Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun worked together on the film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH). When two good actors met, of course they set off a lot of sparks. Directors Mak Siu Fai and Chong Man Keung earlier in an interview revealed their "secret" from the collaboration! The smart looking Zhou Xun sometimes would be a little baffled. Chong Man Keung said, "Zhou Xun can never differentiate me from Mak Siu Fai. Once she thought she called Mak Siu Fai but she called me instead. She and I chatted until the phone ran out of battery. APPLE DAILY, JULY 29 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD ALAN MAK SIU FAI, FELIX CHONG MAN KEUNG LURES TONY ELUNG CHIU WAI INTO ASKING FOR JOBS The INFERNAL AFFAIRS (MO GAN DOH) and OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG WON) film series involved high technology. Inside the bottle is all the scheming and feuding human darkness. This time Tony Leung Chiu Wai teams up with Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung and heavily uses the Morse Code on the co-production THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH). The movie has a conspiracy, anti-espionage, surveillance, and spy war, bringing INFERNAL AFFAIRS and OVERHEARD into one. Even so, actually all the technology is a disguise, the structure revolves around the love between the film's four leads. In reality Directors Mak and Chong often lured Best Actor Leung Chiu Wai into "asking for jobs". He was even willing to play blind and put away his electrifying eyes, the style had even more authentic flavor than Wai Jai's Wing Chun. Release Date: August 10 Directors Mak Siu Fai and Chong Man Keung earlier was interviewed for their new film THE SILENT WAR at Central. SILENT was based on the Mainland novelist May Jia. Those who are strangers to May Jia might have an idea about his work when his other novel THE MESSAGE was mentioned. The original story involved surveillance and intelligence, which were extremely fitting to Mak and Chong's tastes. Naturally it became the subject of their film, just in time for the INFERNAL AFFAIRS' tenth anniversary. Seemingly Rewriting The Story As for rewriting the story and independent creation, two directors said that basically the operation was the same. Mak Siu Fai joked, "Actually it wasn't hard at all because the film was very different from the original work. We changed 70 to 80% already, it was almost an all new creation. Of course we spoke with May Jia and obtained his permission. At first he was surprised but after reading the script he was very satisfied. A lot of the plot required to keep the sense and the pace of film in mind. May Jia joked that the film screenplay could be adapted into a novel." Chong Man Keung felt that creators should not be a stickler on whether it was an adaptation or original creation, as long as the story was good it was fine. However as the Mainland film industry grew, problems that followed brought a lot of impact. They felt that filmmakers had to face and resolve more and more problems. Chong Man Keung said, "Working in the Mainland people often said that we were obstructing traffic. Either we shot very early or very late. In addition the cost of shooting there has risen more and more. If we wanted to make a small budget film, we could not without 40 million." The cost increased but most of the budget was spent on actors, making the production budget and the actor salary out of proportion. Often the production ha to be compressed to adjust and affected quality. Mak and Chong felt that right now this was the problem that needed attention, otherwise Chinese film would have a very hard time overseas. Self Admitted Strange Directors This time working with Leung Chiu Wai and playing the INFERNAL AFFAIRS Morse Code old tune, they more or less had a little parody flavor. Actually their parody did not stop that, even more ridiculous was that they wanted Leung Chiu Wai to play blind. He often had to work with sunglasses, only acting without his eyes was good acting. However looking back at history Wai Jai was not the only superstar to be parodied. Mak and Chong joked that Wai Jai during the shoot was so in character that once he confused himself. Chong Man Keung said, "One scene was shot in a bamboo forest with a lot of trees. Zhou Xun led and he followed, but Wai Jai kept walking toward the sharp branches without stopping. Luckily Zhou Xun was alert and brushed it away for him. Later Wai Jai said that he did not know what happened, at that moment he seemed to be really blind. He didn't notice the danger." Working for the fourth time with Wai Jai in the past ten years, Mak Siu Fai admitted, "We have a lot of movies that we wanted Wai Jai for because we basically are very close friends. Outside work we would met and have dinner. We would tell him what we were working on, and kept luring him in with the story." This time they succeeded lured in Wai Jai, Chong Man Keung said that a huge reason was basically they were not able to work together last time. "Actually at the time Wai Jai read the first OVERHEARD (SIT TING) script. The characters were all different