Shu Qi thus removed her microblog, which attracted online discussions. yesterday Shu Qi's fan club revealed that Shu Qi said she was great on her official site, of course she also had some not so good days too but she thanked people who have harmed her. Yesterday the fan club posted RETURN TO THE SIMPLE BEGINNING, which was also the first public comment since Shu Qi removed her microblog. "She is very good, but of course she also has some days that aren't so good. She thanked the people who harmed her. The past is not her scar, but a story of her journey. I think she feels proud. Encourage each other with good intention in the heart, encourage each other with good intention in the heart." This post mentioned Shu Qi said that mutual blames and criticisms would only add to the negative energy and that the microblog was a place for release. Hopefully people who need help in the future will receive even more attention. Hopefully from now on there will be no more dispute and even more warmth. In addition, the always direct director Feng Xiaogang scolded people who insulted Shu Qi online and told Shu Qi that she still has a name Siu Siu (Smile, her character name in the Feng Xiaogang directed IF YOU ARE THE ONE). Feng Xiaogang posted, "Shu Qi closed her microblog because she couldn't stand the dirty insult. She is a friend who I respect. Her most valuable quality is her kindness. I can't accept some people would insult her with such cruel language. Can I scold people? Some would definitely say, you can't. Because you are a public figure. You are wrong, I absolutely wouldn't let this identity kidnap me. Shu Qi, don't forget, you still have a name Siu Siu." Denise Ho Wan Si posted that Shu Qi was a very beautiful woman from the inside out and comforted Shu Qi not to be heartbroken over some nonsense. Yen Chi Tan posted an apology online to Shu Qi and others. "Thank you friends for your support, at the same time because of your sense of justice, I am sorry that everyone is dragged in needlessly. Toward the out of control online violence, I feel powerless, heartache and anger! I still say what I said a week ago, 'If you want to bully someone come here!' The unjust will self-destruct, please consider." * (2012/03/28) Joyce Cheng Yun Yi yesterday unveiled the City, Things & Nature art exhibit as its special guest and received a fan from Japanese artist Ryu Itadani. Itadani even donated his work HONG KONG for a charity auction. Yun Yi revealed that she will work on a Hong Kong comedy and make an appearance that no one has ever seen. She happily said, "This character is similar to me and I have always wanted to play the character. The happiest was during the audition the director and the producer both said that they have this character that they only want me to play. So I was very happy. Acting isn't my strong suit, this is a great learning opportunity." In the past Yun Yi has guest starred in films, but this time was the first time that she had a character name. Thus she was particularly excited. Would he have to make any preparation? She said that she would speak more Chinese and sing more karaoke because she truly learned a lot of Chinese from it. Would she need to dress up for the performance? She joked, "No need, my look is already funny enough. (Will you impersonate (Kate) Tsui Tsz Shan again?)) Actually I have said several dozen times, she was impersonating me. Because I have been in the business for over 20 years, she has been in it for less than ten." * (2012/03/28) Peter Chan Ho Sun and Sandra Ng Kwan Yu yesterday attended the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival -- Filmmaker in Focus. Chan Ho Sun's work, poster and costumes were on display. Chan Ho Sun, Ng Kwan Yu and their daughter attended as well as Kwan Yu's parents, Anita Yuen Wing Yi, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and others. At the time he was conflicted, after spending several months he finally decided to do it. The film festival also published a book for him to look back at the first half of his life. He said, "Some places would make friends uncomfortable, but some are worth being proud of." At this time, Peter could not help but wipe away his tears. He thanked his parents, his departed mother and daughter Chan Si Chi, as well as the old lady who has to tolerate him for several more decades. Reporters told Peter that this was the first time he called Kwan Yu his wife. Peter said, "It's just a line, no difference, we have been together for a long time already." Kwan Yu did not pay attention to Peter calling her old lady but instead hated this title the most. She said, "It makes me all old, once a flight attendant called me Mrs. Chan, I immediately debated for a long time." Peter also said, "Old lady and Mrs. Chan are two different matter. Mrs. Chan comes with a man, old lady is a relationship, an equal to a old man." Kwan Yu said that at first she thought about giving their daughter her last name because their daughter usually liked to be close to her mother, but finally decided to give her her father's last name. As for Peter's tearful speech, Peter said, "Because at the time Mommy was sick, by middle age a person experiences a lot. Friends tell me that I am a very stubborn and very subjective person. Working with me is pretty painful. I never yell at anyone, scolding is always the dumbest." Kwan Yu also said, "I was the most sentimental that Peter said having to tolerate several more decades. My heart had chills, he already tolerated me for 15 years." Kwan Yu jokingly said to Peter, "Change a little." Which was Chan Ho Sun's favorite work? He said that he liked them almost all evenly, his favorite was PERHAPS LOVE (YU GOR OI). Yuen Wing Yi said that when she watched the footage her memory came back. She said, "At the time film productions were very happy, had team spirit. Aside from Best Actress, Peter also got me the Best Newcomer." Did Yuen Wing Yi still have the acting bug? She said that she has not retired yet. Peter also told her not to be in a hurry and to have patience, because being in a hurry would not yield performance. Jeana is very hard working, both are talented, one with the figure and the other with talent." Dash also revealed that George Lam Chi Cheung's son Lam Tak Shun on the set was very popular with the girls, but he joked that like his father he too was a man of few words. He joked that their home should be very low carbon because no on spoke. As for being popular with girls, Lam Tak Shun immediately blushed and said, "No, on the set I neither slept or listened to music." Would he invite his father to the movie? He admitted that he would not watch it with his father because watching his own performance was somewhat awkward. * (2012/03/27) Taiwan star Michelle Chen recently with Ivy Chen, Joseph Cheng worked on the costume film FA YEUNG (RIPPLE). The director in order for the two women's costumes to be more classical asked them not to wear underwear and to tie down their chests for a flat effect. Michelle Chen joked that because she only used pasties her halter top kept slipping off, which forced her to grab tightly to the clothes in front of her chest. Joseph Cheng joked that he could not take anymore. Because of the cold at the location, Ivy Chen in order to stay warm before places drank Kaoliang (sorghum wine). She claimed that her tolerance was decent, on par with Jerry Yan (Yin Sing Yuk). * (2012/03/27) Anthony Wong Chau Sun posted a photo with his god son Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) and the INITIAL D (TAU MAN JI D) vehicle, which led to speculation of a sequel. He said, "We are talking about SECRET (BUT NUNG SHUET DIK BEI MUK) sequel! (Brigitte Lin was rumored to take part?) I don't know, Jay just talked to me about my character, and asked me to save my May schedule for him." * (2012/03/27) The Pang Ho Cheung directed, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Mini Yang Mi starred comedy LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) will be released on the 30th nationwide. Two nights ago the film held its Beijing premiere; Chin Wa due to pregnancy and Yang Mi due to high fever were both absent. Another supporting actress dressed provocatively and successfully stole the show. Other guests included Zhang Jingchu and Bibi Zhou Bichang. Pang Ho Cheung was full of confidence in the new film box office and even stated that if the box office performance was good he would make a third film. He again reminded viewers to wait until after the credits before leaving because the end credit had a very surprising "super Easter egg". Lead Yue Man Lok recently promoted the film everywhere. He said, "This film promotion is the most united in my career. I have made movies for ten years, I have never had a film promotion that was this united. Yeung Chin Wa due to pregnancy couldn't travel with us, but everyday she has been in contact with us about the film. I believe this power is very influential." * (2012/03/27) According to online information, Shu Qi due to her comment that Donnie Yen Chi Tan as "professional and serious" during his war of words with Vincent Zhao Wenzhou was accidentally swept into it. Her claim to fame erotic costume photos were dug up again. According to the latest online news, since March 26 2012 1:30AM, Shu Qi removed all of her microblog and cancelled all following. Currently Shu Qi has 10.12 million fans online. Passionate online discussions have begun about Shu Qi's