MISCELLANEOUS * (2012/09/05) Nicholas Tse Ting Fung in the film THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) played a hot blooded detective who while in pursuit of a robber who targeted prostitutes jumped from the second floor without any hesitation. When Ting Fung saw how high the jump would be he could not help but laugh. "I have to jump again? No!" Finally he still personally performed the stunt. In order to display the impact, when Ting Fung landed he threw his body toward the stone wall then limped along as he ran. He landed too hard twice and ran into the cobblestone road. The crew was worried that he was injured. Yet the director did not relent and asked for more takes. During the break Ting Fung also vomited. He was on the wire for over 20 hours and could not catch his breath. This shot took over 3 hours. Ting Fung jumped 9 times but he never complained. * (2012/09/05) Sun Entertainment Culture celebrated its first anniversary. Yesterday a press conference was held at the Four Seasons Hotel to announced a series of projects, including Terence Chui (Siufay)'s Hong Kong Coliseum concert, Chapman To Man Jat's stand up comedy show, magician Liu Chien's 13 show tour; as for films, investments will include Chow Yun Fat and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung in the Wong Jing directed SHUI YU JUNG FUNG, SPL (SAT POR LONG) sequel with Thailand's Tony Jaa dueling Sammo Hung Kam Bo. The final introduction was for the new addition Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, who was introduced as the "music and film heavenly queen". * (2012/09/05) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing in COLD WAR (HONG JIN) played a deputy commissioner of police. He said that when he first read the script he was already deeply moved. Even when the production schedule clashed with his concert world tour, he still took it. In the film, Sing Sing played a father again after AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (FU JI). This time he even displayed his deputy commissioner's tough guy tenderness. During the day Sing Sing not only had to compete with Tony Leung Ka Fai at work but also strong enemies. At night Sing Sing immediately turned into a gentle father, tucking in his sleeping daughter. The entire shoot atmosphere went from the intense battle of wits during the shoot to the warmth of family. In addition, Leung Ka Fai and Eddie Peng Yu-Yen in the film played father and son. Ka Fai said, "This character is a superintendent of police who has served for 30 years. He has many differences of opinion with his fellow police officer son, which creates strong and passionate conflict. It is rather fresh and interesting." Peng Yu-Yen also revealed, "Brother Ka Fai has always been an actor who I admire. He is a very easy going, humorous, and willing to share his performance experience actor. This is the biggest gain from this production for me." * (2012/09/05) The film THE WEDDING DIARY two nights ago held its Hong Kong premiere. Attendees included Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam, Aniu and director Adrian Teh (Cheung Kin Kwok). Aniu's birthday was on August 31 and the director's was on September 1, while Kong Yeuk Lam's was at the end of September. Thus fans presented cakes for them to celebrate with. Aniu came to Hong Kong to promote for a day then had to return to Malaysia, as he was busy with THE WEDDING DIARY 2 theme song and his own record. He never guessed that the film would be released in Hong Kong. Kong Yeuk Lam pointed out that THE WEDDING DIARY was released last Valentine's Day in Malaysia and was very popular. The film company immediately started work on the sequel. She said that they got married in the first film, they became parents in the second. If the second film would receive great response, she too wanted to make a third film. Then they could have a third party between them. Did they get a raise for the sequel? Aniu said, "OK." Were they worried about the Hong Kong box office? Aniu said that he was already very happy about the Hong Kong release. Aniu and Elanne Kong became a couple team after making these two films. Would they receive more performance offers? Aniu would like to but so far he has not. Kong Yeuk Lam said, "Me too! Aniu, I have to depend on you." * (2012/09/04) The 2012 summer vacation film slot has already come to an end. The Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association summed up the box office of the period. 46 first run films were released, 15 more than last year. The overall total summer box office was over HK$339 million, a 5.07% drop from last year. Among the top five grossing films, the only Hong Kong film was VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). In first place was THE DARK KNIGHT RISES with 48.69 million during the summer and over 60 million in total. VULGARIA made 25.49 million during the summer vacation and accumulated almost 26.86 million. AVENGERS with an cumulative box office of 96 million had a huge chance to become the box office champion of the year. The Grand Ocean cinema that has always mainly shown Hollywood hits broke its usual rule with VULGARIA on its fourth week. Chapman To Man Jat two nights ago accepted the "Golden Donkey Award" from the cinema. He said, "Being the Hong Kong film actor whose movie has been at the Grand Ocean cinema for 4 week truly isn't easy." SUMMER VACATION (July 1 to August 31) TOP FIVE BOX OFFICE THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: 79,173,108 THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: 48,692,323 ICE AGE: CONTINENTAL DRIFT: 38,188,528 MADAGASCAR 3 EUROPE'S MOST WANTED: 31,061,549 VULGARIA: 25,498,910 * (2012/09/04) Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man after eight years reunited for the new film THE BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM), which began a production start ceremony yesterday. They already had chemistry from working together numerous times before, on this collaboration they even had more chances for heart to heart chats. As a father Wa Jai