MISCELLANEOUS * (2013/05/01) Dance King and Golden Horse Best Actor Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's break up may have to do with his good friend Charlie Yeung Choi Nei! Last year Sing Sing worked on the Yeung Choi Nei directed CHRISTMAS ROSE (SING DAN MUI GWAI). The film depicted a human nature struggle that affected his soul more or less. Sing Sing said that the movie changed his thinking. He hoped that everyone would be able to resolve the knots in their hearts and felt that "they should not live in conditions that were unsuitable". He even compared love to "shoes", hinting that the 32 year old Lynn was not "right" and leaving his feet scratched up and bloodied. Thus he decided to "take off the shoes" for them both. "When a pair of shoes isn't right, it makes your feet uncomfortable all day. You too want to change into a more comfortable pair. We have to walk everyday so it's like a companion, we should find a right pair before putting it on. At least it wouldn't crush us. If we force it on we would only bleed and the wound wouldn't close. Finding another pair may be even better. I think like that even in the romantic world!" Sing Sing continued to explain "no happiness from forcing things" with Buddhism, feeling that "letting go than persisting on" is more right sentiment. "People with gray thinking can lose themselves. If you can think for other people, hoping that they would live even better, this type of release will definitely be peace to the world if everyone think like this." Although he had such a tolerant world view, the Buddhist Sing Sing did not feel he was noble and absolutely would not become a monk. He only felt that Buddhism made him differentiate between right and wrong and taught him to turn sorrow into strength. In the film he lost his father and he was in full command of his performance. Sing Sing said that he did not inject any personal feeling and purely started from the angle of the character. He also said that the real him absolutely would not cry. "I am a very strong person, no matter how heart broken I am I wouldn't shed a tear. I would suppress it inside and only release it in movies." He also praised Yeung Choi Nei was in full control in her directing debut, making a fully commercial film about sexual assault. He praised her as very sharp. Yeung Choi Nei directed for the first time with the film CHRISTMAS ROSE and even asked her good friend Kwok Fu Sing for help as the lead. They have known each other for over 20 years. Charlie praised him as more and more mature with his life and acting. "This time this Sing Sing is pretty different from before. He used a very reserved way to perform. He thought up the glasses and the checkered shirt. It wasn't his most handsome look but he didn't mind." Although they were close, Sing Sing "changed face" as soon as he arrived at the set and coordinate with director Charlie as an actor. He was not messing around and received Charlie's endless compliments! Speaking of Sing Sing not longer long for the Best Actor award, Charlie still wanted to help her friend fulfill his dream. "Every time he would do all of his homework, he truly deserves an award." Speaking of how controversial her directing debut is with a sexual assault case and the participation of great actors like Golden Horse Best Actress Kwai Lun-Mei, Chang Chen, Liu Kai Chi and Qin Hailu, Charlie was very grateful and full of anticipation for her work. * (2013/05/01) The Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Anita Yuen Wing Yi, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Gillian Chung Yun Tung starred Emperor Motion Picture IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT (IP MAN JUNG GIK YUT JIN) won the bronze prize at the Udine Far East Film Festival, another Hong Kong film to win such honor since AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (FU JI) in 2007. Director Herman Yau Lai To and screen writer Lee Man personally accepted the award and even said that winning an award in Udine with a film that was Hong Kong nostalgia was truly rare. They hoped more foreign viewers will be able to recognize this film and even like Hong Kong film. This film festival did not have any competition and thus had no jury. However the festival traditionally arranged for viewers to vote for films that they have watched on a scale of 5 points. Finally the 3 films with the highest average points win prizes. IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT received 4.25 points and won the Bronze prize. * (2013/05/01) Shiga Lin Si Nga, Jinny Ng Yeuk Hei and Jason Chung Yat Hin yesterday attended a Ma On Shan school event. Lin Si Nga and Ng Yeuk Hei will soon work on the Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s new film. Lin Si Nga revealed that the characters have not been decided yet and she awaited the film company's arrangement; but because she will work on another film about personality split, she worried that she would truly suffer from it. She said, "A comedy and a horror film, on several days they will overlap. I am afraid that I will really suffer from a personality split. Actually I have read the scripts and