MISCELLANEOUS * (2012/04/04) The Wong Kar Wai directed, Tony Leung Chiu Wai starred THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) will not participate in this year's Cannes Film Festival, according to an overseas distributor of the film. Jet Tone's Ms. Leung said, "No matter how the film is, a dozen days or so after Easter we will officially announce the release date." Meanwhile, Raymond Wong Pak Ming's Pegasus company has already begun planning to start work on the third IP MAN film 3D IP MAN at the end of the year. Aside from the original cast, the third installment's Bruce Lee is being cast. IP MAN screenwriter Edmond Wong Chi Hung is Wong Pak Ming's son. Yesterday Wong Chi Hung said that the story is still being discussed with director Wilson Yip Wai Shun. He said, "It certainly will have Bruce Lee as a character, starting with him becoming Ip Man's student first. As for who will play Bruce Lee nothing has been set yet. We may need to audition. Roughly said the suitable choices who have played the role are Lee Chi Ting (Aarif Rahman) and Chan Kwok Kwan, but this time will be about Bruce Lee at age 16 or 17. Maybe they are a little older, let Yip Wai Shun decide." Wong Chi Hung even revealed that the film lead will still mainly be Ip Man. Bruce Lee will only be one of the subplots. However the two previous installment's patriotism would remain. He said, "This has to be there, it will even retell big events of then to coordinate with the story. The Kowloon Walled City should be mentioned so Hong Kong people would be able to relate. This time will also add even more creative elements." Yen Chi Tan has expressed interest in a third installment a long time ago. As for a 3D version, his spokesperson Ms. Cheung said, "Chi Tan is looking forward to it. He and Pak Ming have made initial contact, but for now he still has not seen the script so he has no idea what the story will be about." Producer Wong Pak Ming earlier met with Chi Tan. He said yesterday, "The plan is to shoot at the end of the year, but how the story will develop, whether Ip Man will be old, I am not too sure yet. In order to give the audience a fresh feeling, this installment will have a 3D version. The audience will have more dimensions with the action scenes. Yet because of 3D, the production cost will definitely be much higher than the first two films." Was Wong Pak Ming worried that the thid installment release will run into THE GRANDMASTERS? He said, "Actually I have always looked forward to THE GRANDMASTERS. The film has been in production for so long, I am curious about how it will turn out. However I still haven't heard when this film will be released." * (2012/04/04) The film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) after five days in release already made 10 million at the box office. The film company immediately held a celebration two nights ago. Aside from the pregnant lead actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, other attendees included lead actor Shawn Yue Man Lok, director Pang Ho Cheung, boss Peter Lam Kin Ngok, Linda Wong Hing Ping, Isabel Chan Yat Ning, June Lam Siu Ha and Jim Chim Sui Man. Ah Lok's parody of Wong Hing Ping's DON'T ASK WHO I AM music video is spreading like a wild fire online. A music video duel between Wong Hing Ping and Ah Lok's versions was shown and had everyone holding their sides. Ah Lok even mischievously asked whether anyone from the record company was present. If the video could be shown at karaoke boxes, he would be able to win a "Golden Melody Award" and "Best Female Singer" award without any effort. The pregnant Chin Wa said that originally her husband Real Ting Chi Ko wanted to attend as well, but later due to a business meeting she attended alone. She remembered the first film only made 110,000 in its first week, this time after five days it passed 10 million. She truly felt very happy. Since she was unable to attend the Mainland promotion and she had to eat anyway, even if she was less than mobile she still wanted to attend. Did she feel the baby was very lucky for her? She said, "Probably more strength! Actually the credit doesn't just go to one or two people, the script is written well and everyone performed well. (Would you let the baby perform if there is a third movie?) Hubby doesn't want him to be in the business when he will be so little. In addition he will not know how to react yet. I have worked with children on movies, at night they cried a lot. For pictures he should be fine, but let's see the script first!" Ah Lok's parody made Wong Hing Ping's music video very popular. Chin Wa joked that the might of his cross dressing was like being topless. Some said that his impersonation looked like former rumored girlfriend Emme Wong Yi Man, Ah Lok said, "Don't take advantage of the situation!" Chin Wa chimed in and joked that his nose was a little crooked, that he could develop in many directions from here on. Would Ah Lok go out in his woman disguise? Ah Lok asked, "How? People would hit me after just a few steps, my face would be swollen by the end of the block!" Chin Wa also joked that being topless would not be as entertaining as his cross dressing. Ah Lok humbly said that he already did his best and was confident that the online hit rate would be the highest, even Eason Chan Yik Shun had to make room. He also revealed that when Wong Hing Ping first saw his music video she was frightened to tears, maybe because she thought he was "too pretty". Will he disguise himself as a woman again? He said, "I need more negotiation. If I have to again I have to charge twice and be nominated for both Best Actor and Best New Female Performer. Actually this isn't the first time I played a woman, it's just the first time that I played it so outstandingly." Speaking of earlier claim that he was box office poison, did he feel validated this time? He said that he did not mind, since today the miracle drug might turn back to poison if the next movie would bomb at the box office. It would depend on what nourishment was being taken at the time and how the health was. Chin Wa wanted to change the subject and blamed him for always mouthing off around her. Ah Lok joked that was embryo education. Chin Wa joked, "I watched the movie twice, I am really worried that as soon as he is born he would 'greet' me. All the uncles and aunties he would know are monsters. When you are dressed as a woman Hubby covered my eyes!" In addition, playing Chin Wa's friends Chan Yat Ning and Lam Siu Ha became eye catching support. Chan Yat Ning's sharp lines even received great reviews. In the insurance business, she has not yet received more film offers. She would have no problem with foul language in the future either. Speaking of her repeating that line during the audience appreciation, she said that she decided to give her all long ago. During the shoot she was the happiest that she was able to become familiar with Chin Wa and Lam Siu Ha. Once an acting student of Chim Sui Man, Lam Siu Ha's performance even received praise from Chow Yun Fat. She laughed, "I want to thank him, Fat Gor is a Hong Kong actor who I like very much. (If a third film would be made, would you ask the director for a bed scene with you and Huang Xiaoming?) I haven't thought about it, I don't know whether such a character would be in the next one. I don't need such special treatments, let's wait for the director's arrangement!" * (2012/04/04) Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum), Jinny Ng Yeuk Hei and Japanese model Linah Matsuoka two nights ago attended the film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG) wrap banquet. Annie was dressed conservatively. She said that she has never been sexy and asked reporters to stop calling her "goddess". Annie earlier was linked to Kevin Cheng Ka Wing due to their collaboration. Two nights ago she intensely clarified that she was not dating Ka Wing. She said, "Nothing happened! This news wasn't true. He and I never develop anything and can't possibly develop." Annie admitted that this time she was so determined because she had to clarify after being set up. Why did she leave a little room? She remained firm and said, "Nothing like this happened!" Did Ka Wing pursue her? She said that in the show yes, outside the show no. Did she feel Ka Wing was unfaithful? She reacted extremely, "Wow, are you setting me up with this question? It's absolutely not like this, I only know him on a limited basis." She reiterated that this was an entertainment news, she could not possibly develop anything with Ka Wing. This would also be her final clarification. Although she continued to be dry, she felt it was not that bad. * (2012/04/03) Speaking of famous writer Ni Kuang (Ngai Hong), everyone may only think of his work Wisely. Actually in the late 1960 when Hong Kong wuxia films were on the rise he created screenplays. In over 10 years over 300 film scripts came from Ngai Hong's hands. His representative work included the Chang Cheh directed ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN (DUK BEI DOH), NEW ONE ARMED SWORDSMAN, THE BIG BOSS (TONG SAN DAI HING), THE BOXER FROM SHANTUNG (MA WING JING), and HEROES TWO (FONG SAI YUK YU HUNG HEI GUOON) and others. He was an important driving force in the Hong Kong film industry development. Thus this time the Hong Kong Film Award Lifetime Achievement Award was truly deserved. Currently 77, Ngai Hong created countless film characters and figures. They included the most famous Chen Zhen of THE BIG BOSS. When he arrived in Hong Kong in the 50s, he worked as a construction worker, proof reader and editor. Later he became a full time