MISCELLANEOUS * (2013/04/17) Currently busy with the adapting the popular online novel LOST ON A RED MINIBUS TO TAIPO (NA YEH LING SUN, NGOR JOR SEUNG LIU WONG GOK HOI WONG DAI BO DIK HUNG VAN), director Fruit Chan Gor two days ago celebrated his birthday. The team held a surprise birthday party for him. The assistant director even personally made many film related cup cakes for him , then told him to go to the company for a meeting but actually planned with Chan Gor's three godsons Shine's Tsui Tin Yau, Wong Yau Nam and Sam Lee Chan Sam to celebrate his birthday. Chan Gor was very happy and made a wish on the spot. Tsui Tin Yau was also very appreciative of Chan Gor and thanked him online for discovering him in front of the Mongkok Police Station for a movie. In addition, this film originally planned to start production this month, but because of government assistance request and unconfirmed lead actress it has been postponed to next month. * (2013/04/17) Alex Lam Tak Shun and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi yesterday attended a shu uemura event. Lam Tak Shun was asked whether his half brother Chu Chi Wai will marry Taiwan artist Terri Kwan Wing. He admitted that Chu Chi Wai was his mother's son who was 10 years older than him. They were closer since they were little as they often went out and went to the movies together. When he, his mother and his sister were living in San Francisco, his brother was studying in Los Angeles and often came to San Francisco to visit his mother. He said, "I know Gor Gor really wants to get married, finally he finds his most beloved. I am happy for him but I haven't thought of what to give him." Miriam Yeung Chin Wa picked up LOVE IN A PUFF from Ivana Wong Yuen Chi and won her first Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress. Wong Yuen Chi did not mind and felt that in the future she will always have a chance to run into good directors and good scripts. She at first turned down the role not because she had to smoke and use foul language in the film but because of her vocal cord issues. She was sick for a few months and maintaining her vocal cord came first. The character had requirements. She did not mind smoking or foul language. Earlier in a play she also had foul language dialogues. * (2013/04/17) Shu Qi yesterday celebrated her 37th birthday. Online she posted her favorite Hello Kitty birthday cake photo. Shu Qi said that she had no boyfriend and was working on the Hou Hsiao-Hsien film THE ASSASSIN (NIP YUN LEUNG). She still celebrated with friends and the team. Her wish was very simple, only happiness for friends. Shu Qi yesterday said, "Thank you to my mother for letting me perfectly land kicking and screaming. Friends, your love is my most fortunate gift. If you really insist on giving me something, then you should do something for me and make yourselves happy. I haven't lack anything long ago, the most lacking is happiness for you and the world. Thus, let's get happy!" Many friends of Shu Qi sent well wishes like Vicki Zhao Wei, Zhang Ziyi, Sammi Cheng Sau Man, Eddie Peng Yu-Yen, Liu Ye and Chrissie Chau Sau Na. However Stephen Fung Tak Lun did not wish the birthday girl a happy birthday online. Zhao Wei posted, "Beautiful, cute, strong, bold and sexy lady! Luck, youth, and happiness will always be with you! When I see you I will give you another big kiss! Ha! Happy birthday!" Shu Qi replied, "Another year has faded from my youth, can I negotiate that?" Chau Sau Na posted, "Fortress Chief (her JOURNEY TO THE WEST character) Happy Birthday, I wish you good health and an always happy heart. I like your smile, may it keep affecting everyone around you." * (2013/04/17) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing two nights ago booked the restaurant on the top floor of Hopewell Center for a buffet banquet for his concert crew. Sing Sing said, "The company is taking care of it. I give my full support and don't care how much it costs. I am like a bank, just keep making withdrawals." He admitted that he did not mind because the crew has been working shoulder to shoulder with him for years. They understood his demands and persistence and he should thank and encourage them. Will his concert have a part 3? Sing Sing pointed out that he will have a chance and the stage can change again. He stressed that he would never rest except during half time. After the concert, Sing Sing originally will work on another film that was tailored for him. However after reading the script he felt that it was not the direction that he wanted to go and could only turn it down. As for COLD WAR's Hong Kong Film Award winning director Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching feeling that they owed Sing Sing because he did not have a single nomination, Sing Sing said, "They are very humble. I am very touched that they said that. I don't mind winning or losing an award, instead I am happy for the movie's 9 awards." In the future Sing Sing will focus on movies. Because he felt that he had more life experience he could try different characters and genres, but he stressed that he would not give up on music. * (2013/04/16) Martial art star Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai, originally named Sin Kam Hei) in August 2011 suffered a stroke and hemiplegia for 1 year and 8 months. Lau Ka Fai needed long term therapy, once he showed signs of improvement as he stood up with a crutch. On January 7, he was hospitalized for cramps. Lau Ka Fai's son Sin Chun Lung who Lau Ka Fai declined to see in early March contacted the police about his missing father. The original guardian Eva was suddenly changed to Amy Fan Yik Man; Lau Ka Fai and Eva's money trouble involved over HK$1 million; Lau Ka Fai was also rumored to be unconscious, comatose, or even dead. Fan Yik Man in order to end the rumors and put his family and friends at ease arranged for an interview with Lau Ka Fai. Two days ago in the afternoon Fan Yik Man accompanied reporters to visit Lau Ka Fai at a hospital. He stayed in a single room with 24 hour private nurse service. The reporter in September met with Lau Ka Fai twice. At the time his speech and mobility was better than two days ago. Now his weight is only 120 some pounds. Only 62 this year, he under the torment of illness became very old. Fan Yik Man said that Lau Ka Fai personally agreed to speak with the reporter. He knew that he needed to appear in person to put his friends and fans at ease. This time would be Lau Ka Fai's final media interview. He only wanted to recover in silence. Before the interview he was so nervous that he did not sleep the night before. From now on any rumor about Lau Ka Fai, Fan Yik Man pointed out that she did not want to repeatedly respond to untrue events. She hoped to have proof for everything and resolve matters in court. On the day of the interview, Fan Yik Man's friend bought maw stew for Lau Ka Fai. When the reporter arrived he was having the stew. When greeted he nodded in response. With Lau Ka Fai's permission, he even made a pose for the reporter to take photos and put a smile on his face. Later he saw cake and signaled that he wanted dessert first. When he had enough he would push it away. Fan Yik Man talked to him and trimmed his nails. In 18 minutes he appeared to be very carefree. When the reporter suggested for the interview to start, he became very nervous and had to be changed. The reporter could only retreat from the room for the nurses to clean him up before the interview. Because he had difficulties with language expression, he would only nod or shake his head in response to the reporter's questions. To avoid adding pressure to him in front of a camera, during the interview no photo was taken. The reporter began with "Are you happy now?" He nodded. "Do you want Eva to return your money to you?" He nodded again. "Fan Yik Man is your guardian, is it your wish?" He also nodded. "Are you happy about Fan Yik Man taking care of you?" He nodded. "Do you want to see anyone else?" He shook his head. "Do you want to see your family?" He again nodded. "Do you want to see your niece?" He nodded. "Do you want to see your wife and children?" He frowned and expressed frustration, waved his hand to send the reporter away. The psychiatrist suggested asking other questions first so he would be calmer. Yet Lau Ka Fai already signaled that he wanted to sleep and appeared to be somewhat in pain. The interview could only end. Fan Yik Man comforted him not to worry, the interview was to put people who care about him at ease. Before the reporter retreated from the room he bid him farewell. Lau Ka Fai also waved in response. The reporter contacted Lau Ka Fai's former guardian Eva. Last night she responded and said that she was not at liberty to speak now. At a suitable time she would contact the reporter again. Fan Yik Man on January 10 officially became Lau Ka Fai's guardian, which she described as "picking up after him" as many Lau Ka Fai problems had to be handled; she even tolerated a lot of outside speculations. After explaining clearly from the beginning to the end in this interview she would not discuss the matter anymore. Ultimately she was an actor, she would like to be interviewed about her performance work and not Brother Ka Fai's family dispute. Amy during the interview displayed a document from Lau Ka Fai's older sister from August 2012, stating that she lived in the U.S. and Ka Fai's four children were unable to take care of their father, thus she and Eva became her brother's guardian to handle his matter. In addition a law firm informed Lau Ka Fai's children and wife that when they visit Lau Ka Fai a lawyer would accompany them. No one was keeping the children from seeing their father and no one needed to report their father as missing to the police. Otherwise only Brother Ka Fai and people who cared about him would be disturbed. Since Lau Ka Fai's stroke the subject has revolved around his wealth. Currently his monthly hospital bill reached HK$100,000. Amy said that Lau Ka Fai's wealth was not enough to set up a trust fund. Even Brother Ka Fai's lawyer friend suggested against a "guardian" without 10 million because a lot was already spent on lawyer cost. She took over the guardian role only due to a lawyer friend volunteering his assistance. She admitted that the HK$10,000 monthly medical expense was burning money, but the patient still was conscious, even if the recovery process has not been ideal why not let him live happier in a better environment? He made the money, not borrowed or stole it. Now his money could not "burn" any longer. In the future he will have to leave the hospital. She hoped to arrange for him to recover in a better environment, which would required a lot of money. Amy heard people accusing her of hogging the guardian spot and that she wanted to fight for something. She said, "I am really fighting, I am fighting for what Ka Fai asked, for the money that he should have." She said that former assistant Eva still has not returned over HK$1 million that she was "safekeeping". She would take legal action. As for Lau Ka Fai's Thai wife once asked Brother Ka Fai to loan HK$300,000. At the time the Thai property was the collateral . After the deadline passed the debt was not paid and had to be handled as well. She said that she would follow up if the money could cover Brother Ka Fai's future medical expense. As for his property that was worth HK$8 million, when needed she would consider selling it or mortgaging it to the bank. After the stroke Lau Ka Fai has always been very hard working. He hoped to recover, but he also knew about his own condition and thus has made plans for the worst. Earlier in front of his lawyer, doctor and witnesses he made out his will. Amy was one of the witnesses. She could not reveal the content of the will but she was a witness. Thus anything in the will was unrelated to her. Amy said that Brother Ka Fai still loved his two children with his Thai wife. Currently he did not have any ability to make money but still provided insurance for his children. He was unwilling to see them because he wanted to return this past handsomeness and health before they meet. He had no hatred for his children. Every family has its problems, she as a guardian only hoped that his family would understand. For his son wanted to know about his father's condition, he could call his aunt, family or friends instead of going to the police. Amy personally handled Lau Ka Fai's affairs. As for this interview, the reporter received her notice at 4AM. Because of her effort, some questioned the reason behind her hogging the guardian spot. Was it for profit? She said that Brother Ka Fai after his stroke once rented a Mongkok apartment. When she visited, Brother Ka Fai tearfully asked her for help. The reason for the guardian switch was Ka Fai's sister told her that Brother Ka Fai felt unhappy and thus hoped Amy would take over his care. Brother Ka Fai's friend questioned why would she get to be the guardian? She asked if the friend was willing to take this job, but the friend claimed not to have time. She said, "Someone suspected that I got some advantage for helping Lau Ka Fai. This question is like asking what advantage would offering a seat to the elder bring? Luckily friends who helped me didn't ask me if I had any advantage from helping Lau Ka Fai. They are lawyers, professionals, when the situation has reached this stage, do you still ask for advantages?" Amy said that after the incident took place in January, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and TVB executive Elaine Lok Yi Ling also expressed their concern and met with her for an understanding of the situation; the Performing Artist Guild has also mentioned if he needed any help. However, other truly could not help with Brother Ka Fai's family matter. Two days ago when the reporter visited Lau Ka Fai, Fan Yik Man arranged for a psychiatrist to go along; the doctor asked for confidentiality to avoid any misunderstanding that he was promoting himself. In recent