accidental involvement into the war of words, subsequent postings of her early erotic photos and over 1,000 postings removal. Many online lamented, "You can argue all you want but what's wrong other people with only stating their stance? Picking at people's old scars, can such a large China accept Sora Aoi but not Shu Qi?" The war of words between Zhao Wenzhou and Yen Chi Tan led to star divisions. Shu Qi once posted online, "Yen Chi Tan is serious about everything and tries his best to make every shot the most perfect. Even when the weather turns cold and his body is shivering, as soon as he hears action Yen Chi Tan would immediately perform with passion without any complaint." She never expected such a comment would sweep her into the war of words unexpectedly. Joy media film promotion director Liao Baojun also pointed that although he has not known Shu Qi for long, at work and in life he found her to be a sincere, kind, easy going woman. Last night his heart ached and ached for her as she removed one post after another on her microblog. Such a kind person withstood such much attack and harm before removing one posting after another online, he wished that people online would spare her. As for people whose rage burnt to people who were not connected, they do not deserve any respect. As for people who do not understand and cherish someone else bidding farewell to their past, no one would cherish them either. Hopefully she will be able to be as strong as she has always been. Go Shu Qi! * (2012/03/27) The Lu Chuan directed summer epic THE LAST SUPPER yesterday held a global "start of the feast" press conference. The director and actors including Liu Ye, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Chang Chen, Qin Lan and Huo Siyan appeared together and announced the film's first concept trailer and the 14 characters' concept photos. The investors and the creative team inventively used a sword that was hidden inside a fish shaped cake to cut the cake and announced the official "start of the feast". Lu Chuan said that the sword hidden in the fish belly was a historical fact and a very exciting and important idea in the film. Thus he used it for the promotion! The trailer's theme was Liu Bang's nightmare and through Liu Bang's point of view displayed the turbulence history that was full of killing and rivalry between Xiang Yu, Han Xin, Empress Lu, Xiao He, Zhang Liang and other heroes. A self proclaimed "history buff", Lu Chuan for the film studied ancient history for eight months. In the trailer Liu Bang's line "Qin Imperial Palace is a key that can open everyone's deepest desires" showed that this film not only talked about war and power but also humanity and betrayal, ideal and self. Lu Chuan said, "THE LAST SUPPER is not the Hong Gate Banquet. It is the fate of a group of people. It isn't just a banquet but a historical truth." The actors also unveiled each character photo from drawing straws. The Ng Yin Cho version Xiang Yu's dark domination, the Liu Ye version Liu Bang's wild carelessness, the Chang Chen version Han Xin's tragic heaviness, the Qin Lan version Empress Lu's weathered grandeur were completely opposite the actors' own image because the director hoped to bring back a real historical figure in front of the audience. * (2012/03/26) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and Julian Cheung Chi Lam earlier worked on their film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG) in Kowloon Tong. That night after they shot an argument, Sum Yau ran into Chilam's arms and cried for her final scene of the shoot. Thus the film company boss Stephen Shiu Jr. brought champagne to visit the set and celebrate. Sum Yau was very happy about the wrap but was reluctant to part, as she thanked the team for its care. Because Sum Yau was shooting a crying scene that night, before places she sat alone in the corner to cultivate her emotions. Originally frowning, she smiled sweetly as soon as she mentioned rumored boyfriend Kevin Cheng Ka Wing, but she at first stressed that their chance to develop was zero. "No, entertainment news is just for everyone to laugh at, now we won't have any chance to develop. I don't want to give people the impression that we have a chance. This depends on fate." Later she changed her tune and admitted that no one could predict the future. She said, "It would depend on fate, love needs feeling, whether the person is in or out of the industry it doesn't matter." Was she worried that the rumors would scare off suitors? Sum Yau said, "Not much to worry about, love too has to take its natural course." Chilam said that he still has one more day before completion. He hoped to have a chance to have dinner with the entire team later. Director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) said that he would continue to make different subject romantic films every year and revealed that he was in negotiation for several films. * (2012/03/25) Mini Yang Mi two days ago promoted the Pang Ho Cheung film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) in Guangzhou when she suddenly came down with a 40 degree (Celsius) fever. She remained professional and insisted on attending the events. She only cancelled interviews. After the events she rushed to the hospital. Yang Mi appeared and apologized to the media that has been waiting for a long time. "Today I am very sorry. Originally the make up was done already, but my fever reached 40 degrees. My body truly can't persevere." Pang Ho Cheung held down the fort alone. He humorously said that he would wait for LOVE IN THE BUFF to pass 200 million at the box office in peace. * (2012/03/25) Janice Man Wing Shan in the film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) played Michael Wong Man Tak's daughter. Two nights ago she attended an event with Wong Man Tak's wife Janet Ma Si Wai and joked that she was lucky enough to meet "Mother". Speaking of NIGHTFALL's box office, Janice said that she knew it reached over 9 million and headed for 10 million. Would Janice appear in a bikini to celebrate? She said that was not her style and would leave this surprise for Nick Cheung Ka Fai to do. Janice even revealed that she took a beating in all four of her recent films. She joked that she hoped to have a chance for resurrection in a future film; she also would ask Leon Lai Ming for acting advice. In addition, speaking of the child abuser in the film Wong Man Tak, Janet said that her husband has never hit their children. However once because the children would not listen he threw a tantrum and the DVD player, which was rather effective. Speaking of their daughters in the U.S., Janet revealed that the 16 year old younger daughter was in her first romance and even sent her Korean boyfriend's photo to her. She believed that her daughter would not behave excessively with her boyfriend. * (2012/03/25) Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Janice Man Wing Shan, Kay Tse On Kay and Candy Yu On On starred in NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO), which after 9 days in release accumulated 10,405,921 as of the 23rd and broke the 10 million mark. Fellow March Hong Kong film reward A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) also shone, after 15 days in release its cumulative box office was 20,198,637 and broke the 20 million mark. Earlier Ka Fai even went to the movies for audience reaction and the audience applauded enthusiastically to cheer him on. Ka Fai two nights ago went to Cyberport to support himself. Although he entered in a low profile and sat in the back, viewers recognized him right away. However no one bothered Ka Fai during the movie. At the end, the audience suddenly stood up and applauded to praise and cheer Ka Fai. He could not be happier. Ka Fai excitedly said, "The sudden surprise was truly high and touching! As for the 10 million breaking performance, I was the happiest to see everyone going to the movies to watch it." Ka Fai said that the film had many memorable scenes like the naked fight with Ken Low Wai Kwong in prison and the jump into the sea, which left deep impressions with him. Ka Fai bitterly laughed and said, "The jump into the sea was shot on a very col day. I was shivering when I saw the sea. I told myself if I die, I die, I still have to jump! Finally I exceeded my expectation and finished it in one take. The moment I got into the water I was wide awaken! It was a memorable experience." Director Roy Chow Hin Yeung was very grateful and said that he wanted to express his appreciation for the audience and the elders. He said, "This performance is better than my previous summer release, which proved that the audience has confident in Hong Kong films. I sincerely wish that young directors will have even larger development space in the future." Tse On Kay also said that this performance was memorable and she was very happy to take part. * (2012/03/25) Today, the Hsu Li-kong produced film JOYFUL REUNION starred Blue Lan and Huo Siyan came to Shenzhen to promote the film. Huo Siyan said, "I have zero resistance against Taiwan food, during the shoot I gained 3 kilograms over two weeks. The film almost had to stop production for me to lose weight." Huo Siyan said, "In the film two men fought over a woman, I was very fortunate. In real life if I ran into such excellent men I definitely would be stuck between a rock and a hard place." Huo Siyan praised Lan Cheng Long's humor but called him "durian". She