Later it will shoot on location in Yunnan. Goo Jai in the film played a big time drug lord who has been wanted for 16 years as Sun Honglei was on his pursuit. Earlier Goo Jai shot an escape scene and needed to jump from three floors above. Goo Jai who just recovered from his leg injury performed the stunt himself. To Kei Fung for the first time daringly placed the mobile phone information safety issue in the film. "For the first time I try an all new angle and style to make a police film. Goo Jai and Yip Shuen's relationship is the key clue in this film, the mystery of their romance adds to the suspense." * (2012/03/07) The film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) held its Beijing premiere. Director Ann Hui On Wa and Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han, Qin Hailu attended. Ip Tak Han said that A SIMPLE LIFE brought her the Best Actress award, which has not brought her more offers. However Wa Jai suggested working with Sister Deanie again. He said that Mona Fong Yat Wa suggested a film topic for him and he was very interested. The story would be in a comedy format like FORREST GUMP, as one character brought out Hong Kong's decades of change. He and Deanie will be able to perform together again. Speaking of A SIMPLE LIFE, Wa Jai played Roger who still had to remain tough at work when Sister Peach was ailing. He was sentimentally reminded of his final conversation with his good friend Anita Mui Yim Fong. He said that at the time Ah Mui was sick but was still clear headed enough to speak. He was in the U.S. at the time, told her over the phone that he would be back tomorrow but actually he had a concert the next day and could not. When he returned to Hong Kong, Ah Mui already could not speak and was in a coma. Life has many incidents like that and he could do nothing about them. Now he has learned to cherish those in front of him even more. Hui On Wa in the interview also admitted that she was old when she did not before. Because she was a female director, she has always been discriminated again. Now that she is old, she will face "double discrimination"; she could only tell herself that she did not need to recognize others' bias. * (2012/03/07) Juno Mak Chun Lung yesterday attended a spring and summer fashion event, which displayed a series of short films that he made for the brand. This year is his 10th in the business so the brand presented him with a bicycle. He revealed that in order to make the short films, he had to dance for 13 hours in a smoke filled location, ended up with severe throat reaction and the doctor had to prescribe some strong asthma medication for him. Joining the business in July 2002, Juno this year will direct his first film. "Last year I won a script award in Moscow so this time I will write my own script too. It's almost done, but I won't perform. I will only concentrate on directing." He estimated that the film will start production in the middle of the year. The story will have some horror elements and the cast will include some veteran actors. However he could not reveal any names yet. "This time I want to salute the 80s Hong Kong films. hong Kong is a very powerful place. I want to make a purely Hong Kong film, as it shouldn't be just co-productions. (How much will the investment be?) I won't invest, I will only produce. The investors will be outsiders. (Are you worried about not knowing how to control cost?) Then I won't eat the rice box!" He admitted that he felt nervous about his debt as a director, and he took a new comer salary. * (2012/03/07) The Chen Kuo-Fu produced, Wuershan directed PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION (WAT PEI II) earlier held a Beijing press conference to officially announce the film's summer release. Leads Chen Kun, Feng Shaofeng, Mini Yang Mi, Chen Ting-Chia attended the event and introduced seven mysterious posters. The posters of the two female leads Zhou Xun and Vicki Zhao Wei were cold blue ice and water based. Zhou Xun's "Xiao Wei" bared her shoulder with cold beauty while Zhao Wei's "Princess Jing" coolly covered her face with a golden mask. Chen Kun's "Huo Xin" with a short sword and sharp eyes was raging with masculine fire. Zhou Xun, Zhao Wei and Chen Kun reunited four years after. What kind of story did they perform? Chen Kun performed tai chi when he discussed his character, saying "Huo Xin" could either be a demon or a human. As for the relationship between the two heavyweight female stars he said that the posters already clearly stated everything. In the film he was like fire, Zhou Xun was cold and distant like ice and Zhao Wei was completely clear as water. Fire, ice and water originally could not be together but in the end they all melted into one. PAINTED SKIN: THE RESURRECTION was also the first film that Feng Shaofeng and Yang Mi worked together on. Feng Shaofeng said that he was a "demon catcher with very little ability and has never seen a real demon." Yang Mi humorously said that she played a "bird person" but being able to pick on the demon catcher was a benefit. As for their relationship Yang Mi pointed out that their relationship between human and demon exceeded nature. * (2012/03/07) The kung fu kid Chen Tianxing directed and starred first real kung fu film from China, NUN CHUCKS, has already opened earlier this month nationwide. Earlier Chen Tianxing led NUN CHUCKS stars Yu Yangfei, Huang Xiheng and Miu Shixuan to Changsha to promote the film. Chen Tianxing said that although the film did not have any big stars, it was a real kung fu film without any special effect, wire or stunt double. NUN CHUCKS is about a filmmaker who is obsessed with Bruce Lee's kung fu. In order to make a Bruce Lee movie he neglects his family. Finally his wife leaves him and his son is kidnapped. In the process of saving his son he understands what is the real nun chucks spirit. Chen Tianxing said that most of the film was based on life experience. He studied martial art for 26 years and Bruce Lee was his idol. He also made 8 kung fu films before but none had theatrical release. During his filmmaking process he lost everything, finally his former girlfriend chose to leave him and left him very sentimental. Chen Tianxing said that this production was absolutely "for real". Martial art actors were asked to fight while protecting their own safety, which was a huge bright spot for the film's action scenes. All the fight scenes in the bamboo forest, the swamp, the cliff, hillside had no special effect at all. Because of this film's display of exciting real kung fu action and Chinese value, it won the 5th Cologne International Film Festival's highest honor and overseas kung fu fan support. Today kung fu fans and Bruce Lee fans from everywhere have already booked over 200 shows. * (2012/03/06) Vincent Zhao Wenzhou and the film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY) ended their collaboration. Two days ago they even traded accusations. The team is asking Andy On Chi Kit to replace Zhao Wenzhou. Producer and action director Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday met with On Chi Kit to discuss the script details. Lord Tan already knew about the team's statement two days ago but still felt it was sudden. He hoped the matter would come to an end to avoid damage to both sides from further entanglement. He said, "I am very disappointed to see the situation now and not be able to work with Zhao Wenzhou, hopefully we will have another chance later." Lord Tan's spokesperson Ms. Cheung said that Lord Tan and On Chi Kit's meeting went smoothly and that Lord Tan has been meeting with the team without any sleep or rest to tailor the character and design action scenes for On Chi Kit. In the film they will have a ten minute long fight scene, which hopefully will be able to display On Chi Kit's martial art action potential. * (2012/03/06) Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han and Ann Hui On was promoted A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) in Beijing. A SIMPLE LIFE will open on March 8 in the Mainland. Wa Jai kissed up and sent well wishes to female fans on March 8, Women's Day. He loved all women and added that he loved all men. A SIMPLE LIFE was a topical film. Wa Jai said that when he decided to invest in this film he already absolutely trusted director Hui On Wa. Now the film has won word of mouth, he thought that it was deserved. However, Wa Jai did not make any box office prediction, but distributor Yu Dong predicted that A SIMPLE LIFE in the Mainland will make over 100 million and be another surprise hit dramatic film. Wa Jai said that A SIMPLE LIFE's multiple awards were due to director Hui On Wa's hard work and luck. He revealed that his mother once had his fortune told and learned that he would depend on women all his life. His first television series had a female director, A SIMPLE LIFE also had a female director. He joked that many of his opportunities came from women. Wa Jai invested mostly in dramatic films. He said that dramatic film investments were not so enormous and the stress was lighter. Being called a "cultured youth", his cultural hobby included modern dance. Wa Jai said that he wanted to participate in a modern dance performance at this year's Hong