MISCELLANEOUS * (2013/02/06) Soon to be father Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) two nights ago with Deep Ng Ho Hong worked on the Emperor Motion Picture MOR GAING (DEMON COP). The film company arranged for "priests" and a group of extras to set up an altar on the West Kowloon Corridor. As soon as the director yelled action the extra cried and threw offering for the dead. Ng Yin Cho had a bandage on his forehead, carried a backpack and walked back and forth, seemingly working on the sorrowful look back at the altar; Ng Ho Hong had an arm in a cast. During the breaks they often chatted and appeared to be rather friendly. During the shoot a car accident took place but the shoot was not affected. More police officers were sent to direct traffic. * (2013/02/06) Model Ma Mia Chen Jing Yi worked on the new film GAING JEUNG (POLICE CAPTAIN, tentative title). Around 10PM, Mia and the experienced Simon Yam Tat Wa worked on location at Admiralty. In the story Mia was on her way home when two men with sunglasses chatted her up. They even attempted indecent assault. Brother Wa who was nearby immediately rescued her. When the men pushed Mia into the flower bed several times she screamed. After half a hour the director accepted a take. After the shoot Mia chatted with the crew, but her figure scared off co-star Brother Wa, who would rather walk far away. He even stretched with a light post and stood aside to watch the night scenery. Later they broke for snack. Although Brother Wa and Mia were at the same table, when Mia ate Brother Wa kept his eyes on his food and chatted with the crew. * (2013/02/06) The 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards yesterday announced its nominees in 19 category. THE BULLETS VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) and COLD WAR (HONG JIN) both received 12 nominations to lead the pack. Chapman To Man Jat with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) received his first Best Actor nomination to compete with Best Actress frequent flyers Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Lau Ching Wan; he also received a Best Supporting Actor nomination with DIVA. Leung Ka Fai with the critical and commercial hit COLD WAR was nominated for Best Actor and was considered the favorite. LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI)'s Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam surprised with her first Best Actress nomination and faced THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) and THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH)'s Zhou Xun, elders Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man were only considered outside shots. The 32nd Hong Kong Film Awards will take place on April 13th at the Cultural center. THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) was not released in time to compete, but Leung Chiu Wai still was nominated for his portrayal of a blind person in THE SILENT WAR and headed for his 6 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor. Currently at the Berlin Film Festival he calmly thanked everyone. To Man Jat will compete for both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Facing four great Hong Kong Film Award Best Actors, he felt that his chance was very slim. "I would pretend that I would be attending a party, participation counts." He earlier with DIVA won the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actor but he did not see himself as the Hong Kong Film Award favorite. Instead he picked Ronald Cheng Chung Kei to win Best Supporting Actor with VULGARIA. Lau Ching Wan was nominated for Best Actor again with THE BULLET VANISHES. He said, "BULLET received 12 nominations, I am also in the Best Actor competition. I am truly very happy but I will face it calmly." BULLET producer Derek Yee Tung Sing felt that the only flaw was Nicholas Tse Ting Fung was not nominated. LOVE LIFTING got Kong Yeuk Lam her first Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress nomination, with competition from THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MORE SHOOK SI) and THE SILENT WAR's Zhou Xun, LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING)'s Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II)'s Sammi Cheng Sau Man. Not only everyone was amazed, even she did not dare to believe it. Kong Yeuk Lam jumped with joy after receiving the good news and broke down. She said, "It truly is incredible. The nomination is already a great encouragement, it's already enough. The competition is too strong." Cheng Sau Man thanked director Johnnie To Kei Fung for his years of trust and also Wai Ka Fai and Yau Nai Hoi for their familiarity with her, witnessing her life experience and changes and writing scripts that showed her abilities. "Co-stars who know me inside out give me power, thank you lead actor (Louis) Koo Tin Lok." Chin Wa felt that everyone who liked "Cherie" was the main reason of her nomination, she felt very happy. DaDa Chan Jing with her revealing performance in VULGARIA was nominated for Best Supporting Actress against Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Jiang Yiyan, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) and Mavis Fan Hiu Huen. She said, "I am very happy to be nominated with Sister Yam Yam, this is a surprise gift. To Man Jat and the director are the two most important men in my career. I appreciate them. The nomination is already profit, I pick Sister Yam Yam." Originally nominated for Best New Performer with LOVE IN THE BUFF, Lam Siu Ha was discovered to have competed in the category before and was ousted. She said that it was regrettable but the nomination already was a recognition. "I would work hard with Brenda (her character)'s spirit." Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and Gordon Lam Ka Tung were nominated for Best Supporting Actor with VULGARIA and COLD WAR respectively. Cheng Chung Kei earlier won the Golden Horse Best Supporting Actor and thus was the favorite, but his confidence did not increase. He said, "I asked the Hong Kong Film Award chair (Gordon) Chan Ka Seung, after winning an award would the chance be better? He said not necessarily, anyone who won might not win. I pick THE BOUNTY (YUEN HUNG)'s (Alex) Man Chi Leung. He with his big eye contacts was very outstanding!" He said that his wife Sammie Yu Sze Man would accompany him. He hoped that she would be lucky for him just like at the Golden Horse Award. However they would not bring their daughter. Both picked Leung Ka Fai to win Best Actor. Half confident to win Best Supporting Actor, Lam Ka Tung regretted that Aaron Kwok Fu Sing was unable to compete for Best Actor. He said, "Sing Sing in COLD WAR gave a very fiery performance. When we worked together I saw fire in his eyes. I originally thought he had a great chance to be nominated." He told Sing Sing not to be disappointed since he has won the Golden Horse Best Actor. As for Best Actor, Cheung Chung Kei voted for LOVE IS PAJAMAS' Teresa Mo Shun Kwan but Sister Mo was not nominated. Lam Ka Tung picked Zhou Xun. Sing Yeh continued to express his "love" for Shu Qi, said that Shu Qi was fire that never ceased in his heart. He arranged to put a "promise ring" on Shu Qi's finger and kiss her hand; Shu Qi bashfully kissed Sing Yeh's cheek. The atmosphere was romantic as the media screamed, "Together!" Sing Yeh joked, "I want her to kiss my mouth!" Shu Qi heard everyone screamed "together" and bashfully said, "I haven't been with him, I don't know how romantic he would be overall." Sing Yeh did not pass up the chance. "Then let's be together for awhile!" Although Shu Qi had no comment for his expression of love, Sing Yeh did not give up. "In life you have to keep failing and keep standing up again. Like SHAOLIN SOCCER, she is the fire that never ceases in my heart." He also explained the love behind JOURNEY TO THE WEST. "It's not a simple love story, it is a love story that experiences life, death, explosion and excitement." Chau Sau Na earlier posed for Mainland media's JOURNEY TO THE WEST theme Monkey King and Bandit photos. She showed off her shoulders and legs on her Monkey King photo, but she posed when the Beijing temperature reached 2 degrees below zero Celsius. Despite the heat in the studio and 5 heaters around her, the chilling wind still blew in and gave her goose bumps. Sister Na admired Sing Yeh's Monkey King the most. He was loving, loyal and full of emotions. * (2013/02/06) Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Veronica Yip Yuk Hing and Joyce Cheng Yun Yi two nights ago attended the Lunar New Year I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI) premiere after party. Chi Wai happily expressed that the premiere response could not be better. Two scenes that touched the viewers the most were Bosco Wong Chung Chak's proposal to Kate Tsui Tsz Shan and Tsz Shan yelling at Wong Chung Chak. He even revealed that Alan Tam Wing Lung was moved to tears. He said, "Alan said that he would think when he watches the movie, after thinking of course he would cry even more." Was Alan reminded of his wedding proposal? He laughed and said that he did not know. Chi Wai gave special praise to Tsz Shan and Yun Yi's performance, Hing Hing could only come in third. "Tsz Shan came in first, her performance in this film truly was great. Even if she wouldn't win the Best Actress she would definitely be nominated. The first time I saw the entire film I already sent her a text to praise her improvement and congratulated her on becoming an actress who knew how to act; the second one I congratulated was Yun Yi. I felt if she was willing to let go and keep playing this type of comedy, she absolutely could be (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu's successor." Hing Hing also named Tsz Shan and Yun Yi in her compliments and agreed that Yun Yi could be Kwan Yu's successor. Hing Hing admitted that this comeback indeed has stirred up her acting bug, acting purely for interest absolutely was her dream. She felt that even she invested in a movie she might not have this result. "Everyone gave me a very warm feeling. Wong Cho Nam even showed me his photo with me at age 11, the photo was even laminated. I thought it was a lot of fun. This was something that money couldn't buy, but it was very hard to accomplish again in reality. My husband won't let me make another movie, I don't know when I can come back. This truly is the question mark." Yun Yi was happy about becoming Kwan Yu's successor. She felt that an actress should let go of herself for her performance. She said, "I have always admired Kwan Yu, I also felt that she is a woman who gets prettier and prettier. Does that mean that I can be prettier and prettier, and have more and more aura? I hope so! (Did you deliberately study your late mother Lydia Shum Din Ha for your character in the film?) I didn't deliberately imitate Mommy, helplessly when I put on the glasses and wore that hairstyle I really resembled her. When people called me fat, I wouldn't be unhappy. This world has many different voices, looking from different angles. I believe if I didn't get fatter last year, this time I might not be able to play this character." * (2013/02/05) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Chapman To Man Jat recently are working on the Pang Ho Cheung's new film FEI FU JING YING ji TOH PIU CHOOK JING (FLYING TIGER ELITE: PACKAGE EXPEDITION). They played Special Duties Unit members who go to Macau for pleasure. Earlier they went to Macau for the location shoot. Lok Jai yesterday posted a photo from a scene with a group of girls in black bras, but said that the shoot was very tough. * (2013/02/05) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu and Eric Tsang Chi Wai have their Lunar New Year film releases, but actually they worked together on the Wong Jing new film THE PRINCESS AND THE SEVEN KUNG FU MASTERS (SIU GUNG JUNG MO LUM). It will be released next month. In the film Kwan Yu and Chi Wai not only appeared in weird costumes but also had a kiss scene. * (2013/02/05) Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Ken Wong Hap Hei and Deep Ng Ho Hong earlier worked on their Empire Motion Picture MOR GAING (DEMON COP). In order to coordinate with three days of gun fight and explosion shoots, the film company more than two and a half months ago already applied to the authorities. The