realized that many in Hong Kong had mood disorder. I too due to stress could not sleep or eat. Later I gradually started exercising and I was much more comfortable." Ng Yeuk Hei in the film played a night club "Mamasan" character for the first film in the film. She said, "Actually I have always said to the director that I wanted to be a big sister mobster. Though that didn't happen, this time I felt a little similar. (Would you learn foul language and smoking?) I can say it, but during rehearsal the director thought my foul language wasn't convincing enough. Hopefully after the production begins I will be able to break through myself." She said that she could not accept strange men near her so she could not accept any intimate scene. * (2013/05/01) Summer will soon arrive. This summer will have over 30 film releases but foreign films still have the advantage with one blockbuster after another; perhaps due to IRON MAN 3, hero films rise in this period with the Brad Pitt starred WORLD WAR Z, the Hugh Jackman starred THE WOLVERINE, MAN OF STEEL, PACIFIC RIM and 300 RISE OF AN EMPIRE as well as a parody hero film KICK-ASS 2. Andy Lau Tak Wa will carry the banner for Chinese films with two films, SWITCH (TIN GEI FU CHUN SHAN GUI TOH) with Lin Chiling and BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) with diva Sammi Cheng Sau Man. Both adults and children like the animation MONSTER UNIVERSITY, the television Best Actor Wayne Lai Yiu Cheung voiced DESPICABLE ME 2 and the AVATAR and the ICE AGE team's EPIC. This summer Chinese films will feature police and special agent films. Lau Tak Wa will have two. First he will work with Lin Chiling on the special agent film SWITCH and open the summer. Then he will work with his old co-star Cheng Sau Man in the police film BLIND DETECTIVE. On the same week will be the Masaharu Fukuyama and Yuriko Yoshitaka starred MIDSUMMER FORMULA (with 5 days between the 2 film releases). "Galileo" and Masaharu Fukuyama have many Hong Kong supporters and the television series is a hit in Japan. Thus MIDSUMMER FORMULA will have certain draw in Hong Kong. However, Wa Jai and Cheng Sau Man's best partnership has always been a box office guarantee. Wa Jai as a blind detective will be also refreshing. The clash between BLIND DETECTIVE and MIDSUMMER FORMULA will be fierce. Summer Hong Kong films will also include the Shawn Yue Man Lok starred SDU: SEX DUTIES UNIT (FEI FU CHOOK JING), the alternative choice of the Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Eddie Peng Yu-Yen fight film MMA (GIK JIN) and the fresh out of the oven Best Supporting Actress DaDa Chan Jing and the recently hot Christine Kuo starred HARDCORE COMEDY (CHUNG HAU MEI). Vicki Zhao Wei's directing debut Mainland hit OUR ETERNALLY LOST YOUTH and the Lee Bik Wa ghost series based TALES FROM THE DARK I (MAI LEI YEH) and II (KEI WAN YEH), this summer will truly be a battlefield with many choices. Although the weather remained chilly, Ka Ling could not care less with what she wore. Ka Ling revealed that she has always had many jewelry collections. Her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai would also give her some on his own. She said, "Every woman likes jewelry, giving gift is something that he should do. However a woman should buy some herself, having someone to give some is even happier. Wai Jai sometimes would be more thoughtful than me, he even personally designed something for me. He is considered a romantic person, he often would give surprises and make me feel very touched." As for work this year, Ka Ling said that she did not slack off as she worked on YOUNG DETECTIVE DEE RISE OF THE SEA DRAGON and the Cannes Film Festival selection BENDS (GOR GAI). She said, "Actually I have quietly done a lot of work. Wai Jai this year probably won't make a movie. Because THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) took too long, he needed to rest a little. However he wouldn't ask me to be off with him. We would give ach other time to do our own things and not restrict the others. Wai Jai's favorite thing is to stay at home. In the summer he would go to the sea. Now he is learning computers and practicing Wing Chun. He would wear a hat and medical mask to go to the supermarket, thinking that others would not be able to recognize him. Actually he is just fooling himself." * (2013/04/30) Nick Cheung Ka Fai recently worked on the Universe new film METAMORPHOSIS (SO DUK). Director Benny Chan Muk Sing asked more and more of him. Two days ago they even shot a scene in which Ka Fai was trapped inside a sinking vehicle. Some stills immediately were unveiled online. The water pressure forced Ka Fai's face against the glass. After successfully escaping his head was crushed in the gap of the door and he could suffocate for real at any moment. Many said that he was professional but urged him to be careful. Ka Fai however could not be calmer. "I have made action scenes for years. If I feel I can't do it, I definitely wouldn't force anything. However the sea water was very cold, which was the most memorable. Chan Muk Sing was great. With my safety in mind he had a boat on stand by. The crew had underwater