Kong Art Festival, but after two weeks of practice he thought he was performing too poorly and gave up. He felt that if he could not achieve his own demand he was better off not showing anyone. * (2012/03/06) Shu Qi and Shawn Yue Man Lok promoted THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) in Guangzhou. Shu Qi said that playing twin sisters in the film and again playing entangled characters made her very tired, as she felt like she had nothing left. She already rested for half a year, during which directors asked her to performance but all were entangled characters. Thus she did not dare to look at another script as she was afraid that she could not be able to help herself. Sometimes she even turned off her computer in order to have a long vacation for herself. In the film Yue Man Lok fell for twin sisters. She said that in real life if she ran into this type of men she definitely would chop him into mince meat. Has she experienced having love taken away? Shu Qi said that she would not a third party. If she fell for her sister's boyfriend she would only hide it inside; she would not steal someone else's husband either. * (2012/03/06) The Chapman To Man Jat and Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam starred LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI) will be released on March 8, Women's Day, in the Mainland. Yesterday they attended a Beijing press conference. The event even prepared a certificate for Ah Jat to commend his perfect performance as a husband in the film. Ah Jat praised this film as a rare script with sincerity in recent years. "Although many viewers may laugh as soon as they see me, but to me this movie has moved me more." Elanne pointed out that Ah Jat in real life treats his wife very well, as he makes coffee for her every morning. Ah Jat even shared his "good man secret" of treating his wife like his boss. "You would never argue with your boss." He felt that harmony was the most important between a couple. Someone had to take the blame and usually he would. When his wife was unhappy then he was unhappy. The film's Hong Kong film release will be March 22 with advanced screenings. Elanne's line in the film was the most memorable to Ah Jat. "I used to lift weights for myself, now it's for my husband." At the time Ah Jat watched the film with his wife, who was moved to tears. Elanne said that the challenge that the film provided her was not just gaining weight or weightlifting, but also the crying scene in which director Herman Yau Lai To did not design his lines for her. He said that the camera was there, she could say whatever she wanted. For one of the crying scenes, many of the workers around Elanne were shedding tears. She said, "The director left right away. Then the next day he told me, he at the time could not help but cry either." * (2012/03/06) Michael Wong Man Tak on the first shoot of the NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) had to "take care of" his daughter Janice Man Wing Shan. In order to play the great musician character, Wong Man Tak grew a beard and often physically abused his daughter. Wong Man Tak drank some red wine to boost his fatherly might before taking his mark. As the cameras rolled he said a few lines and immediately got into character. He angrily yelled at Man Wing Shan and even threw his phone on the floor. Then he grabbed a ruler and whipped Man Wing Shan with it. He pushed her to the floor and even the wine glass on the table were shattered during his action sequence. Man Wing Shan coordinated with Wong Man Tak's emotional performance and began to bawl. Even when the director yelled stop, she still could not. Later Man Wing Shan realized that when Wong Man Tak pushed her to the floor, she sprained her calf. Man Wing Shan admitted that Wong Man Tak's realistic performance frightened her, but she also benefited from his "wildness". she said, "I never thought that Michael spanking me with a ruler would hurt so much. Luckily earlier the director gave me an 'additional lesson' before and reminded me to give me all. Originally the director suggested that I used padding, but I insisted on getting hit for real. With Michael's guidance I completely collapsed. He was very explosive, my interaction with him enabled my performance." Michael gave Man Wing Shan the violent treatment the first time they worked together, which he was very sorry about. He said, "Actually my heart ached as I hit her forcefully, like I was hitting my own daughter. Seeing how hard Janice cried I was even sorrier. I would rather fight half to death with a male co-star." * (2012/03/05) Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Christine Kuo two nights ago worked on the Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum)'s film NATURAL BORN LOVERS (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG) in Mongkok. In the story Chilam wore a cute beer hat and went on a walk with Lau Sum Yau, but they ran into his old flame Christine Kuo. Although it was just a few minutes, due to all the noise and flash photography from the crowd the production was affected. To keep the cast from disturbance, the crew raised black cloth for cover but the people still knelt down to take photos. Chilam often dined in Mongkok and would try to coordinate photo requests. He said, "An artist doesn't need to be too emotional, no artist is more famous than Chow Yun Fat and he too always takes the bus and the MTR!" Has he run into an ex like the story? Chilam said, "I haven't because most of my exes are my good friends and they aren't too many anyway. My wife (Anita) Yuen Wing Yi wouldn't be jealous. She has always encouraged me to make more friends." Lau Sum Yau admitted that with Chilam and the crew's protection she was not worried about the chaos. "I have shopped here for undergarment, but I have to pick the right time to come." She and Chilam had kiss scenes but they happened in a very natural environment, so she would not be embarrassed. * (2012/03/05) The Youth Film Handbook organized 2011 Chinese Film Top Ten and the 3rd Golden Broom Award took place two nights ago in Beijijng. The Chinese Top Ten winning films included A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH), LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM) and YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE. * (2012/03/05) According to an overseas site Chow Yun Fat will work on the Wong Jing directed new film ONCE UPON A TIME IN SHANGHAI, but Wong Jing said that Philip Ng Won Lung will star in that film. The new film that he is planning to work with Chow Yun Fat on after over a decade will be DAI SEUNG HOI (BIG SHANGHAI), but because neither contract has been signed nor detail has been confirmed nothing is set yet. * (2012/03/05) Vincent Zhao Wenzhou recently was accused of acting like a big shot and rejected to accept the Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced film DUT SHU SUN FUN's work notice. His manager and the production both have issued statements, both sides with their own perspectives. Zhao Wenzhou yesterday attended a press conference with his wife Zhang Danlu to further clarify this issue. At the event Zhao Wenzhou also issued a statement about the production dispute with his own signature at the bottom. Zhao Wenzhou said that recently some media's untrue reporting has already created damage to his his personal social value, solemnly he read the prepared statement. He said that he dissolved the contract with the production because of the other party's contract content changes without authorization. Zhao Wenzhou's lawyer also issued a statement that any behavior that would damage Zhao Wenzhou's reputation, image and other legal rights would result in legal action. The statement pointed out that recent reports of Zhao Wenzhou's arrogance were severely untrue and confusing. They not only misdirected the public but also damaged his personal social value. Thus he clarified, first the termination of the collaboration was due to party A, the production team's contract violation and changing the contract content without authorization. Secondly, currently he has returned to Beijing due to party A ripping up the contract and discontinuing the collaboration, thus he no longer needed to continue to stay at the production location. Finally, he wanted to say that everything he has said above was true. If this matter has any new development he will inform everyone. * (2012/03/05) Fiona Sit Hoi Kei, Pakho Chau, Shiga Lin (Lam Si Nga), Dear Jane yesterday attended a promotion. Fiona said that luckily due to a director's support, her new film that originally would have started production in March has been postponed until July. She said, "Right now (the film) details can't be discussed yet, but this time I will work with a Best Actress. (She is willing to wait for you?) That's right, thank you very much to the director for helping out." * (2012/03/04) Francis Ng Chun Yu earlier accepted the Ann Hui On Wa directed MEI HO 2012 (FINE 2012) and played a transgender in the half hour segment. Chun Yu said that transgender people were afraid of people calling them monsters. Thus they looked particularly men and would not sound feminine. However he also had to learn how to be more