process was rather strict as several on ramps were declined to the production and the production could not damage the road surface. In order to avoid adding special effects and making the scenes unrealistic, they tried to coordinate. The scene along cost HK$1.5 million. Ka Fai who recently has been working on MOR and THE CARTEL WAR (BIN YIK) could not be busier. He once revealed that due to the drastic difference between the characters that he almost suffered from a personality split. Earlier he appeared on an on ramp in Sham Shui Po. Several dozen cars formed a line. In police uniforms Daniel and Wong Hap Hei exchanged fire with the masked Ka Fai. Ka fai even put on a demon cop mask and opened fire. Although he had two accomplices Daniel and his team forced them to retreat. Because traffic continued normally on the road, the gun fire stunned many drivers. After each shot Ka Fai would go over to the director Dante Lam Chiu Yin, watch the playback and study it. The next day the focus was on Daniel's gun play. A car was on fire, a spark from which injured Daniel's left pinky. The crew immediately treated Daniel. To avoid contact with the wound, when Daniel removed his bulletproof vast he not only had assistance from the crew but also applied pressure on his wound. Luckily the injury was minor. After resting he immediately returned to the shoot. Ka Fai was surprised at the demon cop costume being revealed. "You caught that? That's amazing. I had a mask on, how did you know which one was me? However this time I really have to thank the film company for providing so much resources and the government was very cooperated. (The film will shoot at a funeral home.) We have no taboo and work anywhere, we aren't scared." He also revealed that that his Lunar New Year holiday will last until the Lunar 5th, but because he was too tired he had no plan to go overseas. Wong Hap Hei and Ng Ho Hong are also in MOR GAING. The former earlier personally performed a close up shot in an explosion scene, then his double performed his stunt. Ng Ho Hong who has been played robbers frequently this time played a cop. He was in police uniform and had a gun in his hand as he pursued robbers. * (2013/02/05) The film I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI) last night held a premiere. Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Alan Tam Wing Lun, Veronica Yip Yuk Hing, Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Kate Tsui Tsz Shan attended. They appeared in retro look and competed for Best Dressed, which went to Wong Chung Chak and Tsui Tsz Shan. Hing Hing after completing her promote will return to the U.S. "My acting bug really acted up for this production. Chi Wai tempted me to make a television series and said that it was the film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s team. I even met the screen writer and was very tempted! Now I work due to interest, which money can't buy. However I believe the chance to make a series is slight because my husband said that this production was the only and the final time. I haven't made a series in 20 years, a 30 episode series would take 3 full months. Although Chi Wai promised me 8 hour rest everyday, even if I got past my husband I still don't know whether I would be able to tough it out." Wong Chung Chak's old flame Myolie Wu Hung Yi admitted that she had suitors. Reportedly Wong Chung Chak was not lonely while working on a series in Hengdian either as he had two female companions. Was it a protest against his old flame? Wong Chung Chak said, "They are my assistants. I am not worried, I am only afraid that the rumors would affect my female assistants." As for Wu Hung Yi's new romance, Wong Chung Chak said that he was happy for her. "I wouldn't force anything, relationships have to take their natural course." Carina Lau Ka Ling said that she wanted to work with him, Wong Chung Chak said, "Thank you Ka Ling for such a praise, if we have a chance to work together I would agree even if I would have to be an ox or a horse." Tsui Tsz Shan also received praise from Chow Yun Fat. She said, "If I would have a chance to work with master class figures I couldn't ask for more, even if I would only play a pedestrian I still would be very happy." Chi Wai was asked about bringing Tony Leung Ka Fai, Lau Ka Ling, Andy Lau Tak Wa, and Chow Yun Fat back to TVB series. He revealed that Leung Ka Fai has already agreed. "The soonest the production will start will be the end of the year, he didn't ask to work with anyone special. Leung Ka Fai started with the TVB training class and bleeds Shaw blood! As for Lau Tak Wa with the suitable series we will work together. Lau Ka Ling doesn't have time right now, as for negotiating Fat Gor for a series it may be too farfetched." Chi Wai felt that their return to TVB series would be good news for viewers because they are all good friends who have not appeared on the small screen for a long time. * (2013/02/05) The film DAVID LOMAN has been in release for 3 days in Taiwan and broke NT$50 million (around HK$13.1 million), the film was new director Chiu Li-Kuan's first film and has been called the Taiwan version of LOST IN THAILAND. Chiu Li-Kuan humbly said that she was only a "elementary school student director" and was still learning everything. "I am only in the top of the class in elementary school, I can't compare it to big films of the same period." Chiu Li-Kuan's motivation of making DAVID LOMAN was simple. She did not discuss any major philosophy as she only wanted to relax and laugh during the Lunar New Year. The film had a lot of Taiwanese, Putonghua and English foul language homophones that became jokes. Chiu Li-Kuan felt that this was the basic human basic. She gave special thanks to Chu Ke-Liang, who had comedy effect as soon as he appeared. In addition Amber Kuo and Tony Yang's couple scenes were very outstanding as well. * (2013/02/05) Angelababy and Ko Chen-Tung starred in the film TOGETHER that will open in the Mainland on February 12. They played a couple so embrace and kiss scenes were inevitable. Baby said that the first time she met Ko Chen-Tung was the costume fitting in Hong Kong. He was very nervous. During the photo shoot whenever she got a little closer Ko Chen-Tung would take a step back. Ko Chen-Tung explained, "Because Baby is pretty and an experienced actress and I am warm up slowly, I didn't know what to say to her." They became good friends as they worked together. Every time Baby went to work in Taiwan, Ko Chen-Tung would bring good food to visit her. She said, "Actually he is a very passionate kid, every time he would visit me with bags big and little. He is very attentive!" * (2013/02/05) Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) is pushing the "Young Charmaine Sheh Si Man" Angel Chiang Ka Man to be his new film DAI YUT CHI BUT SI NEI (THE FIRST TIME ISN'T YOU)'s lead actress. Two nights ago, Chiang Ka Man, Shiga Lin Si Nga and new comer Edward Ma Chi Wai worked on the film in Causeway Bay and attracted many onlookers. On this night Chiang Ka Man had to break down, hold Ma Chi Wai tight and even bite his arm. She was very emotional and in character. Before the shoot, Chiang Ka Man first cultivated her emotions to cry real tears. Shiga Lin guest starred and showed off her long legs. She held Ma Chi Wai's hand and looked intimate on their walk. She said that they were not familiar so it was a little awkward. During the shoot they saw how large the crowd of onlookers was and faced to wall to hide. Was she the third party in the film? Shiga Lin said, "No, my role isn't large but the character is rather important. Director Yip Lim Sum taught me a lot about acting, I too hope to make more movies this year." Shiga Lin yesterday thanked Yip Lim Sum for asking her to guest star online and shared her production experience. She would like to work together again soon. Yip Lim Sum said, "This collaboration was very memorable, we should work together very soon!" * (2013/02/05) Stephen Chow Sing Chi, Shu Qi, Chrissie Chau Sau Na, Show Luo (Law Chi Cheung) and Huang Bo two days ago attended the film JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) Beijing premiere press conference. Sing Yeh publicly expressed his love for Shu Qi, "My respect for Ms. Shu trickles endlessly like the river. I hope to wait until Ms. Shu is not so busy to express my love for her again." However Shu Qi did not accept Sing Yeh's love and said, "I admire and respect the director very much, I should be the one who asks whether I can express love for the director." Sing Yeh said, "I am afraid that you will never have time, then I have no chance." Shu Qi directly rejected Sing Yeh and said, "Then I hope to be always busy." In the film Shu Qi pursued Wen Zhang. In real life Shu Qi has never taken the initiative with any guy. However she said that if she ran into a good guy she would consider taking action. Sing Yeh revealed that he wanted a pretty girl to pursue him but he never ran into any. Thus he expressed that in the film. Sister Na revealed that Sing Yeh bought her dumplings because in the film she had dance and exhaust her energy. Sing Yeh praised Sister Na's great figure, which would lead to nose bleeds; Sister Na said that when she saw Sing Yeh she too would have a nose bleed. Huang Bo as a comedy actor felt that if he did not work with Sing Yeh life would be less than perfect. Thus he agreed to play Sun Wukong right away. However, Sun Wukong's costume was too ugly. Huang Bo could not help but said, "Actually it wasn't the ugliest, it was just uglier than that. It was almost KUNG FU HUSTLE's Beast." Sing Yeh praised Piggy who played the lonely gentleman for his performance and his comedy. He said, "The important part is he is so handsome, just like when I was young." Piggy revealed that Sing Yeh did not sleep or take care of his skin. Sing Yeh said, "Why is all the attention always on my looks?" * (2013/02/04) The Stephen Chow Sing Chi directed, Wen Zhang and Shu Qi starred JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) yesterday held its premiere in Beijing. Sing Yeh said, "I don't dare to say how much it will make at the box office, but I believe that everyone would like this movie." A man of a few words, he yesterday even sang LOVE OF A LIFETIME with Shu Qi. Sing Yeh was very tender with Shu Qi. Shu Qi was asked whether Sing Yeh still had any chance with her. She tried to change the subject, which made Sing Yeh very nervous as well. "You didn't answer this question, just answer it directly. Either I do or I don't." Shu Qi said, "When I have time, when I have a lot of time." Sing Yeh said, "I am afraid that you will never have time." When she had to choose between Stephen Fung Tak Lun and Chow Sing Chi, Shu Qi said, "They both are great, I wouldn't choose." * (2013/02/04) Paul Wong Koon Chung, Kay Tse On Kay, Wilfred Lau Ho Lung and Teddy Robin Kwan have been working on their new film MOOT YUT PAI DUI (DOOMSDAY PARTY). Two days ago around 5PM they worked on location in Sheung Wan. In the story after a bank explosion fire fighters rescued Paul and others. Due to the numerous actors dressed as fire fighters and police officers, many pedestrians looked on. Kay had to walk out with Paul who was succumbed to smoke. Due to the story they also had to have ash on their faces. Some fans asked Kay for a photo and she complied. Teddy Robin had make up blood on his head as the police helped him out of the building. * (2013/02/04) Suspected to have "prepartum depression", Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) two days ago was still working on the Dante Lam Chiu Yin directed Emperor Motion Picture MOR GAING (DEMON COP). Playing a police officer, Ng Yin Cho was armed and wearing a bulletproof vast in pursuit of the robber who was both good and evil, Nick Cheung Ka Fai. During the shoot Ng Yin Cho was playing with the prop gun. After a shot he would immediately return to the director and watch the playback. Conceivably the soon to be father was already able to overcome the jitters to make pre birth preparations for his wife. The Lam Chiu Yin directed Emperor Motion Picture MOR GAING starred Cheung Ka Fai and Ng Yin Cho. Earlier they held a production start ceremony at the Ma On Shan Country Park, boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing personally attended. Soon to be a Year of the Snake father, Ng