MISCELLANEOUS * (2012/08/15) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi and Nicholas Tse Ting Fung promoted films separately in Beijing. Pak Chi was asked whether she would bring her sons to watch Ting Fung's movie. She was reluctant to answer and only said that she needed "their father" and the children to make the decision. As for questions that compared her box office with Ting Fung's, she remained cold. The Mainland media described Pak Chi as unwilling to be linked to Ting Fung, now Ting Fung was only "the children's Papa". Pak Chi in THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) fell in love at first sight with Xiao Shenyang, argued, became jealous and discovered that she fell for him. The process was simple yet sweet. Pak Chi admitted that as she grew older she would have more emotions and accumulated experience for the character. She asked to first move herself before she would be able to move the audience. * (2012/08/15) The Tsui Hark directed new film DETECTIVE DEE PREQUEL (DIK YUN KIT CHIN JUEN) began production in Hengdian. The Queen Angelababy and Young Detective Dee Mark Chao (Chiu Yau TIng) earlier shot a night scene, rowing a boat back to shore and a wired flight to the roof scene. They also would have a mysterious story. Chiu Yau Ting's costume was exactly the same as Andy Lau Tak Wa's Detective Dee. Baby wore a low cut dress. Carina Lau Ka Ling will continue to play Wu Zetian. * (2012/08/15) COLD WAR (HONG JIN) yesterday held a large scale launch press conference in Beijing. Directors Longman Leung Lok Man, Sunny Luk Kim Ching led stars Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Tony Leung Ka Fai, Andy Lau Tak Wa, Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting), Eddie Peng Yu-yen to the appearance. The film unveiled the five hunks' character posters for the first time and announced the COLD WAR National Day slot release. All five leads were dressed in dark colors. Peng Yu-yen joked, "We are all men in black." Kwok Fu Sing and Leung Ka Fai extended their rivalry from the film to the event as they often traded verbal jabs. Special guest star Wa Jai did not forget to play dumb. In the ice breaking segment he stared at all the shattered ice on the ground until the host woke him. In the film, Kwok Fu Sing and Leung Ka Fai played deputy police commissioners. They had many explosive scenes. At the event they still traded verbal jabs. When asked who was responsible for the rescue operation, both Best Actors fought to say they were in charge. Leung Ka Fai even joked, "In the movie we debated a lot. I am an eagle style character, I must be decisive. I can't duck and dodge like him, with a tiger head and a snake tail." Kwok Fu Sing immediately replied, "Their operation style is more impulsive. With a look of frustration, they get violent as soon as they arrive." During the group interview, Kwok Fu Sing was asked, "How do you feel about Wa Jai having a child?" Leung Ka Fai took advantage of the moment and said, "He respects the profession very much whether he is making the movie or otherwise. Even when having a child he still respects the profession." Wa Jai guest starred as a the Security Bureau chief, which undoubtedly was a big bright spot. Speaking of the performance, he said, "Over a year ago, when the directors approached me I really wanted to play one of the two deputy commissioners. However later something happened at home and I told them I had to resign. However as long as the movie was shooting in Hong Kong I would still guest star." As for COLD WAR's story and line up, Wa Jai said that he was once tempted to invest. Wa Jai made fun of the other two Best Actors over their first collaboration. "One is 36, one is 38, I am too old so I can only play the Security Bureau chief." At the event's ice breaking segment, he again played dumb. On the stage he stared at a piece of ice on the ground and got lost. When he was reminded of the group photo opportunity, Wa Jai woke up. Even the host joked, "Indeed he is just only a guest star in the film, he is often like he isn't around." * (2012/08/15) The Pang Ho Cheung directed film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) has been both a commercial and critical hit. The box office so far has reached 7 million. Two nights ago the director and actors Chapman To Man Jat, DaDa Chen Jing attended a celebration in North Point. The film's cast and crew, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Ah Jat's wife Krystal Tin Yui Nei, Mani Fok Man Hei, Paco Wong all attended. Ah Jat even brought two "donkeys". The movie was very risky for the actors and the investors because its lack of the Mainland market. Yet if it would truly make over 10 million it would be able to break even. Ah Jat earlier revealed that he thought about joining the monastery, but later a master reminded him that making a comedy was a merit too so he changed his mind. He pointed out that at the time he only thought that way because work was not going his way. If he did, what would his wife do? He said, "Since she married me she expected death!" He pointed out that now he would not think like that, as he did not have to join a monastery to help others. Ah Jat pointed out that the investors were in the Macau casino business, he wished that the team would received big chips to try their luck across the harbor. Ah Tin's series premiered two nights ago. Ah Tin joked that of course she had to attend the celebration. Because she did not receive much compensation during the shoot, she would pig out to make up for it. DaDa admitted that she was so happy about the good box office performance that she lost sleep. How would she reward herself? DaDa planned to visit Japan. DaDa revealed that after the film release she received more film offers, she had two in negotiation. She hoped to be able to continue to develop in film. She did not mind playing a beggar. Ultimately acting could endure longer, now that "pseudo model" had much more competition. She hoped to be able to have a firm footing in the film industry. Would she agree to perform in the nude if the film required it? DaDa pointed out that her mother would not allow it. DaDa said that she never deliberately thought about putting away her chest, because her earlier photo books were a part of his life and could not be erased. * (2012/08/15) Kwai Lun-Mei, Joseph Chang Hau Chuen, Rhydian Vaughn (Fung Siu Ngok) and director Yang Ya-Che two nights ago came to promote their film GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND in Hong Kong. The three leads played games with fans and talked about the production. Kwai Lun-Mei said that her character in the film was quite a tomboy. This time she even needed to shave her head. In one scene, she even had to go to the men's locker room. She joked that at the time she even saw many beautiful men. What would Kwai Lun-Mei do if she fell for a boyfriend who did not like girls? She joked that they could be friends for life, which was also pretty happy. She felt that every person had someone who she loved very much. If he could be by her side it would be a beautiful thing. Kwai Lun-Mei earlier came to Hong Kong many times. This time she hoped to be able to make time to try cart noodle, cold crab, typhoon shelter crab, and cream piggy bread. This film was a love story between three childhood friends. With its similarities to YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE, was director Yang Ya-Che afraid of the comparison? He hoped that it would attract different viewers. APPLE sold youth, but this film wanted to attract adult viewers and talked about adult relationships. This