writer, his creative range included detective mystery, science fiction, mythology, wuxia, romance and other genre novels. Once he wrote over 20,000 words in a day. As for this year's Professional Spirit Award, the recipient will be Fong Ho Yuen. For over 30 years he was the still photographer for over 80 films and captured countless valuable still photos. Brother Yuen in 1975 worked "solo" for the first time as the still photographer for films THE LAST MESSAGE (TIN JOI YU BAK CHI) and NO END OF SURPRISES (PAK ON GAING KEI) and worked for almost 40 years since then. In exchange he naturally suffered from ailments of the profession such as frozen shoulder and tennis elbow, but he still firmly remained in his post. His professional spirit and work ethics are worthy of colleague commendation and study. * (2012/04/03) The 31st Hong Kong Film Award will take place on the 15th at the Cultural center. The organizers yesterday held a nominee photo unveiling ceremony and asked Best Actress nominee Deanie Ip Tak Han, Best Supporting Actor nominee Kenneth Tsang Kong and Best New Performer nominees Karena Ng Chin Yu, Shiga Lin Si Nga as guests. The event announced this year's lifetime achievement award recipient to be Ni Kuang (Ngai Hong). First time posing for the program, Sister Deanie was very mischievous and joked that the photographer did very well as it was very difficult. She said with a smile, "The photographer got heavy handed and made me look too pretty!" Sister Deanie since last year has won many awards with A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). Yesterday naturally she became the focus. Even though Sister Deanie has been in the business for years, she revealed that this was the first time she posed for the program. She said, "I didn't feel the shoot was tough." Sister Deanie said that the photographer normally often ran into pretty girls, this time running into her the shoot was highly difficult. "Because if they made me look old, they were afraid that I would scold them. However I said I should be old, I didn't expect them to be so heavy handed and made me look too pretty!" As for her fashion preparation, Deanie explained that she would mainly listen to the designer's opinion about how much to show. She said, "This time I won't mainly wear black as before, because my clothes required many adjustments." She said that when others wore long dresses they looked elegant but hers would drag on the floor. Sister Deanie also said that Her Venice Film Festival dress last year was adjusted a dozen times or so. She said, "As long as I feel it fits it's OK." As for jewelry, Sister Deanie admitted that she left them in the hands of the designers and the sponsors. She said, "I would listen to their opinion." As for Ni Kuang's Lifetime Achievement Award, Sister Deanie said that although she has been in the business for years, she and Ni Kuang were not too familiar. She said, "Over 20 years ago (Winnie) Yu Tsang and I worked on a concert at Baptist (University), Mr. Ni and Mr. and Mrs. Yin Jong (Louis Cha) came to see us and even had dinner together. Since then I haven't run into him again." In addition, Ng Chin Yu and Lin Si Nga were both nominated for Best New Performer. When asked who their biggest competition was, Ng Chin Yu said, "I pick my company's Mainland colleague Zheng Shuang. She performed very well." She also said that both she and Lin Si Nga were models and had similar experience, thus they would support each other. As for what she would wear, Ng Chin Yu responded, "I hope for a long dress, elegant like a fairy." Lin Si Nga said that she has already watched all of her competition's work. She said, "I pick Siu King Tung (Jam Hsiao) and Sheng Jian. Siu King Tung's performance is very funny, Sheng Jian's acting was convincing." As for what she would wear, Lin Si Nga explained that she would choose either long or short dress. In addition, Lifetime Achievement Award winner Ni Kuang yesterday did not appear, but he stated, "I am very happy and surprised to receive this award, thank you Hong Kong Film Award for giving me this award!" Ni Kuang stressed that on the night of the award ceremony he will appear in person to accept the award. * (2012/04/03) Michelle Chen who rose to stardom with the film YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE in Hong Kong and Taiwan yesterday promoted her new film SOUL OF THE BREAD with actor Chen Han-Tien in Hong Kong. They were linked in rumors because of this film. Chen Han-Tien was asked whether he would pursue Michell Chen, he pretended not to understand. When asked whether Michelle Chen tempted his heart, Chen Han-Tien said, "During the shoot definitely, we are good friends. Everyday after work we would eat together." Michelle Chen said that the cast everyday after the shoot would meet for dinner, which had quite a big family feeling. Speaking of the kiss scene with Chen Han-Tien, Michelle Chen said that she and Chen Han-Tien's kiss was an emotional release. The kiss with the other co-star Anthony Neely (Ngai On Tung) was the more romantic type. Out of the two she preferred the romantic type and felt that a romantic kiss would be more mild mannered. Chen Han-Tien was made fun of for needing many takes for the kiss scene. He said, "I didn't deliberately have bad takes, just that the shoot needed different angles." Michelle Chen said that she was not worried about SOUL OF THE BREAD box office and joked that people who have seen the film would definitely love bread. Michelle Chen seemed slimmer. She said, "I didn't deliberately lose weight, but now work requires good condition so I have suitable exercise rate." Michelle Chen will work with Donnie Yen Chi Tan on a new film next month. She said, "I look forward to it very much, but I am not nervous. I am just excited." Michelle Chen also revealed that she probably would not need to fight in the film, but intimate scene has not been confirmed yet. * (2012/04/03) LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) after four days in release already reached 9.1 million at the Hong Kong box office as the raves rolled in waves. Director Pang Ho Cheung also prepared a surprise for the audience. Shawn Yue Man Lok even made the sacrifice and donned a female disguise to impersonate Linda Wong Hing Ping's DON'T ASK WHO I AM music video. Pang Ho Cheung said that this was a emotional knot for him because when he was young he liked Wong Hing Ping very much. In his youth Wong Hing Ping has always been his goddess. In the past he always watched this music video. When he prepared for this film, he suddenly wanted to ask Wong Hing Ping to guest star. He did not expect her to agree right away and make his dream come true. During the entire music video shoot, the director insisted on shooting exactly like the original music video shot for shot. During the shoot, Lok Jai had help from several female workers and felt very awkward. Yet on the set his performance was very feminine as even he took photos of himself. While the director was busy at work, Lok Jai picked up with the director and even crushed his toilet paper filled chest on top of the director. He made everyone laugh. Lok Jai also said that he could not face himself. Friends said he was too horrifying and made people nauseous. He said, "I am not a beauty I am just a hunk! Even I don't dare to watch this music video myself. My beauty look is truly too frightening. Even at the premiere when I watched it for the first time, I would only sneak a peek as my hair were on its ends." Pang Ho Cheung said earlier that he would ask Miriam Yeung Chin Wa's baby to be in the third film. Chin Wa yesterday said that it could not be confirmed as she pretended that he was joking. She said, "From Mr. Ting's stance, education is the most important for a child. It can't be without a childhood." Chin Wa said that seven months into her pregnancy she gained 20 pounds. The baby now was in her belly and put an enormous strain on her lumbar. She could not stand for too long. Would she make an announcement after she gave birth like Kelly Chen? She said that it would depend on the condition. Ultimately she was vain and did not want to show people an ugly side. * (2012/04/02) Shawn Yue Man Lok yesterday along with Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Linda Wong Hing Ping, June Lam Siu Ha and Isabel Chan Yat Ning went to the movies for LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) viewer appreciation. Yue Man Lok and Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) are good friends. Reportedly Chairman Chou was upset at the paparazzi for following him and his rumored girlfriend Hannah Quinlivan to dinner and got violent with reporters. Lok Jai said that he did not know about it and said that the paparazzi have greeted him as well. He pointed out that some paparazzi crossed the line as their intention was to taunt and upset people. However he definitely would not get violent. Lok Jai said, "Everyone is at work, they can cover a story but hopefully not too excessively. They can be more polite." As for counterfeits already appearing online even though the new film was just released, Lok Jai was surprised. "So soon? I don't know, give it another week before pirating it. This isn't good at all. Everyday I have been looking at the box office charts, everyday it has been sold out. Many people who couldn't get tickets are still waiting to see it. Hopefully it won't be pirated so soon." He joked that an eye for an eye he would hack the counterfeit sites and remove the movie. Lok Jai continued that someone who worked at the cinema told him online that Chow Yun Fat went to see this