S3BL100: my representative bus before retirement

S3BL100 is my first representative bus. It is not only the 100th 11m Leyland Olympian of KMB, but it is also one of the five Cummins-engined demonstrators in Hong Kong. Its lower deck interior is so spacious that it can carry 50 standees. Because of its uniqueness, I have chosen it as my first representative bus.

The bus first registered in Hong Kong on the 13th November 1986, and it had served a lot of different routes. Before its retirement, it was scheduled for route 14B, a route running between Ngau Tau Kok and Lam Tin (Kwong Tin Estate). It was the first and also the last Cummins-engined spacious Leyland Olympian to run route 92. In fact, most bus enthusiasts state that S3BL100 is one of the most powerful Leyland Olympians in KMB.

However, all heros will come across death one day. Due to KMB's policy to withdraw 11m buses massively in 2002, many Leyland Olympians were unable to survive, and nor was S3BL100. After its last day service on route 70X on 20th November 2002, it withdrew from service and it is now parking at Kai Tak Depot.

In memory of my favourite bus, I have written this feature section which cosists of 6 photos. All of them are taken on 21/08/2002. Please click to enlarge.