film earlier already received the Media Recommendation Prize at the Taipei Film Festival. * (2012/08/15) DIVA will open on August 16. The film's actors Joey Yung Cho Yi, Chapman To Man Jat, Hu Ge, Mag Lam Yun Tung, Carlos Chan Ka Lok after a series of Mainland promotions yesterday finally arrived at the final stop Guangzhou. Ah Jat gave a review of his manager character and said that manager was a very self confident job. "A Manager is a job that shows the world your own taste, like Man in the film. J caught his eyes because it was a performance of his unique eye." Joey asked Ah Jat if he was praising her indirectly. Joey also said that only when Ah Jat personally produced on the set, she was willing to work. She gave Ah Jat no time to be lazy. Ah Jat joked, "So you are the one, you are so evil! I hate you!" Ah Jat even said that in reality actors often were tempted by money and made movies for salary. They lacked a type of sincerity. Hu Ge graciously claimed to be a Joey fan. "Take a look at the Joey fans in the audience. They are all wearing yellow, so I am wearing yellow too!" Hu Ge's Cantonese was not great but because of this film it rapidly improved. He even thanked Joey for teaching him Cantonese and in turn saving his life. "She taught me to say 'let's go to dinner tonight' in Cantonese. After that as soon as I heard that I knew I would be eating. Otherwise I might have starved to death." * (2012/08/14) The Chapman To Man Jat, DaDa Chen Jing starred new film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) after 3 days in release made HK$4.91 million. Released on the same day, THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH)'s Mainland box office after a week was 130 million RMB and HK$1.8 million locally. It was no match for VULGARIA. Speaking of defeating Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai, VULGARIA director Pang Ho Cheung yesterday said at an audience appreciation event that he would like the original cast to work on GUOON YUN FONG TAI (HUSBAND ALL YOU CAN EAT). Would the female lead be Chen Jing or Susan Shaw Yam Yam? Director Pang said, "They two can become one! (You beat Wai Jai at the box office!) It's not who beat who, the most important is the entire market is good. (Would you publish a novel version?) No! It was a film company request earlier." To Man Jat said that the two films have different styles and even said, "My achievement of a lifetime can't surpass Wai Jai's. They are a Mainland hit, we cater to Hong Kong taste. (Would you make more Hong Kong movies?) I would, someone invested a pile of money for purely locally created films. The budget will be 30 million for 5 movies." * (2012/08/13) Chow Yun Fat earlier with Liu Yifei, Alec Su (So Yau Peng) and Annie Yi (Yi Nung Jing) attended THE ASSASSINS (TUNG CHEUK TOI) press conference. The film cost 130 million yuan RMB and showed the Chow Yun Fat played Cao Cao after sitting in the Bronze Sparrow Terrance and gaining the peak of his power facing the danger of everyone trying to kill him. * (2012/08/13) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi two nights ago appeared at THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) premiere concert in Beijing with Mainland actors Xiao Shenyang, Zhang Xinyu and Victor Huang (Wong Wai Tak). Her father's arrest did not affect her as she continued to sing and dance on the stage. Pak Chi first held hands with Xiao Shenyang and sang, during the performance she often lightly stroked Xiao Shenyang's cheek; Xiao Shenyang held her waist and they looked very intimate. Later she and Wong Wai Tak danced romantically, which made many viewers jealous as they screamed endlessly. * (2012/08/13) The Chapman To Man Jat and DaDa Chen Jing starred film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s box office momentum grew, as of two days ago (August 11) after three days in release its cumulative box office was close to HK$ 5 million ($4,918,522). Director Pang Ho Cheung and the cast continued to attend audience appreciation events all over Hong Kong cinemas. Starting in the afternoon, they were not even spared for the late shows. Every night they went to the movies until 2 to 3 AM. Two nights ago Pang Ho Cheung and Chen Jing after attending the final late show audience appreciation event in Causeway Bay suddenly saw Anthony Wong Yiu Ming in the audience. He praised that the film was great and cracked him up. He also congratulated Pang Ho Cheung's new film on becoming a hit. * (2012/08/13) Ronald Cheng Chung Kei yesterday attended the premiere of the animated film THE PORK OF MUSIC (MCDULL DONG DONG BOON NGOR SUM), to which he provided his voice. All the children who provided their voices also attended and shared the voice work experience with Cheng Chung Kei. Cheng Chung Kei normally would tell stories to his daughter to foster her interest in reading. Cheng Chung Kei has been busy with the film THE FOUR (SEI DAI MING BO) in Hengdian and did not notice the news about Japanese powder milk with questionable ingredients. Luckily his daughter did not have any Japanese powder milk as she has already switched to congee. As for Shawn Yue Man Lok revealing that the Mainland had "milk cow" (female star with good figure) knocking on his door and offering herself, Cheng Chung Kei joked that only poisonous water snake appeared in front of his door. "My wife doesn't have to worry because I am lactose intolerant, as soon as I am in contact I would have the runs. Although I wouldn't be nauseous, I rarely have any." He welcomed his wife to visit him in Hengdian, but life there were so dull that after one visit she was no longer interested. * (2012/08/13) Hope Education Foundation ambassador Angelica Lee Sinjie yesterday attended a charity event to encourage children to donate HK$50 to help others. As for a child of her own, Sinjie laughed and said, "I have decided to share love with others before I have one." She said that later she will head to Thailand to work on INFERNO (TOH CHOOK SUN TIN) with Louis Koo Tin Lok and Lau Ching Wan. She and her husband had no solid plan for parenthood, because they felt that they still had things that they wanted to do. In this film, Sinjie would have any dangerous scenes like wire work, water and fire scenes. If she was pregnant she truly would not be suitable. Perhaps she would wait until she finished the film first. * (2012/08/13) Eric Tsang Chi Wai yesterday attended the McDonald's Volunteer team event. Chi Wai revealed that earlier he represented the Performing Artist Guild and visited Gordon Liu (Lau Ka Fai); seven to eight months ago he suffered a stroke, currently he still could not move half his limbs. Ka Fai earlier contacted the Guild and said that he was recovering. Chi Wai gave an iPad to Ka Fai for him to go online. Once he completely recovered he would return to the silver screen. As for Lau Ka Fai's financial situation, Chi Wai pointed out that for now he was fine. The Guild will continue to follow up. * (2012/08/12) The film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2)'s actors Shiga Lin (Si Nga), Avis Chan Wai Sing, Sammy Sum Chun Hin, Liu Yuqi and director Wilson Chin Kwok Wai and his girlfriend Calinda Chan Yuen Wai two nights ago boarded a large promotional vehicle in Lan Kwai Fong. The actresses sat in a row like in a fish tank! The cast not only gave away posters but also condoms. Chan Yuen Wai was the most excited. Did she feel embarrassed? She said, "No. (It's like a fish tank.) No, it's just a promotion!" Soon, the police arrived to write a summons for obstruction of traffic and warned them to leave within ten minutes. They