feminine. This character's most special part was the man after the sex change would become a lesbian, as he hoped to be in contact with woman in a female body. Chun Yu thought that this film was very fun and thanked the director for giving him a role that he always wanted to play. As for when Chun Yu will direct again, he admitted that after the birth of his son he hoped to spend more time with him. In addition after making enough milk money he still had to make college money. Acting paid better as a director could only make a movie a year. Thus for the short run he will not direct again. * (2012/03/04) Andy Lau Tak Wa and Deanie Ip Tak Han yesterday promoted the multiple film award winner A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) and celebrated the Women's Day on March 8 in advance. Wa Jai in the film played the young master Roger and had a master maid relationship with Sister Peach Ip Tak Han. The venue was made to look like Wa Jai's on screen home and displayed A SIMPLE LIFE's past awards as well as items that Roger used, like Sister Peach's handmade cotton clothing, carrying strap and diapers. Wa Jai and Ip Tak Han shared the production experience and played games with the audience. When the host asked which one of the awards that A SIMPLE LIFE won was their favorite and was Sister Deanie's favorite the Venice Best Actress, Wa Jai joked that no one should worship the West too much because the other awards were very strong too. he said that they were waiting for the one in Hong Kong. Sister Deanie said that she had feelings for every award, especially the Venice one because it was her first Venice Film Festival. Wa Jai heard and said, "Like a country bumpkin." Sister Deanie joked, "Right, I really am a big country bumpkin. So this time I wanted to learn." She said that this trip to Venice was very surprising and said that this award was truly very heavy. Earlier announcing that his wife was carrying a daughter, Wa Jai in June will become a father. Although Wa Jai avoided talking about his wife and child every time, yesterday when he played games with children he was very involved, especially with little girls. Later Wa Jai also held Roger's diaper display and said that the longer the diaper was used the better quality it was. The host praised Wa Jai on his knowledge, which scared Wa Jai into immediately dropping the diaper and changed the subject. Ip Tak Han two days ago received the Hong Kong Film Critic Society Best Actress award. How will she celebrate? Sister Deanie said that she went to see Yoyo Ma. Wa Jai was asked about fatherhood. Reporters said that Wa Jai was particularly interested in diapers. Wa Jai said that he would not talk about this subject. Speaking of taking special care of children, he explained that he has always taken special care of children and seniors. Will he use cloth or disposable diaper later with his daughter? Sister Deanie defended him and said, "You are still asking?" Reporters explained that because they did not have anything to talk about. Sister Deanie immediately said that reporters could ask about Wa Jai's latest book. Wa Jai revealed that the new book was titled MY 30 WORK DAYS, a highlight of 30 days when he made A SIMPLE LIFE. He said, "The film was shot inside a senior residence. I documented the shoot. The workers saw it and thought it was interesting so they published it into the book for me." Wa Jai and Sister Deanie's awards will be on display until the end of the month. Because viewers could appreciate them in close distance, were they worried about someone would steal them? Wa Jai said, "No one would. Like during the 100th anniversary of film, many filmmakers donated their awards for display." Sister Deanie two days ago said that the award would go to Wa Jai, who pointed out that Sister Deanie already had many awards at his company. Earlier Wa Jai said that he was worried A SIMPLE LIFE would lose over 1 million. Wa Jai said that the film has already been sold in Europe so it would not. He did not dare to say how much the Hong Kong box office will be and the film should receive Hong Kong viewer support. * (2012/03/03) Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Kathy Tong Yi, Jinny Ng Yeuk Hei and Ciwi Lam Sze Man earlier rehearsed their new film NATURAL BORN LOVER (TIN SUN OI CHING KONG). Although Chi Lam is 40, he successfully had the three "little girls" under his spell as they fought for photos with him. Even Sum Yau had nothing but praise for Chilam. "He is 'four good', good husband, good father, good actor and good singer." Chilam who appeared in a chef look revealed that normally he cooked for his wife, who praised his abalone instant noodle. Sum Yau has not made a Hong Kong film in a long time, so she had trouble with her Cantonese lines. Later she admitted that she was a little nervous. * (2012/03/03) The 18th Hong Kong Film Critic Society Award took place yesterday at the Film Archive. Deanie Ip Tak Han and Lau Ching Wan won the Best Actor and Actress, Jiang Wen also received the Best Director Award and Best Picture went to the Ann Hui On Wa directed A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH); Best Screenplay went to LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE (DUET MING GUM)'s Au Kin Yi, Wong King Fai and Milky Way Creative Team. Ching Wan, Sister Deanie, Jiang Wen, Hui On Wa were present to accept the awards. Ching Wan won with LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE. He thanked the Film Critic Society. He was particularly happy that he was able to win for the first time with a Johnnie To Kei Fung directed film. He also had to thank Lo Hoi Peng for his suggestions about the character; Jiang Wen joked that the film obviously was good due to the actors performance, but it still won the Director award. However he was still very happy because usually when he was the actor the director won, when he directed the actors won. This time was an exception (directed and starred). Jiang Wen continued, "This time I came to Hong Kong for three days, I have been on the stage three times and won three awards. Hong Kong truly is paying respect to me. I hope to be able to stay a little longer, in a year I may be able to win over 300 awards!" After the ceremony, Ching Wan expressed that he was very happy because he won an award for the first time with a To Kei Fung film. In the past he blamed himself for not performing good enough. Ching Wan continued, "I was really sorry, I thank Ah To for always giving me good characters. This time I can answer to him, finally I have grown into an adult!" As for the later Hong Kong Film Award, Ching Wan said that the two awards were different. In his experience, after winning the Film Critic Society Award three times he has lost at the other one three times. yet now he was very happy to have one. Sister Deanie for the fourth time with A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) won Best Actress. Was she confident about winning six? Deanie pretended her head itch and said, "The chances are even." Sister Deanie said that she would still give this award to Andy Lau Tak Wa, as she joked that he had plenty of space for awards. Has she picked out what to wear yet? Sister Deanie said that she was more casual, if she had to dress up she truly had difficulty. Thus every time Wa Jai's company arranged what she wore. Would she like to win Best Actress with Wa Jai as the Best Actor? Sister Deanie said, "Of course!" As for meeting Jiang Wen for the first time, Sister Deanie praised him as a good actor and a good director. If in the future they will have a chance to work together she will welcome it very much, but she will not take the initiative and ask because she felt actors were more passive. * (2012/03/03) The Andy Lau Tak Wa, Deanie Ip Tak Han starred, Ann Hui On Wa directed film A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) two nights ago held a premiere at Central and everyone appeared in black. The cast including a granny, Queenie Chu Wai Man, Jim Chim Shui Man, Kung Shuet Fa, Hiromi Wada attended in support. During the group photo, Granny saw Wa Jai and the others and immediately went to hug them. Due to the sheer number of people many had to kneel on the ground, when Granny volunteered Wa Jai immediately bent his legs so Granny could sit on his lap. A SIMPLE LIFE received many film award nominations, Deanie and Wa Jai said that they will be in Hong Kong and will attend together. Were they fully confident? Deanie said that everyone's chances were equal. Speaking of when Wa Jai would rest, he revealed after he finished his new film MAN HUP (BLIND HERO). However he didn't knew when the official shoot will be. Was he worried that it will clash with his wife's due date? Wa Jai immediately became uncomfortable and said, "I don't know! I don't care for now! (Shouldn't you choose family first?) I am under contract, if I have to go, I have to go to avoid getting sued!" When Deanie said that she already bought a gift, Wa Jai awkwardly joked that whether she bought it to celebrate the award. Deanie clarified that she already bought a gift for Wa Jai's baby. As for Wa Jai's reported purchase of a mansion in Malaysia, Wa Jai said that you have to ask whoever wrote that as he gradually walked