Yin Cho suffered mentally from being excessively in character. His wife Lisa S. also due to her pregnancy constantly cried out of the blue. Ng Yin Cho would take time to shop with his wife when he was not making a movie. He and his wife both were suspected to have the pregnancy blues. Ng Yin Cho even invited his in laws to come to Hong Kong to keep his wife company, while he concentrated on making the movie. Two days ago around 3PM, he and Ken Wong Hap Hei, Cheung Ka Fai, Lee Kwok Lun and others worked on a police chase scene in Sham Shui Po. At the time the team arranged to have many vehicles for the shoot. Almost 20 vehicles were affected and were stuck on the on ramp. Ng Yin Cho and Wong Hap Hei were in police uniforms, bulletproof vast and carried guns in pursuit of the robber Cheung Ka Fai. Ka Fai wore a mask. The crew also very cautiously dressed Ng Yin Cho and Wong Hap Hei. Before the shoot, Ng Yin Cho happily amused himself and pretended to shoot with his gun. After every shot he would rush back to Lam Chiu Yin to watch the playback and understand whether it was satisfactory. After over a hour the day's shoot was completed. The cast left but the director Lam Chiu Yin and the crew remained on the on ramp to scout the location. Seemingly they still would shoot around the area. * (2013/02/04) Wong Jing often publicly made fun of how Stephen Chow Sing Chi treated people and matter, but in terms of movies he remained objective. Yesterday Brother Jing online publicly praised Chow Sing Chi's new film JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) and said that he liked it very much. Wong Jing said, "I saw JOURNEY TO THE EWST, who said (Derek) Kwok Chi Kin was invisible? The story structure had his shadow everywhere. However Chow Sing Chi's aura lingered all over the details. I guess the inspiration came from DREADFUL TRUTH OF GRIMM'S FAIRY TALES, but with Mr. Chow's personality he definitely would deny that. Summation: Great Mix, I like it." * (2013/02/04) Mainland director Zhang Yibai's Lunar New Year film BETTER AND BETTER has received great support; the film has Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Xu Jinglei and Wang Baoqiang in its cast and will be released on the Lunar New Year's Day. Two nights ago a "friends and family screening" took place in Beijing. John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) and Faye Wong were among the attendees. Ng Yu Sum praised the film and said that he has not seen such a cheerful and warm film in a long time. Faye Wong put on her cat ear hair band, stood in front of the film promotion board with her good friend Zhang Yibai and gave a thumbs up. She said, "I am never like this, this is the first." * (2013/02/04) Ronald Cheng Chung Kei yesterday posted a terrifying photo of his special effect make up in the film HOTEL DELUXE (BAK SING JAU DIM). He has a white face, white eyes and no eye balls. Around his eyes were all black veins. He was rather pleased as he said, "This look can't be better!" Vincent Kok Tak Siu said, "Your eyes are very red! They are all out of bounds." Cheng Chung Kei learned that some girl after watching the film kept asking her boyfriends to imitate his ghost screams in the film. Her boyfriend was unwilling and upset her. Cheng Chung Kei's wife Sammie Yu Si Man also jokingly impersonated his call! * (2013/02/04) Lily Ho Ngo Yi and Oscar Leung Lit Wai yesterday attended an event promotion. Leung Lit worked on FUNG BO (STORM) earlier and in one scene had to slap Andy Lau Tak Wa.; Wa Jai was Wai Wai's idol so during the shoot Wai Wai was especially scared. Wa Jai found out and communicated with him. Finally his slap left Wa Jai shaking his head. Wai Wai during an action scene in HARDCORE COMEDY (CHUNG HAU MEI) almost injured his co-star Louis Cheung Kai Chung, and in a few days he will work with three actresses in a passion scene. Meanwhile Christine Kuo and Jay Fung Won Him attended a shopping center New Spring event. Recently she has been busy with the film HARDCORE COMEDY and a television series, which she hoped to complete before the Lunar New Year and properly rest. She already asked the company for 3 weeks off to return to Canada and visit her family. Speaking of her HARDCORE COMEDY school uniform look, she received online praises. Lady Kuo said, "Thank you, the costume designer chose a suitable costume for me, the result was great. I didn't know that (Renee) Lee Wan was criticized for wearing a real school uniform. Mine was fake." * (2013/02/03) The strongest in the universe Donnie Yen Chi Tan has been busy as a director and an actor on his new film THE ICEMAN COMETH (3D BING FUNG HUP). Two nights ago he appeared again at Central, but he did not perform personally. He only concentrated on directing extras in action scenes. During the shoot Wise Guys and several police officers struggled, Chi Tan did not seem pleased with their action and demonstrated in person. He even instructed for half a hour. Unfortunately the extras still were unable to meet his demand, leaving him shaking his head and sighing. Finally he seriously sat aside to watch the playback. * (2013/02/03) Yesterday Paul Wong Koon Chung met up with Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, Kay Tse On Kay, Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu, Teddy Robin Kwan and others in Sheung Wan to work on an explosion scene for the film MOOT YUT PAI DUI (DOOMSDAY PARTY). Several dozen actors participated as victims, police officers and fire fighters, ambulances and fire engines were also present. Playing the bank client manager Tse On Kay wore her uniform, Paul played a cop. Everyone was covered in ash. Lau Ho Lung and victims stepped outside the building, Teddy Robin even had make up blood on his head while the police placed Kwan Chor Yiu in handcuffs. * (2013/02/03) Alan Tam Wing Lun and Veronica Yip Yuk Hing yesterday promoted their Lunar New Year film I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI). Hing Hing wore her personal blue and white porcelain dress, diamond earrings and a more than 5 karat diamond ring. Was she trying to dispel the rumor that she was making the movie for money? Hing Hing said, "Hubby asked me if I wasn't paid the other half of the salary, if so I should just let it go and not return to Hong Kong. However it's not a money problem, it's responsibility. Work can't be like this. I hope he knows that people who makes movies are very serious; unless I am dead, otherwise no matter why I have to be there." She admitted that the movie did not require too many jewelry. She never imagined that it would lead to so many rumors. This time she could dress pretty to promote. "I can bring too much jewelry because I am afraid of taxes when I go back. Earlier I have had items stolen at the airport three times, so I would be extra careful." * (2013/02/03) Stephen Chow Sing Chi has not released a new film in 4 years. The long awaited fantasy comedy JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) will be released on February 7. Yesterday a media advanced screening was held. Although the film was 1 hour and 50 minutes long and Sing Yeh only directed and not starred, the film did not have a dull moment. However it had no pleasant surprise either; the comedy that viewers wanted to see the most was just rotten gag, the film did not have any gut busting laugh. The film's selling point all along, special effect scenes were neither plenty nor exciting. They included the giant fish demon transforming into an octopus to kill people, the pig demon transforming into a wild boar, and Sun Wukong transforming into a gorilla and Buddha. JOURNEY TO THE WEST's simple story was about the young Xuan Zang, who finally became the Venerable Monk Tang. With the assistance of exorcist Shu Qi he tamed the water demon, the pig demon and the king of demon kings and turned them into his disciples with love; Venerable Monk Tang experienced the truth of Great Love from these experience and Shu Qi's death, Chow Sing Chi style comedy was added in between. Sun Wukong's crown originally was the free flying ring that Shu Qi used to tame demons. After turning it into a ring, Shu Qi gave it to Wen Zhang as a gift of lifelong companionship after falling for him at first sight. Although Shu Qi was stuck on him, Wen Zhang did not accept her; finally when Shu Qi died for him, he realized that he fell for Shu Qi long ago. Wen Zhang only said, "I love you for a thousand years, ten thousand years" just like the classic dialogue from CHINESE ODYSSEY (SAI YA UGEI), but no new classic line appeared. The lonely gentleman Show Luo (Law Chi Cheung) and Shu Qi's sister Chrissie Chau Sau Na were actually guest stars. Piggy only had two shots. He sat on the sedan chair and never touched the ground. For comedy four old fairies carried him on the sedan. Even when he fought with Sun Wukong he only launched swords from his seat. Sing Yeh did not properly use Sister Na's sexiness, only her slim waist in a seductive dance. The dance scene with Wen Zhang and Sister Na indeed was very funny. As for the cast, everyone gave outstanding performance. Each character personality left a deep impression. Wen Zhang and Huang Bo were the best. Shu Qi was just right as the powerful but innocent woman. Sing Yeh's colleagues often criticized him for being hard to deal with. Yesterday he replied, "Actually I don't know how am I over these years, I did things according to my own principles. Anything bad of course needs improvement, human cannot possibly be perfect all the time. I have been in show business for 30 years, the principle that never changed was work more, talk less." As for outside depiction of him as cold, merciless and hard to work with, Sing Yeh said, "When you ask me, I am not going to answer. I don't want to say anything either! Ask them!" Sing Yeh yesterday saw Chau Sau Na and said, "She is thinner!" Chau Sau Na explained that she trimmed her belly in advance for the celebration. "The box office number will definitely be huge, so I lost the belly in advance. I prepare to pig out at the celebration, after the Lunar New Year it will be one meal after another." * (2013/02/03) HOTEL DELUXE (BAK SING JAU DIM) two nights ago held a premiere. Fiona Sit Hoi Kei appeared in a tight orange dress but her lack of a figure was made fun of. Chapman To Man Jat said, "She has no curve to start with. Others go overboard, she uses a belt to draw out her chest." He said that earlier when they worked in Qiandao Lake they often chatted in their rooms. Sit Hoi Kei was reluctant to leave, when it was over she even forgot her own room number and left Sandra Ng Kwan Yu with an absurd look in her eyes. To Man Jat also joked that Kwan Yu's chest was as flat as her back. "I was chatting with Sit Hoi Kei in the room and Kwan Yu's massage appointment came up. I saw her back, but when she turned around I still thought it was her back; earlier when we returned to the radio station for a program, she even went without a bra for comfort." Sit Hoi Kei felt embarrassed from the jabs at her lack of figure. "From now on when I work with them on a movie I want a raise!" Kwan Yu joked that everyone could see how thin she was. Even her daughter thought her chest was small and her figure resembled a man's. Kwan Yu joked, "Earlier I am naked with my daughter. The maid had a great figure so my daughter asked why some are big and some are small. I asked her whether she liked big or small, she at first said mine was just right, then 3 seconds later she said she liked big and said my figure looked like a boy's!" Kwan Yu had no intention to enhance her breasts but would cultivate her daughter to have a perfect figure. "I would tell her to eat more nutritious food and develop a super model figure." She even struck back and said that To Man Jat was very dirty. Teresa Mo Shun Kwan and Kwan Yu worked together again after 19 years. Raymond Wong Pak Ming pointed out that they were rumored to be at odds. Mo Shun Kwan immediately denied the rumor. "We don't have a chance to be at odds. Previously when we finished a movie we went home. During location Kwan Yu even shipped me fruit for juicing, Wong Pak Ming only asked Kwan Yu to make movies for so many years!" Kwan Yu boasted, "Wong Pak Ming misses me very much!" Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) whose father just passed away did not accept any interview and forced a smile. Ha Chun Chau said, "Lynn scolded me with foul language!" Actually Hung Doi Lam in the film played a mobster who was very rough. * (2013/02/03) Deanie Ip Tak Han two nights ago attended a brand name label event. She spoke about the film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI), "I am not a Wong Kar Wai fan. After this I finally have a Hong Kong director I really like. (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai is exploding with cool! Do I want to work with them? Leave that to fate! Zhang Ziyi is also exploding with pretty, the Eight Diagram Palm looked very pretty. I don't want to make a martial art film, watching is enough. At my age I shouldn't follow others. In addition Wong Kar Wai takes several years to make the movie, I am afraid that I won't live through the shoot." Since most of the film fell on Zhang Ziyi, did she feel bad for Wai Jai? Ip Tak Han said, "I don't understand why everyone feels Zhang Ziyi stole the movie, Wai Jai was just right. I like him more and more. Do I like Wai Jai more than Wa Jai (Andy Lau Tak Wa)? No, they are different. Wa Jai is respect, Wai Jai is admiration." She and Wai Jai have worked together on the TVB series ENCOUNTER WITH FORTUNE and on the film THE LUNATICS (DIN LO JING JUEN) but had no scene together. * (2013/02/02) Simon Yam tat Wa worked on the Emperor Motion Picture SPECIAL RESCUE HEROES (DUT JUNG GAU WOON YING HUNG) with Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Shawn Yue Man Lok and Hu Jun. After a month of working together, Wa Jai have built decent friendships with Ah Lok and others. Hu Jun was about to leave Hong Kong so two nights ago Ah Lok led them Po Toi O for seafood. Patrick Tse also joined in. When they left they took photos of themselves. Ah Lok immediately posted the photos online. Wa Jai yesterday said that this time work was like entertainment. "Carrying the fire fighting gear was very tough, but this time I had a lot of fun. Lok Jai, (William) Chan Wai Ting all performed very well. The Hong Kong film industry finally has successors. (Did Brother Sei dine with you?) He didn't get to play firefighter so he came to fight for the bill. He was catching up with me, THE SHELL GAME (CHIN WONG GWUN YING WUI), but without 'Northern Heavenly King' Yeung Kwun the reunion wasn't complete." * (2013/02/02) Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam and Wai Ying Hung went to Malaysia to promote their new film THE WEDDING DIARY 2 with A Niu. Kong Yeuk Lam in the film played a mother for the first time, so yesterday at the press conference they had a cute baby as a special guest. She also said that she benefited a lot from working with A Niu, who was humorous and was always funny on the set to keep the production atmosphere rather light. * (2013/02/02) Alan Tam Wing Lun and Veronica Yip Yuk Hing yesterday promoted their Lunar New Year I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI) on Commercial Radio. For Hing Hing's Bollywood snake charm dance scene she only showed her waist, but Alan who has not seen it yet joked that he was very much looking forward to it. Hing Hing said that this time she would stay in Hong Kong for 5 days and fly back to the U.S. before the Lunar New Year. Her husband was busy with a new supermarket plan and did not tag along. Speaking of Eric Tsang Chi Wai's interest for her to make a television series and was even willing to accommodate her to shoot in the summer, Hing Hing said, "I want to too, but the chance is slim because it will take 3 months. I can't be away from my children that long." Alan joked, "Do you know what kind of series it will be? It's GOODBYE EMMANUELLE!" Speaking of Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Teresa Caprio (To Lai Sha) and Jenny Tseng as the sassiest people in the business. If they got into a fight who did Alan think would win? He said, "How would I know? To Lai Sha is very strict when she is teaching, which is a good thing. Chau Sun and Yen Nei both have good intentions. If I am added we can play mahjong. I too want to call Chau Sun to chat, but I don't have his number." * (2013/02/02) The film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) broke HK$20 million in Hong Kong and closed in on 300 million RMB in the Mainland. Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Max Zhang Jun two nights ago attended a celebration. Wai Jai was happy for director Wong Kar Wai who finally made a movie that made money. Wai Jai said, "I hope that he would have a hit film that was both a critical and commercial success so he could answer to investors." Wai Jai was not saying that every Wong Kar Wai film lost money. They did not lose money elsewhere, but they never performed well at home; he would neither ask nor look forward to Wong Kar Wai making more commercial films. The GRNADMASTERS was not released in time for this year's Hong Kong Film Awards so Wai Jai was unable to receive a Best Actor nomination. Wai Jai did not feel any regret. "It doesn't matter, not because I have won enough but because now my work attitude is different. I am making movie because I enjoy the production process, not for awards." Next year he, Donnie yen Chi Tan and Anthony Wong Chau Sun, three actors who played Ip Man, might compete for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor. Wai Jai said, "It doesn't matter. (Are you confident that you will defeat them?) I have thought about it." Zhang Jun two nights ago returned from Shanghai, put his daughter at home and rushed over. He said that his wife Ada Choi Siu Fun was still working in the Mainland. After this job she would stop working to focus on her pregnancy. "She likes to work, I can't stop her. However every time she works she asks her doctor for permission, she wouldn't be irresponsible." He already knew the baby's sex and expected date of birth but he did not want to reveal them yet. Will he stop after this child? Zhang Jun said yes. Did that mean that this would be a son? He smiled and said, "I haven't said it yet. I only thought two were enough, the children would have a companion." Zhang Jun admitted that after THE GRANDMASTERS he had a lot more work, thus he had to thank Wong Kar Wai. * (2013/02/02) Chrissie Chau Sau Na recently has been busy with the JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) film promotion. Reportedly in the film Stephen Chow Sing Chi displayed his creative style and added in a musical element, as Sister Na and Wen Zhang had a sexy dance routine. Unfortunately someone left an online message and said that the frail Wen Zhang's "spare ribs" stole the spotlight from Sister Na's sexy costume; Shu Qi and Huang Bo were no exception. Huang Bo taught Shu Qi how to dance the hula, Shu Qi said, "For this scene, Chow Sing Chi deliberately kept the cameras rolling until he was about to laugh. Then he yelled cut." * (2013/02/02) Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) in the Lunar New Year film HOTEL DELUXE (BAK SING JAU DIM) played a sweet and polite famous star Ke Xiaping who actually was a completely different person privately, with tattoos and a foul mouth. It was a huge challenge for the normally soft spoken her. "In one scene I had to use foul language toward Sister Mo (Teresa Mo Shun Kwan). At the time I was really very nervous. Sister Mo comforted me and told me to be daring and meaner. During the shoot, I pushed Sister Mo hard and she flew into the wall. At the time I was really very sorry!" In another scene she invited Ha Chun Chau and Susan Shaw Yam Yam to guest star in a senior care commercial. On camera she took great care of the two seniors but actually kept abusing them. She forced them to stuff themselves with moon cakes and wear Easter Bunny costumes to play cute. However, Sister Yam Yam said, "I can't believe Uncle Winter and I are 200 years old together and still have to dress up. It's very exciting to me, I hope the audience feel we are funny and not gross. Yet we kept eating on repeated shoots, my stomach was full but I still had to pretend that I was enjoying it." * (2013/02/02) Cable Movie 1 purchased the film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). Director Pang Ho Cheung in order to coordinate with the television broadcast wrote special "zero foul language" dialogues. He said, "Many people feel the key to VULGARIA's humor is the foul language, actually foul language is only a method of expression. I guarantee the "zero foul language" version not only does not reduce the funny level, the "clean version" dialogue expression instead has an added layer of comedy effect. I have to thank the cast for making time and providing their voices from the beginning to the end." Several classic scenes like the wild game banquet and the equal opportunity commission agent (Miriam Yeung Chin Wa)'s investigation of To Wai Cheung (Chapman To Man Jat) had particularly brilliant dialogues. Cable said that before VULGARIA was released it already contacted Pang Ho Cheung and decided to buy the film. It had confidence in Director Pang and showed Cable Movie 1's support of Hong Kong film. * (2013/02/01) Stephen Shiu Jr. last year invested on the 3D erotic film DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI), which made almost HK$20 million at the box office. Recently he decided to invest HK$15 million to go to Thailand for the sequel DUE WEST 2 OUR THAILAND JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI 2 THAI SAI), with the leads bringing the audience to all the "sex" spots where transvestites and hot girls are abundant. The film company is negotiating with the 19 year old former AKB member Risa Tachibana (formerly named Eri Takamatsu) to perform in the buff. TVB series INBOUND TROUBLES (LO BIU NEI HO YEH!)'s May Chen Jiajia might guest star as chubby john James' sister to add to the comedy element. Stephen Shiu Jr. originally was one of the investors on the Donnie Yen Chi Tan starred co-production THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (BING FUNG HUP). Earlier he helplessly pulled out his investment. After losing the Mainland market, Stephen focused on category III film. Last year his 3D erotic film DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY, which was based on Xiang Xi Haruki Muramaki's internet novel and rapidly made HK$19.27 million at the Hong Kong box office. The film's director Mark Wu Yiu Fai and Xiang Xi Haruki Muramaki recently discussed the sequel DUE WEST 2 OUR THAI JOURNEY for a summer release. The Mainland box office hit LOST IN THAILAND recently arrived in Hong Kong, but due to the difference in taste between the two places it might not be suitable for Hong Kong viewers. Instead the tailored for otaku and dirtier DUE WEST 2 would conceivably be more appropriate. The HK$15 million investment will start work in April. The film will shoot on location in Thailand sex spots and challenge the censorship limits. Xiang Xi Haruki Muramaki will participate in the story creation. The film will coordinate with his new book release. The three key characters of DUE WEST, Xiang Xi Justin Cheung Kin Sing, Wong Jing Gregory Wong Chung Hiu and James Wu Yiu Fai will remain. They get tired of going North so they are determined to go to Thailand. The "Thailand girls" will be all new faces. Reportedly the film company has already contacted 3 young adult video stars, the 18 year old Japanese adult video star Aimi Yoshikawa, the 19 year old former AKB member Risa Tachibana and the 22 year old Tsukasa Aoi. DUE WEST 2 planned to choose two of them. Aside from Japanese adult video stars, the film is still looking for beauties in China and Taiwan. Local talent will include the 34D Angelina Zhang, who only had one scene in DUE WEST and will have more screen time in DUE WEST 2. Transvestites are readily available in Thailand and the film will add them for freshness. To strengthen the comedy effect, even the 230 pound popular goddess of the TVB series INBOUND TROUBLES May Chen Jiajian will appear in the film as James' sister. The siblings will visit Thailand together, he will mess around while she will pig out. She said, "The film company called, I have to check out the script and the schedule. I might not accept it if it is too dirty or dangerous." Xiang Xi Haruki Muramaki replied, "I of course will participate in the creation." Wu Yiu Fai said, "We are planning an ordinary version DUE WEST 2. Hong Kongers are