The event not only has sent out "invitations" to Best Actor and Best Actress nominees like Ge You, Jiang Wen, Gao Yuanyuan and Zhou Xun but also has confirmed the host line up. Because this year Hong Kong Film Award's theme is young and new power, the hosts are also targeted as such as new power director Ronald Cheng Chung Kei (IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE (SUM SEUNG SI SING), new power producer Lam Ka Tung (GALLANTS (DA LUI TOI)), new power boss Tsang Bo Yi (THE KILLER WHO DOES NOT KILL (SAT SAU AU YEUNG POON JOI)) and new power actress Angelababy. All four are humorous and talkative, along with "veteran" Hong Kong Film Award host Eric Tsang Chi Tan they make this year's Hong Kong Film Award very attractive! In addition, this year TVB will broadcast the Hong Kong Film Award. Reportedly TVB is in negotiation for a live broadcast. To avoid the beyond recognition edits of past years, during the television commercial breaks, hosts and guest performers will form "stand up comedy troupes" and volunteer to entertain the audience! The Hong Kong Film Award said about the hosts and TVB broadcast, "Right now everything is still in its initial stages and has not been confirmed yet, so we are not at liberty to respond." * (2012/03/14) Martial art stars Vincent Zhao Wenzhou and Donnie Yen Chi Tan earlier were swept into the film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY)'s gossips. Yesterday they both "opened fire" online. Zhao Wenzhou angrily posted, "I heard recently that if I tell the truth someone will blacklist me, then I have to invite the person who wants to blacklist me to bravely stand up!" He even posted a photo of a volcanic eruption. Yen Chi Tan also posted that although the Year of the Dragon has been lucky, people should still watch out for petty people. "Beware of petty people suddenly getting in the way with hidden murderous intent!" * (2012/03/14) The Shawn Yue Man Lok, Shu Qi starred film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) two nights ago held a premiere. The leads in the film had passionate bed scenes. Shu Qi even revealed that she had to seduce Lok Jai. Aside from the leads, producer Gordon Chan Ka Seung, and director Carol Lai Miu Shuet, other artists like Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Rose Chan Ka Wun, Kam Kwok Leung, Paco Wong were in attendance. The host asked the leads about memories from the production. Shu Qi pointed out that the passion scenes with Lok Jai were the most unforgettable. After the shoot the director was panting and flushed. Lok Jai grabbed the microphone and imitate the director's breathing mischievously. Later Shu Qi thought it was cute because the passion scene in the script was written in detail. After the shoot and the director yelled cut, she asked the director Lai Miu Shuet whether the take was good but she saw her panting and flushed. Shu Qi also said, "I asked the director if I needed to take more off, the director said I didn't need to." Shu Qi admitted that the scene needed a little more teasing than just kissing. Was she satisfied? She joked, "This is a very conservative scene, very conservative passion scene, I don't know why the director panted so loudly." As for Yue Man Lok he complained that his co-star colored her hair and dressed up after the film was completed, as he praised Shu Qi's look was just like Beyonce's. Speaking of their passion scene, Lok Jai said that he and the co-star did not feel awkward, only the director felt awkward. He said, "Maybe she never thought that we would go so far." Did he like girls who were so wild, Lok Jai said, "During the shoot I was fond of her, getting into character was normal. Liking this type of girl isn't hard either." * (2012/03/14) The Deanie Ip Tak Han and Andy Lau Tak Wa starred film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) two nights ago held a charity special screening in Tai Koo and Causeway Bay. The Tai Koo UA special charity show raised fund for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation. Sister Deanie was very friendly when she arrived, as she did not turn down picture requests from any guest. However Foundation ambassador Bernice Liu Bik Yi was late and made the Venice Best Actress wait. Sister Deanie urged women to have scheduled breast cancer screening. If any of her friend unfortunately had breast cancer, Sister Deanie admitted that she would encourage her. A regular cold was already bad enough, not to mention life and death. Thus she would be more willing to listen. In the film Sister Deanie played a maid Sister Peach. She said that being able to take care of others was fortunate, but being taken care of was not a bad thing either because you could appreciate others' care. However she still preferred to take care of others more. Just completing the Malaysia promotion and returning to Hong Kong, Sister Deanie was elated about its box office success. "That's good! Thank you Hong Kong viewers. Actually I am very touched. At first I was very afraid that Wa Jai would lose money. Such a righteous movie is so popular, proving that Hong Kong people have brains." Two nights ago Wa Jai did not appear, but tomorrow they will celebrate and Wa Jai should attend. Was Wa Jai's wife close to the expectant date? Sister Deanie said that she was not sure and worried about Wa Jai's scolding. If he liked to talk about it he would. Meanwhile, the Causeway Bay special charity show proceeds were donated to the Banyan Elderly Services Association. Director Ann Hui On Wa said that that elderly center earlier introduced many Ma Jeh to them for research, thus when Wa Jai learned that they were raising fund he offered to loan the film. As for the film success, Ann said, "It's good to have so many viewers." She was not worried that the numerous charity special screenings would affect the box office. Would the commercial and critical success of the film push her to make more movies about seniors? She said that it would not, but she admitted that good box office made finding investors easier. Currently she was planning a dramatic film. * (2012/03/14) Landy Wen Lan and Malaysian singer Andrew Tan (Chen Sai On) starred film 3X TROUBLE (HUNG X DAP CHOR) earlier held a Taipei press conference. After her hit film WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE, Wen Lan was invited to her first lead actress role in Malaysia. This time Wen Lan made many breakthroughs with her new film, like playing a corpse and playing twins for the first time. She even had a lot of intimate physical contact with killer Chen Sai On. Wen Lan and Chen Sai On gave their first time to their new film. The first scene after Wen Lan and Chen Sai On who was making his first film met was a brutal murder scene. Chen Sai On said that it was truly hard to be violent against the petite and sexy Wen Lan. For realism he had to really strangle her neck and pick her up in the air. This scene took several hours and left a lot of bruises on Wen Lan's neck. In order to create the film's corpse prop, Wen Lan had to be covered with professional prop material and maintained her gesture before the death with any variation. It had to be done over two or three times and took eight hours. Chen Sai On praised Wen Lan as not only a substance singer but also a very professional actress. Speaking of the different experience between 3XTROUBLE and the earlier SEEDIQ BALE, Wen Lan said that Malaysia's unique local culture was very memorable. She said basically the set was like United Nations, often many different languages like Malay, Cantonese, English and Mandarin were mixed up. Has her boyfriend seen the film? Wen Lan said, "He probably would want to kill Chen Sai On!" Would Chen Sai On like girls like Wen Lan? He said that he could not resist "diva type" girls, unfortunately Wen Lan was already taken. * (2012/03/14) Mr., Alex Lam Tak Shun, Michelle Wai (Si Nga) and Jeana Ho Pui Yu two nights ago promoted their film LIVES IN FLAMES (HEI SAI YIU GWUN). Jeana revealed that she liked Lam Tak Shun very much because he was very cute and shy. Jeana in the film played Dash@Mr.'s girlfriend and would be thoroughly sexy. She admitted that in real life she had experience that was similar to the character's, breaking up with her boyfriend over money. Thus during the crying scene she did not need any eye drop and could act with real tears. She also revealed that she is studying dancing and singing with La Ying@Bro5. Si Nga in the film stole Alan@Mr.'s first on screen kiss. She joked that she forgot to give him laisee and revealed that Alan had to hypnotize himself to have the guts for the kiss scene. As for Kary Ng Yu Fei's rumored boyfriend Lam Tak Shun, he said that he did not receive any special treatment as he did not have any intimate scene in the film. * (2012/03/13) In the recently popular online "joy seeking" novel DONGGUAN WOOD (DONGGUAN DIK SUM LUM), the writer Heung Sai Chuen Seung Chung Shu played tour guide to Dongguan massage parlors in search of fun. Heung Sai with his sharp writing brought life to the passionate process of bedding masseuses. Otakus fought to read the novel. 