not only ignored the police but also got off the vehicle to keep giving away condoms. Lin Si Nga only gave away posters all night. Was she embarrassed? She said, "Just dividing up the jobs." When the actresses posed for group photos, everyone put the condoms in their hands into Liu Yuqi's hands. She was surprised and screamed out of embarrassment. * (2012/08/12) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's father Cheung Yan Yung (Moustache Yung) was arrested for criminal intimidation. Two days ago the arraignment took place and he was released on HK$10,000 bail to await trial. Pak Chi yesterday attended the film THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) premiere press conference in Beijing. When asked about her father's arrest, she only smiled in response. Pak Chi's company replied on her behalf, "The spirit of THE LION ROARS 2 is to bravely face things. In real life Pak Chi is very brave. She runs into many family problems, but her family is Heaven granted. Hopefully everyone would understand and give her even more personal space." Mainland reporters asked why she did not bravely answer questions about her father, Pak Chi reminded silent. Pak Chi talked about love at the event. "I have always believed that love would last for a lifetime. When I will be old, this view still won't change. This is why I never work on sequels except for THE LION ROARS 2. I believed that the realest love comes from the heart. I want women to understand clearly what real love is like." * (2012/08/12) The film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) two nights ago held an advanced screening. Shiga Lin (Lin Si Nga), Liu Yuqi and the actors Dominic Ho Ho Man, Sammy Sum Chun Hin and Avis Chan Wai Sing attended. The actors played question and answer games with the audience. When asked where female lead they would like to run into at night spots the most, someone screamed Chrissie Chau Sau Na who was not a part of the film. As for male leads, a viewer jokingly screamed "(Raymond) Lam Fung and (Ron) Ng Cheuk Hei". Earlier linked to Lam Fung in rumors, Liu Yuqi looked upset. Reportedly when Liu Yuqi and Sum Chun Hin had dinner and talked about Lam Fung, she could not help but break down in tears. A magazine even had the headline "Lam Fung and I have sex but no love". Two nights ago they responded. Sum Chun Hin supported Liu Yuqi and said that she did not cry. That day they were chatting and the atmosphere was great. Did Liu Yuqi cry to him about Lam Fung? He said that he was not at liberty to talk about other people's business, but he felt that Liu Yuqi was a strong and mature person. He would like everyone to give her some space. Liu Yuqi also said that she would not cry so easily. Was her affair with Lam Fung resolved? She said that one girl sometimes would think too much, she was fine and hoped that no one would keep writing. "Please don't bother me. I can withstand it and face it myself, and I don't want to be hurt again. (Did Lam Fung hurt you too deeply?) I don't want to say." Lin Si Nga said that when she saw her intimate scene with Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu and her own shower scene, she was a little embarrassed and covered her eyes with her hand. * (2012/08/12) Chapman To Man Jat, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, DaDa Chen Jing, and director Pang Ho Cheung two nights ago went to a Causeway Bay cinema for their film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s audience appreciation. When everyone appeared at the cinema, the audience was rather excited. Ah Jat, Pang Ho Cheung and Cheng Chung Kei even used foul language and told dirty jokes. Cheng Chung Kei in the film had to grab Susan Shaw Yam Yam's chest. To Man Jat two nights ago revealed that Ronald asked for that scene to be added, which cracked up the audience. Chen Jing did not chime in and only fanned herself from the side. VULGARIA's cumulative box office has already reached 3 million and won the Audience Award Best Asian Feature Silver Prize at the 16th Montreal Fantasia Film Festival as well. DaDa admitted that she was very happy about the film's good box office. Speaking of the abundance of foul language in the film, she said that she did not need to say any. She saw how enthusiastic the audience was and she was very happy. Director Pang Ho Cheung was pleased with the film's good performance. He even promised to take the cast on a holiday, but the actors suggested going to gamble in Macau instead. To Man Jat suggested, "If the box office passes 20 million, ask the boss to take 1 to 2 million for a lucky drawing. The boss works in the Macau gambling business and has different concepts about money. Maybe the lucky drawing will be very terrifying!" To Man Jat complained whenever his oral sex scene with DaDa got intense, director Pang Ho Cheung would yell cut. Cheng Chung Kei joked, "I had it pretty good too, I got to touch Shaw Yam Yam's chest." DaDa joked that after making the film her foul language was much more fluent. "In the film I originally didn't use foul language, but I couldn't help it. Now I am thinking more in foul language in my mind." Cheng Chung Kei joked that he never used foul language. "Now I have a daughter at home, so I use foul language less. I haven't told the Old Lady (Sammie Yu Sze Man) that I touched Shaw Yam Yam's chest. She probably won't be jealous, Sister Yam Yam is of the master class." Pang Ho Cheung said, "The audience recognition is the most important. A female fan couldn't attend because she had to take care of her son. Thus she wishes that school will start soon. I too want the new film to be able to run until September." * (2012/08/11) Chapman To Man Jat sold his personal experience of bestiality and teamed up with director Pang Ho Cheung to make the film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). Due to the massive amount of foul language and sexual subject, the film received a category III rating and limited the audience group; however, aside from the great word of mouth from screenings, the film also opened high as it defeated THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, Tony Leung Chiu Wai's THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH), and the 3D animation MADAGASCAR 3: EUROPE'S MOST WANTED to become the single day box office champion. To Man Jat was full of confidence in VULGARIA, thus before its official release it already had 58 screenings to test the word of mouth and successfully pumped up the August 9 opening to HK$1,105,265; with the screening box office on the opening day the film already accumulated 1.9 million and landed on top of the single day box office chart. It defeated MADAGASCAR 3's single day box office of HK$951,583, THE BOURNE LEGACY's HK$718,754 and BRAVE's HK$617,506. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES made 593,389 and was fifth on the single day box office chart. Best Actress Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun starred THE SILENT WAR's single day take was only 235,209, less than STEP UP REVOLUTION's 259,204. To Man Jat yesterday flaunted the 1.9 million box office online. He said, "The film today becomes the Hong Kong opening box office champion. I am very gratified." He said that he would have to treat Ronald Cheng Chung Kei to dinner and drag him to the cinema for audience appreciation. * (2012/08/11) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi's father Cheung Yan Yung (Moustache Yung) was involved in two felony cases and earlier was arrested. Pak Chi was promoting her film THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) in Beijing, but she kept her work and personal lives separate as her family did not affect her work. Reporters asked New Asia Entertainment Group boss about the case, he said that he was not at liberty to ask Pak Chi to respond to this matter. Pak Chi yesterday was interviewed with THE LION ROARS 2 stars Victor Huang (Wong Wai Tak) and Xiao Shenyang. Pak Chi said that after 10 years the feeling did not feel the same. 10 years were very important to a woman. She too worried that she would become old on the screen. Pak Chi insisted on making this film because the story was about the woman's persistence over love. Love to her was very important, without love her heart would seem to have stopped. When Pak Chi learned about she would work with Xiao Shenyang, she only knew that he was very famous and thought that he was handsome like Louis Koo Tin Lok. She did not know who he looked like until costume fitting. At first they had communication issues because she did not understand Xiao Shenyang's Northeast dialect too well. Finally they used body language and looks instead. * (2012/08/11) The Joey Yung Cho Yi, Chapman To Man Jat and Carlos Chan Ka Lok starred DIVA two nights ago held a premiere in Macau UA Galaxy Cinemas. Joey's boyfriend Si Hing (Wilfred Lau Ho Lung) will celebrate his birthday next week, Joey stated that due to work she might not be able to spend it with him. Speaking of whether she would consider cooking a candle light dinner to compensate, she awkwardly said, "I would go and learn!" The cast three nights ago just attended the premiere in Hong Kong. Two nights ago they went to Macau for the premiere there. Many Joey fans appeared as well. After watching her performance the night before at the Hong Kong premiere, Joey said with a smile, "When I saw my complex emotional performance in the film, I felt like I was giving birth!" She revealed that her stomach hurt nonstop on the night of the Hong Kong premiere. Her dress had tapes that tug on her skin rather painfully. She wanted to rip it off. She also said, "The film actually put in my own concert footage, so I had a lot of memories." She revealed that her mother and brother also attended the Hong Kong premiere. Her mother praised that her performance has improved. Her brother also was able to understand her days at work. Reporters asked whether her mother had any comment about Si Hing in the film, she said, "Not much to comment on!" As for Si Hing's absence at the Hong Kong premiere, did she have any regret? Joey responded, "Si Hing that day had to work on a series, I don't feel any regret!" Would she watch the movie again with her boyfriend? She said, "Let me have the time first!" Speaking of Si Hing's birthday on the 13th, Joey said that she will be promoting in Foshan and Dongguan. Then she will have to go to Guangzhou. She had no way to rush back to Hong Kong to celebrate with her boyfriend. She also said, "Si Hing had to work on the series on his birthday too!" Did she regret that she had no way of seeing her boyfriend on his birthday? Joey stressed that she would not. She has not prepared a gift yet. She said, "If we will be free then we will have dinner together!" As for a candle light dinner, she replied, "Great. (Will you cook it?) Let me learn!" To Man Jat said that in the film he played a villain for the first time. He said, "After the premiere, Mani asked me if I was reflecting her. Actually I told her that it wasn't just pretend bad, all Hong Kong knows she is the bad guy!" He joked that Mani has threatened him not to say that she was a bad person, otherwise she would expose his "bad stuff". However Ah Jat said, "I said her bad stuff could take ten years to expose!" Speaking of Si Hing's absence from the Hong Kong premiere, Ah Jat clarified that all the actors were invited. However he due to work was absent. He also asked Si Hing to buy a ticket and support himself. He said, "Even (Felix) Chong Man Keung said Si Hing would be my successor!" Emperor new comer Chan Ka Lok said that at the Hong Kong premiere he watched his performance for the first time. He joked that his eyes were swollen from crying. He revealed that on the night of the premiere, Mag Lam Yun Tung sat next to him. Did Lam's boyfriend Sheldon Lo (Law Hau Yung) appear? Chan Ka Lok did not directly respond and only said that she and Lam Yun Tung were focused on watching the movie. * (2012/08/11) Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) five year ago wrote, directed and starred in the film THE SECRET (BUT NUNG SHUET DIK BEI MUK). Two days ago he held the first press conference for his second film THE ROOF (TIN TOI). Chairman Chou introduced the film's golden crew and even invited big time actor Wang Xueqi to perform. Although it was their first collaboration, Wang Xueqi said that Chairman Chou was a director who really cared about his actors. During the shoot he was very focused as he was living in the film every single moment. He admired Chairman Chou's talent very much. Wang Xueqi also sang a few lines of LISTEN TO WHAT MAMA SAYS and the crowd said, "It was truly rare". In addition, Chairman Chou who kept promoting the result of his work out earlier was suspected of "editing" his abdominal muscles in his promotional photo. Chow Kit Lun responded that now no matter where he was, everyone would ask him to show off his figure. He graciously invited reporters to a backstage verification after the press conference to see whether his was artificial. * (2012/08/10) Pinky Cheung Man Chi recently worked on the gospel film IN THE NAME OF LOVE (YUN OI JI MING) and played a couple with Lam Man Lung. The film was based on a real story. Man Lung who played a murderer received Pinky's forgiveness and got through the tough times together. When asked whether she would be just as magnanimous with her other half in real life, she said, "I think I would be a pretty magnanimous wife, the bottom line is men can't hit women." Pinky was invited to work on her first gospel film and was even invited to attend the premiere in Australia next month. She was very excited, but she might have a "schedule conflict" with the Kaohsiung, Taiwan Chinese barbecue shop opening. She said, "I think I will choose to go to Australia, even if I have to pay myself." * (2012/08/10) Chrissie Chau Sau Na's boyfriend Avis Chan Wai Sing and Model Ma Mia Chen Jing Yi had many bed scenes in their new film LAN KWAI FONG 3 (HEI OI YEH PO 2). All the winking back and forth they were linked together in gossip. Avis was not afraid of Mia's jealousy when he praised his girlfriend CHau Sau Na. He said, "She has high emotional quotient, which I trained. I admired her 'Chau Sau Na' spirit the most. She not only worked hard, but also because she didn't want to worry anyone around her she would stay tough and never complain." He also said that their personalities were close so they rarely argued. Although Avis on the LAN 2 set was lucky, he admitted that he did not know about the set operation details. A car window breaking scene ended up "bloody". He said, "Originally the hand had to be made up like it was bleeding, but it was really injured. However acting was truly a lot of fun." Mia understood that some did not appreciate her taking the sexy route as a mother, but off camera she was a kind mother and revealed that she had a headache over her children's summer lives. "I am busy with film promotion, I can only help them enroll in music and taekwondo courses to pass time. Maybe later I will go to Japan with them." Mia said that she was willing to make money by baring flesh, her biggest motivation was to improve the children's lives. Did she regret that she became a