Earlier when the Johnnie To classic poll was announced, RUNNING OUT OF TIME (UM JIN) was the internet favorite. Yet To Kei Fung said that his favorite was his 2000 Hong Kong Film Award Best Director winning MISSION (CHEUNG FOR). He said, "When I made this film the Hong Kong film industry was at its bottom. My budget was only HK$2.5 million, the equipment was only rented for 18 days. As from Lam Suet could have bad takes with firing a gun, others like (Anthony) Wong Chau Sun, (Francis) Ng Chun Yu were asked not to have any bad take." Speaking of the constant collaboration between Chinese and Hong Kong actors and filmmakers, To Kei Fung admitted, "Now actors are so expensive, workers are expensive too, clothing, props, anything is expensive, but Hong Kong film productions have difficulty with budgets of 10 million. Thus we can only co-produce." * (2012/05/16) Internet writer Xiang Xi Haruki Murakami sold his online novel DONGGUAN FOREST rights. 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY (3D YUK PO TUEN ji GIK LOK BO GAM) writer Wu Yiu Fai will direct for the first time DONG's film adaptation YUT LO HEUNG SAI (ONE ROAD TO THE WEST), which will start production in a few days for a October 1 National Day release. Mainland comrades will be able to come to Hong Kong. Earlier pseudo model Jeana Ho Pui Yu will played the prostitute who resembled Charlie Yeung Choi Nei, Siu Si. Yet her family could not accept the sensitive character. The film company was interested in casting Jeana as the fake boob girl. Once revealing that she had breast enlargement operation she reportedly was afraid of her sore spot and quit. Jeana has declined to respond. The lead actor for the film was also hard to find. Recently Xiang Xi suggested to the film company Justin Cheung Kin Sing, who reportedly will perform full frontal nudity. Gregory Wong Chung Hiu will play his friend. As for female lead Siu Si and other prostitutes Xiang Xi intended on choosing from Japanese adult video actresses and Taiwan amateurs. * (2012/05/16) The Raymond Wong Pak Ming produced, Vincent Kok Tak Siu directed new film NAM YUN YU YI FOK (MEN ARE LIKE CLOTHES) yesterday held a production start ceremony in Wong Chuk Hang. Attending actors included Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam), Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Raymond Lam Fung and Karena Ng Chin Yu. Hung Doi Lam was caught with a 3 karat diamond ring from boyfriend Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and would allegedly register their marriage in Australia this year. Lynn at first practiced Tai Chi and said, "In these few years I have been married many times." When asked about the August wedding, Lynn said, "It will not be so soon but it will not be as long as four years. It won't be in this year. I still have a lot of work, you should ask him!" Has her boyfriend already proposed? Lynn thought for awhile and said, "When I get married I definitely will tell everyone." As for the ring, Lynn responded, "How do you know it's three karat, you can tell just from looking? It's from him, every girl likes rings." Was it an engagement ring? Lynn stressed, "Until the final day I still don't know whether I will get married, wait until I do. If anything changes I really won't know what to do." Lynn revealed that after completing this film she still has a lot of work, but she will take more time to spend with her family. Was it as reported that because her father had cancer they had to wed for good luck? Lynn said that she would not publicly discuss her family's health and would not use her own happiness as a tool for luck. Lynn received the media's advanced marriage well wishes. She could not hide her joy and said, "Wish me finding my clothes sooner and I can wear it comfortably for a lifetime." Cheng Chung Kei said that later he will work in the Mainland, he perhaps will be apart from his daughter and wife for awhile. He said, "I feel a little reluctant, but I can't bring them to work either. I can only finish work as soon as possible and come back." Cheng Chung Kei said, they only went out for a simple meal on Mother's Day and hoped that this year he will be able to return to Hong Kong for his first Father's Day. Lam Fung at the event received six pairs of underwear from Lynn. He said, "Once due to the heat the disposable underwear melted and only the edges were left. I believe later when we will shoot in Zhejiang I will need 60 pairs, because it's very hot there." * (2012/05/16) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Charlie Yeung Choi Nei earlier appeared on a TVB Entertainment News channel exclusive interview to talk in detail about their new film FLOATING CITY (FAU SING). Aaron and Charlie after the film AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (FU JI) played a couple again in the new film FLOATING CITY. This time they had to play from age 20 to 60. Charlie thought that playing an old couple was particularly fun because she has not yet experienced that in her life. She was able to project a lot of imagination into the character. Aaron pointed out that this time he would not have old make up and would only through his looks and the complexity inside to express his emotions. Charlie revealed that in the film he played a boat person. He not only had to learn Tanka but also had to have a dark tan. Because they spent a lot of time on the boat, they rarely had hair care habit. For her character, she had extensions on her soft short hair. Aaron joked that her hair was very fluffy. The always cool Aaron also dropped his image for the new film as he performed without make up. Due to the sun, after the shoot he was surprised to find that his skin was worse and his face had several more wrinkles. Playing a man whose birth parents' whereabouts were unknown and was raised by his adopted mother, he said that he not only experienced how adopted mother was greater than birth mother but also cherished everyone around him more. * (2012/05/15) Anthony Wong Chau Sun in August will star in the Herman Yau Lai To directed film IP MAN -- JUNG GIK YUT JIN (IP MAN -- FINAL BATTLE). Chau Sun who will play Ip Man has already begun preparation half a year ago as he studied Wing Tsun with Sin Kwok Lam. Yesterday Chau Sun went to Sin Kwok Lam's Wanchai gym to practice Wing Tsun. Chau Sun was very focused and looked very convincing. Sin Kwok Lam praised Chau Sun and did not know about his martial art background. When he studied Wing Tsun it came easily to him as he improved rapidly; the action scenes in the film would not be difficult for him. Many actors have played Ip Man, Chau Sun admitted that he was not afraid of comparison and even joked that earlier Tony Leung Chiu Wai "challenged" him! Chau Sun said, "I ran into Leung Chiu Wai in the Mainland, he asked me if I would play Ip Man. I said yes, he immediately made a kung fu pose to challenge me. I wouldn't fight him though. I am mild mannered, I wouldn't fight