familiar with this place. During our research we found many private places with beauties galore and we want to share them with the audience. We are also coming up with a full moon party." He also promised to use all the hot girls. "We have already contacted a group of adult video actresses, among them I really like the best new comer Risa Tachibana. The film will also have Thailand's famous transvestites. DUE WEST's cast Mongol Cow (Danielle Wang Lidan), Cheung Woon Nga, Jeana (Ho Pui Yu), Mok Yi Man and Celia (Kwok Wing Yi) had a lot of fun and I want to work with them again. If Sister Na (Chrissie Chau Sau Na) doesn't mind, I want her help too." DUE WEST made the relatively unknown Mongol Cow Danielle Wang Lidan so busy that Wu Yiu Fai revealed the film company recently received self introductions from female comrades. Wu Yiu Fai and Xiang Xi Haruki Muramaki after DUE WEST already have a bond. He said, "He has handed the draft to me, it's very funny. I will save it for dialogues." He thought DUE WEST had too little comedy so he would go all out in DUE WEST 2. He said, "Lately I noticed Tiny in INBOUND had a lot of luck with the audience, everyone said we looked alike. I hope to play siblings with her in the film." Will she need to put her figure on display? Wu Yiu Fai said, "We don't need to be so hardcore, I won't eliminate the possibility for Tiny to stumble into a duck (gigolo) shop." * (2013/02/01) The HK$200 million production THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (3D BING FUNG HUP) has turned Hong Kong upside down with lead actor Donnie Yen Chi Tan. Two nights ago lead actress Eva Huang Shengyi appeared as well. Yen Chi Tan has been very busy as a director and an actor on his new film. Earlier he landed in costume in Causeway Bay for the shoot and the city was jam packed. Two nights ago the film moved to a Tsim Sha Tsui alley with many bars. the location was decorated for Halloween, thus extras appeared in different costumes. In a down jacket Yen Chi Tan and Huang Shengyi soon appeared and prepared for the performance. Before the official shoot, the team bought a lot of street snacks like fish ball, shu mai and skewers and filled the table for the cast. With lemon tea in her hand Huang Shengyi and co-star Sukie Shek Wing Lei were drawn to the food. Huang Shengyi picked up a skewer and could not stop herself from stuffing her face while chatting with Shek Wing Lei. Yen Chi Tan already had a bag of candy for himself as he chatted with the crew. He also did not turn anyone who asked for a photo away. Soon Chi tan removed his jacket and his costume was revealed. He stood in the center and performed, attracting many pedestrians to look on. Shek Wing Lei, Jacqueline Chong Si Man and Mark Wu Yiu Fai guest starred in costumes. Chong Si Man in a wild kitten look was very eye catching. Director Law Wing Cheong and Chi Tan chatted before the shoot. With better communication the production went especially smooth. In the story Chi Tan came from the past to modern times and appeared at a Halloween party, thus Chi Tan despite his costume remained undetected. Because Chi Tan has been frozen for 400 years, he was very hungry when he woke up. Seeing ramen at the party, he wolfed down 10 bowls and stacked the bowls high. Chi Tan had a noodle in his mouth, which was a super funny look. Chi Tan saw the people in ox and horse costumes getting close and worried that he went to Hell. Chi Tan kicked their chairs and they all fell onto the floor. At this moment Chi Tan ran into Huang Shengyi and fell in love at first sight. * (2013/02/01) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan and Sandra Ng Kwan Yu both are Raymond Wong Pak Ming's Lunar New Year centers, but the last time they worked together was in the 1994 film CRAZY WOMEN (SOR DAI JEH WAN JUEN FUNG YUN YUEN). Sister Mo admitted to "breaking ice" with Kwan Yu. "When we were younger film productions were busy and rushed, we didn't have a lot of opportunities to chat. This time we ate together almost everyday. We both have become mothers and have endless topics. Kwan Yu even brought DVDs to exercise with all the actresses and assistants. I have never done that in all my years in movies." Speaking of parenthood, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei who has become a father also have in depth experience. Sister Mo joked that she did not need to share any tip to her "son". "Chung Kei and I played mother and son in MR. CINEMA (LO GONG JING JUEN). Little Daughter in law is very attentive with her daughter. I am always making fun of Son, now he is already satisfied with holding two ladies. With life and acting he has already become more and mature and stable!" Sister Mo's daughters are growing up. While family comes first she longed to challenge for the Best Actress award, but she would not deliberately increase production. Sister Mo said, "My younger daughter may be going to an university overseas, so I cherish our days together even more. A few more movies won't guarantee an award. Hitting it in one shot is the most important. I have to wait for directors to give me something to work with." Speaking of the 10th anniversary of her good friend Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's passing, Sister Mo would not have any special memorial. Yet whenever she remembered playing mahjong with Gor Gor she still would smile from the heart. "During the Lunar New Year we played for seven days and seven nights. Gor Gor's mind turned very quickly, we played slower. He would rush us with a rule in his hand." * (2013/02/01) Alan Tam Wing Lun earlier put on a mushroom wig and thick rimmed glasses to work on his Lunar New Year film I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI) in Mongkok. Although no one recognized him, the story required for me to sleep on cardboard on the street and for Ma Tai Lo to yell at him. Then they drew a crowd. Principal Tam even personally designed his street sleeping gestures with intense expression and without holding anything back. * (2013/02/01) Artist Michelle Wai Si Nga returned to her original name. Adding her last name back to her stage name, she explained, "At first I thought an artist with a two word stage name would sound better and be easier when writing. Yet many often confused me with (Shiga) Lin Si Nga. once someone asked me, 'Is your last name Lin?' Actually the name was really confusing for people. My last name was Wai so I went back to Wai Si Nga!" Wai Si Nga recently worked on one of the stories in HARDCORE COMEDY (CHONG HAU MEI), which she felt was very challenging. "Actually the last year went very smoothly for me. At the beginning of the year I wished for a cosmetic ad campaign and it came true. My 2012 movies although might not be all leads for me, I had room to perform in every film. I have always wanted to make a comedy. The chance was hard to come by and this year I finally got it." Wai Si Nga admitted that comedy was hard, the first condition was a special face. Her face was not exaggerated enough, thus she could only spend more time on studying the character. "I hope to be able to be a successful comedy actress, for everyone to see me and laugh and to be able to share joy with everyone!" * (2013/02/01) Dior Cheng Yi Kin and Yoyo Mung Ka Wai registered their marriage in Tokyo on Monday. They returned to Hong Kong last night, locking hands as they stepped out of the airport. 50 reporters covered their arrived. When they heard congratulatory "Mr. Cheng, Mrs. Cheng" repeatedly, they smiled sweetly and often displayed their platinum wedding rings. The groom even joked, "The most exciting part of the wedding is seeing so many reporters at this moment." When asked how they felt, Cheng Yi Kin took the initiative and answered, "We are very happy. First we have to thank friends who wish us well, but we are sorry that we couldn't invite all our friends to witness the wedding. However we will dine with friends later." Will they hold a make up wedding banquet? Ekin was surprised and said, "Again? No way!" They were moved to tears at the wedding. Ekin joked, "As long as they were happy tears it's OK!" As for the bride Yoyo's emotions, Ekin replied, "The most exciting part is this moment when we see so many reporters." Ekin revealed that they chose to register their marriage in Japan because they went there for their first trip together. Was the wedding certificate in Japanese? He jokingly answered to be continued and will register in Hong Kong as well. What did Ekin promise Mung Ka Wai in their vows? He said that he would not publicly say it. As for friends who complained that he was too secretive and missed the chance to witness the ceremony, he pointed out that his friend would understand. Because he would handle different friends differently, for example he would take his YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) friends to dine at Dai Pai Dong. However he also apologized to Wilson Chin Kwok Wai, because he knew he was busy with work he did not disturb him. When asked whether Ekin was used to calling her Old Lady yet, Mung Ka Wai smiled sweetly and said, "Sometime he would forget." She also said that when she heard reporters kept calling her Mrs. Cheng, she too was getting used to this new title. Guests also returned to Hong Kong. Two nights ago Cheng Yi Kin's mother, Jerry Lam Hiu Fung and Lily Hong Chi Nei returned to Hong Kong on the same flight. Mama Cheng was in a wheel chair. In order to witness her son's wedding she went to Japan. When asked whether she was touched to see her son starting a family, Mama Cheng remained silent and did not answer. Lam Hiu Fung joked about Ekin's wedding, "I have never seen Ekin cry like this, he even told me to get away. I was moved to tears several times myself because I was happy for them." He did not know that Ekin was getting married before hand, only during the trip he was suddenly notified that they were going to a castle. Without any wedding gift prepared, he performed LOVE IS FOREVER for the newlyweds; Ekin also sang for Yoyo. He joked that before leaving Ekin asked him not to say too much, so he could personally make the announcement to the media when he returned to Hong Kong. * (2013/02/01) Yesterday Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Yuen Woo Ping, and Lau Ka Yung attended the Hong Kong University "Who Is THE GRANDMASTERS film forum". The 1000 seats were filled in two hours, with 600 people waiting outside. When Wai Jai appeared the crowd roared and gave him a standing ovation. Wai Jai attended an university forum for the first time. When asked whether the film will have a sequel due to good word of mouth? He said, "No, I am not afraid of 3 more years in production. Time isn't a problem, I just want to try something else to have a sense of freshness." Reportedly the Berlin Film Festival screening will be an extended version, Wai Jai asked Wong Kar Wai to confirm. He said that another version would not be fair to the audience, he might edit out some scenes that foreigners would not understand. He would not demand to add back his removed scenes as he thought that as it is now the movie is rather entertaining. Reportedly he was upset at the size of the role and he was at odds with Wong Kar Wai. Wai Jai laughed and said, "Hahaha, you are killing me, am I this type of person? I have been friends with Wong Kar Wai for so many years that I wouldn't mind. I am 50 years old, I have everything, what else do I want? Instead I have to learn to give, to do charity work on my free time, help those who aren't as fortunate. I took two years off before, life was brilliant. When I woke up I would drink with friends until I fell asleep. With sustenance and responsibility, life would healthier." After promoting in Korea and the U.S., he will take two months off before deciding on his charity work. He was willing to do charity work with his wife Carina Lau Ka Ling as well. Action director Yuen Woo Ping praised Wai Jai's kung fu film prowess. He should not be compared to Donnie yen Chi Tan, as their styles and specialties were different. Was Chi Tan better? He said, "Wai Jai is great too, they are great in different ways. Wai Jai's action sense is great, he is just being humble." After the two hour forum ended, they went to Mongkok for audience appreciation and celebrated with a lion dance. * (2013/02/01) The newly single Chrissie Chau