WORK HISTORY

Summer 2005 Enrichment Camp Theater Instructor, Arlington Career Center, Arlington County Public Schools
While working at the Arlington Career Center, I was given the opportunity to work with students in grades 4 through 9 in a setting outside of the classroom.  In working with these students and developing the curriculum for the two week program, I was able to gain a perspective on how students function when they are not constrained by the traditional classroom

2003 - Present Science and Theater Teacher, The GW Community School
The GW Community School (GWCS) is a private school for divergent learners.  With class sizes that average about ten students, I am given the opportunity to work closely with individual students.  Also, being a school for divergent learners has given me a chance to find new ways of teaching and dealing with different learning styles.  I am currently teaching AP Environmental Science, Theater, Algebra I, and Physical Education.  During my time at GWCS I have also taught Biology, Chemistry and Marine Biology.

Summer 2002 and 2003 Summer Camp Counselor, Challenger Learning Center of Greater Washington
At the Challenger Learning Center I was given the opportunity to work with students in grades five through seven outside of the traditional classroom environment.  Through the use of simulators, teleconferences, field trips and group activities, campers were given the chance to learn more about space science and technology.  As a counselor, I was given the chance to experience this as well, and to instill some of my passion for space science in the campers.

2002 - 2003 Administrative Assistant, The Mills Corporation
As an administrative assistant with the Mills Corporation I was able to improve my administrative skills from photocopying and distribution to typing and filing.  Serving as the assistant to two vice presidents in the legal department, I gained additional multi-tasking skills and learned how to better budget my time and meet crucial deadlines everyday.

2001 - 2002 Substitute Teacher, Arlington Public Schools
I spent only a short time with the Arlington Public Schools.  During my time there I worked at all of the Arlington middle schools as well as Key Elementary School.  My duties included those of a regular substitute teacher from classroom management to carrying out plans for the day left by the full-time classroom teacher.

2001 Program Presenter, Carnegie Science Center
As a Presenter at the Carnegie Science Center, I was in charge of showing guests and visitors scientific principles through different small scale experiments.  I also worked with the Overnight Program in which school aged children came to spend the night at the Science Center.

2001 Secondary Substitute Teacher, Seneca Valley School District
During my time as a substitute with Seneca Valley, I subbed in various secondary classrooms.  Most of my time was spent as a replacement for a seventh grade life science teacher.  I had all the duties and responsibilities of a full-time secondary science teacher including grading and planning.

2000 SAT Preparation Instructor, The Princeton Review
Working with the Princeton Review gave me a chance to work with high school juniors and seniors and help them prepare for the SAT Math and Verbal Tests.  Instructing the students in the Princeton Review methods, I was in charge of two math classes and one English class for six weeks during the summer at the Penn State University, University Park Campus.

1999 Governor's School Assistant, Pennsylvania Governor’s School for Information Technology
As a Governor's School Assistant (GSA) it was my responsibility to care for the safety and well-being of 62 high school students, twenty-four hours a day.  I was also to facilitate their learning about Information Sciences, by helping them design and publish a web page.

1998 Drama Instructor, Youngworld Day Care Center
As the counselor in charge of drama at this summer day camp, it was my responsibility to introduce the campers, aged 6 - 12, to theater in general.  This was accomplished through acting games, as well as three plays performed at the end of the summer.

1997 Camp Counselor, North Hills YMCA
Responsible for watching children aged 6 - 13.  Required to care for their needs, as well as educate them in proper values and manners.  Also, keeping control of children during various outdoor activities.
