This exciting new series is created by
Yoshihiro Togashi and is serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.
The first part was mostly introduction of the main
characters....Gon, who wanted to be a Hunter (A Hunter is
anyone who has the license to hunt just about anything,
treasure, criminals, monsters, protect species and
civilizations etc.-- and in order to be one you must pass
a series of tests to get a license. With this you license
can access anything in the world for free)when his life
was saved by a Hunter, Kaito, who told him that his
father was still alive and is the best Hunter around. Gon
asked his aunt, Mito and was tasked to perform a test and
he passed it so he went on to the Hunter exams. On the
ship that was taking them to the Hunter exams was
Kurapica and Reorio, whom Gon befriended and they were
the only ones to pass the first "test" onboard
the ship. They encountered many test including some
creatures and a marathon and then Gourmet Hunter, Mench,
who flunked everyone, but were they were saved by
Chairman Netero, then they are off to a tower filled with
traps and prisoners bent on killing them to be free, then
they were "stranded" on an island and were
"forced" to work together, and then the exam to
get 6 points, where Gon was forced to stalk Hisoka but he
got his number, anyway and then the final test...which
everyone was thinking it was a written exam...but it
turned out to be a tournament, wherein if one kills an
opponent, he will be automatically disqualified and the
rest will pass the test. First was Hisoka vs. Kurapika,
then Gon and Hanzo, in which Gon refused to lose and was
unconscious after the bout. The rest was told by Satotsu
to Gon in his bed. In Killua's second fight, he was faced
by no other than his eldest brother, Irumi, who used
Dokkiri Texture as a disguise, and forces Killua to
concede. After that, Killua was never the same and he
killed and opponent which disqualifies him form the exam
and makes the rest, pass it. Those who passed were now
being lectured on proper things that Hunters do.
After the Hunters
exams, Gon wanted to find Killua, so he challenged his
older brother Irumi to tell him where Killua is. Gon
fought Irumi but was beaten(since he uses Nen), Irumi
wanted to kill Gon but he was afraid of Hisoka, who
wanted to fight Gon when he gets stronger. Irumi tells
Gon that Killua is in the Zoldyeck mansion. Gon, Reorio
and Kurapika went to Kukuruu mountain where Killua's
family lives and asks Zeburo, the gatekeeper and the
Zoldyeck majordomo to let them speak with Killua. They
spoke to the majordomo who said that it was impossible to
speak with Killua. the gatekeeper told them that the side
door is a trap and the only safe path is the pathway from
the gate. Since the side door is a trap(it is guarded by
a huge dog-like monster who eats whomever enters it), the
only way for them to enter is to open at least one of the
huge gate-doors, but each door weighs several tons. Since
none of them can open the main door, Reorio tried the
side door, and was about to be eaten when Gon saved him
by dashing in as well. The huge monster followed Gon like
a rabid dog and cornered him when a whistle stopped it,
this came from Killua's little sister, Kalluto. Next,
they followed the gate path to a small house...the
gatekeeper lives in this house with another employee.
Once they entered the house, they noticed that everything
was heavy...very heavy. They practiced with weights on
everyday until their strength increased. Gon and Kurapika
could now open the first door, Reorio could open up to
the second door. They encountered a girl named Canary,
who was not supposed to let them through, but her "friendship"
with Killua made her waver on her duties, she was
punished by Killua's mother. Gon and company went on and
they reached the majordomo's house, a sort of mansion and
waited for Killua. Meanwhile Killua was being tortured by
his older brother, Miruki, but was notified by his
grandfather Zeno, that his father, Silva wanted to see
him. Father and son talked for a long while and agreed to
let Killua go(for now). Killua went on to see Gon and
company. In the majordomo's house the three are being put
into a test but passed it all and they were reunited with
Killua.
Kurapika went on to search for
clues pertaining to the GeneiRyodan, Reorio went on to
study medicine and Gon and Killua went to the Arena in
the Sky and fought to earn money...they easily reached
the 200th level, but the fighters in that level were a
notch better than those from the levels below because
they use the power of Nen, Gon and Killua then met and
befriended a young kid named Zooshie in the lower levels,
he is a user of Nen and asked his sensei, Wing-san, to
teach them the basics of Nen(this is the secret hunter
exam as well). They both learned the techniques of Nen
fast and now faced the fighters of the 200th level, among
them is Hisoka, whom Gon punched for the first time and
thus returned to him his Hunter number. After the
adventure in the Arena they went to Whale Island and
spent some time with Gon's aunt Mito. Mito gave them a
box encased in Nen, after opening it they found a tape, a
ring and a sort of rom card for "Greed Island"
a rare console game which costs 8 billion zennies and
only a hundred has been made and only people who can use
Nen can play it. They learned more about Gon's father,
Jin who wanted Gon to find him, if he can with the tape.
They got information that a few units were in auction at
the famous, annual York-shin City Auction. They went to
the auction but lost most of their money from accessing
the Hunter site and Killua's gambling(to earn more money),
then they met Reorio (who by the way had also learned Nen)
there and bought cellphones. They told him that they
intend to ind Gon's father using the rom card but they
needed to access a console first.