cameras and dove into the sea to capture the most convincing side. I thought the results were great." Chan Muk Sing's heart ached for Ka Fai. "Maybe due to a storm, the temperature was very low. He was in the water for several hours and his teeth were chattering. Many crew members told me not to shoot for so long. I felt the danger there was even more serious than being trapped in the car. Actually I already accepted several takes. Ka Fai was the one who asked if he could try again. He really is very responsible and professional." Ka Fai while busy with METAMORPHOSIS also took time to participate in his new film MMA (GIK JIN)'s post production voice work. Actually the film had a 10 minute trailer for the Cannes Film Festival to attract overseas buyers. Ka Fai and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's film CONSPIRATORS (TUNG MAU) almost reached HK$10 million, no wonder Ka Fai happily said, "I am very satisfied with such a performance, thank you everyone for the respect and the support." * (2013/04/30) Sam Lee Chan Sam in the film THE INCREDIBLE TRUTH (WAN CHUEN) played a serious Japanese cop and had many scenes with Christy Chung Lai Tai. Chung Lai Tai revealed that the memorable was a heroic rescue scene. "That day the ground had a lot of bird feces, when I lay on the ground it really stank. Luckily the crew worried about bird flu and tried to coordinate with camera angles as much as they could. After every shot they would prepare alcohol for hand washing and clothing cleaning." * (2013/04/30) The Anthony Wong Chau Sun starred film IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT (IP MAN JUNG GIK YUT JIN) received the Udine Far East Film Festival bronze prize. Chau Sun said, "I am very happy that the hard work of the cast and the crew received audience recognition. Director (Herman) Yau Lai To went to accept the award. He was so happy that he was drunk. (You didn't go?) I wasn't invited, I am busy with a play preparation. (Will you invite the recovered Cheung Tat Ming to return to the stage?) I won't eliminate any possibility of working together, let me contact him!" * (2013/04/30) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) ended their 7 year relationship for just half a month, but they have already returned to form. Over the past dozen days or so, Sing Sing was asked about his break up with Lynn and rumors of "third party" Christine Kuo. He went from being down, upset to raging, but yesterday when he promoted CHRISTMAS ROSE (SING DAN MUI GWAI) he was in good spirits as he often flirted with Charlie Yeung Choi Nei. Freedom is truly joyous! Sing Sing presented a rose birthday cake to the May birthday girl Yeung Choi Nei, who will turn 39 on May 23rd -- the film's opening day. Sing Sing wished for her to win the Hong Kong Film Award Best New Director with her directing debut. "Although I wasn't nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award, I still wish her well." Was not being nominated a huge setback? Sing Sing cracked up and said, "I don't worry about the past. I too want to be a film director. Will I win the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor before directing? You can't calculate that, I won't win! I am better off keeping my feet on the ground and work." Yeung Choi Nei did not ask Sing Sing to charge less for salary, he even got a raise because of his low salary. "I too made a lot of sacrifice, turning down other jobs, smoking for the movie and even got pneumonia from a water scene. The most regrettable was the director didn't put on a bikini and get into the water with me." He suggested that if the film would be a huge box office hit, Yeung Choi Nei would wear a bikini to thank the viewers who he would take photos. * (2013/04/30) The Vicki Zhao Wei directing debut OUR ETERNALLY LOST YOUTH was released last Friday in the Mainland. The film had help from popular actors Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting), Han Geng and Yang Zishan and opened with over 45 million yuan RMB. It passed LOST IN THAILAND's 35 million and created a new 2D Chinese film opening day box office record. After 3 days it even broke the 100 million mark and made Zhao Wei the nation's fifth female director to break 100 million at the box office. As the Mainland prepares for the May Day golden week holiday, YOUTH might break 400 million yuan. According to Mainland media analysis Zhao Wei would extremely likely become the female director with the highest single film box office. The film not only invited Faye Wong to perform the theme song TO YOUTH but also added Hacken Lee Hak Kun's RED SUN and Suede's SO YOUNG. It will be released in Hong Kong in mid June. * (2013/04/29) "Born wearing a pair of sunglasses", internationally renowned director Wong Kar Wai rarely has been without his sunglasses. Yesterday this Grand Master of directing tried on glasses at an optical store. Actually Wong Kar Wai was as selective with his glasses as with his movies. He even showed his eyes while his wife became the "female Wong Kar Wai" and put on sunglasses. Whether you like Wong Kar Wai's movies or not, everyone know that "Wong Kar Wai" and sunglasses were almost