In the film Bui On Kei played an action actress. She said, "Big Brother Hung Kam Bo is very amazing. As soon as he takes one look at the action director's action he immediately is able to do it. We have to take a long time, until we are all bruised. I want to be an action actress and develop in multiple areas. I would like to work with (Donnie) Yen Chi Tan, (Jet Li) Lee Nin Kit and Jackie Chan the most. However I also want to work with Hung Kam Bo again." Earlier she practiced tae kwon do and Chinese sword. "In the film I had scenes with Big Brother Hung Kam Bo. He taught me some stuff, and he was very funny and very talented!" Was she injured during the shoot? "Injury is certain, but I was just bruised." Bui On Kei who has never fought her boyfriend once tried Brazilian Jujitsu with Rosemary. "Learning kung fu for self defense is good no matter what." * (2012/03/21) Two nights ago the Asian Film Award invited famous international fashion designer Vivienne Tam and Shawn Yue Man Lok to present the Best Costume Designer award. She praised the FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP)'s costume designers Yee Chung-Man and Lai Hsuan-wu's costume designs as very right for the film style. "They truly deserve the award." * (2012/03/21) Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung yesterday attended their new film THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH)'s press conference. The film will be released in August. Although leads Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun were both absent, they have already made time to promote. The directors admitted that Wai Jai was indeed somewhat hard to schedule, luckily they were buddies and often gave him scripts in private. Wai Jai also liked movies that were both intense yet relaxed and the characters human. So over 10 years they have worked together on 4 films already. The directors planned to start work on OVERHEARD 3 (SIT TING FUNG WON 3) and hopefully with the original team. As for adding Wai Jai, they said, "No, but we have discussed other projects with Wai Jai. He even urged us to hurry up." * (2012/03/21) Jaycee Chan (Fong Cho Ming), Xia Yu, Jessica C. and Deng Jiajia attended their film DOUBLE TROUBLE (BO DOH SEUNG HUNG) Hong Kong Film Market press conference. This film was shot in Taiwan and the actors yesterday talked about their experience. Everyone thanked Cho Ming for taking them around to taste the local food. However, actually Cho Ming suffered a lot in the film, "Little Cho Ming" in particular. Cho Ming by the end of the film even shot a video to apologize to his parents because earlier he did not tell his parents that he would make these scenes. At the event Cho Ming reenacted how he was kicked, as all the actors pretended to kick him. Later Cho Ming pointed out that for this film he was almost kicked 100 times. Of course during the shoot he wore protection. Yet sometimes he still would be nailed. He usually would not speak up, stood aside and jumped around to pretend to adjust his protection. He did not want to tell anyone out of fear that they would hold back and made the shoot even more difficult. Cho Ming also joked that Jessica C. was the most vicious. He also said that originally in the script Xia Yu was the one who was kicked, but somewhat it became him. He did not mind though and thought this time was a very rare experience. * (2012/03/21) The fresh out of the oven "Asian Best Actress" Deanie Ip Tak Han yesterday along with Asian Film Award Lifetime Achievement winning director Ann Hui On Wa met the press. Sister Deanie two nights ago won Best Actress again with the film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). If next month she will win the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress, she will complete her harvest. She was very grateful for the award and would always remain at peace. As for all the awards that the film has won, she will display them at investor and lead actor Andy Lau Tak Wa's place. Sister Deanie in SIMPLE played an old character, but veteran actors in general had less chance to perform. However everything has exceptions. Sister Deanie felt that in Hong Kong she has been the luckiest. Did she do any research before the shoot? She said, "I am already an old person myself, I didn't need to do research before hand. (Are you afraid of getting old?) I am not afraid of getting old, only getting sick. I am afraid that I would be unable to take care of myself. If I wouldn't then I would ask for euthanasia." Speaking of Wa Jai becoming a big support player to support her character, Sister Deanie insistently denied it. "Wa Jai absolutely isn't a big support player, he is the lead. Everyone's value is different, Roger (Wa Jai's character) should treat Sister Peach better, especially since they have been together for several decades." Sister Deanie was asked about work before and after SIMPLE's production. She joked that before and after she did not have any movie to make. Ann immediately revealed now many people want to work with Ip Tak Han and are waiting for her to decide! Speaking of the numerous detailed situations that were unique to Hong Kong in the film but the film was still relatable in Europe, Taiwan and other areas, Ann felt that the film was about relationships with elders, masters and servants and family. The entire would would be able to relate. Ann also became the first woman to win the Asian Film Award's Lifetime Achievement Award. She did not feel special and believed that in the future will mention it. She admitted that Hong Kong film is still male driven. Sister Deanie added that so is Hollywood. As for future film projects, Ann revealed that she already has two creations, stories with Hong Kong background and history. Yet she will have to decide which one will have investors. She will not restrict her production subject due to previous success. As for actors who she would like to work with the most, Ann said that she has many like Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Tony Leung Ka Fai. In the past they often due to scheduling were unable to work together. In addition, Indonesian actor Donny Damara with LOVELY MAN won Asian Best Actor. In the film he played a father who in order to support his daughter's education went to the city and cross dressed as a prostitute. Actually he in order to play the character well truly observed the lives of prostitutes in their environment. Because Indonesian film only maintained a rate of 25 or so films annually, Donny would like to work with even more actors of different nations and places. As for Chinese actors, Lau Tak Wa, Zhang Ziyi and Joan Chen are all actors who he would like to work with. * (2012/03/21) Andy Lau Tak Wa two nights ago doubled the pleasure. At the 6th Asian Film Award he won the online My Favorite Actor award but also won a 2011 Leaders of the Year award on the same night for his extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions in show business in the past year. Other show business winners included director Ann Hui On Wa and TVB executive chair Leung Nai Peng. Wa Jai lamented on the stage that this award was an encouragement. Because 20 years ago his film company was sued for 200 million, it once had a lot of difficulties. He also joked that he often miscalculated. A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s good performance was unexpected. Dressed up for the 2011 Leaders of the Year award, Wa Jai said that he was the happiest about being able to win with Ann. "Everyone is worried about Hong Kong film's development. Different directors are toiling around in different locations. Ann however stays in Hong Kong. With her in command I am very at ease." What area did Wa Jai feel he had leadership abilities in? He honestly said in film and said that if anyone who had any need or wanted his assistance could approach him. Wa Jai also revealed that he has always told people to knock on his company's door with scripts, but he would turn some away depending on the production. The company every year will plan to invest 20 to 25 million on film productions. The company will be able to make only one or two movies that cost between 8 to 10 million, if the production cost will not be too high then it will be able to make 6 movies. * (2012/03/21) The film PAINTED SKIN: RESURRECTION (WAT PEI II) yesterday held a Hong Kong Film Market press conference. Actors Mini Yang Mi, Feng Shaofeng, director Wuershan were in attendance. At the event Yang Mi and Feng Shaofeng shared their production experience. Feng Shaofeng in the film played a demon hunter while Yang Mi played a little bird demon. Feng Shaofeng said that the director asked him to lose weight so he would have a gliding in the wind feeling, thus he was constantly hungry. He honestly said that everyday he had a hard time watching Yang Mi eat everyday. Yang Mi's bird demon costume had a pair of big wings, which were added on with post production special effects. Before the shoot the director gave her a bird for her to study the bird's movement. During the shoot, Vicki Zhao Wei and Zhou Xun were rumored to be at odds. Did they notice? The director pointed out that everything were just rumors. Feng Shaofeng said that he witnessed them being very close. Yang Mi said that she was very happy about having the chance to work with Zhou Xun and took the chance to learn from her. Did Yang Mi see her boyfriend Harwick Lau Hoi Wai this time in Hong Kong? She said that he was at work in the Mainland. Did she meet her future father in law Lau Tan for dinner? She said that she did. In addition, Yang Mi's other film THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) held a Hong Kong Film Market press conference yesterday as well. Yang Mi however chose to attend PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION's press conference and explained that was because she received this invitation earlier. Later she will promote BULLET in Beijing. * (2012/03/21) The Law Chi Leung directed, Derek Yee Tung Sing produced, Lau Ching wan, Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, and Liu Kai Chi starred film THE BULLET VANISHES (SIU SUT DIK JI DAN) yesterday held a "global preview premiere press conference" and displayed the trailer. Yee Tung Sing said that this film's other selling point was a bed scene that was originally in the film. Ting Fung said immediately, "Originally? Then I did it for nothing?" Yee Tung Sing said that due to standard issues, the bed scene had to be edited for approval. Ting Fung later was asked whether the bed scene with Yang Mi was very passionate? Ting Fung said that actually they only had a few kisses and did not have any exciting bed scenes. He admitted that in the past he has never worked on any bed scene, which he denied was due to image protection. Only few directors asked him. Would he accept very passionate bed scenes? Ting Fung joked, "Bed scenes require a lot of training. (What training?) Weight loss! I can't eat during that." Rumors of kidnappers recently surfaced in Hong Kong. Was Ting Fung worried about his children's safety? He pointed out that kidnappers have always been around, parents should be more careful. Would he give his maids special reminders to be careful when picking up the children after school? He joked, "My sons have everyone in the media's protection when they go to school. I won't blame the photography reporters. Now I have 6 million more to help with keeping an eye on my sons, why would I yell at reporters. You can't say you don't recognize my sons?" Ting Fung also pointed out that if someone dared to kidnap his sons he would immediately have over 2 million photos spreading online. He said, "Don't touch my sons! If anything happens I would chase you down nine blocks, I would dig up 18 generation of his ancestors and bite him for ten lifetimes, why bother?" He even jokingly asked the media, "Everyone please don't let my sons go, get as close as you can." Ting Fung pointed out that he was working himself to death just for two little ones. The reporters loved them anyway so he was not worried about his sons' safety. Lau Ching Wan in the film had many action scenes. He pointed out that the final explosion scene was like setting off the Victoria Harbor firework show indoors. At the time he was truly very scared, luckily he was not hurt. This was his first collaboration with Ting Fung, who he praised as a good actor and did many of his own stunts. He even revealed that Ting Fung loved action scenes. At most times he wanted to perform them personally and appeared to be very happy and excited. Did he take less risks in comparison? Ching Wan pointed out that he was stable. * (2012/03/21) Adam Cheng Siu Chau, Dior Cheng Yi Kin, Raymond Lam Fung, Yu Bo and director Ronny Yu Yun Tai yesterday appeared at the Hong Kong International Film Market for their new film SAVING GENERAL YANG (JUNG LIT YEUNG GA JEUNG) press conference and shared their production memories. The director praised that he never imagined Lam Fung to be so capable at fighting and that thanked the seven hunks for completing a very cool film for him. He remembered when he first met each young person he was worried that they would not be able to communicate. Luckily he had a "hunk old cake" and had no problem, then he patted Chau Guoon next to him and cracked everyone up. Chau Guoon also revealed that originally he turned down the film, later the director's sincerity moved him. After reading the script his wife took the role for him. He felt lucky that he did not miss the chance. Chau Guoon revealed that he has not made a film in the past ten years because he has always been busy with television series. The toughest part of the entire film was riding horses and fighting with the Guan blade. Luckily he never fell off the horse. The director made fun of him as a hunk old cake, Chau Guoon pretended to be mad and joked that if he knew earlier he would not have made the film. Actually his director was close to him in age, old age has old charm. Aside from sincerity was a high offer made? Chau Guoon said that he was not sure, maybe he would not be paid because being able to work with a famous director was already very decent. Ekin went from not knowing how to ride a horse to now being able to get on a horse after a two week rapid training class. He revealed that the horse knocked him off once, he only realized that his hip might be slightly misaligned after the shoot. He has not been scared off though, instead he felt that in the future he