randomly. As soon as I fight someone dies!" What Chau Sun referred to started with director Yau Lai To. Chau Sun said, "He knew when I was working on a movie in Africa, workers argued over an affair. I went over to mediate and finally someone insulted my mother with foul language. As soon as I heard it I exploded and knocked out the person with one punch." * (2012/05/15) 50 year old Andy Lau Tak Wa finally became a father last week! His 46 year old wife Chu Lai Sin gave birth to a daughter. For days many media outlets waited outside the hospital but Wa Jai maintained his low profile and did not respond to the media announcement of the good news. Wa Jai's fans patiently waited for the announcement, finally yesterday morning Wa Jai on his official site left a message entitled "Everything is fine". Wa Jai first thanked the media and said that he and his wife have already safely returned home. Wa Jai then left message for his fans who were like family to him and happily told everyone that he has completed a week of first level papa course and will turn from boss to old dad. This week he will try to be a good husband and papa. He also revealed his endless joy. Wa Jai in the past would leave messages on his official site to communicate with his fans. Yesterday afternoon he left a message of "everything is fine". "Safely returned home, just want to tell everyone that we are safe. I didn't include everyone, which everyone can sympathize with. I have received the concern and well wishes of everyone, and I am truly very appreciative. Friends of the media all love me. I have been busy and didn't provide the news that everyone care about right away, I am sorry for making everyone wait. You care but you didn't push, curious but didn't force, I am very appreciated and very touched. Wa Jai." Wa Jai's message to the media did not provide detail about becoming Papa. He only told everyone that he has already returned home and thanked everyone for their understanding. Yet Wa Jai left another message for his fans, telling how becoming a Papa this week felt. This new papa seemed to rather enjoy the life and told fans that both the mother and the daughter are safe. Yet he stated that he would not post photos of his daughter and believed that fans would understand. Many fans saw Wa Jai's message and left messages of well wishes. They also wished good health for "Big Sister in Law" Chu Lai Sin and the baby. Everyone was happy for Wa Jai. "Sorry for making my family wait so long. Big Brother has become Old Dad. A week of first stage Papa course has been completed. Today we have been released from the hospital and returned home. Coming back here, everything seems real. Thank you family for your well wishes over the days. Both mother and daughter are safe, we are happy! During this period, I try: not to treat myself like someone in show business; I try: not to be distracted to reply to this person and that...... I try: to be very focused, to be a dutiful husband; I try: to be patient and learn the responsibility of being a father. Although having to be a good Big Brother, Husband and Father is very hard!! Yet I get endless joy and freedom from it!!! I am not going to post any photo! I think my family would understand. As for the rest, I will save it for face to face! Wa Jai." * (2012/05/15) The film FIRST TIME leads Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) after lead actress Angelababy sang a song for the film CRY LIKE A CHILD, the video of which held a press conference yesterday. Chiu Yau Ting and the song writer and co-star Cindy Yen (Yuen Wing Lam) shared the recording experience and played games with fans. His topless in the water with Baby poster was unveiled, which made female fans screamed. Chiu Yau Ting admitted that for this romance he had many first time experience. Singing the theme song was a new attempt. It was also the first time that he posted for a topless poster in the water under six degrees below zero Celsius temperature. He said that he was wondering why he had to shoot a topless poster in the winter chill! Director Han Yan seriously responded that photographer Wing Shya (Ha Wing Hong) should address the question. Chiu Yau Ting described the poster was shot on a very mysterious day. They were dressed when they got to the seaside, but Ha Wing Hong suddenly asked Baby to change into a white tee shirt and him to be topless. Although it was his first topless poster, Chiu Yau Ting did not mind. Instead he was worried that baby would catch a cold. He admired her for following the order without any hesitation and being very professional. Earlier after Baby's song SMILE, OK? premiered, it was in the top three in hit rate on many music sites. This time everyone was full of confidence in Chiu Yau Ting's CRY LIKE A CHILD; he revealed that he spent two days and nights to record this song. He was not a singer so it was very hard. He said that he did not know how to sing as he recorded. The lyrics and the music motivated his emotions and he cried several times. Has his girlfriend Gao Yuanyuan heard this song and seen his topless poster? Has Yuanyuan seen this film? Chiu Yau Ting said awkwardly, "The question about seeing the movie......I think she probably did." * (2012/05/14) Close friends Kelvin Kwan Chor Yiu and Shiga Lin Si Nga are paired together in the Wilson Chin Kwok Wai directed new film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2), which has many passionate scenes. He even joked that he was making an "action film". He never expected that after only a few days at work they not only have already shot a kiss scene but also a "car rocking" scene two nights ago at Central! Lin Si Nga in the car spread her legs in the car and step over Kelvin's head. Then she just sat on his lap. Although Lin Si Nga was still new in film, she was in full control and did not hold back. The shoot attracted such a large crowd that it once caused a traffic jam. Actually Kelvin and Lin Si Nga have already known each other for seven or eight years. Because they were too familiar, they agreed that they were worried how awkward the intimate scenes would be. Yet he was "licensed" and not worried about his girlfriend's jealousy. "She said that the first film did so well at the box office, why wouldn't I take it. She wanted to go to the movies to see how daring it is, so I have less baggage." Because in the film he needed to be topless, lately he has been busy "pumping up" at the gym. As for Christine Kuo's resignation, Kelvin felt it was regrettable and hoped that they would have a chance to work together in the future. Lin Si Nga admitted that this time had more revealing scenes than the first film. "I am considering using a double for the more extreme spots. (Are you afraid that your boyfriend would be jealous?) I don't have a girlfriend. I just want to wait until I am more mature before I handle these scenes." Because the last film earned her a Hong Kong Film Award nomination, she was