inseparable "conjoint twins". Earlier Eric Tsang Chi Wai described Wong Kar Wai as "born wearing sunglasses" when Wong presented the Professional Spirit Awards at the Hong Kong Film Award. However, the Big Director also had moments when he was without his "beloved". Yesterday Wong Kar Wai went to pick out a pair of glasses at a Causeway Bay optical store. After over a hour of choosing he finally left the store with his wife. If not for his height, he almost could not be recognized as Big Director Wong without his sunglasses. Meanwhile, Mrs. Wong put on sunglasses like a female version Wong Kar Wai. * (2013/04/29) The film BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) is director Johnnie To Kei Fung, Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man's "reunion" after 10 years. The film's first series of hardcore stills were released yesterday. Playing a female police officer Ho Ka Tung, Sammi's face was covered in blood. She and a topless and wild haired maniac fought inside an old factory, the eerie atmosphere was chilling. Standing aside, the blind detective Lau Tak Wa due to vision problem had no way to help Ho ka Tung and looked very helpless. Sammi was not a fight scene expert. She said, "The most important is relax my body, the result is decent." BLIND DETECTIVE earlier was selected for the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Midnight Screening and the trio have already made plans to appear in Cannes together. * (2013/04/29) Miki Yeung Oi Kun yesterday attended an event for her film years ago B420. She revealed that this year she will return to music and even release a new book in July. Later she will fly to Thailand for photos. Miki joked that she was too thin to battle pseudo models. Has her boyfriend complained about how busy her work schedule was? Miki said, "No, I have always handled my love life in a low key manner. The company also permits me to date or wed, but not so soon. If I have a chance I want to work on a series in the Mainland." She said that her new book will be about love, career and her thinking. When her friend Stephy Tang Lai Yun released her book years ago it was criticized for all the typos. Miki said, "The company will have screen writing co-workers to help with the editing." * (2013/04/28) Vicki Zhao Wei's directing debut, OUR ETERNALLY LOST YOUTH two days ago was released in the Mainland exceeded 45 million RMB before its opening day ended and the LOST IN THAILAND opening day box office of 35 million RMB for the new Mainland 2D Chinese film opening day box office. According to the Mainland online advanced box office tabulation, YOUTH has already passed JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CONQUERING THE DEMONS (SAI YAU, GONG MOR PIN)'s advanced sales. Zhao Wei yesterday screamed in joy "We beat (Stephen) Chow Sing Chi!" Zhao Wei put all of her effort into her debut YOUTH, starring Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting), Han Geng and others. She even invited her good friend Faye Wong to perform the theme song. Someone online posted, "I went to buy tickets for YOUTH 3 hours in advance and only the last row and the third row were left." According to YOUTH's current trend, this week's box office would reach 120 million; with the Golden Week next week the box office might reach 500 million. Viewers have generally praised YOUTH. A critic raved, "The most passing youth film in the past 10 years." The film was a hit with the audience with laughter and tears. However some viewers did not understand the later part too much; Zhao Wei earlier explained, "Although the film is called YOUTH, basically it's made for adults; in particular to those with experience, children might not understand the later part too much." * (2013/04/28) Cherie Chung Chor Hung has been retired from film for years but her glory remains as strong as ever. Director Pang Ho Cheung is interested in asking her to return for the LOVE IN THE BUFF sequel (CHUN GIU YU JI MING YUT GA), to play Shawn Yue Man Lok's mother and reunite with Fat Gor Chow Yun Fat as a pair. Hung Goo two nights ago at a party said that she needed time to consider and would be interested in making movies with positive energy and about environmental protection. Hung Goo two nights ago was asked about Yue Man Lok's earlier response that Hung Goo should play his lover in the new film. Hung Goo sweetly smiled and responded, "I don't dare! Although I haven't seen LOVE IN THE BUFF yet, I am still paying attention to his movies. Am I interested? You have to ask the director. I need more time to consider. I am not afraid of how tough film production is because when I do something I like I wouldn't feel it's tough. Consideration factors include the script, the director and my schedule. If Fat Gor agrees then it would be the best!" Hung Goo feels that the current Hong Kong film industry needs a new generation of actors and directors to take the lead. She saw the variety at this year's Hong Kong Film Award and was very touched. "The Hong Kong film industry is starting to recover, with many good movies productions. Only then can more filmmakers be trained." Full of acting experience