pointed out that they did not talk about parenthood, but when "marriage" was mentioned Sammi just smiled. Wa Jai joked that he taught Sammi how to hide it from everyone. Wa Jai this time in the film played a blind person. Over a year ago he visited a center for the blind to learn about the blind. He already knew the 26 English letters as well as some Chinese in Braille, which was completely useless to him in the film as in the film he had to be like an ordinary person. Wa Jai also said that he put on a blindfold to experience being blind and lost his sense of security. Earlier he attended an Paralympics event and he tried playing sports with a blindfold. This time Wa Jai and Sammi worked together again after eight years. Wa Jai said, "We are always so close, actually we haven't worked together too many times. Yet as soon as we took our mark our chemistry came naturally." Did he feel any change in Sammi? He said, "She is thinner." Sammi immediately said, "I have always been thin, have I been fat?" Sammi pointed out that Wa Jai was very passionate about work and still ate very less. This time they have more time to chat, usually about health and fitness, as well as film concepts. Wa Jai pointed out that on their earlier collaborations they instead did not have as many chances to talk. Did they talk about parenthood? Wa Jai said, "I don't talk about that. (What about marriage?) Ha, I taught her how to hide it from you. Wow! Shouldn't I be afraid of the dark after seeing a ghost?" Sammi smiled but neither responded nor countered wedding rumors. Earlier Sammi due to inner ear imbalance halted work. She said that she now has completely recovered. The new film will be a HK$120 million joint investment between Media Asia and Emperor Motion Pictures. The bosses Peter Lam Kin Ngok and Albert Yeung Sau Sing also host the prayer ceremony. Lam Kin Ngok and Yeung Sau Sing said that this collaboration came because they wanted to do something for Hong Kong film and make some movies with sincerity. In the future they will have several collaboration projects. This year alone they will make two movies. Aside from THE BLIND DETECTIVE, the other film will star Tse Ting Fung and East Asia artists. Will they make a movie with Wilfred Lau Ho Lung and Joey Yung Cho Yi? Yeung Sau Sing said, "I don't know, it would depend on the characters." Lam Kin Ngok also said that he would play favorites with any actor and would leave the casting decision with the director. He said, "If the director feels the characters are right, Mr. Yeung and I can even guest star." Yeung Sau Sing laughed and said, "I can't, you do it." * (2012/09/03) The Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Wu Jing starred SPL (SAT POR LONG) was released in Hong Kong in 2005. Although it was a category III film it still made over 7 million. For a category III film the performance was decent. A sequel has always been in the work but unfortunately due to a variety of reasons it did not come to fruition. After seven years ago attentive planning, the film finally has been scheduled for a 2012 production start. Aside from SPL's "Iron Foot" Hung Kam Bo and Wu Jing, top Thai martial artist film star Tony Jaa will join the cast! Yen Chi Tan whose film schedule was jam packed was also considering. Tony Jaa in 2004 with the film ONGBAK made a name for himself with "no special effect, no stunt double" actual martial art in the international film industry. Working with "martial art masters" Hung Kam Bo and Wu Jing for the first time he definitely will be able to set off a lot of spark! For this golden team, the film company held nothing back! Hung Kam Bo and Tony Jaa alone already cost over 40 million in salary and a long time in negotiation, the action director even designed a fatal duel for both to display their abilities! Hung Kam Bo said, "I have been approached but I don't know if it has been confirmed yet. Ask the film company." * (2012/09/03) Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Chin Kar Lok, Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) and Terence Yin (Wan Chi Wai) starred in the film COLD WAR (HONG JIN) with Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Tony Leung Ka Fai. Lam Ka TUng played a Senior Superintendent of Police whose allegiance is unknown. He said that in the past he often played righteous cop, this time as a "non heroic" superintendent he would choose who he worked with and how he worked depending on the situation. Chin Kar Lok also played a Senior Superintendent of Police and was also the action director off screen. He said, "Although it was tiring, I was very pleased and fulfilled." His professionalism received endless compliments from Kwok Fu Sing, who played his superior. "This was the second time I worked with Chin Kar Lok. Many of the stunts were very complex and needed a lot of special effect shots to coordinate with the actual shots. He attentively designed new sequences and techniques to shoot, the audience would definitely feel particularly shocked." * (2012/09/03) The Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Lau Ching Wan, Mini Yang Mi, Jing Boran and Liu Kai Chi starred early Republic action film THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) will open on the 13th in Hong Kong. Ting Fung in the film played a hot blooded detective, naturally he had many action scenes. Luckily he was quite at ease with action films, handling these types of scenes were not difficult at all. In one scene Ting Fung risked his life to personally arrest a criminal, but he was a rich kid and had money to hire a lawyer to set him free. Ting Fung angrily hit the criminal in the police station and thus got a scolding from his superior. Although this scene was simple, Ting Fung still repeatedly rehearsed with the actor who played the criminal and even personally instructed his co-star on how to coordinate. The action film lover Ting Fung not only discussed his fight scene experience with the stunt team but also demonstrated everything from Muay Thai to Wing Chun. He even impersonated the Donnie Yen Chi Tan