months he evaluated Lau Ka Fai's condition and intelligence because Lau Ka Fai had to handle a lot of important legal documents. He was an independent witness. According to the doctor, when he met with Lau Ka Fai in September, his body was in better condition as he was able to speak and sit in a wheel chair. After a few months, when they met again in January, his condition has deteriorated as he needed to stay in bed. At the time he had no response to others, did not want to acknowledge others, unwilling to communicate and almost has given up on himself. The hospital was prepared to intubate him but everyone tried to encourage him. They spent a long time before they were able to get him to eat something. Fan Yik Man said that when the nurse saw that he was willing to eat, when the nurse called her the nurse was moved to tears. * (2013/04/16) Wai Ying Hung recently has been in South Korea for the film WINTER IS HOPED. She took advantage of her free time to shop like crazy, spending over 2 million Won on my facial masks in several hours and even tried authentic Korean food. As for her Korean lines, she worked hard on memorizing them before departing. Once she arrived at the Korean set, she received last minute changes. Luckily she had two translators to help her. With her knack of language she very quickly learned the lines. Just in case she also wrote pronunciation hints on her hand. She praised the Korean hunk Jo Han-Sun who played her son's great performance, in particular his body language expression. She also joked that in the story she had a son and a husband, but to explain the growth of her son the team got actors of ages 3, 6, 14, and 24 to play them and Korean actors surrounded him all day long. She felt very lucky. Only the drastic temperature difference between indoors and outdoors gave her a headache. * (2013/04/16) Cherie Chung Chor Hung has retired for years and stayed in great shape. Often films would try to persuade her to make a comeback. Recently Pang Ho Cheung was interested in inviting her and Chow Yun Fat to participate in CHUN GIU YU JI MING YUT GA and play Jimmy (Shawn Yue Man Lok)'s parents. Pang Ho Cheung has been writing the scripts behind closed doors in hopes of being able to motivate them. Hung Goo still did not know whether she would make the film but she would gladly continue to live her carefree life. Earlier she went shopping in Happy Valley. Sunglasses and no makeup were still unable to hide her star power as many people recognized her on the street. When someone told her that reporters were taking photos, she walked for awhile and left. The Pang Ho Cheung directed LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) brought Miriam Yeung Chin Wa a Hong Kong Film Award, which drove him to make the third installment CHUN GIU YU JI MING YUT GA. Speaking of family, the film of course would not just have Chin Wa as Cherie and Yue Man Lok as Jimmy but also Jimmy's parents; reportedly Pang Ho Cheung would like to have Chow Yun Fat and Hung Goo to play Jimmy's parents. Yesterday Pang Ho Cheung admitted that he indeed would like Chow Yun Fat and Hung Goo to perform. He knew that it would be very hard and hoped to motivate them with the script. "I am writing the script now, it can't be rushed. Once I have a script, they would make a decision after reading it. I feel attracting them to perform has nothing to do with the size of the role. The most important is whether the characters are fun or not. I as a Hong Kong viewer haven't watched Fat Gor in a comedy in a long time, and I really want to." Pang Ho Cheung pointed out that the third installment will be about family relationships. Since he would like Fat Gor and Hung Goo to play Jimmy's parents he would focus on writing around Fat Gor and Hung Goo; however, the soonest it will go into production will be next year because this year he has two movies to make. * (2013/04/16) Fresh out of the oven Best Actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa already has the award in her pocket but still had many voices of objection. They felt that her Cherie Yu was just playing herself and described her as the luckiest Best Actress; some even said that the 6 time nominee Sammi Cheng Sau Man's acting was better than hers, and they were upset that she lost to her. However, although they have been described as rivals and even nemeses, but they could not care less about outside speculation or storm after the dust settled. Best Actress Chin Wa continued to be her Mrs. Ting while Sammi not only sincerely congratulated Chin Wa but also let herself go as she leisurely ate and continued to her running in preparation for her Sichuan visit -- a soul cleansing journey. After accepting everyone's congratulations, fresh out of the oven Best Actress Chin Wa yesterday returned to be a mother, posted a photo with her son online. "I forgot to thank my husband Mr. Ting and lover Jimmy Cheung, of course the most important Little Prince. Thank you for filling me with energy of life. p.s. I got up earlier this morning and continued to be Mama Ting. Ms. Yeung please take a break." Sammi whose running focused her goals clearly, she revealed online that she will make a visit son. "Very soon I will visit Sichuan, both as a body and soul cleansing and also as a good opportunity for introspection. Staring at the sky, I would ask myself how my days will be spent? How to spend the days even more meaningfully? These visits are often inspirational. I am looking forward to it..." Living more meaningfully is also Sammi's goal, why bother with the competition of the day? * (2013/04/16) Ivana Wong Yuen Chi reportedly turned down the role of Cherie and enabled Miriam Yeung Chin Wa to win Best Actress. Yesterday she admitted that she met with director Pang Ho Cheung, but she had vocal cord issues at the time and lost her voice severely. She even had a problem with singing and could not control her voice at all, which made her very down. She learned from reading the script that "Cherie" was a smoker and a very avid one at that, due to the sensitivity to her vocal cord at the time and the doctor urging her to properly maintain it, she could not make the film even if she wanted to. However, she had no regret because Chin Wa and Shawn Yue Man Lok were too compatible and complementary. She was very happy for Chin Wa's Best Actress victory and hoped to have a chance to work with Director Pang. The best would be able to act with Chin Wa and Yue Man Lok. * (2013/04/16) The Johnnie To Kei Fung directed film DRUG WAR (DUK JIN) after a week in release in the Mainland made over 100 million yuan RMB and a new personal box office record for him; however he was not satisfied yet as he continued to bring actors Huang Yi and Wallace Chung Hong Leung to Zhengzhou and personally promoted. The actors received an enthusiastic welcome from hundreds of crazed fans. Chung Hong Leung's cop with facial hair look in the film surprised many viewers. Godfrey Gao in the film was shot while saving Huang Yi and their relationship was ambiguous. Godfrey Gao said, "I took a shot for Huang Yi, maybe the director had his own idea." He seemingly hinted at another new collaboration with To Kei Fung. To Kei Fung praised Godfrey Gao's performance and regretted that many exciting scenes had to be cut. He promised to save suitable characters for him in the future. * (2013/04/15) The Pang Ho Cheung directed film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) brought its lead actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa her first Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress. Two nights ago at the celebration, Chin Wa and Shawn Yue Man Lok both asked the director to make the third film CHUN GIU YU JI MING YUT GA as soon as possible. Yesterday Pang Ho Cheung said that he indeed had the idea. The third film hoped to add Jimmy Cheung's father, then create the differences between the two generations in life and culture. The director would like Chow Yun Fat and Cherie Chung Chor Hung to play the parents. Fat Gor and Hung Goo once made the classic film AN AUTUMN'S TALE (CHAU TIN DIK TUNG WA). The reunion and the comeback of the long retired Hung Goo would definitely be attractive. Media Asia who invested in LOVE IN A PUFF and LOVE IN THE BUFF urged Pang Ho Cheung to hurry up and make the third film, but because the script writing will take some time, the soonest it will be able to start production will be the end of the year. Pang Ho Cheung said, "I am thinking about the story for the third film. If the story works, I hope to make it at the end of the year or early next year. In the third film I want to add Jimmy Cheung's parents, because Jimmy and Cherie get back together and live together, if Cherie has to face strange in laws they may be impacted." For Jimmy Cheung's parents, Pang Ho Cheung has his eyes on Chow Yun Fat and Chung Chor Hung. He said, "I thought for a long time and felt in the entire show business, Yue Man Lok and Fat Gor bare the most resemblances. As father and son they are the most suitable. Once at a dinner I met Fat Gor, who actually has seen LOVE IN THE BUFF and liked it. I just mentioned the idea of the third film to him and asked him to perform. He said after the script was done he could take a look." Pang Ho Cheung also pointed out that AN AUTUMN'S TALE was one of Fat Gor and Hung Goo's classic films. If the third film will be able to reunite them of course it will be the most perfect. However Hung Goo has already retired for years. Convincing her to make a comeback would not be easy. Pang Ho Cheung said, "Getting Hung Goo and Fat Gor class of actors of course had certain difficulties. After the script came out I would ask them to discuss officially!" * (2013/04/15) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress. When she won she revealed that she was the second choice to play Cherie Yu. Although she was not the first choice lead actress, she was able to let go in order to be able to play the older woman young man romance in the film. Reportedly the role of Cherie Yu belonged to Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, which would have been her big screen debut but she turned it down in the end. The director later convinced Chin Wa to take over and made her into a Best Actress. When Chin Wa revealed that she was the "second choice" to play Cherie Yu, some speculated that the original choice was Sammi Cheng Sau man, Denise Ho Wan Si and Shu Qi, but actually director Pang Ho Cheung has always wanted Wong Yuen Chi. Her actual age was two years older than lead actress Shawn Yue Man Lok, and this team would be expected and have even more spark. At the time she still has not taken the TVB series INBOUND TROUBLES (LO BIU NEI HO YEH!) after reading the LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) script realized that smoking was the subject and the film also required a lt of foul language. She was not able to get over them and thus turned it down. Pang Ho Cheung then convinced Chin Wa to perform. Chin Wa accepted the breakdown of the idol defense line and let go, unexpectedly the film had decent word of mouth during its release. The sequel even brought her the Best Actress award. Wong Yuen Chi later was also praised for her role in INBOUND. With a performance experience if she had the choice again would she be willing to play Cherie Yu? Yeung Chin Wa two nights ago at the celebration said that she forgot to thank her co-star Shawn Yue Man Lok and husband Real Ting Chi Go. She said that she did not plan to increase her salary rate after the victory and even hoped that the film company would not increase it for her, as she did not want film companies to stay away from her. Chin Wa did not set a goal for after winning Best Actress. She would only put more effort into her acting and later she will star in Pang Ho Cheung's HEUNG GONG JAI (ABERDEEN) and also will have a chance to work with Johnnie To Kei Fung. Ting Chi Ko joked that Chin Wa forgot to thank him so he would not only skip rewarding his wife but also planned to punish her. "After the Old Lady finishes her jobs at the end of the year, she has to have another one for me as soon as possible." However Chin Wa said that after her fibroid removal earlier her body needed half a year to recover. The soonest they would have a child would be next year. She also hoped to have a companion for her son. Speaking of the embarrassment from presenting an award to her old flame Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Chin Wa stressed, "I wasn't embarrassed, I feel that when a friend sees his growth and improvement, happy and perfect, it is fortunate; to have a chance to share this joy, I feel it is fortunate as well. I am very grateful." Ting Chi Ko said that because Chin Wa's body has not recovered yet, she has been ordered to stay away from alcohol. He said, "When my wife won, I really was so happy that it was like a successful marriage proposal. This award will be the best birthday present to our soon to be 1 year old son. We plan to have a private party later for her and celebrate with friends." * (2013/04/15) Sammi Cheng Sau Man two nights ago after congratulating Miriam Yeung Chin Wa online yesterday attended the OSIM Angel Mama date with Sammi. She avoided answering whether she was disappointed over the Best Actress defeat, she only stated that at the moment of announcement her heart reached 300 beats then settled down. Was Yeung Chin Wa her choice for Best Actress? Sammi said, "Chin Wa has great odds too. Actually this year was pretty even. The genres are different, so it depended on voter tastes. The spirit of competition requires the acceptance of result, I have to know how to handle hope and disappointment and face them honestly." Andy Hui Chi On online comforted his girlfriend, "Tonight you are so beautiful that you stole all the spotlight from the venue, what more do you want?" Sammi sweetly said, "He has to do something too. How did he comfort me? We ate together and (Aaron) Kwok Fu Sing paid my bill, I was very happy! I can't reveal