* (2013/01/16) The Stephen Chow Sing Chi directed, Shu Qi, Wen Zhang 
starred new film JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) will be 
released on February 7 in Hong Kong.  Shu Qi received Sing Yeh's 
appointment to perform the theme song LOVE OF A LIFETIME, the music video 
of which was recently unveiled.  She coordinated with the elegant dance 
scene in the film.
	The film's new promotional video revealed computer generated 
special effect scenes that included giant fish jumping out of the water, 
Piggy's transformation, and Huang Bo as the Monkey King shattering a 
Buddha statue with one punch.

* (2013/01/16) Two nights ago a "microblog night" was held in Beijing.  
Chow Yun Fat who does not have a microblog presence said that he used 
his wife's account.  He said that before he had no idea how large the 
microblog world was.  Now to him it is very fresh.  However he did not 
plan to launch his own microblog because he did not have time to connect 
with everyone.  He would just greet everyone through his wife.  In March 
he will work with Andrew Lau Wai Keung ona new film.

* (2013/01/16) Joey Yung Cho Yi yesterday attended Swarovski Styling Day.  
Her good friend Chapman To Man Jat with DIVA won the Hong Kong Film Critic 
Society award Best Actor.  The film's lead actress Joey Yung said that 
she already congratulated him, but she was not disappointed that no one 
won the Best Actress award.  "Ah Jat only has a chance to win because of 
me, he definitely has to buy me dinner.  Although the peony is nice, it 
still needs green leaf support.  I didn't steal his spotlight and 
deliberately let him perform thoroughly.  I am only a film industry new 
comer, I am happy for him."

* (2013/01/16) The Leon Lai Ming's management company and Nandu media 
organized 1st Chinese short film media award took place on the 14th in 
Shenzhen.  Lai Ming even personally led artists Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi 
Ting), Janice Man Wing Shan, JW, attended in support.  The event presented 
8 awards to encourage even more new power that is interested in film.  Lai 
Ming even announced that "2013 New Director Take Off Project" as 4 
extended micro movies will be made with famous directors as their 
producers to assist new comers fulfill their dreams.

* (2013/01/16) Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Andy Tien (On Chi Kit), Daniel Wu (Ng 
Yin Cho) and director Dante Lam Chiu Yin's film MOR GAING (DEMON COP) 
yesterday held a production start ceremony at the Ma On Shan Country 
Park.  Boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing personally visited to offer 
encouragement.
	Lam Chiu Yin said that the script was based on the demon cop Tsui 
Po Ko's gun case and put Tsui's loner personality into the character.  
Cheung Ka Fai said, "I play a cop who can be good or bad, the performance 
has no shade of Tsui Po Ko.  However this case was very shocking back 
then, I would study it a little."  Cheung Ka Fai recently worked on 
several police films, he would like to try a ghost film next time.  He 
joked, "It doesn't have to be murder and arson every time, I want to try 
something new.  Actually I am the most afraid of ghosts, no money in the 
wallet and work at 6AM."
	Cheung Ka Fai earlier broke his finger while working on GIK JIN 
(EXTREME WAR), the finger tissue did not heal well and the doctor 
suggested a minor surgery to connect it again.  After MOR GAING and the 
Benny Chan Muk Sing directed THE CARTEL WAR (BIN YIK) he will have the 
operation, now on the set he would be more cautious.  "I didn't blame 
Lam Chiu Yin for the injury, instead I cherish the chemistry that we 
have built over the years."
	On Chi Kit currently is busy with two films.  He did not know 
whether he will be with his girlfriend Jennifer Tse Ting Ting on 
Valentine's Day, but they have already made plans to go on a holiday in 
March or April.  Will he take the chance to propose?  On Chi Kit said, "I 
don't know, If I propose it would be a surprise for her.  Maybe we will 
wed this year, I want a small wedding but we won't wed in secret."

* (2013/01/16) Fiona Sit Hoi Kei in the Lunar New Year film HOTEL DELUXE 
(BAK SING JAU DIM) played a rich girl who was looking for a husband 
through Ronald Cheng Chung Kei.  Comedy ensued from her husband finding 
mission.  Sit Hoi Kei said, "Although it was my first collaboration with 
Cheng Chung Kei, we got familiar very quickly and had a lot of chemistry."  
	Cheng Chung Kei joked that he needed a raise to work with Sit Hoi 
Kei next time.  Because her rotten gags hypnotized him, they both could 
not help but laugh; in additional Sit Hoi Kei's Chinese was so poor that 
she had no idea what other people were laughing at.  She needed him to 
interpret.

* (2013/01/16) Hong Kongers grew up with Stephen Chow Sing Chi's movies.  
Yesterday after many learned about Sing Yeh being named to the Guangdong 
Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative 
Conference, they were not only surprised but also immediately thought of 
his classic FROM BEIJING WITH LOVE (GOK CHAN LING LING CHAT), in which the 
Law Kar Ying played Tat Man Sai said to Sing Yeh, "The nation finally has a 
duty for him."  Sing Yeh in the film played the Central spy "Ah Chat" 
who like the Political Consultative Conference "services the nation".  Ah 
Chat was classified as an unacceptable agent and could only be a down on 
his luck butch at the market.  After learning about his new mission, he 
said, "After so many years, I thought the nation has already forgotten 
about me".  Some online continued to quote from the film, "Even a pair of 
underwear, a sheet of toilet paper has its purpose!"
	In addition, Passion Times even had a parody with the still from 
the film and even called Chow Sing Chi "Comrade".

* (2013/01/15) The 2012 Hong Kong Film Critic Society award yesterday 
announced its winners.  Chapman To Man Jat with DIVA defeated Tony Leung 
Ka Fai to win Best Actor, but in a rare occasion no one won Best Actress.  
The reason was in 2012 Hong Kong film provided limited space to develop 
for actresses.  The judges after ferociously debates made this difficult 
decision.  The award ceremony will take place in early March.
	Aside from To Man Jat winning Best Actor, other awards included 
Best Picture MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU), Best Director went to MOTORWAY's Soi 
Cheang Pou-Soi and THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN)'s Dante Lam Chiu Yin, Best 
Screenplay was to ROMANCING IN THIN AIR's Wai Ka Fai, Yau Nai Hoi, Chan 
Wai Bun and Au Man Kit.
	The event said that Best Actor was this year's most hotly debated 
category.  To Man Jat was nominated with DIVA and LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI 
OI) against COLD WAR (HONG JIN)'s Leung Ka Fai; To Man Jat won with DIVA 
because as the "villain" manager he performed with body and intonation 
rhythm and gave the devil character more human layers to make viewers both 
love and hate him.  To Man Jat happily said, "DIVA is my first villain 
role, and as the producer I thank investor (Albert) Yeung Sau Sing for 
his trust and support.  The cast and crew are my source of pride, I also 
thank the cinematographer for shooting me without my actual ugliness."  
Joey Yung Cho Yi said that To Man Jat in her heart was not only the Best 
Actor but also the Best Producer, through his performance he drove other 
actors' emotions and performance.
	The Best Actress went to no one, which the event explained because 
members felt 2012 Hong Kong films gave actresses limited space to perform, 
after fierce debates and voting they decided on this result.  Soi Cheang 
Pou-Soi and Lam Chiu Yin both won Best Director, during the voting 
process MOTORWAY and THE VIRAL FACTOR competed ferociously and twice had 
the same vote counts.  Finally both won.  Cheang Pou-Soi thanked Johnnie 
To Kei Fung for giving him the opportunity and also his late partner Szeto 
Kam Yuen.  Lam Chiu Yin said that he was nervous.  "The award brought 
recognition to me and the team."

* (2013/01/15) Jackie Chan's CZ12 (SUP YI SUN CHIU) Mainland box office 
passed 800 million yuan RMB to become China's highest grossing action 
film.  The film was also a hit in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, the 
overseas box office champion among recent Chinese films.  Next week its 
total box office will break 1 billion.  CZ12 was released on December 20 
in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.  As of January 13, it 
continued to reach high heights at the box office.  Jackie Chan said, 
"If Chinese film wants to rival Hollywood film and be a hit around the 
world, they can only rely on real kung fu and real action.  This is 
China's specialty."
	Jackie Chan is currently in the Mainland to work on the Emperor 
new film NEW POLICE STORY 2013 with Liu Ye, who two nights ago posted 
online about prop theft and even said that director Ding Sheng and the 
team hid in the bushes to catch the thief at night but to no avail.  The 
police has already promised to follow up.

* (2013/01/15) Lee Lik Chi yesterday appeared on the radio.  Wong Jing, 
Tin Kai Man and others blasted Stephen Chow Sing Chi recently for being 
cheap.  Lee Lik Chi felt that it was only film speculation news.  "Being 
cheap isn't important, having talent is the most important.  He has to be 
unscrupulous to be able to come up with a lot of comedy.  Chow Sing Chi 
and I didn't part ways with any unpleasantness.  He wanted to change jobs 
and become a director, but he didn't need to stop being an actor.  
However his choice of his peak CJ7 as his final film would be decent as 
well."  He believed that the big stars of JOURNEY TO THE WEST will make 
it a hit and predicted that it will be able to surpass Jackie Chan's CZ12 
(SUP YI SUN CHIU) and the 1 billion yuan box office mark.

* (2013/01/15) The Wong Kar Wai directed THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG 
SI) after a week in release in the Mainland already passed 180 million 
yuan RMB at the box office, after 4 days in Hong Kong release it broke 
HK$8 million.  THE GRANDMASTERS began a Grand Master Storm as THE 
GRANDMASTERS kung fu tea and Tony Leung Chiu Wai hat sales have been 
heating up online.
	Industry insiders also supported THE GRANDMASTERS.  Taiwan 
director Giddens Ko described it as an "early Republic martial art epic, 
Leung Chiu Wai at his most handsome"; European and American media also 
gave high praises to the film, describing it as "a daring beginning of 
an innovative artistic territory".  Wong Kar Wai also received praise 
for merging the traditional Chinese kung fu and high technology.

* (2013/01/14) TVB Jade Solid Gold Best 10 Awards presented 43 awards 
without any surprise last night.  Raymond Lam Fung got his wish as he won 
his first "Most Popular Male Singer" Award, Joey Yung Cho Yi as the big 
winner won her 8th "Most Popular Female Singer" award and 4.5 awards.  
Twins after 5 years again won "Asia Pacific Most Popular Female Singer" 
award, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin accepted the prize in tears.  Taiwan group 
Lollipop F won its first "Asia Pacific Most Popular Male Singer" award.  
Ivana Wong Yuen Chi was unable to repeat as the Asia Pacific Female 
Singer still won the "Gold Song Gold Prize" with WHITE SPACE (LAU BAK).
	TVB exercised its "no award for absentee" principle, with the 
unresolved royalty issue with the four major record labels Lam Fung had 
no competition and avenged his TVB Best Actor general election defeat 
with his first "Most Popular Male Singer".  With his "Asia Pacific Most 
Popular Male Singer" and "Gold Song Gold Prize" in the past, he finally 
has won all three major awards as he wanted.
	Last night the 3 awards winner Lam Fung said, "I have never 
thanked my family, this time I have to thank them.  I also have to thank 
my fans.  As long as I am still on the stage one day, I would bring the 
best music to everyone."  He already expressed that he would still keep 
singing.  When he accepted the Gold Song Award for NAIVETY ENDS, Eric 
Tsang Chi Wai as an elder consoled him and advised him not to mind what 
others said.  He cited Alan Tam Wing Lung was criticized for winning too 
many awards and decided to retire from award shows as an example and said 
that it was very regrettable for the music scene to lose a superstar.  he 
asked him to be himself.  Lam Fung then stressed that he did not want to 
retire from accepting awards.
	Joey won 4.5 awards to become the big winner.  The 8 time "Most 
Popular Female Singer" said that every time she won the award her heart 
would still beat like crazy, she needed fans to keep cheering for her.  
Winning the Asia Pacific Most Popular Female Singer award again after 5 
years, Twins' Ah Sa emotionally embraced Ah Gil and cried.  She said that