played Ip Man and said, "Wing Chun -- Tse Ting Fung" and made the stunt team laugh. In another scene Ting Fung, Jing Boran and Lau Ching Wan were under attack in a gun fight. Although Jing Boran worked on a gun fight scene with explosives on him for the first time, he was not nervous at all. He even joked that he was fine with being blown up as long as the production was willing to compensate. Ting Fung already had ample training from THE VIRAL FACTOR (YIK JIN), so the shot dodging scenes went very smoothly. They basically all went with one take. After work he even said, "No pressure performance!" Did he like to wear the title of "action actor"? He would not mind what others called him. Although he did not have a stunt person background he still would risk his life for the film. * (2012/09/03) Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu, Shiga Lin Si Nga, Avis Chan Wai Sing, Angelina Zhang (Cheung Woon Nga), Liu Yuqi and director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai two nights ago began their LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) audience appreciation bus tour from Tsim Sha Tsui. They even toasted to the film reaching the first installment's 9 million at the box office soon. Then they gave away posters to pedestrians, attracting a lot of onlookers and photographers. A magazine recovered Avis to be a rich kid who not only had a mansion in Hong Kong but also three hair salons. Two nights ago he admitted that his father was in the construction business in the Mainland and all of the investments were in the Mainland, but he absolutely was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He has always relied on himself. He said, "Mama always wants us to learn to be independent, even with money we have to rely on ourselves. Thus I have never asked my family for money." Although he had three hair salons, he too started from the bottom (shampoo). His father only helped him a little with his first salon. Did his girlfriend Chrissie Chau Sau Na knew that he was rich? He said, "She only went to see my father's home in the country, she knew my background very well. (Then why are you still roughing it in this business?) Because I have to rely on myself, and since work is entertainment I am not necessarily roughing it. (Now Sister Na isn't more respected than you?) I have never liked to make comparison with money, I don't compare how much a couple is making. As long as work is happy and smooth it's OK!" After this expose, Avis hoped that the paparazzi would not follow up in the Mainland because his parents have always been low key. To avoid being followed he planned to go back less. Among the actresses, Cheung Nga Woon was the sexiest. She joked that she rarely ran into a good rival in Mai she of course could not relax. Thus she kept buying more sexy clothing and left the conservative ones for when she went out. She said, "When I wear something sexy, you are happier too." Yet being sexy had a price. She once caught the flu because she was wearing too little. Liu Yuqi appeared in a tee shirt and was obviously defeated. She said, "I hope all girls are sexy, then I would feel a sense of achievement. (Are you not afraid of being felt up?) I have never run into that, I will worry about it when I do." She also revealed that the company thought that she was fat and she has begun to work hard on losing weight, thus she dropped a cup size. She said, "Now I am slimmer, clothing could slip off easier. I have taken even more wardrobe malfunction precautions. Even if the dress truly slipped off I wouldn't be scared." Later she will begin promoting another film DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI). She said that she would be something more nutritious because she was worried about catching another cold and not having time to see a doctor. * (2012/09/02) The Angelababy starred 3D action TAI CHI two nights ago held its global premiere at the 69th Venice Film Festival. The premiere took place at midnight and when it ended it was past 2AM. Most of the premiere audience remained until the end of the credits and gave the cast enthusiastic applause and cheer, which gave Angelababy a film watching experience that both touching and joyous. The TAI CHI premiere took place early in the morning. Venice jury member director Peter Chan Ho Sun also attended. During the screening, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Eddie Peng Yu-Yen and Angelabay's appearance all received passionate applause from the audience. When the screening ended it was past 2Am, most of the audience stayed to cheer for the TAI CHI team. Leung Ka Fai suddenly thought of a "rock and roll" photo pose for the cast. Angelababy later said, "I have seen the first cut, I never thought that after the special effect and animation I would be even more excited. I truly had a lot of fun and hopefully I will be able to see the 3D version a little earlier." After the TAI CHI premiere, Angelababy immediately returned to the Mainland for his film production. * (2012/09/01) Recently Angelababy has caught the eye of a Beijing film company, which plans to make her the female lead in the Chinese version of ROMAN HOLIDAY and turn her into the classic goddess Audrey Hepburn! Next year will be the ROMAN HOLIDAY's 60th anniversary, a Beijing film company saw an opportunity and purchased the remake right from the U.S. company. Famous Hong Kong director Fruit Chan Gor will direct. As for the male leads, the film company is interesting in Jacky Cheung Hok Yau and popular Mainland actor Wen Zhang. The film will start production next year and the team will fly to Rome, Italy for the location shoot. Baby after transforming into Hepburn will visit local historical structures. Director Chan Gor admitted that the film company has approached him about the film. "Someone asked me but it still doesn't have a title yet. Someone also suggested the female lead to be Baby. (Do you feel she has the right aura?) She is fine but nothing has been confirmed yet. (Is the copyright very expensive?) I don't know about that." Baby's manager