behind Deanie. "There are many traps out there, I have no comment about that. (They even caught your wife buying Chinese herbal medicine?) Let's not talk about that, be nice. (Would your wife be upset?) No! It's fine! They are doing what they have to do!" * (2012/03/03) Shu Qi and Shawn Yue Man Lok two days ago attended THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) Beijing premiere and press conference. Yue Man Lok revealed that because her love scene with Shu Qi was so passionate, even the director's face was red. At the premiere, Shu Qi and Yue Man Lok traded compliments without any fear of rumors. Yue Man Lok said that Shu Qi was the goddess of his heart, pristine, cute and very beautiful. Shu Qi said that Yue Man Lok was not light enough, but calling him "dark horse prince" was still acceptable. As for Shu Qi in real life, Yue Man Lok said that she actually was not as strong as everyone imagined. She was like a silly little girl who was very slow, almost like she was an idiot. Shu Qi actually admitted Yue Man Lok's criticism. Shu Qi worked with Yue Man Lok this time and they had a lot of chemistry. Shu Qi was asked why she always became good friends with her male co-stars? Shu Qi immediately asked Yue Man Lok for help. "Really! Why?) Yue Man Lok joked, "I thought I was the only one online that she liked, later I realized that she liked everyone! Now I am no longer online." THE SECOND WOMAN will open on March 8, the same day that A SIMPLE LIFE will open. Director Carol Lai Miu Shuet said that they could provide even more good movies and choices to the audience. When asked, Shu Qi joked, "What about it, I am slow!" * (2012/03/02) Ann Hui On Wa at a Cable interview again thanked Andy Lau Tak Wa for providing his money and talent to A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH). His Golden Horse Best Actor award was "reward for his good deeds". "Roger isn't an award winning character but a light one. Only people who appreciate movies know Wa Jai's performance is great. If he wins another Best Actor, I would admire the jury's vision very much." Some said that Wa Jai invested to repay her for giving him his start. Hui On Wa disagreed, "Back then I asked him to make the movie only because he was suitable for the character. He brought to life the young James Dean." She will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 6th Asian Film Awards, will she retire soon? Hui On Wa joked that she was not good with money so she could not retire yet. She also wanted to make a story about young people in school. * (2012/03/02) Shu Qi and Shawn Yue Man Lok in the film THE SECOND WOMAN (CHING MAI) played stage actors. Before the play in the film, RED PLUM LEGEND, they had to do their homework. Yue Man Lok had to learn gestures and taking his marks, which were very difficult; Shu Qi played twin sisters. "During the shoot I felt like I was playing five characters, which almost drove me mad. I couldn't tell whether I was playing the older or the younger sister, even I was no longer Shu Qi." Yue Man Lok repeatedly acted with Shu Qi and her double. He joked that he felt a little schizophrenic. * (2012/03/02) Earlier reports claimed that Vincent Zhao Wenzhou was upset over the Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced film DUT SHU SUN FUN's script changes and declined to accept work notices. Since then, Zhao Wenzhou's management company issued a statement to deny the matter and even sited that the reports impacted his image. However, producer Yen Chi Tan yesterday through his spokesperson Ms. Cheung responded to the matter in a different tune. Ms. Cheung said, "Zhao Wenzhou is an actor who Yen Chi Tan admires. At first it was Chi Tan's suggestion to ask Zhao Wenzhou to perform. Thus when Chi Tan on the 24th learned from the producer that Zhao Wenzhou refused to accept any work notice, they contacted Zhao's manager (Terence) Chang Ka Chun together to attempt to persuade Zhao Wenzhou. Unfortunately the mediation failed. Chi Tan doesn't want to see the current situation but Chi Tan at the same time respects the team and the investors' decisions for the greater good." Will they look for another actor to take Zhao Wenzhou's role? Ms. Cheung said, "Chi Tan said that the team is meeting to discuss that, conceivably an announcement will be made later." * (2012/03/02) THE LION ROARS 2 (HOR TUNG SI HAU 2) team earlier appeared on Hunan Satellite. On the program, Cheung Pak Chi, Xiao Shenyang, Victor Huang, Jerry Wu Jianfei, Zhang Xinyu, Shen Fangxi shared production highlight. Cheung Pak Chi, Xiao Shenyang and Victor Huang even performed three songs from the film for the first time. Cheung Pak Chi this time with Victor Huang recorded the theme song FALLEN FOR YOU (OI SEUNG LIU NEI) for the film and performed it for the first time in front of a national audience for the first time on the program. * (2012/03/01) The Hong Kong Directors' Guild last night held its spring banquet and annual award presentation. The Ann Hui On Wa directed A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH) brought her the Most Outstanding Director of the Year and the Most Recommended Film; she even received the "Honorary Grand Prize". She thanked the Directors' Guild for this honor. She said that recently she won many awards. If she lost her head, she hoped everyone would remind her. Jiang Wen with LET THE BULLETS FLY won the Most Outstanding Director and The Most Recommended Film. He said that winning an award in Hong Kong was a little strange, he would never imagine that he would win two. Stephen Fung Tak Lun revealed that he is working on the film TAI CHI trilogy. The first two installments have already been completed. Speaking of Keanu Reeves' MAN OF TAI CHI, he felt that with one being modern and the other costume they had no conflict. He hoped for a summer release. He also revealed that his company with Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) is planning a racing film with Derek Yee Tung Sing as its director. "Ng Yin Cho and I both will perform. (Will you fight over the lead?) Let him have it, I will help with the camera!" * (2012/03/01) The Van Fan Yat Sun and Chrissie Chau Sun Na starred thriller ANY OTHER SIDE (YEH DIM GWAI TAM) will open in Hong Kong on March 15. Chau Sau Na in the film played twin sisters, which to her was a huge acting challenge. She even watched the classic Thai horror film ALONE to experience the character's mental condition in order to achieve the fatal thrill. Did she set off any spark with the numerous hunks in the film? Chau Sau Na said that working with Fan Yat Sun and other actors was pleasant. On the set they often had a lot of fun, of course sparks were inevitable. In the film Fan Yat Sun and Chau Sau Na had a bathtub scene that originally could be very hot, but they were "out of juice" because the murder scene was very terrifying. During that scene, everyone already worked all night and it was the last scene before the wrap. At the time everyone was out of juice and even took the chance to lie in the tub and rest for awhile. Since his comeback with the film CAPE NO. 7, Fan Yat Sun admitted that she would like to make films of different genres as his CAPE NO. 7 character was still a singer. he would like the most to write, direct and star i a humorous hero comedy. This time Fan Yat Sun was a comic book writer who created his own comic book characters, which he played to entertain himself. * (2012/03/01) Nick Cheung Ka Fai and Kay Tse On Kay promoted the film NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO). Speaking of this performance, Ka Fai's sacrifice was the greatest. Before the shoot Ka Fai spent a half a year on a hellish weight loss training. At its peak he was only a little over 110 pounds and his waist was 22 inches. He remembered that he has not been this thin since he was 15 and admitted that he thought about quitting during the training, but his wife encouraged him. "Either you don't play, if you do you have to play all out!" Ka Fai after hearing what his wife said agreed wholeheartedly. Ka Fai in order to perform well in this film turned down other jobs. He thought that this film was the most extravagant because in general only Hollywood productions would spent half a year to prepare, but he in turned suffered a lot of losses. He said, "I turned down 200 to 300 million in film salary, haha!" This time Ka Fai's character was very dark. In order to get into character, during the breaks on the set he would only sit quietly. Others seemed to be afraid of him. In addition he played a criminal, generally he would not join the actors who played the police and felt very lonely. Did he have any difficulty leaving the character? Ka Fai said no, since he has been acting for several decades. Kay in the film play a cop. In one scene Ka Fai put a plastic bag over her head and almost suffocated her. She personally performed that scene. Yet for different angles, Kay performed over 20 times and Ka Fai felt very sorry. Kay even injured her arms on the glass on the ground. After she got her her son saw all the blood on her and was very scared. She could only think of an excuse to fool her son to keep him from worrying. Ka Fai also pointed out that when his daughter saw his poster she asked