MISCELLANEOUS * (2012/10/10) Artist Ronald Cheng Chung Kei while working on his new film LOVE IS PAJAMAS (NAM YUN YU YI FOK) was the target of director Vincent Kok Tak Siu's prank, as he had to recite a tutoring center "beef ball and fish ball" theory educational short film lines. Cheng Chung Kei spent up to a hour to memorize it but finally he learned that the content would not be shown. He was hopping mad. "The lines were the longest in my career, that night when I got home and slept and I had a nightmare." Luckily Kok Tak Siu thought this scene was funny and decided to put it back into the movie. * (2012/10/10) Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Ko Chen-Tung, Michelle Chen, AngelaBaby starred romance TOGETHER (JOI YUT HEI) has already been completed and will be released on Valentine's Day next year in hopes of another success; the film company was very confident and even turned Yen Chi Tan into detective who cannot laugh. He ran into Michelle Chen who has amnesia after an accident. They sympathize with each other as their relationship gradually heats up. This time Yen Chi Tan completely abandoned kung fu for pure romance. He joked that as he grew older he started to want to explore another genre. Ko Chen-Tung hoped that this time the film would not be tragic but use youth persistence and faith in love as the film's bright spot. * (2012/10/10) The Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam starred LOVE LIFTING earlier receives praised in both Hong Kong and the Mainland. Last year it even won the 2012 3rd Le TV Entertainment Awards' Excellent Improvement Actress award, a recognition and commendation for her performance career. Last night Kong Yeuk Lam dressed up for the red carpet. She was very happy and honored to win this award and looked forward to even more exciting performance in the future. * (2012/10/10) Francis Ng Chun Yu earlier accepted an interview on the Luisa Lai Chi San BEST ACTOR program. He said that the most memorable was when he worked with Chow Yun Fat. Fat Gor already memorized the script as soon as he arrived at the set and had many layers. He only spent a second to get into or leave the character. He even said that the pressure on him was even greater. He would use foul language. Every time Fat Gor looked at him he would ask him not to "stare" at him inside. Speaking of his family, Chun Yu said his Singaporean wife agreed that they would tell people that they met at the library. He said that where they met the library was downstairs and the night club was upstairs. He also shared parenthood secrets, one of which was having his son in the sun for ten minutes everyday. When he protected his wife he was involved in a lawsuit, left with a criminal record and fined, he said that he absolutely respected the verdict. Lai Chi San mentioned that many people have said that he had a bad temper. Anthony Wong Chau Sun said that when they worked in the Mainland, a hotel worker asked him for his personal information and he was so angry that he moved the television and furniture out of his room. Myolie Wu Hung Yi also hinted that he crushed a Television City trash can. He said that he was learning everyday, as a Buddhist he would practice. Finally, Ng Chun Yu shared his view on retirement. He said that he told Lau Ching Wan life had first and second half. In show business, everyone wanted to make money or win an award, which was the first half; when they had fame and fortune, what would their goal be? This would be the second half. It was a question that required some consideration and exploration. * (2012/10/10) Three time Hong Kong Film award Best Actor Tony Leung Ka Fai recently was on the first cover of DARIZI MEN'S. Over the years Ka Fai's passion for acting has only increased. Every new character was a new challenge to him. At the same time he already was indifferent to the Best Actor honor. During the interview, he said, "I am even more ordinary than an ordinary person." Ka Fai said, "I always see myself as an ordinary person. The fact is I really am an ordinary person. Acting is only my profession. I am just like an ordinary person. I am working at business hours and resting when I am off; like an ordinary citizen I ride the MTR, cross the harbor on the ferry. I always feel, my performance life is the exciting one. My own life is very ordinary." After 30 years in the business, although he has had colorful experience on the big screen, back in real life he only wanted quiet. Right now he was only after "quiet, stability, environmental protection, simplicity." As the saying goes, behind a successful man is the support of a woman. Ka Fai feels that he is luckier than the average successful man because he has the support of three behind him from his wife and his daughters. Acting is a job with a lot of emotional upheaval. Getting into the character, he sometimes has emotional peak and sometimes frustration. Ka Fai says, "I feel I am very lucky, when I was young I was already married with children. I had a complete family, which enabled me to maintain stability. Acting affecting emotional situation was certain, for example once he shot a very upsetting scene and he felt like he was completely engulfed in rage. "Ordinarily when I get home, the dogs at home would welcome me. Yet that day when I got out of the car, they scattered. That rage was so strong that even pets were able to sense it." However as soon as Ka Fai stepped foot into his home, he was able to cool down very quickly. Because at home the scenery has changed and he would naturally forget everything on the set. * (2012/10/10) The Herman Yau Lai To directed, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Anita Yuen Wing Yi, Jordan Chan Siu Chun, Gillian Chung Yun Tung, Jonathan Wong Chi Hin, Timmy Hung Tin Ming starred film IP MAN THE FINAL FIGHT has already reached the end of its Foshan production. In order to thank the production's effort for over the months, earlier boss Sin Kwok Lam led the actors to a wrap banquet at the studio. Master Sin even contributed several tens of thousands for a cash drawing. Master Sin's contribution for the cash lucky draw brought the banquet to its peak. Master Sin's first winner was actually actress Jiang Luxia. She said, "Accepting the first prize from the Master definitely is a good sign." Another actor Zhou Chuchu also won. Chung Yun Tung due to work was unable to attend the banquet. She very much looked forward to celebrating with the team next time and asked Master Sin to have a cash drawing next time as well so she would have a chance to win. Wong Chau Sun was in good spirit after finishing the shoot. At the banquet he often toasted the cast and the crew. Many workers asked him for photos and he turned down no one. After over a month in production, Chau Sun said that he has already melted into the Ip Man character and could not lose the character's gestures. At the banquet he even unknowingly spoke with Master Ip man's unique Foshan accent. He said, "Today is the last day I am playing Ip Man. This time playing Master Ip Man