First Times
Part I
The sun shines through the many leaves on the trees that spring has brought. Many lovers walk hand in hand, children play in the parks gaily and the birds hum merrily. Cherry blossom season was long gone, but spring had remained enchanting people with good weather and sunshine. The air was exquisitely fresh, flowers were in bloom and bees were buzzing. In a few more weeks summer will be here. Hiei is very excited cause thats his favorite type of weather. He walks hand in hand with Kurama down the street. No one looks at them funny they just suppose that Kuramas baby sitting a little boy. Kurama grins cheerfully as he looks at Hiei gobble down his strawberry ice cream.
"Hmm I have to admit that this human food is good. Can I have this every night from now on?" asked Hiei as he looked at Kurama with expectant eyes.
Kurama looked down at his boyfriend and smiled, how could he ever deny Hiei anything. He nodded and Hiei continued to lick the cold substance. Kuramas mind began to imagine Hiei licking something else when he bumped into someone as he turned the corner.
"I'm sorry," he said as bowed.
"Shuiichi-san," he heard a familiar voice say. He looked up and it was his mother.
"Mother?" he asked in an incredulous tone. He looked around for Hiei. He finally spotted him on the floor with most of the ice cream all over his face and coat. He had a nasty growl on his face. Kurama knew that Hiei was going to let his mother have it.
"Oh Im so sorry young man," said Shiori as she and Kurama helped Hiei up. He glared at her.
"Oh Hiei Im so sorry," apologized Kurama as he noticed the death glare in his lovers eyes.
"Is this little boy your friend?" asked Shiori.
"Little boy? You bit" Kurama covered Hieis mouth and introduced him. "This is my friend Hiei."
"Oh hello there. Youre so cute. Im so sorry about your coat. You must come to our house so that I can wash your clothes," she said cheerfully and dragged him down the street. Hiei looked back at Kurama with pleading eyes. This human woman thought that he was ten years old. Which is very far from the truth. Kurama ran and caught up with his mother. He urged her to let go of Hieis hand and explained that he was his age despite his stature. Shiori apologize and let go of his hand. She lent Hiei her handkerchief so that he could wipe his face. He was still mad at her though.
They reached Kuramas home, Hiei felt weird because hed never used the front door to get into it before. Shiori urged Hiei out of his black cloak which he gave up reluctantly. "Oh arent you hot in this thing? I mean its almost summer," she remarked as she put in the washing machine.
Hiei said nothing.
Kurama stood by in awe. He wanted his mother to meet Hiei but he didnt think that it would happen so soon.
"What your name?"
"Hiei," replied Hiei dryly as he looked up at her.
"Oh dear whats wrong with your eyes? Do you have allergies? Theyre all red!" exclaimed Shiori.
"" Hiei couldnt get a word out when Kurama intervened.
"Hes blind mother," whispered Kurama.
"What?! Kurama! Stupid! Im not blind!" shouted Hiei.
"Hee hee hee, no their just contact lenses," said Kurama as sweat drops covered his face.
"Oh, you young people today. Youre such a cute boy. Whats this Kurama business? Is that some sort of nick name Shuiichi?" asked Shiori as she pinched Hieis cheek.
"Cute?" he said in an annoyed tone.
"Oh thats just what Hiei calls me," responded Kurama as another sweat drop formed over his head.
Hiei was very much displeased, this human had robbed him of his ice cream and had not offered him anything. He looked around the house, he had never been in this part before of Kurama's home before. The living room was simple and minimalist with a delicate feminine touch. The room was adorned with many different types of roses making smell like a garden. Hiei sniffed the delicious air as sun beams shown through the windows and curtains and danced on the wooden floor. Hiei continued to look around curiously in silence. Kurama observed him with loving eyes.
"Shuiichi when did you two meet?"
"Well, um when you were ill," said Kurama.
"Oh."
"Yes, Hiei helped me through the tough time," he said as he remembered their heist.
"Oh thats so nice. You should have introduced him to me earlier. Do you go to my sons school?"
"No," intervened Kurama. "Hes not from around here."
"Oh where are you from?"
"Im from the Makai," responded Hiei.
"Ive never heard of that part of Japan. Where is that exactly?"
Hiei was about to tell her when Kurama interrupted once again.
"Its in the Chubu region."
"Really? Youve traveled far. Do you have family here?"
Hiei wanted to say yes but shook his head and said, "No."
"Where are you staying?"
"Um"
"Ah with Yusuke," said Kurama.
"Oh yes that boy. Well youre welcome to spend the night here. Cause its already getting dark. Who knows what dangers lurk in Tokyos streets for out of towners."
Hiei almost laughed out loud at the thought on one of those petty human delinquents trying something on him. But Kuramas eyes illuminated with joy and without knowing he said, "He can stay in my room, there is plenty of space."
"Of course. Too bad we dont have a guest room."
"Really kaasan itll be fine," said Kurama giddily. Hiei looked at them both in awe.
Shiori proceeded to prepare their dinner as the sun was setting. She spent about an hour in the kitchen and thought about how it had been a long time since she had to prepared dinner for two men. She smiled and reminisced about the good times with her husband. Their hearty dinner consisted of unseasoned rice, broth, meat and steamed vegetables. They sat at the dinner table, Kurama and Hiei said, "Itadakimasu." A polite phrase meaning, "I receive this food." Its a way to thank the person that prepared the meal. Hiei was very hungry and devoured the delicious meal. Shiori was very content that he enjoyed it.
"Its been a long time since two men sat at this table," she said as he sipped the broth.
"Mother..." whispered Kurama gently.
"No, its ok Shuiichi. Im glad your friend is here. Im glad he likes my food so much," she said cheerfully. Shed never seen a boy eat that much, then again he was growing and he was a teenager. Well at least she thought so. For desert they had raspberry gelato. Hiei devoured that too.
"Hiei you have such a big appetite. You should come over more often I love cooking for a man with a big appetite."
"Hey what about me?" exclaimed Kurama.
"Well you eat well, but Hiei just eats a lot," she replied cheerfully.
They left the dinner table and went on to the living room and sat in front of the TV. They all watched the news and Hiei was mesmerized by the images in front of him. The news was reporting about some strange activity that was going on in the city. Both Kurama and Hiei knew what it was but they had taken care of that yesterday. Citizens of Tokyo thought that they had seen demons and strange lights in the sky. Hiei laughed out loud at their nave minds. Shiori excused herself and went to see if Hieis cloak was ready. She brought it to him all warm and crisp. He sniffed the material which had a flower scent. He rubbed it against his cheek, he felt the warmth and softness. It had been a while since he had cleaned it.
"Thank you," he said shyly as he examined it.
Kurama looked at them both with extreme happiness in his heart. He was glad that the two people he loved the most got along so well. His heart swelled with joy. He gave his mother a goodnight kiss and she went to bed few minutes later, leaving Kurama and Hiei in front of the TV.