him why he had to hold a gun. * (2012/03/01) Raymond Wong Pak Ming and Teddy Robin Kwan yesterday attended Hong Kong Film New Action event. As one of the show business commission member Wong Pak Ming was asked about Chief Executive candidate Henry Tang Ying-Yen's recent troubles. He said that before that he already nominated him. He thought that everyone had advantages and flaws, no one was perfect. He thought he had more advantages than flaws. Wong Pak Ming admitted that now he still leans toward supporting Tang Ying=Yen because among the candidates he was more supportive of show business. Earlier when the government supported the 300 million film development fund, they met at Mr. Tang's home. Have other candidates campaigned with him? Wong Pak Ming admitted that no one contacted him and he would not contact them. His decision would be primary. Teddy Robin said that he did not know how to discuss politics or religion. He was not in the commission so he did not want to say much. Earlier he won a Best Actor award in Australia with MERRY GO ROUND (DUNG FUNG POR), Teddy Robin said that now he has more choices. However he would not randomly make movies. Now he mainly is a producer as he has three scripts in preparation. * (2012/03/01) LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING) at the end of March will be released. Both leads Shawn Yue Man Lok and Miriam Yeung Chin Wa looked forward to it very much. The pregnant Yeung Chin Wa stated that on March 21 she definitely will "apply" to participate in the premiere with her husband. Chin Wa in the film wore a revealing black dress, which Lok Jai joked that he would never imagine Chin Wa would wear. In this scene Chin Wa met with her old flame Lok Jai. He guessed that she would wear a low cut dress but it was a back baring dress that attracted his eyeballs. This dress was Chin Wa's own. She said that the team arranged many for her to try but she thought that Chun Giu wanted more, as she should be sexy yet not too deliberate. She said, "I don't want to bare my chest since there isn't much to see. So I brought my own dress. Lok Jai's reaction proved that my decision was right!" During the shoot they were very focused, except the Spanish dishes on the table distracted him. Chin Wa and Lok Jai could not help themselves as they sat down and ate whenever the shoot stopped. The team had to keep ordering to fill in the food that constantly disappeared in extreme speed. In addition, when they shot in Beijing in one scene Chi Ming went out late with his co-workers; that day the director arranged for 200 extras, most of them were present because they liked director Pang Ho Cheung and knew that Yue Man Lok would be there when they automatically applied. They were very focused during the shoot. Instead Lok Jai who felt that he was no longer young was numb to going out at night. As for Chin Wa who did not go out at night still had fun because she could work while applying a facial mask. In one scene Chin Wa and her friends chatted while they applied facial masks and ate. [ BLAH OF THE WEEK ] Columns, Reviews, Interviews 1. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 4 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD DEANIE IP, NICK CHEUNG CRY, "SAVE HONG KONG FILM" The days in which we all watched Hong Kong film together truly are missed. As the Taiwan storm strikes Hong Kong, not only bubble tea invades Hong Kong but Taiwan youth film YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE even knocks down our Stephen Chow Sing Chi's KUNG FU HUSTLE Chinese film box office record. Seven time Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai after logical analysis comes to a conclusion. "It's a timing issue." Venice Best Actress Deanie Ip Tak Han however is brutally honest. "I rarely watch Hong Kong film! When I buy a ticket to watch a movie, it takes time and money. Of course I have to get something out of it, if it's bad why should I watch it." She is so uniquely direct that even you want to "like" her. At this moment, to quote Ken Choi Fung Wa, "The flash of glory doesn't mean forever". Hong Kong film still needs to work hard! Winning seven Best Actor awards with BEAST STALKER (JING YUN), Cheung Ka Fai runs into A SIMPLE LIFE (TOH JEH)'s Venice International Film Festival Best Actress Ip Tak Han. This time they are not talking casually, as the topic is the future of Hong Kong film. Thus Cheung Ka Fai who likes to joke around becomes serious, while the serious Sister Deanie remains serious. Everything starts with the Taiwan hit film YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE. Sister Deanie says that she has not seen YOU. She stresses that she has bought the official DVD and saw the production special. She feels that it is not her cup of tea. Her first words are, "I don't agree that a good box office performance means a good movie. Do you think THE DREAM OF RED CHAMBER or DRAGON TIGER PANTHER sells better?" Ka Fai takes the baton and says, "Of course DRAGON TIGER PANTHER! Recently there is HOT DOG." Then everyone seem to have seen a homerun as they crack up and cheer! Sister Deanie clears her throat then says, "Actually, then are you saying DRAGON TIGER PANTHER is good? A hit doesn't mean thriving, I feel more clarification is needed." Forgotten Subjects Cheung Ka Fai also does not buy a ticket because he wants to see YOU. He says, "I have to pay attention to the market, so I keep watching movies. This is one of the movies that I have seen." He feels that the success of YOU is only timing created. He says, "That type of school age nostalgia touches many viewers, which is undeniable. I am not apologizing for Hong Kong people. Actually I feel this type of movies has been made after the 80s in Hong Kong. YOU and 3 IDIOTS may be subjects that we have already forgotten, felt that could not make money and had no commercial value. If 3 IDIOTS isn't Indian but with Hong Kong actors would anyone see it? A student nostalgia film like YOU, if the Taiwanese didn't start first, would anyone in Hong Kong be willing to make it? Hong Kong definitely can make the aforementioned subjects, the issue is a benefit problem and a market problem." A SIMPLE LIFE has not been released in Hong Kong but has already swept overseas film festivals, which Sister Deanie never expects. Coming home with success, the audience is looking forward to it so the box office definitely has guarantee. Ka Fai says, "Like A SIMPLE LIFE now of course you would say it's good! At first no one fought to invest or support you, it's a changing of the times that makes everyone abandon and forget many angles." Staring at Ka Fai, Sister Deanie nods and giggles. Small Market, Plenty of Restrictions Actors' and investors' thinking always oppose each other. Sister Deanie adds, "Investors' angles and values are different. They feel either they have to walk the red carpet or they have to have a big hit. They wouldn't care what kind of movie it is, often times it is like that. We as actors are more aesthetic, more ideal, investors want to chop a big tree with a dagger. In the end nothing works without money. We can only work hard, but we may not be successful. However if we don't work hard we definitely won't succeed." Hong Kong film has fallen and cannot get back up, which has a lot to do with the market. Sister Deanie hits the nail right on its head. "How many million people does Hong Kong have! It is the market problem again. Even if you have the subject you don't have the ability to support the subject. No one overseas would buy your movies anymore. The movies are cheap. When the market is small you can't make the subject if you have one. Investors would feel it is dangerous. If you tell them they would beat you up first, then curse you out with foul language." Blames Hong Kong Government For Neglect The government's neglect of the Hong Kong film industry is also one of the reasons that affect Hong Kong film quality. Sister Deanie rages on as she talks, as she even angers Cheung Ka Fai across from her. She says, "Making a movie in Hong Kong has plenty of restrictions. If you say NIGHTFALL (DAI JUI BO) doesn't have Cheung Ka Fai, if a scene has to be shot at the airport you don't get to! There is no money. Yet the screenwriter blatantly says that in the scene the leads have to say goodbye at the airport. They sneak around and find a random place without anyone charging protection money and shoot it first. They are both goodbyes. Isn't it completely twisted around and the effect that it should have is gone." For New Films, Creating Characters With Efforts Venice Best Actress Ip Tak Han and seven time Best Actor Cheung Ka Fai have brighten Hong Kong film but cannot bring it back from the dead. However they are still full of hope for this dream factory. A SIMPLE LIFE and NIGHFALL both will open this month. From their movies, everyone can sense their passion for film. A SIMPLE LIFE Starts With Costumes Sweeping numerous major awards, A SIMPLE LIFE starts with a bang. Yesterday's cause is today's effect. Sister Deanie says, "At my age, I don't have too many roles to choose from. However I have my persistence. Back then Ann (Hui On Wa) asked someone to check on me to see if I was crazy. After reading several scenes I thought