I am very happy. In the film everyone is like a family. The wrap banquet means that everyone has to part so I am a little reluctant." Chau Sun toasted the workers all over the banquet in appreciation of everyone's hard work over the period. * (2012/10/09) The Emperor new film TRIAD (JAT JIK) poster was unveiled earlier. Lead William Chan Wai Ting even carried the banner alone. The incense offer with the dark red light was heavy on mob flavor. No wonder Chan Wai Ting was confident that the new film would succeed with realism. As for the earlier rumored remake YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI), director Wong Jing although has not officially started production already released the promotional poster at the Busan Film Festival and online. Unfortunately it attracted criticism. Leads Law Chung Him, Philip Ng Won Lung, Oscar Leung Lit Wai and others all chok and showed off their chest and muscles as Wise Guys. Unfortunately the feeling was somewhat posing, many poison tongued comments called it "heavily gay". Some even said that the poster lacked realism. "Which Wise Guy would have such a big chest? In reality every one is bony!" * (2012/10/09) Austin Wai Tin Chi earlier passed away in Beijing. His body was cremated there two days ago. His sister Wai Ying Hung and Sandra went to Beijing for the funeral. Two nights ago Sandy returned from Beijing alone. When reporters took photos and interviewed her, she remained silence and only tightly held on to a paper bag. Conceivably inside was her brother Wai Tin Chi's ashes. When Sandy arrived in Hong Kong, four men picked her up at the airport. * (2012/10/09) TVB's anniversary recommended talk show, the Luisa Lai Chi San hosted BEST ACTOR, invited a different superstar for each episode. They are all Best Actors in the minds of viewers like Andy Lau Tak Wa, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Louis Koo Tin Lok, Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Tony Leung Ka Fai and Eric Tsang Chi Wai. Chi San said that all the guests shared little secrets that few knew about. TVB yesterday promoted the program and aired program highlight and behind the scene footage. Lai Chi San's friends Tam Yuk Ying, Wong Chi Yin, Choi Lap, Auyeung Tak Fan, Ho Chiu, Wilson Chin Kwok Wai and Chi San's fore boyfriend Cheung Tat Lun also attended. Chi San excitedly said that when Lau Tak Wa learned that she was asking him for an interview he agreed without any hesitation. Chi San said, "Leung Chiu Wai's acceptance of my interview was also very surprising. Many artists said that they came to help me, which I truly appreciate. They would in their interviews tell some secrets, a lot of which would be details of their lives. Ting Fung recently had something that happened and did not tell everyone, on the program he would mention it." Lai Chi San said that BEST ACTOR will have 19 episodes and she almost called in all of her favorites. Tse Ting Fung's content was fuller and required 3 episodes. Wong Chau Sun's interview was also divided into 2 episodes. Chi San said, "Chau Sun's content was very interesting, while Ting Fung's was sentimental." Chi San's good friend Miriam Yeung Chin Wa originally planned to attend in support but she has not returned to form after giving birth. Thus yesterday she called Chi San. Chin Wa said that now she was still insisting on breast feeding and so far she has not returned to form. Chin Wa said, "Let me get into shape first, the soonest would be back to work at the end of the month. Otherwise it will be next month." Chin Kwok Wai joked that he saw Stephen Chow Sing Chi pursue Chi San. Chi San also said that on the program she would display some old flames' photos and reminisce. * (2012/10/09) Lau Ching Wan earlier accepted Luisa Lai Chi San's BEST ACTOR program interview. On the show Lai Chi San described Lau Ching Wan as "Show Business Weirdo" because he normally did not join the crowd and rarely spoke. He also looked somewhat alternative. Ching Wan pointed out that when he was little his relationship with his family was quieter. Now it is much better. Ching Wan said that in his show business life, he has worked with Wai Ka Fai often. First they worked together on POLICE CADET (SUN JAT SI HING), then in 1992 THE GREED OF MAN (DAI SI DOI) made him a star. Both series were Wai Ka Fai written and produced. He also because of THE GREED OF MAN met his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming. He said that outside the shoot they did not say one word. Then Vivian Chow Wai Man held a concert and invited them both, only then they started to have a chance to date. Lau Ching Wan said that his wife appreciated his directness the most, but he did not know what he admired his wife for the most. He only felt that he was hers. He believed in destiny very much. Speaking of parenthood, Ching Wan said that the completeness of a family depended on the family's relationship and not on having children. Lau Ching Wan also said that he was nominated 12 times for Best Actor and only won once. He said that he would not deliberately give himself pressure. Now he would only do his best. * (2012/10/08) Austin Wai Tin Chi earlier was found died in his Beijing home. He was 55. His sisters Wai Ying Hung and Sandy took care of his affairs later. Yesterday morning at 9AM, Siu Hung and her sister appeared in Beijing Babaoshan funeral home where Wai Tin Chi's farewell ceremony was held. Industry insiders Tsui Siu Keung, Ben Ng Ngai Cheung, Stephen Tung Wai all paid their respects. Siu Sei's farewell ceremony lasted two hours. Media members attempted to enter the venue for interviews and photos but the workers invited them to leave. Wai Tin Chi's manager said, "Everyone please show some respect. This is a private farewell ceremony, please understand. Sister Siu Hung isn't in a great mood, she won't accept any interview." After the ceremony, Siu Hung and her sister moved to the funeral home door as they solemnly awaited Siu Sei's remain. Although Siu Hung wore sunglasses she still could not hide her sorrow. After the cremation ceremony, Siu Hung and her sister, Tsui Siu Keung, Ng Ngai Cheung, Tung Wai and others went to offer their offering. Siu Hung screamed, "Pick up for Wai Tin Chi, I am bringing you back to Hong Kong." Her sister said, "Brother pick up." They uttered something to themselves and kept sobbing. Siu Hung finally chose an almost 5,000 yuan urn for her brother. Everyone rested for awhile then left Babaoshan. Reporters asked Siu Hung for an interview but she waved her hand and declined. Ng Ngai Cheung said, "I have known Siu Sei for many years. I happened to be in Beijing so I did my part as a friend. I wish a smooth journey for Siu Sei Gor. No one would forget him. I also send my condolences to Sister Siu Hung. (Did Siu Sei have any unfulfilled wish?) I don't know." Tung Wai said, "The ceremony and the hall were simply decorated, later a memorial will take place in Hong Kong. Siu Hung will announce the details." Tsui Siu Keung had no comment. As for the Yeung Pan Pan produced film that Wai