	Wong Yuen Chi's TVB series INBOUND TROUBLES (LO BIU, NEI HO YEH!) 
will air soon.  Her record company fought for her to win "Gold Song Gold 
Prize", but when the result was announced she mouthed "Really?" and said 
that she was surprised.  On television Joey Yung's mouth was left gaping, 
perhaps she too felt it was a surprise?
	Without competition from the four major record labels' singers, 
many singers won their first awards especially TVB artists and The VOICE 
singers.  Two nights ago winners like Linda Chung Ka Yun, Mag Lam Yun 
Tung, Alfred Hui Ting Hung, Lam Fung, Fala Chen, Hubert Wu Hung Kwan, Jay 
Fung Won Him were all "TVB people".  Singers said "Thank you Ms. Lok 
(Elaine Lok Yi Ling)" the most.  Record company big winner was Emperor 
with 13 awards.  The TVB variety program chief Yu Wing San's husband Ho 
Jit To run Star Shine Entertainment won 6 awards and came in second.
	Lam Yun Tung lost her voice last year, then she was rumored to 
suffer from depression and anorexia.  After over half a year in recovery, 
Lam Yun Tung last night performed for the first time.  Her voice was as 
beautiful as it was before as she returned to form and put those who 
worried about her at ease.  She was still a little thin.  Lam Yun Tung 
with TREE VINE won a Gold Song award and her duet with Joey Yung, THE KITE 
CHASING KIT, also won the "Most Popular Duet" silver prize.
	G.E.M. (Tang Chi Kei) last night won the first Gold Song award.  
Recently she was upset at the Commercial Radio award show and had elder 
Jenny Tseng (Yun Nei) call her impolite.  During her speech she continued 
to take jabs at Commercial Radio and elder singers.  "Many unfair things 
have happened in this society, like older people bullying younger ones 
and suppression.  I feel I shouldn't submit to any power."  Later she was 
asked what advice she had for new artists.  G.E.M. joked, "You have to 
greet people!  You have to be polite to people!"
	Terence Siufay with ONE SONG won a Gold Song award.  He was 
emotional as he accepted the award, especially when he mentioned giving 
this award to his father who just passed away.  Siufay thanked Paco Wong 
and singers who started at the same time as he did, which also made Paco 
Wong teary eyed.
	Jade Kwan Sum Yin a year ago accidentally "robbed Susanna Kwan 
Kuk Ying of her award".  Last time with HEART BREAK PHILOSOPHY she won a 
Gold Song award.  Tsang Chi Wai announced the winning singer as if he was 
announcing a phone call.  "As soon as Sister Kuk's name is named, this 
person would come out."  Kwan Sum Yin hesitated.  She joked, "Today my 
friends told me Sister Kuk won't be coming.  Thank you everyone for 
presenting the award to me in such a special way."
	Luisa Lai Chi San's popularity rose rapidly from her TELLING MARIA 
hosting gig.  Last night she, Tsang Chi Wai and Amigo Choi Kin Bong were 
the hosts.  Started as a singer, Lai Chi San's antique GIRL MAGAZINE 
music video was aired.  Chi Wai described Lai Chi San as a singing star 
ancestor and immediately told her to perform.  She as the first guest with 
30 dancers performed Sammi Cheng Sau Man's X PARTY to win the audience's 
applause.
	Reportedly numerous singers declined the Asia Pacific Male 
Singer award and TVB could only present it to Taiwan group Lollipop F. 
Tsang Chi Wai joked, "If they don't want it either, I will take this 
award!  I am 'Law Lai (Lolli) Shui' (cause his own trouble)!  Maybe I 
am 'Law Lai (Lolli) Siu' (to be laughed at)!"
	When Lam Fung won his first Asia Pacific Male Singer he was made 
fun of as "Argyle Street and Prince Edward Road Most Popular Male Singer".  
Chi Wai joked, "Is Sai Yeung Choi Street included?  This street is 
amazing, even the Lunar New Year film is shot here.  It represents most 
Hong Kongers!"

* (2013/01/14) Shawn Yue Man Lok, Chapman To Man Jat, Derek Tsang Kwok 
Cheung worked on the Pang Ho Cheung directed new film FEI FU JING YING ji 
TOH PIU CHOOK JING (FLYING TIGER ELITE: PACKAGE EXPEDITION) yesterday held 
a worship ceremony in Mongkok.  Passersby looked on and took photos, 
hindering traffic.  The police urged pedestrians to return to the 
sidewalk.  To Man Jat played the Special Duties Unit captain who leads 
his team members to Macau for sex services to relieve stress.  In the 
film some actresses will give nude performances with other actors.
	To Man Jat said, "In the story I smuggle the SDU members into 
Macau for sex services.  Yue Man Lok's character is straight laced and 
opposes me.  Many new female Mainland actresses will participate and 
perform nude scenes.  Will he be fully nude?  I would challenge my 
bottom line, Old Lady (Krystal) Tin Nui Nei has no objection.  As long as 
I get paid it's fine."  To Man Jat once entertained at night clubs for 
work, but never took any escort out.  "The ladies asked for autographs 
and photos, it was more like I was entertaining them."
	Yue Man Lok aside from on film has never been to a night club.  
In the film all the seduction and sex scenes were To Man Jat's 
responsibilities.  "I am not watching myself, I don't have any figure to

Tsang Chi Wai revealed that his father Eric Tsang Chi Wai might guest 
star.  Speaking of Chi Wai and Kenny Wee's case, Tsang Kwok Cheung said

* (2013/01/14) Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Zhang Ziyi and other actors continue 
to promote their film THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) nonstop.  Wai 
Jai promoted in Guangzhou with Ip Man's oldest son Ip Chun and Max Zhang 
Jun.  The outside generally praised Wai Jai as Ip Man had a grand master 
aura.  Wai Jai humbly said that now at this age he would not lose his 
head over compliments but would appreciate everyone's support very much.  
He has already used his greatest strength as an actor to perform.  Wai Jai 
even said that he believed he had to watch the film until the 9th time 
before he would be done, because he watched the first time for what 
scenes were removed, the second time for his own expressions, the third 
time or other actors' performance, the fourth time for the story 
structure, the fifth time for costumes and sets, the sixth to the ninth

	Zhang Ziyi went to Beijing cinemas for close distance exchanges

the Eight Diagram palm with the audience.  Would actors blame directors 
who work slowly like Wong Kar Wai?  Zhang Ziyi said that the energy that 
he put in would definitely be more than that of the actors.  Thus she 
loved Wong Kar Wai for giving a lot from body and soul; she even revealed 
that she will work on a John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) directed film soon.
	Wong Jing earlier online took a jab at Wong Kar Wai for spending 
so much time and money on THE GRANDMASTERS, but after watching the film 
yesterday he finally praised Wong Kar Wai online.
	Yesterday morning Wong JIng wrote, "I realize that people who 
dislike THE GRANDMASTERS really don't understand what his intention is.  
Do you think Wong Kar Wai can't make the entire film as exciting and 
entertaining as the battle in the rain and Ziyi eradicating Zhang Jun at 
the train station?  However that would be no different from (Wilson) Yip 
Wai Shun's, he must use all of Wong Kar Wai's style to make this film 
well in order for it to be a real success!  I admire that you are able to 
withstand countless pressure to make the movie like this.  From 1988 to 
now, this is the first time that I completely concede."  

* (2013//01/14) Law Chung Him, Oscar Leung Lit Wai, Philip Ng Won Lung 
and Jacqueline Chong Si Man two nights ago attended the film YOUNG AND 
DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) audience 
appreciation event where they played games with the audience to give away 
prizes.
	Wai Wai said that the box office response was ideal.  In order to 
thank viewers for their support they went to the cinema for audience 
appreciation.  How would they celebrate if the film became a hit?  Wai 
Wai joked that if the box office passed 2 million he wanted Chong Si Man 
to streak.  Chong Si Man immediately said, "So little?  It at least has 
to be over 10 million, but I would only show you."  Wai Wai also suggested 
for the film company to treat the cast to the Macau Observation Tower for 
an unprecedented group bungee jump.  Were they confident about beating 
THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)?  Chong Si Man said that their genres 
were different so any comparison would be difficult;  Wai Wai said that 
viewers had different tastes, the most important was for Hong Kong film 
to perform well.  He too would support THE GRANDMASTERS.  Speaking of 
many viewers dressing up like YOUNG AND DANGEROUS to go to the movie, Wai 
Wai said, "They are just supporting the film, they are all good citizens."  
	Him Jai said that his friends and family after watching YOUNG AND 
DANGEROUS said that it was decent, and he breathed a sigh of relief.  
"During the shoot many voices arose, some good some not so good.  However 
I only focused on acting; in addition I would ask my family for opinions, 
they were very objective.  They would say good or bad directly, if it was 
bad they definitely would slam it."  How did rumored girlfriend Tavia Yeung 
Yi rate it?  "I don't have if she has seen it or not, but I believe she 
will buy her own ticket to support it.  Book a show and watch it together?  
I don't have to be so deliberate, it's fine for her to give her opinions 
after watching it."

* (2013/01/13) Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) in Hong 
Kong after two days in release accumulated HK$2.82 million at the box 
office (excluding late shows).  With stronger and stronger momentum it 
pulls away from the same week release, Wong Jing's YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: 
RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: GONG WU SUN DIT JUI); the latter accumulated only 
HK$860,000 over two days.
	Wong Kar Wai initially cut THE GRANDMASTERS into a 4 hour 
edition.  Due to running time restriction he cut it down to the current 
release of 130 minutes; many scenes were "missing". Yesterday the film 
company distributed the second production special, in the 3 minute and 
41 second content many removed scenes reappeared.  Wai Jai personally 
explained Ip Man and talked about his kung fu training.
	In Leung Chiu Wai's eyes Ip Man was mild mannered and elegant, he 
did not resemble a kung fu person; he rose and fell and in the end he was 
able to calmly be himself.  Wong Kar Wai hoped that Wai Jai's Ip Man 
performance would be a mix of Ip Man and Bruce Lee.  He tried to combine 
them for the effect.  Wai Jai said that Ip Man was enjoyed kung fu as much 
as Bruce Lee but normally he was so mild mannered that no one knew he 
could fight.
	When he explored the character, he thought that the character 
appearance could be expressed through technique.  Yet if he did not 
understand the inside of the character he had no way to express its aura, 
which was not something that could be achieved over night; this his long 
term training was necessary.  He broke his arm twice, the first time was 
a hair line fracture, the second time was already as severe as saw tooth; 
everything he did was for THE GRANDMASTERS.
	In the production special the removed scenes included Wai Jai and 
Song Hye-Kyo's sweet romantic couple scene, Wai Jai sweetly smiled with 
Sister Kyo in his arms.  When the Japanese military arrived, they got into 
a struggle and Sister Kyo slapped him.  Chang Chen in the release did not 
face Wai Jai.  His appearance with a razor to fight Wai Jai was also 
unveiled.  The production special even uncovered that Ip Man once visited 
Master Gong Er in the Northeast.  Wai Jai in the drifting snow passed 
through the plum blossom courtyard, where they encountered each other 
again.
	THE GRANDMASTERS decoding even had Julian Cheung Chi Lam as two 
characters, not only the Chinese Opera actor but also Zhang Ziyi's fiance.  
In this scene he only made an appearance in a flash.

* (2013/01/12) Three hunky "detectives" Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Lau Ching Wan 
and Louis Koo Tin Lok two nights ago worked on the Universe new film THE 
CARTEL WAR (BIN YIK) on the streets of Jordan.  Many neighbors looked on 
and some kept taking photos with their phones.  The crew had to keep 
stopping them to prevent hindering the production progress.  In a car Ka 
Fai had a long lens for a surveillance scene.  A housewife said to her 
friend, "Hey, Best Actor Cheung Ka Fai!  It's pretty handsome, but he's a 
little thinner in real life!"
	Looking exhausted, Ka Fai rarely spoke and only studied the 
character with director Benny Chan Muk Sing occasionally.  Actually 
recently he is also working on the Dante Lam Chiu Yin new film MOR GAING 
(DEMON POLICE).  Because the two film characters were different, his 
mental state was pushed to its extreme.  Ka Fai said, "I have never worked 
on two films at once in over ten years, the characters also have drastic 
differences.  In the film I am a righteous cop, in that one I commit 
murder and arson.  I really am close to a personality split!  It's very 
tough, but what can I do.  The schedules happen to clash.  Next time I 
will try to avoid this, I can't take it!  (Some people say you are thin.)  
Because earlier I had to get in shape for the movie, but I don't want to 
get fat again in such a short time.  It wouldn't be healthy.  I am 
waiting to slowly return to normal."
	Earlier Ka Fai while working on MOR injured his finger and led to 
bone deformities.  He helplessly said that he could only have surgery, 
after which he would have to spend two weeks in a cast.  Thus he would 
wait until May when he would finish both films before the operation.
	Earlier Ka Fai was caught driving his 7 year old daughter 
Brittany to the park in his 2.6 million sports car.  He said that he and 
his wife Esther Kwan Wing Ho were both busy with work, thus he took 
advantage of the free time to be with his daughter.  "My daughter whines!  
She said we kept working all day, so I regret letting my wife going back 
to TVB for a series a little.  However I know she has an acting bug and 
is working with good friend (Bobby) Auyeung Chun Wa.  It should be 
pretty fun!"