movie. He happily said, "I have watched many of Fat Gor's movie, now Fat Gor is watching mine and even staying for a few hours." The film company promotion immediately told Lok Jai said that Fat Gor praised his performance. He said, "I am glad, the third installment wants Fat Gor, either as my father or the unusual father in law." Wong Hing Ping called Lam Siu Ha who played Brenda and was paired with Huang Xiaoming in the film the envy of all women in China. She said, "Many friends are envious that I embraced Huang Xiaoming, but everyone please take a closer look, he is the one who is holding me!" She said that she was just acting so she was not worried that his girlfriend Angelababy would be upset. On the set she did not seen Baby visiting. Playing Miriam Yeung Chin Wa's good friend in the film, Chan Yat Ning did not use foul language but in the film had to use it as much as the director wanted. Yesterday they gave away stickers with the film's sharp dialogue to viewers but were unable to add in foul language. Chan Yat Ning performed a line on the spot as the director asked. Wong Hing Ping whose classic song DON'T ASK WHO I AM music video was the target of Lok Jai's impersonation knew about the part before hand but was not ready for the result. However she still liked it very much. At the viewer appreciation, she joked that she did not dare to look at Lok Jai. Lok Jai quoted the film exactly down to the foul language to tell her not to mess with him. Director Pang Ho Cheung was grateful that the film made 8 million after four days in release. He has always wanted to make a third film, perhaps about the relationship between Chi Ming's family and Chun Giu. A viewer asked whether they would borrow Chin Wa's baby for the shoot. Pang Ho Cheung said, "Her second child may be useful." * (2012/04/02) Yesterday April 1 was April Fool's Day, which was also the 9th anniversary of late superstar Gor Gor Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's death. Director Ann Hui On Wa was very grateful for A SIMPLE LIFE's victory. "I believe that as long as people can understand each other, the world will have peace. I hope A SIMPLE LIFE can bring people more understanding of senior life and understand their needs. I again thank everyone for their support." Andy Lau Tak Wa said, "What makes people the happiest is the message of love can truly touch everyone around the world." Ip Tak Han praised the director and Wa Jai, "Although I don't know what the jury said about A SIMPLE LIFE yet, as a part of A SIMPLE LIFE I felt very honored about the Okinawa International Film Festival award. I believed that we on a certain level touched them! The real life story was the background for most voters. A SIMPLE LIFE used old maids who the average people thought was insignificant as the subject and thoroughly displayed the director and investment's courage and artistic integrity!" * (2012/04/02) THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT IK JI DAN) cast yesterday appeared at the Shanghai press conference. On the stage that was designed like a large Republic arsenal, director Law Chi Leung, Lau Ching Wan, Mini Yang Mi, Liu Kai Chi turned into a smart detective group and played an "extreme mystery" segment. They not only successfully unveiled the six major characters' looks and also found the Best Actor Nicholas Tse Ting Fung who was busy and absent from the event. Lau Ching Wan humorously said, "Ting Fung originally planned to stay home to be a full time house husband, luckily a 'godly detective' like me came in and found him." At the event, Lau Ching Wan and Yang Mi formed a temporary team and answered many of the hosts' tough questions. They not only teamed up to unveil the four major character's costumes but also dug deeper to bring Tse Ting Fung who did not appear into the event. Although Ting Fung could not attend, in the video he said that he looked forward to the film very much. "The most memorable for me in THE BULLET VANISHES production was my first attempt in changing genres. It is not only an action film but also focuses on mystery investigation and other intelligent segments. However my six pack abs have completely vanished! I didn't have to fight and we feasted at every meals." The film's producer Derek Yee Tung Sing earlier said that Tse Ting Fung and Yang Mi had a daring and fiery bed scene. Yang Mi said, "Actually after 3 days in the production the director wanted to shoot the scene already. At the time Ting Fung and i weren't very familiar yet, the feeling was somewhat embarrassing. Thus I asked the director if I could drink a little before the shoot. For that scene I drank red wine and beer, finally I found the most suitable feeling." As for playing such a fiery scene in her first collaboration with Tse Ting Fung, was she worried that her boyfriend Harwick Lau Hoi Wai would be jealous? Yang Mi said, "Everyone are professional actors, he definitely can understand." * (2012/04/02) The Nick Cheung Ka Fai played NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO)'s Hong Kong box office is heading for 15 million since its release. Two nights ago Ka Fai dressed up like his character in the film went to two Guangzhou cinemas alone and thanked the audience with sign language. Ka Fai used sign language to ask the audience, "Did you like this film? Have you been touched by love? Did you cry?" The attentive viewers completely understood Ka Fai's sign language and some even praised Ka Fai was still such as good actor without any line. Viewers not only enjoyed Ka Fai's acting but also his costume in the film. His sneakers even became trendy. Ka Fai said, "My sneakers were my own, not from the production. American product New Balance. Now they are already very hard to get. Reportedly they are worth 1700 yuan RMB. Actually that day after I put them on to act, I felt that this pair of shoes not longer belonged to me but to the character. Now since some online liked this pair of sneakers with sentimental value and no one minded that I wore them, I am willing to give them away." Viewers immediately cheered and raised their hands for the shoes. Because they were the only pair, the film company decided that as long as viewers would actively participate in the NIGHTFALL microblog in the next 5 days they would have a chance to win this pair of sneakers. * (2012/04/02) The storm between Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Vincent Zhao Wenzhou has already involved innocent people. Chang Ka Chun said, "Chinese people have always advocated harmony for wealth and as a virtue. As film workers of China, we should unite and make good movies for the audience around the world to enjoy. This is what we should do." Unfortunately due to television personnel changes this project was scrapped." Fau Lok Lin said, "Today China already has the qualifications to become a super nation. As a part of the film industry, our foremost mission is for the world to know that the excellent films that Chinese people make can be promote to the entire world. As from individual heroism, it is the result of a teamwork. I am not too familiar with Yen Chi Tan, but someone's success aside from his own qualifications also has a lot to do with how he treats people and matter. Yen Chi Tan is where he is today absolutely not by chance." Yen Chi Tan would not comment further about the matter. * (2012/04/02) The 2nd LeTV Entertainment Awards took place two nights ago in Beijing. "I am very honored to be able to touch the audience as an actress and a singer. I am very happy to run into many excellent filmmakers like Wong Jing, (Andy) Lau Tak Wa, (Ann) Hui On Wa. My character in A SIMPLE LIFE is a small figure, being able to touch the audience it proved that small figure has influence too." She felt that her life has already reached its twilight, being able to run into a good script and a good character as well as a touching story was the icing on the cake and she felt honored. * (2012/04/01) Kate Tsui Tsz Shan yesterday attended the film's Easter advanced screening for the animated film PLEASANT GOAT AND BIG BIG WOLF 4 and played question and answer games with children, which made them very happy. She joked, "Last year (Michael) Tse Tin Wa provided his voice with me, now he is famous his raise was too much so this year he doesn't have a part!" Tsz Shan revealed that she watches this animated film every year. She rarely watches cartoons but the film company truly was very sincere. Not only did it arrange for her to promote in Guangzhou earlier but also gave her a lot of merchandise, which she gave to her niece. In addition, Tsz Shan revealed that in April she will work on an all new comedy. Earlier at the costume fitting she frightened co-workers. Tsz Shan said, "I didn't know him too well, but when he saw me he really jumped with fright. Unfortunately for now I couldn't talk too much about it. Ultimately King Kong and I will play a couple. If you want to see it just wait for the movie!" "I will send some pictures to him, haha, will that be too mean?" Ting Ting admitted that her heart ached over how tough her boyfriend's production was because he earlier injured his neck. On Chi Kit took over for Vincent Zhao Wenzhou in DUT SHU SUN FUN. Earlier fans of Yen Chi Tan and Zhao Wenzhou exchanged insults online. Was Ting Ting afraid that her boyfriend would be dragged in? She said, "I don't know much about the matter, for now he hasn't run into anything unpleasant, maybe because he is pretty big." * (2012/03/31) Teresa Mo Shun Kwan earlier accepted Clifton Ko Chi Sum's aTV program interview. Ko Chi Sum was the ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL (GA YAU HEI SI) director. At the time Ko Chi Sum upset one of the leads Maggie Cheung Man Yuk over something on the second day of the shoot. With a dozen or so days left, Ko Chi Sum was very worried. Mo Mo at the time gave his an idea. One day the four couples shot a wedding scene, when Ko Chi Sum saw the "brides" he praised the brides as very pretty. Mo Shun Kwan said, "Are you talking about me?" Ko Chi Sum who has already rehearsed his lines said, "Do you think you are Maggie?" Cheung Man Yuk was very pleased and immediately gave Ko Chi Sum a high five. They laughed and forgot about the grudge. Then the dozen or so days of shoot went smoothly. Ko Chi Sum also appreciated how Mo Mo saved his life. Mo Shun Kwan played mostly "ugly characters" in Ko Chi Sum's movies. Ko Chi Sum pointed out that very few actresses would make a sacrifice like she did. Mo Mo said that only in recent years was she complimented for her beauty. At the time everyone thought she was very suitable to play those roles. She herself did not mind whether she was pretty or not, the most important was whether the character was fun. However, she felt comedy was very hard to make. It required great communication with co-stars and the director. Mo Mo also remembered Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing on the program. She said when she attended his funeral, she lost control when she looked at him through the glass and thought why Gor Gor would do this. She only wanted him to hurry up and wake up. * (2012/03/31) April 1 will be the anniversary Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's death. Currently in the Mainland Chan Suk Fun will be in Hefei, thus she paid her respects before leaving Hong Kong. In addition Cheung Kwok Wing's Japanese fans every year would present thousand origami cranes to Cheung Kwok Wing. On the back of each crane was messages that they wrote for Cheung Kwok Wing. This year's thousand crane theme was star. This year 2388 cranes were made because in Japanese 23 sounded like "ni-san", which meant Brother (Gor Gor); and 88 meant forever. These 2388 origami cranes represented them. "Leslie, your shine as a superstar is infinite!" At 5PM on April 1 they will bring the thousand origami crane to Po Fook Hill to present to Cheung Kwok Wing. * (2012/03/31) The Media Asia movie LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) opened on March 29. After one day in official release its single day box office already reached HK$1,111,221. With last weekend's advanced screening box office, the total box office has already reached HK$3,257,601, 32 times more than LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) two years ago. The director decided to lead the cast on an audience appreciation cinema tour Sunday. The film opened in the Mainland nationwide on March 30. As of the morning of the 30th the film has been scheduled for over 11,000 shows and released like a foreign film. The Mainland audience reaction was very enthusiastic. LOVE IN THE BUFF has already become the talk of Hong Kong, many sang its high praises on their facebook and film sharing platforms. A movie mobile phone app already had 100 viewer comments after viewing, most gave the full score of 5 points. Viewers also said that the film had endless laughs, almost something funny every 5 minutes and applause worthy every ten. Currently promoting the film in the Mainland, Pang Ho Cheung was very excited. He thanked everyone for again appreciating his talent and he decided to show appreciation to Hong Kong viewers. On Sunday he will fly back to Hong Kong, then in the afternoon he will lead the cast to cinemas in Mongkok and Causeway Bay for audience appreciation. The film company will hold a celebration next Monday. Lead actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa will break taboo and again attend the film event. Chin Wa already has her husband's permission to celebrate with the cast and the crew. * (2012/03/31) The film FAIRY TALE KILLER (JUI HUNG) yesterday held a trailer and first poster launch press conference in Beijing. Director Danny Pang Fat led Lau Ching Wan and Wang Baoqiang to the event. The film will be released in mid May. The first poster was unveiled at the event, which also played the film trailer. In the trailer Wang Baoqiang's "scarred look" was very frightening. Wang Baoqiang appeared to be very excited yesterday. He said that he has seen many of Big Brother Ching Wan's movies and he was very lucky to be able to work with him this time. This character was the biggest breakthrough in his career. His look in the film also required a lot of courage. After make up he even scared himself when he looked at the mirror. At first he was afraid that he would not perform well, luckily the director gave him confidence. After two days he was completely fine. Baoqiang pointed out that one scene was very memorable. At the police station he spat on Big Brother Ching Wan's face. Although everyone was a professional actor, Big Brother Ching Wan was an elder. He was very reserved. Finally Big Brother Ching Wan firmly said that he had to spit, so he really spat on Ching Wan's face. He was truly very sorry. Ching Wan said that the most memorable was the first time he met Wang Baoqiang. He felt that he looked too much like the killer in the film. The director truly chose the right person. Everyone knew the communication between actors often did not require language. The host gave Lau Ching Wan a chance at revenge. Lau Ching Wan generously embraced Baoqiang and laughed, "I want to melt him with love, I won't use any violent way." * (2012/03/30) Shu Qi in support of Donnie Yen Chi Tan faced online attacks, which made her helplessly remove her microblog to avoid malicious attacks. Artists and fans alike were reluctant and heart broken to see her like this, but she has already strongly stood up again and on her official site responded as the Shu Qi official site fan club. Shu Qi said that she would thank people who have hurt her because they enabled her to keep learning and growing. Although the process hurt a little and was a little hard to take, but are people not alive for spiritual practice? Thus she thanked people who did not love her for giving her the chance for spiritual practice. Then she properly would consider life direction. Shu Qi also did not care about any comment. She has managed to walk through, get through and persist through the storms of the past 17 years. Being able to continue to live in this circle and having the love of many, she believed that her parents burnt a lot of incense for her ancestors. Thus other storms would pass, trading accusations and name calling would only add to each other's negative energy. She wish the world would not need to fight in the future, positive energy will be able to crush negative energy for people who need warmth to experience the power of love. She admitted that for now although she was a little weak and did not know what to do, she just needed a little time and she will properly, strongly get through it and be better than before. Very soon she will have a heroic good woman, no one should worry about her. According to Shu Qi's manger, her future work schedule has not been affected. Next month she will attend a public event at the soonest. * (2012/03/30) Joey Yung Cho Yi, Louis Koo Tin Lok and Chrissie Chau Sau Na two nights ago attended a fashion event. Joey even appeared as the spokesperson. Chau Sau Na revealed that she will work with top Mainland actress Mini Yang Mi on a film. Yang Mi's salary was rumored to be 12 million. She said that she was not the lead this time but will work hard for salary. In recent years her salary kept growing and she was very satisfied. Koo Tin Lok has been busy with a movie in the Mainland. Recently many actors were caught in indecent assault cases in the Mainland. Goo Jai said that after work he rarely went to night spots or have late night snack because he was afraid of stomach ache. He also was not used to going to crowded place, mostly he would stay at the hotel. For years Goo Jai has not had a female companion. Did he not want to date? He said, "In recent years I always made masculine movies, you might as well ask Lau Ching Wan and Ng Yin Cho (Daniel Wu) whether they like me." * (2012/03/30) Wylie Chiu Shek Chi, Khloe Chu Chi Hiu, Malaysian actress Brandy Lam Si Chi and host Poon Siu Chung earlier worked on the documentary film THE CASES in Hong Kong, Japan and Bali. Earlier they met with the media to share their production experience. All three women was praised as daring as the supernatural experience did not scare them, but Chu Chi Hiu admitted that she regretted making the film a little. At first she thought people would pretend to be ghosts and they had a script, but actually she had to personally attract supernatural phenomenon. Chu Chi Hiu worked on the Hong Kong abandoned village segment, next to a gold tower in a rundown home a Thai master set up to call upon the spirits. The master's movement stunned her. She said with regret, "I didn't know we were going to shoot like this, I felt a little like being set up. At the time I didn't dare to say anything, but I regret a little of taking the film." Wylie and Brandy went to a Tokyo murder site to play ouija. Wylie said, "This was a wonderful experience, but I may not try it again." Brandy also went to Bali, but for her first time there she went directly to the cemetery. She joked, "Friends say Bali is a romantic place, but I didn't feel romantic at all." She said that they went as a group to shoot, their noises would have scared off any spirit. In addition she wore a Buddha amulet, if