more confident about the film industry and hoped that she would like to make more movies. The best would be the chance to become an action actress or play someone with personality split. * (2012/05/14) Yesterday was Mother's Day, Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Charlie Yeung Choi Nei promoted their film FLOATING CITY (FAU SING). Sing Sing said that he has already booked a place to celebrate with his mother and family but did not invite girlfriend Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam). Charlie worked for over 20 hours two days ago and her mother asked her not to celebrate so she could go home and get some sleep, which warmed her heart. Director Yim Ho along with FLOATING CITY actors Sing Sing, Charlie and Calvin Cheng Ka Sing attended the promotion. They not only shared their production experience but also reprised their characters' everyday life habits, as they rowed and caught fish. The most memorable scene for Sing Sing was to do laundry and cook while carrying a baby. Because during the shoot the child kept on crying, he felt very stressed. Yet he remembered when he was a little how his mother carried him. Playing a Tanka woman Charlie in order to play the fisherman character convincingly went swimming and under the tanning light to get darker. Sing Sing joked that she was the "chocolate jade girl" and thought that she just went to a barbecue. They both agreed that Tanka was very hard to learn. Sing Sing was very excited on the stage and kept making humorous poses. Why was he so excited? He pointed out that yesterday was Mother's Day, everyone had to be happy. He also said that at night he would celebrate with Mommy at dinner and even planned to give a diamond watch from a watch event that he attended earlier to Mommy. Will girlfriend Lynn join them? He played dumb and asked, "Which Lynn?" He also said that he and his family including his sister, nephew and niece will have dinner together without other friend. What did he give Lynn's mother? He opened his hands and smiled in reply. Was Lynn no longer a part of the family? Sing Sing said that he would not talk about anything else and revealed that during the shoot he and his younger brother were carrying water. Because it was very hot, they put their feet in the water to stay cool. Yet because his brother's feet was very light unlike his character's, he spray on a very dark tan for him. As soon as he got into the water though the color dissolved and they joked it was athlete's feet. How would Charlie celebrate Mother's Day? She said that two days ago she worked for over 20 hours. Yesterday morning when she called Mommy to wish her a "Happy Mother's Day", Mommy immediately said to her that they did not have to celebrate at dinner that night. She told her to go home and sleep, which warmed her heart. She asked everyone not to just care about Mommy on Mother's Day but more so at other times as well. * (2012/05/14) The Angelababy starred romance FIRST TIME was released on June 8. Two days ago she and director Han Yan and another actress Cindy Yen (Yuen Wing Lam) promoted in Shanghai. While Baby was playing a game with the students on stage, a male student hug her by surprise. She was scared out of her wits and could only awkwardly smile. Baby finally felt the power of the students. Because lead actor Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) could not attend, Baby and Yuen Wing Lam put an extra effort. They played with the students on the stage. They not only sang but also played with bubbles to reprise a romantic scene with Baby and Chiu Yau Ting in the film. They never expected that during the student hand shake segment, a male student would suddenly hug her. She was caught off guard and scared out of her mind as she could only smiled. Even the host was stunned and immediately separated Baby and the student. The student was so happy after hugging the goddess that he was leaping for joy, he then immediately knelt in front of Baby to apologize for his inappropriate behavior. Baby smiled and said, "That's fine, stay cool, I was only worried that everyone would get hurt." Baby said that the first school event felt great, she did not expect the students to be so passionate. As for the sudden hug, She said, "At the time I really didn't know what to do, I could only smile. I was the first time I ran into something like this. The feeling of the hug was my chin hit his head and hurt a little. If he was a little gentler then it's better!" Aside from games, Baby and Yuen Wing Lam sang songs from the movie. Although Baby was not a singer her performance was steady. She even received flowers and applause from the students to cheer her on. Baby honestly said that she was nervous about her first public performance. Because she sang live she did not want anything embarrassing to happen. Thus a week before she already memorized the lyrics and kept practicing. "Just now I was able to rather smoothly sang the lyrics without missing a word, I am pretty satisfied!" Romantic scenes of her and Chiu Yau Ting were also played. Students kept cheering especially when they saw their bubble scene. Baby revealed that Chiu Yau Ting had a tough time with this scene. She said, "I was mainly responsible for blowing bubbles. He had to keep chasing the bubbles I made and blowing on them to cheer me up. During the process he kept on falling down or turning over backward to chase the bubbles. He was sweating bullets. We said that the romance required physicality to complete like an action!" * (2012/05/13) Taiwan artists Ella Chen Chia-Hua, Mike Ho (Hor Kwan Cheung) two nights ago promoted their new film BAD GIRLS. Ella just wed last week and earlier already rushed to Hong Kong to promote her new film. When reportedly she rushed to return to pay her mortgage, her face darkened as she said, "It's not because of that, who says you can't work after marriage?" Ella and Siu Mei played games with fans. Siu Mei greeted fans in Cantonese. "Hong Kong Friends how are you!" Some fans used muffins to spell out Ella's name as a gift for their newlywed idol. Ella immediately tried it but said, "The muffin is too dry, next year you can add a little more water." Even though Ella was all smiles during the event, when Ella saw reporters she did not force a smile and asked the media not to ask about her marriage. "Today is already my second day in Hong Kong. With the tight schedule and a flu, I don't feel well and can't muster up the energy." When asked whether her husband was displeased that she immediately came to promote in Hong Kong after their wedding, she said, "I still have to work, Hubby didn't really say anything in particular." Speaking of Ella reportedly had to pay mortgage so she returned to work soon after her wedding. Ella said, "It's not because of that, who says after marriage I can't work?" As for BAD, Ella said that the film has already been released in Taiwan and the response was decent. She said that in the