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY (3D YUK PO TUEN ji GIK LOK BO GAM) screenwriter Mark Wu Yiu Fai next month will adapt the DONGGUAN WOOD story for the silver screen. He intended on the bony four eyed Lok Wing to play Heung Sai and bring the audience north to search for joy through 3D glasses. Famous Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami (Cheung Seung Chun Shu)'s NORWEGIAN WOOD is well known. Fame naturally brought counterfeit. A local online writer named Heung Sai Cheung Seung Chun Shu began posting the erotic novel DONGGUAN WOODS on the Golden Forum. He used Haruki Muramaki's writing style to describe his dirty massage trip in Dongguan and created an absurd comedy, which went viral online. Heung Sai became an overnight sensation. Two months ago he even published a book ALL ROADS POINT WEST, which was sold out several times. 3D erotic film 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY director Christopher Sun Lap Kei and screenwriter Mark Wu Yiu fai's inspiration erupted like hot springs after reading DONGGUAN WOOD and decided to turn the hot original into a film next month. Mark this time will write, direct and star while Sun Lap Kei will produce. Recently they have been in intense preparation. The film will cost 8 to 10 million and be released during the National Day golden week, so Mainland tourists will be able to come to Hong Kong and watch the film. The film will be faithful to the original work. In it a Hong Kong man after a heartbreak felt empty and went north alone to Dongguan in search of joy. During the trip he was intimate with a prostitute several times. Reportedly a possible lead actor would be the new father and Fama member Lok Wing. As for his old flame and prostitute Xiaosi, they will be targeting pseudo models like 33D Jeana Ho Pui Yu, 34E Dada Chen Jing and 33C ma model Mia Chen Jing Yi. Even the Taiwan 30G Asian bust goddess Cherry Wang (Wong Hau Chun) will be in the running. Mark said, "That's right, the movie is being induced right now. I have always been very interested in making a movie like AMERICAN PIE. Last year I read Heung Sai's work on the forum and immediately began planning. My script will try to be as faithful to the original work as possible, I hope to express its soul through film." Has he bought the rights to the book? Mark said, "We spent almost seven figures to buy its rights." Have Lok Wing, Jeana and Mia being locked up? Mark said, "Very honestly, we have contacted Lok Wing for the male lead. We even want to get Mr. C to be his friend. The film has four female leads, Jeana, DaDa, Mia and Hau Hau are are in negotiation. We are leaning toward Jeana." Mark last year also guest starred in 3D SEX AND ZEN. This time he will also play a role for fun. As a gimmick, Mark is persuading the mysterious writer Heung Sai to guest star. Mark said, "Due to work, Heung Sai wants to keep his identity secret so later he will be able to write even more daringly. We are persuading him to perform, but won't say what character he will play to test the audience." Although the original took place in a Dongguan massage parlor, due to censorship standards for the film to shoot up north would be absolutely impossible. Mark said, "We will shoot on location in Hong Kong and Macau and even add in special effects. This film will have a 3D version and both rich and poor viewers will be able to attend." Jeana said, "Everything is waiting for the manager's arrangement." Would she perform topless? She said, "It will depend on the character and the cast, if it's fun I wouldn't mind." * (2012/03/13) Chapman To Man Jat, Dada Chen Jing, and Hiro Hayama (Yip San Ho) starred film VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET) has become one of the Hong Kong International Film Festival film premieres. Yesterday they attended the film festival poster unveiling ceremony. As a comedy actor, Ah Jat did not mind his work being called vulgar. He even pointed out that this time VULGARIA is a local category III film that is tailored for the Hong Kong market. Ah Jat revealed that years ago when a film was sent for Mainland inspection, it received as a comment that it was vulgar. Thus he and director Pang Ho Cheung decided to make a vulgar comedy. In this film, Ah Jat played a film producer. Chen Jing played an ambitious actress who risked being with the boss for performance opportunities. Dada admitted that she not only was alternatively sexy but also had a "car rocking" scene with Ah Jat. Hiro Hayama played himself, a category III star. Did he have any nude scene? He said, "I only took it because I didn't have any." Ah Jat joked, "Hiro Hayama has shown enough, let me!" Two days ago was the 1 year anniversary of the Japan March 11 earthquake and tsunami. As a Japanese Hiro Hayama recently raised donations for his compatriots and also made a donation of his own to mainly purchase medicine to fight radiation. Later he will return to Japan to visit his wife and child. * (2012/03/13) According to Mainland reports, the film YANG GUIFEI has replaced the resigning Kwak Jae-Yong with Tian Zhuangzhuang as his name was on the production notice as the director. Yesterday Ms Zhang from the promotional department of one of the film investors said, "The media information isn't too accurate. Overall we will officially make the official director this week." According to Korean media reports, the resigned director Kwak Jae-Yong said that he left because he could not tolerate the script being changed. One of YANG GUIFEI's original cast members On Ju-Wan also confirmed that the production has removed her character. Reportedly Fan Bingbing's request for additional screen time and John Lone's tardiness drove away Kwak Jae-Yong. One of the investors issued a statement that the real reason that both sides "parted ways" was a different of production style. "Director Kwak Jae-Yong did not shoot according to the film style and tone as stated in the contract. In pursuit of personal expression, he on numerous occasions turned down the release company and cinematography, lighting, art and action directors' reasonable requests and suggestions and deviated from Chinese audience's traditional value and the intuitive understanding of the Tang Dynasty." In addition, the statement also denied that Fan Bingbing demanded additional screen time and the Fan Bingbing workship's investment participation rumor. At the same time Kwak Jae-Yong also said to the Korean media that his resignation from YANG GUIFEI was not due to any conflict with Fan Bingbing. "The cast cooperated with the director very well and followed the commands." He said, the reason was he could not tolerate the script being changed countless times. "Because investors were from China and Japan, both sides kept changing the script and changed it beyond recognition. With this script now, I can no longer make the movie." * (2012/03/12) Popular Taiwan idol Ko Chen-Tung and Angelababy will work together for the first time on the Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung) new romantic film. Yesterday, Ko Chen-Tung secretly came to Hong Kong for pre production work. Only a few lucky fans ran into their idols at the airport and could not be more pleased. Taiwan hunk Ko Chen-Tung and Angelababy lately have become new film industry favorites. Ko Chen-Tung last year won the Golden Horse Award Best New Actor. Many directors have made offers to him. Baby has long been a rising film star, making film after film. Two popular actors will work together for the first time on the Fok Yiu leung directed new film JING CHUP MUK YU (DETECTIVE SWEET WORDS), a romantic film that will consist of three stories. Ko Chen-Tung and Baby will star in one of the story and be in a love triangle with Bosco Wong Chung Chak who will play Baby's superior! In another story "the Strongest of the Universe" Donnie Yen Chi Tan will be paired with Taiwan otaku godden Michelle Chen. * (2012/03/12) Shu Qi and Shawn Yue Man Lok yesterday promoted their film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) in Tsuen Wan. Because Shu Qi played twins in the film, the event arranged for two pairs of twins to play games. Shu Qi said that her father and uncle were twins, thus she had a chance to have twins. Actually she would be rather happy to have two at once. As for when, Shu Qi said that she wanted to pass the plan to her younger brother as she would have to wait until she was with someone. When rumored boyfriend Wang Leehom was mentioned, Shu Qi said, "This is ancient history, you ask and ask again, spread and spread again, I am bothered even if you are not. (Didn't you go on vacation together?) No, next question." She mentioned online earlier that she