MISCELLANEOUS * (2012/08/08) Huang Yi earlier was caught at Central and suddenly she was rumored to be with child. Days later, she reportedly has decided to resign from her new film IP MAN -- JUNG GIK YUT JIN (IP MAN -- ULTIMATE BATTLE). She supposedly was interested in spending some time in the U.S. Huang Yi after a quick wedding and divorce with her former husband had emotional problems. After awhile she was able to overcome it. Huang Yi came to Hong Kong for additional shoot and voice work of Johnnie To Kei Fung's new film DUK JIN (DRUG WAR). For just one short scene she was willing to cut her hair short again for the character. Her spokesperson said, "I never heard any (pregnancy rumor), she just finished an English film with a lot of action. Later she will still have to go to England for additional shoot. (Did she resign from IP?) Supposedly, probably because of exhaustion. Even if she can't make this film she still has a lot of arrangements left. She can't possibly stop." IP film boss Sin Kwok Lam yesterday confirmed Huang Yi's resignation and said that her decision has messed up the just started production. However due to the decent relationship he did not plan to follow up. Currently he has asked Mainland actress Zhou Chuchu to take her place. * (2012/08/08) South China Film Industry Workers Union earlier held a 63rd Anniversary and the 39th board of director inauguration, over 200 people gathered. The annual budget report was passed, with the 38th chair Yu Lun making the conference report and the secretary general Lee Cheung making the election result report. At the same time, the new chair Cheung Hong Tat hosted the toast ceremony as well as a lucky drawing to celebrate. Yu Lun said that the Union as before persisted its stance on love for the nation and Hong Kong while being a part of the community and caring for its members by fighting for even more benefits for them. In the past year, the Union held over ten events every years and they were deeply popular with the members. Cheung Hong Tat again thanked the members for trusting him, he would do his best to continue to extend the Union's excellent traditions. The Union's 34th management structure included President Ha Mung, Chair Cheung Hong Tat, Vice Chairs Pak Yan, Kong Han, Yu Lun, Lee Cheung, Chow Chung, Sze Yeung Ping, Sau Pak Kei and secretary general Lee Him Choi. * (2012/08/08) The film DIVA will be released in the Mainland next Thursday, yesterday director Heiward Mak Hei Yan along with producer and actor Chapman To Man Jat, Joey Yung Cho Yi, Hu Ge, and Carlos Chan Ka Lok attended the Beijing press conference. Over 100 Hu Ge and Joey fans came in support. The film's subject was an expose of show business secrets. The host asked the actors about their relationship with their managers. Joey joked, "I know how Hu Ge would describe his manager!" Hu Ge explained, "My manager and make up artists are fuller, when they walked on either side of me I felt like a hot dog." Ah Jat said, "If your manager is a hot dog, then I am like the fast food shop fried chicken leg. My manager is that vat of hot grease because she would 'fry' me nonstop." Joey added, "Actually Hu Ge's manager should be ketchup, because if someone wanted to bite Hu Ge, his manager would definitely spray him right away." Joey also said that she and her manager were frenemies as they often argued over matters large and small, but in the end they would settle them in peace. The host also asked the actors to say something touching to their managers. Ah Jat said, "I really have to thank Mani because she signed me when I was at my poorest." Hu Ge said, "Many viewers can't see how managers give for actors. I want to tell everyone, this film promotion we have to go to 14 cities. One of the numerous suitcases is filled with Chinese herbal medicine, which belongs to my manager. Everyday he has to take drugs to survive. He truly is risking life and death for me!" Finally the host asked the actors to make their poster poses for photos, and Hu Ge embraced Joey. * (2012/08/08) Anna Yau Hoi Man yesterday held a Now TV press conference to celebrate her new book sales and promoting her program. She invited three of the most important people in her life: Andy Lau Tak Wa, Chan Hoi Kei and Ho Lai Cheun, as well as friends Lin Lei and Bonnie Xian (Sin Sik Lai). Speaking of Sammi Cheng Sau Man and Andy Hui Chi On's rumored wedding, Wa Jai was surprised and even asked the media for details. Because he and Cheng Sau Man's film THE BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) will continue its shoot around the 15th and the 20th, he jokingly asked the media to tell him when they heard. He could then arrange his schedule as he would not ask other artists about their personal lives. * (2012/08/07) The Pang Ho Cheung directed, Chapman To Man Jat and DaDa Chen Jing starred film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) will be released two days from now (August 9), but over the past 3 weekends 58 advanced screenings and audience appreciation events have taken place. Pang Ho Cheung earlier went to Causeway Bay President Theatre for audience appreciation and asked whether any of the viewers came from overseas, a woman in the front row raised her hand and said that she came from Taiwan. She turned out to the YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE "Goddess" Michelle Chen. Actually Michelle Chen came to work in Hong Kong and took time to watch VULGARIA. When she posed with Pang Ho Cheung for pictures, she praised the film as being entertaining and funny. Pang Ho Cheung was happy that even a female Taiwan star would feel the authentic VULGARIA was entertaining and funny. Pang Ho Cheung and Ah Jat brought one of the leads Ah Soh the donkey on patrol. Actually they were two very realistic prop donkeys. The guys brought the donkeys to an audience appreciation event, but viewers were so excited that they screamed for Ah Jat to perform the scene with the donkey live. Ah Jat joked, "Don't go overboard, for 70 bucks you got a movie and a show, what else do you want?" * (2012/08/07) Joey Yung Cho Yi and Hu Ge worked together on the Emperor Motion Picture DIVA, after which they became good friends. In one scene they had "skin contact". To perform this scene well, Joey bared her back for "personal service" from Hu Ge who played a blind masseur. The team decided to clear the set to keep Joey from getting nervous. Joey's assistant "supervised" the entire time to look out for peeping toms. Joey said that at first she was a little nervous, but because Hu Ge's skills were "exceptional" she was so relaxed that she almost fell asleep. Joey admitted that she did not consider the "sacrifice" in detail. When she received the script she already understood that this scene was necessary. In addition she had great communications with the director and others so she had no worry at all. Did she ask Mother Yung for permission? Joey said, "I had to get it past Mani for real, as soon as she said OK then it's OK. (Was it the most daring time for a movie?) I consider it is. (Bad takes?) No, we just had to shoot from different angles." Hu Ge in order to provide the "best enjoyment" to Joey not only prepared like caring for and disinfecting his hands, but also before the shoot began he even asked for "secret techniques" from experts. "Normally I visited a familiar massage therapist. I know this time I had to play a similar character, of