* (2013/01/12) Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin) in January last year served his 
military term at the "high age" of 29 and was assigned to New Taipei 
City Government Education Department for a substitute service.  Since he 
performed well, as the Golden Horse Best Actor worked on 7 Taiwan City 
Government promotional ads in one breath and served as the New Taipei 
Holiday Art School lecturer, he saved the government a lot of promotional 
fee.  He chose to donate blood before the end of his service and received 
another day of "holiday".  Yesterday at 5PM he personally went to Banqiao 
Stadium to pick up his military retirement certificate and officially 
end his military life.  When Siu Tin appeared the media flocked to him.  
He said that after his service he became more patient.  After his 
retirement he really wanted to return home to Taichung because he has not 
been with his family for a long time.  He did not have any plan to 
celebrate with his girlfriend Tiffany Hsu.
	Before his military service Siu Tin had an agreement with Peter 
Chan Ho Sun.  Famous director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's new film THE ASSASSIN

Doze Niu Chen-Zer's new film MILITARY PARADISE also has Siu Tin locked in 
for the first lead.  He said, "I am scared.  If Director Doze won't make 
me suffer he won't give up."  On the 13th he will fly ot Milan for a 
fashion show.  Because he has not "face the masses" in a long time, he 
said that he was perturbed.
	As Siu Tin "regained freedom", many Hong Kong producers and 
directors have their eyes on him.  Paco Wong and Wong Jing praised him to 
be a good actor.  The former even said, "With a director and a right 
script, I won't eliminate the possibility of a collaboration."  Universe's 
Daneil Lam Siu Keung admitted that he was already interested in working 
with Siu Tin before his military service; Chapman To Man Jat who has 
participated in film producer work also said, "I remember very much in 
MY QUEEN he and Cheryl Yang had a break up scene on the roof, which got 
me crying.  An idol actor with acting abilities is very rare, a chance to

* (2013/01/12) International superstar Jackie Chan continues his daring 
ways on a recent television interview as he criticizes the U.S. as the 
world's most corrupted country.  He said, "If you are talking about 
corruption, in the entire world, does the U.S. have corruption?  It is 
the world's most corrupted."
	The host questioned, "Really?"  Jackie Chan answered with 
certainty, "Of course."  He said that he would say the same thing when 
interviewed in the U.S.  Jackie Chan's comment immediately led to 
controversy.  Some in the U.S. said that Jackie Chan's comment reflected 
certain level of Anti-Americanism in the Mainland.

* (2013/01/12) Director Ronny Yu Yun Tai and producer Raymond Wong Pak 
Ming yesterday led Adam Cheng Siu Chau, Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Yu Bo, Vic Chou 
Yu Man, Wu Chun, and Raymond Lam Fung held a press conference to promote 
their April 4 new film release SAVING GENERAL YANG (JUNG LIT YEUNG GA 
JEUNG).  The film company announced that the cast will be memorialized on 
stamps, but the media focus remained on Chou Yu Man being caught with his 
rumored girlfriend Reen Yu during New Year's Eve firework.  Jai Jai played 
deaf and looked upset when asked about his personal life and only replied 
with "I can't respond" to the cohabitation rumors.
	Chou Yu Man yesterday and other actors dressed up for the 
occasion.  He deliberation went without socks and stole the spotlight.  
Speaking of the production he was happy and excited.  He said that because 
he played Yang's third son, he suggested growing facial hair to the 
director thinking that it would make the character more convincing.  The 
result look made him look older than Cheng Siu Chau who played his father.
	When asked about his love life, Jai Jai immediately took back his 
smile and looked upset.  Did he watch the firework with his rumored

questions is meaningless.  Everyone please ask questions about the

	Wu Chun said that in the film he would show a little muscle but 
would not be too deliberate.  During the shoot he also personally cooked 
Brunei delicacies shrimp cake and curry fried rice for everyone and 
received uniform raves.  Jai Jai seemed to be in love, when would it be 
his turn?  He saw how awkward Jai Jai looked and said, "Let it take its

	The director Yu Yun Tai said that during meals Lam Fung did not

Yu Yun Tai's script attracted him.  In addition in the film he was able 
to play the father of so many hunks, he decided to return to the silver 
screen to play General Yang.  With his memorable heroic image Chau Guoon 
was no less popular with the several famous young stars.  The number of 
fans rivaled the younger Cheng Yi Kin and Lam Fung's.
	As for his daughter Joyce Cheng Yun Yi's rapid weight gain, Chau 
Guoon said, "I have never seen her in two weeks, that can't be right!  I 
don't think she is fat.  It's very hard for her to be as thin as me, no 
one should have such high demand for her.  I would tell her to stay fit 
and give her time."  Ekin supported Yun Yi and said, "I feel weight isn't 
a problem for artists.  I have seen Yun Yi on the stage and thought she 
was very professional."
	Ekin admitted that he has followed his manager Sandy Lam San San 
to East Asia, even his company base was moved.  He said that he was not 
worried about the the competition at East Asia due to the number of people 
at the company because his work has always been on automatic.  Did he get 
a lot for the transfer?  He joked that Lam San San might, he has never

he moved to Emperor and he was set aside?  Ekin said, "I am not worried!

	Mainland actor Yu Bo played Yang's second son.  Earlier when he 
worked with Myolie Wu Hung Yi on a television series in Shanghai, he was 
accused of being the third party between Hung Yi and Bosco Wong Chung 
Chak and causing them to break up.  Yesterday Yu Bo said that he has never 
heard that rumor and admitted that he did not know Wong Chung Chak.  
Although he was accused of being the third party, he has not been upset 
because of it.  He felt that the most important was he never did it, so he

personally cooked for the cast and the team.  He said that because he

series originally needed to shoot for 75 days but he only had 50 days to

* (2013/01/12) The Stephen Chow Sing Chi produced, directed and written, 
Shu Qi, Wen Zhang, Huang Bo and Chrissie Chau Sau Na starred JOURNEY TO 
THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) will be released on February 7 for the 
Lunar New Year film and on February 10 in the Mainland on the Lunar New 
Year's Day.  Yesterday its stills and production special were unveiled.
	In JOURNEY TO THE WEST, aside from the Shu Qi played demon 
taming heroine and Wen Zhang played Chen Xuanzang (young Venerable Monk 
Tang), the comedy team also had Sing Yeh's KUNG FU HUSTLE and CJ7 (CHEUNG 
GONG CHUT HO) classic support players Jiro Lee Seung Ching and Fung Min 
Hung as well as new additions like Huang Bo, Show Luo (Law Chi Cheung) 
and Chau Sau Na.  Playing the Sand Monk, Lee Seung Ching also had to 
perform in the buff with Wen Zhang.
	In the production special Sing Yeh was very attentive to Shu Qi.  
He personally demonstrated every stunt.  In Shu Qi's fight against 
monsters Sing Yeh displayed his style.  Shu QI and Huang Bo's dance scene 
also had a comedy feel.  Sing Yeh also revealed that he played an 
important character for viewers to find.
	When two generations of sexy stars Shu Qi and Chau Sau Na ran 
into each other, they held back their sexiness for comedy.  Sister Na 
did not feel Sing Yeh was serious at all.  She said, "Everyday was spent 
in laughter."  Many compared the Huang Bo played Sun Wukong with Sing 
Yeh's in CHINESE ODYSSEY.  Huang Bo said that this time Sun Wukong was not 
handsome.  Because he was trapped for 500 years he was balding.

* (2013/01/12) THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s single day opening 
box office was HK$1.32 million.  The film had many memorable scenes.  In 
order to bring to life the Northern and Southern martial art world, the 
film shot on location in Northeast China and Guangdong.  Playing the 
Northern Eight Diagram palm master Zhang Ziyi shot many major scenes in 
the Northeast.  Zhang Ziyi and Max Zhang Jun who played her elder shot a 
shocking battle at the train station.  The aesthetic atmosphere of her 
practicing Eight Diagram palm in the drifting snow was also a bright spot 
in the film.  However behind the elegance, Zhang Ziyi had to tolerate the 
Northeast temperature of 30 degrees below zero.  Later she still 
lamented, "I am not willing to experience it again."
	On the other hand, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Chang Chen earlier 
appeared on Cable Entertainment Station and said that the kung fu training 
was very tough.  Wai Jai said, "The hardest was persisting.  Because I had 
to fight everyday, of course I thought about quitting.  This was normal."  
Wai Jai revealed that when he took his mark he fought very well because 
he had a knack for it.  However he humbly said, "Actually I have learned 
to get lazy and adjust with positioning, but I practiced too.  If I didn't 
it didn't work."  Chang Chen said, "From the beginning I kept practicing, 
the process was very dull.  I couldn't find any joy, by the third year I 
finally had some feeling and started feeling it was not tough.  Finally

	At the box office, Wong Jing's YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO 
WAT JAI GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) two days ago opened against THE 
GRANDMASTERS.  THE GRANDMASTERS made 1.32 million, RELOADED made 420,000.  
Although Wong Jing lost to Wong Kar Wai, he was quite gracious.  Early 
yesterday he praised THE GRANDMASTERS online.  He wrote, "I used to like

Entertainment News program and talked about her male co-stars.  She said

co-star Tony Leung Ka Fai left a very deep impression with Sun Kai Kwan.

* (2013/01/11) The Jackie Chan starred Emperor Motion Picture CZ12 (SUP 
YI SUN CHIU) as of two days ago made 755 million yuan RMB in the 
Mainland, surpassed LET THE BULLETS FLY and PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION 
(WAT PEI II) and second only to LOST IN THAILAND to become the second 
highest grossing Chinese film in Mainland history.
	The international Superstar Jackie Chan starred Emperor Motion 
Picture CZ12 earlier accumulated S$2.4 million after seven weeks in 
release and broke the Chinese film opening week record there.
	The film as of two days ago already reached 755 million yuan RMB 
in the Mainland to become the second highest grossing Chinese film in 
Mainland history.  In first place was the Mainland comedy LOST IN 
THAILAND, which accumulated 1.178 billion yuan RMB as of two days ago.
	When he received the Southeast Asia box office news earlier, 
Jackie Chan already joked whether he had to take back the idea that CZ12 
was his final large scale action film.  Now with the Mainland box office 
success, Jackie Chan of course was happy.  His wife Joan Lin (Lam Fung 
Giu)'s cameo was also rather valuable.  Reportedly the film company 
wanted to make a new film with the original team.
	Last year Hong Kong film companies supported pure Hong Kong 
film productions, obviously admission has increased.  Mainland viewer 
tastes have become more and more distant from Hong Kong's.  Last year 
the Mainland top ten highest grossing films only had three Chinese films, 
the rest were all Hollywood films.  Luckily the box office champion was

ago held a press conference to announce last year the national total film 
box office was 17 billion RMB, Chinese film box office was 8.2 billion yuan

VENGEANCE (HONG MOON YIN), Andrew Lau Wai Keung's THE GUILLOTINES (HUET 
DIK JI) and Wong Jing's THE LAST TYCOON (DAI SEUNG HOI) did not break 
into the Mainland top ten.
	Film critic Sima Ping Bang said that last year Chinese film had 
too many rotten films, most had Hong Kong teams like Cecilia Cheung Pak 
Chi's LEGENDARY AMAZONS (YEUNG MOON NUI JUENG ji GWUN LING YU SAN) and 
ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING BO HEI), that making money was easy 
for them as they specialized in swindling Mainland investors' moeny.  In 
addition, the film bureau this year will set new measures to fight poor 
quality fake 3D films.