was upset at her film LOVE being pirated, Shu Qi explained that only because she saw people watching the DVD on their computers she mentioned the advantages of going to the movies. It was not a big deal that it turned out to be. Shu Qi said, "I am not upset, of course after working hard on a movie I want it to do well at the box office." Lok Jai's other film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) will be released at the same time. Was he worried about competing with himself? Lok Jai joked that he was so busy with promotions that he was dizzy, everyday he had no idea even about where he was. * (2012/03/12) Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam and director Herman Yau Lai To yesterday attended a forum with their film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) advanced screening viewers. The film opened earlier in the Mainland, but Elanne did not see the film because To Man Jat asked her to wait and watch at the Hong Kong premiere together. Even though she did not see the film yet, she had the director on hand and were still able to share production highlight with the audience. The film is released now, half a year after its completion, and ran into strong competition from A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). Elaine said, "That's good too. They are doing great at the box office, Hong Kong films are films that need love, hopefully everyone will spread the word. After our film's Mainland release, everyday many posted on Ah Jat's and my microblog to say it was so touching that they cried from watching it." Elaine also said that viewers at the Mainland premiere were teary eyed. A woman said that she normally did not treat her husband too well, after watching the movie she wanted to treat him better as she learned to cherish those in front of her. This time she gained weight to play the weightlifter and was injured as well, would she like to win an award for her enormous sacrifices? She said about her first heart warming film, "I only hope that viewers would be moved to tears." * (2012/03/12) The film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) two nights ago held its Mongkok premiere. Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Janice Man Wing Shan, Kay Tse On Kay, Candy Yu On On, Michael Wong Man Tak all attended. Everyone coordinated with the film and performed a gun firing ceremony. Earlier the film received great responses from numerous Mainland screenings. Was Ka Fai confident about its Hong Kong box office? He said that he would be nervous before the film release and hoped for more and more at the box office. Ka Fai this time had no line at all. Was it great not to have to remember any line? Ka Fai said, "On a certain level it's good, but because of that I had to express emotions through expressions and body language. I needed to spend even more time and effort to cultivate my emotions. The feeling is like I am making a silent film." Tse On Kay said that she was afraid of Ka Fai because he often hid in a corner to cultivate emotions. Later she realized that Ka Fai actually knew how to laugh. In addition, Yu On On earlier was rumored to be dating a younger man. Two nights ago she said that he was her co-star in the play BOUNDLESS MOVEMENT (PIN DEI FONG FEI), Ling Man Lung. Because in the play they played mother and son, they got along so well during their performance that she treated him like a "son" just like she treated Janice Man like a daughter. She said that Ling Man Lung was somewhat upset because he was not used to being reported and stated that he was not pursuing her. She too would not date anyone around his daughter's age and joked that she was prepared to introduce girls to Ling Man Lung. Would she introduce Janice Man? Janice Man immediately declined, claiming that she was a traditional person and "siblings" could not possibly date. After the premiere the group attended an after party. Ka Fai was in great spirit. He not only thanked everyone for their support but also asked them what they thought about the movie. Janice Man was teary eyed from Ka Fai's performance. That night her mother also came in support of her. Tse On Kay, whose birthday will be on March 13, had to rush to an advanced birthday party that her friends were holding for her. She only chatted with Ka Fai for awhile before leaving. When Ka Fai left the party loyal fans presented him with gifts to wish for box office success for his film. Ka Fai chatted with fans and posed for photos, finally leaving early in the morning. * (2012/03/12) Winning multiple international awards, the film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) since its March 8 release has performed ideally at the box office. Its opening box office was 3.1 million. As for noon yesterday it accumulated 6.2 million. Wa Jai and Deanie Ip Tak Han were still busy with the film promotion. Lau Tak Wa even turned the film's production process into a new book titled MY 30 WORK DAYS: A SIMPLE LIFE PRODUCTION DIARY. Two days ago Wa Jai attended a book signing in Taiwan. When the news of Wa Jai's Taiwan visit went out, Wa Jai fans immediately rushed to buy the new book and the publisher had to print another edition in an emergency. Since last Tuesday's advanced sales to its official release, another edition was needed in ten short days. The book signing was originally slated for 300 fans, but due to the overwhelming advanced sales the number increased in the last minute to 500 fans. Lau Tak Wa said that he has always had a dream to direct, he has already prepared a script. Wa Jai pointed out that when he joined the television actor training class he originally wanted to study screen writing and directing, but under the instructor's encouragement he stumbled his way into becoming an actor. However his dream to direct remained in his heart. He pointed out that a year ago he originally wanted to make his film but he ran into Ann Hui On Wa, so he made A SIMPLE LIFE. He also said that Taiwan film development was thriving. After seeing Doze Niu Chen-Zer and Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun)'s work as directors he thought they were amazing. He too had to work hard on catching up. * (2012/03/12) Yesterday, Hong Kong director Pang Ho Cheung brought the flavorful romantic comedy LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) to Shenzhen and held an advanced screening. After the show lead actor Shawn Yue Man Lok arrived in support and admitted that he liked Mini Yang Mi's flight attendant look in the film very much. The kiss scene with Beijing girl Yang Mi even made him feel bashful. However, Miriam Yeung Chin Wa revealed earlier, "During the intimate scene, the director in order to demonstrate to Yang Mi even personally performed an ambiguous show with Yue Man Lok. The passion was endless." The "internet slang" dialogue in LOVE IN THE BUFF was very viewer friendly. The ordinary film content even due to "Pang's heavy ingredient" additions was uniquely savory. Yang Mi in the film played a post 90 flight attendant who not only had a busty hot pant performance but also an intellectual uniform look. The four characters in the film represented four types of people in the romantic world. Speaking of working with Yang Mi, Yue Man Lok had nothing but praise. "Yang Mi's character has natural requirements, she has to meet those conditions to be able to play it. Yang Mi's figure is great, her acting also adds color and brings life to this character." Why would Chi Ming be attracted to Youyou? Yue Man Lok joked, "Youyou in the film is the opposite of Chun Giu. Her figure is great, she is younger than Chun Giu, these conditions would easily attract Cheung Chi Ming to her." In the film, Pang Ho Cheung's romantic mottoes were endless. "You have to be mentally ready when you hang out, either you run into him or he runs into you"; "Life is so long, you are bound to fall for several scumbags"; "Some things don't need to be finished in one night. Some thing won't happen again if you miss it tonight" and others all contain wisdom but are also viewer friendly. Pang Ho Cheung has put this type of "art comes from life yet is higher than life" creative ideas in their original flavors into the film. * (2012/03/11) Jackie Chan's latest action film CHINESE ZODIAC (SUP YI SUN CHIU) will open this holiday season and complete production in May. Currently only the 4 minute long climax has not been shot yet. Jackie Chan said that this 4 minute long scene might take two months to finish and will shoot in Hong Kong and other locations. It will have a very dangerous stunt, even more dangerous than Tom Cruise's Burj Khalifa jump in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE GHOST PROTOCOL. He revealed that at first he thought of shooting at Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but changed his mind when he remembered that the audience might misunderstand that he was imitating