course I asked for consulting. (How did Joey's back feel?) Very soft." * (2012/08/07) Producer Derek Yee Tung Sing yesterday along with director Law Chi Leung, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Lau Ching Wan, Mini Yang Mi, Jing Boran and others appeared on the Central Television Station program PREMIERE to promote their film THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN). Linked in rumor and with fiery passion scenes in the film, Ting Fung and Yang Mi both appeared. Yang Mi revealed that when she worked with Ting Fung, she was nervous as soon as she saw him. Now the palm of her hands were still sweating. Ting Fung pointed out that Yang Mi's acting was very pure. This type of freshness was very rare nowadays. Ching Wan brought the bullet proof vase that he invented in the film and turned into a shopping channel host. "Everyone take a look at this bullet proof vase. It's light and airy, when not used for block bullets it can be used as underwear to be worn for bedtime." * (2012/08/07) The Paciwood Entertainment and Nandu Media organized 1st Chinese Short Film Media Award press conference and the 2013 New Director Take Off Project launch ceremony took place yesterday in Guangzhou. Leon Lai Ming led Janice Man Wing Shan, Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting) in attendance and announced the 2012 to 2013 competition has officially begun. This event theme was "Fire, Shadow", which implied young people's new idea spark and moonlight seemed to have left a trace in time. Leon hoped through the contest to gradually build an excellent director talent pool, select and promote young Chinese film creators for them to have even more creative resources and opportunities. Leon said that this time they clicked with Nandu right now because they had a same idea, as they hoped that Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan young people who were interested in directing work and had directing potential would have the chance to display their endless creativity. Janice Man said that to make a good movie, the director was very important. Thus she absolutely supported this contest. Originally she was working elsewhere on a new film, but she still deliberately came to attend the press conference. In addition, the press conference invited guests Leon, Janice Man, Aarif, director Roy Chow Hin Yeung, Tsai Yueh-Hsun, Gao Qunshu to conduct a clapper board ceremony. A large director take board was on hand. As everyone was counting down to the clap, Leon suddenly discovered Janice Man only stuck her right arm under the clapper. Luckily Leon noticed before it came down and immediately told her to move her arm. Janice Man still had no idea what happened. "I really didn't know! I am very scared! Because a reporter told me to look at the camera, I didn't notice that my hand almost became a human sandwich. I really have to thank Leon for saving me." * (2012/08/06) DaDa Chen Jing, Chapman To Man Jat, Krystal Tin Yui Nei, Hiro Hayama, Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Julian Cheung Chi Lam and others two nights ago attended the VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) premiere. The venue was decorated as a 70s and 80s nostalgic cinema, with hand drawn tickets and snack shops with sugar canes and dragon's beard candy. Ah Jat gave a "career fan" with a close up shot of DaDa's chest to Fiona. Fiona confidently said that she did not need it and pushed it toward her mother's chest. Female lead DaDa worse a sexy nurse uniform but kept dodging cameras. As soon as she went backstage she covered up her career line with a jacket. She explained, "I am in a hurry. I never expected that this venue would not have a bathroom. Because I didn't use tape, I am very afraid of a wardrobe malfunction. Just now I didn't move too much. Actually wearing this nurse uniform was pretty interesting. If any men felt ill, I could rescue him." DaDa admitted that she already went very far. If the box office continued to climb, she would save the chance for the director to don a woman disguise and make sacrifices. Ah Jat said that the advanced screening box office has already passed 1 million. He was very optimistic and confident about the opening. He said, "Hopefully the boss would see the good performance and support even more Hong Kong films. (Will you celebrate?) Over 50 million the pants come off, DaDa will show her career line, I will show my career in my behind!" Tin Yui Nei bared a little of her back in support of her husband's work . She joked, "I am just the horizon, not much to see. If the movie really passes 50 million, the old man of course should take off his pants." * (2012/08/06) Shiga Lin Si Nga, Angelina Zhang (Cheung Woon Nga), Linah Matsuoka, Mia and Chrissie Chau Sau Na's boyfriend Avis yesterday promoted their film LAN KWAI LONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) with a condom and glow light distribution. Lin Si Nga wore a super short dress to show off her legs and said that she has taken all the wardrobe malfunction precautions. She wore a tube top and two pairs of pants underneath. She said, "Earlier someone almost caught me underneath my dress on a escalator, luckily I was wearing something underneath at the time. Now I am the king of that." She said that lately she has been busy with the film promotion and new record, so she did not have time to have fun. Did the company deliberately schedule more jobs for her so she was unable to go out at night? She stressed that after she started her career she rarely went out at night. As for Wilson Chin Kwok Wai's plan to make GUANGZHOU YEH PO, would she recommend herself? She said, "I am more bashful, I don't dare to recommend myself. I am better off waiting for the company to make arrangements. (If you do would you have more breakthrough performance?) I know my figure is limited, for now I can't be sexy. (Would you get a breast enhancement?) In the future I might, but for now I feel they are enough!" Cheung Nga Woon admitted that because she was not well known she had to be sexy. Mainland star Liu Yuqi became much more famous because of rumors with Raymond Lam Fung, would she follow suit and date a male star? She admitted that she might have a chance to give it a try, but she did not like Lam Fung. She used to like Bosco Wong Chung Chak, but after he and Myolie Wu Hung Yi broke up she thought he was too unfaithful. Now she likes more mature men, but they are almost all married. Japanese model Linah Matsuoka went to Central with her new guy. Because she was drunk she vomited on the street. Yesterday she said that because she brought her Japanese friends to Lan Kwai Fong. She was a little sick that night so she only drank a little, she did not expect to get sick. Luckily her friend's boyfriend took her home. She even joked, "It's the first time I was so embarrassed on the street. Maybe I am pregnant, just joking!" * (2012/08/05) The film IP MAN JUNG GIK YUT JIN (IP MAN THE FINAL BATTLE) started production in Foshan. Its actors Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Gillian Chung Yun Tung, Anita Yuen Wing Yi and Rose Chan Ka Wun attended the ceremony. This film also has Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Huang Yi, Kevin Cheng Ka Wing and Ip Man's eldest son Ip Chun in a guest performance. Ah Gil arrived in Foshan and was excited about the news that Hong Kong Olympic cyclist Sarah Lee Wai Sze won a bronze