* (2013/01/11) The YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) film series was 
popular in Hong Kong.  This year Wong Jing as the producer returned to 
make the new film YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: GONG WU SUN 
DIT JUI).  Philip Ng Won Lung in the film not only played Big Head but was 
also the action director.
	Wong Jing said that the remake idea came from SPIDER-MAN.  "Remake 
in such a short period of time, with a group of new comer, and the 
audience accepts it.  In addition in 2012 Hong Kong film was very 
successful, to me it was an encouragement!"  Both an actor and an action 
director, Philip was asked whether he was very busy.  Philip said, 
"Actually it's an advantage, because I have chemistry with the cast I 
understand what everyone is thinking!"
	In addition, when asked about the Hong Kong actor generation 
gap phenomenon in recent years, Wong Jing felt that the pseudo model wave

	Full of "bed scene" experience Winnie said that the most important 
was to have a good partner.  "Sammy is very professional, he is the hard 
working type so I am completely relaxed.  Even though I had many sexy 
performance before, every time I had a psychological barrier.  This time 
is different from before, we have to express our crazy personalities so 
visually it is very shocking.  It is the most extreme time conceptually 
in my film career.  Before I took the role I knew I had this scene.  I

	Speaking of YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED "Ugly Kwan's" 
outstanding acting, Sammy said that he did not like to watch mob films.  
"Although I don't like them, as an actor I have to know everything.  I 
try to come in contact with a lot.  Ugly Kwan is not the typical mob 
boss, but a petty person, a street rat, so I put myself my entire self.  
In coordination the bad guys now would take drugs, so he is always out 
of it, crazy all the time.  When I was studying overseas I saw what 
taking drugs looked like.  I would ask my friends for advice."
	As for online negative reviews, Winnie said, "Many people feel it 
is quite a contrast from the first film, but I feel that's good.  At least 
they are paying attention, at any minute they are the first ones at the 
movies to see how different it is from the first film.  The trailer hit 
rate rose a lot, proving that many people are paying attention to the 
movie.  I am confident that the box office would be decent."  Sammy felt 
that it was the housewife mentality, "The more it is criticized the more 
they want to watch it".

* (2013/01/11) Just changing his English name to Jeremy, Mainland hunk 
Tsui Ching Hei explained the reason.  "My previous name Izz came from the 
company, I changed it to Jeremy because in my movie MY SASSY HUBBY (NGOR 
LO POR NG GAU CHING II NGOR LO GUNG NG SUN SING) I played a character 
named Lam Shu Ho.  Coincidentally my idol is Lin Shu-How (Jeremy Lin).  
Because my childhood dream is to be a basketball player, I worship Asians 
who can have their own place in the NBA."
	Jeremy said that when working with Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin 5 
years later again, "she completely didn't recognize me because back then 
I wore a long hair wig in the movie.  However seeing Ah Sa again she 
really has matured a lot."
	Breaking up with his outsider girlfriend for half a year he would

* (2013/01/11) "Double Wong" Wong Kar Wai and Wong Jing's films THE 
GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) and YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT 
JAI: GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) yesterday opened on the same day in Hong Kong 
for a direct confrontation; Wong Kar Wai overwhelmingly defeated Wong Jing 
at the box office.  THE GRANDMASTERS' advanced sales have been ideal, the 
predicted opening day box office was 2 million; the TVB new stars Law 
Chung Him and Oscar Leung Lit Wai starred YOUNG AND DANGEROUS was 
predicted to make 410,000.  THE GRANDMASTERS has already opened in the 
Mainland nationwide on January 8, after 3 days it accumulated 100 million 
RMB; Wong Kar Wai took 3 years and left the cast exhausted and horrified, 
such a performance was quite the answer.
	Wong Kar Wai, Wai Jai and Chang Chen recently promoted THE 
GRANDMASTERS nonstop.  After completing the Mainland and Hong Kong 
promotions, yesterday they attended a Taiwan press conference.  Wai Jai 
recalled breaking his arm twice during the shoot and was still shaken.  
"The first the fracture was only a hairline, the second time it was 
already cracked like shark teeth!"  Because he did not want to hinder the 
progress, Wai Jai originally wanted surgery but the doctor did not 
suggest it.  He could only tell Wong Kar Wai to wait 4 months for him; 
thus Wong Kar Wai could only head to the Northeast and shot the Zhang 
Ziyi train station duel first, but he ran into the coldest winter in 
history.  Zhang Ziyi had to shoot in 30 degrees below zero.
	Wong Kar Wai revealed that Wai Jai was reluctant.  After 
recovering for about 3 week he headed to the Northeast to look for him 
and said that he could work on dramatic scenes.  In the film Ip Man said 
that if life had four seasons, his before age 40 was all spring.  Turning 
50 this year Wai Jai said, "Now is still spring for me.  Because I have 
been very lucky to run into very excellent film people to work with.  
Making this film has changed my view on life.  In the future I will choose 
to be optimistic because the character of Ip Man is different from my 
characters in recent years.  My recent characters are all depressed, but 
this time he is very positive and optimistic.  Now I like to happy and 
joyous, I feel the world has hope.  Thus after THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG 
JEH) I wanted to make some happy and warm movies."
	Wai Jai revealed the Grandmaster of THE GRANDMASTERS was 
recreated from the purification of Ip Man and Bruce Lee.  Wai Jai said 
that Bruce Lee was his childhood idol.  When he was 7 or 8 he was already 
a kung fu fan.  Because his family was poor and felt that he would get 
into fights after learning kung fu, he was not permitted to learn.  As 
for a lot of his scenes and dialogues being cut, Wai Jai did not mind 
because THE GRANDMASTERS was Wong Kar Wai's film. The director shot so 
much that cutting was necessary.  Chang Chen agreed with Wai Jai and said 
that he did not mind.
	Wai Jai in one scene washed his wife Song Hye-Kyo's feet.  Wai 
Jai said, "I was forced to, Wong Kar Wai asked him to choose between 
bathing my wife or washing her feet.  I could only choose washing her 
feet."  Although the film received good response, Wai Jai never thought 
about winning Best Actor with this film again because that was not his 
goal for making the film.
	Wong Kar Wai said that the film originally was 4 hours long, 
because the film companies asked he had to cut it down to 130 minutes.  
Wai Jai and Chang Chen's exciting duel in the wrap scene did not appear 
at all.

* (2013/01/11) Carina Lau Ka Ling yesterday attended a French jewelry 
Chaumet specialty shop opening.  She stated that she already was the most 
valuable to her husband Tony Leung, but he would choose a watch or 
cuff links for his Valentine's Day gift.  THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG 
SI) received great reviews and became the Berlin Film Festival opening 
film.  Ka Ling praised Wai Jai's performance as a great breakthrough.  "As 
a viewer, I saw a different Leung Chiu Wai.  He is even more solid, even 
without much body movement he still has a force.  With him in it the 
screen is very pretty!  Maybe I am biased!"  Some said that THE 
GRANDMASTERS focus fell on Zhang Ziyi.  Ka Ling did not feel that Wai 
Jai's role was too little.  She believed that perhaps his performance was 
too exciting, viewers misunderstood because they did not get enough.  She 
complimented, "The biggest pleasant surprise is (Max) Zhang Jun, I never 
imagine that he would act so well.  Under Wong Kar Wai's camera he is 
very charming!  Zhang Ziyi is great, she achieves Master Gong Er's 
pursuit of her dream without any consideration for the consequence.  I 
too hope to play a role but I didn't get one!"
	Reportedly Song Hye-Kyo's role was drastically cut.  Ka Ling 
felt that the most important was to bring everyone visual effects and 
give viewers a peek into Wong Kar Wai's martial art world.  She stressed, 
"Wong Kar Wai loves every one of his actors and makes them very pretty.  
He loves Chang Chen too.  Although Chang Chen only has two scenes he 
stood out."  Was she confident that Wai Jai will win Best Actor again 
with THE GRANDMASTERS?  Ka Ling felt that it was not important, the most 
important was Wai Jai enjoyed the production process.  Everyone would see 
the result.  She pointed out that Wai Jai over 4 years in order to make 
THE GRANDMASTERS was in a tense condition.  After completing the 
promotion he would take some time to relax.  "He may not go on a 
vacation, at home he can be very relaxed.  I would create a comfortable 
environment for him.  Whatever he wants to do he can do."
	Wai Jai in Taiwan said that he had not parenthood plan.  Ka Ling 
admitted that they had a detailed discussion and felt with today's 
advanced technology if they wanted a child they definitely could.  They 
just did not want to deliberately have one.  She said, "We are very 
comfortable and carefree, if we have an accident we would keep it.  This 
would be destiny, but we won't be deliberate."

DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI) as YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: 
GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) with Law Chung Him, Oscar Leung Lit Wai, Jacqueline 
Chong Si Man as Chan Ho Nam, Chicken and Preacher's daughter Suk Fun.  
With Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Jordan Chan Siu Chun and Karen Mok Man Wai before 
them, they could only do their best to play the characters anew.  Him 
Jai said, "Ekin's Brother Ho Nam belonged to the 90s,  I am the 2013 Chan 
Ho Nam!"
	Perhaps few remembers Him Jai and Wai Wai came from the film 
industry, they only knew that last year they performed outstandingly on 
television.  Even Wong Jing brought them back to the film industry.  Him 
Jai and Wai Wai were both YOUNG AND DANGEROUS comic book and film fans.  
They were crazy happy when they were fortunate enough to be in the new 
version, but Him Jai had to withstand the pressure from being compared to 
Ekin.  He said, "I grew up watching Ekin's Chan Ho Nam.  The heavy 
heroism is too memorable, I hope viewers can accept new actors.  This time 
Wong Jing wants to be closer to the comic book and more human.  I not 
only suggested adding in comic books and play the parking valet Chan Ho 
Nam who was cowardly and stammered but looked very cool.  When he 
gathered his gang he would even use What's App."  Him Jai could not wait 
for the second film.  "This time I ran into Smartie Tong Fei, in the next 
film Chan Ho Nam could run to Taiwan."
	Wai Wai studied the Chan Siu Chun played Chicken as more lovable,

	YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED has violence, sex and foul language.  
Released with both category IIB and category III rated versions, all 
viewers are taken care of.  Him Jai said that the smoking, fighting and 
foul language scenes were very challenging.  "I was very nice at school, 
this time I practiced smoking until I puked, and was afraid that the 
fights would look like a costume film's."  Wai Wai and Chong Si Man was 
more than able to handle the fight scenes because they were used to 
fighting when they were little.  Chong Si Man was a "highly at risk 
student", Wai Wai was sentenced to 3 year probation.  However they needed 
time to create chemistry.

* (2013/01/11) Shu Qi yesterday attended a Kenzo fragrance commercial 
press conference.  Tin Kai Man complained about how cheap Stephen Chow 
Sing Chi was.  His JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) star Shu Qi 
said, "I don't think Sing Yeh is cheap.  Did Sing Yeh buy a round?  The 
team did, I did too.  I never counted whether I did more than he did, 
but when the team did it used Sing Yeh's money."
	Reportedly Sing Yeh and Stephen Fung Tak Lun were at odds so he 
was deliberately pursuing her.  Shu Qi said, "I didn't sense that, I 
didn't catch any scent of him pursuing me.  If Sing Yeh did?  The world 
has no if."  Did she like men like Sing Yeh?  Shu Qi said that all 
talented men were attractive, then she changed the subject.

* (2013/01/11) Wong Jing recently has been busy with the YOUNG AND 
DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) promotion but 
still remembered to express his personal opinion online.  Yesterday he 
wrote, "I have always thought this way (only good movies are able to make 
money), but if I use my significant other's interpersonal relationship to 
make a lot of money then treat her like a stranger; after using all my 
business partner's resource hog the benefits and awards; after squeezing 
creative team's creativity dry claim to be my own ideas, kick people 
out and take all the credit, would I be able to make much much more 
money?  Sigh!  This may just be one of my dream, I can't do it I 
can't....."
	As everyone was guessing who Wong Jing was referring to, he 
already removed the post and blocked everyone from leaving messages and 
keeping on guessing.  Perhaps Wong Jing wanted to reorganize the 
microblog new order as well?