Tin Chi originally had a part in, now the film had to recast. Yeung Pan Pan admitted that she was sadden and was reluctant to talk more about Siu Sei. One of the actors Pierre Ngo Ka Nin currently already started work in the Mainland. "The team has already ordered not to mention the recast. I am already at work." One of the leads Chan Koon tai today will go to Dongguan to work on JUNG GA TEET MA LAU (REAL FAKE IRON MONKEY). He said, "When I took the role this was the title, it may change." Ray Lui Leung Wai yesterday appeared at the airport and talked about his friend's death. He said that two to three months ago he and Siu Sei communicated through text messages. He revealed that he wanted to work on a series and even wanted to meet up in Beijing. Later Siu Sei cancelled because he was too tired. * (2012/10/08) The Stephen Fung Tak Lun directed TAICHI 0 (TAI GIK 1 JUNG LING HOI CHI) earlier participated in the Venice and Toronto International Film Festival and caught overseas media attention. Recently Fung Tak Lun signed with Paradigm Agency. TAICHI meanwhile in the Mainland has already successfully passed the 100 million yuan mark. In a few short days Fung Tak Lun and lead actress AngelaBaby joined the hundred million director and actress class. Fung Tak Lun admitted from the creation to the completion, TAICHI 0 was a highly difficult challenge for him. The most challenging was to mix in video game ideas into the traditional kung fu film. Because of this different idea, Paradigm Agency became interested in him. He said, "TAICHI 0 started from zero, I too started from TAICHI. In the future I will have different new attempts, including working with Paradigm Agency. Although right now we don't have any collaboration plan and everything is being studied, I believe it will help with my overseas development in the future." Speaking of the film's over 100 million box office, Fung Tak Lun praised Baby. "If this time we didn't have Baby, TAICHI wouldn't be as exciting. In order to handle the Tai Chi master role, she did not just make a pose on the set. Without any kung fu background she truly started from zero. As early as half a year before the production start she already began to train. She is a very sincere and hard working new comer. The entire team gets credit for the film's good performance, so there is no differentiation like hundred million director or female star, male star. It should be hundred million production team. This achievement is worth sharing with everyone." Baby after learning that she became a hundred million female star said that it was only a title. When the film performed so well, she was the happiest that viewers liked this film and her performance has been recognized. * (2012/10/08) Luisa Lai Chi San's program BEST ACTOR invited many of her Best Actor friends for interviews and shared little secrets with Chi San on the program. The first episode's guest was Andy Lau Tak Wa. Wa Jai has won three Hong Kong Film Award Best Actors and two Golden Horse Award Best Actors. On the program, Wa Jai talked about his beauty secret. He said that he has always paid attention to skin care. Normally he rarely wore make up so before and after he did not look much different. As for his weight he had a exploration period. In 1999 as he prepared for a concert series he started having rice. As the body expended energy without replenishing it, he gradually got thinner and even was rumored to be ill. Luckily later he learned the art of eating rice, so he was able to maintain his shape. Wa Jai also said that once he ran into Sei Gor (Patrick Tse Yin) on a flight. He looked very fit. If he was able to be like him it would truly be incredible. As for female stars who he has worked with, Wa Jai pointed out that he and Ng Sin Lin were the best matched. He also admired her personality. As for the rumor that Anita Mui Yim Fong had a crush on him, Lau Tak Wa said, "Actually it was an admiration, we understood each other's lives very well and we were very close." Yet if he truly had to pick a girlfriend, he would pick either Idy Chan Yuk Lin or Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam. Chan Yuk Lin is pretty and has an unique aura. Years later she still is his Little Dragon Maiden. Kwan Chi Lam has both "quality and body", but at the time he already belonged to someone else so he did not think much of it. Lau Tak Wa also talked about directors who he has worked with. He pointed out that Johnnie To Kei Fung had the "most fire". Back then he would yell without holding back, but that way people understood what he wanted. The most memorable was when he sang the film theme song DAYS OF WALKING TOGETHER (YUT HEI JAU GOR DIK YUT JI), To Kei Fung actually said to him, "Actually Lau Tak Wa could sing!" Wa Jai was known for being hard working, once he was known as "Bull Wa". Lau Tak Wa said that actually every year he would spend two weeks on vacation with his family and another two weeks on vacation on his own as he tried to balance work with life as much as he could. * (2012/10/08) COLD WAR (HONG JIN) was selected to be the 17th Busan Film Festival opening film and received rave reviews locally. COLD WAR also changed its release day to November 8 for a Hong Kong and Mainland simultaneous release. COLD WAR caught the attention of the media and the industry, the 3,000 premiere tickets were sold out in 95 seconds on September 25 and set a record. At the October 4 premiere, almost 4,000 viewers after the screening applauded for over 10 minutes. Korea's Seoul News, Central Daily, KBS and other important media outlet gave large coverage to COLD WAR, calling the film as perhaps the "signal of 'resurrection' for Hong Kong film that has been silent for a long time". The Hollywood Reporter, Screen and other U.S. media also targeted COLD WAR for special introduction, feeling that "COLD WAR elevated the police story genre to a new height". In addition, film companies around the world could not support COLD WAR more as they fought to purchase its rights. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Tony Leung Ka Fai and two directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching's schedules in Busan were packed several days ago, as they tirelessly accepted various media interviews. COLD WAR originally was scheduled for the early October National Day release, but as it became the Busan Film Festival opening film its release was postponed. COLD WAR stars Kwok Fu Sing, Leung Ka Fai and others were very supportive of the schedule change decision and will fully coordinate with the promotion. Leung Ka Fai said that a good movie requires ample promotion to achieve a good performance; Kwok Fu Sing also said, "We can't wait to recommend COLD WAR to even more viewers, visit more places and meet with audiences at even more cinemas." * (2012/10/08) Karena Ng Chin Yu, Bak Leung Gum and his son and Bro member La Ying yesterday promoted LOVE IS PAJAMAS (NAM YUN YU YI FOK) in Mongkok and gave away laundry detergent to pedestrians. Ng Chin Yu said that recently she caught the flu and after the event she would visit the doctor. This time was his first promotion in Mongkok. Was she worried about someone "copping a feel" in the chaos? Chin Wa was not afraid because she had many workers to protect her. Speaking of lead actor Raymond Lam Fung's absence from promotion, Chin Wa pointed out that Lam Fung actually was the one who had it the worst. He was very busy but last week he promoted in the Mainland at several locations. Everyday he had to get up very early and accept many media interviews. He actually was the actor who has participated in the most promotional work. Chin Yu and Lam Fung were linked in rumors due to this film, did they become even more familiar after promoting together? She said that they were very familiar long ago. Lam Fung recently was accused of touching Ella Koon Yun Na's chest in the new series HIGHS AND LOWS (LUI TING SO DUK), Chin Yu said that it was an angle issue. In addition, Chin Yu yesterday attended a charity photography exhibit with Christie Wui Man San, Eydie Tai, Cissy Wang and others. Wui Man San invited Kam Kwok Leung, Eydie Tai, Laurinda Ho Chiu Lin and Ng Chin Yu to model. * (2012/10/07) Last year Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai) suffered a stroke and became hemiplegic, then his second wife and children reportedly were after his wealth. Current resting in a nursing home, Lau Ka Fai is already slowly recovering. Every week he receives physical therapy, acupuncture and massage therapy. He has recovered 40% of his mobility. Although the monthly medical expense is over 30,000, his manager Eva said that Brother Ka Fai is paying all the expenses himself and stressed that he has no financial problem at all! Bravely standing up again Lau Ka Fai after the stroke has been working hard on his therapy. Although he declined to see his wife and children, he was not lonely because he had many friends. This Mid Autumn Festival, many on and off screen co-workers and friends visited Brother Ka Fai like Ti Lung, Chan Koon Tai, Fan Yik Man, Wai Ka Hung and Lam Wai at the nursing home. Even though Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Vivian Lai Shui Yan did not appear, they sent moon cake for Brother Ka Fai to celebrate with. Although Brother Ka Fai was still slim, he was in great spirit. Lau Ka Fai's manager Eva and Fan Yik Man often visited him as well. For the Mid Autumn Festival Fan Yik Man even gave Brother Fa Fai lai see for good luck. When Brother Ka Fai's elders Chow Keung and Chan Koon Tai spoke about kung fu, Brother Ka Fai was especially excited. Brother Tai said to Ka Fai, "When you get better, fight strong!" Then everyone made a kung fu pose. According to Eva, a foreign friend Joe originally wanted to study with Brother Ka Fai. Although Brother Ka Fai suffered a stroke and Joe could not become his disciple, he still deliberately came to Hong Kong to visit Brother Ka Fai. Another friend Ti Lung even brought chicken essence and snacks when he visited. He even grabbed Brother Ka Fai's hand to encourage him to keep working hard and ignore how others look at him. In addition, Wai Ka Hung, John Chiang Dai wai and Brother Ka Fai once worked together on the Radio and Television Hong Kong current affair comedy ROOMS TO LET. Wai Ka Hung and the on and off screen talent knew Brother Ka Fai liked shrimp dumpling so they took him for Dim Sum. Brother John in LET played Brother Ka Fai's brother. Although he did not have time for Dim Sum he still called. Lam Wai and the FSD production team brought soup and food to spend the holiday with Brother Ka Fai. Eva revealed that TVB had many co-workers who called Brother Ka Fai. Actually Brother Ka Fai's progress has been good and his eyes were sharp. A friend's zipper was unzip and he saw it right away. Now Brother Ka Fai every week had physical therapy, acupuncture and massage therapy. He has already recovered 40% of his movement. Every month the expense was over 30,000, which Brother Ka Fai paid on his own. She stressed that Brother Ka Fai's finance has no problem at all. * (2012/10/07) Wai Ying Hung's brother Austin Wai Tin Chi earlier was suspected of collapsing at home after excessive dieting and exercising and passed away in his Beijing home. Siu Hung who was working on a series in Hengdian immediately took two days off to handle her brother's affairs in Beijing. Yesterday Siu Hung and her sister Sandy held a viewing for Siu Sei in Beijing Babaoshan crematorium and accompanied him on his final journey. Siu Sei's remains today will be cremated today. Siu Hung said that her brother's ashes will be brought back to Hong Kong. Yesterday around 11, Siu Hung and Sandy met with the police at a dog management office in Chaoyang, Beijing. After three hours, they head to a morgue and brought Siu Sei's remains to the Babaoshan crematorium. Siu Hung was obviously down but remained very friendly with the media. "I hope the media can understand my emotions. I understand that everyone is just working. You can follow, but don't go overboard. I don't want something else to happen because of this. Thank you!" * (2012/10/06) Emperor new film TRIAD (JAT JIK) director Daniel Chan earlier worked with Simon Yam Tat Wa, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and others on the film CROSS (DAI 6 GAI). As a Catholic Daniel wanted the script to be a satire of Catholicism, but due to a difference of opinion with investors and producers finally they parted ways. After CROSS' release, the director and screen writer credits became "collective creation" as the film even became a Christian gospel film and left a bitter taste in Daniel's mouth. Lead actor Yam Tat Wa also admitted that problems arose during the shoot and revealed that he worked on 4 days of reshoot for free. * (2012/10/06) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan in the film LOVE IS PAJAMAS (NAM YUN YU YI FOK) played an underwear designer. In order to help her brother Raymond Wong Pak Ming to win back his girlfriend, she suggested for him to like what she liked and danced at a dance school. In real life, Mo Shun Kwan has always studied dance, the story enabled her to thoroughly display her dancing skills. She even offered to dance another segment, but she had to dance for eight minutes in a row. Wong Pak Ming praised Mo Shun Kwan for her energy but he did not know how to dance. He almost cramped up from dancing. Director Vincent Kok Tak Siu joked, "I have to post the dance segment on YouTube!" * (2012/10/06) Jacqueline Chong Si Man, Karena Ng Chin Yu and Rose Chan Ka Wun yesterday attended a cosmetic line demonstration in Tsim Sha Tsui. Reportedly after Jennifer Tse Ting Ting's contract came to term with Wong Jing's company she raided the staff. Chong Si Man admitted that the company management department had four co-workers like Ting Ting left in September. The entire department was empty and others could only take their place temporarily. Chong Si Man said that she could not be certain that they had a plan in advance or everything was a coincidence. Was Wong Jing angry? Chong Si Man said that