remained reserved. She said, "For now no one has made contact." Cheung Hok Yau said that for now he has not heard any news. * (2012/09/01) The Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi starred THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR DUNG SI HAU 2) two days ago opened in Hong Kong on 13 screens and only made HK$20,000 as she was stuck with the "box office poison" title. Actually, the film has already bettered Pak Chi and Kwon Sang-Woo's SHADOWS OF LOVE. SHADOWS OF LOVE only opened with HK$13,251. THE LION ROARS 2 managed to save face in the Mainland. Since opening in the Mainland on August 17, it accumulated over 70 million yuan RMB. Although it has not passed 100 million, it was leaps and bounds better than Cheung Pak Chi's previous 5 films. When SHADOWS OF LOVE was released in the Mainland, its total box office was only 16 million yuan RMB. * (2012/09/01) Irene Wan Bik Han appeared on a Cable new program interview and shared the unforgettable experience from her first two films. She admitted that when she worked on the bed scene with Ng Man Tat the feeling was very hard to take and thus she left the film industry. "When I was 17 and made the Mak Tong Hung directed EVERLASTING LOVE (DING BUT LIU DIK OI), I played a woman of the night and had daring kiss scenes. I was very resistant and disliked making bed scenes. The director told me I had to work with (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, but later he suddenly said that I had to work on another one with Ng Man Tat. I felt like I was lied to." Wan Bik Ha at the time was young and several scenes were made very dirty. She worked on them in tears, but because the story required them she could only accept them. After the film was released, Wan Bik Ha's parents were upset and she decided to leave the film industry and go back to school. Now looking back at this film, Wan Bik Han felt that both the subject and the script were very classic and it was a very successful movie. * (2012/09/01) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Pakho Chau's basketball team HKCWI two nights ago competed in a friendly match. Speaking of Pang Ho Cheung asking Yue Man Lok and Susan Shaw Yam Yam to work on the category III film I WANT MORE AGAIN (GUOON YUN NGOR YAU YIU), he said that he might have to wait until it would be in production and back pedal as he made fun of himself as a "flat rear" person. Did he lack confidence in himself? He said, "I am afraid of a lack of box office, if no one would watch it it would be worse. I would tell the director to concentrate on making other stuff, my schedule next year is still very full! (Are you confident about your rear?) What is there to see, my rear is flat and has no career line!" Was he giving Sister Yam Yam the cold shoulder? He immediately said that he was giving himself the cold shoulder, without Sister Yam Yam he definitely would not make it. With her he might cautiously consider it. He also stated that he just did not want to disappoint anyone. Perhaps he would be able to use a double. Reporters said that he lacked sincerity. He helplessly said, "Fine! I will show it! I will show my face first! If VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KEI)'s box office is even a buck higher than LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUNG GIU YU JI MING) I won't make it!" Which men's rear did he appreciate? He was surprised and said why would he look at a man. If he truly started he was afraid that it would become a bad habit. Has he checked out "female rear"? He said, "What am I going to look at guys! Obviously I am not discriminating against anyone!" * (2012/09/01) The Andrew Lau Wai Keung directed 3D film production THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) will be released around Christmas. Recently he and producer Peter Chan Ho Sun were "messing around" as they and actors Huang Xiaoming, Ethan Juan (Yuen King Tin), Chris Lee Yuchun, Shawn Yue Man Lok and Jing Boran all wore sunglasses for a promotional photo series, just like when they put on 3D glasses to watch the movie. On the day of the shoot, the promotion found over 100 pairs of Rayn-Ban sunglasses for them to choose. After picking their favorites, they each made the strangest and the funniest expressions that would reflect their excitement when they would watch the special effect film with 3D glasses. The always demanding Chan Ho Sun even used his own sunglasses. He felt that it was the pair that was the most suitable for his image. The group had more and more fun as they were full of expressions. Huang Xiaoming put on a pair of sunglasses and already had an exceptionally "mischievous" expression. The usually cool Yue Man Lok also made many funny expressions. He said, "The usually cool and serious Chan Ho Sun would have so much fun with us, I might as well happily let go." Finally everyone thought that the funniest expression belonged to Lau Wai Keung. He even said that he usually worked on commercial still shoots more, so making poses absolutely was not hard for him. * (2012/09/01) Wilson Chin Kwok Wai, Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu, Shiga Lin Si Nga, Mia Chen Jing Yi, Avis Chan Wai Sing, Angelina Zhang (Cheung Woon Nga), Calinda Chan Yuen Wai and others two nights ago attended the film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) celebration. Speaking of LAN KWAI FONG 3, Lin Si Nga hoped to have a chance to perform, but she said that this time getting wet with Kwan Chor Yiu and kissing already reached her bottom line. Going further next time would be very hard. Mia revealed that earlier her boyfriend went to see the movie in support, but halfway through he left in a jealous rage. She said, "Perhaps because the climate was too hot and humid, I would send him a punching bag for release. (Will you skinny dip with your boyfriend to celebrate the box office success?) Right now it's still a little off, but it would be inconvenient with my boyfriend. I am better off with my own children." Avis also said that his girlfriend Chrissie Chau Sau Na saw