film she had many fight scenes, but her co-star Siu Mei was a nice guy in the film so she was reluctant to hit him. Ella also said that she took a few martial art lessons for the fight scenes. During the shoot when she had time she would study with the instructor. Finally although she was hurt a little her injury was not too severe. Would her husband's heart ache for her? Siu Mei helped out and said, "Her hubby has always known how tough Ella's job is, of course his heart aches!" * (2012/05/13) Leo Ku Kui Ke, William Chan Wai Ting, Sherman Chung Shu Man, Mag Lam Yun Tung, Nick Cheung Ka Fai and other Emperor artists two nights ago attended boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing's bar opening ceremony. Mr. Yeung's long time friends Jackie Chan, Patrick Tse Yin, Nat Chan Pak Cheung and Wong Hung Sau came in support. William is staying in Hong Kong to work on his new film TRIAD (JAT JIK). In the film he got beaten up everyday but he still has not have a chance to hit anyone. He said for this film he had to go to the emergency room for breathing difficulties. William said, "At the time I lost consciousness and blacked out for a few minutes from the beating scene, then I worked on a rain scene without any shirt and caught a cold. When I slept I could not breathe and went to the emergency room." He pointed out that the doctor explained that he was sick because of tracheal contraction. William proclaimed that he has already finished all his beating scenes. Did his girlfriend Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin's heart ache for him? He said, "Lately I haven't seen my girlfriend, so she would probably learn about my beating scenes from the newspapers." Will he make less fight scenes from now on? He said that he will not. "(Nicholas Tse) Ting Fung's fight scenes are ten times mine, I just started. I will treat my elder as my goal." * (2012/05/13) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu two nights ago was late to the latest MCDULL animated film to provide her voice. She explained that her daughter was acting up. Her good friend Andy Lau Tak Wa has been rumored to be a father already. Although Wai Jai has not confirmed the news yet, Kwan Yu said that she has already sent a congratulatory text message. He still has not responded to it yet. Instead Mrs. Lau Chu Lai Sin replied to Kwan Yu's text message. Recently Chu Lai Sin was rumored to have already given birth to a "little Dragon girl", but father wa Jai has not officially announced the good news. Even his good friend Eric Tsang Chi Wai has no idea whether it was real or not. Kwan Yu said, "I have a reply! Because I congratulated Mrs. Lau, she replied to me. I know she is probably very busy so we didn't discuss the details." Kwan Yu even said that she had a headache from coming up with a gift for Wa Jai's daughter. Since Wa Jai announced his wife's pregnancy to now, Kwan Yu still has not decided what to give the "Little Dragon Maiden". She said that because baby products were very private, Wa Jai should have stroller and baby seat not to mention baby clothes. Her daughter's baby clothes were in the closest without ever being opened. Thus she wanted to give a gift with some sentimental value. Will she visit Wa Jai's family? Kwan Yu said, "I have to wait until it's convenient for them. He himself hasn't made the announcement, when I sent my text message to him I said I didn't dare to believe anything, I needed him to confirm to believe." * (2012/05/13) The star of the film 3D SEX AND ZEN (3D YUK PO TUEN) Leni Lan Yan recently began a producer for the first time on her film YOUTHFUL HORMONES. The film even landed former Korean idol group H.O.T member Tony An Seung-Ho and Hong Kong comedy actor Wong Yat Fei and has already started production in Beijing and Tianjin. Two days ago, the film company arranged for a media visit. Lan Yan on the set said about what she looked for in a mate, "I definitely won't choose a guy!" Reporters on hand were shocked and asked if Anthony Wong Yiu Ming who earlier came out of the closet affected her. She said, "No one really affected me. In show business you have to be careful with guys. I feel actually girls provide more sense of security, without bad intention. Guys give me no sense of security." Reporters asked whether her romantic troubles with Stanley Tong Kwai Lai affected her and changed her preference. Lan Yan somewhat awkwardly said, "I can only say, I feel everything is in the past. The past vanished like the fog, and no one need to remember it. Time will fade everything." Was she worried that her male otaku fans would be heart broken. "It wouldn't be that bad. I hope male fans who like me really won't need to be heart broken, I really thank everyone for their love." * (2012/05/12) Andy Lau Tak Wa and Chu Lai Sin's daughter was born earlier but Wa Jai with his usual low key personality has not yet announced the good news. Reportedly Wa Jai has always been at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital to keep his wife company. Many media outlets have been waiting outside the hospital for days in hopes of new information. However, many industry friends kept congratulating Wa Jai. Sammi Cheng Sau Man for example yesterday posted a photo of her and Wa Jai when they worked together. In the photo Sammi and Wa Jai both had funny expression. Wa Jai even raised his hand in a victory sign. To congratulate Wa Jai on becoming a father, Sammi wrote in the caption, "Congratulations! The entire world is happy for you! Heehee!" Then Sammi posted on her microblog "Best Wishes". Soon to be mother Miriam Yeung Chin Wa forwarded Sammi's microblog post and posted "Congratulations". Reportedly Johnnie To Kei Fung due to another film DUK JIN (DRUG WAR) recently halted production on Wa Jai and Sammi's film BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM), just in time for Wa Jai to be with his wife and daughter; that film should resume production at the end of the month, new father Wa Jai will return to return then. * (2012/05/12) Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) two nights ago attended a brand name label exhibition. Speaking of the birth of Andy Lau Tak Wa's daughter, did Daniel feel the urge to follow suit? Daniel responded, "I am so young, hopefully it will happen this year." He stressed that he and his wife Lisa will keep working hard at it. Daniel also said that in June he and Stephen Fung Tak Lun's company will make the new film CONTROL. He will produce and star. He helplessly said, "It was so comfortable when I was just an actor, as a boss I have so much work to do." He believed that this year he will stay in Hong Kong more to concentrate on making movies and in hopes of having a child quickly; he also said that his friends like Ryan Hui Wai Yun, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Andy Lau Tak Wa all are parents, which made him want to become a father soon. He said, "If all the children would grow up