will be able to keep working. Ekin joked, "The most amazing part was the director wanted us to be on real horses even during dramatic scenes, unlike fake horses on television series. This really was the hardest, it was really like a foreign film. Someone who was used to making foreign films indeed was different." In addition, speaking of Gigi Leung Wing Kei's rumored pregnancy, Ekin immediately congratulated her and said that they were rarely in contact so he was not sure. When she got married did he receive any cake? Ekin said, "We were that familiar! (When would be your turn?) Okay bye bye!" * (2012/03/21) The film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG) yesterday held a press conference. Actors Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) and director Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) attended. The event was arranged for Cheung Chi Lam who played a baker to decorate a cake. Chilam revealed that Sum Yau actually had a fear of anything white and felt nauseous when she saw cake with white icing. Yet during the shoot she still looked like she enjoyed it. Chilam also revealed that yesterday at the event he and Sum Yau went to the 4D cinema to watch 4D SEX AND ZEN (4D YUK PO TUEN). He joked that they were the only ones in the room but the chairs kept on rocking. It was very embarrassing. Sum Yau later even awkwardly removed his glasses but he thought it was rather surprising and interesting. As for Sum Yau and Kevin Cheng Ka Wing's rumor, he joked that during the shoot he was interested in introducing someone to her but she turned him down. Actually she already had someone in mind. He said that was good, as she would not have to be so dry anymore. Lau Sum Yau pointed out that the shoot was very comfortable, like a big dinner party everyday. Recently Cheng Ka Wing was rumored to have started courting her while they were working on a Mainland television series. Sum Yau asked reporters back, "Really?" but did not directly reply. She only complimented him as a good actor. She said, "I believe privately he wouldn't like me. (Any chance for development?) My knowledge of him is limited, it would depend on whether I have a chance to get to know him more. It also depends on luck." Sum Yau admitted that they exchanged numbers. She is looking for someone with filial piety. She also pointed out that she was very shy in love and hoped to be more open. * (2012/03/21) Shaw Movie City and TVB's film production company yesterday introduced its plans for the upcoming year at the Hong Kong International Film Market. Originally Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Bosco Wong Chak Chung planned to show their support but fell through in the last minute. Finally only Michael Tse Tin Wa and King Kong held down the fort. Also on hand were Elaine Lok Yi Ling, Leung Ka Shun, Wong Ka Hei, Chik Ka Kei and others. Tin Wa and King Kong will work together on the new film SUN SAU YING GAING (HOLY BEAST COP). At first Tin Wa declined to reveal who else was in the cast and only said that in early April he will make a movie that resembled CURRY AND PEPPER (GA LEI LAT JIU) in subject. Will he work with Bosco? Tin Wa hinted and said that why was this name mentioned, not expecting later King Kong would make the revelation that their co-star would be Bosco. Speaking of the numerous appearances of "wolves" in Hengdian, Tin Wa said that curiously he has not run into one. He knew that many Hong Kong artists were working there but he has not seen one yet. Originally he was to meet Charmaine Sheh Si Man for dinner, but because she had to work she cancelled. Did he have late night snacks with other actors? Tin Wa said, "Everyone after work went to bed. (Did your wife ask you to be more careful?) I only went to the karaoke box with Cheng Ka Wing, then everyone caught him and Wing Yi!" Tin Wa also joked that in the film they exchanged looks but whether they had something real between them Ka Wing had to be asked. He would always get the feeling wrong. Did the Mainland have a lot of temptations? Tin Wa changed the subject and said, "When stuff is cheap of course it's like this, even the cup of noodle is so cheap. (Did anyone knock on your door?) I locked the door and even put on the security chain, I was definitely safe!" As for King Kong he will play a nice kid but he did not know whether he will have any romance. Would working with rumored girlfriend Gemma Choi Wai Yan be the best? King Kong took a detour and said, "No, maybe (Chrissie) Chau Sau Na would be good too. We are very familiar. With good looking guys like me, both beauty and the beast are right!" * (2012/03/20) Lau Ching Wan and Crystal Liu Yifei two nights ago attended the Hong Kong Society of Cinematographers annual banquet and received the 2011 Most Charming Actor and Actress awards. The Most Outstanding Cinematography Award went to OVERHEARD 2 (SIT TING FUNG WON 2)'s Poon Yiu Ming. Lau Ching Wan kept saying his victory was incredible and joked that he did not feel how he was charming, the eyes of cinematographers were indeed extraordinary! He admitted that he has never been called charming, even his wife has never told so. How did he attract his wife? Lau Ching Wan said, "I don't know, maybe it was honesty!" He said in his eyes the most charming actor has to be Chow Yun Fat. He even joked, "Actually many people are charming, only I am not!" Liu Yifei felt that her charm came from self confidence, her aura also came from within and had nothing to do with looks. Thus she felt everyone was charming. In her eyes the most charming artist was also Chow Yun Fat as he radiated a mature charm. * (2012/03/20) Joey Yung Cho Yi, Carlos Chan Ka Lok and producer Chapman To Man Jat yesterday attended the Hong Kong Film Market promotion of DIVA. Joey said that her assistant earlier watched the footage during her voice work. On the streets her assistant saw a new necklace and told her to buy it for the red carpet later. Joey said, "I too feel I have improved, but I don't feel that it was great enough for a nomination. I told my assistant to wake up! (Why do you lack confidence?) Maybe I am very demanding of myself. I already feel very happy about any improvement." Joey revealed that she already bought that necklace for five figures, of course she would have the chance she would really like to win an award. Joey felt that if an actress has a script that is scripted for her, she has to believe that was what she wants. In the story she did not need to explore much. Anything that seemed to have happened to her she only had to put it out of the drawer. The performance was very comfortable. Joey also said that she is fielding other scripts. Earlier she ran into James Yuen Sai Sun, who was interested in a sequel for CRAZY N THE CITY (SUN GAING HUP NUI). She too would like to work with the original team. Ah Jat hoped that the film would be released in the summer. Speaking of Joey's necklace purchase for film festivals, would Ah Jat give her a hand or help himself first? Ah Jat admitted that he did not have such a mentality and felt that film was passive. However he had confidence in Joey because the film wanted to unveil the dark side of stardom. Ah Jat said, "I am not saying that Joey has one, but she grew up amid jeers. If she had a smooth sailing no one would want to watch it. I have talked with her about that earlier, speaking of the hardship she too got teary eyed." Ah Jat said that everyone had love and career while growing up, but he talked about them he would become a producer without ethics. Ultimately Joey in the film performed some of her own experience. * (2012/03/20) Popular Mainland star Mini Yang Mi along with director Corey Yuen Kwai and Louis Fan Siu Wong appeared at the Hong Kong International Film Market and attended the WU DANG press conference. The event even premiere the film production special and promotional film. Yuen Kwai had nothing but praise for "new kung fu star" Yang Mi, complimenting her on her physical adjustments and good action genes. Fan Siu Wong demonstrated kung fu on the spot. Fan Siu Wong even revealed that when he shot the three turns in mid air, all the force gathered on his toes when he landed and they broke. He needed six strong men to carry him off the hill. After treatment the next day he was able to continue to work. He thought the injury was not the toughest part, which was carrying Sister Bau (Paw Hee Ching) up and down stairs several dozen times in 3,000 feet above sea level. Luckily he did not have any high altitude reaction. As for Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Vincent Zhao Wenzhou's recent dispute news, he dodged the question and said, "I don't know." For her first kung fu film, Yang Mi inevitably got hurt. Due to wire work she was bruised all over. Was she scared off? She said, "It's OK, but it's pretty scary. Some of the stunts were highly difficult, in one scene I had to be upside down." Did she fall in love with action? She said that she did not know how the film would turn out. If viewers would accept it she would like to try again, because after finishing the action film her health improved. * (2012/03/20) Chrissie Chau Sau Na and Ava Yu yesterday appeared at the Hong Kong Film Market to promote THE BAUHINIA HEROINE 3D (JI GAING HUP 3D). Chau Sau Na broke boards with kicks and performed cartwheels. Later Chau Sau Na explained that because she had to kick she was dressed more conservatively. For this film she trained for a month. Everyday she stretched. She said that her nose and her knees now have become closer and closer friends. Later they might even live together. Has she tried her hands on her boyfriend? She said that she did not dare to because her boyfriend had a pair of scissors in his hands. Has she learned to defend herself now? Chau Sau Na said not yet because she still was not great at it yet. Will she switch to the action genre later and stop being sexy? She said, "No, right now I am learning the basics. I am very glad that this film had time for me to train." * (2012/03/20) The 7th Osaka Asian Film Festival closed yesterday. The Wei Te-Sheng directed Taiwan film won the audience award. WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE premiered in Japan, attracted many Japanese viewers and sold out every show. Two big Chinese films WU XIA and FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE won three and two technical awards respectively. Winning Best Actress again, Sister Deanie first gave a speech in English. She happily said that she was very grateful and very honored. She thanked the event, Ann Hui On Wa and Andy Lau Tak Wa for giving her the chance to perform. She also praised that Wa Jai not only looked good but was also a good actor, a genius actor. She even said to Wa Jai, "Thank you, Darling!" Wa Jai immediately blew her a kiss, then she in Cantonese said that for an actor to perform well, a good script was very important. Thus she thanked the producer for providing a good story. She also said that playing Sister Peach was not hard because she was a senior; but yesterday some people wanted a difficult challenge of making her pretty. She then thanked a group of people who made her pretty. Speaking of Wa Jai's Best Actor defeat, she admitted that she was somewhat disappointed but this was the jury's selection. As for future work, she said that she would first go to Australia to watch the lunar eclipse. Indonesian actor Donny Damara with LOVELY MAN won Best Actor, which he said was incredible but he was very excited. He also said that this trip has left him a beautiful memorable. In the film he played a cross dressing prostitute, he said that his family and friends were very supportive. To get into character, he would pay attention to how real prostitutes moved and even how they kissed. As for Wa Jai and he and THE WOMAN IN THE SEPTIC TANK's Filipino actress Eugene Domingo won the online My Favorite Actor and Actress award. Wa Jai happily said, "I never thought that I would win this award, thank you everyone for your support. I appreciate it very much now because I just won an award at another award show. I never thought that I would win this award after sitting for just awhile. I truly am very happy." Eugene Domingo not only had a very natural high but also became a Wa Jai fan as she took out her mobile phone to take photos with Wa Jai. She also leaned on Wa Jai and suggested to work with Wa Jai in a movie. Wa Jai smiled very happily and even kissed her cheek. Wa Jai later presented Best newcomer with Korean star Yoon Eun-Hye. Wa Jai thanked Ann Hui On Wa for approaching him with a movie 30 years ago, which gave him the chance to thank her on stage. Yoon Eun-Hye said that she did not understand what Wa Jai said. Wa Jai humorously joked that he thanked his wife, which made Hui On Wa cracked up in the audience. Hui On Wa received the event's Asian Film Lifetime Achievement Award and a standing ovation. She first thanked the event, her mother and the award presenters Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga) and Ip Tak Han. She also had to thank someone, the ORDINARY HEROES (CHIN YIN MAN YU) investor, because this film made him lose a lot of money. Ni Ni won Best Newcomer with THE FLOWERS OF WAR. She said that the award was quite a surprise. She was very emotional on stage mainly because she did not think that she would win, in addition because Wa Jai presented the award to her. Speaking of her co-star Christian Bale, she praised him as a very nice person who taught her a lot about acting. He not only was a good actor but also was very friendly and low key. Their collaboration was very pleasant. Lawrence Ko Yu Lun with JUMP! ASHIN won the Best Supporting Actor. He thanked Eddie Peng Yu-yen and said that he and this life and death good brother gave the director quite a headache. Through this chance he also thanked director Edward Yang who gave him his start in the business and taught him what professionalism and passion were. The event around 5:30PM began the 3 hour long red carpet ceremony. Unfortunately the more familiar stars did not appear until the end and made everyone feel the ceremony was too long. On the red carpet, more eye catching was Yumiko Cheng Hei Yi. She admitted that she was not afraid of wardrobe malfunction, "The company loaned the dress to me, I also feel I have courage." Steven Cheung Chi Hung who accompanied her said that he would protect her the entire way and carried a knife, but he did not dare to look around either. He only dared