the movie, but her review broke his heart. He said, "She said that my acting still won't catch up to hers in ten years, when I heard that I wanted to cry." Chan Yuen Wai who was "felt up" during a city promotion earlier admitted that she was upset afterward, but the company has already followed up on the matter. As for rumored boyfriend Chin Kwok Wai blowing up on the spot that day, she only said that Wilson as the director did not want the actors to be molested. Getting upset was very normal. * (2012/09/01) Currently busy with a film production, Angelababy took a day off and two days ago flew from Shanghai to the Venice Film Festival for the 3D action epic TAI CHI's global premiere and a 24 hour promotion. This was Baby's first film that landed in an international class A film festival. Before departing she excitedly said, "This stay would be too short, I hope to not rest for even a minute and properly experience the Venice Film Festival atmosphere." Baby would attend the TAI CHI official press conference and premiere with director Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Eddie Peng Yu-Yen, Tony Leung Ka Fai and others. Baby cherished participating in a film festival for the first time as an actor, but because of her schedule she would only be able to stay for one day. Thus she missed out on the chance to walk the Venice opening ceremony red carpet with Peng Yu-Yen and others. She would not regret that as she would be able to make her film's global premiere. In the film, Baby played an otherworldly master Leung Ka Fai's daughter who grew up and fell in love with Peng Yu-Yen. Yet by chance she also fell for the "weirdo" Yang Luchan. Because Baby's character was strong in martial arts, during the shoot she had many fight scenes that needed her to perform personally. The shoot was over 200 days long, as they shot from the summer heat to the chilly winter. * (2012/08/31) Emperor artist Carlos Chan Ka Lok and singer Mag Lam Yun Tung played a young couple in the film DIVA. Chan Ka Lok said that before the shoot he did not know Lam Yun Tung well. "Before the shoot I knew I had scenes with her. We went outside for work several times, but we didn't communicate even though we were in the same vehicle. I wasn't scared until the actual shoot when the first shot was already a hand holding scene, which made everyone feel very awkward." Ka Lok said that during the shoot the feeling of first love returned to him. He even praised Lam Yun Tung as direct. "She is very direct, no one needs to guess what she is thinking because she would say it. In real life a girlfriend like this would be the best, I am very afraid of guessing what she is thinking." In addition, Ka Lok also praised Best Actress Wai Ying Hung's outstanding acting and thanked her for teaching him how to act. He said, "She wasn't mean at all. She taught me how to take the mark on and off camera. She even taught me how to get into the character. I was very honored to have a chance to work with her." * (2012/08/31) Who says romance in idol movies have to have passionate scenes to stimulate the audience's eyeballs? Japanese model Linah Matsuoka and Chrissie Chau Sau Na's junior colleague Dominic Ho Ho Man in their new film played an innocent romance. This pair could not be bother with the other actors' "action scenes" stealing the spotlight. Dominic said, "We don't mind. Everyone's route is different. Ours is a pure love. If a movie only has action scene, too much of it would be tiring. So you have to watch something with drama." Linah agreed, "I feel bed scene isn't necessary. The love story between the DJ and the policeman is very special, and I like it very much too." Although they did not have any bed scene, kiss scene of course could not be avoided. Yet they were never serious, during the shoot comedy ensued. Dominic said, "She laughed while she kissed, but I didn't what she was laughing at. We ended up having to shoot it several times. Although I didn't feel much, she is a pretty good kisser." Linah seemed to be savoring the moment. she said, "This scene was pretty romantic, I am very satisfied with the result." They look very well matched. During the interview they could not stop playing. Although Dominic is already with someone, he still praised Linah as a nice girl and was not afraid of any rumor. He said, "I like happy girls, and she is always so happy. People say that Japan are many pretty girls. I say some have come to Hong Kong. She is just one of them." Even so, he did not forget to ease his girlfriend's mind. "However the electricity is just limited to in the movie. Before the kiss scene I told my girlfriend so I wasn't afraid of her misunderstanding." * (2012/08/31) Chapman To Man Jat, DaDa Chen Jing, Krystal Tin Yui Nei, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Simon Lui Yu Yeung and director Pang Ho Cheung two nights ago attended the film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s second celebration banquet to celebrate its three week box office run toward HK$25 million and a belated birthday celebration for Sister Yam Yam. Sister Yam Yam said that her birthday wish was for the box office to reach 60 million like the earlier Taiwan hit film YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE. At the same time, To Man Jat announced that he, Pang Ho Cheung and the boss will treat the team to a vacation in Tokyo. To Man Jat said that the trip will have 70 people and will cost around 1 million; since the film made a profit, the boss of course had to thank the team. This time he, the director and the boss paid in proportion to their wealth. Did he ask his wife Tin Yui Nei before hand? He said that of course, his wife definitely would agree for this. Shaw Yam Yam's friend Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai)'s current wife after his stroke reportedly taught their son to ask their father for money and that Lau Ka Fai was a big spender. Shaw Yam Yam said that lately she has been very busy and has not have the time to visit Lau Ka Fai. She supported Lau Ka Fai as someone who was very thrifty. She