together, it would be a lot of fun." Would he want a boy or a girl? Daniel said, "It seems easier to have a boy." He also said that he was afraid after having a daughter, when she would start dating in her teens guys would bang on his door. Would he be a jealous father in law? He smiled and said, "Right now I am not, but maybe I would be." * (2012/05/12) With his eye catching action performance earlier in FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP), Chen Kun in PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION (WAT PEI 2) continued to put his agility on display. Chen Kun's opponents in PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION were mainly from the Heavenly Wolf nation. The Fei Xiang played sorcerer led the entire Heavenly Wolf nation force to challenge the Chen Kun played General Huo Xin who came alone into the battle. Many were giant warriors and well trained "wolf death slaves". Chen Kun alone had to face almost a thousand from the Heavenly Wolf nation elite squad. Huo Xin knew death was certain and thus was merciless as every blow was fatal to his enemy. At the same time he did not leave any way out for himself; thus the fighting style could not have gimmick, a blow would land either on the enemy's head or leg. Every move had to have a goal, actual combat fighting. Chen Kun said that this type of combat type fighting was very fun but because this scene was the entire film's most major action scene and was shot at night, he felt a lot of pressure. * (2012/05/11) Director Wong Jing this year has three movies NAKED WEAPON (JUET SIK MO HEI), MA WING JING and PRINCESS AND 7 KUNG FU MASTERS (SIU GUNG JUNG MO LUM) for sale in Cannes. He even personally observed the process from the poster to the promotional short film! In order to attract overseas viewers even more, workers once suggested to Wong Jing to enhance NAKED star Jennifer Tse Ting Ting's figure with computer generated special effects. However Wong Jing turned it down because Brother Jing wanted Ting Ting to become an action actress. During the shoot he even hired Corey Yuen Kwai and Sammo Hung Kam Bo for Ting Ting's hellish training. Ting Ting's boyfriend Andy Tien (On Chi Kit) also took part in the film. * (2012/05/11) Mainland sex symbol Liu Yuqi in the new film LAN KWAI FONG 2 (HEI OI YEH PO 2) will play a sexy teacher. She said that this was her most extreme film to date, thus she struggled before the shoot. "I truly never even had a kiss scene before, but I think as an actor I should try different characters. So I have to play it well." She revealed that in the film she had many intimate scenes. "Not just bed scenes, more stimulating than bed scenes." * (2012/05/11) Sexy goddess Cherie Chung Chor Hung yesterday attended a certain brand name label's Central new store opening. Speaking of Andy Lau Tak Wa's wife just giving birth to a baby girl, Hung Goo who has worked with Wa Jai said that she just found out and truly congratulated him. Since daughters were closer to fathers, Wa Jai would definitely be very happy. Actually she liked children too. They were like a blank piece of paper, innocent like small animals. Hung Goo said, "I like little animals very much, I have a cat at home, I treat it like a child. I am very worried right now, as it is starting to get old. Sometimes I would try to keep it company more." * (2012/05/11) The 50 year old Andy Lau Tak Wa became a father, his wife Chu Lai Sin gave birth to their daughter at the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital. Although Wa Jai has not publicly confirmed the good news, many media outlets yesterday waited outside Wa Jai's residence and hospital. New grandfather and grandmother Papa and Mama Lau yesterday kept their silence at morning tea about their grandchild but they were all smiles. Reporters was waiting at the restaurant parking lot when Ti Lung passed by, Brother Lung after learning about the coverage of Wa Jai's parents asked nicely, "Don't give them too much pressure." Would he share any parenting tips with Wa Jai? He said he did not need to because Wa Jai's parents were very talents, just give them some space. Meanwhile no trace of Wa Jai could be seen at the hospital. * (2012/05/11) Sean Lau Ching Wan, Joey Man Yi Man and director Danny Pang Fat earlier appeared on a TVB Entertainment News Channel interview to talk about their new film FAIRY TALE KILLER (JUI HUNG). Man Yi Man said that she had a fear of heights and promised her family that she would not work on wire scene anymore. Yet this time in one scene she was hung from five story above and took seven days to shoot. She was scared half to death and was extremely worried that her contact lens would fall out at any time. Luckily the director and her onscreen husband Ching Wan supported her on site everyday and she was able to finish the scene. Lau Ching Wan and Man Yi Man in the film played a less than harmonious couple. Ching Wan was asked about his relationship off screen. Ching Wan said that whenever he had to work overseas, his wife Amy Kwok Oi Ming would try to make time to visit. This time in Thailand was no exception. His wife frequently worried that when he worked overseas that he would not get to eat. As for parenthood plans, Ching Wan used to hope to have professional achievements before considering having a baby, but now the time of wanting a child has already passed. Man Yi Man said that she too wanted children but she hoped to get her body into good condition for it first. However because her husband needed a quiet environment to work at home, she was afraid that having a baby would affect him. * (2012/05/10) The film ACT OF VALOR two nights ago held a Hong Kong premiere. Attendees included Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Carol Yeung Chi Yiu, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Patrick Lui Yau Fai and his 11 year old son. Wong Chau Sun just completed the romantic film with Dylan Kuo and Amber An and recently returned from Beijing to promote his film MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU); reportedly he went from a guest star to the lead in this film. He joked, "I don't mind, kids don't mind being taken advantage of. (Did you ask boss Peter Lam Kin Ngor for back pay?) No, Mr. Lam has bought a lot of benefits to me over the years." Later Chau Sun will work on IP MAN's final chapter, which will start production in August. In the film he will play Ip Man later in life, from his 40s to his death. Anita Yuen Wing Yi will play his wife and the role of Bruce Lee is still being cast. Would he suggest his god son Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun)? Chau Sun said that Bruce Lee was still very little when he was with Ip Man, age wise the role would not be suitable for him. In the past Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Dennis To Yu Hang have all played Ip Man. Will he feel any pressure playing the role? Chau Sun said no, his film will be Ip Man's