Hung Goo humbly said that she did not have the ability to be a boss and invest in film, and she did not know how to direct. "Be a boss and invest? I am not that noble and don't have that ability. I haven't been in touch with film for too long and never thought about directing. I still like film and appreciate all the beautiful memories that it has given me. Which type of script would be attractive to me? Something with positive energy and subject about environmental protection would be the best. Normally I like to watch documentary films but never thought about making one myself." Aside from directors, Hung Goo also has paid attention to the new generation of actors but did not name anyone in praise. She said that she was not qualified to give newcomers any guidance. * (2013/04/27) Jennifer Tse Ting Ting yesterday attended a mobile phone event. Ting Ting said that due to work she and boyfriend Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) rarely saw each other. "We haven't seen each other in 3 weeks, but would video chat everyday." Ting Ting is still a free agent currently as she is still choosing a new company. "The matter got somewhat dicey. Originally it already had a new direction but the company had personnel changes, now I have to consider further. Brother (Nicholas) Tse Ting Fung hasn't given me any advice, but he has so many ideas. If he opens a film company I definitely would sign with him." Rumored to have signed with Emperor, Ting Ting said, "Because Brother is an Emperor artist, everyone feels that I would sign with it too. I want to work in film, I have also an offer from the U.S. to work there." Yam Tat Wa would limit his daughter's mobile phone use. He said, "My daughter uses it to listen to songs the most. Earlier I went to English for a commercial shoot and she used her mobile phone to buy books for me remotely." Yam Tat Wa today will head to Beijing and the Changbai Mountain for THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP). Due to the weather change, the production has gone overtime. Yam Tat Wa earlier directed the film CHONG MUK (STOLEN GOOD) and worked with Lam Suet, who was rumored to owe debts. He said, "I would give me more salary to help him with his financial troubles. No one needs to worry, he can fend for himself. He is also working on other movies." * (2013/04/27) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa two nights ago attended the fashion brand UNIQLO flagship store opening. The 39 year old Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress Chin Wa was dressed like a school girl, which Ah Lok poked fun of as being very young. Chin Wa admitted that the look pleased Real Ting Chi Go. "Hubby thought it was very fresh, he liked me to dress simply." Ah Lok was confident that his girlfriend Kary Ng Yu Fei would look good as a school girl. "She looks great however she dresses." Christine Kuo was rumored to have become involved with Aaron Kwok Fu Sing. Did Ah Lok's buddy Sing Sing bring Lady Kuo to meet his friends? He said, "No, we are busy with our own things and haven't seen each other for awhile. Lynn didn't mix well with Sing Sing's friends? Only believe half of what you read. Don't listen with your ears, just believe what you see with your eyes. I don't concern myself with my friends' personal lives." Has he been in contact with Lynn? Ah Lok finally said, "I haven't really been in contact with Lynn." Chin Wa asked Ah Lok what he would do if his future wife would not get along with his friends? Ah Lok said, "It would be the best if she would be able to, but if not I wouldn't force anything. When two people are together they have to accommodate each other. Can Kary mix with my friends? She is mixing! Give her some time! Even snow takes time to melt!" Reportedly Cherie Chung Chor Hung could not accept playing Jimmy's mother in the LOVE IN THE BUFF sequel (CHUN GIU YU JI MING YUT GA) and joked that she was not qualified to play Jimmy's lover. Ah Lok said, "Hung Goo is too humble, she could even if she had one arm tied behind her back against Chin Wa. She is well maintained and is still very hot, playing a mother is too exaggerated. She can play a lover, a step mother, but not a mistress. Because Jimmy earlier had former girlfriend (Mini) Yang Mi, if he has another mistress Cherie would dump me. If Chow Yun Fat would play my Papa it would truly be great. I will leave all that for the director to negotiate!" * (2013/04/26) Filmko two days ago issued a legal letter to Beijing Enlight Media, claiming that the company in its promotion and distribution of the film AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA copied the center concept of its currently in production film 4 LAU B JOR (4TH FLOOR B FLAT) starring Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and Theresa Fu Wing. Filmko two nights ago issued a legal letter to demand the company within three days after receiving the letter to stop all promotions of AMERICAN DREAMS IN CHINA that involved the center concept of 4 LAU B JOR and to issue a written apology to the film company. Otherwise further legal action will be taken. * (2013/04/26) The Hong Kong Film Award Best New