knew that his son has always remained in Hong Kong to keep Lau Ka Fai company. Sister Yam Yam also said that when she would have time she would ask him about it. * (2012/08/31) The Johnnie To Kei Fung directed THE BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) two nights ago continued to shoot in Mongkok. The team constructed a 3 story tall scaffold for the panoramic shoot then divided into two for the close up shoot. As soon as Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man appeared, fans began to scream. Wa Jai and Sammi put on heavy clothes in the heat and traversed on the streets, but they were very professional and did not complain. Two nights ago Chun Wong was also on hand. Soon after the shoot, he was already completely soaked from the heat. Due to too many onlookers, the scene gradually became hard to control as To Sir began to get frustrated. The crew kept asking people not to use flash photography but to no avail. To Sir threw a tantrum at the crew. Wa Jai and Sammi after the shoot immediately ran off to their vehicles for temporary shelter. The shoot finally was completed late at night. * (2012/08/30) The Pang Ho Cheung directed, Chapman To Man Jat, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and Susan Shaw Yam Yam starred Hong Kong category III film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) after 20 days in release. As of two days ago the box office was around HK$24.2 million. Always stressing that Hong Kong film should be supported, Pang Ho Cheung decided to follow up with the original team and Shawn Yue Man Lok with the category III foul language erotic comedy I WANT MORE AGAIN (GUOON YUN NGOR YAU YIU). The film will have a series of sex scenes, one of which will involve Lok Jai, Cheng Chung Kei and the female lead in a three way. The Pang Ho Cheung directed LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) was released in March and made 28.8 million. His other current release, the Hong Kong category III film VULGARIA, also made a killing with a small budget. it will have a chance at 30 million. Pang Ho Cheung was interested in making a category III foul language erotic comedy I WANT MORE AGAIN (GUOON YUN NGOR YAU YIU) next year. He was inspired to make this film becaue it was the movie in VULGARIA, in which To Man Jat asked Shaw Yam Yam to come back for I WANT MORE AGAIN. The cinemas even arranged for a special engagement of her 1976 film I WANT MORE (GUOON YUN NGOR YIU). He felt that this film remake should have a market. In 1976 Peter Yang Kwan directed and starred with Shaw Yam Yam on the film I WANT MORE. At the time it brought a erotic film fever. In 1998 Wong Jing again remade it as SEX AND ZEN 3 (YUK PO TUEN III GUOON YUN NGOR YIU) with Aman Cheung Man as the director and Jane Chung Chun and Karen Yeung Ka Ling its stars, but it did not stand out at the box office. For the 2013 version I WANT MORE AGAIN, Pang Ho Cheung will package together an all new story and convinced Yue Man Lok to be its lead. VULGARIA's original cast will have parts in I. Pang Ho Cheung said, "I am considering a serious category III foul language erotic film so the audience would have more fun watching it. I am thinking about recruiting the female lead in the Mainland and find a pretty new comer who is finally to strip. I want to use my buddy Yue Man Lok in the lead. Only by telling Jimmy to make a category III erotic film would the audience feel fresh. If (Miriam Yeung) Chin Wa doesn't mind guest star it would be even better. Sister Yam Yam will play the female lead's mother. At her age, I don't dare to ask her to strip!" In October Pang Ho Cheung will have to make a new Huayi Brothers film so the soonest he will be able to make I WANT MORE AGAIN will be next year. he said, "Right now I have two ideas. If I am too busy I will become the producer and To Man Jat will directed. I want to try to make this Hong Kong film, like asking Lok Jai, Cheung Chung Kei and the female lead to be in a three way. It should be pretty entertaining. If this film will do well, I will continue to make I STILL WANT MORE (GUOON YUN NGOR CHUNG YIU). If it will continue to do well then I will make ALL YOU CAN WANT (GUOON YUN FONG DAI). However I want to wait until VULGARIA passes 30 million before making it. The audience can save their ticket stabs for gifts when I WANT MORE AGAIN is released." Yue Man Lok has never made a category III erotic film. He said, "The movie has to have Sister Yam Yam for me to agree, because how can it work without her! I am very confident in Pang Ho Cheung. If he will really directs, I will perform. I want to support Hong Kong film I hope the audience and the film company boss are just like me and support Hong Kong film more. Earlier LOVE IN THE BUFF succeeded, then VULGARIA worked too. They proved that the audience truly wants to see movies that are closer to Hong Kong taste. With the success of both movies, bosses definitely make money. So authentic Hong Kong film productions still have a market." Will Lok Jai be able to accept the nudity? He laughed and said, "This type of movie has to have a bottom line, the lower body really can't be shown but the rear can. I feel my butt isn't pretty enough, but if the director will want me to I will be willing to show it. I trust Pang Ho Cheung, his erotic film I feel will be different from others. He will have something new to show you." * (2012/08/30) Daniel Chan Hiu Tung in the film WE NOT NAUGHTY (HAI JI BUT WAI) played a loving teacher CK. In one scene he streaked to fulfill a promise he made to the students. During the shoot, Chan Hiu Tung only wore a pair of underwear. At first the director joked, "The special effect costs a lot of money, it's not like you don't have a butt. Since you have one, just shoot it!" Chan Hiu Tung struggled for a long time before hand. Luckily his fans saved him and asked the director to try to show from the back. The long range shot felt like he was naked and after the censorship blocks it would be nude. Chan Hiu Tung said that the location was remote and very windy. After several hours