real Hong Kong experience that has not been made before. Chau Sun also said that he has studied Wing Chun for half a year. Now first he has to lose weight as he hoped to drop from 170 to 150 pounds. The film will shoot on location in Foshan. * (2012/05/10) Andy Lau Tak Wa's 46 year old wife Chu Lai Sin two nights ago checked into the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital in Happy Valley and gave birth to an over six pound baby girl. The 50 year old father Wa Jai so far has not confirmed the good news. Lau Tak Wa has always kept his personal life low key, even when his wife Chu Lai Sin was pregnant he only posted "joy for the family" on his official site earlier. Yesterday the news of Chu Lai Sin's admittance into the hospital and giving birth suddenly surfaced. The media flocked to the hospital and waited outside but found no trace of Wa Jai or Lau's family. With Wa Jai's usual low key personality, even if he became a father would not meet the media outside. He might likely wait until his wife's release and everything is settled before announcing the good news on his official site to his fans. Wa Jai's company said that they had no idea and no comment. * (2012/05/10) Shawn Yue Man Lok, Shine, Janice Man Wing Shan and Rose Chan Ka Wun two nights ago attended a fashion label opening ceremony. Lok Jai later will promote MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU) and THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI); He said that after making LOVE IN THE BUFF the outside impression of him was that he had to be with women who were older than him. He himself was able to accept a relationship with an older woman. Shine in August will perform a concert and lately has been busy with rehearsals. In addition, Wong Yau Nam has been in movie negotiations but because the film required nudity he could only turn it down. He said that in IP MAN he bared his rear, but this time required frontal nudity and he could not accept that. * (2012/05/10) The film FAIRY TALE KILLER (JUI HUNG) held its Beijing premiere press conference. Director Danny Pang Fat attended with leads Sean Lau Ching Wan, Wang Baoqiang, and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam. The organizer decorated the press conference location into a fairy tale setting as the leads appeared with "Little Red Riding Hood", "Cinderella" and "Little Prince". Lau Ching Wan played a cop who was in charge of a serial murder investigation. He said that his cop actually was more horrifying than the Wang Baoqiang played killer because in the film the words of the cop could not be trusted. About this encounter of two Best Actors Lau Ching Wang and Wang Baoqiang, Wang Baoqiang humbly said that during the shoot Lau Ching Wan was able to provide him with emotions. Thus his lack of emotion did not matter as long as he followed him. Wang Baoqiang even humbly said, "When he won his Best Actor I don't even know where I was." Wang Baoqiang played a heinous serial killer. He said that at first he had to muster a lot of courage to take this character, because first the costume was very terrifying. In the film he was so disfigured that even he did not recognize himself. Every time he played the killing scene he would feel like it was real. Even he was afraid and suffered from its effects afterward. * (2012/05/10) TVB COMMUNITY CHEST charity show yesterday conducted water skiing fund raising event taping. William Chan Wai Ting, Ronnie Cheung Ho Lung, Andrew Cheung Sung Kei, Community Chest director Wu Man Sun and five Monster Angels Jenny Lau Wai Huen, Apple Chan Chi Yau, Janey Yan Man Ting, Gemma Choi Wai Yan, Sandy Wu Chung Wai attended. Chan Wai Ting recently has been busy with the TRIAD (JAT JIK) film production. He said that he has not slept in three days already because he had to work on both the movie and his music video. Because his character had tattoos, he felt sorry for his two female workers who had to remove the tattoos with alcohol for him in the vehicle. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. SING TAO DAILY, MAY 14 2012 RED ON THE HORIZON, COMPREHENSION IN FRONT OF THE EYES ANN HUI ON WA Ann Hui On Wa's movies have their unique angles. She jokes, "My feeling for individual films would ooze out of the movies. When I fall for a person, I would shoot from below. When I shoot from above it is despise; to be more familiar I would shoot straight from eye level, but too close is disrespectful to the character. This is the language of film." This language makes her in her 35 years in the industry evolve from the New Wave representative figure to the 65 year old international class big time director who shone in Venice with A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH), which Hong Kong and Taiwan have flocked to. Is she famous enough yet? Yet big director does not have to be unreachable. In her Converse Hui On Wa talks like Sister Tao, rarely has a lingering sound. However, in person when she speaks her laughter is endless. "Hahaha! People would always be afraid of getting old and dying, but after making A SIMPLE LIFE, seeing the condition of senior homes, I am not as scared." Nursing Center Revelation Spoiler alert, in A SIMPLE LIFE's many nursing center "scenes", aside from lead Deanie Ip Tak Han other seniors have a lot of exposure as well. The film was shot like a documentary, which has always been Hui On Wa's expertise. She says, this is more or less related to her sense of duty. To her, it is also rather inspirational. She first says seriously, "Reality based films have always been the foundation of film. I already knew this rule from before. Only in the 90s when I went to teach and read more film movement books again and I experienced the Italian neorealism again, then I made even more similar subjects. AUNT (Siqin Gaowa starred THE POST MODERN LIFE OF MY AUNT), THOSE WERE THE DAYS, NIGHT AND FOG, and now A SIMPLE LIFE are all like this." "When I made A SIMPLE LIFE, I went to those nursing center. To me it was quite an experience. If I was younger I definitely wouldn't have noticed because at that time I wouldn't have started to have a sense of duty. I experienced two things: first after making this film and shot the conditions within the center, at least I would make other people know that this group of people are still in the community. I feel this condition is something that they have to know." "Second, seeing the lives of those seniors, I myself wasn't as scared! Hahaha!" Realism, Romanticism, Heroism During the interview, Hui On Wa's laughter is incessant. Turning 65 in August this year, the Big Director seems very happy. Then suddenly she would turn around and say, "Laughing all the day doesn't mean that you are happy!" Only she follows up with another round of "hahaha!" Even so, Hui On Wa says that she values the feeling and the observation and pursues the practical feel. Studying English literature and comparative literature at the university, she