to look straight ahead. Deanie Ip Tak Han and director Ann Hui On Wa arrived together. When asked about her confidence to win, she admitted that she was confident and also said that every competitor had an equal change. If he won what would she like Wa Jai to give her? She said that she should not be so greedy. As for celebrating, she said that she would wait until she successfully lost weight before celebrating. A strong rival for Ip Tak Han, A SEPARATION's lead actress Leila Hatami last night brought her husband and children. Coming to Hong Kong for the first time, she said Hong Kong was very beautiful. Because she liked to travel, this time she brought her family. Last year with this film she has been to many different film festivals, she said that each nomination felt unreal and exciting. The Taiwan film that broke Hong Kong box office record, YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's leads Ko Chen-Tung, Michelle Chen, director Giddens Ko and producer Angie Chai appeared together. Michelle Chen even appeared in white, which she explained that because in the film she always wore white. As for competing with Best Actress Ip Tak Han, she was very happy and has seen A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) already. She thought it was great. She also said that she would not increase her salary because of the nomination. Ko Chen-Tung was not nominated for Best Actor, only Best Newcomer. He said that he was not upset and would not think too much. Instead he liked Hong Kong more and more. As for his raise he said that he was not the one who would decide that. Kwai Lun-Mei was nominated for Best Supporting Actress with FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE (LUNG MOON FEI GAP). She was very excited about her first nomination. Although her first fight scene was very tough, she thanked director Tsui Hark for showing the audience a different her. Best Actor presenter Karen Mok Man Wai was very excited and admitted that she picked Wa Jai. If he truly won she definitely would kiss him. As for her good sister Gigi Leung Wing Kei's pregnancy rumor, she said that she would wait until Gigi responds herself. Best Costume Designer presenter Shawn Yue Man Lok appeared in a dress. He said that because in earlier award shows he has already worn a suit many times, this time he wanted to try something new. Ni Ni who came in Hong Kong for the first time revealed that she was very happy to have a chance to visit Causeway Bay yesterday. * (2012/03/20) Media Asia yesterday at the Hong Kong Film Market held a new film revue as stars spilled over to promote. They each appeared on the stage to introduce their new films. In the coming year Media Asia will release five big productions, three of which will star Ah Lok. First to be introduced was the release next Thursday, LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING). Although lead actress Miriam Yeung Chin Wa was unable to appear, Pang Ho Cheung revealed on her behalf that she has always been helping with the online promotion and joked that he has already decided to wait for the box office to pass 100 million peacefully. Lam Kin Ngok was all grins. Ah Lok then continued to introduce two other films MOTORWAY (CHEH SAU) and THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI). He recalled that his first scene for MOTORWAY was totalling the car, which left him somewhat shaken. Wa Jai in his new film DWELLING IN THE FUCHUN MOUNTAIN was between two beauties Zhang Jingchu and Lin Chiling. Thus He joked that every time at work was both happy and dangerous. Director Sun Jianjun also took the chance to present a DWELLING IN THE FUCHUN MOUNTAIN replica to Lam Kin Ngok as a present; in addition, Wa Jai and Sammi also introduced their new film MAN TAM (BLIND DETECTIVE). The buddies immediately trades pleasantries. Wa Jai joked that when he worked with Sammi before usually he fought more than he acted. Now he has improved to act more than fight. Because the director wanted him to play a blind person who would not wear glasses, just how to play blind was hard enough; Later Sammi said that the film will start production in May or June. This time she seemed to be Wa Jai's understudy, indeed she will have more fight scenes than him. Sammi joked, "I truly would rather fight, I am not confident enough to play blind. Luckily this character didn't fall onto me. However Wa Jai personally performed stunts for me, like in some dirty places that I didn't want to lie down in he did without even hesitation. He is almost my private action director." Speaking of Wa Jai's wife who was close to giving birth, would such a late production be affected? Wa Jai said that he was fine. Sammi immediately defended him and told the media not to ask when she was expecting. Then she realized that she was in over her head and immediately said to ask Wa Jai. Speaking of reports that Wa Jai brought a property for his wife and daughter and decided to name her Lau Wan Sin, Wa Ja said, "I didn't read it, I don't want to mention my family over such reports. Leave it for people who want to read it." Did he feel A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s rave review were due to luck from his daughter? Wa Jai smiled and said okay and thank you. * (2012/03/19) Emperor Motion Pictures yesterday announced its 2012 film projects and will invest almost 100 million on the firefighter film SUT JUNG GAU WOON YING HUNG (SPECIAL RESCUE SQUAD HERO, tentatively title). Best Actor Nicholas Tse Ting Fung will star and personally challenge dangerous scenes in the fire and explosions. The Ting Fung and Lau Ching Wan starred SIU SUT DIK JI DAN (VANISHING BULLET) will also be released this year. Since LIFELINE (SUP MAN FOR GUP) over 10 years ago, Hong Kong rarely made big film productions about firefighters. Emperor Motion pictures and GALLANTS' Hong Kong Film Award winning Best Director Derek Kwok Chi Kin will work together on DUT JUNG GAU WOON YING HUNG. Currently confirmed is Nicholas Tse Ting Fung and it will be his first firefighter film. The film will have many fire and explosive scenes, Ting Fung who has always been braver than anyone will personally perform the stunts. Kwok Chi Kin earlier spent more than half a year on research in hopes of breaking out similar stories' framework and show the most realistic side of firefighters. THE FOUNDING OF A REPUBLIC and BEGINNING OF THE GREAT REVIVAL Mainland director Huang Jianxin's son Huang Lei will direct his first film ANGRY KID, his father will produce. Emperor Motion Pictures will also have many releases tihs year, including Lu Chuan's THE LAST SUPPER (WONG DIK SING YIN) with Liu Ye, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and Chang Chen; the Heiward Mak Hei Yan directed, Chapman To Man Jat produced, Joey Yung Cho Yi and Mag Lam Yun Tung starred DIVA has been tentatively scheduled for a summer release; the William Chan Wai Ting, Michelle Wai (Si Nga) and Irene Wan Bik Ha starred mob film TRIAD (JAT JIK) is still in production. At the same time, Emperor at the Filmart used a green design and made from recycled material, environmentally friendly with unique style. * (2012/03/19) Hong Kong 3D film fever will soon "ignite"! Yesterday Lau Ching Wan and Louis Koo Tin Lok were rumored to be working on the first 3D Hong Kong film about fire, INFERNO (TOH CHOOK SUN TIN, tentative title). They will play firefighters in the film and will have many fire rescue scenes. Reportedly, the film will cost HK$140 million and construct sets in the Mainland for the great fire and building collapse scenes. The film company arranged for Ching Wan and Goo Jai to study firefighting knowledge and tool use with the Fire Department, and has already contacted Hong Kong and Mainland fire departments to assist with the production. Universe executive Daneil Lam Siu Keung said, "The cast is set but can't be announced yet. This time we invest in a 3D fire film completely because the subject is fresh. The film will start production in July or August, the directors will be the Pang Brothers." Because a movie about firefight has certain risks, the film company will insure the actors heavily. * (2012/03/19) The Wong Jing directed MARRYING MR. PERFECT (GA GOR 100 FUN NAM YUN) had Mainland actor Wen Chao who resembled Stephen Chow Sing Chi as Chow Sing Sing and even used Sing Yeh's official voice actor "Shek Ban Yu". The story also resembled their previous films and seemed to be a reflection of Sing Yeh. Wong Jing denied and said, "I feel that someone and something has to be funny to be my subject. Chow Sing Sing is a mix of many people, not anyone's reflection." * (2012/03/19) Veteran artist Rebecca Pan (Poon Dik Wa) earlier attended the film DAYS OF BEING WILD (AH FEI JING JUEN) screening and talked about her experience with Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing. She said, "Gor Gor is a very nice person who respects elders very much, but he was born with a very blue feeling. He always hides his feelings and wouldn't complain no matter how tough it was. Maybe because of this type of introverted personality he was led to do something silly later." * (2012/03/19) Power of Film Gala charity event took place last night. Attending guests included Keanu Reeves, Donnie Yen Chin Tan and Cissy Wang, Karen Mok Man Wai, Josie Ho Chiu Yi, Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) and his wife and Japanese singer Gackt. The always friendly Keanu stopped as soon as he arrived for everyone to take pictures. As he was able to leave, reporters asked him again for a few more and he complied. He even stopped to speak briefly with reporters. Speaking of his new film MAN OF TAI CHI, although it was shooting in Beijing but the snow has not hindered the production; as for whether it will shoot in Hong Kong, he still did not know yet. He met Yen Chi Tan for the first time and they chatted. He also praised Mok Man Wai as a good actress. Will he make a movie that will shoot in Hong Kong? He would like to, then the event dragged him away. Later reporters asked him to pose with Chi Tan, and they complied. Later Chi Tan even introduced his family to Keanu. Recently Chi Tan and Vincent Zhao Wenzhou have diverged over their new film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) and began a war of words online. Yesterday Chi Tan through his assistant issued a solemn statement that clarified that he was not pulling the strings behind the scenes to force Zhao Wenzhou's resignation and reserved all rights to take legal action again various comments that Zhao Wenzhou has made. The statement pointed out that the DUT production on February 29 announced the termination of collaboration with Zhao Wenzhou, which was a decision that the investors made. Chi Tan did not force Zhao Wenzhou to leave. The statement also accused Zhao Wenzhou of twisting the reasons behind his resignation during interviews and pointed the arrows at him, promoting himself through slander against him. After the reports were published, his microblog was slammed with messages, the space that he, his family and fans shared was polluted and the account has already been frozen. The statement also pointed out five untrue comments that Zhao Wenzhou made during the interview, including "the dark hand behind the resignation, changing scripts without authorization, causing a production halt that cost over 10 million, revelations to the media". Because those accusations have already become defamation that damaged his 30 years of reputation and image in show business, he has decided to take legal action for justice for himself and reserved all rights to seek compensation. Chi Tan last night said that he did not want to steal the spotlight, so he only wanted to make three comments. The untrue reports disappointed him very much; he even said that at first he cast Zhao Wenzhou despite many objections, then he tried his best to mediate and retain him. His mistake was he wanted to work with him; he also pointed out that Zhao Wenzhou twisted the truth and made it sound like real. Thus he would give the matter to the law. Would he "fight one on one" with him? Chi Tan said that everyone were adults and lately he was very busy. As for Zhao Wenzhou's character going to Andy On Chi Kit, Chi Tan said that the production was not affected but it had to be shot all over again. Will he work with Zhao Wenzhou again? Chi Tan said that he would not eliminate the possibility. Yesterday was Chi Tan's first meeting with Keanu. They even chatted but did not discuss kung fu. They only talked about work. Chi Tan said that during their chat Keanu moved around like he was practicing Tai Chi and had a very solid footing. Ho Chiu Yi yesterday met Keanu for the second time. The first time was during her audition. Speaking of him choosing Mok Man Wai over her, she joked, "He doesn't know what he is missing. (Are you mad?) I was!" She revealed that earlier she worked on a foreign film with Mickey Rourke. Later she will invest in a commercial comedy with two Best Actors, but for now she was reluctant to reveal who they will be. Some said that this time two Best Actors are with her a Best Actress, she joked that she was "Spanish fly". Will she save Keanu Reeves a role? She said, "That's good too, get him to stand and walk around, just there like a wax figure!" Mok Man Wai currently is working on the film pre production and will not officially start work until April. She will stay in Beijing for several months. Because her husband is a Keanu fan, he will make time to visit the set; however she will not have many scenes with Keanu. She was not disappointed though because he was the director and would communicate more with actors. * (2012/03/19) Zhang Jingchu recently came to Hong Kong to be a guest presenter at tonight's 6th Asian Film Award. Yesterday Jingchu spoke with the Hong Kong media. Recently making fewer movies, she said after making AFTER SHOCK last year she was so busy with work that she felt lost. Thus she deliberately stopped working for awhile, hoping to properly adjust herself. Now she will only make one or two movies a year. Last year Zhang Jingchu went to study in New York for half a year, during which she independently and peacefully returned to herself. When she had time she went to enjoy dramas. She said that earlier she had a group of people taking care of her for a long time, she already suspected whether she was able to take care of her. Then she thought about finding herself again. Next month she will work on the Sofia