Director winner Roy Chow Hin Yeung directed MURDERER (SAT YUN FAN) and NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO), both of which left deep impression. Earlier with NIGHTFALL he finally won an award and absolutely is one of the new generation director to watch! However Roy did not worry too much about awards or fame. He said, "If I say I don't care about awards at all I would seem very fake, but the fact is I really like making movies too much. I care the most about making a good movie, which is more satisfying than winning an award." He also said that he must insist on principle in his creations. "I can't mind from the start that people won't be able to accept it, I have to insist on my principles. My movies definitely isn't a movie that compromises!" Before becoming the director, Roy worked with producer Bill Kong Chi Keung and director Ang Lee. Roy did not forget to thank them. "Many very successful and outstanding people cultivated me, from them I learned the serious production attitude and the passion for film." * (2013/04/26) The open minded and optimistic Kabby Hui Nga Ting recently worked on her first film. In the LONELY FIFTEEN (LAN MUI JAI) 2013 version WHAT'S UP GIRL (MEI GAU SIU NUI) she played Irene Wan Bik Ha's rebellious daughter. Only 18 she got such an opportunity for her first time. With only a week to study the screenplay, Kabby was so nervous that she lost sleep. Luckily she had "mother" Wan Bik Ha's advice. "Sister Irene said that she picked me because I was 'kid' enough. In the film we always argued. At first I didn't dare to and she told me to just relax and yell at her!" Kabby said that Wan Bik Ha treated her like her own daughter the entire time and even gave her a massage. She praised her as a super nice person. * (2013/04/26) Janice Man Wing Shan yesterday attended a skin care product. Reportedly at the Hong Kong Film Award director Roy Chow Hin Yeung made inappropriate contact with her, she confirmed that she was not taken advantage of. "If I didn't feel right, I would've asked for help. I believe everyone's just oversensitive, when I see former co-workers I would politely grab them by the shoulder or the waist to greet them." Once on an escalator an otaku almost caught an upskirt picture, luckily she found out in time and left. JM is willing to go all out for her career and would not mind hardcore performances like rape scenes. "When the story requires it, I wouldn't resist it. As long as I have taken the full precaution it's fine." * (2013/04/26) Johnnie To Kei Fung went to Taiwan to promote his new film DRUG WAR (DUK JIN) and everyone celebrates his 58th birthday. Wallace Chung Hong Leung in the film performed with facial hair and even made his first gun fight and car crash scenes. The scariest part was when the gun suddenly backfired, the spark scorched his thigh and even burnt his pants. Chung Hong Leung was very honored to work with To Kei Fung. Although he was not the lead actor, he was willing to wait two months in the hotel for his turn. To Kei Fung felt that gun fight films have been excessive all around the world. DRUG WAR wanted to express how vicious people could be and how immoral drug dealers are. * (2013/04/26) JuJu Chan two nights attended the film LOVE CHECK IN (OI DA KA). In July she will not only work on the foreign film but also represent Hong Kong in a world Tae Kwon Do competition in Bulgaria. "I have studied Tae Kwon Do for three or four years, this will be my first time representing Hong Kong in world competition. I have dreamed of being an athlete since childhood, so I would definitely do my best." JuJu Chan earned her black belt only after two years and received her master's praise. "I am not worried about being no match for foreigners, but the Korean team is very strong. I have to be at my best during competition." * (2013/04/25) Shu Qi who just turned 37th on Tuesday began to work on Hou Hsiao-Hsien's film THE ASSASSIN last October. In the film Shu Qi played the heroine, with both fight scenes and wire work that left her with bruises and scars all over. Yesterday reports surfaced in Taiwan that the film has already halted production before Shu Qi's birthday as its HK$100 million budget has been spent. Without any new funding and Shu Qi's scenes have not been completed yet, the film will not be finished until June. Shu Qi in order to accommodate the production turned down THE GOLDEN MONK (JAI GUNG) with Louis Koo Tin Lok. However THE ASSASSIN production yesterday denied the rumor of funding problems and stressed that after the production completion last month, the film is now in post production. The crew is also looking for locations in the Mainland to continue the shoot later. * (2013/04/25) Recovering from illness for a year, director John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) two nights ago appeared at the 3rd Beijing International Film Festival closing ceremony and yesterday attended the China U.S. International film master course and industry summit at the Beijing Film Academy as a guest speaker. Speaking of Chinese film development, Ng Yu Sum said that Chinese film was selling very well and had many excellent