medal. In the film she had action scenes and had to fight with Ken Low Wai Kwong. She joked that she was somewhat afraid from just thinking about it as his arms were thicker than her thighs. Wong Chau Sun studied Hung Kuen and recently has been practicing Wing Chun. Chau Sun joked that he was convinced to take this role when he was drunk, perhaps this will be his final martial art film. He appreciated the set's Hong Kong set the most, as it was very realistic and nostalgic. Yuen Wing Yi played Ip man's wife. Len Len said that she would play an ordinary housewife who did not know kung fu, which she would make up for with expression and acting. * (2012/08/05) Chapman To Man Jat, DaDa Chen Jing, Hiro Hayama and director Pang Ho Cheung yesterday attended the West Kowloon Center promotion of their film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). Ah Jat had a little fun at the expense of DaDa as he placed her sticker over his important area. DaDa not only did not mind but also said that she was very happy, which immediately earned Ah Jat's praises with a dirty joke. Ah Jat also joked that Heaven has treated him well. Last year he made 8 movies, several of which he worked with the quality first Fiona Sit Hoi Kei. In the last one he was able to work with ample bodied DaDa. However, he still loved the wife at home Krystal Tin Yui Nei the most. Because his old lady's figure was even and even instead was the most enduring. DaDa agreed and thus would properly maintain her chest. VULGARIA will be released in a few days but already has had over 30 advanced screenings. Before its official opening the box office has already passed 1 million. Ah Jat said that when he made the film he was no long worried about the box office. He knew that it definitely was suitable to Hong Kong viewer taste. Next year he will also make more authentic Hong Kong films. * (2012/08/04) Chapman To Man Jat, DaDa Chen Jing and Ronald Cheng Chung Kei starred in the film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET), which earlier held six days of advanced screenings. Every show was sold out and had decent reaction. The film tonight will premiere in Tsim Sha Tsui. Friends like Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Shawn Yue Man Lok and others will appear. Reportedly, some artists asked for tickets too late and were helplessly left out in the cold. VULGARIA is a Hong Kong style comedy, thus the premiere will have some authentic Hong Kong snacks like dragon beard candy and dried plum, and of course the "Yui Hin popping candy" that was rather popular with the advanced screening! Ah Jat was very happy about the good response to the new film and said that aside from industry insiders, he also invited many friends outside the business to attend. "Because the film is very funny, I want to invite friends to watch it first. I want them to be happy!" Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam and he have always been buddies. He asked Kong Yeuk Lam if she wanted premiere tickets, but she in order to support To Man Jat decided to buy her own ticket. Ah Jat was very touched. "At the movies you can sense the audience atmosphere. The feeling is even more real." * (2012/08/04) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Zhang Jingchu for the first time worked together on the film LACUNA (DUEN LIU PIN). Lok Jai played a lonely man who was afraid of heights, frogs and alpacas, but had to wear Arab disguises with Zhang Jingchu and led an alpaca through the city. When they rehearsed in the barn, the alpaca's lost expression and their awkwardness were well paired. In one scene they went wild at a night spot and even tried "frog licking" and other stuff. Yue Man Lok said that now he still remembers the taste of the frog and remains shaken. "I am very afraid of frogs, but Zhang Jingchu kept handing the frog to me and wanted me to lick that frog." Zhang Jingchu revealed that she had "black out" experience before. Once she drank so much that when she woke up she could not remember anything, just like in the film. * (2012/08/04) Joey Yung Cho Yi and Hu Ge yesterday promoted their film DIVA. Many female stars after working with Hu Ge praised him to be the "gift to women". Cho Yi was asked whether she agreed, but Hu Ge cut in. "This isn't fair to Cho Yi, she shouldn't be called a 'woman'!" Cho Yi chimed in that she was only a girl. "Hu Ge often played with girls of the team but wouldn't make people feel he was 'dirty'." Hu Ge even gave Cho Yi a massage demonstration on the spot. Cho Yi praised that it was comfortable and told him not to stop. * (2012/08/04) The 50 year old Best Actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai two nights ago attended THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) premiere. Wai Jai was very sentimental. Looking back at his extreme and stubborn youth, he felt that he was both silly and dumb. Now he with his "happiness was the most important" life attitude would not feel any regret even without any descendant. He also lamented that his romantic road was just as rugged as former rumored girlfriend Maggie Cheung Man Yuk. Leung Chiu Wai, Zhou Xun, and director Alan Mak Siu Fai's film THE SILENT WAR two nights ago held a premiere. Gossip couple Model Ma Mia Chen Jing Yi and Chrissie Chau Sau Na's boyfriend Avis, Rose Chan Ka Wun and Helen To Yu Fung all attended, but Wai Jai's wife Carina Lau Ka Ling did not appear. Wai Jai pointed out that his wife Lau Ka Ling due to work has not have the chance to enjoy this film yet. He returned to Hong Kong for a few days to promote. In a few days he will head to Kaiping for THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI)'s additional shoot, he was so busy that he had no time to meet with friends. As for good friend Cheung Man Yuk's break up, Wai Jai said, "I only found out from the newspaper. She and I haven't seen each other in a long while, as she moves more swiftly. Actually not just her, even good friends like (Jacky) Cheung Hok Yau I normally wouldn't deliberate see." Is his marriage with Ka Ling sweet now? He continued, "Everyone is like this, life has many partings and unions. It's very normal." Did he have any "good property" to introduce to Maggie? He said, "No!" As for director Mak Siu Fai's compliment that after marriage his personality has become easy going, Wai Jai said that it was related to getting older. "I don't have to too serious with everything. Now I have become much more relaxed. With my changes the pursuit is different too. After the 50th birthday this year, I realized that life should be happy. Looking back, I feel I was very silly. I was so stubborn, extreme, picky, life should be a bit happier. Yet this is definitely a part of life. Maybe I was dumb, but being late is unimportant. Happiness is the most important." Would he regret that he has not have any descendant yet? Wai Jai said, "I feel no regret. Everyday I only remind myself, don't complain. The way it is is the way it is, it doesn't matter." He accepted that life had both gains and losses. His life view change benefited everyone around him. He said, "Now I want to make more movies with hope and happiness more than I want to make art drama films. After several decades of heavy movies, it's enough. I want to be happy, things have many prospectives." Director Mak Siu Fai was rather confident in the film's box office because his earlier collaboration with Zhou Xun, THE MESSAGE, made 300 