joked, "As soon as I met Lan Cheng Long our first scene was an argument, because he was very in character he felt prickly all over like a durian. His cold exterior would keep many at bay, but after real contact I discovered that he like durian had his own unique aura. Instead you could easily be trapped as he was a perfectly good man." Then, Huo Siyan said that Joseph Chang was mango, with something inside, sunshine and familiar. She said, "With these two types of men, both love water sports, in reality wouldn't they really be hard choices?" During the process, Huo Siyan said that she was very honored to be able to bring this film to Berlin and recommend this love story with Chinese food in its center to the world. Reporters asked why she chose to wear red to promote the film. Huo Siyan said that the film needed to express love that was very strong and needed to be savored. She dressed up in order to represent this love. She also said about her view on love. "In the film my character Wa'er represents many people in society today. I feel this is a type of 'lost love syndrome'. Under the pressure of busy life, many already don't know how to love or how to enjoy being loved. Such a life is truly very tragic." The film has already been selected to be the 62nd Berlin Film Festival Culinary Cinema segment closing film. JOYFUL REUNION will open nationally on March 29. * (2012/03/25) Hong Kong director James Yuen Sai Sun recently blamed Film producer Allen Tan for stealing his script FAKE AND REAL PHOENIX (GA FUNG JUNG WONG) and changing its to the now Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi and Kang Sang-Woo starred film SHADOW OF LOVE (YING JI OI YUN). Yuen Sai Sun over a year ago in Beijing through Bruce Law Lai Yin's introduction met the Taiwan film producer Tan, who began to talk about the film project with him. Thus Yuen Sai Sun showed him his original screenplay GA FUNG JUNG WONG, but nothing came of their collaboration. Early June last year, Yuen Sai Sun from a third party and a worker on the production learned that the Cheung Pak Chi and Kang Sang-Woo starred film SHADOW OF LOVE actually was the story that Yuen Sai Sun participated in and wrote. Pak Chi's character, story and even name were identical to GA FUNG JUNG WONG. The idea was the same as well. The film's producer was Allen Tan. Yuen Sai Sun not only reserved all rights to sue the film SHADOW OF LOVE original version copyright violation but also wrote to the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild and Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild for help in hopes that they would obtain justice for him. Yesterday the Federation of Hong Kong Filmmakers, Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild and Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild issued a joint statement, citing that the alleged copyright violation dispute over the original story GA FUNG JUNG WONG between Hong Kong director and screen writer Yuen Sai Sun and Taiwan producer Allen Tan was already in the hands of the Hong Kong Federation of Filmmakers, the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild and Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild. They have sent representatives to follow up with those involved. Through mutual consultations, Fu Hu Die Shi Dai Ying Shi Culture company has purchased all the rights to the GA FUNG JUNG WONG story and the related dispute has already been resolved. * (2012/03/24) Rose Chan Ka Wun and boss Checkley Sin Kwok Lam two nights ago attended the Movie Producers And Distributors Association of Hong Kong held forum. Rose shared the hardship of her career. Her boss Sin Kwok Lam talked about a film's planning and production process. Rose was teary eyed when she recalled her past. Aside from all the injuries from fight scenes, she admitted that she suffered from wire work for a film. "I used to be afraid that I would feel nauseous from wire work. Although the shoot was long, I chose not to eat all day." * (2012/03/24) Michael Wong Man Tak two nights ago attended a German luggage brand new store opening in Macau. Guests also included models Kathy Chow Man Kei, Mikki Yao, Cara G, and Jocelyn Luko. Wong Man Tak in the new film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) played a deranged father. After making the film he too felt uneasy and did not want his children to watch the film as he was worried that it would affect their image of him. He said, "My daughter are studying overseas and aren't in Hong Kong, I hope for my son to wait several years before he watches. My wife and I have never hit our children." He admitted that during the shoot he was too in character, for several days he would get angry very easily. Luckily he was able to leave his character. * (2012/03/24) The film BEAUTIFUL 2012 (MEI HO 2012) two nights ago held its premiere. The film consisted of four segments, one of which, MY WAY, was Ann Hui On Wa directed. Two nights ago Ann attended with actors Francis Ng Chun Yu and Jade Leung Jung. Chun Yu and Leung Jung in MY played a couple, but Chun Yu finally decided to get a gender change operation. He admitted that this was the most difficult character in his career. In addition he only had one time to explore it since work began the next day, he could only utilize his decades of acting experience and hoped it would become his best acting work. Chun Yu admired Ann very much and joked that her previous film NIGHT AND FOG (TIN SHUI WAI DIK YUT YU YEH) should have asked him to play the deranged killer. However he still lost to Simon Yam Tat Wa even though salary was not an issue for him. He also hoped to work on some alternative characters, which were easily to leave a deep impression with people. Leung Jung praised Chun Yu's portrayal of a transgender person. His every move was exactly like a woman's, he was more woman than her. During the shoot the director asked three transgenders to assist the actors with their performance on the set. Leung Jung complimented them on their gentle ways and great skin. Chun Yu also joked, "No wonder your (on screen) husband wants a sex change." * (2012/03/24) The March 29th release LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) two nights ago held a premiere. Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa attended the promotion. The pregnant Chin Wa said that two nights ago was her final public even before he maternity leave. However, she stressed that if she had time she still would go out because staying at home was truly dull. The 5 month pregnant Chin Wa this time appeared in flats. Her husband Real Ting Chi Ko did not arrived until right before the show started. Two nights ago many industry insiders including Edmond Leung Hong Man, Teddy Robin Kwan, Peter Chan Ho Sun and others attended the premiere. Chin Wa said that a friend after watching the first film immediately held hands with a companion. She after making the film was pregnant soon after. Lok Jai also boasted that LOVE was good for husband and children, and romance. Lok Jai said, "I am very happy that all three movies are able to perform well, and believe that viewers will watch them all." Chin Wa also revealed that two nights ago was her last public event before her maternity leave. Even though she would very much like to promote in the Mainland with Lok Jai and travel, her husband did not even permit her to go to Macau. Chin Wa joked, "I am not allowed on Boss (Peter) Lam Kin Ngok's private plane either!" Chin Wa thanked everyone for their promotional effort and even revealed that earlier when she watched another premiere the child in her belly kept kicking her. She recalled, "At the time the baby kicked until the morning and made me lose sleep, maybe because it saw Lok Jai holding my hand to attend the event it felt displeased." Did Chin Wa sleep enough? She said, "The straight road from now until the end I will properly rest, but I will go outside too because I am very afraid of being bored!" Chan Ho Sun after watching LOVE IN THE BUFF two nights ago praised it as very entertaining and gave him a pleasant surprise. He felt that it was the most entertaining romantic film in the past dozen year or so. The film from the beginning to the end had a lot of emotions, like watching Woody Allen movies when he was little. Yet this film was even more conventional and general, a romance that people could relate to. Eason Chan Yik Shun said that after watching he was somewhat upset because he did not take part. He said, "It's very entertaining. I never guess that their acting would be so good. Pregnant lady truly is different, good looking guy also doesn't mean that he has no acting ability." * (2012/03/24) Janice Man Wing Shan and Anthony Wong Yiu Ming two nights ago attended a certain brand's event. Janice Man's film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) performed well. She revealed that she did not know whether the film will have a sequel and stated that someone should ask the investors. She was already very happy doing her part and seeing Hong Kong film getting support. She also revealed that recently she would mainly attend trendy events and make real money, because earlier she focused on acting in the Mainland and promoting. She also hoped that next month she will be able to move from her old home. * (2012/03/24) The film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) not only brought five Best Actress awards to Deanie Ip Tak Han but also headed toward 20 