| In The railway development study 1994, the govenment of Hong Kong found out that the population of Tuen Mun and Yuen Long has been growing quite rapidly. The highway that links that area to the central area of Hong Kong is quite congested. The government decided to build a railway that starts at west Kowloon and ends in Tuen Mun via Yuen Long. This railway is mostly above ground on overhead viaducts in the areas of Tuen Mun and Yuen Long. In the West Kowloon area it is underground. This railway is scheduled to be opened in autumn 2003.much of it's viaducts are completed along with the stations. Some corrections and expansions are to be made to the existing Light Rail system. This is another big development among Hong Kong. The station Nam Cheong and Mei Foo will link the existing MTR railway network. All stations are equipped with washroom facilities, lifts and escalators and special needs passageways. |
