Wai Jai in the film played He Bing as his electrifying eyes turned gray. Directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung and the original author May Jia were interviewed. MING PAO DAILY, JULY 8 2012, FILM WORDS VAMPIRE HUNTER LINCOLN IS NO MATCH FOR PAINTED SKIN DEMONS One Chinese and one foreign special effect supernatural martial art action big productions face off. I have little to nothing expectation for the Mainland Chinese box office hit PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION (WAT PEI 2) but am somewhat curious about the foreign film ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER. Because even if it is an odd and absurd parody, honestly foreign goods are often better than domestic goods. Yet after viewing the feeling is just the opposite. I never expect the former to perform decently while the latter greatly disappoints. PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION -- Face Changing Heroic Duo After watching the out of control ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER, PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION is much better. Once upon a time a beautiful fox demon (Zhou Xun) is resurrected after several centuries of being locked inside an icy hell and has another adventure, as she, a disfigured princess (Vicki Zhao Wei) and a sharp shooting general (Chen Kun) develop a love triangle. Aside from the fox demon, the plot and the characters are completely different from the previous installment. This time it wonderfully depicts how the demon wants to become human and the human want to become the demon, thus they make an exchange that is even more complicated than Faust's soul selling. It also adapts the John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) modern masculine FACE/OFF into a costume feminine "face changing heroic duo". Mogolian director Wuershan rose to fame with advertising. Last year his first film THE BUTCHER, THE CHEF, AND THE SWORDSMAN utilized a butcher knife to create three strange martial art tales, alternative yet very satirical. I did not like it. PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION demonstrates that Wuershan's handling of a mainstream commercial film, which achieves fantasy mystery in an orderly fashion. No matter how it imitates the superficiality of foreign films like 300, the special effect quality remains quite far from Hollywood super productions. Fortunately it displays different specialty between Chinese and foreign films. The visuals are sharp on the eye, the intense story also takes fun twists and is considered charming from the beginning to the end. Of course, in the film Zhou Xun is not considered an absolute beauty. Zhao Wei does not truly play ugly either. Thus the soul and flesh conflicts actually are not convincing enough. Yet their performance has emotions and shapes. Chen Kun's acting is average but fortunately he is made to look like a wonderful archer. In addition the demon hunter Feng Shaofeng and the little bird fairy Mini Yang Mi's romance, just like THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE (BAK SEH SUN JUEN)'s disciple Wen Zhang and Green Snake Charlene Choi Chuek Yin, brings the same type of humor. Actually last year's SORCERER was interesting, but PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION overall is more entertaining. (four out of five stars) LATE AUTUMN -- Contrived And Pretentious Kim Tae-Yong's South Korean film remake LATE AUTUMN changes its backdrop to Seattle in the U.S. Tang Wei plays a female Chinese prisoner who takes time from her sentence to attend a funeral and runs into an on the run Korean gigolo Hyun Bin. This film is under suspicion of being contrived and pretentious, but it has parts with unique style. Although it is not a proper work, at least some of the acting and the directing are worth appreciating. (three out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 2. APPLE DAILY, JULY 7 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD THE ONLY SELLING POINT LEFT FOR LAN KWAI FONG 2 IS SEX Central's Lan Kwai Fong is Hong Kong's night spot holy land. The stories that happen there can be written in several movies. Since the Wilson Chin Kwok Wai directed film LAN KWAI FONG (HEI OI YEH PO) depicts a story night owls can relate to, its box office performance is better than expected and a sequel is already the definite direction. LAN KWAI FONG 2 is again Chin Kwok Wai who may as well live in Lan Kwai Fong directed. Starting with four couples' interaction in Old Lan, the film sells even more passionate shots than the previous film. In it Chrissie Chau Saun's boyfriend Avis and Ma Model Mia's bed scene is even the film's biggest selling point. - HO WING NING Release Date: August 23 Kelvin Kwan X Shiga Lin: Getting Wet Appearing in the previous film and receiving a Hong Kong Film Award Best New Actor nomination, Shiga Lin Si Nga again has a part in this film. A night owl in real life as well, Lin Si Nga cannot be more familiar with the portrayal. In the film she is paired with the Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu played young and successful photographer. Although in terms of the silver screen passion index although it is not as daring as Avis and Mia's, but as singers they lose themselves in the wet bathroom battle. The passion is on par if not surpasses the previous installment. Afterward they describe the production as shooting from dry to wet, then from wet to dry again. They become a couple due to this film and extend the passion from it. Dominic Ho X Matsuoka: Stop At a Peck LAN 2 advertises the philosophy of lust. Dominic Ho Ho Man and Linah Matsuoka reflect a more sensible couple whose pure love stops at a peck. Playing a cop Dominic every night patrols Lan Kwai Fong, but he despises this place. One night he meets female DJ Linah Matsuoka. They start from a police patrol log book.
