxiang through an one way reflective glass and even pretended to kiss and touch him. Ah Sa gave a high rating to Gao Yunxiang's body. "His body is very fit, I was like a Mr. Fitness judge who is evaluating a contestant." * (2013/07/19) YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) invades the Hong Kong Coliseum stage as "Chan Ho Nam" Dior Cheng Yi Kin led "Chicken" Jordan Chan Siu Chun, "Tai Tin Yee" Michael Tse Tin Wa, "Big Head" Chin Kar Lok and "Pou Pee" Jerry Lam Hiu Fung to three concerts between November 7 and 9. They became good friends when they made the YOUNG AND DANGEROUS film series. 20 years later, all five have become family men; early this year Ekin got married, Chin Kar Lok and Chan Siu Chun became fathers in March and July respectively. They in November will fulfilled their wish of a concert reunion, as they will go against tradition and show off their bellies instead of muscles. They are already excited before the performance as they gathered for the concert promotional poster. They put on tank tops for solo photos and put on leather jackets for the shoot. They also directed each other's poses. Lam Hiu Fung, Siu Chun and Kar Lok shared parenthood tips, while Ekin and Tin Wa discussed diving. They posed for photos as they tried to recall the YOUNG AND DANGEROUS theme song and could not stop singing. The concert idea came from a Chan Siu Chun joke. At first they wanted to create a show for a reunion, but Siu Chun said that he would not agree unless it was a Hong Kong Coliseum performance. Finally they landed in the Hong Kong Coliseum. The guest segment of the concert gave them the most headache, as they thought the three hour schedule would not be enough. Ekin said, "We wanted to bring back some of the friends who have been in this film series for a reunion. The guest list hasn't been confirmed yet. Earlier at an event I already invited my onscreen girlfriend Shu Qi; the other lover (Gigi) Lai Chi has already retired from performance, but she could still attend the show and have fun with us. I hope to invite (Jason) Chu Wing Tong, (Karen) Mok Man Wai, (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu, (Francis) Ng Chun Yu, (Alex) Man Chi Leung and (Danny) Lee Sau Yin." Lately male singers would often show off their muscles at their concerts. Kar Lok joked, "Thin and six pack abdominal muscles have been popular for 20 years already, we will go against tradition and show off our bellies." They pretended to lift up their bellies. Siu Chun lately has been keeping his wife company on his maternity leave and grew a little belly. He immediately supported the idea. Ekin joked that Siu Chun after becoming a father has become "Chan Little Kiss" because whenever he was on the phone with his wife Siu Chun had to "kiss" the phone. Kar Lok challenged Ekin to show his belly. Ekin revealed that Kar Lok did not want to lose weight, so he wanted everyone to gain weight. * (2013/07/18) Taiwan Heavenly King Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) was not only busy with his concert tour recently but also with his new film THE ROOFTOP's promotion. The film was released earlier in Taiwan but only made NT$3.6 million in Taipei in its first week. Its total Taiwan box office was less than NT$10 million. Online criticism of THE ROOFTOP even pointed out that this film was suspected of plagiarizing the 2007 Indian film OM SHANTI OM. THE ROOFTOP performed less than ideally even in the Mainland. After 6 days in release it only made 76.5 million RMB. This time Chairman Chou followed his 2007 directing debut SECRET (BUT NUNG SHUET DIK BEI MUK)'s Taiwan national box office champion momentum to direct THE ROOFTOP, but so far this film was unable to continue it. The film received criticism from viewers and online. Some posted, "Isn't it going to THE ROOFTOP? It almost fell off?" "The female lead is a cold puppet who escaped from the mental hospital, the male lead works hard to play the male lead into bit player double." "All those who know how to act and don't know how to act are piled up and taken out together." In addition, some viewers cited evidence that Chairman Chou's film was very similar to the 2007 Indian film OM SHANTI OM. For example the male leads both had to show off their abdominal muscles. Both male leads lovingly stared at the female lead's large scale advertisement. THE ROOFTOP will open in Hong Kong in August. Today Chairman Chou will come to Hong Kong for the premiere in hopes of saving the box office with promotion. * (2013/07/18) Yesterday Wong Kar Wai and his wife attended the Book Fair. He attended the forum FINDING THE GRANDMASTERS with Taiwan writer Chang Dachun and attracted 500 fans. Some fans even ran to the stage before the forum to take photos. Wong Kar Wai explained the meaning of "kung fu". He said, "People say that doing things require an effort (kung fu), which means that doing things require time." * (2013/07/18) Dior Cheng Yi Kin has always had the hope of bringing the friendship of YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) back to the stage, but because everyone have been busy it remained unfulfilled. Now finally Cheng Yi Kin, Jordan Chan Siu Chun, Chin Kar Lok, Michael Tse Tin Wa and Jerry Lamb Hiu Fung were able to make room in their schedules in conjunction with the Hong Kong Coliseum. Thus they were able to get together for three concerts starting November 7. Yesterday the concert poster was unveiled. * (2013/07/18) Shawn Yue Man Lok, Chapman To Man Jat, producer Pang Ho Cheung, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Matthew Chow Hoi Kwong, DaDa Chan Jing, Susan Shaw Yam Yam and Liu Anqi who was linked to Yue Man Lok in rumors two nights ago attended the film SDU SEX DUTIES UNIT (FEI FU CHOOK JING) premiere. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Zhou Xun and Gigi Leung Wing Kei showed their support. Ah Jat and Pang Ho Cheung sang a duet of dirty jokes. When Ah Lok was asked whether working with many pretty girls was awkward, Ah Lok replied, "No awkwardness, I disappear as soon as the shoot was done!" Ah Jat immediately said, "He passed by in flash, now everyone knows his speed. He truly is honest and real." Tsang Kwok Cheung claimed to be the mightiest as the only person who was successful on the expedition. Ah Jat again joked, "Your timing is mighty, in a state of excitement throughout the entire film." Pang Ho Cheung led the actors in an ice breaking ceremony to symbolize the film breaking VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s box office record of HK$32,086,173. Pang Ho Cheung even promised, "If the box office reaches 10 million then they will be like the poster in SDU gear and boxers, but without me. It has to pass 20 million before I will, 30 million we will wear the top and lose the bottom." As for 40 million, Ah Jat added, "We'll do something for the people." Pang Ho Cheung said, "Do the mule in Kadoorie Farm." However, Ah Lok stated in his interview that he would not consider wearing boxers outside until the box office reached 30 million. He said, "At most I would wear boxer shorts, not briefs. Everyone may be very happy to see them, but I won't be happy." Ah Jat joked that Ah Lok was just an idol, he had substance. Thus he would not mind wearing briefs to Mongkok for 30 million box office audience appreciation. No hands? He joked, "That would depend on the person, I don't mind anyone good. Don't make me sound like I am gold, maybe after touching people would have to wash their hands. There may be slingshots, as Angry Birds appear in Mongkok." Ah Jat even joked that Tsang Kwok Cheung's lower body could rival his, with more substance than his father Eric Tsang Chi Wai. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, JULY 21 2013, FILM WORDS OUTRAGE BEYOND DRAGS ITS FEET In July two Hong Kong films BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) and TALES FROM THE DARK (MAI LEI YEH) both captured vivid Hong Kong colors that are different from foreign and Mainland films. Yet are Hong Kongers now still enthusiastic about preserving Hong Kong specialties? It is quite a question. From cinema viewers alone, most would rather pay more to support Hollywood brand names long ago. Only a minority of Hong Kong films become surprise hits. In recent weeks Hollywood zombie film WORLD WAR Z and animation MONSTERS UNIVERSITY although are very formulaic and not outstanding films. The latter is particularly childish. However they both have made HK$40 million and left Hong Kong films far behind. Obviously American brand names have led to a flock mentality that Hong Kong style cannot catch up with. BLIND DETECTIVE has Hong Kong brand names Johnnie To Kei Fung, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Sammi Cheng Sau Man and others. Right now it has already made over 10 million, which is considered decently. In the Mainland it is charging toward 200 million and exceeds all To Kei Fung's film past Mainland box office, which is good news. TALES FROM THE DARK's cast and crew are also well known, the three ghost stories are entertaining on their own and blatantly have given up the Mainland market. Yet its Hong Kong take of 5 million is only passable and not ideal. Thus, please do not blame Hong Kong films for concentrating on the Mainland market because it is very hard to just rely on Hong Kong viewer support alone unless you are playing dirty. Next week's Hong Kong film SDU: SEX DUTIES UNTI (FEI FU CHOOK JING) is a tactical unit "sex" comedy. Reportedly TALES FROM THE DARK 2 (KEI WAN YEH) will also be category III rated. This week also has two new films from strange directors of Europe and Asia, they are I'M SO EXCITED from Spain's Pedro Almodovar and OUTRAGE BEYOND from Japan's Takeshi Kitano. Unfortunately neither is quality work and both disappoint me. The Takeshi Kitano directed and starred OUTRAGE BEYOND is a sequel to OUTRAGE three years ago. The Japanese mob as usual fights within and without. Takeshi Kitano returns with a vengeance. Tomokazu Miura seized power in the previous film betrays and deserts everyone. This film focuses more this time on the bad cop who traverses between the lawful and lawless. Finally he gets his just dessert. This film's story and characters are complicated, but it is all talk and drags its feet. Actually both films pale in comparison with Hong Kong films