Meanwhile Kurapika went to find
work in a Hunter agency of sorts but was turned down, he
came back after a short while (in which he leared the
nuances of Nen) and was accepted. While on his way to his
client, he met Senritsu, who listens to heartbeats, and
befriends her. This guy warns him that he is about to be
attacked and Kurapika repulsed his attackers who were
after his Hunter card. After that he met Senritsu (who is
also a Hunter) again...looks they will work together
along with other Hunters for a Mafia family, the House
Nostrad, to protect the patriarch's daughter Neon. They
were tested for their abilities and Kurapika displayed
his innate fighting abilities and battlefield
intelligence. After passing the tests, they were tasked
to protect Neon, who was going to the York-shin City
Auction as well. Meanwhile in order to earn some money,
Reorio and the gang went to auction off a diamond ring
worth 3 million, the catch is to beat Gon in an arm-wrestling
match...which is nearly impossible 'cause he's strong. He
fought a young girl, Shihoku, who is actually a member of
the Ryodan and won 'cause she didn't use her left arm.
At the secret Mafia auction, where
three of Kurapika's comrades were assigned to join,
things were not going as planned since the Ryodan planned
to steal all of the items that were being auctioned. All
of the guests and their bodyguards were slain, despite
the heavy Mafia security, this is because the Ryodan made
their move but went home empty-handed because of Fukuro,
a member of the Mafia-elite's Inju took all the items in
the auction for safekeeping. Meanwhile the Mafia
community spottted the fleeing Ryodan and challenged
them, all of the Mafia thugs were defeated by a single
member of the Ryodan, #11 Ubogin, whose Nen make him
invulnerable to attacks, even the 4 Inju who were sent to
destroy him were all killed, but one managed to inflict
poison in his system and another, a leech which can kill
him if its can hatch its eggs inside Ubogin's body. With
this situation Kurapika, who was watching in the
sidelines snatches Ubogin with his chains and manages to
cart him away. The remaining Ryodan followed in pursuit
but was stopped by the remaining members of the Inju. In
a Nostrad mafia safehouse Darksword interrogated Ubogin,
but he only said that the Geneiryodan came empty-handed
because the auctioned items was already gone when they
arrived. Meanwhile Kurapika secretly met with the newest
Ryodan member, Hisoka, and reluctantly exchanged
information with him. At the safehouse the rest of the
Ryodan attacked and manged to free an enraged Ubogin, he
killed Darutsune and vowed to hunt Kurapika. Kurapika
assumed the leadership of the Nostrad Mafia bodyguards
and vowed to protect Neon Nostrad. Gon and company, was
invited to the secret Mafia auction, wherein the members
of the Ryodan were wanted badly with each member worth 2
billion zennies, this promted them to join the hunt for
the Ryodan.
Kurapika went to fight Ubogin. At
first Ubogin(20%Nen) thought he damaged Kurapika's arm,
but he was OK. then Ubogin used 50% of his power but was
still hit by Kurapika. He uses his full-power and managed
to hit Kurapika, but it was only a feint by Kurapika who
managed to trap Ubogin with his Judgement Nen-chain.
Kurapika then asks Ubogin information about the rest of
the Ryodan but he did not talk. Kurapika told Ubogin that
his Nen-chain is bound to him and all of the Ryodan.
Kurapika then kills Ubogin and buries him. Meanwhile Gon
and Killua went on to buy stuff (which has Nen) at a low
price and sells them at a higher price. Kurapika then met
with his employer, and proceeded to escort Neon to the
Nostrad home, he also told them that all the Inju-gumi
were annihilated except for one, Fukuro(Owl), the member
who hid the stuffs from the auction. He also said that
the Mafia contracted "professionals", including
the famous assassins - Silva and Zeno Zoldyeck, (Killua's
father and grandfather). Gon, Killua and Leorio tailed
two members of the Ryodan, Machi and Nobunaga but asked
Leorio to look after their auction because he still cant
use Zetsu. They followed the two but were both caught in
a trap set by the Kumo(Spider). Both were interrogated
and were held prisoner by the Ryodan, but escaped when
they tricked Nobunaga, who thought that they would attack
him. Meanwhile, Neon ,who went shopping, slipped past her
guards and entered the secret auction with the aid of the
Ryodan dancho, Kuroro Rushifururu(Chloro Lucifer), who
even asked her his fortune.
After the fortune-reading, Kuroro
was convinced that Ubo was killed and then instructed the
rest of the Ryodan to attack the auction and while
escorting Neon on the hallway, he sliced her so fast that
everyone thought she just fainted, it just happens that a
mercenary hired by the Mafia saw this and went to
confront Kuroro alone. He was among the "professional"
assassins that were hired by the Mafia to stop the
rampaging Ryodan and protect the auction. Among them were
Killua's grandfather and dad, Zeno and Silva Zoldyeck,
who managed to trap Kuroro and fight him. Kuroro, who
uses a Nen-book, is like a Skill Hunter, he apparently,
can seals the Nen that he steals from people in his book,
and if he wants to use their power, he opens up to the
page he sealed it in. Kuroro wanted to get Zeno's skill
so badly but he cannot do so because of Zeno attacks,
this is while Silva is standing and observing the match,
and seems to know Kuroro from before. Kuroro used
Fukuro's skill(the Injuu who hid the auction items) and
hid his Nen-book, but was cornered by Zeno and was about
to deliver the killing blow but was stopped by a call
from Irumi, who was with his sister Karuto and their
great-grandfather, the Zoldyeck clan's patriarch. He
asked if his "boss" was still alive. His boss
turned out to be Kuroro, who ordered Irumi to wipe out
the Mafia bosses, and without them Zeno and Silva's job
were done since the one who ordered them were no no
longer living and left a battered Kuroro to think about
his next move. This ends the anime series and is
continued in the OVA.