he was covered in goose bumps; however he was confident that he was very strong and would not caught a cold. * (2012/08/30) Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Andy Lau Tak Wa two nights ago worked on the Johnnie To Kei Fung film THE BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) on the streets of Mongkok. Their appearance almost turned Mongkok upside down as several hundred onlookers crowded the nearby streets. Both stars were able to focus on their production, indeed they were rather professional. Playing blind in the film, Wa Jai also looked convincing when he walked with his cane. Two days ago around dusk, To Kei Fung appeared on the busy streets of Mongkok and scouted the location around a Taiwanese style snack shop with the crew. Around 7PM, Sammi arrived in a gray suit with the crew. To Sir and Soi Cheang Po Shui explained the shoot content to her. Because the location was already filled with people, every step Sammi took needed the crew to open the road for her first. Although it was hot and many were present, Sammi was in a decent mood. After a few minutes, Sammi returned to her vehicle to rest. Earlier she worked on another scene. She had to carry take outs while talking on her mobile phones and walking. She appeared to be tripping over herself. Lau Tak Wa appeared after 8PM in a suit. When Wa Jai arrived, the crowd roared and surrounded him. When Wa Jai walked from his vehicle to the rest tent, he had to stop twice over the one block distance. The scene was chaotic. Wa Jai could only personally maintain order as he often greeted the media. Wa Jai in the film played blind, earlier he went to a center for the blind to understand the daily life of the vision impaired. Two nights ago he walked with a cane and looked convincing. Due to too many onlookers, the director decided to take a dinner break first. The crew had to use ropes so Wa Jai could leave. Sammi stood in the center of the road but could not be picked up. Later she had to move to a back alley and wait. Many pedestrians and vehicles passed by. Sammi appeared somewhat uncomfortable. Her assistant handed her tissue for her perspiration. During the period, fans brought her candy. How did Sammi feel about shoot in the busy city? She said that she was elated. Two days ago was Sammi's lunar birthday. She posted online, "Today is my birthday. I have a lot to do. Although I am not celebrating I like the beautiful reminder that this day brings. Have you physically love friends around you? When you true love someone, sometimes you would truly love until it hurts. Saying love is very easy, this world actually needs more acts of love. When love hurts, you still have to keep going; when you shed tears from the pain, you still have to persist." Although two nights ago Sammi had to work all night, before work she read the Bible. She also posted online, "Before going out to work, I read the Bible and the words of the Lord. This is Mi's secret gas station! Although today has a tough over night shoot, I am excited because everyday I would have some interesting new discoveries at work, in life and in the world. As I truly know myself more, I learn the importance of humility. How high is the sky, how deep is the sea. How much does humanity matter? How much do I matter? Thank you Lord for you love, because of that my soul is finally complete." * (2012/08/30) The film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2)'s actors Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu, shiga Lin Si Nga, "Ma Model" Mia, Avis Chan Wai Sing and others two nights ago reprised the "walk backward" scene in Mongkok but did not arrange for any security, only a few workers formed human chain to protect the artists. Of course in the end it was not too useful as the crowd flocked. In order to take photos or to catch a glimpse of the artists they pushed and shoved, blond young people began to exchange foul language. The scene was extremely chaotic and completely neglected the people and the media's safety. As for walking in the crowd, Mia actually continued to push up three inches of "career line" on her chest and posed for photographers. She said that because she was in the midst of career she could not put away her chest. When the box office reached 6 million she would have to celebrate. She also said that she sensed the passion of the people. Speaking of the foul language, Mia said that she truly was somewhat afraid as she has never seen such chaos. She would suggest security next time. Shiga also said that each girl had male protection. They each had 42 inch chests and studied kung fu. Was she worried about a stampede? Shiga helplessly said, "I never thought about it. This time was completely unexpected. I am very happy to be able to in contact with viewers in such close distance. I haven't been to Mongkok for awhile. I really don't know how it is now." Mia also said that next time they might promote indoors. The film company could also plan a little better. Director Wilson Chin Kwok wai said that he knew nothing before hand. He thought public relations would provide security. Were they trying to save money? He had no idea. Actually he too would have brought out the foul language. This time must be looked at in detail. * (2012/08/30) South China Film Industry Workers Union founding member, honorary vice chair, famous producer and director Chan Man earlier passed away at the age of 91. The viewing will take place on September 10 and the funeral the next day. Chan Man was full of passion and dreams for the Hong Kong film industry in his life, from Kwong Ngai to Sun Lian to Sil-Metropole, he participated in, directed or produced over 100 films and worked with the likes of Patrick Tse Yin, Chow Chung, Ka Ling, Nam Hung on numerous occasions. Chan Man over the years has built quite a foundation for the film industry and tirelessly helped the younger generations. His work as a director included SHE MARRIED AN OVERSEAS CHINESE (TONG SHAN AH SOH), BROTHERS (SAU JOOK CHING SUM), DRAGNET (999 HOI TAN MING ON), THE PRODIGY WHO CAUGHT THE THIEF (SUN