what On Jai said, he has to do something. We are rarely like this online. I was very touched, he wanted to give me some encouragement." Sammi was the most sentimental about the red carpet moment. She said, "I never enjoy the red carpet. The last time I was nominated I had depression, couldn't handle and was absent from the red carpet. This time walking on it again after recovering, the process made me very happy and sentimental." The last time she competed for Best Actress she had depression. Did she feel that On Jai was particularly worried about her being nominated again? Sammi said, "He wasn't worried and wasn't consoling me. He truly thought that I was very hot and couldn't help but praise me. I am very happy. Does On Jai praise me often? That depends on before or after make up. The look is only a small part. The most important is how we are together, the look isn't what you face in a lifetime." * (2013/04/15) COLD WAR (HONG JIN) and NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) two nights ago held a Hong Kong Film Award celebration. Fresh out of the oven Best Actor Tony Leung Ka Fai, Best Directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Janice Man Wing Shan, Chin Kar Lok and Gordon Lam Ka Tung celebrated with champagne. Leung Ka Fai kissed his wife passionately before accepting his award. He joked, "I only get a kiss when I win, I want to take advantage of this opportunity and kiss a little longer. It wasn't too passionate. We are already an old couple." Leung Ka Fai said that he would not increase his salary. Some said that he waved to the people on the red carpet and seemed to be very confident about winning Best Actor. He said, "No, I was afraid that I wouldn't win. The venue has so many tourists, I was just doing my Hong Kong goodwill ambassador duty to introduce them to the Avenue of the Stars." Cheung Ka Fai who did not win Best actor said that Roy Chow Hin Yeung's Best New Director award was already an encouragement. He would not be unhappy. "NIGHTFALL was released early last year, timing was already a loss. If you can bet you haven't lost yet, next year I will have a lot of movies." Did his audition with famous American director Michael Mann have any result? Cheung Ka Fai said, "I am not ambitious about working in Hollywood, I just went as a fan to the meeting. I even told him that I didn't have to have the role, the meeting was very valuable. I didn't audition for him, I just did my part." Speaking of messing with Ronald Cheng Chung Kei on the stage, Cheung Ka Fai said, "Beforehand I asked Yeung Chin Wa if joking around was a problem, she said that she was fine but Cheng Chung Kei's wife came. (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun's joke about my height? He is so immature, height isn't everything!" Directors Leung Lok man and Luk Kim Ching predicted that COLD WAR would win 6 awards at most, so they were very happy that it tied COMRADES ALMOST A LOVE STORY (TIM MUK MUK)'s 9 award record. As for the sequel, they said, "The boss urges us to be quick. Aside from characters who died in the film, the original cast will return with new members. Leung Ka Fai also agreed. Will (Andy) Lau Tak Wa have more screen time? The boss will decide that. Due to the confidentiality agreement we can't reveal too much. Will Chow Yun Fat join? We didn't leak that, Fat Gor hasn't been contacted yet. Many people are interested." Will they push Kwok Fu Sing who was not nominated? They said, "That's our fault, next time we will write his character better." * (2013/04/15) Eric Tsang Chi Wai two nights ago attended the Hong Kong Film Award celebration and received a cake as everyone sang the birthday song to celebrate his 60th birthday. His children Bowie and Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung also gave him kisses, Chi Wai was overjoyed. He said that although he asked friends to donate money to charity as gifts, friends both donated money and gave presents as gifts filled his living room. He was very touched. "When Bowie was 20, I gave her a supplementary card. For my birthday this year, she gave me a supplementary card." As celebrations followed one after another, he hoped to continue all the way to the end of the year. "In a few days I will go to Taiwan with a group of golf friends, at the end of month I will go on vacation with the Trio group." Chi Wai joked about his always low key wife being made a magazine cover at his celebration banquet. "It's such a joyous day, of course I would share with everyone." Tsang Chi Wai yesterday turns 60. He celebrated at Disneyland Hong Kong, booked up 3 sections and invited 300 friends. However, tourists, parents and children were turned away from rides as they were disappointed and complained about the improper arrangement. Chi Wai found out and felt very sorry. Chi Wai has been celebrating nonstop for days. Yesterday he booked up three areas in Disneyland including Grizzly Gulch and Toy Story Land for him and 300 friends. Around 4PM, the theme park suddenly closed up for the private party and disappointed tourists and children alike. They complained, "Are you kidding? We paid and we don't get to play!" Later, Wilson Chin Kwok Wai, Elaine Lok Yi Ling, So Chi Wai, Chin Kar Lok, Angela Tong Ying Ying and others played in the areas. At 6PM, Chi Wai held the birthday party at the hotel. Friends like Charmaine Sheh Si Man, Sheren Tang Shui Man, Kenny Bee (Chung Chun To), Wong Cho Nam and Leanne Li Yanan, Nat Chan Pak Cheung and Wong Hung Sau, Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Shirley Kwan Suk Yi and others. The birthday boy posed for photos with Mickey and Minnie then spoke to the media. He said that he booked the park because many artists normally worried about starting a frenzy and did not have a chance to play. Thus he made the arrangement for them to have fun. The park gave him quite a deal. As for the complaints of other visitors, he was surprised. "Huh? I didn't know, I am so sorry! Tell them to find me, I would invite them back in t play." Toby Leung Ching Kei said that they applied for the closure in advanced. Chi Wai last night spent the night with his family at the hotel. Friends also heard his call to donate the money for gifts to charity. Would he continue to be the "drunk street artist"? He said that he did not know. One of the foreign security guards seemed to have protected Ricky Wee previously. Kwan Suk Yi's son did not attend. Her son did not want to be on camera and she respected his wishes. Cheung Hok Yau wished Chi Wai good health and bringing more joy to everyone. Sheh Si Man donated money to charity as Chi Wai asked and hoped to go on a vacation together. Wong Cho Nam revealed that Li Yanan already crashed a car on the way over. Luckily they were fine. * (2013/04/15) DaDa Chan Jing with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress. She and Chapman To Man Jat and Ronald Cheng Chung Kei attended the celebration. DaDa during her interview was still reluctant to part with her award. As for Andy Lau Tak Wa's encouragement that her future was bright, she excitedly said that Wa Jai was her idol since her childhood and his words were very meaningful to her. DaDa said that before the race many friends picked her, which added to her pressure. Several friends accompanied her like it was her wedding, as they felt that the day of this award was even more important than her future wedding. She said that she would not put away her chest, the award was an encouragement and she would do her part. Chapman To Man Jat did not win Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor at the Hong Kong Film Award. He was not disappointed and even attended VULGARIA and Emperor's celebrations. He said, "This year I have the chance to participate and was nominated with my idol (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai, I am already very happy." Ah Jat learned that Wai Jai praised his acting as being more and more confident, he said in appreciation. "Thank you for praising me, it's more important than any honor. My wordless appreciation!" As for losing to Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Ah Jat said that Cheng Chung Kei's position in comedy was higher than his, but was willing to slum in VULGARIA and play support. A good person gets the reward he deserves. "Seeing his emotional speech on the stage, He was very sentimental. No one should deny his hard work because he is a rich kid. This time he truly has avenged himself!" Anthony Wong Chau Sun gave him "mutual encouragement" on the stage. Ah Jat joked, "His position is higher than mine, mutual encouragement with him is my honor." Chau Sun joins Emperor and is his co-worker. Ah Jat said that he congratulated the company for getting Chau Sun to join. Jackie Chan with CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) won Best Action Choreography. He attended the Emperor celebration with Wong Chau Sun, Leo Ku Kui Ke and others. Ku Kui Ke lost Best Original Film Song to Jacky Cheung Hok Yau. He said that Hok Yau was an elder, and he was already very happy to be nominated. He was even more nervous than attending music awards. He revealed that he will play a cop in a movie soon so he has been working out. * (2013/04/15) Wai Ying Hung earlier worked on her new film WINTER IS HOPED in Korea with Korean actors Jo Han-Sun. They played a family of three in a car crash. During the shoot the weather was unstable with rain, snow and often strong wind. Wai Ying Hung lay on the roadside in her flimsy costume and was very professional. South and North Korea recently have had friction. Wai Ying Hung admitted that she once asked her sister to return to Hong Kong first. In case anything happened to her she still had family to handle her will, but her sister insisted on staying. They could only pack up important items while resting at the hotel in case they had to flee in an emergency. * (2013/04/15) Shine yesterday attended the 15th Hong Kong secondary school cooking contest. Shine in May will work on the Fruit Chan Gor directed online novel film adaptation. Speaking of asking Isabella Leong Lok Si to return as the lead actress, they said that they still have not received the script and many actors have not been cast. * (2013/04/14) The 32nd Hong Kong Film Award took place last night at the Cultural Center. Tony Leung Ka Fai with COLD WAR won his fourth Best Actor while Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) won her first Best Actress. With 12 nominations COLD WAR won 9 awards to become the big winner, including the majors awards like Best Picture and Best Director. It tied COMRADES ALMOST A LOVE STORY (TIM MUK MUK)'s record. Also with 12 nominations THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) got a goose egg. Leung Ka Fai with REIGN BEHIND A CURTAIN (SHUI LIM TING JING), LEGENDARY LA ROSE NOIR (92 HAK MUI GWAI DUI HAK MUI GWAI), and ELECTION (HAK SEH WUI) won Best Actor. Last night as the favorite with COLD WAR he won his fourth, defeating Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Chapman To Man Jat. Leung Ka Fai gave a loving kiss to his wife. When he accepted the award he said, "The cast made COLD WAR, made my deputy police commissioner Lee Sir." When Leung Ka Fai saluted, he was so emotional that he was choked up with tears. "Thank you family, parents, little sister. Two daughters say I have to thank them because they saw COLD WAR 4 times, in addition they brought 20 classmates with them and paid for them, in the future I would have to put an effort into making money and helping out. Will I get a raise? (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun said after winning the Best Actor would have 3 years of bad luck. I will support Hong Kong film and continue to make movies with a very competitive rate." Aside from thanking filmmakers, he also joked that he would thank his wife at home later. He also jumped for joy. Best Actor award guest presenter Anthony Wong Chau Sun also had fun at the expense of Best Actor nominee Chapman To Man Jat. Earlier they were rumored to be at odds, thus he caused a lot of laughter. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa with LOVE IN THE BUFF won her first Best Actress, defeating strong opponents like Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Zhou Xun. She first hug her husband Real Ting Chi Go. When she reached the stage to accept her award she was already in tears. "I am so scared! I am dead! Thank you to every voter, I never thought about having this chance. Thank you Pang Ho Cheung. I heard that I was a second choice, thank him for trusting me to play the older woman, young man romance. Actually my psychological pressure was huge. Thank you (Peter) Lam Kin Ngok for giving me the employment opportunity, thank you all of the directors who I have worked with. They are all my teachers and accept me when I didn't perform well." The 4 time Best Actor nominee Sammi was obviously disappointed but still graciously smiled and applauded. Chin Wa during the interview said that she forgot to thank "Jimmy Cheung" Shawn Yue Man Lok. "After getting on the stage my mind went blank. Actually after several decades I still would be very scared. My hubby was afraid that I would be very disappointing if I didn't win, so two weeks ago he already started to brainwash me. He is very lovable and knows how to keep my feelings in mind. My hubby truly was really emotional, even when he proposed he wasn't so emotional!" DaDa Chan Jing with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) won Best Supporting Actress. When she accepted the award she was sobbing out of control. "I never thought about winning. I am someone who is without a dream, but as long as you work hard you would be able to find your own direction and value." DaDa during her interview remained emotional. "I thought my co-star (Susan) Shaw Yam Yam would win. I won only because the character was good. Thank you Director Pang Ho Cheung for daringly casting me." She joked that at that moment she wanted to drink and was prepared to get drunk. The 65 year old Alex Tsui Ka Kit with COLD WAR won Best New Performer and became the oldest new actor winner. He said, "Thank you to my parents for giving me so much knowledge, so I can at the right time make so many choices. This award is very heavy, I wouldn't be so happy that I would sleep with it, I would treat it like a decorative piece." He in his speech thanked the production team and the Hong Kong audience for bringing him on the incredible journey of the Hong Kong Film Award. He also thanked his late parents. He also said that over 28 years he has played many good roles but his acting was no match for the former Chief Executive, when he worked at the Independent Commission Against Corruption he studied 40 years of kung fu. He joked that he wanted to be the grand master but not in Wing Chun sticking hand, but his wife holding out her hand. Although he often did what he should not like jumping around the ring like he was 18 but he still rather enjoyed it. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing presented the Best Director award and his film COLD WAR's directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching won their first awards. The film won 9 awards and became this year's big winner. All three were very happy, the directors even gave a special thanks for the "commissioner" Sing Sing and led to a wave of laughter. Jackie Chan with CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) defeated senior colleague Sammo Hung Kam Bo and Chin Kar Lok to win Best Action Choreography. He said, "I would share this award with Sammo and Kar Lok. We are a family, it doesn't matter who wins the award. This time is my 8th Best Action Choreography award." When Tsang Chi Wai and Chrissie Chau Sau Na presented the award, Chi Wai poked fun at Chau Sau Na's figure. The Feng Xiaogang directed 1942 won the Best Mainland China and Taiwan film. Zhang Guoli and Xu Fan during the interview expressed their joy. Xu Fan said, "This is a recognition of work, even if I didn't win I still would properly work and remain firm with my beliefs." She joked that the mobile phone signal was very weak so she has not called her husband Feng Xiaogang. To Man Jat this year was nominated for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor but unfortunately did not win either. Ronald Cheng Chung Kei received the Best Supporting Actor Award from old flame Yeung Chin Wa. He emotionally broke down. Before the presentation, Cheung Ka Fai made up of Chin Wa, "One of (the nominees) was your......" Chin Wa who looked embarrassed could only stare at Cheng Chung Kei and greet him. "Hi! How are you? I haven't seen you in awhile. Congratulations on having a daughter!" When Cheung Ka Fai announced the winner and joked, "This one......whenever he's at a large scale press conference (divorce announcement with Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin) he would cry, why don't you read it!" Chin Wa took over and read Cheng Chung Kei's name, but during the presentation they kept their distance. Chin Wa reached out to shake hands and present the award, then immediately stood in the back. When Cheng Chung Kei gave his speech he emotionally broke down. "When I started I gave people an impression that wasn't too good. Because my father was a record company boss, I thought I was great just from singing a few songs. I didn't disappoint anyone either, constantly getting into trouble. Luckily I ran into many people who loved me. On my first day on the set I was late because I was in court for drunk drinking and again disappointing people. Mr. (Andy) Lau Tak Wa told me 'when the prodigal son returns it's more valuable than gold'. I became determined to stop singing and went to make movies, starting from zero. I learned to persist, today this award is the Hong Kong film industry's start to accept me. Thank you Parents for never giving up on me, I would give this award to my Old Lady and daughter." His wife Sammie Yu Sze man was moved to tears. Fellow Best Supporting Actor nominee Gordon Lam Ka Tung was one of the hosts. When Cheng Chung Kei was announced the camera captured Lam Ka Tung's disappointment. Eric Tsang Chi Wai even asked how he felt about his defeat. Ka Tung said, "I want to vomit, the pressure is so enormous that I want to leave......after I took (the hosting job) I found out that I was nominated. I really had enough." Zhang Guoli also expressed his sympathy for Lam Ka Tung later. Former Best Supporting Actor Lo Hoi Pang has always loved a good gag. He joked that he did not understand why he was arranged to present the Best Visual Effects and Best Sound awards, thinking that those two awards did not have much to do with him. "I mix acting, not sound". Brother Pang later gave a golden explanation. "Maybe I am always saying 'Lo Hoi Pang Mic Check', people think I am very demanding with sound quality. As the saying goes if the mic check goes well then it's nominations and awards, if the mic check goes bad then it's time to find your mother!" Some applauded and cracked up in the audience, To Man Jat widened his eyes and left his mouth wide open. Host Eric Tsang Chi Wai during the commercial break praised Brother Pang for his guts. "What we say behind the scene, Brother Pang says in front of the camera." Andrew Lau Wai Keung and Gigi Leung Wing Kei presented Best Supporting Actress, but he brought up the newlywed Dior Cheng Yi Kin. As soon as he opened his mouth he said, "Recently got married!" Gigi's wedding was in 2011 so actually it was not considered recent but she replied, "Right!" Lau Wai Keung followed up and said that he was referring to Ekin's wedding, Gigi was stunned then asked, "You are really talking about this?" Lau Wai Keung apologized to Ekin and added that everything he said was "according to the script". In memory of the film industry elders who passed away this year like Jacqueline Law Wai Guen, Joe Cheng Cho, Austin Wai Tin Chi and Kong Ngai, the event showed videos of their past work with music from the orchestra. In addition, Jacky Cheung Hok yau who happily won the Best Original Film Song performed his THE LAST TYCOON (DAI SEUNG HOI) theme song CONSTANT TURMOIL. Singers Leo Ku Kui Ke, Mag Lam Yun Tung and others also performed their nominated film songs. Anthony Wong Yiu Ming also worked with the orchestra and performed many Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing and Anita Mui Yim Fong classic film theme songs from FAREWELL TO MY CONCUBINE and ROUGE among others. Female stars competed provocatively and extravagantly on the red carpet. Icy Wong Yuen Man, Chrissie Chau Sau Na and DaDa Chan Jing were the sexiest. Best Actress nominee Miriam Yeung Chin Wa appeared in a low cut red dress. Fellow Best Actress nominee Sammi Cheng Sau Man all wrapped up in a white lace transparent Valentino retro evening gown, making her more elegant and mesmerizing. She also got a head start and with Lau Ching Wan won Best Dressed. The buxom Carina Lau Ka Ling won a conservative red Valentino evening gown and tightly held her husband Tony Leung Chiu Wai's hand at their appearance. Ka Ling did not show off her figure but her elegance, wearing almost HK$100 million worth of Cartier high class jewelry line diamond jewelry, just the perfect platinum diamond ring was 22 karat. Husband and wife red carpet teams also included Lau Ching Wan and Amy Kwok Oi Ming, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Real Ting Chi Go, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and Sammie Yu Sze Man, and Alex Man Chi Leung's family of three. Glittering throughout the venue Ka Ling was dressed like a red pocket, was she trying to be lucky for Wai Jai to win? She said, "When I wore black and white, he still won." She admitted that she was biased and picked Wai Jai to win Best Actor. Wai Jai was in great spirits and agreed with Ka Ling, "She is always picking me to win an award. However, Everyone of this year's competition is a good actor, I especially like (Tony) Leung Ka Fai and (Chapman) To Man Jat." yet someone criticized Ah Jat for being vulgar? Wai Jai said that it was a problem with the film's subject, not the actor; he also praised Ching Wan for performing well. Wai Jai humbly said, "I didn't perform as well as they did. This time I don't have a chance." This year female stars loved to wear white evening gowns, including Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam, Mainland Best New Performer nominees of CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) Zhang Lanxin and THE LAST TYCOON (DAI SEUNG HOI) Joyce Feng Wenjuan, Mag Lam Yun Tung, Krystal Tin Yui and Mavis Fan Hsiao Shuan. Kong Yeuk Lam also tripped when she took the stairs, luckily the crew caught her in time. She said, "I have never wore 7 inch high heels, I really was a little frightened." Without a nomination this year Lau Tak Wa appeared to be relaxed, but he was busy taking care of two important women. After walking the red carpet with Sammi Cheng Sau Man, he immediately turned around to pick up "Mama" Deanie Ip Man Han. Ip Man Han pointed out that Sammi was very fit because she runs 10 kilometers everyday and only eats an apple a day. Sammi was so happy about Ip Tak Han's compliment that she looked self confident. Afer she turned for the media to take pictures she joked, "It's not an apple a day, it should be two slices of orange a day." Wa Jai joked that he has two cows a day. Korean star Choi Si-Won had support from a big group of fans. As he walked the red carpet they chanted and sang for their idol. Chau Sau Na, Wong Yuen Man, DaDa and Janice Man all went without a bra. Looking smaller DaDa explained that without support she did not have the push up feeling. Janice Man also had the same explanation. Although she was made fun of for being flat chested, she did not mind. Chau Sau Na took all the safety precautions and was not afraid of any wardrobe malfunction; Wong Yuen Man on the other hand was and added straps. Gigi Leung Wing Kei last night wore the Gucci sponsored global exclusive evening gown as the guest presenter. The plump Gigi was continued to be rumored as pregnant. However, Gigi said that she only gained weight and was not pregnant. Because in May she will have to work on the Pang Ho Cheung directed film, she needed to lose another 10 pounds to return to her shape in her 20s. The film will take around 2 months to make, thus she would at least have to wait until the middle of the year to get pregnant. Her husband has been very understanding and let her work first. She even hoped to have a chance to be nominated in the future, then she will walk the red carpet with her husband. Man Chi Leung with THE BOUNTY (YUEN HUNG) was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Last night he attended with his wife and son. Their father and son bow tie and suit looked sharp! On the red carpet before winning an award he first won family love. In a Gucci evening gown, Janet Ma Sze Wai and her older daughter Wong Man Hei made an appearance. Her daughter inherited her mother's height and the mother and daughter both wore black evening gowns and walked hand in hand. At a glance they looked like sexy twins. Nick Cheung Ka Fai last night walked the red carpet alone, but because recently a magazine claimed that Cheung Ka Fai was upset at his wife Esther Kwan Wing Ho for only caring about her television series work and neglecting their daughter, thus he banned her from making another series. Last night would the lack of Kwan Wing Ho in his company fuel the speculation further? Cheung Ka Fai said that because his wife went on location in Foshan she was unable to accompany him. He stressed that he has never interfered with her work. In addition their daughter was already grown. Instead he hoped that she would take a break after her series and take her time with script selection. At the same time with the Mainland pandemic he worried about her health. Thus he already often asked her to pay attention to her hygiene. Although Susan Shaw Yam Yam did not win Best Supporting Actress, she was just as happy about co-star Chan Jing's victory. She also respected the event very much, yesterday she appeared in a film hairstyle. She said that because last night's theme was a farewell to film she deliberately used film as hair accessory and a sign of respect. At the same time she had the VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) polished on her nails to cheer the film on. * (2013/04/14) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa earlier went to the hospital for fibroid removal. Yesterday she returned to work. She first attended a Radio Hong Kong event and at night she attended the Hong Kong Film Award to compete for Best Actress and present an award. Chin Wa yesterday wore ELIE SAAB low cut red dress and walked the red carpet. Her husband Real Ting Chi Go held her hand tightly; Chin Wa was not worried about wardrobe malfunction and joked that she already showed a "point", the beauty mark on her chest. She revealed that her son would mistake it for dirt and often tried to pull it off. She would only say it hurt. Did her husband approve her dress? She said that he took a look and felt that it was fine. He only worried that she could not support the dress and embarrass herself. Yesterday Chin Wa attended a Radio Hong Kong event. Although after the surgery she took time off to rest, she still looked tired; she gave birth to her son Torres last June and the recent operation took a lot out of her. Chin Wa said that the operation was not anything serious, just a fibroid removal. When she was carrying Torres she already noticed the problem, thus she was very worried. She said that fibroid was a problem that many women had, hers just had more quantity and size. After the operation her health was okay, but two operations in a year left her exhausted and she need time to rest. Did she have the operation to have more children? She joked that she would have to first renovate her home first. As for having another child, she would have to wait until after half a year before trying again because in