Tom Cruise. Jackie Chan asked reporters if they thought Tom Cruise would really jump the tower? In his past experience the insurance company absolutely would not permit him to jump; back then he too wanted to jump the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France but the insurance company prohibited him from doing so. Jackie Chan guaranteed in CHINESE ZODIAC he personally performed all the stunts. In the past he was able to jump two stories but now he was able to jump only half a floor, at least he did it himself. In comparison to many Hollywood stars, they could not jump even half a floor. Earlier Jackie Chan attended an event to promote a Chinese wine that was named after him. Karen Mok Man Wai, Li Bingbing and Coco Lee Man came in support; Jackie Chan praised Li Bingbing's tolerance. Jackie Chan revealed that when they made 1911, he and Li Bingbing had an emotional scene. Before the shoot she drank half a bottle of red wine and a bottle of Baiju before they were able to overcome their mental block and achieved battlefield romance. * (2012/03/11) A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEN) opened in the Mainland on March 8 and made a mad 16 million yuan at the box office. The film followed tightly with openings in Taiwan and Hong Kong two days ago. Hong Kong's box office two days ago already approached 1.9 million, the best performer among films of the same week; as for Taiwan, after half a day it already made NT$3.5 million. Leads Deanie Ip Tak Han and Andy Lau Tak Wa two days ago went their separate ways, as Ip Tak Han and director Ann Hui On Wa attended the Hong Kong Film Festival in Malaysia. "Malaysia Son in Law" Lau Tak Wa perhaps in order to avoid being asked about his family chose to promote in Taipei on the same day and held an autograph session for his new book MY 30 WORKING DAYS: A SIMPLE LIFE PRODUCTION DIARY. Lau Tak Wa's A SIMPLE LIFE Taiwan promotion worked, as on the first half of its opening day it made NT$3.5 million. Yesterday he attended a book autograph session, over 500 fans came in support. He said, "When I turn 80 I want to make an idol series, to be an idol who never ages!" Fans responded enthusiastically. When asked whether he was willing to marry his female fans as wives? Lau Tak Wa joked, "Would that violate laws against polygamy?" He also joked, "I am too old, physically I can't." Promoting in Malaysia, Ip Tak Han was reluctant to talk much about Lau Tak Wa's impending fatherhood. "Wa Jai doesn't want to promote the film with good news". However, Ip Tak Han was willing to reveal something from her life with Lau Tak Wa. "We talk about everything, we especially like to study renovation. We would enthusiastically discuss what kind of paint and material to use, then we would discuss what to eat." In the film Sister Peach due to a stroke had to reside in a senior home. Ip Tak Han felt that back then too many seniors resigned to their fate, unlike current seniors who knew how to plan for themselves. "In the future when I get old I will insist against living in a senior home, because I absolutely can't accept sharing a room with someone. I love to control my own time, I hope to be able to do what I want to do. If one day I can't take care of my own hygiene, I would choose euthanasia. Someone without dignity doesn't work! I may not be able to choose when I was born, but I can choose when I die! Haha, aren't I scary?" A SIMPLE LIFE is another summit in Ip Tak Han's career. She felt that in the future she will not have another peak because few can daringly invest in drama like Lau Tak Wa. At her age, she will not be able to attract film companies either. Reportedly director Hui On Wa was interested in a prequel. Ip Tak ha joked, "I worry that due to wrinkles I can't make it!" * (2012/03/11) Aaron Kwok Fu Sing and Mainland actress Jiang Yiyan earlier went to Malaysia to work on the Oxide Pang Shun directed new film THE DETECTIVE III (A+ JING TAM). The team shot on location on a budget airline's plane. In his sloppy costume Sing Sing had his left hand in bandage and looked just like he did in two previous films. After Sing Sing boarded the plane, the team, flight attendants and extras enthusiastically welcomed him with applause. Sing Sing who was used to First Class or Business Class seats was very curious about the budget airline designs, which he studied as his limbs flailed around like a big kid. * (SPOILER 2012/03/11) Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam and Chapman To Man Jat lately have been promoting their new film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) in Zhanjiang, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. While in Zhanjiang, they did not forget to enjoy the local delicacy as they were invited to an elegant restaurant for seafood and red wine. Because Ah Jat was a vegetarian, Elanne took care of most of the seafood. Yet afterward she felt very guilty. Because earlier she gained weight for the film, now she returned to form without her share of difficulty she truly was very afraid that she would gain weight again. At an audience meeting, a viewer praised Ah Jat's final scene was very shocking and touching. Elanne joked, "It's good that To Man Jat dies!" and made everyone laugh. As for Elanne's weightlifting athlete, was she worried that the character would affect her pretty image? She said, "I have made several movies, I feel this is my prettiest one." When they were in Shenzhen their on screen son also appeared and loudly called them Papa and Mama, which touched Elanne so much that she felt like she saw her own son again. The love in the film touched a viewer so much that he immediately made his feeling known to the object of his affection, which made Ah Jat and Elanne matchmakers instantly. * (2012/03/11) Rose Chan Ka Wun and Dennis To Yu-Hang yesterday visited a senior home in Wong Tai Sin. Chan Ka Wun and To Yu-Hang said that later they will work on IP MAN JUNG GIK PIN (IP MAN THE FINAL CHAPTER) in the Mainland. The story will be the story of Ip Man in his old age in Hong Kong. The 60's Hong Kong set has already begun construction to bring back Hong Kong of old, but they did not know who will play Ip Man. * (2012/03/10) The Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) earlier due to a dispute with Vincent Zhao Wenzhou finally went their separate ways. Yesterday Chi Tan scouted location for the major fight between Zhang Hanyu and Jing Tian with the director of photographer Peter Pau Tak Fun and car stunt coordinator Bruce Law Lai Yin. To avoid detection, Chi Tan wore a guard cap and sunglasses. Due to rain, the crew held umbrellas for Lord Tan, Pau Tak Fun and others. They even went on the building roof to look around with binoculars. * (2012/03/10) The film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) two nights ago held a charity premiere. Aside from director Ann Hui On Wa, leads Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Felix Wong Yat Wa, Chik Mei Chun, Kent Cheng Juk Si and others appeared. During the period, Wa Jai received three local banks' commemorative currency from the sponsor with the number 00927 -- Wa Jai's September 17th birthday date. Two nights ago was the March 8 Women's Day, Sister Deanie revealed that before the premiere she had marzipan to celebrate. As for Wa Jai, he said that since he was not a woman he did not need to celebrate. What about his wife? He said that she did not either. His pregnant wife has been caught on camera frequently. She also had two bodyguards with her. Wa Jai only said, "Thank you everything, our lives are great. (Are you angry?) No problem. (Will the bodyguards protect you?) Our lives are great. thank you thank you." Speaking of his wife switching doctors, Wa Jai immediately said that he did not want to discuss this subject. Since the film has officially been released, would he arrange for his wife to watch it? Wa Jai did not know how to answer and later joked that he has not thought so in depth. Would his wife support him? He awkwardly laughed and nodded. Should his wife watch comedy to remain cheerful? Wa Jai said, "You guys are great. (Are you afraid that it's too touching?) That isn't convenient yet!" At this time Sister Deanie changed the subject to save Wa Jai and said that yesterday she and Wa Jai promoted separately. Wa Jai went to Taiwan while she went to Malaysia. As for their future jobs, Sister Deanie said that she was waiting for Wong Jing. Wa Jai joked, "She has to work on SWEET SISTER PEACH MATURES 33D, I read it in the newspaper!" After laughing together, Sister Deanie said that she had to read the script first before considering. However she still has not received Wong Jing's call. How sexy will she be? Wa Jai joked that if it was artistic she could consider it. Sister Deanie mischievously said, "I feel I am very sexy! (Do you have 33D?) I don't know, maybe even more!" * (2012/03/10) The thriller romance THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) two days ago opened officially on March 8 Women's Day. Director Carol Lai Miu Shuet and actors Shu Qi, Shawn Yue Man Lok and Chen Shu attended the Shanghai press conference. The event even arranged for a cake to celebrate Chen Shu's birthday. In the film aside from the relationships between the Shu Qi played twin sisters and Yue Man Lok, the most attractive was the director's special addition of the "act within an act" element that was on display as a play. To Chen Shu who had dance and stage performance experience it was very easy, but to Yue Man Lok and Shu Qi the stress was enormous. Yue Man Lok even joked that he was reluctant to recall the scene. However their performance received the director's compliment. Yue Man Lok joked, "Under pressure I had to release it, otherwise I would truly collapse. So Shu Qi and I were very noisy on the set and fought everyday like crazy people." Shu Qi also said that the stage performance was the hardest, luckily they had Professor Chen Shu to teach them a few tricks. Shu Qi said, "Working with Professor Chen Shu was very comfortable, I really learned a lot." The ladies in the film did not "fight" for Yuem Na Lok for the beginning to the end. Shu Qi sometimes would ask Chen Shu for help. Chen Shu hoped that after Shu Qi's fans watched the film they would not hate her, because she actually is a good person. * (2012/03/10) Last night, Chapman TO Man Jat and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam personally promoted their film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) in Shenzhen. Director Herman Yau Lai To this time switched To Man Jat and Kong Yeuk Lam's gender roles, so To Man Jat became an "all purpose husband" who has fallen for love and family. Director Yau said that that he attempted this type of romantic film for the first time in hopes of calling out the "house husband" instinct that was hidden within men. This film also was a true story that deeply touched Director Yau. Meanwhile, a chubby Hong Kong fan came from Hong Kong and hoped to take the chance with the help of two stars to express his love to the girl he liked. Regrettably the girl turned him down. To Man Jat admitted that he like in the film was a "house husband" at home so he performed true to his nature. He said, "Because of my family, since fifth grade I began to cook. Now I can cook very well. As for cuisine, my wife and I are both vegetarians. However I truly can't forget a Yunnan restaurant in Xiangmihu, its food's too delicious." To Man Jat joked, "I am not good looking, but I treat my family very well. I take care of all the chores. With the old lady's steady income if we save here and there it's enough." Kong Yeuk Lam bashfully said that she too hoped to be able to run into a good men like To, who would treat her and her family well. Ordinary love was what she longed for the most. Playing the strong woman in the film, Kong Yeuk Lam cut her beloved long hair and even gained weight in a short time. Due to all the eating she felt nauseous. For the later weight loss, Kong Yeuk Lam said it was very easy. She revealed to the ladies that actually maintaining weight was controlling food combinations, reducing greasy food and not eating after 6PM. To Man Jat even said that he was someone without a dream and needed to follow the dreamer (the director). Under his old lady's "super economical person" management he had much less pressure. He said, now he only wants to be a good actor and has an open mind. However he would not bring any emotional color to complete the character's image in the script. As a producer, he said, "If I can help someone else, fulfill someone else's dream, I would." * (2012/03/09) The Emperor Motion Picture SIU SUT DIK JI DAN (VANISHED BULLET) starred Nicholas Tse Ting Fung, Lau Ching Wan and Mini Yang Mi and has been scheduled for a June release. However, SIU due to a similar title with fellow Emperor film LET THE BULLETS FLY. Director Law Chi Leung was asked whether he deliberately used BULLET in the title due to LET's shocking box office performance? He said, "I hope the new film box office will fly like a bullet, but right now the 'bullet vanishes'. I am afraid that people will be confused and decide to change its title. An announcement will be made very soon." Because during Siu Ting Fung was in the middle of his divorce, he praised Ting Fung for his professionalism. "He kept his emotions and work very separate, he wouldn't affect the progress." * (2012/03/09) The film LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) will be released simultaneously on March 29 in Hong Kong, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Singapore, Malaysia and Brunei also paid high prices for distribution rights. Because lead Miriam Yeung Chin Wa was pregnant, she was less than mobile. She regretted that unfortunately she was unable to promote in the U.S. Popular Mainland female star Mini Yang Mi took part. Her tenderness was a strong contrast with Chin Wa's strength. Shawn Yue Man Lok could not be luckier as he had a kiss scene with Yang Mi. He joked, "I fulfilled the director's wish. In the kiss scene I had to extend my tongue, which was very daring!" Pang Ho Cheung joked that Yue Man Lok did not know how to fight for it and lost to Harwick Lau Hoi wai, as he could not win over Yang Mi as his girlfriend in real life. * (2012/03/09) The Hong Kong International Film Festival Society yesterday announced that the Jiang Wen directed LET THE BULLETS FLY won the 6th Asian Film Award 2011 Highest Box Office Award. The film was the highest grossing Chinese film in history with 730 million yuan RMB in a month, second only to AVATAR as the second highest grossing film in the Mainland. The award will be presented on March 19 during the ceremony. * (2012/03/09) Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Ava Yu Hiu, Mandy Lieu and Mandy Wong Chi Man two nights ago worked on their new film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG) in Sha Tin. Chi Lam worked on an intimate scene. Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) who did not have any scene two nights ago visited with chocolate for everyone. Chilam said that the film is already 1/3 done but he was very resistant to work at night because of his lifestyle. He said that last year he mainly sang and his life was very orderly, but recently he has been working at night so he caught colds and flu and needed Chinese herbal medicine. He said, "Later I will have hugging and kissing scenes with Annie, I hope to recover soon and not to spread it to her." Annie said that she was not certain on passionate their intimate scenes would be. Was she afraid of upsetting Chilam's wife Anita Yuen Wing Yi? She said, "I probably won't. Len Len has visited the set too. I even played with Chilam's son Demon Child. As soon as he saw me he asked if I was married and that he would introduce guys to me. He's very funny." * (2012/03/09) NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) two nights ago held its global premiere in Beijing. Aside from the actors Nick Cheung Ka Fai, Simon Yam Tat Wa, Janice Man Wing Shan, Kay Tse On kay and Dou Xiao, Tang Wei even made a secret appearance and surprised everyone. The media asked Tang Wei to predict the box office. She said, "The box office? It'll definitely be on fire! So today I come for a first glimpse." Cheung Ka Fai described the film release as the perfect birth of a child. As for whether this child was pretty or not, everyone would have an answer after seeing the film. Actually, Tang Wei has known director Roy Chow Hin Yeung and screen writer To Chi Long for a long time. This premiere could be considered a reunion. Chow Hin Yeung was very pleased to see his old friend and praised Tang Wei as a "very natural, hard working and talented actress." Tang Wei recalled, "I would always remember the director could work so hard that he did not sleep or rest. I also remember very much how cute To Chi-Long looked in a pair of little red shoes." Cheung Ka Fai after over 20 years in film went from playing street kids to tough guys. His acting became more and more mature. In recent years he have played in police films numerous times. His tough guy image is well known. In his new film NIGHTFALL he again accepts a highly difficult challenge. Ka Fai even said that as someone who loved film he had no way to not act. Yet he could not say what clear cut goal he had. "In real life, I often would be confused about what kind of person I am. I would maintain an attitude of continuous pursuit and would not relax my fighting spirit and abilities. Yet why I am pursuing, I too am not too sure." He said that if he did not act he probably would not be able to keep living. He explained, "Because I really don't know how to do anything else. If I don't act, maybe it should be time to consider retirement!" * (2012/03/09) Irene