he felt something she would chant. Ah Chung praised the girls as daring, during the shoot no one screamed for him to help. Brandy said that because they knew everyone would protect them. * (2012/03/30) LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) yesterday was officially released, but many who have seen advanced screening gave it rave reviews and the response was ideal. Although Chin Wa was pregnant, she still tried to attend the Hong Kong promotions. Earlier she was interviewed with Shawn Yue Man Lok and Mini Yang Mi. After working together twice, Chin Wa and Lok Jai were already good friends. Their conversations had sparks, but "big kid" Lok Jai told dirty jokes in front of Chin Wa and the baby. Chin Wa shook her head and sighed. In the film one of Lok Jai's lines "pink nipples are hard to come by" won viewers' applause. Lok jai was asked if he was looking for them in real life as well. He cracked up and said that he never ran into any. He joked, "The ones I run into are all normal color, haha." Chin Wa could not help but stare at him and shook her head. She lamented, "What a shame, when the baby is born I don't know you, how gross." What was Chin Wa looking for? She said, "I am after health, healthy breast milk is fine." Was Chin Wa afraid that her figure would be lost after giving birth? She admitted that she would not be worried. Instead now she would pay attention to her diet and has a coach who teach her how to slim down after giving birth. She said, "As a mother I don't think about that, otherwise I wouldn't have it. At this stage of life, the baby's health is the most important." Lok Jai asked when Chin Wa would return to work. Chin Wa said that after she recovered she would. Later Lok Jai was asked whether he wanted to make a third film. Lok Jai pointed out of course. Chin Wa pointed out that she was very lucky to make this film, another month later she would not be able to. Lok Jai immediately said, "Because you made this movie, you are pregnant so fast." He revealed that during the Beijing shoot, Real Ting Chi Ko visited the set for two days. Lok Jai joked, "It was on those two days, two days nonstop do you know how long you have to work? It already was plenty of time." Chin Wa immediately said, "If it was on those two days, the expectant date wouldn't be in mid June." Lok Jai still joked that he and Pang Ho Cheung already took credit for it and even joked that Chin Wa might have another if she made another film. Chin Wa immediately yelled, "Deranged! Jinx." Then she struck back at Yue Man Lok, "Then it would be your turn! One chicken two dishes! Sometimes it's very coincidental, wedding and parenthood come at once." Yang Mi was asked whether the guy she was after was her current boyfriend Harwick Lau Hoi Wai? Yang Mi said that they were already together. Did she feel her boyfriend was the best? She said, "Pretty good." * (2012/03/30) Mag Lam Yun Tung, Janice Yan, Joyce Cheng Yun Yi and Alfred Hui Ting Hung two nights ago attended a TVB JADE SOLID GOLD taping. Host King Kong wore a wig and shaved to impersonate musician Tang Chi Wai and had everyone holding their bellies. Eight years without a complete shave, King Kong this time did not make the sacrifice completely for JADE SOLID GOLD. He did it mainly because he needed to have a new look for his movie SUN SAU YING GAING (HOLY BEAST COP). As for who was more handsome between him and Tang Chi Wai, he joked, "I have always been handsome, everyone has his different uniqueness and strength. However I really haven't seen my own chin for a long time." * (2012/03/29) Vincent Zhao Wenzhou and Donnie Yen Chi tan due to the film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) turned against each other. The former was kicked off the production and thus began a war of words. Zhao Wenzhou spoke about Shu Qi's microblog closing and praised Shu Qi as a great artist. He liked her work very much and hoped to work with her in the future. This time he just told the facts as they were. Now he wants the matter to pass sooner. He felt tired and only wanted to return to his normal life. Yesterday a Mainland site posted stills from the film, fans who supported Zhao Wenzhou said after seeing the photo people would understand why their idol was kicked out -- because he was tall and handsome. Feng Xiaogang due to his support of Shu Qi suffered online attacks. He fearlessly continued to fight strongly and yelled at "beasts". He pointed out that veterinarians were so busy that they did not have enough medicine to give. Raymond Wong Pak Ming was called "rotten film king" after praising Yen Chi Tan. He was much more at ease than Feng Xiaogang, explained his stance and at the same time forgave "children" who yelled at him. * (2012/03/29) Kwai Lun-Mei and Joseph Chang worked together on the film GIRLFRIEND BOYFRIEND. Director Yang Ya-Che in order to apply for the Taipei Film Awards hurried the production up and thought the leads were able to win this year's Taipei Film Award Best Actor and Best Actress. The film's backdrop was Taiwan's changes over 30 years and invited a Taiwanese instructor to teach the cast old style Taiwanese. Kwai Lun-Mei had the most experience with language study. She even stumped the teacher when she asked how to say "flat chested" in Taiwanese? The teacher a week later finally replied, "cold bottom". Then Kwai Lun-Mei joked that she was "cold bottom". During the shoot, the director enabled the actors to perform freely. They "plotted" with each other and thus before the shoot were very nervous, as they were afraid that the co-stars would do something strange. Joseph Chang and Kwai Lun-Mei had a break up scene that unexpectedly touched emotional wounds. He cried for 10 minutes and still could not settle down; in another scene Kwai Lun-Mei slapped Joseph Chang 30 times before its completion, his face was swollen and his stomach ached; Kwai Lun-Mei had her fill of the acting bug, she even hid and cried. * (2012/03/29) Sandra Ng Kwan Yu yesterday attended a wax figure unveiling ceremony at the Madame Tussauds Hong Kong at the Peak. Kwan Yu's wax figure was based on her CLUB SPARKLE hosting costume. Yesterday aside from Kwan Yu's parents, hubby Peter Chan Ho Sun and his father, their daughter Chan Si Chi attended. During the unveiling, Kwan Yu put on sunglasses and made the same pose as the wax figure for the media to tell the real from the fake one. Finally Kwan Yu broke into laughter and gave the answer away. Kwan Yu said that the statue was very convincing, 99% like her. The only flaw was the lack of additional career line (cleavage). Kwan Yu said that she of course was happy about having her own wax figure, which represented her fame and people's recognition. She thought about her appearance for a very long time. Kwan Yu said, "Even my daughter hasn't seen my wax figure, so today after school she very excitedly rushed us out the door." Kwan Yu asked her daughter whether the wax figure or the real person was prettier, she smartly said that Mommy in person was the prettiest. Kwan Yu said that originally she suggested using the PORTLAND STREET BLUES (HUNG HING SUP SAM MUI), GOLDEN CHICKEN (GUM GAI) or ECHOES OF THE RAINBO (SHUI YUET SUN TAU) characters for the wax figure, but the venue liked her host image the most. Was the wax figure measurement tough? She said, "I have to stay still for nine hours, it felt very tough. However I knew that after over a year the costume would change. I hoped then I would change into some film costumes, the best would me changing me into a 36-22-36 figure." In addition, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data yesterday charged two magazines hidden camera shots for violating privacy laws. Kwan Yu helplessly said, "Actually what's done is done, hopefully the media won't be too thoughtful about planning to create news. Sometimes I forget to bring underwear to the showers, maybe someone would use a long range lens to 'scope'." Did she feel the charge would have any effect? Kwan Yu admitted that yes but legislation would impact freedom. She hoped every post would be able to exercise self control. As for Shu Qi after supporting Donnie Yen Chi Tan suffered an online attack of past erotic photo posts, Kwan Yu said, "Shu Qi is very strong and kind, she has no problem. After removing the posts she should open the microblog again." * (2012/03/29) Mr., Mag Lam Yun Tung, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), Jeana Ho Pui Yu and others performed in Causeway Bay for the LIVES IN FLAMES street band show. Due to the lack of security, the scene was very chaotic. Some even got close to the actors and scared them, police officers were on hand for an understanding of the situation. Jeana recently has been caught with Parkman Cheung Pak Man. Were they dating? Jeana denied that they were and said that they were just friends. Why was she so afraid when the media ran into them that day? She explained that because she was afraid without make up her ugly side would be caught. Jeana stressed, "I am currently single, four years of caged animal fight relationship is already over. I enjoy being courted now." After the media photo, Jeana said that she was no longer in contact with Parkman and they were not embarrassed to see each other again. As for whether they have a chance to develop, Jeana said that she still was choosing and would not be in a hurry. She now has half a dozen suitors. Si Nga earlier was caught on the streets with a man in a suit. She said that he was just a friend, who another friend introduced her to. Because in her recent film she played a lawyer, she asked this lawyer friend about the law. Si