mid May she will have to work on a movie. After this year she will try again. Her husband Real Ting Chi Ko wanted to have a Year of the Horse baby. Chin Wa said that babies do not just come when she wanted one. Although she had the intention and the effort she still needed luck. She had to try for awhile before Torres. She even thought about giving up and had to wait to be blessed by Heaven. Chin Wa last night was a guest presenter, she was rumored to present Best Supporting actor. The favorite for the award was her old flame Ronald Cheng Chung Kei. Chin Wa said that she did not know which award it would be. Even if she had to present an award to Cheng Chung Kei she would not be embarrassed and he should be very happy as well. Would she like Cheng Chung Kei to win? Chin Wa said, "You should ask his wife this question." Chin Wa was resting but could not stop taking care of her son. Earlier she personally went grocery shopping at the supermarket. She said that giving her son food was very important. She had to get up early to shop at the supermarket. * (2013/04/13) The 32nd Hong Kong Film Award will take place tonight at the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Center. On the eve of the event, Best Actor and Best Actress nominees are of course nervous. This year's Best Actor competition reportedly was not considered too fierce. Although Nick Cheung Kai's NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) performance was decent, the three time Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor Tony Leung Ka Fai had better chances. Thus he would have a chance to win his four Best Actor with COLD WAR (HONG JIN). As for Best Actor, because the nominees aside from Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam were not nominated with their best work the competition has been intense. How Miriam Yeung Chin Wa had better odds. Zhou Xun announced her absence in advance and dropped a variety of hints that she would not win Best Actress this year. With her outstanding performance in Universe's LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) Kong Yeuk Lam was not too confident. On numerous occasions she stated that the nomination was already a victory. However earlier she still went clothes shopping with her assistant as she prepared to dress up for tonight's event. Cheng Chung Kei last year with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) won the Golden Horse Best Supporting Actor but tonight he will run into strong competition. Reportedly during the first round of Hong Kong Film Award voting, Gordon Lam Ka Tung with COLD WAR received the most votes. Yet in the second round voting Cheng Chung Kei caught up so he should have a chance to win again. As for Best Supporting Actress, due to Susan Shaw Yam Yam's fortune with people, she received many friendly votes. Thus she had a chance to win again after THE PYE DOG (YEH LEUNG HUEN) and GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI). Mainland actress Feng Wenjuan with the film THE LAST TYCOON (DAI SEUNG HOI) is nominated for Best New Performer. In the film she had a passionate kiss with Huang Xiaoming and became the envy of many female fans. Feng Wenjuan came to Hong Kong a few days early to find a dress. She appreciated "Big Brother Sponge" who called her to encourage her after the nomination but she was not under the spell of his electrifying eyes. "Big Brother Xiaoming's professionalism and character handling could very easily bring his co-stars into characters. He indeed had charm but I only fell in love with him in the film." Feng Wenjuan gave Huang Xiaoming her first on screen kiss, which was directors Andrew Lau Wai Keung and Wong Jing's last minute addition and made her very nervous. Luckily Xiaoming cooked up rotten gags to help her relax. She said, "Big Brother Xiaoming was very patient and would tell many cold jokes to relax me, closing the distance between us. He even joked that I was very lucky because my first onscreen kiss partner was him." This year the Hong Kong Film Award second round voting added five overseas voters including Mainland actor Vicki Zhao Wei and famous director Feng Xiaogang. The second round voters went from the past 50 to 55 people, its deadline was March 26th and the votes went to the auditing firm. As for today's Hong Kong Film Award, second round voter Stephen Shiu Jr. said, "I voted for (Tony) Leung Ka Fai for Best Actor, he has not had a performance like COLD WAR. This type of performance was very acceptable to viewers. I voted for (Miriam) Yeung Chin Wa, she performed very well and it was time for her to win. I definitely would choose (Ronald) Cheng Chung Kei for Best Supporting Actor because his performance stole the show. I chose (Elaine Jin) Kam Yin Ling for Best Supporting Actress. Although she didn't have much screen time in THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN), her emotional scene performance was very thorough." Nominated for Best Supporting Actress with VULGARIA, DaDa Chan Jing last month attended the Osaka Asian Film Festival to promote the film and the local media called her the "giant breast weapon". Known for her popping candy trick in the film, DaDa also received local media praised for her very innocent performance in the film. * (2013/04/13) Taking place tonight at the Hong Kong Cultural center, the 32nd Hong Kong Film Award guest presenter lists have been partially leaked. The most paradoxical was the event arranged for Best Actor and Best Actress nominees Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Nick Cheung Ka Fai to present Best Supporting Actor, the favorite of which was the Taiwan Golden Horse Award Best Supporting Actor Ronald Cheng Chung Kei. If Cheng Chung Kei wins again as expected, his former girlfriend Chin Wa will present the award to him. However, earlier at the Hong Kong Film Award nominee program photo shoot, Cheng Chung Kei and Chin Wa were both present. Cheng Chung Kei's wife Sammie Yu Sze Man even personally supervised. Luckily when they ran into each other they had no awkwardness at all. Cheng Chung Kei and Chin Wa chatted. Conceivably if Cheng Chung Kei won, they would not have any awkward situation despite sharing the stage. Aside from Chin Wa and Cheung Ka Fai, Best Actor Anthony Wong Chau Sun will present Best Actor, Felix Chong Man Keung and Gigi Leung Wing Kei will present Best Supporting Actress, Chapman To Man Jat and Pang Ho Cheung will present Best New Director. The event this year even added the Best On Screen Couple award to Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing and Anita Mui Yim Fong who both passed away 10 years ago. The event will arrange for Anthony Wong Yiu Ming to perform their film songs. * (2013/04/13) Shu Qi two nights ago attended the Macau Sands Cotai Central one year anniversary. Speaking of rumored boyfriend Stephen Fung tak Lun, Shu Qi said that after talking about him for many years she did not want to anymore! Earlier Shu Qi demoted rumored boyfriend Fung Tak Lun to "friend" and hinted "separation" news online. Thus she was rumored to be absent from director Andrew Lau Wai Keung's earlier birthday party to deliberately dodge Fung Tak Lun. Shu Qi explained that "I talked him for several years......I don't want to anymore. I don't attend the director's birthday party every year. This year because I stayed in Taiwan for a movie I didn't go. Now my romantic status is general love, I rather enjoy my current life." Was she single and waiting for suitor? Shu Qi avoided responding directly and stressed that she was waiting for destiny. Some said happiness had to be fought for. She said, "If you meet the right person, it would naturally develop and you don't have to fight for it. If two people had cracks or arguments, then you have to fight. Like JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN)'s Ms Duan said, 'Staying forever in someone's else's heart'." Once a Golden Horse Best Actress, Shu Qi was not nominated for this year's Hong Kong Film Award, but she praised every Best Actress nominee. She said, "I only saw (Elanne) Kong Yeuk Lam's LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI). Her performance was pretty good. I haven't seen other nominees' films. However Zhou Xun has always been strong. (Miriam) Yeung Chin Wa and (Sammi) Cheng Sau Man are also decent. Everyone should have an award." Shu Qi who has won Best Actress before felt that she did not place as much importance on awards as before, when she accepted roles she was more relaxed. She felt that awards was destiny, lucky, timing, geography and people. Thus she advised the nominees that even defeats did not represent their performance was poor. Shu Qi revealed that lately she felt ill but still insisted on flying to Beijing for work. She was not too worried about the Mainland H7N9 bird flu outbreak because Mainland air and water were populated. She could not possibly reduce work out of fear. Thus she would take the basic health procedures, which would already be enough. * (2013/04/13) The Mainland film industry's annual event Huading Awards took place for the first time in Hong Kong; the award ceremony was star studded with China and Hong Kong Best Actors and Best Actresses like Jackie Chan, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Fan Bingbing; Korean superstars Lee Byung-Hun and Han Ga-In also participated. * (2013/04/12) In this year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress battle Zhou Xun has two nominations as she faces Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and film industry newcomer Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam. In terms of experience Zhou Xun of course is beyond her peer, but Yeung Chin Wa and Kong Yeuk Lam also have great chances. This year happens to be Kong Yeuk Lam's 10th year in the business, the first Best Actress award would definitely be a recognition for her and being nominated with her idol Zhou Xun was a gift. Kong Yeuk Lam signed with her management company at age 16. This year is her 10th year and finally with her excellent performance in the film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) competes for Best Actress against THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) and THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH)'s Zhou Xun, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man. Although in terms of generations Kong Yeuk Lam may not have the edge, but in terms of acting her performance has professional recognition. Kong Yeuk Lam admitted that she was still learning and was not qualified to critique other nominees. Yet Zhou Xun was her idol. She said, "Zhou Xun is academia style and full of acting experience, her acting is beyond anyone's doubt. she actually is my most important idol. Among actresses I worship her the most. Her acting is magical in front of the camera, every look and expression in the film have great flavor and are very attractive." The outside felt Yeung Chin Wa's comedy performance was especially outstanding. Kong Yeuk Lam said, "I admire Yeung Chin Wa, because not only in comedy she has a lot of flavor in a variety of films. Her laughter and tears both are very influential." Among her competition, Kong Yeuk Lam has the least experience. The outside pointed out that this was her obstacle to Best Actress. She said, "Confidence comes from every professional voter's recognition, which gives me the chance to be nominated. The nomination to me is already an award. I never thought about any reward from this film. My past work has been mostly young people ensemble films. I can say my learning stage was in the past, then in LOVE I demonstrated everything that I have learned all at once. I only hope that this film can make the outside recognize me. I never thought about the award. So when you ask me if I feel any regret, there is no loss in existence. I can only say that I already received my reward. I thank every voter very much." Best Actress Nominations Zhou Xun (THE GREAT MAGICIAN) Zhou Xun (THE SILENT WAR) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa (LOVE IN THE BUFF) Sammi Cheng Sau Man (ROMANCING IN THIN AIR) Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam (LOVE LIFTING) Dante Lam Chiu Yin actually is the "Nick Cheung Ka Fai of the director world". Back then when he and master Gordon Chan Ka Seung worked together on BEAST COPS (YEH SAU YING GAING), which won him the Hong Kong Film Award Best Director. However afterward he did not achieved fame and fortune. "I ran into the industry depression. Almost after a year I started to work again. " The situation was just like Ka Fai after becoming Best Actor had no film and was "reduced" to a street vendor. No wonder he tried again this year as he was nominated for Best Director with the film THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN). With high odds he admitted, "As a commercial film director, the most important is just the box office." Director Lam admitted that he was at peace with the results due to the strong competition. "The world has no guaranteed win. Sometimes things are really about time, places and people. For example the sudden topic of protecting Hong Kong film dignity, this type of films may be at more of an advantage." After the Pang Brothers have a stable footing in the film industry, co-directors have appeared in recent years like Stephen Chow Sing Chi and Derek Kwok Chi Kin and the COLD WAR Hong Kong Film Award Best Director nominees Sunny Luk Kim Ching and Longman Leung Lok Man. As for the joint director trend, Luk Kim Ching stated that he and his partner Lok Man have different views on film but similar concepts. He even said, "Everyone can divide up the work, like Lok Man's art is better so he mainly handles it. I am managing funding and personnel, which I will continue in the future." Once as an assistant director he admitted that the director chair gave him pressure. In comparison he would be more familiar with its operation within. When asked about his first film's good review, did he have a shot of confidence? He said, "Yes, I