Coppola directed film THE BLING RING in Las Vegas. In May she will work on an European film. Zhang Jingchu studied directing in school, when will she direct? She admitted that she did not have any plan yet. She felt that as long as it was able to touch people it would be a good movie. Speaking of the nominated films, Jingchu hoped for the cast and crew of A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) would win. This movie moved her very much. The Giddens Ko directed YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Michelle Chen and Ko Chen-Tung were nominated for Best Actress and Best New Actor at the 6th Asian Film Award. Giddens Ko said that Ko Chen-Tung sounded very dumb in real life, this time he had a chance to be nominated he truly was very lucky. Giddens Ko hoped to rest for two years before making another film as he did not want to withstand too much pressure. He felt that sincerity was very important to making a movie and he should never hard sell. He pointed out that he made movies not to sell them. Although YOU was edited for its Mainland release, he would respect the Mainland standard. His other novel THE KILLER WHO NEVER KILLS sold both is Hong Kong and Hollywood rights. He looked forward to seeing the Hollywood version. If it was made into a rotten film, he could only silently accept it but would silently shed tears. Has he thought about marriage? Giddens Ko joked, "Every week I would think about it five or six times, but they would all be momentary impulses. Luckily Girlfriend has not accepted." * (2012/03/19) The Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Janice Man Wing Shan and Candy Yu On On starred NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) after three days in release has become the box office champion. Many viewers have talked about the film online after watching it and even praised Ka Fai and Brother Wa's acting. Ka Fai said, "It's very heart warming, I truly feel lucky. As for whether it will be nominated for any film award, it's too early to say. I am already very satisfied with having everyone's appreciation and recognition of my acting. I am on call at any time, as soon as I receive even better news I will fly back to Hong Kong to celebrate with the production. I will even go to the movies and support myself again to see the live audience's reaction." As for the iPhone case with his likeness being popular online, Ka Fai said, "Hey, brother, I want one too. Lately many fans kept asking me. I really have to stock up with the film company." Brother Wa was not in Hong Kong so his wife Qi Qi went on his behalf to the movies. She immediately reported to him how she felt about the movie and the audience reaction, which he treated as one of his cozy birthday presents this year. As for "mother and daughter" On O nand Man Wing Shan, they did not wait for the film company to celebrate. They already celebrated with high tea. Man Wing Shan excitedly said, "Every night when I receive the box office numbers from co-workers I am both excited and nervous, like waiting for a report card. I really have to thank fans and viewers for their support and encouragement. Many fans' heart ached at the abuse I took from (Michael) Wong Man Tak. I am truly veyr happy to see everyone so into this film." Sister On On said that she was the happiest about having another daughter Man Wing Shan during this film production, and seeing viewers liking this film everyday online. * (2012/03/19) The film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) two nights ago held an advanced screening in Tsim Sha Tsui. Leads Chapman To Man Jat and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam personally went to the cinema to show their appreciation to the advanced screening viewers. As for the numerous advanced screenings before its official release, Ah Jat admitted that the film market was not like it was before. He said, "Elders taught that if they were not confident about the film, they would make money over the first few days of release. On the other hand if they had confidence they would hold more advanced screenings to build word of mouth." He also said that now cinemas are very practical. As long as the opening week box office was poor, they would ask for removal. He said that he was full of anticipation for this film, otherwise not so many advanced screenings would be held. Kong Yeuk Lam was not only busy with promotion but also followed online responses. She brought her family to the premiere, at the end of the viewing her mother was all tears. She even praised Ah Jat as handsome and becoming a new generation "housewife killer". Ah Jat joked, "Poor me, I have always targeted the young girl market. Now I have killed the innocent." Jat Ma who also went to the premiere also praised Kong Yeuk Lam's performance as lovable. He said, "I have been in the business for so many years, Mommy has never praised me once, not to mention my wife. Luckily I didn't bring the Old Lady, otherwise she might leave early and drag everyone with her." Speaking of the strong competition, Ah Jat said that now costume epics and special effect films are popular, heart warming films like theirs could not be compared. However he knew that director Herman Yau Lai To controlled the budget very well. Ah Jat said, "I have made many big films, but this time I have a great sense of satisfaction. I hope investors will continue to support heart warming films like ours." * (2012/03/19) Teddy Robin Kwan two nights ago attended the 17th Independent Film and Video Awards as a guest presenter. Also present was Anthony Wong Yiu Ming. Teddy Robin pointed out that this year's participant quality was higher than last year's. He hoped to find new blood for the film industry. Speaking of the seemingly less opportunities for new comers than before, he said, "I feel timing is more important than opportunity. If you have an opportunity but don't know what to do with it, it is a waste instead. Thus new comers have to keep learning to better themselves and wait for their time." Speaking of new work plans, Teddy revealed that he will work with Raymond Wong Pak Ming and direct a film. The script was still being conceived. This film will not have any subject limit, as he only wanted to spread a certain type of message. Wong Pak Ming's films have always been commercial, Teddy did not mind. Of course he too would like it to be appreciated by all. Who would he like to work with? Teddy joked that everyone wanted to work with stars, but it would depend on whether they would have time. Earlier he wanted to ask Eason Chan Yik Shun, but he was very busy and will not have time until next year. As for the work in competition, Wong Yiu Ming admitted that that he extremely admired the participants' creativity. He also said that he thought NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) and A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) both were full of Hong Kong flavor. * (2012/03/18) Julian Cheung Chi Lam and Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) earlier continued to work on the Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed romantic comedy NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG). After over ten hours they still were not tired. They worked on a series of kiss scenes in the elevator that day. Earlier having worked on Chilam's music video, Sum Yau was very happy about them working together again. How did kissing Chilam feel? Sum Yau awkwardly smiled, "It feels pretty good, we very quickly finished it." She also revealed that lately she has been asked about her love life quite often, actually she just let it take its natural course. "Stuff like this is by chance, I will worry about it when I meet the right one. Mommy hasn't rushed me, I feel a woman doesn't have to date and marry!" Chilam said that he has not made a kiss scene in a long time. This time with Sum Yau he did not have just one. "The story requires them, to have the feeling of love. I am very happy to work with Sum Yau again." Speaking of working overnight, Chilam took the chance to whine to the director. "He seems to have 'conned' me, earlier he said that the shoot will start in the morning and end at night, but I have already worked several nights already!" Yip Lim Sum's birthday was earlier and had to spend it at work. Chilam and Sum Yau already celebrated with the director on the set. Pseudo model Jeana Ho Pui Yu who has worked with Director Yip earlier visited the set that day with her junior colleagues Waye and Coco and celebrated with Director Yip. Yip Lim Sum said, "This year's birthday was very special, I have already cut five cakes. My birthday wish is good health." * (2012/03/18) Giddens Ko yesterday with Lawrence Ko Yu Lun and Lin Hui-Min came to Hong Kong for the Entertainment Expo. He said that he, Ko Chen-Tung and Michelle Chen will attend the Asian Film Award Monday night. He had confidence in both of them and hoped that they would win. He felt very honored and gratified that so many Taiwan films were nominated. Earlier Andy Lau Tak Wa mentioned that originally he had an idea of making YU LAU TAK WA JAU GOR DIK YUT JI (DAYS WITH ANDY LAU), which was similar to his YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE and Giddens Ko beat him to it. To avoid being accused of plagiarism he joked that he was "Yut Ba Doh". Giddens Ko said that Wa Jai was humorous and he was happy to hear his name from his idol's mouth. Recently A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) was going strong at the box office. Some said that it could threaten YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE's Hong Kong box office champion spot. He said not to talk about the challenge as he was very afraid of answering these questions. He too wanted to see A SIMPLE LIFE. * (2012/03/18) Taiwan fantasy film FA YEUNG (RIPPLE)'s cast including Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Jerry Yan (Ying Sing Yuk), Ivy Chen and Joe Cheng Yuen Cheung two days ago met the media in costume in Kaohsiung. The film's backdrop would be set the relationships between pirates and singers over 200 years ago. The production even spent 30 million for the main set "Ripple House" in the Ciaotou District of Kaohsiung. After 20 years away from making a movie in Taiwan, Ng Kwan Yu and Yam Tat Wa were very happy to work with the new generation of Taiwan actors. For her first film production in Tainan, Kwan Yu liked the sunny climate and the food of Kaohsiung. In addition in 2004 she won Best Actress at the Golden Horse Award that was held in Tainan, so Tainan was a lucky place for her. She joked that all of FA YEUNG's cast would have to win the Golden Horse Award. Playing the pirate captain Yam Tat Wa not only needed a special mouth piece but his tattoos required eight hours to complete, which made him state that the costume film production was very tough. He hoped in the next five years he would not make another costume film. However after coming to Taiwan for the film he also fell in love with Taiwan. He said, "I hope to have a chance to buy a property in Tainan and enjoy farm life." Brother Wa whose birthday will be on the 19th also received a cake from the production in advance as the cast sang the birthday song. He said, "I love Taiwan too much." Brother Wa said that fellow pirate in the film Jerry was fully explosive. He even said, "I have never seen anyone so handsome." Jerry responded, "Brother Wa's kindness comes from the heart." He also said that Yam's professionalism deeply encouraged him. Ivy Chen said that the costume film production was very hard. She not only had to grasp the lifestyle in ancient times but the costumes were also more troublesome than modern films; she even revealed that leads Jerry and Cheng Yuen Cheung will not only have an intimate kiss scene but also physical action scenes. Cheng Yuen Cheung joked that this was a costume film that had "all kinds of relationships". * (2012/03/18) Hong Kong director Wong Jing's first film about the workplace was the star studded MARRYING MR. PERFECT (GA GOR 100 FUN NAM YUN). Today, Director Wong led actors Gigi Leung Wing Kei and Ronald Cheng Chung Kei to Shenzhen. He even said, "I will defend the last territory for Hong Kong style comedy." Wong Jing said, "The film mainly was a romantic love story about leftover men and women. Cheng Chung Kei and Leung Wing Kei played a romantic fairy tale, while (Chapman) To Man Jat and Xie Na played an alternative love story. This film very realistically displayed all the hot topics like the hidden rules of the workplace, love in the workplace, and pranks at the workplace." Even more wonderful was the production all received good news. First lead actor Cheng Chung Kei had a daughter and was promoted to "100 point old man", then three leads Leung Wing Kei, Xie Na and Natalie Meng Yao all found their "100 point men". Leung Wing Kei said, "When love arrives, you have to properly grasp it, hold it, then you can receive the happiness of love." Wong Jing said, "Actually chasing girls is very easy, as long as you have genuine heart you can." Cheng Chung Kei joked, "All the secrets are in the film, you can feel all the girl chasing secrets that director Wong Jing and I studied." The release company in order to spread this love even prepared "gifts of love" for viewers. Wong Jing said, "This time I used my years of relationship and luckily received over 20 friends' full support. The leads are Leung Wing Kei, Cheng Chung Kei, To Man Jat and Xie Na, even the support players are in the class of (Eric) Tsang Chi Wai, (Sandra) Ng Kwan Yu, Guo Degang." He said, "I dare to guarantee. This film definitely will make you laugh until you cry, it is the most effective 'stress release way' from the busy work life." According to Wong Jing, at the end of this year he will make a serious film that will have no comedy at all. Yet he was still very optimistic about Hong Kong style comedy's future and felt that it will be the invincible trend of future film development. * (2012/03/17) Sun Honglei and Lam Suet have been working on the Johnnie To Kei Fung directed police film DRUG WAR (DUK JIN). While shooting gun fight and explosive scenes in Tianjin, Lam Suet suffered injuries around his right eye from the reactionary bullets. Yesterday Lam Suet posted a photo of his injuries online. "Hurt, I am really hurt! The reactionary bullet really reacted! How could it reaction reach the eye!" After over two months of shooting in Tianjin, DUK JIN is already nearing its end. To Kei Fung left