then, but the timing was wrong as he was still working on THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI). After the film was released and he watched it, he immediately asked us about OVERHEARD 2 and would we ask him to take part. However he probably was joking and luring us back." Wai Jai Often Blames Them Chong Man Keung also said that Wai Jai more than once "blamed" them for not asking him to perform. "After watching ONCE A GANGSTER (FEI SA FUNG SHUEN JUEN) he asked us to dinner again and asked again why I didn't ask him to make this movie. He also said that this type of movies was his favorite, who knew whether he was for real or joking." Best Actor Wai Jai often "asked for jobs", which absolutely was a recognition of them. The film THE SILENT WAR revolves around the 701 Intelligence Room, which after the civil war was the Mainland special agency responsible for Taiwan intelligence. Over 50 people sat inside the large intelligence room. Their responsibility was to follow and find Taiwan channels as soon as possible and translate them into Morse Code. Hong Kong Display The properties of the 50s naturally were very low tech, but at the time it was breaking the enemy's secret organization. The information room from 60 years ago would be rebuilt in Hong Kong and be on display starting August 1 in Tsim Sha Tsui LCX shopping center, bringing back how the special agents and spy war operated without micro cameras, heat sensors and micro transceiver equipment. Romance Chapter: Zhou Xun Turns Down Wai Jai THE SILENT WAR story took place in the early Communist China. The intelligence room suddenly lost contact with Taiwan. In order to find outstanding eavesdroppers, agency member Zhang Xuening (Zhou Xun) found the blind He Bing. With his hearing that exceeded the average person's, in days he found over 50 lost enemy stations and became an overnight hero. Intelligence Mishap He Bing had love for Xuening but was rejected. MING PAO DAILY, JULY 29 2012, FILM WORDS WU DANG: ENTERTAINING ACTION, ROUGH REASONING Among new Chinese film releases is the Patrick Leung Pak Kin directed, Chan Han written WU DANG (DAI MO DONG), which stars Vincent Zhao Wenzhuo, Mini Yang Mi, Louis Fan Siu Wong, Xu Jiao, Dennis To Yu-Hang and others. The story took place during a Republic era Mount Wu dang martial art contest that involves a treasure hunting plot and several romances. The entire film has the 80s Hong Kong big martial art movie nostalgic feel. Action director Corey Yuen Kwai's action designs remained entertaining. Several martial art duels were exciting. The "sleeping kung fu" was also exceptional. Unfortunately the story reasoning was rough. This type of production method was inevitably outdates. If viewers did not ask for too much, the movie could be considered average. Kung Fu fans would not be disappointed but they would be less than satisfied. APPLE DAILY, JULY 28 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD SUMMER ANIMATION RIVALRY Every summer a big pile of animated films would definitely line up for release to attract the entire family and students on summer vacation. This summer's major animated features include Pixar's BRAVE, MADAGASCAR 3, DOREAMON: NOBITA AND THE ISLAND OF MIRACLES, Hong Kong domestic animation THE PORK OF MUSIC (MCDULL DING DONG BOON NGOR SUM) to the category III rated TATSUMI, something for everyone. THE PORK OF MUSIC Release Date: August 16 Hong Kong domestic animation MCDULL this summer releases its fifth movie THE PORK OF MUSIC. This time it plays with heavy flavor as McDull's biological parents Brian Tse Lap Man and Alice Mak Ka Bik gave it a god father -- Hong Kong comic book creator Yeung Hok Tak. Yeung Hok Tak excels in illustrating some strange and grass root figures. He in the new film adds a big group of heavy flavor little friends for McDull. In the story McDull's Chun Tin Fa Fa Kindergarten is in a dire financial crisis as it is in danger of closing. Although the alumni are rather strange, their singing is actually like a miracle. Chun Tin Fa Fa this time is saved. DOREAMON: NOBITA AND THE ISLAND OF MIRACLES Release Date : July 26 Doreamon has been a money cat that we grew up with. This time the film version has new gadgets like the light glue, air crayon, sound coagulant and magic storm fan. In the story Nobita asks Doreamon to return to New Zealand 500 years ago to capture an already extinct beetle but accidentally catches an extinct Moa. In order to protect the giant bird, this pair can travel through time and space again and send it to the island where extinct animals gather. They run into Nobita's father as a child and together they protect this Island of Miracles. ONE PIECE X TORIKO 3D Release Date: July 26 Even Takuya Kimura admits to be a fan of ONE PIECE. The theatrical version reaches its 11th film ONE PIECE 3D: STRAW HAT CHASE and finally turns 3D to bring Luffy's trademark punches to the audience. Luffy's straw hat vanishes and he madly looks for it everywhere. Chopper and Usopp rescues an old pirate and discover the shocking story that hides inside the straw hat. The co-feature is the rising in popularity TORIKO 3D: GOURMENT ADVENTURE!