can't go back. No one is a factory director. Instead they would spend time to create a story." Speaking of the competition this year, Luk Kim Ching said that he was honored to be nominated with them. He even revealed that he picked Law Chi Leung and Soi Cheang Pou-Soi. Everyone praised their enthusiasm for film. Best Director Nominations Soi Cheang Pou-Soi (MOTORWAY) Pang Ho Cheung (LOVE IN THE BUFF) Law Chi Leung (THE BULLET VANISHES) Dante Lam Chiu Yin (THE VIRAL FACTOR) Longman Leung Lok Man, Sunny Luk Kim Ching (COLD WAR) * (2013/04/12) Simon Yam Tat Wa in the Law Sau Yiu directed THE CONSTABLE (GAING JEUNG) played a police captain. Brother Wa said that in his film career at first he mostly had the crook, then the maniac, in recent years he played law enforcement more. In Johnnie To Kei Fung's films alone he has played a cop, a firefighter, and a police captain. Earlier Brother Wa worked on a street gun fight scene for THE CONSTABLE with Sam Lee Chan Sam, Ken Low Wai Kwong and others. To him it had zero degree of difficulty. "It was extremely easy, raise my arm, turn left, turn right, ouch! Done." During the break, his daughter Ella called. This good father lowered his voice and was extremely gentle. Ella of course has seen his work and him in gun fights and getting hit. "She is very smart, she knows it's fake. She even comforts Mommy, 'don't be afraid, it's fake, Papa is acting.'" Brother Wa said that Ella had a great memory. After watching his film with Sandra Ng Kwan Yu. Once she saw Kwan Yu and remembered that "Sister" worked with Papa before, but Brother Wa was the most worried that Ella would be afraid of the media. "Both of us are in the entertainment business, we are used to facing the camera. Our daughter frowns when someone takes her picture. I can't do anything about that either." * (2013/04/12) Kabby Hui Nga Ting and Dominic Ho Ho man in the new film WHAT'S UP GIRL (MEI GAU SIU NUI) had bed scenes. Kabby revealed that she had passion scenes. Did she want to take over Chrissie Chau Sau Na's sex goddess position? She said, "I wouldn't dare, but of course I want to perform as well as she has." Dominic denied the breakup rumor with Kandy Wong but admitted that they would occasionally argue. "Sometimes when I have intimate scenes with female co-stars, the girlfriend being upset is normal and I would understand." Have they reached the edge of a breakup? He said, "Of course not, we are on the edge of hot romance. (Marriage?) Let me ask the newlywed Sebastian about the secret of being married first and learn how to achieve happiness." * (2013/04/12) The 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards will take place tomorrow night at the Cultural Center. COLD WAR (HONG JING) has the best chance at winning Best Picture and Best Director will be a battle between COLD WAR and THE VIRAL FACTOR. Because the film industry has already entered the digital age and replaced film productions, the event this year has a theme that saluted film. Thus the program also had a film design, inviting on and off camera talent including nominated directors, Best Actors and Best Actresses to discuss making movies with a film camera in details. Best Picture and Best Director categories this year have strong competitions, but many like Andrew Lau Wai Keung, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Felix Chong Man Keung all picked COLD WAR to win Best Picture, citing that COLD WAR was very complete and well rounded. Lau Wai Keung said, "The film is made with a lot of details, many compare it to INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) but actually they are different. They are only similar in spirit. Every plot in COLD WAR is very well connected, the actors are outstanding in particular Sing Sing (Aaron Kwok Fu Sing). I watched it twice. Sing Sing's performance has always had quality, this time he has a lot inside. I really like the performance from within, it isn't superficial. Sing Sing performed very well, so I felt bad for him when he wasn't nominated for Best Actor." Best Director was a war between COLD WAR and THE VIRAL FACTOR. COLD due to its commercial and critical success brought attention to two new directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching. However Dante Lam Chiu Yin with THE VIRAL FACTOR earlier already won Best Director at the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award. However, Pang Ho Cheung's LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) led to such a humongous response and should not be overlooked either. Yesterday the Hong Kong Film Award Association chair Gordon Chan Ka Seung and hosts Gordon Lam Ka Tung and Jerry Lamb Hiu Tung attended the worship ceremony. The other two hosts Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Ronald Cheng Chung Kei were absent. Also a director, Chan Ka Seung mentioned that film as a filmmaking format has already sunset. "DRUG WAR (DUK JIN), THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) are the final ones that were made with film. Director To Kei Fung said that he would buy the last batch of film. The Hong Kong film production era has passed. We used to work for film, which would be worth talking about all night at the award show." He said that this year the award received HK$5 million full funding production assistant from the government. TVB, now TV and Radio 2 Hong Kong will broadcast the show live simultaneously. As for guest presenters, Korean star Choi Si-Won, Jackie Chan, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau Ka Ling, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, director Wong Kar Wai, former Golden Harvest boss Raymond Chow Man Wai, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Lo Hoi Peng, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Alex Man Chi Leung, Taiwan director Giddens Ko and others. Jacky Cheung Hok Yau, Anthony Wong Yiu Ming, Leo Ku Kui Ke, and Mag Lam Yun Tung will be guest performers. Wong Yiu Ming will perform a salute to superstar Leslie Cheung Kwok for the 10th anniversary of his passing. Lam Ka Tung was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and also the host. He said that he picked his fellow host Cheng Chung Kei to win, the pressure came from wanting to do a good job with hosting. Lam Hiu Fung joked, "I don't have any nomination, I am very relaxed. Watching Lam Ka Tung and Cheng Chung Kei in a fierce competition, their wanting to laugh but unable to looks are the most entertaining. * (2013/04/12) Andy Lau Tak Wa two nights ago at the 9th Huading Award again presented the Achievement of the Year award to "Mama" Deanie IP Tak Han. He who always remained silent about his family was asked about his family and his wife. Wa Jai responded to everything loudly in Putonghua, "You can't ask about this." After the show he stood firm as he was interviewed with Ip Tak Han. Speaking of Wa Jai's father having a less than close relationship with his daughter in law, he again smiled and said in Putonghua, "You can't ask about this." Then he looked serious and stressed in Cantonese, "I am truly very happy, everyone relax! We are truly very happy, I don't want to talk too much about family." Was his family harmonious? He immediately said, "It's actually happy!" Wa Jai at the award show revealed that Ip Tak Han years ago argued with someone because he was not nominated for an award. Ip Man Tak Han said that back then she indeed argued frequently for Wa Jai, but she already forgot with who. She said, "I am not just happy for Wa Jai because he won an award. First, I am already very happy to know such a man, because this child is rare in the world. Actually as a Mama who doesn't want to have a son like Lau Tak Wa. No matter what he does he reaches positive energy for himself and others. I am not playing favorites because he is handsome, he truly is a good man. Wouldn't you love this one!" Wa Jai only awkwardly said that he had nothing to add. He pointed out that all Mamas think this way, even his own mother said that to others all the time and embarrassed him. As for the first Top Ten Chinese Film survey two days ago announced its 15 film industry committee members from the Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. From 21 films they selected Taiwan's WARRIOR OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE as the top film. In second place was the Hong Kong film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH), in third was the Mainland film BEIJING BLUES, in fourth was LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLES (DUET MING GUM). The awards will be presented in mid May in Anhui. * (2013/04/12) Two time Golden Horse Best Actors Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and 7 time Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai do not have to be in a deadly rivalry when they get together. They can be win win and be CONSPIRATORS (TUNG MAU) together! Sing Sing after the Oxide Pang Shun directed THE DETECTIVE (C+ JING TAM), THE DETECTIVE II (B+ JING TAM) recently in the final chapter CONSPIRATORS (former title A+ JING TAM) turned into the Thai detective Tam, who with the newly added Malaysia detective Cheung Ka Fai teamed up to investigate a murder. Despite working together for the first time, they admired each other. Privately they had common friends and loved for sports cars. They were friends who could talk about anything. A: Kwok Fu Sing, N: Cheung Ka Fai, R: Reporter R: You both love super sports cars. When you worked together on the movie did you have a lot of common topics? A: We talked about cars, but I told Ka Fai not to drive fast. Buying a super sports car was not a problem, but everyday it should be driven at 70 kmph. Safety first, hahaha! We both agree that the other is a friend that we can talk to, privately we can talk about anything and everything. We also have common friends. During the Lunar New Year we just dined with Shum Ka Wai (I.T. fashion boss and Chingmy Yau Suk Ching's husband) and Anna Ueyama. Actually the world is very small, but Ka Fai and I don't run into each other often. Maybe because of his family he isn't very active. He is a responsible person with family concept. N: Sing Sing told me, he regretted to have this addiction very much having bought so many expensive cars, hahaha! Exchange Pleasantries, Pleasant Collaboration A: It's all Ka Wai's fault, hahaha, Ka Wai is very wealthy, now he even got (Shawn) Yue Man Lok into it. N: I deliberately didn't rat on Ka Wai, but you had to rat on Ka Wai, hahaha! Sing Sing and I already knew each other before we worked together, but during the shoot Sing Sing was a very serious and hard working actor. Another pleasant surprise was that he took great care of his co-star. I am very afraid of rats and cockroaches. While shooting on location in Thailand, Sing Sing drove them away for me without scaring me and tricking me. His singing is already great. He is a king of the dance stage, what reason does he have to compete for a living in the film industry? It's so unfair, he is really greedy, hahaha! A: Ka Fai is very funny, even his serious expression is funny. His acting is great. Before the shoot he did all his homework, when he arrived at the set everything went very smoothly. So our collaboration was very pleasant. Dangerous Scene, Sing Sing Hurts His Back R: Both are Best Actors, did you have any pressure from competing in acting? N: Collaboration is about exchange, not a fight in the ring or anything individual. A: Right, film production is about collaboration. N: However, in the film many of our scenes together had a lot of sparks. In the film we went from strangers to investigating a case together, speculating about the other and arguing, also because of the argument we became an united front, the process was pretty explosive; in particular during the argument scene rain kept coming down and we were afraid that we couldn't finish. Thus everyone was very focused. A: The film also had many action scenes, we each had our share. Ka Fai in the film played the Malaysia detective who knew how to fist fight, like alternative Wing Chun he could challenge (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun, (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai, even (Donnie) Yen Chi Tan would be afraid just from seeing it, hahaha! My action was dangerous, I had to jump from a three story high elevated train tracks to the street food stall below. I had to complete it in one take so it was highly difficult; in one scene the reactionary bullets were too strong, I felt like I was shot. The reactionary bullets left my back all red. I had to rest for a few minutes before shooting again. Actually it was very dangerous, if they blew up a second sooner they might have injured the eyes and the skin. Also a large truck crashed into my car, we had to be very careful when we tested the mark, otherwise we would have been crushed. Light Character Went To Ka Fai R: Sing Sing, you played the same character in all three films of THE DETECTIVE series, did you feel bored? A: Playing the character with changes actually is very hard. In addition it has been over a year or two years since the last film, I had to dig back up a lot of the character's pieces. It took a lot of effort. Also I had a connection with it. Because when Pang Shun wrote the script back then we haven't worked together yet. Due to friends we have dined together before. He thought that I had a cute sense of comedy at certain moments so he magnified it in the character, which became Detective Tam. R: Ka Fai, this film extends from the lead, Sing Sing's character Detective Tam. At first were you worried that your character would become a supporting role and consider turning this film down? N: I instead looked at the script. When I knew that I could work with director Pang Shun and Kwok Fu Sing, I also considered that I have never played the detective genre; the character was lighter as well, so I had great interest. Thus I decided to accept this film. I also calculated that in recent years my movies were heavier, this