million yuan in the Mainland. Did Zhou Xun wanted to be a lucky star? Zhou Xun smiled and said, "That would be great!" Speaking of his career personal total box office reaching 1.8 billion yuan RMB and was thus nicknamed "Zhou 18", she pointed out that such a good performance was unexpected. "Mak Siu Fai and Wai Jai both said that with such a good performance I could get a raise. I would consider it." Yet she pointed out that her worth was not 1.8 billion, otherwise I would be able to retire. She also would not due to her high career achievement raised the bar on what she looked for in a mate. Zhou Xun said, "My box office has nothing to do with looking for a boyfriend, let it takes its natural course. I wouldn't feel I am high up, I am so short in stature." Would she try to meet a boyfriend during her time off? Zhou Xun said, "So soon?" Would she accept dating a foreigner? She said, "I don't know, I haven't tried it. I really don't know how to answer everyone's question!" * (2012/08/03) The Pang Ho Cheung directed, Chapman To Man Jat and DaDa Chen Jing starred new category III film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). Although the dialogue and story were extremely vulgar, the film was savory and funny. To Man Jat on and off camera made people hold their bellies from laughing. He said, "When Pang Ho Cheung told me I would have a bed scene with DaDa, I was in Heaven. How far did DaDa go in LAN KWAI FONG (HEI OI YE PO)! I never expected that actually she and I were acting in a sick bed, I really wanted to curse. I even found out that while DaDa was pretty and poking out, she actually didn't know how to hold chopsticks! She kept on having bad takes. The film took 12 days to shoot. If DaDa knew how to hold chopsticks, it would have been done in 8 days!" DaDa whined and brown nosed after hearing. "I am more used to using the fork, so no matter how I hold chopsticks it wasn't right. I had to learn on the spot. Whatever, it's never to late to learn. I was very happy to see my idol during the shot, when I saw Ah Jat I was so nervous that I had bad takes. On the first day at work we were rocking cars, I wasn't embarrassed. This character really had potential, I was fully prepared mentally. (Were you prepared to be poking out?) The scene was at home so it was very natural!" Director Pang Ho Cheung said, "The film took 12 days to complete, which is considered my record. I just wanted to make back that type of hilarious Hong Kong films of yore. Luckily without any censor cut it was released with a category III rating. (The sensitive subject kept it from the Mainland market.) That doesn't mean loss. The film cost 7 million to make, it can break even. Investors drive the Mainland market, it's very hard to make a purely Hong Kong film! You can't say the Mainland market was sacrificed. I can 100% display my creativity without being castrated, it's well worth it!" * (2012/08/03) The Joey Yung Cho Yi starred film DIVA will premiere in Hong Kong and Macau next Wednesday and Thursday. Earlier Joey expressed that she would not mind sharing the stage with Wilfred Lau Ho Lung, but he due to work will not be able to attend. The Emperor Motion Picture DIVA next Wednesday (August 8) will premiere in Hong Kong and Thursday (August 9) in Macau. The focus naturally will fall on lead actress Joey, whether co-star Lau Ho Lung will appear has also caught attention. At first when they were linked in rumors, Joey was asked whether she would promote with Lau Ho Lung. She said that she would not avoid him. Joey admitted, "After all the hard work that went into making the movie, everyone should properly enjoy the result. I definitely will attend the premiere! I won't dodge!" Joey would support all the promotions fully, but Lau Ho Lung would miss both Hong Kong and Macau premieres. Emperor Motion Picture admitted that Lau Ho Lung will not attend hte premieres next week. Despite being invited, his management company said that Lau Ho Lung was scheduled to work on both days and will not be able to attend the premieres. As for whether Lau Ho Lung will attend other promotional events, Emperor said that DIVA promotions will begin today. Because other locations' distributors and film companies did not ask, for now Lau Ho Lung will not participate in other promotions. * (2012/08/03) Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi in the film THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) played Wang Yueying who loved difficultly. For Xiao Shenyang, she suffered "disfiguring" from Huang Weide. Pak Chi's "disfiguring" look was art director William Chang Suk Ping personally designed, ugly yet made people's hearts ache. The crew revealed that Pak Chi was not resistant toward "disfiguring". In order to achieve the best result, she despite having a fever posed for the mold. Pak Chi said, "If I am doing it I have to do it the best I can, if the disfiguration isn't thorough I might as well not do it! So I have to be completely in character. I am super satisfied with this 'disfiguring'." * (2012/08/03) Tony Leung Chiu Wai yesterday with Zhou Xun, directors Felix Chong Man Keung and Alan Mak Siu Fai attended the film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) press conference. Mak Siu Fai revealed that Wai Jai placed his Hong Kong Film Awards and Golden Horse Awards randomly. Even his Cannes Best Actor certificate was placed on the floor. Wai Jai was not mad that his secret was revealed, and explained that he did not display the awards neatly together because he did not want to be so blatant. Although he was at home he still was better off being a little more low key. This way each time he made a movie he would feel it would be a new job. He also did not feel that putting the international Cannes Best Actor certificate on the floor was disrespectful. "I put oil paintings on the floor too, respect is in the heart!" Wai Jai after years of making movies did not mind any genre, the only one that he would not make was ghost film. Because when he was little, his family rather enjoyed telling ghost stories. His aunt also liked to take him to see ghost films, so he was very afraid of the dark and ghosts. "For me making a ghost movie is torture. It's like telling me to go on amusement park rides; you might as well tell me to die." Wai Jai was in much better shape. Actually because he had additional shoots for the December release THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI), he only ate oat meals and buckwheat noodles. In the scorching summer heat, he had to put on heavy clothing for 20 degrees below zero Celsius to perform. Very quickly he lost 9 pounds. He revealed that GRAND will shoot until October. For his earlier wedding anniversary he did not return to Hong Kong and celebrate with his wife Carina Lau Ka Ling. "Thus earlier on my birthday we celebrated that too." Earlier when the film PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION (WAT PEI II) was released Zhou Xun did not any promotion. Was she at odds with Vicki Zhao and avoiding direct confrontation with her? Promotional company personnel protected Zhou Xun with the question not being related to SILENT, but Zhou Xun graciously said that it was not a problem for her to answer. Zhou Xun said, "No, we were not at odds. Since the film started production we were speculated to be at odds. As soon as we appeared the talks were endless. Throughout all the endless questions nothing