ALEXANDER DZADOORIAN'S POETRY

A MOTHER AND A SON

Translated from Armenian by Daniel Janoyan
March 19, 1992, Glendale, California

"O mother, tell me why is that each time you see a star glitter,
You hold me tight towards your heart
Passionately and with vigorous love,
And your spirit becomes enslaved with joy that is unlimited?"

"O dear child, that newly born star up in the skies
Reminds me of the past
That was your birth, my precious one."

"Tell me then why when from the star-filled heaven
A bright star falls suddenly and disappears from our eyes,
You become saddened and turn pale
And then suddenly hold me on your laps,
Hugging and squeezing me to your heart while crying silently?"

"O innocent child, every bright star
That falls down from above in the skies
Whatever it reminds me of
That you will learn from life itself."