* (2013/01/10) Chapman To Man Jat has been busy with the film BLACK 
COMEDY (HAK SIK HEI KET), in which he played the hell boss with girls 
galore.  In the story he loves the night life and pole dancing.  In an 
earlier scene a sexy woman was upside down on the pole and Ah Jat could 
not stop staring.  Also present was former Miss Asia and Miss Hong Kong 
candidate "foul mouth Barbie" Barbie Liu as an extra.

* (2013/01/10) The Xu Jinglei and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing starred film BETTER 
AND BETTER earlier held a press conference in Beijing.  When asked about 
a direct confrontation with Stephen Chow Sing Chi's new film JOURNEY TO 
THE WEST (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN), director Zhang Yibai said that he saw 
Sing Yeh as his teacher.  "Chow Sing Chi founded this slot, I am just 
following him and plugging the leaks."  Xu Jinglei and Kwok Fu Sing had 
many scenes together.  She pointed out that Sing Sing's comedy gene was 
shocking.  She said, "I don't feel I am playing a comedy, actually Kwok 
Fu Sing is the one who is playing a comedy.  I am just laughing along 
side him.  For one scene I laughed and ruined 17 takes already.  The 
director and I were laughing so hard that we were crying."

* (2013/01/10) The Andy Lau Tak Wa, Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Michael Tong Man 
Lung and others starred film FUNG BO earlier at a gun fight scene at 
Central.  Since it was Sunday morning, the working class was off.  
Heavenly King Lau Wa's charm still attracted over 100 onlookers.  The gun 
fight and car crash scenes were very realistic, gun fire sounds endlessly 
rang.  Each actor performed convincingly, making the production process 
both intense and exciting.
	When the press arrived, a car was already upside down on the side 
of the street.  A stunt double who resembled Lau Tak Wa studied the 
production detail with action director Chin Kar Lok.  Chin Kar Lok looked 
seriously and in command.
	After an exciting car crash scene, the flipped car was placed on 
the side of the road.  Luckily it was Sunday, vehicles were few and one 
lane could be blocked off.  The crew helped with directing the traffic, 
both the traffic flow and the production went smoothly.
	After a break, Lau Tak Wa appeared with a rifle and "fresh blood" 
on his face.  He looked very cool as he officially began a police chase 
and gun fight.  Wa Jai kept firing the rifle in front of the camera at 
three robbers, Lam Ka Tung, Tong Man Lung and Terence Yin (Wan Chi Wai) 
exchanged fire.  Central was "raining bullets" as gun fire rang throughout 
Central deafeningly.
	In one of the scenes a bullet brushed by Wa Jai, the fake bullets 
were very close to him and even set off sparks on the ground.  The 
location was filled with more bullet ammunition smell.  Although 
pedestrians knew it was a movie shoot, they still covered their ears and 
ran for cover.  The atmosphere was both intense and exciting.  Such a gun 
fight scene was indeed rare for people, onlookers felt like they were 
right in the thick of it and were able to catch a glimpse of Lau Tak Wa 
and the cast.  Now wonder the crowd did not subside despite hours of 
productions.
	Known to be serious, Wa Jai had every expression on his face.  
After the shot he kept studying the script with the production team.  
Every scene was shot twice or more.  The shoot ran over 4 hours at 
Central and began in the early morning, but each actor looked energized.  
When they took the marks they had no smile at all as they all 
concentrated on the shoot.

* (2013/01/10) Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) two days 
ago was released in the Mainland and made 30 million yuan RMB, the best 
Mainland box office for a Wong Kar Wai film.  Back then 2046's total box 
office was only 30 million yuan.
	THE GRANDMASTERS two days ago officially opened in the Mainland, 
the first day box office was 30 million yuan RMB.  It was the best 
Mainland box office performance for a Wong Kar Wai film.  In 2004 2046's 
Mainland cumulative box office was only 30 million.  In 2007 MY 
BLUEBERRY NIGHTS after a week only made 10 million yuan.
	THE GRANDMASTERS had completion from LOST IN THAILAND, CZ12 (SUP 
YI SUN CHIU) and other hit films, but because they have been in release 
for some time THE GRANDMASTERS has an advantage.  On its opening day it 
occupied 38% of the national showings and opened with 30 million yuan; 
however, its competition will only grow stronger with SKYFALL on the way.

* (2013/01/10) Wong Jing's YOUNG AND DANGEROUS RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: 
GONG WU SUN DIT JUI) competed with THE GRANDMASTERS.  He earlier online 
congratulated THE GRANDMASTERS for wrapping up but actually took a hidden 
jab at wong Kar Wai.  He with a new director and a several million dollar 
production YOUNG AND DANGEROUS to battle the 30 million dollar production 
THE GRANDMASTERS.  Wong Jing issued the challenge, "Nothing is guaranteed 
at the box office, wait and see!"  THE GRANDMASTERS' Mainland box office 
of 30 million yuan was Wong Kar Wai's show of force against Wong Jing.
	YOUNG AND DANGEROUS two nights ago held its premiere.  Wong Jing 
was not worried about the confrontation with THE GRANDMASTERS.  He felt 
that the films had different styles.  "I never target any one colleague, 
I wish great box office for everyone.  Wong Kar Wai and I have competed 
for years, People who like his work will continue to like it.  People who 
dislike it won't easily change, like the YOUNG AND DANGEROUS audience.  
They won't steal each other's viewers."  Wong Jing led the cast to three 
shows to promote.  Jacqueline Chong Si Man's see through look successfully 
stole the spotlight from Winnie Leung Man Yi who had a topless 
performance in the film.  
	Stephen Chow Sing Chi in an interview responded to Wong Jing's 
accusation that he "preferred money", Sing yeh felt that good movies could 
make money and even said that he and Wong Jing were not too close.  Wong 
Jing said, "That's right!  We are very unfamiliar.  We haven't seen each 
other for over 10 years.  He is so rich, he has to like money very much 
to have money.  As far as I know, very little of money came from movies.  
Most of it came from property speculation.  I of course agree that only 
good movies can make money, but while making movies he can also speculate 
properties.  Perhaps they share the same concept?  The thinking of the 
wise won't be too far apart.  I would watch both JOURNEY TO THE WEST (SAI 
YAU GONG MOR PIN) and THE GRANDMASTERS, but I won't invite people to watch 
my YOUNG AND DANGEROUS.  Because inviting other people means I don't have 
confidence in my own movie."
	Wong Jing admitted that Oscar Leung Lit Wai recently has more 
negative news and changed his mind about signing him to a 10 movie deal.  
He said, "Indeed I wanted to sign him to 10 movies, but recently he has 
too many troubles.  He is better off signed on a per movie basis, he will 
be signed with the time is right.  If he signs a contract, he will 
receive over 1 million as down payment.  Would he have a chance for a 
raise on a per film basis?  I feel that he is improving, as long as he is 
worth his value I am not worried.  He was just as clueless as Chow Sing 
Chi back then, later he charged more and more."
	Leung Lit Wai earlier filed a lawsuit against Kenny Wee (Wong Ho) 
but because it has already entered the legal process he was not at 
liberty to reveal more.  "Thank you to many friends who say they are 
willing to lend me money for the lawsuit.  I also received support from 
neighbors.  Currently I can't predict how much the lawsuit will cost, I 
believe it will definitely be in the six figures.  However for now I don't 
need to borrow money from anyone."  Speaking of Wong Jing giving up the 
plan to sign him to a 10 film deal over the matter, Leung Lit Wai hoped 
that he would change his mind.  However negotiations on a per film basis 
was better than a complete cancellation.
	Law Chung Him did not know about Leung Lit Wai's contract 
cancellation.  Would he ask Wong Jing to invest the 10 million on him?  
Law Chung Him said, "We are actors of different types, our developments 
are different.  As partners we would be even better."  Law Chung Him said 
that his rumored girlfriend Tavia Yeung Yi probably would support his 
film, but they have not decided whether to go together.  Law Chung Him was 
very nervous about everyone's acceptance level for the "Brother Ho Nam" 
character, but he would not ask Yeung Yi's opinion for a masculine movie.
	YOUNG AND DANGEROUS RELOADED has a category III and IIB versions.  
Two nights ago the premiere was for the category III version.  Aside from 
foul language galore, Leung Man Yi even had a topless love scene.  Paul 
Wong Koon Chung spilled his guts all over the floor as well.
	Leung Man Yi said that watching her own bed scene for the first 
time, she felt embarrassed at the cinema.  She said, "Luckily the result 
was decent, I breathed a sigh of relief.  After the show (Jazz) Lam Chi 
Sin gave me a thumbs up.  I felt very touched, this was encouraging."  
Was the chest close up too much?  Leung Man Yi said, "Too much?  Actually 
the love scene is just one of the selling points.  As long as the visual 
looks good it's fine.  Maybe the director saw how great my figure was and 
shot more!"  He said that the set was cleared during the shoot.  Before 
hand he and co-star Sammy Sum Chun Hin were very nervous and had to drink 
champagne to reduce stress.
	Action director Philip Ng Won Lung was pleased with the result and 
hoped that friend Race Wong Yuen Ling and rumored girlfriend Linda Chung 
Ka Yun will show their support.  Speaking of him comforting the heart 
broken Race, making Chung Ka Yun jealous and break up with him, Ng Won 
Lung clarified that his relationship with Chung Ka Yun remained the same.

Jat, and Teresa Mo Shun Kwan in the Lunar New Year film HOTEL DELUXE (BAK 
SING JAU DIM) played hotel employees who ran into strange and weird 
clients.  Kwan Yu played the housekeeping manager Sister To and had to 
keep everything in its place.  Even when folding sheets she had to measure 
the angle with a protractor.  "In real life, I have a maid for chores at 
home, if I have to use the high tech home appliance I definitely would be 
very clumsy."
	To be convincing with her bathroom scrubbing scene, Kwan Yu asked 
her maid for advice.  "Although I have a maid for household chores, I 
wouldn't spoil my daughter to become a Hong Kong child.  I want her to 
keep her room clean and pick up her toys."

* (2013/01/10) Joyce Cheng Yun Yi who recently has been busy with music 
award shows and the Lunar New Year film I LOVE HONG KONG 2013 (2013 NGOR 
OI HK GUNG HEI FAT CHOI) obviously regained her weight perhaps to 
impersonate her mother Lydia Shum Din Ha in the Lunar New Year film.  
Yesterday a magazine claimed that Yun Yi reportedly had two lunch boxes 
on the set and gained 40 pounds.  When her record company asked her to 
lose weight she would cry; because of her out of control weight, her 
contract with Shirley Cheung Yuk San's slimming company was left 
unfinished.
	After 9 years of weight loss, did Yun Yi give up?  Two nights ago 
Yun Yi along with the TVB artist team under the leadership of Elaine Lok 
Yi Ling attended a film premiere.  Yun Yi said that the 40 pounds rumor 
was too exaggerated.  She is working hard on losing weight.  She 
clarified that she did not have two lunch boxes.  She and her assistant 
each had one and they shared them, leading to the misunderstanding.

Keeping his girlfriend company throughout the entire funeral, Aaron Kwok

Kong Coliseum concert, Sing Sing said that the content, arrangement and

WONG KAR WAI GRANDMASTERS OFFICIAL BIOGRAPHY

	If the earlier IP MAN movie that clearly differentiate good and 
evil only had black and white, Wong Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI 
JUNG SI) probably is a color production, the drama that plays out with 
martial art makes fun of itself through Tony Leung Chiu Wai's mouth in 
the end.  Director Wong Kar Wai pleads with viewers to keep an open mind 
and discard any preconceived notion.  The film does not carry any 
patriotism, only talks about the life of the Grand Master and implies 
martial art heritage.  The motivation is simple but requires a grand 
boldness and breadth of mind.  With the arrival of THE GRANDMASTERS, "one 
horizontal one vertical" may not just be the simple box office numbers.  
Kung fu is about heritage, film is as well. - HO WING NING
	Going off topic first, even if you are no a Zhang Ziyi fan, after 
watching THE GRANDMASTERS you definitely would like her Gong Er 
character from the bottom of your heart.  With all the twists and turns 
her love is implicit but not shy because liking someone is not wrong.  
Director Wong Kar three days ago spoke to Apple Daily in Taipei and the 
topic was none other than the recently released film after years of 
brewing THE GRANDMASTERS.  Without determining a box office winner, 
based on Donnie Yen Chi Tan seemingly has become the Grand Master Ip 
Man's film spokesperson in recent years and the Grand Master's older son 
Ip Chun's question of "After watching Yen Chi Tan I don't know how Wong 
Kar Wai can make the movie", Wong Kar Wai asks viewers to watch with 
their hearts.  He says, "I know many viewers watch IP MAN with the 
emotions of watching a martial art hero film, but I want to talk about 
the martial art world through the life of the Grand Master.  Before going 
leave all the preconceptions.  You should keep an open mind and watch, 
from the Grand Master's experience sense the Republic spirit and learn 
how Chinese people faced difficulties at a great age, lighting one 
lantern with each step."