she has seen him afterward but he did not express his stance. They only talked about the upcoming film YOUNG AND DANGEROUS (GOO WAT JAI). She will play a role in it. Actually her contract will end at the end of next year, but because Wong Jing was busy to negotiate she still could not confirm whether she will save. * (2012/10/06) "Siu Sei Gor" Austin Wai Tin Chi on October 4 was found dead in his Beijing home at the age of 55. His younger sister Wai Ying Hung was heart broken as she confirmed online the news of her brother's passing. Reportedly, Wai Tin Chi was dead for a few days at home before being found on the 4th. Siu Hung originally was working on a series in Hangzhou. She immediately took time off to fly to Beijing yesterday. Yesterday around 2PM, Siu Hung along with her young sister and Joey Yung Cho Yi's assistant Sandy came out of security check point and left the airport. Wai Ying Hung later arrived at a justice center to handle her brother's affairs. His sister and several family members and friends waited for a long time outside. After meeting up they chatted outside for awhile before going into the justice center office. Siu Hung casually smoked with everyone and simply chatted before leaving. The process took about 30 minutes. Siu Hung yesterday said that she took a few days off from her Hangzhou production. Now she is taking care of business in Beijing. Later her brother's remains will be transported back to Hong Kong, but the date and the time have yet to be determined. * (2012/10/06) The 7th Busan International Film Festival two nights ago held its opening ceremony. The Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Tony Leung Ka Fai led COLD WAR (HONG JIN) opened the event. COLD WAR heroic duo Kwok Fu Sing and Leung Ka Fai along with two directors Longman Leung Lok Man and Sunny Luk Kim Ching attended the opening film press conference. At the press conference, the event said that the premiere night tickets quickly sold out. Leung Ka Fai said that Korean fans missed him and Kwok Fu Sing too much. Kwok Fu Sing pointed out that being able to attend Korea's largest and one of the most important film festivals in Asia was truly a honor. This time Sing Sing and Ka Fai will stay for four short days but they hope to be able to meet more viewers. Ka Fai also said, "This is my first visit to Busan. I hope to share COLD WAR with everyone and hope that everyone would like it!" Kwok Fu Sing said, "This is already my second visit to Busan! The last time was six years ago with the film AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (FU JI)! I am deeply honored to be able to come with COLD WAR as the opening film six years later!" The two Best Actors used Korean to say "I love you" and "thank you" to please the audience. After the premiere the audience response was enthusiastic and the applause lasted ten minutes. * (2012/10/05) Tony Leung Kai Fai and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing worked together on the Johnnie To Kei Fung film THROW DOWN (YAU DOH LUNG FU BONG), At the 2005 Golden Horse Award and 2006 Hong Kong Film Award they competed. Finally Sing Sing won the Golden Horse Best Actor while Ka Fai won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor, an even split of sorts! Speaking of first meeting, Leung Ka Fai who had an earlier start in the film industry admitted that when he first saw Sing Sing jump from music to movies he was upset. Ka Fai said, "When he joined the film industry, he already was the king of dance. At the time I thought why would he stick his foot in here, don't come to the film industry to 'hit soy sauce', just do what he was good it. Later I discovered how much variety he had in his role selection. Some were even very difficult. He would take some alternative films. I slowly understood that he truly wanted to be a good actor, he wanted to achieve something in film and was an outstanding actor who had a goal. How can I not silently support and encourage him!" Just the opposite, Sing Sing's impression of Ka Fai has never changed from the start. Sing Sing said, "If everyone looked back at the interviews years ago, they would discover the years ago I already said that Ka Fai is an actor I really like. I feel that he is a natural born actor with a charisma. When the film company told me that this time my COLD WAR (HONG JIN) co-star was him, I really couldn't be happier. Working with him could trigger a tremendous explosion." Aside from explosion, Leung Ka Fai even joked that they had a chemistry that came within. They did not say much and would already coincidentally did their best with a good script. They would not steal scenes, fight over scenes, they were good partners that put people's minds at ease. Since they appreciated each other so much, a good question arose. Once film award rivals, if they competed again with the new film who would win? Leung Ka Fai's answer was the most centered. "If it really happens, from a fairness angle I would feel I shouldn't win, he shouldn't win either. The best would be both winning it together. We even have to hold hands to accept it. That can increase our future collaboration chances because directors may have fantasies about us and want to use us again. Then we can compete in another film." Sing Sing agreed. * (2012/10/05) Emperor Motion Picture TRIAD (JAT JIK) got first dibs on the Wise Guy remake trend, as William Chan Wai Ting, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Edward Chui Woai Tung turned into a new generation of Wise Guys and added a bloody storm to the mob. Because the film had plenty of "show of strength" scene, over 100 extras were used earlier. In one scene over 100 people in black with wood in their hands stepped in the busy streets. Pedestrians misunderstood them for the real mob and called the police. Finally actual police patrol arrived. Chan Wai Ting praised how invested the production was in the film. He said, "the show of force scene had so many extras, the pressure during the shoot was enormous since one bad take would lead to another shoot with 100 people. Before hand we would rehearse a few times, hoping that during the official shoot we could get it in just one take." Aside from alerting the authorities, even real Wise Guys thought another group was "taking over". However when they saw Chan Wai Ting they knew it was just a movie shoot. They even praised the actors as convincing. The shaken Chui Woai Tung said, "Seeing the real mobsters, I was afraid that they would drive us away. Thus during the shoot I was a little scared, luckily they only watched a little and left." * (2012/10/05) Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin and Chapman To Man Jat lately have been working in Shenzhen on the film CHIU CUP GAING LEI YUN (SUPER AGENT). His real manager Mani Fok Man Hei earlier visited the set and three real and fake managers posed for a photo together. Mani visited to celebrate To Man Jat's Best Comedy Actor award in Texas' Fantastic Fest with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) and the Golden Horse