million at the box office. The film company two nights ago held a celebration. Leads Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sister Deanie attended. Sister Deanie even wore almost 3 million worth of sponsored jewelry and stated that she would drink two spoonful of brandy to celebrate. Other attending actors included Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Queenie Chu Wai Man, Elena Kong Mei Yi, Eva Lai Yin San, Tam Bing Man and Leung Tin. Since the film was heading toward 20 million at the box office, Wa Jai would no longer lose money. Sister Deanie admitted that she was very happy and also said that Hong Kong people actually like Hong Kong films, but action films are more popular. Now A SIMPLE LIFE is popular she felt very grateful. She believed that because everyone has been starving fo this type of movie for too long and proven that Wa Jai's investment vision was right. As for the rumored prequel, Sister Deanie said great then said, "The prequel is about the young Sister Peach, people are OK with me playing older. Playing younger would be gross, better off finding someone else!" She felt that she should quit while she was ahead. She truly did not understand business and making money, so she would not add her opinion. Did she celebrate her "Asian Best Actress" victory? She said, "That night I already ate vegetable to celebrate because Wa Jai taught me not to have starch at night. The next day during media interviews I had half a piece of dark chocolate and Napoleon, they were beautiful. (Are you confident about winning a sixth Best Actress Award?) Even odds, I am at peace with it!" Was the jewelry her own? She joked, "Stolen." Later she said that where would she have so much money for jewelry, a friend thought that if she dressed up with another jewelry for accessory she would look shabby. Even though she was used to being shabby, since someone sponsored her she would try to wear them as much as she could. Normally she would be very simple and rarely wore jewelry. Will her next celebration be for becoming a god grandmother? She joked, "Wa Jai doesn't like it, don't talk about it." Wa Jai was very happy and even pointed out that everyone loved Hong Kong film very much. The media and the critics helped the film a lot and enabled them to comfortably find cinemas for its release. Everyone cooperated very well and was a positive force in recent years. Will it strengthen his confidence in investing? He said that even if it did not make money his state of mind would not change. He said, "No matter how things develop, they have to have direction. Direction is very important." Wa Jai also said that he never thought about making a prequel and would not use director Ann Hui On Wa to make even more money. However now she indeed could easily find investors and he would discover other directors. Speaking of Kelly Chen Wai Lam becoming a mother again, Wa Jai said that he already congratulated her and was very happy for her. Has he prepared to rest to keep her pregnant wife company? He only said, "OK! Everything has already been arranged. I am very calm." Was it because they have not reached the final stage of pregnancy yet? He shook his hand and said, "OK! OK!" * (2012/03/23) Vincent Zhao Wenzhou crossed the DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) production team and even publicly blamed Donnie Yen Chi Tan as the behind the scene dark hand. Chi Tan later issued a statement to strike back. Yesterday the DUT production even held a Hong Kong Film Market press conference and issued a statement to the media to deny that Chi Tan was arrogant on the set, that Chi Tan once insisted on casting Zhao Wenzhou but because the production had no way to withstand Zhao Wenzhou's high hotel fee, along with his refusal to accept work order and fruitless communication, finally the production decided to go on without him. Yesterday DUT's producer Zhang Wang and director Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung). They immediately issued a statement in response to Zhao Wenzou's comments. The statement pointed out that Zhao Wenzhou's recent high profile defamation expression not only harmed Yen Chi Tan's personal reputation but also created enormous harm to the film, the production and the investors. Thus the production after discussion felt the need to call for a press conference to clarify. Zhang Wang said that the least acceptable of Zhao Wenzhou's "domineering" demand of a hotel chairman suite. He said, "I am a producer, money to me is the most important. The subsequent refusal to accept notices, fruitless communication are all reasons we gave up on Zhao Wenzhou. As for the room cost, I especially need to clarify. Many newspapers published it as a presidential suite, actually it was a chairman suit -- no discount for that. I also read what Zhao Wenzhou said. We wanted to give him a raise, he declined and would rather live a little better. This is incorrect. He first made the 'domineering' demand. I was helpless so I expressed hope to give him a raise, hoping that he would stay in the original executive suite." The statement also pointed out that during the production's difference of opinion over room cost, because Chi Tan insisted on casting Zhao Wenzhou the production could only helplessly choose to agree to Zhao Wenzhou's demand. Because Chi Tan felt that Zhao Wenzhou was an excellent action actor, he always hoped that he could stay with the production. Fok Yiu Leung said that action director Chi Tan yesterday was busy with the final fight scene. As for Andy On Chi Kit taking over Zhao Wenzhou's character, Fok Yiu Leung said that On Chi Kit was not a replacement. They added a character that was different from Zhao Wenzhou's character. He said, "Because of his departure, we had to adjust the script so we added the new character." As for some media's accusation that the war of words was the production speculation for the film. Zhang Wang helplessly said, "I had no intention at all to speculate, we only felt that if we didn't speak up, a lot of facts would be twisted. Thus we had to tell the truth." He hoped through yesterday's clarification the matter would come to an end. Because the cast change already caused the production several million in losses, now he only hoped for the filming to be completed properly. * (2012/03/23) The recently released new film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) after seven days in release reached 8.99 million at the box office. Two nights ago the cast including Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Janice Man Wing Shan and Candice Yu On On went to an Admiralty cinema for viewer appreciation. After that they celebrated at a restaurant. Kay Tse On Kay due to work was unable to attend. At the celebration they opened bottles of champagne and cut cakes. The workers even brought out an iPad for a video chat with Tse On Kay. Ka Fai admitted that he was deeply pleased with the box office success. He said that in his career this was the performance that exceeded himself, thus he was very excited. He said, "The Monday and Tuesday box office were over 900,000. The weekend's was over 2 million. Unfortunately when the results came out I wasn't in Hong Kong. I couldn't share it with people around me as I was afraid that people thought I was arrogant. However I was very happy inside. Sometimes in the hotel room I would suddenly laugh!" As for the possibility of a sequel, Brother Wa even said that he could lose weight for the shoot. Ka Fai said, "It's very tough, if he is willing then go on. The weight loss for this film was very harmful to the body, the process wasn't easy either!" He said that he was not a fit person and never weight trained. After the shoot he relaxed and ate normally. The recovery normally would require seven month. If he had to do it again he truly had to carefully consider it. He joked, "I have to have a chat with liver and lungs!" Ka Fai admitted that next time he worked on a drama, he would like it to be a horror film that did not have to keep the Mainland market in mind. Ka Fai said, "I don't want to make a comedy. Initially I have talked with (Oxide) Pang Shun. He has this idea too, but very few bosses would make pure domestic film. So we have to have a long range plan!" As for whether he was willing to take a pay cut, he said that if all would go well he would not mind. He could try to take a little less. Yam Tat Wa earlier worked with Korean star Gianna Jun Ji-Hyun on a film. Brother Wa said that Jun Ji-Hyun's favorite was Macau's almost cake. Today after going to Taiwan he will promote the film in Korea, he will give her almond cakes for her wedding present. As for the wedding, he said, "I can't go because of work. Lately I have been busy working with (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu in Taiwan on the film FA YEUNG (RIPPLE). The weather was cold and with a fever I still had to work. I also had a thousand arrow scene so it was very tough!" Brother Wa spent his birthday in Hong Kong, his daughter gave her a birthday card and a little cake. In addition, he honestly said that he has not seen NIGHTFALL but has seen A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). He said, "Sister Deanie performed very well. This time was win win for both films. I wish for Hong Kong film to return to life. Since I was born in Hong Kong I hope it would make even more quality films!" * (2012/03/23) Connie Chan Bo Chu earlier accepted a cable