time was a good chance for a change. * (2013/04/12) Charlie Yeung Choi Nei yesterday attended a costume brand press conference. She said that earlier because she worked behind the scene when she directed her first film CHRISTMAS ROSE (SING DAN MUI GWAI), she did not use make up or bother with skin care. Later she had to make a movie and attend different events so she had to maintain herself. She preferred quality over quantity with skin care products and she was rather faithful. Aside from skin care, she also kept up with sports, meditation and swimming. "Everyday I would meditate for 30 minutes and I have maintained that for years. Swimming was when I directed CHRISTMAS I realized it was a great way to reduce stress. Thus after its completion I kept swimming." Later Yeung Choi Nei will promote CHRISTMAS in the Mainland. Was she worried about the H7N9 bird flu? Yeung Choi Nei admitted that she was worried, she could only pay attention to her diet; she never ate chicken and every time overseas she would prepare a dehumidifier that could distribute disinfectant so it could kill germs in the hotel room. * (2013/04/11) Completing its production in only 12 days, VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) has brought both fame and fortune to Chapman To Man Jat as well as a Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor visa. To be nominated with his idol Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Ah Jat felt very honored inside but at the same time felt bad for Aaron Kwok Fu Sing who was not nominated. "If he was nominated, I definitely would lose!" Due to Mainland online blast of "You can even speak Putonghua right, don't even delude yourself into meddling in Mainland film", director Pang Ho Cheung and Ah Jat decided to make an authentic Hong Kong film. VULGARIA cost HK$8.5 million and shot for less than two weeks. In return Ah Jat received unrivaled confidence and joy. He even with this film in the just past Golden Horse Award and the Saturday Hong Kong Film Award competed for Best Actor. Facing tough competition from Tony Leung Chiu Wai (THE SILENT WAR), Tony Leung Ka Fai (COLD WAR), Nick Cheung Ka Fai (NIGHTFALL) and Lau Ching Wan (THE BULLET VANISHES). In terms of generation Ah Jat seemed to be "challenging beyond his class". No wonder he stated that winning or losing was secondary, his only regret was Kwok Fu Sing was missing from the nominations! Ah Jat dared to say, "This time is really unfair to Sing Sing! I really feel he performed very well, the entire matter was very strange. If Sing Sing was nominated, I definitely would lose. Now I might not, you say I say that!" Ah Jat even joked that Sing Sing was not nominated because he was too handsome. "A good actor actually has never won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor, like back then (Leslie) Cheung Kwok Wing's HAPPY TOGETHER (CHUN GUONG JA SIT) performance was amazing but lost to THE MAD PHOENIX (NAM HOI SUP SAM LONG) at the Golden Horse. Luckily I am not handsome." Admitting to be "Leung Chiu Wai's number one fan", Ah Jat continued to speak daringly as he "criticized" his idol's acting. "Wai Jai undoubtedly is the essence of acting, but SILENT was not his representative work. If he was nominated for THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) I might as well support the show at home on the television -- there is no competition. No matter what, this time I can be nominated with my idol, it's truly an honor." Ah Jat said that as he got older, his ability to accept gain and loss was stronger. In the just passed Golden Horse Award, he went to Yilan back to Taipei and already digested the emotions from losing Best Actor; "I am a comedy actor, to be honest winning an award or not is not too important. The most important is a good box office. It's living!" Ah Jat still was proud of VULGARIA's HK$30 million box office! Best Actor Nominations Nick Cheung Ka Fai (NIGHTFALL) Chapman To Man Jat (VULGARIA) Lau Ching Wan (THE BULLET VANISHES) Tony Leung Ka Fai (COLD WAR) Tony Leung Chiu Wai (THE SILENT WAR) This year's Best Actor nominees are all heavyweights, from the five time Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai (14th, 17th, 20th, 22nd, and 24th) and the three time Best Actor Tony Leung Ka Fai (3rd, 12th and 25th) to the seven time Best Actor (28th Hong Kong Film Award, 46th Golden Horse Award, etc) and the one time Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor Lau Ching Wan (26th) Wai Jai this time put away his sorrowful eyes to play a blind person, but most of the spotlight stealing scenes were left to Zhou Xun. Thus Wai Jai would have a hard time breaking out; Ching Wan has always performed leisurely, voters might overlook him. This year's Best Actor would probably be between the two Ka Fais. Leung Ka Fai as the high ranking police officer who could be either good or evil was brilliant. Cheung Ka Fai's eyes brought to life the falsely imprisoned mute, which also had hopes to catch voters' eyes. This year's Best Picture will be between THE VIRAL FACTOR and COLD WAR. Although VULGARIA was the 2012 Hong Kong film box office champion, director Pang Ho Cheung and Chapman To Man Jat earlier just debated with Anthony Wong Chau Sun on whether "Is being vulgar Hong Kong's nucleus value". Conceivably the far beyond reach voters would not let this film have all the victories at the box office, word of mouth and awards; MOTORWAY's performance OVERALL was not outstanding. With its narrow subject it had a hard time staying with viewers outside the traffic police and racer groups; THE BULLET VANISHES lost due to its co-production status. Then only THE VIRAL FACTOR and COLD WAR are left. The former was shot on location in Jordan, the visual was in the Hollywood class and a new vision for Hong Kong film, but the latter's subject and location were both about Hong Kong. In addition it had a reflection of politics, which was perfect for the voters and the angst ridden Hong Kongers' taste. Best Picture Nominations VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) COLD WAR (HONG JIN) THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU) THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN) * (2013/04/11) Nick Cheung Ka Fai recently is in preparation for his directing debut YU LAN SUN GUNG (ULLAMBANA HOLY DEED). The lead actress has finally been confirmed to be Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau). Sum Yau in order to support Ka Fai and Hong Kong film was willing to sacrifice her break. She hoped to finish her film and television work so she would be able to join the new film at the end of May. Sum Yau in order to play her character well did all of her homework. She has already been watching classic horror films like THE EXORCIST as she tried to learn from them. Reportedly in the new film she would have many scenes that would challenge her acting like being possessed. She would need to make body movements in coordination. Thus Sum Yau has already done her homework. Aside from Sum Yau, Carrie Ng Ka Lai has also been successfully landed. Earlier Ka Fai even met with Ng Ka Lai. Ka Fai said, "Before coming she already read the script. She truly is very professional. She also tells me that she hopes that her scenes would take longer so she can be able to get into the character. She is fine with cutting them later." Ka Lai even praised Ng Ka Lai as being very well maintained as she was as beautiful as ever. * (2013/04/11) The 9th Huading Awards yesterday took place at the Kowloon Bay International Trade & Exhibition Center. As stars dressed up for the red carpet, Fan Bingbing was all wrapped up. Fan Bingbing said, "I am LV spokesmodel, I have a responsibility to wear LV clothing." Angelababy denied that she was deliberately sexy. Did she ask her boyfriend Huang Xiaoming? She only said, "I have certain ideas about what I wear." Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin was much thinner, which she said was due to diving practices. Her current weight was lower than 100 pounds, she even said to female reporters, "Give me some meat". Where would she like more meat? Ah Sa pointed at her chest. Ah Sa again denied that she was paid 2 million yuan for the diving program. "The program is for charity, I have a salary but it is all donated to build water cellars." Hins Cheung Kin Hin had two Emperor companions. Has he decided to sign with Emperor? He said, " We are still in negotiation, the details haven't been settled yet. The soonest would be the summer." Joey Yung Cho Yi returned from Shanghai sick and with a fever. Last night she still had a cough and sore throat. She said, "My home is now a pandemic area. My mother, brother and I are all sick. Because of make up I can't wear a medical mask. I can only give masks to co-workers. Boyfriend (Wilfred) Lau Ho Lung didn't take care of me. I have to be in volunteered quarantine. We haven't seen each other for a long time." Jackie Chan just celebrates his 59th birthday, which he did not make a big deal of. He only dined with friends. "Next year for the 60th birthday I will make a big deal, as big as Tsang Chi Wai's." * (2013/04/11) The 9th Huading Awards took place last night at the Kowloon Bay International Trade and Exhibition center. Nicholas Tse Ting Fung with THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) won Best Actor, Fan Bingbing with SECOND EXPOSURE won Best Actress, COLD WAR (HONG JIN) won Best Picture; Jackie Chan with CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) won Best Director and Best Film Action Direction. The film also won the Best New Comer Award; Lee Byung-Hun won the "Best Overseas Actor" award. Lau Tak Wa after kneeling to present the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress to Deanie Ip Tak Han this time only half knelt to present the "Achievement of the Year Award" to "Mama" Ip Tak Han. Tse Ting Fung with THE BULLET VANISHES won Best Actor. Ting Fung was very happy that the film brought him an award because he liked this film very much. Will he get a raise? He said, "A raise would get me yelled at, but I never say I am very expensive." As for his award presenter Siqin Gowa calling him the role model of young people, Ting Fung said that she was just being nice. He asked everyone not to say that he beat THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH)'s Tony Leung Chiu Wai. Back then when he won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor, Chow Yun Fat was also nominated. Fan Bingbing with SECOND EXPOSURE won Best Actress. She said, "I am very happy, this film is a drama. Its production cost was 20 million RMB but it made over 100 million RMB at the box office. Later I will work with the film's director again." Chapman To Man Jat with DIVA won Best Supporting Actor. Ha Ga-In and Simon Yam Tat Wa presented the award to him; Ah Jat kept flirting with Han Ga-In, calling her pretty repeatedly. Han Ga-In got shy and did not respond. Yam Tat Wa asked Han Ga-In if she had to work with Ah Jat on a movie but it was only a supporting role, she would take it? Ha Ga-In said, "No problem, as long as I can express my acting it's fine." Ah Jat also said that if he would work with Ha Ga-In he wanted to make THE GRANDMASTER 2. Because it would take several years to make, he could be with her everyday. Ah Jat said that DIVA has already brought him a second award. As the film's producer he never thought that he would win an award. How will he celebrate? He boasted, "After Saturday (The Hong Kong Film Award) first." Was he fully confident about winning Best Actor? He immediately said no. Fan Hiu Huen with THE SILENT WAR won Best Supporting Actress. Siu Huen was very surprised to win her first film award. She never imagined it but her confidence for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress has not increased. Lee Byung-Hun won Best Overseas Award. He greeted everyone in Cantonese and said in English, "I am very honored to participate in this award show, the most special is seeing my childhood idol Jackie Chan. I hope everyone would support my new film G.I. Joe 2." Huading Award was an audience word of mouth award. The awards results came from a survey of film, television, music, drama and dance fans. 9TH HUADING AWARD WINNERS Best Picture: COLD WAR Best Director: Jackie Chan (CZ12) Best Actor: Nicholas Tse Ting Fung (THE BULLET VANISHES) Best Actress: Fan Bingbing (SECOND EXPOSURE) Best Supporting Actor: Chapman To Man Jat (DIVA) Best Supporting Actress: Mavis Fan Hiu Huen (THE SILENT WAR) Most Media Popularity Actor: Wang Baoqiang Most Media Popularity Actress: Angelababy Best Newcomer: Zhang Lanxin (CZ12) Best New Director: Xu Zheng (LOST IN THAILAND) Best Screenplay: Law Chi Leung, Yeung Sin Ling (THE BULLET VANISHES) Best Film Action Direction: Jackie Chan, Ho Kwan (CZ12) Best Film Music: AS I REMEMBER (SECOND EXPOSURE) Most Media Popularity Film Song: HERO RISES (TAI CHI HERO) Best Film Production Organization: Bona Film, Emperor Motion Pictures Best Animation: KUIBA Best Micro Movie: FATHER Best Cross Media Actor: Xiao Shenyang Best Overseas Actor: Lee Byung-Hun Lifetime Achievement: Raymond Chow Man Wai Achievement of the Year: Deanie Ip Tak Han * (2013/04/11) Two comedy stars of different generations Michael Hui Koon Man and Wong Cho Nam will work together on the Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed new film DELETE (DELETE OI YUN). Earlier a press conference was held. Hui Koon Man indeed was a comedy grandmaster. Cho Nam gave him a toy hammer and said that he was a die hard Hui Koon Man fan, but Hui Koon Man played dumb. "I have Alzheimer's, what is this? How do you use it?" Cho Nam pretended to hit Hui Koon Man's head and said, "How can you not submit" to remind him that he and Sam Hui Koon Kit used it in HUI BROTHERS SHOW (SEUNG SING BO HEI). Hui Koon Man continued to play dumb. "You bring out something from several decades ago, I already forgot it." Even the quick witted Cho Nam was left with his mouth wide open. Everyone could not help but laugh but Hui Koon Man was still not