happened." Yet they have not tried shared the stage to promote PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION. Zhou Xun explained that because Zhao Wei had to direct her own movie and she did not expect how strong the PAINTED SKIN RESURRECTION box office would be, so she did not know about the celebration as she was resting. Zhou Xun also admitted that earlier she won a lawsuit and donated the compensation to the United Nations for charity short film production. * (2012/08/03) Ellen Chan Nga Lun worked on Wong Jing's NAKED WEAPON (JUET SIK MO HEI). Before the shoot due to an old kneecap injury she needed surgery and had to go to the set on a wheelchair. Wong Jing designed her character to be a mob big sister, her Dragon Head scepter was a weapon could help her walk. Chan Nga Lun played a "mother class" with co-stars like Jennifer Tse Ting Ting and Ankie Beilke (Bui On Kei) and others. Her costume was sexy and eye catching as well. Mainland fans praised her to be as beautiful as she has always been, Chan Nga Lun said that since she was older she was more suitable to play the big sister. * (2012/08/03) Jennifer Tse Ting Ting and boyfriend Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) worked together on an all new martial art action film. Andy was worried how tough it would be on his girlfriend and they argued about whether to take the role; he never expected Ting Ting to be addicted to it and even intended to work toward becoming an "action actress". Andy went from objecting to fully supporting his girlfriend, as their relationship took another step further; her brother Nicholas Tse Ting Fung was stubborn and silently felt proud of this little sister. Ting Ting and Andy have dated for years. In recent years they have reached the marriage stage. Their first film as a couple NAKED WEAPON (JUET SIK MO HEI) will be officially released on August 23. In the film Ting Ting played a king hearted killer while Andy was a straight laced cop who was responsible for capturing Ting Ting. They were on opposite sides of the law and did not have too many emotional scenes, so they were able to compete in acting. Ting Ting said, "This was my first action film, luckily I didn't have to fight Andy. In the film we only had ambiguous plot lines and didn't have too many romantic scene. The advantage of being able to work together was more time to see each other. Because earlier Andy constantly worked in the Mainland, we didn't have a lot of time together." Ting Ting revealed that Andy originally was concerned about the dangerous and kept objecting against her making action films; when he learned about her officially taking the role, they were in a cooling period for awhile. "He was mad for a long time. I could only gradually convince him. Because his movies have always been dangerous, why did I have to worry about him and he wouldn't let me try it once? Later he gradually accepted it. On the set he saw how much effort I put into learning. He changed to support me fully!" When asked whether he would fully support bed scenes, Andy took a deeply breath and said, "I would, this is her job. As long as she chooses to do it, I would fully support her!" Andy at work met another Ting Ting. He revealed that Ting Ting on the set was very serious, which made him think that he did something wrong to make her mad. "On the set she concentrated on studying the script, camera angles and such. Even when I spoke to her, she would completely ignore her. I could only send text messages to ask whether I did something wrong to make her mad. I really wasn't used to it. Slowly I learned that it was her personality and I admired her professionalism very much." Ting Ting for her first action film not only had to fight but also had to wield weapons; she admitted that she made preparations before hand and learned a lot of actions that was needed for movies. Her brother Ting Fung and Philip Ng Won Lung were both mentors who she could ask for advice from. Ting Ting said that her brother was an expert in fight scenes. Before the shooting she asked her brother for advice and even in the process deeply experienced her brother's love. "When I was training, he would record it with his phone. Once I saw him sharing it with his friends all around, I was pretty embarrassed because I wasn't successfully trained yet. However I was very happy. Actually Brother would feel proud of me and is worried about my work. (Between her brother and Andy who was cooler in action?) Of course Andy, because Brother will always be Brother. You wouldn't fall for him because he was cool. He couldn't be compared with Andy." * (2012/08/02) Artists Chapman To Man Jat and Krystal Tin Yui Nei in the Pang Ho Cheung directed film VULGARIA played a couple. As everyone know they are a loving couple in real life, but in the film they were often at odds. Ah Jat said, "In the film I had an argument scene with Tin Yui Nei. In reality I went to (Charlene) Choi Cheuk Yin's birthday party the night before. I drank and got home late, which made the Old Lady mad. So that scene was a real argument. Even Director Pang Ho Cheung could not help but praise our good acting." In the film Ah Jat played a film producer and had many female stars throwing themselves at him for an opportunity at stardom. Yet also a film producer off screen he never had any female star approach him. He said, "Maybe my old lady is known for being amazing, everyone is shaking just from hearing her name. Who would have the guts to get near my? Do they want to die?" Ah Jat said that in real life his wife gave him 50,000 for a monthly allowance. He was willing to let his old lady "control" his finances. * (2012/08/02) Joey Yung Cho Yi yesterday and Carlos Chan Ka Lok promoted their film DIVA. They in days will go on a eight Mainland city promotional tour. When asked whether she was worried that she would be referred to as box office poison if the film bombed, Joey felt that it did not mind. During the shoot, her mood indeed had very large fluctuation. After a crying scene she was still crying when she returned to her hotel room. Yet when the shoot was done, it seemed to have nothing to do with her. She also knew that now the Hong Kong film box office was very weak so she did not dare to say what the box office would be. She would be satisfied with not losing money. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, AUGUST 8 2012 DUE WEST BATTLES THE NATIONAL DAY SLOT WITH SEX Last year a category III film 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY (3D YUK PO TUEN ji GIK LOK BO GAM) was released on the October 1 National Day holiday in Hong Kong. Many Mainland fans came and set the 41.24 million box office performance, making this slot another Hong Kong film golden slot. This year many films have been scheduled for release during this period, and since the day before this year's National Day would be the Mid Autumn Festival the box office would surely benefit. Among them the internet novel based category III film DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY (YUT LO HEUNG SAI) with a group of pseudo model and the SEX AND ZEN crew will clash with the Stephen Fung Tak Lun and Shu Qi couple team TAI CHI 0. - Lee Sam DUE WEST OUR SEX JOURNEY Release Date: September 20 From the internet joy seeking article to the silver screen, the writer Xiang Xi Haruki Murakami's alternative writing style should be credited. APPLE DAILY, AUGUST 5 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD FOUL LANGUAGE FOR GRIEVANCE RELEASE If you ask director Pang Ho Cheung what sacrifice he has made for film, he probably would answer for someone who does not make dirty movies he took the fall for three category III films. Category III is equivalent to dirty as he becomes a record that cannot be erased in Wikipedia. This time the category III rating is self inflicted. A fine movie on its own, it uses foul language from the beginning to the end and fills human and animal sexual organs. For those who have no idea they may think that they are watching the National Geographic Channel. The director feels foul language since the beginning of the film has been "river crab" (harmonized/censored), this time as a film filler it has deeper meaning. At the same time Pang Ho Cheung says, "The society is full of grievances. Now many people want to X. They can only go to the movies and make irresponsible remarks for release." Since it has a historical mission and can be a release, the film has more functions than a Kinder Surprise Egg. - WAN MAN CHI, CHEUNG CHUN MING Release: August 9 Director Pang Ho Cheung and To Man Jat mentioned that the prelude to making the film was not unusual as it is only based on several simple reasons. Pang Ho Cheung said, "The most important I happen to have the time. Investors don't mind the lack of the Mainland market. Since I have free reins over the screenplay, what is more fun than making a movie like this?" Thus he asked his old partner To Man Jat, wrote the script on the fly as he made the movie to complete this almost crazy vulgar movie that also depicted the blood and tear of film professionals. Since he was doing it he went all out. He did not even come up with a film title and just called it VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET). The stories in the film were all based on real life people and events. Aside from the foul language, it had bestiality as well as exposing how female stars fought to rise. Naturally it could not escape the category III rating. The director expressed that he always felt Hong Kong film had a very unreasonable area. He said, "Even in mob negotiations no one used foul language, some might even more well mannered than me. Why don't you try and put a tape recorder on the streets? In less than a few moments it will be filled with foul language." Thus he was determined to fill the blanked out Hong Kong films of the past with a lost scene -- foul language. Every Word of The Foul Language Culture Has Its History Actually there was another deeper reason. Pang Ho Cheung said, "Lately the society has a lot of grievances. In reality many people want to X but can't X, so they can only go to the movies and make remarks that they don't have to be responsible for." He said that Hong Kong film with foul language was also very ridiculous if it wanted to pass the Hong Kong censorship inspection. He said, "Like (Nick) Cheung Ka Fai in EXODUS (CHOOK AI CUP GEI) X-ing you out of rage is fine, but you can't happily X you. The censor explanation is because happily saying X would make a bad example for kids. Actually this standard is pretty unreasonable." Yet this time the censor strangely did not cut out any scene. In it every word of foul language had an exit, especially with the Ronald Cheng Chung Kei played Guangxi gangster. He used the same foul language vocabulary but the usage was different. He said, "We Hong Kongers mostly like to add the male sex organ in every sentence. They instead like to use the female organ." In addition, Pang Ho Cheung felt that without keeping the Mainland market in mind the creativity was made even more humorous. With all the negative emotions that have disturbed Hong Kong recently, the VULGARIA production was even more meaningful. In particular To Man Jat's personal experience was even more fascinating. Guangxi Fancy Feast Beyond Brutal To Man Jat personally explained, "Before getting into the business I was a debt collector. Once after collecting a big debt the boss was very happy and took us to have wild game cuisine. I told the entire scene to the director. He said that some appropriate changes would be made. I didn't expect the result to only have 2 to 3% change, 97% of what was in the film was my personal experience." In this "Guangxi Fancy Feast" scene, "Guangxi mob boss" Cheng Chung Kei not only forced film producer To Man Jat into bestiality but also into having wild game like "dragon tiger phoenix" (snake, cat, chicken), cow joy (cow sex organ), which was one of the film's climax. The key was whether Ah Jat got intimate with the girl donkey? The film left it for smart people to imagine. Ah Jat also joked, "In reality I just like the movie blacked out. The later scene of recovering my memory was completely the director's creation." Pang Ho Cheung joked that after over a decade in the film industry he has seen many strange encounters that inspired him to mix these subjects into the film. For example the gambling parlor in the guise of a film production was also a real event. He said, "In the past some helped a relative with an illegal gambling parlor operation, he pretended to be a director who was making a movie to prevent police raids." To Man Jat Blasts Traitor Director Hong Kong people and Hong Kong movies have never been many film professionals' cup of tea. VULGARIA returned to the basic and started from the beginning. Ah Jat lamented, "I always say this is very tragic. Hong Kong is where I was born, I grew up here. Are we Hong Kongers not people too? Because now with the Mainland market movies aren't made for Hong Kong people, what does that mean? I remember once I was working with a big director. He had a movie release and someone asked him 'Director how would you like the film to perform at the Hong Kong box office?', he said, 'Hong Kong box office is none of my X business, I only look at the Mainland'. I with my rice box almost wanted to cry behind him. The Hong Kong audience raised you, what do you mean? Now you are rich you are only making movies for Mainlanders, Hong Kong people aren't people. Way to forget where you came from. You can sometimes go back to con some Ren Jai (RMB) and occasionally come back to Hong Kong to make movies. Hong Kong is fishing harbor. From 100 years ago to today when does it rely on people? Why in the recent decade or so we are always thinking that we have to depend on others to be able to eat? We can still rely on ourselves and have our own movies. We may be more vulgar, but it still belongs to us." DaDa Practices Candy Sucking Technique DaDa Chen Jing went from being a pseudo model to a category III comedy. Her costumes were sexy and seductive. In one scene she was poking through while playing video games. DaDa said that before the shoot she already was both mentally and physically prepared. As for the poking look, she thought it was natural. DaDa said, "This scene is about Ah Jat playing games at home, it's very reasonable." Does Not Know How To Hold Chopsticks DaDa in the film needed to perform many oral sex scenes. In the film her character was called Popping Candy because in order to elevate her status she constantly sucked popping candy to service her producer boyfriend To Man Jat. DaDa said that the shoot did not feel embarrassing because she practiced for a long time. She could not help but laugh, "I was practicing because I was afraid the popping candy