program interview. Sister Bo Chu talked about her film past. Sister Bo Chu has made over 100 films. Her favorites were THE PREGNANT MAIDEN (YUK NUI TIM DING), LADY BOND (NUI SAT SAU) and ETERNAL LOVE (WU BUT GUAI). She felt that THE PREGNANT MAIDEN's character was very similar to hers. Because she was mischievous , at the time she displayed her own personality. Back then fans of Chan Bo Chu and Josephine Siao Fong Fong were constantly at odds. Sister Bo Chu pointed out that at the time Sister Fong Fong's fans gave her the nickname "fat pig butt", at the time she did not know she was fat. She even thought she was very pretty. She said, "Maybe because I was very simple. I didn't think about anything at all. I was a glutton, fans often bought chicken legs and roasted duck legs for me. I could sleep at any moment too, so I got fat easily." Sister Bo Chu revealed that Sister Fong Fong's nickname was "Roasted chicken Fong" because she was thin. Sister Bo Chu pointed out that when she and Fong Fong worked on LOVE ETERNAL, when Sister Fong Fong had a solo performance Sister Bo Chu's fans all got up to go to the bathroom. Sister Bo Chu joked that all the chairs made noise. Although their fans were at each other's throats, their relationship was not harmed. Sister bo Chu pointed out that now she often goes to Fong Fong's home for meals. Because Fong Fong's hearing was poor, she did not like to go out and eat. They would each bring a dish to Fong Fong's home to share and chat. Speaking of her fan support over the years, Sister Bo Chu joked, "Because I am great!" Sister Bo Chu said that she treated her fans like family, and her fans also "loved her family" just the same. When Sister Bo Chu was not in Hong Kong, they would accompany Sister Bo Chu's mother to restaurants and play mahjong with her. * (2012/03/23) LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) two nights ago held its Hong Kong International Film Festival world premiere. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Mini Yang Mi and director Pang Ho Cheung were all present. Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Wong Jing attended in support. After the cast and the director arrived, they spoke to the guests. Ah Lok said that he deliberately did not watch the screening in order to enjoy the film with the audience at the premiere. When Yue Man Lok and the director left together he joked, "The lead actor performed well, who is he? Why would he perform so well?" Pang Ho Cheung also joked, "Earlier he only made LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU), but I think actually the director made him look good." Pang Ho Cheung stayed at the cinema and after the film thanked the audience. Viewers also enthusiastically applauded. However he asked everyone not to give anything away to viewers who have not seen it, and that even the end credits had surprises. Kwok Fu Sing two nights ago watched with a group of friends and supported his buddy Yue Man Lok. "It's very happy, ver real, very life like, the actors performed well, it's funny too. I hope everyone will support this film. Pang Ho Cheung wrote Ji Ming's choice in the end very well. The entire film was very life like. Although it was about two people being together and apart, of course the funniest was the last scene!" * (2012/03/22) Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Ann Hui On Wa and A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) producer Roger Lee Yan Lam two nights ago attended an event. Hui On Wa and Lee Yan Lam were beyond pleased with A SIMPLE LIFE's performance. Ann pointed out that A SIMPLE LIFE was her highest grossing movie in history. "This time I broke my personal record, for which I am already very satisfied." Speaking of the many removed scenes from A SIMPLE LIFE, she said that the extended version was needed for the cinemas but the scenes could be in the DVD depending on the company's decision. "As for the prequel, if someone will write the script then maybe. However I haven't seriously considered it." Lee Yan Kong brought his book with him. He said that he wrote the new book for the story of Sister Peach to be more complete. He hoped that the film will succeed again at the Hong Kong Film Awards next month. Fung Tak Lun next month will produced a Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) starred new film and work with Derek Yee Tung Sing on a racing film. Will he ask old flame Karen Mok Man Wai to star? he said that the director will make the casting decisions. "I won't make actor decisions just because I am the producer. If I direct, I will approach her if the characters are right. Karen and I are still in contact, we just had dinner a few weeks ago. I didn't see her husband though." * (2012/03/22) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Angelababy, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho), Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Karena Lam Ka yun, Josie Ho Chiu Yi and others two nights ago attended the now Popcorn channel hit party and announced now TV's collaboration with Huayi Brothers, Peter Chan Ho Sun's Shine Focus and Edko on an all new film channel. The Chan Ho Sun directed film WU XAI at the Asian Film Award won three awards, so many at the party raised their glasses to Director Chan in a congratulatory toast. The film channel earlier already interviewed Chan Ho Sun, Ng Kwan Yu, Ma Ka Fai and other famous filmmakers and film critics. Sing Sing was selected to be its "May Filmmaker in Focus". He said, "With such a platform for everyone to share good films, I feel very happy. I am very honored to be the May Filmmaker in Focus. I believe in this month everyone will constantly me on television." * (2012/03/22) Shu Qi in the film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) played twins and had passionate scenes Shawn Yue Man Lok as both; Due to the story, Shu Qi had to seduce Lok Jai at least four times. Two of the more passionate scenes were the younger sister's seduction in the back stage dressing room, where Shu Qi had to remove his belt and they made out of the make up table; in the other the older sister snuck around, Shu Qi only wore a men's shirt while Ah Lok was in his underwear. She threw herself into his arms and touched his sensitive areas (ears) and he could not help himself. After the shoot Shu Qi felt it was not passionate enough and asked director Carol Lai Miu Shuet if they needed to remove their clothing too. Director Lai Miu Shuet nervously said that they did not need to, as it was her first time as well that an actor offered to remove her clothing. * (2012/03/22) The 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival opening ceremony took place last night. This year's film festival ambassador Miriam Yeung Chin Wa led her film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) actors Shawn Yue Man Lok, Mini Yang Mi and director Pang Ho Cheung arrived at the red carpet and host the unveiling ceremony with international film star and Paris International Film Festival chair Charlotte Rampling, Peter Chan Ho Sun and others. The very pregnant Chin Wa walked the red carpet with co-star Yue Man Lok, as Lok Jai carefully gave her a hand. Before the event, Chin Wa wore flats. Yet on the carpet she still changed into high heels. Chin Wa later said, "Because flats are very gross with this dress, I have to wear platform shoes no matter what." Did Chin Wa keep the high heels from her husband Real Ting Chi Ko? She joked, "Don't mention it, I sent him away." Lok Jai said that Chin Wa truly was daring because Chin Wa ordered him to give her a hand. "In awhile I would do more than giving you a hand, I can carry you if you want." Chin Wa due to pregnancy left promotion responsibilities to Lok Jai and other actors. Lok Jai said that he did not feel bothered. Earlier Chin Wa did not promote in the Mainland, he, Mini Yang Mi and director Pang Ho Cheung were responsible for the Mainland and Taiwan promotions. Chin Wa said, "I am very sorry that I couldn't go and have to rely on them." Chin Wa will attend the LOVE IN THE BUFF premiere tonight. Will her husband stop her? She said, "No, because it's work. I just have to ask Lok Jai to keep an eye on me and I will be fine." Lok Jai, "That's right, then you cah split some salary with me." Chin Wa said, "What I will give will only be enough for you to pay a down payment." Lok Jai said, "Let's not talk about that, it's very sensitive. As soon as we talk about it I am breaking out in rashes." Kelly Chen Wai Lam yesterday gave birth to her over six pound second son "Little Juicy Bun". Chin Wa said, "That's right, I am very happy. She is amazing, several days ago she still took her son to school." Chin Wa believed that Kelly was resting. She through her company asked Kelly opinions on baby cribs and thanked Kelly for them. She said, "I knew the last few months of the pregnancy was very tough, now she finally gave birth." Lok Jai said that all the female stars went to have babies. Chin Wa made fun of Lok Jai and said, "You'd better hurry up too, claiming to be a Giant Dragon yourself." Lok Jai congratulated Kelly. After two sons he wished for a daughter for her. Kelly said that she will not have another? Lok Jai said that it was in the heat of the moment. LOVE will premiere tonight. Earlier the premiere tickets supposedly rant out. Lok Jai said that he had a hard time getting just two tickets. Chin Wa said, "They said I had 80, actually I gave them all out