laughing. Since Hui Koon Man has not made a film in a long time, why did he agree? He said, "The last one was Jackie Chan's ROB B HOOD (BO BUI GAI WAT). Actually I don't like to be an actor, I like to write, direct and star. This time I agreed to perform because of the director and Cho Nam. I have always watched Yip Lim Sum's movies and liked them very much; I have also paid attention to Cho Nam as a comedy actor." Cho Nam who normally had a lot to say became all quiet in front of his idol. He could not be happier to hear that Hui Koon Man paid attention to his performance. He kept on saying thank you thank you. Although Hui Koon Man was a comedy forefather, but he progressed with the times. When younger generations like Dayo Wong Chi Wa, Cheung Tat Ming, Wong Cho Nam and others performed stand up comedy he would attend. Hui Koon Man continued, "Cho Nam is great at comedy. He can be very wild and very outrageous, but when he has to play serious he knows how to hold back. He is in full control, his range is huge. I feel that his acting hasn't even started yet, his future has no limit. He just hasn't run into a strong film yet. I also really like Yip Lim Sum's movies. His movie can bring out a Hong Kong aura. I want to before my death cheer for Hong Kong film and make more Hong Kong films." Hui Koon Man said that the audience now is very smart and cannot be fooled. They would only settle for such a few actors who supposedly had an audience. Now no actor has box office guarantee. A film depends on whether it is entertaining or not. Thus he chose to work with Cho Nam and Yip Lim Sum. * (2013/04/11) DRUG WAR (DUK JIN) two nights ago held its Hong Kong premiere. The film was released in Mainland for a week and already made almost 100 million yuan at the box office. The Louis Koo Tin Lok's performance even received Mainland film critic praise as a representative work. He joked, "I am not dead yet!" As for the rumored box office theft of DRUG WAR by THE CHEF, THE ACTOR, THE SCOUNDREL (ticket to another movie was sold for the movie and the box office went to the film with the title on the ticket; due to different accounting rate for each film, the cinema could get more of the share) Goo Jai was upset. "If I see who steals the box office I would hit him. The case is still being investigated. I have heard about box office theft before, this time I am its actual victim." H7N9 bird flu broke out in the Mainland. Goo Jai later will promote in Tianjin. Two nights ago he returned from Shanghai. He did not feel that the pandemic was not too severe three but he still wore a medical mask. His mother even gave him a big pile of disinfectant products. Goo Jai said, "I discussed the pandemic prevention with Mainland reporters. Ordinary people's prevention knowledge has been elevated, but on my flight I ran into a class of Hong Kong elementary school students went to Shanghai for an exchange. They didn't wear medical masks." Reportedly, to target box office theft, the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television was considering the systems in the film industry peripheral to strictly control and treat the cinema box office theft behavior. So far it is full speed ahead. Some industry insiders suggested that the box office theft cinema should be closed for 90 days as a penalty or have no new cinema in two years. Gordon Lam Ka Tung with COLD WAR (HONG JIN) was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Hong Kong Film Award. He said, "The competition is strong. Master (Alex) Man Chi Leung has fire, (Ronald) Cheng Chung Kei won the Golden Horse, I guess my chance is 50/50. This year I have to host as well. I am very nervous. I am thinking about the dialogue even when I am in the shower." * (2013/04/11) Irene Wan Bik Ha two nights ago attended the film WHAT'S UP GIRL (MEI GAU SIU NUI)'s wrap banquet. She said that this production made her very sentimental because 31 years ago she made LONELY FIFTEEN (LAN MUI JAI) and her life was changed. "Back then I gave up on school and often left home. My parents were very worried. Now as a mother I realize that when children disobey parents' hearts would ache." Wan Bik Ha got teary eyed when she spoke about her mother. "My 91 year old mother has intestinal cancer and the condition is already late stage. I can't help her at all; however I have to appear optimistic. I shouldn't be unhappy in front of Mother." Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan earlier in the film HARDCORE COMEDY (CHUNG HAU MEI) played a foot masseuse and took the chance to study the business. Now she is negotiating with investors about a foot massage shop. The Mainland H7N9 pandemic has worsen. Sun Kai Kwan lightly said, "After SARS, I feel a lot in life are destined. My child's live remains the same, we still eat chicken. Yet I won't take the chance to buy more property." Carol Yeung Ngan deliberately covered up to avoid stealing the spotlight from lead Rainky Wai Yu Yui. Carol denied that she kicked out JJ Jia (Ga Hiu Sun). Wai Yu Yui said, "I don't have the ability and don't know if my figure is better than hers." She said that in May she will release a photobook and will ask the experienced Carol for advice. * (2013/04/11) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Nick Cheung Ka Fai appear on a Cable interview to promote their film CONSPIRATORS (TUNG MAU). They mutually admired each other. Sing Sing even took special care of Cheung Ka Fai. Because Cheung Ka Fai was afraid of rats and cockroaches, when they shot in back alleys and stairways, Sing Sing would take the lead and scare off the rats. Once they were shoot in a vehicle, Sing Sing was suddenly stomping hard. Actually the vehicle had cockroaches and he had to eradicate them first before they scared his co-star. Sing Sing said, "I was afraid that he would be so scared he would jump on top of the vehicle, then we couldn't make the movie." Sing Sing in the film had his share of dangerous stunts. In the scene in front he fell from the elevated track to the street food stall, he was very agile and completed it in one take. The director shot another take for insurance and also successfully completed it. Cheung Ka Fai complained that the action scenes were not dangerous enough, but the close combat was very tough. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, APRIL 14 2013, FILM WORDS CONSPIRATORS LOOKS FOR DRAMA TO PLAY The Oxide Pang Shun directed CONSPIRATORS (TUNG MAU) continues from THE DETECTIVE (C+JING TAM) and THE DETECTIVE II (B+ JING TAM). Aaron Kwok Fu Sing again played the Thai private detective who was after teh truth behind his parents' murders. This time Malaysia private detective Nick Cheung Ka Fai was added. Two "detectives" became happy rivals. The more they investigated in Southeast Asia the more danger they were in, leading to a series of chases. They even investigated to Guangzhou. This film's case and characters were very complicated, with fights and comedy as well as a lot of South Sea conventional nostalgia. Only the investigation got messier and messier, rather finding for drama to play. Kwok Fu Sing was still cool, unfortunately this character's intelligence was not strong. Cheung Ka Fai as two brothers sense of comedy was even more outstanding. (Two and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 2. APPLE DAILY, APRIL 13 2013, HONG KONG FILM AWARD SPECIAL TOPIC VULGARIA: HAPPY TO BE CHEAP Being vulgar without first discussing artistic achievement is no longer a big deal as long as it does not involve life and death. Undoubtedly this year has been the film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s year. With its low budget it was a big hit box office hit and even received numerous nominations at this year's Hong Kong Film Award. Thanks to the Art Development Council and Jia Xuanning's curved cooperation and support, this film that was released in August last year again caught attention and had a chance to become this year's Hong Kong Film Award big winner. Chapman To Man Jat as a Best Actor nominee dissects this vulgar effect. Film production, even when its focus is vulgar, cannot be "La Sai", in other words as To Man Jat said in the film "reckless, irresponsible, whatever" - HO WING NING Preserve Local Ideas The film's success, Ah Jat feels is at the same time a reflection of the times. He says, "VULGARIA is a film that reflects an age. It's not saying that Hong Kongers are vulgar, it just represents that Hong Kongers have been suppressed for too long." He cites an example and says, "In 2007 TRIVIAL MATTER (POR SI YI) also had foul language and such, it wasn't a hit. What did that represent? It represented that Hong Kongers over the past years have been pressurized a lot and truly needed a release! They have had enough, they really want some very Hong Kong movies and feels that some local stuff has to be preserved." Ah Jat admits to being vulgar, but only immature people would pretend to be high class and full of culture. "When I was very little I liked to go to the Art Center to watch art films and pretend to be deep. Because my thinking wasn't mature, I always wanted to pretend to an adult so I was like that. When I was mature mentally I no longer did that. If you ask me was I talking about Ms. Jia (Xuanning)? Ha! If you didn't mention her I almost forgot her! At first whether I have to thank her for reminding people of the movie, I don't dare to say. I just know that when I was at her age, for 50,000 bucks I would even dare to kill someone. It's just that simple." Through Jia Xuanning's curved support during the Hong Kong Film Award voting period, voter attention was more or less stirred up. In the Best Picture nominations MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU) and it became the two horses in front for the championship. Praising Sing Sing For Being Magnanimous At the full harvest of the vulgar topic, Ah Jat still traverses between the vulgar and the elegant. First with DIVA he won the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actor. Tonight again with VULGARIA he would compete for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. Speaking of his chances he makes an analogy, "If you say (Aaron) Kwok Fu Sing was nominated for Best Actor, then I wouldn't go because I know obviously I don't have a chance. Since he wasn't nominated it's all different. I would sit still and see if I have any chance to win an award!" He points out that Kwok Fu Sing's COLD WAR (HONG JING) character difficulty is not just in the character but how magnanimous he is. "When you see how show stealing co-star (Tony) Leung Ka Fai, it's very hard to hold back and not play more spotlight stealing scenes. Then the whole thing would be over. Ah Sing didn't do that, he just played his part fully. Not everyone can be as magnanimous as he was. Best Actor has to have this magnanimity. As a supporting player I know this very well. Supporting players have to steal the spotlight, if the leads can't tolerate that then they would destroy the entire film." As for his VULGARIA co-stars Ronald Cheng Chung and DaDa Chan Jing's Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress nominations, "They should have no problem. Best Picture really has to be fought for." After Casual Oppression Hong Kongers Make Movies For Release To Man Jat made VULGARIA because with LA COMEDIE HUMAINE (YUN GAN HEI KET) he attended the Udine Film Festival in Italy. Also on the trip was a famous Cantonese film era director Lung Kong. One night they had a casual chat at a restaurant and spoke about the Hong Kong film industry recent conditions. Ah Jat said, "I said to Director Lung, now Hong Kong is very pitiful. No one watches Cantonese films that we make." Originally complaining for sympathy, he received Director Lung's heart felt warning. "When I made movies everyone was making Mandarin film, only I was making Cantonese. However a lot of people watched my movies too! Cold it be that your movies aren't entertaining?" Ah Jat has always been thick skinned but even he didn't know how to respond as his face turned red. The grievance inside more or less made him determined to make a Cantonese film that people would appreciate. Witness Cantonese Power Coincidentally later director Pang Ho Cheung and Mainland director He Nian began a war of words over film copyrights and was insulted with "anyone who isn't even fluent in Putonghua isn't qualify to speak". Later they dined in the snowy and icy Beijing. Ah Jat said, "Two Hong Kong guys who are oppressed suddenly gets a strange idea out of the blue. Pang Ho Cheung said, 'Let's make a foul mouthed Cantonese film for online broadcast to show them the Cantonese power!' I said if we were making it we might as well make a movie, filmmakers of course make movies!" The success of the film somewhat surprised them. Ah Jat said, "Who is smart enough to be calculating? We purely made it to please ourselves!" VULGARIA Has A Five Way Tonight The Jia Xuanning sneezed at VULGARIA ironically is in a five way at tonight's Hong Kong Film Award. How many awards can it take away, whether the film is "narrow moral victory" will be answered. The Korean Cultural Service has previously offered up plenty of micro-budget cinema and the best in Korea’s genre offerings, but this spring, we’re combining the two – and delivering New York four of the country’s most exciting micro-budgeted action, science fiction, and horror films! It is easier for larger studios to be forced to break away from the directors’ original visions to create projects that focus on mass appeal. But these micro-budget films, financed by brave individuals rather than companies, offer creative, strange, and boundary-pushing movies that no studio in their right mind would create! We’re talking about the wildest, weirdest genre films you can imagine – from Korea’s undisputed kings of micro-budgets! Get ready for an invasion, New York City… because you’re about to go up against crazed criminals, lovelorn time travelers, brain-hungry zombies, and a pair of extraterrestrial beachwear!