Wan Bik Ha, William Chan Wai Ting, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Patrick Tam Yiu Man and others yesterday attended their new film JAT JIK (PROMOTION) production start ceremony. Irene said that in the film she will play the big sister of Wise Guys for the first time in the film. She revealed that she has been bad when she was young, but after getting into the business she ended this type of life. Luckily she did not take any misstep. Now she would take care of her adopted son so he would not turn bad. Chan Wai Ting and Si Nga again will play a couple after EX (CHIN DOH). They also will have bed scenes, but Si Nga revealed that since she did one before she was not afraid. She did not want to make this type of scenes too much, luckily the director was understanding and removed the rape scene. Chan Wai Ting in the film kept fighting and killing. He said that earlier the director even took him to dine with people in the mob to gain experience. He continued, "I will have tattoos all over, one of which will look like Si Nga. (Will he get a tattoo with your girlfriend Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin?) No! Now I regret getting a tattoo very much because it affects work a lot." He hoped that everyone would focus on his work and decided to talk like about her. * (2012/03/09) The Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam and Chapman To Man Jat starred new film LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) will be released at the end of the month. In the film Kong Yeuk Lam played a weightlifting athlete. Earlier Kong Yeuk Lam said that she reached 120 pounds for this character. Now she has already returned to her previous shape. How did she gain weight? She said, "At the time I ate everything and drank weight gaining powder. I almost wanted to vomit because I couldn't take the milk smell." Elanne in the film had to gain weight. Ah Jat instead had to lose 30 pounds. They joked that if they could switch then it would have been great. Elanne in the film had the challenge of lifting 30 kilograms and she had to lose weight. She admitted that at the time with the endless kneeling down and getting up to lift weight she was injured. However she had a lot of fun at the production. As for emotionally, because it was a tragic film and during the shoot she was fat and had short hair she seemed to have changed completely. At the time she did not dare to go out and look at the mirror. Was this movie the toughest of her career? Elanne admitted that she had stress but the character was not easy to play due to the ending. Ah Jat in one scene was crushed over a car. Because she was a weightlifter she kept trying to lift the car to save him, but he had to hold back his tears. He said, "When I made a series with Tse Shuet Sum, in another life and death scene Sister Sum had to play dead. I couldn't hold back my tears. Finally it had to be shot again. Since then, in order to keep from affecting the shoot and co-stars I would try to hold back my tears." * (2012/03/08) Stephen Chow Sing Chi has always been "flammable". After Eva Huang Shengyi and Kitty Zhang Yuqi, veteran artist Leung Siu Lung after signing with Lord Sing also ended up in a dispute! Leung Siu Lung charged Lord Sing for "seasonal price" commission, "losing contract" and other accusations, but Lord Sing's company Star Overseas denied the matter. Leung Siu Lung said, "Back then he personally called me to sign with him. I hesitated at first, but seeing how sincere he was and how he offered to negotiate with foreign companies for me I finally agreed and signed for three years. Who knew that the company commission rate was like 'seasonal prices', which really was excessive! I dined with his company's executive in hopes of seeing the contract, they told me that it was lost!" Leung Siu Lung said that before he and Lord Sing agreed that if he was not happy with the collaboration they would terminate the contract early. Thus after one year with Star Overseas he suggested a contract termination. Leung Siu Lung remained angry, "I thought that he came from red trousers he would understand the pains of actors. I didn't expect it to be like this, the commission is outrageous! He is a very smart person, very opportunistic person, right it is a cannibalistic world. I am dumb so I was eaten. I treat it like gaining an experience!" Star Overseas said, "The commission is taken in accordance to the contract, it wouldn't be seasonal. As for losing the contract, that is even more impossible. He can pick up the contract copy at anytime. (Did Leung Siu Lung terminate the contract early?) No such thing, the contract came to term and ended." * (2013/03/08) Miriam Yeung Chin Wa originally had a chance to play a couple with old flame Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, but her pregnancy has put a stop to all that. Finally the Raymond Wong Pak Ming supported new comer Karena Ng Chin Yu will take her place. In order to turn Chin Yu into "Chin Wa II", the film company not only ordered her to study Chin Wa's old films to practice her movements and manner of speech but also ordered the soft voiced Chin Yu to practice laughing loudly everyday! Before her pregnancy Chin Wa agreed to work with old flame Cheng Chung Kei on Wong Pak Ming's new film NAM YUN YU YI FOOK (MEN ARE LIKE CLOTHES). Since their breakup they have rarely been on the screen together, with plenty of romantic scenes viewers were looking forward to the film. Unfortunately Chin Wa's pregnancy forced a recast. Finally the Wong Pak Ming supported new comer Ng Chin Yu took over. For double insurance, the film company even asked Teresa Mo Shun Kwan to join the cast. In addition, because the script initially was tailored for Chin Wa and Cheng Chung Kei it has been changed continuously over the months. The originally scheduled March production start also had to be delayed until next month. Wong Pak Ming said that Chin Wa's pregnancy did not mess up the new film plan. "Pregnancy is good!" Because earlier Kelly Chen Wai Lam learned that she was pregnant after agreeing to perform in ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING PO HEI), Wong Pak Ming joked, "Which female star wants to have a child should work on my movies!" * (2012/03/08) Martial art film star Vincent Zhao Wenzhou's DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) production team terminated their collaboration, a matter that recently has become scorching hot. Zhao Wenzhou earlier in a Mainland newspaper interview said that the production team's script change lit the fuse, as he said with grievances, "We actors are the weak masses." Because of confidentiality agreement he could not say much. In order to make DUT, he turned down one television series and another series delayed its production. During the dispute, he was rumored to be arrogant and upset the team. He felt that he suffered damages to his reputation and finances, thus he would reserve the right to take legal action. Zhao Wenzhou understood that the director and the producer changing scripts were frequently seen. He minded so much because the duel scene that he wanted the most with Donnie Yen Chi Tan was removed. Zhao Wenzhou spoke up, but he only received one response from the team. "You don't need to fight here anymore." What duty did producer Yen Chi Tan have? Zhao Wenzhou replied, "The producer had the right to decide life and death in the team, responsible for everything that has to do with the film." * (2012/03/08) The film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) held its Beijing premiere. During the earlier promotional tour the two leads Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Simon Yam Tat Wa did not run into each other. This time the two Best Actors finally did. Cheung Ka Fai said that working with Yam Tat Wa was the most fun. Because when they have worked together before, Yam always played his "boss". This time he struck back as Yam Tat Wa kept taking a beating from him. He was even able to take a knife and stab him. At the event Cheung Ka Fai and Yam Tat Wa also shared facts that they did not dare to face. Yam Tat Wa after playing in over 100 police films sometimes would be confused whether he was a cop. Earlier he and his daughter saw on the street the NIGHTFALL poster, in which he pointed a gun at Cheung Ka Fai. She asked whether he caught the thief because she always thought Papa was a cop. He explained may times but she still did not understand. Ka Fai over 10 years ago worked on a film in Thailand. The director asked him to jump from 50 meters above. He was very nervous, felt very dumb and did not dare to face it. During the shoot, when his feet left the ground and he jumped down he felt that it was very enjoyable. * (2012/03/08) Director Ann Hui On Wa earlier accepted that TVB Entertainment News station interview. Aside from sharing A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) production