Nga said, "Knowing more different people is a good thing, life is short. Acting always requires playing different people, knowing more different people would be helpless." She stressed that the real deal has not appeared yet. Earlier she was caught with two men, was she afraid that she was seeing both at once? Si Nga explained that she was caught with different friends at the same time. * (2012/03/29) Recently Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Vincent Zhao Wenzhou due to a new film turned against each other. Chapman To Man Jat wrote about Chi Tan online. Shu Qi also reposted what Ah Jat wrote in support of Chi Tan and finally received online attacks as her past erotic photos were posted, forcing her to remove her microblog. Ah Jat said that Shu Qi has experienced many storms, this time was only a small ripple. He believed that she was not affected much. The film VULGARIA (DAI CHOOK HEI KET) two nights ago held its premiere. To Man Jat and his wife Krystal Tin Nui Nei, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei and Dada Chen Jing attended. Speaking of Shu Qi due to her support of Chi Tan received online attacks that forced her to remove her microblog, Ah Jat said that recent online culture has been this way. He joked, "Maybe people online are in a bad mood, but I feel the timing of online criticism is very uniform. For example I wrote something online earlier, at first only some fans responded. Then suddenly a group of people came to scold. (Are you saying it was planned?) I don't know and I won't speculate." Did he support Chi Tan? He admitted that he knew Chi Tan when he was very little, when he was an extra on television. What he wrote online was just his personal experience, Shu Qi too. He said, "At first I didn't feel anything, but fans saw it and felt unhappy. So I now closed the microblog comments, only people who follow me can post a comment. I for now won't play microblog." Ah Jat also said that as a public figure he could not do much about getting yelled at. Did he comfort Shu Qi? He said, "Ms. Shu has experienced so many storms. This time is only a very small ripple, not much effect. Removing the microblog was only her personal decision. (But she cried?) Anyone who is still happy about getting yelled at nonstop is silly. I don't know how hurt she felt, but the person I know is very strong and won't be weak. In the past when she worked on (Ringo) Lam Lan Tung's movie, he was known for being mean. Yet when the director yelled at her if Shu Qi felt she was right she would argue with reason, which is what I admire Ms. Shu the most for." VULGARIA guest star Cheng Chung Kei revealed that recently he was busy with his daughter. Later he will direct a horror film about 108 ghosts in China. Although he will not perform, he may invest. He admitted that directing will bring pressure because the film consisted several stories of different lengths. Dada talked about the car rocking scene in the film. She said that she did not know whether it was removed and joked that she had to go in to find out. Would she invite her boyfriend? She stressed that she was still single. Later when she will go to the Maldives for vacation she hope that she will be able to meet someone. She joked, "Hopefully when I drown, a strong man will save me." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, APRIL 1 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD DEANIE IP'S ENDLESS REGRET Deanie Ip Tak Han last year at age 63 with A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) swept up many Best Actress awards, but with a world of experience she clearly understands that it will not bring her a new start. It will only bring color in her twilight years. The Best Actress award puts a perfect end to her film career. Looking back at the first half of his life, she lightly states, "I still have many regrets in life!" Sister Deanie has not been working hard to extend this peak of life due to her awards. Instead she only wants to try to avoid mistakes and live in the moment! With A SIMPLE LIFE, Sister Deanie swept up many Best Actress awards. They all were surprises for her. Actually every time Sister Deanie never thought about reward. "The most important to do your part, after winning the Venice Best Actress I have recognition. Yet with the Golden Horse Award, I only felt that since people invited you and you were free, you should go out of courtesy. For the promotional effect of the film I went, of course winning an award was pleasant. I really have to be thankful and grateful." Hard Work Does Not Represent Success Sister Deanie admits that A SIMPLE LIFE is not her most satisfied work. Her favorite film is MURDER (WONG FUNG MEI HAU JUM) with Carol Cheng Yui Ling and Damien Lau Chung Yan, but this film did not bring much to her. The most satisfied yet without any reward, was it not very unfair? Sister Deanie joked, "This world has no unfairness, my motto is you have to work hard. Working hard doesn't mean that you will succeed, but not working hard you definitely won't succeed." Best Actress award has brought some careers to another level, but Sister Deanie who is 64 this year she only feels it is a perfect ending. "This can be said as a late spring, a flower in my twilight years. It isn't a new start. Because film is mainly a market that young viewer drives, I can't achieve the fast pace movies that they like, they won't accommodate you because you won an award. An award at age 63 is only a perfect ending." Hoping To Make Euthanasia Movie Accepting awards until her hands were numb, Sister Deanie has no regret in film. Yet she is still very "intense" about Hong Kong film. "It can't just be the same subjects, always police films. I really want to make some movies about euthanasia, can everyone examine something together? However without investment it doesn't work, actors are passive." As for her own regret, Sister Deanie admits that she truly has too many and can do nothing about it. "As long as I am not making mistakes that would give myself even more regret!" Currently Sister Deanie values health the most, she would ask anyone around her to quit smoking. Has she ever felt like a bother to others? She says, "Not right to my face, it's not that they don't have the guts to. It's just that they are polite. I don't feel I am bothering them, friends should be like that. It's the most basic moral principle. As long as I feel it's right I would speak up, I don't care if they like it or not. I am not afraid that people don't like me." Want to Review Common Astronomical Knowledge What is the strict rule that she adheres to? Sister Deanie says, "Everyday I have to exercise for a hour for health benefits. I hope to be able to review common astronomical knowledge once more; I want to play MOONLIGHT SONATA well in my lifetime; I also want to promote euthanasia, hopefully I can within my ability but I believe I can't in my lifetime." Sister Deanie extremely agrees with euthanasia because she feels that this is the final choice of life. "We don't have the right to choose to be born, we should have the right to choose to die. Yet actually even this final right isn't with us. I feel it's very unfair." Sister Deanie has not yet set up a will. She has not limited herself to complete what when. She feels that learning is endless, she even feels that she has not completed much in most of her life. "Movies shoots would be completed, songs would be finished, but I would ask for more. Otherwise it won't be fun. We have to live to the end and learn to the end." Heartache For Music -- Only Values Packaging Multiple Best Actress award winner Sister Deanie not only has god class acting but her singe also has been recognized. Yet speaking of the current music scene, her heart aches over the lack of quality. "In terms of world class, Hong Kong doesn't even get a C. It only wants hi fidelity, in recent years only (Hins) Cheung King Hin is pretty good. The Hong Kong audience has no knowledge of sound, thinking that sound is just like this. In order to have a better sound it would take one or two more days, but this is cost. Thus as long as the sound is there it's fine, which turns into a negative cycle. The Hong Kong Coliseum has been opened for 30 years, its sound has always been like this. The quality is low." "Used To Low Quality" Sister Deanie also blasts concert productions for only spending money on packaging, making people watch concerts instead of listening. "What kind of audience in Hong Kong yields what kind of artists. If the Hong Kong audience likes to see you perform flips on the stage and firework then you can make a living. Then you just do that, it's just making a living! However aren't you tired yet? Don't you want more? Do firework, dancers and confetti mean it's good? If so, the intelligence of Hong Kong people is pretty low. The audience only watches the packaging. Actually the audience absolutely has the right to choose. I can't do much, a small potato, I have no way to let people kow that we can't continue on like this. The declining quality has already become a habit. It's so pitiful that it would make people laugh at us!" - LAW MEI LUN 2. MING PAO DAILY, APRIL 1 2012, FILM WORDS PANG HO CHEUNG'S "LOVE" AND "VULGARIA" Pang Ho Cheung is an odd and platform crossing talent in the current film industry and becomes this Hong Kong International Film Festival's favorite. Its opening film is his written and directed LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING). His other new film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) also premieres in the film festival's "hallowed halls". Both are popular. The