 Based on the manga created by Watsuki
Nobuhiro, Rurouni Kenshin (Vagrant Swordsman), was aired
as "Samurai X" in Manila by Studio 23 (English)
& ABS-CBN ch.2 (Dubbed).
Rurouni Kenshin is about Kenshin Himura, a wandering
samurai. One hundred forty years ago, during the last
days of the Tokugawa era, he was known as the fierce
Battousai (Hitokiri Battousai). During this era, the
Bakumatsu No Douran, he was the legendary slasher of the
Ishin Shishi. He was instrumental in bringing down the
Tokugawa Shogunate and paved the way for the Meiji
Restoration. At the beginning of the Meiji Era, he
disappeared and became a Rurouni. He vowed never to kill
again and uses a sakabatou or a reversed- edged blade.
During one of his wanderings he met Kaoru Kamiya and
decided to stay with her. He now fights for the honor and
safety of his friends and loved ones in the Kamiya Dojo
in Edo. Kenshin made a lot of friends and foes in Edo.
Among his new found friends were the ex-gangster, Sano,
the bratty but proud Yahiko and the doctors, Megumi and
Dr. Gensai, his granddaughters Ayame-chan and Suzume-chan,
the waitresses at the Akabeko restaurant, Tae-san and
Tsubame-chan. He fought with several characters, among
them were the the fake Battousai Hiruma Gohei, the rouge
Shinsengumi Hitokiri Jin-e, Shinomori Aoshi and the
Oniwabanshuu, Isurugi Raijuta and his Shinko Ryu. Kenshin
had his first real headache when he was approached by
Ookubo Toshimichi, the most powerful man in the Meiji
government to help them fight Makoto Shishio and his
Juppongatana. Together with Sano and former Shinsengumi,
Hajime Saitoh, and a little help from Kaoru, Yahiko and
Misao's Aoiya Oniwabanshuu, they narrowly defeated
Shishio and his group in Kyoto only to be confronted by
Amakusa Shougo and his fanatics in Shimabara. Then the
Kenshin-gumi meet up with old friend Yutaro, who just
came from Europe, but they brought with them a new
problem, the heavily armored Schneider and his German
Black Knights, who are in cahoots with Moriya Misanagi
and her Sanada Ninjas. They are looking for the Divine
Medicine that Yutaro and his companion Professor Hans is
hiding.

when he met Kaoru and decided to stay at her dojo.
He promised Kaoru, that he will protect her

Kenshin he wanted to fight him because he worked
before for the Meiji government. After Sano's
encounter with Kenshin, Kaoru and Yahiko, he
became good friends with them since. Sano seems
to like Megumi but he just didn't express it out.
He usually is hot-headed and takes on any battle
without thinking about the consequences. He hangs
around the Kamiya Dojo for company and free meals

Yahiko was born
right before the beginning of the Meiji
restoration. His father belong to the Shizoku
which was a pretty high class distinction during
the Edo era and supported the Tokugawas during
the Civil War, and even though he could switched
sides to help the Ishinshishi, Yahiko's father
kept his pride and honor by fighting to his death
against the Ishin Shishi. Her mother brought her
up after his father's death, until they "owed"
the Shueitai Yakuza. He worked for the gangster.
He was picking Kenshin's pocket but he threw
Kenshin's money back at him and decided not to
help the Yakuza again. Kaoru and Kenshin helped
him from the Yakuza. He now lives with them and
is the top student of Kaoru in the Kamiya Kasshin
style. He is usually arrogant, but is an
excellent kendoka.(His voice actress is Tominaga

He was once known as the
Shinsengumi Sanbantai Taichou or the Leader of
the Shinsengumi's Third Division. He once fought
Kenshin, but the battle was not really finished
for reasons unknown. He now works for the Meiji
government as a special agent. His most powerful
skill is the Gatotsu. There are different moves
of Gatotsu. They are Itsushiki, Nishiki, Sanshiki
and succession technique Zeroshiki. As you can
see, other than Gatotsu, Saitou doesn't really
have other sword skills because he believes that
a powerful and fast sword skill is all he need to
defeat his opponent. He is a calm and calculating
character, who lives by the Shinsengumi's motto
Aku, Zoku, Zan(Evil, Instant, Cut). He will not
hesitate to kill anyone who is evil, and he has
an exceptional skill for analyzing one's movement. |

Oniwabanshuu at the young age of 15, they were
designated to guard the Edo castle and thus did
not met the Battousai in battle before. Aoshi is
a cool, meticulous and systematic. He first met
and fought Kenshin when the Oniwabanshuu was
working for Kanryu. After the death of his men he
became obssessed with defeating Kenshin and
claiming the title of the best warrior in Japan.
Kenshin managed to restore him back to his old
form on their battle in Kyoto at the height of
Shishio's machinations. Aoshi then appeared to
give information to the Kenshin-gumi later in the
series. |

Seta Soujiro is Shishio's
right-hand man and is the best fighter among the
Juppongatana. He came from an abusive family, so
he smiled his problems away, repressing his anger
and fear. This led to his being emotionless. He
first met Shishio when he was being tracked down
by the police, Shishio killed them and was about
to kill Seta and then Seta began to smile, he the
hid Shishio under their house and gave him
bandages. Shishio gave Seta a short sword and
told him that "only the strong survives in
this world". When Seta's family found out
that he was hiding Shishio they beat him up again
and Seta killed them all in a fit of rage. He
then followed and learned to fight under Shishio.
Because he is emotionless, his opponents can't
feel and grab hold of what he is thinking. He was
also the one who assassinated Ookubo Toshimichi. |

Shimabara. He is believed to have miraculous
power by his followers, but he is just using
Western medical techniques in fact. He used his
ougi, Rai Ryu Sen to blind several people
including his uncle and Kenshin. |

happiness. She defended Kenshin and was mortally
wounded by him when she deflected the blow from
the Yaminobu's okashira, and a blinded Kenshin
slashed both of them. She completed the cross-scar
on Kenshin before she died. |