this film was very French, then I had to see if the director and I could work. I had to consider it for a month before taking it." Sister Deanie is serious. She feels smoking is hazardous to her health. If she can smell smoke within three steps she would immediately bust out yelling, not to mention her persistence for film. She says, "Being serious isn't wrong, being serious is a joy. I wish people would teach me how to be even more serious. I am like that." For a movie, she not only visited two retired maids who reside at the senior home long term but the costume also provided her with a lot of ideas. She says, "Clothing is very representative of someone, I have been in contact with my maids. I know that their sleeves and pant legs wouldn't be long, which would be inconvenient at work. I would give suggestions on make up and hairstyle too, I would tell them what hairstyle would make me younger. I tried to coordinate with the character as much as I could." Seven Best Actor awards are evidence of substance, but Cheung Ka Fai does not dare to be satisfied with his current status. He is willing to accept even more challenges and hone his acting. In NIGHTFALL, he plays a rapist who is released from prison after 20 years. In order to be even more convincing, he accepts a hellish training. "This time the script had room for me to create a character image. I spent half a year to drop to 100 and some pounds. Everyday I ate food that wasn't fit for human, without salt, grease or carbohydrate. Monday Wednesday Friday I worked out at the machines and Tuesday Thursday and Saturday I ran." Cheung Ka Fai Runs Like Mad To Lose Weight Ka Fai continues, "I remember on the Lunar 2nd I ran from Causeway Bay to Pok Fu Lam. Pedestrians who saw me thought I was mad, in the middle I thought about quitting. Actually being thin wasn't hard, being thin yet big is. So I am the happiest about being able to endure until the end to achieve the ideal result. It's a result that can scare people, he is so thin that he seems to be sick, his eyes are a little lost, like a dangerous character with tendency for violence." Winning film's highest honor, Ip Tak Han and Ka Fai's serious attitude and strong belief are conceivably the keys to their success. - YEUNG KIT MAN 2. MING PAO DAILY, MARCH 4 2012, FILM WORDS LOVE IS NOT BLIND RESEMBLES GO LALA GO This week has two Chinese films, one happy and one sad. The low budget romantic comedy LOVE IS NOT BLIND last year created the Mainland box office miracle of over 300 million RMB, the story actually is similar to the hit television series and hit film GO LALA GO and also under the influence of the U.S. film 500 DAYS OF SUMMER. Bai Baihe played a female wedding company employee under the impact of a heartache has a happy feud with "jerk" co-worker Wen Zhang. Teng Huatao directed this film with a lot of energy, the lead actress is mischievous and humorous, the lead actor is sharp and fun. The conventional entertainment value is decent. I feel it is better than the Xu Jinglei directed and starred film GO LALA GO. (two and a half out of five stars) Obviously, in recent years Mainland and Taiwan modern romantic comedy films are more and more mature and flexible. The elegant special packages are still popular in the Mainland; on the other hand Hong Kong comedy films are often more nostalgic than fresh, very few are truly happy. The Barbara Wong Chun Chun directed, Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui written THE ALLURE OF TEARS (KING SING JI LUI) is blatantly tear jerking melodrama, unlike their romantic comedy two years ago, BREAK UP CLUB (FUN SAU SHUET OI NEI) that is both cute and detailed emotionally. THE ALLURE OF TEARS: Tragic Effort The Hong Kong and Mainland film stars starred, primarily shot in the Mainland THE ALLURE OF TEARS actually has a "terminal idea" in all three stories. Shot with effort, the film's Hong Kong style and Mainland style do not mesh well though. In addition I am very afraid of terminal illness tragedy, so it does not fit my taste. The first tear is the romance of Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting) and Zhou Dongyu's terminally ill couple; the second tear featured Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) and others as deaf, down on his luck music academy alumni who hold a concert to save the school; the third tear had Joe Chen Qiao-En and Dou Xiao as a poor couple in a bitter romance. When they get rich and reunite they met a twist of fate. (two out of five stars) - SHEK KEI 3. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 3 2012, ELECTRIC FILM ROAD LOVE IS NOT BLIND: SWELLING NARROWNESS WEN ZHANG BECOMES HEARTWARMING Undeniably Mainland films currently have already entered the big film era, with hundred of millions in production budgets and even blind faith in big star line up as box office guarantee. In addition all films are costume. All have already become parts of the Chinese hit film formula. Yet last year a Mainland modern film LOVE IS NOT BLIND with less than 9 million RMB budget made over 300 million at the box office, breaking a variety of Chinese film formula fallacy. Its level of amazement could rival YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE. Director Teng Huatao hopes with this type of small budget productions for Chinese film to be closer to the general public and return to the foundation of people relating to film because it touches their hearts. Director Teng Huatao produced the television series DWELLING NARROWNESS, this type of work that reflects reality and are close to the average person. This time with LOVE IS NOT BLIND he uses old partner Wen Zhang and Bai Baihe as the leads. The production budget is even less than less with less than 9 million RMB. However the performance surprises professionals who blindly believe in big productions and big name actors. The director believes that LOVE's success is related to the film being able to return to the basic. He said, "The story in the film happens in reality, with most city people's background. These people are mostly reflections of this city's changes, which truly is the film's basic nature and theme that touch most people. Most current Chinese films are all in costume with thousands of soldiers and horses, with very little to do with our lives and we can't relate to them. City film's advantage is it won't be too far from reality." City People Can Relate Teng Huatao admits that now Mainland film people are too focused on the star system and disagrees with this type of big production with well known actor film selling formula. He says, "How many big stars are there, after all they are always (Leon) Lai Ming, Fan Bingbing. I think the audience wants freshness. I make this type of small films to provide them with another choice. Of course the original internet story's dialogue is also its reason for success, very authentic and with shades of most city people. Being relatable is where film is attractive. Like YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE, LOVE captures young city people's mentality and changes. Historical films are good too, but the best would be to let the audience think. Flocking to make movies isn't a good thing, you can fool the audience once or twice but you can't always treat them like idiots!" Stars Are Gods Teng Huatao feels that since Zhang Yimou's HERO, Mainland film professionals never get tired of big production films and turn them into mainstream movies. He feels that one or two movies of this type in some slots are reasonable, otherwise the audience would only get tired of them. In addition, he feels finding suitable actors is more practical than big stars. "Many people can act, the director's responsibility is to find the right actor to play the right role. (Vicki) Zhao Wei, Zhou Xun and (Andy) Lau Tak Wa are all great actors, but they are not gods. They can't play all the characters." The fact is the success of a movie can have many reasons, the failure of one only has one -- poor box office. With a legend that successfully creates 300 million RMB at the box office, he does not lack investors who follow the fame. However the director only likes to make his own subjects. He says, "Money to me isn't very important, enough is fine. I only like to make heart warming movies with my own team. Making these movies also won't hurt myself, since city movies don't cost very much anyway." Sharp Dialogues Touches Wen Zhang Now 27 years old, Wen Zhang has a lot of potential, from an autistic youth, JOURNEY TO THE WEST's the Venerable Tang Monk, to the sissy Wang in LOVE IS NOT BLIND that made a mad 300 million RMB in the Mainland he has his own uniqueness. In recent years Mainland productions undoubtedly have reached the big production era with over hundreds of millions in production budgets. Wen Zhang with this less than 9 million small budget film breaks this fallacy. The Audience Values Word Of Mouth Wen Zhang says that LOVE freshly provided another choice to the Mainland audience. "Actually now the audience has quality. When they watch movies they don't care without the production si big or small, they mainly care whether they are entertaining or not, the word of mouth is good or not. They are not as blind as they used to and flock