personnel. On the other hand subjects were very few. Then he said, "Seemingly everyone is making the same type of movies. The film industry is very messy, it's not like a film. It's more like a game of power." * (2013/04/25) Recently Julian Cheung Chi Lam in support of the Hong Kong film industry loaned his over HK$3 million Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder convertible to THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP) film production. The crew and the film's primary driver Donnie Yen Chi Tan took extra great care with the Lamborghini but still were no match for an accident. Reportedly during a Tsing Ma Bridge set loose pebbles and sand scratched the Lamborghini earlier, leaving scars at the base of the door and the bottom of the car. As soon as the film company discovered the scratches it immediately sent it to the garage for repair, which would cost over HK$10,000. The garage boss said, "The paint needed to be purchased from the original factory and would cost more. For good results including labor the job would cost over 10,000." Chilam seemed to have no idea bout the damage, but Mr. Nice Guy remained very confident in the film company. "I haven't heard about it and I didn't know. (Are you worried?) No, the car is just a thing, and I believe that the film company will return it to me without any damage." * (2013/04/25) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) broke up after 7 years together. Faced with rumors with Christine Kuo and fan attacks on his manager Siu Mei, he was no longer silent when asked about rumors in Beijing. Sing Sing promoted his film CONSPIRATORS (TUNG MAU) in Beijing and the break up remained in focus. With the fan attacks he was so upset that he said, "Are you very pleased from yelling at people? When I am hurt are you very happy?" As for rumors that Lynn cheated first, he did not forced anything and changed his role to give his blessing! Sing Sing was faced with outside attack on rumors about Christine Kuo's involvement in his break up with Hung Doi Lam. He said that on the internet platform everyone has the freedom of speech. Some people only look at the surface and lost the direction of facts. Fans began a war of words for their idols. Sing Sing said that protecting idols is normal, but he had to ask if everyone were very pleased with yelling at people? If he was hurt would they be very happy? He said that he was a Buddhist. Everyone was calm and no outsider know what happened between them. Sing Sing said, "I am not mad, everyone may write out what their ears hear, but what they hear is wrong. When I read them I think they are funny. People who attack me with foul language are very dull, perhaps young people lack life experience." As for the reason behind his break up, he said that everyone's decision has its reason and it is not as severe as cause and effect. This decision may not necessarily be bad, sometimes you cannot force things, you have to change the role and give your blessing. When reporters asked Sing Sing whether the break up was due to Hung Doi Lam cheating first, Sing Sing looked upset as workers stopped further questions. He directly replied no comment. Sing Sing also did not forget the goal of the promotion was the film CONSPIRATORS. He insisted on talking about work, saying risking his life for work was his true nature. Now he still is silently working, protecting everything that he already has which is his work. He understood that the world had many people who liked him and disliked him. * (2013/04/25) Jackie Chan two nights ago attended the Beijing International Film Festival with Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun). This time they both appeared as directors. Jackie Chan praised Chow Kit Lun's directing abilities. He even pointed out that as he grew older, Siu Fong Ji (Jaycee Chan) has been disappointing. Thus he said that he would pass on the kung fu film mantle to Chow Kit Lun. Chow Kit Lun revealed that he wanted to direct because he wanted to control others. Why did he not ask Jackie Chan to perform? Was he unable to control him? Chow Kit Lun respectfully said that he absolutely did not dare to control him. * (2013/04/25) Shiga Lin Si Nga yesterday attended a fashion store opening and even relived her part time model past. "I have never modeled swimwear, I might not have enough guts to either because I don't have confidence in my figure. I don't have meat where I should and I have more meat where I shouldn't. (Would you consider breast enhancement?) Definitely no shots and surgeries, I hear aside from massage, herbal medicine and acupuncture are also effective for breast enhancement. If the need arises in the future I will try the Chinese herbal medicine method." She said that she had to stay in shape for Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s romantic comedy. "Originally I would have worked with (Sita) Chan Hei Yi on this film. I never thought that the day after I received the notice she passed away. Now with this sensitive situation, I wouldn't ask who took over her role." She said that she has never worked a comedy and for now she did not need to shoot any intimate scene. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, APRIL 29 2013, FILM WORDS WE WERE THERE: SUITABLE FOR FEMALE VIEWERS The release of IRON MAN 3 is invincible. Among the other new films I only watched WE WERE THERE: FIRST LOVE. This Japanese hit is adapted from a popular young woman manga and suitable for female viewers. Yuriko Yoshitaka plays a Hokkaido high school girl who falls for an idol guy. This type of romance is familiar looking, fortunately it achieves a fresh and innocent romance. The female lead is very cute, keeping the formulaic story attractive from the beginning to the end. The second half TRUE LOVE will be released soon as well. Seemingly in today's film world, the most able to maintain the pure romance tradition are Japanese young girl films. (two and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI [ In Production Now/Soon ] d. Louis Koo is Timmy, a Hong Kong drug trafficker, while Mainland police captain Zhang, played by Sun Honglei, is out there to get him. Zhang at times succeeds in capturing Timmy, and at times Timmy slips from Zhang's grasp (or does he?). Cop and robber caught in a classical, ghostly dance; their loyalties are different but their psychologies are the same. Single-minded, brutal and almost cold-blooded, the two men will stop at nothing to destroy each other. The final bloodbath at a primary school sets a new standard for violence. The patriarch is loyal to the emperor. His loving wife has given him seven sons who all love their mother very much. When the patriarch falls prey to the scheme of a villain and is subsequently trapped by the northern barbarians, the six sons set out for the rescue. With battles scenes and single combats galore, and the seven sons played by Chinese-language cinema's hottest males (with their pretty faces and buff bodies), this is almost like The Iliad -- but with special Chinese characteristics. [ THE FILM CATALOGUE ] This is an epical tale about the renowned Song Dynasty’s military defense by the clan of Yang’s against the nomadic Northern nation the Liao, sometimes also known as the Khitans in ancient Chinese history account. Headed by a charismatic old veteran general named YangYe, the Yang Clan has been the major military force protecting the Song Empire and its people against their ever invasive neighbor. From YangYe and his wife Madame She, we witness the coming of age of their seven sons namely Ping, Ding, Ang, Hui, De, Zhao and Si throughout the various battlefields in the story. The seven young men possess different temperament and characters united under a single banner and a heart of lion. FINDING MR. RIGHT Rating : I Length : 121 mins. The new version adds the post earthquake fears and depicts modern Japan in details. It is more than a salute to its predecessor with a style of its own. After an earthquake, Mr. and Mrs. Hirayama who have lived on an island come to Tokyo to visit their three children. Eldest son Koichi runs a hospital, middle daughter Shigeko runs a beauty salon and the youngest son Shuji works in stage art designs. Although the children hope to take care of them the best they can, everyday their jobs inevitably make them neglect their parents. They thus arrange for the elderly parents to live in a luxury hotel, but the elders of course would like to be surrounded in their children's warmth. Luckily Shuji's fiance Noriko appears, her thoughtful and attentive care comforts the elders and finally relaxes them from worrying about their youngest son. The Korean Cultural Service has previously offered up plenty of micro-budget cinema and the best in Korea’s genre offerings, but this spring, we’re combining the two – and delivering New York four of the country’s most exciting micro-budgeted action, science fiction, and horror films! It is easier for larger studios to be forced to break away from the directors’ original visions to create projects that focus on mass appeal. But these micro-budget films, financed by brave individuals rather than companies, offer creative, strange, and boundary-pushing movies that no studio in their right mind would create! We’re talking about the wildest, weirdest genre films you can imagine – from Korea’s undisputed kings of micro-budgets! Get ready for an invasion, New York City… because you’re about to go up against crazed criminals, lovelorn time travelers, brain-hungry zombies, and a pair of extraterrestrial beachwear! It doesn’t get much stranger than this! Tuesday, April 30, 2013 @ 7pm THE NEIGHBOR ZOMBIE (2009, U.S. Premiere) Why should Americans have all the fun when it comes to zombie outbreaks? In this tongue-in-cheek 2009 thriller, Seoul is overrun with the walking dead – and the government says it’s time to wipe them out! A six-part comedy/horror anthology from four cutting-edge indie directors, The Neighbor Zombie follows an unbelievable zombie outbreak as it spreads throughout Korea, examining the numerous people it affects in bizarre, wild ways. With an amazing $18,000 budget, it embodies the pinnacle of what a talented group of filmmakers can accomplish if they put their delicious, juicy brains together! ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