the major scenes toward the end of the shoot. With traffic police coordination an industrial area's street was blocked off. After learning that many viewers were teary eyed after the movie, JM felt very happy. She said, "My assistant and I after watching the premiere could not stop crying, I was being abused! It's very tragic and heart wrenching! Mommy's heart ached when she saw me being hit. (Did you feel any pressure over the box office?) No, I only want to do my part." She revealed that in the future she still will mainly develop in film. Currently she had two new films in negotiation and will try her hands on an action role. With 1,054,875 it became the box office champion that day, which gave the production a boost. Currently working on a movie in Malaysia, Cheung Ka Fai after learning the good news excitedly ordered himself a happy meal as a little treat for himself and a little reward for his previously hellish weight loss performance. Ka Fai gleefully said, "Such an opening day box office performance is truly encouraging, aside from thanking the audience for their support I also have to thank Sister Deanie (Ip Tak Han) and Brother Wa (Andy Lau Tak Wa)'s A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) for an exciting opening for us, again attracting viewers to return to cinemas in support of Hong Kong film and successfully passing the baton to us." Ka Fai wished that upcoming Hong Kong film releases will also perform well from the beginning to the end of the year. His next wish was receiving film company boss Mr. Billy Kong Chi Keung and director Roy Chow Hin Yeung's call to return to Hong Kong and celebrate. Ka Fai also saw many fans' posts online about their support of the film NIGHTFALL. He was the most touched to see a fan telling him not to be satisfied with himself and even encouraged him to defeat himself to defeat others. He was very glad that so many around him loved him, including a group of fans. He saw a fan who tabulated the opening day box office numbers from his films THE BEAST STALKER (JING YUN), THE STOOL PIGEON (JING YUN), THE BEAST STALKER opened with 480,000, THE STOOL PIGEON with 860,000, NIGHTFALL opened with over 1 million on the first day. He completely received their good wishes and excessive self satisfaction was not his personality. Working on a film in Taiwan, Simon Yam Tat Wa also revealed online that although he was working overseas his heart was still with NIGHTFALL's Hong Kong release. His wife Qi Qi also could not wait to go to support her husband with her friends and even praised the film as touching and full of love. * (2012/03/17) LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUNG GIU YU JI MING) will be released on March 29. Earlier the film company already held an advanced media screening to test the waters, the response of which was extremely good. Afterward radio DJs and media friends rapidly spread the word online. Miriam Yeung Chin Wa even received a call from friends in the industry as they praised her acting as top notch, which she was very excited about. Commercial Radio's Kitty Yuen Siu Yi after watching the film also stated that she fell in love with the character of Cheung Chi Ming and thus deeply loved Shawn Yue Man Lok. The audience was the most pleasantly surprised with Huang Xiaoming's character. Huang Xiaoming this was appeared as a guest star and only had two scenes. Yet he made the audience applaud and shriek. He himself also said that this was his wildest performance in his film career. Although he only guest starred he still worked hard on his performance in order to show the audience his comedy filled side. On the day of the shoot, the crew had a very tough time with holding back their laughter. Xiaoming said that this performance was very fun and he enjoyed it very much. Chin Wa said that her scene with Xiaoming made the crew's "hair stand on its end", because she has never imagined that Huang Xiaoming actually could play such a scene. * (2012/03/17) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Shu Qi were guests on tonight's atv program CLIFTON KO MICROBLOG to promote their upcoming new film release. Shu Qi revealed that in the film she played two sisters and the performance was very tough. "At first when I received the script I felt it was very challenging as I was able to play different characters in the same film. Yet after the performance I thought having to play several characters was very tough and truly regretted it a little!" Although during the shoot Shu Qi constantly had to brave the chilly weather to perform in the water, she joked that she learned to "make the best of a tough situation". She said, "In one scene I had to shoot in sewage, so I could only 'make the best of the situation' and imagine myself shooting on the Maldives beach and water!" In her years in film, she admitted that Director Hou Hsiao-Hsien had a rather large influence on her. "In the past my acting was only based on instinct until I ran into Hou Hsiao-Hisen, who made me realize that the director should guide actors into performing and actors needed to fully follow the director's guidance to have good performance." In addition, Yue Man Lok's film production rate in recent years has been numerous, with five to six releases on average every year. He explained, "I didn't start with any drama academy or performing art training class, I can only learn my craft from practice. I wanted very much to perform in many films so I could absorb experience as quickly as possible and build a good acting foundation." Among his numerous work, MOSS (CHING TOI) with director Derek Kwok Chi Kin was the most memorable for Lok Jai. Because the director and the actor both set off spark, everyone daringly worked so this was his favorite film. * (2012/03/17) The film LOVE LIFITNG (GO GUI OI) two nights ago held a premiere, Director Herman Yau Lai To, leads Chapman To Man Jat and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam all attended. Kong Yeuk Lam even wore seven figure worth diamond jewelry to the scene. To Man Jat said that he has give diamond earrings to his wife and wore them himself, but because he lost them several times after drinking he lost seven figures in total. Kong Yeuk Lam said that she wanted to receive a diamond ring. Was she in a hurry to get married? She smiled and denied that, saying if she found someone she liked diamond ring or not did not mind. Since she mostly worked in the Mainland did she have any rich kid suitors? She said, "I really don't, maybe because I am working in Dunhuang the location is too remote. I too wish that romance will arrive soon." When reporters suggested for To Man Jat to introduce hot properties in the business to her, To Man Jat said that Kong Yeuk Lam liked talented guys. All he knew were female stars. In addition the industry had no hot property, as he joked that a foreigner might be even more suitable for her. * (2012/03/16) Earlier William Chan Wai Ting visited Chan Wai Man who was known for playing mobsters for his new film JAT JIK (PROMOTION) along with Michelle Wai (Si Nga), his manager, director for lunch at a coffee shop. Many around the restaurant were surprised to see artists in the Kwun Tong industrial area. Chan Wai Man showed his true nature, he was pointing and poking as he was telling the story. Si Nga and William were completely focused. They chatted for half a hour before leaving. Chan Wai Man even put his arm around William's shoulder and seemed to be rather pleased. William admitted that he met with Chan Wai Man mainly for JAT JIK. "In the film I played a Wise Guy with brains, Brother Wai Man mainly taught me about how speech manners and gestures should be." * (2012/03/16) Fama members Lok Wing and C Kwan earlier caught the eyes of a 3D category III film producer as they were invited to play prostitute clients. Lok Wing felt that he could not do the part justice, most importantly he could not get his wife's permission and he worried about having to explain to their child in the future. Lok Wing said, "Right now 3D films often have stuff flying out, I don't have anything in the front or the back. I don't have any experience with prostitutes. In the film I would have to act with many pretty girls with outstanding figures, how would I answer to my wife? In the future my son after seeing the movie will ask, 'who is that auntie who isn't wearing any clothes'. How will I explain? I heard my slim figure caught their eyes. (Khalil) Fong Datong was slimmer than me, he is more suitable." C Kwan said, "He would play john A, I would play john B. My belly will fly out. I don't mind performing, I don't mind category III films." * (2012/03/16) The Ann Hui On Wa directed film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) not only won at the Venice Film Festival and the Taiwan Golden Horse Award, since it March 8 Mainland release it has been climbing at the box office. Its opening day made 13 million RMB, breaking all March 8 film release opening box office record in the Mainland and the March 8 Chinese film first week box office record. It also broke Hui On Wa film's total Mainland box office record and the highest Hong Kong dramatic film box office. Thus the film company yesterday held a celebration in Beijing. Leads Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han and Qin Hailu attended. At the celebration, the host first announced that A SIMPLE LIFE created box office records in four lands on both sides of the straits. Its Mainland first week box office broke 36 million in four days; in Hong Kong and Macao it made almost HK$ 9 million over three days of the weekend and crushed Hollywood film JOHN CARTER. In Taipei it first week box office was NT$ 7.8 million and 1.6 million across Taiwan, with the high film admission rate. As of March 14 its broke 70 million RMB in four lands on both sides of the straits. For the film's critical and commercial success, the soul characters of the film Ip Tak Han and Wa Jai not only thanked the director but also the crew and the audience. At the same time director Hui On Wa's persistence was rewarded and gave all filmmakers who loved drama a shot of confidence. * (2012/03/16) The Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced and action directed film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) has fallen into a dispute with one of the leads Vincent Zhao Wenzhou since its production start. Both sides recently kept issuing statements, which led to continuous outside speculations. Two days ago Zhao Wenzhou in a Mainland newspaper interview spoke for the first time about the real reason of leaving the production. He said that Yen Chi Tan without his permission changed the script, forcing him to leave. He called Yen a "scene hog" and urged Chinese film productions to strengthen script change specifications. Zhao Wen Zhou said, "I want to say that the real arrogant one wasn't me but Yen Chi Tan. Because I could fight with Yen Chi Tan in the film, I was especially excited. This was also the point that drove me to agree to perform, I even included this scene in the contract. If the script was changed, it must have my permission." Yet the new script removed many scenes. His part was moved from the main story to a secondary plot and his position went from lead to supporting role. "They violated the contract. On February 27th I asked for a meeting with the director, the production supervisor and Yen Chi Tan to discuss the script change directions. Because a Hong Kong newspaper claimed that I was upset, at the meeting I asked the production to issue a statement the next day. Everyone on hand agreed, only Yen chi Tan did not say anything." The next day, Zhao Wenzhou received the production notice that the statement was scrapped due to Yen Chi Tan not giving permission. "On the 29th, the production terminated its contract with me." DUT SHU SUN FUN on the 4th issued a statement through its microblog and criticized Zhao Wenzhou for a variety of arrogant behavior, his one day room and board called 50,000 yuan and he demanded the production to be responsible for his wife, two children, nanny, English instructor and other expenses. Zhao Wenzhou said that this was only the production's smoke screen to cover it real conflict focus of script changes. "Earlier I heard people said that Yen Chi Tan was a 'scene hog', I now suspect he was in control of that report." As for the reason, he said that he had no idea. Yen Chi Tan's spokesperson responded, "It isn't the truth, Chi Tan doesn't need to respond. At first Chi Tan highly recommended Zhao Wenzhou to the film company. After learning that he did not accept any work order, Chi Tan even took the initiative to investigate. If Zhao Wenzhou truly said that, Chi Tan felt extremely disappointed." * (2012/03/16) Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa in LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) were not only stars but also performers of two songs. The film's original soundtrack was officially released today. Earlier Ah Lok worked on the music video for his song FLOOD (FAN LAM). Ah Lok even directed. That day he even picked up many LOVE IN THE PUFF classic scenes. The shoot took place on a very humid and hot day that rained many times. Yet Ah Lok still insisted on shooting on location in the alley where he and Chin Wa met in PUFF. Ah Lok also kept communicating with the cinematographer and even tried his hand on the camera for the best result. Later the team went to an overpass in Kowloon Bay and a convenience store. Ah Lok said, "Originally Director Pang should be the one who made the music video, but he was too busy. So I who was the most familiar with the film aside from him was responsible." Ah Lok had nothing but praise for his new song. He said, "FLOOD actually is from Wanting's English song DRENCHED. I heard it and I liked it, so I adapted it." As for the film being selected as the Hong Kong International Film Festival opening film before its release, Ah Lok could not be happier. * (2012/03/16) According to a Mainland report, Vicki Zhao Wei's new film TO OUR YOUTH THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FADE earlier while shooting in Nanjing had a struggle between the crew and the crowd. To many viewers, Zhao Wei was a star who they grew up with. Thus after the production arrived in Nanjing, many would watch Zhao Wei make her movie. Because the shoot required silence, fans created disarray in the crowd. Zhao Wei once urged everyone to maintain silence during the shoot online. On March 