would leak out." Sex scenes to DaDa were not difficult, instead a chopstick holding scene angered the director so much that he blew up in fits of foul language. DaDa said, "I don't know how to hold chopsticks. When I heard the director said cut out this scene, I felt very useless." Yet after screening viewers thought that DaDa with light make up was even more natural. Her character who sold herself in order to rise was appropriate as well. 3. MING PAO DAILY, AUGUST 5 2012, FILM WORDS LACUNA: FLIMSY STORY The Shawn Yue Man Lok and Zhang Jingchu starred LACUNA (DUET LIU PIN) is also known as JUI HAU YUT YEH (THE NIGHT AFTER DRUNKEDNESS). One of recent films that Pang Ho Cheung produced in the Mainland, its directors are LOVER'S DISCOURSE (LUEN YUN SHUI YU)'s Hong Kong new comers Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and Jimmy Wan Chi Man. Last year I watched their Pang Ho Cheung produced Mainland online short film DEVIL NAIL CLIPPERS (SEI YEH KEI TAM ji JI GAP DOH MOR YUN) that starred Zhou Xun and Lawrence Chou Chun Wai, the performance of which was decent. In LACUNA a couple of strangers sobers up, completing forgetting what happened the night before after drinking. They thus follow the leads and finally confirm that they have both love and luck. This film is made with attention to details, displaying the Beijing trendy night life. The leads are likable and the film also has the lovable "grass mud horse", lazy cat and frog. Unfortunately the story is flimsy and drags on too long, it is far from the madness and fun of the U.S. film THE HANGOVER or the colorful variety of the Pang Ho Cheung written and directed LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN JI YU JI MING). TATSUMI: Style Of Its Own Another alternative film is the Singapore director Eric Khoo (Yau Kam Hoi)'s animation TATSUMI, which adapts Japanese manga talent Yoshihiro Tatsumi's work to the silver screen and includes several manga stories that mainly depict his growth in post war Japan and particularly has reality satire, dark sorrow, materialistic and lustful temptations. Tatsumi's style is somewhat deranged, but this film's animation has a style of its own and is rather unique. - SHEK KEI 4. TA KUNG PAO, JULY 29 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH DEVELOPMENT COUNTIL HELPS NEW DIRECTORS WITH THEIR NEW STEP The Film Development Council earlier announced the adjustment of the Hong Kong film release in the Guangdong Province and the new director film production cost assistance policy, the industry did not respond too much. The topic is worth exploring. First, the idea of Hong Kong movies can be excluded from quota restrictions and be simultaneously released in Cantonese in the Guangdong Province and Hong Kong has two levels. After the Closer Economic Partnership Accord Hong Kong film import into the Mainland is not subject to quotas. Guangdong is a province of China, which should be no exception. As for simultaneous release in Cantonese, it is again divided into two aspects. On the one hand is many Hong Kong films are released in Cantonese in Guangdong, so it is nothing new. As for being simultaneous with Hong Kong, it depends on whether the Film Bureau approves it. Since even just a Guangdong Province release still requires a Film Bureau inspection, why not plan for a co-production for a nationwide release? Co-productions have to be reviewed, imported films also have to review. Imported film quota is lower than co-productions. Even if the accounting rates of Guangdong Province is increased to 25 percent, they are still 15% lower than co-productions. This is why most industry colleagues even without quota restriction are unwilling to make imported films and prefer co-productions. However, the Guangdong Province "opening" to Hong Kong film measures are not completely useless. The living habits of Guangdong and Hong Kong are close, they can relate more to the authentic Hong Kong -produced films. If the review standard can be appropriately adjusted, even when not suitable for nationwide release a film can still be released in the Guangdong Province with film ratings, it would be helpful indeed to Hong Kong films. Whether the implementation is successful or not, it still awaits both the Mainland and Hong Kong's coordination and communication. As for the Film Development Council's increase of the budding film director production subsidy to 40% (non new director funding assistance is 35%) and each film can receive a maximum of HK$4 million, it is not important to the HK$10 million productions. It is important that the Film Development Council knows that it should assist new directors. Over the past few years, the Development Council has come under criticism for not taking special care of new directors. The Development Council actually is funding new directors' movie, but it indeed does not the policy of promoting or training new directors. This time the fifty thousand is regarded as the first step. However, this in essence is a investment "subsidy" that still starts from commercial terms. Many "subsidy" movies after completing production still have not received the Development Council's investment funds, I do not know when it can be improved. Today is the day that "LIGHT SHADOW PATH" bid a temporary farewell to its readers, I wish you all a happy life. Personally I would like to thank colleagues and editors of Ta Kung Pao for all the help and acceptance over the years, I wish you all happy working. - TIN LIK 5. TA KUNG PAO, JULY 22 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH THE "SINS" OF Hong Kong FILM As mentioned last week Mainland newspapers published an article about the "seven sins" of Hong Kong film. The first to the fourth "sins" are respectively "repeating subjects", "the loss of storytelling sincerity", "losing touch with reality" and "Star ensemble films, platters for the sake of platters". The so-called losing touch indeed has taken place. Because the life experience of the creative people in the Mainland may be insufficient, the work unable to successfully integrate into the Mainland public sentiment is commonplace. The remaining "sins" are not exclusive to Hong Kong films. As for the "fifth sin" of Hong Kong directors is "the filmmaking entry check point seems to be nonexistent". The article criticized that due to the mainland market opening, people of different identities such as musicians and intellectuals have entered into the film industry as directors. Unfortunately, more than half of the examples that the author cited were wrong. The musician who he or she mentioned, Frankie Chan Fun Kei, actually has filmed more than ten movies and was not a directing "novices". "Senior media person" Kam Kwok Leung is also a veteran director. The film box office performance and the quality level are sometimes not too related, nothing should be generalized. The impression of this group of "new" director's film quality being mediocre is a subjective point of view. This "sin" about the check point does not match the facts. "Hong Kong director's sixth sins" is "the genre is very monotonous, brainless comedy is the magic weapon". The article criticized several comedy directors, feeling that the audience "deeply despises" brainless comedy" the most. Actually if movie viewers cast aside a certain kind of film the film genre would disappear naturally. For directors who are strong in comedy, invading the market with a population 