like ELECTION (HAK SEH WUI), INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH), and COLD WAR (HONG JIN). Takeshi Kitano's most outstanding bad guy movie remains the early VIOLENT COP. (Two out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 2. APPLE DAILY, JULY 18 2013, BIG PLANNING BRUCE LEE'S UNDYING SPIRIT The 40th anniversary of Bruce lee's passing will be in two days, and history could not help but find him. Bruce Lee is already no longer a superstar of a generation, a famous name in martial art grand masters but also a totem that the Chinese people worship to make up for their own self pity. As the nation rises, the more useful this totem has become. Of course we have to dissect the source of Bruce Lee's charm. Aside from external factors, his philosophy should be examined as well. Although Bruce Lee is dead, his spirit lives on forever. - FUNG KWOK HONG Film "Be Yourself, Express Yourself, Believe in Yourself." Conceivably no one would dare to question that Bruce Lee is a natural born actor. Born to a performing art family, his father Lee Hoi Chuen was one of the four great Cantonese Opera comedian. At 3 months old Bruce Lee already appeared in the Cantonese film GOLDEN GATE GIRL. Because of his father, Bruce Lee's childhood was spent in Cantonese Opera tents. With his stage name Little Lee Hoi Chuen and New Lee Hoi Chuen he guest starred in several films. At age 19 he starred in THE KID (SAI LO CHEUNG) and received raves, as he was called a genius child star. Later he participated in THE THUNDERSTORM and THE ORPHAN (YUN HOI GOO HUNG) and his acting received praises. However, Bruce Lee's silver screen charm had to wait until his return to Hong Kong from the U.S. When he made four Golden Harvest films THE BIG BOSS, FIST OF FURY, THE WAY OF THE DRAGON, ENTER THE DRAGON, it was truly displayed (GAME OF DEATH was only partially shot). That was the level of elevation that he obtained through life experience and personal training. From logical analysis, these film productions were rather rough. Their stories were average, as they either proclaimed that evil could not triumph over good and promoted patriotism. To quote film critic Ngong Chi, "very heavy in Righteous Harmony Society flavor." Yet Bruce Lee's posturing before a fight, his trademark style scream or the nose flick gesture have all been ingrained into viewers' minds, because he displayed the hardcore, actual real kung fu. Film has become Bruce Lee's personal martial art performance. In terms of the technique back then, shooting real kung fu scenes was rather difficult. Aside from capturing the shot, the live environment had to be kept in mind. Only by getting everything in one take was considered having a presence. During fight scenes, the shot was full body, Bruce lee's punches, kicks, turns, dodges all had to be in the shot. This also became the unique fighting aesthetics of Bruce Lee's film, even Hollywood films followed suit. Bruce Lee was the first person who took Hong Kong films international. After Bruce Lee's death, for 40 years films continued to salute him. Even Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino had to remember this great man with KILL BILL. In recent years movies about Bruce Lee have been released, unfortunately the leads only impersonated the shape but not the spirit. Ultimately no one could replace his stage charm. Philosophy "Only By Emptying Your Cup Can It Be Filled Again." If Bruce Lee is classified as a film star, a martial art revolutionary or a patriotic hero, perhaps the master has been dwarfed. Millions still worship him because he came up with a philosophy that mixed the Chinese with the West and embodied it in life. He absolutely was not "do as I say, not as I do". From his philosophy filled quotations, countless pepole were influenced to think about questions like existentialism. Bruce Lee truly was able to see himself, see Heaven and Earth, see all living things. Bruce Lee's philosophical studies mainly came from his University of Washington philosophy study. He studied philosophy because he was prone to fights as a child. Although he has won many, he in the end never understood the meaning of "victory". Thus, his university professor encouraged him to study philosophy because philosophy was able to tell him the truth of life. Bruce Lee buried himself in philosophy books and could not stop himself. He familiarized himself with books of Plato, Descartes, Nietzsche, Aquinas, expanded his world view and sowed the seed of independent thinking and rational analysis. At the same time, he also had in depth study of Chinese philosophers like Laozi and Zhuangzi. TAO TE CHING bore metaphysics ideas that mainly went from "nothing" to "something", which was drastically different from scientific theories. Bruce Lee took the seemingly opposite ideas of Tao study and martial arts, mixed them and created the "way from no way" Jeet Kune Do. Extremely few are able to mix and use Chinese and Western philosophies. Bruce Lee also used Nietzsche's philosophy of valuing yourself, knowing yourself and freeing yourself, thus he always spoke of honestly expressing himself. Thus he was able to freely express