Sau Na yesterday promoted her new book in Taiwan. She admitted that although she was focused on work now, she still longed for romance. Sister Na said that although film was not her childhood dream, since trying to perform on the big screen she was deeply attracted and hoped to be able to develop more. Earlier she participated in Stephen Chow Sing Chi's JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN), she worked with Shu Qi to generate laughs. Speaking of many actors feeling Chow Sing Chi was very serious, Sister Na said, "I spent everyday in laughter, that period of a very happy period!" During the event, Eric Tsang Chi Wai suddenly appeared to cheer her on. Sister Na was very appreciative of Chi Wai's support. She said, "From when I started to now he has always been helping me. I learned a lot from him. (How would you repay him?) I would make his movies at a new comer discount rate." * (2013/02/01) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Association yesterday announced that Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) will receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award for her contribution to promote Asian films. The award will be presented on March 18 at the 7th Asian Film Awards. Yeung Chi King will personally accept the award. Yeung Chi King was very honored. "Asian films and filmmakers are both full of energy and creativity. With the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award, I will continue to work hard to promote Asian films." Event director Roger Garcia praised that Yeung Chi King's incredible talents has led her from actions films in Hong Kong to international works like THE LADY. * (2013/02/01) Alex Fong Chung Shun (originally named Fu Lik)'s father Fu Hei Hoi passed away due to illness at the age of 78. Yesterday funeral services began and today the funeral will take place at the Po Fook Memorial Hall. The ceremony was Buddhist. Fong Chung Shun and his wife Hoyan Mok yesterday arrived early. Fong Ping, Paw Hee Ching and Law Lok Lam paid their respects. Fong Chung Shun sobbed when he remembered his late father. "Last August when I was making A GREAT WAY TO CARE II (YUN SUM GAI MA II), father already confirmed to have stomach cancer. Since he was very old, the family was prepared mentally but he still did his best to treat it. He had chemotherapy 5 times. Originally I planned to pick up Father at the hospital . Last month Father had a fever and the doctor moved him to the intensive car unit. At the time he had to breathe through an oxygen tank and was unable to speak." Fong Chung Shun said that after a few days of fever his father passed away. His sister and family returned to Hong Kong in time to send Father on his final journey. * (2013/02/01) Max Zhang Jun recently with the film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s Ma San won all the applause of the audience and rose in the film industry; yet still some said that he relied on his wife Ada Choi Siu Fun for his opportunity. However how easy would it be to rise on interpersonal relationship in this business today? The former national wushu champion Zhang Jun dared to say that he has suffered for his success; however he still thanked his wife for never looking down on him! Known to be THE GRANDMASTERS villain, Zhang Jun is Choi Siu Fun's husband as well as a national wushu champion. After over a decade in the film industry he finally made a name for himself. How does he feel now and about outside speculation that he relied on his wife for his fame? Z: Zhang Jun, R: Reporter R: Earlier being called husband relying on wife to get rich, this time finally with THE GRANDMASTERS you have an outstanding performance. Do you feel you have proven them wrong? Z: I am very happy about the audience recognition of me, but the accusation of me relying of my wife for fame is false! I never use my wife for speculation because it isn't positive and only has negative results. Instead I would try to avoid being together. I fought for every character myself, but in this business, I have to accept being talked about. Even if I made a few more THE GRANDMASTERS, people would still talk. I can't do anything about that, I can only accept that; I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking that because it's very normal. Show business is for people to talk about, if no one talks about you it's even sadder. R: Do you feel that your wife Choi Siu Fun and child are lucky for your career? Z: It's the Lord's arrangement, nothing is certain. Definitely someone is better than me in martial art, acting and looks. I am lucky, which I would especially cherish. Choi Siu Fun and the children are treasures that the Lord has blessed me with. From now on I would have more opportunities at work and would treat my family even better. Actually my wife already felt that I was good before I made this movie; I thank her very much to appreciate me all along. This is a wife's encouragement for her husband, which isn't easy. Before being recognized, I was already recognized in her heart. She isn't making it up. She understands me more and wouldn't look down on me because I haven't had a representative work after so many years. She instead values someone's ambition. As for me, indeed I wouldn't give up after acting for over ten years without any representative work. I keep on elevating myself. Now I have my representative work, I have a little success so nothing has been wasted. R: Why would Wong Kar Wai cast you? Z: Do you think Wong Kar Wai would approach me because of gossip? Of course not! Wong Kar Wai actually doesn't know me. Yuen Woo Ping introduced me to him. Because when I was a stunt coordinator Lord Eight had his eyes on me. Later when he learned that I was acting he recommended me, but I still had to pass Wong Kar Wai's round. This business is very practical. If you got it you got it, if not get lost. Wong Kar Wai wouldn't cast me because of someone. R: (Tony) Leung Chiu Wai and Zhang Ziyi both complained about how tough THE GRANDMASTERS was to make. Did you feel a lot of pressure? Z: After not making a movie for so long and the director was very demanding for both action and dramatic scenes, you had to have certain ability to endure. Luckily I had the determination, I wouldn't easily say I couldn't. On the other hand I might have learned something in these 3 years that I couldn't have learned over 10 years, I benefited a lot and I rather enjoyed it. Lord Eight and Wong Kar Wai are both my benefactors, Lord Eight with action and Wong Kar Wai with dramatic scenes. Sometimes I still feel very happy, the director liked a little actor lie me, taught me to have a romance with the camera when I act. The camera couldn't restrict me, and I had to lead the camera around. His words seemed mysterious, required for me to digest on my own and mix into the character. Lord Eight and Wong Kar Wai both encouraged me to continue to be a stunt coordinator. I never gave up. During the shoot I still grasped the opportunity to learn next to Lord Eight. R: When you were little you suffered a lot, more so than while making THE GRANDMASTERS. What happened? Z: Around 12, when I should be with my parents being spoiled, I joined the Chengdu professional wushu team. The coach was very mean, the training was very tough. I was really homesick and often cried. After growing up, I started to consider my future. After winning the championship I wanted to retire, but the nation cultivated me. I couldn't just say leave then leave, I struggled a lot about whether to keep on training. At the time I felt nauseous as soon as I saw the training ground, got dizzy and used foul language. Finally I persisted until the 8th athletic games and I was determined to retire. Although I was not permitted to go, was asked to stay on as a coach and to keep on competing, I had to start heading toward my childhood dream of becoming a kung fu star. Because I watched Lee Nin Kit (Jet Li)'s SHAOLIN TEMPLE I studied martial arts. After 10 or 20 years of training, I forgot my martial art training goal. After retirement I started toward this direction. * (2013/01/31) Eva Huang Shengyi recently came to Hong Kong to work on her new film THE ICEMAN COMETH 3D (BING FUNG HUP). Two nights ago when she went to the movies she revealed that working with Donnie Yen Chi Tan has been pleasant. She said, "Chi Tan is very nice, very manly and attentive. He is the action director, so I ask him to give me more fight scenes. I have learned a lot from him." Shengyi had nothing but praise for Chi Tan. Speaking of Stephen Chow Sing Chi who reportedly has cut ties with her due to contract issues she did not criticize Sing Yeh. Instead she supported him, "Reports say he is cheap? I don't know. Saving money is a virtue, as a boss saving money is very normal. He treated me rather well, treating me and a group of people to dinner. As for whether we will work together again that will depend on opportunity. I was younger before, now I am grown. He has his personal style and is very talent. Both as an actor and a director he has his own style." Shengyi felt that no one should always mind what others say because no one could please everyone. She even hinted that her dispute with Sing Yeh has already been resolved and even thanked him. "I thank him very much. Without KUNG FU HUSTLE, with him giving me my start, no one would have a chance to know Huang Shengyi. I should be grateful." * (2013/01/31) Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Gillian Chung Yun Tung, Zhou Chuchu and producer Sin Kwok Lam yesterday attended the IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT (IP MAN JUNG GIK YUT JIN) Beijing press conference. Sin Kwok Lam said that although some questioned with Chau Sun's look and non martial art star status whether he was able to play Ip Man well, he felt that Chau Sun after losing weight resembled Ip Man 90%. Chau Sun has also studied Tai Shing Pek Kwar so he was very agile. Chau Sun in the film had many action scenes. He practiced so much that his arms were swollen. He said, "The fight scene with (Eric) Tsang Chi Wai was very exciting, we both were injured. Although Chi Wai was already 60, he was still powerful. We even joked that we will have to make more action films in the future." Playing Ip Man's disciple Dim Sum girl, Ah Gil studied Wing Chun with Sin Kwok Lam before joining the cast. She said, "I play a couple with Master Sin's disciple Chow Ting Yu. They often instructed me on the set, so the action scenes weren't too tough." * (2013/01/31) Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King), Jang Dong-Gun, Yao Chen, Zhang Jingchu, Pace Wu (Ng Pui Chi) yesterday attended a BVLGARI jewelry event in Beijing. Yeung Chi King and Jang Dong-Gun host the lighting ceremony then spoke with the media. Yeung Chi King revealed that lately she is in negotiation for CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON 2 but she cannot reveal any detail yet. If all goes well it will be truly an enormous challenge for her because the last film was released 13 years ago and a box office and critical hit. It was also the first Chinese film to win the Best Foreign Film Oscar. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, FEBRUARY 6 2013, SPECIAL POOR SYSTEM MAKES VOTE PLANTING EASY Hong Kong Film Awards has always stressed fairness. Yesterday its nominations were announced and average quality co-production films THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) and THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) received numerous nominations. Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun gave average performance in SILENT but still were nominated for Best Actor and Actress, Zhou Xun was even nominated again with THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI). How did this happen? Mainly due to voting system flaws. The Hong Kong Film Award first round voting determines nominations from industry insiders and the professional jury of 100 people's votes. Each side occupied 50%. In general film companies that made more movies would ask industry insiders to vote for their films and actors. Many film professionals would follow in order to save their livelihood. Thus vote planting for big film companies was very easy. Seemingly the time has come for the event to examine the situation, otherwise the Hong Kong Film Awards will continue to be a small circle election. - Lee Chuen 2. MING PAO DAILY, FEBRUARY 6 2013, ACTING BRIEF REVIEW SHEK KEI PRAISES NICK CHEUNG, LAU CHING WAN, ELANNE KONG The competition for Best Actor and Best Actress will be ferocious. How well did the nominees perform? During the film releases film critic Shek Kei and the internet had different reviews. Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai (NIGHTFALL) Shek Kei: Cheung Ka Fai's performance resembles a mad mute, very tough. Internet: the usual intense expression, during close up shots facial features are "scrunched" together into a pile. Chapman To Man Jat (VULGARIA) Shek Kei: To Man Jat plays a Hong Kong film producer who is invited to an university forum. As soon as he starts he states dirty theories like "producers are like pubic hair". The film has sights and sounds and is hilariously absurd. To Man Jat, Matthew Chow HOi Kwong, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei all perform their best. Internet: Ah Jat's performance is lively and life like, like a guy you pass by on the streets you can relate to him. Lau Ching Wan (THE BULLET VANISHES) Shek Kei: The entire's structure is decent, similar to the new version of foreign film SHERLOCK HOLMES yet with a style of its own. Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Lau Ching Wan, one in action and the other in drama, both perform well. Internet: Lau Ching Wan resembles a middle to senior age Uncle "Conan", steady yet humorous. Tony Leung Ka Fai (COLD WAR) Shek Kei: Various actors all give entertaining performance. Tony Leung Ka Fai is the most explosive, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing this time is more mature and steady. Internet: Leung Ka Fai gives an overwhelming performance, in character and holding down the fort. Tony Leung Chiu Wai (THE SILENT WAR) Shek Kei: THE SILENT WAR is made with effort, yet its depiction of the Kuomintang Communist spy war loses realism and is not worth complimenting. Leung Chiu Wai loses luster playing blind. BEST ACTRESS Zhou Xun (THE GREAT MAGICIAN) Shek Kei: Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Mainland character actor Wu Gang all put in a lot of effort, female stars Zhou Xun and Yan Ni give average performance. Internet: The two lead actors' chemistry is so great that Zhou Xun becomes a flower vase, without any way to display her acting. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa (LOVE IN THE BUFF) Shek Kei: Yeung Chin Wa and other Hong Kong women get matched up in Beijing and are ridiculed as "Big Ma". Those embarrassing scenes are even ironic. Shawn Yue Man Lok and Yeung Chin wa both perform well. Internet: Yeung Chin Wa plays herself in every movie, is the character playing Yeung Chin Wa? Or Chin Ya playing the character? Sammi Cheng Sau Man (ROMANCING IN THIN AIR) Internet: The usual Sammi, lacking pleasant surprise. She has many freckles on her face, why not hide it with make up? Zhou Xun (THE SILENT WAR) Shek Kei: Zhou Xun maintains her star feel. Internet: From a woman's angle, Zhou Xun's evening wear, Chinese dress and suit looks are very pretty. Her special agent is rather decent, in particular when flirting with Wang Xueqi. Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam (LOVE LIFTING) Shek Kei: Kong Yeuk Lam plays the female weightlifter convincingly. Her effort is worthy of praise. Internet: Kong Yeuk Lam doesn't look like a mother, but the relationship between her as a single mother and her son makes me cry! 3. MING PAO DAILY, FEBRUARY 3 2013, FILM WORDS "LOST" THAT IS HOT IN THE MAINLAND AND COLD IN HONG KONG LOST IN THAILAND in the Mainland made a crazy 1.26 billion yuan RMB. After becoming the highest grossing Chinese film in history, it is released in Hong Kong in the weak period before the Lunar New Year. A surprise would be hard, conceivably many Hong Kongers do not even know how to read the title clearly. Yet no matter what, the Mainland commercial film trend cannot be overlooked. LOST IN THAILAND Suits The Mainland General Public Taste Currently the Mainland China film market is the world's second largest, exceeding Japan and second only to the U.S. LOST IN THAILAND's revenue is already considered great in Hollywood standard, no wonder the Mainland film market gets more and more international attention. As for this film's predecessor LOST ON JOURNEY, producer Manfred Wong (Man Jun) and director Raymond Yip Wai Man both came from Hong Kong. It depicted the newly risen middle class businessman (Xu Zheng)'s trip home for the Lunar New Year. On the way he ran into a migrant worker (Wang Baoqiang). This odd couple on the road runs into a series of frustrating yet funny events. Its 2012 release was popular and made 50 million yuan. It was not released in Hong Kong. I have seen the video and the film was a successful comedy with a lot of irony. Now Xu Zheng directed and starred in the extension. He again played a businessman who flew to Thailand for the "gas hog" exclusive rights and again formed an odd couple with the Wang Baoqiang played scallion pancake selling "blond" bumpkin. This time had less strange Mainland phenomena and more slapstick stumbles overseas, cooking up an erotic encounter with a transvestite and adventures in a strange land. With Huang Bo as the unrelenting business rival in pursuit, the film was considered cheerful and cute. This one no longer had any Hong Konger in the production, but was still very Hong Kong style with the comedy and the chases. Basically, Hong Kong films very early on shot in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and other Southeast Asian areas. Naturally the film did not feel innovative at all. This film was able to break the Mainland domestic film box office record obviously because it met the Mainland general public entertainment taste, displaying the market needed a pure conventional comedy that was not highly artistic, tragic or sang the official tune. It also reflected that today in the Mainland not only officials and businessmen were able to go overseas, even little scallion pancake vendor can go on vacation. The film had even more intimate feel to ordinary people than the Ge You and Shu Qi starred middle class noveau riche holiday in Hokkaido Japan, IF YOU ARE THE ONE. Xu Zheng's direction actively learned and used Hong Kong style technique and also made fun of modern businessman in trouble overseas as no match for a country kid Wang Baoqiang, who was positive, happy and loyal anywhere he went! Only Conventional, Unexciting Also, Wang Baoqiang was a lucky star of the Chinese film industry in the past ten years. He first played a country kid who was swindled to labor in a coal mine that never saw the light of day in the 2002 Li Yang written and directed BLIND SHAFT, which won a Berlin Film Festival prize. Later his performance in the Feng Xiaogang film A WORLD WITHOUT THIEVES (TIN HA MO CHAK) was outstanding as he truly rose. I also saw him as the blind country kid with exceptional hearing in the television series PLOT AGAINST. He became the surveillance wunderkind in the espionage war between the Kuomintang and the Communists. Tony Leung Chiu Wai played this character in last year's film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) and was far less realistic than Wang Baoqiang. LOST IN THAILAND was only convention and unexciting. Another adventure in Thailand, the U.S. film THE HANGOVER 2 was much more fun. The recent film with a Thailand background THE IMPOSSIBLE captured a realistic disaster tragedy, which also was not something that Chinese films could rival. Undoubtedly, Mainland films should meet Mainlanders' taste, yet Mainland commercial productions still need drastic improvement to be able to compete against Hollywood. Actually now Hong Kong filmmakers still have the advantage. Jackie Chan's new film CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) was a modern large scale action comedy that was far more international than LOST. Although in Hong Kong it only made 10 million, in the Mainland it made almost 900 million yuan RMB. THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) in Hong Kong made HK$20 million, in the Mainland it made almost 300 million. The film has become Wong Kar Wai's best selling and reviewed work. (two and a half out of five stars) GO GRANDRIDERS WINS WITH REALISM This week's new films also include alternative senior films. The Hua Tien-hao directed Taiwan documentary GO GRANDRIDERS wins with complete realism, recording 17 seniors whose average age is 81 on a 13 day motorcycle trip around Taiwan. The Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation organized the entire trip. With any thrill, these ordinary seniors, some ailing and some wounded, remain very excited and never give up. Some seniors recall their military police days under Japanese rule, or their soldier days during the War Against Japanese Aggression and the Civil War. Now they have turned from enemies to friends, one even carries his late wife's photo with his trip. All are very touching. (two and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 3. APPLE DAILY, FEBRUARY 2 2013, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD STANLEY FUNG SHUI FAN: COMING BACK TO MAKE A LIVING IS HARD Whether he was WINNERS AND SINNERS (KEI MAU MIU GAI NG FUK SING)'s Rhino Skin, THE ROMANCING STARS (JING JONG JUI NUI JAI) film series' Lau Ting Kin, or THE CRAZY COMPANIES (JUI GAI SHUEN YAU)'s Bully Fan, Fung Shui Fan's movies have become many Hong Kongers' collection memory. A part of this year's Lunar New Year film I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI), he has been a director, a screen writer and an actor, witnessed the rise and fall of the entertainment circle, in the end "Sut Q" stumped him. "How would I guess that security would be written with an actual Chinese word and the English letter Q? I really am not a Hong Konger." He even stated that he was not used to the day and night production, the expensive Hong Kong meals and would not consider returning to make a television series. - Ho Wai Si Due to political factors Fung Shui Fan immigrated to Taiwan. One would think that he was retired, but actually he never stopped working. He said, "I wasn't very busy, but I never stopped. Otherwise how would I eat? In the Mainland I have been working all along and made a series of movies. Now people are still differentiating between China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, which I object very much. Where you live have no relationship to where you make a movie. People of Hollywood don't make their movies just in Los Angeles. They still grab their suitcases when they make a movie!" This Chinese who has been all over in recently under the invitation of good friend Eric Tsang Chi Wai worked on the Lunar New Year film series I LOVE HONG KONG (NGOR OI HK) for three years in a row. Did he have an addiction to Lunar New Year films? This year in I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 he played a restaurant boss. Fung Shui Fan said, "It's not for fun, but for a living. The one last years had less people, this year's had the most. The director and the screen writers said that this year's was the best, but I don't think so because this year my role wasn't much. I was with (Bosco) Wong Chung Chak the most. With Alan (Tam Wing Lun) I only had one scene and I didn't run into (Veronica) Yip Yuk Hing." Any Food In Hong Kong Is Expensive How did Fung Shui Fan feel about the new generation of actors' performance? He said, "Honestly, I don't have any feeling. It's OK. Because the culture is different, I don't have Hong Kong culture. The most comfortable is being in Taiwan. I don't know how to read the scripts now, I really don't know how to read Cantonese. When I was writing scripts in Hong Kong it was in written language, I don't know how to write in Cantonese. People say they don't understand the written language that I write, so I say haven't you study Chinese in secondary school?" This miscommunication has led to some comedy. Fung Shui Fan said, "Last year when I read the script, after a long time I really didn't know what 'Sut Q' was. I never would have guessed that security would be written with an actual Chinese word and the English letter Q. So I say I really am not a Hong Konger. Stuff like that definitely got me." In the end he said, "Finally I asked someone what 'Sut