Experience Martial Artists' Unique Dominance
	The life of Ip Man crossed the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic, 
after the War Against Japanese Aggression he came to Hong Kong.  Wong Kar 
Wai says, "The first half of his life was early Republic history, very 
little has been written about Ip man.  Before age 40, a lot were folk 
stories.  The most familiar of course was Ip Man being Bruce Lee's master.  
Actually Bruce Lee admitted that his master influenced a lot of his 
personality.  Thus when you watch THE GRANDMASTERS you would feel Ip Man 
had a shade of Bruce Lee.  Actually the disciple was imitating him."
	When Wong Kar Wai visited a group of aging masters he witnessed 
martial artists' unique dominance.  He says, "A gentle senior, when 
practicing on the stage, becomes another person.  It is the posture of a 
martial artist.  Thus I insist on the actors to train for real, because 
a martial artist's self confidence, gesture, language and animalistic 
nature is not convincing without training."  The film even has martial 
art actors like Lau Ka Yung and Lo Mang (Law Mong).  Wong Kar Wai says, 
"When I was little I grew up on Shaw's martial art films.  Before making 
this film I asked Master Lau Ka Leung for advice.  He said, 'Kid you are 
great, you got the guts to make this film'.  He said that the Eight 
Diagram Palm that Zhang Ziyi learned looked very pretty.  Master Lau is 
a Heaven and Earth Society grand master, so I asked Brother Ka Yung for 
help along the vein."
	To be called a grand master, Wong Kar Wai feels that it is an 
achievement of moral, speech and behavior.  He said, "A martial art grand 
master not only has to fight well but also has to have virtues and 
heritage.  No matter how well you fight he can only be called a master."  
Because THE GRANDMASTERS led to the early Republic history from the life 
of a Grand Master, the center idea of the film in the end reaches the 
heritage of martial art.  The reason is that during his research the old 
masters inspired him, Wong Kar Wai adds, "During the first three years of 
research, I met old descendants of many styles like masters of Xingyi 
palm and Eight Diagram palm.  They without any reservation told the 
stories of their style to me and I was very touched."  Even more lamenting 
is perhaps in a few years, authentic Chinese martial arts will only be 
able to be learned overseas.  Wong Kar Wai said, "A female Eight Diagram 
Palm descendant told me, a young man from Japan deliberately came to 
China and spent three years to learn.  He already became authentic, which 
made me want to talk about the martial art heritage issue even more."

Wai Jai Shakes Off The Chow Mo Wan Shadow
	When Leung Chiu Wai at the end of the film wore a suit for his 
identification card photo and lit a cigarette, people are reminded of 
the shadow of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (FA YEUNG NIN WA)'s Chow Mo Wan.  Wong 
Kar Wai admitted that it was the most difficult scene to shoot.  He says, 
"As soon as Wai Jai lights a cigarette people very naturally think of 
Chow Mo Wan, this scene is one of the hard ones to shoot.  I told Wai 
Jai, 'Don't make people think you are'.  When I saw Wai Jai sit I knew it 
was successful because Chow Mo Wan would not sit so straight."  Martial 
art has grand masters, film does too.  The late King Hu (Wu Kam Chuen) is 
more than deserving.  Wong Kar Wai says, "A grand master has to have 
seen himself, seen Heaven and Earth, seen life, in other words to have 
something to pass on and inspire the young generations.  Director Hu 
undoubtedly has done that."

Yi Xiantian's Till Death Do Us Part
	Flowers hide under leaves, behind THE GRANDMASTERS are hidden 
scenes.  In the film Chang Chen played Yi Xiantian, who Zhang Ziyi saved  
at the train station, and Zhao Benshan who appeared twice, had a very 
intriguing story behind them.  Due to the length of the film, director 
Wong Kar Wai shrank the originally four hour film by half.  He says, "The 
full version would explain in much more details, for example it would 
explain why Chang Chen opens a barber shop in Hong Kong and the identity 
of Zhao Benshan was not only the Eight Diagram palm eldest disciple but 
also a killer of the Northern assassination squad."
	Viewers who have seen THE GRANDMASTERS would feel that scene 
between Chang Chen and Zhang Ziyi left too many blanks, they have to 
watch the full version to be able to see the entire picture.  Wong Kar 
Wai says, "Zhang Ziyi after saving Chang Chen at the train station met 
him again in Hong Kong.  Chang Chen sees Zhang Ziyi as someone who 
understood him and admired her.  Although he could not forget her, he 
did not enter her life at all.  He only waited by her side."  As for 
the reason that Chang Chen opened a barber shop, Wong Kar Wai says, 
"Because the barber shop was near Ziyi's hospital, he stood guard over 
Ziyi until her death."

The Full Version May Be Released Later
	Wong Kar Wai explained that Yi Xiantian's original form came 
from a barber shop near his childhood home.  He says, "At the time near my 
Tsim Sha Tsui home was a barber shop.  Hair cuts below and martial art 
instructions upstairs.  Back then many masters were hidden, they 
scattered to the lower class to hide from the world."  At the same time 
Yi Xiantain's other identity was uncovered.  He and Zhao Benshan both 
were killers from the Northern assassination squad that was to overthrow 
the Manchuarian government through assassination.  Wong Kar Wai says, 
"Zhao Benshan in the film mentioned 1905, the year when the Northern 
assassination squad assassinated five overseas chancellors of the Qing 
government.  Zhao Benshan participated in that and thus escaped to 
Foshan."  The director explained that martial artists of the great era 
all had the duty to the country and the people.  Thus as the Eight 
Diagram palm eldest disciple Zhao Benshan took the difficult task and gave 
the Chinese martial art association presidency to his junior colleague, 
Zhang Ziyi's father.  Zhao Benshan made him the face while he changed his 
name.  The four hour version will explain that, reportedly the full length 
version will havea chance for release later.

Art Film Fan: Wong Kar Wai A To Z
	Wong Kar Wai spent 17 years to make THE GRANDMASTERS.  No one 
can absorb his work thoroughly overnight.  Of course, if everyone first 
understands the various tidbits around the Big Director they would be 
halfway there.  Apple Daily now explains the Wong Kar Wai A to Z so 
everyone can be more involved when they go to the movies. - Chow Yuk Man

A: Advertisement
	When he made the Motorola mobile phone ad, female lead Faye Wong 
from the beginning kept on going "hey", "hello" as if she could not 
receive the call.  It was called an alternative advertisement.

B: Brigitte Lin
	Big Beauty Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) and Wong Kar Wai's "first 
encounter" was not ASHES OF TIME (DUNG CHE SAI DUK) in 1994, but THE 
OTHER SIDE OF GENTLEMAN (GWUN JI HO KAU).  Back then screen writer Wong 
Kar Wai even guest starred as a university student.

C: Chan, Frankie
	Frankie Chan Fun Kei singlehandedly brought Wong Kar Wai into the 
film industry, inviting him to be the screen writer of UNFORGETTABLE 
FANTASY (SIU WU SIN, 1985) and GOODBYE MY HERO (NGOK NAM, 1986).  Wong Kar 
Wai later asked him to work on the score for his film.  While planning THE 
GRANDMASTERS, they visited masters of various styles together.

D: DJ Shadow
	Wong Kar Wai worked on DJ Shadow's music video SIX DAYS and cast 
Chang Chen and Danielle as a couple, with fiery embrace and kiss scenes.

E: EXPRESS
	Wong Kar Wai loves to use Express as a metaphor for the changing 
of the times.  It has appeared in DAYS OF BEING WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN), 
2046, and THE GRANDMASTERS.  CHUNG KING EXPRESS (CHUNG HING SUM LUM) even 
used it in its English title, but EXPRESS was only the snack shop name in 
the film.

F: FINAL VICTORY
	He was a screen writer in the Patrick Tam Ka Ming directed FINAL 
VICTORY (JUI HAU SING LEI), later he invited Tam to edit ASHES OF TIME.  
After that he asked William Chang Suk Ping to "fix" it a little.  Since 
then Tam Ka Ming ever edited another Wong Kar Wai film again.

G: THE GRANDMASTERS
	THE GRANDMASTERS from conception to research, to production and 
post production took 17 years.  Wong Kar Wai used the film to express 
that the road to be a grand master was also taken one step at a time.

H: HAPPY TOGETHER
	In 1997 with HAPPY TOGETHER (CHUN GUONG JA SIT) he won the Cannes 
Film Festival Best Director and broke out internationally.  This was also 
his final collaboration with Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing.

I: IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE
	Using classic songs for film title was not only IN THE MOOD FOR 
LVOE, but also AS TEARS GO BY and HAPPY TOGETHER, but only HAPPY TOGETHER 
appeared in the film.

J: Jean-Luc Godard
	French New Wave master Jean-Lu Godard's narration method was 
deeply influential to Wong Kar Wai.  Of course they both also love to wear 
their trademark sunglasses.

K: Kam Kwok Leung
	Wong Kar Wai in 1981 joined the TVB screen writing training class 
and Kam Kwok Leung invited him to be an assistant director on FIVE EASY 
PIECES (LUEN LAU JUEN).  Thus Wong sees him as a benefactor.  Kam Kwok 
Leung once wrote a scene for Wong Kar Wai's ASHES OF TIME but it was not 
used.

L: Lau, Jeffrey
	Lau Chun Wai is Wong Kar Wai's buddy.  They worked together on 
THE HAUNTED COP SHOP (MANG GWAI CHAI GUOON) and THE HAUNTED COP SHOP II 
(MANG GWAI HOK TONG).  Back then ASHES OF TIME just kept on shooting, Lau 
Chun Wai with the original team worked on the Lunar New Year film EAGLE 
SHOOTING HEROES (DUNG SING SAI JAU) and successfully filled the slot.

M: MONOLOGUE
	Close up actor monologue is Wong Kar Wai's death blow.  The entire 
ASHES OF TIME was almost all character monologues, many of which became 
classic lines.  Other films had "birds without legs", "can expiration 
date", "one minute friend".

N: NUMBER
	Wong Kar Wai likes film secret code, aside from all the Chinese 
title being four words long his characters have names like "Yi Xiantian", 
"Gong Er", "Ma San", "Detective 223" and "Officer 663".

O: ONLY YOU
	The song that came on at the end of the film FALLEN ANGELS (DOR 
LOK TIN SI) when Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) picked up Michelle Reis 
(Lee Ka Yun), of course it was not Law Kar Ying's version from CHINESE 
ODYSSEY (SAI YAU GEI).  It was another song with the same title by the 
English group The Flying Pickets.

P: Polytechnic
	Wong Kar Wai in 1980 studied art design at the Polytechnic 
Institute and dropped out his second year.  At the time a project 
required him to design a set of sign system.  He went to the Miramar 
Hotel and took photos of every floor, then he took measurements for real.  
It ended up in smoke.

Q: QUEEN'S CAFE
	Queen's Cafe was DAYS OF BEING WILD's "landmark" as well as a 
collective memory.  That classic "six star poster" was shot at the 
location.  Queen's Cafe has already relocated to Hysan Avenue, and Cheung 
Kwok Wing has left us as well.

R: REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE
	The James Dean starred REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE.  Wong Kar Wai used 
his DAYS OF BEING WILD and HAPPY TOGETHER to salute James Dean and big 
time director Antonioni.  In 2004 Antonioni invited him and Steven 
Spielberg to work on EROS.

S: Shanghai
	Wong Kar Wai was born in Shanghai in 1958, at age 5 he immigrated 
to Hong Kong.  Actually his movies still keep many Shanghai specialties 
like barber shop and Chinese dress.  He also asked Shanghainese Rebecca 
Pan (Poon Dik Wa) to star in DAYS OF BEING WILD and IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE.

