Junkers M17
( Locomotive Oil Engine )
Project 1911, not built

Historical Data:

The M17 was projected in 1911. It was a special engine for use in diesel oil locomotives. Junkers discovered several design deficits on the M17, which would not allow to use the design for high turnrates as necessary in a locomotive. Also problems on the M12 and M15 designs needed to be solved at the same time. Therefore the M17 study was abandoned. However, Junkers restarted the train engine study again in the twenties.