Q' was? I still recalled when I was at TVB, I have seen someone drawing pictures on the script. He couldn't write the Chinese word. This was BS. We are Chinese, making Chinese shows, why would we write English and draw pictures in the script. I am not afraid of insulting anyone on this, how can you be a screen writer? You can ask the entire world it is still impossible, when you don't know the Chinese word you write an English letter for the transliteration." Finally Fung Shui Fan chose to only return to Hong Kong for movies. He admitted, "When I work here this time, I have at least 11 or 12 days off. Every time I went out to eat it was very tough. A lot of things were right for me, even when I found something good I was by myself. Once I tried to order a set dinner alone and spent over HK$460." He was so upset that he took out his wallet and credit card receipts that were an inch thick. He blasted, "It isn't an identity issue, I can't go to coffee shops. That culture makes me sick. When I go back to Taiwan to pay for this stack of bills, I spent NT$30,000 just on food. Eating is so expensive, I really don't know why it's so expensive. Friday and Saturday they are even filled with people, without any seat. In Taiwan when I have this type of stuff, it's only NT$800. Hong Kong food truly is expensive." Slamming TVB For Not Changing At All TVB was rumored to be interested in asking Fung Shui Fan to make series. If so, it conceivably would have to resolve the food problem for him first. However he said, "No, who said that? I think I really wouldn't. I am not used to this type of productionat all. I heard that now TVB series works all day and night, for what? I am not thinking about it, unless it's very surprising like giving me HK$10 million." Speaking of recent free television license issue problem, Fung Shui Fan also said, "This has nothing to do with me, I don't know how the environment is in Hong Kong now. Taiwan and the Mainland's so-called series are made of film methods, but Hong Kong has never changed. They are still taped at the studio." During the conversion Fung Shui Fan still wanted to make movies the most. "I have to have investors first, I have been thinking about scripts but I can't talk about them yet. I have to think of a script that would pass both myself and others. I really like to make some so-called deep and moves with depth, but they also have to be very commercial." Four Major Scenes In recent years Shaw returns to film and makes Lunar New Year films with subjects that people can relate to, so they have something to look forward to again. This year I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 continues to succeed with laughter. Four of its major scenes have laughter and rage. Release Date: February 7 1. Bosco Wong Eats For Real In the Act Arriving from the Mainland to Hong Kong, Wong Chung Chak was a stranger in a strange land when he rescued Michael Tse Tin Wa from Lo Fun. They became buddies. Tin Wa who liked to boast taught Wong Chung Chak to dine and dash at the restaurant where he worked in hopes of working off his bill so Fung Shui Fan would take in Wong Chung Chak. Thus Tin Wa ordered all the cuisines of the restaurant, with all the delicacies Wong Chung Chak who has been starved all day ate until the bowl bottom was up. 2. Hing Hing Becomes An Erotic Dancer When Tam Wing Lun faced the Tsang Chi Wai played chat fairy, he looked back at his life and seemed to have accomplished nothing. First the restaurant that he firmly stationed at was no more, his wife Yip Yuk Hing also married Tse Tin Wa because he did not appear and was dumped in the end. She went to Sham Shui Po to become a Bollywood erotic dancer and even danced with Kiu Bo Bo (Gill Mohindepaul Singh). 3 Joyce Cheng Blows Out Tin Wa's Fire In the 70s courting involved movies and tea. Both determined to pursue Kate Tsui Tsz Shan, Wong Chung Chak and Tse Tin Wa along with Joyce Cheng Yun Yi who was interested in Tse Tin Wa went to the movies. however after going in they originally thought the cinema was empty but it was completely filled with seniors. They suspected that the cinema was haunted. Later Tin Wa ran into debt collector Lo Fun, who put firecrackers down Tin Wa's pants as a lesson. Yun Yi blew at Tin Wa to save him, Yun Yi's boss Wong Kwong Leung misunderstood them for having an ambiguous relationship. 4. Saving Neighbors Becomes Cross Dressing Playing a star who retired after marriage, Samantha Ko Hoi Ning gave the impression of living a rich wife life but actually her husband left. When she was powerless to take care of her child, Ko Ling could only become an erotic dancer. By chance Wong Chung Chak accompanied the curious Tsui Tsz Shan to the show and recognized Ko Ling as a neighbor. He went back stage to find out what happened. The consultant on many films about the Grand Master, Ip Man's oldest son Ip Chun again became the target of media interviews. Master Ip Chun recalled his father's life, the Grand Master's relationships with disciples were both mentor and friend. Fellow disciple Bruce Lee was not as arrogant as the outside rumored......Ip Chun was like a Grand Master history live dictionary. Ip Chun also critiqued the five female artists who have played his mother, he admired the most Anita Yuen Wing Yi and Mainland artist Han Xue. - HO WING NING Ip Man movies followed one after another, in different version different actors played the Grand Master. First there was Donnie Yen Chi Tan, then Dennis To Yu-Hang, to recently with the GRANDMASTERS release Tony Leung Chiu Wai's gentleman grand master image again made the subject of Ip Man heat up again. Having been consultant on many Ip Man films, Ip Man's oldest son Master Ip Chun earlier said at his school that he believed the Ip Man fever would thrive for awhile because more films and series are on the way. He said, "This year is very cheerful, after THE GRANDMASTERS, later will come the (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun movie about the senior Ip Man, (Kevin) Cheng Ka Wing's television series later will air on TVB JADE HD. Thus the fever will continue, promoting Wing Chun is a good thing. More people will know about it." Wai Jai Is Great At Wing Chun For this interview with the 88 year old Master Ip, he rarely asked to record. Master Ip Said, "Because someone's report was different from what I said I have to record." Like Ip Man movies, magazines, newspaper and even television stations were scrambling for Master Ip Chun. Next week he will speak with another Mainland television station. Having just seen the Leung Chiu Wai starred THE GRANDMASTERS, Master Ip smiled and said that he did not notice famous lines like "A belt carries a breath" in the film. He said, "I go mainly to see whether Wai Jai's kung fu worked, I didn't pay attention to anything else. Actually Wai Jai practiced very well, with a lot of Wing Chun flavor." Speaking of studying martial art in his youth, Ip Chun said that back then his father Ip Chun did not personally teach him Wing Chun. "I remember at the time the Foshan home had an open space in front of the living room. Papa often would practice with his colleagues there. One of them was Uncle Yuen who asked my Papa, 'Why don't you teach Ah Chun?' Papa said that I was too little and didn't have the attention to learn. Finally this Uncle Yuen gave me my start and taught me, at the time I was around 6 or 7." Growing Up Listening To His Father's Instructions Master Ip said that Mr. Yuen was a big deal. At the time Northern martial artists sent people to teach martial arts at the Southern Martial Art Athletic Association. In literature there is no number one, in martial art there is no number two. The Northern and Southern martial artists naturally tested each other. He recalled the situation then, "A Xing Yi Quan master Yu Lejiang came to instruct and boasted in the newspaper back then. Mr. Yuen accepted the challenge and even won a duel, which was in the newspapers." Ip Chun said that back then he was not mature, he had to wait until his 30s before his officially learned from his father. He joked, "Father let me develop on my own since childhood, he didn't force me to learn Wing Chun. When I was truly interested then he taught me. Actually a few years before I officially started learning, I already attended classes for several years, a lot of the theories were already in my belly. Thus I learned as soon as I practiced." At the time Ip Man taught on Castle Peak Road, father and son lived in the school. When Father was teaching Ip Chun did not have any place to sleep and was forced to listen from the side, thus his kung fu came from "listening". As for many Ip Man movie releases, consultant Ip Chun had to face questions from directors and actors. Many interesting topics came up. He said, "Wong Kar Wai and Leung Chiu Wai chatted with me together, but the director asked more than Wia Jai; director Wong Kar Wai asked about a lot of details, he would ask what Father called me, how my family addressed him. I said that Father would call me Ah Chun. In addition he would ask about the decorations at the Foshan home. He was very attentive." Appreciate Han Xue's Portrayal of Mother Master Ip said that if viewers paid attention to the differences between the Ip Mansions in IP MAN and THE GRANDMASTERS, "The Guangdong roof was round edged like in THE GRANDMASTERS, on the other hand the IP MAN roof had corners because it was shot in Shanghai. Thus it only had Jiangnan style mansions available. Those in the know would be able to tell. However Chi Tan paid a lot of attention to the details of Father's lessons to disciples, how he treated disciples, details of his everyday life. Wong Chau Sun would ask about Father's living habits, how he sat, responded, how to wear his Chinese suit." Master Ip revealed that Father in life was very easy going with his disciples and was both a mentor and a friend to them. During free time they would have tea and travel together. In the eyes of other masters he was neither fish nor fowl, Father ignored them and acted on his own. Ip Chun said, "I feel teaching kung fu this life would be even easier." As for the five female stars who have played his mother Cheung Wing Sing on film and in television series, Master Ip appreciated two more. "Among them who portrayed Mother, I thought Yuen Wing Yi was the prettiest, between Song Hye-Kyo, Hung Doi Lam (Lynn Xiong), Han xue and Huang Yi, Han Xue who played Cheng Ka Wing's wife had the most aura." As for Ip Man's best known disciple Bruce Lee, Master Ip said that he met him several times. Bruce Lee was not as arrogant as reported back then. Ip Chun said, "We were disciple siblings, I met him a few times. I didn't think he was arrogant. Maybe Bruce's relationship with the media was poor, which led to so many negative reports." Ip Man Improves The Wooden Practice Stump Ip Man was known as the grand master of course because he successfully spread Wing Chun. Master Ip Chun revealed that Father even improved the practice wooden stump. He said that back then in Foshan the bottom of the wooden stump was planted into the ground. He said, "The Foshan home had a lot of space, the bottom of the stump was planted into the ground like pillars. It was very stable." However when Ip Man immigrated to Hong Kong and taught martial arts, the problem appeared. Ip Chun said, "Where would Hong Kong have the space for you to plant the stump? It would have busted through the ceiling. Later Father and a carpenter came up with moutning the stumpt to the wall." Since then this method was spread. Lamented The Difficulty of Passing On The Staff Technique In addition, aside from Wing Chun fist, he was also famous for six point half-length staff and eight chop swords. However due to limited space fewer and fewer people knew the staff technique. Ip Chun said, "The authentic six point half-length staff was 9 foot 6 inch long. Even if it was improved to 7 foot 2 inch, where would Hong Kong have such a large space for you to practice? I remember In the Ip Man era when the sibling disciples wanted to practice they had to drive to Monkey Hill. The staff was longer than the car, in the car it had to carry a red cloth. Thus fewer and fewer studied it. Even if you learned it I had no one to practice with, it became useless." [ In Production Now/Soon ] HARDCORE COMEDY Can : Chong Hau Mei Lit : Heavy Flavor d.