very quickly. I only had a dozen or so left. My husband will book a show for friends, but one show may not be enough. If we book another show we may charge." Chin Wa said that it was pretty good to have her husband promoting. Who would promote for Lok Jai? Lok Jai joked that he himself was already one. Was he not a Giant Dragon? He said, "I am big in other areas, I am small in seniority. I too have to book shows, friends wanting to see it is better than no one wanting the ticket even if you give it away."Yang Mi said that she will book a show in Beijing for friends. In addition, Chan Ho Sun was selected to be this film festival's Filmmaker in Focus. His wife Sandra Ng Kwan Yu originally was working abroad but rushed back last night to support him. She said that the next day she will leave Hong Kong again to continue her film production and jokingly demanded that Peter buy her dinner. Kwan Yu said that on the 27th the film festival will conduct a exhibit for Peter. She will invite all friends to attend. * (2012/03/22) The film TRIAD (JAT JIK) yesterday held a Hong Kong Film Market press conference. Actors William Chan Wai Ting, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), Irene Wan Bi Han, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and Edward Chui Woei Dong attended. Irene changed from her usual sexy gentle type to play a big sister in the mob. She said that the character required dominance and fierce eyes. Did she practice with her husband? She said mainly the feeling of the look. She will have to use foul language, which she did not mind. Most importantly the story will require it. She also said that she recently saw A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) and was deeply touched. She broke down during the screening and praised Andy Lau Tak Wa's performance as great and no more could be said about Deanie Ip Tak Han's. She felt that this was a very sincere film, hopefully she will have a chance to work with Wa Jai and Ann Hui On Wa. Chan Wai Ting in the film will play a Wise Guy and a couple with Si Nga. Two days ago at the costume fitting a very large tattoo was drawn on half of his body. The tattoo will stay for two weeks. Yet before each shoot, it will require three hours of repair and color addition. He joked that the test of his patience will be the biggest challenge. This tattoo will not fade in the shower. Has his girlfriend Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin seen his tattoo? He said not yet, only people in the film company has seen it. Si Nga also will need a matching tattoo, for now she did not know where it will be. Will she mind it being on her chest? She joked that if the tattoo artist is handsome she will not mind. Online writer Heung Sai Chuen Seung Chun Shu's work DONGGUAN FOREST will be made into a film. The writer wanted Chan Wai Ting for it. He said that he saw a reporter earlier that the film will approach 6 Wing, who asked for an astronomical amount. He had zero knowledge about this story and right now he is not interested in the production yet. Perhaps he will get more of an understanding before deciding. Because the story is about pleasure seeking in the Mainland and has nude scenes, he admitted that he was a little worried about its effect on his image. * (2012/03/22) Patrick Tam Yiu Man yesterday appeared at the Hong Kong Film market for a press conference. Ah Tam said that he has worked with the company on several television series and joked that the lives of his wife and children all depended on them. Ah Tam said that his son is now 5 and daughter is 1. He admitted that he spoils his daughter more. Ah Tam also had a part in the film TRIAD (JAT JIK), which also had a press conference yesterday but he was absent. He explained that he did not return to Hong Kong until yesterday morning so he did not make the event. Later he had to rush back as well. His god mother Deanie Ip Tak Han earlier won another award. Ah Tam said that he already congratulated her when she won the Venice Best Actress, later he called to congratulate her on the film being a box office hit. Will he meet with his god mother for dinner to celebrate? He said, "I will, wait until she will a few more first." He also pointed out that Ip Tak Han was a great instructor and he was very happy for her. He felt that she had a perfect life. He said, "For an elder to win so many awards she is already very happy, I hope to have a chance to have to be like her. To an artist, it is a very perfect harvest." * (2012/03/22) TOGETHER, a new film with many young idols, yesterday began production in a restaurant in Deep Water Bay. Three leads Ko Chen-Tung, Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Angelababy dressed up for the occasion. Ko Chen-Tung praised Baby as the type that he liked and did not mind that she was older than him. Unfortunately Baby said that he was younger than her and she would only treat him like a little brother. Angelababy yesterday wore a coat and said that she did not expect Hong Kong to be so cold in March. Baby said, "I haven't made a movie in Hong Kong for years, the last time was SHORT OF LOVE (NGAI JAI DOR CHING) several years ago. This time we will shoot in Hong Kong for a month!" Speaking of being between Ko Chen-Tung and Wong Chung Chak, Baby said that she will have scenes with both. In the film Ko Chen-Tung is her boyfriend and Bosco her boss. She only knew that she will not have too many intimate scenes. Did she notify her boyfriend? Baby generously said, I constantly work with handsome guys! Almost every movie's co-star is handsome, but Ko Chen-Tung is younger than me. I will only treat him like a little brother!" In addition, Baby was prepared to answer last week's magazine report that she and boyfriend Huang Xiaoming went for a pre wedding check up and insisted that she only went for a flu shot. Xiaoming also had the flu. She said, "I had the flu last year so I went for the shot, Xiaoming happened to be in Hong Kong. We went together because he had the flu too! He just happened to be in Hong Kong and didn't feel well so I took him for a shot. No one should make too much of this, the magazine is exaggerating too much!" As for a wedding date, Baby reiterated that now she is still focused on her work first. Coming to Hong Kong for the first time after rising to fame, Ko Chen-Tung said that he will stay in Hong Kong for ten days for the production. He said, "This is day one at work, then after working in Taiwan I will rush back for the movie!" As for not winning the Asian Film award Best Newcomer, he replied, "I won't be disappointed, I will congratulate the winner Ni Ni. Her performance is great! Every award show's jury is different, the nomination alone is already a recognition!" He and Angelababy will have emotional scenes but no intimate scene in the film, not even kissing or hugging. Their love in the film will be pure. Was he afraid of rumors? He said, "I am not! Why do you always ask this question? (She already has a boyfriend Huang Xiaoming?) I don't know, but I like her this type too." Speaking of Baby being older than him, Ko Chen-Tung said, "I am only a little younger than her, it doesn't matter!" He again stressed that he did not have a girlfriend. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 25 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD PANG HO CHUENG FEEDS MAINLAND BLOOD TO HONG KONG SOUL Hong Kong film is not dead! As Hong Kong people are disappointed in the election, they are disappointed at the same time about co-production film already becoming Chinese language film mainstream. Hong Kong film is the tragic love that can be relived only on video. Ann Hui On Wa's A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) gave us an example, making an authentic Hong Kong style story under the guise of a co-production. Pang Ho Cheung's new film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) used Hong Kong style slang and sense of humor to interpret a story that took place in Beijing to complete the co-production mission. Claiming to have 40% Mainland blood running within him, he hopes that this proves Hong Kong film spirit can be extended infinitely and restores out of chao for co-production films. - HO WING NING RELEASE DATE: March 29 Director Pang Ho Cheung and his wife immigrated to Beijing two years ago. His workshop has already been relocated to the Mainland and only kept an office in Hong Kong. Pang Ho Cheung went from "Boiled Winter Melon" style Putonghua to being able to understand and speak today, claiming that he already ahs 40% Mainland blood running inside him. When he has time in Beijing he would go to Peking Duck in Made In China at the Grand Hyatt Beijing. Even earlier when he was interviewed in Hong Kong, his assistant was an authentic Beijing girl Qianqian who addressed Pang HO Cheung as Lord this and that. It was very hard to imagine how he in his new film LOVE IN THE BUFF still had the ability to inject Hong Kong film elements into a co-production. No Cultural Difference However, Pang Ho Cheung says that his relationship with Hong Kong has never been disconnected. "When I have time I would eat at Lei Garden in Beijing because its Cantonese dishes were so greasy. When I read I go to Page One in Guomao, most importantly in my building in Beijing I can received Hong Kong cable and sports channels. In addition in Beijing I run into more film people than in Hong Kong." His 60% Hong Kong blood is enough for her to complete his new film, a Hong Kong style story that takes place in Beijing. As for the cultural difference, Pang Ho Cheung has an unique view. "Actually a lot are simultaneous, iPhone and IPad are sold almost at the same time. The difference isn't as big as you think, at most 20% different. 