his potential, self was the real master of life as he absolutely rejected all restriction and control. This type of freedom and liberation Bruce Lee not only used on martial arts but also in everyday life. Everyday he was surpassing himself. He was not afraid of authority, deeply believed that tradition was a hindrance that would only get in the way of personal growth. Bruce Lee's freedom of thinking influence countless younger generations. With a variety of injustice in society now, we march on the street in protest. Isn't it a type of persistence? Image "Chinese People Are Not The Sick Men of Asia!" Before Bruce Lee, the Westerners' impression of Chinese people was blurry. Chinese people who occasionally appeared in film were either background characters ABC or heinous villains. They thought all Chinese last name was Wong and kept the Qing Dynasty shaved head image. This obviously neglected the existence of Chinese people and on a certain level was racial discrimination. As for the historical cause, it had to be traced back to 1840. China was defeated in the Opium War and forced into signing an unfair agreement. Later the First Sino-Japanese War and Eight Nation Alliance invasion of China erupted, Chinese dignity was nonexistent. The appearance of Bruce Le thoroughly turned around Chinese people's soft and impotent image. He made himself a role model and established a hard working, studious, persevering, innovating, daring to challenge, unyielding to tyrant spirit for the Chinese people, for Westerners to evaluate Chinese culture anew. Its meaning was even more important than the average foreign policy. Bruce Lee deeply understood his position, he would rather lose the chance to perform than to play characters who were insulting to the Chinese. Even if he was starved to death he refused to yield. He once said, "Many characters requires braids, No matter how much their salaries were I wouldn't agree. The braid is actually degrading." Even though Bruce Lee had an extraordinary charm, he still relied on its display on film. The 1972 release of FIST OF FURY (JING MO MOON) was in the right place, at the right time with the right people as it solidified his patriotic hero image. As the China Japan dispute over the Diaoyutao Island sovereignty continued without any end, a movie about family and national hatred naturally had a melodramatic effect. The story made the Japanese Empire the major villains. The Bruce Lee played Chen Zhen beat the Japanese into a pulp in the Hongkou Dojo, how could the audience not intensely cheer? The line "Chinese people are not the sick men of Asia!" still resonates today. Unfortunately after the death of Bruce Lee, no Chinese was able to succeed his position. Even today as the nation rose, Chinese in the eyes of Westerners remained that Chinese suit, kung fu shoe wearing, hopping kung fu kid...... Kung Fu "I would never say I am the best in the world, but I would never admit that I am second best." Bruce Lee was a natural born martial artist. At age 7 he studied Tai Chi with his father Lee Hoi Chuen. At age 13 he studied Wing Chun with Ip Man. At age 22 he raised his own "Jun Fan National Art Hall" banner in the U.S. Reportedly he collected over 2,500 martial art books and lived up to the name of a martial art maniac. Bruce Lee excelled in the long staff, the short staff, the nunchukus, studied Qi Gong and Ying Gong. Triple Kick Lee and one inch punch were also his unique techniques. Yet, in terms of Bruce Lee's greatest martial art achievement was his creation Jeet Kune Do. Hollywood superstar Steve McQueen and director Roman Polanski were among Bruce Lee's disciples. Chinese martial arts were profound and deep, every style had its own formulas and routines. Only Bruce Lee was able to set aside the difference in style and merged them all for the greater good. He once said, "If you follow tradition, you can only live under its shadow. You understand the old way but not yourself." Jeet Kune Do is an actual fighting system that is based on Wing Chun, boxing and fencing. It absorbs the something out of nothing philosophy of Taoists. Simply said, you learn to forget yourself. During the fight you coordinate with your enemies' movements, subconsciously react momentarily to defeat them with speed, ferocity and accuracy. He also compared martial art to water, feeling that water had no shape. Without routine, it was able to change the world. Fighting did not care of style and seemed to be changing. The West has always underestimated Chinese kung fu and thought kicks were savage behavior. Bruce Lee displayed his unique kung fu aesthetics and went against their arrogant thinking. The Oxford English Dictionary even added the term kung fu. Jeet Kune Do also began to serve its purpose in the U.S. martial art world. The rise of Mixed Martial Arts in the 90s permitted competitors to use different fighting abilities to fight with complete freedom without any restriction until the opponent was knocked out (or surrender). Jeet Kune Do due to its lack of restrictions made it hard to pass on. Now many studied Jeet Kune Do, but most only imitated Bruce Lee's style and movements and overlooked the