highlight, she also talked about her life outside film. When Hui On Wa started to make A SIMPLE LIFE, Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han were already her first choices for leads. Yet Ip Tak Han has not made a movie in a long time, thus when Ann talked with Ip Tak Han she was afraid of being rejected. In addition, she also worried that Wa Jai's salary would be too high and make the film production lack funding. Luckily, both agreed and Wa Jai even became the film's investor to resolve the funding shortage issue. As for Wa Jai's Golden Horse Best Actor, Ann was very excited because Wa Jai gave both money and effort to the film and made many contributions. Now he finally sees the return. Speaking of the production, Ann revealed that most of the film was shot in a senior home. At first she was worried that Wa Jai would be too popular and make the set out of control, but because most of the senior home residents' age they did not recognize Wa Jai. Instead other actors like Tam Bing Man and Helena Law Lan were more popular than Wa Jai. Ann admitted that she would be happier about a high box office than awards because only the box office was related to investors and film company productions. However she would insist on making her expertise of realistic films and small budget life films. she would not due to the box office switch to make commercial films. Aside from film work, Hui On Wa revealed that in recent years she liked to exercise, swim and shop. Speaking of shopping, Ann's response was greater than when she talked about films. If she was able to buy something she liked at a super low price, she would feel infinitely satisfied. * (2012/03/08) Although his wife is already seven months pregnant and recently even caught grocery shopping in Hong Kong, Andy Lau Tak Wa recently has been busy with Mainland promotion of A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) and could not protect his wife. Two nights ago Wa Jai, Ip Tak Han and director Hui On Wa attended a Shanghai premiere. Due to the extremely great A SIMPLE LIFE and numerous awards, the premiere tickets were sold out long ago. The Shanghai stop premiere press conference attracted many reporters. Later everyone attended the premiere. Lau Tak Wa was both A SIMPLE LIFE executive producer and star. In recent years Wa Jai's film releases were mostly dramatic. A SIMPLE LIFE star Qin Hailu joked that Wa Jai was a "literary youth". Wa Jai said, "Maybe others feel I have this type of aura. If they say I am then I am." Wa Jai pointed out that he invested in A SIMPLE LIFE mainly because of his promise 10 years ago to Hui On Wa. 30 years ago his first film BOAT PEOPLE (TAU BUN NO HOI)'s director was Hui On Wa. In 2001 he said to Hui On Wa no matter when as long as she liked he would support her at whatever the cost. Yet Hui On Wa's earlier drama would rather work with Wong Jing than Wa Jai. Wa Jai said, "Maybe she thought I was kidding, or maybe she was afraid that I would lose money." Wa Jai pointed out that now film and television companies are some publicly traded companies. Projects that might lose money would be hard to approve. This time he lowered his salary and told the bosses the investment risk at most would be 10% of the production cost. Finally the bosses invested. Thus Wa Jai would not be paid until A SIMPLE LIFE performed ideally at the box office. In addition, two nights ago at A SIMPLE LIFE premiere, the 100 yuan premiere tickets were sold out in a short time and were scalped for 200 yuan. Nicky Wu (Ng Kei Lung) said after watching A SIMPLE LIFE he was very sentimental and hoped that his fans would be able to experience this sentiment. However he did not want everyone to spend their money so he would treat them to a screening. Hopefully everyone would have some understanding about life after watching. * (2012/03/08) The Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) starred THE LADY last night held its Taichung premiere. She and the director Luc Besson attended the press conference. She even showed off the Burmese that she has been practicing a long time. As for inviting Luc Besson to direct, she admitted that mainly it was due to her boyfriend's connection. He even praised his boyfriend to be her true love, much like Aung San Suu Ki's husband. Yeung Chi King remembered years ago after seeing movie plans about Aung San Suu Ki, she immediately told her manager to fight for a chance to perform for her. In 2007 after she read the script she thought "this not only was a touching story about love and sacrifice but also a role that I have no way to turn down." Later her boyfriend even called Luc Besson for her and brought them together for the collaboration. When the film production was near its end, Aung San Suu Ki was released from house arrest. Yeung Chi King thus had a chance to meet her in Myanmar. When they saw each other, Auny San Suu Ki gave Yeung Chi King a big hug and asked her a lot about the outside world. She was very friendly like a relative. They naturally and comfortably conversed, but they did not talk about any film detail. Yeung Chi King also praised her for her sense of humor. Aung San Suu Ki once revealed that she did not watch to see this film. Yeung Chi King understood and said, "I too don't want her to see this film, it would remind her of some heart breaking memories that upset her." The film mainly described Aung San Suu Ki's relationships with her husband and two sons, in particular her husband's understanding of her determination to "abandon husband and sons" for the democracy movement. He not only never gave up on her but also fully supported her. Yeung Chi King said that female viewers after watching would like to have such a husband. "The entire film doesn't have a single 'I love you' but it deeply moves. This is 'True Love'! (Do you have such true love?) I feel I do, don't you feel how fortunate I look?" After promoting in Taiwan Yeung Chi King will head to France for the Chevalier De La Legion d'Honneur. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 11 2012, FILM WORDS A SIMPLE LIFE IS NO TEAR JERKING MELODRAMA The Venice and Taiwan award winner A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) has become a Hong Kong news item, but because it is not a mainstream blockbuster its release date arrives slowly. Now finally it meets the audience. Everyone can see that Deanie Ip Tak Han's acting is indeed outstanding and her Best Actress awards are absolutely not superfluous. Producer and co-star Andy Lau Tak Wa also should be commended. Of course, director Ann Hui On Wa deserves the most respect. For decades her films have been both hot and cold, gains and losses. Ultimately they are different from the usual. This one fortunately returns to simplicity. Not going with the flow, the film achieves realistic humanity. A SIMPLE LIFE is based on a true story about a touching relationship between film producer Roger and his old maid. With Hong Kong realistic master and maid relationship stories, in the past a particularly famous one has been the blind female social worker Ching Man Fai's autobiographical lifelong mother-and-daughter-like relationship with her maid, ONE OF THE LUCKY ONES (BOON NGOR TUNG HUNG). The story has been adapted to the stage and the screen. The Jacob Cheung Chi Leung directed INTIMATES (JI SOR) has also been made about old fashioned "Ma Jeh" (maids). Inspired by the Leung So Kee Umbrella Factory, the famous play THE UMBRELLA STORY (YUN GAN YAU CHING) mentioned the tradition of old store owner and employees being on the same boat for the long haul, which also had been made into a film. The boss and employee relationship subject often is nostalgic, admittedly it can easily be excessively melodramatic. A SIMPLE LIFE is a rare breed that is without any tear jerking melodrama, its focus is not nostalgia either. It does not even detail how Sister Peach "raised" the young master. The main story is the life of an old and ailing Sister Peach after being admitted to a senior home, which turns into a senior film that is very alternative in today's Hong Kong market. This film bucks the trend, which perfectly illustrates Hui On Wa's unconventional sincerity. Actually Hui On Wa over a decade ago made a critical and commercial hit that won Josephine Siao Fong Fong the Berlin Best Award, SUMMER SNOW (NUI YUN SEI SUP), which already brought attention to the elder (Roy Chiao (Kiu Wang) played a father in law with Alzheimer's). In the recent box office bomb that received rave reviews, THOSE ARE THE DAYS (TIN SHUI WAI DIK YUT YU YEH), the lonely old lady character also stands out. Then A SIMPLE LIFE even features the old maid as the lead, further brings attention to the more and more common in society but often neglected by the mainstream elderly problems. In the film the senior home is the main story. Aside from Ip Tak Han who is excellently convincing, many