former is currently in release and crushed the foreign film hit THE HUNGER GAMES at its opening to land on top of the local box office chart. Rich Details, Strange And Funny Right now Pang Ho Cheung is in great shape. His new films, one about love and the other about sex, are both well within his control and both are lively and brutal. They have foul language and parodies, the merits of which of course would depend on the viewer. Yet undoubtedly they meet the new era of no taboo trend. LOVE IN THE BUFF in particular is smartly made. Although it has foul language and pranks, fortunately it maintains the romance and humor of feminine romantic comedy. Readily mouthing off without exceeding the morality bottom line, it can be said as harmless. It is the Pang Ho Cheung's work that best met the current mainstream mood. The last installment's smoking and dating LOVE IN THE BUFF was more masculine. This time LOVE is obviously more concerned with female taste. Cherie and Jimmy break up after romantic troubles and each goes to work in the Mainland. They each find new love in Beijing, run into each other in a foreign land and rekindle their old flame. Will they be able to continue their romance? This film meets the current climate of "hard to make a living in Hong Kong, trouble in the Mainland", but it no longer discriminate against the Mainland as outdated. It even has Hong Kong Chank self ridicule. The in-flight flight attendant sexual harassment joke conveniently uses "cultural difference" to make fun of how certain Hong Kong men destroy Hong Kong people's image, which is wonderful. Hong Kong women like Miriam Yeung Chin Wa while looking for a mate in Beijing are ridiculed as "Big Mama". Such awkward situations are even more satirical. Both Shawn Yue Man Lok and Yeung Chin Wa perform well, displaying Hong Kong people's adaptability with their experience. The longer they are in a foreign land the more they miss Hong Kong. As for the Mainland new flames, flight attendant Mini Yang Mi is pretty and romantic, middle age businessman Xu Zheng is simple and generous and values love and loyalty. Both are good people. LOVE IN THE BUFF is rich in details, with both human realism and strange yet funny tricks. In the opening the modern myth of a woman jinxing several boyfriends has nothing to do with the main plot but is exactly Pang Ho Cheung's expertise of fantasy and dark humor. He loves bathroom humor and this time he is also able to remove the odor, as the female lead runs into a nice man coming to her rescue in the bathroom. Conceivably female viewers would appreciate that hero coming to the rescue. In addition, another middle aged Hong Kong woman by chance runs into a lover who "suspiciously resembles" handsome star Huang Xiaoming and makes the Cinderella fairy tale funny. (three and a half out of five stars) Since writing and directing YOU SHOOT I SHOOT (MAI HUNG PAK YUN) in 2001, Pang Ho Cheung has made MEN SUDDENLY IN BLACK (DAI JEUNG FU), BEYOND OUR KEN (GUNG JU FOOK SAU GEI), AV, ISABELLA, EXODUS, TRIVIAL MATTERS (BOR SI YI), LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU), DREAM HOME (WAI DOR LEI AH YUT HO) and others. His work has been half good half bad, half cold half hot. Now he has made two new films in one breath. LOVE is very mainstream and stresses that true love must experience tests as Hong Kong man and woman after moving on still have a chance to reunite. The yet to be released VULGARIA lives up to its title as it is truly and thoroughly vulgar. Absolutely absurd, it still is funny. We shall see the response to it when it is released. Ultimately curious viewers should be mentally prepared for the daringly outrageous. LOVE ACTUALLY SUCKS: Loose And Messy This week's other Hong Kong film is the Scud (Wan Cheung) directed category III film LOVE ACTUALLY SUCKS. Scud has made CITY WITHOUT BASEBALL (MO YEH JI SING), PERMANENT RESIDENCE (WING GAU GUI LAU) and AMPHETAMINE (ON FEI TA MING) and other independent films. With a preference for naked male homosexuality. This time aside from naked men and homosexuality, the film also has heterosexual love. Mixing together several relationships, the film has many excessive but censored sex scenes. However, appearing the most in this film remains naked men. The heterosexual romance is very deranged, including sibling incest and the headless mystery of a heart broken mountain climber murdering his former girlfriend. The story originally is considered intriguing and exciting, but the writer and the director lose luster as the film becomes loose and messy. Its result is no match for AMPHETAMINE. Seemingly Scud is only suitable for making homosexual films. His handling of male female relationship instead is very poor. (one and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 3. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 1 2012, FILM AND TELEVISION TRAVERSAL WONG FEI HUNG MOVIES HAVE NOT PASSED ITS TIME When Wong Fei Hung is mentioned, we immediately think of Kwan Tak Hing. They seem to have merged into one and embedded themselves deeply into people's hearts; yet when speaking of early Hong Kong Cantonese films, Wu Peng's Wong Fei Hung films even occupied an important place, even led the way for the later Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and even Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit) kung fu films and brought Hong Kong produced kung fu film to the international stage and influence Hollywood action films. Thus, Wong Fei Hung movies in spreading Hong Kong kung fu and attracting international attention played an important role. In addition despite in recent years movies about Wong Fei Hung have not been made, this character is still the representative of justice in the hearts of Hong Kong people. The heroic figure that Wong Fei Hung movies created has been adjusted in different eras, with different writers and directors, but always remaining the same are his "master" image and his firm belief in the traditions of loyalty, filial piety, honor, righteousness, respecting masters and valuing morals. The Kwan Tak Hing played Wong Fei Hung even through his instructions to his disciples like Buck Teeth So, Porky Wing, Leung Foon and others communicated restraint and humility in treating people and handling matters, fighting injustice like a plague and truly spread the Confucian heroic ideas in Chinese wuxia novels; more importantly in the Hong Kong society then, they served on a certain level as positive and educational purpose. The villains who appeared in the film (mostly played by Shek Kei) not only propped up Wong Fei Hung's positive image but also had complementary elements. Lee Nin Kit's ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA era even took this character from the regional hero who fought for the weak to a national level and tightly connected him to the great era, transforming him into a hot blooded patriot who longed for a strong nation with even a touch of "driving out the braided foreigners and reviving China" and making Wong Fei Hung into "a master of a generation". In coordination with the objective actual environment of the time, Wong Fei Hung films of this period created an unprecedented influence. Also, Wong Fei Hung movies aside from the narrative also introduced details and rules of the Langnan climate and folk culture of the time like dragon dance, lion dragon and even the martial art world activity (in ring challenge), all of which viewers savored. Looking back from the first Wong Fei Hung film to now, over 60 years the times and moral ethnics have drastically changed as well. Yet the principles of life that were mentioned in the movies and the ways to treat people and handle matters are still suitable for use today and serve a cautionary purpose. - CHUI HIU 4. TA KUNG PAO, APRIL 1 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH FALSE EXPERT ANALYSIS IS ONLY GOOD FOR A LAUGH By chance I read an article that cited Hong Kong film industry can become another developmental industry. The writer claims to be an economist with "insight", thinking that he can be the policy designer to assist the Hong Kong economy stabilization and make Hong Kong economy thrive again. Unfortunately, too many "counterfeit experts" have destroyed 20 years of Hong Kong economy for personal gain. I am not familiar with other industries but is more certain about the film and television industry conditions. I truly long for insights for the industry. The article author points out that Hong Kong film and television industry advantage lies with packaging, but screenplay, music score and other "support categories" have not been able to break "existing limitations". He/she suggests that the film and television industry must head toward professional screenplay creation, another suggestion is to dub film and television products into English, Japanese and Korean to be sold around the world. After reading the entire article, at least I know that the film and television expert is a counterfeit. First, without asking Dr. Lee Tien-Ming anyone would know that an economy expert who discovers the film and television industries can become a developmental industry has no logical connection. In other words the economic expert bluff does not work with professional film and television people. More importantly, the suggestions have no data or information; they only have "Ma is a woman" and laughable concepts. What is the existing limitations of the Hong Kong film and television industry's screenplay, music score and other "support categories" (what are they)? Actually all that has to be said is our film and television industry screenplay and