even expresses that her wisdom now are mostly from reading a lot. She even has a romantic side. "I love to read wuxia novels, so I have read all of Gum Yung (Louis Cha) and Liang Yusheng's work. Those stories are very heroic and contain a type of romance. You have to know actually wuxia novels have their romantic side. Huan Zhu Lou Zhu's is too fantasy, not real at all. I don't like it!" "As for studying English literature, it was during secondary school. At the time I had no concept of that subject. I had no idea what it was so I had to read a lot of books. When I was younger, I read Maugham (English modern novelist W. Somerset Maugham). I loved his cynical and humorous ways. I have almost read all of his work. Later I also read the English romantic poets biographies, Byron, Keats and Shelly. At the university I read anything and everything." "After reading so many books, sometimes I would ask myself 'what am I reading'. I think it was for that cynical and heroic ways! Yet I rarely collected books. I didn't have the room at home, sometimes even I would forget where I put it; friends would lend books to me. Shu Kei (veteran filmmaker) is one of them. He sometimes would lend me all new books, hahaha!" Stubborn Starlight Dream Hui On Wa has said that she started watching movies when she was four. With her father's encouragement she and her sister went to the movies everyday as the sisters shared one seat. When she joined the industry in 75, although on numerous occasions due to a lack of funding she had to knock on investors' doors Hui On Wa's loyalty to film still has not faded in the slightest." "I studied film because English literature couldn't satisfied me. I am not English, English literature has nothing to do with me. Yet when I wrote the university papers, as soon as I got bored I would sneak out to watch a movie, two in a day; when the professor read the papers, he said I talked more about movies than literature and suggested that I study film. So I went." "Filmmaking is what I like to do the most. When I lack funding I have to find investors, I don't mind because I like it." The big director even makes fun of herself as a "gambling addict". She says, "Filmmaking is like a gambling addict, I feel my filmmaking state of mind is a little like that of a gambling addict, the type that is never willing to leave." However, her work has been mostly star studded. Hui On Wa's "ante" is truly hard to imagine. She only lightly says, "For A SIMPLE LIFE I am willing to imagine Wa Jai (Andy Lau Tak Wa, one of A SIMPLE LIFE's investor) in the role of Roger, but earlier due to financing issue I never asked him. After reading the script he suggested that he would play the role, I didn't even have to ask! Haha!" Afraid Of Getting Old And Dying Looking at life with laughter, Hui On Wa despite needing medication to treat her high cholesterol easily looks at her condition from another angle to cheer herself up. "When I was younger, I didn't konw how to think. Now I categorize everything then ask myself, I can think for a long time." "I have high cholesterol, once I thought what else could I eat still? Any health food? I thought for awhile, I realized that I could still have miso soup, nori, tofu, 10 grain hot cereal, the condition isn't too bad! Haha!" As for her way of living, Hui On Wa has had her own long ago. After a mad period of specializing in fatty and greasy food like fries, chips and beef chow fun, she has already returned from the glorious to the ordinary. "Now my diet is mainly low salt and low grease, eating at home is the safest. I have quitted cold beverages long ago, especially after meals. They would accumulate fat in the stomach. At my age I can't digest it." Is she afraid of dying? "Anyone is afraid of getting old and dying! When I get older, I am not married and have no children I have to find a room in the senior home to live in." No Comment Hui On Wa has lived with her 86 year old mother for years. She says that when she is not busy she would go home everyday and have dinner with her mother. Her siblings have their own families and immigrated elsewhere, only she is still single. Would she sometimes feel empty, lonely and cold? Big Director cuts straight to the point, "No!" Then she adds, "I am already used to being alone for so many years, actually I can be with or without. I still have to watch movies, make movies and read, I don't have time to think!" What about her romantic record? "Wow! Of course I can't talk about that!" I try to dig deeper but this is the big director's unspeakable secret. To be more formulaic, Hui On wa has been married to film long ago. All Laughs After seeing the interview photos, it is not hard to find that Hui On Wa's smile is not frequently seen. At most is the first page's smile and this page's grin. Where does the "hahaha" in the article come from? When we shot these photos, the director was joking with me. Thus her smile was very smile. The most natural moment of the interview was after the interview. I told the director who held a pack of cigarette for a long time already to shoot photos outdoors and for a "cigarette break". She was all smiles and said, "Ah! That's great!" She was even younger than the self proclaimed 22 year old pseudo models. Following Hui On Wa's film language, she should be shot at the eye level due to her friendliness. The upper body shot was not considered too close, maintaining a type of respect for the interviewee. The photos of this page were shot on locations that the big director directed to. "That white wall is too ordinary, this brick wall has more character!" The almost 65 year old Hui On Wa still has such character. I think, if I live to be 65 my goal is the Old Age Allowance and Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes that has not been completely lost. It was more conventional and made her laugh! 2. MING PAO DAILY, MAY 13 2012, FILM WORDS FAIRY TALE KILLER: AVERAGE This week's Hong Kong film includes the Danny Pang Fat directed FAIRY TALE KILLER (JUI HUNG). This detective mystery gives an average performance. Lau Ching Wan as the detective is great as usual -- actually his outstanding performance in LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM) and OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2) competed for this year's Hong Kong Film Award Best Actor but lost to A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s Andy Lau Tak Wa, which is somewhat regrettable. I also feel that although A SIMPLE LIFE is good, it should not have won all the major awards. FAIRY TALE KILLER's case involves discrimination against autism, the suspense and the drama are decent. The problem is Mainland grass root popular male star Wang Baoqiang as the "innocent maniac" is described as too highly intelligent, which does not match with this character's background. FAIRY TALE KILLER's detective is also distressed from his son's autism. Lau Ching Wan and Joey Man Yi Man play the pitiful