actors Paul Chun Pui, Leung Tin, Hui So Ying, Kung Shuet Fa, Qin Hailu and others each display their ware. Also Tsui Hark, Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Anthony Wong Chau Sun, Chapman To Man Jat, Jim Chim Shui Man, Tam Bing Man and others assist in support. Although the story is simple, the characters are rich and colorful. The most important is its strong sense of realism, the details involves every aspect of society. In it the film industry "negotiation" is particularly interesting. Lau Tak Wa as the on the run film producer is an especially low key yet sincere performance that truly has emotions and loyalty. The "Ma Jeh" era has long passed. Today with more old people, Hong Kong families depend heavily on foreign maids to help with the elderly and the young. Foreign maid situations should also receive some attention. Unfortunately seemingly no film has been made with the foreign maid as the lead (except the hard to release independent films). When will it appear? (Four out of Five Stars) - SHEK KEI 2. TA KUNG PAO, MARCH 11 2012, LIGHT SHADOW PATH CHIEF EXECUTIVE CANDIDATES COME UP WITH WAYS TO HELP FILM INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT Last Wednesday film workers and performing artist committee representatives met with the Chief Executive candidates at the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild to suggest their wishes for the industries to them. Unfortunately the newspaper next day basically did not report any of the discussion and continued with negative news that kept discrediting the candidates, which was quite discouraging. The industry's question for each candidate was similar, most were film industry related. Among them the most important topic was how to cultivate personnel, for example whether film academy could become one of the cohices. Henry Tang Ying-yen pointed out that the West Kowloon Project included a Chinese Opera academy, but a film academy has not been considered yet. However he agreed that they could have the space to continue the discussion. Some colleagues pointed out that after personnel cultivates, without any cinema to show their work the effort would still be wasted. Currently only 40 cinemas remained, and the seat numbers continued to shrink. If the government will not help soon, the future will be even bleaker. Now shopping centers are unwilling to build cinemas mainly due to economic benefit considerations. Tang Ying-yen and Leung Chun-ying agreed that they had to have certain policies to protect the existence of cinemas. One of the important ways should be regulation that requires property developers to build cinemas at the shopping center. The government's indirect assistance seemed to be the only way. As for whether the West Kowloon Cultural District could build an even larger and more convenient film museum than the current Film Archive, Tang Ying-yen felt that events like film exhibits and classic film screenings could take place at the Museum plus, which could also display art and fine art exhibits. Hong Kong films are all in Cantonese, now Hong Kong films can already be released in its original soundtrack in the Guangdong province. Strengthening the collaboration with Guangdong was one of the ways for development. Leung Chun-ying pointed out that the Special Administrative Regional office in Guangdong should be expanded. He said that now the United Kingdoms' office in Guangdong Province is larger than Hong Kong's. The expansion of the office will be beneficial to strengthen the development in the Guangdong Province. Director Ng See Yuen pointed out that after the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement signing, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Regional government did not actively follow up. The so-called no quota Hong Kong film import seemed to require sales to the China Film Group, the condition of which has not been ideal. In addition the Hong Kong film inspection did not receive appropriate loosening (Hong Kong films have other regions' color). Some film companies had no way to resolve a variety of issues when entering the Mainland market. Leung Chun-ying suggested a Government to Government channel, as the governments on both sides establish facilities to resolve issues. The most common point was, chief executive candidates agreed that a cultural council was needed to unify cultural industry management. Hong Kong's cultural industry is a type of soft power, for example film and music have all had glorious pasts. Yet now cultural development is far behind economic development, the government should adopt appropriate attitude to assist. - TIN LIK [ In Production Now/Soon ] Can : Jat Jik Lit : Promotion Irene Wan Bik Han, William Chan Wai Lam, Michelle Wai (Si Nga), Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung, Patrick Tam Yiu Man NATURAL BORN LOVERS Can : Tin Sun Oi Ching Kong Lit : Natural Born Love Maniac d. Not every love story is a fairy tale. After a dramatic wedding feast, unusual love stories unfold towards unexpected endings: a brother and sister in love caught by the mother, a married painter falls for his young life drawing model of same sex, an intimacy between a dance school teacher and his wealthy but senior student, a lesbian couple of which one has role-play paranoid, a dreadful love triangle ending with the girl being beheaded… "Love Actually…Sucks!" celebrates love that no one care but real, for life is love, love as it is. [ PHILADELPHIA QFEST ] Taking inspiration from six different court cases involving crimes of the heart, Scud examines the intense, often self-destructive sexual longings among several well-to-do young Hong Kong residents – gay, lesbian and straight. The film opens with the most scandalous wedding reception ever put on film: a young couple’s marriage ends (in the most dramatic fashion) before it begins. There is the 30-ish married gym instructor who trolls the active bathroom scene for young flesh; a lesbian couple with roleplay issues; a dance instructor who becomes the object of attraction to his much older student; a married painter who falls for his male model; a brother and sister who take family togetherness a bit too literally; and a young man who becomes increasingly deranged until he takes his love interest problems into his own hands. In Scud’s world, every love story is a fairy tale – but here the stories are sexual and troubling. Overall, a complex, sensual and compelling film. Ever since Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sang “It’s a Fine Romance” in 1936’s Swing Time, movies have been bowing down to the power of love. Unfortunately, Hollywood just doesn’t make romantic comedies the way they used to and these days if you’re looking for love in an American movie, you’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Thank Aphrodite for Korea. Ever since My Sassy Girl broke box office records in 2001, the Korean film industry has been making some of the funniest, most outrageously swoony movie romances, and for this series we’ve picked three of the best. Tuesday, APRIL 10, 2012 @ 7pm PETTY ROMANCE (2010, 118 minutes) A word-of-mouth hit in 2010, this romance is set in the world of manhwa (Korean comic books), and the couple at the center of the story have chemistry to burn. TV star Lee Seon-Gyun is a struggling manhwa artist who enters a competition with a massive cash prize. To raise his chances of winning, he hires a sex advice columnist, Choi Gang-Heui (star of the breakout hit, My Scary Girl), to write his erotic comic. Little does he know that she plagiarized her column from the Kama Sutra and the Kinsey Report because her ideas about sex are a bit…vague, to put it kindly. PETTY ROMANCE been winning hearts and minds on the film festival circuit for a year and it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 @ 7pm MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT (2009, 112 minutes) Opening at number one, and staying in the box office top ten for nine straight weeks, MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT is the Korean version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Kim Ha-Neul gets dumped by her boyfriend, Kang Ji-Hwan, because she’s never around. Actually, she’s a spy. Three years later, he runs into her again, only now he’s also joined the intelligence service too, albeit in a different department. Now they both have undercover identities they both have to keep hidden and they’ve got secret missions they both have to fulfill, while working out the trauma of their past relationship. Full of high-speed chases and plenty of glossy gunplay, it’s easy to see why a movie this fast on its feet is already slated for a Bollywood remake. --- [ WHAT IS YOUR CHAFFING EDITOR LISTENING TO ] SHINE A LIGHT Alan Tam Wing Lun http://youtu.be/07dq6E_ZoL0 ---------------------- HK Top Ten Central hktopten@hotmail.com | http://hktopten.freewebhostx.com