mother too soon? She said, "Absolutely not! My friends said since I had them early I could ditch them early. If all goes as planned I never thought about having another." Mia mentioned her father's passing from cancer last year, which stressed her mentally and made her once thought about quitting show business. "Ultimately my family has never given me any pressure, instead they have been very supportive." * (2012/08/10) Mag Lam Yun Tung in the Emperor Motion Picture DIVA played a couple with Carlos Chan Ka Lok. Although it was their first collaboration, they were full of chemistry. Their numerous intimate scenes were rather realistic. Mag said, "Actually before the shoot we were very embarrassed. Ka Lok and I before places asked each other 'do you mind'. We knew that everyone really wanted to make this movie good so we very quickly got into character. We trusted each other very much. I was very surprised that we felt like we have been dating for ten years." Chan Ka Lok and Mag although had decent chemistry as a couple but they also had many bad takes. He said, "In one scene I chased Mag to the street and kissed her. Because the director wanted one straight take, we had over 20 bad takes. Our mouths were tired and dried, but for some reason Mag and I had a lot in common. Before the shoot we didn't know each other at all. We had no exchange at the first press conference. Yet another one shoot we were already holding hands, hugging and kissing. As soon as we took our marks we immediately had feeling." Since they had such a chemical reaction from their first collaboration, would Ka Lok pursue Mag? Ka Lok joked, "Actually off camera I admire her daring attitude for music. I won't eliminate any chance to develop with her!" Already having a rumored boyfriend Sheldon Lo (Law Hau Yung), Mag said, "Haha! Then I won't eliminate any chance of developing with Chan Ka Lok. (In the film your boyfriend's position was lower than yours, would you be able to accept that in real life?) Of course, when you truly love someone, no one can replace him. Even if his position is lower than mine, you can see his backbone and will!" * (2012/08/10) Diva Joey Yung Cho Yi earlier with producer Chapman To Man Jat talked about their new film DIVA. In the film Joey and Hu Ge had a kiss scene. Hu Ge once praised Joey's lips as soft. Joey said, "Actually that day was very cold, so cold that I was all stiff." Ah Jat was asked why he did not play Hu Ge's character? Ah Jat said, "I can't play it, not everyone can have a greasy diet." Joey struck back, "How greasy am I?" Ah Jat explained, "I said I am greasy!" Joey had kiss scenes with Eason Chan Yik Shun, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and Raymond Lam Fung. She said that the kiss with Chan Yik Shun was more memorable. She said, "Because that kiss took place in broad daylight, many people were watching." Joey's boyfriend Wilfred Lau Ho Lung also had a role in the new film and inevitably became the subject. Ah Jat was asked whether he witnessed the romance blossoming? He said, "If she wouldn't say something and I answer, then wouldn't I be quite a jerk?" Ah Jat said that he has produced 4 films, this was the happiest one. He also praised Joey as genuine. "The Joey I know is very genuine. She may not open up to you every second. Acting aside from making money is also a chance to open up your heart, a kind of release." Ah Jat praised Mag Lam Yun Tung for having a knack for acting. He said, "She knew how to act as soon as she was born, she was so smart. She knew what she was doing." * (2012/08/10) Chrissie Chau Sau Na and Mini Yang Mi earlier in Sanya worked on the film HOLD JU OI (HOLD ON LOVE). Yang Mi fantasized about how Chau Sau Na would tempt her boyfriend Harwick Lau Hoi Wai in a mountain river bathing scene. Actually Chau Sau Na played Aphrodite who was saving the couple. Chau Sau Na said that the water scene felt great. She was not afraid of peeping toms, but when she rested on land bugs would attack her. Even her toes were not spared as she had bug bites all over. Over 100 extras played natives and Chau Sau Na had their protection. "I felt like the Chocolate Clan leader at the coronation." Everyone enthusiastically asked for photos. Chau Sau Na joked that she really wanted chocolate when she saw the natives! * (2012/08/10) Director Pang Ho Cheung after hits film LOVE IN A PULLF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU), LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) ran into the chance to make "Ren Jai" with co-productions. However he was afraid that the next generation would look down upon him for "making movies for money". Thus he was wiling to make the sacrifice and less money in order to persist with pure Hong Kong films. He invested 8 million to make the category III madcap Hong Kong film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HET KEI). With producer Chapman To Man Jat's personal bestiality experience illusion, foul language, female star elevation secret elements expose all in one, the film released grievances along with the audience. However, he still could not believe that he and To Man Jat argued over DaDa Chen Jing's chopstick scene. Pang Ho Cheung said, "DaDa's 'poking', intimate scenes went very smoothly. Yet a street stall scene got me all riled up! DaDa in that scene had no dialogue, she only needed to feed a girl with chopsticks. Actually she didn't know how to use chopsticks, finally the scene took all night to shoot." To Man Jat said that the despised elders teaching others how to act, but he could not stand DaDa getting scolded. He could only lend a helping hand with chopsticks. "DaDa couldn't learn no matter what, Pang Ho Cheung kept yelling. So it was my turn. After the shoot, I sent a text message to yell at Pang Ho Cheung for yelling at actors on the set. I hate that the most!" To Man Jat has been on the receiving end of DaDa's lack of chopstick knowledge and lack of memory for dialogue, thus he was not surprised when he read the news that her book had incorrect words. DaDa awkwardly said, "This time was a lesson, I never thought that life details would affect my performance. I had a lazy pronunciation, before the shoot I already read newspaper to improve. Yet on the set I was nervous and flubbed, dragging To Man Jat into the bad take. I was so guilty I broke down in tears." DaDa played the "popping candy" and the "poking" scenes, which broke through her sexy limits. "In the scene at home I wore a tank top and played video games was very reasonable and natural. I had to trust in the director to be able to do this." To Man Jat revealed that the director during the shoot had the "air conditioning blasting", forcing DaDa's outstanding "poking" effect. In the "Guangxi Fancy Feast" scene "Guangxi mob boss" Ronald Cheng Chung Kei forced film producer To Man Jat into bestiality and eating wild game. It was both one of the film's climax and also his real life story. Pang Ho Cheung said that the incident hid in his mind for 10 years and finally was made into a movie; as for whether To Man Jat got intimate with the donkey, the audience was left with room for their own imagination. To Man Jat joked, "Before getting into the business I was a debt collector, once I collected a big debt. The boss was very happy, and treated us to wild game. He even said he booked a donkey for us to enjoy. However I like the movie was 'blacked out'. The later scene in which I found my memory was completely the director's creation." The "man donkey intercourse" idea satirized the hardship behind how film producers made movies. To Man Jat lamented, "I have met a big director