80% are the same." Pang Ho Cheung feels that in the past Hong Kong film people's idea of abandoning elements that make Hong Kong film popular in order to accommodate the Mainland market was a mistake. "In the past people who made co-productions would think what would Mainland viewers like, they felt that they didn't understand Hong Kong style humor and made so movies that Mainlanders would accept. In the end they could not please either side. Actually Mainland viewers want to watch Hong Kong style movies the most. Have you seen how popular Hong Kong style coffee shops are in Beijing, why are you making them neither fish nor fowl? Mainland viewers who are in their 30s ask me, why Hong Kong directors don't make movies that they used to make now. They grew up with their movies." Pang Ho Cheung's first co-production is a demonstration of Hong Kong film returning to form, without deliberately bending over to coordinate the Mainland. He says, "Mainland viewers don't have to be educated to watch Hong Kong films, like I said now most grew up on Hong Kong film. When you watch foreign television series FRIEND it has just as many slangs, you still enjoy it just the same and understand it. The 10 to 20% that you don't understand isn't a problem." Pang Ho Cheung's idea is to extend Hong Kong film, not to be limited within Hong Kong. He adds, "I want LOVE to be a demonstration. It sells Hong Kong film spirit. A Hong Kong style story can happen in Beijing. Even if I go to another place in the future I can still make Hong Kong film. People there and in Hong Kong can still relate as the film puts Hong Kong film spirit in action." Looking For Subjects On The Streets In Beijing for two years, Pang Ho Cheung not only produced and made some online movies but also walked the streets of Beijing on his free time to look for information and subjects to put in movies, so the film while full of Hong Kong feel does not lose its authentic fun. He says, "Chi Ming in the film says the Beijing climate is very dry, Yang Mi asks Chi Ming to go to a 'bed bar', they are all actual facts. Beijing really has a bar called bed bar, a foreigner brought me there. Everything in the film has Hong Kong style comedy and performance, but the locals would laugh too when they watch." Actually the film has many dialogues that are conversations between the director and his wife. Pang Ho Cheung says, "Last time when LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) won the Hong Kong Film Award, my wife said that the award should be hers because I moved her life dialogues onto Chun Giu. Chi Ming more or less was my projection, but he was the handsome version. Directors all like to find someone handsome to play themselves. Even Giddens Ko got Ko Chen-Tung to play himself." In the film guest stars Linda Wong Hing Ping, Dior Cheng Yi Kin and their big karaoke hits DON'T ASK WHO I AM and EARTH SHAKING HEAVEN SHOCKING HAVING LOVED are collective memories for many. Completing VULGARIA In 13 Days Only because Hong Kong film did not died would first come A SIMPLE LIFE then LOVE IN THE BUFF. Growing up on Hong Kong film's milk, Pang Ho Cheung although moved to the Mainland and joined the co-production fray, but his love for Hong Kong film has not reduced. Earlier he made an authentic Hong Kong film during his free time in Hong Kong, calling it VULGARIA (DAI JIK HEI KET) in blatantly disregard for the Mainland market. Pang Ho Cheung said, "Earlier an investor wanted to make a movie that could be without the Mainland market. I of course agreed. This movie the fastest in my career and had no script." Repaying Hong Kong Film VULGARIA took only 13 days to complete, its scirpt relied on paper tossing. Writing in the morning and completing the shoot rapidly in the afternoon, the film's abundance of foul language landed its a category III rating. Pang Ho Cheung had a lot of fun making it. He says, "I called in many favors because I know a lot of it obviously won't pass inspection. Since a boss is willing to pay I of course would gladly repay Hong Kong film, so I took a lot less for directing. Being able to have something different on the silver screen is a good thing." Shawn Yue Again Loves Miriam Yeung: Improvisation Battle Shawn Yue Man Lok's acting after LOVE IN A PUFF obviously improved leaps and bounds when he returned to LOVE IN THE BUF. Lok Jai says, "I never had any doubt. I have heard many people say I did well. I think other guest stars' performance can't be overlooked in the success of the movie, every character is surprisingly coordinated. In the film (Miriam) Yeung Chin Wa's buddy (Isabel) Chen Yat Ning had foul language dialogue that viewers enjoy very much. Actually the actress herself doesn't use foul language, but her dialogue with the foul language added took several dozen takes. Everyone contributed a lot of effort." Working with Chin Wa again, Lok Jai feels that the chemistry is even better than last time. "Shooting the first film required a lot of time to warm up, this time everyone knew what LOVE IN THE BUFF is and we were on the same rhythm. So many lines were last minute improvisations." The improvised dialogue sometimes would include foul language, Lok Jai feels that men basically would use a little foul language. He also does not have the burden of protecting his image, so using foul language in rotten gags was not hard for him. One of the lines 'You can't ask for pink nipples' is a rotten gag that he frequently says. The director already wanted to add it into the last film, finally it was saved until the sequel to be used. Although in LOVE Chi Ming and Chun Giu broke up and had a new girlfriend, but around his new interest he often sent text messages to the old flame. In real life Lok Jai also had similar experience. He admitted, "Of course, but it's not like how everyone thinks. Old flames still have feelings, only it is out of sympathy." He admitted that in past romantic experience he had a lot of shortcomings. He said, "Chi Ming in the end was willing to change for Chun Giu. I believe everyone is willing to change for the person they love. I used to like to throw tantrums in front of those closest to me, with Ma and girlfriends. I would hurt them without any reservation. I even feel that girlfriends and Ma should understand me. Ma once was mad at me for half a year, she said my personality was too extreme. Either I was sweet to death or hurt them to death, now I have learned to hold back and compromise." Memorable Imitation of Linda Wong The film adds many comedy elements. Aside from brutally funny dialogues, Lok Jai's cross dressing imitation of Linda Wong Hing Ping in the DON'T ASK WHO I AM music video has the audience absolutely applauding. Lok Jai's favorite is also this scene. "My most serious performance is this scene, with 130 shots. The director at the time told me, I couldn't slip on any shot. I actually needed choreography to practice every movement." Finally even Wong Hing Ping herself thought Lok Jai's impersonation was flawless. - LO PING 2. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 25 2012, FILM WORDS LOVE LIFTING: MEDIOCRE QUALITY The 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival has opened. With over 200 films enthusiastic film viewers are so busy that they have a hard time choosing as usual. I watched the opening film, the Pang Ho Cheung directed LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING). It is a likable Hong Kong Beijing romantic comedy of two cities, the audience reaction is decent. Next week it will be released. As for Hong Kong film, the Herman Yau Lai To directed LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) rarely described a female weightlifter, strangely Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam played the strong woman convincingly. Her hard work is worth complimenting, unfortunately the film itself was only mediocre quality. This weightlifter due to illness retired. After falling in love, getting married and having a child with Chapman To Man Jat, she returned to the Mainland to train again. Suffering a setback due to her husband's accident she was motivated to fight for victory. This story commended real love and inspiration, but the lead actor suddenly became a rich kid and suddenly ran into an accident. The movie truly was "drama for the sake of drama". (Two out of five stars) THE SECOND WOMAN IS EXCESSIVELY CONFUSING The Carol Lai Miu Shuet directed THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) was very intriguing. Shu Qi played twin sisters who looked alike with different personalities. They both fell in love with Shawn Yue Man Lok and became romantic rivals. Seemingly a murder took place and led to a mystery investigation. Particularly wonderful was the play within the movie, an adaptation of the Chinese Opera REJUVENATION OF THE RED PLUM FLOWER into a new style musical. Its practice and performance create a mystery of "resurrection" on and off stage. This is Lai Miu Shuet's whole hearted effort. Shu Qi's performance is great. The problem is it is excessively confusing and too difficult, it cannot achieve delicate and moving charm. The entire film's idea is decent, but its handling is less than proper. (Two out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 3. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 25 2012, HOTSPOT PURSUIT ENTERTAINMENT EXPO DISPLAYS VARIETY This year's Hong Kong Entertainment Expo's heavy prelude including the 6th Asian Film Award, the large scale "Television World" forum, the Asian Digital Music forum, the focus on film financing "Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum" and the Hong Kong Asia Pop Music Fair" has already come to an end. In addition, the Hong Kong Independent Film and Video contest and the Hong Kong International Film Festival will end on March 28 and April 5. The 31st Hong Kong Film award will take place on April 15 as the closing event. This year participants remain numerous, forums about big topics that are worth discussing often have their selling point. Even more direct raves are the the event additions of "ticket stub benefits" and Hong Kong Entertainment Expo online games for prizes. The former is effective before April 15. During this period, any ticket stub from any Hong Kong cinema or the 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival would provide special discounts at specific restaurants or consumer locations; the online game has already ended with prizes like admission to Hong Kong Entertainment Expo award shows, Hong Kong International Film Festival and autographed records, even Hong Kong Entertainment Expo posters and epns. Actually prizes were not many, because these prizes were not for sale they have even more collectible value. I suggest a scale increase next year, ultimately exploring advertisement promotion layers have more benefits than flaws. Hong Kong film, television and music industries are still entertainment leaders. Hong Kong Entertainment Expo has targeted industry insiders and the admission was over HK$2,000, which is not a price that every fans and viewers who love this industry can afford. If more events that the general public can participate in are added, it of course would be a good thing and can even beter use resources. Japan's participating organizations are representatives who caught attention this year. Japan's March 11 disaster and recovery are still topics that get attention. Japan organizations that specialize in promoting the film industry include the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and UNIJAPAN sent members to participate in the Entertainment Expo forums, mainly to promote strongly Japan as a production location and co-production partner and arrange for a series of Japanese film screenings in coordination. At the Television World forum, attendees included many broadcast and media executives. Participating media representatives included China Hunan Broadcasting System, Fortune Star Media Limited, Asia Television, Nippon Television Network Corporation, and Singapore's MediaCorp were at the forums. Each representative mentioned establishing creative fund and interact with the audience to create and selling popular and highly rated program production rights to foreign colleagues. Their discussions were serious and everyone had great ideas. Even though their actual practices will still need to follow regulation and detailed agreements, they are worthy of study. Film and television industries have endless creativity, similar forums are worth encouraging and supporting. - CHOW YI 4. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 25 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH PICKING THE RIGHT TIME AND OPPORTUNITY TO TRY THE MAINLAND Hong Kong film movie cannot be without the Mainland market, which is already industry "common knowledge"; but how to face this fact is the nucleus of the problem. Some filmmakers still believe that their films are high quality, no one goes to them because of other reasons. Some also are brave enough to try and keep trying despite numerous failures. Some are "newborns" who swears to invade the Mainland market wholeheartedly. The writer recently read three directors' interviews, obviously each represent the three aforementioned types of filmmakers. The first director has the following analysis of his work's Mainland release performance. First the director feels that the audience reactions are polarized, one is the film content is full of intelligence and the structure is complicate; another reaction is all Hong Kong films are not worth watching. If this opinion is true, the film should make more than 200 million at least because the most successful Hong Kong films can make 200 to 300 million. After checking this film's box office, it tells another story. Obviously the film's acceptance drastically differs from the director's description. The second is a big director, his small budget films are the most successful. In recent years he made big scale movies to invade the Mainland market. The director feels that now Hong Kong films rely on the Mainland market for 70 to 80% of its return and he has no reason to make Hong Kong market films. Yet his most recent films cost hundreds of millions, unfortunately all suffered losses. The director in the interview states that he has invested real money, losses are like results of gambling. He feels that now he should make some smaller budget films in hopes of being able to obtain balance against losses. Such a honest answer is rare, proving that this director is willing to face reality. In addition he has confidence in his work's quality and has hope for the future. The third director specializes in alternative films. He just finished a co-production with extremely good word of mouth but has not been released yet. Actually this director has already immigrated to Beijing for two years. Although his Putonghua is still not "common" enough, he already has certain knowledge about Mainland comrades' lives. The director has the ambition to enter the Mainland market. He feels that co-productions either "need to acclimate to the climate" or "is neither fish nor fowl". Co-production films have certain demands but do not demand directors to make them abstract or remove humanity. The director in the past two years in order to make a movie that both places would feel it is good, to this end he can overcome any problem. This is what creators should do. Although this director is almost 40, he is "young" among our current filmmakers. Hong Kong film needs more this type of "newborns". As the situation changes, thinking also needs to change. Self adoration has no market. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] TOGETHER Can : Joi Yut Hei d. Not every love story is a fairy tale. After a dramatic wedding feast, unusual love stories unfold towards unexpected endings: a brother and sister in love caught by the mother, a married painter falls for his young life drawing model of same sex, an intimacy between a dance school teacher and his wealthy but senior student, a lesbian couple of which one has role-play paranoid, a dreadful love triangle ending with the girl being beheaded… "Love Actually…Sucks!" celebrates love that no one care but real, for life is love, love as it is. [ PHILADELPHIA QFEST ] Taking inspiration from six different court cases involving crimes of the heart, Scud examines the intense, often self-destructive sexual longings among several well-to-do young Hong Kong residents – gay, lesbian and straight. The film opens with the most scandalous wedding reception ever put on film: a young couple’s marriage ends (in the most dramatic fashion) before it begins. There is the 30-ish married gym instructor who trolls the active bathroom scene for young flesh; a lesbian couple with roleplay issues; a dance instructor who becomes the object of attraction to his much older student; a married painter who falls for his male model; a brother and sister who take family togetherness a bit too literally; and a young man who becomes increasingly deranged until he takes his love interest problems into his own hands. In Scud’s world, every love story is a fairy tale – but here the stories are sexual and troubling. Overall, a complex, sensual and compelling film. Ever since Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sang “It’s a Fine Romance” in 1936’s Swing Time, movies have been bowing down to the power of love. Unfortunately, Hollywood just doesn’t make romantic comedies the way they used to and these days if you’re looking for love in an American movie, you’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Thank Aphrodite for Korea. Ever since My Sassy Girl broke box office records in 2001, the Korean film industry has been making some of the funniest, most outrageously swoony movie romances, and for this series we’ve picked three of the best. Tuesday, APRIL 10, 2012 @ 7pm PETTY ROMANCE (2010, 118 minutes) A word-of-mouth hit in 2010, this romance is set in the world of manhwa (Korean comic books), and the couple at the center of the story have chemistry to burn. TV star Lee Seon-Gyun is a struggling manhwa artist who enters a competition with a massive cash prize. To raise his chances of winning, he hires a sex advice columnist, Choi Gang-Heui (star of the breakout hit, My Scary Girl), to write his erotic comic. Little does he know that she plagiarized her column from the Kama Sutra and the Kinsey Report because her ideas about sex are a bit…vague, to put it kindly. PETTY ROMANCE been winning hearts and minds on the film festival circuit for a year and it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