to the movies as soon as they see big stars." He says that instead of making so-called big films that are empty, making some meaningful small productions are more comfortable. Wen Zhang says that he has read the original, the sharp dialogues that leaves him not knowing whether to laugh or to cry attract him. "This originally is a internet novel, the dialogues in the story move me as they are very sincere. The film has to have this sincere feeling." Synopsis: Heartbreaking New Start LOVE IS NOT BLIND starts with the 27 year old Huang Xiaoxian who sees her boyfriend with her good friends and realizes that her heartbreak has begun. Drastic Change On the first day of her heartbreak, she as a wedding planner has to plan a wedding for a new couple. The Hong Kong woman possessed bride to be has hundreds of unreasonable requests, and her partner Wang Yiyang seems to gay and hard to work with due to his vicious mouth. Thinking she is dead for sure because of them, she never expects that whenever the weak appears, friends of justice would appear. Wang Yiyang holds back on his usual viciousness and becomes very friendly, which makes Huang Xiaoxian feel warm as their incompatible hearts gradually come together. - HO WING NING 4. APPLE DAILY, MARCH 3 2012, SHOW BUSINESS 360 RAYMOND LAM AGAIN CHOK INTO GOLDEN PLUM, COSTUME AND MODERN CECILIA CHEUNG COMPETE FOR ROTTEN FILM QUEEN Today I very reluctant watch all the rotten films, after which I spend 15 minutes to savor them and discover that rotten films are even more rotten than usual. Then I spent another 10 minutes to cool down and write the report. These short 30 minutes are probably when my thinking is at its most stable today. Rotten films have shown me the worst today. I think I find the answer, but......readers still have their say. This paper entertainment page's the 7th Golden Plum Poll has arrived, everyone today can vote online. (http://jp.nextmedia.com/goldenplum) to select their worst of rotten films. The results will be unveiled on the Apple Entertainment page on the eve of the Hong Kong Film Award (April 14). Actually what I feel is the most rotten film may not be the most rotten, because everyone has to agree that it is the most rotten to count. Most Rotten Actress Cecilia Cheung Pak Chi: Superficial And Camera Mugging LEGENDARY AMAZONS (YEUNG MOON NUI JEUNG JI KWUN LING YU SAN) Among the Yang family of widowed warriors, to stand out from a dozen or so female characters superficiality may be a way. Pak Chi whether losing a husband, fighting a war or disciplining her son would rise her eyebrows, pop out her eyes and veins. Mu Guiying's faithfulness to her husband has already turned into THE LION ROARS (NGOR GA YAU YUT JET HOR DUNG SI)'s S and M relationship, undoubtedly making this film several times more rotten. Cecilia Cheung: Plastic Eyebrow Rise TREASURE HUNT (MO GA JI BO) She is a Best Actor no matter what. Pak Chi used to cry and go crazy on cue on the silver screen, unfortunately her comeback has been beyond brutal. No matter how she tries her best to play the kind wife and gentle mother, the strong director or the tender young wife, Pak Chi always seems to be Villain Kin possessed. Raising her left eyebrow, she is plastic throughout the entire film with raising and lowering brow and leaves the audience frowning. Maybe she has spent too much time with her children, Pak Chi gradually is treating the audience like children. Theresa Fu: Petty Girl Next Door BEACH SPIKE (YIT LONG KAU OI JIN) Theresa Fu Wing is not working on her first movie, but her acting remains no more mature than new comers: forced grinning for joy, raising her eyebrows for anger, pouting for being serious. Then again Fu Wing cannot be blamed for not fully acting. Seeing her boyfriend at the time Law Chung Him hugging and kissing Chrissie Chau Sau Na whether she has to be "intimate" with Lam Chi Sin, how can she not be angry! The most outrageous is everyone appears in a bikini but she adds a tee! Vonnie Lui: Yin Yang Imbalance 3D SEX AND ZEN: EXTREME ECSTASY (3D YUK PO TUEN ji GIK LOK BO GAM) Back then Lui Goddess described in detail how Hiro Hayama conquers her and how she bares all, she left Hong Kong men with endless fantasy. No one expected the film to be even more falsely advertised than counterfeits. The bare all actually was topless for two seconds, she lied so badly that no one knew what her intention was. Her action scenes were just waving around a dildo. As a hermaphrodite she even seduced Hiro Hayama in the tone of an old ox. All the self reference as an old man drove people mad. Zhang Xinyu: Plastic Goddess SUMMER LOVE (LUEN HA LUEN HA LUEN LUEN HA) Domestically produced goddess gave a perfect interpretation of her flower vase role, so rotten that it scattered all over the floor. In order to maintain the all weather "plastic look" her facial expression was limited as much as possible. Originally she was paired with Alex Fong Lik Sun, but during romantic scenes she put up an arrogant look. Was she looking down on Siu Fong? Yet when she heard her lover's rotten gag, "You don't sing K(araoke)!" she immediately was all smiles. That was truly the hardest to take. Most Rotten Actor Law Chung Him: Unspeakable BEACH SPIKE (YIT LONG KAU OI JIN) Him Jai is handsome and has large pecs, willing to suffer and take risks he has quite a future. Yet he ran into a rotten script and a rotten director. Fame depends on luck. The director messed up and asked him to play a rich kid who came back from studying overseas. With English and French lines he had to "spit" out words as if he stammered, which was painful for both him and the audience. Honestly, asking Him Jai to remember the pronunciation was already hard enough, not to mention keeping acting in mind! Raymond Wong: Self Loving Uncle MAGIC TO WIN (HOI SUM MOR FAT) The film industry's Raymond Wong Pak Ming is like the music industry's Twins, their performance has remained the same over the years. As a magical professor his costume was a dup of HARRY POTTER and his name was Hong Sum Gwai. That's right, he was still playing HAPPY GHOST (HOI SUM GWAI). The film' selling points were Karena Ng Chin Yu and Wu Chun, yet Wong Pak Ming's role had a lot of screen time. He turned from Pedestrian A to Lead A. Wong Pak Ming inevitably loved himself too much. William Chan Wai Ting: All Out Bed Scene HI, FIDELITY (CHOOK GWAI DIK NUI YUN) Breaking into the silver screen from the music scene, William Chan Wai Ting in the film worked both sexes as he played gigolo brothers who linger between Pat Ha Man Jik and Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui. To quote Brother Tat, "A lot of acting potential on display." Yet his acting ability in the film could only be used in the sack. Chan Wai Ting got more and more lost as he played the emotional scenes. Finally even he could not tell who he was playing. Alex Fong Lik Sun: Hard To Tell Between Laughing and Crying SUMMER LOVE (LUEN HA LUEN HA LUEN LUEN HA) Golden Plum frequent guest Alex Fong Lik Sun continued to use his unique "method acting" to perform, as he automatically stood stiffly all the time and his movement was steady. His reading like delivery lacked life, but when he kissed Zhang Xinyu his passion. He had an emotional scene in which he cried over a misunderstanding with Goddess. The look on his face could turn into either laughter or tears, which was more than hard to take. Raymond Lam: Waste Of Electricity THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE (BAK SEH CHUEN SHUET) Golden Plum double Best Actor chok king Raymond Lam Fung as the loving Hui Sin originally was not rotten, the problem was at any time he could be "little butler" possessed. Every time he was frightened he always went to his trademark trick -- spread his arms and move back three paces. It's not the 80s, would the audience accept this type of interpretation method for the lonely heart romance? Truly his all chok out loving eyes went to waste. THE MOST ROTTEN DIRECTOR/FILM Wilson Chin: Girls Galore SUMMER LOVE The rotten title reduced the desire to go to a movie, SUMMER was another example. At the moment that you said that almost foul film title to the ticket seller, you were already destined for discrimination. I might be biased, but the absurd story, the dull pace, negative comedy and the cast's zero emotion performance I had to dislike. People still went to see something so rotten completely because of the girls selling their bodies in support, which was also where Director Chin's ability lay. Wong Jing: Loose And Absurd MEN SUDDENLY IN LOVE (MAN NAM GWUN SEI DUI) Thoroughly a Wong Jing style big pile up absurdity with Best Actor Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Chapman To Man Jat's comedy, pseudo models' flesh peddling, all the commercial elements were fully calculated. Unfortunately the loose script was beyond brutally rotten. The five main pairs each performed on their own and had no chemistry to speak of. If their stories were separated, the film would only need 20 minutes to tell all the stories. Tony Tang Tong Ming: Thrown Together Story BEACH SPIKE In Hong Kong where real estate domination reigned, did anyone feel the beach use right would be decided with a match? The ridiculous script was filled with