who was more grotesque than the donkey. He held the boss tight and said 'you are my red sun'. I have also heard a boss forced a big director to drink. After he drank he gave jobs to the several dozen people in the crew, which was very touching. At first I thought being a producer had a lot of benefits, like director Wong Jing at work was surrounded by girls. Maybe it's because I am broke, I still have to 'kiss up and take it from below'. However when I use an idea several dozen people can work and eat, I am very satisfied." * (2012/08/10) Hu Ge in the film DIVA played a blind masseur who developed a relationship with music diva Joey Yung Cho Yi. This film will be released on the 16th and confronted Tony Leung Chiu Wai, who also played a blind person in the film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH). Was he confident about beating Wai Jai? He said, "No, Leung Chiu Wai is my idol, a god in my heart. I have liked him for years. His acting is amazing. Although some people feel that his characters are pretty much the same and look the same, as long as you look at them seriously you would know that they are not. They have variations." Was Wai Jai his target, winning awards repeatedly in film? Hu Ge said that he studied drama at the university, he did not have to be a very famous star. He only hoped to have a little achievement in performance. Like Wai Jai he would like to be recognized, with awards to prove his acting. Hu Ge also loved the stage and hoped to perform a play next year. He said, "After graduation I haven't returned to the stage! Someone has approached me before, but I was too busy with work. My heart for the stage is getting stronger and stronger, hopefully next year I will be able to fulfill the wish." Hu Ge in the past mainly worked on television series and all were costume series. He felt limited. This time he had a chance to make the modern film DIVA and play a blind person for the first time, he was very exciting. However he said, "Playing blind is very hard! Although before hand I watched some movies with blind characters, and at home I closed my eyes to feel around with my hands, but during the official shoot the director didn't allow me to cover up my eyes, wear sunglasses or roll my eyes to perform. I had to keep my eyes open and made them without spirit or focus. Ultimately I am normal, my eyes often unknowingly showed spirit. So I had more bad takes." He also in order to bring life to the masseur learned to give massages at a friend's spa. Did his friend arrange for men for him to study with? He laughed and said, "How do you know? That's why when I was giving a massage to the naked Joey I was a little embarrassed. Luckily I have studied it before. I believed that my massage techniques were professional and not overboard." In the film he had romantic nourishment, but in real life his love life was blank as he has been single for two years already. He said that he did not stay away from love, but since he was already 30 he was not as causal as he used to be. Now he would consider it more cautiously and felt that he would date only people he would marry. He claimed to be a traditional man with a very strong family value, thus he wanted to find someone outside the industry. He said, "My life circle is so narrow, finding a girlfriend outside the industry truly isn't easy. Leave it to fate! My parents aren't rushing me to wed, instead my friends are more worried. They often introduced girls to me at events, it's so embarrassing!" Hong Kong male artists loved busty female Mainland stars. Did he have to find a girlfriend with a good figure as well? He humorously said, "Good figure, good for birthing." He felt that the figure was unimportant. The most important was the first impression. * (2012/08/10) Chow Yun Fat, Liu Yifei, Alec Su (So Yau Peng), Japanese star Hiroshi Tamaki starred film THE ASSASSINS (TUNG CHEUK TONG) will be released in the Mainland on October 1 National Day slot. Earlier the film released its concept poster, on a dagger that was dripping with blood was a reflection of Chow Yun Fat's regal face; reflecting Cao Cao's under siege situation, relationships and schemes as battles both blatant and hidden were about to start. The Chow Yun Fat played Cao Cao had many powers wanting to kill him. Liu Yifei played Prince Lingsui and Hiroshi Tamaki played Mu Shun grew up together, but they were star crossed due to the "Cao Assassination"; in the process with contact with Chow Yun Fat, the trio had dramatic internal struggle emotionally. With the sword pointed at their throats, family, love and patriotism were fatally deep. So Yau Peng played Emperor Xian of Han. He might be the king but everyday he amused himself with opera and had no real power; with Cao Cao, he had a hard choice to make between being a leisurely Emperor or regaining the power that belonged to him. In the Bronze Sparrow Terrance that was filled with murderous intent, on the battlefield of "love, lust, power and scheme" Cao Cao still needed to display the dominance of an emperor and the elegance of a hero. Chow Yun Fat said, "The director's story and concept were very wonderful, they were very different from the Cao Cao I knew from books and other channels." * (2012/08/10) Huang Xiaoming, Deng Chao and Tong Dawei worked on the Peter Chan Ho Sun produced and directed film. Earlier it shot in Tianjun then in Beijing. The story took place from the 80s to today, as three Beijing University students founded an English training school with dreams of going to the U.S. The trio's costumes were unveiled. Huang Xiaoming played the "earthy one" (native), Deng Chao played the "overseas one" (student returning from overseas studies) and Tong Dawei played the "angry youth". They posed for pictures in front of the blackboard of the classroom and their looks were called the "most down to earth in history". When Huang Xiaoming first started, cinematographer Christopher Doyle (To Ho Fung) complained that he was too handsome. With the costume director's transformation, Huang Xiaoming stood next to Chan Ho Sun and remained undetected. Chan thought he was a set assistant. The film has not been named yet as the title was being voted for. They included PARTNERS, OCEAN WIDE SKY EMPTY and THE AMERICAN MOON. * (2012/08/09) The Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit), Michelle Chen and Wen Zhang starred new film BUT YI SUN TAM (SECOND TO NONE DETECTIVE) recently shot on location in Hong Kong. Lead actress Michelle Chen two nights ago worked on a wire scene in Causeway Bay. The team not only used a crane truck but also fifty workers, attracting many onlookers. Around 9PM, Michelle Chen was pulled by 4 to 5 men to around 20 feet up. In mid air she was screaming and kicking, resulting in a bad take. Because most of the workers were male, Michelle Chen in order to prevent wardrobe malfunction kept pulling at the bottom of her shorts. The film's action director Corey Yeung Kwai supervised the entire time. Finally Michelle Chen took three takes. No wonder when she returned to the ground she immediately flashed her trademark dimpled smile. Later Michelle worked another midair fall scene. Before the scene several male workers put the safety harness on her. She had to lean back on the ground then dragged up to the air. Before she was facing the sky the entire time, she could not see how high she was. Thus she was not as afraid as before. After the wire scene, the Goddess worked on the ground scene. Although she only played dead on the road, she still took half a hour to complete the scene. * (2012/08/09) The pseudo model Jeana Ho Pui Yu, Celia Kwok