TUNG JOOK CHAK GEI), THE CONSPIRATORS (SUN TAU CHING CHAK), THE DREADNAUGHT (TEET DAM), COLOURFUL PARTNERS (CHUT CHOR LAN HING LAN DAI) and DUEL OF DEATH (SAI BUT LEUNG LAP). * (2012/08/30) Joey Yung Cho Yi, Janice Man Wing Shan, Marie Zhuge, Hilary Tsui Ho Ying and Linah Matsuoka attended a fashion label event. Both linked to Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, Janice Man and Joey became the focus as they shared the stage. Was sharing the stage awkward for Joey and JM? Joey said that she did not know her boyfriend Lau Ho Lung was linked to JM. Would she ask her boyfriend about his past romance? Joey said, "I am not a reporter, JM and I have chatted." Speaking of the new film being less than ideal at the box office, Joey said that many friends said that they liked the DIVA story. The word of mouth was decent. She understood that this was not a mainstream film so the company wanted her to promote more. However later she will have to work a record, she will have to make room on her schedule to promote. Speaking of her film being unable to break the 4 million mark at the box office, Joey said, "It may not be my responsibility. (Would you be disappointed?) I already expected the result, I wouldn't be too disappointed. Actually it wasn't too bad. The boss said that it was acceptable. Was she afraid of being called "box office poison"? Joey said that she did not primarily make movies. She joked that if someone wanted her to warn off evil she would be OK. Yesterday was Nicholas Tse Ting Fung's birthday. Joey said that she would send her well wishes privately or perhaps later would study acting with him. Would JM gossip about Joey and Si Hing's romance? She said that she would have no reason to ask about that as soon as they saw each other. It would be very strange. She also said that she did not have much to gossip about and when she and Joey chatted they would not talk about romance. Did Joey have a good attitude? JM siad, "Why not? Our rumor was so fake that no one would believe it. I am happy for them." JM earlier returned from working on a film in Kunming. This time she worked with Mainland actors. Bugs were a local delicacy and everyone knew she was afraid. Thus they often scared her. She said that she was already half a vegetarian. For a movie she would make the sacrifice for art. MING PAO DAILY, SEPTEMBER 2 2012, FILM WORDS TAIWAN FILMS ARE ALSO LIVELY As schools open in September, the film market is quieter after the summer peak. However more new films are actually released, at least adding different choices and not just the few topical hits. Famous American director Oliver Stone's new film SAVAGES and the Taiwan Film GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND show promises. These two films are drastically different in style, wonderfully they also share some commonalities. overall both are romances between two men and a woman. GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND: Colorful Details Taiwan's Yang Ya-Che wrote and directed GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND, which even more directly depicts the relationship between two male and one female buddies. Kwai Lun-Mei, Joseph Chang (Cheung Hau Chuen) and mixed heritage star Rhydian Vaughan starred in this love triangle, from high school classmates to 20 years later they have a hard time with both being together and apart, one of the reasons is "gay" so the relationship is even complicated. Actually Taiwan film has been made about homosexuality long ago. What is special about GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND is not sex, but it touches on for over 20 years Taiwan's political changes -- the 80s Kuomintang dictatorship with high school instructors with strict political inspection; then the leads while at the university trigger a passionate student movement as they gather en masse at the square to fight for democracy; then in the new democratic era political corruptions flood in, as the former revolutionary students consort with the reigning party. The film satirizes every period, these political experience of Taiwan is not something that Hong Kong and the Mainland can rival. (three out of five stars) This film is about love, sex and politics. Selling more sentimentality, it is rather rare in a Chinese mainstream film that the details are colorful. All the leads give outstanding performances. This week's other Taiwan film BLACK AND WHITE EPISODE I: THE DAWN OF ASSAULT is the prequel to the television series of the same name. Director Tsai Yueh-Hsun turns it into a Chinese film industry super production, it has performed decently in both Taiwan and the Mainland. Though overlooked in Hong Kong it is worthy of attention, as this international super action film scale and quality far surpasses similar productions of Hong Kong in recent years. BLACK AND WHITE EPISODE ONE THE DAWN OF ASSAULT: No Down Time At all BLACK is more than two hours long but has no down time at all. Very intriguing and explosive, the film modernly packaged with high technology battles, from diamond trafficking to a major anti matter weapon crisis. The story is partially smart and partially stupid. Less than complete it has obviously many positive points. The sea, land and air action is fierce, the set up changes with variety. The climatic passenger plane mid air thriller alone shows that Taiwan commercial films are more and more stylish. GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND is apt at drama while BLACK AND WHITE is apt in action. Like Pang, producer To Wai-cheung, our protagonist, must go north to find his funding, even if it means getting involved with a Guangxi triad head named Tyrannosaurus and experiencing "the ultimate sex". Another investment precondition: convincing 197s star Susan Shaw to act in a classic porno remake named DARLING, I WANT IT TOO. Despite all the hardships, To is determined to make his film. With the uproarious, taboo-breaking Vulgaria, Pang gleefully exorcises all the restraints he has been bottling up with his bona fide, censorship-free Hong Kong movie.