other professional quality is less than ideal, because "existing limitations" do not exist. Hong Kong has creative freedom and professional training schools and courses. Creative training is far better than in the 80s. As for why creativity cannot compare to the 80s, this is the question that we need to analyze. As for dubbing film and television products with foreign languages to sell around the world, this is truly a naive notion. An economic expert should know the reasons between supply and demand. Hong Kong film and television products that have overseas market already have subtitles or dubbing. Any dubbing would be useless for the ones without a market. Also, if the writer feels that the Hong Kong film and television industry screenplay creation is less than ideal, the products still cannot be revived in any language. Once a big director made a "giant production" that could not be sold to the American market. The big director felt that the subtitle translation was the issue and asked an expert to write it again, then fought with distributors about the quality of the text. Ironically, the director did not know English. This example actually has another meaning. Anyone who does not know English evaluating the quality of English is like anyone who does not know the film and television industry teaching people how to develop that industry. I also stress that different businesses are like being on different sides of a mountain. I truly do not dare to comment on other industry's condition. I never expect to read such an absurd article in an intellectual newspaper. - TIN LIK 5. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 31 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD NIGHTFALL SALUTES SUSPECT X The brothers and sisters of the Hong Kong Golden Forum's secondary creative abilities are rich. Many classic photoshop work and lyrics were better than the original. In this area NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO)'s female screenwriter Christine To Chi Long also had a lot of experience. Her previous film MURDERER (SAT YUN FAN) existed side by side with the foreign sister work ORPHAN, as they both thoroughly demonstrated the never aging disease. This time again coincided with the Japanese mystery novelist Keigo Higashino written and adapted into a film SUSPECT X. Five major scenes were extremely similar, with added Hong Kong film elements in hopes of Hong Kong film immortality. ACCIDENTAL MURDER The trigger of the SUSPECT story was when a mother and a daughter accidentally murdered a former husband. Finally the mother could not withstand the guilty and confessed, leading to a mysterious ending of when one person was murdered two corpses appeared. In comparison to SUSPECT's god class ending, although NIGHTFALL also accidentally killed Michael Wong Man Tak and Janice Man Wing Shan who was close to Candice Yu On On confessed in the end, to take care of Hong Kong film audience taste the film did not want too much complexity to consider the cause and effect. The end was simple yet smoothly wrapped up. DESTROYING THE CORPSE In SUSPECT Shinichi Tsutsumi as the murderer removed the victim's clothing, left with the corpse from the first murder site, then removed the victim's face, used a lighter to burn off the victim's finger prints to hide the victim's identity and left the victim's clothing to lead the police investigation to his predetermined direction. The goal was to protect the person he loved. The story involved thinking and plotting that was incredible. In NIGHTFALL Nick Cheung Kai handled Wong Man Tak's body in similar matter, first removing his face with a rock then removing his finger prints with a lighter. He deliberately set up the police to think that the culprit was male, meeting the usual Hong Kong film simple yet direct mystery method. Deliberately Leaving Evidence While removing the corpse's real identity, in SUSPECT Shinichi Tsutsumi deliberately left a bicycle for the police to investigate in the direction that he intended. He put suspicion on himself, seemingly sloppy but actually deliberately removing the suspicion from the mother and the daughter in the film. Coincidentally, NIGHTFALL's Cheung Ka Fai also deliberately left a button from his clothing in Wong Man Tak's mouth, then fearing the police was impotent he directly attacked investigator Kay Tse On Kay in her own home. Again he left a button for the police to follow. In the end he even through Tse On Kay's mouth he said "No different from a confession" to explain himself. Redirecting The Focus Cheung Ka Fai in NIGHTFALL left a note to threaten Man Wing Shan in order to create evidence for the police to redirect its focus onto himself and in order to protect the person he loved he confessed. In SUSPECT Shinichi Tsutsumi also used a note to threaten the person he loved, the goal of which was for her to hate him so when he turned himself in later she would not tell the truth out of guilty. Perfect Team In both film a god class couple appeared, Simon Yam Tat Wa relentlessly seek the truth, just like in SUSPECT Masaharu Fukuyama who played Galileo. Through their logic and investigation the truth floated to the surface. In addition, Tse On Kay's anti intellectualism served the same purpose as Kou Shibasaki's, making the film's male lead stand out more intelligently. The character was like Watson in Sherlock Holmes. Synopsis NIGHTFALL Cheung Ka Fai 20 years ago went to prison for murder, leaving his daughter Man Wing Shan for Yu On On and Wong Man tak to raise. After his release he paid attention to his daughter's status. One day he discovered that his daughter accidentally killed her adoptive father. Ka Fai tried every trick to create evidence that would benefit the mother and the daughter, even risking leaving evidence that would be detrimental to him for the police to suspect him. Under Yam Tat Wa's endless deduction and investigation, finally the entire case was solved. SUSPECT X Genius mathematician Ishigami had a crush on the divorcee Yasuko with a daughter. After he learned that the mother and the daughter accidentally killed Yasuko's former husband, Ishigami created alibis for them and at the same time murdered a third person to disguise as the corpse of Yasuko's former husband. He redirected the police's focus and left a lot of evidence for the police to turn its investigation toward him. Finally under Galileo's relentlessly investigation he found out the truth. - LEE SAM [ In Production Now/Soon ] TOGETHER Can : Joi Yut Hei d. Opening March 29 2012 Opening July 9 2011 at the Philadelphia QFest Official Site: http://www.loveactuallysucks.com/ Site : http://www.qfest.com/film-details.cfm?id=9918 [ OFFICIAL SITE ] Love is life, life as it is. Not every love story is a fairy tale. After a dramatic wedding feast, unusual love stories unfold towards unexpected endings: a brother and sister in love caught by the mother, a married painter falls for his young life drawing model of same sex, an intimacy between a dance school teacher and his wealthy but senior student, a lesbian couple of which one has role-play paranoid, a dreadful love triangle ending with the girl being beheaded… "Love Actually…Sucks!" celebrates love that no one care but real, for life is love, love as it is. [ PHILADELPHIA QFEST ] Taking inspiration from six different court cases involving crimes of the heart, Scud examines the intense, often self-destructive sexual longings among several well-to-do young Hong Kong residents – gay, lesbian and straight. The film opens with the most scandalous wedding reception ever put on film: a young couple’s marriage ends (in the most dramatic fashion) before it begins. There is the 30-ish married gym instructor who trolls the active bathroom scene for young flesh; a lesbian couple with roleplay issues; a dance instructor who becomes the object of attraction to his much older student; a married painter who falls for his male model; a brother and sister who take family togetherness a bit too literally; and a young man who becomes increasingly deranged until he takes his love interest problems into his own hands. In Scud’s world, every love story is a fairy tale – but here the stories are sexual and troubling. Overall, a complex, sensual and compelling film. Ever since Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sang “It’s a Fine Romance” in 1936’s Swing Time, movies have been bowing down to the power of love. Unfortunately, Hollywood just doesn’t make romantic comedies the way they used to and these days if you’re looking for love in an American movie, you’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Thank Aphrodite for Korea. Ever since My Sassy Girl broke box office records in 2001, the Korean film industry has been making some of the funniest, most outrageously swoony movie romances, and for this series we’ve picked three of the best. Tuesday, APRIL 10, 2012 @ 7pm PETTY ROMANCE (2010, 118 minutes) A word-of-mouth hit in 2010, this romance is set in the world of manhwa (Korean comic books), and the couple at the center of the story have chemistry to burn. TV star Lee Seon-Gyun is a struggling manhwa artist who enters a competition with a massive cash prize. To raise his chances of winning, he hires a sex advice columnist, Choi Gang-Heui (star of the breakout hit, My Scary Girl), to write his erotic comic. Little does he know that she plagiarized her column from the Kama Sutra and the Kinsey Report because her ideas about sex are a bit…vague, to put it kindly. PETTY ROMANCE been winning hearts and minds on the film festival circuit for a year and it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