Wing Yi and other sexy women starred category III erotic film DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI) will attack the October 1 holiday. The latest trailer continues to be dirty, as the subject of which is the world's first trailer exclusively for women. Many Hong Kong women were interviewed on the streets about their male companion's entertainment trips to the North as well as special sex terms, while showing the related sex scenes with Mongolian F cup actress Daniella Wangli and lead actor Justin Cheung Kin Sing. In addition, the film will have ladies only screenings so female viewers will be able to ditch their male companions and watch the erotic film. * (2012/08/09) The Joey Yung Cho Yi starred DIVA last night held its premiere. She with Chapman To Man Jat, Hu Ge, Mag Lam Yun Tung and Carlos Chan Ka Lok attended. Joey's boyfriend Wilfred Lau Ho Lung was also a part of the film but has been absent from all promotions, seemingly to avoid sharing the stage with Joey. Joey said that she did not mind who was standing next to her. Hu Ge said that this production was not fun enough. Did he think his role was too small? He denied that, did he want to lengthen his intimate scene with Joey? He said, "Intimacy was enough, with additional scenes I am afraid that I would fall for her." Speaking of Joey and Lau Ho Lung's romance, Hu Ge admitted that he had no idea and joked that he would ask her when he had a chance. Later when he posed for photos with Joey, he truly asked Joey, "I have a question to ask you." Joey immediately winked at Hu Ge in a hilarious manner. Joey was dressed in black. Did Lau Ho Lung look it over? She said, "No need!" As for Hu Ge's fear of falling for her, Joey said that he was very handsome. Speaking of Hu Ge not knowing about her romance, Joey joked, "I told him to say I don't know to everything." Why did she not telling others? She asked reporters, "Why should I? (Share the joy!) Do we need to?" Why was Si Hing missing? Joey pointed out that he was working. If the company arranged for them to promote together, would she accept that? Joey said, "I will worry about it when it happens. (Are you avoiding to share the stage?) No." Nicholas Tse Ting Fung yesterday came in support. When asked whether he and Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi got back together, he said, "No." Yet he admitted that they spent a day together as a family. As for the chance of getting back together, Ting Fung immediately shook his head. Yesterday an internet search of Albert Yeung Sau Sing's information mentioned his ties with the underworld. Yeung Sau Sing said that he has already given the matter to the lawyers to handle. * (2012/08/09) YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Taiwan star Michelle Chen yesterday attended a press conference in Hong Kong to announce officially that she has joined Terence Chang Ka Chun's ATN Talent Management Limited. Yesterday Chan Ka Chun, company board of director member Yvonne Chuang and Ho Lai Cheun attended the ceremony in support. This time Michelle Chen joined the new company not only to make movies and records, but the company also encouraged her to date. She had a lot of freedom. At the press conference, Chang Ka Chun gave Michelle Chen a necklace. Then they put gold fishes into a fish tank for good luck. Michelle Chen admitted that she had a lot of film offers but she would be selective. First she will release her record next year. At the same time she would have two tailor made big films, including the Raymond Yip Wai Man directed, Manfred Wong Jun produced romance that will shoot in Europe and a love story that will center around the song that she created. Michelle Chen said that the record release was a dream come true, and she will work hard on creating. She said that she has been creating for seven years. Everyone through her song can have more understanding of her work, health and love. She also said that the company wanted her to have love, but now she has so much work to do she left love to fate. Michelle Chen said that she could not reveal the terms of the contract. She only said that she liked to make movies in Hong Kong very much. She would like to work with director Peter Chan Ho Sun the most. As for the company encouraging her to date, she said, "It's because I am grown! The company thinks an artist's thought is very important." She admitted that she has suitors now but for now work will come first. Then she added, "Normal exchanges are OK." Will she be able to handle both work and love? She said that love truly depended on fate. She has not dated in awhile, as a woman she really wanted romance. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, AUGUST 12 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD JENNIFER TSE AND ANDY TIEN GET INTO A LETHAL LOVER'S QUARREL Whether a weapon is naked is secondary, more importantly is whether it can kill someone. If it is both then the victim can be considered as deserving to die. By the same token, marriage certificate does not represent forever. Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) says that his life with Jennifer Tse Ting Ting right now is no different from a couple and does not need a marriage certificate to prove it; seeing them moving their sweet life to the actual interview, their endless lovers' quarrel and how he looks into her eyes are like lethal weapons. Bystanders can only hope that the interview can end sooner. - MAN KWOK CHUN On Chi Kit and Tse Ting Ting earlier worked on the Wong Jing directed new film NAKED WEAPON (JUET SIK MO HEI). As soon as their interview started they gave the impression that they should not make this type of action film. Instead a pure love story would be more suitable for them as they could relate to it even more. During the interview, he more than once fixed her hair. Ting Ting also more than once handed tissues to her boyfriend. Both overlooked any discomfort among the bystanders. Release Date: August 23 Addicted To Action Film However because of this action film, the always obedient Andy began to fight with Ting Ting. He said that at first he objected to Ting Ting who had no martial art background taking this role, as he was afraid that she would get hurt. Ting Ting said, "He was mad at me for a long time, he said that he didn't like to see me making action films." Andy immediately followed, "However, after seeing her finishing it I have a lot of confidence in her. She learned very quickly, completely different from before the shoot!" Ting Ting also said that after her first action film she was immediately addicted, "Because it is a lot of fun. Watching my own film I would be like wow, actually I am such a good fighter. It's very gratifying. Thus after this time I will study kung fu, so when I will make another one I will look even better." Let Girlfriend Work On Bed Scenes Speaking of after years in the business they finally worked on their first film together as a couple, Andy complained, "Often Ting Ting on the set would be so focused, when I spoke to her she would ignore me. I would always think that she was mad at me. So even if I was next to her I would send a text message to ask her what happened, if she was mad at me! I spent a lot of time before I got used to it, at first I would always think did I do something wrong? It was really sad and took some getting used to." Although the film had the word NAKED in its title, Ting Ting in the film was not sexy at all. Fans might be disappointed. Andy stressed that he would not object to his girlfriend working on a bed scene. He said, "I don't mind fight scene or bed scene. It depends