T: Tarantino, Quentin
	CHUNG KING EXPRESS was a treasure for Director Quentin Tarantino, 
who was moved to tears after watching.  Wong Kar Wai humbly said that the 
film was suitable for his taste and he was only one of Tarantino's toys.

U: Uncut version
	Wong Kar Wai never gets tired of editing.  THE GRANDMASTERS 
finally was edited to 130 minutes, but he warns that there will be a 
240 minute ultimate uncut version.

V: Vanish
	Many actors made the sacrifice in Wong Kar Wai films as their 
roles were completely removed.  They vanished without a trace.  The best 
known of course was HAPPY TOGETHER's Shirley Kwan Suk Yi and IN THE MOOD 
FOR LOVE's Roy Cheung Yiu Yeung and Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan.

W: William
	Official art director Chang Suk Ping's English name.  Chang Suk 
Ping guest starred in AS TEARS GO BY as Maggie Cheung Man Yuk's doctor 
boyfriend.  He recalled, "At the time I said I had to edit this scene 
myself, dialogue changes also had to go through me to the fewest."

X: Xaviar Cugat
	DAYS OF BEING WILD score used two CDs, including Spanish musician 
Xavier Cugat's JUNGLE DRUMS and PERFIDIA and South American brother group 
Los Indios Tabajaras' ALWAYS IN MY HEART.  JUNGLE DRUMS (cued up when Wai 
Jai combed his hair) was adapted into the theme song IT'S LIKE THIS, one 
of Anita Mui Yim Fong's classic songs.

Y: Yumeji's Theme
	IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE's score was the theme song that Japanese 
composer Shigeru Umebayashi created for Seijun Suzuki's film YUMEJI.  
Shigeru Umebayashi since then became Wong Kar Wai's official composer.  
2046 and THE GRANDMASTERS all had his work.  Shigeru Umebayashi back 
then composed the score for the Yoshimitsu Morita film AND THEN, no 
wonder THE GRANDMASTERS' score had the flavor of AND THEN.

Z: ZZZ
	Viewer reaction to Wong Kar Wai films are polarizing, the ones 
who like them will follow them to their death, the ones who do not may 
fall asleep.

2. MING PAO DAILY, JANUARY 13 2013, FILM WORDS
YOUNG AND DANGEROUS IS NO MATCH FOR PREVIOUS VERSION

	I have already written about my views on Wong Kar Wai's THE 
GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI SING SI) several days ago, feeling that although it 
is incomplete, it turns kung fu film into poetic artistry and is an 
entertaining film.  I would not repeat myself here, let's talk about 
other new films.
	As for Hong Kong Film YOUNG AND DANGEROUS: RELOADED (GOO WAT JAI: 
GONG WU SUN DIT JUI), it still is able to attract loyal or curious 
viewers.  Unfortunately with a new cast, in terms of star power or line 
up it is no match for the previous YOUNG AND DANGEROUS film series.  The 
film is made rough and vulgar, actually director Daniel Chan Yi-Heng's 
last film TRIAD (JAT JIK) was better. (Two out of five stars) - SHEK KEI

3. APPLE DAILY, JANUARY 10 2013, BIG PLAN
TONY LEUNG CHIU WAI PRAISES ZHANG ZIYI'S FIGHTS

	The Wong Kar Wai directed THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) two 
days ago was released in the Mainland, the opening day box office reached 
30 million RMB and exceeded 2046's Mainland total box office.  Zhang 
Ziyi's extreme performance and screen time were pleasant surprises.  With 
less dialogue and appearances in the second half of the film, Tony Leung 
Chiu Wai was overshadowed as Ziyi became the real lead.  Wai Jai's wife 
Carina Lau Ka Ling seemingly spoke up for her husband online as she 
retweeted what Wong Kar Wai said to explain why Wai Jai had his lines 
reduced.  She also referred to her husband as a "sound less, colorless 
drama ghost".  Even so, Wai Jai graciously admitted that he admired Ziyi 
very much and praised her toughness during her training!  - MAN KWOK CHUN
	The film from planning to production spent 17 years including post 
production.  With the title of "a Wong Kar Wai film", even if you are not 
waiting for it like Director Wong's fans you still would be curious about 
THE GRANDMASTERS.  Although THE GRANDMASTERS opens today in Hong Kong, 
two days ago its Mainland opening was strong as it reached 30 million RMB.  
It already surpassed Wong Kar Wai's 2046 total Mainland box office.

Ka Ling Defends Her Husband Online
	After the film was released, the most talked about was not the 
comparison between Leung Chiu Wai and the earlier Donnie Yen Chi Tan 
played Ip Man but Zhang Ziyi's surprising performance.  Some online even 
joked that the film should be titled THE BIOGRAPHY OF GONG ER.  Lau Ka 
Ling yesterday posted twice in support of her husband's new film.  First 
she quoted Wong Kar Wai, "You are forever Leung Chiu Wai.  Originally he 
had a lot of dialogues.  I later removed them because Ip Man did not speak 
much.  I wanted to give Leung Chiu Wai a challenge.  Other actors in his 
place would have gone mad, but he sat there and listened.  He was able to 
absorb all of his co-stars' set presence.  At this tage, he has already 
reached a performance peak.  It's very hard to surpass."  Later she also 
posted Wai Jai's still from the film and joked that her husband was a 
"sound less, colorless drama ghost".
	Wai Jai two days ago promoted the film with Chang Chen and 
graciously praised Zhang Ziyi for the price she paid for THE 
GRANDMASTERS.  He said, "Actually I have always admired Zhang Ziyi.  I 
don't have to say any more about acting, this film requires a lot of 
action.  As an actor even I feel it is very tough, more so for her as a 
girl."  Wai Jai said that in the film he and Ziyi had rather lengthy 
fight scene and even admitted that he accidentally hit her.  Wai Jai 
said, "During the shoot I can't go soft, I definitely would have 
accidents.  I know sometimes she was in a lot of pain and she had old 
wounds.  I really admire her, she is very rare."
	As for another lead actress Song Hye-Kyo, Wai Jai said that he 
understood Song Hye-Kyo had to overcome the language barrier.  It was very 
tough.  She also praised she was able to play the flavor of a Chinese 
lady."

Chang Chen Is Used To Losing Screen Time
	Wong Kar Wai once said that if he did not drastically cut the 
film, it would reach 4 hours.  Now after editing Chang Chen was the 
greatest sacrifice.  One of his fight scenes with Wai Jai was removed.  
Actually Chang Chen's performance was not disappointing at all.  After 
training in Eight Diagram Fist for three years he only had a few fight 
scenes, but he displayed his real kung fu and had quite a presence.  Did 
Chang Chen feel any regret from many scenes being cut?  He said in less 
than fluent Cantonese, "No, I know I would be like this.  It's not like 
it's the first time I am working on his (Wong Kar Wai) movie.  However 
over those three years I gained a lot, now I can continue to train.  It 
is very connected to my life!"

Honor First For Wong Kar Wai
	Wong Kar Wai earlier promoted THE GRANDMASTERS with a Mainland 
interview in Beijing.  He said that due to distribution demands, the film 
went from the 4 hour complete version to 2 hours.  With the word "honor" 
he had his own persistence.

W: Wong Kar Wai, R: Reporter
R: Originally this film is 4 hours long, did you have to make a lot of 
sacrifices?
W: Actually it's just a different point of view, like the film said "Only 
with flaws do you have improvement".  Nothing can be perfect.
R: Do you feel a sense of responsibility to spread martial art? 
W: Not in the beginning.  As the production went on I became good friends 
with those teachers.  By the end I felt that when I made this movie I not 
only faced viewers but also those martial artists.  They trusted me very 
much, they told me everything without holding back.  They felt that "If 
this film can expand our style, then we give our all".  Finally my 
responsibility became enormous, as I couldn't just entertain them.  The 
martial art world has "honor", relationships are very important.  Since 
they have contributed such tremendous relationships to me, I can't just 
take something and run; throwing away such great relationships just to 
make a movie.
R: How would you maintain the balance when a viewer and a professional 
martial artists watch the movie?
W: The hardest to balance is this point.  In this process many teachers 
wanted to make me their disciples and said, "Director Wong, you 
absolutely have the potential.  Our style definitely works for you!"  I 
said right now I could not because I had to turn myself into a viewer, 
know where the balance was.  This demanded for me to be absolutely 
neutral.  I had to be an outsider.
R: Since the pace before and after were different, how would a director 
arrange them?
W: Life is like this, time goes faster when you are young.  In the end 
it feels slower and slower.  When you tell someone's biography, you have 
to grasp the pace of life.
R: Some said that Leung Chiu Wai had little screen time?
W: Leung Chiu Wai had over 2,100 close ups.  He is the Grandmaster, so I 
removed all of his dialogue.  I wanted him to perform with acting and he 
was able to do it. - LEE SAM

Deconstruction: Work In The Same Vein
	Calling THE GRANDMASTERS the Wong Kar Wai collection cannot be 
more fitting.  The film is a cross over between classic DAYS OF BEING 
WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN), CHUNG KING EXPRESS (CHUNG HING SUM LUM), IN THE 
MOOD FOR LOVE (FA YEUNG NIN WA) and 2046, with Wong Kar Wai film style at 
every turn.

Foot Fetish
	Early in THE GRANDMASTERS Wong Kar Wai wonderfully arranges for 
Wai Jai to wash Song Hye-Kyo's feet to remind the audience of Wai Jai's 
character foot fetish in Wong Kar Wai films.  Wai Jai's foot scenes have 
appeared in CHUNG KING EXPRESS and 2046.  In CHUNG he rubs Faye Wong's 
injured leg, and in 2046 he removes a drunk Carina Lau Ka Ling's shoes.

Structure
	Chang Chen's story is completely independent of Wai Jai and Zhang 
Ziyi's main plot line.  The only connection is in one scene Zhang Ziyi 
protects an injured ChangChen.  Wong Kar wai movies loves to be 
independent, in CHUNG KING EXPRESS Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), 
Brigitte Lin (Lam Ching Ha) and wai Jai and Faye Wong are two stories, 
the only connection is when Gum Sing Mo runs into Faye Wong in front of 
a fast food shop.

Train
	In THE GRANDMASTERS, Chang Chen in order to avoid Japanese 
capture hides in a train; the battle between Max Zhang Jun and Zhang Ziyi 
also takes place near a train.  The most classic train scene of course was 
in DAYS OF BEING WILD.  Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's Yuk Jai delivers a 
classic monologue as he lies dying on the train; the 2046 science fiction 
scene also starts with a train that is heading toward 2046.

Lighting A Cigarette
	Ip man in THE GRANDMASTERS puts on a suit and lights a cigarette 
reminds viewers of IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE's Chow Mo Wan, unknowingly 
connected them.  Cigarette lighting is one of Wong Kar Wai film's 
bright spots, seemingly every film that he directs has a cigarette 
lighting scene as if it is the romance of men.

Hole
	Wong Kar Wai's characters are extremely depressed, love to find 
loves to release their inner secrets.  In the end of IN THE MOOD FOR 
LOVE, Wai Jai talks to a hole in Angkor Wat; in 2046 Takuya Kimura has 
a classic monologue; in THE GRANDMASTERS the format changes, Zhang Ziyi 
talks to the wall in hopes of guidance from her late father.

Rain
	When THE GRANDMASTERS opens, Ip Man fights against ten in the 
rain.  The scene is beautifully shot with extremely high artistic 
conception.  Whenever rain appears in Wong Kar Wai films they are classic 
scenes; in DAYS OF BEING WILD Andy Lau Tak Wa and Maggie Cheung Man Yuk's 
encounter, in CHUNG KING EXPRESS Takeshi Kaneshiro runs into the rain, in 
IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE So Lai Chun and Chow Mo Wan make their feelings known 
in the rain.

STREET WALK
	Before Zhang Ziyi passes she makes her feelings known to Ip Man.  
She deliberately changes into an elegant Chinese dress and they wander 
the streets, which reminds people of 2046 when Chow Mo Wan and Pak Ling 
were flirting on the streets.  Of course, IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE Chow Mo 
Wan and Cheung Man Yuk's So Lai Chun test each other at the end of the

Highlight: Photo Sharing
	In THE GRANDMASTERS photos have been taken five times, first with 
the Chin Woo Association, then the Japanese soldiers during Japanese 
rule, Ip Man's family, Chang Chen and Xiao Shenyang's barber shop opening 
and when the Wing Chun school is founded.   The film wants to bring out 
the center idea of martial art legacy, the photo record is the best proof 
of legacy.