plenty of bones to pick. You watched beach volleyball for girls! With all the boobs, who cared how poorly they played? The forced match was expendable, the girls did not give any attractive performance, the romantic scenes were contrived. With no boob, no love, no battle, only the audience's anger raged on. Frankie Chan Fun Kei: Mixed Up Time and Space LEGENDARY AMAZONS Chan Fun Kei demonstrated how to make a "hea" history film. The Song Dynasty's Yang Clan Warriors perhaps had a time machine and went to the Ming Dynasy for pepper to battle the Western Xia army. Sheh Taijun could even use a telescope to observe the battle. The ladies of the Yang Clan screamed, "I want to fight!" Not only did they lack patriotism but also gave people the impression that they played too many online games and formed a group to further fight monsters. Jim Chim, Lee Kung Lok: Open Strong Finish Weak MICROSEX OFFICE (CHIU SING BAN GUNG SUT) Jim Sir was ambitious as he attempted to adapt his play to the silver screen. He had guts but aimed low, resulting in the film resembling neither a film not a play. No one could grow tired of office dirty jokes, only the rotten gags had beginnings and no ends. The ending was even a disaster. Nonsensical story and self amusing actors kept dragging on, making a strong opening but a weak ending. What a waste. THE MOST ROTTEN SCENE LEGENDARY AMAZONS: Hammer To The Head In the trailer, Pak Chi thoroughly displayed her vicious style. With both hands on the hammer she grind her teeth and rammed it into the enemy general's head. In two seconds the head exploded into a bloody mess. Pak Chi's thoroughly brutal look elevated anger beyond the breaking point. If children saw this scene they definitely would have negative childhood memories. Lucas should be nice and listen to his mother...... BEACH SPIKE: Indoor Beach Volleyball OK, with beach volleyball everyone expects sunshine, hot girls and pretty beach, not a gladiator fight in a dark dungeon. Why would the final match be indoors and suffer from severe lack of light, making the goddesses repeatedly taking the ball to the face. They even had to have close up shots, poor piggies! What did the director have in mind? Honestly, if I had to watch someone taking the ball to the face, I would rather watch Law Chung Him! TREASURE HUNT: Backyard Disaster Laughter was the real priceless treasure. The audience's laughter broke through the snoring almost 30 minutes into the film, and the laughter was from ridiculing the appearance of "burning backyard" rotten gag that was beyond old school. Joe Cheng kept performing the disaster on the rear, with fire, sea urchin, morning star, cactus then complained "My pummelo again!" Was this the sorrow of the audience or the filmmaker? THE SORCERER AND THE WHITE SNAKE: Scissoring Snakes Joey Wang Cho Yi and Maggie Cheung Man Yu as snake fairies were eager to please, Eva Huang Shengyi and Charlene Choi Cheuk Hei were powerless to follow suit. Relying on being sexy was understandable. Ah Sa was blessed with giant chest and she worked hard to interpret the snake's movements, as she often rolled her shoulders and stuck out her tongue. Then on Shengyi's back she put her giant chest, the lesbian flavor was strong. Their tails coiled together, actually Hui Sin was the real third party. MR. AND MRS. INCREDIBLE: STINKS UP TO HIGH HEAVENS Louis Koo Tin Lok and Sandra Ng Kwan Yu's encounter on the roof of the Forbidden City was romantic under the noble Photoshop moon, flying over roof and walking on walls. Such poetic scenery however turned into live action SUPER MARIO BROTHERS, as they sped up and jump. The director even had the gall to play the SUPER MARIO theme......isn't the gag a little too low? - DAI MAN NEI [ In Production Now/Soon ] NATURAL BORN LOVERS Can : Tin Sun Oi Ching Kong Lit : Natural Born Love Maniac d. Once heavily favored by the Emperor, the Guillotines are deemed expendable once Emperor Qian Long ascends to the throne and adopts Western ideas and technology. To consolidate his power under a new regime, the Emperor continues to use the Guillotines to persecute the conquered Han Chinese in a reign of terror and oppression. Led by master fighter Leng, the top ranked guillotine squad consists of five young warriors: Mu, San, Tai, Hutu and Buka. Serving the Qing Court unquestioningly, they have never failed in 348 missions to eliminate their targets. But their success has made them arrogant and complacent. Their next mission is to eliminate Wolf and his Shepherd gang. During the operation, the squad manages to trap Wolf. Just as they are about to execute him, the squad commander orders that he be captured alive. He secretly plans to use Wolf as a pawn in his bid for power. Not every love story is a fairy tale. After a dramatic wedding feast, unusual love stories unfold towards unexpected endings: a brother and sister in love caught by the mother, a married painter falls for his young life drawing model of same sex, an intimacy between a dance school teacher and his wealthy but senior student, a lesbian couple of which one has role-play paranoid, a dreadful love triangle ending with the girl being beheaded… "Love Actually…Sucks!" celebrates love that no one care but real, for life is love, love as it is. [ PHILADELPHIA QFEST ] Taking inspiration from six different court cases involving crimes of the heart, Scud examines the intense, often self-destructive sexual longings among several well-to-do young Hong Kong residents – gay, lesbian and straight. The film opens with the most scandalous wedding reception ever put on film: a young couple’s marriage ends (in the most dramatic fashion) before it begins. There is the 30-ish married gym instructor who trolls the active bathroom scene for young flesh; a lesbian couple with roleplay issues; a dance instructor who becomes the object of attraction to his much older student; a married painter who falls for his male model; a brother and sister who take family togetherness a bit too literally; and a young man who becomes increasingly deranged until he takes his love interest problems into his own hands. In Scud’s world, every love story is a fairy tale – but here the stories are sexual and troubling. Overall, a complex, sensual and compelling film. Ever since Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire sang “It’s a Fine Romance” in 1936’s Swing Time, movies have been bowing down to the power of love. Unfortunately, Hollywood just doesn’t make romantic comedies the way they used to and these days if you’re looking for love in an American movie, you’re looking for it in all the wrong places. Thank Aphrodite for Korea. Ever since My Sassy Girl broke box office records in 2001, the Korean film industry has been making some of the funniest, most outrageously swoony movie romances, and for this series we’ve picked three of the best. Tuesday, APRIL 10, 2012 @ 7pm PETTY ROMANCE (2010, 118 minutes) A word-of-mouth hit in 2010, this romance is set in the world of manhwa (Korean comic books), and the couple at the center of the story have chemistry to burn. TV star Lee Seon-Gyun is a struggling manhwa artist who enters a competition with a massive cash prize. To raise his chances of winning, he hires a sex advice columnist, Choi Gang-Heui (star of the breakout hit, My Scary Girl), to write his erotic comic. Little does he know that she plagiarized her column from the Kama Sutra and the Kinsey Report because her ideas about sex are a bit…vague, to put it kindly. PETTY ROMANCE been winning hearts and minds on the film festival circuit for a year and it’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Tuesday, March 27, 2012 @ 7pm MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT (2009, 112 minutes) Opening at number one, and staying in the box office top ten for nine straight weeks, MY GIRLFRIEND IS AN AGENT is the Korean version of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Kim Ha-Neul gets dumped by her boyfriend, Kang Ji-Hwan, because she’s never around. Actually, she’s a spy. Three years later, he runs into her again, only now he’s also joined the intelligence service too, albeit in a different department. Now they both have undercover identities they both have to keep hidden and they’ve got secret missions they both have to fulfill, while working out the trauma of their past relationship. Full of high-speed chases and plenty of glossy gunplay, it’s easy to see why a movie this fast on its feet is already slated for a Bollywood remake. Tuesday, March 13, 2012 @ 7pm CYRANO AGENCY (2010, 117 minutes) The biggest romantic hit of 2010 (grossing only slightly less than Harry Potter and the Proper Noun: Part 1) this big budget romantic comedy won “Best Screenplay” and its star, Lee Min-Jung (Boys Over Flowers) won a truckload of “Best New Actress” awards. Full of irreconcilable differences, beautiful stars and ridiculous, laugh-out-loud plot twists, it’s all about the Cyrano Agency, a matchmaking service that sets up elaborate, Mission Impossible-style scenarios to help their clients win the man (or woman) of their dreams. Now, their 100% success rate is in danger because a sad sack hedge fund manager wants to date a free spirited gal who just happens to be the head of the Cyrano Agency’s ex.
