From Birger Larsen came the info, that the wreckage of Junkers Ju52 c/n 6888 was found somewhere in Austria
by Wolfgang Flach in Innsbruck. The plans are to rebuild the cockpit section for a local museum in Austria. However, I have no further info about this message yet.
In Summer 2003 the recovery of a crashed Ju52 at Watzmann was announced. Probably this is the same aircraft.
The Watzmann Ju52 crashed into the east side of the Hocheck at Watzmann in Austria on 30th October 1940 while
enroute from Munich Schleissheim to Zeltweg in Austria. In foggy
weather the aircraft hit the mountain at 2000 meters and fell into a glacier. While the dead crew was salvaged,
the aircraft remained at its crashsite and was later covered by permanent snow and ice of the glacier. Due to
the intensive summer 2003, most parts of this aircraft returned to the surface of the glacier and in September 2003
several usefull parts were saved. As the glacier smashed most larger parts of the aircraft, the crashsite shows
only smaller shredded parts. The parts are spreaded on an area of a half square kilometer due to the glacier moving
during the last 60 years.
As Flach has the intention to rebuilt a cockpit section from his salvage parts and the Watzmann Ju52 just show
very small parts, I am not sure, if both aircraft really are the same. Any info is welcome!