Best Actor and Supporting Actor nominations. * (2012/10/05) Working in the Mainland in recent years, action star Austin Wai Tin Chi's sister Wai Ying Hung yesterday confirmed his death in Beijing at the age of 55. Siu Hung posted in memory of her brother, "I am very sad, very sad!", "Brother farewell!", "Farewell, miss you!" Then when reporters contacted Siu Hung, she said that because she could not find her brother for a few days she contacted her manager to check up on him at his Beijing home. After opening the door her brother was found dead. She still had no idea what happened. This morning she flew to Beijing to find out. As for his last online update, it took place on the 21st. He wrote, "It's not that I am not updating my microblog. Lately I haven't been feeling well. First I have been seeing a doctor for arthritis for a month and a half, then persistent coughing. First I went to see Respiratory Medicine Department, then the Endocrinology Department, even Ear, Nose and Throat Department conducted numerous exams. Finally it wasn't anything. I went to the drug store to pick up a five day regiment. I was much better after two days. I was so mad." John Chiang Dai Wai was shocked to hear about the passing. Although Siu Sei joined the business later than he did, they have worked together. When he directed he asked Siu Sei to be the action director, so they were familiar. Lately they have been busy and had less contact. He regretted that Siu Sei would pass away at such a young age. Chik Mei Chun and Michael Miu Kiu Wai often worked with Siu Sei at TVB. Sam Gor even played soccer with Siu Sei so they were very familiar. Chik Mei Chun was shaken and teary eyed when she said, "In the past 8 or 10 years we had less contact. I think we went to work in the Mainland. Sam Gor probably hasn't heard the news yet. It's very surprising." In addition, Joey Yung Cho Yi's assistant Sandy is Wai Tin Chi's sister. Emperor manager Mani Fok Man Hei was very surprised to learn about Siu Sei's death. She originally wanted to contact Sandy right away but did not dare to because she felt she would bother her at this time; later she will call to see if she will need any assistance. The company will give her time off. Wai Tin Chi was born in Hong Kong in 1957. A descendant of the Manchurian Plain Yellow Banner, he was the fourth child in the family and thus called Siu Sei. He was Wai Ying Hung's older brother. When he was little his father was swindled had to declare bankruptcy. His family was poor, he once studied Beijing opera at the Chun Chau Opera Academy and a disciple under famous actress Fun Kuk Fa. He began his film career in his teens and worked on many martial art and action films like HEAVEN SWORD AND DRAGON SABRE PART II (YI TIN DOH LUNG GEI DAI GEI GUK) and FULL MOON SCIMITAR (YUET YUEN WAN DOH). In the 80s he joined TVB and made mostly costume martial art series like THE LEGEND OF THE CONDOR HEROES (SEH DIU YING HUNG JUEN), THE FOUNDATION (KUET JIN YUEN MO MOON), THE RETURN OF LUK SIU FUNG (LUK SIU FUNG ji FUNG MO GAU TIN) and others. Recently he eased out of show business into business, occasionally he would guest star in movies. Wai Tin Chi had two marriages that both ended in divorce. In 1996 he wed female artist Ban Ban and had one son. In 2001 they announced their divorce. * (2012/10/05) Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) in LOVE IN PAJAMAS (NAM YUN YU YI FOK) played a successful fashion design business woman. Originally her character had to be very solemn and serious, but in front of the comedy expert Teresa Mo Shun Kwan she often could not help but laugh. Aside from facing Sister Mo's comical nature, Hung Doi Lam also had to handle Ronald Cheng Chung Kei's suddenly improvisation. She pointed out that Cheng Chung Kei often imitated Aaron Kwok Fu Sing's dance steps in front of her, which gave Lynn a very hard time with holding back her laughter. "I have worked with Cheng Chung Kei for several times already, each time he would keep making everyone laugh. Even if he zipped up his mouth, I could not help but laugh. Maybe his comical nature has already completely been absorbed into every part of his body." Cheng Chung Kei also admitted that he was deliberately setting her up. "Hung Doi Lam's Cantonese has improved a lot. This time she had the courage completely to speak it. I feel she is getting funnier and funnier, so I really like to prank her. I would mention Kwok Fu Sing with everything, like at the press conference when someone asked what kind of men she liked. I would answer for her before she could, 'No one here is right, only Kwok Fu Sing is right!' Ha ha!" * (2012/10/04) The 49th Golden Horse Award nominations have already been nominated. The film BEIJING BLUES and MYSTERY were originally nominated for Best Original Film Song. Later both nominees were discovered not to be original songs. The event and the film companies after confirmation decided to cancel their nominations and left the category with three nominees. * (2012/10/04) The 55th Asia Pacific Film Festival will take place between December 13 and 16 in Macau. Viewing will take place starting at 5PM on October 10 at the Hong Kong funeral home grace hall, the funeral will take place the next day at 8AM and the burial will take place in Shenzhen. Kwan San was originally named Kwan Pak Wai. Born in Shenyang, Liaoning to a Manchurian family, he came to Hong Kong with his parents as the Sino-Japanese War erupted. Soon after both parents passed away one after another and he took over the responsibility of taking care of his family. He has worked as a miner and pier laborer. In 1954 after watching the Doe Ching directed BEYOND THE GRAVE (YUN GWAI LUEN) he became interested in the film industry. In the same year he applied to an independent company but was not hired. In 1956 he applied to the Great Wall film actor training class. A year later he caught director Yuen Yang-An directed THE TRUE STORY OF AH Q (AH Q JING JUEN). The film was invited to participate in the Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland. Kwan Shan received the Best Actor award to become the first Hong Kong actor to in an international film festival award. In 1961, Kwan Shan joined Shaw and starred in many popular dramas like LOVE WITHOUT END (BUT LIU CHING), THE BLUE AND THE BLACK (LAN YU HAK) to become the most popular melodrama actor of the 60s. Starting in the 70s, Kwan Shan worked in both Hong Kong and Taiwan, even founded the Kwan's Film Company and directed many films. In 1979 he participated in RTV series DRAGON STRIKES (TIN LUNG KUET). In the late 80s, Kwan Shan eased out of the film industry and into business. Later he immigrated to the U.S. but has guest starred in the John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) directed A BETTER TOMORROW 2 (YING HUNG BOON SIK 2). * (2012/10/04) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan, Raymond Wong Pak Ming and Vincent Kok Tak Siu yesterday appeared on Clifton Ko Chi Sum's ATV program. Mo Mo said that since ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL TOO (FA TIN HEI SI) 20 years ago she rarely ran into Wong Pak Ming and they have never worked together. This year she finally will work on Wong Pak Ming's Lunar New Year. Reporters remembered that in the past she worked on Eric Tsang Chi Wai's Lunar New year film, this year she switched sides. Mo Mo joked, "That's right, Chi Wai didn't care. He even said great, this year he will have such a strong competition." Mo Mo and Ko Chi Sum years ago originally planned to work on plays I HAVE A DATE WITH SPRING and YAN YU HONG CHUAN, but both times she became pregnant after signing the contract. She has never had the chance to perform on the stage again because it took a long time to prepare. Will she return to TVB for a series? Mo Mo immediately shook her head and said that she would not make another series, over 400 episodes were enough. She said, "Series production is very tough, don't bother me again." Reporters said that Francis Ng Chun Yu has said that he would not work on another series but now has returned home. Mo Mo said, "I too want to be tempted with money." Wong Pak Ming revealed that this year's Lunar New Year film will be Kok Tak Siu directed, aside from Mo Mo the cast will also have Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Chapman To Man Jat and Sandra Ng Kwan Yu. This time will be an inspirational story about a group of people. He also revealed that originally he wanted to work with Chi Wai on a Lunar New Year film. They even met several times about it but finally they still decided that the rivalry would be more fun; now that they knew what the other one will make and the competition will be positive. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, OCTOBER 10 2012, MILKYWAY BRILLIANCE KWAN SHAN's LEFT RIGHT ROMANCE The top 60s Hong Kong film industry young actor Kwan Shan is known to young people for his beautiful daughter Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam. Yet in the hearts of the previous generation of movie lovers, he was Casanova and Romeo as well the first Chinese to win an international film festival Best Actor award. Back then at age 25 he with the film THE TRUE STORY OF AH Q (AH Q JING JUEN) made a name for himself internationally. Kwan Shan went from being a miner, pier laborer to Best Actor. After making a name for himself with the left wing camp he headed for freedom and worked in Taiwan. The mysteries of life never end. He coincidentally passed away on the 63rd anniversary of Communist China, his funeral took place today, Taiwan's Double Ten anniversary. Whether intentionally or not, it reflected the Best Actor of a generation's performance life that was around the left and the right. - Lee Sam Originally named Kwan Pak Wai, Kwan Shan in 1933 was born in Shenyang, Liaoning. As the Sino-Japanese War erupted he immigrated to Hong Kong with his parents, soon after which both his parents passed away. As the oldest son in the family Kwan Shan took over the responsibility of taking care of his young brother. He first worked as a miner, pier laborer, bodyguard and other jobs. At age 21 something happened that changed Kwan Shan's life. After seeing Director Ching Doe directed BEYOND THE GRAVE (YUN GWAI LUEN) he became interested in joining the film industry. He first applied to the "Independent Company" and failed. Then in 56 he applied to the Left Wing company Great Wall's actor training class. There he met a classmate who later became his wife Chang Ping-Sie. At the time Great Wall rented a classroom on Boundary Street in Kowloon and taught mainly in Mandarin, which naturally was no trouble for Kwan Shan from the North. During the training class days he had HK$50 daily for transportation. With a chance to performance he got another HK$9 bonus daily. For the average salary of thirty some dollars at the time, it was already considered decent. TRUE STORY OF AH Q Won Best Actor During the training class Kwan Shan's honest look and familiarity with farm village life caught director Yuen Yang-An's eyes as he offered him the film TRUE STORY OF AH Q, which was also the second turning point of his life. During the production because Kwan Shan had no acting experience, almost his every move was the result of the director's hard work. In 1958 Yuen Yang-An brought the film to participate in the Locarno Film Festival, the four longest running film festival in the world. Kwan Shan with AH Q won his first award, the film festival's Best Actor Award. He was also the first Chinese to win Best Actor at an international film festival. Actually during the production of AH Q Yuen Yang-An was at odds with his old company and has already funded the start of Sun Sun Film Enterprise. He added Kwan Shan and Chang Ping-Sie to the roster. Yuen formed the new film company mainly to make his daughter nicknamed Mo Mui a star but to no avail. Later Mo Mui (Christine Liao) went to study ballet in England. After returning to Hong Kong she began to teach ballet. Headed For Freedom, Working in Taiwan In 1960 Kwan Shan and Chang Ping-Sie wed. Two years later they gave birth to older daughter Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam. In 61 he left Sun Sun Film Enterprise to join Shaw and started to work on movies in Taiwan. At the time the left and the right were clear cut, Taiwan promoted him as "headed for freedom". Kwan Shan was deemed very important in Taiwan and since he mainly made Mandarin films his Hong Kong identity became blurred. Actually in his Shaw era he made many representative films, including THE BLUE AND THE BLACK (LAN YU HAK) and LOVE WITHOUT END (BUT LIU CHING) with Linda Lin Dai. He also made some erotic films that were popular at the time. In 72 he founded the Kwan's Film Company and directed films like BRUTAL BOXER (TONG YUN HAK). In 1975 he and his wife divorced and in the 80s he gave up film for business and immigrated to the U.S., only occasionally guest starring in television and film. Kwan Shan returned to Hong Kong in his later years, despite an angioplasty he still smoked and drank. In the beginning of the year he was confirmed to have lung cancer and passed away on the 1st. Today on the Taiwan Double Ten Anniversary his funeral will take place. Luck With the Ladies Kwan Shan not only had an interesting left and right career, his handsome and tall look also made his love life colorful. At age 27 Kwan Shan wed his fellow actress Chang Ping-Sie. Two years later their oldest daughter Rosamund Kwan Chi Lam was born. Kwan Shan loved this daughter who resembled him very much, but the couple relationship changed because Kwan Shan often had different women around him. In 1971 Chang Ping-Sei gave birth to their son Sai Wa in hopes of holding on to her husband. However they finally ended up in a divorce. His wife took their son and immigrated to the U.S. Kwan Chi Lam as an adult followed her father's foot steps and joined show business. At age 20 she married a businessman who she has only known for 2 months, which left a crack in their father and daughter relationship. Kwan Shan has luck with the