13, the team shot outside a bun shop. Originally the shoot was scheduled for 7PM and the street was already filled with people, who were rushing the crowd toward the production. Because the production was affected, the crew began driving people away. According to a witness, a worker ignited something white, the smoke of which made breathing very hard. The worker called Nanjing people low quality while burning. The move immediately angered Nanjing people and they began to argue. Later the crew even used violence against the people and hit someone. The matter got out of hand. Finally only with a police presence was order restored. The shoot was also forced to stop midway. After this incident some immediately asked the production and the director Zhao Wei for confirmation. The assistant of Zhao Wei's manager Chen Rong said that Zhao Wei had no idea about the struggle but admitted that fans affected the production progress. "The production needed silence, so with all the fans on the side it had no way to operate normally." Yesterday the film's promotional company apologized while mildly pleaded for a reduction of onlookers. Since the production began, Zhao Wei has been very stressed. Because of Nanjing's unstable weather Zhao Wei even fell ill. * (2012/03/15) Shu Qi in the film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) played twins sisters who ended up at odds. In one scene she had to "fight herself" in a struggle on a boat at sea. To play this scene she was in the freezing cold water for almost 10 hours and even because she was too in character that she scared people away. Shu Qi played twin sisters who had relationships with Shawn Yue Man Lok. After the younger sister learned about her older sister's relationship with Yue Man Lok, they rowed to sea. The younger sister was relentless, during the struggle she fell into the sea. The older sister extended her hand to save her, but then she used an oar to splash the water with a murderous look on her face; later, the younger sister raised her hand from the water to try to pull her sister in. When the sea calmed down again, only one person returned to shore. Shu Qi was very in character when she made the "sister struggle" and scared away the director and the crew. Director Carol Lai Miu Shuet remembered at the time the crew on the set was unusually silent. No one dared to be near Shu Qi. Shu Qi had to change costumes over a dozen times and finally she truly collapsed. She said, "Acting with myself is very tough already, I also had to fight myself. I actually was a super masochist." * (2012/03/15) Gigi Leung Wing Kei two nights ago along with Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Chapman To Man Jat and Mainland actors Hu Ran and Wen Chao attended the MARRYING MR. PERFECT (GA GOR 100 FUN NAM YUN) premiere. Gigi was asked whether her 100 point man has arrived. She sweetly smiled and said, "We have so many people, and I need space to work." She also said that she had a lot of fun on this shoot because Ronald and Ah Jat often "sang a duet" in front of her so she happily made her salary; she also said that both were good men, one has become a father and loved his daughter very much while the other was known for loving his wife. Although they were not known for their looks, they had perfect scores inside. She still was in the newlywed stage and still learning. Has she asked Ronald for parenthood advice? She said that she would wait until she would have a baby, but she felt that family truly changed a person a lot. For example after marriage she has become more considerate, kept her other half in mind when she acted and felt more responsible. Gigi admitted that she would cook whenever she was free, but her husband cooked better than her. She sometimes would only buy some frozen wonton and dumpling to cook for her, which he did not appreciate very much. Ronald meanwhile claimed to be Mr. Perfect. "I try to get 100 points first, then slowly deduct from them!" Gigi revealed that he constantly mentioned his daughter on the set. He immediately explained, "Because after my daughter was born I had to keep working right away, I missed her very much. All day along I would be on whatsapp and send photos. (When will your official banquet be?) When my daughter learns to walk." He said that his daughter was already eight months old, still did not know how to say Papa yet but made sounds like Mama. He was not envious though. Has he discovered his daughter's acting genes? He said, "No, musically she does though. When she acts up she would quiet down as long as we play songs." [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 18 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD PICKY ROGER MISSES SISTER PEACH, LAMENTS MISERY Looking at the Nokia phone that is so old that you cannot even remember the model number, then look at the respondent who is sitting on the opposite side, he does not resemble a 62-year-old. He is the film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s live version Roger. He put on a straightly ironed shirt, a blue jacket, glasses, and a smile. When watching A SIMPLE LIFE, the Andy Lau Tak Wa played young master Roger is introverted. I worried about constant dead air during the interview with the real Roger, I was even more worried about his young master personality. Fortunately, the Roger in front of me is very talkative, without young master temper, and even a little humorous. Admitting to be picky he jokes that since Sister Peach departed he has been in misery, because now he can only eats leftover food and unable to taste Sister Peach's signature dishes anymore. The movie A SIMPLE LIFE made Deanie Ip Tak Han into a four time Best Actress, advanced sale has been sold out. Seemingly it has been awhile since we have a Hong Kong film that has been the talk of the town. The male and female leads Lau Tak Wa and Ip Tak Han have been repeatedly interviewed and talked about the movie, even the producer Lee Yan Lam (Roger) has become a hot interview target. I meet Roger in a Tsim Sha Tsui restaurant. While waiting, a man comes over with a smile and asks, "Are you meeting me for an interview? I am Roger." After a careful look at his clothing, he truly is dressed exactly like Lau Tak Wa in the film: a blue jacket, shirt, trousers, sneakers, but missing is a black backpack. In its place is a black bag. Roger after sitting down brings up a stack of Sister Peach's old photos, while looking at the yellowing photos he starts to talk about his story with Sister Peach sister, "I was the closest with Sister Peach when I was little, at the time I didn't have much to worry about. Then I went to study abroad at age 19, when I came back after living independently for 10 years she and I began to have a gap. At the time my desk was a mess, Sister Peach would definitely tidy it up for me. However I still had order amid the chaos, I knew where I put stuff. At the time I told her, 'I don't need tp be so tidy!' I believed at the time I gave her some hard feeling, which should be the largest conflict spot in our years together. At the same time she shrank my clothes in the laundry, ironed my pants crooked and I would say something. Although I didn't very severely scold her, Sister Peach definitely took it very seriously." Two Deaths In One Day Then Sister Peach suffered a stroke in 2003 and moved into a home for the elderly early, their relationship grew close again. Roger said, "At the time I constantly had to go to the Mainland for work, but no matter what I would visit her once a week, sometimes two or three times. After she moved to the senior home we instead had more to talk about, when we lived in the same home it was like going back to the hotel. A lot of times Sister Peach complained to her about people at the home, the nurses and the food." After three years in the senior home, Roger admitted that Sister Peach's living environment and physical conditions were not great at the time. "She didn't want to become my burden. Because my Grandma had a stroke, Sister Peach knew even ore that I wouldn't take care of her. As a man, how do I help her with her hygiene? How do I help her to go to the bathroom?" In the film when Sister Peach was seriously ill Wa Jai agreed to reduce medication with the doctor. He immediately returned to work in the Mainland, then the next scene jumped to Sister Peach's funeral. In reality, things were even more dramatic. Roger bitterly smiles and says, "That day I took an early flight back to the Mainland, a colleague forgot his computer and went home top pick it up. Then I received a classmate's call, saying that another classmate had cerebral hemorrhaging and died suddenly. I began to call other classmates. Then I received the news of Sister Peach's death. Two deaths in one day put me in confusion and panic, as I had to call both family and classmates. Later because of fog, the flight that was originally scheduled for Beijing flew to Dalian. I thought it was a message that Sister Peach gave me: the world has so many disasters, I shouldn't be too sad over her death." Even so, traces of sadness still leak from Roger's eyes as he says, "This sadness can never be wiped away." Being Spoiled Turns Him Into A Picky Eater To relax the mood, I talk about Sister Peach's signature dishes with Roger. A brilliant smile immediately flashes on his face. "Ox tongue is Sister Peach's best dish. My favorite is soy sauce chicken and roasted chicken. Sister Peach would buy a chicken and butcher it herself. She said if she brought it back first before blood letting the meat would taste better. Then she would brush honey and baked it just right. So far I still haven't had a roasted chicken that tasted as good as she made it." Because Sister Peach spoiled him since he was little, Roger has to have live fish, one vegetable dish, one meat dish and soup for dinner every night. He says, "These few dishes were there almost everyday, after I ate Sister Peach ate the rest. Her cooking really was very delicious, which made me very picky." Roger also jokes that "he has suffered for as long as he has enjoyed". he who would never eat leftover food now only has leftover food to eat. He shakes his head as he says, "When Sister Peach went to the senior home, she asked her friend Mrs. Chen to introduce some friends for her to interview. She wanted to find someone to take care of me, finally she found a hourly maid. On every visit she would tidy up my home, cook a few days of food for me then box them up and put them in the freezer. I would reheat them when I eat." At this time Roger shakes his head again and joked, "What misery, after the interview I have to go home and have leftover." Roger's picky problem also makes friends afraid of eating out with him. Sometimes even the restaurant service staff is afraid of me. He says, "When my friends go out to eat with me they wouldn't order more dishes, because whatever they order I would criticize. If we go to someplace high class we are usually fine, but I only point out any issue with the food because I want to tell them what mistakes they have in their way of cooking. I want the restaurant to correct them. yet many people feel I am messing around. I feel I am more than picky, no everyone can take that." Trying On Pants Turns Into A Farce As for clothing, Roger actually has only worn the English brand Derek Rose pajamas over the years, for casual wear he only wore the French brand New Man. Roger continued, "Do you know that even for the same pant style, with two different pairs of pants their waists would have a difference of two inches. So when I go to try on pants, if the same style comes in five colors I would ask the salesman to bring them all for me to try." Roger jokes once when he went into the fitting room for half an hour, the salesman thought he fainted. Finally I ask Roger if he has anything that he is not demanding about. He thinks for five seconds and says, "No, I am demanding in everything. They have to perfect too. I feel only Sister Peach can stand me." Undeterred by High Salary Offer Those who have seen A SIMPLE LIFE not only want to know more about Sister Peach but also the whereabouts of the kitten Kaka. Roger reveals that Sister Peach in their old home had two cats. "Kaka right now is under the care of Mrs. Chen's daughter. Mrs. Chen is Sister Peach's buddy. In the film Yuen Qiu played Mrs. Chen, but later it was cut out." Kaka is a kitten that a Mei Foo neighbor gave to Sister Peach. It stayed with the Lee family for seven to eight years until Sister Peach went to the senior home, then Mrs. Chen took over. How is the Paul Chun Pui played Uncle Kin who often borrowed money from Sister Peach for prostitutes now? Roger said that when he returned to the senior home in 2009, many residents have already moved or departed, thus he did not know where Uncle Kin was either. Encouraging Senior Home Residents Sister Peach worked at the Lee family for 60 years and had never taken any time off. She was like a member of the Lee family and she was very loyal to the Lee family. Roger says, "Someone tried to steal her away, a foreigner who lived in the hills. The offer was higher than ours, but Sister Peach never thought about leaving. later she even told us that someone wanted to steal her." Finally Roger believes the attention that A SIMPLE LIFE has brought is what Sister Peach deserves. Instead the attention that it has brought him came too easily. He says, "Sister Peach's last three years were pretty painful, I never thought that people would notice her life. Right now because of the movie many people know her, I am very happy. I hope through this story to encourage people who live in senior homes. Instead my feet are very firmly planted on the ground. I shouldn't get any atteniton, half a year later no one may remember me. I would gladly be an ordinary person." An ordinary person makes an ordinary Ma Jeh story exciting! Roger next week will release a book SISTER PEACH AND ME, in which he records in detail his relationship with Sister Peach. This book is also a mental therapy for him over Sister Peach's passing. - LEE PUI YU 2. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 18 2012, FILM WORDS ROY CHOW'S HONG KONG MYSTERY IMPROVES The Roy Chow Hin Yeung directed, Christine To Chi Long written NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI PO) is an obvious improvement from their previous collaboration MURDERER (SAT YUN FAN) as they achieve both drama and action with a detective mystery. With its twists and turns of suspense it is a pure domestic masterpiece. It also proves that during the Hong Kong film transition not only "veterans" are substantial like the unconventional A SIMPLE LIFE being both a critical and commercial hit, mainstream films also have some promising newcomers. NIGHTFALL Ending Is Within Expectation Two years ago MURDERER was a surprise hit and could be considered catching the audience's curiosity. Yet it was strange circumstances just for the sake of being strange, the layout was so absurd that it received poor reviews. Speaking of which, the main problem was not strange circumstances (drama allows any bizarre myths and ghost stories) but the lack of professional standards, it had the gimmick but no credibility. The foreign film ORPHAN was also about the rare mystery of an adult psycho killer with the face of a child, which was more sensible and convincing. Now NIGHTFALL is also very odd and deranged (To Chi Long written films must have unusual plots) but much smoother. Nick Cheung Ka Fai plays a released prisoner who seems to be on a very violent path of revenge. Suspected to be in connection with the tragic murder of a tenor Michael Wong Man Tak, he has detective Simon Yam Tat Wa hard on his case. The story involves two murders over twenty years that strangely coincide. Fortunately it is reasonable, in particular Chow Hin Yeung's direction is made perfect with practice. The details of the scenes are flexible and realistic, the story development is fascinating. The bloody prison battle opening is very intense, then the mystery of the released prisoner, the pianist's abnormal obsession over an adopted daughter, the detective and the daughter's relationship all captivate the audience. Although the ending is within expectation, the flm achieves decent drama. This time Cheung Ka Fai plays a seemingly mad mute with a lot of toughness. Yam Tat Wa as the veteran cop is great as usual. Two budding actresses also perform well, Janice Man Wing Shan is innocent, elegant, and lovely, Kay Tse On Kay as a policewoman is cool and cute. Wong Man Tak, his onscreen wife Candice Yu On On, as well as many co-stars, have their unique flavor. [ SPOILER ALERT ] The mystery in the film between the real culprit and a miscarriage of justice is impressively choreographed, the flaw lies in the desperate scapegoat plot. Because manslaughter may not necessarily end up in a conviction, not to mention accidental contacts that lead to a slip off a building, why would someone bother to become a suicidal scapegoat? I feel the arrangement should be made more appropriately. (Three and a half out of five stars) LOVE STRIKES Is Full Of Conventional Entertainment This week the Japanese film adaptation of the popular comic LOVE STRIKES also achieves above average conventional entertainment, funnier and more vivid than TRAIN MAN a few years ago. Mirai Moriyama plays a homely 30-year-old man with low self esteem and three withouts (job, education, love). He works as an online magazine reporter, very appropriate full of a sense of self-deprecation; director Hitoshi Ohne's technique is funny and brutally on point. This is a fantasy of the toad and the swan, the little guy finally win the heart of the beauty. Though it may not be convincing, fortunately hilarity abound. It also has a real feel of a modern city. The lonely working woman's solo karaoke performance is particularly vivid and moving. Japanese popular culture depiction of the modern people's romantic trap and mystery still leads in East Asia, it makes more sense than the Chinese work and has laughter and tears. (Three out of five stars) In contrast, the newly released Wong Jing romantic comedy MARRYING THE PERFECT MAN is antiquated and absurd, again with the playboy heir (Ronald Cheng Chung Kei) posing as a little attendant in a sincere pursuit of a female employee (Gigi Leung Wing Kei). Tt is truly outdated and distorted. Although like a Lunar New Year piece it has assistance from a lot of movie stars, it is still unable to attract viewers and is no match for Wong Jing's earlier film MR. AND MRS. GAMBLER (LAN DOH FU DAU LAN DOH CHAI) that was quite comical. (One out of five stars) KJ: MUSIC AND LIFE director Cheung King Wai's independent documentary ONE NATION TWO CITIES is a special screening alternative choice that is worth recommending. It follows the long term awkward situation of a Mainland woman who attempts to establish Hong Kong residency, especially impressive is her Guangdong relatives and friends' conditions. The female piano teacher is especially refreshing and witty. After watching I feel that living in the Mainland may be even better, how bother to flood to Hong Kong? (Two and a half out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 3. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 18 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH CHINESE FILM TICKET PRICES SHOULD DROP During the Political Consultative Conference session, six Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference members including directors Feng Xiaogang, Zhang Yimou, Yin Li, Feng Xiaoning, Chen Xingguo and Beijing Film Academy president Zhang Huijun all stated in a "strengthening the film industry support and rectification" joint proposal: movie ticket prices should drop. Many people fail to understand why several industry representatives would suddenly suggest a fare drop. The largest reason of which may be the responses to the Film Board earlier through the China Film Association issued "guidance on the further specification of the film market ticketing management". This "opinion" was also known as "discount limit order", one of the restrictions was limiting member tickets and group tickets to be no less than 70 percent of the theaters listed price. On the surface it seems like an attempt to keep the original price from going down, but actually it does not want the theater listing price to be "superficially high". According to the statistics of the Motion Picture Association of America, in the third quarter of last year the average U.S. ticket price was US$ 7.94, only about fifty yuan; while many Chinese theaters' fare was 80 yuan (excluding 3D or extended length film). Some movie theater listed price illegally at 80 yuan, after the discount they added beverage and popcorn to admission. The production companies did not receive the proper share of the fare. In the long run no one will be willing to invest in movies. Thus the expectation of the "Opinions" is to reduce fare additions, on the one hand to protect the interests of viewers while on the other to protect the income of the producers. For an 80 yuan ticket, for example, a member discount can be up to half of the amount, which is 40 yuan. "Opinions" highest suggested retail price is 50 yuan, with no more than 30% discount it is 35 yuan. If strictly enforced, it will be a win-win situation. The general misunderstanding of the "Opinions" is that the Film Board does not want to discount ticket prices too much and affect the box office numbers, feeling that lower fares would be more able to attract viewers. Yet those with insight know that ticket prices must come down, so the six CPPCC National Committee members' proposal reflects the industry's mainstream view. As regards to whether they have misread the further specification of the film market ticketing management guidance, no one knows since dropping the film ticket prices achieves their goals anyway. Also some feels that ticket prices should be market rather than the Film Board guidelines determined. Yet in terms of developing countries and some regions that have already entered the market economy, the official guidelines sometimes would help consumers or industry investors instead. The market economy is thriving in Hong Kong, therefore it has increasingly less cinema. When people want to watch movies they have to go to designated areas, which is the consequences of lacking government "interference". - TIN LIK 4. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 18 2012, HOTSPOT PURSUIT LOVE STRIKES CATERS TO OTAKU TASTES Although LOVE STRIKES, based on a comic book, reflects the 30 something otaku personality and the phenomenon due to gender imbalance in Japan currently, the situation actually is prevailing in Asia and even the world. The otaku, bicycling men, drug men, carnivore men to the present grazing man all reflect how modern men shut themselves in the virtual online world more and more as the internet and information become more common place. Their personalities are not strong, they do not have much ambition, lack self esteem, do not go out much or say much, they have little to no interest, life does not matter, they are extremely empty and lonely inside, readiness and response are relatively slow. In their love life they long for girlfriends but feel they have a hard time with getting good impressions. Thus they indulge in a computer all day, hoping to find a sense of satisfaction and achievement in the virtual dream space. In LOVE STRIKES Fujimoto (Mirai Moriyama) is one of the best examples. LOVE is a fantasy-style film, which not only enables Fujimoto to meet online his dream goddess Miyuki (Masami Nagasawa) but also brings him out of his dwelling and puts him between three women of different personalities. Most importantly, Fujiomoto works at a trendy information website, his trendy fashion and trendy music score completely hit the Otaku characteristics and mentality nowadays and interpret their dream world. No wonder in Japan it was not only a commercial and critical hit, but also took the male and female leads' acting career to the next level. The movie even brought out a new model of the relations between the sexes now. Increasingly serious problem of "leftover women" phenomenon leads to extramarital affairs, one-night stands or even third party problems become increasingly common, coupled with the more and more open sexual attitudes of the younger generation it forms another kind of social problems, not only in the movie (Japan) but also in Hong Kong. Celebrities, artists, and even the younger generation's rich relationships and marriages (cohabitation and unwed parenthood) and the complexity of sexual relations have gone from surprising to now seemingly acceptable to everyone. All this tells us is that gender relations have entered an era of diversity, the four women in the film represent different attitude and types. The film focused on Fujimoto's emotional development and did not describe in depth or analyze their inner world, which actually is worth exploring and savoring as it should also be a hot topic for future films about young people. - CHOW YI 5. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 17 2012, SOMETHING TO SAY NICK CHEUNG KA FAI, SIMON YAM TAT WA VIOLENT BEST ACTORS KEEP DAUGHTERS AWAY Simon Yam Tat Wa is stylish, Nick Cheung Ka Fai is cool. Two Best Actors have challenged different roles, but the more intimate and natural performance must be after the make up removal the hubby and the father at home. Wa Jai and Ka Fai recently worked together in the movie NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO). In the film they are on at the opposites of good and evil. The acting contest has them setting off spark in the front of the camera and exchanging parenthood tips off cameras. Actually both Best Actors do not want her daughter to see their work because they feel that the violent scenes may affect the children negatively. Seemingly the two little princesses have to wait until they grow up before they have the opportunity to share their fathers' filming experience. Starring Yam Tat Wa and Cheung Ka Fai, NIGHTFALL opened two days ago. With a box office of 1,054,875 it became the box office champion that day. Currently filming in Malaysia Ka Fai was very excited, as soon as he woke up he had a complete happy meal to reward himself. He even said, "During the shoot I had to be on a hellish diet, I consider this a bit of return now." Ka Fai continued, "I have to thank Sister Deanie (Ip Tak Han) and Brother Wa (Andy Lau)'s A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) for leading the charge and attracting the audience back to Hong Kong films, so we successful took the baton. Hopefully the next good news will tell me to come back to Hong Kong for a celebration." Daughters To Meet And Make Friends Later Of course Yam Tat Wa and Ka Fai contributed to the NIGHTFALL box office success. Actually behind their success they both have wives who take care of their families for them, as Qi Qi and Esther Kwan Wing Ho both gave birth to baby girls. When the two kind fathers made NIGHTFALL, on camera they traded acting chops while off camera they exchanged fatherhood advice. Wa Jai and Ka Fai admired each other and their daughters were close in age. They did not rule out for them to meet and make friends in the future and continue their two Best Actor fathers' unusual friendship. Soon to turn 57, stylish father Wa Jai has always regarded the now 7-year-old daughter Yam Ching Kai (Ella) as a little girlfriend. He and his beloved wife, Qi Qi, worked together with a division of labor, responding to their daughter's every whim but never spoiling her. Wa Jai insisted on having to turn into a strict father sometimes. "When something is wrong, I would reason things out with her, the old set of discipline can't be used on children today." Ka Fai's Daughter Only Loves Mommy Wa Jai believed that setting an example was better than preaching, so everyday he must be his daughter's good example. Ella did not spend much time with her father. Fortunately now with technological advances, father and daughter can talk over video conference and get closer. Wa Jai enjoyed telling story for Ella the most. "Every time I return home from overseas, no matter how busy or tired I am I have to tell Ella a story. If I am at home, every morning I have to eat breakfast with her and listen to her telling me about what happened at school." In comparison, the 44-year-old cool father Ka Fai actually has a similar fatherhood experience as Wa Jai's. As soon as Ka Fai has time he would be his wife and daughter's driver for pick up or drop off in order to make time for the joy of family. Ka Fai and his 6-year-old daughter Cheung Tung (Brittany) have a harmonious relationship; but because Ka Fai did not spend as much time with his daughter as his wife Kwan Ho Wing, every time Brittany is asked whether she loves Papa or Mama the most, she with her innocence would directly pick