Yesterday morning when I was driving to work, I was thinking about what I am, and how I differ from other people. I am not a manager of people. I am not a salesman. I am not a politician. I am not a thief. I am not a priest. I am a worker, a builder, a mathematician, a scientist, a computer programmer, a watchmaker, a problem solver, a helper, a husband, and a father.
To try to find out the essence of what I am, I pictured myself living in the time of Christ and wondered what I would be involved with. I would not be a King, or a merchant, or a Rabbi, or a shepherd, or an Apostle. I was thinking of the different people in the stories of that time, and when I thought of Saint Joseph, I knew. I am a carpenter!
St. Joseph - San Jose
We honor you as our Patron.
We revere you as that "wise and loyal servant"
whom the Lord placed over His household.
With faith you trusted God's message
and acted on it.
With a husband's love
you cherished Mary, our Mother.
With a father's care
you watched over Jesus, our Savior.
With honest labor
you provided for your Holy Family.
Pray for us now in this Diocese
which bears your name
that we may nourish each other in faith,
support each other in our temporal needs,
and renew our Church
in the pattern of your own Household.

I would like to share some personal information with my e-mail family. Today is my first full day out of a 3-day 2-night stay in the hospital. I was diagnosed as having Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) with anemia, etc. An ultra sound showed that my spleen was enlarged some, and a bone marrow biopsy showed the red cell production was being squeezed out by the white cell production. These two tests explained the anemia.
I got an intravenous dose of two kinds of Chemotherapies Tuesday and a fourth unit of blood Wednesday. I got home at about 6:00 PM. Wednesday.
I have an appointment Monday, and if there are no complications, I will go back to work the next day.
There will be follow ups of the Chemotherapy, but hopefully they will be in pill form.

God, like a good parent, loves all of his children unconditionally. Yes all.
A good parent will love all their children unconditionally, but will have special feelings that are different for each child. God loves us each in different special ways.
The secret to living a life that pleases God is to do things and respond to problems in such a way as to give God joy and cause God to have many special feelings for us.

Here is a Christmas letter from a geek (me).
I am really glad I switched to SBC Yahoo DSL. My downloads are running about twice as fast. I setup a sub account for my daughter in Campbell and she has unlimited dial-up service for $0. With EarthLink a sub account was limited to 20 hrs of dial-up time and then a $1 per hour. The mail box on the server is much larger and you can send larger attachments. EarthLink got set into their old ways and they are not keeping up.
The DSL modem/router I got from SBC has a wireless connection built in. My other daughter can get on the internet from her laptop computer though this connection. I still have two desktop computers, so three users can be on the internet at the same time. What fun.
Health wise I am going great. I saw my hematologist Monday and every thing is normal. I am taking a small pill (2 mg) each day of Leukeran, a Chemo drug for CLL/Leukemia maintenance. I don't have to go back to the Dr. for a year. I just need to get a blood test every 3 months to be sure the blood counts are staying in the normal range.
Merry Christmas,
-Harry
All: Not all of you have heard about my wife Joie being operating on Monday April 10 for colon cancer. She got home Thursday and is doing great. She may or may not need chemo, but if she does it won't be very strong.
-Harry
Great news, Joie does not need chemo therapy. We saw the oncologist today and he said that the cancer was caught in stage two and he did not recommend chemo. She will have to have blood tests every 3 months, a cat scan once a year, and a colonoscopy every three years. She should do fine with this great follow-up care.

Chris:
I am officially not crazy.
I have been going to a shrink for almost 5 years now. I started mainly to get prescription anti-depression medication (Remeron and Celexa) which I needed for the first couple of years or so. Once a shrink has you as a patient, they don't like to let you go.
I saw her yesterday and she said I did not need to take the medication any more and I did not need to see her again. So, I am officially not crazy.
How many people do you know that can say that?
-Harry
God is sitting in Heaven when a scientist says to Him, "God, we
don't need you anymore. Science has finally figured out a way to
create life out of nothing - in other words, we can now do what you
did in the beginning."
"Oh, is that so? Tell Me." replies God.
"Well," says the scientist, "we can take plain dirt and form it into
the likeness of you, and breathe life into it, thus creating man."
"Well, that's very interesting ... show Me," says God. So the
scientist bends down to the earth and starts to mold the soil into
the shape of a man.
"No, no, no ... interrupts God, get your own dirt."
-Harry
P.S. We can't do anything without Him.

Mary Lou:
I sure do..., and red wine too.
I have to go in Saturday to the infusion room at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara CA and get two units of blood. I have been on 6 mg of Leukeran per day (Chemotherapy) since last November. It is getting rid of my over abundance of white cell, but it is also killing my red cells. My CLL was in remission for so long, now we are trying to get it back to a manageable state again.

To my e-mail family:
I am going in to the Keiser hospital infusion room next week for Chemotherapy. Eight hours Tuesday, 3 hours Wednesday and 3 hours Thursday. I have not needed intravenous Chemotherapy for several years, but the pill form was no longer controlling my white cells. The Chemo they give for CLL, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, is not as bad as most Chemos, I have had no side effects in the past. I am scheduled to repeat the three day Chemo treatment every 28 days for up to 6 times.
I am feeling great and I would never know I had a problem if it wasn't for blood tests showing too many white cells.