parents convincingly. (Two and a Half out of Five Stars) DELHI BELLY: Cheerful And Fun Indian film DELHI BELLY can be said as the Bollywood version of THE CRAZY STONE. A bag of jewels cooks up a crazy chase and hilarious romance, making the film very cheerful and fun. This film outrageously tells bathroom jokes, with more foul stench than fragrance. It cannot possibly create a box office miracle like 3 IDIOTS did. (Two and a half out of Five Stars) - SHEK KEI 3. TA KUNG PAO, MAY 13 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH FILM INDSUTRY TALENT GAP IS WORRYING What difficulty is the Hong Kong film industry facing? Is it the rocketing salaries of actors and directors? Or that co-production inspection takes time? No, the difficulty that the Hong Kong film industry is facing is a talent generation gap. Several days ago I discussed film work experience with a group of film screen writing class students, a student hit the nail right on the head and pointed out that currently most Hong Kong film screenwriters and directors have already worked in the film industry for 20 to 30 years. Only a minority of them are young. The future of Hong Kong film is worrying. The Film Development Council's effort in this area does not seem to obvious. Reportedly it is considering how to help first time directors, which should be a step in the right direction. Film professionals for years have asked the government to form a film academy. Its instructors would be experienced directors, screenwriters or professionals of other posts. Unfortunately, two years ago the Baptist University established film academy is no different from the average university. It requires instructors to have certain education level, which is different from what film professionals ask for. Many Hong Kong universities have film departments, after graduation few new blood can successfully join the film industry. The success rate is even lower than the screen writing class graduates. The Film Development Council indeed should use their head and study what other nations and places do. A screen writing class student also mentioned the problem of Hong Kong film subject and whether local subject will be the future direction. Actually it is very hard to say. The recent hit LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) has a Hong Kong subject but also Mainland elements. Because the Mainland has already become the largest market for Chinese language films. If only "Hong Kong subjects" are made, without Mainland viewer recognition the chance for a return is very low. YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE is not a Hong Kong film, but it was able to break the Hong Kong Chinese language film box office record. A student asked whether the Hong Kong viewers' taste has changed? Actually, this movie is a youth film, young people's mentality even in different regions have similarities. This group of young people has already become a new film audience, a phenomenon that is the most obvious in Taiwan. The success of LOVE IN THE BUFF also displays a similar situation in Hong Kong. A student asked, whether Hong Kong film will be able to return to the 90s production rate (over 100 films)? Will subjects have just as much variety? The production rate seemingly cannot possibly return to then because now Hong Kong film box office only occupied 1/4, 3/4 less than foreign films. There is no temptation to elevate production rate. As for subjects, theoretically they can have variety. Yet due to cost inflation movies without Mainland market can only be low budget productions and affect the films' quality. The conclusion is time cannot go backward. Film development also changes with the market environment. The only constant is hope only comes with talent. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Nam Yun Yu Yi Fok Lit : Men Are Like Clothes d. Love that spans the ages has been a longtime favorite of Chinese and Japanese cinema, but it wasn’t until the last decade that epic, awe-inspiring romantic blockbusters made their way into Korean film –but when they hit, they hit with a vengeance! The floodgates opened and nobility clashed with peasants, royalty fell for servants, and everyone somehow stumbled across their soulmates amidst the wildest, most untamed eras of Korean history. So prepare yourself for a healthy dose of action, plenty of gut-busting comedy, and all the swoon-inducing, star-crossed lovers you can possibly take as we present New York City with a bouquet of Korea’s most epic romances! Tuesday, JUNE 19, 2012 @ 7pm THE SWORD WITH NO NAME (2009) Holy blockbusters! A big hit at the Korean box office, Sword is the epitome of posh, luscious, decadent period filmmaking. Based on the real life Empress Myeongseong, it tells her story through the eyes of a bounty hunter who becomes her bodyguard (Cho Seung-Woo, now doing his mandatory military service). She tries to stand up to Russian and Japanese intervention in 19th Century Korea and the results are a series of luxurious, CGI-enhanced action scenes alternating with carefully calibrated and eye-meltingly colorful scenes of court life, making this movie feel like an unholy mix of Merchant-Ivory and The Matrix. Tuesday, JUNE 5, 2012 @ 7pm FORBIDDEN QUEST (20056) A modest hit in Korea that deserves far more attention than it received, this sharp dramedy from The Servant director Kim Dae-Woo has the endearing Yun-Seo ( the legendary Han Suk-Kyu) randomly coming across an ‘indecent novel.’ Hesitant to read it at first, he’s soon inspired to write one of his own, even asking his family rival and infamous captain of guards, Gwang-Heon (Lee Beom-Su, City of Violence), to illustrate it for him. Their book is soon the most talked-about in town and it’s eventually picked up by Jeong-Bin, the king’s favorite concubine. But when she becomes a little too involved, the two men are soon drawn in a tricky web of palace intrigue that will leave no one safe. Tuesday, MAY 15, 2012 @ 7pm KING AND THE CLOWN (2005) During the reign of the infamous King Yeon-san, two clowns (Gam Woo-Sung and Lee Joon-Ki, both mesmerizing here) star in a satirical play about the powerful monarch, which becomes popular among the commoners. Immediately arrested for treason, they bet their lives on making the king laugh at their routine, and their surprising success allows them to stay in the palace as royal performers. When the king (Hi, Dharma’s Jeong Jin-Young) starts displaying an irresistible attraction toward one of the clowns, the performers quickly realize that they may be in over their heads. A pop culture phenomenon, this mid-budget romance about man love ended up selling more tickets than any other film in Korean history – cementing itself deeply in the public consciousness and becoming a culture-defining romantic hit. --- [ WHAT IS YOUR CHAFFING EDITOR LISTENING TO ] A LIFETIME OF LOVE Andy Lau Tak Wa http://youtu.be/huY-2g0mKpA ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