Rarely Use Of Long Range Shot
	THE GRANDMASTERS shot in the Northeast and Foshan.  Wong Kar Wai 
rarely used the long range shot for scenery, unable to display the 
location environment and at the same time reflecting on how minute people 
are in great eras.  In addition, the lead's monologue are coordinated with 
their close up shots to display the powerlessness people feel during 
great eras.

Lo Mang Challenge
	Lo Mang (Law Mong) appears in both Yen Chi Tan's IP MAN 2 and Wong 
Kar Wai's THE GRANDMASTERS and both times as the challenge issuing 
master.  Even funnier he asks Leung Chiu Wai "how many he fought",  
obviously a poke at Yen Chi Tan's classic fight against ten.

THE GRANDMASTERS: POETRY ARTISTRY OF KUNG FU FILM

	One year after another, three years after another three years, 
THE GRANDMASTERS is finally released and it is long overdue.  Just like 
the famous verse form Bai Juyi's PIPA SONG, truly "We urged her over 
and again until she appeared"!  "Hundred Slow Big Director" Wong Kar Wai 
after this film production even became the "Slow King of Kings".  How does 
it turn out?  My opinion is that it is less than complete, but it would 
not disappoint.  Although others have already caught up from behind and 
made several Ip Man kung fu films, fortunately Wong Kar Wai maintains his 
unique style.  "Now playing softly, now playing swiftly", the film 
becomes an entertaining film in detail from a slow production.

Northern And Southern Masters With Southern And Northern Music
	This is Wong Kar Wai's first kung fu film.  Star power is strong 
with the cast.  The film has a series of martial art duels, twists and 
turns, parting and reunion during a tumultuous time.  With the Wong 
style intimate visuals and nostalgic score, the film has both elegant and 
common elements.  Despite the inevitably numerous music video style 
gimmicks, it is undoubtedly a kung fu film that is rich is a sense of 
film and literary tone.  Another specialty is the mix of North and South, 
from the Northern and Southern Chinese martial artist duels to the 
mysterious romance that is separated to the North and the South, with 
Northern and Southern music and the Japanese style Chinese song WHEN WILL 
YOU RETURN during the war as well as Wong Kar Wai's favorite Latin song 
and combination score, the film is full and colorful in sight and sound.

First Half Ingenious, Second Half Strong Dramatically
	In the story Foshan rich kid Ip Man is a Southern style Wing Chun 
martial art prodigy who has a 20 year long star crossed relationships with 
the Northeastern Eight Diagram Fist Gong clan father and daughter.  This 
film's martial art handling (Lau Ka Leung and Yuen Woo Ping both 
participating and directing) wonderfully is the kung fu version of PIPA 
SONG, the opening battle in the rain has the poetry artistry of "The bold 
swings rattled like splatters of sudden rain" "As pearls, large and small 
on a jade plate fall".  Other duels are "Like water splattering out of 
a fallen vase", and the Japanese invasion of China is "horsemen riding 
among a forest of spears".

Excing Duel Between Leung Chiu Wai And Zhang Ziyi 
	The most wonderful is Ip Man and the Gong clan leader elder (Wang 
Qingxiang)'s non action rivalry as they determine a winner from a cake 
in their hands.  The duel between masters indeed is extraordinary.  Later 
the Gong daughter (Zhang Ziyi)'s duel with Ip Man is authentic punch and 
kick excitement.  On the pavilion they fly and dance like phoenix, lead 
to love like "Her music flew out even before playing a note", "the fine 
strings hummed like flowers' whispers" and turn into an outstanding dance 
of love.  

More And More Subplots As Usual
	This time Wong Kar Wai achieves middle age maturity.  At least the 
first half is sophisticated and detailed, well versed in both culture and 
martial art.  After the middle when the War Against Japanese Aggression 
erupted, shattering family and ruining lives.  The drama gets even 
stronger.  Yet this film, unlike the Wilson Yip Wai Shun directed, Donnie 
Yen Chi Tan starred IP MAN, did not cook up a Chinese Japanese in ring 
blood bath.  The second half focuses on the Gong clan daughter avenging 
her father, as she begins a life and death duel with her elder (Max Zhang 
Jun) in the icy and snowy Northeast.  In 1950 Ip Man came to Hong Kong 
and made a living from teaching martial arts.  Years later he reunited 
with the Gong daughter, but the film does not recount how they immigrated 
to Hong Kong.  Actually Ip Man was served on the Kuomintang military 
police force.  After the Chinese Communists came to power he came to Hong 
Kong alone perhaps due to political factors.  Yet each Ip Man film that 
Hong Kong and China co-produced would certainly avoid this, this one is 
no exception.
	Thus THE GRANDMASTERS although has grudges between nations and 
families, its main plot actually is a martial art world romance.  The 
film takes far more liberty than being based on actual people and event.  
In addition Wong Kar Wai has more and more subplots as usual and gets out 
of control.  In the film the leads' history seems to be clear but it is 
not.  Chang Chen plays another martial art master who seems to have a 
connection with the female lead.  Later he also comes to Hong Kong and 
open a Shanghai barber shop, which is even more unclear.

Wong Kar Wai's PIPA SONG
	Overall the film does not have great structure but has plenty 
going for it.  Leung Chiu Wai is full of stage presence, Song Hye-Kyo as 
Foshan legal wife Cheung Wing Sing is innocent and cute.  Wang Qingxiang 
is mature and well honed.  The most attractive is Zhang Ziyi, as the 
martial art heroine she is cold and eye catching, later when she ends up 
in Hong Kong she is sorrowful and tragic with the sentiment of "Each plug 
on the string gave a note of melancholy, Pouring out the resentment of her 
life.  She knitted up her brows and carried on, Telling from her heart the 
life story long."  String music mixed with kung fu, this film is Wong Kar 
Wai's PIPA SONG. (Three and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI

  During the early years of the Republic era, in the North-East region of
  China, the people are suffering from the power struggle among the local
  Warlords, bandits, and Japanese invaders. Warlord Lam is not a leader of
  great vision, but having a patriotic heart, stands firm in his own
  beliefs, despite the several solicitations and temptations from Japan. 

  The only ‘paradise’ within the region is ‘Lucky Town’, the one place
  where no one dared to attack. Rumors abound that this place is cursed,
  for whenever anyone attempted to invade Lucky Town, they would disappear

  Lam’s daughter, Cheryl is very fond of culinary arts, and often does
  grocery shopping in Lucky Town. She is pretty and lovely and very much
  favoured by the Seven Masters, especially Horny Four who falls for her
  at first sight and regards her as his dream lover. 

  The Japanese secret agent, Kiyoko Kurosawa, allied with traitors from
  the Tiger’s Den: Tiger Hong, Jaguar Hong and Phoenix Hong, to set up a
  secret outpost to send secret-coded messages back to Japan. Young
  patriots, Yan Fang who disguised herself as a man, and Howard Luo,
  infiltrate Tiger’s Den at night, trying to steal the code book. They
  lose the fight to the Hongs, Howard sacrifices himself to save Yan who
  was wounded.

  On the run, Yan is rescued by Cheryl. Mistaking Yan as a man, Cheryl
  falls for Yan. She then brings Yan to Lucky Town and begs the Seven
  Masters to cure Yan. 

  On the other hand, Warlord Lam saves a pretty lady and grows fond of
  her. This lady is actually Kiyoko Kurosawa in disguise. Using Ninjutsu
  skills, Kiyoko seduces Lam and controls his will. She then organises a
  wedding for Lam and herself, in the hope of becoming the warlord’s wife
  so she can control Lam’s army. On the wedding day, Cheryl and the Seven
  Masters arrive in time to ruin her wedding plans. Lam regains his senses
  finally and unites together with the Seven Masters, to fight against
  Kiyoko and the Hongs...

  peaceful and happy married life. Thus, the letter comes as a surprise to
  Eiji who had thought the 15 years of living together had brought

  Ip Man is a young rich man extremely talented in martial arts, but he

  use every means in order to get out of there. The masters are amazed by
  his abilities. Master Kung and his daughter Kung Yi are amongst, and the

  and adds 3D special effects for viewers to experience the 3AM haunting.  
  Three stories take place in a wig shop, at a funeral and a company.  In 
  THE WIG two sisters May and Min buy real hair to make wigs from, late at 
  night the owner of the real hair appears; in CORPSE BRIDE male nurse Tos 
  stands guard over the coffins of the dead bride and groom.  Tos everyday  
  brings them meals and washes their corpse.  After awhile Tos falls for 
  the bride in the coffin; in O.T. Karan and Tee often scare company 
  employees as ghosts.  They again arrange for a series of scares but 
  even more mysterious events take time.  They cannot tell whether they 
  are real or not until 3AM.

Drawn Into Film: Korean Animation!

	It’s a brand new year, and The Korean Cultural Service is ready to 
draw you back into their Free Movie Nights by offering up four of the 
greatest animated films to ever come out Korea!
	While animation has flourished in America, Europe, and Japan for 
over a century, Korean artists have only recently stepped up and begun 
delivering product of their own - and the results have changed the 
industry worldwide. With top American television programs like The 
Simpsons and Futurama now being animated in Korea, it’s time to shine a 
spotlight on the talented Korean wiz kids who are drawing us all back 
into animation – and reminding us that this beautiful storytelling 
medium is anything but child’s play! With a whole new year of exciting 
films, unexpected guests, and a few surprises that you certainly won’t 
see coming – the Korean Cultural Service welcomes you to the first Free 
Movie Night series of 2013. Now let’s get animated!

Tuesday, February 26, 2013 @ 7pm 
THE WINDOW (2012, ACCOMPANIED BY SHORT FILMS)

	From the director of The King of Pigs comes The Window, Yuen 
Sang-ho’s rarely-seen first short feature. Private Jung is proud to be a 
member of a leading military division; but after Private Hong joins, 
everyone starts to get disrupted. Jung tries to train Hong, who is 
indifferent to everything, but he only ends up causing even more trouble. 
After an altercation, troubles become even more intense, leading to a 
shocking, powerful conclusion. 
	This special short feature, which is rarely screened outside of 
Korea, will be accompanied by additional short films. The evening’s 
program will have a two-hour running time.

THE HOUSE (2012)

	The House, which echoes of the wildly surreal worlds seen in 
Spirited Away, focuses on Ga-young, a young woman who moves to an old town 
where she meets Zipsin, the spirit of a house that is soon to be 
demolished. Whisked away on an enchanted adventure, Ga-young and Zipsin 
seek out a new spirit who may be able to help them – and together, they 
hatch a scheme to save the house from those who don’t believe in its 
magic.

PADAK (2012)

	In Korea’s surprisingly powerful take on Pixar’s Finding Nemo, a 
mackerel from the sea named Flappy ends up caught in a net and dumped 
carelessly into a restaurant tank. A pessimistic old flatfish, who has 
somehow avoided death for ages inside the tank, becomes her confidant and 
mentor...even if his means for survival border on cowardice. Very 
quickly, Flappy refuses her fate and becomes determined to make it out of 
the tank and back to the ocean – even if that means going against the old 
flatfish and shattering the hierarchy of the tank. A feel-good adventure 
for the whole family, Padak combines computer animation with traditional 
hand-drawn art, delivering a funny, lovable film that’s also packed with 
social drama and subtext.

THE KING OF PIGS (2011)

	The first animated Korean film to screen at Cannes, the 
award-winning The King of Pigs is near-perfect cinema visualized through 
jaw-dropping animation. Kyung-Min’s business is failing and he’s just 
murdered his wife. On top of that, he can’t stop thinking about his middle 
school days, back when he was one of the lowly, bullied “pigs.” His old 
school friend, Jong-Suk, agrees to meet, and each man tells the other 
polite lies about their wrecked lives. But both of them have one thing on 
their minds: their old class comrade Chul-Yi, the quiet, deadly boy in 
the hoodie who fought back against their aggressors and became, for one 
blazing moment in time, The King of Pigs. 
	An intensely brutal, not-to-be-missed masterpiece.