Mommy. Ka Fai jealously said, "I treat my daughter like a best friend, but she prefers Mommy first. My heart aches but I am used ot it." Ka Fai understands that his wife since their daughter was born has personally taken care of her. Brittany of course loves Mommy the most. Later he added, "You really can't mind stuff like this." Wa Jai and Ka Fai due to work often had to challenge the real them to play roles that were distinct from their true personality on camera. Sometimes they even had to play some dangerous characters who no one should be near. Only Allowed To Watch ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW Wa Jai in the film NIGHT AND FOG (TIN SHUI WAI DIK YEH YU MO) played Lee Sam. In the film he was unemployed and lived on comprehensive social security assistance with his young Mainland wife, due to excessive mental stress a family tragedy ensued. The character was terrifying. Wa Jai said, "I rarely let my daughter watch my movies, too many murder and arson scenes, too much violence would have bad influence on them. With so many films in the past, I only let her watch just one -- ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU)." Of course Wa Jai's kind father role in ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW can be considered the closest to the real life, plus the film fulfilled his dreams and won him the 29th Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actor. Daughter Ella enjoyed the film just to share his father's honor. Since his film career started, most of Ka Fai's characters were villains, even when he played the police he inevitably had bloody fight scenes that were not suitable for children. He said, "My daughter rarely supports my movies." Ka Fai strictly prohibited daughter Brittany from admitting in support, which was absolutely understandable. Ultimately children in this innocence phase of growing up are not suitable for viewing such excessively violent movies. Synopsis: Released Prisoners Plots Revenge NIGHTFALL is an action thriller, as the title suggests it is the cops and robbers story. In the story Cheung Ka Fai committed crimes when he was young. He was convicted of the rape and murder of a young girl and sent to prison. At the end of his prison term he was released. He wants revenge and at the same time encounters a pretty girl who looks like the victim (Janice Man Wing Shan) and his desire for retaliation is triggered. He cannot help but track Man Wing Shan and her family. At the same time, Man Wing Shan's conductor father is found burnt to death in a bizarre manner. Cheung Ka Fai is the police's prime suspect. The police realizes that he was sentenced to prison 20 years ago. The officer in charge of the case, Yam Tat Wa, during the investigation discovers many doubts that Cheung Ka Fai deliberately created to mislead the police. Hound Vs. Mute When good actors meet, it is not just fate but also blessing for the audience. Fellow Best Actors Yam Tat Wa and Cheung Ka Fai met in the film NIGHTFALL as cop and crook. Cop Wa Jai conducts a thorough manhunt of murder suspect Cheung Ka Fai. Tracking Down Dangerous Person One chases, the other runs. Wa Jai in order to play the cop well in the battle of wits with the crook not only studied the script but also crammed dog books. They seemed to have no connection at all. Wa Jai explained, "Reading dog books can help an owner communicate with a dog. I understand dogs from reading these books and how it guesses the owner's state of mind." Actually Wa Jai turned the character into a hound looking for its prey. He continued, "I used this layer to observe a dangerous character's abnormal reaction, I want to bite down and not let go, and at the appropriate time attack the opponent." To deal with the hound, the suspect Cheung Ka Fai of course has to try leaving no trace at all. He said, "My character has a revenge plan, at the time he hopes to find out the truth." Cheung Ka Fai's role was a mute. In the entire film he relied on the eyes without any dialogue at all, a challenge to his acting. He said, "Luckily the director shot many scenes to account for the story. Offshoot characters would help too. Then my performance would be easier." - BEVERLY 6. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 17 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD LOVE IN THE BUFF: FULL OF FUN LAUGHTER After White Valentine's Day several romantic movies are released for the holiday. Among them director Pang Ho Cheung follows his Hong Kong and Mainland hit film LOVE IN A PUFF (JI MING YU CHUN GIU) with the sequel LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING). With original cast members Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Shawn Yue Man Wai, the film adds popular in the Mainland Mini Yang Mi and Xu Cheng's co-production factors, as well as stars cameo surprises from Dior Cheng Yi Kin and Huang Xiaoming to continue the previous film's humorous style and dialogues that tightly follow youth slang. While the film has people holding their bellies from laughing it also has a touching and delicate plot, among them six selected scenes thoroughly implement Pang Ho Cheung-style sense of humor. Release Date: March 29 Inevitable Confrontation Rivals are bound to meet. Chin Wa is sent to Beijing to be a store manager. On the streets she runs into old flame Yue Man Lok and his new girlfriend, Yang Mi. Yang Mi's invincible youth and bottomless cleavage have the ex Chin Wa fuming. For women's self-esteem, Chin Wa asked her co-workers for a comparison and. Her colleagues criticize her ruthlessly and even jokingly call her Mother, leaving middle aged woman Chin Wa in shame. Mobile Phone Love Message LOVE IN A PUFF had many scenes that people clearly relished, among them the mobile phone love messages between Yeung Chin Wa's Chun Giu and Yue Man Lok's Ji Ming like "n 55! W! (i miss u)" adequately reflect the present mobile phone culture and many viewers imitated the approach to express their thoughts. This time the film follows up, Yue Man Lok after breaking up with Chin Wa sends "n a^0l! (i love u)" to express his love. Conceivably after the film release it will very soon become the text message that everyone uses to express love. Star Camoes This time LOVE IN THE BUFF adds intensive joke and smart dialogue, as well as many star cameos. Huang Xiaoming's appearance is one of the film's big selling point. In the story Chin Wa went on a match making date with a female friend. The matchmaker claimed the date would look just like the star Huang Xiaoming. As everyone thought it was an exaggeration, Huang Xiaoming who played a shy guy really appeared, stunning and thrilling the audience. Indecent Assault Of Flight Attendant Smart jokes follow one after another. Yue Man Lok and his colleague were sent to work in Beijing. They discussed indecent assault of flight attendants on the flight being the passenger's right because the first offense would result in a warning, the second offense would require a witness and only on the third offense would the flight attendant be able to notify the pilot for the police. After they were all riled up, flight attendant Yang Mi suffered indecent assault from the passenger behind them. When the passenger was taken away, he broke out, "You said only the third offense would lead to an arrest!" He was revealed as having been eavesdropping on Yue Man Lok's conversation. Goddess Returns Pang Ho Cheung in the end gave away hilarious clips, BUFF not only had the red hot in the 90s Ekin Cheng to help out, but in the end inserted the pristine goddess of the age Linda Wong Hing Ping's retirement remarks. The most hilarious though was Director Pang actually remade Wong Hing Ping's masterpiece DO NOT ASK ME WHO music video. The costumes and the scenes were exactly like the original version. However the lead went from Wong Hing Ping to Yue Man Lok. This stroke of genius will make the audience laugh to tears. Ekin Old Dish BUFF star cameo surprises follow one after another. When Chin Wa and Yue Man Lok talked about their past relationships, she revealed that she had a romance of then top star Ekin Cheng. Yue Man Lok naturally did not believe her. Later Yue who worked in advertising worked with Ekin Cheng and figured he would just ask. He discovered that it was real. Ekin's song "Earth Moving Heaven Shocking Love" was even their love song. The best part was when they ate they went for the same piece of vegetable, Ekin who had no idea said, "Sorry, I had your vegetable". LOVE LIFTING: SOLID AND PLEASING Release Date: March 22 The combination of Chapman To Man Jat and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam is more than fresh but less than attractive; yet acting wise their performance was surprisingly solid. To Man Jat abandoned his exaggerated comedy style expression methods. Kong Yeuk Lam also no longer deliberately played pretty. They did their part and played their roles. Conveying Inspirational Messages The story is about the weightlifter Kong Yeuk Lam who after retirement due to diabetes came to Hong Kong and met To Man Jat. They supported each other in hard times, got married and had a child. To Man Jat realized that the weightlifting fire ws still burning in his wife's heart and encouraged Kong Yeuk Lam to come back and fight for her dream. Director Herman Yau Lai To's storytelling method was comfortable to watch, with all the romance the film was not short of inspirational messages. THE SECOND WOMAN IS POIGNANT AND SUSPENSEFUL Release Date: March 22 Yes Shawn Yue Man Lok is the lead actor again, but the actress has changed to Shu Qi. People wonder if the circle is already out of available young actors, or maybe Lok Jai is the first choice for romantic films. In any case, his performances in the film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) is no match of Ji Ming in LOVE IN THE BUFF. In the latter he got to be himself again and interpret the character as a modern person, naturally it was easy. Shu Qi Played Two Roles The story with the Shu Qi played twin sisters and a dead or alive story created a mysterious atmosphere and told the troubles of a man caught between the two women. Director Carol Lai Miu Shuet's use a poignant ghost story for romance was quite attractive. - HO WING NING [ In Production Now/Soon ] TRIAD Can : Jat Jik Lit : Promotion Irene Wan Bik Han, William Chan Wai Lam, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Patrick Tam Yiu Man [ THE FILM CATALOGUE ] College-educated Harvard decides to become a gangster. Not every love story is a fairy tale. After a dramatic wedding feast, unusual love stories unfold towards unexpected endings: a brother and sister in love caught by the mother, a married painter falls for his young life drawing model of same sex, an intimacy between a dance school teacher and his wealthy but senior student, a lesbian couple of which one has role-play paranoid, a dreadful love triangle ending with the girl being beheaded… "Love Actually…Sucks!" celebrates love that no one care but real, for life is love, love as it is. [ PHILADELPHIA QFEST ] Taking inspiration from six different court cases involving crimes of the heart, Scud examines the intense, often self-destructive sexual longings among several well-to-do young Hong Kong residents – gay, lesbian and straight. The film opens with the most scandalous wedding reception ever put on film: a young couple’s marriage ends (in the most dramatic fashion) before it begins. There is the 30-ish married gym instructor who trolls the active bathroom scene for young flesh; a lesbian couple with roleplay issues; a dance instructor who becomes the object of attraction to his much older student; a married painter who falls for his male model; a brother and sister who take family togetherness a bit too literally; and a young man who becomes increasingly deranged until he takes his love interest problems into his own hands. In Scud’s world, every love story is a fairy tale – but here the stories are sexual and troubling. Overall, a complex, sensual and compelling film. Ever since Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sang “It’s a Fine Romance” in 1936’s Swing Time, movies have been bowing down to the power of love. Unfortunately, Hollywood just doesn’t make romantic comedies the way they used to and these days if you’re looking for love in an American movie, you’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Thank Aphrodite for Korea. Ever since My Sassy Girl broke box office records in 2001, the Korean film industry has been making some of the funniest, most outrageously swoony movie romances, and for this series we’ve picked three of the best. Tuesday, APRIL 10, 2012 @ 7pm PETTY ROMANCE (2010, 118 minutes) A word-of-mouth hit in 2010, this romance is set in the world of manhwa (Korean comic books), and the couple at the center of the story have chemistry to burn. TV star Lee Seon-Gyun is a struggling manhwa artist who enters a competition with a massive cash prize. To raise his chances of winning, he hires a sex advice columnist, Choi Gang-Heui (star of the breakout hit, My Scary Girl), to write his erotic comic. Little does he know that she plagiarized her column from the Kama Sutra and the Kinsey Report because her ideas about sex are a bit…vague, to put it kindly. PETTY ROMANCE been winning hearts and minds on the film festival circuit for a year and it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 @ 7pm MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT (2009, 112 minutes) Opening at number one, and staying in the box office top ten for nine straight weeks, MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT is the Korean version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Kim Ha-Neul gets dumped by her boyfriend, Kang Ji-Hwan, because she’s never around. Actually, she’s a spy. Three years later, he runs into her again, only now he’s also joined the intelligence service too, albeit in a different department. Now they both have undercover identities they both have to keep hidden and they’ve got secret missions they both have to fulfill, while working out the trauma of their past relationship. Full of high-speed chases and plenty of glossy gunplay, it’s easy to see why a movie this fast on its feet is already slated for a Bollywood remake. --- [ WHAT IS YOUR CHAFFING EDITOR LISTENING TO ] BRIDGE BURNING Foo Fighters http://youtu.be/-ZFMTjQ7Xi0 ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com http://hktopten.orgfree.com | http://hktopten.blogspot.com