ladies in his life. At age 67 he was caught with a girlfriend over 30 years his junior Jenny. He even brought two women to the race tracks during the Lunar New Year. Two years ago Kwan Shan due to a stroke was hospitalized. His girlfriend of ten years Jenny also left him. With his daughter's care they made up. Earlier Kwan Shan was ailing, the children were by his side. Chi Chi even selected the grave site for her father in Shenzhen. Young Tragedy Actor's Tear Jerking Classic Kwan San participated in over 80 films, the best known was not only the award winning TRUE STORY OF AH Q but also the romantic melodrama in the 60s. TRUE STORY OF AH Q (1957) The film was based on Lu Xun's book of the same title. Ah Q gathered the end of the Qing Dynasty early Republic typical Chinese evil into one. The film retained the original's spirit and thoroughly displayed Ah Q's dastardly personality that longed for spiritual victory. The film on the surface made fun of this tragic character but actually was spurring people on. LOVE WITHOUT END (1961) Kwan Shan after joining Shaw has worked with Linda Lin Dai on several romantic films. In the film Lin Dai after her mother's passing came to live with her uncle in Hong Kong, met Kwan Shan and fell in love. Lin Dai in order to help her boyfriend agreed to travel aboard with a rich businessman. After returning to Hong Kong Lin Dai realized that she had a terminal disease and passed away with her boyfriend by her side. THE BLUE AND THE BLACK (1966) BLUE was released in two parts and based on the Wang Lan's novel of the same title that was called one of the four great War Against Japanese Aggression novels. The film's backdrop was the resistance against Japan. Kwan Shan and Lin Dai were both orphans and grew fond of each other, but fate kept them apart. The film theme song was sung by Aunt Six Mona Fong Yat Wa. TOO LATE FOR LOVE (1967) The War Against Japanese Aggression was a popular film subject. This film again injected romantic tragedy elements to jerk tears. Kwan Shan played a soldier in the front lines and left his wife to live with his mother. The mother in law and the daughter in law did not get along, the wife had lung disease and was forced to end the marriage. After the war the couple reunited but death kept them apart. 2. MING PAO DAILY, OCTOBER 7 2012, FILM WORDS ROBO G: WONDERFUL VETERAN TO THE RESCUE The nation of Japan is very strange, the innocent and polite and the dirty and wild take to their own extremes. It alos has a subtle sense of humor. With multiple return engagements in Hong Kong, the play UNIVERSITY OF LAUGHS sharply satirizes the Japanese military era's art and literature inspection in a brutally hilarious way. Japanese animation and comic books are often original, with dark parody and innocent fun. Japanese comedy films like THE YEN FAMILY and SUMO DO SUMO DON'T were once popular with the Hong Kong audience. Japanese comedy often are better the smaller they are, the new release ROBO G is not small not also obviously outdated. Wonderfully it achieves an unique fun. ROBO G Is Thoughtful And Human ROBO G is a robot comedy. Japan has long been under the spell of robots. From GANBARE!! ROBOCON to TRANSFORMERS the variety is endless. The advanced nation is also actively studying and producing robots. The Shinobu Yaguchi written and directed film on the other hand is "anti advanced" "falling behind". A certain home appliance company tries its hand on robots, the three kids who are responsible stumbles and in the last minute hires a retired old man to play a robot. They never expect an unprecedented success, but they are also stuck as they trigger a series of strange adventures that leaves the audience not knowing whether to laugh or to cry. This senior comedy stars the 70 some year old Mickey Curtis as the "human robot". The story is very everyday, full of sense of life yet familiar and funny. The three idiots are furious with this old man. Yuriko Yoshitaka as the university student who is obsessed with the robot is direct and lovable. This film even displays that Japanese comedy is also very serious. The trio at an university forum steals ideas for robot technology and works hard on creating a real robot to cover up. Although they keep failing their spirit is commendable. It is far better than the always superficial Chinese science fiction. The story in the end still has an unexpected trick up its sleeve, funny yet not absurd it is very thoughtful and human. Mickey Curtis once was a band singer, Rakugo comedy artist and actor. This time he plays this mischievous senior with humor and even becomes a beauty rescuing and dummy saving hero. (three and a half out of five stars) TAICHI 0 Is Short On Substance As for the Stpehen Fung Tak Lun directed, Chen Kuo-Fu produced TAICHI 0 is a comic book style martial art action special effect film. During the National Day period its Mainland box office was decent, but its Hong Kong release has not been too popular. New Mainland martial art star Yuan Xiaochao played an end of Qing Dynasty kung fu kid, slow in the head but has a natural gift. He tries everything to go to Chen Jaia Gou to study Tai Chi and keeps having adventures. Fung Tak Lun's film sense is very lively. This time he uses massive computer magic and interesting subtitles, as well as a Western mechanical "monster" that resembles a mobile city castle. The film is weird and strange, the action designs are particularly lively, but the parody gets very absurd. Lead Yuan Xiaochao is very agile but not funny enough. He does not have the star feel of the young Jackie Chan, Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit) or Stephen Chow Sing Chi. The most wonderful in this film is the Tony Leung Ka Fai played weirdo master. Female lead AngelaBaby Yeung Wing is also attractive. This is the first installment, the story has not yet reached its peak. Hopefully the second installment TAICHI HERO would get better and better. Reportedly a third installment is in the works, will the best be saved for last? The first installment is already filled with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan on and off screen talent galore. The production is quite a big deal, just excessive with the superficial and short of substance. (two and a half out of five stars) CROSS Is Fragmented Overall Another independent Hong Kong film CROSS (DAI 6 GAI) includes directors Daniel Chan Yi Heng, Lau Kin Ping, Hui Shu Ning and others. The Simon Yam Tat Wa led cast is also strong. This is a mystery with an unique idea: a religious freak conducts murders to help others commit suicide and turns himself in to the police. However there is a mystery within the mystery, as it involves an internet conspiracy that uses others to kill. Who is the real killer? This film's set up and visuals are different and unusual, unfortunately it seems to be never officially completed. Seemingly it has passed through many screen writers' and directors' "hands", thus it gets more and more confusing. The entire film has many wonderful parts but overall it is fragmented.