most important Taoist and Zen ideals. They are unable to make a way from no way, using no limit as a limit idea thoroughly. Perhaps, only a genius like Bruce Lee can understand the meaning behind it. Bruce In the Eyes of His Brother And Fan 40 years ago on July 20, Bruce Lee left this world. Robert Lee Chun Fai who has seen his brother as his idol since he was little would feel particularly sad during this time every year. Currently in the U.S. Lee Chun Fai said, "My brother passed away at such a young age, around this time I would always remember my life with him and feel very sentimental. I would recall how funny and happy he looked in front of me. He was a very friendly person. On the silver screen he looked very vicious, but actually he really liked to joke around. He was a very happy person." Lee Chun Fai would never forget Bruce Lee's smile, but his most memorable moment with Bruce was in 1959 when Bruce Lee was about to go to study in the U.S. He seriously bid farewell to Lee Chun Fai before bedtime. Lee Chun Fai said, "Before going to the U.S., he came over to my bed. At the time I was asleep, he woke me up. Normally he would be very happy and smiled a lot. That night he very seriously said to me, 'I am leaving tomorrow, leaving Hong Kong for a place that I am not familiar with.' He was a little lost about the future. Normally he would always joke around and laugh and wouldn't tell me stuff like this. I would always remember that. He was very serious, very helpless." Actually, in the 50s Bruce Lee originally participated in a singing contest. Lee Chun Fai said, "At the first RTV had a singing contest, he participated with our sister Chau Yuen and brother Chung Sum. None of them qualified. Bruce was eliminated as soon as he started. I still remember listening at home, but I already forgot what song Bruce sang." Hope To Publish Bruce Lee's Art of War Aside from Lee Chun Fai, die hard Bruce Lee fan Au Kam Tong also said that if he had to sum up Bruce Lee's influence on the later generations he would still be talking after three days and nights. Yet one line could already told how important he was. "He mixed the Chinese with the West and was top notch smart. You can say that never before and never again would someone like Bruce Lee appear again." Bruce's influence on the later generations are in three areas: kung fu, film art and philosophy. Au Kam Tong added, "Bruce's films have a lot of documentations. he also founded many new production methods. However film was just how he promoted philosophy, kung fu was the same way." He said that all of Bruce Lee's philosophy came from personal experience and not from pure imagination. He said, "If someone turned Bruce's ideas into a book, this book would be Bruce's Art of War. It could be used in any business arena like Sun Tzu's Art of War." - DAI CHOI WOON, HO WING NING 5 Year Long Exhibit After years of planning the Bruce Lee exhibit will open in two days (the 20th), the 40th anniversary of Bruce Lee's passing, at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in Shatin. Yuya Ishii Ryuhei Matsuda, Aoi Miyazaki, Joe Odagiri Rating : I Length : 133 mins. Opening August 22 2013 [ BROADWAY CIRCUITS ] Majime is, by all accounts, a word person. Physically clumsy and socially awkward, he only truly feels at home within the rules and confines of lexicography. After struggling in the sales division of the Genbu Books publishing company, he manages to land his dream job in the Dictionary Editorial Department, where he can use his talents to compile a new dictionary, called "The Great Passage." Partnering with Majime is a callow young man who is slow to develop an appreciation for the challenging task ahead. Majime’s love of language, however, leaves him speechless when he meets Kaguya, his landlady's granddaughter, who moves into his building and beguiles him with her obsession with cooking knives and fine cuisine. Majime soon finds that the words he has studied his whole life are inadequate to express his true feelings for Kaguya. Meanwhile, complications begin piling up as the dictionary department descends into chaos. Rising Japanese director Yuya Ishii sets this gentle dramatic comedy in the 1990s, well before the Wild West attitude of Google and Wikipedia. Like other teenagers, they’re stressing over upcoming college entrance exams – and even more so when they’re forced to join the school choir in order to fill a remaining requirement. There, their unorthodox instructor blends the principles of classic Western music and traditional Korean song. Though at first they are reluctant to learn, they soon find a love for this exciting blend of music… and are forced to band together when the school cancels their annual summer concert. Will their music survive? Tuesday, August 13, 2013 @ 7PM I AM. Shining light on what defines the performers and the intense effort that goes into their meticulously-staged concerts, this touching coming-of-age story is just as much about the growing pains and glory of the young artists as it is about their music. Featuring tons of incredible music and amazing K-pop cameos, this is the inside look into Korea’s popular music scene.