on what she likes. I don't mind and I won't get jealous, it's just a movie." Playing Ting Ting's father in the film, Sammo Hung Kam Bo gave a very powerful impression to Ting Ting. Yet he was not arrogant at all. "On the set everyone calls him Big Brother, he is very powerful. However actually he is quite a joker, he even always plays pranks on people. So He doesn't scare me. In addition his action scenes are very strong and very powerful!" Ting Ting also said that her father Patrick Tse Yin and brother Nicholas Tse Ting Fung did not give her too many advice acting wise. She joked, "I am always talking to them but they don't react, hopefully they just don't want to give me too much pressure. If not I would be very hurt! However I know that Gor Gor earlier showed my videos to his friends and even praised me, but actually I thought I was just iffy." For Now Not Thinking Marriage Since 2009 they have been dating for three years. Marriage was a definite ending, but she has not forced the issue and he accepted this type of relationship. Andy said that since they already had an understanding, a marriage certificate was unimportant. He said, "Basically Ting Ting and I are great right now, pretty much like a married couple. Thus for now we haven't thought about marriage, in the next few years we won't think about it." MING PAO DAILY, AUGUST 12 2012, FILM WORDS PANG HO CHEUNG PLAYS DIRTY DIRECTLY AND ABSOLUTELY Several months ago the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival was very supportive of Pang Ho Cheung. Aside from the opening film being his LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING), it even "world premiered" his VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). I saw both at the Film Festival and the live reaction was just as wonderful. The former was rapidly released and became quite a hit, recently the latter's release also crushed foreign films to land on top of the box office. VULGARIA: Daring and Outstanding As many directors who rose to fame in Hong Kong fell into the depression, Pang Ho Cheung undoubtedly is one of the few successful rebounders. He may even stand out more than before. LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) is about a Hong Kong couple's migration to Beijing for career and love and becomes a pleasant Beijing Hong Kong romantic comedy that is mischievously fun yet maintains mainstream convention. The return to Hong Kong VULGARIA is completely a foul mouth parody, living up to its title so vulgarly that it is actually "obscene". Yet fortuantely it is honest and not pretentious at all, as it achieves pure and unfiltered joy and a fun sense of comedy. Pang Ho Cheung daringly stands out, far better than his previous work AV. Chapman To Man Jat in VULGARIA plays a Hong Kong film producer who is invited to attend an university forum. As soon as he starts he makes a "producer equals pubic hair" dirty statement, then he shares the "obscene history" of his film production and personal life. With sight and sound he is both hilarious and absurd. Yet the camera avoids nudity, especially when it ridicules the tragedy and the comedy of the film industry's fall. Actually Pang Ho Cheung's first film as director YOU SHOOT I SHOOT (MAI HUNG PAK YUN) already joked around with the Hong Kong film industry, this time the topic is taboo. Many parts of the film are truly beyond rough, the "oral sex" gimmick is particularly chauvinistic. Yet the entire film also captures various ugly sides of the Hong Kong men in a fully self ridiculing manner. Once the star of Pang Ho Cheung's ISABELLA, To Man Jat again gives a outstanding performance. He and his partner Matthew Chow Hoi Kwong's bid for a Guangxi rich man (Ronald Cheng CHung Kei) to invest in their film makes them suffer all kinds of indignity. Truly no one knows whether to laugh or to cry at how outrageous and deranged the film gets! To Man Jat, Chow Hoi Kwong, Cheng Chung Kei all perform extremely well. Female character DaDa Chen Jing is tempting to the eye. Krystal Tin Yui Nei and Fiona Sit Hoie each are wonderful on their own. With help from MICROSEX OFFICE (CHIU SING BAN GUNG SUT)'s Jim Chim Shui Man, 3D SEX AND ZEN's Hiro Hayama (Yip San Ho) and I WANT MORE (GUONG YUN NGOR YIU)'s Susan Shaw Yam Yam and others, the film is full and funny. Whether you know the dirty and the obscene or not, whether you agree with the "foul language culture", Pang Ho Cheung currently is great at writing and directing as his film is both agile and lively. (Three and a half out of five stars) THE SILENT WAR: One Sided Favoritism For Communist China Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung are another Hong Kong writing and directing team that reminds active for a long time. Their new film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) even targets the Mainland market, a big spy film with a strong cast. The film takes place in the 1949 Mainland, early in its "Liberation". The Communist Chinese intelligence organization monitored the Taiwan Kuomintang's secret radio channel to prevent destructive assassination with the remaining Republicans in the Mainland. This film is based on Mai Jia's novel PLOT. The original work also has three independent stories of "listening to the wind", "watching the wind" and "capturing the wind". I have seen the Liu Yunlong directed and starred television series, the performance of which was decent. I have also seen the Chen Kuo-Fu and Gao Qunshu co-directed hit spy film THE MESSAGE. Now THE SILENT WAR creates the "listening to the wind" story anew and makes some rather drastic changes. In the television series Wang Baoqiang played a country blind idiot with exceptional hearing Bing. Now he becomes a Shanghai blind piano tuner with exceptional hearing, played by Tony Leung Chiu Wai, who runs into the beautiful yet well trained Communist Chinese wonder woman special agent Zhou xun. Mak and Chong's adaptation is elegantly packaged and adds many gimmicks, as they battle from Hong Kong to Shanghai. The opening Hong Kong upper class society spy war seems to reflect Qin Xuesen's defection from the U.S. to the Mainland, which has both style and drama. From then on the endless battle of brains and brawns has many twists and turns. Yet in comparison to the Mainland television version, this big movie truly is excessively concocted without enough realism. In addition it is too welcoming of the Mainland's "clear differentiation between enemy and us" theme, favoring the Communist China all the way and completely vilifying Kuomintang. The film never mentions the numerous people who suffered settlement during the Shanghai "Liberation". Of course, I understand that Hong Kong writers and directors cannot violate the rules in the Mainland, but I am very disappointed in the film's latter "Communist Beautification" attitude. Actually the relationship between the Communists and the Republicans is very hard to handle. THE MESSAGE describes the battle of wits between China and Japan during the Japanese aggression period, in turn dodging the complicated mess. As a Gu Long style modern wu xia mystery film, THE SILENT WAR is made with an effort. Yet the depiction of the Communist and Kuomintang spy war is unrealistic and should not be condoned. Leung Chiu Wai is also lackluster playing blind, while Zhou Xun maintains her star power. It turns out that sensationalizing the story of university professor who accosts a judge with a crossbow doesn’t go over well with governmental bodies…but thankfully, film fans love it, as this courtroom thriller – buffeted by the media uproar – became one of last year’s biggest Korean hits.