1.3 billion with their strong suit is a matter of fact. After getting some "sweetness" of course they would keep on coming. If the audience truly "deeply despises", no one would go and watch. This is also not considered a "sin". "The seventh sin" is "Once famous directors, what happened to you?", the meaning of which is directors who have made successful films now perform very well. They bright back things from 20 to 30 years ago without returning to their prime. This "sin" basically is a lack of market principle understanding. The John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) directed FACE/OFF is the continuation of THE KILLER. The invasion of a new market may not necessary require new products. Consumers are not reviewers, they go to the movies for entertainment, not necessarily only a new style will they be popular. Looking at the article "Hong Kong director's seven sin", a lot of information actually is subjective commentary. At the same time it displays the writer's very "partial bias" against several Hong Kong directors' work. Combined with a lack of understanding of Hong Kong directors' history and background, the argument is not rigorous. However the article also has hidden opportunities that are worthy of our consideration, one of which is the "sin" was established due to investors being industry outsiders or non film professional "gold masters"; secondly Hong Kong film directors indeed have no successors. Those who are currently active in show business mostly got into the business in the 80s and the 90s. The director check point was not too low, but perhaps "too high". - TIN LIK 6. TA KUNG PAO, JULY 8 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH HONG KONG FILM FUTURE PROSPECT IS POOR In recent years, the Hong Kong film company's collaborations with the Mainland are still frequent, but for Mainland film companies directly hiring Hong Kong directors to make movies has become a new trend. Often Mainland and Hong Kong companies collaborate due to two incentives. The first is Hong Kong actors are popular and they are often Hong Kong film company contract actors, cooperation is a matter of course. The second is the Hong Kong film industry is experienced with overseas distribution and can be responsible for the film's overseas sales. Unfortunately, these two reasons now seem to no longer exist. Almost all Hong Kong blockbuster actors do not belong to any one company as contract actors (Nicholas Tse Ting Fung is the exception), the Mainland film companies only need to discuss the employment relationship cooperation with the actors or their managers. They do not need to involve investment. As for overseas distribution, Mainland companies have two views. The first is they recognize the importance of overseas distribution, so they establish overseas distribution companies and even hire Hong Kong distribution personnel to handle the business. The second is they recognize the due to the sheer size of the Chinese market, they do not have to rely on overseas markets. They simply sell off the movies to some overseas distributors. The two have driven the Mainland collaboration with Hong Kong film companies incentives to gradually fade. Hong Kong film companies in the future can only put more efforts into developing projects, otherwise market share will be unsustainable. Recently two Mainland funded film productions were released in Hong Kong and both are Hong Kong specialized companies distributed. They are neither Emperor nor Media Asia because they have no Hong Kong investor. One is the Gordon Chan Ka Seung directed THE FOUR (SEI DAI MING BO) and the other is the Wuershan directed PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION (WAT PEI 2). Director Chan's team is from Hong Kong and the film can be regarded as a Hong Kong film. The Wuershan directed one has all Mainland actors, only action director Stephen Tung Wai and photography director Arthur Wong Ngok Tai are Hong Kong people. Whether from the definitions of the Hong Kong Film Awards or the Motion Picture Industry Association, PAINTED SKIN RESURRECTION is not Hong Kong films. Because filmmakers see Hong Kong film's future prospects are lacking, some have vigorously publicized making more movies with Hong Kong characteristics. In addition because of the recent Hong Kong film box office success of A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH), LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) and MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU), the call to make Hong Kong movies have become even more prevalent. Yet all three performed flatly in the Mainland, conceivably only LOVE was able to earn a good profit. Where is the Hong Kong film headed in the future? It is a long-term issues. What are the strengths of Hong Kong filmmakers? It is their flexibility. In addition to embracing the mainland market, they should take notice that the present Hong Kong audience groups are different from the past. They should not think Hong Kong-style films are the most popular in Hong Kong. The record breaking YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE is a good example. Theater-goers seem to be without the burden of the filmmakers. Finally, the Film Development Fund that was established five years ago, indeed has "subsidized" more than 20 films (basically investing in them). There of course is a lot of room for improvement, the most important thing is to ensure that funds are available before the wrap. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] MY SASSY HUBBY Can : Ngor Lo Por Ng Gau Ching 2 Ngor Lo Gung Ng Sun Sing Lit : My Old Lady Is Under Weight 2: My Hubby Is Out Of His Nature Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi, Wylie Chiu Shek Chi, Izz Xu (Tsui Ching Hei) Can : Oi Ching Dat Yun Anita Yuen Wing Yi, Nelson Cheung Hok Yun, Edward Chui Woai Dong, Qiu Xinzhi, Naomi LOVE IS......PAJAMAS AKA : LOVE IS......PYJAMAS Can : Nam Yun Yu Yi Fok Lit : Men Are Like Clothes d. UPCOMING MOVIES Tuesday, AUGUST 28, 2012 @ 7pm UNBOWED (2011) When it opened in late 2011, Unbowed’s uninhabited take on a highly-publicized true story caused such a stir that Korea’s Ministry of Justice and Supreme Court even chimed in, noting its wild inaccuracies. It turns out that sensationalizing the story of university professor who accosts a judge with a crossbow doesn’t go over well with governmental bodies…but thankfully, film fans love it, as this courtroom thriller – buffeted by the media uproar – became one of last year’s biggest Korean hits. AHN Sung-Ke, one of his country’s most respected international actors, delivers a bravado performance as the bow-slinging everyman while R-Point’s Park Won-Sang delivers a one-in-a-lifetime role as the struggling lawyer pushed to save him. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 @ 7pm THE CLIENT (2011) Hotshot attorney KANG Sung Hee (The Chaser star HA Jung-woo) has been called upon to defend Han (JANG Hyuk), an enigmatic, strange man accused of killing his wife. Although her body hasn’t been recovered, the public is quick to label him a monster and begs the court system for a guilty verdict. Determined to prevail, Kang works closely with his mysterious defendant, but they’re chased at every turn by the public – and Kang’s rival, a vicious prosecutor with his own agenda. A blockbuster in its native Korea, this nailbiter will have you guessing until its final, jaw-dropping moments.
